Title : HEATHER REPORT I & II

Ep/Season : Episode 10 & 11, Season 1 (Riders of Berk)

Premise :

A young girl washes up on the shores of Berk. But is she, who she says she is, or is she someone else completely?

PERSONAL TAKE:

I have to admit, that when I first watched this episode, like the very first time, I did not like it. On a whole, I just didn’t like the addition of Heather into the group. And I didn’t notice the nuanced approach it was going for. That this episode was actually more on Astrid.

The movies don’t go into detail about anyone else’s character apart from Hiccup and Toothless. So, it’ll be a waste if you’re a fan of the franchise and not have any opportunity to enjoy the personalities of the other characters. Hence, why ROB will be a treat for you.

You see, these 2 episodes dive into (1) Hicstrid’s first conflict, (2) Astrid having to prove herself; (3) Hiccup learning the lesson, trust Astrid.

CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT :

HICCUP HORRENDOUS HADDOCK III & ASTRID HOFFERSON

(1) HICSTRID’S FIRST CONFLICT

Hiccup is all too trusting. On the other hand, Astrid is all too suspicious. Her intuition and ability to read motives make her a pivotal member of the groups decision making process and is indicative of the kind of soldier she is.

They need to balance each other out. While Heather was in fact, a “spy”, she was also someone in grave danger. So, Hiccup wasn’t all too wrong about Heather, but he should’ve also listened to Astrid and maybe get to know Heather a bit more before trusting her with all their dragon secrets.

(2) ASTRID’S LEAD

Astrid called it. We know she will be proven right towards the end of Episode 10. And we can only see Hiccup feeling horrible for what happened.

Note: Can we also take a minute to appreciate the shark rug, which serves like a sleeping bag? The creativity in this show is endless.

But it was also a season for Astrid to trust her dragon. In spite of her suspicions, Stormfly allowed Heather to ride her. We know the dragons are smarter than that, and bribery wouldn’t work w them, especially since Deadly Nadders are fiercely loyal. So, if Stormfly knew Heather was going to hurt Astrid, her senses would’ve pinned Heather as an enemy.

I loved Astrid’s plan to dress up as Heather to retrieve the Book of Dragons. Tenacious thy name is Astrid. She is courageous and creative in battle strategy and mind-games. She very cleverly talked her way into an audience with Alvin, was quick-thinking and intelligent, remembering what she learned from Snotlout to deal w the wild monstrous nightmare.

Also, another thing Astrid learned was, that there was more than meets the eye. There was a reason to Heather’s betrayal.

Astrid bravely change the mission in hopes to save Heather’s parents despite what Heather did to her. Astrid is compassionate as well. She isn’t ruthless. She knows what’s right and what’s wrong. Her innate sense of justice is strong, making her a hero.

This is the kind of feminist stance I love to see. Being a feminist is more than life independent on men, but on core characteristics that make her human. The flaws to accentuate the lesson and the strengths to carry through resolve.

(3) HICCUP’S LESSON

Have you ever seen Hiccup so angry? OK, yes we have, but honestly, this made me love the episode. Hiccup getting angry. I feel like, this was where Hiccup’s respect for Astrid took on a whole new meaning.

Especially that scene when Heather and the Book of Dragons were falling from the sky, and when Snotlout claimed that he was “going after the girl,” Hiccup very determinately said that “I’m going after the book!” As if to mean, whatever the case may be, I’m so done w this girl.

Personally, I don’t think Hiccup ever waivered in his feelings for Astrid. I don’t think he was ever romantically interested w Heather, just intrigued. Also, he found someone to geek out about dragons w, that’s like Hiccup nib, if we’re being honest. And we know, that with Astrid, his chance to geek out has limits. That’s probably why in RTTE, he nerds out w Fishlegs and not Astrid.

You can see that he was much gentler w Astrid in Episode 11. And the little smirk and gentle look he gave to Astrid before she left on the mission felt like a longing to say something more than he could. We know that Hiccup will always be there for Astrid and Hiccup has learned the valuable lesson to trust Astrid.

GROWTH FOR THE TEAM

These two episodes would lead up to the riders first mission. They had to work as a team to defeat Alvin and retrieve the Book. Even to work together to protect or save Astrid.

They worked on a plan and practiced it. E.G. the fiery spikes formed by a combination of Hookfang’s fire and Stormfly’s spikes.

Their first mission was successful, messy, but successful. And Heather is the first civilian they saved.

“I’m surprised it went this smooth,” Stoick grumbled, voice hollow with distance, “With Alvin-... I’d expect something from Hiccup, at least. That boy…”

“He’s ‘Too busy, eh?” Gobber asked, waggling his eyebrows suggestively, grunting and hopping as he did it, reattaching his prosthetic to his leg nub, “Prolly been off mackin’ on tha’ girlfriend o’ his.”

Right… Alvin.

“Ah,” Hiccup was flushed, rubbing his neck and brushing against already messy hair, “Yeah, I forgot about that…”

Toothless was around somewhere.

He glanced to the side, where you stood, equally embarrassed and mussed, shoulders hunched slightly, very red in the face.

You shifted in your skirts, resisting the urge to use your boot to scratch at the back of your thigh, which had been itchy for a little while, since you brushed up against some plant walking back from the forest.

You were just around the corner from Hiccup’s Dad -a bright and heavily painted corner; turns out his whole ‘painting the houses’ thing caught on, which meant a lot less of things burning down- though he wasn’t sure if you’d heard.

All the talk of criminal executions was depressing, though you missed it, lost in the puppy-love haze phase of your new relationship. Still, it was kind of a bummer. It was for the best that Alvin was gone, though. Less danger in that for you too -not just the riders or Stoick or anything else.

You hoped it didn’t bum Hiccup out too bad. You noticed it had been getting him down, and you’d done your best.

Your fingers curled together, hooked securely and delicately to his by the fingerpads, and you and Hiccup stood close enough that you could feel his body heat through his tunic though not yet enough for the two of you to be touching by the arm.

You’d just gotten back from a successful trip to the glowing algae pool.

His vest was slightly displaced and you were both sure he’d lost a bead or two.

In one hand you held the little Fireworm, wrapped in a carefully made chainmail blanket -it was hard to come up with something that wouldn’t pinch skin or scales- also wrapped in a layer of leather so that you could hold it comfortably. 

It squirmed slightly. 

He scuffed his prosthetic slightly, recently oiled, recently reforged with treads beaten into the bottom, which did a lot to help with gripping wet wood while you were walking hand-in-hand around Berk.

You wore a red tunic -his, really, he’d lent it to you again after you’d gotten some muck on yours- and a string of your own beads on leather cord tied around your neck, something Hiccup had picked nonchalantly from the forge and used to help make you a necklace. 

He’d tried to make you a bead once, but he wasn’t much of an artisan. 

“I mean, me too,” You huffed, feather swaying as you shifted, attached to a stick like a pom-pom on one end of a cat toy, “We’ve been busy with other things, though- Not like what Gobber said- I mean, you know…”

Hiccup nodded, though he was still looking forward. This was all still super new for the both of you.

 It would feel that way for a while.

You were still in disbelief- it was a wonder to you why he and Astrid didn’t pair up before. 

