@victoriousfidelity said â The multiple failed assassination attempts against me have helped build both character and self esteem. â
As the timing of entrances go, itâs pretty spectacular. The Queenâs council sits around its usual table, Sigyn herself at its head as she, typically, manages to see the good even in attempted murder ( â the same kindness and strength that meant she saw the good even in a disgraced frost giant). And then Loki enters â not a council member but permitted entrance as per the Queenâs prior instruction â the conclusion to these assassination attempts contained within the sack he has clutched in one hand.
Attention shifts to him of course, various flavours of outrage passing across old menâs faces, confusion across some, concern across his wifeâs. Before she, or any of them, can speak, the trickster strides forwards, black boots marking confident steps across the polished floor. Violet blooms across his cheekbone, and he really needs to speak to a healer about the angle of one of his fingers, but delivering this information could not wait.
âYour majesty. Council.â A respectful bow to his wife, and inclination of the head to the others present. Many of them are not on the best terms, but at this moment Loki couldnât care less about political squabbles. âIt is my pleasure to inform you that the source of the assassination attempts has been discovered. He will present no further problems.â

Hello and congrats on 800 followers!!! Could I ask for an Eskel x female cat Witcher!reader with prompts 3 or 5? Thanks đ
Hi anon! Thanks so much and thanks for this really fun combination of prompt. Hereâs my little silly take on cat!witcher!reader x Eskel. Hope you like it.
Send your prompt requests here.
Cat!Witcher!reader x Eskel: âitâs really not that complicatedâ (prompt 3) and âwe could get arrested for thisâ (prompt 5)
âWould you hurry up, wolf?â you urge your travel companion as he struggles to pick a simple lock, âitâs really not that complicated, for the love of the gods.â
âYou try and pick a lock in a tight space with little to no natural light,â you hear the witcher known as Eskel snide back. A guttural groan pushes past his lips as he tugs on the lock in his frustration. âFucking thing!â
âOh, get out of my damn way,â you snap at him as you squeeze yourself into said tight space, elbowing Eskel in the ribs as you wriggle up to where the lock is resisting the wolf witcher, âhere, watch an expert at work.â
âWhy am I not surprised that you Cat witchers know how to pick locks?â Eskel punctuates his words with a pointed eyeroll.
âAt least Guxart taught us some street smarts. What do you bring to the table, your theoretical knowledge of monsters? Your working knowledge of poetry? Howâs that gonna help, you gonna bore the guards to death by reciting a couple of verses?â
âFuck you.â
âMake me,â you hiss in response, but your mood quickly brightens when you hear the familiar âclickâ sound as the lock yields under your nimble fingers. You pull on it harshly and manage to open the trap door, your only escape out of these dungeons. âHah! Where does that take us?â
âSewers, judging by the stench,â Eskel remarks, his nose scrunching up in distaste. You canât help but agree with your companion on this one. âBeggars canât be choosers, I guess.â
âLetâs go, then.â
With the agility worthy of your namesake, you jump down yet another hole tight and land on your feet and hands. You keep this position long enough to assess your surroundings, your yellow-green eyes picking up every movement without needing to use a Cat potion. Unlike Eskel, who is probably downing one as you wait for him to follow you into the sewers. Once you are satisfied that there is no immediate danger, you rise to your full height and silently slip along the humid walls. You hear rats squeaking in the distance and scattering as the sound of Eskel landing next to you spook them.
âAny idea which direction we should be taking, street-smarts?â
âWell, the exit was north-west of our cell, so Iâm gonna take a wild guess and say we should be heading that way,â you point in the direction you were referring to, âyou got your swords?â
âDuh,â is all Eskel offered in response, âdo you think so little of me?â
âDo you want an honest answer to that question? Câmon, weâve wasted enough time waiting for you to drink that stupid Cat potion.â
You ignore Eskelâs grumbled response and take off without another word. You and Eskel have known each other for years. You first met on the path after he saved you from a particularly aggressive female wyvern. The beast was in heat and very territorial, and she did not appreciate anyone interrupting her mating rituals. There had been no contract on her head, you just happened to have the worst of luck. After Eskel saved you, he could hardly believe that he was not only standing face to face with a witcher from the School of the Cat, notoriously responsible for the creation of a famously vicious breed of emotionally-volatile assassins, but face to face with a female witcher no less. Your school often trained women, but very few of those were put through the trials and even fewer survived. You managed to beat the odds. Youâre exceptionally good at what you do, which is why you and Eskel got along so well.
After months of travelling together, and after a boozy night following a successful contract, you and Eskel became lovers. At first, it was purely physical, but as the months bled into years you realised that it was nice to have someone to go back to after an exceedingy shitty year on the Path. You started to miss Eskel after prolonged periods of not seeing each other and thatâs when you admitted to yourself that it had stopped being purely physical a long time ago. You couldnât let Eskel know, though. It would only get to his head. Thatâs why you settled for the tough love approach instead. It worked fine. Eskel had yet to run away.
Your train of thought is interrupted when you hear the familiar hiss of drowners in the darkness. You and Eskel simultaneously unsheathe your swords and brace yourself for an attack. One drowner sneaks up on Eskel from behind, but you notice it first out of the corner of your eyes and blast Igni in its face. In the meantime, Eskel hacks off the arm of another beast before running his silver sword through its abdomen, killing it with one powerful thrust. In the distance, you hear the echoes of more drowners heading your way.
âShit. We need to fucking hurry.â
You run blindly through the labyrinth of underground tunnels. The truth is that neither of you knows where the exit is, or if there even is an exit. There has to be, you reason, the sewers always lead somewhere. Traditionally to a river, at least. There had to be an exit, or else the underground tunnels would be flooded and you would be swimming in shitwater by now. The fact that you arenât is a fucking sign right? Right?
âThere? You feel that?â Eskel suddenly speaks and instantly every hair on your body bristles in anticipation.
âFeel what?â
âA draught.â Yes. You do feel it now that Eskel mentioned it. âFollow me. Turn to the left.â
You follow Eskel through the sewers, and to the relief of you both, youâre running away from the nest of drowners rather than towards it. Under any other circumstance neither of you wouldâve shied from a group of drowners, but you were trying to escape and not draw more attention to yourself. Some other witcher, one that was preferably not wanted in Temeria, could take care of that one.
âWeâre getting closer,â you say when your nose picks up the smell of fish and seawater, âweâve almost made it.â
You and Eskel reach an opening several frantic minutes later, at once out of breath but also relieved that you managed to find your way out of those dungeons. Itâs dark outside, which will help you and Eskel escape without raising too much attention, or so you hope. You both manage to exit the sewers soundlessly. Even Eskel with his impressive size manages to stealth his way past guards and civilians alike. Not as flawlessly as yourself, mind you, but you werenât one to brag.
Well, maybe a little bit, but there would be time for boasting later.
âHey look, thereâs some horses there,â you tell him, your voice too quiet for any mortal ear to pick up but you knew Eskel could hear you loud and clear.
âNo. I need to get back to Scorpion.â
âOh good gods - really? Eskel, we donât have time for this. Scorpion is stabled near the city gates⌠at the other side of fucking town.â
âIâm not leaving Scorpion.â
With that, Eskel takes off in the opposite direction, leaving you to ponder whether you should follow him or go your own way and hope that your paths will cross again eventually. Fuck it, who are you kidding, you wouldnât let that idiot risk his life for a stupid horse on his own. Well, if he gets caught you might just let him ride it out for a while⌠you know, just to teach him a lesson.
You follow Eskelâs trail, making sure to remain unseen. Your hand reaches up and touches your witcher medallion, shaped in the form of a catâs head, something youâve done since the trials to ground you, to calm your nerves. After what felt like the longest fucking chase ever, you see Eskel pressed against the wall of the stables that you recognise as the place you two had left your horses in two days ago when you first arrived. Eskel peeks around the corner, checking for guards, and when heâs satisfied that he hasnât been spotted he climbs up the side of the building at a surprising speed. You curse under your breath, but follow him up onto the roof of the building.
âYou know we could get arrested for this?â you tell him once you reach the top. Eskel raises an eyebrow, a mocking grin tugging at the scarless corner of his lips. Anticipating his smartass remark, you hiss: âIâve just sneaked out of a dungeon, I donât fancy another trip through those sewers.â
âDonât worry, this wonât take you long.â
âMe? Whatever do you mean, me?â Your eyes land on the chimney and its opening, too narrow for Eskel to fit through, but not too narrow to fit⌠you. Oh, the bastard was going to pay for this. When you turn to glare at your companion, all you can see is the protruding lower lip and the pleading eyes.
âNoâŚâ
âPlease? Scorpion means the world to me.â
âWhat about me?â you snap, forcing yourself to look away or risk falling for Eskelâs pretty face all over again, âdonât I mean the world to you?â
âOf course,â he says, his tone growing softer, âand Iâm sure if the situations were reversed, Scorpion would do the same for you.â
âUrgh, fine!â you eventually relent despite the absurdity of Eskelâs last comment, âbut you owe me for this.â
To this day you donât know how you and Eskel didnât get caught sneaking a massive war stallion out of the stables, nor how you two managed to escape the guards at the city gates. It certainly made for an interesting story that winter when you and Eskel travelled back to Kaer Morhen.
Lambert relentlessly teases you for âgrowing too softâ and âbeing wrapped around Eskelâs little fingerâ, but when you see the open adoration written plainly on Eskelâs face as soon as he and you retreat back to his room, well, you simply donât find it in yourself to truly mind all that much.

Hi Colour! This is going to be a long one, so buckle up!
Oh wow, that's so precious! You've definitely earned the "real life Dani" nickname haha I wish I could find something meaningful like that to do with my life. I'm actually autistic and have ADHD so hearing you do this kind of work makes me really happy! Keep up the good work Ms. Clayton! đ Haha
You sound like a lot of fun to hang out with at pubs! Haha I'm glad you identify with that bit of info on your star placements. I had a lot of fun doing it too!
The thing about Hozier is that some of his lyrics are incredibly sapphic to me for some reason, I'm still trying to figure it out. NFWMB is one of the songs that feels like that to me. Don't know if you've heard it before but give it a try if you haven't. If you close your eyes it sounds like you're in an epic romantic story and there are swords, pretty gowns, and rooms lit by torches. Haha
The beginning of this song was inspired by a poem written by W.B Yeats called "The Second Coming" in 1920, and it talks about an apocalypse of sorts, alluding to all of the horrors men inflicted upon the world which ends up awakening this beast that goes to Jesus's place of birth in the Bible (Bethlehem) to be born. The last lines being:
"And what rough beast, its hour come round at last,
Slouches towards Bethlehem to be born?"
So the song starts with:
"When I first saw you
The end was soon
To Bethlehem it slouched
And then, it must've caught a good look at you"
And oh boy do I think of Dani when I hear that. Especially bc of that scene where Viola accepts Dani's invitation to live inside her. And nobody knows why she accepts it (but I do!).
And yeah at first glance you might not think much of Dani. in the beginning she's just a tiny frail small-town girl with a lot of anxiety, running away from her past traumas. But she proves us wrong again and again and again. She moves to a country she's never been before entirely by herself, sees an opportunity, and doesn't let go of it even when it looks like it went wrong. Then is very loving and tender with these children who have gone through so much and are still going through so much. Tries to fight (with a fire poker!!) the threatening man that keeps harassing her, the children, and her friends. THEN manages to soften the angry, grumpy lesbian who's given up on people after A LOT of trauma (too much in my opinion) and doesn't give up on her when she rejects her either. Freaking exorcises her ex and makes him stop haunting her so she can be with the love of her life. And then finally as if all of that didn't make her the bravest hero in this story, she literally stops an apocalypse from happening and saves everyone from this beast by sacrificing herself without even thinking twice. Saves everyone that came before her and then the ones who'll come after for the rest of eternity. I mean the P-O-W-E-R this girl has. đŞ so hell yeah the lady in the lake wanted to take her.
When Hozier says:
"Ain't it a gentle sound, the rollin' in the graves?
Ain't it like thunder under earth, the sound it makes?
Ain't it exciting you, the rumble where you lay?
Ain't you my baby? ain't you my baby?"
I can only think of Dani at the bottom of the lake laying on top of all the bones of the people Viola killed and how she's at peace living forever in a dark place like that. That's kinda hardcore y'know?
After the first verses, Hozier goes on to talk abt his lover, someone so utterly terrifying even the beast of the end of the world can't stand to look at them. But this song is also about being proud to be this person's lover bc nothing can fuck with them, not bc you are there to protect them and wouldn't let anyone harm them, but bc they're more than capable of protecting themselves and you too. So in my head, this song is Jamie's declaration of love to Dani.
And then I think of Jamie's devotion to Dani when she said "If you can't feel anything, then I'll feel everything for the both of us." shown in this verse:
"If I was born as a blackthorn tree
I'd wanna be felled by you
Held by you
Fuel the pyre of your enemies"
And the fact that she took what she could get just to be with Dani. She knew she'd have to suffer for/bc of her at some point, but chose to be with her anyway. I have no doubts in my mind she'd want to be anything for her as long as they could be together in any way, shape, or form. In all the lives they happened to meet one another too.
Wouldn't it be cool to see them in an AU where Dani is like a medieval princess who's supposed to marry Edmund to form an alliance between kingdoms or something and Jamie is an assassin who is hired to kill the princess so she has to pretend to be Dani's personal guard or wtever but they fall in love and run away together and Jamie teaches her how to fight so Dani becomes this warrior but turns out Dani is naturally good at it and then she becomes a legend? Hahaha I can see her riding a horse in the winter with paint on her face and her blonde hair falling over this fur-lined cloak, fierce look on her face, and Jamie riding next to her (always). Then they come across Viola who's a witch and puts a curse on Dani and then Dani and Jamie have to travel to all sorts of places and fight all sorts of people and go on this whole adventure to rid Dani of this curse. Maybe Dani has to go back to her kingdom bc her father dies and there are other people trying to take her kingdom so there's a lot of angst and suffering but then they win at the end after a lot of sweat and tears and they live happily ever after! đHahaha
Anyway, I hope you're having a great week so far and hope you had fun with your niece today! (I know if I was her and you had us make fudge and paint I'd worship you haha) I'm sorry for the very (very) long ask, but I've been obsessing over this idea for months and I just had to share it with someone! âď¸â¨
(And you can call me Libby or wtever since I'm not anon anymore đ¤)
Awwh thank you so much for saying I have earned my 'real life Dani' title is means a lot to me that you guys see that in me!! I am sure you do so many meaningful things in life without even realising it!! I honestly just want to make a difference and I love helping people so going into a career like this just seemed so natural to me and I really do love what I do!! Thank you so much I really hope I can keep up the good work!! I hope I'm a lot of fun- I know I have helped win a few pub quizzes and there's been a few times I've won games of trivial pursuit as well so that really did make so much sense to me and learning about all the placements of my chart was so much fun and was so interesting so thank you very much!! I have heard some of Hozier's lyrics are quite sapphic and I always mean to look into more of his songs and then just never do but I will definitely look in to NFWMB because the lyrics you have sent me here are incredible and definitely give of Dani x Jamie vibes I definitely agree with you in everything you have said about why Viola accepted Dani's invitation- Dani and Viola are similar in some ways and this was something I was explaining to my niece when she watched it with me. I explained to her that both Viola and Dani are strong willed, and stubborn, and would do anything to fiercely protect the people they care about. We saw that time and time again with Dani, how within days of knowing Miles and Flora she was out with a fire poker trying to protect them from a strange man that she kept seeing around the manor. And how Viola would've done anything to protect her daughter. One major difference between them though is that Viola seemed to have a slight selfish streak where as Dani is entirely selfless, she was selfless for the longest time in even agreeing to marry Eddie so she wouldn't hurt him, she was selfless in protecting Miles and Flora, and even more selfless in saving Flora's life and freeing all the trapped spirits of Bly Manor and then she is selfless in the fact that she won't drag anyone down and won't hurt anyone else at Bly ever again. The one thing she did for herself was being with Jamie- and she was able to make Jamie open up and trust people in way she probably hadn't for the longest time. Dani is a truly strong person as was Viola and I can see why she would accept Dani's invitation. I will have to listen to this song to see it from a Jamie perspective which I will definitely do tomorrow but from the lyrics you have sent me I can definitely see it being a love declaration to Dani from Jamie. Jamie knew in the end she would suffer because she knew she wouldn't be able to keep Dani forever, and knew that one day she would have to leave her- but she knew loving Dani for as long as she was allowed to would be worth that pain in the end and Jamie is a truly strong person as well for knowing this and staying by Dani's side anyway when that must have been such a hard thing for Jamie to ever have to accept. Jamie would've been anything for Dani and would've one anything for her as Dani would've for Jamie and that's why I love them so much. They loved each other so purely and without conditions and so wholeheartedly and it really was such a lovely thing to watch play out in front of us (even if it did hurt us all at the end). I think it would be so cool to see an AU like that I think medieval stuff is always so fun and so interesting and a good enemies to lovers start never fails either because there's so much tension there between them. And Jamie being undercover as someone to get close to Dani and them slowly falling in love with each other would just be a great thing to see!! And I am all for warrior Dani and Jamie (women with weapons is a little bit of a weakness of mine)!! This whole AU just sounds incredible I love a good curse in fantasy stories and the curse slowly taking over and you thinking they're going to run out of time but everything works out in the end!! Dani going back to her kingdom because of her sick Dad dying would be great for angst because it would look
like she would have to marry someone to create an alliance and that she would have to take over a kingdom (perhaps something she never wanted to do in the first place)!! I think this could be a very angsty one shot and could be so interesting and fun and the happy ending would definitely make all the angst worth it in the end!! I am having a good week so far thank you and I had so much fun with my niece today, making fudge went great and she was happy that I was able to show her how to do it because she'd never made it before so now that's something she knows how to do (I think she thinks I'm way cooler than I actually am haha thank you for saying you'd worship me though if you were my niece haha đ) but tomorrow she is teaching me how to do something because I taught her how to make fudge today... she's gonna teach me how to draw in an anime style- which is something she is really into and even though I'm not she loves drawing so I've asked if she can teach me since I taught her something today!! There's no need to apologise I loved this long angst and I loved this idea I think it's really great and interesting and that song just seems amazing and I am definitely gonna listen to it tomorrow when I get chance!! Thank you for sharing this idea with me I loved it!! âşď¸ Haha oki doki then as long as that's alright with you Libby is what I'll call you!! Like I said you can seriously call me anything!! âşď¸

