So remember my "Bill finds out Dipper is his soulmate" idea? Well, I decided to play with it a little earlier in my head and as the last part of Bill's therapy, he needs to find his soulmate and gain his friendship and forgiveness, but he isn't told until he's dropped off as a human in Gravity Falls who it is and he's not allowed to outright tell them who he is. So, Dipper has a bit of a fun guessing game once Bill approaches and as soon as he's done he's like "So, you need my acceptance and forgiveness to prove you're a changed man, so I'm taking you on an apology tour to earn that, starting with Gideon" and Bill finds out that Gideon is living with a biker gang, his parents divorced and ditched him (dad went insane, actually) and Gideon is thinner but also more muscular and taller and it's kind of intimidating when Dipper brings him and explains Bill's "situation" and Gideon just gives Bill a cold glare before telling him to get on his knees and apologize.

And that's just the first of a LOT of people he needs to apologize to. XD

Stanford had been distant a lot more than you would like to have admitted over the past few weeks. Sure, you'd get the kids together, and all of you would hang out and have your own little adventures, but more often than not, you couldn't find him before you followed your new adopted great niece and nephew out the door for the next great adventure or activity for the summer.

You loved going out with them, taking them to lunch, or to shop Dipper even more recently, inviting you to monster hunt again. But when you weren't invited and the kids went on their own journey, you found the house was only quiet.

In the what seemed to be rare and far in-between days stan was with the three of you, you felt a great wave of peace wash over you. The four of you laughing in the car after narrowly escaping one of stans crazy ideas, sitting with him on the back porch, watching the kids run around.

You felt a buzz inside you when you sat next to him, watching him laugh at dippers water balloon hitting the ground without a pop. You loved your routine with him before the kids arrived. It seemed like that was becoming all you knew.

But the shack felt different with laughter filling it up. And if you realized it or not, those two kids were bringing you closer to Stanford when he hung around. You took a deep breath and scooted in closer to Stanford, his arm instinctively wrapped around the back of the couch, letting you fill as much space next to him as you wished.

"I can't believe this is my life now. I don't know what i did to deserve this." He said, looking down at you as you now watched the twins in the yard. "Everything happens for a reason, remember?"

"I guess so." His hand fell softly onto your shoulder, snuggling you closer. "Look out!" You and Stanford both jumped up as one of the water balloons landed where you were once sitting.

"Can't a guy get any peace around here!?" You laugh at him as he runs out into the yard demanding a balloon.

The feelings washed away, knowing he'd be hiding by tonight.

He was right, though. You couldn't believe this was your life as of right now.

"Y/n?"

You hummed in response as you cleaned dippers cut. "Would you say your feelings for Grunkle stan are...of the romantic kind?" Mable asked from right beside her brother her own adventure wounds needing to be rented too.

"Mable!" Dipper yelped, knocking her over with a nudge. You laughed out loud at her question. "Sorry..sorry." You cleared your throat. "Excuse me. Mable, what would make you ask something like that?"

"Oh c'moonnn as a love expert-"

"Your twelve-"

"I can see how you and grunkle stan look at eachother, you've been friends for years, and you've really never felt anything more than friendship for him?"

You bit the inside of your cheek as you thought about her question. "I guess maybe a few years ago... but things were different back then, and I never knew how he felt about me. Besides, so much time has passed that I'm sure that old fart feels anything other than tired anymore." Mable jumped to her feet and smashed your cheeks together.

"Y/n it is my mission as a matchmaker and love expert of gravity falls. I make it my mission to get you and my grunkle together!"

"Mable, why do you even care? Grunkle stan has shown no interest in anything other than money since we've been here."

"Dippers got a point." You say pulling tables small hands from your face. "Besides, I'm not taking love advice from the girl who dated little Gideon not too long ago."

Mable's face grew red, and she pulled the neck of her sweater up. "Ugh, don't remind me." You chuckled again, refocusing the attention to the wounds on each kid as Dipper went back to explaining what had happened in the first place.

You'd gone the next few weeks thinking about mables question. Did you still have feelings for stanford?

It wasn't something you thought much about. You two just existed with eachother nothing ever really came out of it since you were young. Besides, you'd never make a move unless you knew his exact feeling for you. He'd been so secretive recently that the only way For that to happen, you'd have to get inside his mind to find anything like that out.

Of course that was almost impossible.

"Y/N THERES A LITTLE YELLOW GUY TRUING TO TAKE OVER STANS MIND WE NEED YOUR HELP DIPPERS GOING TO TAKE US IN THERE COME ON COME ON!"

Of course maybe you spoke to soon.

"Mable slow down! What's going on!?" You asked as she dragged you by the sleeve into the family room where Stanford sat sleeping.

"So like we saw little Gideon in the woods and poof a little yellow man appeared and he made a deal with him to go inside stans mind to get the code to the safe that Mr pines keeps the deed in." Soos explained in one long breath you could see his face Turing a strange shade of red and violet.

"Wha-"

"No time we need to go now before it's to late!" Mable cried before you could even think to ask for clarification or any follow up questions.

You followed along with what Dipper told you to do, and you watched as he read from an oddly familiar book.

You make a note to ask him about it later.

Your thoughts were cut off as dippers chanting got louder, and before you knew it, the world had melted away from you, and you were suddenly sitting in a patch of grey grass.

"Wow! This is stans mind?" Mable said, hopping up and looking at the grey landscape before you.

You pushed yourself and looked around jaw on the floor. "I've done some pretty crazy things in my day, but this is beyond me..."

