Author's Note: Haven't uploaded in SOOOOO long, which is my bad.  It was exam season, then a lot of stuff happened and uni is a lot - shoutout to everyone interviewing for placement years right now.  Anyway, hoping to write a bit more this time around.  So, yeah, this is just a short thing I wrote after ep 61 aired, because I love Chuuya.  There may be some vamp!Chuuya content coming soon too lmao.

Many tragedies had befallen Chuuya in his life.  He had been a lab rat, tortured and trapped.  He had been betrayed, his first friends, his family, being the ones to stick the knife in his back.  He had met Dazai.  Just when things were looking up, he bore witness to the murder of his closest friends.  He had lost control, almost dying and taking everything with him, succumbing to his singularity.  Multiple times.  

For all the tragedies he had endured, Chuuya was certain he had also caused plenty of tragedy for others, both deserving and undeserving.  Hurting people came with the territory as a Port Mafia member. Delivering calamity was his role, ever since he pledged himself to the mafia.  Chuuya Nakahara, executive of the Port Mafia, former King of the Sheep, bringer of the storm awaited by Verlaine, was capable of so much destruction. 

Sometimes it brought him joy.  Sometimes he felt as if it was a way to get back at the universe, hurt the world back, devastate it as he had been devastated.  It was a way to let out his rage and anger for everything that had happened.  The pain of all he had endured was overwhelming, unbearable at times.  If Chuuya could return even a fraction of that pain, he felt as if he would find some relief.  Sometimes it worked, only temporarily, but, for a moment, he felt as if the scales had been balanced.  Sometimes, most of the time actually, there was no such feeling.

Sometimes he hated it.  Sometimes he hated himself, hated that he enjoyed it, that it didn't fill him with guilt.  It made him feel inhuman, reminded him of how he would never know whether he was truly real, or a copy of someone else, designed only to be a vessel.  It drudged up the memories of his past, the violence and horror and sorrow.  His power, the reason he was capable of such destruction, was the result of an experiment.  He was the result of an experiment.  Sometimes he felt that was all he ever would be.  Sometimes he hated that he had to use what made him feel so inhuman.

Chuuya had endured many tragedies.  He had caused many calamities.  He hurt and he healed, over and over. A cycle of pain and sorrow and acceptance.  Chuuya had resigned himself to it, finding small moments where he felt fine.  Never happy, but okay enough, and he had come to terms with that.  It was manageable, the cycle repetitive.  Tragedy, hurt, heal.  He knew what was coming.  

That was, until you came along.

You, who smiled at him and caused an explosion in his chest.  A blossoming warmth that gave him comfort and unease in equal measure.  He wasn't a stranger to caring for others, yet he had never cared for someone like this.  You had consumed his heart, filled his thoughts and given him hope for his humanity.  After all, how could someone be capable of such intense love if they did not have a soul? If Chuuya was so inhuman, how come he had such capacity for love?

At first, he wasn't sure if this emotion was love.  When he had first met you, there had definitely been attraction, but nothing more than that.  Chuuya wasn't stupid.  He didn't believe in things like 'love at first sight', or anything like that.  He knew he didn't love you from the moment he laid eyes on you, as nice as that would have been.  After spending several months getting to know you, spending evenings drinking wine and laughing together, and spending nights in each other's embrace, Chuuya knew it must have been love.  One day, there was a warmth in his chest, felt only with you.  Chuuya loved you.  He was certain.

It was the certainty of his own love that proved your reciprocation.  Chuuya was loyal and, once he'd tied himself to someone (or some people), that was it.  He was bound forever.  It was that way with the Sheep.  He stuck with them, despite their betrayal, inevitably giving Dazai the leverage to induct him into the Port Mafia.  His loyalty was a defining trait, something that never wavered, but it had to be earned.  You had earned his love, through sharing affection, trust and care of your own.  Showing him the love you felt for him solidified his own feelings. Chuuya knew that he loved you, because you loved him.  The devotion you had for him matched his own adoration for you.

Chuuya loved you.  It was why he would collapse into your arms after every tough mission, every rough day at work.  It was why he could relax around you, spending hours in your presence.  It was why he knew that, after every moment he spent apart from you, he could always count on finding solace and respite in your arms.  Even when he was miles from you, in another country, he knew.  As soon as they made their way back, Chuuya, Dazai and the rest of team Meursault.  As soon as he set foot back in Yokohama, his city, he knew you'd be waiting there.

He was right.  The transport Mori had sent for them had only just landed, Chuuya had barely set foot on the ground, when you jumped on him, arms wrapping around his neck, knocking him to the ground.  He felt his arms wrap around you in response, face burying itself in the crook of your neck, collapsing in the comfort of your embrace. He watched as you smiled and laughed and joked, your joy bringing a grin to his own face.  Even as you giggled with Dazai, the bandaged man regaling you with the tale of his prison break, Chuuya's face was the picture of fondness.   His eyes held a softness reserved only for you as you leaned into him, arm wrapped around your waist.  

