I unfortunately picked up Bravely Default 2 again (I bought it back when it released) and then started over since I last played it in June 2021. And. You know what. I like these silly beans. And then I saw concept art for Dag's expressions and I am not the same. Why did they decide to give him huge fangs in it.
(also I'm trying so hard to avoid spoilers less for plot but more for characters so if you know anything that happens to characters shhhhh. also the expression concept is below the read more so you can see what I mean.)
Ouu okay okay how about kunikida + another character of your choosing and "Where exactly do you think you're going?"
i spun a bsd character wheel, and it landed on tachihara!
Tachihara quietly closes the door to Jun's door behind him and lets out of a soft breath of relief.
"Where exactly do you think you're going?"
He freezes, then slowly turns around to see Kunikida with his arms crossed.
Da.mn, of all the people to catch him, it just had to be the one with a major stick up his a.ss, huh?
"Hey, man," he says, slowly raising his hands. "I was just, uh, dropping something off."
"This early?" Kunikida raises a brow.
"Yup." He pops his 'p'. "I'm an early riser. So, if you don't mind, I'll be on my way--"
Just as Tachihara is about to book it, he sees Kunikida's eyes land on his neck. His very bruised neck. His neck that is covered in bite marks and hand prints that he plans to cover up when he gets back to his place.
"If you think that's bad, you should see the other guy," he blurts out.
Kunikid's eyes widen, and Tachihara thinks now would be a good time to pass out or, perhaps, keel over a die.
"Sh.it."
"Sh.it indeed."
"Look, dude, we really don't need to get into this, okay? It's perfectly natural for enemies to hook up every once in awhile. The whole fighting this is sexy sometimes! Sue me!"
Kunikida does not seem impressed.
"Gah, look. Just... please don't tell anyone, okay? He isn't ready to be out yet and he's terrified of disappointing you so--"
"Tachihara-kun."
His mouth snaps shut.
"I'm not..." Kunikida drags a hand down his face. "I'm not disappointed. Just surprised and... just don't let it get in the way of work and for the love of God, please make sure Kenji-kun and Kyouka-kun don't walk into... anything."
Oh thank GOD.
"That won't happen, trust me. We usually do it at my place but Naomi-chan is away for the week, which you obviously know, and there's something kinda hot about sneaking around here."
Kunikida wrinkles his nose.
"I don't want to... whatever. Does Naomi-chan know?"
"Heh, no. Not yet, anyways."
Kunikida nods. "That's probably for the best. She's really smart, though. Dazai trained her for a bit, and Ranpo has taken her under his wing. It won't be a secret for long."
"Yeah, we kinda figured." He scratches the back of his neck. God, this is awkward.
The silence starts to get to him, and, because Tachihara has no impulse control, apparently, he snorts and says: "What you aren't going to threaten to kill me or anything?"
A slow grin starts slinking up Kunikida's face. "I don't see the point in wasting my time when I know that Naomi-chan will threaten you in a most effective manner."
Kunikida clears his throat before Tachihara can properly process the threat and adjusts his collar (but not before Tachihara sees a patch of yellow and purple...) and bows. "I trust you can see yourself out."
"Yes, sir, I can!"
He's not about to refuse the out Kunikida so graciously gave him, so he shoots Kunikida with finger guns and bolts down the hall calling, "Seeya!"
I really love all the actors on hotd (especially Clinton liberty since he’s on TT and just seems so happy to be there! ) but I really, really, really hope there are different writers for these last seasons, I think they’re going for 4. Yet I keep hearing about budget cuts so I hope that doesn’t hurt this project more
hi, kim 💗 so sorry for the late reply btw! i totally agree with you! the actors of HOTD all seem so lovely and they were definitely doing their best with the scripts they were given. regarding this season, i have so many mixed feelings! there were some really cool moments that i absolutely loved:
> daemon in harrenal was my favorite arc of the season (and alys rivers became my favorite character this season too!)
> 'the red dragon and the gold' was an AMAZING episode
> 'the red sowing' was such a cool episode as well and it FINALLY gave us a grey character moment from rhaenyra
> alicent/criston was such an intersting dynamic too! could've been explored in more depth and with more complexity… 🗣️ IF THE SEASON HAD MORE EPISODES 🗣️
> obviously: the cinematography was stunning, the soundtrack phenomenal and the dragons looked amazing!
