Yeah so. I still think s13 is The capping point for me and all that comes after is hypothetical/simulations or whatever.
First of all. No, you fucking don't get to separate Grif and Simmons.
Having the groups act hostile towards each other (or just the Reds against Caboose again) right after Chorus was a a big enough of a crime already. But those two are a package deal.
So what the fuck even happened in the SoC fight? Why would they let Tucker just walk out in the aftermath? I guess Carolina booked it to go after him bc why else would she leave Wash alone again, after he was supposedly injured?? Also Doc dying, wow rude. Donut and his VA are free to enjoy their break but where' was heeeeeeee where'd he goooooo he was barely mentioned at aaaalllllllll >:(
Sarge's death speech was surprisingly long and clear even though his lungs were probably pierced, cauterized or no.
On one hand I have a hard time seeing Sarge dying peacefully in a bed instead of in battle but he didn't have to stay at that doorway after they got back. He didn't have to die there. I'm glad he went back for Caboose though cuz that is one his boys (even if he's a dirty Blue).
Grif and Simmons talking about him at his grave was pretty good scene and so was the campfire reminiscing one but again, Sarge didn't have to die and I refuse a world where Grif and Simmons would go their separate ways like that. No wonder Gus and Geoff were shocked to find out this was the last season.
I got so excited the second I recognized Tex's knuckle crack ;o;
So close to a proper Tex and Caro combo, though I do get that they wouldn't work well together because of their history and different fighting styles :( Still, even if AI boosted, Tucker shouldn't be anywhere near good enough to go against both.
Also they got Kathleen back for Tex, John Erler for North and Samantha Ireland for CT??? Couldn't have seen that coming. Also Miles was aight doing Elijah Wood's voice but I guess a lot of it was helped by the voice mods.
Beta may have been "a failure" and Sigma is a bitch but his speech at her felt really off. She was still a major part of Alpha and the memories of Allison were the reason the rest of the pieces came to be in the first place. The Meta collective tried to catch her both in cases of the og Tex and Epsi-Tex, so Sigma full on rejecting her and the rest not reacting at all was really weird.
"This time, I'm not based on his memories, I'm based on theirs. And I always kicked their asses." A nice change of pace re: Beta as Alpha's/Allison's "failure". ....
Chex has embedded itself deep into my brain, so of course I Felt Things seeing them interact one last time fr fr. Tex finally got to go out with some agency of her own, yet we've come a full circle, they're back together again as Leonard and Allison. At least one good ending. Easily the best part of the movie.
Security working from home extremely funny, but the bit went on for too long and video calls w/ technical issues bc haha relatable feels like an overdone trope already
Felix being included as a part of the Meta was kinda weird? He never really interacted with the armor or the AI to warrant it I think.
Niner and Sheila :)
No Junior :(
So uh. Tucker got no closure re:Epsilon's death and just kinda. Walks it off after the possession is over? After Wash and Memory!Doc had that talk about the things an AI in your head does to you??
Speaking of Wash:
I know he's always been linked to memory and I actually like how they handled his brain damage in the Shisno Paradox, but I just have a very different image of how he feels about the PFL folks in the aftermath. To me Carolina always seemed more like the type to feel regret over how things went with PFL; she was kind of in a leadership position, had her tragic relationship with York and she felt taking down the Director was her duty.
Wash did arguably have a lot more positive ties to others than she did during the Project, but he was ready to burn it all down while in Recovery duty. I always thought he would have a lot harder time moving past his own trauma of getting left behind to get back to the good memories. Regrets about Doc I can kinda understand since they had time to work together while at Chorus after Wash's villain arc was over, but again, the man carries a grudge like it's a badge of honor. He didn't exactly get closure with his former teammates, aside from collecting the AI from their dead bodies after he'd been left alone following the fall of the MoI and after South shot him in the back. It's interesting how differently Shisno trilogy and S19 handled how Wash and Carolina feel about the whole thing, but I'm glad they stick together regardless. I love their relationship so much.
