Is there a name for a character who is the most ugly mother fucker you have ever seen but ends up being one of the most charming Mf'ers ever solely because they are a ugly, disgusting guy, also sometimes has a funny accent.
My proposition is "the devito"

Something I noticed that I REALLY don't like is just how much current borderlands seems to be trying to diminish Rhys and Fiona's personalities and achievements.
It started out with Rhys in Borderlands 3, where Vaughn implied he was fake and that they haven't spoken in years for some reason??? Then it happened again in New Tales, where Rhys was written as incompetent, and an awful boss that fires his employees for having ONE bad idea.
It also essentially calls him a warmonger that's focused entirely on profits, and has no moral compass beyond "the almighty dollar". Going as far as to explicitly state that that is literally Atlas's motto.
Tumblr media
Aside from all that it also says that Atlas is essentially failing and that Rhys has absolutely no idea what he's doing, which is especially weird considering how in Borderlands 3 it's stated that Promethea is finally starting to do well for itself again, and through Echo logs you hear that even Marcus is impressed with how well Rhys is doing.
So for Rhys we have him losing connection with his best friend and being called an idiot, fake, being mischaracterised as a terrible person that apparently learnt nothing and has regressed as a person to a borderline unrecognisable state.
----------------------------------------------
And now we get to Fiona. Since borderlands 3 treats the female protagonist of Tales as if she just doesn't exist, Fiona's story continues in Debt or Alive so...
SPOILER WARNING FOR DEBT OR ALIVE.
Not only is Fiona characterised VERY strangely in the book but they also just give Sasha credit for some of what Fiona does, and Fiona alone tends to be the target of blame in the book. Oh and she gets compared to Handsome Jack for good measure.
Tumblr media
To start off with, Fiona doesn't even get her wish from the Vault of the Traveller. She gives it to Sasha, and Sasha wishes for a rare Vaultlander figurine of Typhon DeLeon which is destroyed a couple of chapters later. So not only does Fiona not even get to use her wish but the product of the wish gets destroyed anyway so it's entirely pointless.
Fiona also just decides to not be a vault hunter. That conversation she can have with Rhys SECONDS before this happens, about how it suits her, about how she's sad the adventure is over? It's just ignored. She immediately gives it up because she doesn't want Sasha vault hunting and getting put in danger again. Sure she still likes vault hunting but it is immediately given up. (I could write a whole other post about why this bugs me and I probably will).
Fiona has flaws that are addressed in the books, as they should be, all characters have to have flaws, but she is the only one out of the sisters to have flaws addressed. Sasha's are treated as if they don't exist, even when they're very apparent. Fiona learns to not be overprotective, and that she can't stop Sasha from doing things she wants to BUT Sasha doesn't learn anything. She does impulsive things that endanger both her and Fiona, and her risking their safety for fun or on a whim is just never mentioned. (Again something else I'll definitely talk about in another post).
Fiona is also consistently the one who comes up with the plans in the book, while Sasha is either not doing anything or suggesting they take the easy way out. Fiona is the one to start removing the debt cuffs from people while Sasha stands there bewildered, asking what she's doing. Fiona is the one to come up with the plan to scam the billionaires so that they can use the money to free everyone from debt while Sasha suggests just funding Gaige's revenge scheme (and assumedly just abandoning the people in debt??). And Fiona is the one to figure out how to get into Holloway's panic room and save everyone.
Fiona having her moments to shine would be great if they consistently didn't end with her being called an idiot, getting badly hurt, failing, or at one point being compared to Handsome Jack of all people. (Additional point: Sasha doesn't even defend her when she's compared to Jack, which is weird and very out of character.)
This might be petty but the book also gives credit to Sasha for Fiona surviving Bossanova's murder rally in Tales. Which is really weird considering Sasha and Fiona were separated during the entirety of that event. So instead of mentioning a time where Sasha actually helped save Fiona, like in the bio-dome when she was caught by Finch and Kroger, I guess they're actively retconning an event to give Sasha the credit. For some reason.