and for all the criticisms i had of alicent's character this season, i can definitely see what they were trying to do with her arc, and i wouldn't have minded if it had happened later on in the show, perhaps? this 'redemption' feels too rushed, it feels like the writers/the people in charge just want her to be a 'likeable' character so bad, if that makes sense. the scene between her and rhaenyra in the last episode, as beautifully acted it was (and with an intersting parallel with helaena also having to choose one of her children in the beginning of the season), it didn't make much sense to me. it seems the writers are like 'see guys??? alicent is ACTUALLY on rhaenyra's side!!!'. and i'm like… what happened to season 1!alicent? what happened to 'you are the challenge, aegon, simply by living and breathing'? to 'now you take my son's eye and to even that you feel entitled'? to 'what have i done but what was expected of me?'. and even this season, when baby jaehaerys was k*lled? the pain and trauma inflicted on her family, on helaena (and even aegon!)? i'm just so confused and dissapointed with this season, really... again, i don't think i minded if this 'redemption' arc of alicent happened, had it been done with more time to fully develop BUT ALSO… why are the writers so afraid of actually making her a character (or any character really...) consumed by her trauma, her grief, her pain?
why is everything in this show a mistake, a misunderstanding or a miscommunication? i think one of the things i loved the most about season 1 was how 'aware' these characters were of their actions and motivations, you know? even if they were questionable and 'not right'. like, rhaenyra was straight up lying to everyone's faces about her kids' parentage, she faked laenor's death (causing imense grief to rhaenys and corlys) just to marry daemon and strengthen her claim to the throne... alicent demanded that a kid's eye was removed as a form of justice and when that proved fruitless she attacked the heir to the throne in front of everybody (the king included)... like!!! what happened to moments like this? moments driven by pain and trauma? moments that actually told us so much about these characters and what they were going through?
this was waaay too long so sorry lmao but i don't know... i just wished we saw more complexity overall this season (and more drama™️ lol). the foundations were all there from season 1. to me, it was a bit of a shame. but it's just my opinion on the matter, it's totally okay if other people feel differently 😌💗
Ok so the aforementioned OC universe is known as IDPS, short for Interdimentional Pizza Shop (and Mercenary Work)! There is literal YEARS worth of lore and ideas put into this thing I love it so much :D
This version of Artic is the one in my pfp, and who the oc: artic tag refers to lol- Basically she's embodiment of the season of winter, a huge dragon enthusiast, and the much-needed voice of reason!!
She's not a "true" skeleton per se, like she's not undead, she's just kinda in the shape of one- Though she can disconnect and reattach her bones like a cartoon ouo
She has ice powers, but not in a "shooting ice beams out of your hands" kinda way, it's very contact based!
She can freeze things by touching them, she can make a layer of ice under her feet to sliiide around super fast, and sometimes she physically freezes up under stress so you have to wait for her to thaw out akjfds
She can pick up your drink and little ice cubes form in it, in whatever shape she wants! And when she cries the tears freeze up so there's just little bits of ice on her face you gotta wipe off
In IDPS there are these things called essences, which are the super concentrated (and super illegal) form of a concept, usually in liquid form like a potion. Like if you poured a drop of Essence of Princess onto an apple, it would turn all sparkly and have a big bow on it!
Artic just naturally has the Essence of Winter in her bones instead of blood or marrow! So she doesn't have to worry about vampires bc they'd just get a really bad brainfreeze lol
She mainly fights with dual blades made of ice, inspired by Monster Hunter's dual blades! She's a very strategic and speedy fighter, her movements almost dancelike in combat, and she likes to use the terrain to her advantage!
And since this is a multiverse story, she actually goes through the story mode of Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, saving a village from a giant sea monster! The gal who gives out quests in that game, Aisha, is like an older sister to her hehe ouo
So Artic is a licensed monster hunter, and she is absolutely FASCINATED with these creatures and how they work. And after some shenanigans in her childhood town in the mountains, she even starts her own sanctuary to educate people and care for dragons that wouldn't make it in the wild!
Here she's shipped with Ink Sans, and they live together with her dragon pet / companion Blizzard ouo!
It's this really sweet little story about Ink showing this really anxious and sheltered girl the world, seeing all the potential and life in her eyes and wanting to see her blossom.
And there's a scene where Ink is trying to hide his condition (basically he's undead and needs to drink magic paints in order to feel and regulate emotions), bc so many people have left him after finding out. But Artic doesn't mind at all, after all it's still him and she likes him for who he is ouo
The two are basically opposites, but they work well together and they're just silly little guys in love ouo
Artic's main arc is about identity and archetypes. Like how winter is often portrayed as this harbinger of death that needs to be driven away, but Artic is really soft and sweet-
She wants so desperately to be a hero, but the archetypal hero is confident and charming and brave and super strong; everything she thinks she isn't. But in reality, she's the most heroic of her peers because of her kindness!
There's a whole theme of knights and dragons and legends, realizing that those notions of what she should or shouldn't be don't define her, because people are more complex and nuanced than that ouo
THIS IS SO COOL OUGHHHH I LOVE IT I LOVE IT
My FAVORITE part is that there's literal years of lore built into this thing. Clearly it has been crafted with nothing but love and care in mind and I think that's beautiful.
