10 Ways the Loki show Disappointed Me
part two
6) The trailer was misleading advertising. Marvelâs done it in the past with little to no backlash:
Iron Man 3 presenting the Mandarin as the ultimate foe for Tony to defeat, only to find out heâs a charlatan in a minor role.
Falcon and Winter Soldier was presented as a light-hearted buddy adventure, only to tackle darker themes about nationalism and racism. (Not saying that those themes were bad, just that the TFAWSâs trailer was not truthful to the story).
In the case of Loki, the trailer presented the plot as Loki making time-traveling shenanigans and being captured for breaking the timeline. They included the D.B Cooper clip, and the scenes of Loki in New York and as king in Asgard. These clips never show up in season 1. The D.B Cooper scene was a off-the-cuff moment, and the highly-anticipated (imo) President Loki was around for five minutes.
The trailer shows the storyline being about Loki breaking the timeline, with Mobius saying in a voiceover, âYou picked up the tesseract, breaking reality. I want you to help us fix it.â
Marvelâs publicity team knew what story we would want to see from the character. And thatâs not what we got: it was a mix of Loki tagging along with Sylvie to take down the Timekeepers, and detective-esque scenes of trying to overthrow the TimeKeepers.Â
It was never about Loki having an adventure, breaking the timeline, and having to fix it.
Thereâs a difference between having scenes that donât make it into the final product, between not revealing enough of the story to spoil plot twists...and deliberately choosing certain scenes and quotes to present a false version of the story.
I guess Marvel was worried that no one would watch it if they showed us the real product.
7)Â Â Â Lokiâs powers were wildly inconsistent, especially compared to what weâve seen before.
In the past, weâve seen Loki do illusions, duplication casting and in Thor 2, some very light telekinesis. After hearing of his motherâs death, he throws several pieces of furniture in into the cell walls with his mind. This is after losing the person who probably mattered most to him at the time, and feeling responsible for her death--itâs a powerful move showing his magical capabilities.
In the show, in Episode 3 we see him pull a Roomba towards himself in order to use it as a shield during a fight--pretty in-line with what we saw in the Dark World.
One episode later, an entire flipping tower is falling towards them, and he reverses it with his mind alone.
It was in the face of death, you say. Of course he was going to pull some cool new magical move.
Sure. In the face of death, I could see him jumping from throwing chairs to something heavier, like maybe a crumbling wall or a fruit stand.
BUT A TOWER?
 WHY?
 HOW??
Heâs never done anything on that scale magically. In episode 2, he got tossed around by a (human) Alabama man. Why would he not use that move to bring the roof crumbling down if he was fighting for his life then?
So heâs got massive telepathic power when a building is falling but canât use it in a fight against regular people.... okay?
Honestly, due to the fact that theyâve weakened him so much, and when Loki said, âI think weâre stronger than we realizeâ, Iâm betting Season 2 will include Loki discovering the extent of his magical powers.Â
I donât like this idea because again, it contradicts the previous canon. In Thor 1, Hogun literally calls Loki a âmaster of magicâ. He went toe-to-toe with Thor and the Avengers and now canât beat regular humans. A thousand+ year old being unaware of his own untapped potential doesnât seem correct (yeah, they did that with Thor in Ragnarok, I know).
This Lokiâs power levels jump up and down according to the plot, trying to make us believe that due to his spoiled past, Loki needs to apply himself to learn more about his powers.
 8) Loki was out of character.
His lying and scheming was way too obvious. I was incredibly confused the first couple of episodes because it would be strange how he would be a pathetic buffoon  one minute and yet The only moment I was sold on his competence as a liar was episode 2 at the renaissance fair where he attempts to fool  the TVA. He was actually competent for once, but he gets caught, and goes into apologizing and sucking up 30 seconds later.  Â
He gets drunk when theyâre on the mission on Lamentis. This didnât make sense--when he was trying to conquer Earth, he had the opportunity to also goof off and heâs always been shown to take things seriously, with the exception of Ragnarok.                                                Â
The âIâm a narcissistâ scene. While Loki is the type to crave attention--in Avengers, Tony calls him a diva who wants his name plastered to the skies--it comes from a place of feeling overshadowed, never able to match his brother Thor. Which we can see has some basis:
In Thor 1, his adopted parents raised him to hate his race,
lied to him about it,
and when he was hanging over an wormhole, his father finally rejected him.
In Avengers, Thor tells him in that his slights are âimaginedâ.Â
Thor 2, his adopted father told him his âbirthright was to dieâ.
While it doesnât excuse his actions in Thor and Avengers, itâs pretty clear that his family, particularly his father, have let him down.
So to make him experience character development and understand why he does what he does...the writers took him back to Asgard, and had Sif beat him up repeatedly until he admits he does terrible things because heâs a...narcissist.
It was pretty hard to watch that scene, especially because I related to Loki as someone who felt overshadowed and overlooked. He tried too hard to be what his family wanted, to show that he was âthe worthy sonâ.
But here in the fantastic year of 2021, this show decided to throw away all of that emotional nuance away.
 9) The costumes were bad.
The brown variant jacket with its ugly orange block letters.
The guard suit on Lamentis looked like a cross between a purple sweater and a plague doctor mask. honestly makes me shuder to see it
Lokiâs green-and-gold costumes are some of the most distinct, instantly recognizable outfits of the MCU. And he almost immediately loses it in the first episode. It ends being given to Sylvie, (like most of Lokiâs better characteristics) and he stays in a detective skinny-tie suit instead. The costume is okay, but it lacks the flair and style heâs had previously, and he never gains it back.
10) The season finale really did showcase this show in the best way-- ig hype followed by disappointment.
For five episodes, we rushed towards the ultimate villain, the mastermind behind it all. Episode 6 was like...being handed a pack of bubble wrap, swinging your hand hard, expecting that satisfying pop! only to have it slowly putter out with a sad little sound.
First, Kang looked like he got his costume from Party City. The purple cape isnât doing him any favors. Then, the man sat there and monologued for forty minutes, making jokes, telling us how he set the plot up, and how the multiverse worked.
I know Marvel gets flack for there always being an CGI climactic action scene, butâŠthey had 6 episodes leading up to the Big Bad, and for it to end that anticlimactically with a man in a Party City purple cape was a letdown. The finale had no menace, no teeth. In the words of Mobius, it was justâŠtalkie-talkie.
All in all, this show really suffered from ignoring Lokiâs past, where he would realistically be emotionally-wise, and a lack of focus on its title characterâs development. Settings and costumes being better/unique would be also be nice, especially given its popularity. At the end of the day, I donât see the character I empathized so strongly with in this show.

This Week in BL
April 2021 Part 1
Being a highly subjective assessment of one tiny corner of the interwebs.
Ongoing Series - Thai
Second Chance Ep 1 - living up to its name since it looks to be a series of redemption arcs. Launched with a college confession and a broken friendship, then a flash back to them as seniors in high school. Pairings include friends to lovers, nerd/jock, and maybe cafe boss/employee. Thereâs a lot going on, but itâs still... quiet and sweet. The script is pretty pat but itâs still WAY more watchable than Cupid Coach or Brothers and most of the acting is solid. Ep 1 tropes included: heâs in engineering, wound tending, fast & bicurious. This could turn into what I wanted My Gear & Your Gown to be. Fingers crossed.Â
Love Poison 2 Ep 1 & 2 turns out I did watch and report on season 1 (8 eps), season 2 seems equally unmemorable. Thai countryside setting, strong dialect, incomprehensible plot, camp side characters, and ghastly singing.Â
Y-Destiny Ep 1 (eng subs?) - opened with the sports romance enemies to lovers (they arenât going in the teaser order). When the couple got over fighting, the flirting was v cute, but the flipping SPONGE BATH trope had to rear its ugly head. Still, this series is shaping up to be less coy and more frank than most BL, better than expected. It feels, I donât know, gay-er or something? *** Sources were correct that each couple is getting (at least) 2 eps, and MDL has been updated to say this is a 15 episode series (not 7).Â
Cupid Coach 12 fin - The new Nite was great and should have been a main all along. It felt like we got a tiny nugget of what could have been in about 10 minutes worth of this last ep. It was way too slow with terrible editing and a criminally bad script, but at least it ended happy. Mostly, like Friend Forever, Iâm just disappointed that these two actors were done dirty by the series. Bad Cupid Coach, no screen caps for you.Â
Lovely Writer Ep 6 - breaking news, thereâs a het couple I like: toppy bi femme + soft boi = such a good pairing! I know, but this NEVER happens. Meanwhile, Sibâs secret is out, Gene is a bit of a drama queen, and the plot thickens. We half way through. Â
Brothers Ep 9 - Kaow had a serious moment of advice giving that was truly lovely. Lots of family dama made this a superior episode to... well... any of the others in this series. Which isnât saying much.Â
1000 Stars Ep 10 fin - at the start this series didnât grab me the way GMMTVâs last BL, Tonhon Chonlatee, did. But boy did it end 1000x better. Might have given us 2021âČs best forehead kiss. I enjoyed the ultra romantic cliff-top reunion kiss, and I LOVED the stinger flirting scene. That was an absolute gift we had no right to expect. This drama is a poster child for finishing on a high note (always focus on that dessert course). Final thoughts? This was FAR more a classic romance than it was BL. There were some BL tropes used but not many and most of them originated in the romance genre not yaoi. A picture perfect ending bumped 1000 Stars much higher up my best-of list than expected. Not sure how often Iâll rewatch it as a whole, but this last episode? Iâm probably rewatching it right now.Â
Ongoing Series - Not Thai
Dear Uranus (Taiwan GL) Ep 3 fin - I guess thatâs it? Okaaaaay Â
HIStory 4: Close To You (Taiwan) Ep 3 (AKA Ep 5-6) - we got actual legit gay culture not just BL (always appreciated) from XingSi. Iâm starting to find LiChengâs âshow them we fuckingâ hijinks hilarious rather than annoying (not sure why, maybe I just love a rubber chicken, or maybe it was the STUFFED CORN WITH THE TASSEL that did it).Â
-- H4 Moment of RANT --
Tropes included beach trip, thereâs only one bed, cook for him, baby is a floppy drunk, carry baby to bed, and.... drunk non-con. Whoopdedoo. Here we go again. Did TharnType teach us NOTHING? (Apparently it taught us if the chemistry is good enough, I have no morals at all.) At least H4 seems to be taking us out of cheese into serious when it comes to assault. Or is it?Â
I take back what I said last week about XingSi & YongJie being codependency + salvation trope, that only works if YongJie is the uke. Heâs NOT. So we got us an obsessive predatory villain with a possible redemption arc. Thatâs more common in crime dramas, mafia romance, and epic fantasy than BL. Itâs real hard to redeem a sexual predator in a reality-grounded universe like contemporary romance (See Kla in LBC1&2).Â
Next week is gonna be a test of the whole damn franchise. Imma remind both me a you that this was ep 3 of 10 so we got a ways to go yet... but ooof, what have we wrought, BL? (I ended up doing a whole post about the stepbrother trope because of this sub plot.) Taiwan is killing me.
-- RANT ended --
Word of Honor (China) Ep 19-21 - over half way point so we got ALL the back story (in a classic 4 act story structure midway reveal). Now we know who WKX really is and his lineage. We also got some cute hugs and hand holds. Moving along at a nice clip despite being 36 eps total. Still gayest thing to come out of we-not-gay China since Advance Bravely.Â
Most Peaceful Place (Vietnam) Ep 2 - takes them a while to get eng subs together and ep 2 didnât drop until late. So Iâm putting this in a Thurs time slot going forward. Miscommunication already cleared up and a 2nd couple has been introduced. The pacing on these Vietnamese BLs is always a bit... off. But itâs still better than most of its ilk, enjoyable. Iâm thinking itâs a 6 ep arc.Â
We Best Love 2 (Taiwan) Ep 5 - after the initial drama DRAMA of ep 2, the current external crisis at work is much quieter, giving this whole season a top heavy feel. Taken along side the first season, I think itâs fitting nicely into a 4 act structure, but that might be my bias. I hope Iâm not wrong, weâll find out next week. Shi De puttering about being domestic with Shu Yi on his back was the best execution of the piggyback trope EVER. Meanwhile, our little D/s side couple of codependency, salvation trope + mental illness is becoming weirdly appealing. I donât know. H4 done mess with my head.Â
Stand AlonesÂ
Absolute BL AKA Zettai BL ni Naru Sekai vs Zettai BL ni Naritakunai Otoko (Japan) Ep 1-4 mini series. Found subs under A Man Who Defies The World of BL. ITâS HILARIOUS. Itâs Japan making fun of us, but also itself for having started this whole BL nonsense - from yaoi roots to present day. Itâs parody goddamn gold. Utterly cheeky unto the very last line. We are not worthy.Â
Apparently the most powerful tropes of all time are: baby is a floppy drunk and the piggyback fo nobility. Oh and chocolate. {Full review here.}Â
Honestly, this show may have been made with only @heretherebedork and I in mind. I donât know if youâd even understand half of it if you donât have a history with the manga source genre and an obsessive interest in underlying narrative devices. I havenât seen much chatter in the blogâoâsphere on this one because, in the end, itâs not a romance at all, itâs social commentary.Â
The ending line was a masterclass in lampooning a genre. Iâm going to rewatch the whole thing just to catch all the digs I missed first time around. It is a thing of beauty and a joy forever.Â
Thank you Japan. I forgive you all your hair-styling sins of the last decade.Â
Breaking NewsÂ
Spring Line Up:
Scholar Ryuâs Wedding Ceremony AKA Nobleman Ryuâs Wedding (Korean historical BL) April 15thÂ
Close Friend the series (Thai trailer) April 22.Â
2gether the movie (Thai trailer) April 22 to Thai theaters.
Nitiman (Thai) May 7 on One31.
I Told Sunset About You 2 (Thai)Â May 27 on LineTV
Ossanâs Love (Hong Kong) June to ViuÂ
GossipÂ
Bad Buddies released its first promo op via Arm Share, which means GMMTV is at least *thinking* about filming it.Â
Fun behind the scenes gossip sesh with eng subs for Tell the World I Love You (that Perth Bas movie we are maybe getting someday but will likely be sad).Â
New Thai BL Bite Me (adapted from novel Grab a Bite) dropped a teaser. It stars Mark Siwat (Kla in LBC) as uke character Ake, a delivery boy with special foodie powers, and chef Eua (seme played by Zung Kidakorn) who discovers him. Itâs from the same author as Manner of Death so we might even get some actual plot. Since itâs an established BL actor who I happen LOVE, a known author, and a plot about FOOD, I could not me more excited for this one.Â
Next Week Looks Like This:
Some shows may be listed a day later than actual air date for accessibility reasons. Some are dropping multiples at a time but just started so Iâm not sure on numbering.Â
Upcoming 2021 BL master post here.
Links to watch are provided when possible, ask in a comment if I missed something.

Rating Penthouse: War In Life characters
I asked my followers on Instagram to give me Penthouse characters to rate and my thoughts about them so I thought to post it here as well. Now this is my personal opinion about how I feel about the characters and how much I will rate them
â ïžâ ïžTHIS CONTAINS A FEW SPOILERSâ ïžâ ïž
My Instagram: Tempobaek
Logan Lee
10/10
Lemme just say I love him SO MUCH
LOGAN LEE BEST BOY
I absolutely loved his character and the fact that he was one of the few people who wants justice and is honest made me love him even more
Him playing Go Hu Dong was amazing as well and I didn't recognize him at all at first like he played it so well with the accent, costume and wig and everything
His accent and language switch in between English and the Busan accent Korean was so fucking sexyđ„”
âšMr. Jooâš
My man was also smart with his revenge
He was also serving amazing LOOKS every episode in the two seasons and I loved every single one of them
And I'm going to be honest here, after watching the preview for S2 ep13 his laugh was creepy in one of the clips and after reading a few theories I lowkey thought that he would be the next villian
I regret suspecting him now
But instead of that they gave us a bigger plot twist and blew up our man with a bombđ©
He literally went âšLiGhT iT Up LiKe DyNaMiTeâš (I'm so sorry)
I would've rather have him be a villian than die in the bomb
I MISS HIM ALREADY AND LOVE HIM SO MUCHđ
DID I MENTION THAT I LOVE HIM
Joo Seok Kyung
7/10
Another one that annoyed me angered me so muchđ
Like she was ruthless and had no mercy when it came to bullying and putting people down that she thought were a rival or putting people down in general
She didn't change even when Rona died
She also went as far as to like cheat her way to win the Cheong Ah Art High School trophy and blackmailed Cheon Seojin to win the trophy
But there were times where she would show emotions and those would be often her break down and weak moments
And those moments would really show how she is broken inside and puts up a careless and brave image, she is someone who needs healing even though healing takes time
I also saw someone saying like 'oh Seok Kyung hates her mom so much'
Yeah she hated her mom but she didn't hate her to death like she didn't wish death upon her
Seok Kyung was heart broken when she heard Suryeon's death and that showed that she still loved her mom even though Suryeon didn't give birth to them
I was heart broken when I saw that she cut her hair because here was no one there to tie it for her bc Suryeon loved Seok Kyungs long hair and that's why she didn't cut it but after he mothers death no one was there to tie her hair for her
I started seeing her in a different light after a while bc again it showed that he character was very broken emotionally and needed healing
I'm interested about seeing more of her character development after the last ep where she defended Rona
Also my girl is so hot, another one that was serving amazing looks
Joo Seok Hoon
8/10
He was lowkey annoying at first ngl
Like my man was justđ§đ»ââïž
It annoyed me so much how he defended his sister so much, fell for her tricks, covered up for her and did anything she said EVEN though its wrong
But after some time I understood that he cared for and that she was the only family left to him
I mean Seok Hoon hate Joo Dan Tae so he doesn't counts and Suryeon was dead at the moment
I will still not forgive him for bullying Seol A even though he regrets it
It also annoyed me how he didn't stood up for Rona at all in the first season even though he liked her
By he got so much better in S2, he was even part in the revenge plan
He is literally the human CCTV camera in Hera Palace like he knows more than even the viewers know
The way he was protective of Rona when he found out she was alive was so aDORABLE
And my man was amazing in the last episodes
I love him
Cheon Seo Jin
4/10
THIS WOMAN MAKES MY BLOOD FUCKING BOIL
Like I sometimes just was to đ€đ»đ©đ»
But sometimes I wanna hug herđ©
Idk I feel like she became a horrible person bc of greed and that he father and mother placed too high expectations for her
Instead of praising her for her accomplishments her parents wanted her to do more
Maybe that's why she was desperate for love and affection and found that in Joo Dan Tae even though he pretended to like her
But that definitely does not dismiss her horrible actions
But also the harsh past made her the could hearted person, like she left her father to die
She felt more care towards her daughter after she almost lost her because Eunbyeol tried to commit suicide
She was in alot of pain and you could see it in her cries and when she was on the phone with the person
Soyeon's acting was amazing in that scene
She started to care more about her ex husband and daughter when she saw how much Eunbyeol was suffering and she realized that she genuinely liked Ha Yoon Chul hwen she saw how horrible Joo Dan Tae was
I did feel bad for her sometimes but after seeing that she didn't change I really didn't feel any sympathy for her
She needs therapy
Girlie was shocked when the doctor said she is losing her voice like bestie you are screaming every episode
She was also serving amazing looks every episode
Ha Yoon Chul
5/10
The first male character I simped for
Like I am not going to deny it but he is hotđ„”
But the first few episodes he was an absolute asshole and greedy
But I never expected him to be Yoonhee's ex boyfriend
I did like him a tiny bit when he saved Yoon Hee from Kyu Jin
His entrance in S2 with the helicopter was damn hot
And I WAS SO SHOCKED WHEN HE SAID MEET MY WIFE OH YOON HE
LIKE YAY MY SHIP IS SAILING
I spoke too soon
His character development and fighting skills were hot as well
He was ADORABLE with Rona and Yoonhee
I seriously thought that Rona was his daughter
BUT THAN AT THE CHEONG AH FESTIVLE OOF SIR I WANTED TO PUNCH HIM
I WAS SO MAD WHEN HE SABOTAGED RONA'S PERFORMANCE
I began hating him after thatđ
Like he went đđ with his character development
AND THEN HE CLEANED EUNBYEOL'S MEMORY FROM THAT NIGHT LIKE SIR SKSHSKSHKS SHE DID HAT TO YOUR DAUGHTER
I actually asked my dad what he thought about what Yoon Chul did and this was his reponse:
"If you look at it from a parents perspective they would want to do anything if they saw their child in pain like he did but I would've also scolded her and had a conversation with her about why she did it instead of wiping her memory from that night like he did. "
So that's that
I LOVED IT WHEN YOON HEE CAME WITH THAT BLOW AND TOLD HIM RONA WAS HER DAUGHTER
Jonghoon's acting was chef's kiss in that scene
I was going to rate him a 4 but I gave him that 5 when I saw how he was at court, he admitted to his wrong doings but also still had feelings for Yoon Hee
I wanna see his reaction in s3 to Rona now bc now that he got to know that is his daughter I wonder how he will be
Lee Kyu Jin
1/10
AN ASSHOLE
USELESS
WHY IS HE HERE
Like I have nothing to say about him rather than I hate him and that he useless just like his wife and son
HE IS LITERALLY NOTHING WITHOUT HIS MOM
I'm only giving him that one bc he was funny in the episodes
THATS THE ONLY REASON HE IS THERE JUST FOR COMEDY PURPOSES
Go Sang Ah
0.5/10
ANNOYING 2.0
USELESS 2.0
ALL SHE DOES IS SPEND HER HUSBAND AND MOTHER IN LAW'S MONEY
LIKE SHE AIN'T EVEN WORKS
UNLIKE KANG MARI
The only thing she does is gossip
And spills the teaâ
SHE IS LITERALLY NOTHING WITHPUT HER HUSBAND AND HIS FAMILY
Giving her a 0.5 bc she is kinda funny eh
Lee Minhyuk
0/10
ANNOYING 3.0
USELESS 3.0
ASSHOLE 2.0
Idk if it runs in the family but again he is useless
And a dumbass
He also nothing without his parents
Why is he there tho like you ain't even funny
All he can do is cause trouble
And bullied Jenny
His dumbass slipped and broke his own arm and blamed it on Rona smhđ€Šđ»ââïž
Sometimes I just wanna đ€đ»đŠđ»
Also my dude was trying to sound all intimidating by saying
"Oh Jenny's father is a scary man, yOuR dEaD BaE rOnA"
Like dude worry about yourself bitch you are dead first for bullying Jenny
But like I hate the character but LOVE THE ACTOR HE IS SO HOT OMFG
Joo Dan Tae
0/10
ANOTHER ONE THAT PISSES ME OFF SO MUCH AND MAKES MY BLOOD BOIL
SOMETIMES I DONT WANNA đ€đ» I WANNA đȘ
LIKE I HATE HIM WITH A FUCKING PASSION
I DONT CARE ABOUT HIS PAST OR ANYTHING HE IS A GREASY, GREEDY, PSYCHO, OBSESSIVE MANIPULATIVE, POSSESSIVE PSYCHO
Like I legit thought he was nice in he first ep and then I saw him kiss Seojin and-
Me: đ€šđ§đđ€ź MY EMOTIONS WENT LIKE THAT
LIKE HE IS SO FUCKING POSSESSIVE OVER SURYEON, AEGYO AND SEOJIN LIKE ITS DISGUSTING
I WAS GETTING YANDERE BEHAVIOUR FROM THAT OLD MAN
PURE TRASH
Bae Rona
9/10
I LOVE HER NOW
RONA BEST GIRL
She was also annoying at first and was very ungrateful
But over time she got better, still a tiny bit annoying sometimes but better
When she came back from the US I WAS LIKE GIRL NO YOU FINNA RUIN THE PLAN
I do feel bad for her bc she went through alot with bullying, her mom going to jail not only once but twice, her getting to know that Yoonchul who she started liking sabotaged her performance, and also literally almost dying
My girl has been through a lot
AND WHEN SHE RUNNED TOWARDS THE STAIRS OUTSIDE WHEN EUNBYEOL WAS CHASING HER I WAS LIKE GIRL RUN TO THE HALL YOU RUNNIN OUTSIDE
I am excited to see her reaction to getting to know that Yoon Chul is her dad
Part 2 is also posted!

