this isn't near finished, and i have no reason to be proud of it, but I figured I might as well post it here, on this blog I use once a year, as this is a rewrite of my "giant" Morenatsu fanfic that I also posted here.
this is a story about boys who summon ghosts. ironically red weaver isn't among them, nor is he one of the ghosts summoned. except there is a ghost named red weaver but it's not the same guy. every single character has some sort of psychosis, because i don't know how to write them otherwise. they also have very very very particular names. because i don't know how to write them otherwise. most of the characters are native (belonging to a fictional agricultural people in the rocky mountains, called shorok), and i tried and am still trying to write them in an authentic way, i am white and inevitably got some stuff wrong. if you have any comments about that feel free to tell me. themes include love, loneliness, responsibility, masculinity, adulthood, choice, and fate.
cw abuse, suicide, homophobia, racism, mental illness, memory loss, mind control (kind of), some other stuff probably
#idk even what to tag this as#writing#do tags even matter#anyway unrelatedly i want to make one of those things that's like#iconic tumblr posts next to characters who would (supposedly) say them#but to do that i'd need to draw them#also re: psychosis this is just my personal brand i'm projecting onto everyone#as in: heavy delusions frequent symbolism but no actual hallucinations#also re: mind control it's kind of not mind control but it kind of is but anyway the triggery part is that it's Not presented negatively#it's presented as fate and good and not really perpetrated by anyone in particular#it's the whole âfateâ theme basically#and i'm trying to be as vague as possible what exactly is going on there so i figured i'd warn.#because mind control is very easy to interpret there#also re: memory loss there are two different causes for memory loss in this#one is abuse (scary) but that one is not nearly as relevant as the main drive of the plot#the main drive of the plot being Supernatural memory loss#okay it's a little strange to call it the main drive of the plot but that is one of the main reasons [redacted] is doing anything

This only time I will tried to write a AU out because my friend and I wanna see horrible stuff happen to D16 in a shrine maiden story thatâs kinda fatal frame inspired
Warning for some blood and gore
Also Iâm not really good at this
Iâm going to base cybertronâs official religion on worship Primus and the 13 Primes
Orion come from a village far from Iacon that only worship primus and in their tales primus is quite malevolent and all transformers life itâs an exchange. Because of that village have a tradition of live sacrifice of every 50 cycles they will sacrifice a cogless shrine maiden by using the impalement ritual to Primus. D16 comes online without a cog and was taken away and raised to be the next shrine maiden. The cogless shrine maiden are free of earthly attachments and when they are out in the public during celebrations they masked their faces so people wouldnât know what they look like.
Orion was the village troublemaker before his family moved to Iacon for better opportunities prior to this decadeâs ritual, accidentally broken into the templeâs back yard in fall on top of the shrine maiden. Those two became friends somehow. And occasionally Orion will try to sneak D out of the shrine at night. Orion got beaten up few times for seeing Dâs face, almost every time they get caught (which is only 2time ) D would cover for him âI got loss while wondering around in backyard and didnât realize Iâm in the forest.â Is a common excuse d used.
The priests and guardians would subject D16 to painful and humiliating punishments when she step out of the line, D16 followed a strict schedule everyday and the Priests and guardians are very strict and almost psychologically abusive to the cogless Shrine maiden. Even she is out at the courtyard she wear her mask and donât talk to anyone.
Then their final meeting up before Orion moved D gives her bell bracelet to Orion as a reminder of her, Orion went to Iacon with his family . Few months later itâs the day of the ritual which D was deemed as corrupted by the earthly attachments because her longing to see her lover(very one sided just coming from D) Orion once more and was punished by the a 2rd ritual of gutting her body while she was still conscious. Her body parts were stored in different jars in boxes around the shrine, after 7 days her ghost returned and brutally killed the inhabitants of the temple in same way she was then cursed the mountain the village was located.
D in her ritual outfit
Over the years the village population dropped, younger generations either moved away or dead from strange causes, only the few older people around. The government tried to boost the economy by opening a tunnel which for some reason a horrible accident occurred during itâs construction the workers bodies was somehow either impaled or gutted empty and amputated unlike the usual tunnel collapsing. There was a vacation villa opened once and it was a sight of a mess shooting, the shooter in their confession said âthe pale lady , Megatron, made me do itâ. (Due to allegedly the pale bot looks like Megatronus Prime, in urban legends she was dub as Megatron).
Megatron aka the pale lady(D16âs ghost)
In Iacon city, Orion was on his last year of his master program, his best friends Bee and Elita 1 were planning a summer trip. Bee who comes from a sheltered religious family who just found freedom from his family during his university years is crazy about everything supernatural suggested to go to that mountain because he heard there was a temple that had live sacrifices which Orion try to brush it off as âOh itâs just a fairy tale to scare sparklingsâ
The mountain now is more or less a common suicide forest and the road that leads to the village is the road has the most freak accidents. Bee wants do some ghost hunting and a road trip with the gang for the summer. Orion who has some distance memories from his childhood which his family donât like to talk about agreed to go.
Before they depart, Orion receives a letter from his childhood village and it was from D-16, his childhood friend. Which he thought Dee is still alive when he got the letter, he just thought because her job as the shine maiden she donât really have time to reconnect with him.
Notes
The sacrifice of the last 50 cycle before D was Starscream, a daughter from a high guard family. Her family seen one of their 4 daughters was a candidate as a great honor.Even as a somewhat willing sacrifice her ghost still haunts the shrine with the strong desire to see the night sky again.
D-16 was the only daughter and family of Terminus, a miner, Who committed suicide in the forest after d was taken from him. Dâs spider lily head dress was given by him.
Bonus:

What you need to know if you want to watch Agatha All Along but aren't up to speed with the MCU.
I know it can be confusing to keep up with Marvel's movies and TV shows so here's a very abridged version of what you need to watch Agatha All Along without getting confused.
Wanda Maximoff is a superhero witch in the Marvel universe. It's indicated that she's an actual witch but also has some mutant powers enhancing her abilities and granting her incredible psychic powers.
Wanda fell in love with an android (who might have had a human soul) named Vision. Vision was killed by the villain Thanos who wanted the stone that had granted Vision his life.
(Vision's origin in the comics is very different. For a crash course on that watch the animated series Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes. He was created by Ultron in that and it's really interesting.)
After the events of Avengers: Endgame Wanda is grieving the loss of her love, Vision.
Wanda has a mental break down and enslaves an entire town to behave like characters in old American sitcoms that Wanda grew up watching, from the 1950s until the 2000s. Each episode of WandaVision is themed to another decade and style of sitcom. Wanda is deep in her fantasy where she and Vision live a happy, domestic life, and have two sons.
Toward the end of the story Wanda's illusions are shattered, partly by the machinations of a semi-immortal (non-aging) witch, Agatha Harkness, who posed as Wanda's nosy neighbor Agnes. She wants to steal Wanda's power for herself.
Meanwhile the real Vision's corpse is reanimated with technology (not Agatha's doing, this was done by mortals) but lacks Vision's memories. Wanda's illusion version of Vision gives re-animated real-vision his own memories which cause re-animated Vision to have an identity crisis and fly off.
After all of Wanda's illusions are gone Wanda punishes Agatha for her scheming by trapping her in the persona of Anges the nosy neighbor, making her believe she is Agnes with all the false memories of the character.
This is where the show WandaVision ends. It seems like Wanda might come to terms with her loss but she doesn't.
Wanda goes further into her madness and believes the sons from her fantasy may exist out on the multiverse and she intends to go seek them out and steal them from an alternate version of herself. ...As you do. (This happens in Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of madness).
Wanda's madness is her undoing. Wanda comes to her senses in time to destroy all the copies of the Darkhold (Marvel's necronomicon, a very powerful and very evil spell book) and dies in the process.
And that's where Agatha All Along starts. It's been three years. Agatha was trapped as Agnes that whole time but now she's mentally stuck in a fictional Police Procedural show in the style of My Life is Murder or similar where she is fed the information that Wanda is now dead. (Agatha All Along first episode.)
Agatha is slowly clawing her way back from the psychic trauma / spell that Wanda trapped her in. When she finally snaps out of it, she's still without her magical powers and decides to form a coven to go down The Witches' Road to regain it.
And there you go. Any questions?

Hi, I saw your tags:
I was wondering. Um. Would you be comfortable sharing what other symptoms you have?
I've had memory problems for years but every time I look them up I just get stuff like alzheimers and car crashes and stuff, which doesnt apply. Idk
I was wondering if this might be me also. I'll talk to a doctor, of course, but. Just wondering what the general vibe is
Sure! Though, be aware, if you Can get evaluated for your symptoms you probably should, at least to make sure it isn't degenerative.
Via-a-vis the ABI (That's Acquired Brain Injury), part of the reason it took so long to diagnose is because
I already have a different diagnosis of cEDS (Classical Ehlers Danlos Syndrome) that explained several of my other symptoms
I have GAD and PTSD due to living in a very abusive and dangerous environment up until about 5 months ago, and
At least two of my family members are autistic, so it was just kind of vaguely assumed that any weirdness regarding my sensory processing and so on was because of that.
So! To summarize (and I put this below a cut because it gets Long).
Chiari Malformation is when you have a defect in the base of your skull that puts pressure on your cerebellum, causing part of it to go into your spinal column. Many people with this condition don't experience any symptoms, but that is not always the case, and even with no symptoms, it does place you at a much higher risk for a brain injury. With a Chiari Malformation, even a mild concussion can cause serious damage.
I have had several concussions, with one of them knocking me out for several minutes when I was very young. So. Here we are.
Regarding treatments for Chiari, most of what can be done is simply treating the symptoms. Unless there is concern about the condition getting worse (more memory loss, paralysis, etc.), patients will likely be referred elsewhere to discuss pain management, because from my understanding, the only effective treatment for Chiari is a decompression surgery, which will remove part of your skull to take pressure off the brain. It's not terribly risky as brain surgeries go, but the best brain surgery is, of course, no brain surgery.
Re my Physical symptoms:
I get headaches very frequently, and often very severely. They have been categorized as migraines in the past, because they come with severe light and sound sensitivity, and they tend to knock me out for hours. That said, they don't meet all the criteria for a migraine, including having no aura to speak of. They are often triggered by strain and jostling my head--by coughing, sneezing, vomiting, jumping, or anything that would cause motion sickness.
I have poor balance. I have found that walking with a cane helps, but physical therapy doesn't do all that much (because it's in my brain and not my muscles).
I also struggle with chronic fatigue. Getting out of bed is a real struggle most days, as is getting anything done outside of simply going to work and then coming home--although I recently went on an antidepressant, which has helped a bit.
Insomnia! I have trouble sleeping. It comes and goes, sometimes I get several days worth of restful sleep, but sometimes I get only a few hours worth of sleep over the course of a week.
Shooting and burning pain in back of skull, neck, spine, shoulders, and chest. Be careful with this one, because this can also be a result of a heart issue. That said, I've had my heart checked out, and that's all good, which is why they checked the brain in the first place.
As for my cognitive symptoms, it's a bit fuzzier, because like I said before, I have PTSD, I have the ABI, I have GAD, several of my family members are somewhere on the autism spectrum, and now my therapist is also having me evaluated for OSDD. So, your mileage may vary. But essentially:
Memory loss. Some of it is retrograde, and I have found that I'll forget significant events and people. Most of it is anterograde, or short term--so, forgetting what a conversation is about while I'm in the middle of a sentence, and either having to improvise and try to make a guess as to what I was talking about, or having to have my conversation partner walk back what we were talking about to explain what we were doing. I have to have a very detailed and elaborate task tracker at work in order to stay on top of things, or I would simply forget it all. I also have the experience of feeling like all of my memories are stories that were told to me. So, I rarely experience a memory as a thing that happened to me, complete with sights and sounds and feelings and sensations and so on, but more like a story that someone told to me once. So, a vague recollection of events and the order in which they happened. This makes it difficult to differentiate between my own memories and stories that other people have told me. It has happened a few times that I have told a story of something that happened to me, only to find out that it actually happened to the person I was talking to instead, and I just got confused.
I'm not sure what to call this one, but I get EXTREMELY easily distracted from processing audio, especially in an environment with more than one thing happening. If I am having a verbal conversation with someone in a restaurant, and someone comes and sits at the table next to us and starts talking, I become almost incapable of conversation. If I'm talking to someone and someone turns on the TV in the next room, I become almost incapable of conversation. If music is playing, I lose track of the conversation. I forget everything I was saying. I won't be able to understand what other people are saying. Spending time in loud, busy, or crowded environments is not that distressing by itself, but I will not be able to hold a conversation.
Aphasia and Verbal Processing. It is incredibly difficult for me to put words together in a way that is coherent. It is significantly easier through writing, because I can look things up and take my time with it. But in vocal conversation, I will frequently have verbal shutdowns where I cannot find a word, and all of my language processing shuts down while I try to comprehend what I was talking about. This often leads to...
Fuzziness/Blurriness. I typically call this "going fuzzy". Generally it involves a verbal shutdown to an extent, where my brain has reached capacity with processing information, and is deciding to simply wipe everything and start over. Think of it like restarting a really old computer. Sometimes it doesn't take too terribly long--a few moments. Sometimes it takes more than half an hour. It depends. This is often accompanied by...
The Buzzingâą--It happens for me at the base of the skull, where the injury is. It feels like a tuning fork fused to the inside of my skull. It is completely maddening. My ears ring, and it sounds like a high pitched whining noise. I become very on edge, it's incredibly anxiety inducing, and very overwhelming. I don't know if this is a common symptom you will be able to find under brain injuries, but it's Extremely not fun! I have found that it can be lessened somewhat with massaging the area.
The Voicesâą: I have heard voices ever since I was a kid. (Schizophrenia has already been ruled out.) Sometimes, it Is an actual auditory hallucination. I recently had an experience where I was grocery shopping and kept flinching because it sounded like someone was shouting my name directly into my ear. Other times, I've heard people whispering or knocking on my walls. These typically occur during or following a stressful situation. HOWEVER, I also experience The Voicesâą in my daily life outside of stressful situations. In these situations, it is never auditory, more just a thing that occurs in my own head. I have, in the past, had the experience of talking more or less constantly to one or several distinct people in my head. Nowadays, it feels more like experiencing multiple trains of thought or multiple sets of emotions which feel distinct from "mine". Or feeling like a background voice in my head while someone else does things for me.
Per my therapist, I have recently begun categorizing them as different people to see if that helps. And it does sometimes! And sometimes it does not. It is a process. But that's where I am with that.
There's more to it, but I don't really have the capacity to talk about it much more than I have at the moment.
If you want to see what my experience with this is like... I mean. I did write an entire fanfiction about a character with several of my symptoms recently. You likely won't have the context for what is going on re the character and the situation unless you are into Red vs. Blue, but just in case it helps to see a recounting of it, here:
The Fanfiction That Helped Me Realize I Had Brain Damageâą. Have fun!

At long last, I have a new book to share! Feels like forever since the last one. This is Vita Nova, a fantastic Good Omens fic by @philoomenaa that I asked to bind way back in October. It took me a while to get here and I learned several new techniques for this bind but it was so very worth the wait. It's an excellent pre-season 2 story from 2019-2020, involving the fandom's favorites dealing with an unexpected bout of both humanity and memory loss. It's just...really really good and I love it.
More photos and process talk under the cut! There are a lot of details to see with this one.
One of the things I learned for this bind was homemade book cloth. I used the heat n bond method and had pretty good results with this satiny bronze cloth that I found in the Joann's remnant bin. The making of the cloth was fairly straightforward but it handles very differently to regular book cloth. The satin is really slippery and absolutely would not hold a crease at the hinge. I think it also shrank a little at the gluing stage? Which sounds weird but I left my usual amount of space for the corner turn-ins but still had teeny tiny gaps on three of the corners, which has never happened to me before. I also had an issue with glue seepage when I applied HTV to the cover and spine. You can see this in the images above, and here in the spine photos:
Part of the reason it has that fancy art nouveau frame on the cover is an attempt to hide this. I think it's the heat press re-activating the heat n bond to cause it. I found out two things here: that fabric requires less press time than book cloth or cardstock, and that if you move the heat press slowly but constantly like an iron it is way less likely to do this. I was super disappointed that it happened but now, a few days later, it doesn't seems so bad. I guess some items just come with a little personal history already baked in.
Here, have some more glamour shots:
The geometric endpapers were chosen specifically to go with this cloth. I found them at the same craft store and knew I had use them together, they look so incredible. And I learned edge gilding for this project! It was very annoying. The final result here is with heat transfer foil, and I did about six tests on scrap text blocks before I got a result I was at all satisfied with. I tried rub n buff (great coverage, not shiny enough, kept coming off on my fingers even after curing for 2 days) and an actual gilding kit (flaked off as soon as I separated the pages). The heat foil still has some patchy spots but was by far the best-looking result. I also learned double-core end bands for this project! Because I wanted some kind of match for those opulent endpapers and didn't want to settle for just two colors. I think they came out pretty well for a first try and I'll definitely be doing them again.
Couple of photos of the ribbon I chose for the bookmark. It's probably a little too wide for a book this length; you can see in the end band photo that I had to fold it in half to get it to lay in the spine properly. But it looks so good with the other design elements that I couldn't resist. Luxury all the way on this one.
Speaking of luxury, have a look at the interior:
From left to right, we have the title page, the ornament I chose for the chapter numbers, and the scene break divider. All the images came from rawpixel with just the lightest amount of editing from me. The chapter image is the same as the star on the title page, but I made it gray and took out the center to turn it into a frame for the numbers. The cloth and endpapers really set the tone for this one all the way through, and all the other design choices followed from there. It's really gorgeous, guys. I love it so much.
And that's it! That was the last work in progress I had from 2023, and I'm so pleased to have finally finished it. Hope you like it, AMidnightDreary!
#bookbinding#fanbinding#snek makes books#good omens#i can't believe it's done it's been a wip for like four months#i am still a little sad about the glue but it really is gorgeous and I'm proud of it

Understanding PLC controller error codes
Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) are the household names in all industries today. And with good reason. By automating repetitive tasks and bringing down manual effort, PLCs have revolutionized manufacturing assembly lines, material handling and many other industrial processes. PLCs though highly tolerant of extreme conditions and hardy can encounter issues from time to time even with regular maintenance. In this article, we are looking at PLC error codes and why they occur. Before we deep dive into the error codes, let us first understand the issues PLCs commonly show.Â
Memory error
The PLCâs memory is one of the most important components of the device. It holds the information, input details and other data necessary for correct working. If the PLCâs memory encounters an error, it can lead to data corruption and information loss which can be devastating for the organization. Memory errors can occur in the hardware or software. Depending on the natureÂ
Causes
Corrupted memory files is often the root of memory errors.
Memory space can get exhausted and you might get this error due to insufficient space in your PLC memory.
Memory chips can be defective or get corrupted. This is an example of hardware issues giving rise to memory errors.
Troubleshooting
Perform a thorough check of your PLC Setup and the memory allocation. Select the memory diagnostic option. It will detect corrupted data for you. You may need to reinitialize the memory and re-upload the program. In case of space issues, you need to increase the memory capacity. If there are faulty memory hardware components, you may need to replace them.