Killing Eve 2x07 Analysis
At Vâs: Reflections reflectionsâŚwith a camera pan to V and Eve that has to turn away from the sight. Sheâs almost there, but not quite.
âDo you want to talk about it? Youâll feel better if you do.â This is coming from the woman whoâs heard people beg for mercy, whoâs heard people tell her they have kids who depend on them, who never ever cares. Yet this time she wants to listen, sheâll encourage someone to speak, so long as that person is Eve. Sympathy, which in Vâs case could be a progression to empathy, seeing as she already feels a connection with Eve strong enough to use the term âusâ. For once, Villanelle doesnât care about whether or not this is a fun activity, whether or not sheâll be bored listening to Eve, what she cares about is Eve being âokâ.
âTwo AA meetings and suddenly youâre the expert on honesty?â âYeahâ
Thing is, she just might be. Letâs not forget that V is exceptionally intelligent, shall we? She may not understand the concept of honesty (which sheâs self-aware about) but what she does understand now is that it is important to Eve. Sheâs so well-versed with honesty now, in fact, that she knows enough to be able to say the following lines: (âDo you mean it?â) âI donât knowâ (âYou donât know if youâre telling the truth or not?â) âNot really.â
Add to this her facial expression:
Our murder baby is trying so hard to reach within herself to know because she knows that, to Eve, honesty is important. Sheâs learning the weight of her words, sheâs learning that even if she doesnât understand honesty, she needs to try to be as sure of what she says to Eve as she can be. There is even a mild sense of insecurity, perhaps? A worry that this is something that will turn Eve away from her? But by god, she will admit that she canât tell the truth apart because itâs the least she can do. The next part, Iâve already written about so I wonât delve into so much, feel free to read it here.
What I do want to add is how utterly sure V is of her next sentence: (âYou donât feel anything?â) âI feel things when Iâm with you.â
The smallest pauseâŚ
Absolute certaintyâŚ
Vulnerability, if she had a face.
That small pause in the first image, it was so brief, to be honest I donât think V was thinking. I think she was feeling. She understood why that question mattered, she understood why Eve had to ask. She understood its implications, the way their dynamic hung in the balance by the answer to that question alone. But the second image, she doesnât have to even think because she knows. Because there is a boy in a grave who knew that to Villanelle âEveâ was synonymous with the word âloveâ, because her first clean kill was titled âlove in an elevatorâ, because the dance floor in an underground club knows, because the bathroom stall in which she almost choked a girl to death knows, because her hotel bed, her hotel bathroom, that damn mirror â all of Amsterdam knows. She doesnât have to think twice before telling Eve: she feels things when sheâs with her. And on that third image, that stare, that certainty. V is no expert at being vulnerable, but she will she try, if only with Eve, to make sure she gets just how honest and true she is being here. Honestly, I think watching a 3 second clip of this moment makes it more clear than still images but itâs the best I could do.
And then my favorite line: âIâm not with them when Iâm with them.â I talk a bit about that on the link above as well.
Restaurant scene:
âItâs the best thing on the menu,â homeboy Aaron is obsessed with the concepts of best, perfect, exact, etc. And honestly heâd be worthy of a diagnosis if I was more interested in him as a character beyond his interactions/comparisons with V. For now lets just say heâs somewhat of a âsocial voyouristâ per se; he likes to watch, to live vicariously through others, itâs so much safer. I love the way this interaction initiates because
Otherworldly pasta!
So much so, Sigh by Unloved starts playing in the background. This song, by the way, played during the Niko and Eve scene from 206. It implies arousal and carnal desire, lust, if you will. But this time itâs not V whoâs aroused, itâs
homeboy Aaron
Also, notice how the moment this scene is initiated we get close ups; this implication of intimacy, along with Sigh playing in the background, but felt by Aaron instead of V. (thank the gods)
And then it begins to switch back and forth from them to
My sexual senses are tingling, must call my gf - I mean V. Sigh continues to play through this constant scenery switches, by the way.
We then get the wide pan as V and Aaron begin to talk about Amber, only for the camera to slowly begin zooming in as we get:
âI like buying thingsâ âGo on,â âI like owning themâŚI like looking at themâ âYouâre a collector then?â âI guess soâ âOf what?â âAll kinds of things, things that make me feel something.â
One of the goals this episode set out to achieve was to create a parallel between Aaron and V, to show just how similar they can be. They are not reflections however, as we will see later on in the episode.
And here V reaches an understanding, she knows exactly what it is he wants. Whereas at first she had assumed he wanted to sleep with her, she now sees he just wants to observe, it is the only thing he craves.
âLets go out and see something, thatâs something we can do.â
And so, V begins to perform.
At Vâs apartment:
âCancel what Iâve been through and now Iâm changing my world and now Iâm changing my worldâŚâ
The song continues to play as V listens to Eveâs voicemails, smiling like the smitten dork that she is. And this is telling because V really is changing her world. Sheâs feeling for the first time, she is exhibiting behaviors she never has before, she feels compelled to do things for someone else, she is learning to control her impulses, she is trying to understand the concept of honestyâŚshe is somewhere much different than where she was back in that opening scene, mimicking behavior before dropping ice cream on a little girl after having murdered an old man in Vienna without knowing why she was getting paid to do so.
And then:
Worried Iâve been murdered? Me? Worldâs deadliest assassin?
Yeah, really, worried, murdered, all of it. I see people saying this was funny cause, come on, Eveâs just being awkward. But no. I think this is very honest of Eve, she really does worry about V, we see this when she talks to Martin too. She mightâve gone along and spoken to Martin about herself, but she means it when she says she worries about V and her well-being. And this must be strange for both of them, I mean look at Vâs face. No oneâs worried for her before, hell, they pay her to put herself in these situations in the first place. Sheâs a weapon, its what she does. But here is Eve calling her 9 times, leaving 3 voice mails, sounding anxious and then forcefully collected, wondering if V is okay. Just wanting to hear her voice and be sure sheâs safe. And though new and strange, well:
Itâs also nice.
At Carolynâs:
âYou werenât listening?â âNot this time, no.â And she says this with a straight back, head held high; someoneâs proud.
âWhatâs her state of mind? âShe is excitedâ
Konstantin cutting Eve off here, Iâm sure Eve wouldnât have said that to Carolyn if she had had the chance to answer, which he probably knew. âHave you been razzing her up, Eve?â âRazzing?â âIâm counting on you to keep her calm.â Interesting choice of word here, indeed. Have you been teasing her Eve? Teasing? Carolyn didnât even have to think, it was her go to word here. And Eve is confused.
âVillanelle? Sit still?â âShe will, she just needs to think that sheâs in chargeâ I mean, yes, which is something Konstantin hasnât quite figured out how to manage in his years with her, but also, no. Did ya catch him looking at Eve when she says this? This would work if Eve wasnât actually falling for our dear V, so while sheâs right in theory sheâs wrong in practice. V is a master manipulator, I donât think sheâs quite gotten that yet.
Its interesting to me how Eve is okay with the concept of a team up until Konstantin say he can âsuperviseâ. Sheâs more than okay leading a group, but having someone above her? Not interested. Honestly, this plays into her own psyche, as she believes herself to be more capable than others.
âDonât forget what she did to Anna.â
You mean, nothing? V thought she loved Anna, and while her courting method sucked, she never actually hurt the woman. Sure, she isolated and pursued her, hoping her fixation would be reciprocated but she didnât pose an actual threat to her even after she was rejected. But the thing is, Eve has shown to respond to Vâs courting: sheâs thrilled by Vâs kills, she gets a high from the little messages V leaves her, she becomes aroused by the adrenaline she feels when V imposes herself on her. And Carolyn knows this: âWell, maybe you do need a bag man, take Hugo.â
Storage unit:
âYouâre a hoarderâ / âYouâre a collector, then?â
Eve has a type, with one huge difference: V likes to look at them, Niko just likes to keep them. âI like owning themâŚI like looking at them.â Niko only owns; he only keeps Eve. Sure, he claims to love her, but only the parts of her he deems appropriate. He likes to keep her, but heâs not an active participant in her life, barely even for sex. He likes to go to Bingo night, come home, have Indian food, and read a book before falling asleep with the certainty that Eve will be there to do it all over again tomorrow. But V? She wants Eve in every aspect of her life: she wants to come up with intricate kills that Eve can admire, she wants to leave little hints only Eve can decipher, she wants to buy gifts in every country she visits and surprise Eve while sheâs away, she wants to pick outfits only Eve is worthy enough to see her in, she wants to learn how to do things that are innately difficult for her because they matter to Eve. She wants to look at her, yes, and interact with her too, as weâll see later on in the episode.
Boy, do I love cocky Villanelle. Asking for a thank you, bless, rub it in his face some more. And then her face when she says âEve likes it, soâŚâ As if âmy baby likes it so of course Iâm going to hold you at knife point and demand you tell me how to make it cause, trust me, Iâve tried and itâs just not worthy of Eve at all. Oh, Worcester sauce? Of course!â I mean itâs such an âduh of course, absolutelyâ moment. Eve likes it. Thatâs all the reason she needs to be doing this. Eve.
At Carolynâs:
âAny escalation? Increased attention-seeking, recklessness?â A chuckle and a no for V and then âHow about you?â Sadly, weâre interrupted by Kenny, but we know the answer. For one, the answer for both is a resounding yes. I mean, as theyâre speaking V is in a storage unit interrogating Niko and Gemma about Shepherdâs Pie, for godâs sake. But also, that very morning Eve was sitting on Vâs bed, leaning into her, dancing around words, trying to figure out if V also feels something for her before storming out after finding out she slept with 2 other women.
She mustnât kill anyone but ya know, there goes Gemma lol
Back at the storage unit:
âDo you love Eve?â Cue the trembling voice, because this is the question that matters. I know some may wonder why Niko didnât lie but letâs be honest, V wouldâve known and that wouldâve been worse.
âOf course Iâm sure, sheâs my wife.â I HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THIS SENTENCE. Niko knows V knows Eveâs his wife, sheâs still asking him if heâs sure, this response only serves to establish his territory. Being married to someone isnât a guarantor of love. V doesnât care so much that Eve is married as much as them being in love. Itâs also a lazy answer, why are you sure Niko? Thereâre so many aspects you canât stand about Eve, why are you so sure you love her? Cause of a paper you signed years ago? Do better.
âBut Eve would never forgive me if I hurt you, Niko.â
Ugh, that delivery! The tremble at the âmeâ the emphasis on that âyouâ. V knows that as long as Niko chose Eve there would be a possibility of them getting back together, she was so willing to let them both go if he only said he loved Gemma, because Eve wouldnât be able to forgive him loving someone else. But as long as he still loves her, as long as he feels comfortable enough calling her his wife, well, V feels like her place in Eveâs life is a fragile one.
âBut Eve would never forgive meâŚâ What is Vâs concept of herself? What makes up her image of âmeâ? A murderer, a liar, a deceiver, someone who doesnât understand the concept of honesty, someone who sleeps with other people to redirect her desire for her, someone whoâs been impossible to love as far as she knows, someone who canât settle and build a home, someone damaged. Her concept of âselfâ (or ego in psychology) is as fragile as her voice here. Why would she forgive her? Of course she wouldnât.
ââŚif I hurt you, Niko.â You, her husband, the person sheâs spent most of her life with, build a home with, someone who understands the concept of honesty to the point of risking their life when threatened by one of the deadliest assassins in the world, someone who she comes back to even though he drives her crazy sometimes, someone who makes her feel empty yet she still willingly shares a bed with.
Why would she forgive me if I took her concept of safety away? She wouldnât.
And this level of self-awareness? Itâs outstanding. Villanelle has gone from the overt narcissistic psychopathic murderer with APD to someone who questions her worth. V is a narcissist through and through and yet â AND YET â has now reached the ability to question her self-worth and her past decision-making. Talk about a character arc, my god, this is monumental. She could have very well killed Niko here, considering he poses a possible threat to her courtship of Eve, but making the decision to kill Gemma instead shows her ability to understand that that is not how people work. When she did this with Anna she though that by removing Max she would have what she wants, but now she refuses to make that same mistake even though sheâd love to kill Niko. For one, she manages to frame him, punish him for straying from Eve (which, how dare he), and shows growth. I mean yes, is this a tactic to get to Eve? Sure, it lets Niko know that as long as he chooses Eve he will have to deal with V because she isnât planning on going anywhere. But also, it shows how much she cares about Eve to place Eveâs feelings before her own urges. It is, perhaps, one of her biggest gestures of love so far.
At Vâs:
âMaybe weâre soulmates.â Okay, so Iâm not interested in Vâs little joke as much as her ability to use the concept adequately. The woman whoâs struggling with the concept of honesty is able to understand and apply the concept of soulmates. This caught my attention because if she can understand what the implications of that word are and if she can apply it for comedic value, then she can do this in the privacy of her own heart and mind as well. So then, does she think Eve is her soulmate? Sheâs already used the term âusâ with Eve before, is this also something sheâs considered? Does she really consider Aaron her soulmate or is this really just a joke?
The little eye-roll when asked if sheâs planning something, her smile at the concept of being alone with Eve, giddy like a schoolgirl. I think this concept of soulmates might be more real to V than weâre being shown just yet.
Martinâs:
âHe could kill the shit out of meâ Eve, you truly identify the best with those who arenât psychologically stable, huh?
âArenât they already [out of hand], putting a psychopath, possibly two, in a high-risk situation, and justâŚhoping for the best?â This is LITERALLY a summary of Killing Eve, folks. Thatâs it, thatâs the show, we can all go home.
âI want her to be safe.â âSounds like she can take care of herselfâ âNo, she canâtâ
Eve is doing two things here: 1. Speaking of herself through V, which Martin notices, and weâll go into in a sec 2. Being honest.
Weâll see more of this throughout the episode, Eve goes through great lengths to make sure sheâs sure V will not be harmed. She really does want V to be ok and the only safety she can provide is physical safety. She has yet to figure out Vâs emotions, which she only just learned this morning exist, so what she can do to care for V is to make sure sheâs safe. Eve worries for one of the worldâs deadliest assassins, how endearing.
Now, Martin dismisses this second point mostly because heâs ignorant to what weâre privy to as the audience, and he also ignores her dismissal at being here for a âwork thingâ and thatâs when we get:
âHow much of the day do you pend thinking about her? âMost of itâ âAre you two in a relationship?â âDefine relationship.â âAre you having sex?â âNoâ The mistake Eve and some of us as viewers might make here is assume that âare you having sex?â is a question used to clarify Eveâs âdefine relationshipâ when it isnât, itâs its own question. If Martin is as good as weâre led to believe he will notice how telling it is that Eveâs answer to âare you two in a relationship?â is âdefine relationship.â If the dynamic Eve and V have now is so complex and intertwined that the boundaries that define what a relationship is have been blurred then itâs safe to say that yes, they are in fact in one. Whatever the terms of it might be have yet to be established but a mental health professional must recognize that once these concepts require situational specification then weâre in trouble. Martin uses Eveâs request for clarification as a way to find out how intimate and safe they feel with one another at this time, because having sex would require them both to finally let their guards down with each other completely.
However, this may also give Eve the false idea that as long as they donât have sex she hasnât fully surrendered herself to her attraction to V. To Eve, as long as she can say she hasnât slept with her, then no one can say sheâs in too deep, as long as she doesnât sleep with her she can keep crossing every line there is. And thatâs simply not true, of course. Villanelle knows this though, she knows that sex is something Eve will not simply allow nonchalantly, she knows itâs not something she can charm her way into. She canât just flirt with Eve, arouse her, and lead her to her bed, because Eve doesnât work like that. Eve needs to bring down her walls on her own, on her own terms, at her own time. So yeah, V is definitely playing her cards in just the right way to get closer to Eve, but ultimately Eve will be the one who has to cross that threshold. @lesbianmoonlobster and I have previously spoken about my theory of The Threshold, for lack of a better term. Iâve mentioned to them how, if PWB was still writing, Iâd be skeptical of Eveâs capacity to kill someone until next season, but now with Emerald, it has become clear that weâre driving at a faster speed, turning this into a possibility. At the very least, I do believe that Eve will reach a threshold this season and that, regardless of what form it takes, it will cause Eveâs grey morality to get a shade or two darker. My point is here, that V is playing her role in slowly coaxing Eve into her bed. âHow are things at home?â âMy husband left me.â âAre you behaving differently, doing things you normally wouldnât?â âYesâ A vocal tremble on that âyesâ âDo you feel unsafe?â âYeahâ A whispered response. âHow else do you feel right now?â âI feelâŚwide awake.â Cue teary eyes.
The way I observe this part? âbehaving differentlyâ = subway man, using Niko, etc âunsafeâ = herself âwide awakeâ = a realization A lot of people have mentioned how âbitchyâ or cold Eve has been acting with V despite Vâs attempts at casual get-to-knows (for lack of a better term) but part of this, Iâm sure, has to do with Eve realizing that yeah, sheâs very much like V. Sheâs scared of herself, of the things that she does, of how much she enjoys them and how much more she wants to do. But boy, does she feel revitalized â does she feel more herself.
âI recommended that you be taken off this operation, I said you were too involved and too compromised, but my recommendation was ignored.â
Eveâs eyes search, her tears begin to gather, she ponders.
âIâm telling you for your own safety.â
She looks up, she leaves.
This part, to me, is her moment of confirmation. Hearing Martin reveal what he had observed in their previous meeting, a professional, and expert, affirming that yes, youâre at risk of plunging into the very thing youâre dreading, only serves to confirm Eve of her realization. Perhaps even encourages her to continue on that path.
At the restaurant:
Number of things going on here but one Iâm leaving alone âtil its culmination point later in the episode. For one: hereâs Eve trying to keep V safe again, risking being seen and blowing their operation because the only way she can protect V is by making sure sheâs listening in so, all be damned, sheâs gonna get her a back-up mic if itâs the last thing she does.
Little bit of light teasing from Hugo before this but it does tie in nicely with the way V caresses Eveâs hand as she takes the bread:
Because V knows what this looks like, Aaron buying her things, taking her to Rome, dinner at an expensive restaurant. All things V could want without the need to kill anyone. All reasons she could be charmed by Aaron, so yeah, sheâs going to reassure Eve. Also, such a cute little way of saying âthe creation of Eveâ considering V has been the catalyst, or god in this sense, which has spurred Eveâs change. Except their hands are touching, unlike in the painting, implying theyâre equals, Eve becoming in Vâs likeness.
Cut to Eveâs hotel room:
âSheâs having a great time.â Someoneâs jealous. Someoneâs doubtful. Despite Vâs reassurance, the possibility of V finding someone else who watches her (âdo you like to watch her or do you like being watch?â) scares Eve.
âI knew she wouldnât let me down.â Oh boy, Eve. Development of trust, thatâs a biggie (understatement of the year, worthy of a complete essay). Eve believes in V, she trusts her, she counts on her. The woman she professed sheâd find what she loves and destroy it, the woman she stabbed, all of a sudden is worthy of her trust.
Also, V choosing One Way or Another? Subtle V, real subtle.
With Aaron:
âYouâll be bored stiffâ âIâll be fineâ âYouâll be boredâ âOk, Iâll be boredâ âGoodâ
Remember how I said Aaron would be worthy of a diagnosis if I cared enough about his character beyond his relation to V? Weâve reached that point. The beautiful thing that the show has been trying to do this entire episode is reaching itâs culmination point.
Aaron doesnât only function as a parallel but also helps create a spectrum for the viewers. It is no longer just grey morality, itâs no longer just a psychopath, a dysfunctional MI6 agent with failed marriages, and a possible sociopath. Now itâs a spectrum because now we have that absolute black, or, as Aaron describes later, that âvoidâ. Now we can line them all up.
Does that stare look familiar?
The very thing Aaron wants to see in V is what she once was, what he is: devoid of expression, devoid of her ability to interact with others in the manner she has now achieved.
âTheyâre both cold-blooded psychopathsâŚâ âSheâs just doing her jobâ
Well Hugo is right about one thing, as far as weâre shown, and as far as the show wants us to believe, they are both candidates for an Antisocial Personality Disorder diagnosis, albeit they fall in different categories. And Eve, though she may be basing her answer on her feelings, is right about her observation. Ultimately, V and Aaron would not function well together as they both have different needs and different understandings of the world, which weâll see later on.
Russian meeting:
ââŚall this information is yours.â
âLanguage is information and information is everything.â
Look at Vâs smile, she likes the sound of having access to all of this. Canât blame her, really, itâs what sheâs been lead to believe ever since The Twelve broke her out of prison, itâs the only way of life thatâs really worked for her.
After:
IâŚlove this scene.
âI told you youâd be boredâ
Oh, but she wasnât Aaron, she was thrilled.
What follows is, similarly to Eve, Vâs own revelation.
âYouâre the only person in the world I know nothing about. Nothing real. A void.â âThatâs meâ âI thought so, me too.â
But letâs look at Vâs response:
She says it with so much certainty, the only thing sheâs ever been really sure of. Everywhere she goes itâs all anyone perceives her as:
âYou should never tell a psychopath theyâre a psychopath, it upsets them.â
All sheâs ever been told is how unstable, how cold, how different she is from everyone around her. So yeah, she sees herself as a void, weâve established that V has gained a sense of self-awareness this season.
But Aaron is not privy to her development, he does not know that much of where Vâs statement is coming from is no longer sound, and so he misidentifies himself with her.
And I say misidentifies because:
âDo you ever get lonely?â âNeverâ Because V does! V gets lonely, she gets bored, she craves attention and gratification. Loneliness, in particular, is something she mostly feels when away from the object of her fixation, now affection, such as Anna, Nadia, and now Eve. âYou donât want toâŚtalk to themâŚtouch them, sleep with them? âGod, no.â âDo you?â âYeah! I do, all the time.â She is so animated here, so surprised. Consciously or not, V seems to have formed this idea that she and Aaron were the same side of the same coin. âSoulmatesâ if you will. Cut of the same threat, both loving money, loving items, loving to watch. Both willing to discard people when theyâre bored, both doing anything to pass the time, both valuing information, seeing those around them as less than. But here, this monumental difference. This desire to create connections and relationships with others, to not only watch but to engage in what we refer to as play in psychology. This is Vâs revelation: they are not the same, she is capable of so much more than sheâs allowed herself to believe.
Look at that smile!
What the show achieves here is the establishment of a spectrum for all of their characters. Something that shows who wish to portray psychopaths often do is create this robot-like person who is most often a sadist who lies and cheats and is the epitome of all things immoral and evil. Psychopathy is just a symptom of people who fall in cluster B personality disorders, often a mix of APD with a few others. Something Iâve mentioned before is how some psychologists have theorized that APD patients can actually feel emotions but often struggle with actively feeling them or identifying them because they feel them much more fleetingly or to a much lesser degree than most people. There is no exact depiction of a psychopath or APD patient because there is no one way in which this disorder presents itself, it is a spectrum. And here we see this established, we see Aaron as the one who can only function through I-it relationships, whereas for V there is an I-you, however mild and chaotic. And this revelation to her is a doorway; it opens up so many possibilities that she may now have the strength to aim for, particularly Eve because, all of a sudden, there is validity in her desire for their connection.
And who knows that now?
THAT scene:
It was sexy, I know. I wonât take the sexy away but I do want to point out a few things here:
1. Eve making sure her girl â I mean V â is safe, again. Sheâs ready and willing to listen all night if she has to. Whether itâs because the last time she left her alone V slept with 2 chicks or because extreme-end-of-the-spectrum-psychopath Aaron is around, Eve is making absolutely certain sheâs there should V need her.
2. Remember that relationship/sex question from Martin? The way Eve deflected by asking him to define ârelationshipâ? Remember how I said she might fool herself into thinking that as long as she doesnât sleep with V theyâre not together, she hasnât gone too far? Eve is so close to crossing her own blurred line. V is more than aware of just how far she can push Eve, just how to inch her closer little by little over that line. Notice the progression here: Eveâs sexual drive revived with the arrival of V in her life, of course, but notice the way it has escalated over time. At first it was the excitement of her new job, the gifts V sent her, the thrill of danger, the flowers at her doorstep, Niko angered by Vâs presence, and now V pleasuring herself. It began by situations, then items, then their dynamic, Vâs show of affection, V vicariously through Niko, and now its her on own voice. Sheâs been easing her way into Eveâs bed, slowly fixing herself as the object of Eveâs desire. Eve has begun to embrace this longing; she did not put up a fight the moment she realized V was ready and willing to spend the night with her through Hugoâs body. Eve understood that she too has been with others without being with them. And does she care?
Not one bit. Not as long as she gets to wake up hearing Villanelleâs voice, it seems.
Good for them.
#killing eve#villanelle#eve polastri#villaneve#this is really really really long i know i'm so sorry#thanks to all the encouraging folks who kept me company while writing this#shout out to lesbianmoonlobster as well for being awesome