He traced the collar of his scarf slightly as Sharpshot lolled lazily by your feet, slightly wet and glow-ey by his lower half whenever he teased the shade with his tail. 

You knew Hiccup was bummed Devastated that the Screaming Death had destroyed all his hard work -a good deal of the things he’d built up in the village for you, though with some hard work and dirt pushed under your fingernails it had been fixed up pretty easy.

He seemed happier now. It hadn’t really been something you’d planned but you’d distracted him somewhat- your relationship was still very, very new, still.

And you made him a gift.

You’d tried crafting again. It was very scratchy and you’d definitely not done a very good job making sure the whole thing was even but it was a nice fading rainbow, the yarn dyed in all the colors in Roy G. Biv in darker, neutral tones.

“Looks like you fixed things right up, ‘Dragon Master,’” You stuck out your tongue at him, looking smug.

It -the scarf- covered the bottom of Hiccup’s chin. It didn’t really fit him but he wore it with pride, which made something flutter around in your guts in a way that was almost uncomfortable.

You predicted it would be around a week before he took it off.

Hiccup had unintentionally returned the favor. You got a satchel from him, small and attached to a belt with norse knots imprinted around the edges, sown neatly together. It was sort of like a fanny pack but with more buckles and also cool.

“Did you really have to use that?” Hiccup said, leaning his head towards you momentarily.

Sharpshot churr-ed in the squawky squeaky way only a terror could, blinking up at the feather attached to your hip as you adjusted your hand in Hiccup’s.

The small Fireworm in your other hand blinked beadily as it sometimes very rarely did.

“It is tacky,” You admitted, though that was definitely why you used it, “But you did a good enough job to deserve it, not that you have to do anything to deserve things.”

You gently bumped into him with your hip.

And he did a great job. Berk was back to how it was just before the Screaming Death -most of the roses ended up being fine, and the plants that were lost were easily replaced and reinforced by spiked metal fences and wooden pikes.

You’d also added a few new planters. Many of the houses stationed under ramps were popular real estate now for metal tins for glowing mushroom growing, which you knew there many new homeowners were proud of, not just because of the fact that it made them a lot of money.

The mushrooms were great for paint making and the extra roofing kept dragons from jumping over houses and messing with tiling.

It was heavy maintenance, but they were all Vikings. For a modern girl like you, you found it was all worth it, if not just for the convenience.

Living on Berk was rough, but it was good and different now. Even with all the Outcasts and the dragons and the hunters and everything else missing.

And you were happy. 

And maybe Hiccup’s crush hadn’t ended up being so onesided after all.

Hey! Saw your essay about the inconsistencies. Ah ye. When contrasting the Httyd movies with the shows, I like to not take it all that seriously. "But the shows are canon!!!!!" the shows are a beautiful and meaningful AU of the movies and vice versa; I've fared wonderfully treating them like that. Keeping the good parts for inspo and tossing the rest tbh.

E.g. I'm keeping Dagur and Viggo and the Fireworms for canon. Maybe there was an outpost called Dragon's Edge once, but I like to think to myself that Hiccup merely used it as a weekend base camp / storehouse for further explorations rather than actually living there for extended periods of time. He had to make all his Httyd2 improvements on Berk somehow within those five years lol. He would have had to abandon Dragon's Edge wayyy earlier to be able to have a constant presence on his home island that would earn him the village's support and Stoick's eye regarding Chieftainship. I'm definitely keeping the volcano eruption though. Also the Buffalord, the amazing Season 4 Hiccstrid kiss, the Night Terrors and Chicken. And of course the gang becoming better friends.

...On the other hand I'm definitely treating Heather, Mala, the Wingmaidens and all the dragons I don't personally like as vivid fever dreams lol. I'm also ignoring the comics. Had Hiccup truly encountered Viggo and gone through all of that Rtte character development canonically, he wouldn't have acted as naive as he did in Httyd2... Viggo already taught him better than that.

Those are just my two cents, they are also helping me embrace such things as Homecoming etc.

If you could build your canon however you liked, what would you keep? :)

I don't know if you meant it like this but I do want to clarify that I adore the first 2 movies, GotNF, LotB, RoB, DoB, and RttE. And I like elements of Httyd 3 and Homecoming, but not them in general.

(I have no intention of reading the comics - they don't interest me).

Criticising stuff I like, and pulling it apart to see how it ticks is literally my biggest hobby, so, no problems enjoying it there.

I would honestly keep most of it, so here's a list of some of what I'd remove instead:

The inconsistencies between httyd 1 ending and RoB opening - mostly to do with the dragons' integration into Berk and the new infrastructure for the dragons.

Stoick's inconsistent and easily swayed opinion on the dragons - he would never allow them to be banished from Berk unless he was physically forced to. They saved Hiccup's life, they pretty much are Hiccup's life, and he would never dishonour Valka's memory by going against her ideals (esp since her son basically redeemed her weirdness by proving her right 15 years later).

Gothi's role - she shouldn't be the only healer on Berk, she shouldn't even be a healer. They made new characters for Mulch, Bucket, Mildew, Johann, Silent Sven, Alvin, Savage, Dagur and Heather (and most of those are males) so just kick one of those out and build a new healer for Berk (bonus points if its a relation of one of the Riders e.g. a Thorston).

Johann's villain arc - I've talked about this a lot already so I won't repeat myself but this was an atrocious direction to take.

the A team should not include those characters. Bucket and Mulch are farmers WHAT are they doing here. Gothi is old as fuck and she's got important shit to be doing (like apparently being the ONLY healer on Berk - srsly what r u gonna do when she dies?). Spitelout is on the Berk Council and is one of the main leaders of their military, why would he want to be bossed around by a 19 yro. the only one who makes sense is Gustav.

why does Astrid have to build the A team at all?? shouldn't Stoick or the entire military force of Berk teach themselves to use dragons to fight off invaders????

Astrid being so inconsistent with her suspicions and cautions.

Astrid randomly deciding to be Mother to dragons like Garf and throwing away all her military training and paranoia to bring said dragons on actual military operations??? like just say you needed a conflict and picked The Woman to throw under the bus.

The Wingmaidens - they're an obvious scramble to add female characters but they fall short on believability and worldbuilding.

The Bewilderbeast beneath Beserker Island. I don't like how... fucky.. this makes the plot. We didn't need this, we could have just ended on Johann & Krogan heading towards Valka's mountain, which could explain why Hiccup was still exploring the archipelago in httyd 2. then we could have done a post-credits-esque scene with Valka decimating Johann and Krogan. boom, vibes preserved, plotholes kind of prevented.

ok theres probably a lot more but this was all i could think of. Ik it looks like a lot but most of it is just tweaking canon. the majority of RoB, DoB, and RttE are wonderful. otherwise I wouldn't give half of a shit about them.

How will Hiccup, Thuggory, and Co. escape their current predicament? And will they return in time before the Green Death roasts their Tribes to well-done human kabobs?

The Viking Tribes of the Barbaric Archipelago

This is a nonfiction fanfic that dives into the geography, history, culture, and customs of every Viking Tribe in the Archipelago (in the Books). You can look at this as a Guide to the Archipelago (an All You Need to Know About X book), or as a history book composed by a future historian. Take your pick.

