Hi, hello, not dead just buried in schoolwork now that I'm in my final year (college applications, moving to a new house, driving lessons, 2 or 5 exams every week and can't forget that I got sick)..... So yeah not dead, but certainly looking like it.

Anyway Arcane season 2, I think ep 6 finally gave me depression and the show in general made me cry more than I did at my grandmas funeral. So I decided to share some of my head cannons that I had before season 2.

Silco braids Jinx's hair in styles his mother taught him, while singing, telling lessons, stories, poems, folklore, plans, day events or just complaints(post season two comment: can't believe I got so close with the hair thing, the braids were probably taught to him by Felicia, Jinx mother, but still I think Silcos mother taught him how to do hair)

‌Zaunish or old Zaun is russian

Old Zaun was a secret code that everyone in the mines knew so they could talk in peace, without a threat of getting beat up by supervisors, it eventually spread to their families so that they can protect themselves from enforcers, eventually everyone knew

‌Noxian is german

‌Piltovian is british english (english is a universal language, but some places made it their own eg. american, australian, british(the cockney accent is how Zaunites speak it))

‌Viktors name in old Zaun is Vitya

‌ Victor scares everyone when actually angry or in a sleep deprived mania

‌ Victor was a slut during his academy years, because everyone wanted some of that exotic Undercity twinks ass, so him saying "wait this isn't my bedroom" wouldn't have surprised anyone and could have worked as an excuse if Jayce hadn't opened his mouth

‌ Sevika had a sister that died in the bridge rebellion

‌Sevika and Silco are like siblings (Silco is most definitely the little spoiled brat sibling that can fuck you over if he convinces mom, in this case he is the little spoiled brat that can stab you and also has an army at his disposal)

‌ Sevika dislikes Jinx/Powder and Violet, because they (before the explosion) reminded her of herself with her big sister, it makes her uncomfortable how Jinx turned out and Vi "died"

‌Ekko still has a crush on Jinx/Powder (post season two comment: btw I meant he had a crush on her when she was Powder that stayed until canon s1, not the alternative universe Powder) even tough she changed (The bridge scene makes me cry) (post season two comment: we won but at what cost)

‌Ekko has hallucinations when he's inventing/building of Jinx that he talks to and interacts with( they build together and bounce ideas of eachother) (post season two comment: fucking hell how did I manage to hurt myself more)

hope I’m not bothering you with this ask but I was curious about your opinion on jinx’s possible ‘redemption’ arc with the ekko/firelights team up being confirmed and how that might affect her connection to Silco since I’ve seen some theorize the thing she’s leaving behind is her past with him (?)

imo Jinx does not in any way need a 'redemption' arc. Arcane is very good at flipping perspectives and showing different facets of the same dilemma from various characters' POVs.

The genius is that, in doing so, it actually boots morality out the window and focuses instead on each character's journey thru the lens of cause and effect, ex. The Day of Ash leads to mass generational trauma in the Undercity, and Vander, Silco, Vi and Powder respond to the trauma in different ways; Jayce and Viktor unleash the wonder of Hextech upon Piltover, and inadvertantly carve the sweet, sweet scars of hubris (and neoliberalism!) upon both their better selves and those closest to them; Mel longs for her family's acceptance and her mother's approval and is willing to go to manipulative extremes to put Piltover on the map, only to end up with a powderkeg Undercity beneath her feet.

Etc.

The point being, Arcane is not a story about right and wrong. It is a story of high-stakes consequences that come from playing with forces you cannot control - be it magic, love, power or supernatural PCP-coded drugs. The crux of the debate is less about who is the hero/villain in the show, and more about how the characters can evolve as more cohesive people who see the world from a broader perspective - and seize the agency to change their social circumstances for the better, in healthier, more inclusive and empowering ways.

With that in mind - no, I do not think Jinx will 'team up' with the Firelights at the expense of rejecting her connection with Silco. More likely, she'll accept that both Ekko and Silco are a part of her past and her present identity, and hopefully use these relationships as building blocks to connect with other people (and reconcile wwith her sister), because it's her self-loathing and fear of 'jinxing' things that keeps her isolated more than any insidious influence Silco may have wrought upon her mind.

Also keep in mind that at the end of the day, Ekko, Jinx, Vi, Vander and Silco were all underclassmen struggling their way out from under an oppressive and brutal class system that profited from pitting them against each other. The differences in how they chose to fight back against said system are each a result of their trauma, and how it shapes them towards paths of extremism, pacifism, civic engagement and anarchy.

But, again, they are all in the same boat - and that boat is on fire, sinking and has nitoglycerin in the cargo hold.