Fiona also has to confront Sasha about how she's treating Rhys, but then like a chapter later she literally apologises for all that, despite having every right to call Sasha out for that. So again Sasha's flaws are not being recognised as actual flaws and instead it's Fiona who's somehow in the wrong and Sasha learns nothing. Sure by the end of the book she considers Rhys her boyfriend but she is never the one to tell him. Fiona is, because Sasha just doesn't bother to, because it never treats her as someone who has to grow as a person. Sasha is usually either just used as a plot device to progress things or just doing almost nothing while being given credit, instead of being developed like a proper character. I'd call her a shell of what Tales Sasha was but even that feels too generous.
I used to really want to see the Tales characters in other borderlands media, but at this point I just dread it. Because why would I want to see my favourite characters being wildly mischaracterised and mistreated by the franchise?

An assortment of Borderlands headcanons that I have saved up and I'm on when I'm going to ramble about these, but I'm doing it now. LET'S GOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Tina would sometimes crochet whenever she fidgets, these would result in cute little yarn plushies that she would give to her friends.
Despite being one of the smarter vault hunters, Maya has shown to be a little dense at times (like one time she asked Lilith if she has extra closet space for her books, Lilith only responded with the most deadpanned face ever imagined while Maya was waiting for an answer) You can blame the monks for that.
Ironically despite being called “The Firehawk” Lilith has a mild phobia of birds (huge ones specifically) She’s ok with small ones like with Bloodwing and Little Talon, though she was taken off once she’d noticed Talon grew way bigger than Bloodwing did.
Hammerlock likes to collect novelty nick-nacks (tea/coffee cups, souvenirs from gift shops, those singing animatronic fish trophy's ECT) and has also dragged Wainwright down the rabbit hole into collecting little trinkets they’ll find while on holiday (One being a paperweight that looked like a eldritch squid god that he keeps on his desk)
Gaige having ADHD is something that everyone agrees with. But I like to add that while she can spend hours reading multi chapter fanfictions on the ECHOnet, she however can’t finish an actual book and would spend hours skimming the same two pages and getting a headache from it. However give her a comic book/graphic novel (something like The Bone series) literally anything with pictures and she can easily get though those in an afternoon.
During her recovery, Angel has taken to age regression to cope with what Jack did to her. Lilith and Gaige understand and would help with her coping.
Clay is definitely the type of guy that can’t be labeled (sexuality wise). But at the same time he’s not too picky on who or what he likes and is open to whatever.
Wainwright and Alistair would host the best house parties hands down, especially during the holiday seasons.
Example: On Bloody Harvest, The Jakobs Manor would become a haunted house attraction filled with all sorts of spooks and treats and during the summer season, the two would invite the Raiders for a big cookout/pool party.
Moze has Hirsutism (excess hair growth in unexpected areas of the body) though it is hardly noticeable because
1. It's usually around her chest and stomach which she would shave off (just because she's a soldier doesn't mean she has to give up personal care and it's really itchy)
And 2. She's been taking hormone medication so it does reduce it
However she'll have some days where she would forget to do either due to mental shutdowns.
Despite Outer Krieg's violent tendencies, he is no moron. He has a very strange patchwork of knowledge, it's anyone's guess what he knows about any given topic.
Tyreen has a deep fear of dating/romance, this mainly stems from the idea that it'll end up like with her mom and dad.
Maya has a very soft spot for children. She really hates the idea that adults would use and abuse one for their own personal gain (like what happened to her)
There have been some days when Maya would use her powers to do the most stupid and mundane things, like phaselocking and feeding herself a pizza because she's too lazy to use her hands.
Unknown to herself and everyone else, Maya has the ability to sense ghostly/supernatural presence. She gets a feeling like she's being watched at times.
Contrary to popular beliefs, the Handsome Jack and Typhon DeLeon vaultlander figures are nowhere near valuable. Ironically it's the Claptrap figure that's the most valuable and most rarest.
