Opinion piece & analysis
I really hate how Jinxā€™s suicidality is portrayed in S2, largely in Act lll but weā€™ll talk about all of it.
In S1 we have about three moments (by my count) that show Jinx harming herself or trying to end her life. Hitting herself in episode 3, being careless with the staples in episode 7 and pulling the pin on the bridge also in episode 7. There is also a line she says to Vi ā€œYouā€™re the reason Iā€™m still aliveā€ in episode 9 which given other things she says in that moment could be interpreted as other ideations.
What makes these moments different from S2 episode 9? Well none of the three main writers were credited to those episodes other than the dialogue in S1 episode 9. Most of them are communicated through animation only. They also just feel different, theyā€™re vulnerable, other things are the focus and her doing these things is just a reaction to those feelings. There was something to get from the scene besides a showcase of her pain.
Episode 9 of S2 is not that. Itā€™s gratuitous, itā€™s a spectacle, itā€™s gory and somehow losing all its impact. Thereā€™s the music which is not what Iā€™d call tasteful or subtle. Itā€™s making an impression, wants to force a feeling or reaction. Make you sad or horrified and oh, I was horrified but not the way they wanted.
Even the way she digs her nails into her cuticles in S2 episode 8 isnā€™t really meant to show us anything about her. Itā€™s meant to affect the audience.
In comparison I almost appreciate how people have read her pulling the pin in S1 episode 7 as trying to manipulate or take Ekko out too instead of being a completely clear cut attempt. Because it at least shows that there is enough going on with the characterā€™s mindset that we can speculate on her motivations and how sheā€™s reacting to all the emotions that came from fighting her old friend. If you look at her face itā€™s sadness and regret (S1 is also better at story through facial expressions since there was forethought). Youā€™re free to have your own reaction, not the one thatā€™s set out for you.
I have mixed feelings about her fight with Vi now and telling Vi that sheā€™s okay to go out by her hand. It feels closer to the moments in S1 than later in episode 9. Thereā€™s more going on, weā€™re meant to consider multiple layers of both her and Viā€™s feelings in the moment. Itā€™s a non explicit parallel to the Bridge and does show a pattern of behaviour. Itā€™s also not credited to any of the main writers.
The scene from the opening of episode 9 as a whole, is it romanticization? Heard differing opinions on this and I honestly donā€™t know where I stand. One one hand it shows how empty she feels and how everything has come crashing down despite trying and it communicates her emotions through the images and music. On the other the scene is meant to be visually appealing while also showing her detonating the bomb very explicitly, like you see her blood. Iā€™m sorry but this is some 13 reasons shit. None of this is helped by the fact that Isha was killed purposely to get her in this state.
I had way more emotions about the actual story in the scene with Ekko in S1 and the scene with Vi in episode 3. Originally I liked this scene but I just canā€™t really remember why exactly, especially when compared to the earlier ones. The other scenes arenā€™t lacking in any way when it comes to showing her despair so Iā€™m lead to believe itā€™s a stylistic choice in line with S2ā€™s music video focus.
Then thereā€™s Ekkoā€¦ what did he do to deserve this? Iā€™ve said before that if he had to he would save her but the reason he had to was because this scene sounded like a good idea. Saw someone say why is it his responsibility to save her and yeah why? Heā€™s her romantic interest? Not from her perspective at this point and thatā€™s a terrible reason anyway. Not only are we shown her blowing herself up in detail, being inflicted with it but he also has to see that, multiple times. Please donā€™t make me think too long about itā€¦ then we donā€™t see what actually changes her mind and actually see their bond. That also doesnā€™t give me a lot of faith is what they think is important to show.
Then she sacrifices herself at the end to ā€œbreak the cycleā€ which no one is actually clear on what is meant by that and the same damn song is playing. Itā€™s weird.
Iā€™d like to compare it to the Poison sequence from Hazbin Hotel since that scene faced backlash for ā€œromanticizingā€ abuse specifically in that scene. If I can describe what makes Poison not exploitative and what makes Wasteland so then I can safely say they are different and there is something deeply sinister about Jinxā€™s scene.
Poison benefits internally, inside the context of the story from being visually appealing and pretty. That tells part of the story in and of itself and eventually it cracks, mirroring how Angel feels in the scene and in his situation.
Wasteland benefits externally, itā€™s done for the audience as Iā€™ve been saying. There is nothing about Jinxā€™s mindset or actions that we get a better insight into from the stylistic choices. We know ā€œshe loves a spectacleā€ but thatā€™s the only internal explanation that I could make. Even if they wanted the cutting of her hair and the burning on the last drop but the framing could have easily been different.
Think about the staple scene for contrast, it has no interest in being something other than what it is, brutal and disorienting, just as she is feeling in that moment. Jinx would behave that way whether there were ā€œeyesā€ on her or not. Poison is the same, Angel ā€œperformsā€ to keep his thoughts at bay regardless of an audience. Wasteland only exists in its current form to entertain.
The final ā€œsacrificeā€ also falls into this, solely focusing on eliciting a reaction from the audience and making a spectacle of sadness. There is no resolution to Jinxā€™s earlier conversation with Ekko, we donā€™t see her reflect, we donā€™t see a change. We have no reason to believe sheā€™s in any way in a better place. Her decision to give her life for Viā€™s isnā€™t particularly fleshed out and this as a conclusion to her arc is bizarre at best and offensive at worst, suggesting she had to remove herself from her loved ones lives, something she simultaneously feared and was tempted by.
I probably shouldnā€™t feel the need to make such a caveat but I am aware that the could be a matter of preference when it comes to how scenes like this are portrayed but the way this scene was done continues to strike me as odd. I canā€™t help but think it maybe intentionally or unintentionally is playing into the ā€œsacrificeā€ message where, it may be a sad thing but Jinx had to die. And thatā€™s a horrible thing to say.

I hate the stretch lines in the front of Curly's uniform because that means the devs rushed to make a model in like a month or so and thought "They gotta at least know he has huge knockers, gotta know he's got back pain." Cause like what is the thematic importance of his tits having overhang?
What responsibility is that representing? Breast reduction? It shows an inherent greed in his character due to the excess and heshouldletmeholdone and that he clearly is blinded cause if he tries to look down his damn ladder all he's seeing is his own cleavage.

I want to talk about why I think this is the one of the most important Falin panels:

So, Falin is really nice, right? It's one of the first things we really learn about her. She's kind even to the monsters of the dungeon - choosing to ward the party rather than fight spirits and cause them needless harm.