Network and communication error
PLCs need to communicate with networks, input and output devices, HMIs (Human-Machine Interfaces) or other PLCs to work seamlessly. These errors occur when network communication between the PLC and other devices fails.Â
Causes
Like all devices, loose or damaged cables and connectors can lead to issues in smooth communication.
Network congestion or incorrect network setting can also be the reason behind communication failure.Â
Faulty network hardware is another cause of network errors.Â
Troubleshooting
Verify network settings and ensure compatibility between devices. Use diagnostic tools to identify communication errors and rectify them. Reduce network traffic and check if the device has good bandwidth allocation. Look for defective network hardware and replace them.
Other PLC errors
Faulty Inputs or Outputs: Input information and output are the vital aspects that define PLC functioning. Input/output modules must be inspected regularly for loose wiring or damaged connections or components for healthy operations.Â
Programming Errors: Carefully review the PLC program for logical or syntax errors. Use debugging tools to identify and rectify programming mistakes. Document changes to ensure proper version control.
Error codes
Donât let PLC error codes daunt you. If you know your error codes, you can easily prevent them from bringing your operations to a halt. Usually, you will see error codes flashing on the display. Depending on the build and type of your PLC, error codes might also be displayed as LED indicators.Â
Remember errors can be indicated in different formats. Errors are usually of two kinds: numeric, such as E001 or F002, or alphanumeric, such as PWR or CPU. Some PLC error codes are generic, such as ERR or FAIL, while others are specific, such as OVLD or BAT. For a more comprehensive understanding of the errors your PLC might show, you should consult your PLC manual or online resources to find out the meaning and description of each PLC error code.
Advanced Troubleshooting Techniques

As healthy people get older, the brain decreases slightlyTrusted Source in size. However, in people with dementia, as nerve cells are damaged and die, many regions of the brain shrink, a process known as brain atrophy. So, could a larger brain help reduce a personâs risk of dementia?
A new study, from UC Davis Health, has suggested that it might. Researchers found that people born in the 1970s had brains that were, on average, 6.6% larger than those of people born in the 1930s. They suggest that larger brain size means increased brain reserve â which may reduce the risk of age-related dementias.
The study is published in JAMA NeurologyTrusted Source.
âWhile these newly published results add to the body of literature on brain size and changes over time, this study was largely conducted in healthy, well-educated, non-Hispanic White individuals, and so [these findings] are not necessarily generalizable to other groups or individuals.â â Ozama Ismail, PhD, Alzheimerâs Association director of scientific programs, who was not involved in the study.
Dementiaâs effects on the brain
Currently, around 58 millionTrusted Source people worldwide have dementia, and that number is projected to reach 152.8 million by 2050.
Although some memory loss is a natural part of aging, dementia is not. Dementia describes a range of diseases, with the most common, being Alzheimerâs disease, causing 60-80% of cases. Others include vascular dementia, Lewy body dementia (which may be associated with Parkinsonâs disease), frontotemporal dementia, and mixed dementia.
Symptoms of dementia, which worsen over time, may include:
memory problems
asking the same question repeatedly
difficulty finding or understanding words
feeling confused in unfamiliar environments
problems dealing with money and numbers
anxiety and withdrawal
difficulty planning and carrying out tasks
mood, personality and behavior changes
sleep disturbances
obsessive tendencies
In all types of dementia, as brain cells are damaged and die, there is some degree of brain shrinkageTrusted Source, with this being particularly pronounced in Alzheimerâs disease and vascular dementia.
Human brain sizes are increasing
This study looked at participants in the Framingham Heart Study (FHS). This long-term study has followed 15,000 individuals for more than 75 years.
Of the FHS cohort, 3,226 people had two MRI scans that were suitable for this study. Of them, 1,706 (53%) were women, and 1,520 (47%) were men. The scans measured intracranial volume (ICV), cortical gray matter, cerebral white matter, hippocampal volume, cortical surface area, and cortical thickness measures.
The participants were all born between 1930 and 1970, with the median decade of birth being the 1950s. People born in the 1970s were, on average, 1.6 inches taller than those born in the 1930s, so the researchers adjusted for this when comparing brain measurements.
People born in the 1970s had greater brain volumes than those born in the 1930s.
They had a 6.6% greater ICV, 7.7% more white matter, 2.2% more cortical gray matter, 5.7% greater hippocampal volume, and 14.9% larger cortical surface area. The one measure that had decreased was cortical thickness, which was 20.9% lower. These differences remained significant when the researchers adjusted for height differences.
âThe decade someone is born appears to impact brain size and potentially long-term brain health,â said Charles DeCarli, MD, first author of the study, distinguished professor of neurology, and director of the UC Davis Alzheimerâs Disease Research Center in a press release.
âGenetics plays a major role in determining brain size, but our findings indicate external influences â such as health, social, cultural and educational factors â may also play a role,â he said.
âLarger brain structures like those observed in our study may reflect improved brain development and improved brain health. A larger brain structure represents a larger brain reserve and may buffer the late-life effects of age-related brain diseases like Alzheimerâs and related dementias.â â Charles DeCarli, MD
Larger brain size may indicate lower dementia risk
Previous studiesTrusted Source have suggested that larger brain volume protects against the effects of dementia pathology, arguing that those with a greater head circumference can endure a greater degree of damage before they start to show cognitive impairment.
This âbrain reserve hypothesisâTrusted Source suggests that a larger brain volume, with more neurons and synaptic connections, could provide protection against cognitive decline from brain atrophy. Experts use ICV on MRI and head circumference as indicators of brain volume.
However, this observed effect could be due to other factors, as Ismail told Medical News Today:
âLarger brain volumes may be beneficial in maintaining resilience to cognitive decline and dementia, but many other factors can contribute to resilience, including genetics, environment, socioeconomic status, education, and active vs. sedentary lifestyle.â
Other studiesTrusted Source have stressed that cognitive reserve â how well the brain functions â is more important than actual brain size in relation to dementia risk. People with a higher cognitive reserve tend to show dementia symptoms later, but then decline faster once symptoms become evident.
The researchers in this study suggest that the increase in brain volumes over the four birth decades in their study could predict a lower risk of dementia in people born later in the FHS.
Call for more diverse studies
The researchers acknowledge that their study cohort was predominantly non-Hispanic White, healthy, and well-educated, so not representative of the general population of the United States. However, they emphasize that the strengths of the study include the fact that it has followed 3 generations, spanning more than 80 years of births.
Ismail called for further studies that include a greater diversity of people:
âMore diversity in research populations is needed before conclusions can be made about changes in brain size over generations and the influence it may have on cognition, resilience, and dementia risk.â
âThis is particularly important given the known sociocultural and health disparities that exist in underrepresented populations,â he added.
The Alzheimerâs Associationâs U.S. Study to Protect Brain Health Through Lifestyle Intervention to Reduce Risk (U.S. POINTER), which should publish results next year, aims to help address this gap in the research, as Ismail told MNT:
âIn the U.S. POINTER Study, more than 2,000 volunteer older adults who are at increased risk for cognitive decline are enrolled and will be followed for two years. Nearly 30% of current participants are from populations historically underrepresented in Alzheimerâs/dementia research.â

One significant factor that enters the body and interacts with the bloodstream is the poisons found in the environment.
These harmful enzymes interfere with blood flow and prevent essential nutrients from reaching the organs, which impairs the organsâ ability to operate normally.
Other internal factors that influence hearing health include bacterial infections, aging, inflammatory effects, and free radicals.
These circumstances disrupt the brainâs natural ability to communicate with the ears, which leads to poor hearing.
The Cortexi Hearing Support Formula solutionâs producer has incorporated a powerful ingredient that encourages the immune system to correct pathogenic actions and lessen inflammatory damage.
The natural extractsâ potential advantages permeate into the bloodstream and fight against those harmful elements. As a result, the nutrients go throughout the body and keep the organsâ connections and functions stable for healthy processes.
Ingredients of Cortexi:
Cortexi contains twenty carefully selected ingredients to improve ear and hearing health Eight of the top active ingredients out of a total of 20 found in each drop of Cortexi, according to the manufacturer, perform the following functions:
Grape Seed: Cortexi contains antioxidant-rich grape seed extract that aids in ear protection. The grape seed extract is rich in natural antioxidants, including resveratrol, which has been linked to healthy inflammation throughout the body. Several people use daily supplements of grape seed extract or resveratrol to support inflammation. The same antioxidants, claim the designers of Cortexi, can protect your ear.
Green Tea: Green tea has a lot of polyphenols, or plant-based antioxidants, which protect the ear and maintain appropriate inflammation. Manufacturers of Cortexi claim that green tea can improve blood flow to the ears. If inadequate blood flow is the root cause of your hearing problems, increasing blood flow can be helpful. By boosting the supply of oxygen and nutrients that reach your ears, increased blood flow may enhance hearing, healing, and overall ear health.

hiii, i loved your last fanfic with lance <333 could you write headcanons of ezarel seeing gardy again and how he would fall in love again with her?? i love your writing
Hi there! This was such a special ask for me đ„ș. I was Ezarel's route in origins, and I nearly cried for two weeks after episode 30 cause I knew he wasn't returning.
Also, I saw the other ask and thank u so much for wishing me a good time on my vacation! I even got tanned, though I got a lot of freckles too đ.
Aaaanyway, I'm already working on the rest of the requests! But I have like... Seven? đ€Ł So it may take me a while.
This turned out to be more oriented to Ez's returning, but I hope you enjoy it!
Ezarel's return hc under the cut
Knowing that Erika awoke was... Pretty tough for Ezarel.
He's a very independent person who has endured loneliness and being closed-up over the years. Losing Erika like that was a hard hit on his life.
Her presence changed him forever after all.
The last time he saw her, he spoke to her, was on the battlefield, where both of them were facing death. The last glance she gave to him before ridding (no perv thoughts on this, I'm seeing y'all) Valkyon was the only goodbye he could get.
Everything was emptiness and loneliness after that.
So, when Twylda came in a rush to tell Ezarel that Erika had awoken... He was genuinely astonished.
He never paid too much attention to the new occurrences that may or may not happen in the HQ. Since he spent most of the time locked up in his cottage making concoctions or any other remedy that he was requested, Marie-Anne and Twylda were the ones who occasionally told them about the doings of the Guard.
He was hesitant at first. After years of grieve, he had had to learn to move on. To let the memory of his lover go.
He was mentalized that she would never come back.
He didn't do anything immediately. Taking a seat to avoid falling backwards out of shock, Ezarel considered the situation: Seeing her again could be far too painful. After trying to rebuild his life, go back to the same point was unthinkable. He couldn't didn't want to feel so desperate again because of the loss of a loved one.
But in the end, his fondness for her won the inner battle. Before being his lover, Erika had been his friend and a cherished person by all the HQ. She deserved at least a greeting after 7 years.
He decided to go on a small trip and visit their remaining friends in the HQ. Ez didn't pass by since he delegated his title as chief of the absent guard and Nevra had asked too many times to come to visit them, so her awakening was a good excuse for him to do all the liabilities he had been postponing.
After crossing those huge doors, being greeted by some old members and hug-crushed by Jamon, the first thing he did was looking for Nevra.
"Long time no see, ugly face" The look on the vampire's face was pure shock. With a shit-eating grin, the former member of the light guard rushed to greet and embrace his old friend.
They had a shortened conversation due to the new up-calling duties of the vampire but promised to catch up later. Before the vampire was gone again, he finally dared ask where was Erika.
"I think she's training on the gardens right now. Possibly with Lance and a new human called Mathieu that arrived a year ago."
He despised the sound of the name of the man who stabbed him and killed one of his best friends.
Ezarel understood the advantages and the good asset that Lance was for the guard (after all, before the dragon became Ashkore, Valkyon and both of them used to fight together and had good times joking and fooling around a bit), but the risks were too high. He couldn't forgive him for taking both his friend and his lover away from him.
He could have sworn that his heart almost ripped off his chest when he spotted her.
She looked stunning, marvelling, alive.
Dropping his bag on the floor, he muttered her name, patiently waiting for her to notice his presence.
The commotion plastered her features the moment she saw him.
Fused in a tight embrace, she practically clung to his clothes, the elf stroking her hair, trying to keep his cool and avoiding being carried away by the moment.
"I missed you."
Erika couldn't say much as her sobs were strangled on her throat.
After that fussed greeting, Lance and Mathieu called it a day and the Elf and Erika decided to have a long, deep conversation.
Whatever that'd been between them before her sacrifice... Was broken now. And trying to re-build it would take time and effort.
What was supposed to be a trip turned into a life-changing event.
With Huang Hua's offer, Ezarel agreed to work for the Guard of Eel again.
But this time, he specified that he didn't want to take any responsibilities, he didn't want to make the sort of choices that he would regret in the future. The kind that would hurt and damage his bond with Erika as he did in the past.
So this time, although still being part of the absence guard, he chose to assist in the infirmary's department.
Even though EweleĂŻn and Ez had had their story, now they were on good terms, and she always had been a good company that he enjoyed.
Being one of the most capable nurses alongside Ewe made his presence necessary in many trips (a very pleasant privilege, since he had always been very fond of travelling) and granted him much more free time.
Free time that he would always try to spend on Erika.
Because this time, it was different. He wasn't the chief of the absent guard. He didn't carry a great responsibility on his shoulders. He wasn't part of the light guard nor he was running from Lund'Mulhingar's tropes and hiding in the HQ.
He was free, and he chose to work in The Guard again in other to remain at Erika's side.
At the side of the only woman he deeply fell for.
Listening to her, taking care of her, loving her and being there for her. Because bad things were coming, and Ezarel did not doubt that all of her strength would be needed again.
Do you have any requests? Feel free to stop by my ask box! But first, please read this.

pancakes & promises {finnick odair}
ok i donât normally write for the hunger games but here is some morning fluff for 2 of my faves, @karasongâ & @megmeg-chanâ (based on megâs request). i hope you enjoyđ
warnings: none...except swearingÂ
The mornings were always one of Finnickâs favourite times.
Things were quiet; calm and quell, worlds away from his hectic past and tainted memories. Finnick was never without a charming smile or flirty comment but behind his endearing exterior, there was a vortex of dark memories. The warm blue eyes you often caught staring at you had seen worlds of pain. The large hands that were the source of half his affection had once wielded weapons. Heâd become so used to the noise - of the arena, of the war, of his own thoughts - that the silence was almost strange. Heâd spent years trying to escape it, trying to fill it with the sound of gentle music and white noise and the low fuzz of the radio but nothing had worked.Â
Then there was you. Between his arms underneath cover of the darks, head buried in his neck as you gently snored. The tickle of your breath against his bare skin and hands softly gripping onto his arms was an anchor. With your legs tangled underneath the sheets with his and your warmth beside him, he wasnât afraid of the silence anymore. If anything, it was something he began to appreciate. It was a sign of change - change for the better. Most of which had been brought on your presence in his life. You were a barrier to the past, really. A definitive and constant existence intertwined with his that protected him from the bad parts of history. It was contained nicely in two parts: before you and after you. It was the latter he was so desperately holding onto, more than willing to throw the other into the abyss.Â
Finnick had woken that morning as usual; naturally, thanks to the sunlight leaking through the blinds. If you werenât wrapped up in his arms, usually thanks to your tendency to roll away in the night, heâd reach out for you without thinking. Instead of being met with your warm skin, his fingers came into contact with the sheets. They were cold - you must have been gone a while. He immediately sat up, a frown etched on his features. You were never gone. Why were you gone?
Then he heard you - in the kitchen, kettle going and singing quietly. That was another thing he wasnât used to: domesticity. Someone to look after him, instead of it constantly being the other way around. Finnick made a point to care for you and look out for you, and he would have done it even if youâd completely denied him of love, but you didnât. It was a relationship of equals. And equals didnât often come along in these times.
Wrapping the sheet around his waist, he slipped out of bed and padded through to the kitchen. You were stood by the cooker, his shirt hanging off of your shoulders and a song playing quietly on the radio.Â
It was one of those moments he couldnât really explain; it was so simple, so domestic and sweet, but one he was happy to stay in forever. Heâd experienced everything else in life - moments of heroic grandeur, moments of great loss - but somehow, it was the little things he wanted to hold onto. The sight of you in the morning; the smell of your body wash on your skin after a shower; the feeling of your soft hands tracing the scars that littered his skin. It was normal to remember all the big flashpoint moments, but what about all the tiny ones in between? The things that interconnected all the different eras of his life? Ones like this, where nothing in particular was happening, but that were so worth holding onto.
He leant against the door frame, watching you for a moment. Finnick didnât want to disturb you - or maybe he wanted to savour the moment. He woke up to you every morning but he wanted to remember each and individual single day. That was something heâd come to learn, having been reminded of his mortality so many times. Heâd be damned if he was going to hold onto the moments that made him stare death in the face and tell it to back the fuck down so many times.Â
The floor-boards beneath creaked slightly as he re-adjusted himself, causing you to jump slightly. You glanced over your shoulder at him, a smile playing on your lips as your eyes caught his. The morning sun was coming from through the kitchen window, pouring over you in a way that you made you seem almost other worldy. It was fitting, really.
âGâmorning.â You greeted him through a mouthful of pancakes. âI made pancakes. Or I tried to make pancakes.â
His eyes followed your hand as you gestured up to the ceiling. There two or three half cooked pancakes stuck up there, clearly hanging on with all their might.Â
âWhatâs with the splatters on the wall?â Finnick raised an eyebrow at you.
âOh, those ones hit the ceiling fan.â You bit your lip to suppress a laugh, eyes falling to the floor. You could feel your cheeks heating up his intense gaze, even as a grin broke across his face.Â
âYou never cook.â Finnick said. He made his way over towards you, broad arms snaking around your waist as he pulled you into him. âThe oven in this house is purely for decoration.â
âI wanted to surprise you.â You admitted. âI know you love pancakes and itâs been a while since weâd had them. Thought it might be a nice thing to wake up to.â
He could have sworn that his heart stopped at that. Finnick had spent so much of his life running from people, watching his own back and constantly looking over his shoulder. To have someone to actually do things for him, to (try and) cook for him with his favourite food in mind? The feeling was still entirely new to him. You were still entirely new to him. You did things for him without even thinking about just...because. Your love for him was reason enough.Â
A silence fell over you for a moment as he just stared at you, intense blue gaze holding your own. He still couldnât believe that you were real, even with your hands resting on his shoulders and your presence right before his eyes. The funny thing was that it wasnât like the moment was particularly special, or big, or even interesting. It was just you and him in the kitchen, something which was quite mundane, truth be told. But maybe that was it: the fact it was mundane. His entire life had been so fucking crazy, so filled with panic and blunder and change, that to have something constant enough to even be considered mundane? That in itself was extraordinary. You were extraordinary.Â
âHey.â You gently brushed your hand over his cheek. âYouâre staring.â
âYeah, I know. At you.â He replied.