Many tragedies had befallen Chuuya in his life and Chuuya had been the creator of many tragedies.  He had wounded and healed and wounded again.  However, all of that ceased to exist when he was with you.  Chuuya was able to finally feel more than okay, he was able to feel at home.

A New Discovery (Dark Era Soukoku-Romantic-)

Osamu Dazai is a secretive man. That much everyone knows, you can tell by the way he holds himself. The dark look in his red-brown eyes, screaming danger and mystery to any on-lookers. Though it's also equally as well known that Chuuya Nakahara is the one who knows arguably the most, though he'd deny it if asked.

-Chuuya’s POV-

This mission is fucking stupid. And it's not because the Boss forced me to dress as a woman, no. I'm well used to that now and it hardly bothers me anymore. This mission is stupid because the fuckin Mackerel got drunk off his flat ass, and now I'm stuck with lugging him back to my penthouse that he has just decided to live at.

I'm fuming as I walk through the dark back alleys, Dazai conked out over my shoulder. It is the easiest way to carry him while I'm stuck in this hideous dress, like who thought chartreuse would look good on me? Whatever, I'm getting myself worked up again.

I sigh and take deep breaths as I walk through the lobby confidently and go into the empty elevator. The damn lanky bastard is still passed out, I tap my heeled foot against the marbled floor of the silent elevator. Finally, it opens to my floor and I march to my door, grabbing my key from my purse and pushing open the door with my hip, locking it back, and going directly to the Mackerel’s room.

Keeping the lights off I toss Dazai on his bed, when he's this drunk he is painfully hard to wake up despite him being an insomniac. I sit on the bed beside him and work on getting his tie off him. I know he'll probably complain about it choking him while he was sleeping so I might as well save myself the headache. Once the tie is off I toss it to the corner where Dazai piles his dirty clothes. I notice a black dot on his neck that I'd never seen before.

I figure a tick or some shit had landed on him so I try to brush it away but it’s not coming off. I grab my phone out and turn on the flashlight. I can finally get a better look at it and it's a mole. Didn’t know Dazai had one, I poke it, and Dazai squirms, his one visible eye fluttering open, his stupidly long lashes framing his eyes, he turns his head to look at me and a hint of shock appears on his face before it is quickly masked. He smirks and wiggles his eyebrows

“Oh my~Is the chibiko trying to get handsy with me, a poor drunk boy?” I immediately roll my eyes when his stupid mouth opens

“Fuck off Mackerel, I thought I saw something on your neck. I never knew you had a mole.” I mutter, being too tired for his shit. All Dazai does is sit up and his smirk widens

“Why, I’m not obligated to tell Chuuya everything about myself, am I?” Of course he’s going to tease me over this.

“Obviously not shit-face.” I huff out, standing up and heading to the door when I hear a noise. I turn back around and see Dazai out of bed, grinning like the mad-man he is.

“How mean of you Chu-ya. Leaving a poor beautiful maiden like myself to sleep in this cold, dark room. Alone.” He fake sniffles and I throw a punch, he easily doges it, sidestepping to the right.

“Knock that shit off, you ain't no damsel in distress. And you always sleep alone, what’s changed your mind huh?” This night just won’t end will it? I just want to sleep for Arahabaki’s sake. Dazai looks a bit taken aback by my adamance he is no maiden. That’s when it clicks.

“You having ‘nother one of your dysmorphia episodes ain’t you?” He blinks and I know I’ve gotten it right.

“Ughh I hate when my dog actually uses his tiny brain.” He whines like a toddler.

“Yeah, yeah. Whatever.” I sigh, am I actually going to do this? I probably won’t sleep, I mean what sane guy lets his sorta-best friend who he’s made out with a few times, sleep in his bed? I walk out of Dazai’s room and across the hall to my room, looking back over my shoulder I see him staring at me with those fishy red-brown eyes, reminding me of the color our sink gets stained after one of his attempts.

“What are you just standing there for? I might as well let you sleep in my room, knowing you, if I don’t let you then you will complain and bitch the rest of the week.” He grins and darts over messing up my hair

“Good doggie! Letting your master sleep in your bed like a good boy!” He taunts

Note: Crack, OOC even maybe, random ideas at 2AM while I do the Honkai grinding. Might do a Genshin version later if I feel like it. Genre: Crack, fluff, if you squint hard enough there'll be 4th wall breaking and some spoilers for Storm Bringer.

Sometimes when he's too lazy or bored he'll throw the phone to you or Atsushi to help him with the daily tasks.

HATES, absolutely hates Otto with a fierce passion. Will switch to Chinese VA if he had to or simply unplug the headphones when he doesn't want to changes VA back and forth too much.

Man started you by almost jumped out of the bed when he first heard Otto's voice in Memorial Arena.

Was suprised af hearing Welt's voice too. Will use that as the reason to 'persuade' Kunikida into playing the game.

"Hey Atsushi-kun, help me a bit will you? Just skip the materials event and play enough to reach 600 BP points and you're good to go!"

With that said, he threw the phone to his subordinate and immediately went to lay down on the couch. Poor Atsushi knows nothing and was fumbling with it for a good while until you took Dazai's phone from his hands.