"Thanks for coming along y/n!" Mable said.

"Of course! You know you can count on me for anything, kids."

"OK, we need to keep an eye out for the triangle guy." Dipper stated as you headed twoard the shack.

"Yea, look put for the triangle guy!" You jumped at the voice that appeared out if no were surprised to see it belonged to exactly what the kids and soos had said.

"It's him it's the guy!" Soos said in alarm pointing at the glowing shape.

"You leave our grunkles mind alone, you isosollies monster!" Mable shouted as she charged at him. "Mable!" You and Dipper shouted each holding out an arm to grab her.

You watched in horror as the triangle swallowed her up and waited a minute before spitting her back out into your arms.

"Stan's family, it's good to finally meet you! Some more than others!" He said, floating particularly close to you as he said so. You scowled at him and shielded Mable from him. "Names bill cipher."

"Get out of stans mind! You have no business here!" Dipper shouted.

"Trust me, kid! You're the only one who should be getting out of here your way over your heads." His one winked as he shot a finger gun twoard Dipper shooting ahole through him. "I'm gonna find that code and and you're not going to stop me!"

He flew away, leaving a triangle shape hole in the shack.

"We gotta get that code before that freak does." You said pausing to giggle as Mable reached her arm through the hole in dippers chest.

"Mable!" You coughed and put on a serious face. "Alright, kids...and soos.. let's go."

You lead the way into the shack of stans mind your eyes darting from door to door each labeled a different thing.

Fears, hopes, etc.

"Look! Stans memories!" Soos pointed out. You all ran into the hall watching memories play out all around you. "Quick, let's split up and cover more ground."

You turned to open a door but the mables' hand caught yours. "Look what I found!" She squealed with giddy. "You found the code? Already?" She shook her head and dragged you out down the memory hall and too a door with a heart carved into the wood. Signage warning against opening the door nearly covering every inch.

"What is this?" You asked the girl beside you. "Look for yourself." She lifted up a "get lost" sign to reveal the doors true label.

"Y/ns memories."

"Oh Mable I dunno...we should really be looking for the code."

"Oh, c'mon, you said it yourself that you never really knew what he felt for you it wouldn't hurt to look!"

"Yes, Mable, it would! the shack is at steak-"

Before you could continue, Mable had opened the door and pushed you in. "Face your fears y/n! Face your emotions!" She slammed the door shut on you. "Don't worry y/n we'll find the code before bill does, I'll come back for you when we do!"

you huffed and stood up dusting yourself off, this was ridicules you knew how Stanford felt about you you've known each other for what felt like your whole life. Besides you told Mable already if anything was to happen it would have by now. your hand grasped the door handle as you prepared to chase the twins and Soos down.

"Congratulations!" you heard a voice say from behind you. you turned to see one of the many doors cracked open. despite your better judgment to go after the kids you went straight for the door pulling it open. to see your wedding day.

well, your fake Vegas wedding. stan stood at the counter with the cashier in a dinky thrift shop on the outskirts of Vegas itself, waiting for you. "oh right..." you mumble to yourself watching your shared memory through Stans eyes.

"I'm sure you're very excited about the wedding." Stanford shrugged. "Trust me, I've been married a few times...this ain't nothing new for me." you frowned a little, you weren't sure why, you knew that's how he'd felt and it wasn't a real wedding. "Stanford! Look at this!!!" you yelled excitedly to him pushing open a dressing room curtain behind him.

you excitedly spun around in the wedding outfit you had picked out, you were so much younger, it suspired you too see yourself.

you watched Stanford's face flush upon seeing you his eyes fixated on you jaw almost on the floor. you didn't remember him looking at you like that. "wow you look...you look amazing!" he said rubbing the back of his neck trying to find the right words. you squealed in a pitch similar to the one Mable had done earlier before shutting the curtain again. "you were saying this wasn't something new?" the cashier asked raising a suspicious eyebrow.

"listen between you and me this whole Vegas wedding isn't anything new for me...they're corny, cheap and lousy all things y/n doesn't deserve any of that stuff, and I don't know why I'm telling you of all people, but I've known y/n for a while now the way she makes me feel isn't like how anyone has made me feel before I could never tell any of this too her, I've ruined to many relationships I could risk losing her in my life so try to act nonchalant about these types of thing, don't want to give myself away you know." the cashier stared at him unsure of how to react to all the information dumped onto him.

"here's 20 bucks to forget everything I said." he said sliding money across the counter.

you shut the door with a smile before looking down the long hallway. you crept over to another one. opening the door only to see a normal night you asleep on his shoulder as he continued to talk about the movie that was playing without realizing. it took him a whole monologue before realizing you had passed out. he leaned over careful not to wake you but enough to see you where sleeping.

he took a deep breath before talking some more. "Here goes nothing, y/n you've been with me through thick and thin when no one had my back you where there...I guess what I'm trying to say is y/n I...I think I have feeing's for you...you've made me an honest man in some ways...and.." you jumped upon hearing screaming.

"Oh no Kids!" you took off running swinging the door open and running down the hallway running past memories trying to find the kids. "Dipper!? Mable? Soos!?"

"Dipper!-"

"This here's a-"

"Stan Vac-"

"Stanley do something-" you could no longer hear the kids let alone see them in all the noise of Stanford's memories. you began running out of the memories hall in hopes you'd find them somewhere else. "Dipper!? Mab-" the wind was knocked out of you as you and dipper crashed right into each other. "Y/n! there you are!"

"Dipper you're ok! where is your sister and Soos!?"