did cas really tell dean to kneel before their new god? did that actually happen? i thought him beating the shit out of dean in that alley was the most unrestrainedly horny thing this show had ever done ACTUALLY you know what scratch that new question: top horny moments from the cw's supernatural (2005 - 2020)
getting this ask feels like my sins of the last week have been weighed against the Trials I Have Gone Through since the premier of supernatural on the wb in september of 2005 and Iâm not sure if it is a punishment or reward
some notes before we begin:
the ep with deanâs male siren was like, conceptually horny but not actually that horny because the dude was uglie. Iâm sorry to this man
all you sam girls out there. I respect you but I do not respect jared padalecki who is JUST tall and has zero sex appeal. but those eps where heâs like, drinking rubyâs blood and then eating her pussy are. you know. Iâll give you that
I am ONLY UP TO SEASON 10 so fair warning this is not comprehensive but the horniness does seem to drop off sharply after the mark of cain is no longer in play lol gotta love a good demon murder tattoo plot
this is easily the most insane thing Iâve ever done, including the destiel manifesto
S1 EP12: the scene where dean gets healed by the faith healer, on his knees with a hand in his hair and looking somewhere between religious ecstasy, brain death and an orgasm. starting this list off great
S1 EP22: azazel possessing john winchester. no I will not explain further if u know u know <3
S3 EP10: dean being taunted by a dream version of himself, this is where we first got the daddyâs blunt little instrument line. still burned in my hippocampus a good 13 years later thank yew
S4 EP1: dean crawling out of his own grave covered in grave dirt. hot. the HANDPRINT. HOT. also tangent but this reveal after the s3 finale was WILD back in 2008 I hollered in my dorm room after canvassing for obama. simpler times man
S4 EP 1: casâ intro scene. the barn. the shadow wings. the hair??? getting stabbed in the chest by the man you just pulled out of hell. getting aaaallll up in that personal space. his little eyebrow. âyou donât think you deserve to be saved.â OUTRAGEOUSLY FLAMING
S4 EP02: âI dragged you out of hell I can throw you back in.â <<< this angel tops. mark dean down as scared and horny etc
S4 EP16: this ENTIRE EPISODE but specifically the part where dean tortures alastair as some kind of foreplay and then alastair kicks his ass. carved you into a new animal. jesus.
S4 EP16: wait I forgot about the part where cas also gets his ass kicked and looks all....hm. dazed and covered in blood while heâs on his knees and about to die. yeah.
S5 EP4: I mean this entire ep is unfairly horny considering everyone is dying of a zombie plague and hasnât showered in like, 4 years but if I had to pick one hmmm. the dean/dean interrogation scene with the panty kink yeah I know itâs not original but hm. it happened. also misha collins just being able to convey that CAS IS A FLEXIBLE SLUT with a single roll of his shoulders. who SAYS this man canât act!!!!!
S5 EP18: the ALLEY SCENE. DEAN DOESNâT FIGHT BACK. CAS HOLDS HIM UP OFF THE GROUND AND THEN THROWS HIM ACROSS THE ALLEY. WHY DID EVERYONE THINK CAS COULDNâT TOP. you all had brainworms.
S5 EP18: when cas locks dean in the panic room to stop him from saying yes to michael and âwell cas not for nothing but the last person who looked at me like that I got laidâ I hate this show. wait I think the blow me cas line is in this episode too what the fuck were they on here
S6 EP5: the scene where dean gets turned into a vampire. between the old dude who I think calls dean a pretty boy (??) and soulless sam....watching??? no ******* but there were just some absolutely foul energies in that scene and I still do not understand WHAT they were thinking
S6 EP20: cas doing a double smite on two demons by slamming them to the ground and then shoving another demon back in its vessel and then smiting him in the same motion. TOP. ENERGY.
S6 EP22: season 6 is possibly casâ horniest season because heâs like, going through angel puberty after getting his first boner for dean, but the final cas eps are. whoof. cas eats a bunch of souls and proclaims himself to be a new god in order to handle said boner, and then the season ends with cas telling them to bow down and profess their love to him, their new lord, or he will destroy them. note: the way this is framed makes it look like cas is only staring at dean while he says this, even though sam and bobby are also there. the season ends with dramatic zooms on both cas and deanâs faces respectively. this made me actively regret ditching this show after s5 lol
S8 EP??: literally EVERY SINGLE PURGATORY FLASHBACK. cas dean and benny are all purgatory hot in the âpop 10 cranberry pills and risk the UTIâ kind of way but also. dean being the hot girl bottom between two tops who hate each other. I really. whew. I need to go take a shower.
S8 EP17: if I get canceled for including the crypt scene on this list I blame you bud. but dean on his knees begging a brainwashed cas to stop killing him WAS sexy. how many times has dean been on his knees in this list wait thereâs another one coming up next jsldjfsldkjf
S9 EP2: abaddon getting dean on his knees (YEAH) and pulling his hair and praising him for always coming when called HELLO???? the only thing that ruins this is dean says âI canât tell if weâre gonna fight or make outâ because this is the CW and they wonât let him say fuck
S9 EP6: ah. this entire episode is Emotionally Horny but the horny horny part is when theyâre in the car and dean is telling cas to unbutton his shirt and. watches. I know this was on my destiel manifesto but I need it here too
S9 EP9: cas, covered in blood, slitting another angelâs throat and eating his grace after getting tortured. that shot alone made me understand why this website was so goddamn horny for misha collins for nearly a damn decade
S9 EP11: MARK OF CAIN BABEY. cain watching dean beat up a bunch of demons as an audition for taking on the mark, while crowley also is a fucking voyeur to the whole thing. cain is also a hot silver fox with daddy energies. I said what I said
S9 EP 16: dean getting the first blade. heâs chained to a pillar and being menaced by a foppish dandy who wants to add him to his âcollectionâ (WOW). dean then kills him with the blade and whew. murder is sexy sometimes
S9 EP21: dean being pinned against a wall by abaddonâs power, then using the mark of cain to break her hold, calling the first blade to him psychically and then killing her. god the mark of cain is hot
S9 EP23: dean waking up with the demon eyes NUT
S10 EP2: demon dean beating up that dude with the boring backstory and kicking his ass. really was a go on baby I got your flower moment because I hated that dude and I love demon dean
S10 EP3: demon dean being chained up and taunting sam about how his brother is gone, then hunting sam through the bunker. demon dean in general was VERY fun for me, someone who loves trash
S10 EP9: dean going berserk and killing a bunch of pedophile rapists/child abusers. Iâm sorry I know this show is trying to preach morality at me about monsters and unnecessary murder and humanity or whatever but we blew past that like 8 SEASONS AGO. also the mark of cain is sexy
S10 EP14: the rest of this list is really gonna be mark of cain stuff isnât it look Iâm here to have fun. cain and deanâs fight. cain continuously tossing his mane of hair back and taunting dean with the picture of what heâs going to become, who heâs going to kill. dean begging cain to tell him that he can stop, and then ultimately killing him. rip daddy.
S11 EP4: again I have not watched this however. every shot of this episode is PRESTIGE TELEVISION because driving a muscle car is sexy. and especially the shot of dean all beat to hell and begging his car to start and giving her a little kiss from his fingers to her dash. ugh. masculinity.
S12 EP10: the bearded salt-and-pepper daddy look returns, only itâs an angel this time and heâs wearing a vest and shirtsleeves and he swordfights with a hot redheaded lady in a suit and an eyepatch. this show is good sometimes!!! and oh fuck lol I just realized this is the same guy who played krissyâs hot hunter dad in s7 probably the first guy whoâs hotter as an angel than a hunter. huh.
S12 EP 11: dean riding larry the mechanical bull to âbroomstick cowboy.â I have no idea where this factors into the ep but I have seen. the youtube clip
S13 EP23: from what I can tell s13 is way more emotionally horny than boner horny, although dean burning casâ body was sexy. but the horniest part was dean saying yes to michael and then michael taking over and saying âthanks for the suit.â we are going to ignore the silliest fight scene in existence as well as the final shot ending on a FREEZE FRAME like a goddamn tiktok
S14: not gonna pick a specific moment because I have not watched yet!!! but michael dean is hot. idk why michael is weirdly hot and I cannot stand any iteration of lucifer on this television programme. it should be the reverse but Iâm forever an older sibling stan apparently. someone who is catholic could probably explain this better.
S15 EP13: genevieve padalecki and danneel ackles fight flirting as ruby and anael I CANNOT BELIEVE THEY HELD OUT ON THIS TILL THE LAST SEASON
I know I am missing things but this is already an absolutely incomprehensible screed. I know Iâm missing shit from the latter seasons but give me time Iâm pacing myself

