in defense of those somewhat sad kaneelbroodjes, vegan pastries can have issues rising and staying together. vegan replacement(s) work very similarly to non-vegan ingredient(s) in a recipe (binding, give stability, moisten, etc) but don't have all the same chemicals so they can't work exactly the same.

for example, rennet is used in the cheesemaking process to coagulate the milk to start, y'know, making the cheese. animal rennet is often used, but there are also plant, microbial, and fermentation-based rennets. rennet is necessary for the right texture and final flavor of a cheese. some cheese are trademarked (like parmigiano reggiano) and can only be made with a specific type of rennet (parm reg uses animal rennet). if a different rennet is used, you'll get something close enough in taste/texture to be just like the original cheese but still not identical.

all of that is to say: vegan replacements can and do work but aren't perfect since they don't have everything the original ingredient has, which means the final product may look (and taste/feel) different.

yeah i know! i mean, i wasn't good at it but i've baked a little in my time, and better bakers than me can def make excellent vegan pastries, those just suck cause they're cheap and mass produced; they're not vegan on purpose, just cause they're using cheaper ingredients lol. if you go to a vegan bakery there's tons of amazing stuff that tastes and looks just as good as their non-vegan counterparts

i didn't know about the cheese being trademarked though that's interesting! imo a lot of vegan cheeses kinda suck on their own (at least the ones available here) but they're fine as an ingredient in or on other food

Farmers Markets are very fun! As long as it's cool enough. I don't go in summer cause I don't do well in the heat. But I just went to my favorite one that opened recently for the season last weekend. It was nice weather.

Mine sells lots of fresh produce and plants, dried fruits and ready made foods like pizza, popcorn, waffles, ice cream, lots of things! There's bakers and cheese vendors, and other things like dried pasta and honey and specialty items like sauces or jams. AND homemade items like straw hats and artwork and jewelry, and dresses! I'm not sure Farmers Markets usually have all the extras but I imagine so!

Okay here we go! Something like this with a large brim sunhat!

We go when it opens and bring a few tote bags. We need to invest in a cart! We'll see who has what before we buy because sometimes multiple people are selling the same thing but the quality and price will be different!

We want to get the best produce so hit that first! From one vendor we get zucchini and tomatoes, apples and bananas, from other, pineapple and lemons, peppers and carrots. This is our normal gatherings! If the season is offering fresh strawberries he gets cartons (yes, many!) of them and we have to bring the produce to the car before continuing on haha. We gets greens, winter squash and other berries as well. We need a cart I said! We have a mini spat about all the strawberries but I let him have his way and honestly we'll get through most of them and freeze some.

Okay we're back from the car again, and this guy is ready to eat like he didn't just make us breakfast a little while ago. It's brunch so we take a few minutes to sit down with waffles, muffins and fruit water/smoothies. He gets strawberry, no surprise there, and I like nut milk smoothies.

We like sitting and talking under the shade of the umbrella and people watch. We keep talking about taking Murphy our pup since there's so many other dogs, but want to train him more before throwing him into the middle of all these people and their dogs, and want him trained more to stay with us. As of now he still is very excitable. But we'll bring him some fancy homemade treats home!

We generally stay together, or at least in the same area, maybe wandering to the stall next door if the other is taking their time.

We are bad about dried fruit and get pineapple and mango, and if we are splurging, pears and cherries. I don't know who is supposed to be keeping track of finances here but today it's neither of us apparently LOL.

We like fresh bread and agree to get one two loaves. One rye and one wheat. They smell delicious! Maybe a couple other small pastry items to take home. Who can pass up a pumpkin muffin or blueberry lemon bar!?

We look at things like homemade jams, it's easier to buy then to make so sometimes get them. Also honey and maple syrups. Sometimes we'll look at dairy but usually skip. If there's a good deal on eggs we'll get them.

We are all about the food but do look at other things. We'd like more plants but need something simple. While I get a basil plant he's buying me a sunflower and lilac bouquet :D We get a hanging plant as well for the kitchen window area.

And look, it's time to eat...again! This time we share a small woodfire pizza and get vegan ice cream as well! Though Jean eats meat which is cool with me, he is open to vegetarian or vegan options. He raves about the vanilla and says it's better than the dairy version. He's very considerate when he does have meat and has cut way down on it. He says it's better for him anyway.

Okay back to the market! We've been through the fresh food and ready to eat, and the plant area. Oh and didn't forget the dog treats for Murphy. So we look at the straw hats though we both have. Also the recycled totes which, again, we have. But we look just incase.

Neither of us wear much jewelry so skip it, but look at the handmade wooden cutting boards and coasters. We have so many kitchen things but these are so nice that we get a couple of bowls. We also think about coasters for gifts.

There's some stalls with dresses, handbags and sunglasses (this is where we split up haha). I get a dress and Jean gets another pair of sunglasses, neither of which we need haha. (A version of my dress :) )

Other stalls have soaps and candles which we look at but don't usually buy, same which more handcrafted items and artwork. Again, maybe as gifts. But there is a papercraft vendor who has things like bookmarks and greeting cards and wall prints, and also magnets and keychains. The stuff is so cute we usually get a few things. They do customization too so it's a great gift for most events!

So, now we have run out of money HAHA so, it's time to call it a day.

Department One: Apparel And Jewelry

What are you wearing today?  Just a white duster dress. Very loungewear-y, hahaha. I didn’t feel like wearing shorts today.

What does your favorite shirt look like?  At the moment I��m obsessed with my Vante shirt. It’s fanmade but it was made tastefully; the designs aren’t too loud and I love the cute little shoutouts and tributes to his past paintings, so it had been a ridiculously easy decision for me to want to buy it.

What kind of underwear do you prefer wearing?  Eh I don’t really have a preference as long as I don’t find them uncomfy.

What are your favorite kind of jeans?  I’m definitely still stuck in my mom jeans phase. Idk man, I just love how they match nearly all kinds of tops.

What do the last pair of shoes you wore look like?  They were adidas sneakers. Not a big fan of chunky shoes but it’s an Ivy Park and it was on a big discount HAHAHA so I didn’t hesitate to get them.

How many shoes do you own?  A little more than 10. I love shoes and wanna collect them someday...just not today, hahaha.