In the above early flashback in chapter 11, we see Marcille fawning over Falin's kindness, calling her an angel. Namari calls her soft-hearted. We see Falin choose not to fight even when a zombie attacks - instead she resolves the confrontation with a hug. After the flashback, the first thing Senshi says is that Falin "sounds like quite the person," which Marcille strongly affirms.
At this point in the story, all we have seen of Falin are these impressions; she is a healer, an angel, a caretaker with an infinite well of kindness towards everyone she meets - both friend and foe.
And honestly, that remains most of what we have to go by to understand her. The only times we get to see Falin on the page, alive and just herself, are in the opening and closing pages of the story and in the brief period of time after she is resurrected.
Nonetheless, we do have some more details to work with. For one, there is the scene that The Panel is from - a short memory in chapter 75, when Marcille flashes back to while she's dying. In that scene, Falin prepares to teleport them all out, and says that she's sorry "if there is a person at [their] destination." And that's when we get The Panel.
If you teleport someone or something into another person, the person teleported into is likely to be, at minimum, severely injured. They could die.
We can see a lovely little horrifying example of exactly why in one of the Daydream Hour doodles:

So, hmm. That's not... that's not SUPER nice. Certainly not displaying the same "kindness to all, friend and foe included" we saw represented earlier. On a basic level, this adds some nuance to Falin's kindness. We see it break a little, when pushed to the limit. We see her chose to protect the people she loves above all else.
Which makes sense! As Laios says when the Winged Lion accuses him of similarly being motivated more by his friends' safety than everyone else in the dungeon, "...most people, aside from virtuous do-gooders, would feel the same way."
So, we can take The Panel as simply showing a moment of weakness for Falin. A time when she was pushed to her limits, and that "most people" selfish side of her shone through.
However... I think there's a little more going on with Falin than just her being an angel 99% of the time, except just that once. I love The Panel because I think it helps us understand that Falin isn't just motivated by kindness - she also has a desire to avoid seeing people in pain.
Isn't that the same thing?
No, no it very much is not.
Let's look at a short comic from the Falin section of the Adventurer's Bible, because I think it illustrates this point perfectly. The group is complaining about how much Marcille's healing hurts, and comparing it to Falin's, which "doesn't hurt a bit." Marcille retorts with the following:

Now, the punchline of this comic is that, despite Marcille's sentimental assertion that she's "thinking of [them]" by letting her healing magic hurt, they all still prefer to be healed by Falin.
But hey, this wouldn't be the first time that Dungeon Meshi hides a very real character beat or insight in a gag, so let's think about this somewhat seriously.
If Marcille is right (and she knows a fair bit about magic, so we can assume that she has at least somewhat of a point), then what Falin is doing isn't kind. I suppose if someone specifically requested to not feel the pain, it could be kind, but that's not really what happened here. She is the one who felt badly about the others being in pain, and she is the one who decided, without telling them or giving them a choice in the matter, to take away that pain.
Both Marcille and Falin are healing the party, but Marcille is doing it in a way that accomplishes the task in the most straight forward way, without any additional interference. Falin is going out of her way to perform the healing in a way she is more comfortable with. A way that avoids pain.
Going back the The Panel, I don't think its a coincidence that the only time we see Falin (well, non-chimera Falin) willing to do something that could hurt someone is when any potential pain will be far away from her. If she got someone hurt or killed by teleporting the party to the surface? Not only would it be far out of her sight, but she'd be dead before she had to deal with any consequences of that action.
Falin is not a confrontational person. She doesn't push when Marcille won't tell her the truth about the resurrection, and she comforts Laios about her own death - both of those things happening in the only full chapter she is alive and conscious in the whole story.
We also know that she considered accepting Shuro's proposal, despite not having any special feelings towards him, and that Falin never explained to Marcille that she wanted them to share a meal together. When she brought Marcille various foods at the academy, she just accepted Marcille's confused rejection and gave up.

And lastly, we know that she is still in contact with her parents, despite the neglect and abuse she suffered at their hands. Although the way someone chooses to handle contact with abusive or bad family is a complicated topic, which I don't want to overly simplify, I do I think this fact gets at the heart of how she handles conflict.
So many people that Falin loves have hurt her. There are understandable hurts, like Laios leaving the village, or Marcille not understanding the food. And there are bigger, far less justifiable hurts - like her parents neglecting her throughout her childhood, and sending her away to be alone at the magic academy.
It doesn't seem like Falin has ever confronted any of it directly.
And the unhealthy aspects of this kind of avoidance of pain and confrontation is one of the things that the story of Dungeon Meshi is all about. We see Laios grapple with it before he goes to kill Falin, and we see Marcille acknowledge it at the end of the story, when she tells Laios that she has come to terms with Falin's death:

Eating is a part of life. Consuming other living things is a part of life. It isn't really possible to avoid that pain - you can only hide from the truth of it. You have to be selfish everyday. You have to eat - to choose to live. To choose to take up space.
And this is something Falin embraces, too. She comes back to life, after all.
We see her choose to come back to life.
And how does she make that choice? She eats. She consumes, and then she is asked a question by the manifestation of hunger itself:

There is a double meaning in the Winged Lion's final words on the next page.

When I first read this, I took it as him saying: life is cruel. You will suffer. You will feel more pain.
But perhaps, especially for Falin, this also means: you are choosing a path where you must cause pain. Where you must consume. Where you must take, and must be selfish. Because eating is the special privilege of the living, and it is their burden, too. In order to stay alive, she will need to keep eating.
And she chooses that. Chooses to be selfish. It's why her resurrection scene is so important, and it's why The Panel is so important. Because Falin coming back isn't the ultimate reward for all of the party's hard work.
It's her choice. Just like it was her choice that started everything in the first place. But this time, she doesn't choose to accept causing pain for the sake of Marcille and Laios. She does it for her own sake.

I'm about to nerd-out about the Fan Letter project:
The one piece fan letter project is so genuinely beautiful. I'm not even talking about the jaw dropping animation and the comeback of the art style. The very idea of this - the perspective of civilians, non-power/haki users and just random people in a world that's already so wide is so cool. And the way we got to experience the main characters of the main series - their impact on the world and the collateral. I particularly loved how they were still there but in the way their faves were obscured, never fully shown (other than the last scene) you could tell they weren't the focus even if the whole episode was a tribute to them and their fans.
(This is what I mean by the faces thing)

This entire scene is just the girl and Usopp (I can talk about the symbolism in colors and shading/the parallels of the marine literally casting a shadow on her while one of the strawhats gives her a helping hand, but I digress) - the focus is still on her, regradless of the speaker and the camera is only following her movements and facial expressions. We only get a clear view of Usopp's face a second before the scene changes.
This too, Luffy is the only one on the screen but we don't get to see him, not fully(even in the closer shots), because it's not about him.

I also loved how funny they made the power scalers in the bar (and he way we saw Zoro and Sanji interact with them. As they are probably one of the usual ones to be compared by dude-bros, it was like an inside joke for the fandom and I love it to bits!)

There's so much to be implied/confirmed! For example, we get to see how many people love Brook because for some reason we keep forgetting he's a world-famous rockstar. He has his own merch, he started a trend with afros and those glasses he has on the poster, his fans picked up his puns,

It was also touching how Luffy touched lives without even trying (not that he usually does), as the marine brothers. Even though the older one claims he doesn't like his brother, he loves him enough to appreciate him being alive when he witnessed an entire war for someone else's. Even if he doesn't want to admit it, it's clear he cares about his brother deeply. It's just so amazing seeing it :''))

I am definetly in the minority here, but I was always so deeply touched by Mai's confession during that scene.

There's just something about Mai's confession that makes me feel so unbearably sad. I think the first thing that hits me is just how... empty she seems in this situation compared to the rest of the Firesome Foursome. Zuko is angryā„¢ļø and lashing out, Ty Lee is sad and concerned and Azula is posturing. But Mai is just so devoid of even sadness around her chidlhood trauma.
It's sort of like she shut down emotionally to some extent, (even more than usual) especially after her fight with Zuko.