Thuggory's Saga

This story will be on Thuggory's POV throughout the Books and what was going on behind the scenes when Thuggory wasn't around.

(Post Book 12) Fishlegs saga unfolds during the Reign of Hiccup the Third, King of the Wilderwest, and accounts his rise to power as Chieftain of the No-Name Tribe and as Chief of the Bards.

The Tale of Two Swords

Told from Endeavor's POV (and sometimes from Stormblade's), this story delves into their respective origins, how they came into the hands of their respective owners, and the events leading up to the conflict between Alvin the Treacherous and Hiccup the Third. Two swords, two grudges, two wills, two forces, and two ideologies will clash for supremacy!

Hiccup's Saga

(Post Book 12) This story will focus on Hiccup's story AFTER his ascension as the 13th King of the Renewed Kingdom of the Wilderwest. As well as his achievements, his experiences, his struggles, and his life milestones. This will try to stay loyal to the books and to the books' epilogues.

Hiccup the First's Saga

Told from Hiccup's POV until he meets Wodensfang, which will then transition to Wodensfang's POV ever afterwards. This will get into the details of his birth, the war with the Uglithugs, the Hooligans getting ousted from the Mainland and their migration to Berk; it will get to Hiccup's childhood and adolescence, the start of the brutal Human-Dragon Wars, and how he eventually meets Wodensfang; then his defeat of Merciless/Green Death, the founding of the Kingdom of the Wilderwest, and his achievements and milestone events as King, until his death.

Hiccup's Young Chief AU

This story idea dives into what would happen if Hiccup had to become the new Chief of Berk early on in his youth. From this point, we have several options to choose from.

1) Have this be a sequel to "Exile on Cannibal Isle" if the ending ends up being tragic for the adults, and Thuggory and Hiccup are left to pick up the pieces after slaying the Green Death.

2) Have this set in Book 2, if Stoick dies in the fight against Alvin, as a consequence of the curse of Grimbeard's treasure.

3) Have this set in Book 7, when Madguts the Murderous was about to execute Big Bertha and Stoick in revenge, and Hiccup failed to return on time.

4) Have this set in Book 9, when Stoick is missing (via Excellinor the Witch), and Hiccup never finds him again.

5) Have this set in Book 9 when all the adults are missing or perished, and the Warriors-to-Be are the only ones left in the School (aside from the Outcasts, obviously), and so everyone has to fight together in order to escape.

6) Have this set in Books 10/11 when Stoick dies in battle and Hiccup is forced to lead his Tribe in their fight against both Alvinsmen and Dragons.

Alvin's Saga (or Saga of the Outcasts)

(Pre-HTTYD) This focuses on Alvin's origins: from his birth, to his upbringing, to how he turned his Tribe into one of the most "modern" and dangerous Tribes in the Archipelago, how he came across the Legend of the King's Lost Things, his fateful encounter with his future arch-nemesis Hiccup, and his gradual elevation to ultimate power. I might have this story end once he meets with Hiccup. Or maybe I end it with his death. That's up to you guys.

Snotface Snotlout's Saga

(Pre-HTTYD / HTTYD) This story focuses on Snotface Snotlout's origins: from his birth, to Hiccup's birth, to the origin of his rivalry with him, and so on — right up to his death! (Or I could keep him alive instead?)

Wodensfang's Saga

This saga focuses on Wodensfang's origins: His birth, his life, how he ended up in Merciless' rebellion, how he meets Hiccup the First, his time with him, the days of his successors, the dark times of Grimbeard the Ghastly and Hiccup the Second, his time in the volcano with the crown, his meeting Hiccup the Third, the dark times of Furious' rebellion, Hiccup's crowning, and the events afterwards.

Wilderwest Whumpfest

A one-shot series focusing on whumping various characters in the books. This could be something minor like fatigue or backaches, sickness or injuries, sorrow for something, or even something as extreme as actual death or tragedy.

Companions of the Dragonmark

This work, as you already know from a previous post, focuses on platonic pairings in this series. There will be various types, such as human & dragon, human & weapon, human & human, human & pet, etc. Also includes friends, family, mentor-student, and even stranger (first time meeting) or acquaintance relationships.

Antagonistic Pairing Series

This work is something that I’ve just recently came up with, which focuses on antagonistic pairings. This can be pairings between hero/villain, villain/villain, villain/antagonist, hero/antagonist, antagonist/antagonist, etc. Pairings can include, Hiccup and Alvin, Snotlout and Thuggory, Alvin and Excellinor, UG the Uglithug and Excellinor, Madguts and Big Bertha, Snotlout and Hiccup, etc.

I’m liking this because nobody really writes fanfics that focuses on antagonistic pairings. Only romantic and platonic pairings.

Camicazi x Hiccup: 5/10 I personally have nothing against it but I don’t ship it.

Fishlegs x Hiccup: 4/10 They are related which makes it a little bit icky to me, but in an au where they are not related I think that it has the potential to work.

Stormfly x Toothless: 2/10 She is using him.

Hiccup x Thuggery: 7/10 Not a bad ship, although I personally see it more as a one sided crush on Hiccup’s part. 

Hiccup x Toothless: 0/10 I will find you, and I will drop kick you. 

Fishlegs x Barbara: 7.5/10 I like this ship, don’t judge me. I know the two haven’t interacted yet, but that just means that I get to make more headcanons.

No, what you were concerned about was the tall man standing on the deck above you, looking down at you wordlessly. Dagur was not the same boy from three years ago. Quite the contrary, he had grown, not just in height, but in size. He was muscular and built. His skin was littered with scars and tattoos. One of which was a list of names, and much to your fear, the name Alvin had been crossed out. Well... that answered some questions. 

His once unmarred face now bore a large scar across the right side of his face, while his left eye had a blue, bear scratch tattoo. His hair was on full display, which was a rare sight, he had cut it too. And for a moment you had completely forgotten the situation you were in, content to admire his new figure and appearance. The sharpening of his gaze however, brought you back to the present. 

All at once Dagur leapt over the railing and jumped down to your level. "Y/N!" Dagur quickly wrapped you up in his arms and spun you around once. You take it back, Dagur was much larger than before. He was a solid head taller than you now, and even as he held you, your feet were off the ground. And- dear Odin his arms were huge. 

Dagur loosened his grip on you slightly, though still not letting you down, so he could look at you properly. "Look at you! You're so much smaller than I remember! And your hair is longer!" Dagur gushed. "Dagur!" was all your mouth could make out, partially out of shock and partially due to the spine-crushing hug he threw you into. 

"You're so pretty! And you smell different!" he fawned, shoving his face into the crook of your neck.  Well, this wasn't what you expected. Originally you thought he would have been angry at you for throwing him into prison. His possessiveness and obsessive nature just really are that strong.  Pulling himself from your neck, you were greeted with a deranged love-struck grin that bordered insane. Johann was right when he said that Dagur was more deranged than ever. Dagur's grip on your waist was crushing and almost hurt with how possessive and tight it was. Dagur's smile was from ear to ear, for a moment looking as though someone had slit the sides, with how unnaturally wide it was.