"Bills got them! Don't worry I have a plan!" you followed dipper through Stanford's mind following his exact plan, you never even thought about what you could do in ones mind, flying and giant water guns didn't never even cross your mind.

"Hey one eye!" you and dipper grabbed bills attention as you floated up to his level neon colored squirt guns in hand. "WHAT!?"

"Dipper! Y/N! how are you doing that?"

"This is a mindscape you can do anything you imagine in here!" you explained."who told you that? dont liten to them!"

"ready dipper!?"

"ready y/n! aim and..."

"Fire!" you both shot your water guns at bills eye causing him to cry out in pain, you watched Mable conjure herself kitten fists and launched them at bill.

"Now think of a portal out of stans mind!" the four of you shut your eyes and all thought as hard as you could as a portal opened up under bill. "No No No wait! wait! wait! ENOUGH!"

you all flew back as the space around you was now a white void. "you know you're all a lot smarter than you look! I'll let you go for now, you might prove to be useful especially you y/n."

you scrunched your nose at him. "but remember there will come a day when everything you care about will change! until then I'll be watching you!"

there was a bright flash and he was gone. "well that wasn't ominous.." you said "we did it though! He left!" dipper cheered.

before you knew it Stan woke up and you were all wakening up in the Livingroom. and for a moment everything was normal again. "Ugh I had the weirdest dream." stan said rubbing his head. "You're ok!" you exclaimed running over to hug him and planting a quick kiss on his lips. his face heated up as you did so and before you knew it the kids had joined the hug.

a few hours later you'd gotten the kids to go to bed and found Stanford sitting on the back porch. "care for a drink?" you asked offering him a pitty cola he accepted with a smile. and you sat down next to him.

"where have you been?' you asked. a lot had happened today a lot that made you think things over and you decided to start there.

"what do you mean?" he asked with a chuckle. "I've been right here like i always have."

you shook your head. "Most days we can't find you, its been me and the kids or just me in the house, a lot has changed since those two came around most of its been for the better but i didn't think it would drive you away."

he frowned. "do you trust me?"

"Of course." you answered without hesitation.

"I've been working on something i cant tell you what but it's important. and I'll tell you what if it bothers you so much, I'll be around more." you smiled.

"good, I miss you." you said bumping into him.

you both chuckled and then there was a beat of silence you looked up at the sky and took a breath. "Stanford."

"Yea?"

"I think...we'll in light of some recent events...Stanford you mean the world to me."

"uh-oh is something wrong? why are you getting all sappy?"

you took another breath and exhaled all the words you were trying to say.

"Stanford pines I think I'm in love with you and I think you feel the same way about me!" you covered your mouth after you spilled it all. and he stared at you in shock. "Y/n...I uh..."

"I know this is random...buy. You know better late than never, right?"

stan stared at you in awe where your eyes sparkling in the starlight. was this really happening to him right now?

"Stanford?" you placed a hand over his when went silent. normally he would jump at an opportunity like this. sweep you off your feet. But as he stared at your hopeful eyes all he could do was wonder how much of what you felt was really for him, Stanley Pines and how much of it was for who you had believed him to be.

"Oh come on Grunkle stan! Take her on a date already!" Mables voice shouted from above you.

"Mable? what are you doing up!?" you shouted standing to your feet to look up at the twins practically hanging out their window. "yea c'mon Grunkle stan!" dipper agreed with his sister.

"Date! Date! date!" the two kids cheered into the night air.

"alright! alright!" stan said trying to shush them.

"y/n...would you do me the honors of going to dinner with me?" you laughed and his heart swelled at your answer. "Of course Stanford pines."

i’m a mabel defender forever dipper is Just As selfish as she is and also if you legitimately think mabel is at fault for not breaking it off with gideon herself i will actually just start throwing rocks at you like i don’t know what i can say to convince you how insane you sound. it is a cartoon but that part was upsettingly real. it is horrifying as a girl when you’re having your boundaries pushed in little ways that still make you uncomfortable bc then You’re being unreasonable somehow, just saying No is unreasonable somehow. and then here shes Also being societally pressured into dating him. i think it was very sweet that dipper tried to break up w gideon for her bc the episode legitimately sets up that She Couldn’t. but no she’s Wrong for that somehow. girls are taught to be nice to boys pushing their boundaries too much we need to give them hat pins again

Hey! You seem like a huge *Gravity Falls* fan, so I was hoping you could answer some of my biggest questions about morality in the show. Since the release of *The Book of Bill* (which I’ve read), do you think Bill could ever be redeemed or seen sympathetically? Is there a possibility for him to get better and maybe even have a happy ending?

I ask this because I see a lot of fans saying, "He's awful," or "He deserves everything coming to him a thousandfold," and "Don't sympathize with him!" But then I watch the show, and I see characters like Gideon Gleeful and Robbie who were also problematic—they did terrible things but still got happy endings.

I know Gideon went to jail, but he broke out and ultimately had a positive resolution. Robbie, for example, tried to brainwash Wendy into a romantic relationship (which is super messed up!). Even though it didn’t work, and Wendy only dated him because she thought he wrote her that song, Robbie knew what the CD was supposed to do. But instead of facing real consequences, he just went through a breakup and still ended up with a happy ending, with friends and a new girlfriend.

As for Gideon, he tried to kill Dipper, manipulate Mabel, and invade the entire town’s privacy—basically doing some of the same things Bill did. Yet, after going to jail and making a last-minute turn toward good, he still got a happy ending.

So I’m super confused. What should I be feeling? Is there a correct way to view these characters? What do you think?

