the family leaves little reminders around the shack in case stan has little lapses in his memory, like the portal room (probably turned ford's lab and his bedroom is where the wax figures used to be they just put furniture in there [he never sleeps there he just sleeps on the couch in the basement]) has a sticky note on the desk reading "Stanley, If you're about to work on the portal and find that it isn't there, don't panic! I am safe and sound, if it's nighttime you may find me in my study (the above floor), the very room you're standing in, or my bedroom, what was previously your wax museum. Otherwise, do call me and I'll come running! As of writing this, my contact name is "spare parts" in your cellular phone. -Your favorite anomaly, Stanford" (and he'd put a little doodle or something of a little six-fingered thumbs up) (he'd definitely call it a cellular phone do you know how much i can pull from pearl for this fucker)

and mabel has a family photo taped to the fridge (which i wanna think is really chaotic, stan wendy and mabel are making the dumbest faces possible, soos is the only one genuinely trying but he's doing a duck face which doesnt really work for ANY photos let alone family photos, ford isn't even facing the camera and dipper is actively tripping over his shoelace halfway on-frame because he was the one who set up the camera and had to run back to get in the picture) with a note saying good morning to him and that they all love him just to make sure he knows that (DAMN most of that was just about the photo mb)

soos has an adult adoption certificate framed in the gift shop (come on he definitely adopted him shut the fuck up im a sucker for found family)

dipper diligently copies every new picture and scrapbook page as mabel makes them and keeps a thick binder of them updated (its on stan's nightstand, with detailed notes on everything that's happened to them when mabel misses some parts)

i doubt it ever fully prevents stan from freaking out if he suddenly finds himself in a place he doesn't remember, but i like to think he feels very fond about looking through that scrapbook, memory-lapse or not (and maybe he goes around and looks through all those notes when he's feeling a little down because it makes him think about how much his family cares about him.. but he'll never tell)

Have you heard of the comic "Bone" by Jeff Smith? Apparently Matt Braly took heavy inspiration from that comic for the structure of his series Amphibia, and having recently read the comic it does feel funny looking back at Amphibia and see it as Matt's version of Bone.

To paraphrase what someone about Bone:

teehee silly little cartoon guy protagonists teehee they make jokes and are round. but then the main villain is. a reanimated corpse possessed by an ancient deity that manifests as a swarm of locusts.

I have! My sibling has the full series, so I'll go and reread it on occasion.

It is very funny to learn this information, because, after watching Amphibia in full, I was like "haha this kinda reminds me of that Bone series lol" and. Look at that.

Also laughing because the main duo in both is literally "human girl with a sword who later discovers she's got powers and fun little nonhuman guy who doesn't really have a lot of friends and they're best friends who kick butt"

Now that Ghibli's new movie is coming out soon, I've been thinking about anime films and wanna talk about my favorite animated movie ever, Tokyo Godfathers.

TG is a 2003 tragicomedy by Satoshi Kon, following three unhoused people––an alcoholic, a runaway girl, an a trans woman––who find a baby in a dumpster and set off across Tokyo to reunite her with her parents.

If you like the sound of that, go watch it because the rest of this post is spoilers and I have FEELINGS about this movie.

URGHH, the fact that only two moments of true kindness, generosity, and care given to the three protagonists without any expectation of reciprocity are given by a Latin-American immigrant couple and a drag club full of queens and trans women. The fact that, despite her loud and dramatic personality, Hana is the glue that holds the team together and the heart of the whole movie. The fact that this movie pulls no punches at showing the violence and inhumanity committed by "civilized Japanese society" against the unhoused. The fact that Miyuki craves to be loved by her parents and ends up seeing Hana as her true mother. The fact that Miyuki starts off accidentally using transphobic language against Hana, but slowly begins calling her "Miss Hana" out of respect. The fact that, according to Kon, Hana's role in the story is as a mythological trickster god and "disturb the morality and order of society, but also play a role in revitalizing culture." The fact that Hana so desperately wants to be part of a true family, yet is willing to sacrifice her found family so they can be with their own, and is rewarded for her good deeds in the end by becoming a godmother. The fact that, throughout the movie, wind and light have been used to signify the presence of god's hand/influence (this movie's about nondenominational faith––faith in yourself, faith in others, faith in a higher power. Lots of religious are referenced, such as Buddhism/Hinduism, Christianity, and Shintoism), and in the climax of the film, as Hana jumps off a building to save a baby that isn't hers, a gust of wind and a shower of light save her from death. The fact that god saves a trans woman's life because she proved herself a mother, and that shit makes me CRY.