Books âReadâ in 2019
I am going to rank these by how much i enjoyed them vs. any actual literary quality. often well written books arenât always the most entertaining books.
Note: i listen to many of these books at work, which is why i am able to go through so many of them in a year.
List from 2017 List from 2018
------- My Favs of the Year ----
Novels from The First Law:
Best Served Cold (#1), The Heroes(#3), Red Country(#4), Sharp Ends(#5).
A Little Hatred (#2) (Age of Madness, sequel to The First Law)
I read âThe First Law Trilogyâ about a year or two ago and finally got around to reading the rest of the books, just in time for a new series taking place in the same world to start up (Age of Madness) and now i am waiting like everybody else for the next two books to come out in 2020 and 2021. A Little Hatred shouldnât be read as a stand alone, a lot of what goes on is dependent mainly on knowledge from the first trilogy and in The Heroes, then bits and pieces from Best Served Cold and Red Country. So much of your enjoyment of each book is based on what youâve learned in other ones (character development or seemingly useless information being not so useless later).
Age of Legend (Book 4, Legend of the First Empire)
This is more-or-less an âaftermathâ book where the main characters are still reeling about what happened in the previous book and are trying to make plans for what they are going to do next. I still like the characters and the world/setting it takes place in.
House of Assassins (Saga of the Forgotten Warrior, Book 2)
Iâve been waiting for the next book in this series to come out the second i finished the first book in the series. It is one of those Science fiction in the disguise of Fantasy settings and I am on the edge of my seat waiting to see how that plot/revelation comes out (I am certain that the location the story takes place is Earth, more specifically around Asia/India, but in a post-invasion apocalypse setting where nobody remembers anything prior to the invasion). I also really like how much of a badass Ashok is... i have a thing for emotionally stunted badass characters, especially when their flaws are held up to a mirror and have real consequences.
R. R. Haywoodâs Worldship Humility & Extinct (Extracted, Book 3)
I love the way Haywood writes characters and dialog. I was at-first iffy about WSH, but was won over after i warmed up to the new characters.
Shades of Magic Trilogy (A Darker Shade of Magic, A Gathering of Shadows, A Conjuring of Shadows)
Solid multi-verse and magic system world. Well-written characters, some minor nitpicks on plot points, but can be easily ignored. LGBTQ rep, the gays donât stay buried.
âDonât you have enough [knives]?â âYou can never have too many.â [me, every time: LOL]
One of the few times when a character deserves a redemption arc, doesnât really get one, dies, and i am perfectly fine with it because it is done well.
Assassinâs Fate (Fitz and the Fool, Book 3)
I read this one in book-book form, but i already knew most of the emotionally painful parts of the book by spoiling it to myself when it first came out a couple years ago. The main appeal is the inner monologues of the two main characters, even if like 50% of this trilogy is basically spending weeks/months trying to go from Point A to Point B, when many other books would have glossed over the details of travel.. but you can really feel the stress as they dwell in their thoughts and struggles.
Madeline Millerâs The Song of Achilles & Circe
Re-Imagining of the Iliad and The Odyssey. Focusing not on the characters of Achilles or Odysseus, but on Petroclus (Achillesâ lover) and Circe the sea nymph witch that Odysseus had an affair and child with.
The Spear of the Stars (Cycle of Galand, Book 5)
Still love Dante and Bleys... This is where they really get into the meat of world building and solving the mysteries of the Arawn Cycle (the book/bible) and peel back the layers of their reality.
Dust (Silo Book 3)
A great ending to a good series, it answers whether or not humanity can or has survived what had caused them to be locked away in the silos.
Blackthorn and Grim (Dreamerâs Pool, Tower of Thorns, Den of Wolves)
I like the premise of the books, the two main characters first seeking out revenge, but end up wanting to become better people due to magic shenanigans.... One part Fantasy, One Part Mystery, One Part Lovestory.
The Dispatcher (Audible Free Book)
I want a whole series based off this novella. It is John Scalzi so he can write a good story. I had previously read Androidâs Dream by him, which it didnât make it into my top-10 that year, but was still decent, even if the subject matter was a bit gross... The Dispatcher world is a Sci-Fi Noir, not quite Cyberpunk, where people donât die by anything other than natural causes. The Dispatcherâs job is to kill people before something goes does wrong and the person âresetsâ to when they where safe and sound.
---- this is the âAbove Averageâ Zone ----
All the Pretty Horses & Blood Meridian: Or the Evening Redness in the West
The master of bleak and depressing fiction. if regular Dark Fiction isnât enough for you.... there is Cormac McCarthy books. Get use to the âpurple proseâ that fills up pages with no dialog.
The Golem and the Jinni
Supernatural world of the far past dealing with Edwardian New York and Immigration. It not only is a âfish out of waterâ story of the two main characters trying to fit in with society but they are among communities that are also new to America and trying to find their own place in the world. There are love subplots but most of those kind of fizzle out.
The Axe and the Throne: Bounds of Redemption Vol. 1.
âDiscount First Lawâ book... it is lacking the dark humor that made TFL series far more entertaining. This was also the book that was prefaced by warning people about how grim and dark the setting was... Hahahaha. I still found it entertaining none the less, and hope the rest would show up on audible soon.
Black Snow, White Crow (Audible Free Book)
Another one of those short stories that should have a larger saga to its name. Fantasy Industrial Punk. It has the whole equality role reversal thing going on, it isnât done quite as well as Left Hand of Darkness (but that book leaned onto the boring side of things).
Stephen Kingâs IT, Pet Semetary, and Carrie
Itâs Stephen King. Classic King. Not much else to say.
Watership Down
Depressing Rabbit Book. Though I did like all the stories and mythology the rabbits had.
Bloody Acquisitions (Fred the Vampire Accountant, Book 3)
A series that is always fun to listen to. I wish the audio books were cheaper because they are rather short.
Lethal White (Cormoran Strike, Book 4)
shuddup, i donât care if it is Rowling... i have a low-key crush on Cormoran.... he just hits that big-burly tragic-backstory man-shaped soft-spot of mine. These stories are also her âfor adultsâ writings so... expect more racism and garbage values.
The Eye of the World (Book 1, Wheel of Time)
Classic set up to a long running series, though i am reluctant to go further as the middling books in this series are said to drag out the story too much.... Itâs not as self-centered as Wizardâs First Rule and the characters are more relatable and stick to their fantasy tropes. This is the âmoldâ that other modern fantasy try to subvert by going âdarker and edgier.â
The Exorcist
If you like the movie, read the book. There is a lot of back story that the movie wasnât able to adapt.
---- This is the âAVERAGE, but Still Goodâ Zone ---
The Iliad and The Odyssey
Classics. I am still on the hunt for an unabridged version of Jason and the Argonauts story. I also have Virgilâs Aeneid in my wishlist to get too soon.
Phillipa Gregoryâs Plantagonate Novels (The Lady of the Rivers, The Red Queen, White Queen, The Kingmakerâs Daughter)
Sometimes it is like reading the same book 5x in a row. other times you end up not liking the previous protagonist in a book you just finished reading because of how the current protagonist sees them from their POV.
Return of the King (Lord of the Rings, Book 3)
Read the other books last year and didnât get around to this one for a few months.
Something Wicked This Way Comes
Fuck... Iâm a janitor... why canât i afford a house? If you liked Stephen Kingâs âITâ go back and read this book.
Alien Franchise Dramatizations: Alien: Sea of Sorrows, Alien: The Cold Forge (Audible Free Book) Alien III (Audible Free Book)
I donât mind that they all are done with a full cast. Though often I end up wanting to find the actual book and listen to them with just one narrator and descriptions.
The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe (Narnia, Book 1)
I would like to get the rest of the books in this series, but for books that are only 5-7 hours long they want 20$ a book for them. It needs to go into an omnibus.
Stephen Fryâs Victorian Secrets (Audible Free Book)
Itâs Stephen Fry... heâs funny and a good narrator.
Wizardâs First Rule (Book 1, Sword of Truth)
I donât like Richard. He started off alright, but even before he got tortured 2/3rds into the book, i was starting to dislike his personality. Other than that, the side characters and world are solid, but it was like taking an R-rated movie and cutting it down for TV. There is somethings that are vaguely described when i am use to harder fiction like ASoIaF, The First Law, Dresden, and McCarthy books actually describing those things.
Halloween (2018, movie novel)
Like I said when i first read the book, it wouldâve benefited by a second re-write before being published. But, i like the movie and so I liked the book.
Don Quixote
Another classic read. I did find it hilarious that the Author spent a good chunk of the second book complaining about Fanfiction of his own book... in the 1600â˛s.
The Princess Diarist
I listened this book instead of going to see TROS. worth it.
Smoke Gets in Your eyes: And other Lessons from the Crematorium
Non-Fiction, If you want to know the ins and outs of the funeral business and get told in an informative yet non-clinical way with lots of tidbits and history facts tossed in as well as a semi-autobiographical account of the Authorâs life.
--- These Books are âAlrightâ ---
Frank L. Baumâs Wizard of Oz books
I ligit got into an argument with a 70yo man in a comic book shop about how Canon the other Oz books were post Baumâs death. He was looking for Oz comic books and I brought up reading the first 14 books, and heâs like âThereâs over 100 of themâ and i was all âbut all those are written by somebody else.â and he got all âthey are still canon...â
The Hunchback of Notre Dame
If you want to know about the In//cel ideology in a classic literary form, this fits the bill. So much man pain.
A Christmas Carol (Tim Curry) (Audible Free Book)
Tim Curry, guys.....
The Poetic Edda (Norse God Mythology)
I listened this book twice. I bought two Edda books thinking Iâd get some extra content, but no... same book just different production teams and readers. Returned the one with the worst translation.
Treasure Island (Audible Free Book, dramatization)
I need to read the actual book sometime, but i did like the cast and thought they did a good job.
Wally Roux, Quantum Mechanic (Audible Free Book)
A YA coming of age story about diversity and acceptance... with wacky science fiction.
Carmilla (Audible Free Book, dramatization)
The vampire before Dracula. Victorian Lesbian love story.
Even Tree Nymphs get the Blues (Audible Free Book)
A novella from one of those âlove on the Bayouâ romance series with supernatural creatures. Could practically take place in the same world of either True Blood, Dresden, or Fred the Vampire Accountant.
Mystwick School of Musicraft (Audible Free Book)
Harry Potter lite. For 10yo girls.
A Grown-upâs Guide to Dinosaurs (Audible Free Book)
I like dinosaurs.
Rivals! Frenemies Who Changed the World (Audible Free Book, Dramatization)
Interesting way on telling us about the Fossil Wars and Puma vs. Adidas.
True-Crime from Audible: Body of Proof (Audible Free Book), Midnight Son (Audible Free Book), The Demon Next Door (Audible Free Book), Killer By Nature (Audible Free Book)
Why is True-Crime or YA fiction the only halfway-decent things Audible is giving us? But yeah, these are basically the type of reporting that the two journalists from Halloween were trying to do. Where they go around and gather up information about semi-famous cases and present it in a Podcast-like format.
---- Meh... ---
Camp Red Moon (Audible Free Book)
Wouldâve been better if they were actually written by R. L. Stein.
More Bedtime Stories for Cynics (Audible Free Book)
No... half of these arenât written very well.
The Darkwater Bride (Audible Free Book, Dramatization)
The setting is nice, but it is far too .... Soap Opera Dramatic.
Junk (Audible Free Book)
A cross between Alien Invasion and Zombie outbreak, read by John Waters and written as if it was a bad version of a Philip K. Dick Novel.
Rip Off!! (Audible Free Book)
Most of them are duds and boring. I donât even remember half of them without having to look them up. The two that stood out the most for me where the âOther Darren/Bewitchedâ and the âDark and Stormy Nightâ stories, the rest were rather garbled.
--- Garbage... ---
Dodge and Twist (Audible Free Book, Dramatization)
No, you are not being edgy or kool.
Unread:
Siege Tactics (Spells, Swords, & Stealth. Book 4)
Triumphant (Genesis Fleet, Book 3)
Earthsea (Tehanu and Tales from Earthsea, i am going to re-listen to the first three before i get to these)

