(Snotface Snotlout from Book 10: "How to Seize a Dragon's Jewel")
What do you guys think about me writing a what-if whump-tragedy fic where Hiccup died instead of Snotlout, leaving Snotlout to have to take up the mantle and become King of the Wilderwest in Hiccup's stead with a Seadragonus Giganticus Maximus-sized burden of guilt on the side?

@anhttydbookfan Blustering barnacles, HBF, this is so CATCHY, I swear!! 🤩😍
I can totally see Fishlegs No-Name composing this and singing/speaking this at Hiccup's Hall.
Makes me wanna do my own now. 😂
@common-or-garden-blog Agreed, Cowell's villains are certainly unique and entertaining. And certainly evil, but not thoughtlessly so. They're still rather complex for villains in a children's series.
And certainly, Norbert is a good one. In fact, maybe I should do a ballad for him.
Consider.... Rasputin style song but about Alvin
Ithink it could work
I know Alvin was actively attempting Mass Dragon Extinction and Rasputin was, ya know
Not Doing That
But Alvin was a whore that wouldnt die and so i think for the song itself it could work

I know we collectively agree that Hiccup isn’t romantically inclined, and his getting married and having kids didn’t make sense in the epilogue, but consider: Hiccup getting married for political reasons.
It’s a marriage of alliance, which is recognized both by him and his partner, and they enter it without expectations of romantic involvement. Since they’re now married, they live in the same castle, spend time together, and Hiccup finds he really likes his spouse. They’re funny, get along with his friends, and has the same interests and values. They both probably speak multiple languages. She understands why Hiccup is so dedicated to making the Wilderwest better, and holds similar views. She’s a good politician (her job after all, was to be an ambassador). Hiccup likes spending time with them, and the feeling is mutual. They’re not in love, they have their own lives, but they’re dedicated to each other and eventually decide to raise children. They teach their kids how to train hawks and hunt with dragons, riding, history, the Languages, and all the necessary skills of their world. They’re not in love and they’re happy together.
#pushing the aromantic hiccup agenda and also the queerplatonic agenda#as much as the idea of hiccup getting married was always a little off to me it was more the romantic angle#which I why I like the idea of a marriage of alliance and a partner who understands that#and then of course the montage of them being a good team and getting along#and going ‘yeah I like this person. I think this is the person I want to spend my life with.’#also a) a lot of arranged political marriages did have the foreign spouse function as an ambassador#b) polyglot hiccup is canon and I think it would be neat if his spouse was as well. it is a marriage alliance after all.#she isn’t from the small area of berm#(actually give all the Vikings regional accents. I think it’s neat)#c) she/they because I didn’t feel firmly about the partner’s gender and the nords were pretty gender diverse#anyway I think the partner would probably be fond of the library and admire hiccup got it open way back when#get along with Fishlegs and camicazi well enough#and enjoy dramatic stories of their adventures. maybe have some of her own#also: normalize people having their own lives outside their partners. hiccup and they are happy together but also have their own friends#oh and you know hiccup would be a great dad. he loves Stoick but he would so much be the dad he wished he had growing up#are the kids bio related? are they adopted (cast off and No Names)? who knows!#I could build in my head what hiccup’s spouse is like but I’ll leave it here#they exist as we construct them#httyd#httyd books#my post#book!hiccup#hiccup the third#hiccup horrendous haddock iii#book hiccup

I finaly got ideas for ant's nightfury and armory desing and Fontaine's desing is still if progress of doing but for now i have ideas on ant and he will have the same color pattern like will.but i dont think i will do him this week because today shcool straded and i dont get any time after shcool because i need to finish a mural i was working on for shcool and when i get back home i get 0 motivation on drawing so i gusse i will work on him if i get a gap of free time or on the weekend .i also have to do Fontaine,Jacques and Kathryn nightfury and armory desing and i also remember to make jeffrey but he will be inspired from toothless from the book but with jeffrey colors wich i think is a good idea i didn't do roxy as a dragon because i have no idea on how her desing or color pallette would go.but i really want to work on ant and i was going to do start with nightfury ant since working on the nightfury desing are much longer and harder than drawing them as humans with armor but my mom got me distracted with something but will try to work on him as soon as i can.
Tumblr media
Ant will get this pattern but the circles will be blue instead of orange and his body will have different tones of orange like will has of his desing.