Bill at his core is the personification of denial. We see in the book that the harbours some regret and hatred for what he's done to the people around him but he refuses to try and take it to heart and use it as a point to grow from. I mean, look at what he did.

He killed his entire dimension and family and yet tries to deny it was anything bad and that in fact he liberated them. He manipulated and almost destroyed Ford and yet denies ruining the friendship they had. He tried to kill Dipper and Mabel and yet acts like it was nothing. Bill is unsympathetic. He's a narcissistic sociopath who doesn't wanna admit it.

The difference with Robbie and Gideon is that they changed and grew past their issues. Robbie tbh was more so being a literal teen drama story while Gideon was made that way through his exposure to Journal 2 and how that corrupted him. Once both found a new lease on life, they were able to grow and become better.

Bill is not that. He cannot accept that he's not fine and that he's the sole survivor of his kind and has pushed everyone he knew out of his life through his own actions. We've all probably dealt with people like Bill Cipher. Be it a person, co-worker, significant other, friend, family member, etc. We've all had that person who acts full of themselves and manipulatively but in reality is suffering. But because of how they act and their refusal to do anything, you start to lose any sympathy or interest in helping or being there and just let them go. Congrats...you just escaped a toxic relationship.

As someone who has dealt with Bill Ciphers in my life like many of us probably have, it's easy to feel sympathy for him. Bill make his case out as such that you wanna feel like he deserves better. But he's a trillion year old being that has been doing the same thing over and over again and refuses to make an effort to move on and let himself accept what he did to his dimension and to people around him like Ford.

Ford on the other hand realized that and cut Bill out of his life. He's doing better now because of that and has his family by his side. Ford is an example of how to move on from such toxic situations and people and find happiness in your life again after that. Bill is the example of what happens if you can't.

Life is short. We all will die one day. We all deserve to lead a life free of people like Bill Cipher in it. The best thing we can do is follow Ford and find the people in life that make us happy and let go of Bill.

So, to answer your question, NO!

I don't think Bill Cipher can be redeemed or seen in a sympathetic way. He tried to. But he's shown even in the Theraprism that he can't. He's doomed to live forever with the shit he's done. And it's his own fault.

Bill can say he's fine but in the end...he's not. And he never will be. There is no redemption for Bill Cipher.

Okay so I know this is a silly ask but like—there are so many interesting things with certain episodes that would change if Stanford/bill was around in them. So I wanna ask about things from certain eps and stuff! Just a few simple ones(I really love this au btw it’s so interesting!!)

—How did bill respond to Mabel dating Gideon?? Or did it not happen in some way cause of him?

—Does he help Stanley scare kids on summerween? Or does he do trick or treating instead?

—So like- Did the sock opera bill plot never happen or was it just a somewhat normal play? Did he end up helping out Mabel?

I love the silly asks so much. For as messed up as the au is when you think about it, it is also still Gravity Falls, and there’s a lot of wacky hijinks afoot that I also love to think about!

— Bill was so close to adding assaulting a child to his criminal record. Mabel is his favourite out of the two at this point in time, with his relationship with Dipper still being tense at best, and he hates to see her free and chaotic spirit held down by a nine year old who’s more hair than flesh. I mean seriously! Shooting Star is a Star that needs to shine bright and unleash her boundless energy onto the world. She can’t do that if she’s being made miserable and boring.

I can see him arguing with Stan over the whole arranged couple thing, try and snap some sense back into his old, sagging brain.

I got my own Book of Bill today finally, and so a bit of this is based on the Vinegar Pete section, which, historical inaccuracies regarding one of my special interests aside, did show a pretty interesting to side to Bill, and how he is willing to give people power in the name of freeing them of their chains, alongside causing entropy. This is kind of like that, in a way.

Thinking more on it, he might even end up being there during the final confrontation — for a few reasons. Not sure which route is most plausible yet though. Either way, it’d probably be the first time he actively protects the kids from danger, namely because A) He likes Mabel B) Stan would go into a state if anything happened to these kids, which wouldn’t benefit his situation at all.

He isn’t super attached to them yet, so he lacks the same vulnerability his future self will have.

— I mentioned this in a previous ask today but Bill and Stan have a tradition of who can scare kids the most on Summerween or Halloween, so he’d be at home with Stan doing that. He’d be annoyed to know he missed the Summerween Trickster. The guy owed him money. And he missed out on eating him too? His night is ruined (he’s being dramatic).

— I haven’t fully worked out Sock Opera yet, but I do have a thing in mind where Bill is desperately trying to sabotage Dipper’s attempts with the laptop, because he really is getting way too close. His issue is he has to be more careful about it. Not really his forte. I’m not sure if that’d work alongside the original plot of that episode, or if I’ll have to scrap it and come up with something else. I’ll have to come back to this I fear.

Recently rewatched Gravity Falls with its resurgence online, and I was itching to give my take on an older Mabel with an absolute unit of a Waddles (who is a regular farm pig after all). To go along with this, I also wrote some fanfic: a letter from Dipper to Mabel, about his return to Gravity Falls years after the show. Read it on AO3 or below!

Dear Mabel,

I hope everything is going well back home!  I miss you already, but it’s so good to be back in Gravity Falls too. A  lot has changed since our summer here.

The first week of my internship at McGucket Labs has been amazing. McGucket has really transformed Northwest Manor into a fantastic campus (though he still insists everyone call it “the Hootenanny Hut”)! There are so many  brilliant scientists and engineers here, and most of them have a refreshingly open mind about the nature and use of all the weirdness you can find in Gravity Falls. My experience with all that stuff is already paying off big time. Yesterday some PHD dude asked for my opinion on practical applications of necromancy (I told him it was a bad idea)!