Twenty-eight books read in 2019. Sixteen longlisted books. One person who wastes his time writing sh*t as if they really matter.
Here it is. The best books I read in the past year.
HONORABLE MENTIONS
The unfortunate books that I had to let go since I only had ten spots to fill.
Turtles All the Way Down by John Green (2017)
Murder on the Orient Express by Agatha Christie (1934)
History Is All You Left Me by Adam Silvera (2017)
The Murder of Roger Ackroyd by Agatha Christie (1926)
Bird by Bird by Anne Lammott (1994)
The Silkworm by Robert Galbraith (2014)
*Ratings range from 1 to 5, with 5 being the highest

10th Place
56 by Bob Ong (2018)
Rating: 4.300
Bob Ong makes a comeback on my list with his latest novel. His other book, Si, ranked 10th last 2015. This is the second time a Filipino book enters the list and is also the second nonfiction book everâafter Into the Wild last 2016.
In his latest release, Ong returns to the writing style that made him famousâ reminiscent of his earlier books like ABNKKBSNPLAko. 56 is like a 300-page commentary or editorial about the issues of the present Filipino generation.
Other readers have found the book a little too preachy. I find it enlightening as it serves as a wake-up call to the Filipinos who are turning their blindsides to the harsh realities of our nation.
ââââ â ââââ
9th Place
Mga Kirot ng Kapalaran (Kikomachine Komix blg. 11) by Manix Abrera (2015)
Rating: 4.445
This is a long-overdue recognition to my favorite comic strip artist (Fun Fact: I met him quite a few times already). For many years, I've ignored the chance to even put his works in the list of contenders. I'm not throwing it away again. Now, I have my first book to enter the top 10 classified under comics and graphic novels.
In this collection of strips by Manix Abrera, his work remains as humorous and as satirically laughable as the first time I saw his comic. Themes have changed to reflect the new trends and issues of our present society.
For as long as Manix draws and publishes his work, I will continue to read them as I know he gives an intellectual yet amusing input to our society's problems.
ââââ â ââââ
8th Place
Mga Batang Poz by Segundo Matias, Jr. (2018)
Rating: 4.450
âBeautiful and relevant, but not flawless,â this is what I said on my review for this YA novel.
Mga Batang Poz is the third Filipino book on this list. Having three books on the list is a first. Furthermore, this is also the first time in four years that a Filipino book enters the list.
As previously mentioned, I have certain problems with regard to the overarching narrative of the novel. I wish that Matias couldâve written something more elaborate or something that doesnât feel forced.
Nevertheless, the book accomplishes its goal of being a story that advocates HIV awareness, especially towards the youth.
ââââ â ââââ
7th Place
The One and Only Ivan by Katherine Applegate (2012)
Rating: 4.485
In this book, you'll see both the cruelty and the compassion of humanity through the eyes of a gorilla named Ivan who is the narrator of the story.
Ivan is based on a real-life gorilla who was being used as a live animal attraction in Zoo Atlanta.
It is quite obvious that the book is meant for a younger audience, but despite this, I know anyone of any age will be able to appreciate it. Ivan is a gorilla after all, and I think the simplicity of how it was written suits his character, making the tone of the story more natural.
Overall, it was very touching. Although it mirrors pretty much what happened to the real-life Ivan, it efficiently delivers its message for animal welfare.
ââââ â ââââ
6th Place
And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie (1939)
Rating: 4.525
This is a mystery novel filled with suspense and everything that'll make you love and hate it at the same time. The horror it gives chills you to the bone for every page you turn.
Agatha Christie is insaneâand I mean that in a good way. The plot was so well-thought out that even when nearing at the end, I had no clue who the culprit was. When it was revealed to me, I was like, âYeah. That makes absolute f*cking sense.â
For a book that has ten major characters, it does well in handling them. You know when a piece of literature is brilliantly made when even if its length isnât considerably long, it doesnât sacrifice the charactersâ backgrounds and the narrative of the story.
Despite the novelâs inhumane and despicable acts, it also addresses issues about criminal injustices that are still prevalent today. In our country alone, criminalsâcorrupt officials, master drug dealers, rapists, murderersâare still roaming around the streets, evading the consequences of their actions. At times when the law is not enforced properly, people resort to their own type of justice.

5th Place
Darius the Great Is Not Okay by Adib Khorram (2018)
Rating: 4.590
In this debut novel by Adib Khorram, the titular character Darius suffers from clinical depression. Also, he's a Star Trek and Lord of the Rings fan.
This book demonstrates the fact that real depression is not simply cured by positive reinforcement and bible versesâas what most overly religious people think.
The novel highlights Darius' relationship with the other charactersâmost especially with Sohrab. It shows how he copes up with them while he struggles with his mental disorder.
There are also subtle hints of homosexuality, which added to the overall tension of the story since the main characters are Muslims. It wasn't blatant but it was obviously presentâin the right and necessary amount.
To me, this is a spiritual brother of Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe by Benjamin Alire SĂĄenzâone of my favorite books. It gave me the same feeling of awe, beautiful pain, and joyful nostalgia. There were parts that broke my heartâI was ugly crying while riding a busâand by the end, I was a complete mess, although I'm utterly happy.
ââââ â ââââ
4th Place
Moonrise by Sarah Crossan (2017)
Rating: 4.595
What I love most about this book is how it was written. Instead of being in paragraphs, it was written in versesâlike poetry. I thought it was creative and oddly fitting for the story.
Even though there are more blank spaces on the pages than letters, those words are enough to draw me into the story.
The novel is about Ed whose brother was up on death row. I found myself rooting for him, and I was hoping similarly to how he was hoping in the story. When the end came, I couldn't help myself from closing my eyes.
The narrative was fairly simple, it matches the way it was written. The charactersâalthough few and also written with the utmost simplicityâfeel so human and are not flat, cardboard cutouts.
In the light of all the flawed justice systems and abuses of law enforcers not just in America but everywhere else in the world, it's good to find a book that's bold enough to address such issues and an author who's brave enough to write them.
Lots of murderers are on the loose, yet there are innocent people being slaughtered for crimes they didn't commit.
ââââ â ââââ
3rd Place
On the Come Up by Angie Thomas (2018)
Rating: 4.605
Just when you thought Angie Thomas couldn't write anything as good as The Hate U Give (THUG), she gives us this. If it's not better, then it sure is as brilliant as her debut novel.
This is Thomas' second consecutive year in my list, with THUG bagging the top plum last year.
The novel is proof of Thomasâs writing prowess. It successfully immersed me into the life of her protagonist, a life filled with hope, angst, and ambition. And the dialogue⌠Especially the rap battles. They were amazing. Seeing as Thomas herself was a rapper, you can feel the ingenuity in her words.
Moreso, this is one book that we really need in our present times. It reflects all of my sentiments regarding social media and how it can make or break a person. And how much the oppressed and marginalized communities lack representation, and how they are still subject to much prejudice.
ââââ â ââââ
2nd Place
A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini (2007)
Rating: 4.680
This beautiful novel demonstrates the horror of domestic violence towards women. It also provides a glimpse of the people and culture of Afghanistan during the times of war.
I'm in love with how Khaled Hosseini's characters flesh out from the pages. You'd love them. You'd care for them. Their agony becomes yours. Their pain drips out from the corners of the books as your tears trail down your cheeks.
And on their sweet, small victories, you'd give a sigh of relief as the anxiety is slowly drained from your body.
In the two years that I've read a book by Hosseini, it didn't fail to shatter my heart. The Kite Runner ranked first in my 2017 list, and now this. If ever get to read another one of his books, I've no doubt it will also be a contender for that year's list.
ââââ â ââââ
1st Place
Thunderhead by Neal Shusterman (2018)
Rating: 4.765
This book is also up on my shelf for the best sequels everâbe it for any medium.
I read this earlier this year and it remained unbeatable until 2019 ended.
This is the second book in Neal Shusterman's Arc of a Scythe trilogy, the sequel to Scytheâwhich placed 3rd in my 2017 list.
Growth and expansion. These are the things I love about the sequel. Ronan and Citra, the two main protagonists of the trilogy, are older, wiser, and better people, despite the fact that they're teenagers. You can feel their struggles with their respective endeavors.
Also, the universe is bigger. The Arc of Scythe novels feature a world where death does not exist and everyone is biologically immortal. In order to balance the earthâs population, there are these so-called Scythes whose life-long job is to assassinate anyone they choose.
In this sequel, you get to know more about the mechanisms of their world. Thereâs a new main character, Grayson, who takes you deeper and gives you a view of what it's like to live as a normal human.
The book deals with the adverse effects of the ways power-hungry people want to achieve their ambitions.
But that's not why I went gaga after reading the book.
IT. WAS. EPIC. The plot twists within the plot twists. The narrative. And the ending. My god, that ending. I COULD HEAR MY SILENT SCREAMS. After the last page, the only thing I thought of was, "GIVE ME THE THIRD BOOK RIGHT NOW!"
Thunderhead isnât flawless, but itâs a very fine piece of literature that I recommend to anyone who loves to read.
⢠⢠⢠⢠â˘
I hope I won't regret putting Thunderhead in first place after a few years. I regret giving the top spot to I'll Give You the Sun last 2016. After pondering about the books I've read in the past years, I've found that Anthony Doerr's All the Light We Cannot See is one remarkable and memorable book, and the one I should've given the highest honors.
Books with relevant themes dominated my shelf but the book that won my heart was the one with intricate plots and a phenomenal ending. It feels weird but I hope for the best.
Happy New Year, everyone!

Inside Taylor Swift's Personal Diary Entries: Read All of the Biggest Revelations
By TomĂĄs Mier August 24, 2019

Lover of Diaries
Fans got an inside look at some of Taylor Swiftâs most personal thoughts when they bought the deluxe version of her new album, Lover.
Along with some behind-the-scenes recordings, each album featured a 30-page booklet with excerpts from her personal diaries â some even from she was just 13!
âIâve written about pretty much everything thatâs happened to me. Iâve written my original lyrics in those diaries, just feelings,â she said on an Instagram Live announcing the booklets. âItâs everything from pictures drawn, photos of that time in my life, I used to like tape stuff in my diaries.â
Here are the top 10 takeaways from her personal diary entries.

Photo: CHRISTOPHER POLK/GETTY
Swift the Lyricist
If the diary entries are filled with anything, itâs a deep dive into her song lyrics.
âRedâ was born on a long flight â and everyone she played it for loved it.
âIts [sic] so different than anything weâve done,â she wrote in 2011. âI canât even tell you how alive and worthwhile I feel when Iâm writing a new song and I finish it and people like it. Itâs the most fulfilling feeling, like getting an A+ on your report card.â
The diaries also share early versions of âAll Too Wellâ and songs like âLong Live,â âWhite Horse,â âHoly Groundâ and âThis Love.â
In a 2014 entry, she writes about the creation of her ultra-hit âShake It Off.â
âThe best way I know how to describe it is that the chorus just fell out of the sky,â she wrote in 2014.
âWe all went home and I wrote the first and second verses and brought them in the next day. We wrote this chanty cheer leader bridge that I absolutely LOVE,â she continued.
As for the album cover that would accompany âShake It Off,â she wrote that she âsaw it within 10 seconds.â
âThe craziest moment came when something caught my eye. The cover photo is photo 13. I kid you not,â she wrote about the polaroid cover to 1989, which she accompanied with a sketch.

A Glamorous Gala
In a diary entry, Swift writes about being invited to âthis event called âThe Met Gala.ââ
To an 18-year-old Swift, that day was âTHE party of the year.â
âThe paps started SCREAMING for me. It was crazy,â she wrote in May 2008. âWe made our way up the red carpet, posing for everyone. All of the women looked so glamorous in their gowns.â
Along with meeting Anna Wintour, George Clooney, Julia Roberts and Giorgio Armani at the event, she wrote that âmodels stood as decorations, standing still and wearing gorgeous gowns.â
Once inside, she lists âevery celebrity ever createdâ at the event, including Scarlett Johansson, Tom Brady, BeyoncĂŠ, Victoria Beckham, Tom Cruise and Jon Bon Jovi âwho called me over to talk to him.â

Borchetta's Beginnings
Weeks before the release of Lover, a public feud involving Swift and her old label Big Machine made headlines when the labelâs founder Scott Borchetta sold the label (and ownership of her masters) to Scooter Braun.
But years before, Swift had nothing but kind things to say about the label founder who signed her.
After meeting with Capitol Records and not being offered âthe deal I would want,â she met with Borchetta â and left with feelings of excitement.
âI really loved all the stuff he said in the meeting, and he stayed for the whole Bluebird show,â she wrote in November 2014. âAnd heâs SO passionate about this project. I think thatâs the way weâre gonna go, I want to surround myself with passionate people.â
A meeting with Borchetta also made âSparks Flyâ as she came up with the name of her second album.
âWe were talking about the record and I had this epiphany,â she wrote in April 2010. âI didnât talk in interviews about how I felt about much of what has happened in the last two years. Iâve been silent about so much that Iâm saying on this album. Itâs time to Speak Now.â
âScott freaked out. He loved it,â she wrote in April 2010. âWe have a title, ladies and gentlemen!â

"The Hunters Will Always Outnumber Me"
Swift also opens up about the lack of privacy that comes with being a celebrity â and how sheâll never get used to seeing âa group of people staring, amassed outside my house, pointing, camera phones upâŚâ
âThey could never imagine how much that feels like being hunted,â she wrote.
Swift compares her âmostly perfect lifeâ to âbeing a tiger in a wildlife enclosure.â
âItâs pretty in there, but you canât get out,â she described in the August 2013 note.
âNo matter how big my house is or how many albums I sell, Iâm still going to be the rabbit,â she added. âBecause the hunters will always outnumber me. The spectators will stand by, shaking their heads, going âthat poor girl.â But the point is, theyâre still watching. Everyone loves a good hunt.â
But her feelings about being âhuntedâ also translated into worrying about her generationâs obsession with taking photos âso that they can spend all day checking the comments underneath.â
âThey will never truly experience a moment without attempting to capture it and own it,â she wrote, comparing pulling a flower from the ground to take photos. âNevermind that picking a flower kills it, the same way taking a picture of a moment can ruin it altogether.â
Swift has notably kept comments off of her post to improve her mental health.
âIâm training my brain to not need the validation of someone telling me that I look đĽđĽđĽ,â she wrote in Elle. âIâm also blocking out anyone who might feel the need to tell me to âgo die in a hole hoâ while Iâm having my coffee at nine in the morning.â

From Fearful to "Fearless"
Though Swift is now known for her jaw-dropping stage presence, as a young singer she wrote that she would âget stage fright every time I walk onto a stage.â
âI wish it wasnât so, but I canât blame my mind for freaking out about performances,â she wrote in 2010, days before releasing Speak Now. âCriticism of my performances has been the biggest source of pain in my life.â
âI sometimes feel like my college degree is in acting like Iâm ok when Iâm not,â wrote a 20-year-old Swift.
But even as a burgeoning singer at just 13, she would get hate while on stage. During one performance, her guitar pick broke in half and fell while she was playing.
âThere was this huge silence! It was awful! I had to bend over and pick it up in front of everyone!â she wrote next to the broken pick. âAnd while I was singing, this guy was shouting stuff like, âGo on, b*#@! Sing that country bulls#*%! Go on motherfâ!.â It was awful.â

Done with Dieting
In her diaries, she also candidly writes about sticking to a diet as a teen.
Soon after Thanksgiving 2006, she returned to Nashville to her âown comfy bedâ and planned to go out to eat with her best friend Abigail Anderson during a day off.
âOh and Iâm dieting again,â she wrote right after.
âOver the holidays I didnât watch what I ate and man its [sic] so weird how fast I can gain or lose weight⌠Itâs crazy,â she ended the note. âSo Iâm going to lose some now.â
Earlier this year, she wrote about finally being okay with gaining weight.
âI learned to stop hating every ounce of fat on my body,â she wrote in Elle. âI worked hard to retrain my brain that a little extra weight means curves, shinier hair, and more energy.â
The âDaylightâ singer also said that sheâs constantly working on her body image.
âI think a lot of us push the boundaries of dieting, but taking it too far can be really dangerous. There is no quick fix,â she said. âI work on accepting my body every day.â

Photo: CHRISTOPHER POLK/GETTY IMAGES
"I'ma Let You Finish, But..."
âAhh⌠the things that can change in a weekâŚâ wrote Swift in a Sept. 18, 2009 journal entry.
Five days had passed since Kanye West crashed Swiftâs Video of the Year acceptance speech at the MTV Video Music Awards, but the whole ordeal was all she â and everyone else â could think about.
âIf you had told me that one of the biggest stars in music was going to jump up onstage and announce that he thought I shouldnât have won on live television, I wouldâve said âThat stuff doesnât really happen in real life,ââ she wrote.
âWell⌠apparentlyâŚ. It does,â she ended the note.
Little did 19-year-old Swift know that West would cause more tumult in her life seven years later. In an August 2016 note, she simply wrote, âThis summer is the apocalypse.â
The âapocalypticâ summer came when West referred to the singer as âthat bitchâin his track âFamousâ and featured a nude version of the âShake It Offâ singer in its accompanying video.
Then, Swift said she never approved of the lyric after his wife Kim Kardashianleaked a phone call conversation between the two singers.
âBeing falsely painted as a liar when I was never given the full story or played any part of the song is character assassination,â she wrote then. That âCruel Summerâ ordeal would go on to inspire her sixth album, reputation.