âOkay, maybe let me rephrase that.â You softly laughed. âWhy are you staring?â
âI just...â he trailed off, biting his lip for a moment. âI just really love you.â
âI love you too, Fin.â You leant forwards, brushing your lips against his.Â
Finnick was a good kisser; you knew that better than anyone. Somehow, every kiss felt like your first. His lips were always soft, always warm and welcoming. That, paired with his hands on your hips and the way he ran them up and down your sides, was enough to make you forget the entire world around you. He was enough to make you forget the entire world around you. As far as you cared - and as far as you wanted to care - it was just you and him, and nobody else. You were the center of his universe and he wasnât willing to let anybody else in.
âOh, shit.â You suddenly pulled away when the pancake on the stove started to spit smoke. âThis one was gonna be good! And you distracted me!â
âDarling, I always distract you.â His cocky grin returned as he leant against the counter beside you.Â
âYou were being so soft a minute ago.â You quipped, jokingly rolling your eyes.Â
âI can be both.â He grabbed your arm, yanking you back towards him. He wrapped his arms around your waist,Â
âI liked it when you were confessing your love for me.â You softly murmured, pressing your forehead to his.
âWant me to do it again?â
âI certainly wonât complain.â
âOkay.â His grin faded to a thoughtful smile. âI love you so much that itâs almost overwhelming. In fact, it might be completely overwhelming but I donât even mind.â
âThatâs better.â You pressed another kiss to his lips. âAnd I love you too, so much that it is also almost overwhelming.â
âAlmost?â Finnick quipped. âIâd argue Iâm entirely overwhelming-â
â- I also fell in love with your humbleness.â You shot back.Â
âI will accept your declaration of almost overwhelming love so long as you promise itâs forever.â He replied. He knew how cheesy he was being, but it was one of the things he was good at.
âOf course.â You grinned. âForever?â
âForever.âÂ

Shiramine Nokia, and her role in Cyber Sleuthâs narrative
This oneâs on request! Cyber Sleuth is quite the interesting game and a rather landmark entry in the franchise, mainly for being a love letter to the franchise and its long history itself, and for being the franchiseâs very first work exclusively aimed at adults, meaning that it can explore different topics that wouldnât normally be Sunday morning timeslot material, while also being a little more willing to assume that the people playing this are familiar with a lot of older parts of the franchise (not that itâs advisable to have complete lockout, but the game benefits greatly by not needing to assume lockout by default).
One of the ways Cyber Sleuth exhibits its âfranchise love letterâ status is by starting off the game all the way back at the franchiseâs roots, before Digimon Adventure changed the game and everyoneâs perception of Digimon and Digimon partnership, when the V-Pet lore was intertwined with Digimon as elements of hard sci-fi. As the game proceeds, the atmosphere slowly starts to resemble the more fantasy-like version of the franchise established by Digimon Adventure and its follower entries -- and that change is represented in none other than Nokia herself.
Before we begin: As anyone who follows my meta work has probably noticed, I generally prefer to have my analyses use tons of references and screenshots so that itâs easy to follow and the evidence is concrete, but Cyber Sleuth is a game, and itâs much harder to get those things without replaying the entire game, so I hope this wonât be too hard to follow despite being mostly text.
Nokiaâs background and personality
If we want to apply the producerâs statements on Twitter, Nokia is 17 years old at the time of Cyber Sleuth, and has a backstory of having originally been a shy, bullied child who broke out of her shell thanks to the influence of her cousin (who, of all people, happens to be none other than Date Makiko). The flashback we get with Nokia in chapter 18, however, portrays her as just a fairly cheerful, go-getter child, but (although we only get to see her hair) sheâs not quite as âflashyâ or in-your-face as the description entails.
A possible hypothesis for rationalizing this all together comes from a what we learn about the process of memory wiping in Cyber Sleuth chapter 14: even if memories are extracted from the person, thereâs some kind of residual memory left behind (the producerâs above statement also states that the same thing had even happened to Suedou). In Hackerâs Memory chapter 16, Arata confesses to Ryuji that the first Under Zero incident and Jude's loss to the Knightmon had re-triggered his trauma from having lost Yuugo years prior -- ânot the memory, but the feeling.â So in other words, there was some feeling of loss that came after the loss of Yuugo that impacted those involved -- and itâs very possible that this deeply impacted and traumatized Nokia as well.
Assuming weâre still following this line of thought (since, again, this background point wasnât actually in the game proper), Nokia eventually decided to break out of her shell thanks to Makikoâs influence, and become eccentric and assertive, and thus, the game begins.
While weâre here, I also want to point out that Nokia is also voiced by Han Megumi, possibly the Digimon franchiseâs most notorious âpromoted fangirlâ who freaked out after getting to meet her childhood charactersâ voice actors while cast as Airu in the Xros Wars crossover and ended up casted in a handful of major Digimon roles thereafter as a result. Which is not to say that her voice performance wasnât also absolutely perfect for the bright and aggressive Nokia, but, you know...considering the below analysis, food for thought.
Nokia as a representative of âthe conventional franchiseâ
Cyber Sleuth opens on a world where Digimon are largely seen as hacker programs, and even the hackers themselves only see them as non-sentient programs; there are ones like Chitose who treat them with empathy, but his attitude seems to be kindness towards them in a way not entirely unlike a family would treat a Roomba. Although he doesnât admit to it at first, Arata himself also comes from this âworldâ of hackers, and we later learn that Yuuko herself is as well (via her âYuugoâ persona), meaning that, other than the playable protagonist, Nokia is the only âoutside-contextâ person -- a completely ordinary civilian whoâs gotten dragged into all of this.
Much like, say, the protagonists of Digimon Adventure.
With this background behind her, once sheâs thrown into the world of hackers, she immediately has a âfateful encounterâ with Agumon and Gabumon, instantly recognizable as two of the franchiseâs most prominent Digimon (and complete with their Adventure voice actors, too). And I do especially bring up Adventure specifically, because while Nokiaâs position in the game does end up taking in certain elements that roughly came around that era and possibly slightly predated it (mostly Digimon World and V-Tamer), Agumon and Gabumon werenât particular mascots of the franchise until Adventure basically blew everything to pieces.
Right off the bat, Nokia does not have a single shred of doubt that Agumon and Gabumon are living beings and should be treated as such (again, much like the protagonists of Digimon Adventure; even Taichi in his âis this a game?â mode never doubted this). And they open up their meeting with this conversation:
Agumon: Umm, who are you? Nokia: It... It can talk?! It's so... so... so adoooooorable! M-M-M-M-My name's Nokia. What're your names? Agumon: Me? My name is Agumon! Gabumon: I... I'm Gabumon. Nokia: Agumon and Gabumon? Hee hee! What weird names! Gabumon: Hey, they're not weird! Agumon: You're the one with the weird name! Nokia: As if! My name's not weird! Hee hee!
And on top of that, Agumon refers to Nokia as having a âfamiliarâ scent. Remember this for later.
Nokiaâs second encounter with Agumon and Gabumon in Cyber Sleuth chapter 3 involves her properly partnering herself with Agumon and Gabumon, and learning about the existence of the âDigital Worldâ. Note that, for all intents and purposes, EDEN had been treated like the functional equivalent of the Digital World in this narrative up until this point -- cyberspace with hackers, coming from the network, itâs basically a âdigital worldâ from top to bottom, and yet here Agumon and Gabumon are introducing the concept of a more fantasy-esque incarnation of a digital world. (And, in fact, despite EDEN being right there, many long-time Digimon fans playing this game often complained about how little you get to see the âDigital Worldâ in this game, because of how associated that term is with something more fantasy-like.) So, again: here we have Nokia, whoâs forming a partnership with Agumon and Gabumon as equals instead of recruiting them as hacker tools (even the protagonist wasnât immune to this method), and being indirectly responsible for introducing the more fantasy-like concept of the Digital World that the modern franchise is currently associated with.
Nokia embarks on the conventional shounen anime character arc of starting off cowardly, but eventually learning to have her own inner strength, with her Digimon evolving in accordance to her emotions. And, eventually, in Cyber Sleuth chapter 8, she decides to form her own hacker team, called the âRebelsâ. She ostensibly bases it off the old creed of Jude, having heard that they were a team that never caused trouble for others, but we later learn via Arata turning out to have been its former leader, and the even later portrayal in Hackerâs Memory of its spiritual successor Hudie, that this is an extremely rose-colored image of them -- Jude (and Hudie) was not a well-intentioned team by any means, but rather a sort of mercenary group meant to enforce the âfreedomâ of EDEN, often taking on shady jobs and âpunishingâ entities they considered to be causing chaos. But in this case, Nokia forms her team under the idea of legitimately fighting for justice and good will -- again, much like a Digimon Adventure protagonist.
In case the metaphor werenât clear enough, Nokia decides that the members of her group will not be called âhackersâ, but âTamersâ -- the same lingo used by the franchise to refer to a human who partners alongside a Digimon to help them get stronger -- and that she wants to promote the idea of humans and Digimon working in tandem (complete with emotional bonding exercises). For this, everyone looks at her weird, and yet her methodology, initially naive as it seems, keeps working, because Nokiaâs natural charisma starts bringing people from different places together and making quite the formidable team. Everyone is perplexed by this, but perhaps itâs only natural, because Nokia has just independently invented the modern concept of Digimon partnership in a world where it did not exist. And this is eventually solidified by the Under Zero invasion in Cyber Sleuth chapter 10, in which Omegamon is finally formed (from sheer guts on her part).
Omegamon is yet another symbol of the modern franchise, but itâs important to remember that he hasnât always been so; even his appearance in V-Tamer was as more of a tactical piece than any kind of game-breaker, but the impact of Our War Game! has led him to constantly make a resurgence in major franchise roles (maybe a little too much these days). However, on top of Nokia basically embodying the modern franchise itself by doing this, Nokia and Arataâs positions are an obvious reference to Our War Game! in particular, being Omegamon and Diablomon Tamers -- but theyâre not seen directly fighting each other. In fact, Arataâs partner only ever reaches Diablomon when heâs at the highest point of his morality, so the reference is more ideological; Nokia represents the more idealistic and heroic side of Digimon, whereas Arata represents the more dirty-playing and cynical hard sci-fi side of it (remember that Diablomon himself was rather detached from the fantasy conflict of Adventure, being a mysterious entity that sprouted out of nowhere on the Internet and wreaked havoc). Moreover, Nokiaâs usage of Omegamon embodies a theme thatâs central to both Our War Game! and Cyber Sleuth itself as a whole -- while most people associate Omegamon with Taichi and Yamato these days, the original method of formation back in Our War Game! came from âbringing people from different places togetherâ. Nokia managed to bring together a formidable army in a place where everyone else in the hacker world was trying to promote a dog-eat-dog philosophy, and the sense of cooperation is arguably making her stronger than anyone else.
(I should also point out that Nokiaâs name is, obviously, a reference to the Finnish telephone communications company, and this has a lot of relevance to the gameâs theme of connection, along with her phone Digivice...and, also, the method used to bring everyoneâs powers together in Our War Game!âs spiritual successor, Diablomon Strikes Back. Feels a bit too on-the-nose here.)
In the second half of the game, when the world starts falling apart due to the Digital World portal opening, Nokia becomes one of most important people holding everything together as Arata goes off the deep end and Yuuko starts fixating on her own personal problems and revenge -- because sheâs the one most in tune with treating Digimon as the living beings they are, sheâs most active in advocating for them and helping them bond with humans, and and sheâs the one making the chaos be a little less chaotic. The second half is basically the more fantasy-esque version of Digimon leaking into the sci-fi, with the sidequests progressively resembling your average Digimon anime monster-of-the-week episode, and holding that all together is Nokia, who becomes a vital figure in maintaining that fellowship by being in tune with the modern franchiseâs philosophy.
Through all of this, Nokia ends up taking a role rather similar to a Digimon protagonist, which is highlighted very strongly in Cyber Sleuth chapter 18 when she ends up literally becoming the player character while the main protagonist is out of commission. During that time, Yuuko and Nokia learn the truth of what happened during the EDEN incident eight years prior -- and we also learn that the five children involved had an extremely conventional âfirst meeting in the Digital Worldâ experience that could have been pulled right out of the first episode of a Digimon anime, with them having a lovely adventure meeting new creatures. And at the center of that âfirst contactâ was none other than Nokia, Agumon, and Gabumon themselves:
Agumon: Um... who are you? Nokia: Ahem! I am Nokia! And just who are you? Agumon: Me? My name is Agumon! Gabumon: I... I'm Gabumon. Nokia: Agumon and Gabumon? Hee hee! What weird names! Gabumon: Hey, they're not weird! Agumon: You're the one with the weird name! Nokia: As if! My name's not weird! Hee hee!
Nokia, Agumon, and Gabumonâs meeting at the beginning of the game had been an (accidental) reenactment of their first meeting in the Digital World eight years prior -- and, in the flashback, Nokia invites them to go on an âadventureâ with them. So in other words, Nokia getting involved in the hacker conflict at the beginning of the game was, unknown to all of them, her attempting to restore that beauty and idealism of the Digimon Adventure-esque philosophy and fun in a world where the Eaters had torn it away and EDEN had turned into a haven of cynicism and hacker battle royale.
In the end, the gameâs conflict is only resolved by bringing everyone together; Arata has to be retrieved from the deep end, and Yuuko has to settle her deep-seated personal grievances. Everyone makes a promise to return together, in the sense of making things right and repairing the connections between them that had been cut in that incident. The final battle (momentarily) causes the playable protagonist to literally fall apart, and the one reaching out to them and sending her message to them at the end of the game is none other than Nokia herself -- again, in the absence of the gameâs protagonist, Nokia is the one with the closest role, because in the face of the new world going forward, she was the one who contributed most to restoring its idealism.
Ultimately, all of this is especially because Cyber Sleuth works under one of the most terrifying imaginable premises for a fan of a kidsâ franchise: âwe made an entry for this, but for adults.â Many of us can testify that this kind of premise can go very well, or very badly -- the latter especially in the case of things that decide âtaking the opportunity to do things that you canât do on a Sunday morning kidsâ timeslotâ means âgoing out of your way to put edgy violence and sexy things and cynicism just because you canâ, or, in other words, looking down condescendingly on its kidsâ franchise roots with malice and deciding that something for adults means âmore sufferingâ and not âissues that require more life experience to understandâ. The reason the game ended up getting as much acclaim among longtime Digimon fans as it did was that despite being the franchiseâs first venture into this territory, it did end up setting itself up as something that took that opportunity to do something new and unique that would have never made it into any of the prior entries (holy hell the doll quest) and yet never gave up on the idealism and themes of connection that make up the franchise at its core, and paid respect to everything that had contributed to all of that while it was at it.
And at the center of that is Shiramine Nokia, who is effectively the spirit of Digimon Adventure, condensed into a single character.

Wrong End of the Ithilien Stick (Legolas x Reader)
Requested by: @elvish-sky
could i request a legolas x reader with angst- like she misheard something he said and they have a falling out- but with a happy ending?
A/N: Here you are!! Hope you enjoy :) bon appetit âïž
They were hopeless â completely, and utterly hopeless. Most who wished to court did so at the first few stolen glances, but not Y/n and Legolas.
Apparently, a yearâs worth of peril on the road did nothing to invoke revelations. The Fellowship journey may have introduced them to one another, but it did nothing to bring them together. No, that was entirely up to them â the worst two to be left in charge of their own romantic fates.
Although, thatâs not to say they entirely went their separate ways in the aftermath. Y/n had stayed behind with Legolas, in Ithilien, where they sought to restore the trees.
The whole process was full of cleared throats, deep blushes and shy smiles. Gimli, on the occasions he would visit, rolled his eyes, and groaned aloud.
âYe still on yer dove dancing, are ye?â he taunted one day.
However, all the pair could do, was look away from one another. Y/n simply felt herself too inferior to his royal status, as to make the first move. Legolas, on the other hand, felt himself too high maintenance to even begin asking her if she minded his princely upbringing.
It was a vicious cycle, but one the four Hobbits sought to destroy, following their next visit.
âSo, we are all aware of our roles?â Frodo asked, as the four friends strolled across a wooden bridge, and into the Ithilien forest.
Frodo had enjoyed the distraction, and appreciated the time away from his cooped-up desk greatly. Any chance to rid himself of the journeyâs memories, was a chance heâd take.
âAye!â Pippin confirmed. âMerry and I are tackling Y/n, and you and Sam will handle Legolas.â
âBy nightfall, those two will be married!â Merry agreed, nodding resolutely.
However, stifling the Hobbitsâ laughter, Y/n and Legolas appeared from nowhere â greeting them by the creekâs bank.
âWhoâs getting married by nightfall?â Y/n sweetly asked, squinting under the bright morning sun.
âI donât mind a wedding,â Legolas added on, smiling down at Y/n. âIf itâs someone we know, perhaps we ought to go. Could borrow some cake?â
âI donât think theyâll be wanting it back, somehow,â Y/n laughed, sharing the Elfâs smile.
Watching as they grinned brightly, and laughed together, the four Hobbits nervously looked at one another.
Oh, how desperately they needed their plan to work. Y/n would shrivel from mortality, before they even had a chance to marry themselves!
âAlas, weâre being rude,â Y/n dismissed, immediately moving forwards to hug all her friends. âItâs been so long since our last visit to the Shire! Weâve missed you all so much!â
âLikewise,â Sam warmly replied, hugging her tight. âWe quite enjoyed the trek on over here too.â
âOh, really?â Y/n excitedly asked, pulling back. âLegolas and I have been working on the trail leading in all year! We finally managed to grow the petunias you sent over as well.â
âThatâs wonderful news,â Frodo smiled, now walking in tow with the girl and Elf, as they led them away. âSoâŠspeaking of news, has anything as of late occurred in Ithilien? Any news of courtship, perhaps?â
âFrom whom?â Legolas tightly asked, not at all liking Frodoâs sly connotation.
âOh, no one in particular,â he lied, sharing a smile with the other Hobbits.
âOf courseâŠâ Legolas dismissed, nonetheless answering, as he walked through the botanical gardens. âWell, not to our knowledge, noâŠoh, but a wonderful pair of deer mated recently! We are expecting fawns any season now.â
âSo are we,â Merry grumbled, rolling his eyes.
Having heard, with his Elven hearing, what the Hobbit said, Legolas confusedly glanced over his shoulder. Nonetheless, he merely only creased his features, before stealing a glance at Y/n. He then looked back up front, as they pressed on walking.
âWell, there is much ground to cover,â Legolas changed the topic, glancing up at the glittering trees. âWe ought to start here first, so that we can make it back in time to-â
âActually, Legolas,â Frodo interjected, coming to a halt, and causing the others to do the same, âwe were thinking, on the way over here, that we ought to maybe split the group in half, so that we might finish earlier this time?â
Blinking down at the Hobbit, Y/n and Legolas knitted their brows. They then unsteadily looked between one another, before Y/n herself piped up again.
âUh, sureâŠwe can do that,â she said. âAny reason why, though?â
âWell, we do want to see your restoration project, and permaculture,â Merry began answering, chewing on the end of his pipe, âbut, weâd prefer to spend some time with just you two as well. You know, at dinner and such. Donât forget, we need supper as well.â
Looking between one another once more, and silently communicating, the two taller friends discreetly shrugged.