Not gonna lie, Roman Alvin looks wonderful! 🤩
Perhaps I should do a short story about Alvin joining the Roman Legion and appealing to the Roman Empire to help him conquer the Archipelago. 🤔
He looks like he's about to tell you about the Roman Empire...
Tumblr media
(also why does he look like Bill Nye? That was not intentional, I swear! But the more I colored, the more it dawned on me...)
I haven't done digital art in a long while. I'm not really good at it, but this is pretty decent.

Again not a dungeon meshi reader/watcher but every time I hear about that laois guy I get reminded of how my system had/has a hyperfixation on dragons so intense that we got that big fancy dragonology book and we treated it like the damn dragon Bible for like years
Now, obviously, we understand that there's different interpretations on mythical creatures, and no one interpretation on a dragon is necessarily gospel, but that multiple interpretations on the classic tale of beasts of scale and fire are completely valid and to be expected!
however if you call an Eastern dragon a coatl I'm going to come to your house and slaughter your family
#THEY'RE COMPLETELY DIFFERENT#yes they have similarities but coatls have WINGS typically and dont usually have other limbs. they're more serpentine birds#meanwhile Eastern dragons (Chinese depictions for example) don't typically have wings and are more lizard-like#like Mushu !!!!!!!! Mushu is an Eastern dragon#and then there's drakes and wyrms. which are entirely different bc they can't really fly#drakes are more like draconic horses or dogs. no wings but four limbs and a tail with a reptilian appearance#wyrms are more serpentine with no limbs and no wings. though i think some interpretations of wyrms give them like.. two forelimbs#then there's wyverns. wyverns have two legs and two wings instead of the typical eight limbs (four limbs two wings)#(i also perosnally hold true to the interpretation of wyverns with poisonous stingers for tails but that's just me cause i think its cool)#..... how much of this is just me talking abiut dragons#explodes.#oh yeah and obv there's the HTTYD interpretations which i adore! they're interesting#the designs are so fascinating and from what ive seen seem to have some science behind them#and arent just the typical western style of dragons. which nothing wrong with the western style it's a classic ofc#but it's still fun to see some variation!!#and ofc there's WOF#which holds true to Western dragons in simple anatomy but has its own variations and of course its own lore#then there's. fuck i forget the name but it's a fantasy story based in China i believe#i loved it so much it was so cool#anyways it had a dragon character named Seryu. I love Seryu. he my favorite#anyways i liked the interpretation of dragons there bc iirc it held true to ummmmm some Chinese mythology involving dragons#cause Eastern mythology of drahons is . so much diffetent than Western#Western dragons are commonly very monstrous creatures‚ usually very animalistic#they tend to embody the Christian concept of greed/gluttony hence why they're so typically monstrous/villainous#which i find interesting but i wont get into that#meanwhile. i wanna say Eastern dragon legends more revolve around the idea of a dragon as more of a godly/fae-type creature?#that's probably a poor comparison but that's how i interpreted it. agian im probahly wronf about all of this#im some weirdo rambling about dragons on the internet. dont trust me explicitly#i need to get more dragon mythology books#HELP I REACHED THE TAG LIMIT I DIDNT THINK THAT WAS POSSIBLE GOOD LORD OKAY I'LL SHUT UP NOW

HTTYD Retelling Fanfic Poll
Here's a poll for ya. If and when I ever decide to get working on my Berkian Sagas — or the HTTYD Retelling, which seeks to fix things about the series — what setting should I go with?
Keep in mind that regardless of your choice, the human-dragon conflict will still remain. But how Berk fights that conflict will depend on your vote.
Personally, I kinda found it silly that Berk never used dragons to fight dragons like they did in the Books. I also found it silly that Berk was the only Tribe to ride dragons, afterwards. Maybe it was because of politics and nobody wanted to train dragons, but... I find it hard to believe that Berk never taught any of the other Tribes how to train dragons.