Wash staying silent when the recovery unit is broken..... Ngl I'm kinda obsessed with how he and Epsilon never got closure
I still don't have interest in checking out Zero....
Woulda been a lot better if they just let Trocadero do the music :( As predicted, the movie OST lacked the personality the series OST was built on and somehow including one track from them felt a bit of an insult. A reminder of what could've been. Also I didn't like the "oohh this part is super loud because movie" bits
Tragically obvious how rushed the production was and how they had a lot less people and resources to work with
If Shisno was a mixed bag of some high highs and a lot of lows, this was relatively steadily ok. Some dips, at least one peak. Not nearly as good as what precedes it but. ok. I can take it as one possibility
Sigh. The funky space marines are finally free. (I'm not, these fuckers seem to continue to fail evacuating my brain)

Follows the little snippet where Geoff was taken away in an ambulance and the clones escaped.
I was doing a bit of research into the name Geoffrey (you'll see why) and apparently it means, depending on where the origins are traced, "pledge of peace" or "divine peace."
How. Fitting. Is. That.
***
The hospital wouldn't allow William to see Geoff because of his age, so Kathy sat in the waiting room with him while Geoff's parents went back. She'd texted VoicePlay to tell them of the situation, but hadn't heard anything back from them yet.
Geoff had fallen into a coma, but the doctors couldn't find a reason for it. A spinal tap and CT scan had shown nothing. There was nothing in his system. His vitals were strong. The doctors had tried injecting him with stimulants to no avail. They were giving him saline through an IV to prevent dehydration, but other than that things were at a standstill.
The worst was the not knowing. If the doctors could have pinpointed what was wrong and begun a treatment Kathy could have at least comforted herself that something was being done. But there was nothing to do now except sit and watch him breathe and hope he didn't stop.
Eventually Geoff's parents came out. They took William home with them, and Kathy went back to sit with Geoff. Time passed, and then Kathy heard Layne's voice at the door. "Knock-knock."
Kathy sighed. "Hi, Layne."
He came over and briefly hugged her. "Any news?"
"No, nothing."
"What happened?"
"I don't know. I could hear him through the studio door talking to himself." Now that she thought about it, the sequence of events leading to this was even weirder than what was happening. "He was holding the door shut, and I heard a crash. When I got in he'd thrown his piano bench out the window and he was just lying on the floor."
Layne frowned. "What was he saying?"
"I couldn't make it out."
He fell silent, and then after a few minutes spoke in a loud voice. "Hey, Geoff. Don't worry. I'll take care of Kathy and William while you're in here. I'll make sure to keep them in Miracle Whip and pre-shredded cheese."
Kathy felt her eyes bulge. "What are you doing?"
"Trying to wake him up."
"Layne. Stop. Just...stop." Kathy sighed. Yes, she had to admit, if Geoff had been conscious it would have gotten a fierce reaction out of him. But right then Kathy couldn't deal with Layne's shenanigans.
Eli arrived a few minutes later, and Layne decided to call Cesar. "Hey, Cesar. It's Layne. Have you read your texts? Eli and I are up here at Memorial with Kathy. Geoff's in a coma." Layne paused and his eyes widened. "What do you mean, am I sure? I'm looking right at him!"
Eli and Kathy turned to Layne, and Layne's eyes got even wider. "You're with Geoff? Where?" A pause. "I'm going to put you on speaker. Repeat what you just said."
Cesar's voice came over the phone. "Uh...Geoff and I are at the Purple Panther."
"What?!" Kathy nearly shrieked, causing Eli to make a shushing noise at her. "You're at that sleazy strip club? What are you doing there?"
"Don't answer that," Eli said quickly.
"But Geoff's right here!" Layne said.
Cesar's voice was a mix of confused and annoyed. "No, I'm with..." His voice trailed off. "Wait..."
Geoff's voice came over the phone. "I told you I was Daryl."