"It's alright, I will do it for him. You can get back to work, sorry for that, Atsushi."

Chuuya:

Is okay with it actually because he does want to relive some stress, and because you told him to cut out on the cigarettes so he needs something that can distract him.

Enjoys the story enough to play the game with you. That is, until he read Void Heavens & Diane's Sojourn.

Was crying at the part when Herrescher of Void told Fu Hua that Kiana's existence is built upon lies and that she only exists to serve as her vessel.

He cries for the whole night in your arms because that reminds him of what he's been through back then. He was lucky enough that he is, actually a real human being. Still, deep down sometimes he wishes he could be a normal person, for if weren't because of Arahabaki inside him, he wouldn't had to suffer like that.

Didn't touch the game for a whole week after he finished Thunders over Nagazora.

Cries even harder after the end of Theater of Domination and the birth of Herrescher of Flamescion.

Immediately whale for Kiana. He whaled so much in just ONE DAY that Hoyoverse had to contact him and ask is he sure that he wants to continue the transaction.

He had all Kiana's battlesuits at SSS and with proper stigmata sets + weapons for them.

Did whale for Himeko as well because why not? Aunt Himeko deserves it ❤

Those doesn't left even a dent in his black card. Will let you whale as well, as long as his princess is happy ❤

"You have quite the collection there, Chuuya. By this rate they're gonna give you a Kiana golden statue as a gift."

"They are?!"

Chuuya widened his eyes in suprise. He didn't expect to get anything back, he just wanted to see Kiana's growth, for he saw a glimpse of himself in the valkyrie. He admires those with a strong will like that, maybe it was a part of his younger self who admires the heroes in those stories which he convinces himself that he will never become someone like them.

"Well, they might be. I heard that a company use to sent a wedding ring as a token of appreciation for their most loyal customer." (*)

Kunikida:

Absolutely not. He "will not waste his time on such things."

Too busy to afford a hobby, no?

But when Dazai shows him Welt's voice?

He was so suprised his jaws could fall off right there on his desk.

Still not going to play because he insists you that his schedule is already packed. But he will listen to you when you ramble about the game though.

Might ask you to lend him your phone so he can read the story at one point.

He bursted out at the last bubble universe in In The Deep where Welt, Herrescher of Reason turns his back against humanity instead of fighting for them like he always did.

He was scared that he might become like that. Sasaki and the Azure King case still haunts him. He was afraid that one day he will be like him when he is fed up and let his ideals consumes him.

Please hug the man. He deserves a vacation and someone who'd be there for him.

Fyodor:

Honestly, he isn't too fond of the idea of playing games and such.

Will try because of curiosity when you show him Otto's voice.

Does read the story properly, and whilst he shows no interests in the valkyries, he find the Overseer amusing.

Is one hell of a lucky man as well.

When he saw Dazai in the Memorial Arena rankings, he'd starts a race to beat the other. He does owns enough valkyries and equipments, but if he felt it isn't enough he'll whale just to beat Dazai. Of course that's the same case for our beloved detective.

Isn't happy after he finishes Kolosten and Thus Spoke Apocalypse. He doesn't understand why does Otto have to go so far for Kallen.

Is amused again when he saw the fake Otto in A Post-Honkai Odyssey though.

Eventually will quit the game after Otto is gone because it no longer amuses him.

short drabble/oneshot about pm mafia osamu dazai x fem.reader.

ABOUT: just a rainy night in where osamu dazai treats you harshly, but in the finale, he softens.

You weren't exactly a fan of rainy days at night. Even if only small drops of water fell, they bothered you a lot. You had always wondered why you hated the rain, others loved it, some just liked it and others hated it, you fell into the latter category.

In your life, you were a kind of human being. You thought no, you were so ashamed by the guilt of the crimes you committed in the Port Mafia. You couldn't let go of all those thoughts, they always tormented and haunted you. Your head hurt, but at least the small drops cooled your forehead.

You sighed and rubbed your forehead, leaning your body against a dark, time-worn wall. You found yourself in a simple, dead-end alley. He had taken a short break to smoke a cigarette and relax. Now you were wondering if you were similar to Chuuya Nakahara? Could it be that Dazai Osamu thought that? You weren't sure, but you felt empty inside.

Just as you began to relax along with your muscles, even closing your eyes as you crossed your arms, the faint sound of shoes approaching and a gun, more specifically, a gun reloading, entered your ears. You open your eyes and there is your partner: Osamu Dazai.

Speaking of him, your relationship with him wasn't the best, he usually made fun of you, made you feel bad and then smirked, oh how sadistic he is! At the same time you would fight with him, verbally or sometimes physically.

"My, my, look who I found so depressed. The bother to the Port Mafia!" His voice resonates in your head like an echo, it reminded you so much of a tumor that you couldn't get rid of it, but you suffered at the same time. The longer you stayed by his side, the more you suffered.

"Could you stop making fun of me like that once and for all? It really bothers too much, it also offends," You responded, your tone firm, but somewhat muffled by the cigarette in the corner of your mouth, smoke emanating.