This is quite a common reaction to arguments from someone who was raised to be obedient and non-confrontational, so I'm not surprised she was acting like this.
Analysing Mai's behaviour on the beach is interesting.
She seems to try to reach out to Zuko in her own, tepid little way by greeting him, but clams back up when he asks her where "her new boyfriend" was. This leads to her smacking his hand away when he tries to reach out to her by asking if she's cold. They're both trying to mend the bridge, but end up escalating the conflict further.
She remains silent for a good while, but does speak up in order to defend Ty Lee from Zuko lashing out. Despite this, when Zuko persists, Mai doesn't push the issue, perhaps due to her upbringing to be placid.
Due to this, I find it intriguing when Mai mocks Ty Lee for attention seeking, since she had attempted to defend Ty Lee from Zuko's ridicule. But perhaps its due to jealousy or frustration by Ty Lee's freely expressed sorrow and trauma that made Mai lash out in her own way.
Or it's just because the writers didn't know how to jump from Ty Lee's traumadump to Mai's lol
This is where we get into the meat and potatoes of Mai's confession.
Ty Lee bites back at Mai and parrots Zuko's opinion of Mai being "a big blah" as he said.
Ty Lee : Well, what's your excuse, Mai? You were an only child for fifteen years, but even with all that attention, your aura is this dingy, pasty, gray ... Mai : I don't believe in auras. Zuko: Yeah, you don't believe in anything. Mai : Oh, well, I'm sorry I can't be as high-strung and crazy as the rest of you. Zuko: I'm sorry, too. I wish you would be high-strung and crazy for once instead of keeping all your feelings bottled up inside. She just called your aura dingy. Are you gonna take that?
I think what's interesting here is that while Ty Lee saw Mai as recieving the attention Ty Lee had craved, Mai seemed to receive less loving, parental attention, and more scrutiny. Mai's parents also seem to be actually rather neglectful emotionally towards Mai and them just leaving Tom Tom unsupervised behind a screen in Omashu leaves me questioning if they actually cared that much.
Mai deflects, not adressing Ty Lee's question, but rather focusing on the nebulous concept of auras instead. When Zuko butts in, trying to rile her up, Mai gives a sarcastic apology. I find it very interesting that she sets hereself so aside from the others in terms of her not being "high strung and crazy", because it really shows the difference in Mai's upbringing and that of her companions. Azula and Zuko were raised to be leaders and fighters, and their "firebender instincts" were encouraged, while Ty Lee persumably had to compete for attention with her siblings. While Mai was raised with the :be seen and not heard" mentality.
Now is also a good time to mention that I think Mai has almost comically obvious signs of depression, which wouldn't be a stretch.
Zuko calling Mai out for not getting angry over Ty Lee insulting her aura leads me to my next point. Persumably, being a child raised by parents like Michi and Ukano, Mai wasn't allowed to voice her discomfort, offence or upset. Hell we see this in Omashu when Mai complains about being bored and Michi basically shuts her down and tells her to enjoy it.

I mean look at the expression Michi gives Mai when she starts complaining about being bored, a very normal teenager thing to do.
And when Mai finally does speak her mind, it is no less heartwrenching.
Mai : What do you want from me? You want a teary confession about how hard my childhood was? Well, it wasn't. I was a rich only child who got anything I wanted... as long as I behaved and sat still, and didn't speak unless spoken to. My mother said I had to keep out of trouble. We had my dad's political career to think about.
The first thing that jumps out at us is how Mai presents her trauma. She doesn't explicitly express any pain or sadness, despite it being rather obvious to us. This is in stark contrast to the rest of the group. Ty Lee and Zuko are both very open about their negative emotions, hell, even Azula admits that Ursa's actions hurt her.
But Mai? Mai kneecaps her complaint. This can also be seen as an effect of her upbringing. No complaining, no making herself inconvenient for mom and dad.

We also see the theme of conditional love, an implied idea that Michi and Ukano would only give Mai affection or gifts if she acted the way they wanted her to. Now conditional love from people who are meant to raise you will fuck you up.
The comics also add that Michi actively told Mai scary stories about the Kemurimage to keep her in line. Now, telling kids stories about magical beings to get them to behave isn't anything new, but it appears to be so bad that Mai had nightmares over it. Also we're in a world where spirits actually exist, evil chidnapper spirits don't seem too far out the realm of possibility.

Also as someone who got raised by a heavily Catholic mother who made me believe I would burn in hell for an eternity if I even mildly displeased her, I do sympathise
Azula: Well, that's it, then. You have a controlling mother who had certain expectations, and if you strayed from them, you were shut down. That's why you're afraid to care about anything, and why you can't express yourself. Mai : You want me to express myself? [Stands up and yells.] Leave me alone! Zuko: I like it when you express yourself. [Approaching, attempting to put a hand on her shoulder.] Mai : Don't touch me! I'm still mad at you. Zuko: My life hasn't been that easy either, Mai. Mai: Whatever. That doesn't excuse the way you've been acting.
I love when Mai yells at Azula for frying to psychoanalyse her. Like Azula was right, but it understandably upset Mai, and it's a good thing she expressed that. It means she's growing.

I also do adore that Mai does not let Zuko get away with acting out, particularly towards her. I like that the writer's didn't just have Mai give Zuko a free pass because he had a shitty life and she actively called him out on his actions. It's probably my favourite part of their relationship. And Mai expressing so much anger and upset is a perfect crescendo to her little scene.
I don't know why but Mai confession scene just holds so much weight and emotion for me, I can't help but feel something whenever I watch it.

Also, side note, I find it an interesting detail that Azula's confession only came after the fire was extinguished. Perhaps it wasn't intentional but it kinda feels like its symbolising that the light "went out" for Azula (at least narrativewise) and that while Zuko, Ty Lee and Mai would be able to get out of their shitty situations and from under the Fire Nation's influence, she would not.