I didn't even realize that was Artic in your pfp?? That's so cute I love it so so much :DD (Is there a high definition version I can look at? I wanna see her clearer!)
ARTIC'S POWERS ARE SO NEAT IN THIS!!!! I want heart shaped ice cubes that's actually so cute. And the way her abilities affect the way she experiences stress and cries? Chef's kiss. Do her ice powers affect her whenever she experiences other intense emotions? And also can the thawing out process be helped by blankets and stuff or does she just stay frozen? Oooh or does she just continuously keep refreezing bc of the stress? Like trying to thaw her out helps a little but not for long and not much? SORRY I'M JUST SO CURIOUS I REALLY LIKE THE CONCEPT OF HER POWERS AFFECT HER BASED ON EMOTIONS THAT'S SO FREAKING COOL-
And essences!!!!!! Oughhh I really like the concept (pun intended)!!!!! Is there an essence for every concept or just certain ones? And vampires getting brainfreeze LMFAO. Can you drink an essence or does that turn your organs into the concept? And is Artic the only person with an essence in her bones or do other people have it?
THE COMBAT YES OMFG I CAN SEE IT SO CLEARLY,,, STRATEGIC AND SPEEDY AND DANCELIKE I LOVE IT!!! She's so intelligent using the terrain!!! I can see her in my head looking around, eyes darting quickly to survey the area as she narrowly avoids an attack before making her next move!! Effortlessly she slashes her opponent when they're not looking due to her adaptability and quick thinking.
And I'm so sorry I don't know anything about Monster Hunter whatsoever </3 BUT I DID SOME RESEARCH FOR YOU OFC AND IT LOOKS LIKE SM FUN???? I didn't get much of the story aspect of it but it seems great omg. Anyways Artic's curiosity is always something I love seeing!! I can see her killing this giant sea monster (Lagiacrus, I presume?) and then being like "wait a moment- I know this thing was terrorizing you all but I want a closer look at it-" AND FOUND FAMILY MY BELOVED OUGHHH ARTIC AND AISHA <333 THAT'S SO CUTE,,, and the sanctuary <33. Artic is so caring it's so sweet!! It's completely refected in her character and everything she does, I think. Not just in IDPS but across the board! Like. She saves this village from a sea monster and she wants dragons to be taken care of because she's just like that natrually. And even in like Buttermilk Daydreams she just wants to take care of The Onceler as best as she can!!!! And in the Biggering AU even though she's MAD at this man she's STILL telling him that they'll figure something out (they always do). Sorry I'm literally IN LOVE with the threads that stitch your AUs together I got so sidetracked LMFAO-
But anyways Artic and Ink Sans being opposites is SO GOOD AAAAAA- Artic feels so deeply and Ink doesn't feel at all without the paints. Artic has been sheltered and Ink has seen too much. And there's Artic's sweet and caring side coming out again!! Ink is afraid to tell Artic about his condition, but Artic could care less.
ARTIC SELF DISCOVERY YES YES YES YES YES!!!! SHE DOESN'T NEED TO GIVE INTO THE STEREOTYPES!!!!!! She's not winter even though she has its essence flowing within her. She's a hero even though she doesn't look like it. And her kindness being the thing that makes her most heroic?? I'M IN LOVE. This is what I was talking about earlier!!!! She's just so caring and sweet!!! It's something she uses to her advantage!!!!
wait omg i’m curious about your unpopular thoughts about temenos writing wise.. i love when people discuss octopath writing it’s really enriching to see what we all have to say about certain story elements. plus you’re like a temenos representative to me. your thoughts about temenos make me go “so true!”
Aw, thank you! It took a while for me to decide on what to write here, since honestly I could go on for… frankly any aspect of this guy, especially in regards to treatment in fanon. But for now, I'll focus on my thoughts regarding how people treat tragedy in Temenos' story— namely, Crick's death— and why I personally dislike it as a writing decision and why I disagree with the idea that it is necessary.
Note: Goes without saying, but this is my personal opinion. If you believe otherwise, then that's all good. I'm not writing this to say that any one person is wrong, just to talk about an issue I have with the game's writing itself.
To start, I'll say that my main reason for disliking Crick's death in SH route is a matter of practicality. Killing him off causes Temenos to lose the main person that he had a fantastic relationship and banter with, and in my opinion, Temenos works best when he's bouncing off another person; not unlike most under the Sherlock-archetype.
Also, genuinely? It works wonders to keep Crick alive, if just because it provides a fantastic avenue to explore Temenos' institutional trauma. Having a character that's lived a different experience but within the same harmful institution opens up ways to explore the scope of its harm. And yes, this is for Crick specifically; not Ort, not the travelers, but Crick.