How much jewelry do you own?  Not too big on jewelry; most, if not all the ones I wear are just borrowed from my mom since we share the same style anyway.

Do you own any real diamonds or other expensive jewelry?  Yeah, the ones I would borrow from my mom are pretty pricey.

Has anyone ever gave you jewelry as a present?  Yes, I received rings and necklaces from my ex. One of my aunts also gave me a necklace when I turned 7.

Do you like diamonds or gemstones better?  I just stick with diamonds...which is...also a gemstone too, if I’m not mistaken.

Silver or gold?  Silver.

Department Two: Electronics

Do you have a DVD player in your car?  Not in mine, but we do have one in the family car. I used to watch movies on there often but after one grueling road trip where my motion sickness acted up, I haven’t wanted to use it since.

If you have one, what does your camera/camcorder look like?  I just use the camera in my phone but back in the day I used to have a DSLR; that was when I thought I wanted to take up photography, heh. It was a Nikon D3100.

How much did it cost?  I’m not sure since my dad gave it to me as a present, but a quick search told me it would’ve cost him around P20,000 which issssss wow more expensive than I thought.

What kind of cellphone do you have?  I have an iPhone 8 with an LCD screen that’s deteriorating by the day HAHA. I really need to get a new phone.

How often do you send texts?  I text just for work purposes now, so it really depends on how busy my accounts are. Some days would require me to send out more texts than usual.

Do you have your own computer or does your family share?  I have my own laptop. My workplace also provided me with what’s supposed to be my work laptop, but they had it sent to me when I was already a couple of months into my job and all my needed files and programs were already in my personal laptop. Since I was too lazy to start everything all over again, I’ve never actually used the work laptop haha.

How many computers are in your house?  We have three laptops in total - my siblings and I each have our own. Kind of a necessity these days.

Do you still have a VCR?  I don’t think so.

How many DVDs do you own?  We probably have around 30-50 but most of them are movies from like the 2000s that we just haven’t thrown out. Personally, I have about five DVDs of old films like Gone with the Wind, Rebel Without A Cause, Breakfast at Tiffany’s, etc, and recently I’ve been buying BTS merch so DVDs are part of that mix too.

Does your car have a GPS?  No. I use Waze on my phone instead.

What kind of iPod/MP3 player do you have? Haven’t used an iPod in like a literal decade. I use Spotify for my music.

How many songs are on it?  Spotify doesn’t work that way since it’s technically a database of songs.

What size is your TV?  Never bothered to ask/check.

How many TVs are in your house?  Four. Living room, dining room, master bedroom, my brother’s room.

What video game systems do you have?  We have a PS3 and PS4. 

What about handhelds?  Switch. I believe my sister also still has her DSi stored somewhere.

Department Three: Home

What kind of shampoo do you use?  It’s a Dove variant but I’m just blanking out on the specific name/what it does.

Soap or shower gel?  Shower gel.

What does your comforter look like?  It’s pretty colorful and has geometric shapes and lines.

Does it match your pillows?  Yep, they come in a set.

What size is your bed?  Twin.

Do you or your parents like to decorate the house with various things or is it plain?  My mom puts considerable effort in decorating the house but it’s nothing overboard that it feels tacky. There’s enough decor in enough spaces.

Does the furniture in your house match?  Sure. I imagine my mom would be very irritated if she felt something was uncoordinated at home.

What does your couch look like?  It’s a gray L-shaped couch. Gabie broke a portion of the couch’s springs when it had only spent its like first two weeks at home but surprisingly my mom has not noticed it yet; probably because she barely sits on that side.

How many does your dining room/kitchen table seat?  It has six chairs, though since we’re five one of the chairs is almost always unoccupied.

Do you have any fancy china?  No, my mom isn’t the type to collect those.

Do you have outside furniture?  Yeah we have a table and chairs up on the rooftop, if they count.

What do your curtains look like?  My siblings and I have pull-down blinds. The other rooms have these pulled-back gold curtains that’s accompanied by white sheers.

Department Four: Grocery

What kind of bread do you get?  Sliced white bread, always. Sometimes my mom will pick up pan de sal, but she gets those from a certain bakery and no longer the grocery.

What is your favorite kind of cake?  CHEEEEEEEEEESECAAAAAAAKE.

Do you get a lot of sweets from the grocery store?  Eh, nah. Not a big fan of sweets.

What kind of soda is your favorite?  Don’t like soda.

Do you drink juice? What kind?  I can take it or leave it. I wouldn’t buy it for myself.

What is your favorite chewing gum?  Doesn’t matter to me. The flavors last for only like a minute anyway.

Do you usually get candy from the check-out aisle?  Nah. Those are far more accessible so who knows who could’ve touched or tampered with them. Plus, I mentioned I don’t like sweets.

What is your favorite soup?  Miso or cream of mushroom.

Have you ever had soup when you were sick?  No. I don’t enjoy hot beverages/liquids very much so I doubt I would feel comfort from soup when I’m sick.

What are your favorite canned vegetables?  Not sure if it’s a cultural difference thing but canned vegetables kind of sound gross and I don’t think I’ve encountered those (I actually had to look it up lol). My parents always buy fruits and veggies as is.

What do you eat for breakfast?  Fried rice is a constant but my mom switches up the set of viands every time. Some of the meals she serves would be hotdogs, eggs (either scrambled, omelette, fried, or sunny-side up), corned beef, dried fish, hashbrowns, luncheon meat, tapa, and Vienna sausages. Poptarts or toaster strudels?  Poptarts. I’ve never had toaster strudel and I’m honestly not sure what that is.

What salad dressing do you prefer?  Spicy mayo.

Ketchup, mayonnaise, or mustard?  MAYONNAISE. I can live without the other two.

What kind of cookie do you like best?  I only ever eat chocolate chip.

What kind of snacks do you get at the grocery store?  Salted egg chips or Pringles. Not a big fan of snacks either. This survey is making me realize I’m way more into full meals than anything else.

Do you get the meat from the deli?  Er, we don’t have delis here. Too fancy a concept lmao. If we have them, they are most likely in those extremely upscale, boujee neighborhoods.