Typhons """"""fame"""""" has been dwindling ever since it's been reveled that he's nothing more than a gross deadbeat that took other people's credit, and newer generations of vault hunters see him as a poser
Maya has Astraphobia (fear of thunderstorms). This stems from when she was a kid back at Athenas, if a storm comes by the temple, she would hide and freeze up, praying for it to end. This trauma stems further with the fact that back then she didn't have anyone to go to for comfort.
While thunderstorms are very uncommon on Pandora (at least in the part's where the Raiders reside) when they do come, Krieg is right there to comfort her throughout the storm.
(more TBA later)

Okay, so, I know I mentioned that Pandora = Pandora’s box and yeah, but this also kinda falls into the borderlands universe (TBU if you will) taking a lot of inspiration from Greek mythology. Sirens and sirens. Athena and Athenas. Prometheus and well you get the picture.
But can someone explain to me where Nekrodefayo is in Greek mythology? Because there is clear, blatantly obvious parallels here but I don’t get this one?
Hell even certain people aren’t exempt from this so did the eridan homeworld get a lil neglected where’s as Leda Calypso and Typhon DeLeon got a mythological call-out but not something that hyped up to be somewhat important?

Borderlands: Skies the Bodyguard 5
Skies explores Nekrotafeyo.
*Links to previous and next chapters in reblog*
--
Chapter 23
           “Nekrotafeyo!”
Sanctuary III blasts through hyperspace, following the beam of light coming off of Elpis. In the bridge, Lilith, Tannis, Ava, Claptrap, Skies, and the Vault Hunters wait excitedly.
But nobody’s more excited than Skies.
“Nekrotafeyo!” she cheers again, “I can’t believe it! A lost, untouched, abandoned alien planet- this is like a treasure hunter’s wet dream!”
“And an archeologist’s,” Tannis agrees, “also Typhon Deleon, the first Vault Hunter. Ooooh, I’ve always wanted to meet him.”
“Focus, you two,” Lilith scolds, “he said this concerns the end of the universe. There’s no time for playing around.”
Tannis and Skies nod seriously but glance at each other and grin.
“We’re here,” BALEX announces as the ship comes to a stop.
Everyone looks out in awe at the grey planet before them. A green light is erupting from its surface, causing a good chunk of it to blast to pieces into its atmosphere.
“So this is the Eridian home world,” Tannis breathes, “after all this time…”
“Ooh, I can’t wait to get my hands on all the ruins,” Skies chitters excitedly.
“Shouldn’t you go meet Typhon? He did call you after all,” Lilith points out.
“Eh, the Vault Hunters should get that honour first. This is Vault Hunter business,” she argues, “I’ll meet him later, after I’ve satiated my hunger for exploring and treasure.”
She rubs her hands together eagerly as she heads for the door, but Moze stops her. “Wait, Skies, one thing.”
“Hm?” she questions and the Vault Hunters grab her angrily by the front of her shirt.
“Quit stealing our boss fights!”            Skies chuckles, holding up her hands in surrender. “Okay, okay, I promise.”
Together, she and the Vault Hunters head down to the cargo hold. While they get into a drop pod, she flies her ship down to the surface of the planet.
Skies watches the scene fly by eagerly, looking for some nice juicy ruins. She finally lands the Sky Rider on a ridge with a nice view of the surrounding environment. It seems to be made mostly of stone and overgrown vegetation. Not too far in the distance is a large structure with red light blasting out of the top like lava from a volcano.
“Okay, let’s see what we can find,” she says as she gets out and heads down to the nearby ruins.
A cluster of thick, red vines immediately blocks her path but those get easily cut away by her bladed fist. However, as she enters the ruins of what could be some sort of temple, the first thing she sees are Maliwan barricades.
“Maliwan!” she barks into her ECHO communicator. “What the hell are Maliwan doing here?”
“We’ve found Maliwan too, but they’re all dead,” FL4K replies.
           “Not by us…yet,” Zane adds.
“How could Maliwan have known about Nekrotafeyo?” Lilith questions, “stay sharp, guys.”
“Ugh, so much for this place being lost and untouched,” Skies groans with disgust. “Now Maliwan has their gross little fingers all over these ruins. They better be all dead already, or they’ll have to deal with me.”