"That's my goal, you know? Screw your life because I don't give a shit about you," Osamu adds, with an 'innocent' smile just for his opinion, because in yours it was just a twisted, mocking smile that made your stomach turn.

"Fuck you," you mutter tiredly, grabbing the cigarette from your mouth, throwing it on the floor and stepping on it to turn it off.

"You are so mean!" He says in a somewhat dramatic tone, but with indifference. His gun was kept in his coat pocket, trying to come out and be used to commit atrocities.

"Whatever," you roll your eyes with a sigh and that's when you get a vibration coming from your phone, you answer the call and it was no one but your boss: Mori. "Yes, Boss?"

The brown-haired young man simply yawns silently and lets out an exaggerated sigh as he watches you talk to Mori, so respectfully. Sometimes he himself wondered why you didn't hate him or didn't like his personality, because he didn't like Mori.

After a few minutes, you simply hang up with a simple "Bye" before putting your phone back in your pocket and starting to walk out of the alley, without saying a word.

Dazai follows you, with a solemn expression, like the one he had most of the time. He walks next to you and can't help but ask you about it: "What did you talk to the boss about?"

"Nothing important, he just canceled the mission since the others will take care of it, they gave us a day off. And look how relieved I am to not have to do the mission with you, thank God. Now you can leave," you wave him off with a gesture.

"Oh! But don't think I'll get off that easy. You know that I like to make you suffer," he says with an inaudible sigh, but noticeable in his tone of voice. You were unbearable for him, but at the same time he stayed by your side, even if it was to make fun of you. Contradictory.

"Just go. You make my stomach turn," you repeat, with a slightly more frustrated tone.

"What can I say... Sometimes it's fun to see how you cry," he responds, placing his hands in his pockets as he followed you, even though you didn't want to.

[TIMESKIP]

At the end of it all, even though you didn't want to, you were forced to let Dazai accompany you to a place you always went to when you wanted to relax. By then it had stopped raining, but the night still continued, with crickets chirping, the moon shining, and tiny stars decorating the sky. You would think of a simple place, a bridge that was over a large, deep lake. You always liked that place, feeling the breeze and staying dangerously on the sidelines.

When you were near the bridge, it was right at the exit of one last alley. Your pace was relaxed, accompanied by Dazai's, but in the silence of the environment, Osamu decided to speak, ruining the beauty of silence for you, "You know, sometimes I wonder if you have ever wondered if you were 'the weakest' member of the mafia. You always were, you always are, you understand?"

You gave his words a twist, you were about to fall for his words and feel bad, but this time you resisted, you just frowned and stayed in the alley. "No, Dazai, no. I'm not the weakest member, I'm strong enough to deserve to be in the mafia."

He blinks and smirks Machiavellianly. "That's what you think, miss," he pauses. "

"Remember that your parents died because of you, you couldn't save them. You failed to save their lives when they needed it most. What will they think of what you did, (first name)?"

Your heart stops for a fraction of a millisecond and your eyes open slightly, letting out a soft gasp. His words made you remember that dark past again. "Please don't remember me..." Vivid images of the blood that abounds in your house flash in your mind. You had once returned to your house, and there were the bloody bodies of your relatives, with their organs removed and their eyes bulging. A lump forms in your throat and you try to resist tears.

"Very well, this is what I want to see, a face saddened by the suffering of guilt..." His hand goes to your chin and lifts it up, so that his eyes are looking at him. He enjoyed the small tears forming in your eyes.

"Just leave me alone, okay?" You tell him with a brittle voice, your voice breaking and giving way to a small whimper. "You already made me feel bad."

"Good to know," he chuckles darkly.

You wiped away your tears and continued on your way, although you had the Mafioso behind you, delighted with your expression.

You quickened your pace out of the narrow street, letting out a weak sigh as you saw the streetlights illuminating the dark streets of the city of Yokohama, Japan. You walked towards the bridge. You didn't even want to be next to him, you knew Dazai would be there and his stupid reminders made you cry sometimes. Upon reaching the lake, you sit on its edge, with your feet looking at what is below: a deep, dark lake at night. Dazai is sitting next to you, one foot resting on the edge, knee bent, and the other hanging off the edge. He lets out a sigh.

In the silence, you feel his body move closer to yours, wrapping his hand around your shoulder, smiling, "You know what? Maybe I don't regret saying those things to you too much, but as a reward for my actions, maybe you could use a little bit of physical contact."

A bit rushed, but... Yeah, hope you guys enjoyed.

i was wondering if i could ask, in this post you say this about sskk:

The point is that Akutagawa represents everything Atsushi doesn’t want to accept about himself (the violence, the possibility of being left behind, how pathetic and wrong it is to let one’s worth being decided by others’ praise etc.). At the same time Atsushi is the same for Akutagawa.

…and i assume the same is true for skk (the soukoku curse… but also the very reason they work so well together). my opinion on what Chuuya sees mirrored in Dazai is something you talk about in this post (which is quite possibly my favorite bsd meta i’ve ever read… you put into words so well the ideas that have been circulating in my head for months!!)

…deep down Chuya wants to die…This is why he is so disturbed by Dazai's suicidal tendencies. He sees a dark mirror of himself in the other boy.