âVery well,â Legolas sighed, returning his attention to the Hobbits. âFrodo and Sam, you two can come with me. Merry and Pippin, you join Y/n. Oh, and Merry? Discard the pipe â thereâs no smoking in Ithilien.â
Upholding both palms in surrender, Merry tucked the pipe away. As he and Pippin began following after Y/n, they both shared a sneaky grin with Frodo and Sam. They each all resolutely nodded at one another, before turning around to face back up front.
~
âOh! Oh! Look!â Y/n excitedly pointed out.
Looking upwards, both Merry and Pippin observed a courting pair of bluebirds. They flew around one another, and landed in a little brown nest, high up in a tree.
Grinning brightly, Y/n breathed in the soft spring air.
âOh, donât you just love this time of year?â she wistfully sighed. âThe courting animals, the romantic lighting, the little boats on the lake-â
âTHATâS IT! I CANâT TAKE IT ANYMORE!â Merry exclaimed. He clamped his ears tight, with both hands, and squeezed his eyes shut.
âMerry?â Y/n asked in concern, swiftly turning around to observe him. âAre you alright? Whatâs wrong?â
âWhatâs wrong? Whatâs WRONG?â Merry seethed, finally re-meeting her eyes. âYOU ARE, Y/N, THATâS WHAT!â
âI beg your pardon?â Y/n bit back, looking him up and down with narrowed eyes. âWhat did I do?â
âItâs more like what you havenât done,â Pippin elaborated, ever-so-casually. âActually, both you and Legolas, to be perfectly candid.â
Feeling heat rise to her cheeks, Y/n stammered over her words.
âI-I donât understand-â she tried to say.
âYes, you do,â Merry interjected, using a series of hand gestures to further his point. âYou like him. He likes you. Itâs been like this since Rivendell â BEFORE we all set out for Mordor, mind you! Somehow, destroying that little ring was easier than getting you two to admit your feelings!â
Y/n was at a loss for words. Had it all really been that obvious?
âYes, it really has been that obvious,â Merry piped up again, apparently having read her mind.
Slumping her shoulders, Y/n ran a hand along her face, and complained.
âThis is really humiliatingâŠâ she said. âDo you think Legolas knows too?â
âY/n, not to alarm you, but Iâm pretty sure all of Arda knows,â Pippin winced.
Finding a park bench, Y/n sat herself down in a flush, and groaned.
âWell, whatever am I to do?â she asked, as her two friends each took a seat beside her. âI ought to tell him, I know that much, but I just simply cannot muster the courage.â
âY/n, Iâve seen you slowly decapitate an orcâs head with a picnic knife,â Merry deadpanned, placing a hand on her shoulder. âI think you can handle telling your one true love how you really feel.â
Rolling her eyes at his choice of cheesy words, Y/n soon reeled them into her lap, where she picked at her thumbnail.
âAye, that is true, butâŠâ she pressed on, âwell, look at me, guys. Iâm a commoner, and no amount of true love is going to change that. Heâs a prince, at the end of the dayâŠwhat would everyone think?â
âWhat does it matter what everyone thinks?â Pippin encouraged, holding her other shoulder. âWe, the Fellowship survivors, know above all else just how short life is. You canât spend it worrying about what others will make of your happiness.â
Seeing the cogs turn in her mind, Merry squeezed her shoulder harder, and urged her to look at him.
âYou love him, Y/nâŠyou canât delay any longer,â he said.
Chewing on the inside of her cheek, Y/n creased her brows. It was true, she loved him, more than anything else. Why should she deny herself that, based purely on what others would think?
âYou know something? Youâre right!â she resolutely declared. She stood upwards quickly, and squared her shoulders. âI love him, and I shouldnât care what anyone thinks of my status! Iâm going to tell him â today!â
Whooping and hollering, Merry and Pippin also both jumped to their feet. They pushed her along, as she began jogging away, to where she knew Legolas would be.
âThatâs the spirit, friend!â Pippin cheered. âGo and tell him! And please make the cake red velvet at the wedding!â
Waving over her shoulder with a grin, Y/n pushed her legs faster, as to find Legolas, and finally reveal her heart to him.
~ In the botanical greenhouse, Legolas, Sam and Frodo all stood around â inspecting the many different pot plants.
âAnd this one is a young fern,â Legolas explained, holding a tiny plant up high. âI grew it myself from a seedling. Iâm hoping itâll soon have sprouts of its own, and raise a family, and-â
âOh my goodnessâŠâ Sam sighed, folding his arms, and shaking his head. âYou really are hopeless, you know that, right?â
âPardon?â Legolas confusedly asked, lifting his eyes from the fern. âMy apologiesâŠif you do not like ferns, I could show you the-â
âLegolasâŠI think you ought to sit down for a moment,â Frodo interjected, gesturing to a wooden chair in the middle of the greenhouse.
Furrowing his brows, Legolas warily glanced between the two Hobbits. They stood in front of the chair, and folded their arms â very serious, indeed.
Slowly, Legolas made his way on over towards the chair, and sat down.
Instantly, the two Hobbits closed the greenhouse curtains all around, save for one. The only window left open served one ray of sun, which purely basked Legolas, and Legolas only, as if he were under an interrogation spotlight.
Squinting his eyes, and craning his head to move out of the light, Legolas spoke.
âIs the chair really necessary-â he tried to say.
âRight, letâs cut to the chase,â Sam interjected, standing in front of Legolas with Frodo. âY/n. You like her. She likes you. Now, why havenât you courted her, and made beautiful children yet?â
Staring wide-eyed for a moment, Legolas parted his lips. However, swift in his archerâs mind, he soon sighed. Next, slumping his shoulders, Legolas responded.
âI suppose I havenât been as discreet in my fondness as previously thoughtâŠâ he mused.
âNot in the slightest,â Sam and Frodo said at once.
Twitching his lips to one side, Frodo softly stared down at his friend, and pressed on.
âLegolasâŠwhy havenât you told her of how you feel yet?â he asked.
Lifting his eyes, and wincing them, Legolas considered his thoughts. He knew how much Y/n enjoyed her freedom, and he knew how restricting a royal life could be. He loved Y/n enough to not impose such a confining lifestyle on her â that was why he held back.
Exhaling again, Legolas knew he could no longer hide his feelings from his friends, and responded.
At the same time, just outside of the greenhouse, Y/n ran up to the door. Stumped for a moment, as to why the curtains were all drawn back, she nonetheless moved closer. However, upon hearing muffled voices on the other side, speaking of her in particular, she halted, and listened in.
âAre you jesting, Frodo? Sheâs a commoner,â Legolas said in frustration, shocking the girl outside. âY/n and formalities simply do not mix. How could anyone ever love someone so different from themselves? NayâŠI wouldnât brew that situation.â
Having stumbled backwards in hurt, Y/n felt tears prick at her eyes. She raised both hands, and held them over her chest.
Before she could freely cry, she turned on her heel, and ran away. However, as she did so, she failed to hear the end of Legolasâ sentence, which defined the entire context.
âThatâs why I canât marry Y/nâŠshe deserves better than what I could give her,â he said. âI wouldnât wish for someone so free to be tied down to someone like me...Iâm far too different from her.â
âDoes Y/n not also get a say in the matter?â Frodo sincerely asked, studying his friend apologetically. âY/n loves you, LegolasâŠyou ought to at least give your courtship a chance, regardless of formalities.â
âAye, Frodo is right,â Sam added on, nodding at his raven-haired friend. âYou ought to at least speak to her. It canât hurtâŠwell, it can, but youâll never know until you try.â
Sucking on his lower lip, Legolas knitted his brows. He considered his friendsâ words, and mulled them over. It was true, he loved Y/n, and he was almost certain she him. Perhaps Frodo and Sam were right â simply talking couldnât do much harm, could it?
Nodding his head, Legolas met the Hobbitsâ eyes again.
âAye,â he agreed at last. âYouâre right, I ought to at least ask her!â
Swiftly standing, Legolas moved out from the chair, and headed towards the greenhouse door.
âWeâre proud of you!â Sam cheered, giving a mighty few claps of his hands.
âGood luck,â Frodo smiled, nodding at his friend.
Nodding back once, Legolas beamed bright, and headed outside.
~
Having run away far enough, Y/n now trekked angrily through the forest. Her jaw was set, and her eyes burning. How could he be so nice to her face, only to say such horrible things behind her back? She cared not, for she would maintain the entire other side of Ithilien, from now on.
She, a commoner, would not dare stay with someone who cares so little for her. However, she soon heard a bright voice calling from behind. Turning around, she spotted Legolas swiftly jogging towards her.
âY/n!â he called, wearing an excited smile.
The moment he jogged up to her, Y/n grew cold in her stance. She revered him with distrust, and anger.
This did not go unnoticed by Legolas, whose features dropped, and his mind wiped. He now sought to ensure she herself was okay.
âAre you alright?â he sincerely asked, brimming with concern.
Laughable, Y/n thought. How dare he pretend to care â right to her face as well!
âNever been better,â Y/n seethed, turning on her heel.
Stammering over his words for a minute, Legolas shook the odd mood in the air away. He followed after her, and shyly spoke â though, his words were hasty.
âThereâs something I have to tell you,â he began. However, Y/n wanted none of it.
âYou donât have to tell me anything, your highness!â Y/n snapped, turning around once more, and angrily pointing at him. âI heard enough earlier.â
âYou heard what I said?â Legolas repeated in horror, suddenly feeling his palms grow clammy â for more than one reason.
âEvery last word,â Y/n replied, glaring across at the Elf.
Shocked by her attitude, Legolas was simply at a loss. He shook his head at the ground in confusion, and spoke.
âI-I thought you would have understood?â he said, lifting his puzzled eyes once more.
âOh, I understand!â Y/n sarcastically started, rolling her eyes. âJust like you said yourself; how could anyone love someone so different?â
Truly hurt by her words, Legolas parted his lips. His eyes brimmed in anguish, as all his hopes were suddenly stomped on, and buried beneath the dirt.
âButâŠI thought that wouldnât matter to you?â he said in a small voice.
âYeah, wellâŠI guess you thought wrong,â Y/n replied, scrunching her nose in disdain.
Turning on her heels, Y/n stalked away. Where she was heading? She didnât know â all she knew, is that she could find some better and more loyal company, with just herself.
Left alone, Legolas stood in silence. What had just happened? She truly did not wish to court him, purely because of his royal status? Very well, then â he could do just as fine by himself.
Matching her anger, Legolas too stalked away, but in the opposite direction.
~
Sat down in the grass, and enjoying a picnic by the lake, Frodo and Sam basked in each otherâs company. Merry and Pippin were off who knows where, and doing God knows what. However, all tranquillity soon came to an end, the moment a furious Y/n stomped past.
Staring between one another, and blinking in confusion, the two Hobbits quickly dropped their sandwiches. They rose swiftly, and chased after her.
âHey! Hey, Y/n!â Frodo called, jogging to meet with her. âHave you found Legolas yet? Thereâs something you need to know. We spoke earlier, and-â
âYes, I know you all talked earlier,â Y/n snapped, now recalling exactly whom Legolas spoke with before. She halted, and glared down at the two friends. âYouâre all very good comrades, arenât you? Well, if you are all such good brothers in arms, how about you go find him instead, and leave me alone?â
Noticing that she made a move to stalk away again, along the edge of the glistening lake, both Frodo and Sam confusedly looked between one another once more.
âI beg your pardon, Y/n,â Sam tentatively spoke up, watching her leave, âbut I think you may have the wrong end of the stick here?â
âOh, no, I think I have the exact right idea,â Y/n seethed, rolling her eyes. âI hope you all had a lovely time, speaking about me behind my back â and just a commoner? Really? We canât all be from Bag End, Frodo.â
Confused, but only for a moment, the context suddenly clicked in Frodoâs mind. Racing forwards, he held Y/nâs hand, and kept her in place.
âWait! You DEFINITELY have the wrong idea!â he exclaimed. âI know what youâre angry about, but you have to listen! He wasnât talking about you in that regard â he was referencing his distress over taking you from your farming life, and placing you in royal formalities!â
âWhat are you talking about-â Y/n had gone to say, with a yank of her hand out of his. However, Frodoâs words quickly met her mind, and ceased her tongue.
Oh.
Oh.
Well, now that made more sense.
Feeling a wave of shame wash over her, Y/n bared her teeth in cringe, and winced her features.
âOh myâŠâ was all she could say.
~
A little further off, but still heading towards the lake, and Legolas could be found in the same situation â however, only a few steps behind.
âYou all come into our home, and plant ideas in our heads,â Legolas seethed, striding away from Merry and Pippin, âonly to leave poisonous weeds instead! I donât know what youâve all done behind the scenes, but youâve certainly made nothing better since your arrival!â
âPlease, Legolas! Just tell us what happened!â Merry begged, struggling to keep up.
âWell, thatâs just the thing, isnât it? I donât know!â Legolas exclaimed, rolling his eyes. âOne minute, the last time I was with Y/n, mind you, and we were happy! But the second I see her again, after she spent her morning with you two, and she turns like the tide on a wintery day!â
âThat just doesnât make any senseâŠâ Pippin whispered, creasing his brows. âWhen she left us, she was on her way to tell you all about how much she wished to court you, and-â
Halting in his tracks, Legolas paused. Snapping his head over his shoulder, the Elf questioned the Hobbit, who quickly clamped his mouth shut.
âWhat?â he pressed. âWhat do you mean she was coming to tell me of courting?â
Looking between one another, Merry and Pippin sheepishly bared their teeth. Figuring the cat was already out of the bag, Merry turned back first, and revealed their agenda.
âWell, we somewhatâŠnudgedâŠY/n, to tell you of her love for you,â he said. âLast time we saw her, like I said, she went to find you in the greenhouse.â
Knitting his brows, and mulling the new bouts of information over, Legolas responded through a confused shake of his head.
âBut that just doesnât make any sense,â Legolas continued. âWhat could have soured her perception, from her journey between you, and the greenhouse-â
The greenhouse.
Oh.
Oh.
Having caught his own words, Legolas immediately knew what went wrong. She had thought him to be insulting her status, and he thought her to be rejecting his.
Running a hand over his face, Legolas growled in frustration. Why must love be so hard? Surely, beyond courting, marriage and children, things would be easier, would they not? Well, Legolas wasnât so certain heâd find out now â not unless he tracked down Y/n in time, before their rift planted roots too deep.
âI need to find her,â Legolas frantically began, looking all around himself. âI have no idea where sheâd be â she could be on the other side of the forest, for all I know!â
âUh, I donât think so,â Merry interjected, staring behind Legolas with Pippin.
âHow would you know?â Legolas confusedly asked, though, his frustration edged his tone.
âJust a hunch,â Merry said again, pointing behind the prince.
Looking over his shoulder, Legolasâ formerly hardened features softened. Y/n stood in the near distance behind him, and anxiously stared in his direction â like a deer caught in the headlights. She chewed on her lower lip nervously, and waited by the lapping waterâs edge.
Catching both Frodo and Samâs eye, Merry and Pippin each awkwardly began stepping away, as did the other two Hobbits.
âOkay, weâre just, uhâŠgonna go now, yeahâŠgood luck,â Merry said, dragging his younger cousin away.
Swallowing his nerves, Legolas suddenly felt his knees buckle, and his palms grow clammy. Nonetheless, if he was old enough to court, then he was old enough to resolve relationship issues.
Breathing in a shaky breath, and releasing it through pursed lips, Legolas forced his feet across the grass, to where Y/n stood.
Feeling her own heart hammer, and sweat cling to her temples, Y/n shifted on her feet. She frequently looked between an approaching Legolas, and the lake beside her. Was love meant to be this scary? Would it always be like this? Or was this the end?
She figured she would soon find out, for the prince now stood before her.
Both said nothing. Instead, they merely stole glances, like so many times before, and looked at the rippling lake.
The sun basked them in a warm glow, and the wind blowing through the leaves nearby met their ears. Soon, however, a chilly afternoon breeze rolled through, and darkened the sky overhead.
With a shiver, Y/n wrapped her arms around her form. She rubbed up and down, as to bring the warmth back. She hadnât been wearing a cloak that day, for she figured she needed none. This was, of course, against Legolasâ advisement earlier that morning.
Sensing her cold, Legolas finally studied her again. With a sigh past his nose, he shed his own cloak. Next, stepping forwards, and accelerating both her heartrate and his, he wrapped the green material around her shoulders.
Immediately, the cold of the world was blocked out. It even appeared as though the sun above had made a comeback â breaking through the otherwise grey clouds.
He held her shoulders, as he adjusted the cloak, and secured it over her form. Y/n watched his features, as they creased in both concentration, and consideration.
âWhy would you do that?â Y/n asked, after a moment of quiet study â breaking the silence finally. âWonât you now be cold?â
Although he did not feel the cold the same way she did, Legolas used the moment as an advantage â a hoist to deliver his most inner thoughts, in a way.
âPerhaps, butâŠIâd prefer you to be warm,â he said, having initially jolted at her sudden words.
âWhy?â Y/n tightly asked. She knew why, but she wanted to hear him say it.
Swallowing down his nerves, Legolas slowly met her eyes. They brimmed with nerves, but also adoration â a combination of which Y/n shared. However, hers also bore eagerness, and anticipation.
âBecauseâŠâ he began in a small voice, swallowing once more. âIâŠI, uh-â
âYes?â Y/n whispered, leaning in closer.
Sighing, Legolas buried his nerves away, and did the most un-Elven thing possible. He swept Y/n into a tight embrace, and hugged her warmly.
Shocked for a minute, Y/n widened her eyes. However, she soon melted into his touch, and hugged him back.
âBecause, I believe a partner should ensure theirs is okay,â Legolas finally revealed.
âPartner?â Y/n repeated, in a very small voice. âAnd by partnerâŠyou mean?â
âSomeone I love dearly, and care about most ardently,â he softly replied, kissing the top of her head.
Stunned by his small gesture for a moment, butterflies fluttered in Y/nâs stomach. She then hid said nerves with humour.
âWellâŠthat is definitely hard to misinterpret,â Y/n attempted to joke. However, her joy overwhelmed her, and she squeezed the prince harder. âIf itâs any consolation, I love you tooâŠand Iâm sorry for my brash behaviour earlier.â
âAye, I am as well,â Legolas grinned, swaying her in the sun. âSoâŠthis may perhaps be an ambitious request, butâŠwill you court me? Royal status and all?â
âOf course,â Y/n grinned back. âBut, will you court me, commoner status and all?â
Smiling brighter, and closing his eyes contently, Legolas continued on hugging the girl by the shore. He then softly answered, whilst the sun basked them both in a placid glow â perhaps a tell-tale of the many good days to come.
âWithout question,â he said at last.

MVA In Memoriam (4/5)
The Comprehensive Account of the Butchering of My Villain Academia
(Introduction and Part One, Episode 108: My Villain Academia) (Part Two, Episode 109: Revival Party) (Part Three, Episode 110: Sad Man's Parade)
Part Four, Episode 111: Origin: Shimura Tenko
Chapter 233 â Bright Future
âą Twice clearly having arranged a Skeptic puppet to where its arm can be used as a pillow for Togaâs neck. A cute little character detail while also being kind of disturbing? Very on-brand for the League! A not-immediately-plot-crucial visual of a member of the League demonstrating obvious care for another member? The guillotine awaits!