TGF Thoughts: 5x04- And the clerk had a firm...
You can tell Iâm enjoying this season when episodes air on Thursdays and Iâve written a recap by Friday night. More under the cut, as always.Â
I woke up very early on Thursday morning and couldnât get back to sleep, so I decided to just watch this episode on my phone (I write these on rewatch). Iâm sure the show was hoping that the upside-down clips of fake!Love Island would be disorienting, but wow, did this work on me. Between the lack of sleep and how plausible it wouldâve been for me to accidentally have my phone upside-down with rotation lock on... I truly thought it was an ad for Love Island and also had to pause the episode to check my phone settings. Good job, show!
It turns out, however, that Carmen is doing a headstand and watching reality TV on her laptop. Very happy to see Carmen at home. It would be easy for the show to have her just be a mysterious presence at the firm, so even seeing her do perfectly normal things is a good reminder that she is a whole person and not just Associate Who Will Defend Anyone. Â
(I wouldnât have expected Carmen to enjoy reality tv, but then again, I love Big Brother so...)
Carmen lives in a studio that doesnât look like it is brand new!!! Iâm ridiculously excited to see an apartment that actually looks like a place someone fresh out of law school might live. Iâd believe it if Carmen lived in a studio in a luxury building or a one-bed on the salary sheâs surely making at RL, but itâs very refreshing to see a character who isnât super-wealthy on this show that tends to be about, well, very wealthy people. Â
Carmen is smarter than every other character on this show and on most TV shows: instead of opening the door without taking any precautions, she puts the chain on first. Remember how people used to just show up at Aliciaâs door when she was the governorâs wife, and sheâd always just open the door and look surprised? Â
Charles Lester is at Carmenâs door even though itâs nearly midnight. She tries to get him to leave, but he insists on staying. She closes the door to undo the chain, and uses the privacy of the closed door to grab a makeshift weapon, just in case.
Carmen explains her apartment by saying, âstudent loans.â So she doesnât come from (excessive) money. (Or she was cut off by her family, but I feel like the early character description of Carmen said something about her family not having money.) Â
Lester has something very important to tell Carmen, but all his notes are on different scraps of paper and, even though he says his information is time sensitive, he takes his time looking for the right piece of paper.
He says Carmen canât say she heard the info from him, blah blah. Heâs there to share that in ten minutes, someone at the firm is going to be searched by the FBI. This info comes, of course, from Rivi. Â
Do we think Lester has to reference his notes to remember that the FBI is searching a name partner of Carmenâs firm? Or do we think heâs fucking with her? I think the latter.
Carmen was doing exercises to help with migraines, btw. Â
Carmen calls Diane to tip her off. Diane and Kurt are already asleep, but luckily, Diane has her phone on full volume and takes the call. Sheâs not happy about it and asks if it can wait until tomorrow. Asks is the wrong wordâshe instructs the caller to hang up if it can wait. Â
Even though Carmen canât say where she got the information, Diane knows it must be from Rivi. Seems obvious enough.
Kurt gets out of bed and starts locking up guns and getting to work; Diane calls Liz. Liz is in bed with a guy weâve never seen before and she does not really want to talk. Â
Liz notes that the info also couldâve come from Wolfe-Coleman, since Carmen is âtangled up with some rough characters.â Â
Iâm sorry, fake Netflix CEO man... WHY ARE YOU STILL TRYING TO KISS AND PLAY WITH LIZ WHEN SHE IS ON THE PHONE TALKING ABOUT PURGING FILES AND THE FBI???? Â
I donât even hold this against the character. This is one of those things the writers of this show LOVE doing to heighten tension. They think people behave like this in real life and that itâs funny to have a million competing priorities at once, so they insist on doing things like this. In reality, I would be concerned about any person who did not hear âFBIâ and go, âum, what the hell is happening? I should stop trying to fuck rn.â Â
Kurt starts burning papers. Is no one going to point out that maybe being on the phone (after you KNOW youâve had NSA issues) talking about tips from powerful criminals and asking questions that are pretty clearly about document destruction... is a bad strategy? Â
Dude, why are you STILL GOING after Liz clearly tells you to stop!? Do you want me to hate you?! Â
Liz adds Jay to the call. He is asleep and also his hallucination from the premiere is (sadly) back. I still donât get what theyâre going for with this, so Iâll just be happy that (1) there is only one hallucination this time and (2) itâs only on screen for a minute. Â
This dude is really chanting âLet me see âem!â at Liz while she is on a frantic work call! This is how we are introduced to him! This is not funny! If this werenât being played for laughs/to raise the stakes by having a lot going on I would be calling this man misogynistic!
Liz remembers that Diane has full boxes of files! They spill onto the floor as she tries to hide them! Drama! Â
And then the FBI arrives, so Diane asks Liz to take her 9 am with Wackner
The FBI enters, accompanied by... Nancy Crozier! Nancy is now an AUSA for some reason!
Nancy has graduated from âjust a girl from Michiganâ to using her pregnancy for dramatic effect. I guess sheâs aged into being Patti Nyholm, or something. (I would LOVE to see Patti Nyholm show up on TGF.) Â
I know the client files are top of mind for Diane, but isnât it kind of obvious that the FBI would be there about Kurt, given that the FBI was talking to Kurt days earlier? Â
9 mins in is early for credits!! (This first act flies, tooâdid not feel like 9 minutes.) Â
I say this once an episode, but isnât it so fun to see all the characters from season one of TGW pop up in season five of TGF? Â
Liz sees her new man, Del Cooper, in reception. Heâs a client. They try to be professional with each other. Liz remembers Dianeâs 9 am with Wackner and asks the receptionist to tell her when he arrives. She dismissively says itâs âSome judge guy.â Wackner is, of course, already there and watching the interaction with interest. He uses this as an opportunity to âlook for the restroom,â observe Liz meeting with someone else, and walk down to the associate floor.
He asks associate Leah (weâve definitely seen her several times before) where heâs supposed to go for the staff meeting. She asks if he means the partner meeting or the associate oneâhe wants whichever is more interesting. She says she only knows about the associate meeting, and so he tags along.
Leah and Lucy (the associate from last week; Michael Boatmanâs daughter) talk and assume that Wackner is from STR Laurie and thus in charge of the fate of their careers. Â
The associate meeting is fairly smallâLeah refers to it as their âdailyâ so I wonder if itâs more like a team meeting than a meeting of all the associates. Â
The COTW is about a comedian who isnât always PC. FakeNetflix is getting a lot of Twitter pushback. Â
âAh, so youâre worried about being cancelled,â Liz notes. âDonât say the âCâ word,â Del jokes. Then he asks the firm to do a sensitivity read of the comedianâs act.
Liz asks why them. David doesnât get why sheâs asking, though obviously Liz knows he wonât be offended by her question since they have a relationship outside of work. Del thinks that RL is the right firm for this task because they are a black firm, and also because this can be an audition for the rest of their legal business. Â
This seems like it is better for a PR firm or image consultant? Not a law firm? But sure. Â
Diane explains the whole January 6th situation to Liz. Liz immediately understands that if Kurt is in trouble, Diane is the one representing him. Because Kurt is Kurt, Iâm willing to accept the âspouses-representing-each-other" trope here. But let the record reflect that, as always on this show, it is a TERRIBLE idea to have your spouse represent you! Just pick someone outside of the firm! JUST PICK ELSBETH, KURT.
Diane asks how her 9 am went; David Lee interrupts to ask Liz why she is being so casual with Del. âDavid, I am on the phone,â Liz responds. I love that she doesnât really answer him. Â
Leah and Lucy try to turn the associate meeting into a showcase of how great they are; the other associates catch on quickly and all are happy to answer Wacknerâs questions. He wants to understand jury trials.
Nancyâs pregnancy act does not work on Judge Farley, yet she keeps it up anyway. Court doesnât go well for Diane, but it also doesnât go well for Nancy.
Some of these interactions remind me a little too much of Peterâs trial at the end of TGW, like this one where Nancy goes to Diane with information about Kurt.
Leah gets off the elevator as Diane and Nancy talk, and to Dianeâs surprise, Wackner is shadowing Leah! She takes a moment to look surprised before we return to the scene with Nancy.
I like all the little interactions within this Wackner plot. Diane asking Liz to meet with Wackner both connects Wackner to Liz AND shows that Diane would turn to Liz for back-up, and having Wackner/Leah run into Diane in court is a good reminder that even though Diane is dealing with a pressing issue, Wackner hasnât just disappeared. Â
Diane encourages Kurt to talk. She wants to know if heâs not telling her something because sheâs his wife or because sheâs his lawyer. This is maybe why you donât hire your wife as your lawyer. Â
Kurt says itâs because of politicsâDiane doesnât like that, since this is one issue where their politics should be shared. Â
âDiane, this works between us because we donât let our political judgements overwhelm our respect for each other,â Kurt explains. But... is that relevant to this particular issue? Â
Diane asks the same question, essentially, noting that January 6th changed âeverythingâ for her and she canât treat this like a âchess gameâ anymore. Kurt wants to know what sheâs calling a chess game. She says their marriage is the one thing thatâs not a game. Â
On one level I understand exactly what Diane is saying and on another level I have no clue what this dialogue actually means. She canât treat things like a game anymore, but also their marriage is the only thing that isnât a game? So does that mean she can treat everything else like a game, then? I think what sheâs trying to say is that the time for seeing political disagreements as a calm and rational game of strategy is over, and that she values her marriage and wonât play around with it. Â
Kurt tells her what he burnedâa list of people in his little group. He says heâd protect them just like heâd protect Dianeâs book group friends. Oh, wow, I was not EVER expecting to hear about that arc again! This is a pretty perfect time to mention it, though, since Kurt DID protect book group for the exact same reason heâs protecting the members of his club. Â
Other than âwinning over a new client is important,â I have no idea why Liz and David Lee would gather together a group of partners to do the sensitivity read. I donât know who IS the appropriate person to do the sensitivity read, given that this is a law firm, but I know this is a bad call.
Oh, they are going to go through line by line dissecting each joke in a group. They get through one joke before Madeline notes that the comedian is âobjectifying black men.â A black male partner says he doesnât mind. Madeline says that doesnât matter because the joke is racially insensitive. Â
Overlapping chatter ensues, and the partners try to make changes to the comedianâs jokes, like substituting Norwegian for Nigerian. This... is not what law firms do. The joke isnât funny with the substitution, but it also wasnât funny before. It was low hanging fruit and the correct answer is to just cut it entirely. (Also, if youâre a comedian and all your jokes are about common stereotypes of groups to which you do not belong, you are probably not a very funny comedian!)
Diane has Jay do some more investigating. Jay looks up when Diane says, âringleader of the insurrectionists,â and Diane is just like, âI know.â Then Carmen walks in.
Diane congratulates Carmen on âhitting the ground runningâ and then asks again how she knew about the warrant. Diane says sheâs covered by the same attorney-client privilege, so Carmen should be able to share. Carmen notes the warrant was actually about Kurt, which does not answer Dianeâs question. âSo this came from Rivi?â Diane asks. Carmen says she canât confirm.
âCarmen. You have been here three weeks. You have two clients: Wolfe-Coleman and Oscar Rivi. Itâs one or the other!â Diane notes. Yep. I love that they didnât forget that this isnât much of a mystery. Itâs more about principle than anything. If Diane knows itâs one of two sources and needs more information, Iâm sure Jay can figure it out. Â
Carmen knows sheâs stuck, so she asks if she can make a phone call. âI think that would be smart,â Diane says. Â
Iâve noticed that Liz and Diane are both being quite firm with others this seasonâand I like it. They're spending more time with lower-level characters, and both Diane and Liz have reasons to be more curt this year. Diane is under a lot of stress and itâs showing in all of her interactions; Liz is making a point of seeming in control to establish herself as the leader of the firm. Â
Then Marissa walks in. âWhat is going on with your crazy court judge?â Diane asks. âMy?â Marissa asks. âMarissa, I am in no mood for defensiveness,â Diane insists. She mentions Wackner missing his meeting and shadowing Leah. Thatâs news to Marissa. Â
Marissa heads to Wacknerâs court to figure out whatâs going on.
Wackner is now experimenting with juries. This is interesting to meâI'd wondered before how smart it was to just have Wackner make all the rulings, so exploring the idea of having a jury shows heâs thinking about that, too. Also, itâs another sign that Wackner wants his court to have many of the same structures as a real courtroom. There are still judges, juries, witnesses, trialsâhe's starting something new, but it feels more like heâs testing out improvements for an imperfect system. I wonder if his end goal would be to set up separate courts, or if heâs more interested in shaping laws/reforming the system? Surely Wackner has ambitions of scaling up whatever conclusions he comes to. So what are they? Â
The reason for the juries is that the associates told him that juries are racially biased, so heâs trying to correct it. He also explains how he ended up shadowing Leah, and advises Marissa to go exploring whenever sheâs kept waiting. (I have a feeling Marissa doesnât need to be told this, but then, thatâs why sheâs Wacknerâs âmuse.â) Â
Marissa notes that Wacknerâs court is looking nicerâthere must be money coming in from somewhere new. Wackner confirms thereâs been a sympathetic donor.
Wackner is dealing with a case about NFT fraud. Marissa says she doesnât know what that is. Iâm going to assume that Marissa is using Wacknerâs strategies against him (she had just accused him of playing dumb to get others to talk) because I cannot believe that Marissa, who always knows random facts, ESPECIALLY ones that involve weird corners of the internet, would not know what an NFT is. Â
Marissa hears the case is about $4 million, and sheâs shocked because this raises the stakes a little more than even she is comfortable with. Wackner has a signed and notarized document saying that both sides will honor the verdict. It is, as Marissa points out, notarized in 9 Ÿ court by Wackner about a fictional case. âAbout a fictional crime,â Wackner adds on. Â
Iâm a little surprised this is all these writers had to say about NFTs! Maybe they knew that by the time this aired, the actual topic would feel dated. Â
Mandy Patinkin is just SO GOOD as Wackner! Iâm watching a fictional show about a fictional crime in a fictional court and even I am starting to believe in his ludicrous court! Â
Wacknerâs jury selection process involves catching potential jurors in traps, like pretending to know the national anthem when they donât. Smart. Probably super problematic if you think about it too hard and put it in the wrong peopleâs hands and people start to know the system. But smart, for now. Â
Diane is now in the sensitivity read meeting, for reasons passing understanding. They are still talking about the first joke. Jay calls Liz out of the meeting and notes that everyone in the room is old and no one is funny. âIâm funny!â Liz argues. Diane tries to leave the meeting, and Liz tells Diane Jayâs idea about needing younger people. âOh god yes,â Diane agrees. Iâm glad she sees it and a little alarmed that Liz doesnât! I feel like they shouldâve sent the tape to everyone interested in participating, then asked them to write up (separately) anything they found questionable or offensive, and gone from there, ending with a close review of anything that wasnât previously flagged. If you debate every single line for hours youâre going to get nowhere.
I donât know why Liz is so concerned that Jay thinks sheâs not funny? But she is.
Diane asks Liz to join her meeting with Carmen and Lester. This is a scene Iâve been waiting for! Diane and Liz are both there and so the scene FEELS important. The plot advances. And, most importantly, they address why Carmen is staying at RL!
Lester reiterates that Carmen is super important to Rivi, so if Carmen says she canât share info, then she canât share info. Liz and Diane do not accept this. âI am a name partner. Carmen is a first-year associate,â Liz says. âNow, Carmen is free to resign and hang her shingle wherever sheâd like. She can even go and work for you. That is up to her. But while she is here, she is subject to the rules and the mentoring of this firm.â
Lester tries to take Carmen out of the meeting. Liz and Diane wonât let him: They need to know if Carmen is staying with the firm, now. Â
âYou have a lot to learn, Carmen. And you can only do that here,â Diane pitches. I donât think thatâs exactly true, but itâs not untrue.
Here is a question I have about Carmen: she is WILLING to represent drug dealers and rapists. Does she WANT to? She chooses RL, so Iâm guessing her interests lie in big law and not in aiding criminals. Â
Lester leaves, but not before saying Kurt is about to get a grand jury summons. Diane gets one too. Itâs not the usual guy! Too bad.
A bigger group is now deciding on if jokes are offensive or not, and theyâre doing so with paddles that are red on one side (offensive) and green on the other (funny). Iâm sure this is going to go well.
The group sees the replacement jokes and they are confused. Marissa wants to see the original joke. Julius shows the room, and everyone laughs. The joke is funnyâand offensive. Someone from the mail room notes that he would be the butt of this joke, but he finds it funny, so he thinks the comedian should be able to continue with her set. Â
Here is where I think I fall on this: Get sensitivity reads to get ahead of any huge issues (like, donât be Pepsi with the ad with whichever Jenner it was who solved racism). Be aware of the potential issues. Let viewers decide what is and isnât offensive, and make informed decisions rather than arbitrary rules about what content to show. Youâll KNOW if you are indulging the tendencies of someone with a history of making the same type of problematic jokes (for example, maybe if you are reviewing something by Tina Fey and she tries to write another edgy plot where racial stereotypes are the punchline, you advise her to not do that because, I mean, why WERE there so many episodes of 30 Rock that involved blackface??). Youâll KNOW if you are giving a platform to someone who is actively trying to spread misinformation and be cruel to others. Someoneâs going to be offended by everything, and it may be a huge deal and it may not be. IMO, it doesnât really matter that I canât make an exact set of rules about what is/isnât smart to air. I donât think anyoneânot networks, not creators, and not audiencesâwould benefit from that. Lawyers might, though, for all the billable hours...
âYou canât tell a joke without offending someone,â Jay notes. I do not think this is true! Puns donât offend anyone! Â
David Leeâs counter-example to Jayâs point is Gilbert & Sullivan. Of course it is.
As always, the argument devolves into overlapping chatter. These episodes exhaust me. At least this episode has some fun with the topic of the week and seems to have more of a point of view than some of the past episodes where the only conclusion is, âWow! Controversy is controversial!â
Marissa ends up in the mail room with Jay and one of the mailroom guys (captions say his name is Jimmy). They are mocking the partnerâs ideas of comedy. Jay and Jimmy agree that the best comedy is mean. But, Jay says, now it feels like you need âa permission slip to tell a joke.â Is... this true? This feels like one of those things people who would never actually get âcancelledâ worry about because their fear overtakes their ability to understand what really gets someone cancelled. Â
Then again, this episode was written by professional writers who would absolutely know better than I am if people are really hesitant to tell jokes. Â
Jimmy has started making literal permission slips to allow people to tell jokes about specific groups. Jay and Marissa are down. Â
Jay asks Jimmy to make a card for something so inappropriate he wouldnât joke about it... and Jimmy prints a card that says Greta Thunberg. No one wants to joke about that.
And you know why this joke lands well for me? Part of it is that the vibe of this scene is very fun and laid back. But mostly itâs because Younger tried to make a Greta Thunberg joke this season, and it was quite possibly the worst, most embarrassing thing Iâve seen a TV show do in ages. It wasnât funny, just mean, over the top, lazy, and never-ending. (Poor Younger. That show had an awful final season.) Â
Liz is still worried sheâs not funny. She asks Del if sheâs funny and mentions Jayâs comment. He says sheâs funny, but sheâs not convinced heâs being honest. He points out this is a discussion no one will win. Del ends up accidentally saying âI love youâ to Liz, which is a big deal for a relationship weâve seen for all of two seconds. Liz says they donât have to talk about it, but Del insists on explaining that he meant âaffection,â not love. Iâm glad theyâre talking about this.
âThen maybe we should get married,â Liz says as seriously as possible. She stares at Del and smiles. He laughs and admits that was funny. It was VERY funny! Â
Grand jury time! Yet Another Ham Sandwich: The Sequel: The Musical: The Series. (Am I funny? Pls tell me Iâm funny and hip with the teens!) Â
Itâs Dianeâs turn first. She does well, but thereâs not much to say when Nancy plays the recording of Diane phoning the FBI with the rioterâs name. I did not need the clip from last episode in here. Diane is calm in court, but rushes to tell Kurt immediately. Nancy predicted Diane would do that, so she calls in Kurt before Diane has a chance to warn him.
So, wait, Kurt thought all of this was just a COINCIDENCE? Diane didnât tell him earlier?! I donât love this choice, but okay. Â
Liz finds a joke permission slip on her desk. Julius has one too. âDid you use it?â Liz asks. Julius doesnât understand what that even means. Then they trade clothes, because Liz does want to tell a joke about white girl clothes.
Julius suspects the cards are a way to make fun of the partners for being unfunny. The associates are also chatting about the cards, having lots of fun, so itâs clearly not about the partners.
I think now is an appropriate time to mention that TGW and TGF have both been consistently hilarious shows and have been on the air for a combined twelve years. Neither rely on the types of jokes that these cards permit. This is a kind of interesting thought experiment, but... doesnât it say something that the shows never use these jokes as crutches and still manage to be funny? This is what I meant earlier about people being afraid of cancel culture when theyâre not actually really at risk of coming under fire. These writers know how to write things that are funny. They know how to make comedy out of absurdity and subverting expectations. And yet theyâre worried about how to have jokes that arenât mean? Really?
The first laugh out loud funny TGW moment that comes to mind right now is the episode that ends with that obnoxious talk show guy trying to out Diane as a lesbian. That joke deals with identity. But it still holds up 12 years later, because the joke isnât that Diane could be gay... the joke is that Diane DOES NOT GIVE A SHIT what this pest is saying about her on TV, and so she laughs. And because the tension of the talk show guyâs BIG DRAMATIC REVEAL is cut with Dianeâs dynamic, loud laugh, we laugh with her! Iâm not really sure what I'm trying to illustrate with this example. Iâm just noting that you can be topical, funny, and entirely appropriate at the same time... and these writers are great at finding that balance.
HR starts, like, texting (they TEXT Marissa!!!) employees about the joke permission slips? Itâs so bizarrely done that I thought this was going to be a prank. Â
Jay decides they wonât go to HR, and Jimmy decides theyâll delay. Why wouldnât HR just come down and take away the cards?
For this weekâs dose of Wackner Wackiness, witnesses will be fully costumed, and it goes without saying that the costumes will be as over the top as possible.
David Cord is the mysterious donor. Marissa spots him and instantly puts the pieces together. Cord explains he met Wackner on the elevator. I canât say enough how much I like that this season has a lot of moving pieces that feel like part of a whole. Cord showed up as part of a case that caused internal debate at the firm and had a thematic parallel to an ongoing plot, then crossed over into Wacknerâs plot once he was established as a character! Â
Cord says heâs interested in âdisrupting thingsâ so heâs interested in Wackner. I did not need the still photo of where they founded HP thatâs used to illustrate humble beginnings, I guess.
Nancy mentions Kurtâs unfortunate last nameâshe so would. Kurt takes the fifth. Was this thing about needing a reason to take the fifth true in the earlier seasons and just not mentioned? Didnât Kalinda and Will use this strategy?
Nancy, obviously, plays the recording of Diane reporting the rioter. Kurt conceals his reaction for the grand jury, but heâs pissed. Â
Diane tries to apologize and Kurt asks for another lawyer. This is the right move. I canât be all that sad.
The partners have collected all the cards and are trying to do damage control with HR. (Interestingly, there are certain topics the cards we see donât touch on. Like, whereâs the rape joke card? Arenât rape jokes what we usually talk about when we talk about comedians getting cancelled? And where are the jokes about minority groups (aside from little people, referred to using the PC name instead of the names that would probably be used in most offensive jokes about little people) not represented in the TGF cast? I find this little bit of self-censorship quite notable, especially given that the writers seem to be arguing in favor of not regulating humor. These omissions, which MUST be intentional, tell me the writers do have their own lines they wonât cross...) Â
(My larger point there, and where this funny-but-unnecessary subplot fails for me, is that this whole episode feels like a bit of a panic over cancel culture and winds up being a strawman argument. I donât disagree with the conclusions the writers come to and I do find some of these scenes funny. But at the same time, I donât think Cancel Culture is actually about coming after every single joke that makes fun of any person or group (if we must do a cancel culture plot, why not do one about someone who is an odious person and yet still has a following even after theyâve been âcancelledâ). And I donât think that showing HR as a very stern, strict, humorless body is helpful. Iâm getting ahead of myself, but all that accomplishes is having Liz win on a point that pretty much everyone can agree on, because no one is actually as humorless as STRLâs HR department! Humor has so many gray areas and if you try to make it black and white, obviously the side thatâs saying YOU CANNOT MAKE JOKES ABOUT ANYTHING is going to be the one that is wrong. Â
I did just remember that all of these writers have probably dealt with unfun and strict standards & practices departments, and I like the way HR is portrayed more if I try to imagine them as Standards & Practices.
Liz decides she is going to see HR so sheâs seen as an authority figure, not someone subversive. But first, Liz has to meet with Del and the comedian.
Wackner and Cord are in Dianeâs office. Dianeâs skeptical of their alliance. She also points out that it is corrupt for Wackner to be financed by Cord and decide on Cordâs cases. This is true. Cord says he has no vested interest in any of the cases. And Wackner says heâs the âmost untouchable man on earthâ and quotes a song again. Yet another example of how this court only works if Wackner is in charge.
The comedy meeting does not go well. David Lee is already trying to pitch their other servicces. The comedian finds the censored version hilarious in how terrible it is, and then she starts making fun of it, loudly, and for way too long. Â
David thinks it went poorly; Liz isnât concerned. David is all, âyou failedâ and Liz asks him to cool it and notes that David isnât the highest-ranking person at STRL, so he should âstop the shitâ and work with her. Sheâs already sounding more like a boss. Â
Julius complements her on being âBoseman-like,â which is true (though I wish she didnât need to be compared to her ex-husband). âI know,â Liz says quietly, likely because she hates that Adrian is still influencing her this much. Â
Del joins Wackner and Cord in the elevator, and this isnât the end of the episode but Iâm going to pretend it is so all the episodes can end on elevators this year. Itâs close enough.
Kurtâs new lawyer is Julius. Ah, yes, choose the corrupt judge Trump pardoned who works at your wifeâs firm to represent you. Seems smart. Â
Liz walks past Dianeâs office and the camera follows her up to HR. She tries to get HR to understand humor. They do not. And thatâs the episode.
So, a few thoughts to conclude. First, I went into this recap thinking Iâd have a lot more to say about cancel culture and the way this episode handled the debate. But I ended up liking this plotâand this episode-- more the second time around. I still donât think this episode said anything groundbreaking about cancel culture, because I donât think it actually engaged with the topic beyond the surface. As I noted earlier, coming to the conclusion that jokes should be allowed because weâre all human isnât really a resolution the real topic. What about accountability? What about allowing for some jokes to be too far without taking the teeth out of every joke? What about the way people panic over cancel culture when theyâre not being canceled (this episode felt a little bit like a panic over cancel culture, which is why I reacted negatively to it the first time through) or about how cancellation doesnât always stick or have meaning? There is SOMETHING to explore here, but I donât think this episode found that something. Â
Second, because I didnât find a way to work it in above... is it me, or is it actually HELPING the show to not have Adrian or Lucca around!? This season feels so much more focused than the past several, and I think it might be because the writers (who are, as always, very good at adapting to curveballs) had to restructure the show. Lucca always had her own subplots that were separate from everything else, and Adrianâs charisma tended to overpower othersâ presence (especially Lizâs) whenever he was in the room. It didnât help that the writers seemed to LOVE writing Adrian plots, even if it meant neglecting others. Â
Donât get me wrongâI love Adrian and Lucca both. But thereâs something to be said for a tighter show with three main interconnected pieces (Liz/firm drama, Diane/FBI and Kurt, Marissa/Wacknerâs court) that carry over from episode to episode. Like the titles of the season, these episodes build on each other. Â
Also, thereâs the right amount of every character this season. David Lee is used sparingly; Jay and Julius are supporting players who sometimes get the spotlight; Wackner is a huge presence but his plot feels like part of the show; Carmen feels important but isnât being given screentime for the sake of screentime; Liz is finally the type of lead she shouldâve been from the start; Marissa has nicely grown into a role closer to leading than supporting; Diane remains a clear lead. Â
5x05 next week!!! I am expecting some Hitting the Fan level quality and at least one fan-service-y reference. (Not really, but wouldnât it be fun?) Â

Hanna, episode 8
1. I know Iâve said it before, but these scenes with Hanna and Mia are so super gay. Part of me still really really wishes that theyâd gone there - I like the Jonas/Hanna reunion in s4 well enough (if we ignore the absolute travesty of stealing time from Amira), but Iâd have really loved if Mia and Hanna had been the thing instead of adding in a random extra character for no reason. Imagine the potential.... Also, Alex is still the worst. Like I know heâs the worst because William was the worst. But heâs still the worst. Gross. His sleazy manner is so offputting. I hate that Mia ends up falling for this. I do hope that unlike the original, Mia doesnât lose all of who she is herself in her season.
2. Ugh, I forgot how irritating Kiki is. I really really like her by the later seasons (particularly in s5) but man in these early times she was not so great. I know Kiki thinks theyâre all being punished because Leonie hates Hanna, but as I said before Amira and Mia werenât even with Hanna at that point, so thatâs not likely. Kikiâs need for control and to be liked is really coming out in some unpleasant ways. This whole âwhat Hanna does reflects on our crewâ is so... bleh. With every word Kiki gets more and more toxic, and then starting in on Amira as well, and wondering why sheâs the bad guy? Sheâs a young kid and she has this desperation to fit in and be cool and liked etc and I get that sheâs not a dreadful person at the end of the day. But she really needs to grow up. Particularly given that she literally pursued Alex when heâs not exactly a saint about all this sort of stuff. One thing I do love about this bit with Amira (and she repeats it when she speaks to Matteo in s3, which is a nice bit of character continuity), is how she leans forward and speaks very forcefully to Kiki as she explains her point of view. The camera is tight up in her face, or rather she moves into it, and it doesnât let Kiki or the audience move away. And the call to prayer is a lovely touch right after, reminding of the âMuslim gangster worldâ and what thatâs really like. Kiki needs to step out of her own sphere and realise that other people have their own thoughts and feelings and things arenât always what she thinks they are. Poor Hanna is suffering a lot, and instead of supporting her, Kiki chooses to pile on, focusing on her own âpainâ at the situation. Which, in context, is really really petty. And then she acts like sheâs the hurt party? Grow up, child.
3. This little scene with Jonas is so painful. The acting here is really nice. Jonasâs sadness and hurt is so palpable, as is Hannaâs anxiety and tension. Itâs all so awkward and painful, and the way itâs shot with Jonas always at a distance and never really looking at Hanna just makes that all the more intense. And I mean, I know Jonas is hurting and I know itâs hard for him, but this whole bit about how Hanna has no personality of her own is so mean. In some ways heâs right (and correct me if Iâm wrong, but in the original it was Eva herself who says this bit to her Jonas - I donât recall every detail of Evaâs season as well as Iâd like so this may be wrong, but what I remember is something similar to this line as part of why she choose to end it at the end, and if so I donât really know that I like this change; itâs better from the character herself as a realisation). But even if heâs right, itâs a bit unfair. He told her to go and be someone outside of him, and now heâs like âI donât know you at allâ and itâs really frustrating because I still donât feel like âmake outâ is an accurate description of what happened, and Sam is really the one who was pushing and pushing, and yet all the blame is being set on Hanna. He says itâs not because of that, but of course it is.
4. I always cringe at these scenes where the Eva character gets âslut shamedâ and basically panics. Itâs so hard to watch them go through it, and in so many ways this is the hardest episode for them. Hanna is at a nadir. Yes, Mia, Sam and Amira defended her, but with the tension with Kiki that support is falling apart, and then Jonas told her to call him when she gets a personality (harsh!!), and now she has someone in the school sending her messages in period blood. Itâs all pretty shitty. And Kiki almost word for word repeating Jonasâs accusation about knowing âwhat kind of girlâ she is. Itâs totally understandable that she wants to get away from all of this stuff.
5. Then this shot of her at the bottom of the stairs. Distanced and lonely, and itâs even worse than it was at the start of the show. Then, at least she was outside and had space around her, and the colours were much happier. Here sheâs closed, in, boxed out by stairs and the walls etc and itâs this dark, gloomy colour set. Thereâs a bar of light, but sheâs not even in it, sheâs to the side of it, like she canât even let herself have that. Then we cut to literally seeing her through the bars of the stairs, like sheâs imprisoned, which is effectively what everyone in the school is doing to her. I do like the change that Matteo is here in person for this âyou shouldnât change schoolsâ talk. Thereâs something about the interaction that changes when they have to do it face to face. And yes Hanna, my love. You start getting angry that people keep trying to tell you who you are. Matteoâs lines here really do feel more like an overt attempt at reverse psychology than Isakâs did. Again, I assume this is because we still didnât know about Isak at all. Whereas Matteo still feels more cynical and calculated. His attitudes and the way heâs approached Hanna have felt different. Itâs really interesting to consider where his head is at in this season given just how low and disconnected we see him at the start of his own. I guess when heâs called out for it over the next little bit it does change things a bit. Plus of course the way his own life is about to be hit.
6. The Hanna and Leonie talk is really interesting. Up til now, Leonie has seemed much more dominant and Hanna much more timid. And thatâs been partly the way itâs filmed - theyâre sitting or Leonie is placed above Hanna. But here, Hanna looms over Leonie, quite literally, and itâs good to see her start to stand up for herself. Leonieâs mannerisms are the same but they arenât having the same effect. And thatâs partly because Hanna is at her lowest ebb. While she seemed lost and lonely at the start of the season, thatâs nothing on where she is now - now, she really has nothing left to lose so she can have this conversation and look! Direct communication actually worked! She got the results she wanted. Also interesting is the choice to put Leonie in white and shoot against this wall - she looks diminished and washed out even after they were put back on the same level when they sit. Until now itâs been hard to sympathise with her. Yes, we know sheâs been hurt, but sheâs been so awful with it. But itâs so clear here just how much of a toll all this has taken on her too. And itâs so painful to watch Hanna have to admit to the things she did that have ruined so many of her relationships. And the business with wishing we can change things but not being able to - itâs so human (and also this scene is so incredibly well acted!) and it sucks to have to admit that we canât do anything about what weâve done in the past.
7. Somehow this bit with Jule doesnât hit the way it does in Evaâs season. I think itâs a combination of the way theyâve chosen to portray Jule - she seems a lot more standoffish - and the fact that Matteo has been a bit sketchy the whole time, with some clear hints that heâs not all he seems to be. Also, possibly, because we do have Skam as a reference and so we did already know where this was going. Either way, this last part of the scene falls flat after the very emotional bits with Leonie. Â
Overall, I find this episode a lot more fluid than the previous one. But this last dayâs clips must have been a whole lot when watching live. Poor Hanna goes through the ringer on this one day. The way this one is lit is really interesting as well. Itâs either dark shadows or itâs really bright light, almost harsh with sun etc almost washing things out. Itâs an episode of extremes, which I guess is the point. Hanna is going through some extreme emotions here, and the surroundings do tend to reflect that.