Chuuya “hates” Dazai because he sees his struggle staring back at him— the temptation he is constantly having to fight against, Dazai is pursuing. why does Chuuya fight it? because he is always trying to find an anchor for his humanity.

so i was wondering if you have any thoughts on what Dazai sees mirrored in Chuuya that makes him “hate” Chuuya (except they really just hate that part of themselves)

Dazai's skill is called No Longer Human because he feels inhuman:

"He's already dead," said Chuuya. "Quit shooting his corpse." Dazai was puzzled. His expression was bizarrely childlike- fit for a boy his age, yet unlike any he had shown before. His lips suddenly curled into a gloomy smile. "You're right. When you're right, you're right. That's the most common reaction to have." (...) Dazai sees himself as wrong and thinks Chuya is far more normal than he is. Sure, he has an incredibly powerful skill, but deep down he is just another kid. This is why the reveal of Chuya's background leaves such an impact on Dazai:

Chuya: Arahabaki is me.

It forces him to look outside himself and to reconsider what it means to be human. The point of Dazai's character is that he thinks he is this impossible to read being, who stands above others. And yet, he is really a normal person. Not only that, but he is also pretty childish. He wants friends and grows attached to the few people who step into his loneliness (Mori, Chuya, Oda, Ango, Akutagawa, the ADA). And yet, he sucks at communicating with them out of fear, which leads to more problems than needed. In synthesis, the story of Dazai in Fifteen is really that of an emo kid, who discovers the jock has more reason than him to be emo.

This is why Chuya grows linked to the idea of humanity in Dazai's mind.

In short, Dazai reminds Chuya of his wish to die/live, while Chuya reminds Dazai of his monstrosity/humanity. Death/life and monster/human are the two themes that are intertwined in Chuya and Dazai's relationship. So, Dazai is both drown and envious of Chuya because Chuya is really a normal person, who is also a born monster. Dazai himself is instead human, but he feels a monster (no longer human) hence why he is lonely. To summarize:

Chuya is repulsed by Dazai because he embodies his own suicidal tendencies.

Dazai is envious of Chuya because he is a monster, who feels like a person more than Dazai.

As for your second question, yes, Chuya and Dazai definately care for each other:

Fifteen is the story of how Dazai and Chuya find a friend, basically. They both can't act their age because they are too different from their peers (too smart and too strong respectively). Still, they behave as kids with each other.

Storm Bringer shows Dazai risking the destruction of the whole city to prove Chuya is human. He is also clearly the person who believes in Chuya's humanity the most.

Dead Apple has Chuya risk his life to save Dazai's and he is clearly worried about Dazai when he is hurt by Lovecraft.

On another note, even if you said you are not into shipping... I really do think the subtext of Chuya and Dazai's relationship is meant to be read as romantic. Or at least as teasing... Two examples:

Dead Apple has Dazai play Snowhite and Chuya play the Prince

Storm Bringer parallels Chuya and Dazai's partnership with Verlaine and Rimbaudt, who have had a pretty famous love story

Dazai loathes late summer afternoons. Not only because of the sun, but also because of the sun. And Kunikida telling him to stop complaining when he wears bandages anyway. But they can’t remove them. The only layer of protection they have from the world. Or the world has from them. The lines are too blurred now to tell.

Dazai, for someone who regularly deals with the unexpected, is predictably whiny. And melting. They are laying across Chuuya’s couch with the thinnest shirt they could find and even that’s too much. They can’t take it off.

Unlike Chuuya, who has absolutely 0 reservations on sporting what is essentially just shorts. He is gracious enough to give Dazai a direct line of sight to the reminder that he works out quite often for his job. But they aren’t the type to say anything directly. Where’s the fun behind that? The meaning?

“Yokohama should never be this warm! Japan should not be this warm!!” Dazai grumbled, plopping themselves right in front of the fan.

“You think I like it any better than you do?”

“You’re a dog. Don’t dogs love being outside in the sun?”

”they don’t love burn- I’m not a dog!!” Dazai ducks a swing to the head, laughing far too much to fight back. Almost forgetting about the sweat trickling down Chuuya’s neck. His jaw. Dazai is not the type to stare. Dazai is also a liar.

“You are! Look- you’re still wearing that choker of yours. That collar.~” Chuuya huffs and takes it off out of momentary spite, but Dazai has already won.

“Bingo!” They lean in and press a messy kiss to Chuuya’s pulse point, grinning at the reflexive cough. Years and he still acts surprised. Cute- not that Dazai would admit such a thing. “You’re the worst.”

“Just the way you like it-“ Dazai kisses him again, a little lower. Unfortunately for them a drop of sweat decided to reach the exact spot even without gravity manipulation, landing right in Dazai’s mouth. “Ew Ew!! Gross bleh! I don’t want Chuuya’s nasty sweat!”

“Oi- I don’t want to hear it from Mr.24 in 1 skincare routine.” Dazai pouts, still trying to spit out their entire mouth melodramatically. They steal half of Chuuya’s products, but that also doesn’t require mentioning.