What is your favorite frozen dinner?  I mean my dad buys frozen meat, fish, etc, but the frozen dinner sets that I see in American culture, which I’m guessing is what’s being referred to in this question, are not common here.

Do you prefer frozen dinners to actual cooking?  I honestly can’t imagine how it’s filling, but then again I’ve never tried it. Personally, food made from scratch is still the best.

What is your favorite kind of pasta?  Fettuccine.

Do you eat meat? And if not, do you eat vegetarian meat?  Yes, I eat meat. I get vegan options if they’re accessible and affordable, but those choices are hard to come by here.

What is your favorite fruit?  Avocado is really the only one I’ll give a pass to. Everything else tastes horrible.

What about vegetable?  Broccoli, bell peppers, green beans.

Department Five: Health And Beauty

What kind of makeup do you normally use?  None. If I absolutely have to put on makeup, I will begrudgingly put on foundation, maybe some eyeliner, and lip gloss. And they will all most likely be borrowed from my sister.

Do you wear more makeup on special events?  Not necessarily.

What is your favorite makeup brand?  I wouldn’t be the right person to ask because I would just say none of them.

Do you use any acne products?  Mmm no, I just splash water on my face, really. I actually got into a conversation about skincare with my co-workers yesterday and besides the usual shocked experessions I get when people find out I don’t use products, they recommended I at least get moisturizer and sunscreen. Idk, let’s see but historically it’s been hard to convince me to invest in skincare haha.

What kind of perfume do you use?  I have one of Beyoncé’s perfumes, Heat Rush. I don’t actually know if that’s still in production but it’s been my staple for like a decade or so now.

Have you ever been on a diet?  No. I never really had to be on one.

What products do you use in your hair?  Shampoo and conditioner.

How often do you brush your hair?  Only when I have to leave the house or have an important virtual work meeting.

What do you take when you have an upset stomach?  Nothing. The toilet usually solves that for me lol.

Do you take any prescription medicine? Nope.

Department Six: Movies, Music, And Books

What is your favorite movie of all time?  It’s been Two for the Road for a solid nine years and it doesn’t look like anything’s on its way to dethroning it anytime soon.

What genre of movie do like best?  Drama. The more realistic it is, the better.

What was the last movie you watched?  It’s a Korean film called Be With You. I liked it and I cried waterfalls, but the ending was so rushed it was kind of disappointing.

What was the last movie you purchased?  I don’t buy movies. If I wanted to see a film I’ll check if Netflix has it, then if they don’t I just try to scour one of those illegal movie streaming sites that always happen to have thousands of pornographic ads hahaha.

What is your all time favorite band? Paramore. Do you still buy CDs?  Only from artists I’m an extremely huge fan of. Right now that would be BTS, so I’m catching up on all the albums they’ve released in the last eight years.

What was the last CD you bought?  I got the Butter album set, if that counts. If it doesn’t, the last full-length album I purchased was Dark & Wild.

What was the last song you listened to?  I think it was Permission To Dance.

What is your favorite book?  I haven’t found it yet.

Do you even like reading?  I used to love it a lot more, to the point that back in grade school I was known as always having a book in my hand. I just don’t know where that passion went.

Do you own a bike/scooter/skateboard/etc.?  We do have a bike at home, but that doesn’t mean I know how to ride it. We don’t have the other two.

Have you ever been camping?  Nah.

How often do you work out?  Nope but at work my boss just started another fitness challenge, so I’ll probably have to get back on working out soon just because I would want to accomplish the challenge.

Are you in good shape?  Sure, I think so. I’m not like fit fit because I neveeer exercise haha, but I also don’t make it a point to constantly eat unhealthy foods or have an unhealthy lifestyle to the point that it affects my body.

Do you go to a gym?  I do not. I thought of getting a membership at the start of the year but I’m glad I didn’t push through with it because all the gyms are still closed anyway.

Have you ever been fishing?  No. Idk if it’s my kind of pastime or not.

Have you ever been on a boat?  Yeah. My country has like 7000 islands so I was bound to get on a boat at some point in my life haha.

Can you play golf?  Never seemed interesting to me so no. Even on Wii Sports I barely picked golf.

Ever rode on a golf cart?  Yeah, in resorts where we had to ride them to be taken to our room.

What was your favorite toy as a child?  Cash registers because I liked the buttons. Also Play-Doh sets that had those contraptions that would squirt out the clay in various shapes.

I feel like I’ve been MIA on here lately and want to post many backlogged pics but also feel like I should do a lil brain dump

Been home for like...3 weeks now? honestly, we’re dealing with it. I’ve actually been really busy and once I decided I wasn’t going to be able to run away any time soon I kinda committed to just doing my best to make it work and it hasn’t been terrible

But on that note, I basically live at our neighbors’ house. They’re essentially my second family, I realize that breaks ~quarantine~ rules and I’ll admit to that, but my family was also already in contact with them before I got home and they are basically the only people I ever see and tbh if I had to pick between coming back to NJ to stay with my family or them, I’d pick them SO... yeah. It’s been really nice spending so much time with them though, dylan (22) and sage (20) have basically been my pseudo siblings my whole life and I pretty much grew up at their house but ever since college it’s rare that we are all home at once and after this time period we will never all be here together again because my fam is moving SO trying to really soak it up- hiking, cooking, playing catan, drinking beer, watching movies, etc. very nostalgic

To my last point- my family (well my mom and ed) is moving! my mom has had a plan to retire and move to costa rica (it’s literally the ONLY thing she talks about ugh) for awhile and they officially put our house up for sale last week so THAT has been a little hectic (I’m honestly so glad they are moving tbh I really don’t like coming to my childhood home that has now been flipped upside down to accommodate a new marriage and does not feel like my home)

not much to report on the running front, have been running less days and doing more biking/swimming here. I took a glance at the site for the marathon I was eyeing for the fall and they seemed pretty adamant that they were gonna hold it which honestly shocked me but I guess it’s in a place that hasn’t been hit too hard?? idk though I basically assumed all 2020 races were off the table. I’d also have to start training in like...2 weeks and I’m not sure if my body is really in the place for that