"Oh~ did you miss me? I missed you?" the deranged nature of his features dissipates replaced with a soft and dazed air; infatuation evident in his voice. 

"You're supposed to be in prison!" you yell. With a quick glare the Berserkers surrounding you lower their weapons, before he turns his gaze back to you, "Didn't care for it. Food was dry and the people were boring. Besides I had plans, marrying you, killing your brother, destroying berk, just a lot on my plate".

Kill?! Dagur had only ever wanted to beat Hiccup and steal Toothless. Looks like his plans expanded while locked up. "If you lay so much as one hand on my brother, I'll cut you open" you attempt to intimidate him, staring up at his towering frame. It was a sad attempt to say the least, earning a hum from Dagur as he rested his head against yours, "You're still so cute when you get worked up".  

"Then I'm about to get adorable" you step down hard on his foot, causing him to loosen his grip enough to where you could stand in front of him rather than against his chest. Though his hands held firm on your upper arms, the space did wonders. Allowing you to partially think clearly. You were beyond upset with him, but the newfound baritone hidden beneath his voice was distracting. 

"I thought about you every day!" Dagur exclaimed with a lopsided toothy grin. He released one of your arms in order to pull the other, causing you to fall into his side so he could lead you across the deck. "Come! I have a reintroduction to make to your friends and. Hiccup" his voice turned venomous at the mention of your brother. Dagur kept you pressed against the side of his chest; arm wrapped firmly around you as you walked off the ship you were on towards one where you could see your friends inside a cage. You had half a mind to elbow Dagur and free them, but the crowd of armed Berserker soldiers kept you in check. You would have to be patient. Hiccup was nowhere to be seen, so there was no doubt in your mind that the opportunity to strike would come. 

"Y/N!" Astrid called when you entered their line of sight. "I swear if you lay so much as a scratch on her I'll-" Dagur interrupted. "You'll what blondie. As far as power goes, you have none inside that cage. So, let's all get along and wait for Hiccup to come out from this ship". This ship? you looked at the sail and formidable size. The reaper! Of course, your brother would go into the one ship Alvin had told you not too.

Placing a light peck to your hair Dagur released you from his side, having two of his men hold each of your arms, when the sound of loud steps thundered from the door to the hull of the ship. All at once Hiccup and Toothless barreled out from the inside of the ship, only to look up to see both you and your friends captured and surrounded by Dagur and his men.

"Hiccup! Did you miss me? Cuz I sure missed you~" his hands went to his ears as his tone shifted to upset and deranged, "Every day for three years I thought about you". He stepped out of the way of the cage, giving Hiccup a better view of the others; namely Astrid, locked inside the cage "Astrid!". 

"Sorry Hiccup, he got the drop on us while we were searching the-" Dagur stepped back Infront of the cage with balled fists as he yelled quiet enraged before shifting back to his "collected and calm" clearly condescending front. "Can't you see my brother and I are having a moment". 

"I'm not your brother. And we are definitely not having a moment" Hiccup said. "Oh" Dagur sounded deflated and confused "Well, I was. Look at you! All grown up! And quite the ladies man I'd wager?" he leaned in with a hand blocking his mouth from the others, as if he and Hiccup were in on some secret personal joke.

"Dagur what do you want" Hiccup asked, fed up with Dagur's insane taunting. "Duh, he wants the jewels" Snotlout said from within the cage flicking the poorly held together makeshift wig he wore. 

"Haven't gotten rid of the Greek chorus I see. Anyways, yes, I'll the jewels. His too" he gestured to Ruffnut who was then elbowed in the gut, causing her to spit out the colored gems hidden in her mouth. "Watch it pal!" she yelled back, spiting the last remaining gem in her mouth into the guard's causing him to choke. "Oops, thought that was the guy. Never can tell with those two. But of course, I'll also be taking Y/N, and whatever it is your hiding behind your back" Toothless growled at Dagur, stepping closer but unable to attack.  

"Come on, hand it over like a good boy. Brothers share you know" Hiccup begrudgingly shoved the foreign cylindrical spy glass into Dagur's hand. "You know you're not going to get very far with that? Right?". Dagur let out a long drawn out oh, as he walked to face the same direction as Hiccup and throw an arm over his shoulders. "Here we go. Must we always do the same dance Hiccup you and I? Not that you're not a fabulous dancer" it was strange to feel like a third wheel to your fiancé and your own brother. Not that you and Dagur were still engaged!

Toothless let out a loud growl as he prepared to lunge at Dagur, only to be stopped by Hiccup, "Easy bud, not yet". "That's right Mr. Nightfury, today is not the day. but it's coming! And soon! Now if you'll excuse me, I've got people to see, army to build, wedding to plan, revenge to plot. Oh, so much to do and so little time! Isn't this exciting Hiccup? You must have been so bored the last three years". 

"Yeah, he's got a point about that" Tuff chimed in, "Not enough explosions". You tugged your arms slightly from the guards grip in an attempt to throw something at the boys stupid face.

"Alas, my time here has come to an end. Farwell for now, brother" he emphasized the name, both to annoy Hiccup with the inappropriate term of endearment, and to press in the point of what he planned to do to you now that he had you back after all this time. "Until we meet again, on the field of battle" ha walked away from Hiccup, retrieving you from his men's hold, and returning you to your spot against his side. 

"Don't worry Y/N, I'll get you back soon" your brother called. "I know" Dagur rolled his eyes at that, his grip tightening possessively an almost invisible amount, as he helped you onto his ship. 

"Here he comes sir" one of the Berserkers said as Hiccup and Toothless jumped off of the reaper towards you. "Still predictable, aren't you brother" he smirked, causing you to look to Hiccup panicked. With a call from Dagur a catapult launched throwing a large boulder just short of Hiccup and Toothless. "You missed brother" Hiccup taunted. "Hiccup you should know by now, I never miss". A loud crash sounded from the Reaper followed by the yells and screams of your friends. "What's it going to be Hiccup? Catch me? Save your friends? ooo hohoh tough one. Glad I'm not in your shoe" Dagur laughed and taunted your brother. "Hiccup the others! Go help them I'll be fine!" Hiccup winced at the thought of having to choose between you and your friends, but at your insistence dove with Toothless towards the reaper as you and Dagur sailed away.

"So! How do you feel about axes as a wedding theme" Dagur asked carefree as if he hadn't just nearly killed your friends and threatened your brother. "

"We are not getting married! We will never get married!" you grit your teeth. Dagur sighed dropping his head backwards exasperated, "My love, I understand you're a bit overwhelmed and Hiccup has been filling your mind with lies these past three years, but if we want the decorations to come in time for the wedding, we need to decide on a theme now". Your eyes narrowed and you were about to deck him in the face when he suddenly turned away from you to inspect the spy glass he had taken from Hiccup. Causing your fist to collide with his shoulder, which was hard enough to make you hiss and grip your hand. "Tell you what, you think on it, and tell me when you've picked one" he said unfazed by the knock to his shoulder. What was this man made out of?! Brick?!

The sound of an unusual creak and shift in weight of the ship drew your attention to the side if the ship. where the crown of a dragon slightly peaked over the edge. It was a wonder how Silver Tongue had managed to stay this calm with Dagur so close by. But now was not the time to question it. Taking slow and quiet steps towards the edge, as you saw the black silhouette of Toothless hovering towards the ship. 