Fortunately for Skies- and unfortunately for Maliwan- she does find a camp set up deeper in the ruins, filled with soldiers. She grins with sick delight as she grabs her assault rifle.
“Hey, Maliwan~~~,” she sings and a soldier turns to look, only to get her bladed fist straight through his visor. He gags on blood as he falls to the ground.
The surrounding soldiers quickly ready their weapons. A few well-placed shots from Skies’ rifle takes out a couple of them as she ducks behind cover. She switches to her pistol and begins head-shooting each and every soldier as she weaves in and out of cover. They don’t stand a chance.
Once the whole camp is massacred, Skies leans against a barricade and reloads her weapons, sighing. “That wasn’t as satisfying as I was hoping.”
Once ready and loaded, Skies grabs her ECHO communicator. “Hey, Vault Hunters, you find Deleon yet?”
“Not yet, but we’re almost there,” Amara replies.
“Okay. I’ll start making my way towards you guys.”
“Want us to wait?” Moze asks.
“Nah, nah. You go ahead. I said you should have the honour of the first visit. I’ll get there when I get there.”            Skies hooks her ECHO back onto her belt and continues through the ruins.
She doesn’t find anymore Maliwan soldiers as she exits the temple, but she does run into the local fauna. The Nekrobugs charge her immediately, but they’re easy enough to handle; barely a challenge as Skies strolls through the forest, casually shooting them with her rifle.
Eventually, she finds an end to the forest and drops down into more Eridian ruins. It’s an enclosed space surrounded by high stone walls and a corridor on one side.
“Looks like a boss arena,” she remarks drily.
“Your journey ends here, Vault Hunter!” an obnoxious voice barks as a Maliwan heavy soldier lands a few feet away. “I’m gonna end you, for my name is Daniel Traunt!”
“Hey, whoa, whoa, whoa!” Skies exclaims, “I’m not a Vault Hunter.”
“Huh, you’re not?” he questions, “you look like a Vault Hunter.”            “Rude.”
“Then why you heading for the Vault?”
           “I was just exploring randomly.”
           “Oh.”
“Well, look, I love killing Maliwan as much as anyone right now, but if you’re looking for the Vault Hunters then I should probably leave you alone,” Skies says, “I promised I wouldn’t steal anymore of their boss fights, so…”
“Hold on, I can’t just let you leave,” Traunt declares, “you ain’t Maliwan, so that makes us enemies.”
           “That’s really reductive.”
Traunt begins firing a volley of shock orbs. Skies quickly scrambles out of the way to dodge.
“Hey, dude! Knock it off!” she exclaims “this will only end badly for you!...and for me! I don’t want the Vault Hunters mad at me!”
“Taste the fury of General Traunt!” he shouts and shoots a large shock orb into the air. It hovers there for a second before releasing multiple smaller orbs in all directions. Skies ducks behind a pillar for a cover.
“Would you give it a rest?” she barks.
           “You cannot hide! Traaauuunt!”
           “Jack’s sake, you’re annoying.”
Skies dives out of cover and begins making a break for the corridor. As much as it stings her pride, she’s got no choice but to run from this loser.
But before she can make it, Traunt gets a direct shot on her. Her body convulses from the electric shock, the blades on her right arm popping in and out, and she drops to her knees.
           “Yes! Traunt!”
Skies growls angrily and reaches into her coat. “I said…knock it off!”
She whips out a bomb and detonates it right at Traunt’s face. The force makes him stumble back but his shield took most of the damage.
He quickly shakes off the smoke and looks around but Skies is nowhere to be seen.
“Runaway, did you? Coward!” he taunts.
A chill runs up his spine and he looks back to see Skies leaping at him. He exclaims with surprise as she latches onto his back and starts cutting into his canister with her blades.
“Stop! Get off!” Traunt cries as he spins around, firing wildly. But Skies holds tight, attacking like a rabid animal.
Steam starts rising from Traunt’s canister. Skies flips off of him, knocking him onto his face.