^to go off of that (TW ED) I need to like...get my fucking shit together. Over the course of the past year I’ve lost x pounds, unintentionally, literally due to anxiety, but once I started thinking about it more I realized my period has really petered out since the winter (like...january I guess?), plus it was never like...FULL force normal to begin with even though I was getting it to some extent for basically all of 2019. so anyway red! flag! I actually weighed myself yesterday which is something I haven’t done in like 5 years (only at doctor’s visits where I usually don’t even look at the weight until weeks later), but I KNEW it was going to have gone down and I thought maybe I could knock some sense into myself and tbh it kinda worked. The disconnect in my brain truly astounds me sometimes. But after I type this up I’m sitting down to have a chat with myself and journal and figure out a plan because this is not healthy and I need to get a grip. (again, like I said, not intentionally undereating, in fact I’ve eaten more on a daily basis over the past year than ever before, but my output is high and whenever I’m anxious my appetite is zero which makes for a very confusing disastrous time) 

In other news! headed down to NC to visit jared next week and I am excited 4 that. tbh I am looking forward to the 10 hour drive I find it really meditative and gives me time to think, catch up on podcasts, etc.

in the process of figuring out my living situation for the fall which is causing me STRESS. but it’s looking like we will be at least to some extent having in person classes. Also it looks like jared might not have to be on campus after thanksgiving in which case maybe he would come stay with me for a few weeks in OR which makes me very very happy

Also in jared news, feeling very very grateful for that boy, he is truly astounding

Food things- I was honestly having like....a slight identity crisis about eating meat. Normally I never buy meat, I only really eat it if there is a very particular circumstance and it’s so infrequent that it usually doesn’t cause me too much angst when it happens, but being home I told myself I’d eat dinner with my fam to make my life easier but I honestly started to get real freaked out about the amount of animal products going on (from an ethical side, not health). I’ve appreciated the eye opening-ness of it from my perspective in a lot of ways. Idk, too many thoughts to type. Probably sounds hypocritical anyway but the thought of being entirely vegan is incredibly stressful to me given my ED (plus, I eat mostly plant-based in general). BUT I have started to try to cook vegan meals for my family which makes me feel good and like I’m promoting good things. I made my mom a TLT for lunch the other day. On Tuesday I made homemade veggie burgers for the first time and they were super good. Making vegan stuffed shells tomorrow. And! And! After talking to my neighbor about veg cooking she also made very very similar veggie burgers this week, she actually made them the day before me so we got to taste test eachother’s. And then jared sent me a pic of vegan bolognese that his sister made which I know was inspired by him making that and I know he was inspired by my plant-based nudges and that stuff makes me feel good. Like I’m spreading a positive influence.

i really don't think its healthy for me to be vegan at the moment, im underweight and my doctor wants me to gain weight and she specifically said she wants me eating more cheese and buttery foods. so i cant go vegan yet sorry. sincerely, a baby radfem

okay, but why are you telling me? it sounds like you are using me as a tool to justify it to yourself, it didn’t ask. i actually get this a lot where the second someone knows i’m vegan, they go into a spiel about all the reasons they just can’t go, as if they want me to coddle them and go “it’s alright darling, i still love you”. i’m not here to provide you with validation.

also, i went from 48kgs (105lb) to 58-60kgs (127-132lb) after going vegetarian then vegan, so i’m the worst possible person to tell this. the “you’re gonna lose weight going vegan” is malarkey based on uber healthy “raw”/”fruit and vege-no processed food” veganism that few practice nowadays. also, doctors are not actually trained in nutrition, they only get a very brief course on it and many are misinformed in the same way the average person is (by the campaigns and propaganda from the animal agriculture industry). one doctor i had didn’t believe me when i said there are natural vegan sources of b12 and when i said nutritional yeast he just said “no no, there’s none”. 

a doctor specifically saying dairy products is actually highly bizarre because so many people are lactose intolerant AND dairy is super high cholesterol and saturated fats, which...even doctors who know little about nutrition know aren’t good in high amounts. i’ve had many doctors due to my health issues and not one ever suggested that i NEED dairy even before knowing i’m lactose intolerant. the more accurate and correct thing to say would be “fat rich foods”, which would include dairy, but also nuts (which have unsaturated fat, and so are one of the best options), seeds (chia and flax are good), avocado, olive oil (and other vegetable oils, but olive is the healthiest and has additional benefits), etc. and if you’re open to dairy with it’s saturated fat, then there’s even vegan fried/fast food/replacements (like ice cream, potato bakes, ready to eat meals, fake meats, etc) which is high in fat (but still zero cholesterol lol)

i was literally just gonna write the top sentence but then i got baffled by the statement your doctor apparently made. i literally had to change doctors because one kept insisting that my veganism was causing my issues until the blood tests came back fine and he didn’t even apologise. i made a formal complaint. there are literally studies on how inadequate education on nutrition is for medical students. here’s one of many articles from an unbiased, highly trusted source (american heart association)

9x05: Dog Dean Afternoon

Welcome to our last hellatus recap. This is one of our themed episodes and it’s not too late to guess what that is. You’ll win bragging rights forever! Anyway, our show is back tomorrow!

Then:

Obligatory Teddy Bear shot of how AbsUrD this show can be. Note to Show: Don’t highlight the absurdity of this show when you’re about to air a so-so episode. 

Now:

As a very dedicated taxidermist works on his Game of Thrones masterpieces, his very smart, very loyal German Shepherd, Colonel, alerts him to danger. They head through the halls of stuffed animals (but they’re all fake because who the fuck is stuffing these bears and shit? Also, a dog? Aren’t tigers endangered? WTF is all this?). Anyway, a man with a snake tongue attacks the taxidermist and Colonel sees it all. 

At the bunker, Sam’s got a case.

Once at the Taxidermy shop, they find it covered in red paint, and a little paw print symbol. Sam takes a picture.

Agents and Michaels and Deville enter the crime scene. And by crime, I mean all the dead animals. WTF? Like. WTF? Let’s assume all these animals died of natural causes, so we can pretend the victim was “a good egg.” Sam heads off to tour the place and Dean stops to interview Mr. Stevens. As Dean learns about “entrails” and such, Sam looks over the merch. 

Poor Dean Bean continues to have frightening reminders about why he’s a germaphobe. 