Quickly you jumped over the edge, staying silent and urging Silver Tongue to hold still until Hiccup was in range. As Dagur held the spy glass in the air yelling at Savage Hiccup plucked it from his hand in a fly by. Silver Tongue taking off to follow him. Dagur let out an enraged scream at the sight. "Hey Dagur! I think the best theme for our wedding is dreams. Because yours are the only place it'll ever happen" Hiccup laughed as the two of you darted out of the Berserkers range.

Dagur threw one of his men overboard in rage, the other next to him jumping off of free will rather than face his wrath. "See what you did!" Dagur Yelled at Savage, "You distracted me. And now my future queen and wife is gone" his hands wrapped slowly around Savages collar terrifyingly calm before he turned to yell at the sky as if the two of you were still there, "Good for you Hiccup! Good. For. You. But I got all the gold! You hear that! All the gold. All. The. Gold" He flung Savage back and forth by his collar to accentuate each word before throwing him to the ground and laughing madly. "You know you can never have nice things around that guy" his temper did a 180 as he said calmly though walking over Savage towards his quarters. Hiccup may have taken both you, and the spy glass from him this time. But he knew he would get you back. It was just a matter of time.

Fishlegs the Outcast? (HTTYD/RTTE Fanon Headcanon)

Well met, my fellow Furians! And welcome to another article! Today's topic will dive into the relationship between Alvin and Fishlegs in the RTTE Season 5 episode "Return of Thor Bonecrusher".

This will leap from my Outcast/Incast Redemption Headcanon articles, and I have a lovely little fanon headcanon for you guys. 😆

So for those of you who've read my Alvin the Trustworthy/Outcast Tribe-Turned-Incast Tribe headcanon articles (here, here, and here), and have seen my X Leaves Berk fanfic ideas (here), you'll probably recognize this topic a little bit. 😏😉

I also have a theory/headcanon article about Fishlegs being Alvin's son that you can read here.

What if Fishlegs was an Outcast? Instead of your usual Hiccup Leaves Berk AU fanfic or comic, what if it was Fishlegs who left Berk? There are many ways to do it: from having wanderlust and wanting to travel, to being banished for one reason or another, or having indirectly harmed somebody, or even from him banishing himself from Berk, or wanting to become a merchant. There are so many ways to go about this when it comes to Fishlegs. I find it sad that nobody's ever thought of anyone else leaving Berk besides Hiccup. 😢

But I'm digressing. Back to my original question: What if Fishlegs was an Outcast? Whether this happened before, during, or after Alvin's redemption; whether this happened in HTTYD 1, RoB, DoB, or RttE; or whether Fishlegs truly became an Outcast for one reason or another is beside the point.

After watching "Return of Thor Bonecrusher," I've come to an idea that I've never thought about: What if Fishlegs became an Outcast? What if the result of that event brought about a series of scenarios that would change Fishlegs' life forever?

What if Alvin, having been impressed with Fishlegs' courage and his help in rescuing him from bandits, that he decided to go to Berk and asked both Stoick and Fishlegs' parents if he could adopt him as his heir to the Outcast-now-Incast Tribe?

In Viking society, adoption and foster parenting was a big part of their culture and they were one of the many ways to build or solidify alliances or friendships with each other.

Now we know that, canonically speaking, Fishlegs remained on Berk and probably would've refused the offer even if it had been proffered to him. But this is why this is a fanon headcanon. 😏🤫

What would happen if Fishlegs had accepted the offer of adoption, and left his family and Berk to become Alvin's heir of the OutIncast Tribe? I think the majority if not all of the Outcasts would unanimously vote in favor of that, if that episode was anything to go by.

But I think it'd be great since Alvin doesn't have an heir and is getting on in years. It'd be a great relief on his mind if he had somebody capable who could lead the Incasts.

Crap, now that makes me want to write a fanfic about that! 😂

Don't know if its rude to ask another question, but if the comute is so long, I'll ask another!!

On the subject of kids, do you see Alvin having any children? Either already or later on by movie 2/3? Or do you see Movie!Fishlegs as his son like in the books?

I personally don't like ships, but do you have any in mind for Zephyr/Nuffink in your own Au/writing?

That's not rude at all!! Answering on this my commute back home so this second ask is great for that!!

I honestly never thought about whether I see Alvin having kids! Could be, obviously, maybe he has some back on Outcast Island, that possibility is pretty high! If he has some, I think they'd be around Hiccup's age, if not a little older, and that they'd later on become his fellow chieftain peers who he can jam around with during things like the Thing. Think that could be some good fun :D

On the Fishlegs thing!! Gosh I have always really loved that idea. It could fit timeline wise, definitely, and it would just be a really fun dynamic to play around with. We also only ever hear about Fishlegs' mom, nothing ever about his dad, so I think it could be a very plausible possibility and I personally really like it. This being a thing in the books and Fishlegs rejecting Alvin was really enjoyable to me too (as a person with. severe daddy issues lmao) and even tho i think the dynamic would be different in the movie-verse, it would still be great.

I actually don't have any preferences on any Zephyr ships or Nuffink ships! The things people have come up with are always great to see and even tho I always love the Haddock heir x Berserker heir thing (that's just the royalty au lover in me talking haha), I'm not opposed to any other ship. I think your Zephyr ship with Conrad/Nivvin is pretty cool too!

For Nuffink,,, man I can't see any ships for that kid. But, same with Zephyr, I do think the ships people create for him are pretty cool!!

So yeah lmao, nah, I don't really have any in mind for my own writing. I honestly don't really often think abt the next gen being grown up and dating!! In my mind, they just stay rambunctious kids forever haha. For example, I don't even have a clue what Niv and Sunni do as adults besides like. Their job lmao

okay so. imma preface this by saying that i, personally, Really Dislike (hate) the httyd movies due to the fact that the book series was my childhood and how inaccurate the movies are, so i am So down for this au, except... imma make it the Books...

oKAY NO BUT LIKE imagine toph as freaking camicazi like "you're pretty good, for a boy, of course" MY QUEEN

and if aang is hiccup, then momo would be toothless and i just. i know it. momo would be toothless. appa is too nice to be toothless. toothless is a menace. toothless is the dragon that's like "i'm going to cause problems On Purpose" and that has momo vibes. and okay, while hiccup and aang aren't like super similar because personality wise, sokka has more hiccup vibes (loves learning, super smart, taught himself the language of dragons through observation...) this is the story of hiccup and him becoming a hero when no one really believed in him (except fishlegs and camicazi and other people on occasion). hiccup has the ability to befriend dragons that probably would have eaten other people. he has the ability to make friends with other vikings that probably would have killed other people. and, if he doesn't make friends with them (which he Always usually tries first--or even not becoming friends with them, sometimes it's just convincing them that he is fighting for the greater good and won't hurt them and is worth keeping alive), he is able to beat them due to wit before all else. he is the underdog because he's skinny and gets scared and expresses his fear and just. AHHH I LOVE HIM!