The three of them gaped at the phone, and then Layne groaned as realization hit. "Cesar, you and Daryl get over here. Now."
"Uh, sure," Cesar said. "Be right there."
***
Eli's arms were crossed and his voice stern as he looked at Cesar. "So let me get this straight. Daryl here, or Geoff, our Geoff as you thought he was at the time, agreed to go with you to a strip club and it never entered your mind to think 'Huh. This isn't like Geoff. Something must be wrong.'"
Cesar shrugged helplessly. "I thought he'd had a fight with Kathy and needed to blow off steam."
"And I was curious," Daryl pouted. "Host never takes us to places like that."
"Not helping," Cesar whispered.
Layne's lips were pressed tightly together as he struggled to keep his laughter back. Kathy wasn't sure whether to be amused or angry, but she was going to have a long talk with Geoff when he woke up.
Eli sighed. "Daryl, what happened to...separate you guys?"
"I'm not sure."
Kathy gave him a look. "Daryl."
"I wasn't paying attention! I remember an electric shock, and that's it. Jeoph's the one who takes care of the work, anyway. He'd know. Or maybe Jeff."
"What does Jeff do?" Layne asked.
"Yells at me, mostly. He thinks he's the boss of me, just because I'm the youngest. Between him and Frieda I can't do anything without getting a lecture."
Layne held out a hand in a "stop" gesture. "Wait. Who's Frieda?"
Daryl looked at Layne. "Our sister. Who else?"
Eli put his hands over his face. "Oh God, no."
Kathy stared. "Is she out, too?"
Daryl frowned. "Come to think of it, I didn't see her at the house. She might still be in Host."
Layne shook his head. "You guys are a psychologists's dream."
"Or nightmare," Eli countered. He looked at Daryl. "Look, we've got to get the all of you back together. Do you know where the others might be?"
Daryl looked away. "No."
Kathy frowned. "Why do I think you're lying?"
"Because you're a suspicious little--"
They all jumped when a deep but feminine voice cut in. "For the sake of our Host's future marital bliss, don't complete that sentence." They all turned to see a woman in a blue dress shirt, jeans, and sneakers climbing out of the bed. Her brown hair was in a ponytail, which swayed a bit as she frowned at Daryl. "Eli's right. We need to get everyone back home."
Eli sat on the floor and buried his head in his arms. Cesar smiled at her. "You must be Frieda."
She smiled back. "I am."
Daryl frowned. "How did you get out?"
"You guys left the door open."
Kathy could only stare. "Are there any more of you in there?"
Frieda shook her head. "No."
"Thank God," Eli murmured.
Daryl's eyes narrowed as he spoke to Frieda. "Listen. I'm not going back in there." He looked at the others. "Do you have any idea what it's like living in his head--" he gestured to Geoff "--with her and the rest of them? I'm not going back in. Not happening."
Frieda closed her eyes and collected herself before she answered. "Daryl, stop being an idiot and use what few brain cells you have. What's going to happen to Host if we don't go back in?"
He crossed his arms. "You tell me, Little Miss Can't-Be-Wrong."
"He's not going to wake up. He's going to keep laying there, and they're going to start tube feeding him. He's going to waste away, and eventually he'll be declared brain-dead and they'll take him off life support. And then he'll die." Kathy took Geoff's hand as Frieda went on. "And if he dies, we die."
Silence hung in the room. Daryl finally turned his head away from Frieda. It was Cesar who spoke. "Hey. Maybe we can let Daryl stay out until we round up the others?"
Eli got up. "That could take days."
Kathy looked at Frieda. "Do you know where they'd be?"
"I can take a good guess."
"So guess," Layne said.
"Jeoph's the one who does the work on Host's projects, so he's either at home working, or at PattyCake. Goff would be somewhere he can work out." She frowned. "Jeff's...harder to say. He's pretty stressed most of the time. He'd be somewhere he can relax."
"Well that narrows it down," Eli sighed. "Okay. Cesar, you stay here with Daryl. Kathy, you go after Jeoph. Layne, start checking the local gyms for Goff. Frieda, come with me and we'll look for Jeff."