And 'Progress' is holding the matches.

tldr: Arcane is not a show about good and bad characters and redemption should, ideally, have little bearing on character arcs.

The series is, however, a wonderful showcasing of the different motivations that drive passionate people to do extreme things to heal a personal wound - and the effect of those choices on both a personal and societal level, depending on how much power the characters wield.

watched the s1 finale with my sister two days ago (but it was like semi-late when we finished watching and then some shit happened the next day so i didn't post her thoughts until now):

i jokingly called the show a masterpiece sometime after we finished watching and she went "i wouldn't say that" so do with that what you will

If you take one look on the season 2 poster you will get it (though I have not seen it yet so going mostly by season 1). Little sister psychosexually obsessed with older sister. Big sister chronically incapable of not protecting younger sister. Both dependend on the other for their own sense of identity. Jinx takes one look at the sister's love interest and not only goes crazy with jealousy but also tries to make Vi choose between them. They both say the other are the reason they haven't killed themselves in the time things were really bad and they were apart.

I totally wrote way more than I expected to but here u are! <3 I’ll do a separate post for ofmd and soc bc they have so many characters I have opinions on.

Agere Character Headcanons

Arcane

Vi: As much as she’d be a wonderful caregiver, she’s absolutely a regressor. Being small reminds her of days spent with her parents and Powder, family trips to the fish markets of the coast and sunny days building sand castles at the beach. She tends to be on the older side, a natural tendency from a life spent as the older sibling, taking care of Powder. Vi’s a very active and vivacious little, playing outdoors and hanging off Caitlyn’s shoulders. Loves physical touch, hugs and high fives are the way to go.

Caitlyn: Caregiver all the way! I think she loves kids in general, and despite her awkward nature and sheltered upbringing, she finds it easy to take charge and step into the role of a protector. Definitely looks after Vi and is oftentimes too concerned about her safety. She loves taking the little out to the playground and to eat at Jericho’s food stall (even if she still refuses to eat a bowl of slop herself).

Jinx: Tiniest, cutest, moodiest little troublemaker there is. Jinx regresses to about four or five years old, and absolutely bounces off the walls at all hours of the day. She’s not the quiet, sweet child she once was as Powder, but rather gets herself into trouble and feigns innocence. She loves to annoy both Silco and Sevika, clambering on the latter’s lap and hiding under Silco’s desk for games of hide and seek. Her mood changes rather drastically as well, as she can go from completely happy to hyperventilating sobbing from anything as simple as scraping a knee to refusing bedtime.

Jayce: He’s a very attentive and high strung caregiver. Looking after Viktor is much easier than Caitlyn, Silco, or Sevika’s jobs, but Jayce always fusses over the little. He’s quick to scoop him up whenever it’s deemed necessary, and goes to Mel for help when he needs another pair of hands. Jayce loves caregiving because it gives him something to focus on other than his responsibility to Piltover, and enjoys simple play with his little like story time and building blocks.

Viktor: Super small and quiet regressor! Viktor can get very young, and has no qualms with depending on Jayce for help when he’s little. He likes to be snuggled up on a couch in a mound of blankets and is also content to sit and watch Mel paint the ships that go by the balcony of her apartment. Viktor is sweet and shy and doesn’t tend to verbalize his needs, but because Jayce is so attentive they mesh well together.

Detroit: Become Human

Kara: Caregiver. Need I expand? It’s in her coding in the first place to protect and nurture. Upon her deviance, Kara realizes that even if she was made for it, she can still reclaim that part of herself for herself. She is quick to console whomever her little may be, and projects the kindest and warmest energy to the person she’s taking care of. Kara enjoys making up her own stories, and loves playing make believe with her regressor.

Connor: One hundred percent a regressor. This little guy was shy and uncertain when he first started regressing, as he didn’t know what ‘normal’ behaviour from a deviant was, let alone how to process all the new emotions he was feeling. Connor loves to spend time at Hank’s house with Sumo, revelling in the feeling of the dog’s fluffy fur and laughing happily when he teaches Sumo all sorts of tricks. Connor is usually happy when regressed, but struggles with anxiety and asking for help. Hank is always there to walk Connor through his big feelings and encourages him to use his words.

Markus: He’s one of the most chaotic caregivers there is. You picked the pacifist route in the game? Doesn’t matter. This guy is unhinged when it comes to caregiving. Spoiling his little at any time possible, letting them stay up hours past their bedtime, giving them candy for breakfast and encouraging colouring on the walls. He spent so many years being exactly who Carl wanted him to be while also tasting freedom through Carl’s art that it brings him so much joy to see a regressor’s eyes sparkle when he says yes to whatever their heart desires. He’s also amazing at comforting a regressor. Big hugs and gentle eyes!