But then... the plot potential of Berk sending representatives to teach others on how to train dragons as a diplomatic and political gesture sounds pretty cool, actually. 👀😮🤔
Anyway, I'm getting ahead of myself. Here's the poll. 😅

YOU ALSO LIKE THE HTTYD BOOKS??? HELL YES. i have. been losing it over hiccup the second for. hours. and how hes the whole reason the story of the httyd books YET DOESNT EVEN FUCKING APPEAR ONCE IN THE HTTYD MOVIES. theres no hiccup the second equivalent. what the fuck. i could fit them in so easily. make them background context for why the majority of the archepeliago is hostile with dragons. hiccup the seconds death happened and the whole dragon rebellion happened very far ago leading to this sort of hostility but it was so long ago nobody really remembers and hiccup the second is vaguely remembered but nothing important about him actually is. furious doesnt even need to still be alive for this to work. hiccup the second. hautning the narrative. i like him
Ok first off. AHHHHHHH YES YES YES HELLO FELLOW HICCUP THE SECOND STAN!!!!! i actually watched the movie first and then the book so i was like "wow cool" on the first watch but Oh my god i would be so lying if i said i never once wished for a hiccup the second in the movies. Like i KNOW the movies are basically like a whole different thing from the books after the first one but?? BUT???? Idk im very biased i love the guy. Ik you pointed this out but he really is the reason for literally everything in the books if you care enough to look into it and i really do think him being some sort of background lore in the movies would be so cool.. *digging thru the httyd ao3 tags*
incidentally if you ask me to choose between the movies and the books i would say the books in a heartbeat. i love the movies it's one of my favorites but a) the books made me cry harder b) theres no hiccup the second OR hiccup the first c) the book lore is absolutely golden and ive never seen anything else top it and d) the movies overwrote fishlegs into almost non-existance which. HELLO?? EXCUSE ME???????

HTTYD Book Fanfic Idea Poll
Hello, my fellow Dragonmarkers! Today, I've decided to make a poll. There are several ideas I'd like to work on, however, I'm struggling to choose which one to start on first. Granted, I have a feeling I know what you guys want me to work on first, but I still want to ask anyways. 😏
So before you vote, I'd like to list down the options below and a little summary as to what each choice will be about.
『 These story ideas will try to cling to canon events as much as it can, or at least be loyal to it as canon-inspired. 』
<><><><><><><>
Exile on Cannibal Isle
(Book 1) What if the adults had decided to banish their youth that evening after their failure, regardless of the thunderstorm? Our hapless youths end up becoming Outcasts — not on the Mainland, as planned, but on Cannibal Isle instead: an island filled with natives and Outcasts who had a fondness for human flesh. How will Hiccup, Thuggory, and Co. escape their current predicament? And will they return in time before the Green Death roasts their Tribes to well-done human kabobs?
The Viking Tribes of the Barbaric Archipelago
This is a nonfiction fanfic that dives into the geography, history, culture, and customs of every Viking Tribe in the Archipelago (in the Books). You can look at this as a Guide to the Archipelago (an All You Need to Know About X book), or as a history book composed by a future historian. Take your pick.
Thuggory's Saga
This story will be on Thuggory's POV throughout the Books and what was going on behind the scenes when Thuggory wasn't around.
Thuggory Name Parody Series
This work will be a one-shot series consolidated into one story that has Thuggory doing various things based on what his name is (i.e. Thuggory will be thuggish, Muggory will be drinking a mug or mugging somebody, Chuggory will be chugging ale, etc).
Fishlegs' Saga (Saga of the No-Names)
(Post Book 12) Fishlegs saga unfolds during the Reign of Hiccup the Third, King of the Wilderwest, and accounts his rise to power as Chieftain of the No-Name Tribe and as Chief of the Bards.
The Tale of Two Swords
Told from Endeavor's POV (and sometimes from Stormblade's), this story delves into their respective origins, how they came into the hands of their respective owners, and the events leading up to the conflict between Alvin the Treacherous and Hiccup the Third. Two swords, two grudges, two wills, two forces, and two ideologies will clash for supremacy!
Hiccup's Saga
(Post Book 12) This story will focus on Hiccup's story AFTER his ascension as the 13th King of the Renewed Kingdom of the Wilderwest. As well as his achievements, his experiences, his struggles, and his life milestones. This will try to stay loyal to the books and to the books' epilogues.
Hiccup the First's Saga
Told from Hiccup's POV until he meets Wodensfang, which will then transition to Wodensfang's POV ever afterwards. This will get into the details of his birth, the war with the Uglithugs, the Hooligans getting ousted from the Mainland and their migration to Berk; it will get to Hiccup's childhood and adolescence, the start of the brutal Human-Dragon Wars, and how he eventually meets Wodensfang; then his defeat of Merciless/Green Death, the founding of the Kingdom of the Wilderwest, and his achievements and milestone events as King, until his death.