“I don’t see the need to smell like whisky and roses all day-“ And such as is the natural order of things, Chuuya pulled them in and pressed his lips to their jaw. A safe spot. A spot that would always spread warmth to the rest of his skin from now on. Safe.

Dazai is safe here.

“Maybe so you don’t rot alone?” Chuuya presses another to his wrist, and then playfully shoves Dazai away. If they weren’t so enamored, falling off the couch and out of the fan’s grace would have hurt much more.

Because of how this fandom is, and because of the many ways it is possible to understand and interpret Dazai's character, due to a lot of leeway left by canon on purpose, the character that I focus on to see if the writing is good or not, is Chuuya himself.

With ALL of what we have of him and the amount of efforts Asagiri put into presenting his character, the least people could do is portraying him somewhat accurately but noooooo.

It's also because of the random gender roles people put on Soukoku and on Chuuya, specifically when he bottoms, that I've come to dislike most portrayals of that. Sure, again, he can bottom but whyyyyyyy is he acting like that?????

Ugh. Whatever. I just gave up on both eating the cake and have it too (unless it's by a very narrow amount of specific writers, you included, duh-), such is the life of a fic reader with no drive to writer at all 😭

But yeah. Dazai mischaracterization can make sense and this time, it was an AU, so I gave it leeway just for the peak Chuuya badasery on display. I love him.

I do not understand how Chuuya mischaracterization happens though, and how it's so rampant, and I just. Can't stand it. At all.

Like, is he one, then technically yeah, specifically he was one towards The Flags due to how he couldn't bring himself to trust them at all, which made SENSE, and how unused he was to being cared for, which ALSO made sense! The term tsundere, and its representation, got bastardized in recent anime culture to just mean someone who acts violently but is secretly a blushing mess at all times that can't string two sentences together if it's not verbal abuse, which is... On the subject of Dazai and switching tho, it's funny because I always figured that he wouldn't bottom for anyone OTHER than Chuuya, specifically because of how much he prefers it for one, and that denying himself from what he likes is like... A Thing™, with Dazai but also due to how much vulnerability it'd show of him, and of how much power he'd leave in the hands of the person with him. He'd absolutely hate that.

Which, then actually makes sense, if he uses sex with other people as a tool for self harming. And god knows plenty would love to hurt him like that. Mhm. I don't like that.

How do you feel about possessive/jealous Chuuya? Usually, it's Dazai that's portrayed like that, as "down bad" and sure, whatever, he is tho often not like how they write him, But I find Chuuya rarely seen through this lense? (I mean, accurately, not in the "anime jealous highschool girl" kind that he is portrayed as in the fics that take "Tsundere Chuuya" seriously) Which, sometimes make sense, but other times, people just portray their dynamic with Dazai clinging to hell and back and Chuuya just. Hating it.

You once mentioned, in a comment I left on one of your fic, that people often add a power dynamic to Soukoku that is just inexistent in canon, a power imbalance with Dazai holding the reins and Chuuya just. Forced to follow him or something? And I felt like that's one of the things that come with that, you know?

Personally, love possessive/protective Chuuya. Actually, I just love mutually obsessed Soukoku, which. Is what they are. I just live how, whatever energy one bring to the table, the other matches it in some way, it makes their dynamic sooooooo... Dynamic! You know what I mean, lmao?

I can definitely understand cutting the fic some slack because of that. The way I see it, the thing about Dazai, is that he has a shit ton of layers, and even if you represent one of his surface level ones as deeper than it actually is—or even as his core—then you’re still presenting some part of him, and sometimes people accidentally make their work seem satire through doing this, and satirizing the way Dazai presents himself creates an allusion to a more genuine version of him. This is what Asagiri does, by complete accident, imo. I don’t think Dazai is truly as well written as he can be perceived to be, which is why everything Asagiri says about him is always SO far-off and just. Insane. But, this also leads to the fandom accidentally portraying him pseudo-accurately. Meanwhile, Chuuya is honestly pretty… Simple. If you have character-analysis capabilities. Which the fandom does not and that happens to lead to… Whatever the fuck they turn him into. This fic has the opposite problem which is surprisingly rare in the fandom. I hate this fic’s version of Dazai with a burning passion I’m not even going to sugarcoat it anymore. He’s so un-Dazai. What the fuck. (No hate to the author they can do whatever they want forever, but me hating their portrayal is part of MY right to, also, do what I want forever)

I don’t have any strong opinions on the term tsundere, but I do agree with you. If you were to take the less… honestly fetishized version of that kind of character, and were to make a better archetype from it, Chuuya would definitely share traits with that archetype. And especially so in relation to The Flags, yes. He is never that to Dazai, though. Their relationship can’t be trope-fied no matter how much the fandom tries. The fandom is always like “Omg they can fit so many tropes 💗💕 They’re so versatile 🥰” Sweetheart…… That is called…… Not fitting a trope? If a character is more complex than the trope, then they… don’t fit in that trope…? You can water them down so they fit it, sure, and that is what fanon does, but that doesn’t mean they actually do.