and sokka would Probably be fishlegs tbh??? like we'd have to change some stuff because fishlegs is an orphan like was abandoned by his parents, but they both have the energy of "will complain about everything but also has brain cells" okijuhygfcghuji and foo foo cuddly poops could be horrorcow because. fishlegs named his dragon. horrorcow. i think fishlegs and sokka have the same vibes when it comes to naming things...

maybe we could change the plot a bit where it isn't fishlegs (sokka) that washes up on the isle of berk, but hiccup (aang) and katara and sokka befriend him and they're all in viking training together and get their dragons together too. and that would Still be as chaotic, but that was all Kind of fishlegs' fault and i Really Doubt sokka would do what he did, so let's just say it's like... idk it's hahn's fault or something lol and that's how aang ends up with momo

and everyone is super cautious of aang (including sokka, sometimes. sometimes sokka is just like "why do i hang out with you you're going to get us killed?" and aang just shrugs and is like "idk cause you love me") because he's a bit of an odd outsider and vikings are territorial and he learned how to speak to dragons which literally no one else can do and he also tries to idk be friends with dragons and stuff because he finds them interesting (and bonus points if sokka Also finds them interesting but is too scared of the negative reaction the tribe would have if he indulged in learning about dragons like aang) and aang teaches katara dragon stuff (and eventually sokka... he teaches them how to speak dragonese...) aND FRICK I LOVE THIS

Blog Post Series : Breaking Down Hiccup

Title : In Dragons we Trust | Alvin and the Outcasts

Ep/Season : Episode 5 & 6, Season 1 (Riders of Berk)

Premise(s) :

Mildew sets out get rid of the dragons. As usual. Alvin the Treacherous, a long term enemy of Berk has now ceased the opportunity to appear and kidnap the dragon conqueror for himself, much to his surprise.

THE OPENING SCENE

The opening sequence of Episode 5 is cathartic. When Hiccup free falls, there is such freedom and release. He glides in the air with such ease. The artistic direction of the show is refined. Hiccup is the bravest in the sky, and ironically, somewhat uncomfortable on land. He is himself with Toothless, or in a better way put - more himself. But without Toothless, he is always placed in a position of finding himself.

Episode 5 and 6 is exactly that. We know that Mildew’s scheme to get rid of the dragons succeeds at the end of Episode 5. And Hiccup is now looking for an opportunity to get Toothless back and bring him home. The struggle now begins as Hiccup has to find his strength in the absence of his best friend.

CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT

HICCUP HORRENDOUS HADDOCK III

At the start of Episode 5, we are made aware of the dynamic of Hiccup in the village. There is now no disputing that he is Stoic’s heir. I’d like to think that the village was worried having Hiccup as chief initially. He’s scrawny, tiny, couldn’t/wouldn’t kill a dragon. He didn’t fit the Viking mould. Even Stoic was concerned. But after the battle with the Red Death, no one can fault Hiccup’s stubbornness and bravery. His courage was unmatched. His compassion greater than the scale of his measure and his understanding even larger.

So, when we go into Riders of Berk, Hiccup is undisputedly next in line. This is reflected in what Stoic tells Hiccup in Episode 5 “all eyes are upon you son, whatever those beast do reflects on you AND whatever you do reflects on ME.”

RELATIONSHIP DYNAMIC

FATHER-SON & CHIEF

Hiccup is trying to prove himself. And while Stoic has done better after the events of the 1st movie, in terms of parenting, he still struggles to divide his position as chief and his role as father. This context is often a topic when we follow a storyline involving royalties and their heirs.

Stoic doesn’t want to disappoint his son, but he must also protect his village, which is allegedly being ruined by something his son loves the most and believes are innocent.

The question of trust is still a running theme between father and son.

And the notion of whether Hiccup is a worthy leader hangs lightly in the air.

The living situation between dragons and Vikings is still precarious.

HICCUP X ASTRID

I can’t not talk about them. When Hiccup was contemplating the series of unfortunate events, he starts to believe that Mildew set everything up. After they leave the dragons on Dragon Island, Astrid, sad and upset looks for him. I notice that the two of them, in the earlier days of friendship, often sought each other for support (as they will continue to do into their relationship).

At the same time, Hiccup confides in Astrid the possibility of Mildew’s treason. She has always been his voice of reason. A great listener. She doesn’t nudge him towards the impulsive but is wise in her counsel, letting him make his own decisions, but reminding him to calculate them. We know they grew up together, but the grew together as well, if you get what I’m saying.

This reminds of the final movie, when Gobber pesters Astrid to marry him. It is because he knows that Astrid makes Hiccup better. Even Valka acknowledges that he listens to her. There will always be a Hiccup and Astrid.

HICCUP V ALVIN THE TREACHEROUS

Alvin the Treacherous (voiced by Mark Hamill might I add 🙌🏼) is Hiccup’s first enemy. I get that Mildew might be considered the first, but he wasn’t a real threat to Berk (yet).

Something Hiccup proves very well, is that he is brave. He isn’t stupidly audacious, like Snotlout, who when push comes to shove might run away from the challenge (though arguably Snotlout gets better towards the end).

He is also very clever. He chooses his battles and uses psychology to outwit his enemies, instead of brute strength, which most of them would have more than him anyways.

HEROIC STORY LINES

UNDERRATED ROMANTIC | CHIVALRY AIN’T DEAD

Hiccup heroically shows up just when Astrid needs him. I love these little touches. Hiccup continues to prove himself to be nothing like “Stoic’s little embarrassment.”

Hiccup tries to trick Alvin. Astrid catches on quickly (proving their inward connection) and plays along w his plan. We know that this rouse may not fly if it was put against the twins or Snotlout, who may not get the idea immediately and Fishlegs would be too nervous to act it out well.

HICCUP’S BRAVERY

Was it stupid to let Alvin take him hostage? Yes, but Hiccup was unafraid. And didn’t even flinch while captive. He grows a lot in these two episodes. I love that his size holds no comparison to his courage.

BATTLE STRATEGY IMPROVES

While Alvin will prove to be a lesser evil than the demons that will soon chase him in later seasons, Hiccup and the way he manoeuvres Toothless on the battle field will improve and match up w the evil at hand. The turns he makes when battling Alvin is a little clumsy and out of touch, but this will change as he practices and progresses in the story. I like that they made it look that way, as opposed to Hiccup just naturally knowing how to fight w Toothless by his side. I appreciate the growth they’re trying to lay out here.

Likewise, the way the riders work as a team will also progress. The other’s seemingly irrelevant rattlings will prove useful, and Hiccup will learn to be a leader, team player and friend to them and they to him.

CONCLUSION

I loved how Stoic faced off Alvin. Punishing him for taking Hiccup. Which shows off his tenacity, strength and love for his son.

I like how though Mildew wasn’t outed, he didn’t need to be. It’s like a lesson in “things don’t always work out the way you want it to and justice isn’t always served independent of evidence". But when you do the right thing, things will workout, and that’s exactly what happened.

I love that at the end of the episodes, the village cheered on the dragon riders sparking on a desire to let them stay and tolerate a free roaming dragon city.