âą A little explanation about how clonesâ physicality and memories work relative to the last time Twice saw the people the clones are based on. This is a very useful little nod of explanation to something that remained unclear from the dialogue of Mr. Clone-press last chapter. Twiceâs quirk is pretty arcane in its ins and outs, frankly, and the clearer those details are, the fewer plot holes youâre leaving for later.
âą The scene of Skeptic being right on the verge of confronting Twice. Skeptic has, oh, about five moments where heâs obviously a big tense neurotic whoâs unpleasant to be around if things arenât going his way, and the anime deleted or downplayed all but two of them. As ever, itâs obscenely damaging to the characterization of the MLA cast, who we have little enough time with as it is. Further, it was a particularly weird choice to make with Skeptic, who is as of this writing the only major MLA character whoâll emerge still free and active from the War Arc. Why shaft the characterization of the one of new characters whoâs going to be getting the most attention out of any of them in the next arc, with yet more scenes yet to come after?[1]
âą A full pageâs-worth of Spinnerâs rationalizations on targeting Trumpet and ordering the Twice doubles to do the same. This lays out the details on why targeting Trumpet stands to relieve some of the load on Shigaraki. It isnât because Trumpetâs quirk makes the crowds more dangerous, though that is true. Spinner targets Trumpet because heâs seen enough to know that attacking the MLAâs leaders gets them crazy riled up; he knows that if he makes himself a threat to Trumpet, then all Trumpetâs followersâ attention will shift focus to Spinner, leaving Shigaraki with less to deal with. Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Spinner also knows that that is ludicrously dangerous to him personally, given his weak quirk, but he actively makes that choice anyway, because thatâs how much heâs devoted himself to Shigaraki without (yet) quite articulating the nature and reasons for that devotion. Targeting Trumpet without any of that reasoning made for a perfectly sound tactical decision, but it missed the regard Spinner shows the unnamed mobs of the MLA, and it really missed the probable savage beatdown and even possible death that Spinner consciously chooses to risk for Shigarakiâs sake. Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Of course, a chunk of what the episode deleted is flashbacks to scenes the anime also cut, so they couldnât figure into Anime!Spinnerâs reasoning. This does not excuse yet more cuts to Spinnerâs arc and characterization; it only adds to how badly the anime maimed him. Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Also, on a less salty but still confused note, deleting all the Twice clones from the beginning of the scene and just having Spinner running along a wall past mobs of people instead of laboriously fighting his way through the street to the van was really dumb. Why did all those MLA people just stand there and let him run by? Where did all the Twice clones that just helped save Spinner from a huge flurry of long-distance attacks disappear to? Come on.
âą Trumpetâs thought that using Sevens Loud will draw every bit of strength from their warriors, but that itâs necessary. Setting aside that it looks far less necessary when there hasnât been a crowd of Twice clones fighting Trumpetâs people this whole time, just Spinner by his lonesome, we still lost quite a bit to this cut. Firstly, a nuance on the trade-off Incite givesâthat its stat-boost is temporary, and that itâs borrowing from the future to pay for the present, a stock that is limited and a bill that will come due when the effect wears off. Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Secondly, itâs another demonstration that the MLA leaders arenât just thoughtlessly wasting their followersâ lives; theyâre very consciously doing cost/benefit analysis on how much danger their people are in versus what stands to be gained by the potential exertion or outright deaths those people will suffer. Itâs cold reasoning, yes, but thatâs how the Liberation Army operates: not for the personal gain or lackadaisical ease of the people on topâTrumpet would just have been in the tower speaking through city-wide loudspeakers, if that were the caseâbut for the advancement of the groupâs ideals. Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â It also just grants Trumpet some interiority, but of course the anime canât have that.
âą The note in Trumpetâs meta-ability explanation that the more his voice causes the air to vibrate, the stronger Inciteâs effect. This isâgood god, it is literally the entire design mentality behind Sevens Loud! Sevens Loud purpose isn't to make his voice louder so more people can hear him (which I would think is the most logical assumption an anime-only person would make as to why he puts it on); itâs to make himself louder because being louder enhances the boost. Itâs about the quality of the effect, not the quantity of targets. This is why Trumpet has the thought about how using Sevens Loud will drain the strength reserves of his people. Thereâd be no correlation there if Sevens Loud were only about boosting his range.
âą When Spinner got porcupined in the anime, they did a close-up on his face, possibly to avoid the gore of showing the spines piercing through his forearm. Thatâs fine, but they also emphasized the reaction by having him lose his grip on the huge fuck-off knife he had clutched in his teeth. In the manga, sure, he yells in pain, but he doesnât lose the knife. Indeed, he gets the guy off him by slashing at him with itâa shot the anime dropped. So Spinner doesnât even get to keep displays of his pain tolerance, a trait he doubtless improved during those six weeks against Machia. Why does the anime hate Spinner so much, you guys? Why did it go out of its way to make him look lamer, when Dabi and Toga were out there getting anime-original flourishes to make them look cooler?
âą Spinnerâs thoughts, âWhen I get inspired to act, I donât know what the heck Iâm doing! Iâm just a loser jumping on a bandwagon. Or at least thatâs what it looks like.â A humorous bit of self-awareness from Spinner here. The anime got at the self-awareness. The humor, as weâll see, not so much.
âą Spinnerâs thoughts, âLook at me. Look at me!! With all that prejudice in your eyes!â Hah hah, laughed BNHA the anime nervously, what prejudice are you talking about, Spinner? No idea what you could possibly be referring to there! This oneâs particularly annoying because, while one might think that the anime was just dodging the heteromorphobia angle it eradicated all references to back at the beginning of the arc, the prejudice line isnât even about heteromorphobia, not really. Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â See, the Japanese line there literally translates to, âWith those colored glasses!ââto see with colored glasses being a Japanese idiom for seeing something from a biased viewpoint. So aside from being a wordplay jab at Trumpetâs choice in eyewear, itâs also about Trumpetâs expressed view that Spinner, having been a shut-in with a weak quirk who decided to take his resentment out on the world, canât possibly amount to anything much. So, what, did the people in charge of making those cuts think Trumpet was right? Why even keep the line where he disparages Spinner if youâre not going to let Spinner call it what it is? Heâs not calling out fantasy racism there, anime! Heâs calling out the bias against weak quirks that even the good guys in this world sometimes partake in! Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Possibly itâs because non-villains in the world[2] sometimes use reasoning that leads logically to quirk supremacism that the anime got gunshy with it, or it was more reluctance to give the villainsâand the Too-Real Iguchi Shuuichi especiallyâmoral ground for accusations against their society that get too close to real life. Whatever the motivation, itâs a bullshit cut.
âą Shigaraki calling RD âDetnerat,â presumably because he neither knows RDâs real name nor cares to dignify him by using his code name. The anime, again, made neither the connection nor Shigarakiâs recognition explicit, so it lost the specificity and pettiness of that little snub.
âą A little exchange between Giran and a Twice clone as they flee. It doesnât give you much you wouldnât assume just from seeing them flee, but it always feels more immediate and empathetic when the characters talk and you can see their expressions, instead of just a quick shot of them from behind as they run away in complete silence. Heck, running away in complete silence is actively out of character for Twice!
âą Because the anime has some kind of aversion/restriction on showing hand-related violence, it radically changed how Shigaraki lost his fingers,[3] resulting in the loss of several important shots. To the best of my parsing, in the manga, when Re-Destro makes that first big jump to avoid Shigarakiâs decay wave, he comes back down specifically aiming for Shigarakiâs outstretched left hand, spread wide and flat on the ground. Shigaraki tries to evade (you can see the blur of his left arm in the panel where RD lands), but either RD does manage to clip the hand or he simply hits the ground with so much force that the sheer explosive burst of rock shreds Shigarakiâs hand and part of his coat sleeve. Being so much larger, RD then simply snags Shigaraki by the wrist before he can get out of range. Itâs very fast, a burst of speed and violence, and very different (read: cooler) from Shigaraki flipping end over end in slow motion in a way that seemed to imply visually that he was thrown well out of RDâs grabbing range. Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â As to the shots we lost? I counted three. First, Hanaâs hand crumpling amidst all the flying debris. Second, that big dramatic panel of Shigarakiâs maimed hand ribboning blood into the air as the narration box finally drops Re-Destroâs identity and code name. Third, the shot of him catching Shigaraki, almost delicately, between one thumb and forefinger and delivering the, âWas it this hand that committed such evil acts?â lineâa clear threat to what of that hand Shigaraki has remainingâas we find out what his meta-ability is. Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â This is all hugely dramatic in the manga, because, of course, readers always assumed Shigaraki needed all five fingers to activate his quirk, and here Re-Destro nigh-effortlessly robs him of fully half his capacity to use it. Itâs a shocking turn-around and instantly ups RDâs threat level by allowing him to permanently maim Shigaraki in a way that no one, hero or villain, has done before or since. Robbing Re-Destro of the immediacy of that seemingly devastating blowâinflicted within moments of meeting the real Shigarakiâdid immeasurable damage to his credibility as an arc boss. Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â The shot in the manga is also just arresting visually, with RD finally getting to properly loom over Shigaraki. Most of the shots up to this point have been framed such that, while RD is obviously bigger, he and Shigaraki have still been moving and fighting in a pretty level way. This is the first place where the viewer is situated so squarely behind Shigaraki that they can really feel how massive RD is in comparison. Itâs certainly a more impressive visual than this messâthanks, anime; thanks, whatever broadcasting standards forced overworked and uninspired animators to undertake a redraw of RDâs quirk reveal panel when every other member of the MLA brass had theirs carried over directly from the manga.
âą A chapter-ending cliffhanger of Slidinâ Go helping direct traffic on the outskirts of Deika and the warning rumble as Gigantomachia approaches. Aside from being a nice little tension boostâWill Gigantomachia roll up just in time to see Re-Destro making a mess of Shigaraki? Who will he target? Will Shigaraki ever be able to win him over if he sees a scene like that?âitâs good foreshadowing for what the news reports will eventually be saying. Remember, the claim is that a bunch of villains lured Deikaâs heroes away and then attacked the city while it was defenseless; thatâs why we never see any of the MLAâs heroes involved with the fight once it starts. And now, here, we find out where theyâve been the whole time: making sure no outsiders get in who might be able to undermine that narrative.
Framing Shifts
âą Once again had an MLA member using their Detnerat item say its name out loud, when itâs clear in the manga that theyâre just thinking the names internally. Once again, it was kind of silly.
âą When Spinner flashes back to watching Stain on TV and being inspired, the manga uses a shot of Stainâs face, snarling and defiant. The anime usedâa shot of Stain from behind, only visible from the shoulders to the knees, hunched so that his lower back and ass were towards the camera. Bones⊠What exactly were you implying lit Spinnerâs fire there? Or did you just not have the time or budget to go pull Stainâs reference sheets for drawing his face?
âą A tone issue, but a major one: Spinner should be grinning, face alight with accusatory challenge, as he hurls his accusations of the MLA/Trumpet being the same bandwagon-jumping nobodies that he is. This is the moment in the manga where we see Spinner truly throw his hesitations and his doubts to the wind and embrace Shigarakiâs nihilistic fervor and the beauty, value and profundity of emptiness. So what if Iâm empty? So what if he wants emptiness? Who cares about other peoplesâ ideals if their ideals leave no room for me? Itâs not a heroic triumph, but itâs a triumph all the same, and losing Spinnerâs smile made the moment far too bitter.
âą Meanwhile, in exactly the opposite problem, Shigaraki by this point is not smiling. In fact, heâs barely on his feet, swaying violently in place with accompanying sound effects. While his words are openly mocking, he seems to wholly lack the energy to back them up with his usual verve. The anime didnât have him smiling, admittedly, but the whole time the âcameraâ wasnât directly on his face, his voice actor was reading the lines with an uneven, chuckling cadence that suggested Shigaraki was seconds away from breaking into howls of laughter. He was also, of course, impossibly clean, at a point at which his manga counterpart is muddy, bloody and tattered from the horrifically extended combat heâs been living for six weeks. Itâs stuff like this that made it so impossible to take the Army or even Machia as much of a threat in the anime, when, other than the red cords on his hands being broken, Shigaraki looked absolutely no different than usual.
Additions
âą Gave Spinner a tiny bit of new animation when he got mobbed by people hopped up on Incite. It was nice, but if they were going to give him a flourish, Iâd rather it have come when he swipes Porcupine Dude off him with a combat knife. Or, you know, just kept the bit of him telling the Twices to attack and his reasoning on why.
âą Cut inside briefly to show a ballerina girl dancing through a darkened apartment right before she sliced a neat circle out of the wall. I love it, A+, exactly the kind of expansion on the action of the manga I wanted to see. My only complaint is that her manga self looked more like Pearl from Steven Universe.[4] XD
âą A quick new shot of RD when Shigaraki was hounding him about his feelings. His teeth were visibly gritted, the corners of his mouth pulled down. It stands out because thereâs only one shot of RD there in the manga, and in it, heâs smiling, close-mouthed and calm. The anime copied said shot, smile and all, then cut away, and when it cut back, Re-Destro had a totally different expression on his face. Baffling. Anime!RD having a dour scowl everywhere manga!RD is smiling in a tight, controlled way was all over the fight scene, and it detracted from the sense of RDâs menace every time.
Chapter 234 â Destruction Sense
âą The illustration(s) accompanying Re-Destroâs, âLetâs not judge people by their quirks,â line. The pictures are cute, but the real loss there was the note informing us that theyâre excerpts from a childrenâs book published by ShoowayshaâCuriousâs outfitâcalled Quirks and Us. Thatâs a very concrete illustration of the kinds of things the MLA is getting up to in the world, and an equally concrete thing an anime-only viewer lost. Of course, that viewer never even found out Curious was in publishing, so it wouldnât have meant anything on that front, but there is one other thing I think is notable: the way that book implies that the only people explicitly pushing a âdonât judge other people by their quirksâ message are the radical Liberationists. Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â See, the rest of the story touches on the virtues of a nonjudgmental attitude here and there, but actually finding people willing to say it out loud isâunprecedented, I think. Deku comes across situations where he could say something like that multiple times and he never, ever doesânot to Shouto, nor to Shinsou, nor to Eri, nor to the giant fox lady. And thatâs not even touching on Shoujiâs mask, or the discrimination Spinner faced, or the CRC âlosing supportâ without being declared illegal. I think the manga itself is against judging people by their quirks, but itâs interesting that it doesnât make its characters into mouthpieces to say as much. This is because its characters are thoroughly enmeshed in a society that very much does judge people by their quirks, regardless of whether or not it will say that doing so is bad or rude or prejudiced. Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Re-Destro and the MLA arenât immune, of courseâRe-Destro himself says that quirks are linked to personalityâbut they adhere to a different set of values than the larger society does. While Hero Society talks about quirks in terms of being heroic and/or useful versus villainous and/or useless, the MLA spectrums instead emphasize how capable a personâs quirk is of helping them exert their will and how ambitious the quirkâs bearer is in that exertion. That is, their ethics are less about morality and utility-to-society than they are about aspiration and utility-to-self.[5] Both worldviews have their pros and cons, but that, I think, is what the childrenâs book is getting at when it says not to âjudgeââdonât assign an arbitrary moral value to a quirk; judge a person by their actions. Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â And isnât it interesting, that the only explicit verbal statement of that value comes from the leader of a radical cult descended from a famous insurrectionist quoting a childrenâs book published by a member of selfsame radical cult? The value is not ever stated by a member of the heroic cast, so are we to assume that the heroes don't actually believe it? Do people profess to believe it but everyone knows itâs only for courtesyâs sake, with only the MLA willing to breach that wall of âthings we donât talk about in polite societyâ to actually talk about it in anything other than platitudes? Obviously, you lose this entire line of discussion when the "don't judge people by their quirks" value is just never mentioned at all.
âą The phrase, âIn that case,â from RDâs, âYou will never measure up to me.â It establishes continuity to what RD was saying before. Heâs not taking breaks from talking while Shigaraki has flashbacks; the two are happening concurrently.
âą RDâs, âCracking apartâŠ?â reaction to his Decayed fingertip, and the dripping blood from the injury. Iâm not hugely fussed about the former, but I like the latter as indicative of what Re-Destroâs Stress powers actually do. That is to say, he isnât covering himself in a thick shell of Stress power or something; his Stress powers make him physically larger, infusing his body and swelling his size. Thatâs why he bleeds when Shigaraki touches his fingertip.           Admittedly, the size distinction was more obvious in the anime, where the audience watched RDâs shoulders inflate like balloons last episode, compared to the manga, where you donât get in-between animation. Still, given that RD still has that wound even when he goes back down to normal size, and is still wearing bandages for his speech a week later,[6] itâd be nice to mark the severity of the wound with a bit of blood. Oddly, the anime did keep the wound for the crater scene, visible red slices opened in the flesh along the length of his finger, very obviously the sort of injury that would have bled upon being first sustained. Maybe RD ran afoul of whatever the studio mandate is on when Decay has a dust effect and when it leaves gore? (More of that later.)
âą Shigarakiâs, âMother!â for the first panel we see of her. Itâs obvious enough who she probably is, but odd that we got a whole bunch of narration for Hana, and likewise an acknowledgment of his grandparents, but not even a single word for Nao.
âą Very significantly drops the grandfatherâs, âEating yummy things helps make the sadness go away.â Grandpaâs not just randomly handing Tenko his favorite snack in that memoryâheâs trying to treat some kind of grief or wrong without actually addressing the wrong, opting to just put a flavorful band-aid on it. That could be fine if it were something outside Grandpaâs control, but weâve already gotten some early hints from Hanaâs phrasing that things are not okay in the household, and thus the grandfatherâs attempt to bribe Tenko with sweets is just as ominous a sign of whatâs to come as the grandmotherâs attempt to guilt him into not crying lest he make her cry too.
âą A little shot of Shigaraki stirring in the rubble when RD answers the phone. Itâs a nice demonstration of their size difference, especially comparing both of them to Machia, who we just saw tearing through buildings like the kaiju his theme music declares him to be.
Framing Shifts
âą When Shigaraki narrates that Hana always took him by the hand when he got weepy, she actually does take his hand in the manga, her fingers wrapped around his, his clasped over hers. It emphasizes that this is what he canât do anymore, simply hold hands with people, the innocence lost aspect, and it suggests the closeness he once had with his sister. Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â In the anime, she reached out a hand but wound up taking him by the wrist instead, his hand splayed open beneath hers. This suggested, albeit very implicitly, that maybe that innocence was something he never had from the beginning; it also suggested less reciprocity in his relationship with Hana. Even though Tomura said in narration that their hands were joined, what we saw was that Hana just pulled him where she wanted him and he didnât fight her on it, not that he held her hand in return. Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Alternatively, the anime could have been drawing a parallel to how her hand would eventually be gripping his wrist in a much different context (a more necrotic one, for starters) later in life, though if that's what they were going for, they could have stood to tweak the dialogue so it actually matched the onscreen action. (Credit to @robotlesbianjavert and @aysall respectively for these two theories!)