Photo: SPLASH NEWS
A Joe Alwyn âLove Storyâ
Like in Loverâs lyrics, Swift doesnât hold back about her deep feelings for boyfriend Joe Alwyn in her personal diary.
Clearly writing about Alwyn, the singer confessed about wanting to keep their relationship under wraps as much as possible.
âIâm essentially based in London, hiding out trying to protect us from the nasty world that just wants to ruin things,â she wrote in a January 2017 note. âWe have been together and no one has found out for 3 months now. I want it to stay that way because I donât want anything about this to change or become too complicated or intruded upon.â
âBut itâs senseless to worry about someday not being happy when I am happy now,â she concluded. âOK. Breathe.â
But Swift wasnât always so sure about love being real â especially when it came to Valentineâs Day.
âI somehow feel like itâs my destiny to roll my eyes at happy couples and resent Valentineâs Day. I also feel like Iâm the girl before âthe one.â Iâm not âthe one,ââ she wrote at 19. âIâm the girl you think is the one for you, and when it doesnât work out with me, you meet the next girl and realize she IS the one.â
And as a mere 13 year old, she imagined the first time sheâd have her first kiss â and about being âsuch a romantic.â
âI just dream about looking into someoneâs eyes and feeling something Iâve never felt before, you know?â she wrote. âI just never was able to put a face to my fantacy [sic]. But something tells me that my first kiss is really far away from happening!â

Photo: LARRY BUSACCA/WIREIMAGE
The Night Before...
Before the 2014 Grammy Awards, Swift was confident her album Red would take home the biggest award of the night.
âItâs the middle of the night and I was at the Clive Davis party tonight which means⌠the Grammys are tomorrow,â she wrote. âNever have I felt so good about our chances. Never have I wanted something so badly as I want to hear them say âRedâ is the Album of the Year.â
Though she was up for four awards that year, Swift would head home empty handed.
Though she had won that award two years prior with Fearless, it wouldnât be until her 2014 album 1989 that sheâd take home the coveted prize again. In her 13-year career, Swift has won 10 Grammys from 32 nominations.

Photo: MICHAEL LOCCISANO/FILMMAGIC
âThis Might Be Worth Money Somedayâ
Though her diary entries are filled with some insight into the more complicated times in her life, the entries also feature some cute memories of her youth â including her middle school class schedule, some song lyrics and memories about listening to Sugarland for the first time.
Accompanied by drawings and the number 13, in her first journal entry, she signs her name and writes â(That could be worth money someday!! Just kidding hehe).â
Under âJournal #1,â a 13-year-old Swift writes a poem: âThe world is as big as you make it / Never be shameful to fly / When a chance comes you should take it / May you never be scared of goodbyeâŚâ
After performing at a school talent show, Swift wrote: âI ⤠SCHOOL!â
Reminiscing on the grand day, Swift wrote, âI got a standing ovation and everything.â

The Life of The Prophet Muhammad: Exemplary Ethics of The Prophet: Compassionate: Part 2
ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY SHEEP
Abu Zura who is one of his friends serving him during some of his trips, narrates:
âIn a trip, he had made me got on his camel, too. Sometimes, the whip that he was using in order to move the camel was touching my leg and hurting me. A little while later, he became aware of the situation and asked:
O Abu Zura, is my whip also touching you? I embarrassedly answered:
âYes, O the Apostle of Allah!â
He did not say anything. A while later, we arrived at a place where the booties of war belonged to him were available. He separated one hundred and twenty sheep from there and gave them to me as a gift and said:
âO Abu Zura, these sheep are in return for my hurting you without being aware of it on the way.â
THE BELOVED OF THE LOVER
His adopted child Zayd was martyrized in the battle of Mute. On the day of the bad news arrived to Medina, the house of the martyr and his children were visited by the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). Along with the fresh sorrow of her father, the little daughter of Zayd embraced his garment and started to cry. The prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was hugging little orphans while crying. A friend near him could not help asking.
âO the Apostle of Allah! What is this?â
âThis is longing for the beloved oneâ
THE CONQUEST OF MAKKAH
He was at the peak of the part of his struggle that was limited to his own life. Now Makkah, his hometown, where he had not been allowed to convey the message of his religion to people, was being conquered by an army consisting of fully armed ten thousand Muslim soldiers, which was a super army in terms of the conditions of Arabia at that time.
The army had surrounded Makkah. It was nighttime. Makkah mountains were glittering due to the camp fires. Every soldier was ordered to make a fire and Makkah, which was dark, was surrounded by lights at night. Abu Sufyan, who was the archenemy of the Prophet, left the city and went to the Prophet with his little son; he knew the weak point of his fellow citizen.
He said, âI swear by Allah that if you do not forgive me, I will kill this child and myself.â
Abu Sufyan, who had been his archenemy for years, wanted forgiveness by using his life and the life of his son. He was forgiven.
The next day, the army started to move. Makkans were astonished and shocked by the view. Next to Hazrat Abbas, the uncle of Hazrat Muhammad, Abu Sufyan, who was the administrator of Makkah, was watching the Muslim army, which was entering Makkah. He asked Hazrat Abbas about each division and their tribe as they passed before them and he was astonished and fascinated by each answer that he received. After a while, he asked impatiently,
âHas Hazrat Muhammad not passed yet?â In the end, Hazrat Muhammad was seen on his camel, Quswa, in his armor. He bowed his head to show that one can enter a city that Allah declared to be sacred in modesty. He was in a position to praise Allah.
Meanwhile, Saâd b. Ubada, one of the commanders of Madinah, turned to Abu Sufyan and shouted:
Today is the doomsday. Today is the day of revenge for Uhud. Today is the day of ridiculing the honor of the Quraysh tribe. Today is the day of destruction.â
Hazrat Muhammad (pbuh) silenced Saâd through a sign by his hand and said,
âToday is the day of mercy and compassion. Today is the day of elevating the honor of Quraysh. Today is the day when respect to the Kaaba and Makkah will be at its peak.â
Then the Prophet gave an order and expulsed Saâd. He appointed his son as the new commander.
Very little blood was shed and Makkah surrendered. It was noon and very hot. His friends asked him,
âWhere do you want to rest, O Messenger of Allah?â
A painful smile was seen on his face. He remembered his house. However, that house had been pulled down by Aqil, his cousin, in order to make him sad and depressed. He said,
âDid Aqil leave us any place to rest?â
However, nobody thought of even touching Aqil. Aqil was given a guarantee just like the other people of Makkah. He had immunity.
However, the people of Makkah still could not believe that all kinds of oppression, cruelty, torture and enmity that they inflicted upon Muslims for years would be unreturned. In order to make sure that they would not be touched and punished, they stood before Muhammad, who had just removed the idols in the Kaaba, in front of the door of the Kaaba. They were shy and timid. Hazrat Muhammad understood very well what they meant by bowing down and keeping silent.
He said to them,
âToday, my situation is like the one between Hazrat Yusuf and his brothers. He had said to his brothers, âThis day let no reproach be (cast) on you: Allah will forgive you, and He is the Most Merciful of those who show mercy.â Today, I am saying the same thing to you. You are free.â
All Makkans became Muslims when it was the evening time. The next day, the military forces were withdrawn from the city because they were no longer needed in the city.
However, when it became clear that Makkah was going to be conquered, some people left the city and went away. They were âsevere criminalsâ, who did not know Hazrat Muhammad (pbuh) and who believed that no power of compassion and pardoning could forgive them.
One of them was Wahshi, the murderer of the uncle of Hazrat Muhammad (pbuh). He sent for Wahshi and asked him to become a Muslim. Whashi was timid. He wrote the following in his letter:
âO Muhammad! You said, âThe torture of a person who kills somebody or attributes partners with Allah is increased on the Day of Judgment; he remains in torture in a despicable state.â I did all of them. Can there still be a way of salvation for me?â
Upon this answer, the 71st verse of the chapter of al-Furqan was sent. Hazrat Muhammad (pbuh) got the verse written and sent it to Wahshi.
âUnless he repents, believes, and works righteous deeds, for Allah will change the evil of such persons into good and Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful. And whoever repents and does good has truly turned to Allah with an (acceptable) conversion.â
Wahshi did not regard it sufficient.
He said, âO Muhammad! Repentance, belief and righteous deeds are heavy conditions. I might not be able to do them.â
The 48th verse of the chapter an-Nisa answered Wahshi:
âAllah forgiveth not that partners should be set up with him; but He forgiveth anything, else to whom He pleaseth.â
Wahshi had not been convinced yet. He wrote another letter:
âO Muhammad! It means âAllah will do so if he wishesâ. I do not know whether Allah will wish something like that for me.â
Thereupon, the 53rd verse of the chapter az-Zumar was sent down:
Say: "O my Servants who have transgressed against their souls! Despair not of the Mercy of Allah: for Allah forgives all sins: for He is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful."
Wahshi said,
âNow, it is all right.â Then, he went to Makkah and became a Muslim.
People asked,
âO Messenger of Allah! Are those glad tidings for Wahshi only or for all of us?â
He answered:
âFor all of you!â
Safwan b. Umayya, who was one of the notables of Quraysh and who had sent assassins to Madinah to kill Hazrat Muhammad (pbuh) in order to take revenge of his relatives killed in Badr, had also left Makkah. Wahb b. Umayr, whom he had sent as an assassin to Madinah was sent to Safwan. Wahb had the turban of Hazrat Muhammad (pbuh) as a proof of the promise of immunity. Safwan was convinced and returned to Makkah. However, he was not ready to become a Muslim. He stood in the presence of Hazrat Muhammad (pbuh) and said,
âGive me two months. I will think about whether to accept your religion or not.â
Hazrat Muhammad (pbuh) answered,
âI will give you four months instead of two!â
Safwan became a Muslim on his own before four months passed.
The third one of those who had left Makkah was Ikrima, the son of Abu Jahl. Abu Jahl, who had been the archenemy of Islam and Hazrat Muhammad until he was killed in Badr, was described as âthe Pharaoh of this ummahâ by the Prophet. Ikrima did many things against Islam, too. Once, Hazrat Muhammad said about him, âI did not suffer from Abu Jahl as much as I suffered from his son.â
Ikrimaâs wife undertook the task of bringing Ikrima back. She found him on the coast of Yemen aboard a ship to go to Africa. She took him back to Makkah. When Hazrat Muhammad was told that Ikrima was about to enter his presence, Hazrat Muhammad warned his friends near him.
âDo not offend him by speaking against his father.â
When Ikrima arrived, the Prophet welcomed him by hugging him and saying,
âO cavalier mujahid, welcome.â He let Ikrima sit beside him. Ikrima, who was shocked by what he saw, heard and experience, made a promise.
âO Messenger of Allah! Be a witness that I will spend at least twice as much effort and money to serve your religion as I spent to prevent it.â
Ikrima kept his promise. He was one of the three mujahids that were martyred during the Battle of Yarmuk, which caused the Middle East to embrace Islam, without being able to drink a drop of water. They counted seventy sword wounds in his body.