About the Dazai switching thing, I actually have a pretty complex opinion on that. I don’t think Dazai enjoys sex (with people other than Chuuya), regardless of the role he plays. And especially so if he starts having sex before Chuuya and doesn’t have any idea what enjoyable sex even is like, or that it’s possible. It’s just that the people he would naturally seek out—the people that would be capable of hurting him most—would definitely want him to bottom. Which is also why I always imagine he sleeps exclusively with men, despite the fact that this being purely an act of self-harm means his sexuality isn’t a factor since his level of attraction and enjoyment is going to be the same regardless of gender. I do think that in the situation where he meets Chuuya and then gets separated from him in a way that makes him believe they’ll never reunite, that he would stick to topping. Precisely because he knows bottoming is something he is capable of liking, and that knowledge makes being subjected to the pain of not liking it even greater than it would be if he simply thought sex was a hoax, and it makes it a horrible mix of emotional and physical pain, too. At that point, I think he’d only accept to bottom if he wanted to hurt himself in an awful, irreparable way. Which definitely happens, but not very often, I’d say.

I also think, in this specific scenario, that he’d probably turn to sleeping with women more often. Because he views fucking a woman a lot easier than fucking a man (lack of prep 💔), and also because, again, he doesn’t really think of women as people and as such isn’t afraid of hurting one in the slightest, meanwhile, there might be the slightest sliver of guilt if he hurt a man through fucking him, it not because of his general reverence of them, because he sees himself in the other person. I just think he’s simply prefer women in this situation, though, but if the man is the one who approaches him and there’s nobody around to whom being gay could jeopardize his reputation he’s definitely not refusing.

Possessive/protective Chuuya, sure. I don’t think he’d ever be jealous, though. He’s too secure for that 😔 The only time he’d get mad about someone interacting with Dazai is if Dazai himself was uncomfortable with it, if Dazai is enjoying the interaction he genuinely doesn’t care. I believe Dazai is jealous because he’s so insecure in himself and, through viewing himself as worthless, he thinks there is nothing he can bring to the table that another person wouldn’t be able to. As such he thinks Chuuya enjoying interactions with other people is always going to be a threat, not because he distrusts Chuuya’s loyalty, but because he thinks he is so unworthy of anything good that Chuuya would, and has the right to ditch him, if he finds a better counterpart. Meanwhile Chuuya, despite everything, is confident in himself and knows his worth. He doesn’t beat his head with bullshit like jealousy or being scared Dazai will find someone else because 1) he trusts their bond 2) if Dazai does then that’s just… Good for him? Sure, he’d be bitter if Dazai left him behind entirely (which, you know, happens in canon), but he’d get over it if he notices that Dazai is doing good, as I think he does in canon. If Dazai manages to keep his relationship with that other person and Chuuya both intact, Chuuya wouldn’t give a fuck.

Case in point, Oda. Which is the last person Dazai had that he was anywhere close to being as close to as he was to Chuuya. I don’t think Chuuya ever had any negative feelings towards him. He knows Oda is a really good friend of Dazai’s, he knows Dazai is sometimes going to hang out with him instead of Chuuya, because they are friends, and he doesn’t mind any of it.

I do think he’d get really protective if someone was bothering Dazai, though. I have a longfic where this happens and my boy starts a bar fight 💀 And another one that I am actually currently working on (rare!!) where Dazai has to flirt with a guy for a mission and the only reason that bothers Chuuya is because he knows Dazai is mighty uncomfortable doing it.

I do think they’re mutually obsessed, though. Just in different ways.

Unpopular opinion of the ROR fandom, I don't like that they pair gods with humans, don't get me wrong, I don't hate people who pair them but I don't really see the point. ☠️

An example is with TetonPosy (my favorite 🥰), I don't like Poseidon x Kojiro, seriously, I don't like it, unfortunately for me the fandom in Spanish (I don't know if the same thing happens in the English one), almost always (if not always) they pair it with Kojiro. And Poseidon never showed interest in Kojiro, instead he detested him, damn it, at which point Poseidon showed that he felt attached to the human that he considered inferior.

Also the fact that my favorite tenton died at the hands of the Japanese, and that he is old:( (all the other humans, even over 100 years old, look young and Kojiro doesn't, he looks like an old man; and he is (ignoring that the gods are greater than them). I don't like him per se, and Kojiro's appearance doesn't improve overall. For me (fucked personal opinion), seeing a couple where one looks young person with that appearance and being with someone with an elderly appearance is ... strange (sorry if it sounds controversial, but that's how I think

The people pairing Qin and Hades is another example, saying that they are kings of both worlds among other things, yes I admit that Hades recognized Qin but as far as I remember it was because it reminded him of Poseidon. They even dared to steal the phrase quoted by Poseidon and put it to Qin .😡

It's that of: a perfect god, blah blah, I don't remember what else was about the phrase (I forgot it)

but not all characters in a ship need to have interacted with each other in canon.

one thing you gotta know about shipping, is that it doesn't need to make a point. it doesn't need to make sense. people pretty much just ship what they want. it's just a fun lil thing, we're basically little girls playing with our barbie dolls and making them kiss each other 🤷‍♀️ it doesn't matter if character a canonically hates character b's guts and would never romantically like them, or if character c and character d never interacted.