Avatar: The Last Airbender

Katara: Is a caregiver! Incredibly kind yet less patient than one (Sokka) might hope. Katara is quick to caution her little, always on the lookout for anything that they might hurt themselves with or on. But this doesn’t mean she hates fun! She adores the beach and using her bending to splash around, and is always ready to get her little an extra blanket or any snacks they ask for. She’s super sweet and falls into the role of a caregiver like she was made for it. Katara has even sewed a plushie or two as gifts, and has a knack for settling a regressor in front of a crackling fire and braiding their hair before bedtime.

Sokka: Regressor for sure. Even though he’s a big brother he never let go of his goofy side, and it plays into so much of his behaviour when he’s regressed. He’s on the older side, around 6-8, and has so much energy he doesn’t know where to put it all. Queue him running around for hours, laughing at absolutely anything that Aang says and bothering Toph just so she’ll play with him. Sokka doesn’t cry, even when he takes a tumble (which is quite often) but is fussy when he doesn’t get his way. He’s a troublemaker, but his beaming smile lets him get away with plenty.

Aang: Honestly I think he’s a caregiver, but is more like a fun uncle than any other label. His sage airbender wisdom doesn’t come through often, which means he’s all about fun all the time. His childish side matches a little like Sokka’s constant energy, and he seems to vanish into a cloud of smoke when any tears come his way. And how did Sokka and Zuko get chocolate all around their mouths, you ask? Well, there’s no one to ask because Aang’s just taken off on his glider on some very important business.

Zuko: LITTLE! REGRESSOR! TINY! Oh my goodness, he’s the first fictional character that I ever headcanoned as a regressor. There’s no need to delve into his trauma here, but the boy is in such a desperate need of healing his childhood that he regressed long before he even knew what it was. Regresses very young, between 2-5. Before meeting the Gaang he’d hang off of Uncle’s shoulder during Pai Sho tournaments on his ship and would shyly ask the crew members to play songs during music nights. His tough demeanour disappears completely when he’s regressed and he turns into a shy boy that is insistent on doing things himself and is quick to cry when he’s unable to, for example, wrap his robes the way he wants. Zuko has a turtleduck plushie that Katara sewed for him after Aang asked him what his favourite animal was and Sokka caught him cuddling up to Appa at night. Sweetest boy in the whole world.

Toph : Caregiver! Matches more with Aang’s style of caregiving than Katara’s, but still lands somewhere in the middle. Her earthbending gives her the ability to pick up on every tiny emotion that a regressor feels, and it means she’s prepared and in tune with every need, happy or unhappy, that someone needs. She tends to playfully tease Zuko and Sokka, but knows exactly where to draw the line with either boy based on the rhythm of their heart. Toph helps Aang when it comes to letting the boys do something Katara has specifically told them they’re not allowed to, and will always feign innocence when confronted by the eldest caregiver.

ambessa saying "how could i not secure the scientists" honestly is so life changing to me bc before she was all around strategy and combat... but looks like she can also think about them. maybe it's more "how could i not secure the only people that know how to use hextech (the weapons i want to use)" but it's still nice to see she values brains just as much as brutes. + it shows self reflection skills and i think that was important for everyone to see — no, she DOESN'T think she's always right (like it kind of seemed in s1), she can see and admit when she was wrong

also wasn't rictus the traitor? i'm pretty sure that got revealed/foreshadowed hard in episode 3... maybe this is just a prediction and i'm just tweaking though (this is being typed as i watch the episodes, so if it's revealed in act 2, it's after i type this). + we've seen lots of misdirection in season 1 so it wouldn't surprise me if it was teased and then it ends up being maddie or something

I haven't watched purgatory streams cuz I am too busy rn, but here's some hcs

- Only emotionally charged scars stay on the body. Like both Phil and Fit have their scars because they felt so betrayed. The other wounds heal with respawn.

- Fit thought that Pac not only helped to kill him, but also agreed to be a bait to lure 2b2t veteran in a trap. After this "betrayal" Fit's eyes change.

- as a dumbahh who watched arcane, I really like the idea of eye changing with emotional stability. Like powder — blue/grey eyes, Jinx — pink eyes. So I have a HC that after the incident Fit's usually brown eyes change to almost toxic green eyes.

- Fit has severe PTSD about 2b2t. The betrayal triggered it and now he doesn't trust people.

- also Fit has 2b2t gravured in his prosthetic arm/gauntlet.

- every time étoiles kills someone, they have a star shaped scar.

- Phil has star shaped scar. Also the majority of his scars from nightmare and code fight. Also some from earth smp.