           “Oh no,” he whimpers.
The canister explodes, destroying every inch of General Traunt.
Skies pants as she glares at the smoldering pile left behind and takes a couple of deep breaths to lower her blood pressure.
           “Skies!”
She turns at the accusatory voices as the Vault Hunters drop into the arena.
“O-oh, hey, guys,” she says guiltily.
“We told you to stop stealing our boss fights!” Moze snaps, pointing at the remains of Traunt.
“Look, listen, I tried really hard not to fight him,” Skies insist, “but he was such a dick. I was seeing red.”
           They huff with aggravation.
“Oh, come on, don’t be mad. You can have whatever loot he has. And I promise I won’t steal anymore boss fights after this. For real.”
           They just grumble.
“Did you find Deleon?” Skies asks.
“Yeah,” Zane replies, “I’ll send you the coordinates to his camp.”            “He said he has a way of stopping the Destroyer,” Amara adds.
           “Really? How?” Skies asks.
“Some kind of Eridian machine,” Moze replies, “but we need a fourth Vault key to get to it.”
“He told us where to find it,” Fl4K adds, “we’re on our way to it now.”
“Okay, cool,” Skies says, “I’ll go meet him and get the details. See you, guys.”
They wave as she passes by and climbs out of the arena.
Following the coordinates they gave her, Skies makes her way through the ruins. It’s quiet now, since the Vault Hunters took care of any enemies along the way.
Exiting into a large, rocky desert area, she sticks close to the mountain side until she finds an opening and goes inside. She continues following her map until she reaches a dead end.
“Hm,” she muses, looking from the wall to her map. “According to the coordinates, the camp should be right here…maybe…secret wall?”           She reaches for it and it suddenly turns translucent as her hand passes through. “Secret wall. Nice.”            She passes through into a large cave, illuminated by glowing orbs hanging from red vines. As she makes her way along the rocky ridge, she reaches a large metal platform chained to the ceiling of the cave. She starts to step onto it when two robots block her path.
           “Halt, intruder,” one says seriously.
“Yeah, not another step,” the other says, more cheerfully.
“Hi, I’m looking for-,” Skies starts to say but gets cut off.
“Not another word,” the cheerful one demands.
“You shall turn back around and never speak of this place,” the serious one orders, “or face my wrath.”
“No, face my wrath!” the other argues.
“No, mine.”            Skies groans with annoyance. “Ugh, I am not in the mood for this.”
“Grouse, Sparrow,” a voice suddenly calls out from deeper in the cave. “What’s going on?”
“We have an intruder,” the happy robot replies.
“Nothing I cannot handle,” the serious one adds.
A man approaches from down the platform- stocky with a cybernetic eye, a pair of goggles on his head, and a shock whip in hand.
“Ah, you must be the treasure hunter,” he says, “the Vault Hunters told me you were coming.”
“And you must be…” An excited grin stretches across Skies’ face. “Typhon Deleon.”
           He smiles back.

I need to remake my theory wall from 'theories before Bl3 released' to 'theories after Bl3 released' bc I have so many more thoughts that require physical lines of string connecting them and I need a refresher on my Commander Lily lore anyway so this is the perfect excuse for a deep dive into the ECHOes of Hector and the gang do you think we get a damage buff from the spores because they're synthesized with the Vault Key sort of like how Sirens get a buff from Eridium but clearly too much all the time will kill them (Angel) like how breathing in the spores too much will kill/mutate us? Though I think the eridium will mutate anyone in contact with it too much the spores are new they're new though. Maybe that's too much. I think i can work the synthesized stuff in though with the badass psychos (I think I did already though in that one post with Krieg AND and the Lost Legion and bloodwing and threshers and crystallisks but there's more now) and Gythian Blood though I think it'll work I need some screenshots though but I'm tired now so I'm going to bed. Good night <3
There's so much I want to talk about we need to talk about >:V

(I'm gonna go right for the hornet's nest.) What do you think of Typhon de Leon?