"Oscar baby I'm gonna go get groceries, do you need anything?" You asked looking at the mirror as you apply your lippie pouting yours lips and making a pop sound to perfect the look as you admire your self in the mirror with your purse.
"Nahh.. Do you want me to come with you?" Oscar replied as he trailed at your back placing a hand on your waist also admiring you, everyone know that your hands are now wrapped on oscar.
They can see how he follows you around like a lost dog, "I can manage." You muttered as you turn around to face him after placing your purse on the table before wrapping your arms on the back of his neck.
"God amore, you are so gorgeous.." Oscar whispered cheekly before kissing your neck as his arms finds it's way to wrap around your waist, "Oh trust me I know."
You take your time giggling as you pressed a kiss on his cheeks after he pulled away from your neck, the shine and pigment from your lips transferred on his skin leaving a kiss mark that you know he will parade everywhere once he got out of the house. "Okay now I have to go, I'm gonna cook us dinner after I got home." You addressed as both of you pulled away from each other before kissing him one last time.
"Take care mi reina.." Oscar bid as you stepped out the house waving him a bye before completely leaving and driving away from the house.
Monse's heart raced after seeing the scene from behind the curtain of the house, all the enjoyment she has from earlier was all washed away after seeing the kissing figure. The girl stepped out of the house who looks nothing like monse and nothing like how she styles.
Cesar from inside the house saw monse's reaction from outside, he knew what she saw and what she is thinking right now. He gathered himself up before running out of the house, breathlessly looking at monse who is now at the step of the house.
"Who is she?.." Monse muttered looking cesar eye to eye gritting her teeth just to hold her tears from spilling, the hurt she is feeling right now is nothing compared on how hurt she is from watching a heartbreaking movie. "Monse you don't understa-"
"That you are fucking someone behind my back?" Monse cut Cesar's words with an angry tone as everything is too overwhelming for her as tears is starting to fall out of her eyes, "No monse. I would never do that to you.." Cesar's tone is filled with sadness which made his voice break after his heavy heart.
"Then who is she?!" her voice is starting to get higher as cesar is trying to calm her down to explain himself, as his brother's nosey ass decided it's nice thing to go look out what's happening.
"She's my brothers girlfriend. Believe me in this monse, I swear to the God in heaven I would never do something to hurt you." Cesar's voice is breaking again tears is starting to pull away from his eyes as he heard footsteps from behind him knowing it's brother he look to finally see an excuse on his face. "Look at this kiss mark, it's from her." he pointed sighing at the evidence.
"Oh my God.." Monse muttered covering her mouth from shock before wiping her tears away, just in time you drove back at the drive way stepping out of your car.
"Just right I forgot my purse.." You said as you walk near cesar and monse seeing her state from previous, "Oh darling what happened to you?" first thing that came into your mind as you place a hand on her shoulder. You might not know someone but you'll still care for them if they are at this state of their self.
"Come on let's get you inside.." You said as cesar and oscar stepped out the way as you guide monse to sit on the kitchen as you pulled a cold water from the refrigerator. "You're Cesar's girl right?" You asked entertaining her as she drank from the cup you gave her.
All monse did is nod, "What happened?" You asked her once again as cesar and oscar started approaching both of you, Cesar was the one to explain what happened to you because monse is not in the state of talking but she appreciate how kindhearted you are as guilt starting to eat her from doubting you as Cesar's other woman.
"Oh so you guys are a thing? That's why I keep seeing girls shirt on your room." You muttered as monse almost choke on the water. As for oscar he is sitting beside you just happy to be there while a kiss mark still plastered on his face.
"Don't worry baby, I washed your clothes.." You explained as you place a hand on her knees to comfort her, "Thank you so much. God i shouldn't have questioned cesar." Monse retorted as you gave her a smile to assure her.
"That's normal you know and tell me if oscar ever hurt you." You said pursing your lips as you stood up to get your purse because that's the main purpose why you are here right now, "It's getting late I wouldn't have time to cook. Let's just eat outside and monse eat with us later, I wanna know you more." You turned at her.
"Oh I don't have any shirt with me right now to change." Monse replied to you with a smile, "You have a shirt here darling, I put it on Oscar's shirts." You said to her patting her shoulders again as cesar is behind her keeping him by his side.
"I'm gonna help you get groceries.." Oscar said with decide tone in his words you just rolled your eyes cause you know you couldn't say no to him if he is starting to be like that, "Kids we are gonna left you for an hour.. And there's a condom on the drawer." You winked at monse who just look at the ground shying away as oscar laughed who hold your waist to escort you out side.
Cesar mirrored both of you with monse cause he doesn't wanna leave her behind but he wants to bid you guys goodbye, "Drive safe oscar." Cesar said chuckling same as oscar who sits on the driver's seat after opening a door for you. "Yeah kid cause you said so."

-[Dannyā€™s Powers]-
So we all know Dannyā€™s got a lot of powers, but I feel like a lot of people underestimate how powerful he really is, letā€™s compare a scene from S1 to S2. Specifically ā€œMy Brotherā€™s Keeperā€ and ā€œKindred Spiritsā€.
So Danny in the first clip is angry, so angry he amps up the power of his ghost ray mid-blast, this is just 4 episodes after he gets this power. Heā€™s still learning to use it so this is probably as strong as he can make it currently.
In the 2nd clip Danny totally wipes out everything in a several foot radius, which is way stronger than what his ghost ray was in S1. I decided to do a quick bit of calculation just to see how far Danny shot that ghost ray.

See I initially thought ā€œeh, maybe 30-40 feetā€ but nope, if Dannyā€™s at least 5ft tall then that puts the blast radius somewhere between 65-70 feet, including the tail of the blast where it would just fade out. Thatā€™s with the ground in the way which adds friction, meaning the blast could go much further by possibly 40-50 feet if shot clear off the ground, maybe even further as thatā€™s only scraping along the bottom section of the blast.
I also love Dannyā€™s reaction to this, because even heā€™s like ā€˜whoaā€™ at what he just did, you can hear the panicked breaths in there too, heā€™s freaking out. This episode also takes place after TUE, so Danny being afraid of his power makes sense here. Heā€™s hurt people with it before: his parents, Sam, Tucker, Valerie and Dash (though he wanted to do that).
Imagine if someone was within that blast range? Theyā€™d be more than dead, theyā€™d be erased.
So after seeing that, yeah, Iā€™d get out of there too. If someone saw Danny Phantom could do that in a public space with no evidence of a ghost attack where people are, who knows what theyā€™d say about him in the media?

You and Spencer are friends who attended at party for a mutual friend and find you have an interesting shared book fantasy.
It had been several hours since youā€™d arrived at the party for a mutual friend. Reid had been cautiously watching you as you talked to everyone and gave them a small amount of your time. Every so often your gazes would meet and youā€™d exchange a smile from a distance. Although youā€™d greeted him when he walked in, youā€™d been rushed away my another friend for some kind of emergency. Every guy you talked to made Reid anxious. He hated the idea of you walking out of this place with someone else. Anyone else but him. Finally you made your way over to him, sitting down beside him and smiling.
ā€œWelcome backā€. Spencer said as you took a sip of your drink.
ā€œThanks. Itā€™s been very hectic. Youā€™d think for a going away party it would be more fun. Instead Iā€™m chasing down my drunk friends.ā€ You sighed.
ā€œYeah, I think I saw one of my drunk friends fall off the bar earlier.ā€ He laughed.
ā€œI saw that. I think weā€™re the only two here that arenā€™t drinking.ā€
ā€œI like to be in control of myself. I drink occasionally but in this atmosphere I donā€™t think itā€™s wise.ā€
ā€œI agree. To much going on and Iā€™m already over stimulatedā€
ā€œGlad Iā€™m not the only one.ā€ He nodded.
You tucked your hair behind your ears and shifted closer to him. ā€œIā€™m really happy you came.ā€
Spencerā€™s eyes lit up, ā€œIā€™m glad too. Iā€™ll admit I was on the fence until I heard youā€™d be coming too.ā€

He nodded, ā€œYeah. This isnā€™t my thing. Bars. Or people.ā€
ā€œI would much rather be at home reading. I hate all this.ā€ You shrugged.

At that you held up your hand to stop him,ā€œDid you just say erotica?ā€
Spencer nodded, ā€œYeah, but not in the way youā€™re thinking of pornography. Itā€™s rather tasteful compared to todayā€™s idea of erotica. Iā€™ve read a few of what is considered erotic today and I think itā€™s just porn on paper.ā€
You stared at him for a long moment. His brown eyes stared back anticipating your response.
ā€œPorn on paper is called smut now.ā€ You smirked.
ā€œYes, and it is just sexually charged writing. Ancient erotica is art. Paintings and images that are tastefully done.ā€ Reid explained.
ā€œI guess my bookshelf is filled with porn then.ā€ You laughed softly.