Steve and Peggy come home a few hours later, just as the movie you and Bucky were watching was over. You can hear them giggling about something and you look at Bucky with a smile.Â
They walk into the living room, Peggy rubbing her stomach and Steveâs arm around her waist. You give them a bright smile, âdid you guys have fun?â.Â
Peggy nods, âyes, thank you so much for offering to babysit while we went on a dateâ.Â
You wave her off, âitâs no problem, the kids were great. Just let us know when you want to do it againâ. You all say your farewells as you and Bucky leave and get into the car.Â
On the drive back you play with Buckyâs fingers as you say, âcan I go shopping tomorrow? In the city?â.Â
Bucky looks over at you before looking back at the road, âof course Doll, you donât have to ask me for permission, just tell me youâre going so I know where you are and safeâ.Â
You nod, âI know. Its just, I donât know how to get there because I canât-well I donât want to driveâ.Â
Bucky is lost in thought before asking, âyou wanna go tomorrow?â, you nod as he carries on, âokay, Iâll sort something out for you baby-dollâ. He smiles at you and you kiss his hand in thanks.
You wake up the next day to another note on the pillow next to you: Morning Doll, come to the office when youâre awake and ready to go shopping. I love you, B.Â
You smile at the last words as butterflies flutter in your stomach and chest. You get dressed and skip down the stairs and make your way to his office.Â
You donât knock as you walk in to see Sam and Steve at the desk with Bucky and another man you canât see who it is from behind.Â
They stop talking as you get closer and the guy turns around. It takes you a minute but when you realise who it is you smile and hug him. You pull back to him giving you a smile too, âRay! I canât believe its you!â.Â
Ray used to be your handler when you were a homeless informant. You both got on quite well and you wondered now and then if you would ever see him again. He chuckles, âhi Y/Nâ.Â
You look at Bucky and then back at Ray, âwhat are you doing here?â.Â
Bucky answers for Ray, âI thought that he could drive you into the city and keep an eye on you for me, since I have to stay here and sort out this problemâ.Â
You smile at him and then at Ray, âthank you Ray. Is it okay if you bring the car around and Iâll join you in a sec?â.Â
He nods and heads out of the office. You turn to Bucky, âthank youâ. You lean over the desk and give him a kiss.Â
He smiles which turns into a smirk as you say, âcan I have some money for shopping?â.Â
He reaches a hand inside his suit jacket and pulls out a card holding it out for you. You just stare at it for a while before he waves it, âits yours. Keep it, thereâs plenty of money in thereâ.Â
You take it slowly, âdo I even want to know how much is in there?â.Â
He laughs, âjust donât go buying a mansion and I think youâll be fineâ.Â
You kiss him again and whisper, âI love youâ.Â
You see a blush creep into his cheeks slightly as he fights a smile. Before you pull away completely he whispers, âI love you tooâ.
You catch up with Ray on the drive to the city which distracts you from the anxiety of being in the car. It goes by quickly and before you know it Ray is parking up and youâre getting out of the car.Â
You both grab some food first after the long drive and catch up further and then Ray follows you as you pick which shops to go in. You were shopping in the menâs section of a shop which prompted Rayâs next question, âso, you and Bucky huh?â.Â
You smile at him, âtrust me, I did not plan on it happeningâ.Â
You were searching for his size on the rack for a red Henley shirt when Ray says, âI think you guys suit each otherâ.Â
You laugh, âyeah, a homeless girl and a mob bossâ.Â
He goes serious for a second, âhe was homeless too at some point in his lifeâ.Â
You look over to Ray surprised, âI didnât know thatâ.Â
Ray nods like he understands why he wouldnât tell you, âhe doesnât like talking about it. I only know because some of the boys who worked under the old boss knew about it and told meâ.Â
You think about it for a while as you pick up a range of Henley shirts and jeans for him. It does make sense that he makes use of homeless informants. He would know how useful they were for spying and you understand why he didnât tell you, since you werenât thrilled telling people you were homeless either.
You and Ray talk as you pick up a few more things. You go into a kid shop thinking about Sarah and Joseph as you ask Ray, âare you married Ray?â.Â
He chuckles, âno, Iâm not. I have a girlfriend thoughâŠwe havenât told anyone yet, but we found out last week that sheâs pregnantâ.Â
You look at him with shock and happiness, âoh wow! Congratulations Ray! Thatïżœïżœïżœs wonderful. Well, if you see anything here you want to get-â.Â
He waves you off, âoh no, I couldnâtâ.Â
You shake your head, âhonestly Ray, its nothing. If you see something, tell me and Iâm getting itâ. He gives you a grateful smile as you look at new born clothes with him.Â
You were laughing with him about what one t-shirt said until shadows fall across the two of you. You glance behind you and stiffen. It was Isaac Williams being trailed by two rather big looking guys.Â
He smiles at you, not even acknowledging Ray, âexpecting, are you?â.Â
You put the baby shirt back, ânoâ.Â
He keeps his creepy smile, âthen why were you looking at baby clothes?â.Â
âItâs not really any of your businessâ, you keep your words clipped. Youâre finding it harder to be civil with him after finding out what he did to those men.Â
You can feel Ray get slightly closer to you as Isaac loses the fake kindness in his smile, âthat was rude Y/N. I was only asking you a questionâ.Â
You narrow your eyes at him, âand what exactly are you doing here?â.Â
âI had business to attend toâ, he keeps it vague on purpose.Â
You donât let up, âin a kid store?â.Â
He chuckles, âelsewhere. But I saw you coming in and couldnât help myselfâ.Â
You grab Rayâs arm and look at Isaac, âwell, as fun as this was, we need to get goingâ.Â
Isaac slides smoothly, blocking your escape, âI would like to invite you to carry on this conversation back at one of my estatesâ.Â
Alarm bells start ringing loudly in your head and you have to fight the urge to reach for your phone and speed dial Bucky, âlike I said, me and my friend have somewhere else to beâ.Â
Isaac laughs, âoh silly me, its my fault. I guess invitation implies that Iâm giving you a choiceâ.Â
Your heart races as you stare at him. You feel Ray move and so do Isaacâs guys. They reach behind them like theyâre about to pull a weapon, so Ray stops.Â
Isaac tuts, ânow now, letâs not make this difficult. I just want to get to know you better Y/N, without Bucky aroundâ.Â
Anger spikes in you, âwell I donât want to get to know you better. So, Iâll passâ.Â
You stare at each other for a few minutes and you barely register the flick of his fingers before one of his guys punches Ray in the face. Ray ends up on the floor from the surprise attack as the same guy kicks him.Â
You start to go to Ray when Isaac yanks you back. Another kick lands into Ray and you look around the shop to find it pretty much empty and no one looking. You canât risk calling for help and others getting hurt.
You turn to him, venom in your eyes, âstop it. Leave Ray and Iâll come with youâ. When he lets you go, his guy backs away from Ray. You go over to Ray and check him over. You see heâs bleeding from his lip as he coughs from the kicks.Â
He whispers, âdonât go with him for meâ.Â
You take a tissue out of your pocket and dab at his lip, âits fine Ray, we donât really have many other choices, do we? Just ring Bucky and tell him it was Isaac Williamsâ.Â
Thatâs all you get to say to each other as Isaac clears his throat, âletâs go before we make a scene. Nice meeting you Rayâ.Â
You lay a hand on Rayâs shoulder before getting up and walking with Isaac out the store. Youâre silent when you get into the car. Isaac gets in the back with you.Â
It wasnât long into the ride when Isaac turns to you, âgive me your phoneâ.Â
You donât even look at him when you ask, âwhy?â.Â
He sighs, âbecause Iâve told you toâ.Â
You laugh before saying, âwhatâs the point in giving you my phone when you and I both know that Ray is calling Bucky right nowâ.Â
You hear annoyance seeping into his voice, âyes, Iâm well aware of that. I just donât want you getting any ideas of recording our conversations or letting Bucky listen to itâ.Â
You feel your stomach knot as you carry on defying him. You know you should just do what he asks, but youâre stubborn and it makes you even more sick complying with him. So, you stare straight ahead and ignore him.Â
His hand whips out and grabs your arm hard. You feel his fingers dig in as you turn to look at him. His expression is dark as he yanks on your arm pulling your body closer in the car. His voice is low when he speaks again, âgive me your phoneâ.Â
You give him a disgusted look as you use your other hand to reach in your pocket and pull out your phone. He snatches it off you and pushes you away from him, âsee? That wasnât so hard was it?â.Â
You just scoot into the corner of the car and look out the window, fighting the urge to be sick.

danny phantom, season 3 episodes 3-6 thoughts!
see prev episode thoughts in this tag <3
-johnny was actually pretty civil with danny and left when he asked! thats nice. also, SKULKER?? HAD A FRAMED PICTURE OF EMBER?? oooo fuck wait had they established they were a Thing Before?? I dont think so. thats weird. its like that country boy/goth girl meme lmfao. I think i am going to choose to ignore this new info and pretend I didnt hear it. 100% unrelated to the jazz/ember fanart I already drew and posted....đł
-LADIES NIGHT EPISODE THIS IS WHAT ITS ALL ABOUT. wish it didnt really center around the guys or them being pissed at them, but. willing to bet this was written by men lol
-THEY ERASED ALL THE MEN??? meanwhile, jack and danny are fishing at. silent hill or something. im glad jack is trying to read a parenting book and making an Attempt. (theyre at lake erie, but, they made it actually eerie...thats fun)
-the girls alt outfits...cute. EMBER MADE A NEW SONG TOO!!! kinda. jazz being one of the backup singers and being AWFUL. NOOOO
-'how are we going to get kitty to blow a kiss?' 'she'll have to think there are still some males in town!' ...i dont know how to break it to you, but I dont know that a 100% het girl would wish for all men to Begone. I think. I mean im not a het or a girl so I dont really know for sure. she Is probably Bi tho. esp having the other ladies in town chanting NO MEN!!! excitedly............(then again, the kiss is to get Rid of men, so, she probably would have blown it at the ladies only if they were actively trying to attack/stop them, so...I MEAN. THE DRESSING LIKE DANNY BIT WAS SO EXTRA)
-I feel like an all female cast ep couldve been way way way way cooler than that was. like. why was it still somehow all about Men. ...anyway. (where was valerie...)
-next ep opens with the observants, and, way way more of them than I expected...existed? I mean I guess them being a council/jury of some kind is what I expected from their first appearance (bc at that time they were basically TELLING clockwork to kill danny, not asking,, so I figured they had SOME kind of authority) but. there were so many. anyway, here goes vlad! letting his own hubris go brrrr. releasing a weather ghost for political gain! #justvladthings
-okay say what you will about him (he IS an asshole) but having an umbrella with his own face on it and more prepared to share is SUPER FUNNY. and him being fanned by huge wads of money by his bodyguards. SO ineffective but so Dramatic. He UNDERSTANDS that if youre rich you need to be. you know. obnoxious and kinda eccentric about it! fuckign hate when rich people are boring about it. I would trust vlad with nothing except to not be a boring rich asshole who wears...fucking khaki or some shit. man knows his Presentation Skills. and that 'V' chair in his mayoral office. is that fucking embroidered?
-maddie get your MAN PLEEEEASSSE. IM SO EMBARRASSED FOR HER. the way jack stays simping for this man. in FRONT OF HIS WIFE!!!! ...my god its like a love triangle. jack clearly loves vlad, who loves maddie, who loves jack. jack fenton is at the very least bi, right................. this is an OBSESSION . 'THE V MAN COMETH'???? i...my god. (also, on a serious note, to have a friend THIS SUPPORTIVE...and still be SUCH A DICK TO HIM (TRYING TO KILL HIM AND STEAL HIS WIFE??) NOT COOL VLAD. JACK IS YOUR 1 AND /ONLY/ HYPE MAN. if someone loved and supported me THIS HARD...LIKE. CMON DUDE.
-STOMP the fucking GAS, JACK
-this would make a great shirt design, looks like a metal band design! we love The Maelstrom
-oh, so vlad did in fact get a mansion in amity park. and its purple! good color choice! not as flashy as a CASTLE or MURDER CABIN, but still pretty eccentric, which I appreciate.
-...vlad knows the difference between picasso and da vinci? in the ep last post where we were watching him fail at conquering every historical time ever he didnt seem to know history well enough to like. be effective...was vlad taking art history at college?? (was he an art MAJOR??? we never DID KNOW WHAT HE WENT TO SCHOOL FOR. I kinda assumed business because in the masters of time ep he was still rich without ghost powers so he had to have..known something about business or something, right...but also, art and or theater FITS HIS PERSONALITY. possibly also something science-y, I guess, but I always felt like he got roped into that, esp how pessimistic he was about the ghost portal in the flashbacks to college, like, i felt like he was just there for maddie and was uninterested/un-invested at the time...)
-THIS GHOST JUST ELECTROCUTED MADDIE (THE CAT) BITCH!! THATS MY FAVORITE MADDIE!!! vlad going after vortex and being ~shocked~ .....WHEN. WHEN WILL YOU LEARN. THAT YOUR ACTIONS. HAVE CONSEQUENCES!!!
-the way this random man with a camera sees the mayor laying in an alley covered in TRASH AND DECIDES TO TAKE A PICTURE HAHAH
*snap* this ones going in my cringe compilation!

I mean. billionaires usually dont do that. then again, we've only seen those vultures working for him (and I guess the dairy king was AT his old mansion, but it was never really clarified if he worked there...I think he probably just Hung Out and they Enjoyed Cheeses Together. thats what I think, I dont think a KING would be working for anyone and also the dairy king was nice <3) but then again he would be a private person and we cant have anyone accidentally finding Ghostly Things, so...still, that's hilarious. pour one out for that really cute banana split that got ruined 2 seconds later
-vlad just fucking picking danny up and THROWING HIM AT VORTEX TWICE WITHIN LIKE A MINUTE. JUST ABSOLUTELY LAUNCHING HIM. BITCH THATS MY SON BE CAREFUL!!! HES GOT ORGANS AND THINGS!!!!

THIS SHOWS HUMOR IS SO UNEXPECTED SOMETIMES ITS REALLY GOOD. and then the scene after, mr lancer running into his ghost doppelganger and being like 'YOURE GORGOUS' THEN FAINTING. I AM CRYING. AND DASH FAINTING TOO.
-sam disguising herself as danny again to help tucker run from the fentons. but leaving him shirtless in the streets. incredible. 'plEASE DOnt NOTice MY FACELessNESS I MUST LIVE IN EXILE' this episode is destroying me the humor in this show is exactly my brand of corny and cheesy
-the impromtu story made up by danny and amorpho to explain stuff to the fentons. my god they are both such bad liars. but amorpho is a good egg. wish danny wouldnt have said he didnt wanna see him in town again!! -im so glad danny has a friendly ghost snow dad to explain this new power and teach him!!! this is so sweet. DANNY'S GHOST SENSE WAS A PART OF HIS ICE POWER?? OOOH. COOL. we love a training montage!!!
-danny saying if he cant defeat overgrowth, that he'd want to stay with frostbite...oh my god...do you think this is the first real supportive adult figure in his life (I am NOT counting his parents because they threaten him on the daily even if they dont realize it.) I mean mr lancer is a Teacher, but he was also nice but this is different, but this is a GHOST WHO IS WILLING TO HELP HIM with his powers and also will help him when hes injured and is so so nice and comparatively so much more mature than 90% of the adults in this show!!!! god. dad frostbite is my everything.
-the framing and lighting this episode, and all the angles...they went all OUT and it looks really really good. this is my nightmare scenario, tho. like, FUCK zombies and dead city zones and hivemind shit. and using the humans as 'nutrients for the children' i am going to THROW UP.
-MALEFICENT VIBES WITH THE HORNS AND GREEN EYES! this costume kicks so much ass. sam is now mark hamills daughter, I guess.
-danny's ice powers making his eyes blue!!! thats neat. and him going for the roots underground was SO SMART. i will not stand for danny ever thinking hes stupid, hes SO smart.
almost done with the show... :"( thats a sad thought!!!

hi! i always love your posts and the way you look at things so iâve been wondering if you would like to talk about your criticism towards s3 and the things that you didnât like?
hello! i have a couple anons about this so here we go! not gonna lie, iâve been wanting to talk about this for AGES. i just kept quiet until the holier than thou druck s3 fans were more out of the fandom to get properly into it.
let me preface with that i absolutely adore season three and it is something that i hold so so close to my heart because itâs a reality i live & seeing it displayed in a loving and caring manner that wasnât fetishized or as heavy on the trauma porn as usual trans media was a very big thing. however... (adding a read more because this shit got long).
1. the outing scene. this scene was written solely for cis people and it was trauma porn. this was evident by the fact there was no trigger warning and it is something that happens to a lot of trans people and is extremely triggering. being outed like that, even as a non-straight cis person, can be life or death in some circumstancesâthis is increased when it comes to trans people. this scene was used to further matteoâs âacceptanceâ of david rather than talk about why david even moved in the first place. this was the moment that matteo chose to be with david but it should have been framed in another moment.
2. how long it took for matteo to get back to david after david told him he was trans. not only this but he also watched one video where it was a cis person talking about what it means to be transgender. he could have gone to the source? the person who TOLD him? i understand that they wanted to have the exploration and have hans be this âgay guruâ for him but it was poorly executed. it would have done much better to have the boys talk about david being trans BEFORE having sex. being trans impacts a big part of the relationship (especially in a trans/cis one) and itâs something that should have been talked about beforehand.
3. the lack of address to matteoâs mental health. this one doesnât bother me as much anymore because i now see it as this âmatteo doesnât recognize how heâs feeling isnât normal & he needs to get helpâ but during the season, it kept rubbing me wrong. he was abusing substances when he thought he had been rejected. that is not a normal reaction to being rejected. he also spiralled to the point where he looked ill, continually needed to buy more weed, his room became a disaster, and iâm willing to bet he didnât eat that much at all. he hollered at his friends when we know that heâs generally laid back and calm. also, the scene with hanna. that is NOT a normal sadness to being rejected. however, i was talking to my boyfriend, and he said that it was likely that they were trying to frame it as him spiralling due to the struggle with his sexuality & being isolated which i agree with! i think it was just poorly executed and they could have included a clip talking about the impact of that on someoneâs mental health.
4. the overall lack of addressing matteo cheating on sara. i am tired of these cheating dynamics. thatâs all.
5. this is just a personal one but the cartoon of them driving to detroit that david sent felt SO out of character for me. donât get me wrong, that clip is one of my absolute favourites because you see how matteo interacts with the boy squad, the giddiness of seeing david, the power of having them hug rather than sexâitâs all wonderful. but the drawing? after he had just spent so much time practically destroying every aspect of the budding relationship. i know they needed a way to get matteo and david to finally talk about but this just bugged me a wee bit.
6. the lack of addressing to the teacherâs transphobia. really? solved in one clip by the principal being like âlet him redo the testâ and the teacher being like âokâ. i know that this happened in the last week or so, so they were trying to tie up all the loose ends but it left a bitter taste in my mouth.
7. this one again is a more personal one but it rubbed me wrong how little we actually saw of david. all other evens were more present in the seasons despite it being more about the isaksâ journey of realizing his sexuality and coming to terms with it. we got very little davenzi time compared to other remakes when the story was about matteo falling in love with a trans guy & coming to terms with his sexuality as a gay man. there could also be the topic of changing the âmentally ill pan guyâ to the âtransgender pan guyâ could be seen as wrong but it didnât bother me as much because i think it was the best season to do this with.
8. no clip the day after david was outed. nothing. radio silence. someone has just been violently outed to their brand new school and you showed that to your audience in a triggering manner and went SILENT? hmm. no. no thank u.