Layne cleared his throat. "I'm banned from Planet Fitness."
Eli stared. "How did you--no, never mind, I don't care. Fine. You and Frieda go look for Jeff and I'll look for Goff."
There were murmurs of agreement. Kathy kissed Geoff and reassured him she'd be back soon before she left. The others followed her, and it became quiet except for the machines monitoring Geoff.
Cesar looked at Daryl. "So...what else are you curious about that Geoff can't admit?"
Daryl brightened. "Oh, lots of things."

2014 VoicePlay fall travels — school tour, and festivals, and cruising, oh my!
VoicePlay didn't have an extended tour scheduled for the autumn months, but that doesn't mean they were just sitting at home. (They did get some time at home, though, which is a good thing.) Their adventures were simply shorter and more varied.
.
RPI homecoming show
As part of Resselaer Polytechnic Institute's homecoming weekend in upstate New York, VoicePlay and pal Emoni Wilkins headlined "An Evening of A Cappella" with the university's student a cappella groups, Duly Noted, Partial Credit, The Rusty Pipes, and the Rensselyrics. Before the show, they were the guests of honor at a meet-and-greet for alumni of the student groups and the RPI glee club.
.
Pennsylvania school tour
When VoicePlay performed at APAP in January 2014, they caught a number of eyes, including those of executive director Rob Steele from the Williamsport Community Arts Center in Pennsylvania. He sought out their booth at the convention, and was impressed by their commitment to educational outreach.
So when mid-October rolled around, VoicePlay and Emoni set off for a whirlwind week of workshops at all eight school districts in Lycoming County. They visited two schools per day, culminating with a Friday student matinee and an evening concert at the Williamsport CAC. Since filming the fourth season of The Sing-Off the previous summer and the ensuing tour in the spring had greatly reduced the guys' ability to schedule time with students for nearly a year, they were excited to have some concentrated kid time.
Monday
morning in Muncy, afternoon in Loyalsock
Tuesday
morning in the Jersey Shore School District, afternoon in Montoursville
Wednesday
morning in South Williamsport, afternoon in Hughesville
A local reporter attended the Wednesday morning workshop, and did a very nice write-up for the Williamsport Sun-Gazette.
Thursday
morning in Chester Springs, afternoon in Williamsport
During the final workshop, Layne laid down some beats for a student to dance to.
Friday
all dressed up and ready for showtime
.
Bridgeport show
After bidding farewell to Emoni, the guys made a quick jaunt to Bridgeport, CT for one more show — complete with a theater pooch and tiled dressing room — before heading home.
.
Home time
After eight days of shows and workshops, flights and van rides, the guys got to enjoy two weeks at home with minimal interruptions. They did pop down to Miami for a charity event (with some very cool decor) that happened to coincide with Earl's birthday. In a belated anniversary celebration, Earl and Nick got tattoos of each other's voice waveforms. And, of course, they had to celebrate Halloween.
.
Cruising
At the beginning of November, VoicePlay hit the road — and the skies and the seas — once more. They fit in a quick Caribbean cruise gig before heading back north.
.
Kettering National A Cappella Festival
When they got off the ship, the boys jetted up to Dayton, Ohio for one of the biggest student a cappella festivals in the country. After headlining the Friday night concert, they spent Saturday running master class sessions with various high school groups. The Saturday night concert was headlined by Street Corner Symphony, who the guys would soon get to know better on the upcoming 2015 Sing-Off tour.
A member of Marlington High School's Dukes of Harmony documented the weekend in video, including a couple clips and photos of VoicePlay.
.
Back and forth
The boys popped home for a few days to do a couple corporate gigs — one of which will get its own post — before returning to Ohio for another weekend of shows and workshops. (Though Geoff did get a little concerned when a TSA officer at the Orlando airport recognized him after so many frequent trips.)
.