The boys are thinking witch, but decide to keep digging. 

At their motel, Sam discovers the “wiccan symbol” is really an animal right’s group symbol. (LOL, I totally don’t remember this episode and I’m totally NOT changing my caption from above.) 

Dean and Sam head to a vegan bakery where we learn that Dean knows the smell of Patchouli. Yeah, you might mask that with disdain for non-meat eaters, Dean, but we see you. They head to interrogate Olivia and Dylan, two founding members of S.N.A.R.T., the animal right’s group. They’re wearing sunglasses inside, so Dean thinks they’re douchebags. The brothers flash their badges. The couple sits down to talk about the victim. “You know how hunters are. They’re selfish dicks who define themselves by what they kill.” 

They explain that someone attacked them with pepper spray and that’s why they look like douchebags. 

Back at the motel, Sam further investigates the attack and the brothers surmise that they were attacked by venom.

At the local animal shelter, Brad gets a visit from Snake Man. Brad knows the guy and gets a $100 to let him walk into the kennel. The dude gathers ALL THE CATS and Brad wanders in to watch him EAT ONE. Yeah, we’re technically not on hate watch week anymore, BUT I STILL HATE THIS. 

Brad doesn’t last long. 

At the new crime scene, the brothers try to piece together the new information. Dean sees Colonel in a cage and ACCUSES HIM OF BEING A SUSPECT. GUH. Dean, just say you hate dogs and go home. Colonel doesn’t react to silver and Sam guesses they “can rule out killer.” Colonel starts barking. 

How would you like to come home with me and live in a nice big bunker and go for car rides all the time and eat liver sausages and help solve mysteries? 

Dean THE SMARTEST BEAN AROUND Winchester notices that Colonel is reacting to the local cop’s hat, so he tries it out. Bingo. Colonel was a witness to the crimes. 

Sam thinks there’s a way to communicate with the dog to find out what he’s seen. 

Kevin gets them a spell to talk with the dog. Dean agrees to drink the Mind Meld concoction because he doesn’t want Sam to take on more than healing from near death even if he doesn’t know if because he has an angel possessing him. Whew. 

The spell doesn’t seem to work (But it DID, so can I like get said spell? I’d really love to talk with my cat on the regular, lolz, I’m not crazy.) 

After eating lunch, Colonel sits up and asks for the channel to be changed. DUDE. It’s Foreigner. No one puts Foreigner in the corner. Dean’s on my side and has a nice argument with the dog while Sam watches confused. 

Dean gets to the point of the situation and asks about the cowboy hat. The killer wears a hat. WBK. As he throws away his food wrapping, Sam wants to know about the cats. Dean retrieves it like a good boy. (but seriously, German Shepherds ARE NOT RETRIEVERS. Good luck getting them to return anything!) 

Suddenly, there’s a noise outside and both Dean and Colonel head to the window to harass the mailman. Yep. 

Back at the motel, Sam tells Dean that side effects of mind melding with an animal can include developing animal urges. Suddenly I’m reminded of Dean’s fascination with the dog familiar from season eight and feel horribly uncomfortable. Dean angrily opens a chocolate bar, only for the dog to warn him off of it. No chocolate? This is an outrage!

Outside, a pigeon poops on Baby. “Hey, dick move, pigeon!” The bird returns anger with insult. “Screw you, asshat!” Apparently all animals have a universal language just sprinkled with insults! Dean shouts at the pigeon with all the subtlety of a very large human-shaped dog.

Sam manages to drag Dean into the car, but not before I make a diorama of this scene and place it on my Supernatural altar of Very Good Things. 

Dean and Sam argue over whether they should leave Colonel in the car. “You think we like that?” Dean asks, ROYALLY insulted. Hell, no. Colonel’s going in with them. In a moment where I curse my horrific prescience, Dean gives a lusty once-over to a nearby tied-up poodle. I…just…

Inside the shelter, Dean interrogates all the shelter animals. There’s only one dog who can give any good intel, and the dog only delivers in exchange for a belly rub. From Sam.

The dog gives them a tip: they’re looking for a cowboy hatted villain who works at a nearby restaurant. Dean lets all the animals free before they leave. “I didn’t peg you for a softy,” Colonel remarks. But WE all knew. Dean Bean <3

The Winchesters break into the restaurant that evening and discover a giant stash of prescription medications and…a cage of mice. The mice give Dean a tip: animal bits and pieces are stored neatly in the refrigerator. Sam finds a spell: with the right magic, ingesting a certain bit of animal helps the magician to temporarily gain that animal’s power. The guy’s mixing various animal parts to experiment on the effects and fun new powers he might develop. 

Dean and Sam encounter a chef and waiter preparing a private dinner (featuring shark fin) and shoo them out under the guise of health inspector. 

Chef Leo nibbled on a chameleon, which allows him to get the drop on Sam. 

He swipes at Sam’s throat. Gadreel flashes to life and heals Sam’s terrible throat slash. Leo witnesses this miraculous healing and decides that Sam’s the ultimate snak - I mean, meal. 

Leo sniffs out a dog, only to turn around and see…Dean. When the chef learns that Dog Dean and Angel Sam are brothers he is many levels of confused, but that doesn’t put him off his plans to chow down on Sam Fucking Winchester and his creamy angel filling. Dean, being a dog, immediately sniffs out some new information about Leo: he has cancer. Traditional treatments did nothing to help Leo, but his animal power worked. While his quest began sympathetically, murder is a side effect that Leo’s totally cool with as long as he can keep pushing the boundaries of man and beast. “Guess you eat enough predators, you start to become one.” 

The chef pulls out a wolf heart so he can tear Dean - a mere dog - into little kibble sized bits. Dean breaks free just in time and leads Leo on a merry chase outside. He looks oddly triumphant for being cornered by Leo in an alley, and whistles sharply. A pack of the stray dogs come running and tear Leo to bits. 

Dean races back to check on Sam and calls for Sam…or Zeke...to wake up. “Don’t make me lick your damn face,” he pleads dramatically. Sam snaps awake. Hooray! Happy ending!

We jump to the Colonel meeting the vegans from earlier. They wuv that cute widdle puppy wuppy! Dean regrets that they can’t take Colonel along with them but it’s no life for a dog! It’s vegan dog treats from here on out. 