I’ve always taken issue with “Family Matter” because Astrid shouldn’t have done this. Yes, this is meant for humor, but he’s the Chief’s Son. What he says, goes. If the rest of the Gang gets ridiculed for going against Hiccup’s orders, then why should Astrid get special treatment... because she’s his fiance? No. She’d never have done that had it been Stoick. And Snotlout and Alvin got punished when they disobeyed the Chief’s Son — Alvin got bloomin’ BANISHED because of it since it resulted in Stoick’s father’s death. Plus, her trumping Hiccup’s orders put them into danger, and Garff, and Hiccup just... shrugs it off. Excuse me? If Snotlout or the Twins did that, they’d have gotten an earful. In fact, they DID get a good chewing out. Just... it annoys me because DreamWorks is painting her to be some woman who abuses her position as Hiccup’s fiance to get what she wants. And that’s just insulting to Astrid’s character. It’s no wonder a lot of people hate Hiccstrid because of how DreamWorks paints her! X(

Killing off Alvin

I have recently found one of my favourite parts of making httyd (books) fanfiction, and that is killing off Alvin in new and exciting ways. There is nothing wrong with the way he was killed in the books, yeeted into the stratosphere is a great was to go, but a man as terrible as Alvin deserves MULTIPLE deaths. Here is a list of the ones I wrote because why not.

1 : shot in the face by an eight year old wanderer (Hiccup x reader)

2 : gruesomely stabbed to death by a psyco lovesick teen (Hiccup x yandere reader)

3 : getting the shit beat out of him by Termagant. (Ghosts Au, a lot for this au is unpublished and I don’t think Termagant would kill him, but it would still be VERY painful for Alvin)

4 : beheaded by Hiccup (Villain Hiccup au)

5 : just straight up noped out of existence by a teen girl god (Lucid)

Daggers and Daffodils Chap.13

Dagur x Reader 

Hi everyone, I'm happy to say since summer is nearly here chapters should start to come out more frequently, or at least be higher quality, I'm also happy to say I really enjoyed this one. Rewatching Riders of Berk reminded me of what drew me to his character in the first place, especially when compared to his character growth in RTTE. Enjoy the chapter!

Narrator POV

You frowned as Silvertongue huffed for the umpteenth time. He had become more protective and clingier since his first encounter with Dagur, and even more so from the events with Alvin. "Cmon' bud, I'll be fine. Besides Tuffnut will be with you" it did little to sooth him. You and the other riders were currently on the beach of dragon island thanks to a 'genius' training exercise thought up by Astrid.

Tuffnut was exaggerating his 'connection' to the dragons so he could skip out on the exercise, "Y/N, you have my word, I will treat Goldtooth like my own daughter" he said dramatically, placing a hand on his wing only to quickly withdraw it with a growl from Silvertongue. You raised a brow at him "It's Silvertongue, and he's a boy". After grabbing your empty satchel from Silvertongue (the only gear you were allowed, so you could gather any herbs for medicine), you said your final goodbyes and split up to make camp and cross the island.

It was dark with only the moon to light your way through the islands forest. You continued to wander until you found an open clearing: open enough so you'd be able to see danger and surrounded by tall trees to hide under, not too many herbs, but it would do, and clear of any clouds large and dark enough to pose the threat of rain, "Seems as good a place as any".

Hiccup had expected to scold Snotlout for his lack of stealth when he walked into the small campsite. He was not expecting a deranged Dagur to tackle him to the ground.

"Dagur!" he was lifted into the air. "Hiccup old friend! You're alive!" Dagur pulled him into a hug. "Oh yeah- Haven't seen you since-" "Since you saved me from that dragon attack back on Berk. You fought off" his grin widened, "A night fury" Hiccup swallowed nervously.

"I mean you were like" Dagur fawned as he made sound effects while swinging his sword [Authors note, sorry I just had to point out how adorable this scene was]. "And then Y/N told me to run, and I was like: NO!" he said, face contorting angrily at the end before softening as he continued. "But then she got all assertive and-" Hiccup suddenly felt extremely uncomfortable when Dagur paused, and he noticed Dagur's cheeks turning pink, and his smile become dopey. All at once though Dagur seemed to realize, "How is Y/N? Is she safe?" He grabbed Hiccup's shoulders ignoring his personal space, but hey, that wasn't new.

"Y/N? Y-yeah, she's fine" Dagur sighed releasing Hiccup. "Good. I mean- I knew she'd make it but-" he paused before his gaze narrowed at Hiccup. "So, what are you doing here?" He pointed his sword at Hiccup making him retreat slowly.

"Don't answer that. I know exactly what you're doing" Dagur said before Hiccup could speak.

"You do?"

"Oh yeah, I do. You're here for the exact same reason I am, Hiccup. You're here to hunt dragons" Hiccup blanked out for a second, 'well, that's not what I thought you were going to say but sure'. "Ok- You got me. That's what I'm here for, all by myself" Dagur lowered his sword before getting closer to Hiccup. "So, whatever happened to that night fury, Hiccup?".

"Oh yeah well, just- Bad news, it got away". "Thats great news Dagur said shaking Hiccup before wrapping his arm around Hiccup. "New plan: you and I are going to hunt the unholy offspring of lightning and death itself. We're going to take down that night fury once and for all".

Hiccup's breath caught in his throat, with the dragons/specifically Toothless on the island, this wasn't going to end well. 'It'll be fine' he reasoned with himself, 'As long as I keep Dagur away from the cave they'll be fine' however his eyes suddenly widened in fear, and he stumbled back, falling onto the log Dagur was sitting on. He had left Tuffnut with the dragons. 'Oh Thor'.

"Hiccup, ever since I left Berk, I haven't been able to stop thinking about you" Dagur said fiddling with his sword in thought. "Well, that's kinda strange".

"I KNOW!" he yelled with a deranged smile, "Especially since It's usually your sister, huh" his smile then dropped.  Hiccup was really starting to get tired of his mood swings.

You had just finished gathering a few peonies when you heard a faint howl in the distance, one that seemed to be getting closer. "I didn't know dragon island had wolves".  Reasoning that being in an open field wouldn't be the best place anymore: now that you could easily be surrounded by a pack of wolves, you gathered your things and wandered into the woods. You had two close encounters with dragons, being a small swarm of Gronkles and a particularly upset Natter, but you were able to handle them with ease. You continued to make your way towards the cave when you heard a familiar high pitch scream not too far away.

Dagur was alerted at the sound of Snotlout and Fishleg's scream when they crashed into one another, drawing his crossbow in hopes of it being the night fury. "Fishlegs" Hiccup greeted. "Would you look, it's Dagur. Who is also out hunting dragons, just like us". "Hiccup, your definition of 'alone' and mine, are very different" Dagur said, "But perhaps thi-" a rustling in the bushes cut him off as he drew his weapon once more.

"Snotlout, could you be any louder?" you asked as you began approached where you heard the girlish scream.

Dropping his crossbow, the moment he heard your voice Dagur ran. Causing you to crash into him as you exited the bush. "Y/N" Hiccup dragged out in mock excitement, "I thought you were back on Berk. You know, while were HUNTING" he stressed. Despite Hiccups hidden meaning you were still trying to piece together what had just happened. Hearing a scream in one moment and face first in a wide chest the next... wait. Looking up you saw the familiar deranged smile, "Y/N, my love!" Dagur wrapped his arms around your waist, lifting you into the air.