Hiccup's Young Chief AU
This story idea dives into what would happen if Hiccup had to become the new Chief of Berk early on in his youth. From this point, we have several options to choose from.
1) Have this be a sequel to "Exile on Cannibal Isle" if the ending ends up being tragic for the adults, and Thuggory and Hiccup are left to pick up the pieces after slaying the Green Death.
2) Have this set in Book 2, if Stoick dies in the fight against Alvin, as a consequence of the curse of Grimbeard's treasure.
3) Have this set in Book 7, when Madguts the Murderous was about to execute Big Bertha and Stoick in revenge, and Hiccup failed to return on time.
4) Have this set in Book 9, when Stoick is missing (via Excellinor the Witch), and Hiccup never finds him again.
5) Have this set in Book 9 when all the adults are missing or perished, and the Warriors-to-Be are the only ones left in the School (aside from the Outcasts, obviously), and so everyone has to fight together in order to escape.
6) Have this set in Books 10/11 when Stoick dies in battle and Hiccup is forced to lead his Tribe in their fight against both Alvinsmen and Dragons.
Alvin's Saga (or Saga of the Outcasts)
(Pre-HTTYD) This focuses on Alvin's origins: from his birth, to his upbringing, to how he turned his Tribe into one of the most "modern" and dangerous Tribes in the Archipelago, how he came across the Legend of the King's Lost Things, his fateful encounter with his future arch-nemesis Hiccup, and his gradual elevation to ultimate power. I might have this story end once he meets with Hiccup. Or maybe I end it with his death. That's up to you guys.
Snotface Snotlout's Saga
(Pre-HTTYD / HTTYD) This story focuses on Snotface Snotlout's origins: from his birth, to Hiccup's birth, to the origin of his rivalry with him, and so on — right up to his death! (Or I could keep him alive instead?)
Wodensfang's Saga
This saga focuses on Wodensfang's origins: His birth, his life, how he ended up in Merciless' rebellion, how he meets Hiccup the First, his time with him, the days of his successors, the dark times of Grimbeard the Ghastly and Hiccup the Second, his time in the volcano with the crown, his meeting Hiccup the Third, the dark times of Furious' rebellion, Hiccup's crowning, and the events afterwards.
<><><><><><>
Sadly, due to the limits of the poll, I was unable to add more. So here's the rest of them.
Wilderwest Whumpfest
A one-shot series focusing on whumping various characters in the books. This could be something minor like fatigue or backaches, sickness or injuries, sorrow for something, or even something as extreme as actual death or tragedy.
Companions of the Dragonmark
This work, as you already know from a previous post, focuses on platonic pairings in this series. There will be various types, such as human & dragon, human & weapon, human & human, human & pet, etc. Also includes friends, family, mentor-student, and even stranger (first time meeting) or acquaintance relationships.
Antagonistic Pairing Series
This work is something that I’ve just recently came up with, which focuses on antagonistic pairings. This can be pairings between hero/villain, villain/villain, villain/antagonist, hero/antagonist, antagonist/antagonist, etc. Pairings can include, Hiccup and Alvin, Snotlout and Thuggory, Alvin and Excellinor, UG the Uglithug and Excellinor, Madguts and Big Bertha, Snotlout and Hiccup, etc.
I’m liking this because nobody really writes fanfics that focuses on antagonistic pairings. Only romantic and platonic pairings.
<><><><><><>
Thank you very much for your support! I look forward to the results of your votes, and I'll let you guys know what the top 3 choices are once the poll's closed.
Long Live the Wilderwest!
— Companion of the Dragonmark

Personally, I don't have a problem with the armor, since as a King, he needs armor to protect him. That being said, you are correct that it shouldn't be HTTYD-film-inspired and should instead be chainmail made of dragon teeth, along with a dragonskin fire suit, along with his Roman shield, sword, etc. Maybe a nicer helmet. Like what @yv-sketches has made.
Tumblr media
In all honesty, while Windwalker probably inspired film Toothless, in part, I agree that she shouldn't add film elements to her books, since what she had in her books was what gave them charm.