Traitor Tubbo
I've seen so many excellent theories as to who the traitor is and I would like to throw my hat into the ring. I see several possible options. Depending on how this is received, this could be part one of a few. Reminder, this is all speculation. I'm analyzing a character here, not the streamer themselves, and in reality no one, especially not these teens and 20-something role players, are genuinely intending to be malicious or calculated. This is a game. But they're playing it, and my heartstrings, so damn well.
My top theory for the traitor? Tubbo.
Traitor Tubbo is definitely a fan favorite, and I'm probably a bit biased. I watch his streams most often and perhaps am overthinking things. But here's my supporting evidence: I think Tubbo has the most motivation because it's been established that Tubbo is underapprecited and underestimated. He's assumed to a yes-man, Tommy's right hand man. Schlatt specifically made him Secretary of State because he knew it would be a kick in the gut to Tommy.
But everyone also knows that shit gets done when Tubbo is on the server. This kid is dedicated. Guess thats what quarantine does to a Minecrafter. He planned the fesitval, helped streamline Pogtopia's potatoes, is an expert in redstone, is draining the ocean and making allies with the Badlands (BBH, Awesamdude, Antfrost, a few others).
Jschlatt said in his speech at the Festival that Tubbo gets things done (only to kill the kid like 10 minutes later ) and Wilbur said, later, that the planned Manberg Hotel probably won't be built now that Tubbo is (supposedly) on Pogtopia's side. I see parallels to Eret's traitor arc: he was the deus ex machina who saved them in Season 1 from being arrested for drugs, built their walls overnight and was given little credit for it. Wilbur still says to this day, "The walls I built to protect us."
Underappreciation fuels betrayal on this server. And Eret was smart. Overpowered, almost, from all his grinding (some of which he did with Tubbo, for hours on end.) He knew the revolution was 'never meant to be,' that L'Manberg was the losing side. He betrayed for power and kingship. Tubbo has different motivations - he doesn't advocate for violence, so he's said, and he just wants people to get along. He doesn't want a war. So what might he do for peace?
We all know, if we watch old SMP Earth clips and his Among Us streams that he is big brained. He's sometimes malicious and mischievous when he wants to be, as attested by his recent stair pranks. So him being the peaceful, owo baby boi side character isn't necessarily fact. It's a bit. A role, along the lines of Tubee and Big Law. He's much more.
Speaking of the stair prank, so funny, but had the potential to be cruel, too. Anyways, he clearly said that he was watching Tommy's stream, and saw Tommy die to the stairs. Then he pops on the server later and acts clueless to what went down, though he knew, mentioned in his stream earlier that day, that something important was going to happen that day. He turns up while they're discussing traitors, is quick to take control of the conversation and point out that the traitor is likely Wilbur (for being 'technically' on Dream's side, the side of chaos.) Fuel is added to the flames of confusion and infighting.
Playing dumb is one of Tubbo's most popular bits. It farms awes, as Tommy says. People underestimate him and assume he has no reason to lie. Tommy so easily believed him when Tubbo said he had the discs. In the Dream Betrayal stream, Tommy confronts Dream about the location of the discs with Tubbo in the call. The misunderstanding is cleared up. They don't question Tubbo's earlier statements. They also don't question it when Tubbo mentions he has blackmail on Dream. I have no idea what that might be, we can speculate on that all day. But when it comes to the discs, I think Tubbo lost a bargaining chip there. His lie was very thin. But we know he's good at lying (when its actually important) and thinking quick on his feet so I feel like there must be some motivation behind it. I don't know how, but I think the discs will definitely play a part in the coming war.
That same stream, with Dream's betrayal, Wilbur even foreshadowed Traitor Tubbo. He was making a list of their allies on the wall in Pogtopia and, despite his chat screaming at him to include Tubbo, he leaves the kid off the list and dismisses chat's worries. I'm being a little dramatic here, but can you imagine Tubbo coming across that? Seeing himself, once again, left out of the loop, off the list of people they can trust, possibly considered unimportant now that he's filled his role as a spy and had his arc seemingly completed? Back to being a yes man, a footnote in L'manberg's history, the sidekick to the protagonist, a foil who is killed off to fuel the protagonists' need for revenge.
Except, in Minecraft, you don't really die. You're respawned. Tubbo didn't die when he was executed on the day of the festival; a celebration he planned, was proud of, so excited to take part of that he used a dyslexic font to write his speech.
Some notes about the festival.
1. His excitement. He was looking forward to it. I say let him be excited, that's not necessarily suspicious - he worked damn hard on it.
2. But, I have thought about his difficulty choosing a side. He showed interest in blowing up L'Manberg, but then turns on a dime when Tommy says it's bad, and then comes up with a diplomatic response of "I trust your better judgment, Wilbur " There was the added element of peer pressure from Wilbur and Tommy, granted, talking over him and assuming his viewpoint. He's not always a yes man, he stands up to himself with Tommy constantly, but the scene with him on the roof with Tommy and Wilbur shows how little he is kept in the loop. (Him understanding peer pressure likely led to him forgiving Techno so easily. But I also wonder, and others have too, if he forgave Techno.... too easily.)
3. This isn't so much of a point but something that keeps the writer in me up late at night. He was very grateful when Schlatt praised him, probably something he didn't hear often under Wilbur's rule.
4. He said the phrase. In spite of him not advocating for violence, he said the phrase that would trigger an explosion. The choice was in his hands. That is assuming he got Wilbur's DM telling him what to do, but Tubbo had been told by Wilbur to check his DMs and they had been exchanging whispers frequently throughout the stream, Tubbo taking orders from Wilbur to hurry things along. On that note, why a DM? Why didn't he give Tubbo the order through a whisper thru minecraft where we could see the wording? Likely because they use their DMs to push along major plot points and discuss serious matters. This wasn't just an order from Wilbur, the character, this was an order from the streamer who has the most role playing experience and has admitted to being the puppetmaster behind a lot of Tommy and Tubbo's major actions. Tubbo, who has always tried to advocate for peace, supposedly was told a trigger phrase that would blow the place up, and he said it. It was so out of character for him, that I was surprised, and Wilbur was surprised too, from how Tubbo scrambled. So, I don't know - did Tubbo know it was a trigger phrase? What did the DM say?
There was clearly a lot of miscommunication and weird things that day so all of this is speculation. However, from Tubbo' side of the stream, you can see the deliberation when he finished the speech. The pause. The silence, like he was finished, but then Schlatt reminded him (not the real quote) "Anything else?" And then. Tubbo took the leap. To us, the uninformed audience, it seemed he was willing, in that moment, to allow the chaos.
He was given a role of power, and it backfired on him so quick after, but I would like to rewind to the moment Wilbur decided to give Tubbo a deciding role. I knew Tubbo would be playing a big part this season, cause the boy deserves it, but Wilbur putting that decision in the hands of Tubbo? Wow. *Chef's kiss* Wil's reasoning was, if Tubbo wanted to prove he wasn't a yes man, he'd make the decision NOT to pull the trigger.
But Wilbur also said that Schlatt approved of the speech and would know if Tubbo deviated, putting Tubbo at risk of being caught. He was caught anyway, obviously, but there was a moment there... where Schlatt was giving Tubbo a choice, too. To say the phrase that would prove he was a traitor. Like...Schlatt knew what was planned, and wanted to see what Tubbo would decide. Maybe it was a trigger phrase for something else, not just the bombs.
Point is. Tubbo, technically, saved the day. He was, in physical form, the button. He was the deciding factor for great destruction. He said the phrase, but instead of Manberg being blown, Schlatt moved quickly to trap Tubbo and start a bit that would STOP WILBUR IN HIS TRACKS. The button was never fully pressed. Tubbo's Traitor/Spy Arc was halted, and a diverging plot formed, one where Tubbo is exiled too, trusted again by Pogtopia, and the land isn't blown to smithereens.
As Wilbur has said time and time again, when you introduce a weapon in a story, it has to go off at some point. Traitor Tubbo has been on our minds since the day he was left behind in Manberg and given a position, (once again, might I add, as a right hand man, a loyal lackey. Never the lead.) Has that arc met its completing? Did it go off with a bang?
One possible theory is that, well, no. This has all been premeditated. Not scripted fully, but I feel as though there are strings being pulled by a master who knows how to tell a story.
When he was asked to be a spy, Tubbo's position was nearly revealed time and time again but it was Schlatt who decided he was too bored to continue walking down the tunnels. It was Schlatt who easily accepted Tubbo's blatant lie that he was pregnant and allowed for so much betrayal under his nose.
What I'm saying here is that Schlatt is, in fanfic terms, soft for Tubbo. In a less fluffy way, what I'm suggesting (which has been suggested before) is that Tubbo wasn't a double agent. He was a triple agent.
I've read a lot of fucking books, and when you're a triple agent and one side is getting suspicious of you, what's the greatest length you can go to to prove your loyalty to someone? Die for them. Organize your execution. Throw yourself on top of a bomb.
But like I said. You don't die in Minecraft.
(While I'm on the subject, does anyone find it interesting how Tubbo focused on messaging only Wilbur while Technoblade was on stage, whispering 'i thought he woulded hurt me?' and the like. Wouldn't you, if you were being executed, contact your best friend to get you out of there? Or the clearly stalling 'ally' holding a crossbow to your head? But it wasn't Tommy or Techno that Tubbo needed to convince of his innocence. Its Wilbur who was sus of him.)
I digress. Tubbo didn't die, but he execution=exile and he's living full time with Pogtopia. He's proven his loyalty. When Tubbo is asked if he's a traitor, his best friend quickly jumps to his support and says, something to the effect of, "Schlatt killed him! He couldn't be a traitor!" Suspicion is thrown off him.
He wasn't even there when Dream revealed there was a traitor. He. Played. Dumb.
Meanwhile, streaming on his own, Tubbo is seeking out tridents and OP bows, working on Redstone traps, refusing to get netherite for Tommy, going so far as to trap his friend's house under the guise of a prank, and appearing in TeamSpeak calls to listen in while Tommy was mining gold with Dream (around the time Tommy was pressuring the green bastard to reveal who the traitor is.)
Tubbo has also been building a reputation as someone with bad wifi and a constantly crashing game, so he can conveniently leave situations and not help out when he doesn't wanna. Sidebar: I have to wonder if Tubbo will even stream the day of the war. Schlatt doesn't stream, and neither did the Dream Team when they were villains. It builds up tension and the audience wonders about their motivations. Granted, Eret did stream so his betrayal was a huge surprise, but recently Tubbo has, quite often, made a point of struggling with bad wifi and a game that seems to crash when he's not the one streaming. It wouldn't be too suspicious for him to claim technical difficulties so he can slide under the radar and not have snitches and stream snipers tracing his steps. This is a stretch, but it would be Big Brained to meta game the war.
I've watched a lot of Tubbo's streams lately. It's probably not healthy, and I'm probably connecting dots that aren't there.
But here is my prediction(s) for next week.
Dream said, jokingly, the traitor is Tommy. Despite Tommy's adamance, it may just be possible. He just doesn't know about it yet. Maybe Tubbo talks Tommy into betraying Wilbur. (Wilbur, specifically, and not necessarily their cause, which is not to be exiled and have a not-blown-up L'manberg.) Tommy has said he couldn't be the traitor because he wouldn't betray Tubbo (followed by "Wilbur, too...well...he is a little crazy lately" and you can hear Tubbo in the background making noises of agreement.)
But if betraying Tubbo was no longer a worry? I think, for Tubbo, and for the discs, Tommy would negotiate new terms with Dream. Another end to the war. Another peace treaty. Let's be real, once Tommy switches sides, Pogtopia will crumble. Him and Tubbo are the linchpins.
To continue, Dream supposedly has a contract with Schlatt, and in the stream today, he was leaving banners with a big red X on different properties, like in Tommy's house. Marking territory. He made a point of doing it while Tommy was streaming, following the kid around into the nether and giving shields with the giant red X to supposedly Pogtopian allies (Awesamdude, George.)
Wilbur told Quackity in the Dream Betrayal stream that he worries that Dream's deal with Schlatt is to rescind Manberg's independence. To give power back to Dream. To get Tommy's allyship, Dream may propose instating Tommy as president. Those are Wilbur's predictions. They're not far off the mark. Or maybe I'm just as paranoid as him lol.
I think Dream is trying to manipulate Tommy, but what will the terms be? Presidency? Or Freedom?
I'm not sure that Tommy wants to be president. He likes to play around and while he's shown he can be good at coordination and leadership, (for example, the recent MCC thing where he taught Quackity how to play and they kicked ass,) Wilbur is quite right. Tommy shouldn't be president. Narratively, we all know the server would become....chaos. Okay, that might be kind of fun and he's got good ideas.. I like the kid, and he's grown so much, but he's not "mature enough." Not like Tubbo is, according to Wilbur himself (this is referencing the Stays in The Pit battle). Dream has also said, in the eboy collaboration, that the only Dream SMP player in the video whose stood a chance was Tubbo.
Tubbo has said he doesn't want to be president either, but shit gets done when Tubbo is on. Nature is preserved, giant builds are coordinated, events planned (with cute little digital invites sent to players). The few times that Tubbo has shared his opinion about drama on the server (there's a moment before the Pit that he gives a good speech) he's shown sound logic, great empathy, a willingness to compromise, to have fun and strengthen their community.
There's an old saying, that those who seek power shouldn't have it, and those who don't want the power are the ones who deserve it. If peace wants to be preserved on the SMP, maybe Tubbo should be president, and Tommy should see what it's like to be the right hand man. Or maybe, they will simply run off to a distant jungle base and leave the war to the adults.
My point is, Tubbo is Chekov's gun. Tubbo is the button that hasn't been pushed yet. He may be the deciding factor to change the tide of the war, by changing Tommy's loyalties. Tubbo might not be fully loyal to Schlatt, I could be totally off about the triple agent thing, but he's certainly not loyal to Wilbur. To Dream? We'll have to see. From what we've been shown so far, his loyalty is to himself and to Tommy, and in the end, its usually him and Tommy against the world.
If I'm wrong, I'm wrong. It's fun to speculate. He's just a kid, a smart one granted, and he's having fun; he isn't evil. Unless Evil Tubbo is the next huge arc, the villain of Season 3???? God I would love that. Go feral kiddo.
There are other streamers who are equally over looked and unappreciated and have just as much motivation to be the traitor. Niki is a strong contender, have ya'll heard about the letter she wrote to a mysterious 'friend?' Or, or, what if Philza gets whitelisted? What if there's no shocking traitor at all, just Dream trying to cause division in Pogtopia? What if it's us, the viewers, who were the traitors all along for being dirty snitches? (@rainbowtransform, great theory.)
I'm sure I'll be surprised no matter what the outcome is. But nothing would please me more than to see Tubbo get the spotlight he deserves.
Let me know your thoughts?

Hey! You can feel free to ignore this since it is a big ask but. As someone who dropped off the show by s8 and doesnât really care about following the big plot points, can you recommend to me all the good Sam & Dean episodes that have happened since? (Not just angst or drama even, even just episodes with funny little moments or details?) I am like, solely here for these two being codependent and soulmates and not much else. <3 (Sidenote: thank you for your tagging system!)
Hi! Sorry itâs taken me so long to reply to this; as you yourself said this was a big ask, lots of episodes to go through and remember but hopefully youâre still interested in my answer.Â
Now the following are not every episode where thereâs a brother moment for example the s8 premiere had a great brother hug where the boys reunite, episode 3 of that same season drew parallels between the boys and a couple, if I remember correctly, but those episodes are not included on the list because I didnât just wanna recommend every single epi that had a brother scene just because it had a brother scene. I took into consideration if it had moments, what they were, enjoyability of the episode and if the moment or moments were big enough to make a bad episode worth recommending, I donât wanna recommend something to you without thought and have you spend an hour of your life just to see and enjoy a flash in the pan moment you can enjoy just as much or more through gifs and clips.Â
In complete transparency I will also add that I did this mostly from memory so there is the chance that an episode with good moments slipped through the cracks and for that I apologize.Â
I donât know at what point of s8 you stopped watching or if you stopped before the season so I am starting this with s8.Â
Season 8
Episode 4: Bitten. This epi doesnât have a ton of moments or even a big one but it does have two students saying Sam and Dean give off workplace-romance vibes, and Iâm a sucker for the boys being compared to or thought of as a couple. Â
Episode 10: Torn and Frayed. Not gonna lie, not the biggest fan of this episode, but it does have the brothers choosing each other over Benny and Amelia soâŠ.
Episode 11: LARP and the Real Girl. I said it before in another post that to me this is the turning point of the season for the better, and it has the boys having fun.Â
Episode 12: As Time Goes By. I wouldnât call this one a Sam and Dean episode as in SamandDean packed with brother moments but we and the boys get to learn more about their legacy as Winchesters so if thatâs something youâre interested in...
Episode 14: Trial and Error. This one has emotional brother moments with Dean wanting Sam to be safe and have a normal life and Sam asking Dean to believe in him, and praising him.Â
Episode 17: Goodbye Stranger. To be honest, I donât remember if this epi has other brother moments but I am solely recommending it because this is the one where Dean learns the trials are making Sam sick and at the end thereâs a scene where he tells Sam to let him help carry the burden.Â
Episode 19: Taxi driver. Great epi filled with protective!Dean, he kills Benny to save Sam, a beautiful brother hug.Â
Episode 20: Pac man fever. They argue like a married couple and Deanâs fear is shown to be losing Sam.Â
Episode 21: The Great Escapist. Pretty much the whole episode has little moments of Dean taking care of Sam.Â
Episode 23: Sacrifice. âDonât you dare think that there is anything past or present that I would put in front of you!â This is the âif you watch nothing else from this seasonâ episode to watch. If you watch nothing else from the s8 sections of recommendations, watch this one, it has one of the best, most emotional Sam and Dean moments in the showâs history.
Season 9
Episode 1: I think Iâm Gonna Like It Here. âI made you a promise in that church. You and me, come whatever.â âThere ainât no me if there ainât no you.â I live for the codependency and for these two going to extremes to save the other including tricking into letting an angel possess the otherâs body, and I refuse to apologize for it.Â
Episode 5: Dog Dean Afternoon. Okay, Iâll admit this one definitely falls more under the fun episode type but it does have Dean being all worried about Sam, clutching to him and threatening to lick his face if he doesnât wake up.Â
Episode 7: Bad Boys. We learn more about young!Dean and see him choosing Sam over having a normal life.
Episode 15: #THINMAN. This one is an angsty one and not just because itâs the last time we see the Ghostfacers, this takes place after everything goes to shit in the boys relationship with Sam finding out about Deanâs betrayal and it contains parallels to what Ed and Harry are going through in their relationship, a protective worried Sam over Dean possibly being killed (which let me tell you is delicious to witness after all the angst and Sam acting like he doesnât care about Dean anymore), and a bittersweet moment of the boys reminiscing about their past.
Episode 16: Blade Runners. This one is being recommended because it has some protective!Dean and because Sam being Deanâs Colette bringing him out of his MOC induced rage.Â
Episode 23: Do You Believe in Miracles?. The âIâm proud of usâ moment, need I say more.
Season 10
Episode 1: Black.
Episode 2: Reinbach.
Episode 3: Soul Survivor. These three episodes are all being recommended for the exact same reason they have demon!Dean, and Sam going crazy trying to save him/find him. Plus, Soul Survivor has demon!Dean following Sam around the bunker.Â
Episode 4: Paper Moon. It has a flashback showing us just how far Sam was willing to go to get Dean back plus some emotional conversations between the boys.Â
Episode 5: Fan Fiction. I know people who like this episode. I know people who hate this episode. Personally, I think it has its good parts, it has some brother moments and some nods to wincest.
Episode 12: About A Boy. This one also falls more into the category of fun episode with Dean being turned into a teen, but it also has some good brother moments.Â
Episode 14: The Executionerâs Song. The fight scene between Dean and Cain was amazing and it has Dean collapsing into Samâs arms.Â
Episode 18: Book of the Damned. Love this episode, this epi is probs the best example as to what I enjoyed the most about s10; usually we see Dean being codependent and going to extremes to save Sam but during this season we see the opposite and this episode really highlights that with Sam telling Dean he canât lose him, telling Charlie he understands hunting is his life but he canât do it without his brother, going behind Deanâs back and seeking help from Rowena to try and save him.
Episode 19: The Werther Project. More Sam being desperate to save Dean, protective!Dean, and Dean saying he and Sam are stronger together than apart.Â
Episode 23: Brotherâs Keeper. Sam and Dean literally choose each other over the world and Dean kills Death over Sam.Â
Season 11
Episode 4: Baby. One of the best episodes, just our boys, the open road and all told from Babyâs POV. A must watch in my book.Â
Episode 8: Just My Imagination. The last flashback episode we ever got -Â *hits 15.16 with a shovel* like I said last flashback episode we got; itâs fun, has good Sam and Dean moments, we learn more young!Sam, Sam gets some love and praise, the boys wore cozy sweaters, good epi.Â
Episode 10: The Devil in the Details. It has protective!Dean and Lucifer point out to Sam that he and Dean have chosen each other time and time again because they canât stand to lose one another. What can I say, I like when the codependency is brought up.Â
Episode 11: Into the Mystic. Hereâs the thing with this episode, I have become sort of embittered towards it due this being the introduction of a character with whom there is an attempted romance in s15 which I heavily dislike but I canât deny that before that I really did like it, it has some good brother moments and it has Dean telling Sam he forgave him for not looking for him in Purgatory which is major.Â
Episode 15: Beyond the Mat. Another epi on the fun list, mostly being recommended because it has the boys having fun and thatâs something we rarely get to see.Â
Episode 16: Safe House. Protective!Worried about Dean!Sam!
Episode 17: Red Meat. What can I say about this iconic episode? It's one of the best episodes in the series, absolutely soul crushing, codependency times 1,000. Have tissues with you when you watch it because you will sob your heart out. They turned Sam and Dean into Romeo and Juliet but better.Â
Episode 20: Donât Call Me Shurley. Regardless of what a certain showrunner ended up doing to the character I do still love this episode and it has some great Sam and Dean content with Dean preferring to possibly die with Sam, telling him heâd never leave him and the return of the Samulet.Â
Episode 23: Alpha and Omega. Emotional brother hug, Dean saying he and Sam need each other.
Season 12
Episode 5: The One Youâve Been Waiting For. Iâm gonna be honest, I donât remember much of this episode other than I enjoyed it and that it had some fun moments between the boys.Â
Episode 9: First Blood. Iâm truly only recommending this because it had, Badass!Winchesters.
Episode 10: Lilly Sunder Has Some Regrets. Funny thing about this episode was it was supposed to be all about C but it ended up being enjoyable and filled with little Sam and Dean moments including some protective!Sam.Â
Episode 11: Regarding Dean. Jensenâs acting in this episode is next level, and it is filled with little brother moments.Â
Episode 18: The Memory Remains. The only reason I am recommending this one is because itâs the one where the boys carve their initials on the table which was a major moment.Â
Season 13
Episode 8: The Scorpion and the Frog. Another fun episode thatâs filled with little Sam and Dean moments.Â
Episode 11: Breakdown. For so long I talked about Dean being Samâs knight in shining armor itâd be wrong for me to not bring up the episode where it happened. Also, Dean tells Sam heâs there for him.Â
Episode 12: Various and Sundry Villains. It had some fun brother moments.Â
Season 14
Episode 4: Mint Condition. Fun Hallooween episode with fun, little moments. Absolutely loved this one.Â
Episode 11: Damaged Goods. This isnât really a Sam and Dean episode, or at least I donât consider it one but the ending scene between the brothers where Dean tells Sam heâs the only one that could have changed his mind about throwing himself into the box was beautiful.Â
Episode 12: Prophet and the Loss. The brother hug to end all brother hugs. Absolutely amazing episode, packed with brother moments including whatâs probably the best brother hug, will sing its praises till I die and then Iâll continue singing them in the afterlife.Â
Episode 13: Lebanon. The 300th episode. It has some moments between the boys as well as some touching scenes of the boys with their dad.Â
Season 15
Episode 4: Atomic Monsters. Is this partially on the recommended pile because Jensen directed it? Yes but nonetheless itâs a pretty good epi that while not super packed with brother moments does have them. (Also, this is the last season and Iâm sad to report we are scraping the bottom of the barrel trying to find Sam and Dean content in this dessert.)
Episode 11: The Gamblers. Good brother moments and the boys get called heroes which I love.Â
Episode 13: Destinyâs Child. The sole reason I am recommending this episode is for AU!Sam and Dean, they are the funnest thing this show has done in a while.Â
Episode 14: Last Holiday. While this doesnât really have Sam and Dean moments with the exception of Sam telling Dean he should have called him to let him know he was in trouble, it does have the boys being taken care of and getting to have some fun and thatâs something we so rarely get to see that I am including it.Â
Like I said, this is not a definitive list of every single episode that has Sam and Dean moments thereâs episodes like the most recent one, 15.17, that had a beautiful moment between the brothers but I didnât list the epi here cause I donât think itâs necessary to watch the whole episode for it when it can be seen and enjoyed just as much by watching it through a clip. Which while I donât recommend the whole ep I do highly recommend looking up the end and seeing the brother moment; point is, similar to 8.01 or 15.17 there were other episodes that had moments that werenât included due to seeing the whole epi not being necessary to enjoy the moment.
#i didn't wanna just recommend without thought so this took a long time#and i put a lot of work into it#ask#sam and dean#spn related#emblian