âą Shigaraki still having his fingers when Re-Destro squeezed his hand made RD look like a real moron. I assume the intention was that he assumed heâd done enough damageâbroken bones, torn ligaments, etcâto prevent Shigaraki from being able to move his hand in more than spastic twitches, but like, if all it takes is a hard enough spasmodic clench to dust you, you are playing much riskier games than the MLA is generally portrayed as favoring. (Not that the anime kept many of the scenes that demonstrated all the planning and prep that the MLA did as groundwork for their attack, as I have complained about at length.) Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â In the same sequence, Anime!RD turned and bodily hurled Shigaraki away from him, while Manga!RD threw him a similar distance with nothing more than a flick of a finger. Anime, why you gotta make Re-Destro look so lame all the time?
Additions
âą Just one episode prior, the anime managed to turn in an entirely reasonable assemblage of swiping and dodging between Shigaraki and Re-Destro while RD was rambling on about the Mother of Quirks. What the hell was the excuse for this episodeâs ridiculous shot of Shigaraki literally running circlesâbig, broad circlesâaround RD multiple times in the time it took RD to finish one (1) thought? For heavenâs sake, if you donât have the budget for flashy, just use slow motion or more flashback animation or something. I know thereâs more leeway for long thoughts in manga, where the reader understands that thoughts are moving far faster than action, and that it can be hard to bridge that gap for anime, where motion is motion but voice acting still has to rattle its way to the end of a sentence. I understand that measures have to be taken to account for that. Still, I promise, something that just looks a bit padded is much preferable to something that looks outright dumb.
âą I admit to having found huge Stress monster RD pulling out a teeeeeny-tiny cellphone very funnyâeven more so the distinct cracking sound it made when Skeptic reported in bad news and RDâs fingers tightened infinitesimallyâbut the manga suggests fairly strongly that RDâs just answering on some kind of earpiece or micro-receiver, the same kind of thing Ujiko hands out and that Skeptic is associated with on multiple occasions. Itâd be nice if RD could have kept more of the jokes he actually makes, the ones that stem from his native good humor, rather than the anime making up new ones based entirely in the contrast of Re-Destro and the viewerâs expectations of Re-Destro.
Chapter 235 â Shimura Tenko: Origin
âą The man at the door, whom Nao is apologizing to at the beginning of the Tenko flashback and the apparent reason Tenko got busted for playing hero. I donât love the way deleting this obscured that Tenko, in some fashion, troubled someone to lead to Kotarou dragging him down the hall (the anime also dropped Kotarouâs subsequent line, âCausing trouble?!â thatâs supposed to supplement his, âPlaying hero again?â), but itâs not like the manga doesnât imply that the same thing would happen for any hero-based rules infraction, regardless of whether it troubled strangers or not. No, the much, much funnier thing to me is how it just fuckinâ torpedoed the most obvious thing people point to when they posit that All For One gave Tenko Decay, kicking off the entire tragedy: the man at the door with the conspicuously shadowed face and the even more conspicuously AFO-like suit and dress shirt with the top button unfastened. Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Listen, I hate that theory and what it would do to the narrative of Shigaraki Tomura/Shimura Tenko as Hero Societyâs long-overdue reckoning, the villain they canât put down and the victim they canât silence, so watching the anime summarily cut out the scene that really kicked the theory into overdrive was very validating! Conversely, I still can't deny that it's a plausible theory, so if it does turn out to be true, that means the anime shot itself in the foot on the most obvious bit of foreshadowing this side of AFO addressing Tenko by name when he finds him in the alley. The schadenfreude of that would also be very funny. Really, unlike every other cut this season, I regard this one as win-win for my personal experience with the anime. Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Incidentally, I was very prepared to complain about the anime dropping all the changes of clothes the Shimura family goes through over the course of the flashbackâI regard the timelapse as one of the major points against the AFO Gave Tenko Decay theory, since itâs never taken a quirk bestowed by AFO multiple days, maybe even multiple weeks, to kick in beforeâbut it turns out Iâm a lot less bothered about them not taking the time to change the side charactersâ clothes when the anime also deletes the dude at the door who is the only reason I care about clarity re: how much time the flashback covers! But just for the record, while they had more outfits than I was expecting them to, the family did go through fewer changes of clothes in the anime than in the manga.
âą The full echo of the line about kids being sneaky and simple in favor of Narrator!Shigaraki just letting out this exhausted, rueful, âAhhh, kids areâŠâ I actually rather like it. Itâs a clear reference back to the earlier line without having to restate the whole thing, and Uchiyama Koukiâs delivery is really excellent.
âą Kotaroâs first slap of Tenko, the only one directly portrayed on-panel, and Mon-chanâs barking in response. On the one hand, I think thereâs an argument to be made for the scene flowing a bit better like thisâwhy wouldnât Grandpa try to stop him from going for that second slap; why wouldnât Nao pass Hana off to Grandma and do something instead of just standing there yelling for the entire scene? It makes a bit more sense if theyâre hesitant to intervene because Kotarou has âonlyâ grabbed at Tenkoâs collar and they donât yet know how that itâs going to escalate to naked physical violence in a way that it never has before. Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â On the other hand, that first slap is so visceral and shocking. Nowhere else in the manga is domestic violence portrayed more sharply and directly, in greater detail or more cruelly generous panel space than in this moment. Itâs in the difference in size between Kotarou and Tenko, the force behind the hit thatâs enough to knock Tenko clear off his feet, the pages upon pages of gut-churning lead-up to this moment and what we know will be following soon after. Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Also too, it makes the familyâs failure to help Tenko much worse that no one else acts when Kotarou pulls back for a second hit. The first one, you could almost excuse because no one saw it coming; the second throws those justifications out the window and spits on them afterward. Two hits are importantânot only for what they tell Tenko in the moment about his family's inaction, but because two hits speak in ways one hit doesn't to how wildly uneven the power balance is in the house, that Nao and her parents could witness something like that and not only fail to intercede, but then take who knows how long to work up the courage to confront Kotarou afterwards. Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â I understand very well the fear of showing this in a family TV timeslotâthe violence is so much more real than any big fantasy beat-âem-up could ever beâbut itâs the kind of thing that really drives home what Tenko needed to be saved from even back then, a social issue that heroes as they currently exist were in no position to address. Far from demonstrating that heroes aren't at fault for what happened to Tenko, though, what this scene truly does is vividly illustrate the flaws in All Might's social contract, in which his power and smile seem to promise that he can save absolutely everyone, only to leave children like Tenko out in the cold with no explanation as to why. It's brutal because it has to be, and the anime shying away from depicting Kotarou's physical abuse undercut that.
Framing Shifts
âą There was a bizarre, nonsensical change to the scene at the beginning of the chapter where RD is figuring out how Shigaraki survived/got back up after taking a Burden attack head-on. The mangaâs explanation is that Shigaraki didnât actually take a full force hit because he was Decaying it even as it was blowing him back. This is somewhat silly, given that even a reduced-strength Burden is still strong enough to put him through multiple buildings. It is, however, less silly than the animeâs take, in which Shigaraki touched Re-Destro rather than the corporealized Stress of Burden. How Re-Destro survived a full-fingered touch from Shigarakiâs completely uninjured right hand[7] went totally unexplained; the problem was then compounded by Re-Destro delivering manga-accurate lines about Burden not being an evadable attack despite âevasionâ having nothing to do with Shigarakiâs actions. Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Anime!Shigaraki didnât dodge the Burden attack any more than Manga!Shigaraki did; unlike Manga!Shigaraki, however, Anime!Shigaraki also did nothing to reduce the impact of the attack. So not only was how Shigaraki survived the Burden attack not explained, the change to the material also opened up the plot hole of how Re-Destro survived a direct touch attack that Shigaraki in the manga never lands.
âą There was also an extremely weird decision made to give Tenko dark, gray-blue eyes, obviously reminiscent of Nanaâs, and suggest that they became red at the same time as his hair was changing to white. But in the manga, other than the size, thereâs no difference between young Tenkoâs eyes and how Shigarakiâs eyes have always been drawnâan unshaded iris with a visible pupil and a relatively thick line delineating the iris from the white of the sclera. Tenkoâs eyes never matched those of anyone else in his family, least of all his dark-eyed grandmother. His hair changed color because of a trauma response,[8] but his eyes were always red.
âą Relocated Shigarakiâs first, âLittle kidsâŠare sneakier than youâd expect. And simpler,â to underscore Hana showing him Nanaâs picture in the study, squarely centering the line on her. And like, yes, that line does get its bitter echo later when Hana panics in the face of her fatherâs fury and throws the blame onto Tenkoâbut that line isnât just about her; itâs also about what Tenko wanted to hear from the other adults in his life. It didnât matter that his father didnât approve; if he could get at least one adult to say he could be a hero, to take his side, then he could feel vindicated.           Itâs a childâs sneaky, simple reasoning: if an adultâs words are absolute, you just have to get one (1) adult to agree with you. Itâs asking Dad if you can do something you donât think Mom will agree to, and then going to Mom with Dadâs permission held defensively in-hand. Laying the line over Hana obscures that itâs as much about Tenkoâs craving for external validation as it is Hanaâs (entirely understandable) deceitful streak.
âą After half a season full of internal monologue being voiced aloud even when it made little sense to do so, the anime decided to render clearly talk-bubbled dialogueâTenkoâs chatting at Mon about how he feels like he could take on the worldâas internal monologue instead. Who talks to their animals in their heads when they could be talking at them directly like pet owners the world over?
Additions
âą Added a few extra stills of Kotarou rebuking Tenko and dragging him around. I donât think theyâre inaccurate to the situation, though I wonder if it really needed to be underlined two more times than the manga did. Maybe they were trying to make up in advance for deleting the first slap?
âą Added a few new stills of Nana and child!Kotarou. They hurt my soul and I love them without reservation.
Chapter 236 â Shimura Tenko: Origin, Part 2
âą Hanaâs second apology. What needs to get across was communicated with her first apology, but I do think the second one adds some naturalism to the dialogue. It feels very normal for a child feeling extremely guilty to apologize multiple times, like the more times they say it, the more true/convincing it will become.
âą A bit of Tenkoâs internal monologueâthinking Hanaâs name, and Monâs, and that he canât talk. The anime slipped some attempts at verbalizing âMonâ into the dialogue, and it was painfully obvious just from listening to him gag and choke that he was too horror-struck to get words out, in ways that would be a little harder to convey on the page. Also, he thinks again that he canât talk just as Hana runs away, so it gets across regardless. No real complaints here.
âą Some thoughts about how heâs itchy, which, given what his itch represents (or at least what he thinks it does), they probably should have kept for continuityâs sake.
âą Tenkoâs last, âHana-chan!â just as he grabs for her. I can imagine it having just that little bit more desperate impact, especially given Sekine Arisaâs great delivery of the first âHana-chan!â but his delivery of the first one was greatâweeks later, I can still remember it clearlyâso itâs not a snip Iâm inclined to doomsay about.
âą Hanaâs verbalization as the Decay hits her. Given that they kept Mon-chanâs last whimper, itâs kind of inconsistent not to keep this. Itâs grueling, sure, but no more so than the rest of the horror show shortly to follow.
âą An echo of Naoâs defense of Kotarouâs anti-hero stance. Frankly, I think anime already over-indulges in echoing dialogue weâve heard not ten minutes prior, so I donât mind losing thisâin the manga, the moments would have fallen in different chapters, so it makes more sense to squeeze in the little reminder, but that wasnât necessary for the anime, in which the original moment and the callback happened barely more than five minutes apart. It was obvious what the mental image was meant to draw attention to, since Tomura was narrating about exactly what his grievance was, and the image was followed by the two equivalent moments with the grandparents. (Admittedly, it hurt that correlation a bit that Grandpaâs line about the ohagi being intended to make the sadness go away got cut, but the sentiment was pretty clear from the manâs expression of nervy, abashed guilt regardless.)
âą The line of Decay that splits Naoâs eye, one of the more vividly horrific little grace notes in the chapter. It undercut the grotesquerie just the tiniest bit, but the sceneâs grotesque as-is, so I can understand that slight edit for TV standards. The discrepancy between Decay-to-dust and Decay-to-gore, discussed below in Framing Shifts, was much more damaging.
âą A shot of Kotarou just after he hits Tenko with the tree pruning shears in which he looks, briefly, incredibly distraught, like heâs just realized what a monster heâs become. The anime didnât make the slightest of attempts to keep that spasm of horror, grief, and regret, and thus lost that last moment of sympathy for a man deeply traumatized by a heroic characterâs actions. Itâs my only complaint about Anime!Kotarou, who I was otherwise far more pleased with than I was afraid might be the case, but itâs a complaint I must register nonetheless.
âą A bit of inarticulate yelling before Tenko screams, âYou... Die!!â It helps get across Tenkoâs rage overflowing, to have that wordless garble before he can actually wrap words around it. He was still having trouble talking, too, so it makes sense that his first vocalization would just be a long, incomprehensible screech. That said, with the music there to supplement the mood in a way the manga would lack, I donât think the animeâs rendition of the scene suffered overmuch from its absence.
Framing Shifts
âą The anime, of course, has always gone the dust route for Decay because Decay is a little too gruesome for family hour TV, and anyway, when Tomura gets as fast with Decay as he is in Deika, he really is just insta-dusting people, such that not even blood remains. But he wasnât that fast or that thorough as a child, hence why itâs all so much gorierâand it needs to be, because itâs hard to imagine Hana freaking out like she does if all she sees is a pile of dust instead of, well, dog gobbets. (Also, if his family had gone the dust route, it would have been very hard to convince the audience that Tomuraâs hands are his family hands and not fakes provided to AFO by Ujiko.) Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â This obviously put the anime in a difficult spot, but apparently the decision they settled on wasâto not decide? Everyone we saw in the active process of decaying decayed into dust as usual, but then once they were done decaying, once that transition from person to ruin was complete, there were all these heaps of gore everywhere. It was a very strange and distracting inconsistency that hurt the scene much more than any of the nearly invisible cuts, and I hope the blu-rays will change it.
âą Added Grandpa catching Grandma as she staggered at the sight of things in the yard. Since his body language in the manga (the only non-Decayed shot of him in the sequence) has him leaned more forward, like heâs still halfway through running towards the kids, I thought this was a nice little touch on why he stopped, for reasons other than just the obvious.
                                                         ---
Episode 111 was about half of a really strong episode. Most of my complaints about the Shimura Family flashback are very minor, and most of the ones that are less minor are still easy to overlook when the rest of the presentation was so strong. Unfortunately, the non-flashback half of the episode had as many problems as ever, and those aren't over yet.
Come back next time for Part Five, Episode 112: Origin: Shigaraki Tomura. Assuming my complaining about the finalized gutting of Spinner's arc doesn't get too out of handâwhich it may; if so, I'll tack on one final part to wrap things upâI'll also be running down a quick overview of the Paranormal Liberation Front scenes in the Endeavor Agency arc and some various odds & ends.
FOOTNOTES
[1] Yes, I know the Skeptic Confronts Twice scene goes nowhere, but maybe, instead of deleting it, they could have patched it up by showing Skeptic turning away from the confrontation when the tower went down? You know, actually made an effort to improve on the material?
[2] Bakugou, of course, but also Inko, Kotarou, and, very prominently, even All Might. Deku circa MVA has an entire arc lying in wait for him about how much heâs internalized All Mightâs paternalism re: having the strongest quirk.
[3] Indeed, as of the scene in the crater, he still hadnât lost them at all! He had his prosthetic by the time of the speech, so I guess weâre meant to assume that Ujiko or some MLA doctor declared them past saving and amputated them. I hope I donât need to tell you how unbelievably lame it is to have a shounen manga character sustain a permanent injury like that off-panel.
[4] Itâs the pointy nose.
[5] That, at least, is the best way Iâve found to reconcile all the related-but-distinct values professed by the various members of the MLA brass, from Re-Destroâs focus on liberation and purpose, what exactly Trumpet chooses to cite when heâs talking about Spinner not âamountingâ to anything much, Getenâs open extolling of quirk supremacy, and so on.
[6] In the first big double-page spread. Oddly, no bandaging is visible in the other panel that has a good shot of that hand, possibly because Horikoshi was more focused on drawing RDâs empty pant leg. The anime kept the obvious wound during the crater scene, but not the bandages during the speech.
[7] I assume, anyway, that Re-Destro only survives Shigarakiâs first touch because itâs a weaker Decay, coming as it does from only from two fingers rather than five.
[8] The fabled Marie Antoinette Syndrome. Never been scientifically documented as such (hair can whiten because of extreme stress, but not overnight) but it endures in fiction because itâs pleasingly dramatic. Trauma-based eye-color changes, not so much.

Theory on how human Vanitasâs ending will turn out or be a result of
Spoilers ahead ! (Theories are of my opinion and not fact)
I love MochiJunâs work and thereâs no telling how things will turn out when she writes a chapter. Therefore, I wanted to see what the fandom thinks about how Noe will âkillâ human Vanitas, as I personally donât think it will be as straightforward as how Noe makes it out to be.
Firstly, there was an interview MochiJun did before the release of the VnC anime. One question she was asked was whether she wrote VnC based on her current inspirations, vs. if she had the whole plot thought out already. She responded that when she writes, she has a goal/destination in the storyline in mind, but how she gets there along with other things, seems to be something she does on the go.
This led some others in the fandom to believe that the dreaded scene described in Memoire 1 could be happen anytime in the storyline rather than the end, however, I personally think this could happen close to the end because Noeâs mentioned in Memoire 1 that âhow at the END of that journey, I would kill him with my own two handsâ.
As an Archiviste, itâs fitting that Noe is recording down the memory/understanding of his journey with Vanitas (including of all we gained and lost) through his perspective and how the memories of others have effected him too. The final record of this journey is the manga we know as âThe Case Study of Vanitasâ. (MochiJun you genius magnificent b********) Therefore, human Vanitasâs death towards the end makes more sense.
Now onto why human Vanitas will die because of Noe is one of the following theories:
1) Salvation for human Vanitas may be death, and he asks Noe to kill him.
I thought of this theory (though I donât think this is very likely) because there have been hints on what salvation means to different characters. In the scene after Vanitas grants death to Catherine (little girl turned curse bearer), Noe freaks out because Vanitas couldnât save her. Noe learns that his understanding of salvation isnât possible or the same for others, but has a difficult time coping with it.
Salvation is brought up by Noe again after Laurent helps him and human Vanitas escape the Catacombs. As Vanitas is resting behind him, he wonders if the one whoâs always saving others (Vampires) without fail, is the one who wishes to be saved the most, which is human Vanitas himself. (Something along those lines)
And after Chloe is saved from being a curse bearer, Vanitas has an inner monologue about using Blue Moon Lunaâs power:â the more you call on its power, the more you will be re-written yourselfâ
^We donât know what it means to be re-written in terms of VnC. Does it mean death in general? That human Vanitas and Mikhail will be ârebornâ as vampires? Cease to exist or remember as you were or something worst than death? What kind of salvation does human Vanitas need to âremainâ human until the very end? What can Noe do to grant that to human Vanitas is something I suspect to be the cause of the scene where human Vanitas ponders about being re-written.
Also, there is a chance that Noe doesnât owe human Vanitas in this sort of scenario, but I highly suspect he will as his guilt for not granting Louis his last wish has been glooming over him in this series. (Vanitas and Louis do share some uncanny resemblance too.)