In fact, I'm even an advocate that the films should've been more loyal to the books instead of what we got. Don't get me wrong, the films were good (at least HTTYD 1), but they would've been better if they stuck to the Books, plot-wise and even added book characters like Camicazi, Thuggory, Old Wrinkly, Valhallarama instead of Valka, book Alvin instead of the Alvin that we got in the TV show, etc.
<><><>
Honestly, if Cressida Cowell is going to write new HTTYD books, it would be nice if she would dive into the stories of lesser-known characters. I mean, she's got a lot of characters that, in my opinion, should have their own spin-off series. Or at least a short story.
Here are just some possibilities:
How Stoick and Valhallarama met and his Quest for the Fire Stone (egg)
Old Wrinkly's past
Wodensfang's story on how he met Hiccup the First in more detail
A story on Hiccup the First and his journey as First King of the Wilderwest.
A series of short stories on Grimbeard's childhood and reign as the Last King of the Wilderwest.
A short story or a spin-off short series on Hiccup the Second.
A short story on the Succession Crisis and Grimbeard's Last Quest after the fall of the Wilderwest.
A short story on Chucklehead and how he ruled Berk
A short story on the Outcasts
A short story on Thuggory, or about the Meatheads in general
A short story on Camicazi and the Bog-Burglars after Book 3.
A short story on Termagant and Alvin
A short story on Alvin's Quest for the Lost Things and his reign as Chief of the Outcasts.
A story on Humungous Hotshot and his Quest to Woo Valhallarama and how he came to be a Slave on Lava-Lout Island
Short story on how Hiccup the Third was imprisoned in Danger-Brute Dungeon and how he escaped
Short story on Humungous Hotshot and Tantrum adventuring.
Short story on how Humungously Hotshot and Tantrum met.
Short story on what happened to UG the Uglithug after the events of Book 9.
Short story on Snotlout and how he came to have a rivalry with Hiccup.
Short story on how Fishlegs came to Berk and became friends with Hiccup.
Heck, do a short story about the Two Swords, Dragonsword and Stormblade and their history.
Do a short story about each of the Kings of the Wilderwest and a summary of their reigns, and just on the history of the Wilderwest Kingdom, in general.
Story about Valhallarama's Quest for the Lost Things
Short Story on how Gobber stole "How to Train Your Dragon" from the Meathead Library.
A short story on how Windwalker ended up captured by the Visithugs and found later by Hooligans.
A short story on how the Romans came into the Archipelago and built Fort Sinister.
A collection of short stories about various Heroes of the Archipelago, such as Hairy Longbottom, and other explorers and heroes who explored and conquered the Barbaric Archipelago.
A short story on Humungously Hotshot's exploits and Quests.
A short story that explains how Norbert the Nutjob survived the Doomfang and came back disguised like a Wanderer.
A short story on Bigjob, Norbert's father, and how he found the Land-That-Does-Not-Exist.
A short story on Flashburn and his men.
A short story on Madguts and Gumboil
A short story on Merciless/Green Death and his journey before hibernation.
A short story on Ziggerastica and his swarms before and after Book 3.
A short story on One Eye from Book 4.
But definitely, WITHOUT EXCEPTION, there needs to be a sequel or at least a series of short stories that narrate Hiccup the Third's reign as the 13th King of the Wilderwest!!!
Quite honestly, if Cressida Cowell isn't planning on writing any of these stories anytime soon, then I suppose I'll have to write fanfics for them myself and expand the HTTYD Books universe for her on my own time. 💪🏻😤
I might get hated for saying this, but to be 100% honest, I am not excited about the new series at all.
I am almost dreading it, for I fear that Cressida may be inserting movie features into the following books… which is really, really not good.
But I saw that illustration at the end of the new story… and I am afraid that is what is happening. (The book has not arrived yet, but I have seen photos of it many times)
Seeing book Hiccup wearing movie Hiccup’s armor and prosthetic was like a nightmare come to life to me.
I fear for my dear Hiccup, whom I deeply respect for his personality, and who has taught me almost everything I believe in in this world. I truly hope that Cressida will not go as far as to change him into someone like movie!Hiccup—whom he is not
And I believe— no, I have done analyses and I know— that old Hiccup intended for his memoirs to end there, at How to Fight a Dragon’s Fury, when he became King and ended the war. He circled it back to the beginning (“In my beginning is my end… There were dragons when I was a boy.”), and said that it was complete, that his own life and his role as narrator was complete, and he could rest now (in the sense that he would soon die: “When Toothless flies to me next time, it will be for the last time.”)