Wittenberg University show
VoicePlay performed a concert as part of the Wittenberg Series, with collegiate groups Just Eve and Wittmen Crew opening for them. The next day, they held a master class workshop for the students, who then followed them down the road to the next festival.
.
Ohio Wesleyan A Cappellooza
The second annual A Cappellooza brought together collegiate vocal groups from across the state. Participants included Denison University, Oberlin College, Wittenberg University, and the University of Akron, in addition to OWU itself. Given that year's theme of Disney music, VoicePlay were a natural fit as professional headliners for the night.
.
Celebrating love at home
The guys escaped the frozen north, and capped off November by playing local weddings on the last two weekends before finally taking some time off to spend the holidays with their families.

Geoff Keighley says not to expect many new games at Gamescom Opening Night Live
Since 2019, Opening Night Live has been a mainstay of Gamescom, the European version of E3, and we've grown accustomed to getting major game announcements during the preshow. Geoff Keighley, the host and organizer, has restrained those expectations this year. Keighley told VGC that this year’s show is “less about announcing brand new projects, and more about giving fans updates on some of the biggest games due out over the next year.” So, if you were hoping to see a GTA 6 trailer, get ready to be disappointed. https://twitter.com/geoffkeighley/status/1688929509838663680 This is unusual for Keighley, a born hypeman able to muster excitement for even the smallest of video games. Anyone who’s watched Summer Game Fest of The Game Awards will have gotten used to the phrase world premiere being plastered everywhere, so a more understand ONL makes for a drastic change of pace. Of course, just because Keighley has told VGC that ONL will be “an exciting show with new looks at many announced upcoming games” doesn’t mean he’s telling the truth. This could be a ploy to sow the seeds of doubt so that if a big reveal does happen, we don’t see it coming. Whatever the case, we won’t be manning our news desk based purely on these words alone. Gamescom’s Opening Night Live is set to air Aug. 22 at 1pm CT. It kicks off a long weekend of video game announcements, hands-on previews, interviews, and more. Dot Esports will have staff members reporting from Cologne, Germany, to bring the latest updates from the showcase. Read the full article

THINGS THAT HAPPENED AT THE HARTFORD PARX/IDKHOW SHOW
While I was waiting in line Parx came out of the tour bus and Otto and Geoff were normally dressed but Awsten had basically his whole face covered and his hood up and it looked very funny
They had those tear-off number papers from idkhow (from fearlessrecords’ ig) taped on the walls all around the line/tour bus!!
In line we sang a lot of random songs: 11:11, Death of a Bachelor, Bohemian Rhapsody, All Star, Mr. Brightside, I Write Sins Not Tragedies, and Welcome to the Black Parade, (& others)
Someone had a kazoo that they were playing (do you play a kazoo?) while we were singing
De’Wayne Jackson explained how Awsten came up to him after his show in Anaheim and “he was like ‘hey’ and I was like ‘hey’ and he was like ‘do you want to go on tour with us’ and I was like ‘yeah’”
Apparently he went to the bar afterwards and was right next to my mom at one point but she couldn’t tell him anything bc it was too loud :/ she did like it tho
Superwhatevr’s guitarist came out wearing a big flower crown thing and I was like I like these dudes already
After Superwhatevr’s main guy told us about his cousin committing suicide, we all held up our flashlights during the song and it was very cool ❤️
Also someone yelled “YOUR GUITARIST IS CUTE” and everyone laughed but I was like “I mean they’re right though”
Dallon said that ‘today and only today you are all my children’ 😭
Mentioned that we were his adopted children multiple times
“I’ll break your fucking face”
Got 2 pairs of 3D glasses from a fan after he said “you want me to look over here so I’m looking” and they had “you’re not thinking fourth dimensionally” (from back to the future) written on them and he liked it very much
They didn’t play visitation of the ghost!! Made me very sad but we got Absinthe instead so it’s okay
They played Iggy Pop too! But no Anyone I Know :(
I’m trying to remember what else happened during idkhow but I was too busy screaming and dancing in front of a wholly unimpressed mom (not mine)
Awsten said he was watching us the whole time during the opening acts from the box in the back of the room o.O but he said we were nice to everyone!