2) Vanitas âdiesâ in the border between the Human World and Altus
Since Vampires are the result of the Babel incident, only Vampires can cross the border into Altus. Should a human enter without physical contact of a Vampire, they risk getting lost forever between both dimensions, or that no one will know what happens to him.
We are told by Noe as he scolds human Vanitas for the risk he took, but Vanitas says thereâs nothing to worry about because Noe grabbed his hand. The story continues into the Bal Masque Arc from there without much thought.
But this is significant because there are additional two instances in the story which relate to this. One is Noeâs recollection on the day he failed to grab human Vanitasâs hand. The second is back to the first Memoire when Noeâs talking about killing human Vanitas, there is a voice over of human Vanitas saying âDonât worry Noe, even if Iâm not here, I wonât âdieââ. This is pretty vague, but we arenât told exactly if getting lost between borders means actual death for a human, or whatever human Vanitas will become due to the likelihood of being ârewrittenâ when using the Blue Moonâs power. We also need to remember that Noe, being a moralistic character with defined values, may be a bit bias when he describes intangible things like love, salvation, loss and death to the audience. (Kind of like how the OP theme song Sora to Usturo lyrics reflects the themes of human emotion, but itâs not clear if itâs in Noeâs perspective or Vanitasâ)
If we stick to the theory that human Vanitas dies towards the end in relation to getting lost in the border, I suspect this may have to do with something related to Altus or the story is located in Altus around this time. Will Vampires be returned their humanity? Will there be some form of the Babel incident being re-written again? How will that effect human Vanitas, who is an artificial kin of the Blue Moon?
3) Ruthvenâs curse on Noe plays a role in Vanitasâ death
I donât think this will be a direct cause, because Ruthvenâs initial intention is to use the curse to make Noe a pawn against his Teacher. Vanitas is a human who is cunning and vague motives in his eyes, but he is young and has extremely limited resources to do anything on his own. Compared to Noeâs teacher, who is probably one of the oldest vampires, heâs seen everything and probably knows and has the power to do anything against anyone, but he chooses not to, but instead, puts a huge curious responsibility on the last surviving member of a clan thatâs died out to that job (Noe). That position of choice seems to unnerve other vampires like Ruthven. He has gotten some news of Vanitasâ inconsistent character from Noe, but I think at most Ruthven sees the both of them like minor nuisances, and his target is Noeâs Teacher. If Vanitas dies because of Noeâs curse, itâs likely to be indirect cause.
By this time or around Retrace 59 in Pandora Hearts, we were revealed many details and it was a huge turning point of the storyline. Thereâs still too much we donât know about either protagonist's past, their future goals or those of the Vampire Senate. And the relationships between all the characters will be a key focus of the storyline too.Â
Is there more to human Vanitasâs backstory? What about âthat nightâ human Vanitas killed Luna? What is Ruthvenâs goal? Whatâs the relation between Faustina and Luna Blue Moon? Whoâs No. 70? Why is Noe the last survivor? Whatâs Jeanneâs curse? What do we need to know more about astermite? All of these questions, Iâm very very interested in learning more in the near future.
I hope that VnC will be longer than PH, as I enjoy reading things from an earnest perspective of a character like Noe.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Light shuffling wakes me from a blissful dream. My eyes adjust to the light shining through the window blinds. I rub the sleepiness away and make eye contact with the bare back of Ezekiel Reyes. Shamelessly, I take in every inch and mark of his body, happy that he's mine.
Ez turns around feeling eyes on him. "Like what you see cariña" (darling) the corner of his mouth curves up into a devilish smirk.
I'm sure I'm drooling at this point. Recapturing my composure, I throw a pillow at the back of his head. "It surprises me that your ego is bigger than your head" I retort.
He turns away from the dresser facing me âyou didnât mind my head size when it was between your legs,â a shit eating smile filling his face.
âEzekiel Reyes!â I scold giggling. Warmth floods my cheeks as I hide underneath the covers. Large hands make theyâre way up my legs, kisses trailing close behind them. My breath hitches as his lips make contact to my inner thigh. His teeth nip at certain spots making sure to leave many love bites. My fingers scratch the back of his head leading him further up to where my body most craved. He licks my slit, his focus now on teasing my clit.
A soft moan escapes my lips as my hips involuntarily buck up closer to him. Ez smirks kissing up to my sternum. He looks up to me with mischievous eyes. I pout from the loss of contact, âyou just want to get me worked up.â
His hand molds my breast while playing with my nipple, âYou look so sexy when youâre frustrated.â His hot tongue connects to my erect nipple sucking and tugging lightly, the other hand not stopping its menstrations. He bites the side of my breast causing loud moans to escape.
My hips grind against his abdomen looking for friction and much needed relief. âFuck.. Ezekielâ my nails scratch along his shoulders driving him further on. âPlease mi corazonâ (my heart) I moaned, needing more of him. His hand leaves my breast, sliding down to where I ache the most. Two digits pump in me while his thumb gives attention to my clit. I ride along Ezâs hand getting closer and closer to my climax. His fingers feel like magic, hitting every sensitive part. Iâm arching from the immense pressure of pleasure thatâs fighting to be released. Just as Iâm reaching the edge a ringing freezes Ezâs actions. Ezekiel looks to me, then to his phone across the room on the dresser, then back to me. âDonât you even think about it,â The need for release takes over my emotional state.
Ez kisses my forehead, âLo siento mi amor.â (I'm sorry my love) He climbs off of the bed making his way to the dresser and answers his phone. He turns away from me talking low to the person on the receiving end. I don't know if itâs my sexual frustrations or the fact that heâs acting sneaky but something was definitely up. Ezâs hush conversation ends as he rushes to get his clothes on. I sit up worried, âIs something wrong with the club? Is Angel alright? Bishop?â Here I am frustrated since we didnât finish, yet my Mayan family could need help. Even worse they could be hurt. God Iâm so selfish.
âNo hermosa, everyone is fine. The club needs me for a run. I canât say no to them,â He eases my mind. âRest baby, Iâll be back before you know it.â He kisses my head rubbing the crease on my forehead.
âBe careful, I know it's just a run but things can go bad so quick, so please be careful.â I hug him snuggling my head to his chest hearing his beautiful heart beat.
He rubs my back holding me close, âSee you in a few, sleep mi corazonâ He takes my face in his large hands planting a soft kiss to my lips. After a brief moment he lets go and grabs his kutte from the corner chair. I hear the door close seconds later and sigh sadly. He just left and Iâm missing him like crazy. Iâm so whipped. Maybe I should show him how bad Iâm missing him.
Grabbing my vibrator from the nightstand drawer, and setting my phone on the stand to catch all my naughty actions. I flip the switch to High on my vibrator moving it along my wet slit. The vibration re-excites my sensitive clit, as I rub it through my folds, lubing it up. My other hand finds my breast playing and tugging my nipple. âEzekiel I want you so bad babyâ I moan imagining his hands, his tongue, his huge thick cock. âI want you fucking every bit of me to pieces.â I rub against the vibrator gathering friction on the bundle of nerves. Feeling tired of waiting for release I thrust the vibrator into me. Not stopping to get used to the size, I thrust it fast in and out of me hitting my g-spot repeatedly. Taking my hand away from my breast I moved it down to my clit rubbing the sensitive bud to push me over the edge. âFuck! Right there Ezekiel!â I moan arching my back. A split second later the burst of release and pleasure fills my body. I take the vibrator out seeing my cum drip along the sleek tool to the tip as I rub my orgasm out. âWouldâve been better if you were actually here,â I look at the camera. âI miss you, baby. Come home soon. I love you,â I blow a kiss toward the camera and end the recording.
After a long hot shower, I lather myself in lotion and get dressed. Checking how the naughty video looks, I send it to Ez satisfied with the results. A ding sounds from across the room. Investigating where the sound came from leads to Ezâs forgotten phone. For someone with great memory he forgets a lot of stuff. Iâll call Angel to let Ez know.
âHey princess, you finally wise up and realize Iâm the hottest Reyes?â Angel answers.
I roll my eyes laughing, âSadly youâre mistaken Angel, Philippe will always be number one.â
âIâm gonna tell Ez you said that.â
âWhat makes you think Ez doesnât know,â I smirk.
âGrossâ he groans is distaste.
âLike your face. Anywho, how did the run go?â
âWhat run? Everyone is given the day off until the party tonightâ
Confusion wracks my brain, ânone of you went on a run this morning?â
âNot that I know of. Whatâs wrong?â He asks worriedly.
âUh nothing, I just thought Ezekiel was with you and the guys. My mistake, sorry to bother you Angel.â
âYouâre no bother princess, let me know if you need anything.â
âOkay thanks Angel, bye.â My heart sinks. Ez lied to me. He actually lied and broke his promise. Why would he do that. It has to be important if he needed to lie to me. Yea thatâs it.
I look towards his phone thinking back to who he was talking to earlier. If it wasnât the club then who? Going against my conscience I look through his messages to see Emily pop up on his recent. The messages showing meet up places on days Ez left early to do club business or met up with his dad. My heart is breaking into pieces. Shattering even more with the lies and betrayal. He knew how I felt about starting this relationship, about the trust issues, and trauma. He knew every part of me yet decided to destroy all that was built between us. Liquid drips onto my arms, I wipe my eyes not realizing the tears pouring. I donât want to cry. I shouldnât cry. Not over someone who didnât truly love me. Yet I cry for the love that I gave him. I cry for being dumb enough to fall so hard for him, for giving my all to him.
~Months prior~
Slowly slipping out of strong arms I reach for my shirt and panties laying across the floor. Trying to be stealthy, I look for my missing shorts. How can someone lose shorts in a trailer?! Thereâs literally no way itâs too small, but of course my luck. I yelp as I feel myself being pulled back into a warm chest. Ez chuckles beside me, happy to catch me by surprise. âBuenos dias hermosaâ (good morning beautiful) He kisses my temple leading more down the curve of my neck.
I hit his firm chest, âYou scared me half to death, jerk!â Trying to hold back my smile, but Ezekiel being Ezekiel can see right through it.
His hand frames the side of my face as his thumb lightly trails across my bottom lip. âYou werenât trying to leave without saying goodbye were you?â His brown eyes bore into mine taking in every feature.
Not able to lie to him, âYes, but only to get to the office before Chucky,â I explain while trying to climb off the bed again only to be pulled back to straddling Ezâs waist. âThis is what got us in this situation in the first place, Reyes,â pointing to our current position.
His big hands slowly crawl their way up my bare thighs causing shivers to run up my spine. âYouâre too irresistible, and you didnât seem to mind it. I do remember you begging for more.â
Curse his memory. I hit his chest, âNot my fault you kept following me around, I felt bad. You were like a lost puppy.â I smile thinking back to the first day we met. âSpeaking of memory, where are my shorts?â
A mischievous smirk slips across his lips, ânow what do I get if I tell you?â His hand now on my ass, pushing me slightly on his erection.
I jokingly ponder his question, grinding my hips slowly to tease, while tapping my chin in a thinking motion. âHmm.. Not getting caught by Bishop, nor beaten to death. Oh and possibly get buried in the desert.â His smirk falls off his face. âBut knowing Bishop heâll probably castrate you first,â I grin thinking how protective the Mayan President can be.
He groans, pulling my shorts from behind his pillow. âTake them.â
âYou were hiding them!â I laugh pinching his side teasing.
âI didnât want you leaving,â he taps his finger along my thigh nervously.
âAs sweet as that sounds, I don't want your death on my hands if Bishop catches us,â I joke.
âI want Bishop to know,â he states confidently. He sits up having us chest to chest as he watches my features. âI want us to date, be a couple in front of the club, in public. I don't want to hide it,â his hand caresses my face.
âEzekiel,â I stop his hand. âI canât do that. I canât put sheer dumb trust in another person, not with my emotions and body.â Heat fills my chest from the traumatic memories. âI will not put myself in a position to be beaten down and taken advantage of.â Slipping out of his hold, I put my shorts and flats on trying to make a quick exit.
His hand gently wraps around my arm catching my attention. âI don't want you for your beauty and body, youâre so much more than that. Youâre so strong and very smart, your humor and wit make you, you.â His arms wrap around my waist pulling me a bit closer to him. âI will never hurt you. Iâm not that low life thug. I will never lie to you or make you feel uncomfortable. I respect you so much. Just give me a little trust, I promise you won't regret it,â he begs, his eyes full of love?
A knock on the trailer door interrupts the moment. âItâs Chucky, I brought by coffees for a morning wake up,â he explains happily.
I walk over to the door, opening it coming face to face with Chucky. âThanks Chucky,â I take the two cups. âDo you mind letting Bishop know that I need to talk with him? Heâs gonna wanna know Iâm dating his prospect,â I look over to Ez smiling.
âOf course young love is beautiful, I hope to witness it myself one of these days.â Chucky sighs dreamily.
I peck his cheek, âYou will Chucky. Sheâll be one lucky woman,â I assure him.
Muscled arms snake around my stomach as Ezâs chest warms my back. âChucky, y/n is gonna be late to clock in. I won't keep her for too long,â he kisses my temple.
âI love you Chucky, thank you!!â I squeal as Ez shuts the door and picks me up kissing me all over the face.
~End of Flashback~
My phone ringing brings me out of my haze. I answer it hearing the one man I didnât want to contact. âHey Iâm calling from a pay phone, I think I left mine on your dresser. Any way Iâll be by to pick you up for the party tonight in a few minutes.â
I hold back from crying anymore, not wanting to show how hurt I am. âDon't worry about me, Iâll drive over by myself,â trying to keep my voice steady.
âAre you sure the house is on the way.â
On the way from where? Is what kills me. âIâm sure. Iâll see you there, bye.â I hung up before he could get another word in, not able to handle a longer conversation. Grabbing a duffle bag from the closet I pack every belonging of his. Erasing any sign of him from my home. As I fold the last of his shirts, his scent takes me in its embrace. Iâm really going to miss him. Holding his shirt to my chest I hug it letting the last of my tears drip away.
After pulling myself together, I toss his stuff in my Jeep and head over to the club house. Chucky opens the gate and greets me. âLovely night to let loose, huh y/n?â
I canât help but always feel comfort from Chucky, heâs a true sweetheart. âIndeed Chucky. Make sure you get to enjoy the party a bit too.â I pat his arm before driving into the lot.
Hopping out, I head into the clubhouse to see Bishop playing a card game with Hank and Reaper. I greet the men hugging them one by one, leaving the last to be Bishop. âCan I talk to you in the temple?â
He nods a look of worry flashes across his face, âOf course mija. Weâll be back.â He tells Hank. We walk back to the temple, him taking a seat as I stand. âWhatâs wrong y/n? Did something happen?â He scopes out my face for any bruise or marks.
âYes but it's not for you to worry about, Bish. Just letting you know Iâll be in Charming for the next couple of days.â
âWhy are you leaving? Did the prospect do something to you?!â He starts to stand up to head toward the door.
I stop him shaking my head, âThere is a job opening at the hospital there that Iâve been invited to try out. I think itâs a great opportunity for me since Iâm back on my feet.â I explain leaving Ezekiel out of the situation.
âBut thatâs not the only reason. You look like youâve been crying. What did the prospect do.â He demands an answer.
âNothing that deals with the club. He didnât touch me nor hurt me in any physical way. I canât deal with being in a relationship, they donât work well with me.â Thereâs no point in getting Ez into trouble with the club.
He gets up and embraces me, âIf thatâs what you want then I canât stop you. Just make sure youâre doing it for you and not just running away.â He kisses the top of my head.
âIâll call you when I get to Charming,â I pat his chest. âPlease keep this between us, for now?â He nods his head in agreement. âThank you for everything, El Presidenteâ I smile leaving him to head back to the Jeep. As I exit the club I come face to face with Ezekiel.
He smiles seeing that itâs me, âThere you are hermosa,â he leans down to peck my lips. I step back avoiding the gesture. Confusion washes over him as I step around him to get to my car. He follows close behind, âHey, wait up!â He grabs my arm only for me to yank away from him. âWhatâs wrong mi amor?â (my love)
âHow was your run?â I steal my voice, staring at his brown orbs.
Worry taking over his emotions, âIt was fine, everything went well. Iâm okay.â
I scoff shaking my head at his lies. âHere,â pulling his phone out of my pocket and shoves it into his chest. âEmily has been messaging all day.â
Realization flashes through him, âwait baby no itâs not like that!â He tries to grab my hands.
âDonât touch me. You lost the privilege the moment you decided to lie and sneak around. I don't want any part of your charades.â Tiredness heavy in my voice.
âLet me explain, please,â he pleads. âI didnât cheat. I only helped her with a business issue,â he explains hurriedly.
âI don't need your explanation nor do I want it, Ezekiel. Itâs not fair for you to live in your past, while you tell me to move on from my own. Itâs hypocritical of you to think she loves you. Emily is a married woman, she loves Galindo, sheâs moved on.â I sigh grabbing his duffle bag of belongings from my car dropping them at his feet. âAt least I know Iâm not the only stupid one in this relationship.â
âI don't love Emily, I love you, you are my everything. You make everyday worth it. I canât lose you.â
âThe problem, Ezekiel, is I donât believe you. Your words are just that. Words. No meaning behind them. Iâm not gonna give my time and trust to a man who doesnât respect me. Iâm done. Itâs over. Don't contact me, don't go to my house.â I rush into the Jeep starting it and backing up out of the lot. The only thought is to drive away and don't look back. If I look, then I know Iâll turn and go back into his arms.
A/N: please feedback and let me know if there should be a part 2
Losing a loved one is one of the major trials of life many of us will encounter. Grief from that loss is a natural reaction that takes a different trajectory for different people. Some people describe grief as a dark fog that is difficult to shake, others speak of the suffocating regret and anxiety that often accompany those feelings, still others speak about grief as waves that rise up and subside at different points.
âAnd We will surely test you with something of fear and hunger and a loss of wealth and lives and fruits, but give good tidings to the patient, Who, when disaster strikes them, say, âIndeed we belong to Allah , and indeed to Him we will return.â Those are the ones upon whom are blessings from their Lord and mercy. And it is those who are the guided.â [Quran; 2:155-157]
Sometimes people are expect to follow a particular timeline of grief, but the reality is that the journey of grief is different for everyone. Counsellors and bereavement supporters often speak about the five stages of grief that were popularized in the famous book On Death and Dying by psychiatrist Elizabeth Kubler-Ross namely: denial (as you begin to come to terms with the reality of the situation, denial begins to fade and difficult feelings may begin to surface), anger/anxiety (anger is the bodyâs natural reaction to threat and, oftentimes, there is no greater threat than the loss of someone you love or the loss of the way you envisioned life would be. Anger can also feel powerful during times when we feel powerless. You may experience nervousness, heart palpitations, restlessness, irritability, and/or difficulty breathing), bargaining (this stage often includes âIf onlyâŠâ statements due to the feelings of regret that come up with loss. This stage is characterized by an overwhelming desire for life to return to the way it was), depression (you might feel down and cry more often than you usually do. It may also feel like you have less motivation and find less enjoyment in activities you used to love. This stage can feel as though itâll stretch on forever) and acceptance (it involves accepting the reality that this person is physically gone and that this new reality is the permanent reality. Acceptance does not mean that youâre âokâ with what happened. The loss of someone you love will likely never feel ok. The goal in this stage is to learn how to live with this loss and create a new normal despite the huge piece that is missing). However, recent research and understanding has concluded that grief can be an individualized and unpredictable experience and no two peopleâs experiences will be the same.