- Phil had a very speedy, flying oriented battle type. Now he has a different fighting skills, but likes to attack from above (using paraglider)

- Fit's battle skills are way more grounded, he puts way more force in his punches and swings. He also used to fight with only gauntlets/bare hands, so he's a master of hand-to-hand combat.

- Étoiles is just a goat, but he's something in between. He's also very grounded, but is jumpy.

- Roier is a funny but quiet kid, when it comes to battles. Nobody expects it, but he's a pro. He's super good at breaking through shields and at unarming opponent.

- Fit and Phil train together, and it's fun. But sometimes when crowza accidentally triggers PTSD, Fits fighting style suddenly changes. He now doesn't fight to better his skills, he fights to survive. His punches become more chaotic and heavy. They both apologize later.

- Jaiden is literally "I'm a helpless little girl. And j set the building on fire by accident, tooootaly by accident. Also I brought this dynamite. Goodbye:)" And then everything blows up. She's the epitome of "act weak when you're strong".

- Pol (i sadly haven't watched any of his streams cuz of language barrier, but I think he deserves more recognition) only pretends being oblivious and indifferent towards federation. Like he's the first person from all frozen members to remember his past and cooperate with cucurucho.

- I kinda feel like Rubius is one of the old residents of the island.

- Aypierre is Ayanami Rei (/j but I honestly don't understand his lore. I use Tumblr as a news channel and I still don't know what happened to Pierre. Is he ayrobot? Do they now share a body???)

- after the nether Forevers hair go to shoulders.

- Rubius once was just a man. He was an original old resident. After a few years of working with people on the server he was promoted to an angel/devil entity. For it was funny at first, but soon enough it became boring, cuz he wasn't allowed to interact with people apart giving them quests. So he disguised himself as a man and left the island. Later he came back on train with everyone. For escaping and messing with people, giving them illegal stuff ect he was demoted and "fell from heaven". (This HC has literally no reasons, but I like it.

- Carre likes to stretch like a cat.

- team bollas sleep close to each other, but don't go under blankets, cuz in their base there's literal lava above the celling.

- Fit is severely touch starved but he doesn't always trusts enough. During qsmp he became more affectionate, and started to initiate touching. He always puts his hand of someone's shoulder to comfort them (baby steps). I don't feel like after purgatory this stays like that.

- it's not my headcanon, but I adore when people draw Bagi muscular. Like, I dunno why. But I love it so much.

- Missa is a real skeleton, so when death duo reunited for the first time, Phil literally detached wet cat's skull from the neck, yelling "WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN"

- Some people have things that represent their close ones. Phil has skull, trinket (is it how it called?) of his kids on his back, flowers from forever, star keychain from étoiles and a bomb from Fit. Fit has Philza's feather, a necklace with a pacman on it, a bolt from Tubbo, and Ramon modifies his arm a lot. Ect ect.

- waaaay back when Slime went on a rampage after Juana's death, Fit called him to a tête-à-tête dialogue. At first he pushed Slime to the tree and put elbow on his neck, but during Charlie's monologue he let his guard down and even wanted to place his hand on the shoulder. Yet before that they were interrupted by Roier. (Also Charlie asking advice and trusting Fit all this time was quite sweet. Like, he even asked advice when dead eggs came back)

- during purgatory Phil balances himself with weapons.

- Charlie always suspected CodeFlippa wasn't the real one, but he deliberately chose to ignore that. Ignorance is a blessing.

- gladiator by Jann but Étoiles, you see what I see???

- Phil and Fit are terrible sleep bros. When they went to adventures with kids and had to sleep in the open, Fit couldn't sleep, listening to players steps, and Phil tried to figure out mobs. Also they play footsie (they said it on one stream, this is cannon. I really dunno are they besties or homos anymore)

- one of the ways to know if an avian on the server is sick is to see how their feathers react to water. If I'm correct, irl birds have a special stuff on them to not get wet. Only birds with sickness appear to be wet (mb not all birds are like that, I don't remember)

franziska von karma - ace attorney. THEEEE favourite character of all time ever since the first word she says: "revenge." i could write 10 paragraphs of everything i love about her but i'll save you all from that. but perhaps the best thing about her is that she breaks the cycle without even knowing it, and proves herself a better person than her father without compromising her identity. <3

childe - genshin impact. also loved this guy upon his very first appearance. a character who got into a traumatic situation when he was young and gained eldritch powers because of it? and nevertheless remained an optimistic person? but also wants to gain strength and power at all costs? say less!