Suddenly you felt hot. Did the temperature go up? Youā€™d just admitted you had read spicy books.

Spencer was enjoying watching you squirm. You were flustered now. He could see trying to save whatever semblance of a normal conversation there was left.
ā€œFantasy? What kind of fantasy?ā€ He asked.
ā€œNo sexual fantasyā€¦I have Fourth Wing. Have you read it?ā€
ā€œDragons and thunderā€¦I have read it and its sequel.ā€ Reid nodded. ā€œBut may I askā€¦how you felt about the throne scene?ā€
He was torturing you now. He watched as your eyes went wide and your breathing halted just enough to notice.

You raised an eyebrow, ā€œAre you?ā€

He watched you bite your lip. The conversation had taken a sharp turn and now you were staring at each other, both quiet. You wished you knew what he was thinking about.
ā€œDo you want to get out of here?ā€ Spencer finally asked.
ā€œYesā€. You agreed.
He stood and held out his hand for you. You took it and slipped out of your seat, following him out the door. You felt anxious as you walked out into the cold air, cautiously looking up at him.
ā€œDid you drive?ā€ He asked, looking back.
ā€œNoā€¦I came with (your mutual friendā€™s name).ā€
ā€œYou should probably tell her youā€™re leaving.ā€ Spencer smirked.
ā€œI can text her.ā€ You blushed a little as you arrived at Spencerā€™s car.
You turned to face him as he opened the door for you. It was only now that you realized he was so much taller than you. All the time working with him at the university and youā€™d never noticed. He stepped closer and slid a hand around your waist.
ā€œCan I kiss you?ā€ Spencer asked.
Your brained seemed to short circuit, unable to form words, so you nodded almost too enthusiastically. Spencer leaned down and cupped your face, kissing you gently. The feel of his mouth on yours was dizzying. You werenā€™t drunk but you felt like it. He pulled you a little closer and you welcomed the feel of his body. After a few long moments he pulled back leaving you aching his touch. He gazed at you, stroking your cheek gently.
ā€œStill want to go home with me?ā€ He asked.
ā€œYesā€ Was all you could managed, still seeing stars.
Spencer helped you in the car before closing the door and running to the other side. You watched him get in and start the car.
ā€œDonā€™t forget to text (your friendā€™s name).ā€
ā€œOh, right.ā€ You reached for your phone and sent a quick text letting them know youā€™d found a ride.
They sent a reply with eggplant emojiā€™s and water droplets. Thank God it was dark because your cheeks were red at the idea of them knowing who youā€™d left with. The man youā€™d confided in her to having a crush on from the minute heā€™d walked into your life. As he drove you pulled your sleeves over your hands and fidgeted with them anxiously. You couldnā€™t have possibly expected him to not notice. He reached over and laced his fingers with yours.
ā€œYou play with your clothes when youā€™re nervous.ā€ Spencer said, glancing at your hands.
Of course heā€™d noticed. The many meetings youā€™d sat in together, the times youā€™d been in the elevator together alone, the time heā€™d come to you asking for your opinion on a case, heā€™d seen it every time he was near you. You looked up as you felt the car slow to a stop. He put the car in park and you both sat for a moment. Finally your eyes met his. He gave you a soft smile.
ā€œDo you still want to come inside?ā€ Spencer asked.
ā€œI do.ā€ You answered.
He nodded and got out of the car, coming around to open your door and helped you out. Her nerves were started to become more noticeable. You didnā€™t do this. You never went home with guys. Especially not guys you worked with. Especially not anyone with an IQ of 187 and read books on ancient erotica. Spencer took your hand and led you into his building. Once in the elevator you chewed at your lip, your fingers linked with his as he pressed the button to his floor.
ā€œAre you okay?ā€ Spencer asked, reaching up to brush your hair behind your ear.
ā€œSpenceā€¦you need checking on me. Iā€™m fine. Iā€™m sure. I promise.ā€ You said, standing on your toes to kiss him.
He cupped your neck, returning the kiss. He was gentle and soft. You could only hope he maintained that once you were in his apartment. The elevator dings upon arriving at his floor. He pulled away reluctantly and you stepped off, making your way to his front door.
ā€œIā€™m slightly surprised we arenā€™t stumbling down your hallway, too impatient to get inside.ā€ You joked.
Spencer slid his key in the door, ā€œWe could have been but you deserve more respect than me just trying to fuck you.ā€
Your jaw dropped, surprised. ā€œSpencer Reid said fuck!ā€ You smirked.
ā€œIā€™ve been known to swear on occasion.ā€ He replied, letting you inside.
You stepped inside the apartment, looking around. He closed the door and locked it.

ā€œSpenceā€¦we both know whatā€™s going to happenā€¦but can we pretend for five seconds that youā€™re not thinking about undressing me and be making obscene sounds shortly thereafter?ā€ You asked, taking his hand.

It seemed to overflow with classic literature in many languages. You looked at the titles, a few familiar and many youā€™d never seen or heard of. Then your eyes caught a familiar gold cover. You smirked and pulled out Fourth Wing.
ā€œYou really did read it.ā€ You smirked.
ā€œYou and Penelope wouldnā€™t shut up about it, I was curious what had you so worked up. Itā€™s not my thing but it peaked my interest.ā€ He replied. ā€œEspecially chapter 48 in Iron Flame.ā€
You froze, knowing exactly what he was referring to. He leaned in close, his breath hot on your skin.
ā€œMy house. My chair. My woman.ā€ He whispered.
You looked up at him, your mouth suddenly dry. You had forgotten heā€™d mentioned the throne room scene.
ā€œYouā€¦umā€¦you know the exact chapter.ā€ You stammered.
He smirked down at you. ā€œOf course I do. You never told me how you felt about it.ā€
ā€œI meanā€¦obviously itā€™s hot.ā€ You turned to face him. ā€œWhat woman doesnā€™t want a man worshipping her on his knees on a throne.ā€
Spencer raised an eyebrow. ā€œIs that what you want?ā€

You licked your lips as you felt your pulse rising. You felt hot again. You knew why youā€™d come to his apartment and now was the time you stopped pretending it was innocent.