He’s not one of my fave characters, or like him as much as I do when it comes to other bl3 new npcs like Wainwright, Lorelei, Ava... but I don’t hate him either? And I don’t get the hate he gets either?
Sure he ain’t Borderlands dad of the year (and not letting his kids leave Nekrotafeyo was bad), but apart from Gaige’s dad, Brick and Mordecai with Tina, Grace’s and maybe characters I’m forgetting about rn... who is? I find interesting that the famous first vault hunter is just a regular guy with tons of luck and flaws like every other character in this series. That said, he gets hit by bl3′s story flaws too, and wish he showed up a bit more concern for what happens to Troy instead of pushing to the next step of what we gotta do. And also I would have cut the sexual references, bcs damn Typhon, I don’t need to know when and where you and Leda did it. Okay, you fucked, you have two biological kids to prove it, can we move to Vault stuff please?

Borderlands really has a common theme of dad's doing something insanely stupid that they believe is for the benefit of their children, only for it to really screw up their kids lives.
Sure it doesn't have it in EVERY game but it's common enough for it to be a pattern.
You got the obvious one of Jack imprisoning Angel because she can't control her powers, with him believing it's the right thing to do while it very obviously isn't (especially once he started y'know using her as a battery), leading to her betraying him and sacrificing herself to help stop him.
Tumblr media
Then you got the Calypso twins being kept on an isolated planet by Typhon DeLeon, because he believed it was the only way to keep them safe despite them feeling like they were being imprisoned, leading them to go full cult leader and go try to take what they believed was "rightfully theirs", which ultimately lead to their deaths.
Tumblr media
And then you have Felix betraying Fiona and Sasha, stealing the ten million dollars from them, believing that it would get Hyperion and Vallory to lose interest in the girls and go after him instead, which ultimately lead to them being chased across Pandora by bounty hunters and putting them in life threatening danger.
Tumblr media
Also all three of them die (Felix's death being dependent on the players choice), with their deaths at the very least being indirectly caused by their daughter, as an act of revenge for their mistreatment. Angel helping the Crimson Raiders leading to Jack's death, Tyreen killing Typhon with her powers, and Fiona being able to shoot Felix and let him explode along with the money.
...So what I'm saying is maybe it's time for some of the fathers in borderlands to get some mandatory parenting classes.

yknow what. here it is. my full borderlands rewrite/fix-it/theory??? notes. enjoy.
the 6 siren powers are phasegrasp, phaselock, phasewalk, phaseshift, phasesight and some other power that im not sure about. there's also phaseleech, the 7th siren created as a failsafe. said powers are rebelled guardian souls (unbound by fate) that, upon "possessing" a being, can only be banished on death OR near death. and yes, siren vessels can survive near-death if they give up their powers
phasesight grants one psychometry, the power to read the "memory" of a place, as well as clairvoyance, the power to see remotely
all vault monsters (except the ones that were said to be constructed by the eridians or look artificial, like the traveller or graveward) are actually a part of one race of abominations called the primordials. the eridians discovered them and the amount of influence they have on the universe and tried to seal them away
vincent was capable of possessing vessels because primordials can influence, possess or even merge with sentient beings. sirens can detect their influence
it is possible to shield against the power of the primordials using what can only be described as occult means. sigils, crystals and other flashy things all work provided you believe they work. this is why vaults that contain the primordials are so ornamental and grand - their intricate shape is part of the ward keeping the primordials in (and it's also why the machine looks so magical. that's because it is)
typhon deleon is mostly replaced by leda calypso, as in she's the one who leaves logs everywhere. leda is also a phasesight siren - phasesight is an unusual non-combat ability to read the "memories" of objects or places (as if they were imprinted on by a siren). she dies in childbirth and Sight is inherited by commandant steele who uses it to find a vault and quickly ascend the ranks of the crimson lance
angel lives through bl2 (Shift fucks off and possesses tannis) and is subsequently kind of adopted by wainwright ("angel's mom was a jakobs" is basically kind of canon so.... yeah. also, asshole absentee father gang) plays a minor role in the eden 6 arc, can be found on sanctuary afterwards. tries to hide the fact she used to be a siren but fails because of, well, we know how tannis is. this they/she demigirl is in love with gaige and in this essay i will
nisha fakes her death to get away from jack and manages to find aurelia. the two become a cool  "be gay do crimes" duo of girlbosses. sometimes they vaulthunt together sometimes separately but they always keep in touch
aurelia lives because she isn't really the arc villain. she's a rival, she's a vh opposed to the crimson raiders but she's not evil. also she's at first completely unaware her unfunny brother's on the same planet, so there's for lots of weird funnies and Hammerlock Bickering (tm)
the vault of the traveller contains 2 primordials, the tricuspid star and the rotation of fortune. the star merges with rhys and the rotation merges with fiona. rhys just kinda doesn't figure out how to use his powers ever. fiona uses hers to become a legendary vault hunter.