wyll ravengard - baldur's gate 3. ummm need i say more? fine, fine. he's so charming and handsome and dork supreme and king of whimsy, but most importantly, he's kind, despite everything he's been through. it takes an enormous amount of strength to remain hopeful and kind, and a lot of people (unfortunately) overlook that. also his character trope--paladin-coded warlock--is so so interesting and--[gets dragged off the stage]

shiv roy - succession. she's so sucks!!!! i love you selfish and arrogant babygirl who not only has daddy issues, but has mommy issues too. i love you shiv who would do anything for power and is the most like her father and gets trapped in the cycle anyways!!!

azula - avatar the last airbender. azula did nothing wrong.

severa - fire emblem: awakening. i love you insecure babygirl who overcompensates for everything by being abrasive. who feels like she's living in the shadow of her perfect mother. who ends up just like her mother in a darker timeline, protecting the exalt in an (un)requited love (lucisev truther btw)

jinx - arcane. i like her in the game but i love her in this series. i was really astounded with her character, what happened to her as powder and her parallels with her sister vi, and how she became the jinx we all know and love

mako mori - pacific rim. i love her dynamics with stacker and with raleigh ;___; also her sparring scene was soooo gooooood. the entire movie is just great, favourite of all time

claire - fleabag. i love claire's entire character and her juxtaposition with her sister fleabag, who's a mess. eldest daughter energy. learns to be selfish and pursue what she truly loves instead of maintaining her reputation at the expense of her well-being. also i just really love ambitious over-achieving characters

eve polastri - killing eve. i'm ignoring season 4 but god, i love the way her character changes throughout the series. she's so enthralled with villanelle and she hides it under the guise of pursuing an assassin but really she's so fascinated by her and it leads to her ruin as she keeps pursuing her with no regard for anything or anyone else in her life.

I love that take and I love disagreeing with it too! and i don't say that in a cynical ironic fashion, i genuinely love the train of thoughts we're having

don't get it wrong, my take isn't by any means in the history of forever better than yours or more valid or what not, it’s just different and i’d love to have this conversation!

I do agree that caitvi stepped away from the whole Piltover/Zaun plot as in they don’t represent it, but I don’t think they did in the first place. Cait always connected to Vi not in spite or because of her connection to Zaun but on a deep human (lesbian) level, kinda in a colorblind manner. Of course she was brought to see Zaunites living conditions but Vi never really got into the Pilt/Zaun conflict. After Vander’s loss, she wanted family and didn’t care for independence or what not. I don’t think she’d fight against it — that’s not why she joins the enforcers — but Vi, because she was in jail for 7 years and has since repeatedly lost her people over and over again, didn’t really get involved with that conflict to me. Like her mind was elsewhere (Powder, Milo, Claggor, Jinx, Cait, Isha, Vander)!

I also don’t think it’s Viktor and Jayce. Well, I don’t think it’s season 2 Viktor and Jayce, although it is clearly season 1. We see in their relationship the way they try and mostly fail to bridge the gap because of the Zaun/Piltover conflict: Viktor needs them to work fast because Zaunites are dying and they need fresh air, clean water, food, safety; while Jayce gets lost in politics and, per his privileged position, can afford prudence and experimenting and not putting things in application. Both are understandable positions, Jayce minds what his mentor tells him about being careful so that he doesn’t accidentally ends civilization (that’s what Heimerdinger warns him about) while Viktor needs things to move now or else he’s doomed and the Undercity stays miserable.

Season 2 Viktor and Jayce do bridge a gap together though, but not necessarily the Piltover/Zaun one although they clearly contribute to it. They basically pull Viktor back: enough of this robotic magical grand evolution, it is time to come home love. basically. This is Jayce opting for calling to Viktor and not fighting him, therefore putting forth the importance of humanity. This is more acceptance towards ‘imperfection’ and humanity than towards Viktor as a Zaunite. Same as Vi and Cait, this is love independent to who they are on the map. Which, yeah, is a way to bridge the gap between them but it doesn’t solve the Piltover/Zaun issue. Season 2 Jayvik is much more personal, it’s about them two as individual and not part of their groups, it’s not about Piltover and Zaun.

Thematically though, choosing togetherness instead of fighting to impose your will is clearly the way the show portrays Zaun and Piltover’s reconciliation (or at least the beginning of that attempt since the show is pretty open-ended on that point).

So, saying that they aren’t Pilt/Zaun coded isn’t wrong per say but their own arcs mirror the cities’. I don’t think they’re meant to be its representatives though.

No, for this I’d argue on other pairs!

Heimerdinger and Ekko for starters! Heimerdinger, after being fired and coming to the conclusion that he can not help the Undercity as is, meets Ekko. And then they work together and Heimerdinger is willing to bypass the law and there is genuinely mutual respect and an acknowledgment of Piltover’s oppression of Zaun. That’s generally what I think miss from that second season by the way, Piltover’s characters never really acknowledge Piltover’s responsibility in what happened with the Commune, Silco, Jinx.