I think it really adds something that Temenos was raised by the church while Crick converted as a teenager during a really difficult time in his life. These two are good for each other. Crick sure as hell makes it a lot easier to write Temenos in fic.
(If you have a different experience, again, that's cool. I'm glad for you. I, however, will never fail to take the easy way out.)
(This is a lie, I'm over here making up fantasy church law for fic stuff but that's not related to this answer.)
I won't pretend that disliking Crick's death is an unpopular opinion. I mean, "Stormhail Fix-it" is an entire genre of fic on the OT2 Ao3 tag. What I do feel tends to go unaddressed though, is the fact that the idea that Crick's death is canon, therefore it is necessary, therefore it is the best decision; an idea that I wholeheartedly disagree with.
Within the text itself, Crick is killed off in order to give Temenos a personal reason to pursue Kaldena, thus putting him at odds with Kaldena's motivations being driven by her ideology and worldview that, "because humans committed the massacre, it was the gods' mistake to put us here". I also won't pretend that Kaldena's writing here isn't fucking awful, because Crick's death is also a device to make the player want Kaldena defeated even though she is just as much as a victim of the church; and that's to say nothing of her portrayal as an indigenous and dark-skinned woman.
These decisions are ones I disagree with. Killing Crick off was unnecessary to give Temenos reason to pursue the culprit, because Temenos already had someone close to him killed; and that's Pontiff Jörg. He raised Temenos from infancy, but due to the lack of focus on him outside of banter conversations, it's never relevant to his motivations outside of the desire for truth because a crime was committed.
We also didn't need to kill Crick off to show that the church was a terrible institution, because Roi already went missing in action. The Sacred Guard is the main body of law within Eastern Solistia, it's not unreasonable to think that the reason why Temenos dislikes them is because they clearly didn't do shit to investigate his disappearance.
However, one thing I really don't agree with is the idea that Crick's death is necessary because Temenos' story is a tragedy. And if you asked me why, I'd ask this in turn: why is death the only form of tragedy? Furthermore, why must a tragedy contain only tragic events? That in mind, what gives anything value in a tragedy, then?
Pretend we cannot completely rewrite Temenos' story. Even then, changing Crick's death to a permanent injury, a coma, or whatever is still a tragic event; and that's nothing to say of living with the consequences. Isn't losing your faith a tragedy? Isn't losing something you worked for years to do a tragedy?
Similarly, I'd still argue that it's more valuable to make Stormhail a near-death experience because not only does it show Temenos succeeding in making someone question the church but also the terror that is feeling like you're doomed to repeat tragedy. Even if you really aren't, it's hard to dismiss that feeling; especially when it has to do with being victimized by institutions.
And before someone says, "but bad things happen to good people in real life", I'm not treating these characters as living, breathing people who are subject to things like gravity, hunger, and exhaustion. I'm treating them as choices, and choices made that I disagree with.
It's why I make different choices. I choose to make Crick have to deal with chronic pain onwards. I choose to make Temenos realize change is still possible. I choose to let them both leave Stormhail alive. Are these better choices? I don't know. But I'll never stop questioning the ones made by the writers regardless; much less stop disagreeing with them.
So, in summary: I dislike Crick's death. I dislike Temenos having to spend the rest of the story without someone he can talk to so easily because Crick's absence weakens a lot of his scenes in Temenos 4. But more than that, I dislike the idea that tragedy is necessary on top of the idea that it is superior. Tragedy's good, I adore the genre; but written in mindful doses and all that.
Ur tags about how Miles and Pavitr are the ones who say "I can do both" because it IS quintessential spiderman thinking AND because they're too young to have seen that devastatingly not work yet. BUT the thing is they are RIGHT but only if it's "we"! Spiderman's mythos is inherently a lonely one reinforced by Miles and Gwen's isolation and by every. single. intro. reminding us that every spider person is the "one and only spider person"! And yet!! These films are just about relationships (1/2)
YES YEAH YOU GET IT !!!! and (quite recently rewatched it and mentioning it here cause i can't believe i forgot to mention it in the post you're talking about) it really gets me that gwen also says 'i was doing both' in regards to protecting miles and protecting the canon event, and i love that the phrase was reflected like that, even tho (at this point of the movie) miles and gwen pretty much oppose each other in views/priority !!
it also absolutely kills me the way that gwen begins (like you say) atsv quitting the band and isolates herself, and then throughout the whole thing she finds something/someone that she wants to take that leap for, all over again :') she (and the entire spider-team!!) is willing to bet everything on miles and is ready to fight for him, and i really just love the idea that miles just is a force that inspires good !!!! IT REALLY IS ALL ABOUT LOVE!!!