tyreen betrays troy. she leeches him almost completely (enough so that he loses his siren powers) and he's forced to either work with the raiders or die. ofc he accepts to help the vhs stop his sister as he has nothing else to live for anyways. he befriends angel :). also tannis forces him to wear an actual shirt lmao. also also he becomes a video game streamer
after that happens, tyreen slowly gives into the destroyer's influence over her. it calls on to her, even kinda possesses her (like in that scrapped "Evil" echo portrait) technically nothing special happens here except the final boss is more climactic and there's more foreshadowing to it
maya lives... well, at least through the vault part. she still dies but her death is ACTUALLY MEANINGFUL. basically: lilith lives and doesn't fly into elpis, maya does. i mean come on it makes sense with phaselock and all. ava inherits phaseleech (ah yes tyreen and jack, the two people who continue to fuck shit up even after death).
after gythian dies, wainwright inherits its power. basically he merges with what remains of the monster and gradually becomes a primordial himself (just very underpowered and in the general shape of a human)
also wainwright eventually adopts troy.

Eternals Ascended
One thing I wish there was more lore on are the Lost Legion Eternals. For being part of the primary enemy faction in The Pre-Sequel, there isn’t much solid information on them, but I have my theories.
There is a similar post that was along the same lines here [X].
TLDR; Eternals are essentially failed sirens- or, just as possible, proto-sirens.
Tumblr media
If sirens were stars, Eternals are dwarf stars.
Their weird appearance seems to mostly be body modifications, as closer inspection shows they’re wearing a mask, and what little you can see underneath that actually looks relatively normal, with the exception of glowing eyes and (in Zarpedon’s case) hands.
Their powers are related to most of the established Siren powers (the possible exception being Tyreen);
Tumblr media
Eternal Phasewalkers are the easiest to connect- it’s IN THE NAME. Phasewalk. They turn invisible, and blast back into existence like Lilith’s base phasewalk, but it’s obviously imperfect. You can see traces of them, and they do not pass through dimensions, and as such can still be hit while invisible.
Tumblr media
Eternal Tempests are the Phaseshift powers. They have Siren-esque wings, just less bright (and purple like the rest of their color schemes). It’s a bit of a stretch, since Angel’s powers are only seen from an NPC perspective and never in combat, but the electricity connection is there, as well as Angel’s constant hovering (this is seen in more sirens later, but at the time she seemed to be the only one that did this).
Tumblr media
Eternal Magus are the manifestation of Phaselock. Like Maya’s Scorn ability, they lob orbs of slag your way- but they’re deformed, and not as clean looking. The orbs are also somewhat similar to the ones Troy sends your way during his boss battle, but not as bright, well formed, or as many (granted he was tripping on Eridium). They likely have some form of the base phaselock ability, but for gameplay reasons this would be unfair. You could also argue the connection with Amara’s Phaseflare for the projectiles.
Tumblr media
Eternal Frenzies are trickier, but may be connected to Amara’s Phaseslam with it’s melee focus, and firing attacks from the palms of their hands. Less to say about them for now.
Tumblr media
Eternal Instabilities are the only ones without a clear connection, for one primary reason- they are complete failures to stabilize (as in the name) and quickly die, exploding and damaging anyone nearby.