Cloak and Dagger (Part Two)
.
âWhy?â
Thatâs what they asked me.
Itâs what I asked, too.
But when I posed myself that question, I got an answer I didnât expect.
Itâs amazing how easily it came.
I could only think:
âHow could it have been anyone else?â
My only regret is that we didnât realize our feelings sooner.
.
.
Yang closed Summerâs diary with a breathless sigh.
She just finished reading the recount of how her two mothers came to be. They were teammates, best friends⌠then after a time, enemies.
After Raven changed sides, there was no end to the reasons why Summer should have severed ties with her.
Even soâŚ
âHow could it have been anyone else?â
Yang echoed the words Summer spoke so long ago.
It touched on something, a crack in her heart that had been widening for months. Her motherâs words set something free. Her mind was made. Her doubts dispelled and her fate was decided. Yang wanted to return to Vacuo as soon as possible.
âWe have to get back to Vacuo as soon as possible!â Emerald yelled, as she and Professor Oobleck ran into the private reading room.
âWhatâs up?â Yang asked.
âMercury just sent me an encrypted text. Salemâs made her move on Vacuo.â
âCrap!â
The three made their way to the upper floors of the Tower. They ran past several piles of books, knocking them over without a second thought. It was imperative they find Papyrus.
âHow bad is it?â Yang asked.
âDonât know. Merc didnât exactly send me pics. But apparently, itâs a gigantic army of Grimm.â
âLike, Battle of Dracul?â
âProbably bigger, MUCH bigger.â
âAnd Vacuo still has their Cuckoo problem.â
âYup! Which is why, we need to haul our ass back, like, yesterday!â
âBut thatâll take days!!!â
âYou think I donât know that?!â
They stopped at the top floor and spotted the record keeper furiously writing at a study table. Oobleck picked up the latest page freshly written and read it aloud.
ââFerocious beasts bore hungry maws at what they thought was dinner! But loâ! They were caught unawares by what they thought was easy prey, was in fact an esteemed Huntsman!ââ
âIs that⌠Professor Port?â Yang pointed curiously at the document.
âYes, it appears Papyrus is recording the current events via Peterâs diary entries!â
âOh! I get it! So, you guys arranged this beforehand so you could keep tabs on current events!â
âNo, not at all. Peter just likes to write in his diary constantly.â
âIn the middle of battle?!â
âYes. Heâs very good at keeping accounts of his exploits. I often wish I had his ability to put pen to paper, irregardless of the harrowing situation!â
âUhâŚhuh.â
The three started pouring over the notes Papyrus previously wrote. In it, they found bits and details between Professor Portâs grandeur embellishments, that painted a picture of the situation.
After Temujin threw the first âgauntletâ, the forces of Grimm and Vacuo clashed. Although the Kingdomâs military had never faced such a sizable host of monsters, the battle seemed to be go in their favor. Vacuoâs warriors were well-versed in dealing with the varied species of Grimm. They also demonstrated an organization that rivaled the most disciplined armies.
âHmâŚâ Emerald glared at the most recently recorded books. âThe librarian doesnât just record Vacuoâs side either. Take a peek,â she shoved a blank covered tome in Yangâs hands. âInna and Bean are here, too.â
Yang skimmed through the information like a starved bibliophile.
âBeanâs commanding the armies⌠He wants to hunt me down⌠Adamâs here too⌠Someone named Jupiter Black? Isnât thatââ
âMercuryâs cousin and president of the douchebag assassin society.â
âThis is⌠This is Blakeâs diary.â
âYup!â Emerald shouted, while picking up another book. âWith any luck, we can figure out what the other side is planning. Meanwhile, the Professor can keep a pulse on how the battle is going.â
âBut we need to get back there now!â
âOne problem at a time, Yang! You said it yourself, itâll take days to get back! We need to play the smart game here. If we find something crucial, our messages might do more help than us actually being there.â
Yang heard the reason in Emeraldâs argument and agreed. But somewhere deep down, all she could worry about was Neo. She knew her partner could handle herself, but it wasnât enough to abate her fears. The fact that they were separated by such a distance, in such a dangerous time, drove her mind to conjure things she never wanted to see.
Yang watched Emerald shuffle through another mound of papers in frustration. Her leader wasnât as composed as her words let on. No doubt, Emerald was just as concerned about Mercury.
âAs soon as we find what Salemâs planning, weâre out of here!â Emerald shouted without looking at her.
âYeah. Yeah, alright!â
Yang dove back into the haystack of information with gusto.
Just be alright, Neo.
Please, be alright.
.
.
Neo threw her parasol into a row of Grimm, corkscrewing them all through the chest cavity. With a wave of her hand, her weapon swooped into a u-turn and flew safely back to her hands. She opened the umbrella to let out a small spray of black blood, causing her to lick her lips with a depraved look.
She gave a small inward thank you to Ruby, who made a few upgrades to her weapon.
Mercury soared above her with a number of Vacuoâs airborne fighters trailing behind. After activating his Semblance, he kicked up a sandstorm in the middle of Salemâs army. Rough debris and jagged rock wore away at the more durable species of Grimm, while lighter ones were caught up in the tornado.
Throughout the battlefield, soldiers exercised their specialized roles. If they fulfilled a long-distance position, they fought safely from the backlines. The more hands-on of the fighters took to the vanguard to face the brunt of their opposition. Some fought together, some separate. And then, there were berserkers, who traversed wildly into the chaos of being surrounded by enemies.
Chain Naiâs blue ringed skin glowed with a dark sea hue, as he clamped a Jesterâs hyena mouth between his elbow and knee. The force caused the front half of the skull to cave, but it was the warriorâs poisonous Semblance that put the creature to death.
Not too far away, a shining warrior faced a unit of Moredread knights five v. one. The monsters boasted a heavily reinforced armor composed of dense bone. Their medieval style appearance added with the giant buster blade they hefted overhead, made for daunting figures. Yet the lone fighter stood, unfazed by the challenge.
When their swords fell like a waterfall of guillotines, the man bat them away like they were sheets of cardboard. The last one, he caught in a single, gold and black gloved hand.
âCompared to Qrow and Athos, you might as well be using toy swords,â Taiyang taunted.
With a flick of his wrist, the Moredread he caught the sword of, was twisted into the air. With his free hand, he loosed a soft palm strike on the Grimmâs bony helm. The Aura infused into the technique transposed through the armor and exploded within the knightâs vulnerable brain matter. Before the corpse fell and the other four Moredread could react, Taiyang was on them.
His fingers became pointed to align with his forearm. An upward thrust sent a spear-like hand under one of the Grimmâs armpits, where the armor was weakest. The ligaments connecting the Moredreadâs limb tore like tissue paper.
With Taiyangâs hands still formed in a straight edge, he sent a chopping fist through the neck of two others.
The sword knight Grimm were classified as A-Class Grimm individually. But against a fighter of their complete counter and high caliber, five had fallen within mere moments.
Bean saw through the eyes of the dying Grimm and decided to take a different approach. His army was never meant to fight on even ground. They were meant to abuse their numbers andabuse their numbers he did.
The young boy directed a pack of fast moving Jesters Taiyangâs way and a Deathstalker towards his back. He didnât expect them to win, but sap away at the martial artistâs stamina.
Just when they reached combat distance, a rain of icy shards fell on the area, including on the man himself. Though, the attack only seemed to shatter against Taiyangâs now tattooed skin.
âHuh. Will Tai take no offense to that?â Minerva asked from a fair distance.
âHeâs used to it,â Glynda answered, before casting another icy hailstorm over a different area. âIs it me, or is this battle faring a little too easily?â
âI am of the same mind. Salem has yet to play any of her proverbial trump cards.â
âOur casualties are also low, not that Iâm complaining.â Glynda pushed up her glasses before manipulating a small herd of stampeding Goliaths and diverting their charge into its allies. âThe longer this battle goes on, the more disadvantageous our position.â
âAgreed. What do you suggest?â
âIâve been trying to discern where the commander of this army is located.â
Another group of Grimm rushed their position, but Glynda levitated them into the air, while Minerva waved her wand to cause an explosion, incinerating them into pieces.
âGoing by the way the Grimm are directed, I can only assume whoever is in control, is commanding them from there!â Glynda pointed her riding crop.
Minerva paid attention to the direction and saw a number of Grimm waiting on standby. Some would now and then, breakaway for a maneuver, but were swiftly replaced. The behavior was almost unnoticeable in all the chaos.
âSo, we will have our troops advance there.â
âNo,â Glynda shook her head. âThereâs too much ground to cover and theyâll see us approaching almost immediately. If we can take them by surprise, we stand a chance at ending this battle prematurely.â
ââŚIâm not fond of the tone your suggestion is takingâŚâ
âMy Magic has a wide area of effect. If I can get close enough, I can trap them in the middle of it.â
âThat is a foolâs gambit, Glynda.â
âYes, but itâs better than waiting until Salem is ready to activate the Cuckoos.â
ââŚâ
âThereâs no other way!â
âWait!â
Without another second, Glynda bolted for the enemy commander. She ducked and rolled between her enemies as well as her allies. Short-ranged Magic darts repelled any hostile Grimm out of her way. The Huntress made rapid progress towards her destination, but eventually, the beasts around her took notice.
They swarmed from the land and sky. Flying Preyer Mantis Grimm swept low with their scythe-like forelegs. Some of the Moredread lumbered in her direction in a joust. Glynda cast a shield around her, but it was quickly being whittled away.
If she could only make it a few more meters, she knew she could invoke a storm large enough to encompass the commanderâs surroundings. She didnât even need to live to maintain the spell to its end. Just starting the incantation would be enough. Just emptying her Aura for all its worth would be enough.
Then, she heard her barrier break and her riding crop shorted like a bad fuse. Glynda didnât know where it broke from, there were too many possible angles. She could recast it, but by that time, it would be too late.
As a Jester pounced from behind her back, a pair of fingers thrust into its eye sockets. The hand gripped the top of its cranium and swung it into another pack of hyenas, knocking them over like bowling pins.
The man body-blocked Glynda from the attacks coming from outside her peripheries. His diamond hard skin deflected any harm and reflected the impact of others. Claws and fangs shattered on contact with the hard surface.
âThis is a bit reckless for you, donât you think?!â Taiyang shouted.
âI knew you would be there,â Glynda replied.
âYeah, well, you know I canât keep this up forever!â
âI know, Tai. But I also know you can keep it up for long enough.â
âItâs tough being reliable,â he said, with a smugness trying to hide the strain on his body.
âHmhmhm!â Glynda chuckled in a slightly flirtatious way.
She refocused on the task at hand and saw the assumed Grimm commander and its escorts retreating back. But by now, it was already too late. She was well within the optimum range.
Glynda stabbed her riding crop to the sky like a divine sword. Clouds formed to her summons. A large violet insignia pulsated as the weather became shaded with a low rumble. Bright veins of light flashed within the swirling veil like outlining blood vessels.
Not another second passed before pillars of pure, electric destruction descended on Salemâs army. They traced the ground, gorging through the earth like a scroll saw. All the Grimm the light touched were instantly burned into a crisp.
Glynda was elated at the success, but stopped herself from getting too carried away. She dealt a heavy blow by conjuring the thunderstorm so deep into enemy lines, but that was not the main purpose of her stratagem. She watched the other Grimm outside the storm to see if her gamble paid off.
There was no change at first and it made her heart freeze up. But sure enough, the creatures gradually lost a sense of focus. A few breaths later and they began to scatter in retreat. Countless legs trampled and stumbled over each other, while Vacuo warriors pressed forward to slay any stragglers.
Glyndaâs knees gave out, and she sat in a manner that betrayed her usual stringent demeanor.
âWowâŚâ
She turned a sly eye to the awestruck Taiyang.
âWhat are you so surprised about?â Glynda asked.
âI sometimes forget how scary you can be.â
âReally?â
âIt doesnât happen a lot, cause you know, youâre constantly reminding everyone. But times like this really drive it home.â
âIâm flattered.â
âNo, youâre not.â
âYouâre right. Iâm not.â
âIssss this a bad time to say, I think Iâm in loââ
âDonât finish that sentence, Tai.â
Glynda got to her feet and started making her way back to Minerva.
âOr else Iâm liable to cast a second thunderstorm.â

At the top floor of the Tower, Professor Oobleck set down the latest copy of Professor Portâs diary entry with a serious look.
âIt appears, thanks to some brave heroics on Glyndaâs part, the battle of Vacuo has reached premature conclusions.â
Emerald breathed a groaning sigh of relief before falling on top a nearby pile of books. She even thought about taking a nap, before noticing Oobleckâs tenseness unchanged.
ââŚ? Okay, did I miss something, or did you just say the battle was over?â
âI did,â he replied.
âSo, are you one of those people with resting angry face orâŚâ
âSalem did not appear on the battlefield, nor did any of her named associates, save the individual Glynda forced to withdraw. The majority of the opposition Vacuo waged battle with were Grimm, and not the Nightmare Class we know to have joined her fold.â
âProbably conserving them. This was only the first fight.â
âA plausible theory.â
âYeah! So, no time to waste, Prof. We need to blow this joint, not that I donât love the smell of old books and ancient-lost-forgotten-knowledge.â
âYou donât have to be sarcastic.â
âWhoâs being sarcastic? Iâd spend my whole life here if I could. Think I might ask Masa to build me one of these. But weâre on a time crunch and weâve got a long ass drive ahead of us. Hey, punchy! That means you, too!â
Emerald strode over to Yang sitting cross-legged, and kicked her boot. Though, the kick registered, the girl seemed completely immersed in what she was reading.
âWhat? Find something new in your momâs diary?â
âNo⌠Somethingâs off,â Yang shook her head. âBlake, or well, Salem, keeps talking about this âCloak and Daggerâ plan. She has to know weâre at this Tower, right? I mean, she didnât see us at the battle, sheâs gotta have some idea.â
âYeah, that tracks. What are you getting at?â
âSheâs probably keeping watch of whatever everyoneâs putting on message, but Iâve been piecing together the clues we do have. Some texts between Bean and Jupiter Black, along with some other assassins the guy brought along.â
âAnd?â
âThey donât line up. The timing for their plan sounded like it was set for the battle. They kept sending updates to each other. âAre you in position?â, âYesâ, that kind of thing.â
âIt could be nothingâŚâ Emerald felt paranoia creep in. âBut when is it ever nothing with Salem?â
The girl paced the room a bit. Professor Oobleck also had his own doubts prior to Yangâs. Emerald started biting her thumbnail as she walked in circles. Now, she was sure something was wrong.
Salemâs associates.
The first battle lost.
A battle lost prematurely?
Did they throw the fight on purpose?
âCloak and Daggerâ.
Emerald stopped in her step.
âShitâŚâ
âWhat? Did you figure it out?â Yang jumped.
âItâs in the stupid name! Salemâs such a pompous asshole! But, shit. Weâre the only ones who know about it, and weâre too far away to make a difference!!!â Emerald shouted, while pulling out her scroll and typing as fast as she could.
âWhat is it, Em?!â
âCloak and Dagger, Yang! If that whole fight was the cloakâŚâ
Yangâs eyes widened with realization.
âWhereâs the dagger?â

.
As Temujin made her way back into the throne room with tired steps, she was helped by Mouse and Knives Rakis into her seat.
âHoh hoh,â she planted herself with a shamble. âI really am getting old. Hardly lifted a finger and all these bones start creaking like thin leaf plywood.â
âI wouldnât really call firing a couple airships and spears the size of most people âhardly lifting a fingerâ,â Mouse smirked.
âOh, then you should have seen me back in the day. Riding my motorcycle into battle with hellâs fury at my beck and call. It wouldâve made todayâs display look shameful in comparison.â
âYouâre still plenty strong.â
âPeh!â Temujin brushed it off. âNo, most definitely not strong. But perhaps a tad shrewder in my age. I mostly get you youngsters to fight my battles for me nowâto my regret.â
At that moment, Knives brought a freshly steaming cup of tea and set it on Temujinâs arm rest. The elder was about to drink it, before she pulled back.
âKnives, this is much too hot. Canât you bring me a cooler cup?â
The two siblings gave a momentary pause.
âA gentle reminder for you to slow down and take your time,â Knives replied smoothly.
âTake any more time and I might right die of old age.â
âEnough of that. For now, Mouse and I will handle the logistics of the aftermath. Weâll report when everything is summarized.â
âWe suffered very little casualtiesâŚâ
âYes, we did.â
ââŚThat doesnât sit well. Victory never comes so easily.â
She stared into the siblingâs pairs of silver eyes and saw they reflected something far-off in the distance. Not just the distance, but also maybe the future.
âBe vigilant, children. And Knives, thank you for attending to the other matter.â
âOf course. Please, take this time to enjoy your tea.â
With Knivesâ parting words, the siblings left the room. Temujin was left to stare at her tea cup with her lower lip sticking out in a sort of pout.
âHow am I supposed to enjoy it if I canât drink it?â
The drink still had a thick haze of steam swirling from its surfaceâŚ
âuntil the steam suddenly wavered.
âŚ
âAh⌠I really am getting old.â Temujin gripped her cane tighter. âTo think I didnât notice an assassin until they came this close.â
From an open window, Vulcan Black leapt in with his giant maul in hand. The head of his hammer torched with the flame and lava of a volcanic eruption. A heavy cloud of billowing smolder trailed from his downward swing.
âCheeky brat.â
Temujin tapped her cane once against the stone floor and activated her âterritoryâ. Vulcan was less than five paces away from letting his hammer fall, when his body faltered in midair. The assassinâs large stature then, crumbled as if under its own weight. He immediately started choking for air as his vision blurred. It was as if the atmosphere itself was trying to kill him, rejecting him like a bacterial infection.
Temujin stood from her seat and bade her teacup one last glance.
She thought about how the Rakis twins were acting, and how unusual Knives was about bringing her a drink much hotter than her usual brew. It was a subtle ploy to warn her.
They must have used their Semblance to foresee this.
No wonder she gave me an especially steaming cup.
How nice it is to have such thoughtful childrenâŚ
Temujin made her slow way to Vulcan, who was nearing unconsciousness.
âHuh. Never met an assassin as bulky as you. In my prime days, I have no doubt we would have enjoyed a grand battle. Alas, I canât really act that way anymore. My days of fighting head on, facing my foe blow for blow!â she pumped her fists, then went into a tired lament. âLong past, Iâm afraid. Iâve had to resort to much shrewder methods with my seniority.â
Vulcan concentrated all his focus into moving his arm. It reached for his trusty maul that fell just a few millimeters from his outstretched fingers. He could almost touch it, when Temujinâs foot rested on his knuckles.
âStill havenât given up on killing me! My respects!â
Vulcan was practically frothing at the mouth. Nothing but his rage and anguish kept him alive.
âIt was sore luck you were contracted to kill me. I doubt thereâs ever a worst target in all of Remnant for assassinations than myself.â
The giant assassin was now shaking uncontrollably.
âWell, may you have peaceful passage into the afterlife knowing you were defeated by the strongest Aura Skill practitioner to ever exist.â
At some point, Vulcan stopped resisting. Something of a quiet acceptance started to seep into his soul.
âMy apologies, young pup. But this is death.â
Temujin honed her cane to a sharpness with Aura Skill, before plunging it swiftly through Vulcanâs back. The blow came quick and merciful and painless.
A heavy silence filled the chamber.
âThe greatest shame for an assassin having failed their mission, is a corpse left behind. I shall endeavor to preserve your dignity as much as possible. An unmarked grave in the middle of the dunes, where no one will disturb you or uncover you. I suppose I owe you that much for my disgraceful methods.â
Temujin tore down one of the large tapestries hanging from the walls and threw it over Vulcanâs corpse.
âNow, that I think of it, I never asked your name.â
âI suppose that too is a preservation of dignity for an assassin.â
.
.
A far distance away, three figures laid on their bellies, peeking just barely over the crest of a tall sand dune.
âCuriousâŚVery curiousâŚâ one of them muttered behind his intricately silver designed magnifying glass.
Bean and Inna, who watched the same scene play out turned to him with expectation.
âYouâve discovered the method Temujin employed against Vulcan?â Bean asked.
âYou didnât?â the man asked back.
âReason unclear. Vulcan⌠collapsed without any point of contact or visible action. Your theory is required, Professor Moriarty.â
âElementary, young man. But I must say, her Semblance is more flexible than I would have guessed. But these eyes see, this brain knows,â the man tapped his temple. âMy Semblance learns all secrets.â
âExplanation required,â Bean repeated.
Moriarty gave a dark chuckle
âThe old bat used her Warsmithâs Semblance to âweaponizeâ her surroundings. Atmospheric pressure, temperature, Iâd even include the gravityâall of it came under her control. She can make her environment literally a weapon. How fascinating.â
The young boy went into silent shock before speaking again.
âConclusion drawn: close combat deemed impossible. Only viable avenue is long-range methods.â
âItâll be tough to catch an Aura Skill user like Temujin from long-range,â Inna added her input. âBut if anyone can do it, I can.â
The girl nodded her consent, but Moriarty gave them both a dismissive look. He stroked his thick broom mustache in thought.
âNot necessarily. There appears to be a weakness⌠For now, we should regroup and report to Salem. Our other cohorts should be carrying with Dagger Phase as we speak.â
ââŚAgreed,â Bean answered. âThe second wave must be prepared.â
The three left their hiding spot and made for the mountain ridge they made headquarters.
On the way back, Bean glanced to the Haven Professor seemingly doing a multitude of calculations in his head.
âProbability of Dagger Teamâs success?â the boy asked.
â85% by my observationâ Moriarty replied easily.
ââŚAnd success of eliminating the main targets?â
âHmmm. Four of the six objectives should be met, if we are to include Vulcanâs failed mission, though, that was within expectation.â
âAnd the other failed target?â
âChain Nai will likely survive. He is an exceptionally formidable one. The rest of the targets will not.â
Bean went silent. He felt a pinch at the edge of his heart.
He didnât know them well, or particularly liked them. But there were two individuals targeted for elimination in Dagger Phase he felt some bitterness towards.
Bean muttered quietly under his breath,
âSorry, Yang.â
.