Spencer gave a soft smile and led you to his room. It was neat, bed made and everything orderly. Your eyes fell upon a gorgeous leather chair near the window. It was the perfect reading chair, but tonight it was going to be a throne for him to worship you on. He walked you over and you admired it. You could see it was tall enough that your feet might dangle if you sat down, and the leather was soft. God forbid you dig your nails into it and mark the leather.
ā€œAre you sure?ā€ Spencer asked from behind you.
You felt his hands sliding up your arms, stroking your biceps gently. His breath was hot on your neck as you leaned back into him.
ā€œYes.ā€ You said, eyes closing when he kissed your neck.
ā€œThen sit down.ā€
You swallowed anxiously, turning to face him before sitting down. You could have sworn his eyes darkened just a bit as he moved to the floor. Surprisingly the chair was the perfect height for you to be face to face. You pulled him against you and kissed him. His hands ran through your hair and down your shoulders. You knew exactly want was coming. He pulled away and removed your shoes. As his hands moved to your jeans you feel your pulse racing and your breathing quicken. He pulls you to the edge of the chair and tugs them down your legs. The air conditioning sends goosebumps over your skin as Spencer looks up at you. His eyes met yours and you forgot to breathe. He didnā€™t look away as you placed kisses on your legs, creeping higher and higher up your thigh.
ā€œYouā€™re so gorgeous.ā€ He said, stroking your opposite thigh. ā€œGod, youā€™re perfect.ā€

Pointing out little moments and details of scenes that need to be remembered.
lake scene ā€¢ episode 6
before diving into it, bare with me! the lake scene wouldn't be the lake scene if it wasn't for edvin and omar fr: the uncut version of the convo wilmon has was 8 minutes long and all improvised when it was shot. edmar just got told to say what they thought wilmon wanted to say and boom! this lake scene happened. no one is doing it like them.
oh alice is the cherry on top - the 'oh alice we're growing up', the melody fits the setting and the warm colors just right. the perfect song for the perfect scene.
talking about song - wille's song was written right after this scene as lisa said: 'i could see simon walking back home that night, sitting down by his keyboard, birds singing outside, the sun already up and finally it dawning in him: it shouldn't be a revolution to love someone'. do what you want with this info!
without further ado, let's get into it :)
the little smirk after wille stumbles is cuuute. terms are not the best but it still takes something so simple to lighten the mood.
wille's carrying his blue blanket with him can only mean they went to his room to take it before heading here - and so in the time between scenes they talked and thought about the lake to forget everything, planned to bring a blanket to lie down on and enjoy the sunrise, just the two of them :')

it's so bittersweet - the lake has always been their happy place but the mood is much darker now, they're sharing what they think is the last big moment together at sunrise.
they try to keep the convo as light as possible but they know too well how much this hurts.

the different reactions are what get me the most: wille seems almost relaxed in letting the emotions take over compared to simon who's very controlling over it - he blinks and bites his lip trying to stop more tears from falling, he averts his eyes.
simon's not so accepting whilst wille looks resigned.

the scene makes the best out of the limited time bc nothing feels rushed at all: there's no music at first to create that alone time intimacy properly and it keeps getting better with the camera focusing on the way they look at each other shot after shot.

wilhelm breaking the silence with it takes a fool to remain sane is the sickest thing isweartogod.
such a monumental and fond throwback. it's the first memory they have of each other but it's also the first one we have of wilmon too. it brings everyone back to that very first time.

this shot is incredible. young royals will always hold a special place in my heart and i want to remember wilmon just like this.

you would never tell they saw and touched and explored each other's body more than once by the way they're both so shy to undress and wilhelm has to tear his eyes away from simon.

it's also the first time simon undresses himself without wille's help. i think the essence is - to be completely bare and show the most vulnerable version of themselves, to get rid of all the layers and weights they carry around, to let it all behind for this one last time together.

the sparkle in simon's eyes when he looks at wille is so sweet. it's more of a bitter taste that comes with this scene, but in a list of moments that are a perfect example of how much they simply enjoy each other's company, this is definitely one of those - simon says 'when it was us it was good' at the end and it is very true.
all i see here is the plain and simple version of them, they feel so much and everything about this scene is telling us that they just needed to found the right place and the right time to let it out - the nostalgia, the sorrow, the sadness, the silly energy too. it's all so pure.

'they undress, they walk down into the water naked, and they are rebirthed'. lisa once described this moment using these words and they're probably the most accurate. it reminds me of the thing i wrote earlier - taking the white clothes off feels like freeing themselves of every burden and then stepping into the water as a form of sanctification of it.
whether you see it in a religious or a non-religious way, it is a very beautiful image.

this is extremely beautiful and the transition between the two is perfectly made.
it's such a loving gesture - we can't really tell which one of the two is done before but it's the fact simon does it twice that matters: he follows the instinct to do it once but it's still not enough so he feels the need to do it again.

this shot was one of the stills that came out for promo before the season's release and i remember being completely blown away by it.
i claimed it and said this scene would be one of the core ones of the show and well, i guess i was right!

the whole water sequence is a visual representation of simon getting further and further away from wilhelm. both times he turns around to look at him tho - it's not what he wants to do but he has to do it for their sake.
also! one pov is from into the water and the other one is from the shore. idk if it's casual or hides an actual meaning but it's fun to point out sooo

from wille's words - 'how can you just be over me? i thought it would be us' - we learn that he's convinced simon is already over them and he's alone in struggling to accept it and move on (oh if only he knew).
he breathes but this is more of a this is it sigh - now it's time for me to learn how to let him go.

i mean, i joke a lot about her negging him into falling in love with her, but i honestly think she kind of accidentally did?
so, no, i donā€™t think he knows sheā€™s in love with him. i donā€™t think he has a fucking clue. to be fair, she didnā€™t know either the last time they saw each other before pennytree.
you have to remember how their last two interactions in storm went down. first, jaime has her arrested after loras accuses her of renlyā€™s murder. jaime does this to protect her, but brienne doesnā€™t understand that and she looks at him with eyes full of hurt, thinking he betrayed her. and jaime is borderline apoplectic that she would believe that of him.
then they both carry those emotions into their final asos scene in the white sword tower. jaimeā€™s still smarting from her low opinion of him and is determined to prove to her just how wrong she is about him. his little plan backfires spectacularly. he finds out she still thinks heā€™s absolute scum, that her opinion of him is perhaps worse now than ever.
as for brienne, she is genuinely confused about whatā€™s happening when she goes into the white sword tower scene. she understands jaime is trying to get loras to drop his accusations, but she has no idea why heā€™s doing anything heā€™s doing for her, and she has a hard time trusting people even in simple circumstances. and then jaime makes things worse by being so caustic because she hurt his feelings thinking he betrayed her. the funny thing is, brienne does walk out of the white sword tower scene with jaime vindicated in her mind. from that point on, she talks herself into trusting him, even when she has doubts, until the end of feast where she believes in his sincerity and his good intentions enough to full-throatedly defend him against accusations of villainy.
but jaime is privy to none of that. the last message he got from her was that she thought he would try to bribe her to kill sansa. she tries to backtrack from that accusation in the moment but heā€™s emotionally checked out of the conversation at that point, melted into a puddle of toxic jaime goo.
so by the time they meet again in dance, theyā€™re in this weird position where iā€™d argue brienne is probably more ready to accept that jaime could have feelings for her than he is to accept that she has feelings for him. just the fact that someone with brienneā€™s life experience can bring herself to wonder what jaime would do if she cried on his shoulder tells me she has a slight clue he feels something.
but jaime really doesnā€™t have anything to hang onto that would indicate brienne has feelings for him. lol, i mean anything nice or good sheā€™s done for him are things he could write off as basically being her job.
the only caveat to jaimeā€™s knowledge of brienneā€™s feelings for him is that he does know she is physically attracted to him.
after loras leaves them in the round room, brienne is awkward and hesitant when jaime compliments her, and then she flounders trying to compliment him back. compare it to the bathhouse scene where we know from brienneā€™s pov that she was very attracted to him but jaime didnā€™t really clock it. here, he notices. sheā€™s ā€œflustered.ā€ she wants ā€œto flee.ā€ even if he doesnā€™t explicitly diagnose the cause of her slightly bumbling reaction to seeing him in the white cloak inside his own head, i think he knows. mostly because heā€™s still just arrogant, smooth-talking jaime at that point, as opposed to later when she emotionally disembowels him in slow and painful stages and he turns into a wounded animal.
to me, the way he notices brienneā€™s physical attraction to him is not dissimilar to the way he describes amerei freyā€™s interactions with him. he never explicitly thinks that amiā€™s hitting on him, but itā€™s obvious that she is, and itā€™s obvious that he knows she is.
also important to note for the white sword tower scene is that jaime deliberately gets dolled up in his full kingsguard kit for brienne, and then sits there like a clown for fucking hours waiting for her to show up. so, of course, heā€™s paying extreme attention to her reaction to his efforts.
but everyone thinks jaime is hot, so itā€™s also understandable that he wouldnā€™t take that to mean that she actually likes him.
(he did want to make sure she knew he was hot, though.
he wanted. to make sure. she knew.)
now. if jaime finds out brienne was ready to die for him? well. heā€™s not an idiot. this whole thing could turn around real fast. soā€”
tl;dr - do i think jaime has any idea of brienne's affection for him during feast/dance?