Let us look at some advice in the Quran and Sunnah to help us cope with grief and the loss of a loved one:
Shed tears as much as you want, but donât let the tongue say what may displease Allah
Our Prophet Muhammad (ï·ș) experienced grief at many points of his life, often at the loss of loved ones. During these experiences he taught us that grief is a natural emotion and that Allah does not hold us accountable for expressing sadness and pain in a permissible manner. Sadness does not negate the acceptance of Allahâs decree which is the very center of a believerâs journey in grief.
Narrated Anas bin Malik: We went with Allahâs Messenger (ï·ș) (p.b.u.h) to the blacksmith Abu Saif, and he was the husband of the wet-nurse of Ibrahim (the son of the Prophet). Allahâs Messenger (ï·ș) took Ibrahim and kissed him and smelled him and later we entered Abu Saifâs house and at that time Ibrahim was in his last breaths, and the eyes of Allahâs Messenger (ï·ș) (p.b.u.h) started shedding tears. `Abdur Rahman bin `Auf said, âO Allahâs Apostle, even you are weeping!â He said, âO Ibn `Auf, this is mercy.â Then he wept more and said, âThe eyes are shedding tears and the heart is grieved, and we will not say except what pleases our Lord, O Ibrahim ! Indeed we are grieved by your separation.â [Hadith; Sahih al-Bukhari 1303]
We see the intensity of these emotions in the Prophet YaÊżqub ŰčÙÙÙ Ű§ÙŰłÙۧÙ
 when he was separated from his son Yusuf ŰčÙÙÙ Ű§ÙŰłÙۧÙ
and he grieved so deeply that his eyes turned white (itâs said that he lost his sight) due to the extent to which he cried. His intense grief is expressed in the Qurâan (after all those years of losing his son) yet he was called to have beautiful patience (sabrun jameel):
And he turned away from them and said, âOh, my sorrow over Joseph,â and his eyes became white from grief, for he was a suppressor. [Quran; 12:84]
Accept that all of us belong to Allah and all of us will return to Him
As we see from the hadith above where the Prophet Muhammad (ï·ș) was coping with grief, patience in Islam does not mean that we do not cry and that we do not express our emotions. What is forbidden is wailing and slapping oneâs cheeks which was the culture at that time (the Arabs â women in particular â used to scream and wail during funerals or at someoneâs death). As the Prophet Muhammad (ï·ș) said the eyes shed tears and the heart is grieved but the tongue only says what is acceptable to Allah.
Allahâs Messenger (ï·ș) said, âThe example of a believer is that of a fresh tender plant; from whatever direction the wind comes, it bends it, but when the wind becomes quiet, it becomes straight again. Similarly, a believer is afflicted with calamities (but he remains patient till Allah removes his difficulties.) And an impious wicked person is like a pine tree which keeps hard and straight till Allah cuts (breaks) it down when He wishes.â [Hadith; Sahih al-Bukhari 5644]
Make dua for yourself
As human beings, we attempt to cope with negative emotions in different ways. We often attempt to push away difficult emotions because they make us feel uncomfortable as itâs a painful process to sit with these feelings. We may try to distract ourselves or put on a fake smile. Some may even self-medicate through the use of drugs or alcohol to alleviate the pain they are feeling. When we are unable to grieve fully and an experience becomes a source of trauma, we are thrust into survival mode, which shuts down the executive functioning part of our brain and prevents us from thinking clearly. This is why we may react to situations in unhealthy ways or do things during times of stress that we would not have done during times of ease. This is one reason why some people struggle to worship Allah during times of extreme stress. When the âdanger activation centerâ part of our brain is dominant, there is a decrease in self-awareness, our capacity to self-evaluate, and our ability to establish goals. All of these require advanced thought processes, which are very difficult to sustain during times of extreme stress. In order for any activity to help, our brain needs to register it. Research has shown an association between prayer and the ability to re-engage the âthinkingâ part of our brains.
Umm Salama, the wife of the Messenger of Allah (ï·ș), reported Allahâs Messenger (ï·ș) as saying:If any servant (of Allah) who suffers a calamity says:â We belong to Allah and to Him shall we return; O Allah, reward me for my affliction and give me something better than it in exchange for it,â â Allah will give him reward for affliction, and would give him something better than it in exchange. She (Umm Salama) said: When Abu Salama died. I uttered (these very words) as I was commanded (to do) by the Messenger of Allah (ï·ș). So Allah gave me better in exchange than him. i. e. (I was taken as the wife of) the Messenger of Allah (ï·ș). [Hadith; Sahih Muslim 918 b]
When I lost my baby son Hamza, I remember one of my close friends messaged me this dua and reminded me to keep reciting it. I had not really known that dua at that time but I am so grateful for friends who guided me to the right words to say at such a confusing and overwhelming time when I almost lost my faith as a revert.
Stay among people who love you and would support you through this difficult journey
It is quite common to be engulfed by grief with the death of a loved one. However, one must not dwell in it much heaven knows i did but i soon realised this sends an invitation to Shaytan to become your company. Let the death of a loved be a lesson of detaching from Dunya and to hold Allah (glorified and exalted be he) in your heart above all others.
The Messenger of Allah (ï·ș) visited Saâd bin âUbadah during his illness. He was accompanied by âAbdur-Rahman bin âAuf, Saâd bin Abu Waqqas and âAbdullah bin Masâud (May Allah be pleased with them). The Messenger of Allah (ï·ș) began to weep. When his Companions saw this, their tears also started flowing. He (ï·ș) said, âDo you not hear, Allah does not punish for the shedding of tears or the grief of the heart, but punishes or bestows mercy for the utterances of this (and he pointed to his tongue).â [Hadith; Riyad as-Salihin 925]
Remember that your patience is being rewarded more than you can imagine
These are words you should say even when you feel sad at the memory of a loss you faced in the past or when you miss your loved one or the life you had planned with them.
Allahâs Messenger (ï·ș) said, âAllah says, âI have nothing to give but Paradise as a reward to my believer slave, who, if I cause his dear friend (or relative) to die, remains patient (and hopes for Allahâs Reward). [Hadith; Sahih al-Bukhari 6424]
Stay away from questioning Qadr of Allah (asking: why me? or if only!)
Messenger of Allah (ï·ș) said: âA slave (of Allah) shall not believe until he believes in Al-Qadar, its good and its bad, such that he knows that what struck him would not have missed him, and that what missed him would not have struck him.â [Hadith; Tirmidhi 2144]
Often one of the ways, Shaitan attacks us at times of calamity or a loss is to overwhelm us with questions of what if and why me? How did this happen? Would it have been prevented if I had just done this or that or gone to the hospital earlier or taken this or that medical intervention?? I blamed myself for my sons death so much over the last year (he passed away 25/07/2020) but after reading the following in last few weeks I've become to realise there was nothing I could do to prevent it as it was Allah's will.
âThe Messenger of Allah (ï·ș) said: âThe strong believer is better and more beloved to Allah than the weak believer, although both are good. Strive for that which will benefit you, seek the help of Allah, and do not feel helpless. If anything befalls you, do not say, âif only I had done such and suchâ rather say âQaddara Allahu wa ma shaâa faâala (Allah has decreed and whatever he wills, He does).â For (saying) âIfâ opens (the door) to the deeds of Satan.'â [Hadith; Ibn Majah 79]
These are some of the words my midwife told me to say when I heard the news of my baby passing away in my womb after 25weeks of pregnancy I am forever grateful to her for reminding me this at that trying time. Reminding ourselves we all have a path and a time to meet Allah and it is not the time be battling with the what if questions you are bombarded yourself with. I am grateful to Allah (swt) for giving me people in my life who were able to remind me of the right words to say and the right approach at such a difficult time. Remind yourself: whatever happened was decreed by Allah and nothing you or someone else did or did not do could have changed it. Focusing on the factors within your control, rather than on regrets and a desire to return to the less painful past, can help you to get through this stage.
But perhaps you hate a thing and it is good for you; and perhaps you love a thing and it is bad for you. And Allah Knows, while you know not. [Quran; 2:216]
Turning back to our deen and our belief in Qadr is what helped us accept the death as something Allah had decreed at this exact time and this exact situation and there is nothing we could have done to have changed that. Changing the past is not feasible so channeling our energy into something unchangeable is a recipe for intense pain. Instead of âWhat ifâŠâ Focus on âWhat isâŠâ: The one thing we consistently have within our control is what we choose to do with the present moment. Shifting our focus away from regrets of the past and worries about the future allows us to take advantage of the present moment. Allah (swt) talks about this attitude of remorse in the Quran:
O you who have believed, do not be like those who disbelieved and said about their brothers when they traveled through the land or went out to fight, âIf they had been with us, they would not have died or have been killed,â so Allah makes that a regret within their hearts. And it is Allah who gives life and causes death, and Allah is Seeing of what you do. [Quran; 3:156]
Instead, turn to Allah and open your heart to Him
Death can serve as a reminder to those left behind about the temporariness of this life and the importance of working for our next lives. It forces us to reflect on what is meaningful and what is important. Turn to Allah and pour your heart out to Him, talk to Him about your pain, cry out to Him and ask Him to calm your heart and heal your pain. Ask Him to reunite you with your loved one in Jannah. Ask Him to give you strength and peace. When Prophet Yaqub (ŰčÙÙÙÙÙÙÙ Ű§ÙŰłÙÙÙÙۧÙ
) cried so much that he lost his eyesight after all those years of losing his son, his elder sons said:
They said, âBy Allah , you will not cease remembering Joseph until you become fatally ill or become of those who perish.â He said, âI only complain of my suffering and my grief to Allah , and I know from Allah that which you do not know. O my sons, go and find out about Joseph and his brother and despair not of relief from Allah . Indeed, no one despairs of relief from Allah except the disbelieving people.â [Quran: 12:85-87]
Turn to Allah in sincere dua. No one else can heal your pain and give peace to your heart.
Allahâs Messenger (ï·ș) said: âVerily, the hearts of all the sons of Adam are between the two fingers out of the fingers of the Compassionate Lord as one heart. He turns that to any (direction) He likes. Then Allahs Messenger (ï·ș) said: 0 Allah, the Turner of the hearts, turn our hearts to Thine obedience.â [Hadith; Sahih Muslim 265]
Journal to face and deal with your emotions so you donât become hopeless
Writing to process your feelings is another helpful technique to help deal with your emotions and your grief ive found this out this week from advice from a sister who lost her father recently. She said that Writing out your thoughts and confusions will help sort them out, journals about your feelings from day to day, use gratitude journalings to focus on the blessings even at such difficult times, write letters to your loved one as if you are talking to them. All of this helps deal with the emotions and grief just as talking or counselling does as well.
âAnd that to your Lord is the finality. And that it is He who makes laugh and weep.â [Quran; 53:42-43]
Find meaning / gratitude in your life again and create the required changes
Grief expert, David Kessler says, âmeaning comes through finding a way to sustain your love for the person after their death while youâre moving forward with your life. Loss is simply what happens to you in life. Meaning is what you make happen.â
It was narrated that Ibn âAbbas said: âWhen a young daughter of the Messenger of Allah was dying, the Messenger of Allah picked her up and held her to his chest, then he put his hand on her, and she died in front of the Messenger of Allah. Umm Ayman wept and the Messenger of Allah said âOh Umm Ayman, do you weep while the Messenger of Allah is with you?â She said: âWhy shouldnât I weep when the Messenger of Allah is weeping.â So the Messenger of Allah ï·ș said âVerily, I am not weeping. Rather it is compassion.â Then the Messenger of Allah ï·ș said: âThe believer is fine whatever the situation; even when his soul is being pulled from his body and he praises Allah, the Mighty and Sublimeââ [Hadith; Sunan an-Nasaâi 1843]
Finding meaning cannot erase your grief; pain is a natural reaction to intense loss. However, it can help you move forward. The loss of someone or something dear to you can often lead to reevaluating your priorities in life. Allowing this loss to push you toward positive changes in your life is one of the most profound ways of creating meaning. Gratitude is one of the qualities of a believer. Gratitude is tied closely to the concept of patience. The Prophet Muhammad (ï·ș) said:
Allahâs Messenger (ï·ș) said: Strange are the ways of a believer for there is good in every affair of his and this is not the case with anyone else except in the case of a believer for if he has an occasion to feel delight, he thanks (God), thus there is a good for him in it, and if he gets into trouble and shows resignation (and endures it patiently), there is a good for him in it. [Hadith; Sahih Muslim 2999]
Gratitude is also an attitude during adversity. Although difficult to see, there are always blessings that accompany a difficult time. Look for the blessings and ease that Allah has brought with this difficulty. May be things were easier than they could have been, may be there were eases in other areas of your life, may be this test drew you closer to Allah (swt), may be it allowed you to reflect on the reality of your life and allowed you to give more in charity, may be it became a means of wiping away your sins and earning you reward.
The Messenger of Allah (ï·ș) said, âWhen a manâs child dies, Allah, the Exalted, asks His angels, âHave you taken out the life of the child of My slave?â and they reply in the affirmative. He (SWT) then asks, âHave you taken the fruit of his heart?â and they reply in the affirmative. Thereupon He asks, âWhat did my slave say?â They say: âHe praised You and said: Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi rajiâun (We belong to Allah and to Him we shall return).â Allah says: âBuild a house for my slave in Jannah and name it Baitul-Hamd (the House of Praise).ââ [Hadith; Riyad as-Salihin 922]
Know that sadness doesnât last forever even if the memories do
âFor indeed, with hardship ease. Indeed, with hardship ease.â [Quran; 94:6]
Remember this promise of Allah. Remember that every moment of sadness and pain, no matter how overwhelming, is a part of the process of healing. Instead of focusing on the stretch of days ahead of you with this loss feeling like a looming storm cloud over your future, focus on the one step you can take today to get through the day. When experiencing feelings of depression, putting one foot in front of the other can make a huge difference. Get adequate sleep and eat healthy. Your body and well-being are an amÄnah from Allah that you need to take care of. Find time to decompress, however that might work for you. For some people this may include praying, making dua, reading, art, working out, or engaging in a hobby.
It was narrated that Ibn âUmar said: âI was with the Messenger of Allah (ï·ș) and a man from among the Ansar came to him and greeted the Prophet (ï·ș) with Salam. Then he said: âO Messenger of Allah, which of the believers is best?â He said: âHe who has the best manners among them.â He said: âWhich of them is wisest?â He said: âThe one who remembers death the most and is best in preparing for it. Those are the wisest.ââ [Hadith; Ibn Majah 160]
Go through happy memories you experienced with them and remember your loved one in good words
Narrated Abu Al-Aswad: I came to Medina when an epidemic had broken out. While I was sitting with `Umar bin Al-Khattab a funeral procession passed by and the people praised the deceased. `Umar said, âIt has been affirmed to him.â And another funeral procession passed by and the people praised the deceased. `Umar said, âIt has been affirmed to him.â A third (funeral procession) passed by and the people spoke badly of the deceased. He said, âIt has been affirmed to him.â I (Abu Al-Aswad) asked, âO chief of the believers! What has been affirmed?â He replied, âI said the same as the Prophet (ï·ș) had said, that is: if four persons testify the piety of a Muslim, Allah will grant him Paradise.â We asked, âIf three persons testify his piety?â He (the Prophet) replied, âEven three.â Then we asked, âIf two?â He replied, âEven two.â [Hadith; Sahih al-Bukhari 1368]
Remembering the happy times you had with your deceased loved ones can be a bittersweet experience. Many will talk about how this can have a healing effect, others mention how it rekindles the pain in their heart. Sometimes different reactions may also depend on where you are on your grief journey. Remembering the good times you had with your loved one can help you in dealing with the grief and with slowly learning to remember them without always feeling the pain of separation. Reminding yourself that you still have hope of reuniting with them in the hereafter is another way to help you process the pain you are feeling.
It was narrated that âAishah said: âSomething bad was said in the presence of the Prophet about a person who had died. He said: âDo not say anything but good about your dead.ââ [Hadith; Sunan an-Nasaâi 1935]
Make dua for your loved one and give charity on their behalf
Messenger of Allah(ï·ș) said: âA man will be raised in status in Paradise and will say: âWhere did this come from?â And it will be said: âFrom your sonâs praying for forgiveness for you.'â [Hadith; Sunan Ibn Majah 3660]
Channel your grief in a productive way and think about what you can do for your loved one now. One of the ways we can benefit our deceased loved ones is by making sincere dua for them. We can also benefit our deceased loved ones by giving charity on their behalf.
The Messenger of Allah (ï·ș) said, âWhen a man dies, his deeds come to an end except for three things: Sadaqah Jariyah (ceaseless charity); a knowledge which is beneficial, or a virtuous descendant who prays for him (for the deceased).â [Hadith; Riyad as-Salihin 1383]
Seek help and support others
Seek social support, go to counselling and therapy, talk to friends about how you feel. Attend a bereavement group if you can so you can see how others in your situation are coping. Check Children of Jannah or Eternal Gardens for bereavement support. One major indicator that someone needs professional help is if they demonstrate an impaired ability to function in their day-to-day life with their family, at work, socially, emotionally, and sometimes spiritually. Again, this doesnât mean that the person is mentally ill, but that they would likely benefit from talking to someone with expertise in the field of mental health.
Allahâs Messenger (ï·ș) said, âA Muslim is a brother of another Muslim, so he should not oppress him, nor should he hand him over to an oppressor. Whoever fulfilled the needs of his brother, Allah will fulfill his needs; whoever brought his (Muslim) brother out of a discomfort, Allah will bring him out of the discomforts of the Day of Resurrection, and whoever screened a Muslim, Allah will screen him on the Day of Resurrection.â [Hadith; Sahih al-Bukhari 2442]
The aim of taâziyah is to strengthen the broken-hearted and give them hope at a time when their hope may be waning; it is to lighten the load of the bereaved. After the intense sadness of losing someone you care for deeply, you have the unique ability to empathize with the struggles others face in similar circumstances. Here are some things you can do for grieving families: Spend time with them without imposing yourself as a guest and expecting them to host you with food and drink. Offer to help by buying groceries, doing household chores, or watching their children.
The Messenger of Allah (ï·ș) said: Prepare food for the family of Jaâfar for there came upon them an incident which has engaged them. [Hadith; Sunan Abi Dawud 3132]
Do what helps you through your journey of grief. Remember no two journeys are the same, so listen to your heart and give it what it needs. Sometimes you may need time to be alone, sometimes you may need to be around others you love. Sometimes you may need to talk about them, sometimes you may just need to sit quietly with your own thoughts. May Allah heal your pain, calm your heart and reunite you with your loved one in the hereafter.
I hope this helps who ever needs it see this right now...
Rest in peace my beautiful son Hamza until we meet again in jannah đ€Čđ€Č