He yelled at the crowd to not drop a crowd surfer
“On the count of three why don’t you all throw whatever you want at us- actually no I’ll give you a whole ten seconds. Ready? GO!”
Got drawings from a fan and said “thanks! I look dead” and explained that whenever anyone draws him he usually looks dead
Someone threw a picture of Geoff and Nick Cage on stage and awsten laughed a lotttt
Someone threw a sign that said “BE NICE” and he said “is this Italian?” before realizing what it said
Someone threw another sign and it flew up and hit the ceiling before landing almost backstage, everyone thought it was hilarious
Awsten said “you know what I like about the north east? I don’t even have to ask you to do a pit you guys just do it anyway” or something like that
That’s about all I remember! I had to leave at 10:30 so there might’ve been other Parx stuff later & I feel like I forgot a bunch of the things that happened during the other acts but oh well
Feel free to add anything interesting if you were at the show too or if anything funny/special happened at your show!

Here's how atheist candidates fared in the 2022 elections
There are at least 15 nonreligious state senators.
This is a jump from 10 just two years ago. While they use different labels to describe themselves, these legislators show that you can represent people of faith even when you don’t believe in a Higher Power yourself.
Sen. Stanley Chang (HI)
Geoff Schroeder (ID)
Pinny Beebe-Center (NH)
Sen. William Brownsberger (MA)
Sen. Jeff Irwin (MI)
Sen. Jen McEwen (MN)
Sen. Megan Hunt (NE)
Sen. Andrew Zwicker (NJ) (wasn’t on the ballot)
Sen. William Peter Soules (NM) (wasn’t on the ballot)
Sen. Julie Mayfield (NC)
Nate Blouin (UT)
Rep. Rebecca White (VT)
Sen. Dick McCormack (VT)
Sen. Melissa Agard (WI) (wasn’t on the ballot)
Sen. Kelda Roys (WI) (wasn’t on the ballot)
Those whose races have not been called yet:
Jeanne Casteen (AZ)
Sen. Juan Mendez (AZ)
Brian Nash (CA)
Maria Peterson (IL)
You can see from the list that the senators include challengers, former state representatives, and incumbents whose open nonreligiosity wasn’t a dealbreaker for voters.
There are at least 44 nonreligious state representatives
With several races yet to be called, this is heading toward a record number of nonreligious State House members.
Jennifer Longdon (AZ)
Rep. Melody Hernandez (AZ)
Rep. Athena Salman (AZ)
Rep. Karen McCormick (CO)
Rep. Brianna Titone (CO)
Rep. Chris Kennedy (CO)

Rep. Rochelle Nguyen (NV)
Rep. Howard Watts III (NV)
Carry Spier (NH)
Rep. Sherry Dutzy (NH)
Rep. Amanda Bouldin (NH)
Rep. Kat McGhee (NH)
Rep. Jacqueline Chretien (NH)
Rep. Ellen Read (NH)
Rep. Harvey Epstein (NY)
Rep. Pam Marsh (OR)
Rep. Julie Fahey (OR)

Mark Rozzi (PA)
Robert Ziegler (PA)
Rep. Chris Rabb (PA)
Rep. Jon Rosenthal (TX)
Rep. Robin Scheu (VT)
Rep. Kathleen James (VT)
Rep. Barbara Rachelson (VT)
Monique Priestley (VT)
Rep. Strom Peterson (WA)
Rep. Francesca Hong (WI)
Those whose races have not been called yet:
Sara Aminzadeh (CA)
Alex Lee (CA)
Stephanie Vigil (CO)
Jennifer Parenti (CO)
Brooke Grossman (MD)
Joey Andrews (MI)
Carolyn Fluehr-Lobban (NH)
Wendy Thomas (NH)
Holly Hillhouse (NH)
Melanie Renfrew-Hebert (NH)
Courtney Neron (OR)
Zach Hudson (OR)
Rep. Ashlee Matthews (UT)
Mike Rice (VT)
Jessica Wadhams (WA)
As you can see, there’s a mix of incumbents and challengers, including in several red states.