For those still in doubt that Will flayed/influenced Hopper in ST3ā€¦

So when someone flays another basically what happens is, as Mike states they ā€œ[take] over their mindā€ and ā€œbasically become himā€.
Now, itā€™s very interesting how in ST3 we see Hopper act childish- but exclusively in ST3. The very same season Will desperately holds onto his childhood.

Itā€™s suspiciously very meta for him to say lines like this. Itā€™s intentional. The writers didnā€™t just forget how to write Hopper. We are supposed to notice this abrupt shift in his persona and overall demeanour.

As Will says, he likes to hide. Interestingly enough Will and him share that in common. Note the ā€œonly used me when he needed meā€. Same is true for Will using Hopper. Hopper still has moments where he is his ā€œnormalā€ self.

Whenever Hopper is ā€œseriousā€, itā€™s really him. Whenever heā€™s emotional and kid-like, heā€™s under Willā€™s influence.
The Clues
So, letā€™s start by going over some of the major clues, shall we?

The original script tells us that Will wears colourful clothes. Thatā€™s his style and he stands out because of it. Now it seems to be Hopperā€™s style all of a sudden too. Itā€™s even noted by officer Powell here that itā€™s surprising to see Hopper dress this way.
Play these transition scenes. The first one has Lucas asking Will for permission to take a shower, then we are shown Hopper showering. I suppose Will granted Hopper said permission. Then of course we have El asking ā€œhow can you tell when someoneā€™s a host?ā€ afterwards the first person we see is Hopper himself. A perfect example of a host. They answered her question!

We are often shown Hopper acting childish. Look at how heā€™s holding his pillow! We never saw him doing this in seasons prior. Then we have Murray outright calling him a ā€œmanbabyā€ and ā€œchildrenā€.

When ā€œHopperā€ orders an alcoholic beverage he struggles with the pronunciation. Reminiscent of a young person attempting (but failing) to appear older and more mature.

We even are shown him being fed lines that came from a Byers.

Now for the major clue. Why oh why did they show Will while Mike explained that Hopper threatened him? Not just Will, but Will moving pieces on a board. Heā€™s essentially controlling things! Bending to his will, if you will. I mean it makes sense. We know Will was very jealous of Mike and El and complained about them! Just like Hopper, he wants them to break up. Perhaps even more than Hopper actually does.

Then we have Mike referring to him as crazy! Thatā€™s their special word, so naturally ā€œHopperā€/Will does not take this well. Look at his face! He looks betrayed.
The References

Itā€™s extremely subtle, but we have another Byler/Jopper parallel here. Earlier in 3x01, we see Joyce holding Hopperā€™s left hand, very reminiscent of Mike holding Willā€™s right hand last season. Then we have Hopper communicating in Morse Code as he and Mike fight to lock/unlock the car door several times. Notice how we have a shot of his left hand doing the locking of the door? Same one Joyce held. Iā€™ve tried to work out what heā€™s communicating but Iā€™m falling short. If anyone wants to take a stab at it please let me know your findings!

Then we have the Back to the Future references. Again very subtle, but there nonetheless. As we know, Will is compared to Marty Mcfly a fair bit, ever since his very first appearance!
Do you recall the plot of Back to the Future? Marty travels to the past, accidentally changes some things, then has to bring his parents back together! Will does the same thingā€¦ through Hopper!

Now keep in mindā€¦ these scenes all occur within the same episode. While trying to set up his mother and Hopper together through ā€œflayingā€ Hopper, Will accidentally gets his mom interested in him (as Hopper). That is why he refers to Murray as ā€œFreudā€ aka the Psychologist who created the theory of ā€œthe Oedipus Complexā€. This is also why Robin drops that line about of the movie.
Soā€¦ How?

If you recall back in ST2, Hopper is spat on by something and was trapped in the UD. Will is able to sense him and thus is connected to him. Hopper is a part of Willā€™s hive mind. I also believe they may be biologically father and sonā€¦ but thatā€™s for another post.
The Implications of All of Thisā€¦
So what does this mean? Iā€™m not fully sure, but it seems like Will has some abilities here. I have no idea if itā€™s future Will manipulating things, or present Will and Iā€™m not so sure how aware he is of all of this.
But in regards to Mikeā€¦ here are some funny implicationsā€¦

ST3 shows us a Mike with a peculiar fascination with bears. Bears seem to be associated with Will and ā€œbearā€ has a specific other definitionā€¦

Now the icing on the cake with this is the fact that Mike has made comments regarding Hopperā€™s weight multiple times! So, heā€™s well aware of Hopperā€™s ā€œbearā€ status. Mike shows interest in bears because heā€™s interested in Will. Will essentially is a ā€œbearā€ while he is puppeteering Hopper.

Itā€™s also nice to know that Will actually did get that hug he yearned for from Mike. We just didnā€™t realize it. Mike and ā€œHopperā€ hugged a tad longer than normal too while Will was facing them of course.
To conclude, I know this theory sounds so silly and I sound insane, but I swear to youā€¦ this is real. I may be wrong about some aspects of this but I know Will influenced Hopper in some way. Remember though, itā€™s not a constant thing. Will only ā€œused him when he needed toā€. Will experienced being flayed in ST2, then he became the ā€œflayerā€ in ST3.