An entire sequel series (not just short stories) would, break a considerable amount of symbolism here, even possibly rendering some of the messages and themes in the books as no longer true— especially if it starts to take after the movies. The books and movies are so vastly different that, to me, it seems disrespectful to mix them together.
A sequel might damage the books. An attempt to mix httyd movie elements into it will almost definitely destroy it.
I can’t bear to see it happen.
These books, written by Cressida, and by Hiccup the Third, have shaped me so greatly and made me who I am today, and have been one of the brightest and steadiest lights in my life. If this, my haven, my mental home, becomes ruined, it will be like tearing my vital heart out of my chest.
I cannot and will not leave. But if the worst does happen, especially if Hiccup becomes out of character, then I will be ready to disregard any sequel as canon.
I did not say this earlier, partly because I secretly hoped that it wouldn’t be true, and partly because I did not want to upset those in the fandom who are being so joyful about all of it.
Unfortunately I really cannot share that attitude.
And I also glimpsed a few others, who might have been thinking along similar lines as I did.
Eventually I decided that someone had to speak up and address the issue floating huge in front of us. That is why I wrote this.
I do not want to upset or anger anyone. I just wanted more people in this fandom to realize and know this.

i will never understand how or why the httyd movies did the books such an injustice.
the movies aren't even an adaptation - they stole the name of the series, the name of some of the characters and places, and the general idea that there are dragons. honestly, i would be fine with the movies and maybe even like them if they didn't capitalize off of cressida cowell's incredible books that never get any credit.
the books are an amazing story about the cycle of violence and how vengeance and revenge is dangerous. hiccup says that the past is a ghost story, one we need to learn from to better ourselves. the books are about how everyone deserves freedom, how every creature, every being on the earth deserves to be free. we see that in the slavemark, with the dragons.
and like... hiccup is so different. they did him a severe injustice. he's scrawny and intelligent and learned to talk to dragons simply by observing them! he chooses kindness first above all else; instead of yelling at toothless to train him, he is kind. and in the end, that kindness is why toothless chose to save him. bc even toothless himself says that dragons are inherently selfish creatures who care only for their survival. hiccup is brave - his beliefs differ drastically from both the vikings and the world.
hiccup is a child who chose to do the right thing even at the expense of himself. he agreed to free the slaves on nobert's ship, and in return, they gave him the slavemark which is easy to give but cannot be removed. he was like twelve. and having the slavemark means he cannot be with his tribe or his family, it means he isn't considered a human being anymore. and he keeps it a secret for awhile until it's revealed and when it is everyone turns their backs on hiccup. his family, his tribe, his mentor, people he TRUSTED. everyone except fishlegs, and, once she got over the shock, camicazi. he was thirteen. and even when he lost his memories and was really injured, he persisted. he was told to go to tomorrow and to save the dragons and he did bc in his heart he knew it was right even though he didn't know who he was or how he got there.
and fishlegs,,, oh my god FISHLEGS!!! the did him SO DIRTY!!! fishlegs is hiccup's best friend, one of the main motivators for hiccup. he steals norbert's potato for the sake of fishlegs, he gives fishlegs his dragon and goes to retrieve another, he takes the blame for fishlegs. and fishlegs does the same for him. he takes the slavemark with pride. he refuses to turn. he gives hiccup his lobster claw necklace which is his most prized possession. he is brave for hiccup, he believes hiccup is alive. he fights for hiccup harder than anyone else ever has. he does not turn. his is loyal, has allergies, has asthma, has a squint and a limp, has glasses bc he's blind without them... and he's still a hero despite being a runt, despite everyone even the adults telling him he's hopeless, telling hiccup to leave him behind.
and they cut camicazi! i'm sorry, but astr*d is nothing compared to camicazi. camicazi is a tiny, feral child who can easily best hiccup, fishlegs, and pretty much anyone in a sword fight. she can bring a grown man to tears with her rudery and smack talk. she is recklessly brave and craves adventure and follows hiccup blindly bc she trusts him that much. she isn't in love with hiccup - in fact she doesn't care about romance and love. she gives up everything to help hiccup bc she has a strong sense of justice. she is the motivator, the cheerleader, she finds a positive in everything. she never gives up. literally never gives up. and that's one of the most inspiring things about her: she always has hope.