Except Shoola! Her!

This picture is (a part of) Piltover standing with Zaun. And yeah, it’s at the very end and it’s followed by the disgusted faces of the other councilors, but Arcane season 2 does not offer a conclusion to the Piltover/Zaun conflict. It offers seeds of resolutions that the characters will have to grow themselves, against all odds at time. Whether we like it or not, that’s essentially what the show is doing.

So, yeah: s1 Jayce/Viktor very much the Piltover/zaun situation; s2 Jayvik still yes but in a much more parallel way and not so intertwined with the actual events; Heimerdinger/Ekko yes until it can’t happen anymore because uh-oh Heimerdingain’t; and then Shoola/Sevika but we get one shot of it and then it’s gone.

Caitvi does give examples of reconciliation and mostly they support the show’s main theme: love is always how things happen (Singed, Cait, Vi, Jinx, Vander/Warwick, Isha, Powder, everyone).

Does that make sense or am I going insane on the side?

dont kill me for saying this but i kinda think jayvik did the piltover-zaun relationship thing better than caitvi, especially in the second season. to me some of caitlyn's empathy towards zaunites seems to be linked to her relationship with vi. she's sympathetic towards them because she cares about vi and in season 2 we can see that this has its limits. when vi joins her squad she's more than comfortable with gassing undercity citizens to find jinx at all cost. and jayce also sometimes slips up and shows contempt for the people in zaun, mostly because of his lack of perspective on the issue and the pressure that the terrorist attacks place on him as a council member. but viktor calls him out on this in the bridge scene and jayce immediately apologizes

not only that, but jayce later takes care to include him in the council meeting when discussing zaun's independence and calls attention to him during that meeting. he's symbolically presenting zaun as equal to piltover by calling viktor his partner and a zaunite. given how often vi and vander did the forehead touch thing, it's possible that that's also a zaunite gesture which gives more meaning to jayce pulling viktor into it in the astral plane. he respects viktor's identity as a zaunite and makes sure that viktor knows it

during caitlyn and jayce's conversation in the garden when caitlyn thinks about getting revenge for her mother she says that she finds it easy to hate them, but that remembering vi is what pulls her back from that. and i think it says a lot about how much they dropped the ball with caitlyn's character that there was so much less lasting tension between her and vi in the second season even though caitlyn was so much more radicalized in her position. i just wish theyd really challenged caitlyn on her support for the people of zaun being conditional

Adding to my list of characters who im pretty sure have did or seem did coded to me:

Jinx from arcane

Other than the fact that someone else watched season 1 way before we knew about our did, and were now rewatching it because we forgot it all… now we know about did! And why we were like ‘haha jinx is so me.’

Jinx in followed around constantly by ‘apparitions’ of mylo and claggor. It’s as if they talk to her. But they don’t front. They’re not mean. They’re not hallucinations. They’re a part of her she seems to carry.

Jinx isn’t just a new name for powder- the two are alters. Jinx was forming just before the incident, but that was what caused the final split.

I’d be willing to bet that jinx has some more alters too.

I reckon jinx wouldn’t know about this. But the way that she’s shown in s1 and how it feels like we’re seeing her from one perspective but also many, a broken person who’s still whole? Idk it just gives me system vibes, and we KNOW that she has long term childhood trauma and ptsd.

Anyway jinx is system coded and I’m adding her to my inventory of characters with did which now includes the long quiet, princess Luna and jinx.

The more I think about Wonderlust and Arcane, the more I realize how many parallels there are.

Obviously, Piltover=Every city above the ground. Zaun=Every city below the ground.

Runt and the Streetrats are Vi, Powder, Mylo, and Claggor episodes 1-3. Specifically, Runt is powder.

They’re both inventors that want to be seen for their worth. They both mess up the first time they’re allowed up. They both grab a suspicious looking magical item that causes their family to (almost) die. They’re both pottymouths.

They’re very “curiosity killed the cat” coded.

Hextech=The Coal. They’re both glowing magical, yet contained, items. At first Hextech was meant to be to benefit Topside, but then it was turned into a weapon, similar to how Troy thinks that the coal is only powering janitors and things that aren’t meant to hurt, when in reality they’re weapons, at least to the people stuck below.

Silco=Aeon. They both are leading their cities with an iron-fist. They just want to provide freedom for their people, but their methods of doing so are morally ambiguous and it’s clear there could be better leaders, but this is all that the city has.