literally one person just needs to take a look at these characters and go "hmmm i think they would go well together" and bam, a ship is born. there doesn't need to be a reason or a point to it

but i get what you mean about how shippers annoy you. lately jjk shippers are starting to annoy me too (they doxx and bully ppl who like over ships they dont personally like, and accuse boy x girl shippers of homophobia because of it 💀 ppl really need to stop acting as if their gay ship is a form of activism, its not). i haven't seen any toxicity in the ror fandom over their ships yet and that's probably because the fans aren't from america (which is where the majority of those crazy toxic shippers are from)

when an anime/manga's fandom gets too toxic for me, i honestly just stay away. i focus more on reading theories and analyses rather than admire fanarts featuring a ship and stuff like that, which helps in twitter cuz my timeline changes

Bungo Stray Dogs Season 5 Anime Review

Includes Spoilers

First part of this season by episode 5 I was disgusted. You see the team get back together well partially and then watch each die. The moment I saw them kill of Akutagawa I went sick. Literally watching them hurt Tachihara irritated me.

They were killing people off left and right and you also saw them all start getting turned into vampires because of Fukuchi that runs the hunting dogs. He is almost invincible I mean I used to think that Fyodor was the worst but this guy is way worse. I would much rather deal with Fyodor, however him killing (knocking him out fingers crossed) Sigma annoyed me cause Sigma grew on me.

I thought Dazai had knocked him off by drowning him to find out SOB still survived. But when that vampire shoved that pole into his stomach I almost rejoiced like if it was the wicked witch dead kinda thing. As time goes on its not hard to see Ranpo is the one controlling most of this season. Its different because he is always the one that only steps up in criminal things but damn this boy taking over and stepping up and being in control and dominant makes him so hot.

Watching Fukuzawa get stabbed broke my heart was so glad it ended up not killing him. Then I had to watch him his childhood best friend which brought me to tears. I hated Fukuchi it felt like no one could beat that asshole not even Jouno.

Is it bad I still feel like Jouno reminds me of saint germain in code realize lol.

I loved how Kenji handle things with Tetchō Suehiro, because he flipped his shit and honestly I had no clue this boy was so deadly he looks so cute all the time. Haha guess you really do have to worry about the sweet looking ones. I mean take Ranpo this season he stepped his shit up so much that I felt like season 4 and 5 gave him a directive of who he was. Not gonna lie though I was worry Kenji would kill him and that would have been a waste cause Tetchō Suehiro is hot.

The vampire king Bram the connection he made to Aya Koda then for you to see its because she reminds him of his daughter that I presume died or he lost. Then when she saves him and he bows before her I loved it he was like I'm lord and count but in this moment I am your knight, that was sweet and honorable too.

I didn't like Akutagawa being a vampire however at the very end when him and Atsushi were taking in that last fight I loved know that Akutagawa was back to his normal self as hot as ever.

I feel like season 5 was all over the place however its a season that keeps you on edge because when you think you know whats going to happen something happens changing that. I will say after all the seasons this is still by far my favorite anime because there are hot guys in it, great voice actors, cool characters and abilities, it has the ability to make me laugh, get angry, get happy, and cry all in one show. Thats not something you find often and for that reason I can't wait for more of this show.

Some other honorable mentions of this season. Dazai of course even though he was behind the scenes alot he was also deep in Fyodor's head and the reason that man is dead. Then psycho dude Nikolai Gogol weird he is a cool looking character but I swear he is sadistic and weird and the reason why the set in motion for the detective agency to get so messed up. He can look cool just wish he would look cool and shut up.

Chuuya pretending to be a vampire was different like to me there wasn't enough Chuuya in this season and I would have loved to see him as a vampire without the stupid red eyes. I thought they really messed up the look of the vampires in that way.

Also this was a cool move Akutagawa did and is it just me but before he became a vampire that man got hotter, maybe its just cause I went season 4 without him and Chuuya for the most part so I became touch starved by these men.

Granted some of the others were in the picture but very little besides Atsushi he is always the heart in the background or in the front and I love him for that. Not to mention when him and Akutagawa fight and he gives the were tiger his power too so bad ass.

Anyways now I get to go through withdraw until a new season however you can plan to see some fan fic some hot and steamy as well as fluff of these sexy men. If you have yet to see it definitely check it out. Its not normally my type but the characters are so relatable, sexy, charming etc you won't want to stop watching.

I definitely feel like due to his pride, Chuuya would definitely be scared to ask for help and would rather let himself fail than ask (just like me fr). He wants to be seen as independent by others so he thinks that means he’s not allowed to ask for assistance/help for anything he does which bites him in the ass sometimes :(

REMINDER THAT IT’S OK TO ASK FOR HELP, EVEN IF IT SEEMS STUPID TO YOU. And if someone judges you for asking for help, kick them in the balls. (Just know that at least you’re learning something when you ask for help and they’re just little stupid heads cause they don’t wanna learn like you do.)