and toothless! god!!! toothless is *thought to be* a common or garden dragon. he is horrifically tiny, he is literally toothless, and is the biggest brat in the world. he will cause problems on purpose. he has a stutter, he's the most selfless selfish dragon around. he and hiccup can talk to each other. he masks his fear with singing and being annoying. his growth is remarkable. he starts off refusing to obey hiccup, doing the opposite of what he says, making life harder for literally everyone around him, and he's still somewhat like that. but he's also braver, more caring, more willing to make sacrifices for the sake of others. he's clever, which he needs to be to make up for his size and aggression. he protects hiccup with everything he has, therefore, he protects what hiccup cares about just as hard. he was the only dragon that didn't abandon the vikings in the first book bc he cared about hiccup.
and snotlout,,, god,,, i will never forgive the movies for butchering snotlout. hiccup's cousin, the bully character, the one who is horrifically jealous that hiccup's dad was born before his. the one who desperately wants to prove himself, to be worthy, to make people proud. and you hate him, you despise him. he betrays everyone many times bc of the nothing promised to him by alvin and his mom. he loses himself, turns his back on himself, all bc he wants to prove himself. all bc he wants to be better than hiccup. and hiccup still forgives him and gives him chances, sometimes out of pity, but also bc snotlout is his cousin. he can't just turn his back on him no matter how miserable snotlout made his life. and in the end, snotlout sacrifices himself for hiccup. he gives up his life for hiccup in one last attempt to set things right. his death and the events preceding it are one of my absolute favorite moments in the book. gives me chills. makes me cry.
that's the thing with the books - they're so realistic. there is no inherently happy ending where everything works out. the first book begins with "there were dragons when i was a boy", implying that they're gone now. the books show there are consequences to our actions. they enslaved the dragons, they fought against them during the dragon rebellion all bc alvin and his mom said to, and now they're gone bc a simple apology doesn't fix hundreds of years of enslavement. and the only way for the world to move forward was for the dragons to leave and heal on their own. and now they have to learn to live without them. and yeah i've heard the third movie ends like that but. it doesn't have the build up. it doesn't have "there were dragons when i was a boy". it doesn't have eleven books of development to back it up, to make it feel meaningful.
i know that the movies are really special to a lot of people. i know that, on their own, they're genuinely good movies. i can acknowledge that the soundtrack is amazing and the animation is beautiful. i just can't see past the way they butchered the world that i love, the world that i grew up with. i can't see past the way people yelled at me for saying i liked the books better, the way that people gave me weird looks when i showed them a picture of the original toothless, when i tell them that nightfuries aren't even a type of dragon. cressida cowell created hundreds of different dragons, and the movies couldn't even pick from that. i can't forgive the way that barely anyone knows there are books bc the movie barely gives credit to them. i cannot forgive the way they capitalized off the books and then shoved them aside. i know cressida thinks they're good movies and i know a lot of httyd book fans also like them. but i just... i cannot get over how much they changed and how they missed so much and ignored the books. also they got rid of camicazi so hiccup could have a love interest and that is unforgivable to me.
if you disagree, that is a-okay. we're all entitled to our own opinions. i just ask that you, perhaps, try the books out. give them a chance. bc they're amazing works of art and also just like. don't yell at people who don't like the movies? whether it's bc they prefer the books or just aren't into that kind of movie. and just remember that dreamworks didn't come up with the story; cressida cowell did.