Finding the End of the Line
Chapter Three - NOVEMBER
You’re furious and worried all at the same time.
Half of you is crying with fear, preparing for the worst, the other crying out of frustration that you’ve even been put into this situation.
You were literally about to head to bed when you got the call, a nurse at Lenox Hill Hospital saying you were needed because you were listed as the next of kin.
You were still listed as his next of kin.
Even after he broke up with you and you assumed he wanted nothing to do with you, he either didn’t remember you were his next of kin and that’s why he forgot to change it, or it was deliberate and he didn’t see an issue with leaving it.
But you did.
You gave your name to the nurse at the desk when you came in before Greg from Garden security gave the A-Okay for you to follow him to where Shawn was being held.
You managed to suck up the tears by the time you reached his room where he was still being evaluated, still in his gear and his skates.
The nurse looked like she was trying to listen to his lungs, holding his jersey in one hand while she used to the other to keep the stethoscope under his gear.
“Lungs sound fine.” She says, looking up at her attending. “We need an X-Ray and a CT to be sure.”
The attending nods. “Prep him. He’s gonna have to get rid of the gear, but do it carefully. If his ribs are broken, we don’t want one of them to puncture his lungs.”
You spot Dr. Kelly, the Rangers’ team doctor and raise a brow. Greg waits until the hospital staff and Dr. Kelly leave before turning to you, whispering.
“Shawn got hip checked by Conor Sheary. He flew pretty high. Landed on Reinhart’s stick pretty hard before he hit the ice. Stick didn’t even break. He had a hard time breathing at the rink, Kelly wanted to make sure it wasn’t a broken rib or a punctured lung.”
You nod, and Greg leaves to give you both alone time. That’s when Shawn turns his head to look at you, one side of his mouth quirking up in a small smile.
You approach the side of his bed cautiously, looking down to where his side is still exposed to you, a large bruise forming on his skin.
“What are you doing here?” Shawn asks. Ah, you think. So he just forgot.
“I’m still listed as your next of kin. So the hospital called me.”
“Oh.” He says, then holds his hand out, palm up. “Well thank you for coming.”
You don’t take his hand. “Why am I still your next of kin? Why didn’t you change it?”
Shawn frowns at you. “Who would I change it to?”
“I don’t know, maybe not your ex-girlfriend? Your mom, maybe. Or your dad. Hell, I’m pretty sure Geoff would qualify too.”
“Sorry if being here is a bother,” he spits. “Not like I’m hurt or anything.”
You sigh. “I didn’t mean it like that. I just...you broke up with me. Yet, you’ve been acting like it’s the other way around.”
“I just want to talk to you about it. Is that wrong?”
“When I don’t want to talk about it? Yeah.” You say, taking a step back. “What do you expect Shawn? You said you didn’t love me. I wasn’t just going to stick around and wait for you to change your mind.”
“I tried to reach out, to explain” He says. “All off season, I tried.”
You huff, shaking your head. “Well maybe I didn’t want you to try.”
That silences him.
The nurse comes back in, and they tell you to wait outside while Shawn gets X-Rays. He looks at you as he’s being carted away, and he reaches out to touch your hand, the nurse stopping so he can say what’s on his mind.
“You don’t have to stay.” He says. “You can go home. I can call Brady, or Zucc, or Kreids. They can come get me.”
You shake your head, resigning. You may not know where either of you stand, but situations like this - Shawn getting hurt during a game - they’ve always been your worst nightmare. Even if you wanted to - which you didn’t - you know that if you left him here alone, you’d regret it forever.
You squeeze his hand in turn. “I’m not going anywhere. I’ll be in the waiting room.”