This leads to the question; “Why aren’t there more pseudo-sirens if it can happen to anyone?”
From here on out is almost entirely headcanon backed up by observation, since we don’t have much to go on.
Obviously exposure to a vault is key, but this also leads to ask why the normal vault hunters or someone that LIVED in a vault like Typhon DeLeon never developed any kind of power- or the psychos driven mad by vault exposure on Pandora. This could be unique to the vault on Elpis, as well as what sounds like some kind of slag runoff around it, but I think one factor is the fact that it sounds like the vault was cracked open (perhaps during the Crackening), causing whatever force that is inside to leak out and affect the Lost Legion soldiers stranded there. It wasn’t fully open until Zarpedon found the relic, and the length of time exposed caused the changes in the soldiers. Maybe when a vault is fully closed or fully open, this isn’t an issue, but Elpis was clearly already open in some capacity.
Another aspect is Eridium. While Eridium (originally) could only be found on Pandora, the vault inside Elpis is full of purple mineral, which is likely Eridium as well (or at least something similar). We don’t see any Eternals far from the vault, unlike the rest of the Legion, so it’s likely they can’t go far from the influence of the vault.
Tumblr media
The Eternals also appear to stab themselves with a chunk of eridium before ascending, so clearly that has something to do with it, but that can’t be the only factor because we know that simply ingesting (and since this is Pandora probably stabbing) the stuff doesn’t do anything but kill you, so the eridium is likely the final push before fully ascending- like Sirens powering up. Not only that, but when they do ascend, they seem to grow Eridium crystals over their body, and when you defeat Zarpedon she’s clearly bleeding some kind of glowing purple liquid- essentially their blood turns to some kind of eridium solution.
This leads to the connection to Sirens. Since Zarpedon was also effected but didn’t become a true siren, it’s not a case of women turn into Sirens and men turn into Eternals, and who becomes a Siren has nothing to do with vault exposure. Maybe the first Sirens were created using a similar process, but only six(seven?) were truly successful, and continue to be passed on, while Eternals simply die out. Perhaps the Eternals are what Sirens used to be, and never evolved past this stage, like a kind of proto-ancestor.
Tumblr media
I know this isn’t Borderlands related, but think of it like this. Eternals are like Eevee- they can learn many moves from the other evolutions, but once the true Siren powers evolved, they became the Eeveelutions; much stronger, and focused in one specific area.
While most only use one power, there are some (gargantuan) that are shown to use multiple, so it’s entirely likely that all the powers are available to them, but weaker ones only develop one. Maybe this evolved into the full Siren powers, which each took on one distinct power and purified it, making them infinitely more powerful and with more capabilities than any Eternal. Also unlike Eternals, they can survive just fine outside of the vault without any exposure to Eridium.
In any case, there’s a clear connection between the Lost Legion Eternals and Sirens, but until they’re acknowledged by Gearbox again, we can only guess.

I love how detailed this chapter is, can tell how much work you put into it
Sepulchre - Chapter 3
Tumblr media
>>> Story: Read The Tags | CH1 | CH2 NSFW! | CH3 Little NSFW + Medical Content | CH4 ??? >>>>> Music: Ambient & Retrowave
Events leading up to and immediately after the birth of the Calypso Twins: a love story and a story about Leda and Typhon, though I wouldn’t call it a love story about Leda and Typhon. Inspired by “Tlön, Uqbar, Orbis Tertius”, Bianca by Guido Crepax and those “naughty” fairy tale anthologies from the 90’s.
Since my third reaction to Tyreen and Borderlands as a whole was "When we were born, our father had to cut him off of me" = "Excuse are we going to get more details on that??" well, here's more details. A lot of them. Some less pleasant than others.
So, there you be. That's what it's like to be pregnant with twin space witches who turn out to be stuck together; something that will never happen, but which someone has written about nonetheless.
Also, the chronological first time for the fish thing from Satellite (also NSFW). If you don't know what I mean, maybe have a look.