.
In the aftermath of the battle, the Black Iron Road had all its furnaces fired immediately.
They didnât know when the next battle would break out and many of those who took part in the fight, needed repairs to their arms as soon as possible. This also held true for those with prosthetics.
As a result, a long line of patrons in queue were lined up outside Brigidâs workshop. All her apprentices were working around the clock, dashing back and forth between stations. They ran out to exchange parts they were low on with other shops. And among the chaos, Brigid received her next patron with a certain grin.
âMercury!â she bellowed. âTake care of this one here!â
Mercury quickly put the finishing touches to a Faunusâ ear in time to clear a seat.
A boy, a bit pockmarked in the face and some bloody scrapes, sat down on the stool in front of him. The young boy looked a little worse for wear, but he didnât act like it. Instead, he beamed with a pride only the young and boastful could have.
âCanât believe your old man let you join the aerial unit at the last minute,â Mercury shook his head, and began disassembling the damaged parts to Icarusâs wing.
âI only worked support mostly,â he replied shyly.
âUh huh. And you get these scrapes only working support.â
âWell, when the main units were busy somewhere else, they needed us to hold the lines on another front. We couldnât let any Grimm pass the wall, after all.â
âHow many did you get?â
âAbout⌠five.â
âSo, two. Pretty good for a kid with a new prosthetic.â
âI said, five!â
âI saw two.â
Icarus blushed with embarrassment.
âYou were watching me?â
âYeah. Only cause you were watching me.â
âThat was cause you were so cool! How did you make a storm by yourself?! Can you teach me to do that?!â
âMaybe. Probably should check with your dad first. Where is the hard ass, anyway?â
âHeâs right here, cousin.â
Mercury heard the poison in that voice and turned with an indescribable feeling of dread.
Not too far behind Icarus was Daed. But behind the father was a cloaked figure wearing a steel mask. The assassin had a knife tucked just barely visibly under his hostageâs throat.
âJupiterâŚ!â Mercury growled.
âSo, glad you remembered me. Iâd thought youâd all but forgotten your debt unpaid.â
âLet him go!â
âTsk tsk tsk. Well, that would entirely defeat the purpose of a hostage now, wouldnât it?â
âGoddamn it! Goddamn you, Jupiter!!!â
âTemper, dear cousin. If anyone should be angry, it should be me. You killed Apollo and Diana.â
âThey got themselves killed!â
âAnd now, I have two less assassins under my management. You and your precious little friends are going to suffer for that. No hard feelings, mind you. Simply professional. I have a reputation to uphold.â
Mercury was about to leap at him, when Jupiter twisted the knife, causing some blood to drip from Dead. The threat made Mercury freeze instantly.
âSee, that is the difference between you and I, little cousin. We are assassins, but you lack the actual principle required by our kind.â
Mercury was practically burning with anger, doing everything to check his impulse.
âLife is fleeting. It giveth and it is taketh.â
âYou want me?! Then come and get me! Leave them out of this!!!â
âAttachment to it in any shape or form, even your ownââ
âJUPITER!â
ââIs weakness.â

In the dark alleyway, Adamâs slash caught nothing but air. His target had ducked at the last second and slipped close in the next.
Neo twisted her body with a quick torque and a snap to unleash a vicious uppercut kick that connected with Adamâs jaw. Once her opponent was floating midair, she readied to transition into the follow up. She didnât want to allow him even a single chance to touch the ground again.
Just then, a violet light drew from the shadows and sliced at her midsection. Neo had no choice but to back off and teleport away.
During her retreat, something odd happened. Her Semblance didnât grant her the smooth passage it usually did. Instead, her body was flung upside down through a nearby store window.
Neo didnât understand. She scanned her surroundings, but it was nowhere near resembling the location she wanted to warp to. Something interfered with her Semblance. When she finally looked down at the wound she received, Neo knew the cause.
In addition to the blood draining out, a cursed black mist billowed from the opened flesh. Neo then, heard the snapping of glass as her two enemies caught up to her.
Blake and Adam approached like a pack of hunters cornering their prey.
Neo could only curse silently as she took up her fighting stance once more.
âTonight, the monster finally dies,â Blake gloated. âAnd once youâre gone, Yang will be mine once again.â
ââŚ!â
âFace it, Neo. It never wouldâve worked out. Yang and I were made for each other. She knows it, I know it, everybody does. Hahaha!â
Neo growled mutely.
âEven you! You just donât have the courage to admit it.â
Neo summoned an army of shimmering glass weapons, but they were blown away by the simultaneous wind slashes of Blake and Adam.
âYou never had any hope. No salvation.â
Iâll kill you!
âSee? How could Yang ever love such a monster, like you? A murderer and a psychopath? Sheâs a good girl. Too good for you.â
IâLL KILL YOU!
âI mean, I suppose there are a few fans of the deranged kind, who love to see the brave heroine corrupted by a lunaticâs cruel whims. But I was never fond of it myself.â
IâLL KILL YOU UNTIL THEREâS NOTHING LEFT!!!
âVery unhealthy, I think. No, I much prefer the romance between the kind-hearted, well-meaning, but tragic beauty and her brave, fiercely, sexy warrior. Now, thatââ
SHUT UP!!!
âThat is a ship I can get behind.â

so letâs talk about Shieda fucking Kaynââ
first off, I actually want to give props to Riot because as much as I change shit around I'm genuinely glad we're continuing to receive lore that intertwines with other pieces rather than having a bunch of standalones that generally fail (and subsequently receive harsher criticism) solely because they have nothing to lean on. as expected some (most) people are unhappy with it but if nothing else I'm glad Kayn has lore beyond his little intro paragraph because y'all know they very well could've just gave us that and left it. (I'm not here to complain about the comm tho that's a separate post) basically, I'm Pleased and there's a lot to think about.
Initially, the decision to make Kayn a Noxian threw me for a Big Ass Loop⢠because I was convinced the Order was exclusively for Ionians (more specifically, Ionians proved worthy by Zed) and while Kayn was still chosen by Zed thereâs an underlying irony in this choice. Weâre deep into the Ionian/Noxian war by the time Kayn is forced into it, and while Zed isnât exactly the most Merciful or #Relatable person, imagine the intrigue a person such as himself had in seeing a poor, Noxian child with the drive and the anger of that of a seasoned warrior not only still holding on (considering Zed and co. didnât arrive to the scene for two days after Kayn was dispatched) throughout all of the carnage that surely followed, but finding the strength to take up his weapon once again. For what itâs worth, Kayn was determined to fight for his life or literally die trying no matter who challenged him. We know Kayn didnât know who was standing over him, but he was willing to fight anyway. I imagine Zed to have found it admirable, but at the same time beneficial: being able to change this boy and harness his rage, then unleash it against the same people that otherwise wouldâve let him die at the Epool. The same people that sought to slay his own. Iâm 50/50 about this because I speculated Zed had a reason for taking Kayn under his wing, but I didnât expect the Noxian angle at all.
The thing is, thereâs a lot more irony to this beyond Zed taking in a Noxian to use against other Noxians, as we can obviously see. Kayn resembles Zed in many waysâ a familiar, stubborn arrogance alongside the same hungry determination that inevitably consumes him to be more than what he is, going as far as to seek an advantage through outside means - just like Zed in seeking out the Box to surpass Shen, Kayn seeks out Rhaast; only itâs safe to say Kayn is far more ambitious in his reasons for doing so, as in Kayn wants control of the fucking Order itself where Zed... wasnât so bold, at the time.
Itâs interesting to think about how an endgame for Kayn (and also Zed, since at least in Zedâs case we have to consider his current (????) involvement with Shen in an attempt to stop Jhin all over again and then add Kayn to the mix) would play out as it is almost entirely dependent on Zed and Kaynâs will alone. Should Kayn succumb to Rhaast, (which now seems a little more plausible with Kaynâs cockiness running amok through everything he does) I imagine the dynamic would change entirely as it goes beyond controlling Kayn as best as Zed can (I use control loosely because while I imagine Zed to run the Order as he sees fit, to make it a total dictatorship still seems like a little bit of a stretch to me if only because we donât know how Zed reacted to Kayn returning with the Darkin scythe in hand and word that he Literally Killed Nakuri in order to bring it back) to having to deal with him without risking the rest of the Order and all of Ionia itself. Theyâve already got Jhin running around, for gods sake, they donât need a fucking Darkin along with him.
Ultimately, a lot like with champs such as Zed and Jhin, a real endgame is left up to the writer of said character and the overall interpretation itself. The way I see it, Zed isnât going to be pleased with Kaynâs decisions to not only kill another member of the Order but also to voluntarily give part of himself to Rhaast in order to âcontrolâ him; but again we return to Zedâs somewhat Ulterior Motive as to why he brought Kayn in in the first place. Itâs not hard to tell that Kayn is confident, though overbearingly so--and from the looks of it, Zed isnât The Happiest about Kaynâs behavior nor his choices but there are fragments of Kayn that Zed can recall in himself that might just allow certain things... to an extent. Iâm in no way saying Zed just âo ok u just killed one of my students and defied my orders and also want The Order from me, Coolâ because Iâm laughing imagining the lecture/punishment Kayn actually receives after he returns with Rhaast and Kayn just scowling and grumbling the entire time but! I can see him allowing few aspects of Kayn solely because if he can convince Kayn that his strength comes from him, not Rhaast, Kayn can overcome Rhaast, and Zed can continue to shape him.
Also, let me add right now that while I donât think Zed would risk much for him, (Iâve never supported 100% Evil Zed but Iâm not a âZed Did Nothing Wrongâ stan either) I also donât agree with the idea that Zed wants Kayn to lose himself to Rhaast, that Zed would send Kayn to deal with Jhin, or that Zed would even involve him in it. The risk, in all of these scenarios is vastly higher than the reward. Again, a Literal Darkin running around slaughtering everyone would mean further disaster for Ionia, and inevitably word would get around who brought Kayn (and Rhaast by relation) into the nation, and while Zed isnât exactly a secret to all, I doubt heâd want to bring himself and his actions front and center. Kayn is still extremely young (eighteen-nineteen??) and while heâs in no way weak or stupid (s/o to Mint for mentioning this entire point to me i love u big hug) Jhin has years of experience on him. It wouldnât be difficult for Jhin to take advantage of Kayn and either kill him on the spot or put him through worse knowing it was a stronger way to get to Zed especially if we can assume Kayn would completely underestimate him. For what itâs worth... my interpretation, specifically, has yet to know of Jhin at all. Whether or not he later on learns and what happens thereafter is to be decided. (*aggressively chinhands*)
Furthermore, in regards to the âwow he is so clicheâ âwow he is so edgyâ arguments that plague his Entire Fucking Existence and tag right now... yes. It was obvious he was going to be a little edgy and a little bit of a cliche. That doesnât (and it shouldnât) take away from the potential he has to further flesh out the lore as a whole. You gotta realize now more than ever that Kayn is young, one of the youngest champions (?) to have a fairly deep involvement with some larger scale issues going on within the overall story. I can name a few other champs that follow a similar path and are edgy in their own respects, but Iâm not going to. The lore has disproved many things, one of them being that Kayn isnât Just Edgy for the sake of being edgy. Itâs very likely that as he grows and matures, a lot of his current mannerisms will fade/vanish entirely depending on what happens to him in the future. In a nutshell, being edgy doesnât make him a joke, and heâs clearly not an unconditional, rampant Zed fanboi uguu kouhai xDdD like a lot of people were using at the forefront of their argument as to why they dislike him. đ
TO CONCLUDE ... I like Kayn, I like his lore, and Iâm really liking the possibilities for building him and taking him in a direction entirely my own. (and thatâs just for main verse, let alone the possible skin aus, modern verse, what have you) Of course, it wouldnât be a Blog by Hina⢠without some divergence, but Iâll be figuring that out as I go. I already have some specific ideas pertaining to my interpretation exclusively, but they need to be tested/written down before I can really apply them. I am Happy, and Iâm looking forward to keeping this going.
some additional stuff I noted/had confirmed to cover later but still want to mention:
nakuri calls kayn brother! the order is (at least somewhat) familial! miss me with that ânobody cares abt each other in the orderâ shit
is it safe to say kaynâs abilities covered in the lore/in game (the wall walking and the ability to literally enter bodies for a short time especially) are things zed is also capable of? he couldnât have learned them from anyone but zed, right?
A Big Old Confirmation that when kayn enters another body, he can see (and subsequently feel) just as the person would be for that moment. iâd like to think that eventually, kayn can fine tune this ability and utilize it for longer durations, however i imagine there will always be a risk from it and the victim will most likely always suffer afterwards. more on that Eventuallyâ˘
another Big Confirm that rhaastâs control leaves both physical and mental effects on the body (however it happens a lot faster than i originally anticipated) and the longer the usage, the more this shows in the form of carapace. iâll also be covering this at Some Point but even in kaynâs shadow assassin form, we see that the carapace is Gone (?) but in its place are dark dark marks, implying that even once rhaast is purged, remnants of him are still there most likely because of how long he was allowed to manifest. iâm still debating if this actually would hinder kaynâs eyesight / usage of his arm for a while should he overcome rhaast.
rhaast can be heard by more than just his wielder, which is something i wasnât thinking was possible. however, this could be a conditional thing to where either rhaast can choose who hears him or the only ones that do hear him are those susceptible to his control. either? or? the world is yet to know.
#jsyk this is 1780 words.#i'm not... particularly expecting this to be read LOL#but i had a lot of thoughts and so i wanted to voice them.#this isn't a hc post really#more like a general opinions / a few possible plans for my interpretation#but....#idk. i just love kayn.#i love my son.#out of character. â i'm kind of fragile.

Author Spotlight: BloomSoftly

Just as Iâm thinking I need to give this girl a lifetime achievement award for the amount of times sheâs nominated someone else for the spotlight, I get this:
I (@dresupi) would like to nominate @bloomsoftly for the author spotlight?
Sheâs writing a WONDERFUL Wintershock multichap (trade your) broken wings and the prompts she writes for people are AH-MAZING! <3 Sheâs also a total cupcake and deserves all the acclaim! <3
Huzzah! Here is both your spotlight and your thank you @bloomsoftly :).
01. What about Wintershock as a pairing appeals to you?
I love Darcy and Bucky both as individual characters and as a pairing. Bucky Barnes is one of my all-time favorite characters, and I think that he and Darcy are wonderfully complementary. Heâs been through so much, and I think Darcyâs special brand of irreverence would draw him out of his shell. Plus, the sass on those two? It keeps me giggling for days.
02. How did you first encounter the pairing?
Goodness, I canât even remember. Based on my AO3 bookmarks, I think it was a combination of @latessitriceâs If You Were My Love, @astreetcarnamedwynnâs That Which You Seek series, @leftennantâs Road Trip of Champions series, and @cinnaatheartâs Be Near Me Now (and Iâm in love with the follow-ups to that, too). Iâve read a lot of wintershock, okay? Weâre blessed to have so many fantastic writers.
03. Do you have any specific Wintershock headcanons?
I have a couple! I think Bucky would be touch-starved, for one. Iâm a sucker for fics that include that in the development of his relationship with Darcy. Second, I think Darcy would have no problem treating Bucky like a normal human being and less like a terrifying assassin, which would utterly throw him off. Lastly, I really like the idea of Bucky acknowledging his PTSD and getting a therapy dog.
04. Do you associate any particular songs with Wintershock? If so, which one?
Iâm a sucker for Cosmic Love by Florence + the Machine and Be the One by Dua Lipa--something about them just screams wintershock to me. I also really like to write while listening to Jyn Erso & Hope Suite from the Rogue One soundtrack. Itâs a bit weird, but it works.
05. What Wintershock fic by someone else would you recommend to others to read? What about this fic appeals to you?
Any one of the ones I mentioned above, plus practically anything by @amidtheflowers, @leftennant, and @cinnaatheart. Theyâre fantastic writers and lovely ladies. Some of my favorite fics in particular, though, are You (anchor me back down) by @sarcasticfina and In the End, She Appears by @iamkatebishop. Theyâre stellar.
06. What kind of Wintershock story would you love to read that hasnât been written yet by you or others?
Iâm a sucker for any kind of AU. I would love a mirror âverse where the Avengers are a team comprised of the badass ladies we know and love (Pepper, Nat, Jane, Wanda, etc.). Double points if Bucky gets to be a damsel in distress!
07. Out of the Wintershock stories youâve written, which is your favourite, and why?
Iâve poured my heart and soul into (trade your) broken wings, so I feel almost obligated to say that itâs my favorite. The cupcakes âverse is also fun and sexy, and an utter joy to write. But even though I love them, I think neither one is the story I feel most driven to tell? So I guess weâll see.
08. Quote a favourite extract from one of your stories. What is it that you like about it?
âJames steps closer to her. Darcyâs eyes snap to his, and he tugs again. âCome here, Darce. Thisâs also a two-for-one kinda deal.â With a choked laugh, she surrenders to his pull and lets him wrap her in his arms. For a long moment he holds his body stiffly against her; she wonders how often he hugs people, if at all. But just as sheâs about to pull back, not wanting to subject him to discomfort for her own sake, James relaxes. With a small huff against her hairâmore of a light exhale, reallyâhis arms tighten around her and she sinks into him. He is warm and large, and she idly wonders where these hugs have been all her life. His scent fills her nostrils, something woodsy and crisp, mixing with the freshness of the pasta. Darcy breathes deeply, wanting it to linger. She could honestly stand there forever, Darcy thinks, especially because his hand has started lightly stroking her hair. His other hand is rubbing cool, comforting circles in the middle of her back. As he does so, James also rocks them slightly side to side; with each motion, she can feel her anxiety seeping away, leaving warm security and comfort in its place.â
This scene is one of my favorites in broken wings because it epitomizes the loveliness of the wintershock relationship to me--pushing boundaries in a healthy way, but above all a relationship that provides warmth, love, and security to both Bucky and Darcy. And a little bit of playfulness, of course. ;)