"Your here! I take it back Hiccup. I like your definition of 'alone'". "Hiccup? mind explaining" you asked while Dagur was distracted burying his face in your hair. "We ran into Dagur, you know, while we were HUNTING" He said.

"Oh. Yeah" you said, dang it your acting had not improved. Being put back on the ground Dagur opted to rest his hand loosely on your waist. "Look at you!" you winced at the volume, "You look". "And not a scratch on you" Dagur said as he completed his once over of you. "You must of really did a number on that dragon. I wanna hear all about it, but first!" he pulled you into his side. One arm wrapped around you, the other gripped his crossbow, "Lets catch us a night fury" you gulped.

By a few minutes into the hunt for toothless most of your friends had already joined in after being caught. Eventually however, you had stumbled onto him.

"The night fury! Hiccup, my brother, you've done it. You've led me right to it!" Dagur cheered aiming his crossbow. You prepared to knock his arrow out of range, a last effort resort that would most likely blow your cover. When Hiccup tried to distract Dagur, arguing he should be the one to kill the night fury. Thankfully a swarm of Terrors Astrid had released swarmed Dagur enough to where his shot missed and allowed for toothless to get away.

"What's wrong with you? I almost had those Terrible Terrors! They were in my hand" Astrid yelled at Dagur. "Terrors shmerrors! We're hunting a night fury. Did you leave anyone back on Berk?" He rolled his eyes and went to retrieve his bolt.

"Did he say, hunting a night fury?" Astrid asked when he was out of ear shot. "Yup, that's exactly what he said" Hiccup deadpanned.

"But toothless is-" "I know" Hiccup interupted. "And if he's loose. then so are the other dragons" you felt your stomach drop at the thought of Dagur quite possibly hurting Silvertongue, or worse.

"You guys need to find Ruff and Tuff, grab your dragons, and get out of here." Hiccup said. "Hiccup, I won't be able to leave without Dagur noticing" you said. "I know, but we'll have to come up with something. If the other dragons are loose, it's only a matter of time before Silvertongue tracks you down. And something tells me he hasn't grown to like Dagur in the span of a few hours" you nodded.

"We're not leaving you". "Don't worry, Dagur won't hurt us" Hiccup said, "Y/N is out of the question. And besides, I'm his 'Brother'". Dagur entered the conversation throwing his arm around yours and Hiccups shoulders, "Come, while the trail is still fresh" he lifted you both almost effortlessly carrying you down the trail. "I can't hunt with an entourage. Go back to Berk leave us with our business".

"Y'know Y/N" Hiccup said making sure Dagur could hear, "I'm sure dad is wondering where you are, and we have this handled. Why don't you go home?" you nodded frantically and tried to pry yourself from Dagur.

Dagur laughed normally before it grew maniacal and angry, then stopping abruptly his smile returning. Daur placed both of you back on the ground" don't be foolish Hiccup, Y/N wants to see me kill this hellish beast. Right?" suddenly all his attention was back on you, and you didn't know if you wanted to run from his intense gaze or stay in it forever. Not knowing how to answer you stayed quiet, your salvation coming in the form of toothless, who was back in sight.

The chase restarted, Dagur taking the lead, shooting a bolt every now and then. "You're not going to hit anything like that" you said catching your breathe. "I know that. I'm just trying to keep him running in that direction" he shot a flaming arrow into the sky. "What was that?" Hiccup asked. "To be honest hiccup, I didn't exactly come alone either" he chuckled as a number of flaming arrows returned fire, responding to his signal. "Dagur, nightfurys are very lethal. A few men won't make a difference".

"Really, you think so? Lucky for us I brought the armada along, and like a bazillion armed Berserkers". Irritated beyond belief you hit Daur in the back of the head. Dagur let out an offended noise turning to you before softening slightly. You put on the charm, smiling lightly, "Bug". "Thank you, my love" he smiled. He turned to continue the hunt, and your smile dropped, Hiccup giving you a look. "What?!". Hiccup sighed, "Nothing, Just wait until this is over and you can hit him as much as you want".

You gasped as your attention was drawn bac to toothless who was cornered at the cliffs by Dagur and his crossbow. Hiccup clenched his fist before finally losing his patience, "Ok, that's it. I am not going to let you kill that dragon". "This again" Dagur said annoyed, "Fine, you saw it first. You can take home a wing or something". "No, I'm pretty much going to take the whole thing" he said.

"Hiccup? Right now? Here?  We're doing this?!" You asked hearing a familiar roar approach from the woods. "Yep, right now" Hiccup did his dragon call, causing toothless to jump over Dagur and stand at Hiccups side. You in turn let out yours, however it was most likely unnecessary considering the very upset Silvertounge that came hurdling out of the woods a second before you called and stood protectively between you and Dagur.  

Dagur stood mouth agape for a few seconds before finally speaking, "Is that a-".

"Saddle?" Hiccup answered, "Yes Dagur. Thats exactly what it is". His gaze suddenly shifted to you, and you couldn't help but avert your eyes. Silvertongue on the other hand did not enjoy this newfound attention on you and let out a defensive roar. "And that!?" he yelled, "The dragon from the arena?! You didn't kill it, did you?!". Anger began to swell in you at the idea of Dagur wanting you to kill your own Dragon, "No. I didn't" your blank expression and monotone voice caught Dagur off guard once again, and you and Hiccup mounted your dragons.

"So, I was-". "Right, all along" Hiccup confirmed, "We do not hunt dragon on Berk. We ride them". "Your father lied to me" Dagur locked eyes with you then Hiccup, "You lied to me!" you swallowed, tightening your grip on Silvertongue's saddle to keep your blank expression, despite the wave of guilt that had crashed into you.

"He was trying to keep the peace between our tribes, Dagur" you reasoned. "By making a fool out of me?!". "You don't really need a lot of help with that, Dagur" Hiccup said. He was about to take a step towards you when both toothless and Silvertongue forced him back. "Your move" Hiccup challenged.

"You could have been my brother Hiccup, now you're my enemy" he looked to you, "You twisted her mind, and turned her against me!". "I made every one of my choices by myself. Hiccup had nothing to do with it".

"Just wait Y/N, I'll find you. Then I'll bring you back home" Dagur's face shifted from insanity to determination as if he thought he was saving you, and then back to its derangedness when Hiccup spoke. "Have it your way. But remember, we have the dragons. And we are not afraid to use them". Taking off, you looked back to where Dagur stared at you. "Just you wait Hiccup! I'll have my nightfury! And my queen!". You turned away, gripping your saddle. "You ok?" Hiccup asked.

"So, Berk does train dragons" a Berserker warrior said, "I should kill that runt and his traitor sister for lying". Dagur shoved the Berserker against the ships mast "No! No one hurts Hiccup. No one! Except me" a smile spread across his face at the idea. His smile suddenly faded, "And anyone who lays one finger on Y/N, will answer to me" he chuckled, "well, me and a pod of Scauldrons while their tied to the back of the ship" the crew of Berserkers gulped. "I'll have my queen, and my nightfury. And Hiccup will rue the day he made a fool of me" his deranged smile resurfaced as he stared in the direction of Berk.