oh ffs, i have feels but also head exploded
So basically someone liked a story I wrote a million years ago and mostly forgotten about, and when that happens I often reread the thing. (I canât be the only one who does that...) Canât say Iâve thought about Alex/Izzie since I wrote it, couldnât even tell you when I stopped watching the show, though I think it was before her cancer.
Anyway I infected myself with feels for them again. And I dig the style I was using, 1+1 started a third chapter for funsies and should have stopped there. Because I did some reading and watched some clips and itâs all too much and when that happens I meta.
Usual mishmash, structure desired but no work put into achieving it. Classic brain dump.
Okay, fundamentals first. I am for now ignoring how Izzie/KH left the show. Because they had to exit her somehow and Iâm sure Shonda was pissed at her, (or was leaving the door open for her return but I doubt it.) Havenât seen it, if I needed to I could work it into my conception of their whole arc, but since Iâm more critically hung up before that point, not worrying about it.
Whatâs got me messed up is that RIGHT AFTER Izzie promised to not go crazy, she... went crazy. Like, WTF was that about? I get that GA is all about the soapy drama, that is why I stopped watching. First couple seasons: brilliant. Downhill from there. But two things:
1) We never get to see these two happily together. One hot second and bam.*** Every. Time. Shonda allowed it for Meredith and Derek, but in my brain other couples got it for periods of time at the least. But these two, nope. And know what? THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN FASCINATING TO WATCH. I could delve into this and might swing back around but trying to hit highlights.
2) It set them on two different storylines instead of one. And Izzie got the short stick. Yes I can see how it works on paper, but not on screen. There are limits to the visual medium and limits to how much screen time they were given, which pretty much destroy the ability to nuance something this complex. Â
a) Izzieâs in her own world dealing with a ghost and is basically in two relationships at once (mental note to look for parallels with Alexâs exit and Jo v Izzie.) Except oneâs a dream and the other is a reality that is still developing, yet she canât give attention to. She has to fight every time to be there for Alex in the real world, and we donât really get to explore her struggle. It often just looks like distraction and distance and him being second right after she firmly laid out that she cares about him.
b) Alex is in a relationship and is super happy and excited and wants the perfection heâs dreamed about to be real so much heâs overlooking everything thatâs off. In his own little dream world I guess, but like, the whole thing skews into this being the story of Alex while Izzie is wandering in circles somewhere over in that direction, all serving the purpose of advancing exploration and development of Alexâs character. When did KH ask to be let out? If it was after this point, Shonda svcks. I mean, it is cool to watch him really blossom, but since heâs doing it under his own steam Iâm left with a bad taste in my mouth. Because heâs not really in a real relationship. I want to see him get that, I want to see it for real.
***What IS interesting, Iâll admit, is that when theyâre not together, theyâre beautiful. Which is most of the time, so they gave me that. Iâm a massive fan of the bittersweet, the star crossed, the never-quite-on-the-same-page, the nuance, the âitâs a deeper connection, a deeper love than just romance.â Thank gosh, it is time for excited thoughts. Because there is a strong friendship and mutual reliance and helping each other grow, pushing and giving hard truths and encouragement, and yes romance is woven through this but not the genesis and used more in terms of nudging everything along the path.
I love that Alex basically imprints on Izzie. I love that he loves her the whole time. But heâs willing to step back. He may get jealous and resentful and petty and scared and mean. But those are natural human emotions, Izzie gets them too, and theyâre fundamental to his character and through those things he learns and grows. Izzie doesnât make him. She entices him. Yeah, often directs him, especially at first. But at some point heâs growing on his own, in fits and starts, in reaction to his own emotions.
For example, when Izzie tells him she slept with George, he gets pissed, but also admits why pretty readily. And he tells her the truth, remarkably straightforwards. He reaches out to her a lot. And she turns him aside a lot. And he keeps loving. Even if romance is off the table. He runs after her a lot. Sits next to her when sheâs upset a lot. Is understanding a lot. Heâs different with her, and look Iâm a fangirl, itâs a trope, I swallow bait line and hook. Which should be bait hook and line if my vague understanding of fishing is correct. I fished once, with safety implements, and still cried even as they removed the fish and popped it back into the water. (Okay I just reread to sort out where Iâd gotten too and itâs hook line and sinker. Statistically someone will probably read this someday, you have my full permission to laugh at me. Anyway...)
The quintessential moment, the revved to 100, of course being when Izzie is clinging to a dead Denny. Theyâre all standing around. No one even looks surprised with jilted Alex talks to her. In a really caring way. And this is still fairly early on, wasnât watching anything but their scenes but this had to be rare sight eh? (Mebbe?) And then he picks her up and sits down holding her and she clings and cries and like symbolism and could essay that but not going to right now because the broad relevant stroke is that Alex loves Izzie selflessly. And this is the pinpoint core of why I can buy his ending, because he canât NOT love Izzie. I donât think he even wants to stop. Though he can set it down in his heart and let her go and doesnât pine. But he never stops loving her and itâs so many kinds of love imperfectly yet perfecly forged.
Forged. But also born. Stars uncrossed. I have emotions without words and if I try Iâll never get out of it to move on, so moving on.
(Oh, George telling Alex to talk to Izzie because she wonât talk to him about whatever it was. Isnât is crazy that Izzieâs emotional squishy bestie goes to the emotionally stunted bad boy to help her because... itâs an understanding of the two-way Izzie/Alex bond, but also this crazy trust that Alex will show up.)
I love that Izzie isnât blind to his faults, truly doesnât like his faults, but has eternal faith for who he is and can be. She always saw him as someone with walls, once she stumbled on a lose stone and got a glimpse inside. She knows. She doesnât always understand, but she knows.
Slight divergence from that line of thought, but its a great moment when they get together and heâs fairly transparently trying to make sure theyâre in a committed relationship by dangling other women in front of her, and sheâs a little ticked that he seems to be taking it rudely casually. Probably a bit of insecurity, but Iâd say more that she has a long history of not reading him from the perspective of him loving her. Ie, 100% not recognizing that telling him about sleeping with George would hurt him. And doesnât get it until he comes in and heâs dropped the swagger and itâs a âI know Iâm doing something wrong and I donât know how to do it right so help meâ thing. Â
(Random memories of Sloan/Don from The Newsroom when sheâs crying on the floor and Don comes in a sits next to her. I wuvs them too.)
I love that she openly leans on him, when he offers support she takes it. She doesnât ask why, she accepts it and leans into it and is open to it because she trusts him because she knows him. The bits where she hates him tend to fall out of romantic issues, but when thatâs removed from the equation theyâre in sync. And the thing is, just as caring is fundamental to Alexâs nature, trust is fundamental to Izzieâs. And those two things weave into each other. Kinda like rats and the food button. When Alex reaches out Izzie she honestly accepts it, a âreward.â So heâs comfortable doing it again, and again. And when she does rebuff him heâs seen rewards come out enough that he doesnât just scatter. And when Izzie trusts him, he rewards her with gentleness and care. She has the rougher time of it overall, because Alex is more screwed up emotionally, and breaks her trust more often than she rebuffs him, but thatâs where Alexâs constant love comes in. But I cannot recall enough critical moments to have a cohesive proof, so I could be a little off base.
In my head Alex has always loved Izzie more than Izzie loves him, but I think my memory was unfair. There is a real constancy to Izzieâs affection, though I donât think she imprinted on Alex as he did on her. Sheâs a different person, loves differently, has different issues. But my longstanding impression is mostly because of Denny. Who she truly did love, though the qualities of that love deserve exploration which I will not at this time attempt. And Denny loved her.  The whole âside loves along the wayâ being a trope. Though usually âit ended in death/deathlike stateâ is given to the man and so THANK YOU SHONDA. Thinking of classics like Jane Eyre and Rebecca though I think both were actually crazypants first wives. And I do think female characterâs side guys have a habit of dying, but it tends to feel more like a plot point to shut the door on continued love, whereas Denny remains a part of Izzieâs life.Â
At any rate, despite superficial similarities, Alex doesnât hit the trope because his crazypants relationship wasnât ever really about the woman: yep Alex got Rebecca, and Rebecca was crazypants, and it was a plot point to get him to the crying. Rebecca wasnât love. It was never love. BUT
She DID, in every way, highlight what needed to be highlighted. 1) That he desperately wants a family. 2) that caring for someone, not just about them, is fundamental to him, (and ties neatly into him caring for Izzie all those sitting on the floor conversations.) and c) itâs not entirely healthy. Which is ALSO why thrusting his new happy relationship with Izzie into caregiver role is insensitive and undermines the relationship because it only makes sense if we got to see them both happy in the relationship first. And then we can see the quality of his caregiving change. But we didnât. So bugger it.
I do LOVE how they let almost the whole next season play out he fallout of all that. Something taken slowly! We got to explore it. Did feel a bit drawn out tbh. But it just emphasizes the weight of it, I guess. Especially as it was a subplot amongst 100 others. This was their development for the season. Which was mostly Alex. But Izzieâs reactions revealed some things about her as well. Majorly dancing around laying it out for a close look and I donât know why.
Favourite moment? Maybe Izzie putting her hand on Alexâs chest when heâs freaking out and telling him to stop, he doesnât need to say any more. Because heâs trying to convince her of something, and she understands. And the trying to convince is shredding him, and she knows that. Itâs a very loving and accepting âstop.â Sheâd already taken charge of the situation, for the good of the patient. Sheâd already taken charge because she knew Alex couldnât handle it, he was too deep in something to see clearly. And sheâs still in charge. She doesnât break down and cry for him, or try to comfort him, heâs been thrown back into childhood and PTSD might literally be at play and what he needs, and she understands, is someone he can trust, whoâs calm and gentle but strong and solid, to say itâs okay. Itâs going to be okay. You donât have to carry this on your own. We have it now. Because when weâre little and in over our heads what we want and what we need is an adult to take the burden. And still the physical contact is comforting, her tone of voice reassuring. She creates a space where he can feel safe and heard.
Ugh, rewatching, and weâre watching him literally devolve. Stages of grief yaâll. Heâs using every tactic to try and get what he thinks he needs: being able to take care of Rebecca. Heâs in denial that anything is wrong. He gets angry when Izzie grabs him, to the point of threatening to hit her (though itâs fighting words and not real threat, and Izzie totally knows that.) He dives into bargaining. Sheâll be okay if he can take care of her. He can do it. He tries to convince her itâs true.
By the time he gets home itâs depression. Not just Rebecca, but about his mom. And Izzie approaches him differently. In the hospital it was immediate and she was âin charge,â and needed to be in all facets, but at home, with the situation taken care of, sheâs a friend. An equal. Which is what he needs right now. His sticking point later is the crying, so I kinda wonder how heâd react just to having told her about taking care of his mom as a kid. Right at the start he told that kid about his dad, (dad beating up his mom and him beating up his dad) while Izzie was within listening distance and didnât seem fussed. But itâs ultimately a story about him being manly and protecting his mom physically. Which would be why itâs several seasons in before this crops up - waaay more intimate information. Probably all lumped into one, with the crying as shorthand. And mostly that his past is a fact, itâs his emotions he wants to keep private and deny.
He clearly did try to drown his emotions with sex. Iâm not sure it would have worked with a random girl because heâs way too close to crying to do much of anything. And obviously doesnât work with Izzie because sex is apparently emotional intimacy and I guess comfort for men moreso than women, but it plays out as a desperate attempt to get comfort in a safer way. Bargaining again, I suppose.  âHave sex and will be fine tomorrow.â But, as noted, he doesnât get that far because itâs too heavy and he rather quickly is just sobbing.
Which is a lovely parallel to holding Izzie while she cried on him after Denny died. Though Izzie had no qualms and no massive emotional recoil because emotions and vulnerability are normalized for females Izzie is a particularly emotional person. And an inverse of all the times Izzie is an emotional wreck and Alex sits down besides her and offers her support and understanding.
Could also argue that Izzie just saying âIâm sorry... About Rebecca. And your momâ - itâs an emotionally intimate moment. Of understanding. Sheâs acknowledging the two situations, and isnât trying to do anything about them, explain or push or anything else. Just make him feel understood and not alone and sex is the way he can respond to that. How to process that in a way that feels manly to him? Also notably Izzie does seem to be going with it, and itâs aborted because he starts sobbing. And is still saying âPleaseâ which is amazing, because he totally was never asking Izzie to just sleep with him. He wants to make it stop - the pain, emotions, probably reliving memories. But also... stages of grief. He needs to feel it, so he can accept it. He really just needs to cry, and grieve, and not be alone.
And itâs like... this is where their love story feels epic because it would look so different if they didnât have all the levels and layers of love. Take out the romantic/sexual aspect. Take out the friendship. The trust. The family. Take out anything and this canât play out.
Who didnât love moments like Alex explaining to Bernedette Peters that men sometimes need to protect their manliness in the eyes of the woman they love. And theyâll do shit things to protect that manliness, but itâs because they care. Which is obviously idiotic and while romantic on screen is very much not so in real life, but this is fiction so hey ho. Itâs such a wonderful foil. Because the situation here was not that Alex took his pain elsewhere to protect Izzieâs opinion, but that Alex completely and for a long time shut Izzie out to protect his manliness, which is entirely counterproductive but the only option he could see. He minimizes his experience as a âbad night.â  (I mean, if you remove all the adjectives, heâs not wrong.) Heâs protecting his own sense of manliness to himself. He doesnât like feeling that vulnerable. He let Izzie get too close. Heâs afraid. Itâs all a tangle. And it pays off when they come back together and heâs willing to be more vulnerable, almost, and then enthusiastically, happy to be.
*But it does reference when he slept with Olivia when he failed his boards. So yeah, heâs done it literally too.
Backing up a step to revisit season 5. And actually they start out close. Theyâre all out in the cold waiting to greet patients and Alex grabs a blanket for her. Heâs not irritated that Izzie keeps asking how heâs doing, just obviously in a bit of personal denial. And theyâre totally messing around and lighthearted and look at each other with their heads really close and it begs some questions about the interim, though I guess they just havenât talked about it deeper than âare you okay.â And per the Izzie/Meredith convo I guess they didnât continue having sex (probably didnât have sex that night either).  Though the way Izzie looks at him as he leaves, sheâs totally concerned that heâs not dealing with it.
Ah yes, forgot - so they just kept his breakdown unremarked upon, the superficial checking in is situational because Rebecca is a fact. They donât talk about it, itâs fine. Pretending it did not happen. But itâs as soon as Alex thinks Izzie told Meredith about it that it goes pear shaped. Itâs funny that his issue is the crying and heâs the one that told Meredith, but thematically Izzie saying âheâs opening up to meâ is sorta the same. Also awww that even as she labels them friends, thereâs this little glow inside her that they got closer. Emotional intimacy, whatâs life without it eh?
So also 100% itâs high on Alexâs mind. That he did it, and so too that Izzie could betray him and tell others. Their relationship is so beautifully fragile in that short interim. Itâs this little bubble where heâs okay that he was vulnerable with Izzie because she accepted it and isnât making a big deal about it. And he does feel super close to her. But he canât take anyone else seeing him in a non-manly light. For himself, and it works in terms of Izzie too if itâs an inside/outside situation. Iâm a bit stuck and going in circles. If Izzie tells, then Izzie isnât taking it seriously? Doesnât understand him? I donât think heâs even angry at her, if he looks weak to others then sheâll come to see him as weak? Halp, stuck.
Also so, Iâve seen it remarked upon that Izzie tends to forgive Alex when she maybe shouldnât. But part of forgiveness can come from understanding the other person. Doesnât have to be, especially for little stuff. But for big stuff?
Oh, and so weird but kinda cool that right after that rather self-aware conversation with Peters, he specifically lets Izzy see him with another woman. Were those scenes meant to be inverted? Or is he going into this eyes wide open? Trying to prove something? Heâs hurting her though, is it intentional? Because cheating, by nature, is secretive, your person doesnât know so youâre not hurting them directly, though of course when they find out it blows up. But the intention to wound is not there, itâs an escape. Proving that heâs really fine and back to his old self? They are not sleeping together so this isnât cheating.
And even after that Izzy just shrugged it off. Popped in to tell him they maybe are getting kicked out, tries to get an apartment with him. Sheâs holding on to their closeness and friendship, despite him being prickly. And then... he smacks her or whatever they were doing which is back to flirty, and not meaningful but notably guides her out of the elevator before him. Though her barb about STD did hit him.  Maybe he was trying to figure out how to stop being rude at her, and her continued friendliness was bufffer space until he could? He does say hello at the end, but who was she talking to about having no one?
It does bring up an interesting insight. It is true bout not something I thought about, that Izzie could be lonely, and actually does get as much out of their relationship as Alex ever did. They are incredibly close. And I think George might be married at this point, and thus no longer her âpersonâ?
And then into the cryptic speak about them, while the father/son organ musical chair thing was happening. Heâs looking over his shoulder at her, glances up, unspoken words yadda yadda. Follows her out into the hall when she leaves. The freeze out is shorter than I remember, but look, they kinda always keep communicating because freeze outs do not feel right. And Iâve moved to a blow by blow but Alex is trying to talk profession, and Izzie doublespeaks the âemotionally stuntedâ and he physically recoils and stutters like âyeah but no, thatâs not what weâre talking aboutâ and yet is now there and talking about them too.  âOkay, ... Iâm trying to be- I am, but thisâ WHAT is he trying to be/is??? Trying to not be emotionally stunted. Is emotionally stunted (or doubling down on trying?)
This is just such a beautiful conversation. Because Izzie IS emotional and caring but she has a mean backhand. Pettiness, ultimatum, she can smack back as hard as anyone smacks her. And sheâs coming from a totally reasonable place, because heâs going hot and cold on her. And you can see that it affects him, and that falls out from that same pattern where heâs trying to tell her somehing and sheâs not putting in a ton of effort to figure out what heâs saying, but is focused on her own needs and thoughts.  âCuz sheâs hearing something like âgive it up, youâre not going to get what you want out of me.â And heâs trying to say âIâm afraid I canât be what you need, because I svck, please donât make me try and fail.â
And theyâre convo through parallels continues, Izzie calls Alex broken and is like âokay I do it your way my caring for you is pointless and itâs all fine.â  Dad calls for son while kinda dying.  I know they claimed different thought process but didnât Alex call for Izzie when he was shot? And the payout from the series of exchanges: Alex is yelling at his standin to just step up and show he cares. With a hefty does of potential regret. Itâs a 180, hoping that the kid does love his day, as well as getting emotionally invested. His relationship with his father isnât mentioned, not sure if itâs meant to play into this, because he has previously acknowledged that he regrets losing his father completely.
(But then 10 seconds later sheâs going to go crazy and by avoiding treatment itâs kinda like trying to kill herself and just... poor taste writers, poor taste.)
Cue a moment where Izzie knows what heâs trying to say and rewards it.
Enter Izzie being a little obtuse, I know I covered this but ending my personal cannon with them getting together - Alex literally says âare we going steady.â Heâs literally saying âyou tell me yes or no, and I will do that.â Of course heâs trying to say âI donât know if youâre serious and I want to be please clarify and reassureâ but one of those literal ones should have been enough. But then Izzie does always push him, not always intentionally, to be a little more direct, a little more vulnerable, trust her a little more. And the result is sooooo adorable!
And brings to mind when Izzie was trying to ask him out for the first time. And it went a tiny bit screwy and Alex flips it and asks her out.
Thereâs just so much awesome. *sobs* And thereâs probably awesome in the cancer storyline too but I do not feel I can trust it and also itâs going to run full into Izzie being lame and leaving and all character development out the window? And I DO NOT want to see her trying to come back and Alex saying No. Because what will I see in the middle that gets them there? They always say yes. Eventually. And season 16 when JC is leaving the show is a bit on the long side, even if I ignore the details of the intervening years.
Throwing everything at the wall and maybe Iâll be done with dumping or can at least refine things. Itâs the little speech Iâve only read and donât want to hear bcause not sure how he did his line-read, but when he describes how he imagines Izzieâs life. In how much detail, how much he wants for her, what he knows sheâs capable of building. Heâs saying it to Jo and Iâm uncomfortable with the idea he loves her, even if the letter to her does leak a âlove you, in love with Izzie,â and Iâm fine with Izzie loving Denny and donât find it a problem Jo is still alive because I donât see Alex going back but the thing where if he looks her in the eye he wonât return to Izzie and the kids is upsetting. And itâs just the kids and insta-family which is enticing. I mean, heâs not going to tell wife heâs leaving that heâs always loved his ex in a different way or anything. But heâs also not lying. He does mention to Meredith that he canât go back to Seattle. Heâd stay with Jo then out of... ? Halp. The best I got is heâs currently in a dream and if he goes back to his life, where he was happy, then heâll lose the dream and it will disappear on him?
Slightly nicer is the elsewhere expressed (Meredith) idea that heâd set Izzie as unreachable. Thus, in line with what he told Jo, he didnât want to contact her because he didnât want to make it worse for himself, and his happiness comparison was completely excluding himself from the possibility of being part of Izzieâs life. Itâs all happiness of them individually, not together. But yes, he always wanted to reach out, wanted to hear her voice and he never had an excuse? No excuse but curiousity, and that wasnât enough to take a chance, but this was an excuse and he took it. Â
And the idea that he knows the right thing is to stay in Seattle, and being with Izzie and the kids is crazy, but itâs what makes him happiest, where he belongs. Meredithâs letter read first, so in that light, heâs overexplaining to Jo. Also exposition. References that conversation about his mental picture of Izzie, which I think was in the context of Jo questioning his feelings for Izzie. It scared him because... ? He focuses on the kids. Itâs a little at odds with doing this for him, and a little suddenly ignoring the fact that heâs In Love with Izzie and I guess his mental image for Izzie was also his dream life and he gave it to her. Though where he thought her kids came from is possibly an oversight. Adoption?
Because it makes it sound like heâs torn between new and old love but the old love has is kids and wins. Itâs a free pass to perfection. But he imagined a âwhole lifeâ for her, which is a massive investment opf time and emotional energy on someone he hasnât seen in forever. I mean thinking well for an ex is al well and good but this sounds a bit beyond that, where sheâs not a part of his life but a part of HIS life, believing sheâs okay makes everything okay.
I am also willing to take up arms and claim that âI canât look you in the eye because I wouldt be able to walk away...â doesnât mean walk away from Jo, but walk away from Izzie. But thatâs kinda tenuous. It just... it sounds like if he sees Jo he wonât be able to leave her, which puts her above Izzie (and even the kids, though he can still be in their lives) and that contradicts other statements, or at least their implications .
Though fair point that thereâs a metric of who youâll give up everything for. Izzie would for Denny. In a sense, I hear Meredith got her back in the Seattle hospital and she declined out of respect for Alexâs feelings. So in a way she gave up her life for Alex. And never reached out to him but did respond when he did. She picked up the phone. Maybe not knowing who it was, or they all kept their own phones. And Alex gave it all up for Izzie+kids. I want to know heâd give it all up for Izzie alone, and the life they could have had.
Or is it that he wouldnât be able to leave Jo because, as noted to Meredith, itâs the right thing to stay in Seattle. And heâs become a man who does the right thing. And sometimes the right thing isnât what we truly want, and to get that we have to be selfish. He one perfect thing is in Kansas. And itâs the family. Itâs a family with Izzie. And his kids. Itâs the whole package. If it wasnât Izzie, the kids wouldnât be enough? Also indicates that even with Jo was not exactly where he should be.
Iâm also going with âsome clues in various directions to satisfy various viewers but really offending most of them because this is all 10 years ago and people are newer viewers or forgot or hated Izzie when she left etc.â But preponderance of evidence leans in favour of this choosing what makes him happiest over what makes him happy. Â
ETA: he has a life for Izzie in his head because if sheâs not happy, he canât leave her where she is. He sees her as an optimist, the opposite of him and good things happen when you lean in that direction. He imagines her somewhere woody because thatâs where they lived when they were married.
ETA2: Izzie didnât notice Alex wanted to be exclusive. Because Izzie sees the good in him, but she doesnât try to justify or explain things. She takes him at face value (mostly, she knows superficial crabbiness is just an unpleasant personality trait.) Until/unless she has very good evidence to he contrary. And THAT is why he has to take an active role and go to her. He does have to work for the relationship.
(Briefly skipped to a scene in season 6 (avoiding that season) and he actually says âI canât be your nurseâ which is so much character growth. Because I was afraid heâd gone full out into caregiver mode, which is not healthy for either of them. Heâs protecting himself, but also pushing her to face up.)
CODAS
Watched Alex calling for/hallucinating Izzie when shot. Maybe itâs a Miranda thing? After freaking out right after she died, about how he canât live without her, his breakup speech was essentially about how he realized he could survive without her. He doesnât need her like that. And he was really hurt by the really shitty thing she did, leaving him. Thus valid conclusion that they should part ways and heâs not caught in the love/hate. But at some point after that, per hallucination conversation, he really wants her to... come back for him. To love him enough to not be able to stay away and come back for him itâs funny because the best way for her to love him was the respect his wishes and not come back. I mean she doesnât even say anything after he asks that. Â
Interesting point âwe married...â Itâs a promise. He starts with âIâm sorry.â His breakup speech to her - rehearsed? Heâs speaking from love and hate all blended and I think heâs a lot more honest and self aware, and heâs almost always been honest with Izzie. So his dying speech was also fear based? Heâs scared, heâs in shock, like, physical shock. To when is his mind taking him? Itâs natural to have regrets after a painful but necessary breakup. Itâs been months but thatâs still recent enough. So on the whole, inconclusive except yeah, he isnât over her, but he admits during their breakup that he loves her âso much.â
Also love his âfrozen together in time... and now weâre not.â Theyâve both grown and changed, and so has their relationship, but there connection hasnât. That hasnât changed. Â
So back to his Izzie speech, which is meaningful intentionally as in 300th episode, where years later he was wondering still about her, enough to create a good life for her. A happy, rich and full life. He imagines it clearly and deeply enough to add smell to it. Smell is heavily linked to memory and emotion.
As happy as he is with Jo. Maybe itâs contentment? Something missing for each of them but not something he consciously knows? Meh. Back to frozen. He has an image, a full rich image of her and her life. Itâs immersive but static, a snapshot. And the him who looks at that snapshot is the same him over time. Â
Letter to Meredith.  âItâs about me.â Which is sorta back to breakup speech. It was about him, ending the relationship. He didnât deserve to be left. And this is about him, not leaving Izzie+kids. Thereâs movement and beauty in this.
Meredith/Alex talking true love. So Iâm torn. Jo refused his proposal, and the question is if you only get one true love. Did he think Jo was a true love, and if she refuses him itâs not? Or is he hoping that true love happens after theyâre married? Given the constancy of his love for Izzie, from fairly early on, even if he didnât call it that at the time Iâm pretty sure itâs indisputedly much earlier than marriage, and she turned him down all the time, which would forestall true love worse, right? Canât say as Iâm not watching any Jo/Alex, cannot will not no need donât gotta.
#alex x izzie#grey's anatomy#brain dump#meta#why couldn't i just leave well enough alone#and mess around with a vignette for funsies and a writing exercise#and not actually look at canon#because now i have feels#and am confused#and there are barriers to my feels#but it's okay i will live in my own little AU#and remember and know more than i did#given it was many many many years ago#i mean over 13#right after season 4 started#izzex