Candy says hi by the way! It’s funny, for me this internship is all the way across the country, but for her it’s practically in her back yard, even though we both got that scholarship. Also, she tells me Grenda is more or less officially part of the Austrian aristocracy at this point? Apparently she and that Marius duke guy got engaged, did you hear about that?? Turns out I’m completely out of the loop with your friend group.

Candy and I have been hanging out with, of all people, Pacifica and Gideon. Can you believe it? Pacifica works at Corduroy Lumber these days. Probably in some misguided sense to get back to her roots, but I think it’s doing her some actual good. Working with her hands has been teaching her valuable life lessons I guess. It makes it a bit weird if Wendy also comes hang out, because she’s technically Pacifica’s boss – but you know Wendy’s cool about that.

Gideon is still running the Tent of Telepathy, so, not all winners. But he’s turned into a more lovable kind of swindler I think, like a younger Stan. He’s honestly kinda funny now (except that he’s taller than me). Wendy also told me he has a thing for Pacifica, and once she did, I couldn’t unsee it. He’s all over her! Pacifica hasn’t noticed, even though they spend a lot of time together. Or maybe she just hasn’t deigned it with a reaction... Either way, both of them are a ball to go for a drink with, whoda thunk.

You also have a lot of hugs from Soos, Melody and the baby (Stan Jr is sooo cute). (Yes, I asked. Melody promised to make you godmother of the hypothetical next child. You owe me.) The Shack is as charmingly ramshackle as it was back when we were here, but Soos finally got the old man stink out. I’m staying in Grunkle Ford’s old secret office because our room was converted to baby chamber. I still haven’t gotten the Bill murals completely off the walls and I have no natural light down here, but I spend most of my time at Northwest Manor the Hootenanny Hut anyway.

Or in the woods! Being back here really was a good move for my Youtube channel, there’s so much more supernatural stuff here than in California, and people are loving it. (I saw you liked my last video, thanks!) I’m currently tracking down what I think is the actual Gobblewonker. I analyzed some detritus samples from the lake, and there were feces from a large reptile present. From what we know, none of the dinosaurs in the mine were aquatic, so my current hypothesis is that it’s an unrelated creature. Especially since, according to my research, the Gobblewonker story dates back at least a century. I also gotta show Ford some of my findings. You know they’ve come across some aquatic monsters in the Bermuda Triangle. (Have you also been getting his mails with scans of the fourth journal? Truly fascinating stuff.) One episode of Gravity Falls I don’t see a lot of conversation about is The Hand That Rocks The Mabel. Imma talk about it a bit because I love it, especially now that I’ve had a sorta similar situation.

This episode showcases EXACTLY how it feels when you have a friend and/or partner that is really passionately into you, but you only see them as a friend. Mabel likes being friends with Gideon at first, he’s interested in some of the same things as her and he’s silly.

But Gideon starts to creep her out. He thinks the relationship is going to be built on romantic chemistry, while Mabel thinks she’s making a new friend. He ends up roping her into a romantic relationship she doesn’t want to be in.

Mabel really likes hanging out with Gideon at first, but she doesn’t want to date him. She becomes trapped in this relationship because it makes the people around her happy, but it makes her miserable, and she doesn’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings. She can’t figure out how to break up with him because she knows she wants to, but she can’t bring herself to hurt anyone’s feelings.

Dipper is honestly an amazing brother for offering to break up for her. Gideon going psycho also gave her the opportunity to make a clean break up because there was not just discomfort, but he had also tried to kill her brother over it.

I relate to Mabel in this episode so much, because I had a similar relationship with my first (ex)boyfriend (I’m ace and he was nooooooot lol). I think it’s great that this type of thing was represented in Gravity Falls and I think it’s a really important message.

Just because someone likes you a certain way, doesn’t mean you’re obligated to like them that way too. If someone you enjoy the company of is creeping you out with the way they treat you, set your boundaries. Your safety and mental health is more important than someone’s romantic interest in you.

ok ok ok so. im not gonna cite any specific sources sorry im too lazy to go back but i promise you ive watched the series too much for it to be healthy

mabel and ford are both very much similar people. they're both very artistically talented, mabel made a lifelike sculpture of stan so you cant deny this one - they also both have very similar personalities, they're extremely blunt when talking to others and outwardly weird and proud of it, they just express it in different ways. i mean how many times has mabel directly called out dipper for doing Stupid Shit in the same way Ford has to Stan ? like at least three times. at least thrice. and theres definitely a parallel between mabel embracing being a weird little girl and making sweaters every day, eating toothpaste and whatever the unicorn creature from DDAMD was - she could choose to act normal, but why in the world would she ever? and ford not having that choice, so he pursues research of the supernatural to try and find a place for himself amongst the strange and unusual. both are also called out on by society for being strange - mabel just stands up to her bullies a little better than ford does. its also important to note that neither of them socialize normally at ALL. its just that mabel is so confident in herself that when she goes up to you and says HI I'M MABEL MY EARRINGS ARE NACHOS WANNA BE FRIENDS? you're like hell yeah!!! they are!!! lets be friends!!! theyre both so trusting too which leads to them being directly screwed over by bill, it isnt their fault at all but he STILL DOES IT. plus they both briefly dated a supernatural fish creature, and had an absolutely TRAINWRECK of a relationship that altered how they'll approach their future ones - mabels was with gideon, and fords was with bill.