#corey talks:)#this has been in my drafts forever but i saw something that made me have feelings and so i finished it and here take this iuygfcvghuij#i justgod the books are SO GOOD and barely anyone knows theyexist#and i think that's what makes me the kost upset#or some [people chose to ignore they exist or don't give them a chance bc... i don't even know why. ppl are just so quick to dismiss them#the books are so important to me (literally got a httyd book tattoo) and i get most book fans also like the movies#but it sucks bc i can't go through the httyd tag without being bombarded with movie stuff#i'll even look up 'httyd books' and half of it is still about the movies.#i'll look up snotface snotlout and only finds movie stuff even tho ig they changed his last name in the movies???#i'll look up camicazi and find it filled with astr*d. WHAT.#i'll look u toothless and only see the freaking nightfury. not the original.#like god movie enjoyers at least tag correctly. i get you want ppl to see your posts but the more i see movie stuff in the book tag the mor#i hate the movies lol like the movies are so much more popular than the books let us have our tags okay#sorry if any of this sounds bitter also i hope it doesn't sound like i want to argue or fight#this is just my opinion and i have feelings and i just want ppl to know there are books#also i am not shaming anyone who likes the movies like i already said you do you boo just don't come at me for doing me#bc yes that has happened to me multiple times :) which is one reason why i get so upset :)#i just personally cannot separate the two. i know some ppl can and i'm glad! but i can't and that's okay too#httyd#httyd books

A Series between httyd2 and httyd3 would be much more interesting and creative than whatever they want to try with this live action remake
Don’t get me wrong, I love httyd with all my heart, but I rather see a series between httyd2 and 3 and a exact adaptation of the book, than a live action cash grab from a movie series, that is very near to my heart. But I can’t stop talking about the thought, how a series in between httyd2 and 3, which is based on the Comics and Ideas Richard Hamilton had for the franchise. His ideas are more creative than the live action train, we have to face. I‘d rather see a TV show about the httyd comics, then this useless live action remake. Just imagine how it would look like if the comics would come to life in the animation style of Chaos Theory and as cherry on Top, the same producers as from Chaos Theory. They have proven themselves in Camp Cretaceous and Chaos Theory, more than once. And I still think they would be a good pick if we ever got a sequel series to Rtte, that isn’t disrespectful against the original. If they would go in a more mature theme with more adult themes, like Hiccup having nightmares about the death of his father, Astrid and the duties she has to face as the Chiefs General and his future wife, how does she feels about becoming pregnant and having children, what plans does she and Hiccup have for the future, aside from marriage, explore Toothless‘ tragic backstory being the only night fury left and so on. Would make a lot more sense to finish this part of the story than whatever they want to do with the live action remake, aside from nostalgia bait, even if it was not even a decade since the last movie released, and money. I see no point in retelling an already great story. But no Hollywood and Universal want to be lazy and uncreative, again. The abuse of franchises just drives me nuts and now our beloved httyd is their next victim.

can i request some dumb bleiss facts, like is her guilty pleasure watching the most melodramatic soap operas
She REALLY Loves the cold - it's not like she hates the heat, she likes the sun and all, but the fuckin' FROST is where it is at for her! She'd walk into the Solitas Tundra with nothing but a swimsuit one to feel the cold bite into her.
It feels like the gooey, mushy bullshit is being stripped away to the clarity of the wild, frozen breeze.
She balls her fucking eyes out at every children's movie with a heartwarming ending, no matter how old she gets.
The Wild Robot, Treasure Planet, the first three toy stories, Shreck 4, both Inside Outs, WALL-E, all Three HTTYD's, The Brave Little Toaster, even stuff like The Spongebob Squarepants Movie.
Her favorite breakfast is Shakshuka, especially when it's got a nice kick to it.
When she was young, she had difficulty remembering people's names, so she'd give them nicknames to help.
That was, apparently, "Disrespectful to her guests" and she was ... Taught to refer to people by their actual names. That lesson has stuck with her.
A lot of her disrespect is just an act - a method of putting up walls and protecting herself. She is crude and Crass anyway, but she'll tone it down, be quieter, and actually give others a chance to speak. If you're lucky, she'll give you a meaningful nickname.
(Sister, Brother ,and Sibling are the highest honors she can bestow upon someone)
Weiss and Her braided each other's hair a lot when they were young. One of her greatest desires is to braid Weiss' hair again. She still knows how to do it perfectly.
(She hopes she does at least.)
While Weiss was all too happy to fawn over the Rusted Knight, Weiss was Jealous of Alyx.
She got to go on such an amazing adventure! See new places, meet new people!
(This manor is lonely and cold, and every hall is the same)
Bleiss was the favored of the twins by Willow. She Revels in it.
(Of Course she would. Her mother's love was hard to come by, but it was entirely free. Jacques love was plentiful, if you gave him your life and your freedom.)
She has insomnia.
(It's part of why she loves to party. All the moving and booze knocks you out cold.)
She's an introvert
(Humans are social beings, even the introverts. The other part of why she parties so much. The idea of someplace being as quiet and empty as the manor is more terrifying than any Grimm could be.)
She hates going on romantic dates.
(There's so much pressure to talk, to carry yourself in a proper manner. She doesn't mind quiet so long as it's not silent and empty. Can't you both read books together or something?)
She once a cockroach on purpose.