To be happy
Please note: not necessarily in that order
It was taped above my desk, waiting for me to bring it in to the next session. I hesitated to write number 6. It was a dream I hardly entertained after committing my scholarly life to pursue medicine. I used to love to doodle. All the time. Since elementary school. I doodled so much my mom dedicated a wall in the house to my illustrations. She hung a sign above it that affectionately said âY/Nâs Doodles.â Seriously, you couldnât get me to stop. Even if it was gross sappy sketches of my crush Billy who I would NEVER show on the playground at recess.  Â
My doodling stopped how these things normally do. Because life grew busier than anything else, and the sketchpad and easel my dad had bought for me at a garage sale became ignored, collecting dust in the corner of my room. At some point, itâd become a year since Iâd drawn anything, and then it was two, and three, and by this point Iâd realized I was the one whoâd need to create her own stability in life and medicine was the more logical fit. It wasnât that I didnât see the value in drawing anymore, I just had other things take up my time. It became a comfort just knowing I used to draw. Paul had paved his way, and now I was on my way to do the same. At least with medicine, my soul felt fed. It was almost comfort enough.Â
âoH WE GOT A ROGUE ONE.âÂ
A flying toenail hit my eye.Â
âWHAT THE-â I flailed my arms, as though there were a thousand more coming. Rennyâs mouth opened in shock, her guilty body hunched over her bent leg. Clippers in hand. Â
 âSorry!!â Renny burst up laughing.
âoH MY GOSH CAN YOU DO THAT OVER A TRASH CAN OR SOMETHING?!âÂ
âIT HAD A MIND OF ITS OWN!!â she screamed back.Â
I blinked rapidly, my left eye watering up and spilling painless tears. âWell Iâm going to have conjunctivitis at the studio later. Or Iâll be stumbling in blind.â I wiped it away.
I heard another clip and she put up her hands with another giggle.Â
âAll done. And you wonât stumble, Iâm going to be there.â Renny extended her leg, her perfectly trimmed foot nearly touching the ceiling.
âYouâre just going to solicit Zayn to be his next subject.âÂ
âMaybe,â her grin grew devious. âBut also because I want to see if he captured the angelic beauty and complex nymph nuances of my best friend.âÂ
I put a hand to my chest, still aching from uncertainty. âHonored.âÂ
âWant to watch another episode until itâs time to go?âÂ
This whole lazy morning had been an OC Housewives bingefest. Sheâd seen it on my homepage and had a complete spazz, twitching whilst proclaiming but iâve been trying to get you to watch this show for YEARS!! When she saw the old season I was on, though, she didnât have to question why her pestering had miraculously worked. She didnât mention him aloud besides giving me a pointed look. And so, we watched it, even though I wasnât really in the mood to see anything about Harry right now. Itâd hurt more than I thought to walk away from him last night, and to see how sad he looked when I did.Â
After last night, he hadnât posted anything to social media. Heâd called, twice, but I knew he was drunk, or worse, and I was tired, and whatever he would say he could tell me in the morning. Even though I knew he wouldnât.Â
 And he didnât.Â
 And therein lay the problem.Â
It hurt to see his family on my little box of a computer screen, weird to see his life and get glimpses of his childhood. I felt like a hacker spying on home videos. But then I reminded myself that thousands of people had already done the same. At this point, it was just⊠morbid curiosity.
âNah, I donât know if I can handle any more of that right now. Dr. Rhinecuff is going to yell at me if I donât return these scanned copies to him by Monday.âÂ
 âEw, he smells like meat.âÂ
 âRENNY!!âÂ
âIâm just saying. That one time I went with you it smelled like pastrami in his office. He has a PhD, but isnât with-it enough to buy air freshener.â
âHe likes pastrami sandwiches, let him live.âÂ
She scrolled on her phone, not bothering to respond, and my gaze turned to the window.Â
 âHey Renny?âÂ
 âHm.âÂ
A bird flew close to the glass, halting just before it hit it, then zooming off in the opposite direction. âWhatâd you do when your parents were fighting?âÂ
âUmmmâŠâ I knew the question registered in her mind when she stopped scrolling, suddenly concerned. âAre your parents okay?â
âYeah. I mean, kind of.â I glossed over it, not caring to get into the bitter details. âI was just curious.âÂ
âUhh..â She plucked at the soft cotton of her cotton candy pajamas that were fraying at the knees. âI lost my virginity to Zach,â she half-laughed.  Â
 âZach? Neighbor boy Zach?âÂ
Renny nodded. She always sounded a little sad when she talked about him. Zach was the hot college boy who shared a backyard fence with Renny, the girl who may or may not have used her kitchen stool to peak over and see him workout on the grass every summer he came home. Iâd known theyâd slept together. I just didnât think he was her first.Â
âI just tried to be out of the house as much as I could,â she said. âFound my true love Mary J.âÂ
 âOh.âÂ
âIt was shitty, but Iâm glad I got it over with.â
 âThe divorce or your virginity.âÂ
âBoth,â she chortled. âWhy whatâs up? Are you sad or something? I have a j in my drawer.âÂ
âNo, no, Iâm fine.â Mostly I was just wondering what it must be like to feel so sexually liberated. In my house sex wasnât talked about. At all. The inevitable sex scene in every other movie would result in my dad blaring out âWHAT KIND OF MOVIE IS THIS!â in an attempt to make it less awwkard, but having it backfire and only make it horrendously more awkward. I wasnât saving my virginity for anyone in particular, but after all those romance novels, I wanted it to be⊠something. I wanted to feel something towards the person where it would justify something Iâve kept to myself for so long. I wanted it to be intense. I wanted it to be like the books. Like a Frank Sinatra song that swept up your heart and transported you back to a time of gentlemen and cigars and women in long evening gowns with fur coats and martinis.Â
âI wish I could just get it over with,â I confessed. One half of me screamed YOUâRE IN YOUR TWENTIES HAVE ALL THE SEX while the other half said YOUâVE WAITED THIS LONG DAMN IT HOLD OUT A LITTLE LONGER. I didnât know which part of me was compromising more.Â
Renny leaned in, quick. âWould you do it with Harry?âÂ
Like the flip of a switch, I remembered the sensuous heat of his body against mine, wrapping me up and pressing me against him where we just fit. And I couldnât imagine how much better itâd feel to be even more connected to him.Â
 âMaybeeeeâŠ?âÂ
But then there was last night.Â
I cringed. No matter how with me heâd seemed⊠he couldnât have been present after mixing whatever the hell he took and a handle of alcohol. Did I really want someone like that? Someone who could only give a shell of themselves?Â
âNo, I wouldnât. Or- ugh, I donât know. I donât know if it could ever mean as much to him.âÂ
Renny nodded. âI mean, donât let him pressure you, obviously. If he does, Iâll kick his baby maker smack into his prostate. Prostate. See, anatomy. You taught me that.âÂ
âHaha, no, heâs not like that.â My brows stitched. I was confused why he wasnât more like that, actually. Weâd known each other for several months now and he hadnât even put a finger in me. When I thought about it, it actually frustrated me. Donât pressure me to do anything, but I wanted to be pushed to do something. I was never the bold one in areas like this.Â
Not that I should be so willing to do anything with him anymore anyways. Something shifted in me when Iâd seen him last night. It wasnât a shift I could easily describe, but itâd set me a foot apart from my heart. A bit of me was shocked that it had happened so suddenly.Â
But this shift was new, and my heart still wanted what it wanted. I knew that if I watched any more OC Housewives with Harryâs toddler curls and surfer tan, Iâd be sucked right back into speculating about what our future kids could look like. And if I saw him?Â
You were right, Harry. You are fucked.Â
I cringed again. That was harsh. That was very very harsh.Â
I didnât know if Iâd have the courage to apologize. What if my pheromones went berserk and magnetized me to his side??
 Renny was right.
 I needed therapy.Â
The clippers were tossed back on my desk.
âThanks,â she said. âHave you started on your DG Double P yet?âÂ
DG Double P = Renny Speak for DG Pretty Please.Â
I groaned. âNo. I donât know how Iâm going to do it, honestly. I have to-â
âNO!!! Donât tell me. Weâre not supposed to tell each other.â Her hand extended in panic.
 âFine. I can keep a secret.âÂ
I was getting a little too good at that lately.
She moved onto her belly, splaying her arms out in a dramatic fashion, face squished against the comforter. âIsnât it just killing you inside.â She was dead serious.Â
 âYeah, more than you know.âÂ
 And I was serious, too.Â
 --------------------------------------
I wasnât expecting people to dress up as much as they did. Donned in my only pair of yoga pants and a chunky white sweater, I walked arm-in-arm with Renny past girls in cocktail dresses and guys in button-downs.Â
Something that sounded like a babyâs cry filled my ears, but it was gone as soon as we walked through the doors to the on-campus gallery. .Â
 âWoah did you hear that?âÂ
Renny nodded, tossing her head back. âThereâs a baby somewhere.âÂ
It reminded me of the bodiless screams in my nightmare. In my chunky sweater, I shivered undetectably.
The on-campus gallery rotated exhibits throughout the year, but this time, student sculptures were on pedestals, nightmarish portraits hung on the walls, and red and orange tapestries swooped down and across the ceiling in a cirque-du-soleil moment as if to secure us beneath fire. Some students had separate booths, but other pieces of work trailed seamlessly into the next.Â
A tree made from photographs and newspaper took up the center of the space. Zayn had been so adamant about his muse having life, I wondered if that was the focus of this exhibit - to capture natural life. But I suppose all art did.Â
âItâs the circle of life exhibit,â Renny stated, as if reading my thoughts.Â
 âHowâd you know that?âÂ
She held up a pamphlet she mustâve grabbed from the entrance.Â
I quickly scanned the room, hoping to find Zayn quickly so I could skip out just as quick.Â
Several of my professors were here, including Dr. Rhinecuff. When he saw me, I raised my hand, but he raised his cup of red wine awkwardly and looked away.Â
 My hand wavered.Â
 Odd.Â
Zayn was standing by the tree, speaking with an older woman. Her skin was a rich brown, short hair hidden beneath a chic scarf. The man beside her looked around the same age with graying facial hair, a pocket hanky, and beaded bracelets. Art professors.Â
I caught his gaze, and he gestured me over.Â
âY/N, these are my instructors. David and Ebony.â  Â
Their eyes lit up in recognition. âHe did you a great justice,â David said, gray moustache twitching with the words.
Ebony beamed. âOh yes, a piece was already sold. Heâs going to be the next big wig before he graduates,â she gushed. âZayn, Iâm sure youâll be splitting the profits with the heart of the piece.â
She gestured to me and his smile widened, but my stomach sank faster.Â
âI didnât know these pieces were going to be sold.â
Ebony sensed my concern. The wine in her glass swirled. âWe thought allowing the pieces to be shown and auctioned was a good way to replicate what many of them should be doing once they graduate. The whole department gets involved, and these kids put in a lot of work, and the reputation of starving artists isnât something we want to buy into here.â
I nodded. âI mean, thatâs great. Thatâs⊠really amazing.âÂ
Zayn couldnât meet my eyes. He knew. He could sense my hesitance, too.Â
âNow he can finally afford a nice dinner to take you out!â David proclaimed.Â
We were all quiet for a minute. âYou know, for a thank you dinner,â David covered up. Zaynâs brows scrunched and he shook his head a bit, not knowing where Davidâs comment came from.Â
âDo you do this regularly?â Ebony asked, steering the conversation away from an awkward moment.Â
My ears pricked up when I realized she was looking at me. âExcuse me?âÂ
âWell I was just thinkingâŠâ a light laugh lifted as if her idea would be outrageous. âWould you mind sitting in for one of my classes on Monday? Our model had a sudden death-âÂ
 âMy God,â David proclaimed.Â
Ebony waved her hand. â-in his family. I havenât called to replace him yet.â
It quieted as they looked at me, waiting for a response. âOh, I donât⊠I donât usually do this. At all. It was a chance thing.âÂ
âLuck be the artist.â David raised his glass.Â
Ebony followed suit, looking at my empty hand. âYou just going to let her stand there without a drink?â
âYeah, Zayn. What kind of treatment is this?â I teased.Â
He did a slight bow. âApologies. Weâll walk to drinks, immediately.â He pulled us away, leading us further into the showroom as his head dipped low to my ear. âRenny just passed us to meet Felix and them. Theyâre through here.âÂ
We stepped under an archway that led into a darker-lit room, but his hand stopped me beneath the nook. âDid yeh notice anything?â
Yeah. I was noticing how close we were in this archway. He saw my eyes start to squint in thought and he turned me around to face the room weâd just left.Â
 âLook closer.âÂ
My eyes roamed the crowd, trying to find some sort of person, or pattern he could be referring to. With a brief seize of my heart, I expected to see somebody from the gang.Â
âLook at the artwork, Y/N.â His breath warmed my skin.Â
The paintings all seemed to be bright, though sticking to red, orange, blacks, and grays. Wait, forget a pallette pattern. The next painting had blue and purple, too. One sculpture looked like a writhing ghost, twisting and reaching for something above. Or maybe it was an unearthed tree root. Despite all the bold colors, there was something off-putting about how bright they all were. It wasnât a soothing brightness. It was almost violent. The orange and red writhing tapestries warped the ceiling into something hot.Â
âIs it hell?â I chortled, but quickly quieted. I expected him to take offense, but his hand went lightly around my waist with a small smile.
âCould be. See-â his arm extended out to scan the perimeter â-all this art is supposed to represent death, but challenge the notion of it through color.âÂ
 âHow so?âÂ
âYeh know itâs usually your blacks, and your grays, sâdepressing shit. But weâre born from death. Before life, there was nothing, but something. Itâs bold and necessary and there, and no one really knows whatever comes before. Or after.â He looked at the room, taking a sip of wine. I watched as he swallowed, and I imagined the wine running down. âWhat is death but an uncertain existence.â He said the thought almost happily, looking at me with a slight smirk. âCould be anythinâ.âÂ
He took a deep breath, letting his hand touch the top of the archway. It was then that I noticed it wasnât just plain drywall. A collage of photographs ran all along the inside.Â
He wasnât as tall as Harry, but his hand still reached the top, scuffing across a picture of an African landscape taped over a toddler eating fruity pebbles.Â
âTheyâre pictures. Everyone donated one,â he said.Â
A strand of words were painted over the collage, running from one end of the archway to the other, and I tilted my head back to read it. âThings... thatâŠ. make... m..e âŠ...feel alive.âÂ
âEveryone was able to design their space in order to control, to some extent, how their art was perceived. Everyone was a part of the transition space.âÂ
âVery nice,â I noted, slightly put-off. I hadnât been expecting this art show to be so⊠professional. âZayn, this is amazing. Like, really, truly, professional-grade stuff is happening. The presentation, the pieces, everything.â
His smile grew wider, putting cool hands over my eyes. I flinched, but let him.Â
 I felt him come closer.Â
âListen now,â he urged.Â
I listened, but I wasnât sure for what. There was the familiar busy rumble of people mingling, parents visiting their kids, and professors droning on about the talent of their students. But it was chatter. I couldnât make out one conversation over another. I shrugged up against his other hand that was atop my shoulder.Â
âSometimes you need to change where youâre planted to understand.âÂ
I hoped he could see my cross expression because I couldnât tell if he was bullshitting me right now. Itâd been a day. Itâd been a night. And I wasnât in the mood for more philosophical ramblings - especially about death. âI donât know what you mean,â I sighed.Â
âMeaning I have to move you closer to the speakers.â He let out a breathy laugh. âJusâ keep your eyes closed, okay?âÂ
I nodded. His hand moved, tilting my head to its side. Eyes still closed, I became self-conscious imagining people trying to move past me, and here I was, planted, eyes closed in the middle of the archway. My cheeks heated. It was unnerving knowing people could see me when I couldnât see them. And anyway, I mustâve looked ridiculous.Â
âWhat do you hear?â he urged.Â
 âI hear a lot of people talking,â I griped.Â
But right when I was about to open my eyes-Â Â
I heard a familiar chirping through the chatter.Â
 âBirds?â I opened my eyes.Â
âObservance can be taught, sometimes.â Zayn leant back, looking mighty proud of himself.Â
 âWhy are there birds?âÂ
âWeâre entering life,â he smiled, backing into the space. I tipped my wine back, several long gulps lightening my step as I followed him. Immediately, I noticed much more natural, earthier tones. For being a room of life, it was surprisingly darker than the prior room.
Renny, Felix, and Andre were huddled in the center where a makeshift wall-on-wheels covered in vines divided the room in half.Â
My eyes widened, trying to adjust to the dimness. âItâs a lot darker in here.âÂ
âAll intentional. They decided to play with light in here. People usually think of life being bright ân that, but itâs also when we experience varying degrees of darkness. Thereâs a balance to things and the trouble is finding it.â Understanding laced his voice as his dark eyes bore into mine, almost completely black. One look from Zayn and I was reminded of all the weight Iâd been carrying. I fidgeted, uncomfortable seeing myself in his eyes.Â
âY/N, get over here!â Renny called. My shoulders visibly relaxed. My saving grace. âYou didnât tell me you did this,â she said lowly as soon as I got close enough, shocked excitement barely contained. Her giddy smile gave it away though. âMiss sexy secret keeper over here.âÂ
 âWhat do you mean?âÂ
She playfully poked my sides, but Andre and Felix avoided my gaze. Something wasnât right. And it stirred my stomach, my body already knowing, somehow.Â
I turned in slow motion, the charcoal drawings in my peripherals stopping me in place. Framed amidst the vines, my face was etched onto paper, scrunching and twisting in various expressions. But my body was attached and twisting, too. And it was bare, bent over, spread out, laying down⊠My eyes scanned over them a dozen times in a second.Â
 I was naked.Â
 In all of them.Â
One was titled â21st Century Love.â In this one, I faced the viewer, but looked past them, sorrowful eyes, brows furrowed, breasts Iâd never shown on full display. A hickey or two on my neck. A painful sting gripped my chest. I looked sad. I looked so sad. Â
Tunnel vision, a blurred Renny rushed down to the floor, and a distant part of me registered something wet splatter on my feet.Â
 The wine had dropped.
 Iâd dropped it.Â
I was trapped in a shell. My body was numb.Â
âBabes, you okay?â Renny asked, her voice somewhere far away. Somewhere outside the shell, her voice drowned in the busy rumbling, with the birds, with the watchers. People were watching me now. I was being watched. âFelix, grab some towels!â she barked.Â
I looked horrified, towards Zayn, but changed my mind just as fast. I couldnât look at him. I couldnât even breathe.Â
He didnât know me at all. He could stare at me for a thousand sessions and paint every crevice, sunspot, blemish, and mole and still not see me. How was an artist this blind? How could he not know that this was the last thing I could ever want? How could he picture me so⊠intimately?
The paintings seemed to swirl into one before bouncing back out into their separate exposees.Â
 Because thatâs what it was.Â
 An exposure.Â
A stranger could pay to have me in their home.Â
 The floor spun, vision spotting.Â
My lungs tightened, tearing me away from Renny, from Felix, from Andre. From Zayn, the artist who painted a confused girl so unashamed. So honestly. Savagely and Unabashedly.Â
 âI didnât want this.âÂ
And it was when I was halfway out the door that I realized the voice had come from me, a mantra pushing my shell all the way home.Â