How did your DU drow react when he got told he had to kill his spouse? and then when he went to wake up Astarion and get tied up? I think I just wanna know how your DU drow mentally/emotionally is doing during and after that part, and when talking to Astarion afterward, I'm a sucker for hearing about those deep kinds of moments (hopefully that makes sense?) Also, how did your DU react when you met Kressa Bonedaughter and learned all about what was done to him (again, I know none of the companions really comment on literally something horrible being told such a shame, honestly) but how would you say or think that Astarion and Shadowheart might have reacted hearing that info? Again, thank you for all your art and for answering these questions! PS: (I really don't care if your answer is super long; I WILL EAT IT UP)
Sooo for the first question, I wanna preface by saying that I personally don't think their relationship was that in depth yet, at that point. Yes, DU drow enjoyed Astarion's company and relied on him in a similar way which he relied on Shadowheart. And also yes, Astarion saw DU drow as the first person who ever took him and his agency seriously - but I think feelings were still in their infancy. DU drow's mind was a mess through and through; he drank constantly to keep his urge at bay, he kept his distance from everyone most of the time, and when he did seek out comfort in either Shadowheart or Astarion (the non-sexual kind, they didn't really fuck at all), it was a kind of primal instinct and desperate longing for companionship - if you asked him if he was in love with anyone, however, he would have said no.
Similarly, while I think Astarion's act 2 confession is sincere, I also think that he's being sincere when he says that he doesn't know what you are yet. You're not really a lover, but you aren't a victim, either; what you are is a person who he would rather not have to murder eventually, and as someone who has had their empathy squeezed out throughout the course of two centuries, that's meaningful enough. He may fantasize about the best case scenario for you two - but he has no expectations that whatever this is will last. But it is nice, for the time being.
So the "murder your darling" scene, rather than a proof of love and trust, is to me the turning point where:
A) DU drow has to come to terms with the fact that he doesn't have as much control over the Urge as he thought, and B) When Astarion snaps out of his care-free, just-go-with-the-flow nature around his plan and this relationship. They both realize they bit off more than they could chew and are now caught in each other's crossfire.
Which is to say that I don't read Astarion's words of comfort to him as entirely honest - specially when you compare it to certain dialogue deliveries later in the game. I think he's still, to a degree, telling you what you need to hear so that you hold out for just a bit longer and kill Cazador. You probably can't be together forever as he idly fantasized about once or twice, when he let his mind wander - but god damn it, he needs to at least be free, and it seems like you have bloodlust to spare to make that happen.
Meanwhile, DU drow finally comes to confront the fact that he is not in control. Doesn't matter how hard he tries or how much he drinks, the urge will do to him as it will, and when it wishes. It stops being fun and it gets scary, from that moment on.
But here's who did stop it: Astarion. Where alcohol fell short and his willpower failed, Astarion stepped in.
So, more interesting than the scene itself to me, is how from that point on DU drow would have no choice but put his trust entirely on the vampire to control him. He ties him up, he keeps an eye on him, he has full spoken-word permission to kill him if necessary - he is forced to be as vulnerable at humanly possible under his hand, every night. Regardless of whether or not DU drow realizes that Astarion is doing it for his own reasons, he doesnt care, because Astarion has now become his rock and his bondage - hell, if Astarion does have a reason to keep him alive that's all the better; someone else might just slit DU drow's throat and be done with the concern altogether.
And so, it's only from that point on that DU drow truly starts to see Astarion as an equal, and even a partner. He's thinking that, if his whole life has to be like this, at least he has someone who can handle it.
Astarion, meanwhile, I believe only comes to truly consider (and wish for) DU drow's freedom after he's free from Cazador - and after he bestows that freedom upon his siblings and the other spawn. That's when he finally understands the length of DU drow's devotion to him and the value of freewill as a concept- and how he wants it for both of them, instead of being content with his own.
Not to mention... I think in Astarion's mind he was 100% not going to survive Cazador LOL so when he succeeds he's like "oh shit I guess anything is fucking possible huh. Yeah fuck it lets go fight your dad, also I've decided I want you for realsies, now."
Anyways, can you believe I thought this was gonna be a short ask. Here have a doodle I made while thinking about all this bullshit:

As for Kressa, I got an ask about that before but I can't find it now LOL to summarize; he was pissed, angered, and in a far more personal level embarrassed to have had his dirty laundry aired (AKA, victimized) in that way in front of the others - but this isn't something he would have expressed outwardly, and I think both Shadowheart and Astarion would have known better than to inquire him about it. It's not really something he would have sought out comfort for in anyone, so, I think the subject died as soon as Kressa did. In this case, their lack of commentary was completely appropriate - If they had reached out in any way (which would have been, in my opinion, completely out of character) DU drow would have shut them out with a quickness.

What's all this about Solas speaking in iambic pentameter? English isn't my first language so I never noticed anything odd about the way he talks, but your blog is the first time I've seen it mentioned by anyone
hello! ā—•ā€æā—• Solas sometimes speaks in a specific pattern or rhythm. It sometimes gets described as or compared by people to iambic pentameter. (which is a type of rhythm common in traditional English poetry. Shakespeare used it in his sonnets and plays.) Though, I'm not sure that it's actually literally that or always that. The main point is that at those times, he's speaking particularly poetically, with a specific poetic rhythm in his speech. (Like where the stress on syllables is and the 'beats' in his speech.) Occasionally, the Inquisitor's dialogue line[s] in response to him are the same.
When Trick Weekes wrote Solas in DA:I, they wrote some of his key scenes to KD Lang's cover of the song Hallelujah on a loop. They talked about some of their process and the reasons for the use of this technique in terms of Solas' characterization in this DA:I-era blog post:
Trick Weekes: "When Solas talks about things that he saw in the Fade, things that speak to a distant past, I needed him to sound ever so slightly otherworldly and wistful ā€“ someone remembering a dream with a sense of both sadness and inevitability. If you follow [that link] and look at some of Solasā€™s lines, you may notice a familiar rhythm come out. It would have been forcing it to give lines the same rhyme scheme, but giving the words the meter captured some of that wistfulness and made Solas sound ever so slightly otherworldly. (In the rare cases the player got into the same rhythm, there was always an approval bump from Solas. For that brief period, it was like the player was thinking like he did.) I used this a few times over the game, and I love what it did to his voice. men that don't know what to do when he hears your self-deprecating comments from the other room. he got home early, and was going to surprise you, a gorgeous bouqet of roses in the hand behind his back. his smile faded, his excitement turned into a pain in his heart. you were comparing yourself to another woman that had talked smack about your appearance earlier in the day.
he saw it all unfold as soon as he lightly walked from the front door to your shared bedroom. he didn't want to let you know of his presence- no, not yet. he wanted to see how far you'd take your words, and to get a better grasp of what was really going on.
the scene in front of him was heartbreaking; you were standing nearly completely naked in front of the full lengthed mirror in the corner of the room, your back nearly turned to the door, but not enough to see him in the mirror behind you unless you find a certain angle. you were running your hands over your chest, saying something about them being "too big" and "not fitting of your body type."
he figured he should intervene soon. he didn't want you talking about yourself like this, especially when he's right behind you, and could do something about it.
he doesn't know what to say, which is why he's not stepping in right away.
he waits for you to turn around, a gasp leaving your mouth and the look on your face one of pure horror. you didn't know what to say either, besides a small little
"did you hear all of that...?"
he nods, sadness evident on his gorgeous face. you could only but fall on the floor, right in front of the mirror, and cry. you were embarrassed, nervous about how much he saw and heard. you thought he'd be mad, he'd run away, he'd agree with you, but instead he falls to his knees and hugs you tight.
he let you cry it out on his shoulder, whispering every single thing he loved about you and your appearance, hoping to make you feel even a little bit better about yourself. he repeated "i love you" and "you're gorgeous the way you are, baby."
after about a half hour, you'd calm down, and he'd let go of the hug, bringing you up onto the bed and cuddling with you there. he doesn't want to push you to talk it out, not now at least. he's tired, you're tired, and you're in the wrong mental space right now. he knows that, and tries to hum a small tune to put you to sleep.