and hoooo their twin. stan directly sees some of his younger self in dipper, most notably in dreamscaperers, which is why he tries to toughen the kid up. the two of them also solve a lot of their problems with Punching. as soon as dipper loses access to the journal he starts swinging. bro jumped off a cliff to punch a massive robot in the eye and also swung at a massive triangle god. he was NOT hesitating he just started swinging, exactly what stan does!!! and its for their twin. soooo much of what the both of them do is in pursuit of the goal of keeping their twin safe or getting them to safety. dipper sticks up for mabel against Pacifica exactly how Stan did for his family in Gideon Rises. they're also VERY intelligent + resourceful, and can fly by the seat of their pants with random information, stan rebuilt the portal with about a third of the blueprints and with zero funding, and dipper is shown doing complex math in an instant and using what little info the journal has on various threats to thwart them - part of this is also social intelligence. mabel may be a social butterfly but dipper and stan know who to trust and when and navigate their relationships extremely carefully. theyre also hella good at convincing people to do what they want - dipper redeemed at least two people by just talking to them, the only difference between the skill they have with words is that stan uses his to convince people to keep coming back to the mystery shack so he can make money, and dipper uses his to get people to fight back against injustice. i also dont think i need to tell you how insecure the both of them are in their identities. thats not even getting into the themes of self sacrifice

sorry this was long but tl;dr: a cutiepie wearing sweaters with a book vital to the plot whose eccentricities define them, and a smart&sly guy who has a way with words, with a front meant to hide their insecurities. okay was i talking about mabel and dipper or ford and stan in that order

"Gnomes and a gremlin?"

It was another summer and surprisingly normal day. The heat was fine to tolerate. Stan was doing his usual scamming with tourists, Mabel was out with Candy and Grenda, leaving Ford and Dipper alone in the living room. Dipper was sitting on the ground, switching through channels while Ford was sitting in Stanley's seat, writing down about whatever came to his smart mind.

Dipper glanced at the clock on the wall as it ticked. He wanted to play mini golf with Mabel, but since she had told him that she would be catching both Grenda and Candy up on her new crush, he figured it would be saved for another day.

Dipper sighed, placing the remote down as he looked up at the ceiling. "Man, Mabel's gonna be late today. She's gonna be gone all day, rambling about her new crush she met at the arcade the other day when we tagged along with Soos and Wendy."

"Wait, Mabel has another crush?" Ford asked as he took a moment to look at Dipper in disbelief.

"Yeah. The millionth one, but, at least, it's not like the few horrible ones she had earlier this summer." Dipper shrugged and sighed. Ford raised a brow. What did Dipper mean by that?

"Elaborate." Ford set his pen down and looked at Dipper with a serious look. Dipper sighed again, groaning as he buried his face into his hands.

"Uh..well, the first crush and boyfriend she had when we had just arrived here..was..unexpected." Dipper frowned at the thought. "His name was Norman. Well, their. Mabel and they all started dating. And well..turns out they were a bunch of gnomes disguised as a boy. They wanted to make her their queen..and well..when they revealed themselves to Mabel, she obviously didn't want to and turned them down. Their leader, Jeff, decided to take her by force. And a lot went down..we then got to a point where she got captured, I saved her, we got chased, and we defeated the gnomes. Basically, that was her first boyfriend. A bunch of gnomes."

Ford..was flabbergasted. His eyes were wide as if he had seen a ghost and his jaw dropped.

"WHAT!? GNOMES!?" Ford shouted as he dropped everything from his lap and hit the ground with a soft thud due to the carpet.

"That's not even as bad compared to Gideon." Dipper frowned even more as he got shivers at even mentioning that name

"..Gideon? Oh, man. I'm concerned at who your sister got into trouble with.."

"Trust me, I'm always concerned. Gideon was...something. Gideon was Grunkle Stan's arch enemy. Gideon badly wanted the Shack and they fought back and forth and all that mess. He also deeply liked Mabel..like..obsessive. She had agreed to go on a date with him when she genuinely didn't like him. Grunkle Stan wasn't happy about his great niece going out with his enemy. A lot went down. He lied to Mabel and did a lot of horrible things. He even kidnapped her with a huge robot when he had took the shack an-"

"HE KIDNAPPED HER!? Your telling me..a little gremlin like HIM..kindapped Mabel!? That is unbelievable!"

"Basically." Dipper shrugged.

Ford let out a big sigh as he looked exhausted. Like he had just gone through another 30 years in that portal.

"Gnomes and a gremlin? Christ, what messes did your sister get into." Ford murmured out as he leaned back. Dipper sighed. "I'd like to know too."

"Well, this is unacceptable. If I ever see that Jeff gnome or that little Gideon, I'll be sure to tell them to keep a massive radius away from my niece."

The next morning, Ford kept looking at Mabel. She quickly realized he had been staring hard at her while she knitted a new sweater for Waddles.

"Uh, Grunkle Ford? Is something wrong? You keep staring at me." Mabel murmured as she raised a brow.

Ford cleared his throat and looked away for a moment. "Apologies, Mabel. I'm just..I..who is this new crush of yours? Do you know what he really is?"

Mabel's eyes widened. "What?"

"Mabel, you dated gnomes disguised as a boy and a little gremlin named Gideon for Christ's sake!" Ford shouted out.

Mabel sat there for a few moments and letting out a nervous laugh. "Oh..yeah. I did. But I can reassure you I've been doing better at picking my crushes! This new boy is normal and NOT Gideon!"