New tag game: Post pictures of your first ever (fictional/celeb) crush to the latest one and tag five others to continue the game
Thanks to @minmoyu for tagging me and ooof, are you sure youâre ready for this?!! :D I have been around/in fandom for a loooooong time and at first I thought, okay, no way I can list all my crushes, there have been SO many and weâll be here all day but then as I started compiling a list I found I was having fun reminiscing and decided, what the heck, yeah, letâs do em all... or at least all I can remember! :D
There have absolutely for sure been other more minor crushes and passing fancies along the way, but these are the big ones that I remember (and that, in more recent years, I can track by going through my posted fanfics on AO3 and even *shudder* FFNET and seeing which shows I was into enough to want to write fic about the characters).
[Quick note: with rare exceptions, for actors I am listing them by the character they played rather than just the actor. Whilst there are actors that I like in multiple roles (and conversely, characters who on paper I would normally be into but are played by actors who do nothing for me, and hence the character generally does nothing for me either), for the most part it is the character I really have the crush on.]
Iâm going to put this under a readmore cos it has gotten ridiculously long:
So... without further ado:
1. MORTEN HARKET from a-ha -Â OKay so, dating myself badly here but... I had the *biggest* crush on Morten Harket when I was a teenager. Pretty much the entirety of my side of the bedroom I shared with my sister was covered in posters of a-ha, and Morten in particular. I even had a heart-shaped Morten Harket pillow! :D I loved a-haâs music (still do!) and I wanted to go see them in concert when I was 14 but my parents wouldnât let me (*sob*). I did finally get to see them in concert in the early 2000s and they were BRILLIANT live (and Morten was still very very pretty)!Â
2. RICHARD DEAN ANDERSON as MACGYVER -Â MacGyver is the first tv character I remember being really into and having a crush on, to the extent that I would record episodes of the show off the tv (onto VHS tape - yes, I am *that* old!) so that I could rewatch them (especially the ones where he got hurt - yeah, I was a whumper even then! :D)
3. KEIFER SUTHERLAND - One of my rare exceptions. I think I first saw him in Lost Boys (and loved him in that film) but it was his role as Doc Scurlock in Young Guns that really made me fall for both the character and him. I definitely remember seeking out any and all films he was in and buying any magazine he was interviewed in (and knowing far more facts about him than was probably healthy! :D) and even drawing a fanart portrait of him. :)
4. KYLE MACLACHLAN as SPECIAL AGENT DALE COOPER - I remember hearing about Twin Peaks before it started airing in the UK and it sounded so different and interesting... I watched it from the very first episode and very quickly developed a crush on Coop. Â
5. BRENT SPINER as DATA - I think ST: TNG had been airing for a while before I stumbled across it but I quickly became hooked and Data was my favourite character right from the start. I definitely remember at one point buying an (unofficial) episode guide book so that I could look up which episodes were good Data-focused ones (especially ones where he got hurt! :D) so I could go out and buy the videos that had those episodes on (at the time the show was available to buy on VHS-tape with 2 episodes on each tape).
6. DAVID DUCHOVNY as FOX MULDER - Another show that I heard the buzz about and started watching right from the start and, like so many others, I immediately developed a crush on the snarky, enigmatic, troubled FBI agent with the weird name. The X-Files was the first show I ever tried writing (one, never-finished) fanfic for.
7. PAUL GROSS as BENTON FRASER - Man, Due South was such a good show! It was so quirky and clever and funny and Benton Fraser, with his huge heart and his serious demeanour and his gorgeous blue eyes, was just so darn attractive! He also got whumped a fair bit too! :D Due South was also the show that introduced me to the music of Sarah McLachlan (I was enough of a fan that I bought the show soundtrack on CD).
8. HUGH LAURIE as DR GREGORY HOUSE - This was a bit of an odd one for me because I had grown up knowing Hugh Laurie solely as a comedian/comic actor, known mostly for playing buffoons and genial idiots. And suddenly here he was with stubble, an American accent, and a limp, and he was hawt AF! :D It caused quite the feedback loop in my brain for a while which pretty much went âWow, House is hot.... but itâs Hugh Laurie... but heâs hot... but itâs HUGH LAURIE!!1!â
I *loved* House (the first few seasons, at least) and oof a character with persistent pain (and a self-destructive streak a mile wide!) was a whumperâs dream. House was the first show for which I wrote - and published online - completed fanfics.
8. JOE FLANIGAN as JOHN SHEPPARD - Stargate Atlantis was my first proper online fandom, the first show I prolifically and repeatedly wrote fanfic for, and the first time I ever met in person an actor I was a big fan of (and while the show was still airing, to boot!). It was also my first introduction to the online community of whumpers! A bunch of us from the Shep Whump thread on Gateworld heard that Joe was going to be at a convention in London and we decided to book hotel rooms and meet up and go to the convention together and it was AWESOME! I can still remember seeing Joe *in person* for the first time and just,,,, struggling to believe he was actually here, in person, in front of me! He was super super lovely and humble too and took time to chat to everyone at the signing table and I clearly remember my brain just pretty much fritzing out during the photo session and being intensely aware of the sensation of Joeâs hand on my shoulder....
It was also super lovely to meet fellow fans, and online friends, in person for the first time and we had so much fun, and it kickstarted me going to lots of other conventions, including specific Stargate/SGA ones where I got to know lots of other lovely fans and online friends. Iâve met Joe about 4 or 5 times in total now and heâs been lovely every time.
9. PAUL BLACKTHORNE as HARRY DRESDEN - Gosh I loved the shortlived tv adaptation of The Dresden Files. I loved the fantasy aspect, the stories, the humour, and I especially loved Harry Dresden and how often he got whumped! :DÂ
10. DAVID TENNANT as THE 10TH DOCTOR - I had watched the Christopher Ecclestone revival of Doctor Who and enjoyed it well enough but I can clearly remember watching David Tennantâs first episode as The Doctor - on Christmas Day, at my brother-in-lawâs house - and being aware, as I watched it that... ooookay, yes, Iâm in trouble here... I like him... I like him a lot... :D I mean, Iâm sure the fact that he got whumped so thoroughly in his very first episode had nothing to do with how quickly I fell for him... right? :)
11. ALEX OâLAUGHLIN as MICK ST JOHN - Another show that ended far too soon and just as it was getting *seriously* good. But also a prime example of my point about having a crush on the character not the actor. I looooooved Alex as Mick St John... and yet in Hawaii 5.0 he pretty much does nothing for me (the character is too stoic and the whump often too unrealistically glossed over). Anyway, in Moonlight he was my favourite kind of character - angsty, brooding, dangerous AF when he needed to be... and essentially immortal so you could whump the heck out of him and heâd recover so you could whump him again! :D
12. SIMON BAKER as PATRICK JANE - There is so much to love about Patrick Jane... his smarts, his sass, his angst... and Simon is a rare âagainst typeâ blonde crush for me (you may have noticed by now that most of my crushes follow a similar physical aesthetic - tall, slim/wiry, and dark-haired) and again here I think my crush is almost all to do with the character rather than the actor.
12. BENEDICT CUMBERBATCH as SHERLOCK HOLMES - Iâm almost ashamed to admit it, given the clusterfuck that both the show and its fandom became, but in the earlier seasons I had quite the crush on Benedictâs Sherlock (and okay, a little bit on Benedict himself - I did definitely enjoy some of his other roles too). It helps that I was already a huge fan of the Sherlock Holmes character (Iâve read all the stories and novels multiple times and was a big fan of the Granada adaptation starring Jeremy Brett - whose Holmes would definitely count as one of my more minor/passing crushes) already. Benedict is another crush that I have met in person, at a (actually, the first!) Sherlock convention and he was lovely in person - very genuine, very articulate and thoughtful.
13. TOM MISON as ICHABOD CRANE - I was excited for Sleepy Hollow as soon as I heard about it and I was SUCH a fan for the first couple of seasons (before TPTB completely destroyed it and it inevitably got cancelled (I didnât even watch the last season and a half)) and Tomâs Ichabod (and his amazing chemistry with Nicoleâs Abbie) was a large part of why. I also quickly became a big fan of Tom himself as he came across as so witty and self-deprecating and *fun* in all the behind the scenes/convention clips etc. I was lucky enough to also meet Tom at a convention and he genuinely is that witty and charming and lovely.
14. TOM WISDOM as ARCHANGEL MICHAEL - I think Dominion was possibly the first show that I got sucked into by seeing whumpy gifsets on tumblr! :D It was such a great show and also to date the most immersive, welcoming, cast-and-crew-interactive fandom I have ever been in. The cast and crew regularly live-tweeted the episodes, and interacted with fans on Twitter, and it was SO much fun. And Tomâs Michael was my favourite character right from the start - seemingly aloof but so much going on under the surface... and some really nice whump, especially in season 2! I was heartbroken when it was cancelled after only 2 seasons (and just as the plot was getting *really* interesting).
15. OLIVER JACKSON-COHEN as LUCAS - I was hooked on Emerald City right from the first episode. It was visually stunning, so atmospheric, and really intruiging. I love love loved Adria Arjonaâs Dorothy (ngl, I had a bit of a crush on her too) and she and Lucas together were just... *chefâs kiss*. I mean... what an introduction to a character... she finds him crucified, bleeding, his wrists tied with barbed wire, and amnesiac.... and the whump only gets better and better from there on in! Like the entire first two episodes are just... Lucas whump! :D And his devotion to her... Emerald City was honestly the first show where I really got into a ship. I was *invested* in Dorcas, dammit! Aaaand sadly another excellent show that never made it past its first season.
16. JASON RALPH as QUENTIN COLDWATER - Another show that I watched right from the start, was heavily invested in.... and that the writers absolutely tanked and destroyed in later seasons. *cries* Quentin was such a brilliant viewpoint character for the show and I loved his awkwardness, and his angst, and his enthusiasm, and his adorable floppy hair... and how often he got whumped!Â
17. COLIN MORGAN - I fell for Colin in Merlin (which I stumbled upon late, long after it had finished airing, and hence was able to binge-watch the entire 5 seasons!) and liked him enough to seek out his other works, such as The Fall, and Humans, and The Living and the Dead, and he was brilliant (and very pretty) in all of them... and his characters also seem to get whumped quite a lot! :DÂ
18. MATT LANTER as WYATT LOGAN - Wyatt was another of my favourite archetypes... absolutely badass and competent... but also tortured and angsty and capable of intense devotion. Another show that I watched because of whumpy gifs on tumblr and the second ever show where I actually got invested in a ship - Lyatt all the way, baby!! :D - aaaaaand yet another show cancelled before its time.
19. NOCTIS LUCIS CAELUM from FINAL FANTASY XV - my very first video game crush! I was recommended to play FFXV by fellow whumpers on the whumpshire discord because it was whumpy... and they were not wrong and I loved the game and I absolutely adored Noctis. FFXV is one of very very VERY few video games that I have actually played right through to the end. And possibly the only video game that has ever affected me to such an extent... I became so invested in the characters and their world and I actually found the last couple of chapters really hard to play because it was actually upsetting me emotionally. I had to take a break for a couple of weeks before I could go back and finish it!
20. CONNOR from DETROIT BECOME HUMAN - and from there I jumped straight into another video game crush! DBH was another game recommended to me for its whump potential and I, and many others, immediately fell in love with the quirky, sassy, self-sacrificing (if you play the game right!)Â âandroid sent by Cyberlifeâ. The game itself is really good too... although, I have tried to play through all the different endings to the story but have never yet managed to make myself play the machine Connor storyline.... I want to complete all the story branches... but I also just want Hank and Connor to be friends and to be happy! :D
21. ZHU YILONG - Ahhh... the beginning of the asian drama arc of my fandom life! I first came across Zhu Yilong after getting sucked into watching Guardian because of pretty (and whumpy) gifs on tumblr... and Iâve never looked back. He is one of the rare entries where I am pretty much guaranteed to like him in pretty much anything he does and my crush extends beyond Shen Wei, or his other characters, and into reblogging his fashion shoot photos, and keeping up with news of his work in general. Heâs just... so darn pretty! And also so... blur! :D And the behind the scenes stuff and interviews of him with Bai Yu, during the Guardian era, just made me fall for him all the more. Heâs also ridiculously talented - not only a fantastic actor, but a really good singer (I love his singing voice), he plays guitar and piano, and he can paint too!!
Heâs also pretty much what made me start learning Chinese... because after Guardian I went seeking his other dramas to watch... only to find that many of them are only partially, or not at all, subbed. So I thought... why not try learning Chinese and then Iâll be able to watch his other shows? :D
21. JI CHANG WOOK - My first kdrama crush, and what a good one to start with! Healer was the first drama I ever watched and can you blame me for falling for JCW... especially when I followed up Healer with The K2?! Iâve liked him in pretty much everything Iâve watched him in. Although I do wish he would go back to doing more action-based shows as he is sooo good at them... but he seems to prefer the romcom genre these days, which is something I am nottt always a fan of tbh.
22. JAKE HSU as MENG SHAO FEI - Yet another show that I got sucked into by tumblr - and also one with a great, fun fandom through which I met lots of lovely people who I still follow/am mutuals with to this day. I just *adored* Jakeâs character in History and I also loved the ship - Tang Fan and Meng Shaofei were awesome and adorable together and I was totally invested in both the ship and the gangster/cop/what happened years ago story happening alongside the ship. And Jake is just all kinds of cute.
23. XIAO ZHAN - Aaaand we are pretty much up to current day now... where The Untamed took over my life in the summer of 2019 and has yet to let me go. Xiao Zhan is another disgustingly talented human being - a fantastic singer and a really good actor, and also an artist - and he also just comes across as a genuinely sweet and charming person, and a very thoughful and earnest one too. And lbr he is ridiculously pretty, and his smile is just pure sunshine.Â
24. LEE DONG WOOK as LEE YEON - The most recent entry to the charts.... a Korean actor I was aware of but whose work I hadnât watched and whose looks didnât particularly seem to grab me... until I watched Tale of the Nine Tailed and fell head over heels for Lee Yeon (and daaayum does red hair suit LDW!!) and very quickly began to find LDWâs looks very appealing (and oh my, does Lee Yeon whump well!!). And yes, I have now started watching Goblin. :D
Phew! Aaaand we are done! Iâll admit, I did think of a few more as I was compiling this list but I decided to categorise them as more âminorâ crushes and not include them... otherwise we really could be here all day!!
Iâm going to tag: @sarah-yyyâ, @arlothiaâ, @howdydowdyâ, @thepromiseweheldforlifeâ and @the-wandering-whumperâ!

oooh for the ask game 24, 30, and 44!
MAGPIE MY BELOVED HELLO
24. What are your favorite episodes?
The only episodes I've really watched are TMWWBK (which is my favorite episode and I'm certain would still be my favorite if I watched every single one because it has the only SPN character and the only SPN line), The French Mistake (which was funny enough but honestly in the Just Okay category for me, which makes me pretty sure I wouldn't enjoy actually watching SPN if this is one of the funniest/highest-rated eps), and Reading Is Fundamental (my best friend was watching it and asked me if I wanted to hop on Discord, I thought it might be fun to see Kevin's first introduction but instead this ep found the two of us taking like 90 minutes to get through it bc we kept pausing and screaming (derogatory) as the model minority stereotype jokes piled up and up and up... Unfortunately not a favorite even if we got Meg AND the "pull my finger" joke AND the "Sorry" shot). Other than TMWWBK, from clipping and transcript-reading, I like Wayward Sisters (who doesn't?), The Things We Left Behind (Claire!!!! Cas trying to be a dad! The diner scene aka my favorite destiel scene of all time bc being in love just looks so good on Cas! Also the parallels between Claire and Randy and teen Dean and the adults at that club in his story... woof.), Golden Time (Eileen gets to be HERE and be sad and loved and fight people with ghost powers and Cas gets to do a cool speech and a stabbing and do the Asian community a favor), and Lucifer Rising (just immensely sexy on all counts for Ruby, Sam, Cas, and myself). Also I am SO fond of Steve!Cas so I'll add Heaven Can't Wait even if I barely know anything about it.
30. What is an unpopular opinion or headcanon you have about the show?
Ooh okay hm I think. So I adore confession scene, but I don't think the "I cared about the whole world because of you" is like. The Objective Truth the way that most bloggers seem to take it. Cas was lobotomized tons of times before he met Dean, he was described as coming off the line with a crack in his chassis, he's always been the weird little angel who likes humanity too much! I don't think Dean came first, and although gay love was part of what helped Cas invent free will, he *Ruby voice* didn't need the feather to fly, Dumbo! I do think Cas believes what he says in the moment, but I also think he sorta... made himself believe it? This is probably just me deciding that cas-coding should go both ways, but like. I very much crush as a coping mechanism and I very much overascribe my actions to love because it simply seems more noble/poetic to do so. Being miserable because school is hard is cringefail but being miserable because of unrequited love is Good Shit. And I have been in unrequited love with my best friend for at least 7 years (probably 9 but I didn't realize it earlier) and if you asked I would 100% say that she taught me love and defined love for me and that she will be my first and last, but I also know that that is not entirely true; it's just the narrative that I like for myself. And I think that being in an Empty deal contingent on whether or not he LETS himself feel happy would lead Cas to do plenty of mental maneuvering, which I think involved intentional self-poor-little-meow-meow-ification via overascribing his choices and happiness to Dean (and I also think he'd already been doing that for a while just because of personal self-worth issues and because it's a nice narrative). I know as Cas's last Moment on the show it was probably written to be The Objective Truth, but I am perceiving him and I say no.
44. If you could write an episode of Supernatural, what would happen?
Oh scream okay! This is a fun one! I am going to start out with two ideas from other people:
1. Months ago Nate from the pocnatural discord had the idea of an episode from the "monster"'s perspective where the Winchesters are just clearly the antagonists while not doing anything different than they usually do. I think the idea was that all these supernatural beings live in a self-regulating community together and we have one Very Likable pov character who's a member of this community, but one of the newer members messes up one day and kills someone and the Winchesters come on a case and wreak havoc on this Very Much Functioning (there was going to be a whole rehab and reparations thing for the new member who messed up!) system and kill pov character and in the end you just HATE Sam and Dean for it.
2. It's hard to adapt anything from bad moon rising (aka my favorite spn fic) very well because the point of an Arab Winchesters season 1 rewrite is that it doesn't really work with the white characters we have now, but I think I could see a version of chapter 2 adapted as long as Haley (an Ojibwe hunter who lives in the area affected by what Sam and Dean are hunting) takes the lead. I'd especially like to see this section:
Dean laughs, a little disbelievingly. The question has never crossed his mind. âDo you like it?â
This gives Haley no pause at all. âYeah,â she says. âI mean, itâs not really about killing monsters, though, for me. Or, itâs not always about killing monsters. Itâs about community. Not violence. Itâs a spiritual thing to build a home, you know?â
âOh,â Dean says. He canât think of anything else to say. It has never crossed his mind before that hunting could be compatible with a community.
I don't have any original episode ideas to add to the hunting discourse, so we're on to my ideas about character-driven eps. I think I would like to see a version of my sastiel possession fic (ty again for beta-ing that! you're a real one) as an ep around the time of 9.11 because Sam deserves to work through their trauma, but idk what the Dean plot should be for that. Another thing I would like very much is TFW drunk history storytime (so like. Tall Tales bass boosted), where for some reason they all need to go over what they were doing during Stanford era but each of them is telling someone else's story. It's gonna be either Sam->Dean->Cas->Sam or Dean->Sam->Cas->Dean. It starts out very funny (they all have terrible wigs and makeup in the flashbacks. Cas is Jimmy wearing a giant mask with googly eyes on it.) but as it goes on it gets increasingly sad how much these three don't really know each other.
In the Sam->Dean->Cas->Sam episode, Sam's telling of Dean's past veers wildly between "crushing pussy and killing things" and "feels like absolute shit all the time" and it's funny but Not Right and afterwards Dean goes "I didn't know you thought of me that way" and Sam says "... I am basically reading off the voicemails you left me back then" and Dean has to sit there and contend with the mythology he himself wrote for Sam to believe in. Dean->Cas provides the comedic beats for the episode as Dean awkwardly narrates Cas's Life As A Weird Little Guy who watches trees grow and heals babies and in the end Dean goes "so how did I do" and Cas is like "well actually I was either getting lobotomized or murdering people so like 3/10?" The moral of this plot line is that Dean is bi. Cas gives a fairly faithful retelling of Sam living her trans little life at Stanford and veering between trying to be Normal and being a total weirdgirl and feeling guilty and angry and happy and free. It becomes clear that Cas admires Sam a lot (but also feels like. guilt and some self-recrimination for not being that) for rebelling from their dad and exploring their queerness during a time Cas was still to his knowledge in total soldier mode, and Sam is having an a_good_soldier's Thesis 5 moment about how she failed the kid she used to be and how very sorry they are about all the things that happened to them, and Dean hates that this is the first he's hearing about so much of this but is also quite emo about the parts where Sam is struggling. The ep ends with them all in the same room not looking at each other and not knowing if they want to group hug or never talk again.
Dean->Sam->Cas episode is similar but the storytelling dissolves a lot faster as it becomes clearer way faster how much their own emotions are getting in the way. Dean is upset that Sam could leave their family so easily and probably swing a normal life, Sam keeps wondering what it would be like to live millennia just KNOWING that you were right and good and clean, and Cas is gay and veering between fitting Dean's life into a larger Righteous Man narrative and just being very tender (and sad and angry) about Dean's pain. Episode ends in a rather cathartic shouting match where they all end up apologizing to each other for many things.
Oh also I would like to see Cassie again but I don't have an episode in mind there. Also would love to see Kaia adjusting to life in Sioux Falls and befriending the others and dealing with Bad Place trauma.
tysm for the questions sorry for taking so long!