The spell wears off just as Colonel tells Dean, “Dogs aren't really man's best friend. I know it sounds like a conspiracy theory, but the real reason we were put here was to…” He starts barking, and the spell’s done at last. I’m sure we’ll finally learn the truth about dogs in the final scene of season 15, right? RIGHT? 

At the car, Dean checks in with Sam. Sammy’s fine, but he’s a little weirded out by what Leo said about him - why did he want to know WHAT Sam was? Dean dissembles awkwardly and they take off for further adventures, played out to the credits by sad guilt violins.

Camp TV Biographies

This is a very, very, very long post!! There’s literally every Season One character in here and Tumblr tried to get me to cut it in half multiple times but like. lol no. Anyways, everything is under the cut!

Beth What’s your best quality? My detective skills! I have solved many small cases back on my farm at home, the largest of which being who was responsible for the grain going missing. Turns out it was just a rat.

Faves? (music, colour, movie, food)

My parents only have music from the 60’s, so that’s the only music I know.

I love pink! Especially more reddish ones.

What’s that one with a talking pig called? It reminds me so much of my own pig, Bertha!

My mum makes the best food ever, especially when it comes to pies.

Describe your craziest dream. I was a real detective, just like Sherlock Holmes! It was so cool, and I got to solve a murder, and I had a sidekick and everything!

Best memory from childhood? The day I got Bertha. She’s like a little sister to me.

Most embarrassing moment at school? One time I’d forgotten which shirt I had gotten dirty and I was in a rush, so I went to school in a muddy shirt with pig hoof-prints on it.

Describe the first job you ever had. I work on the farm as much as I can, in between school and detective work!

Ten years from now, what are you doing? I’ll have moved to England, and become the best detective in all of Scotland Yard!

Well so far the lack of hoses has been a real problem! And tissue rolls and hand sanitizers are sold out everywhere smh Australians -_- so in that sense the hygiene is an issue right now but I’m sure both of those can be solved, I went to Melbourne for uni which I HIGHLY recommend as an international student!!! The streets are very clean and it’s way calmer than like Sydney and stuff like that but also Melbourne is among the top rated cities by international students like every single year. And I’m beginning to see why lol like tap water for one saves me a lot of money and so many places have student discounts and it’s such a diverse area. The uni I go to (Deakin) is full of other brown people and it’s been pretty safe so far like I haven’t gotten any hostility from white ppl yet (unlike my brother he goes to Monash and unfortunately had someone run from him when they found out his name was Mohammed LMAO) idiots everywhere tho! there’s loads of inclusive clubs and lots of cultures in Melbourne and the education is really GOOD (especially at uni of Melbourne, monash and Deakin) and students/staff have been very accommodating w me about courses and my late arrival etc. though if you do apply to Australia, start your visa early bc they were inflexible when it came to giving me an extension on the enrollment date. Maybe I got lucky but everyone I’ve talked to in Melbourne has been very friendly and helpful so far! as soon as I got out of the airport that is lmao the airport staff were little bitches 😑 I guess me being a Hijabi helps in a way cause it’s not like people won’t know I’m Muslim before approaching me so like I can avoid indirect racism. The good thing about Melbourne is there are soooo many stores like cole’s woolworth’s aldi’s Kmart etc like if you want cheap food you go to Aldi if you want cheaper clothing you can go to Kmart if you want variety you go to cole’s or woolworth’s etc and the food options are crazy!!! in comparison to where I moved from at least. you can get like a whole KG of Greek yoghurt for like 2.50 AUD that’s like half the price it cost in qatar lmao. so if you’re into natural/healthy stuff you’re gonna enjoy living here. there’s vegan places halal places asian places etc and the coffee in Melbourne is apparently really good! can’t speak on that tho I only got coffee once from campus and was charged $4.50 for a tiny plastic cup of iced coffee :| accommodation in australia is expensive but you can share, it’s not as bad as rent in london nor is the tuition as bad as it is in the uk/us/other popular uni destinations. The bad thing tho is the clothing oh my god RIDICULOUSLY overpriced and so are shoes. I probably just haven’t been to the right places I’ve only been here for 2 days but clothing in general is definitely expensive here, so are fruits. there’s sales everywhere now tho cuz of the corona stuff. BE PREPARED FOR CRAZY WEATHER!! literally pack for all seasons cause it feels like melbourne goes thru all four in two hours. sunny then rainy then windy then sunny like sfgsfgd just keep in mind u should pack heavy esp if you’re used to hot weather. there’s also little things like: right now because it’s summer the sun goes down at like 8pm!!!! I was shocked when I got off the airport at like 7pm and the sun was still shining like wow honestly changes your whole mood... FOOD

What is your favorite salad dressing? I’m not really familiar with most of them as I only consume one type of salad and the recipe for that usually calls for mayo and some kind of spicy sauce. I guess that’s my favorite dressing by default.

Favorite sit-down restaurant? Yabu for days. I personally don’t think that will change for me. Mama Lou’s is also nice but its crowd can be so boujee it kills the dine-in experience for me.

Favorite pizza topping? I’m easy to please; I just like my pizzas cheesy.

This has definitely caused my Filipino card to be revoked in the past lol, but ugh the texture is just so slimy and I hate how, even though we have so many types of kakanin, they all just taste and feel like sticky, chewed-up rice doused in sugar and coconut flakes. Korean rice cakes taste so much better.

How many TVs are in your house? We have four. Two downstairs, two upstairs.

Do they all work? I think the one in my brother’s room has stopped working but we just never get around to throwing it out because of the possibility of it getting fixed someday.

Do you have Comcast digital cable? I don’t know what that is. Probably a US thing? In that case we don’t. We used to have cable TV but my dad ceased our subscription a few months ago because no one in the family has been watching the TV for cable anymore and he got sick of paying for something that we don’t even avail of; we all stream our shows and movies on Netflix now.

Do you have any tips for working out/diet when working out?