"Glad to know.." Ford murmured. "Just..don't get into any more messes like that."

"Got it, Grunkle Ford!" Mabel grinned.

But, from that day on, Ford began to sometimes follow Mabel around and make sure whoever she was with..was normal. He was armed. Just in case.

Gravity Falls School-Related Headcanons

Both Dipper and Mabel are good students, although Mabel does occasionally get in trouble for getting distracted/not sitting still/talking in class, however, they're both generally considered to be good kids.

Dipper generally excels in all of his academic subjects, however his favourite subjects are biology and ancient history. He's usually pretty quiet in class, except every now and again he says either the most unhinged or most badass thing ever and everyone is freshly reminded that yes, Dipper Pines is, in fact, in this class (this is heavily inspired by my best friend who is exactly like that). Dipper doesn't hate PhysEd as much as he used to pre-Gravity Falls, however he's still not a huge fan of it.

Mabel's best subjects are the artistic ones, and she is instantly beloved by all the art teachers. She does a ton of extracurriculars, partially because she has a bunch of interests, and also because she has a tendency to join clubs and such because her friends/guys she's interested in are in them, and she has participated to some degree in every school musical she's had the chance to take part in. The only class she really struggles with a lot is maths, because it's 'too boring and logic-y' for her to stay focused on, particularly if Dipper isn't there to help her. She's also a cheerleader, because of course she is.

Friendgroup wise, Mabel has a lot of friendgroups. She has friends from all of her various classes and extracurriculars, friends she knows from elementary school (I had a long mindblank whereupon I forgot the word for 'primary school' in the USA, just thought I should let you know), and of course, she has extrovert-adopted Dipper and his friends. Despite this whole army of friends, she doesn't have any particularly close friends in Piedmont, and if she's asked who her best friend is, she'll respond with Candy and Grenda, who remain the only people who can quite match her energy.

Dipper, meanwhile, has pretty much had the same one best friend, named Ethan DiMarcos, forever. The two of them have very similar interests (although Ethan can't quite match Dipper's enthusiasm for all things paranormal), and tend to keep to themselves much of the time, and have pretty much had each other's back. While I'm not a huge fan of the idea that Dipper has been relentlessly bullied his entire school career and has no friends, it is canon that he has been victim of some bullying, and he's certainly not popular. Post-Gravity Falls, I think he's actually able to stand up to the bullies a little better, and generally he and Ethan have each other's backs. They do have a third friend, Paige Li, who they only met at the beginning of high school, because she was trying to find other DD&MD fans. Paige has had a crush on Dipper for ages, but despite Ethan and Mabel trying to pull strings, nothing is likely ever to come from it. Speaking of Ethan and Mabel, they did date for about a month in ninth grade, which horrified Dipper, especially since he was put in the middle of it when they broke up, thankfully amicably.

Now, I have said plenty about the Pineses, let's talk about what the other characters are like in school:

Candy's best subjects are chemistry, physics and music, and manages to be an impressively good student, despite reading fanfiction in class.

Grenda isn't necessarily the greatest student in most classes, however, she's BRILLIANT at English. For all she lacks in verbally diplomatic skills, she's incredibly smooth on paper. Grenda also, unsurprisingly, is also very good at PhysEd.

Pacifica's best subject is mathematics, and unsurprisingly she excels particularly at any finance-related maths. She's also the star of the school's debate team, because she has the power to crush people in the grip of logic. She also refuses point-blank to join the cheer team, even though they really want her.

Gideon's true calling is the stage, so drama class is his best class, although he's a brilliant student at most subjects.

Wendy and her friends are decidedly not good students, as they're all more interested in having fun and causing trouble than doing work (except Thompson, of course). This results in them being decidedly not the teacher's favourites.

TWO THINGS FROM TODAY’S EPISODE:

(Note: Thing One is so long I’m sending Thing Two as a second ask because the tonal whiplash from the two things I noticed when watching the episode today would be horrendous)

Thing One:

Holy smokes- I forgot how this episode really dove into the issue of when a girl can’t say no to a guy despite being uncomfortable. I’ve been in Mabel’s situation many times, and needless to say that story is incredibly personal to me.

But also, like, the idea that Mabel, OUR Mabel, the one that fell for several guys in the span of just a few days of being in Gravity Falls, knew for a fact she wanted to only be friends with Gideon. If she wanted to fall for Gideon, she totally could’ve.

But Mabel had her priorities set, and Gideon decided to take advantage her using the fact that he was a prominent public figure. I mean, for crying out loud, he gets the first date by asking for just one to give him a chance. He gets the second one by asking in front of people in a very busy, fancy restaurant. He then gets the third one by showing an elaborate display of affection with fireworks.

Gideon knows how to manipulate people. He even manipulates his own father… like when he yells “I can buy and sell you, old man!” and that’s seen as a valid argument for Bud. Then, there’s the other time where a whole contract between two whole adults is torn up because the child is throwing a tantrum over losing Mabel.

And that’s in THIS EPISODE ALONE.

We also get to see Dipper being the world’s best twin brother ever. He at first doesn’t comment on Mabel having a friend, because who is he to butt into who Mabel wants to hang out with, but when she brings up the date, Dipper casually says that, as a guy, Gideon was going to fall in love with her. He was being upfront and honest, like Dipper does. Then, when Mabel said she wanted to say no later that night, Dipper advises her on how she should just say no. And lastly, when Dipper realizes Mabel couldn’t do it on her own, he offers to do it for her. It was, like, the perfect way for Dipper to handle things.