Caitlyn and Vi kind of remind of Troy and Blink, but only because Troy needs Blink to accomplish his mission(to get home) in the same way Cait needs Vi. Also, Cait and Troy are both ignorant to what happens in the lower city (though I think that’s where the comparison ends because Cait would NEVER beat the shit out of someone because she stuttered 😭).

And Blink is similar to Vi in the context of survivors guilt and being enemies of the leader of their city (Blink almost unwillingly).

Also Troy’s steamsled is Ekko’s hoverboard. And Gam Gam is that one old lady who runs the brothel. I will not elaborate any further.

I’m sure there might be more, but this is all I have at the moment. Also DISCLAIMER, I’m personally not mad that there’s so many similarities because it’s clear that Wonderlust is made to be original despite of it was inspired by Arcane or a coincidence, so no hate from me :))

First up on the playlist is Cutthroat by Imagine Dragons.

I think this song would work really well as a theme for season 2. Imagine Dragons did such a great job on the season 1 theme (Enemy) and I think this one fits the darker direction the show seems to be going.

The next song is Bang Bang Bang Bang by Sohodolls.

After that is So Below by Code Orange.

I think this one fits the sort of steampunk/cyberpunk vibe of the show, and I could see it being played while establishing a new setting (Like the way Playground did in season 1).

Then we have Empire Now by Hozier.

Hozier hasn't been in the Arcane soundtrack so far, but his music fits the tone of the world really well. I think it would also be a good idea for the series to feature some of his new music, and this song in particular seems to almost tell the tale of Piltover and Zaun.

I really like these lyrics, which talk about the hopeful future of an empire that is going through rough times. In a hundred years, the battles that are being fought now will be the foundation people build on. I think Arcane's story is going in a similar direction-- it may be scorched-earth levels of conflict now, but ultimately that conflict leads to a more hopeful future.

The next song is Teach Me to Fight by YONAKA.

This song has such Vi energy. It fits in perfectly with her personality-- I could see it being used in some kind of training montage especially.

Similarly, I picked Vertigo by Alice Merton for its vibes alone.

The song after that is Goliath by Woodkid.

Would it really be Arcane without a Woodkid song? I made this playlist before the trailer came out, so now we know for sure he will have an original song featured in the season 2 soundtrack, but out of his already released music, I think this one works really well.

These lyrics in particular are reminiscent of Vi and Jinx's relationship, with Vi eager to forgive and Jinx in a hurry to distance herself from the past.

Thousand Eyes by Of Monsters and Men is the next song.

I can see this one being used for a pivotal moment, something that builds up to a climax.

The song begins with “undo this storm” and builds up in intensity to the final verse with “I am the storm.” I feel like that perfectly reflects Jinx’s creation out of Powder— she started out as a victim to the horrors around her and ended up becoming the thing everyone feared.

The next song is Riot! by Arrested Youth.

I relate this one to all the characters left to scramble after Silco’s death. They’re angry, they’re afraid, and they have little more to lose. And they’re all gathering into a mob.

Through the Valley by Shawn James is the next song.

It may seem like an incongruous choice in genre, but that’s on purpose. The season one soundtrack had a couple songs that switched up the genre, and I wanted to do that in this playlist as well. This song mixes up the genre while still narratively fitting in with the others and with the story.

Destroyer by Phantogram is the last song.

I saved this one for last because it’s very tragic, very final, and hints at how I believe Jinx’s story is destined to end.

The song is from the perspective of a narrator who can’t help but push others away and sabotage their relationships. They recognize that they’re making poor choices, but they continue to reject the help of others. In the end, they are truly alone— but that’s what they wanted, isn’t it?

And that’s the breakdown of the playlist! If you read all that, I appreciate you immensely. I put a ton of work into choosing the songs, and I’m really happy with how it turned out.

My Arcane Season 2 Fan Soundtrack!

A few weeks ago, I put together this fan soundtrack for what I imagine season 2 of Arcane to sound like. I love the first season's soundtrack so much, and I'm thrilled to hear what's coming next.

I put a ton of thought into this playlist, including analyzing the various components of the season 1 soundtrack, diving into the discography of some of the artists featured on it, and speculating what overall tone and themes I thought would come up in the second season of the show.

In the reblogs, I will be breaking down some of the songs on the playlist and why I picked them, as well as sharing a bit of my thought process.

Arcane / Jinx & Ekko / Irreconcilable forces of change

Aka the saddest love story in Arcane so far. Ekko and Jinx imo are coded in meta-narrative as two forces that bring change in structures of society. Jinx the destruction of old order, and Ekko the rebuilding from it. It's very similar relationship to the V and Evey in comic version of V for Vendetta. But this is not what Jinx wants, is it:

Because having a weapon that imitates a firelight does not make me read this as anything else than her trying to be part of world Ekko is building but not knowing how.