Of course

1. Stay consistent. Aim to stick to the number of days you set yourself every week, say you workout 3 days a week, if you're not feeling it make sure you do even a little bit (20 mins) it'll make you feel so much better and once you create the new habit it will become easier to stay consistent but it is sooo easy to fall out of the routine so try stick it even if you cut your workout on some days! But also, don't beat yourself up for skipping days or weeks. Your muscles won't vanish overnight. 🖤

2. Find a plan/split that works specifically for you. If you go to the gym, ask a PT to help you design a plan tailored to your needs and goals. Or you can design one yourself by researching what workouts will get you where you want. This will be time-consuming but will be worth it in the end.

3. Use video reference! There are loads online, I recommend finding fitness people on Instagram that post workouts you can follow. Alternatively, the playbook app has worked very well for me but it is a subscription service. Highly recommend if you can afford it though, a lot of people offer deals for first time users (£1 for a month or something)

4. Find an active hobby or sport if you're interested. Even if it's just going on more walks, this helps me. I'm not really one for cardio in the gym cause I get So Bored. I walk to my gym (30 mins) so that helps me get in more walking. But definitely, just try to get more movement in your day in general!

5. Lift heavy. Focus on upping your weight when you feel ready to! This will be the key to progressing 💪

6. Eat lots of veggies! I don't wanna advise too much on food cause everyone's body is different. But, I recommend a high protein intake (I'm vegan, so I prioritise tofu, legumes, beans, veggies) and lower fat and gluten. A little gluten is fine but I think it's best to avoid it when you can (I literally eat bread every day I'm bad at this but it helps lol) and drink more water than you think you need!

Secret Identity  | Jared Leto + Reader | Part 5

Prompt: Y/N finally founds out who her mystery partner is.  Note: Like with the last one, can’t add the other parts cause these are queued. Look on my page, they’re all there. Also, not sure if this’ll be the last or if there will be more. Not even sure how this is gonna end yet. Also, like the last one, the GIF doesn’t have much to do with the story.  Warning: PG-13 for potential language as it’s always been. He’s been pretty clean so far, but we’ll see how long that lasts now, lol.

Jared. Freaking. Leto was standing in front of you, saying your name. You would have thought this was some really bizarre coincidence but there was no one else around, and he’d said your name. 

You stood there, staring at him in shock. You looked around again. “Am I being punked?” you asked. You always said if you ended up in a bizarre situation, that would be your first question. Okay, technically your first question was his name, but that didn’t count. 

He shook his head. “It’s just been me. Wanted to connect more with the Echelon, and I thought anonymity on a fansite would be a good way. Then we started talking, and I really started to like you. No weird motives, no pranks, just me,” he said with a small smile.

 Your hands came to rest over your mouth in complete surprise. You could feel your eyes welling with tears. Not only were you finally meeting the guy who had been so sweet with you the past few weeks, who had been there when you were stressed over work and freaking out, or just generally upset about something, but he was someone you’d already looked up to. “I can’t believe this is happening,” you said, fanning your eyes. “So that photo you sent... you weren’t saying you were the kid, you were saying you were... you. And obviously you’d go to Camp Mars, you run it. And Joseph is your middle name, but Jay for Jared... It explains so much,” you said, a huge, stupid grin on your face before you covered it again in embarrassment. 

He watched you process everything, looking a bit nervous but otherwise amused. “I tried not to lie to you, just... stretched the truth. I wanted to know you’d like me for me, and not my name,” he said.

“I really like you for you, every part of you,” you answered, dabbing under your eyes. “Can I hug you?” you asked meekly, still in shock.

“Of course you can, beautiful. Come here,” he opened his arms out and you went over, wrapping your arms around him tightly. You buried your head into his chest, taking in his cologne that smelled more like Hugo than Gucci, 

“God, I can’t believe it’s you,” you murmured against his chest, taking a few breathes to calm down.

“Jay or Jared?” he asked, a smile in his voice.

“Both. The whom I’ve loved and respected for so many years, and my prince charming are the same person... And it doesn’t make me feel any different. Just more validated that I feel very strongly for both of you. And ‘both of you’ is one person...” you murmured, shaking your head to clear it, gazing up at him. “So many times I wanted to say you reminded me of Jared, but I never wanted “Jay” to think I was too busy comparing well.. you to you,” you laughed softly, staying close.

“I’m me. Completely. I never lied to you, never changed my thoughts... Swore a little less, cause I wasn’t trying to completely fuck it up, but over our hours of conversation, you swore enough for the both of us at times,” he teased, smiling brightly down at you. God, he was beautiful.

“Enough about me! What about you? Same breathtaking eyes, same gorgeous smile,” he paused to squeeze your sides to tickle you, and you laughed softly, “same amazing laugh. And apart from the excused shock, it really does seem like who I really am is the icing on top of the vegan cupcake,” he said with a cheeky smile.

“It’s true. It’s magical that it’s someone I’ve had a crush on for longer than a month, but I had a crush on you too. And the two being the same person makes sense,” you told him. 

He beamed down at you. “So I’ve got about an hour and a half ‘til I’ve gotta head back for soundcheck, and then the meet and greet. You’re welcome to join me backstages. Can follow me back, and I’ll get you in the gate and get you a pass,” he offered.  

 “If it means more time with you, I’d like that,” you answered. “For now, what should we do?” you asked.

One hand reached up to grab yours, interlacing your fingers, something you’d talked about for weeks and was finally able to do. “Want to walk around a bit? Get to talk some before a crazy night?” 

You nodded, squeezing his hand and he guided you toward one of the paths. “Who all knows?” you asked as you walked hand-in-hand. 

“Just Shannon. He was with me one of the first times we were texting, and I kept laughing and smiling, and he knew something was up so I told him. He was worried you’d turn all super-fan once you found out, and I waited until I trusted you. I’m glad you didn’t prove him right,” he teased lightly.

You laughed softly. “Get to introduce us and say “Ha! I told you so?”” 

He joined you in laughter. “Yep. “Look, she’s here, she’s real, and she adores both parts of me.”” He smiled over at me. “If you want, after the show, you can come back with me to the house. We can sit by the pool, stick our feet in, and hold hands,” he suggested.

Just like you’d suggested your first phone call. “I’d love it.” 