ten awesome fics đ
tagged by @clotpolesonly to list 10 awesome fics!!! not a ranked all-time-favorites thing, but just fics form any fandom that i love, but um, these will probably be my all-time faves anyway (theyâre not ranked though). Most of them arenât actually from any of my usual fandoms, because sometimes I just like to read mindblowing fic, you know? And most of these mindblowing fics often show up in tiny fandoms with little drama and incredible authors who kinda pop in, drop a fic, and vanish back into their own regular fandoms.
(Limiting the number of Batfam fics on this list was really hard omg I should do a Batfam fic list at some point)
Can the City Forgive I Hear Its Sad Song by @victoriousscarf (Dick Grayson/Jason Todd, DC Comics) --- Hoooooooly shit guys this oneâs fucking incredible (I mean this authorâs incredible in general but this fic). Even if JayDick is not really your thing, you should absolutely consider giving this a shot. I know this is a JayDick fic and that relationship is great (like holy shit great itâs written really well), but whatâs really fucking incredible in this is the Bruce and Dick relationship. The DC fandom, particularly the older DC fandom, used to put out some fucking incredible Bruce/Dick relationships, but this one, I think this is the closest thing to their canon relationship that you can get. Bruce and Dick arenât even anywhere near each other throughout 98% of this fic but you can sense their relationship overwhelming everything else anyway. Theyâre not in love, theyâre not really family, theyâre not really friends, they can do without each other, but they love each other more than theyâll ever love anyone else, they are family, and they are friends, and most of all, they do need each other whether they want to or not. I can write a dissertation of Dick and Bruceâs relationship obviously, but the worldbuilding in this fic is also cray, and the plot, particularly the ending, blew my mind. The main story is COMPLETE, but Iâm loving the AU of this AU too, even though itâs a WIP right now. Such an excellent read, I canât emphasize it enough.
1000 Days by @zarabithia (Dick Grayson/Clark Kent, DC Comics) --- (full series linked in the masterlist) Okay, you know how thereâs that one fic that can make you ship something so hard it becomes an OTP? This is that fic. This series is the definition of âwriting makes the shipâ. Before this I never even considered Dick/Clark and now itâs a DC OTP like what? How did that even happen? Except it is that good. And the crazy thing is that it works, with a canon premise. Itâs not even an AU! Dick meets Clark when heâs just a baby Robin, and the series works through the entire timeline as Dick grows up and makes friends and faces life issues and becomes independent of Bruce, and the slow, realistic development of his relationship with Clark as he grows from the little boy who was starstruck by Superman, into his own, adult person. (Also the Roy/Dick friendship in this is bomb.)
Roadtrip Vigilantes by Beabae (beabaseball) (Dick Grayson & Bruce Wayne, DC Comics) --- I. I canât. This one just. I love it so much Bruce and little Dick and running away from the League so they can stay together -lays down on the ground and cries-
Republic of Heaven Community Radio by @bicatperson (Carlos/Cecil, Welcome to Night Vale, His Dark Materials, Fusion) --- If youâre into Welcome to Night Vale and are familiar with His Dark Materials please do yourself a favor and read it. Incredible storytelling, incredible writing, incredible plot, incredible representation. There are like, two white characters in this, and the culture is marked out very clearly as Not White. Loved everything about it. Loved every character (but loved Cecil the most).
Sass-Badger Verses Son-of-No-One by @bewareofchris (Malik Al-Sayf/AltaĂŻr Ibn-LaâAhad, Assassinâs Creed, Modern AU) --- I know nothing about Assassinâs Creed other than that they jump really high and wear cool outfits, but you donât need to know anything about it either; this fic stands on its own two feet. This fic made me care about whatever plot point or character or relationship it was focusing on at the given time instead of only on the overarching plot or the romance or one or two characters. The storytelling is, frankly, the best Iâve read in a very, very, very long time.
A Deeper Season by lightgetsin, sahiya (Miles Vorkosigan/Gregor Vorbarra, Vorkosigan Saga) --- Fanfic series for the Vorkosigan Saga, which is a series of novels? Donât know anything about them at all, never read âem and, after this fic, can never read them, because the original novels canât possibly live up to this? This is my canon now. Amazing, amazing story. Amazing, amazing characters. Very unique take on a royal romance.
A Tithe to Hell by Aja (L/Light, Death Note) --- Okay, you do need to know the canon for this one. Basically, what if L was even more paranoid than he actually was, and L and Lightâs, er, relationship, continued past episode 26. In case you havenât guessed, this is my new canon for Death Note. I can never go back. Best characterization, amazing storytelling, incredible dialogue, and did I mention the characterization???
Single Use Weapon by @fahye (Jack Benjamin/David Shepherd, Kings) --- Fahye is one of my favorite authors of all time and this is, hands down, my favorite thing theyâve ever written, which is crazy, picking a favorite was really hard all their stuff is so good, but this is the one thatâs going to stick with me for a long time I think. I love a good spy/double agent story, and this fic has the best plot and characterization of any spy(ish) fic Iâve ever read. Itâs so good, guys, The way Jack is written, itâs droolworthy for so many reasons.
Whispers from the Rye by @@somniumquiesco (Wolfram von Bielefeld/Yuuri Shibuya, Kyou Kara Maou) --- ajshdkjafldksalkdsjl I donât even know what to say I started reading this when I was a teenager and nearly ten years later I still read it over and over again. Iâve changed, my tastes have changed, but my love for this story has not changed one bit.
Shadowlord and Pirate King by Footloose (Merlin/Arthur Pendragon, BBC Merlin) --- Epic space adventure AU the worldbuilding in this is so fantastic itâs got magic, space pirates, assassins, intergalactic war, political intrigue, pirate politics, a prophecy, and a thousand other really fucking great things. The Merlin fandom and Footloose in particular regularly put out insanely amazing stuff, but this is the peak. I would pay actual money for this fic, which is more like a novel really. (Also @mushroomtaleâs art is A++++++ gorgeous as usual but extra gorgeous because I love this fic the most? Also the art goes so well with the fic in terms of style and tone too???)
One day I will probably be able to write an actual PhD dissertation on Bruce and Dickâs preboot relationship but today is not that day, so Iâm going to sadly turn this over to @storiesintheashes, @ice-tiger-kitten, @procellariidae, @naiadique, @girlwithribbon, @merkitty, @imonajourney, @mtblackbearfic

The Road to the Anti-Christ, Part 4
August 7, 2019 I am persuaded that Comet Shoemaker/Levi-9, that bombarded Jupiter for seven days, starting July 16, 1994, was a twenty-one year warning to mankind by Yehovah. It was 21 impacts, an average of 18 hours apart, for seven days. I first thought it was 20 impacts, marking the year 2014 as the start of something worldwide, on August 4th, according to the Hebrew calendar. It was too early for it to be signifying the rebuilding of the Temple.
So I thought it might mean the fall of the US dollar. What it turned out to be, instead of the economic crash of the USA, was the outbreak of Ebola, in West Africa, where I had a radio broadcast. Once I found out that it was 21 impacts, instead of 20, I felt July 26, 2015 would be the start of the last 7 years, and the Temple in Jerusalem would be built. I was wrong again.
Now, the only thing that could be left is that the Comet signaled when the missing 70th week of Daniel would begin, which would have been Sunday, July 26, 2015. Seven years from that date will be the 5th Hebrew month, and the 9th day that occurs in the year 2022. That would be in the July/August time frame.
A shadow picture of these events occurred to Jacob and his family in the book of Genesis. Joseph became governor in Egypt in the year 2038 BC, when he was 30 years old.
Genesis 41:28 - 31 28 This is the thing which I have spoken unto Pharaoh: What God is about to do he sheweth unto Pharaoh. 29 Behold, there come seven years of great plenty throughout all the land of Egypt: 30 And there shall arise after them seven years of famine; and all the plenty shall be forgotten in the land of Egypt; and the famine shall consume the land; 31 And the plenty shall not be known in the land by reason of that famine following; for it shall be very grievous.
Now, letâs jump down to vs 39 39 And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, Forasmuch as God hath shewed thee all this, there is none so discreet and wise as thou art: 40 Thou shalt be over my house, and according unto thy word shall all my people be ruled: only in the throne will I be greater than thou. 41 And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, See, I have set thee over all the land of Egypt. 42 And Pharaoh took off his ring from his hand, and put it upon Joseph's hand, and arrayed him in vestures of fine linen, and put a gold chain about his neck;
43 And he made him to ride in the second chariot which he had; and they cried before him, Bow the knee: and he made him ruler over all the land of Egypt.
Now, we skip to verse 46. 46 And Joseph was thirty years old when he stood before Pharaoh king of Egypt. And Joseph went out from the presence of Pharaoh, and went throughout all the land of Egypt.
Joseph was born in 2068 BC, when Jacob was 90 years old. When Jacob was introduced to Pharaoh by Joseph, Jacob was 130 years old.
Genesis 47:9 And Jacob said unto Pharaoh, The days of the years of my pilgrimage are an hundred and thirty years: few and evil have the days of the years of my life been, and have not attained unto the days of the years of the life of my fathers in the days of their pilgrimage.
So the seven years of plenty started in 2038 BC. The seven years of famine started in 2031 BC. Jacob and his family endured over 3 years of famine in Canaan before migrating to Egypt in 2028 BC. I suspect that it was 3 ½ years. Being in the land of plenty, which was Egypt after during the famine, the children of Israel were protected and nourished during the last 3 ½ years. Can you guess where Iâm going with this?
If the 70th week of Daniel began July 26, 2015, then the time of plenty ends in the July/August timeframe in 2022 AD, depending on if there is an Adar Bet, which is Hebrew for second 12th month. Adar is the last month in the Hebrew calendar. At least one of the coming 3 years will have the barley not being ripe enough in order to declare the beginning of the new year, which is the month called Aviv. The barley crop in Israel has to be ripe enough in order to have the Feast of First Fruits after the 14th day of the new month, which is the day of Passover. If the barley is late, then a second 12th month is declared in order to give the barley another month to reach the stage called âavivâ. In the book of Genesis, the translators mistakenly spelled it abib.
Exodus 13:3-5 3 And Moses said unto the people, Remember this day, in which ye came out from Egypt, out of the house of bondage; for by strength of hand the Lord brought you out from this place: there shall no leavened bread be eaten.
4 This day came ye out in the month Abib. 5 And it shall be when the Lord shall bring thee into the land of the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Amorites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites, which he sware unto thy fathers to give thee, a land flowing with milk and honey, that thou shalt keep this service in this month.
After the current seven years have ended, which is like the seven years of plenty in Egypt, the seven years of famine will begin. A ten nation alliance will arise, and the anti-Christ will seize control over three of those nations.
Following this, the seven other nations will give control to this man, and a seven year agreement will be made, which will open the door to the Temple being built in Jerusalem. In January of 2022 AD, I suspect that the Arc of the Covenant will be revealed for all to see, forty years after it was rediscovered in 1982, along with the table of showbread and other furniture that was kept in the Holy of Holies in the Temple before it was destroyed in about the year 587 BC.
I wonder what the atheists and agnostics will think when Enoch and Elijah show up in Jerusalem. It will be a prophecy fulfilled for all mankind to see. The last seven years before the rapture will begin, and the brimstone will hit the fan. 3 ½ years later, after they are killed by the Beast, also known as the Anti-Christ, and they arise and ascend back up to Heaven, the Beast will begin his 3 ½ year reign of terror on the Earth.
He will be joined by the false Jesus, also known as the false prophet. What might happen is that those that think that the rapture will come before the great tribulation will be fooled by the false prophet. The false Jesus will yield submission to the anti-Christ, and will be able to perform miracle after miracle.
A statue of the Beast will be made, and the false Jesus will give the statue a life of its own. We will read from Revelation chapter 13, starting at vs 5: 5 And there was given unto him a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies; and power was given unto him to continue forty and two months. 6 And he opened his mouth in blasphemy against God, to blaspheme his name, and his tabernacle, and them that dwell in heaven.
The Anti-Christ, will declare himself to be God, probably saying that the real God, Yehovah, does not exist. He will swear against Godâs name, declare the new temple in Jerusalem to be his own, and that it was erected in his honor. He will swear against Yehovah, His angels, and every entity that lives in Heaven. God will allow Satan to give enormous power and influence to the Beast.
Now, verse 7. 7 And it was given unto him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them: and power was given him over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations. 8 And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world. 9 If any man have an ear, let him hear.
Let me pause here. Some people believe in what is called predestination. It is not really true. God knows the future, and the hearts of mankind. The people that will âgive upâ, and go with the flow, their names are already missing from the book of life that Yehovah has in Heaven.
God also knows who will accept and keep true salvation, which is repentance, making the decision to stop all wrong doing, being water immersed using the name of Jesus, or Yeshua the Messiah, and receiving the Holy Ghost of Yeshua, evidenced by the speaking of the Spirit when it comes. Anything and everything else is false conversion doctrine.
Let me also say, that there will be people with enough godliness and righteousness that are not saved that will resist taking the mark of the beast, whatever form of mark it will be. It could be a tattoo, an implant, or whatever. But the main target of the anti-Christ will be those that claim to be Christians, and the real Christians will endure till the end, if they live that long.
10 He that leadeth into captivity shall go into captivity: he that killeth with the sword must be killed with the sword. Here is the patience and the faith of the saints. 11 And I beheld another beast coming up out of the earth; and he had two horns like a lamb, and he spake as a dragon. 12 And he exerciseth all the power of the first beast before him, and causeth the earth and them which dwell therein to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed.
This is the advent of the false Jesus, also known as the false prophet. Many people will believe that this impostor is Christ, and that he has come to take the Saints away. WRONG!!! This false messiah will show obedience to the anti-Christ, and persuade many to worship the Anti-Christ Those people are the ones whose names are not found in the book of Life.
13 And he doeth great wonders, so that he maketh fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men, 14 And deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by the means of those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the beast; saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast, which had the wound by a sword, and did live.
The Beast will apparently suffer an assassination attempt, which normally would be fatal. But he will recover, with powers given to him by Satan, and kill the two witnesses.
15 And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed. 16 And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: 17 And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.
The above verses imply that the greater evil will come from the false messiah, showing that he has seemingly divine powers. But be not deceived. Behold I have told you before, as did Yeshua.
IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS ASK.
Have a blessed day and week. May Yeshua the Messiah bless you, Love, Debbie

American Sonnets for My Past and Future Assassins by Terrance Hayes

Something in the metaphor of the bow Which is never close enough to see the arrow Hit its mark. I remain a mystery to my father. My father remains a mystery to me. Christianity is a religion built around a father Who does not rescue his son. It is the story Of a son whose father is a ghost. No one Mentions Jesusâ sister. Nothing is written About her. She had no children, she was in her Forties the first time she turned water into wine. A late bloomer, she began a small wine business And traveled all over the world selling the wine. Her name was the name of the wine. I donât recall the name of the wine.

America, you just wanted change is all, a return To the kind of awe experienced after beholding a reign Of gold. A leader whose metallic narcissism is a reflection Of your own. You share a fantasy with Trinidad James, who said, âGold all in my chain, gold all in my ring, Gold all in my watchâ & if you know what Iâm talking About, your gold is the yellow of âLemonadeâ by Gucci Mane: âYellow rims, yellow big booty, yellow bones, Yellow Lambs, yellow MPâs, yellow watch.â Like no Culture before us, we relate the way the descendants Of the raped relate to the descendants of their rapists. May your restlessness come at last to rest, constituents Of Midas. I wish you the opposite of what Neruda said Of lemons. May all the gold you touch burn, rot & rust.

Goddamn, so this is what it means to have a leader You despise, the racists said when the president Was black and Iâll be damned if I ainât saying it too. Is this a mandate for whiteness, virility, sovereignty, Stupidity, an idiotâs threats & gangsta narcissisms threading Every shabby sentence his trumpet constructs? You Are not allowed to say shit about Mexicans when you Ainât actually got any Mexican friendsâI bet youâve never Been invited to a family dinner. You ainât allowed to deride Women when youâve never wept in front of a woman That wasnât your mother. Americaâs struggle with itself Has always had people like me at the heart of it. You canât Grasp your own hustle, your blackness, you canât grasp Your own pussy, your black pussy dies for touch.

This word can be the difference between knowing And thinking. Itâs the name people of color call Themselves on weekends & the name colorful People call their enemies & friends. It used to be The word for the absence of inheritance. Before that It was the word for the feel of burlap. When Lincoln Witnessed a slave auction in his boyhood, it was The first word to enter his mind. Before it evoked A kind of bewildering mothering, it evoked Jobâs Afro silvering with suffering. It is the difference Between cursive, tantrum, assault & pepper spray. It is the title of that absurd three-act play Where the actors say nothing but âWho can sayâ And who can say âWho can sayâ for two hours straight.

From now on I will do my laundry early Sunday Mornings when all the young tenants are hung- Over or worn out, all the old people in church, And the elementary parents parked at playgrounds With their children inside the âPlay At Your Own Riskâ sign on the fence. I tried to tell the woman Who sent me songs, itâs departure that makes company Hard to master. I tried to tell her Iâm a muser, a miser With time. I love poems more than money & pussy. From now on I will eat brunch alone. I believe Eurydice is actually the poet, not Orpheus. Her muse Has his back to her with his ear bent to his own heart. As if what you learn making love to yourself matters More than what you learn when loving someone else.
***
Suppose you could speak nothing but money And acrimony. Suppose all the sunflowers Van Gogh destroyed, all the stones in Virginiaâs Pockets & all the stones Georgia painted as vaginas Were simply a matter of making something greater Than money. Prince taught us a real man has A beautiful woman in him. Suppose we cannot Forget what happened in Money. Suppose Youâre someone who celebrates Thomas Jeffersonâs Birthday. Suppose he was someone whose love For a black woman was blinded by blackness, Hers & his, yours & mine. I ainât made at you, Assassin. Itâs not the bad people who are brave I fear, itâs the good people who are afraid.

A brother versed in spiritual calisthenics And cowboy quiet seeks funny, lonesome, Speculative or eye-glassed lass. Shopaholics Welcomed. Also Prince fanatics, museum Cashiers, & pragmatists conversant (lipstick Or no lipstick) with a hipness substantial Enough to contract around a muscle as well As expand around a child. Fear of boredom is ideal. Fear of dereliction is okay. Love for the willy-nilly And Willie Nelson, welcomed. Crushes, depressions, And unsightly hesitations are okay. Must freely Expend humor & grace. Amid long Sundays, Long drives, long movies, & school conferences, Occasional acts of disregard or guardedness are okay.

Glad someone shot deserved to be shot finally, George Wallace. After you send your basket of balms And berries for the girls the bomb buried in Birmingham, After you add your palms to the psalms & palm covered Caskets of the girls the bomb buried in Birmingham, Iâll muster a pinch of prayer for you. You are the blind Protagonist of a story that begins, âIn my previous life My work involved returning runaway slaves to slavery,â And ends with the image of a black nurse pushing Your old ass in a wheelchair. Can you guess what black Folk passing empty cotton fields feel, George Wallace? I damn you with the opposite of that feeling. I keep thinking Iâm confessing for the first time, the reason I fear you, And you keep asking why Iâm telling this old story again.

In a parallel world where all Dr. Whoâs Are black, Iâm the doctor who knows no god Is more powerful than Time. In a parallel world Where all the doctors who are black see cops Box black boys in cop cars & caskets, Iâm The doctor who blacks out whenever he sees A police box. In a parallel world where doctors Who box cops in caskets cry doing their jobs, I disappear inside a skull thatâs larger on the inside. Question: if, in a parallel world where every Dr. Who was black, you were the complex Time Lord, When & where would you explore? My answer is, A brother has to know how to time travel & doctor Himself when a knee or shoe stalls against his neck.