Her firelights look like the real deal from far away. She know's how to destroy things with her inventions, not how to build them.

And firelight/firefly is the animal associated with Ekko.

Jinx's animal in the narrative is the crow, yet that is not what she ever wanted to be. People around her put her into that role, and Ekko is the last one to see Powder part of Jinx alive. Not Vi.

And oh no, he pre-judged her being only Jinx and not understood her relationship to Silco as not only being 'she wants too work for him' (I mean for what it's worth Silco is the only person Jinx can always come back to after each fuck up and be accepted unconditionally, he's the only one always there for her). The result - or at least for now - Jinx gives up.

The most obvious call back to the scene in which she shows him her creations as children.

I do wonder how these two will grow now that Silco is out of the picture. Hope it'll be something interesting, 'coz for a Boy Saviour Ekko did not save her in this fight. Actually put the last nail in the coffin. I think he can have a very interesting arc about how he creates his movement.

So much angst in the story of these two. The micro-expressions at the end of that fight are amazing. The lyrics of the whole song too.

I could also note a bit more how these two are flip coins of revolutionary movements or anarchims, with the tension of tear down/build up. But we'll see how the story progresses. More: Arcane meta analysis posts - mostly character parallels, tech and politics

hmmmmf is it okay to ask for a tiny matchbreaking au where Cassandra hires jinx to split apart Cait and Vi? Not necessarily set within the arcane canon?

Okay this was VERY tiny, and I didn't quite get to who hired jinx. BUT! here you go! sorry this took me a month. ___

The problem is, really, that cop instincts don’t exactly turn off when you’re off the clock.

Vi had told her before, with the greatest possible affection, that she was... not always the most laid-back person in public. Caitlyn knew that was code for “nervous wreck.” She was prepared to tolerate that categorization. It was accurate. She was capable of admitting that.

So maybe she planned her dates like ops already. Usually, this worked out in her favor. 0800 hours, arrive before the breakfast place opened so she could wait for Vi. Have a nice chat with the waitress. Get the perfect table. Place an order before Vi arrived and before the kitchen got too packed– their usual– sit back, wait for Vi, coffee arrives on schedule, the waitress knows them, everything goes fine. Lunches, Dinners, all planned the same way.

Lately... things had not been going according to plan.

Cop instincts don’t turn off when you’re not on the clock.

So maybe when Vi started calling things “unnecessary escalation” she’d managed to cross some kind of boundary, but in her defense, her food had been tampered with, and that was, in Caitlyn’s opinion, always deserving of a serious response.

So maybe she’d gone a little overboard when she flipped the table because someone had tried to pour coffee on her. Maybe punting the toy that tried to trip her into traffic hadn’t been the best plan. Maybe punting a coffee pot across the room when someone had tried to sideswipe it into her lap hadn’t been her smoothest move.

But someone was definitely trying to kill her.

Her food had been tampered with– all her sauces came watered down and thinned, the sugar packets at her usual table were some other white powder. She was awaiting the lab results. She was extremely serious about this.

They were on stakeout outside the restaurant Caitlyn had publicly placed a reservation at: 1800 hours. This was officially a sting operation. They were dressed to go in to eat, but their reservation was a few hours away, and Caitlyn was locked and loaded, watching the employee exits.

“....Cupcake.” Vi says. “You know, it’s not too late to just... go home. Change the reservation? Get chinese food?”

“I don’t know why you’re not talking this seriously.” Caitlyn says, huffy. “Are you with me or not?”

“Well, of course i’m with you, but look at it this way. This is clearly somebody really skilled. They’ve managed to get past your safeguards. And replace your salt packets with...something. Like. Don’t you think if they were trying to kill you they would have been more direct about it by now?”

“It’s more frustrating because it confounds me.” Caitlyn grouses.

“–look, lemme call the lab, maybe those test results are back, and we can–” Vi trails off, looking past Caitlyn out the window.

Caitlyn twists. There’s a girl in an ill-fitting uniform going in the exit. Gotcha. Caitlyn goes for the doorhandle and is suddenly stopped by a hand on the back of her shirt.

“Vi, what–”

“Laxatives.” Vi says. “Those were laxatives. Also we– might need to talk.”

“They were what?”

“She did the same thing to me when I was 12.” Vi says, and then winces at the look Cait gives her. “–takeout?” She offers.

Caitlyn mumbles a string of swear words and turns the car on.

“You’re the best, cupcake.”

“You’re not getting out of explaining.

Vi sighs. “Yes, Ma’am.”