Jared’s POV

There was a relief off Jared’s shoulders now. She’d been shocked, but that was valid. She was still a fan and all, and he was still Jared Leto, but she wasn’t freaking out. She wasn’t asking for pictures or an autograph, proclaiming her love, or anything. Once she got over the shock, it was like nothing had changed, except in person now.

Well, he could finally talk about himself more. He could talk about his mom, he could talk about his brother. He could talk about touring the world and the things he’d learned. He could tell her his favorite places in LA, and NY. She’d spent the last month introducing him to her life, and it was his turn. She never told him what she knew and didn’t know, she never tried to finish his sentences or comment on what she’d read. She reacted just like anyone would, learning all this new information. It felt very normal. Whether it was because she hadn’t looked much into his past, or because it was different hearing it from the man himself, she treated him like a person, which was rare in people who weren’t in Hollywood too. 

He didn’t kiss her though. He had plans for that. They’d been talking about it for a month, it was his right to make it perfect. 

Once his alarm went off telling him he needed to head back, they went back to the cars. He offered to follow her back to her friends and pick her up so she wouldn’t have to drive, and he’d drive her home later. They did just that, and they talked some more on the way to the show. As promised, he got her a pass one they went inside, and he steered her towards the green room to introduce her to Shannon and Tomo.

“Shannon, Tomo, this is Y/N,” he said as you went into the green room. 

Shannon’s head movements were the only way to tell where his glance was, but they were subtle. Jared had a feeling the girl next to him had no clue where the older Leto was looking. “The girl?” he asked.

Jared nodded with a smile. “The very one.” 

“Wait, what girl?” Tomo asked, lost.

“Long story short, I catfished a bunch of Echelon by making a 30STM fan account and didn’t tell them I was running it. And I bonded with one, and took one on a date,” he said, nudging her.

“Awwwwwwww,” Tomo teased, coming over and gave her a hug. “Welcome to the family. Well, you’re an Echelon, you’re already a part of the family,” he joked.

She laughed softly. “Yes, we’re all family. Does that make this very Alabama?” she asked, glancing at Jared. 

He held up his hands. “I’m from Louisana, not Alabama,” he joked.

“I’m from Alabama though,” Tomo continued to tease. 

“Yeah, okay. Is that in Bosnia?” Shannon asked, finally coming a bit closer. “Nice to finally meet you. He speaks highly of you. Don’t let him down?” he asked.

“No pressure,” she muttered in a playful tone. “No, really though. He’s been there for me the past month in a way no one has. The only thing this revelation has told me is that he’s been there for me a lot longer than a month. All of you had,” she said, smiling over at Jared. He leaned over and kissed her cheek. 

“We’ve got soundcheck, I’ll bring your boyfriend back in a bit,” Tomo said.

“Feel free to hang out here, plenty of food and stuff. Don’t get lost,” Jared said. 

Your POV

You’d met all of Thirty Seconds to Mars, and hung out in their dressing room. It was surreal. And still, there was that overwhelming feeling that told you that you cared for them as more than just celebrities. They were genuinely good people.

You got down into the pit with the Echelon during the show, but Jared pulled you back up during the last song when he was pulling everyone else up as well. He gave you some attention but the others as well. The show ended, and you went backstage again. They all had to take a quick shower before they could split off. They did go out for a bit to meet more people who weren’t at the meet & greet but people who were still at the merch booth. You just hung back quietly, not wanting to draw attention to yourself. 

Once they were done, you followed Jared back to his car and got in with him.

“The show was fantastic,” you said, holding his hand with one hand, the other scrolling through photos and videos you had taken. 

“I’m glad you enjoyed yourself,” he said, leaning over to kiss your shoulder. He hadn’t kissed you yet.  Cheek, head, shoulders, everyone but the lips. Did he not want to anymore? You decided to be patient for once. Whether you’d know each other for a month or not, it was still your first time meeting. Everything else was amazing anyway. 

He pulled up to a house - beautiful and unique. Just like him. He parked, and you both hopped out, him leading you inside. He tossed his keys aside and led you to the backyard. You smiled softly as you saw the pool so many conversations had happened next to. He kicked off his shoes and you followed suit. Jared went over, rolling up his pant legs and sat down, sticking his feet in. You sat next to him to roll up your much tighter pantlegs, before putting your feet in the cool water. The both of you laid back, your leg resting gently against his, and your fingers interlaced. Just like you’d talked about. 

“I didn’t think this would ever become a reality,” you murmured, resting your head against his shoulder, fingers drawing on his hand. 

“Me either. Definitely not what I was thinking would happen when I made the account on a whim either.” he chuckled softly, lips coming to your hair.

“I’ll keep your secret if you want to keep the account. I get the meaning behind it, and I wouldn’t want to spoil that for you,” you commented. 

He smiled softly down at you. “Thank you. And don’t worry, you’re the only girl I’ve been flirting with,” he winked. “The rest, mostly just reading captions and comments, and every now and then talking about what the band means to them and what they’d like to see. Maybe one day I’ll be like hey guys, if you talked to Letoislove on Instagram, that was me, picking your brains.” he laughed, and you joined him.

“That would be a big shock for them.” you grinned. 

“I’d have to do it at a show, or Camp Mars, or something. Speaking of which, you can stop saving. I’ll get you passes to Camp Mars,” he added.

You rose a brow. “You sure? I meant what I said earlier, I like you for you. Not for what you can get me,” you told him.

“I know. And I’ve been wanting to do it since I sent you the photo, but there was no way I could justify saying this random guy you met online was willing to spend over a thousand dollars on you. We always have extra for friends and family, so if you want it, you got it,” he assured me. 

I beamed up at him. “Thank you.”

“You’re welcome. And I like your reasoning for wanting to go. Meeting and bonding with other Echelon. And then having our company is a bonus,” he answered.

“Always a bonus,” you teased, gazing into his eyes. 

Then, at the moment you least expected it, he leaned over and pressed his lips to yours. You happily reciprocated, returning the kiss. He tasted of acai and pomegranate from the after show snack and drink. His lips were soft, and felt like magic. Butterflies weren’t just in your stomach, but your whole body. He reached up to stroke along your cheek and into your hair. 

After a minute, he pulled back, leaning over you more now and both breathing heavily. “Mm. Definitely worth the wait.”