If Dipper had taken the relationship into his own hands at any point, it would’ve played out like how Gideon saw it- that Dipper was simply getting in between them and that Dipper was being too controlling over Mabel. Instead, Dipper tells Mabel what could happen, advises Mabel on how to handle it, LETS her have a chance to do it herself, and asked to step in when Mabel was distressed.

Good for Mabel for gaining the confidence at the end, but I’m also unbelievably happy with how Dipper supported Mabel throughout the whole relationship.

this is SUCH a good read on mabel & gideon's dynamic and the way dipper supports mabel :] i don't understand the people that say shit about mabel taking advantage of dipper sometimes tbh. like they're siblings, dawg. siblings don't always agree but that doesn't mean they don't care about each other!! this episode is such a good example of the ways in which they care about each other, both with dipper doing his best to help in the beginning and then mabel helping out at the end... truly the siblings of all time <3

But… what if it was a bit different? What if it was WR!Steven having a crush on WR!Mabel who has a crush on WR!Gideon? Cause, this way, it would truly be the opposite of UF.

Instead of Mabel pining for Steven, it would be Steven pining for Mabel with no success.

Cringetober day 18 – fandom AU

The cringiest thing I did so far, as I believe... Weeeeell... Some details:

Gravity Pilgrim AU

Basically, the AU where the Scott Piligrim vs the world is happening in Gravity Falls reality with gravity falls characters. This is happening few years after Weirdmaggedon when Mable (And Dipper) is the same age with Ramona. So here the roles:

Ramona is Mabel. She had a lot of crazy summer romances but she is just trying to move on with someone new. Instead of changing her haircuts she is changing her sweaters. Basically sane Mabel, but kinda too intensive with all of this "move on and grow up" things

Scott is... Y/N. Just whatever you believe Mabel's perfect partner would be. Nothing less, nothing more.

Matthew is Norman... Gnomes... Gnormam. They never gave up on Mabel and keep torturing her every summer. While their first appearance they pretend to be human, but uncover themselves during the battle.

Lukas is Mermando. Instead of skating he is serfing (somehow). Mermaids and humans have become partners and it had lead to establishment democracy in mermaids society. Now Mermando need to travel around the seas and rivers in order to get more voices, but he is not doing very well.

Todd s Gabe. In this reality puppeteers are equal to SP vegans. Gabe can control both puppets and people with his powers. He has become popular puppeteer and is travelling around the world with his shows. Also, Candy is Envy. (Gabe is cheating on her with puppets)

Roxy is Pacifica. After Weirdmaggedon Mabel and her have become really close. One summer they were even dating for few months and for Mabel it was over with the end of the summer, but for Pacifica... She really fall for Mabel and felt betrayed.

Twins (I don't even remember their surname) are Xyler and Craz. After Weirdmaggedon they were all alone in the real world, so they came to Mabel. But she told them to find their own happiness without her. They really tried, but... They were created to love her, and who are they without her?

Gideon is... Gideon. Shocking, I know. He has become a little bit older and kinder, but not to much. Still wants to get Mabel, still has some crazy aces in the sleeves.

Dipper Pines

Ooh boy! One of the two main characters on the show. There's a lot I can say about their dynamic on the show and how Ford projects a lot onto the kid, and is teaching the wrong lessons about everything - from passing down trauma that was passed down onto him (trust no one) to projecting his own relationship with Stanley onto Dipper and Mabel and more. There are quite a few parallels - but there are also lots of differences. And now that they're past all that, I think it'd be a fun time to explore it. AND! He'd have a great time exploring the world and trying to figure out the mysteries of the Stars and why everyone was brought there. Canoodles of fun can be had!!

Mabel Pines

The other half of the show's duo! And the one I feel out of everyone we did not get enough of their potential family relationship in show! Listen. LISTEN. Everyone goes on about the parallels of Dipper and Ford, Stan and Mabel. And you can see in the show how Dipper and Stan relate to each other, Mabel and Stan relate to each other, and Ford and Dipper relate to each other. But Mabel and Ford were never explored. AND THAT'S A SHAME. They both have so many things to explore! Their love of art together, their creativity - both of them have that same mentality. They both wear sweaters (And probably their own variations of Sweatertown haha)! Ford now that things aren't world ending would love to wear Mabel's sweaters. Ford would also feel rather heavy hearing about what she went through with Gideon - seeing the parallels to his own situation in many ways. And probably wanting to dropkick Gideon as well, but that's besides the point! (Did you know they both dated merpeople? Crazy!) OKAY. This is just for me really. I don't like how Ford and Fiddleford made up in the show. I just. Wish there was more time dedicated to it? Cause god! There's a lot of baggage there. Like how Ford was manipulated time and time again into breaking off any other relationship he had, including with Fiddleford (the snowglobe!!! Frilliam :( ) and just trusting only Bill. And he wasn't exactly kind to McGucket either. There's a lot to deal with! Not that Fiddleford is blameless either - leaving his family to work with Ford (listen. even if it's just one-sided there's CLEARLY something going on between them), leaving everything behind, and dragging everyone else and creating a cult. Like even before the portal he was thinking about the memory gun and using it on Ford???? DUDE. Now you could take Fiddleford from end of show. Butttttt....

if you want - you could take him from before the time skip. Would that be a crazy idea? Yeah. But I'm gonna suggest it anyway. But I could dig into it as I just... think exploring the dynamics of a remorseful Ford and a still freshly hurt ready to scar himself mentally Fiddleford could play out y'know? Of course either way is fine! ----