-
It’s almost five in the morning when the hospital discharges him, having made the agreement that Dr. Kelly will monitor him as much as possible and return him to Lenox Hill if needed.
Shawn’s going to be out of the lineup for the next three to six weeks for his three bruised ribs, and because of the pain and trouble breathing, he also may need respiratory therapy. But above all, he need someone to be with him at all times until he’s out of the woods.
That someone meaning you.
It wasn’t like there was any other option. Dr. Kelly had a whole roster of players, none of Shawn’s teammates would be attentive or careful enough with him, calling his mother would be too much worry for her and stress Shawn out, and all of Shawn’s other friends were in Toronto.
Which left you as his only option.
You help him into the car Greg called for him before climbing alongside Shawn in the backseat, helping adjust his coat around his shoulders. Someone from the equipment staff had come to take Shawn’s gear and exchange it for the change of clothes he had at the rink, trying to make him a little more comfortable.
“You don’t have to stay with me.” Shawn says as the car starts to drive.
You’re already typing out an email to your boss letting him know you weren’t coming in that day when you say “Of course I do.”
The car stops by your apartment first so you can grab a few changes of clothes and toiletries, and Shawn thankfully falls asleep, unconscious and unaware of your new address.
You wake him once you get back to his place in Tribeca, the doorman helping you get Shawn inside and to the elevator. When the two of you make it to his floor, you grab his keys, opening the door to his place and helping him onto the couch before grabbing his things and bringing them inside, shutting and locking the door behind you.
He groans. “Oh no.”
You raise a brow. “What?”
“Nothing I just feel so gross. I didn’t even get to shower.” He says. “But I’ll be fine. Thanks for uh...helping me out.” He laughs at your flabbergasted look. “What?”
“I can’t just leave you here. They put pain meds in your system before you left the hospital, and they wouldn’t release you unless I agreed to be here for you.”
Shawn stares at you blankly. “So...what? You want to stay? When at the hospital you were yelling at me for leaving you as my next of kin?”
You groan. “Look Shawn. Granted, this isn’t what I wanted, sure, but I’m not just going to abandon you. Not when I made a promise to Dr. Kelly.”
He shrugs. “Alright. I’m not complaining.”
“We have to come to an agreement though.” You say, crossing your arms over your chest. “This is not so we can get back together. This is just so you can recover then get back on the ice. Nothing more, nothing less. Deal?”
He holds out his hand, shaking with the air. “Deal. Now can you help me to the shower? I can take care of the rest, but I just need to get there.”
-
The first few days of helping Shawn are rocky. He keeps forgetting about his ribs and tries to do things like he’s independent, like do his work outs, move around normally, and reach for things on the top shelf - the latter of which you ended up having to do a lot of, climbing on top of his counter, so now there’s one of his dining room chairs permanently in the kitchen for you.
You have to monitor his medicine intake, and you help him with his breathing exercises - just to make sure his lungs are fine.
It’s weird for you - you’re not used to being in his space like this, or taking care of him like this. Shawn had been hurt before, but that was when you were practically each other's shadows.
Now, you had to carve time out of your daily routine to come and see him - something you hadn’t done since completely changing your life after he broke up with you.
It was new and familiar all at the same time, and you didn’t know how to feel about it.
Last night, Shawn was in the kitchen and you were in the living room putting his KT Tape away when you heard a glass clatter to the floor and break, before Shawn groaned in frustration.
He had stomped off in anger to his room, slamming the door shut and then you heard the water in his shower running.
You quietly cleaned up the broken glass, vacuuming his kitchen floor for all the invisible pieces before you knocked on his door, telling him you were leaving.
You wanted to stay and make sure he was alright, and you could tell he wanted you to do the same, but you weren’t his girlfriend anymore. It wasn’t your place.
And Shawn could always tell you to stay if that’s what he really wanted.
Tonight, you promised you’d bring him takeout for dinner in an attempt to cheer him up. You grabbed his favorite Chinese food, cursing yourself silently as you remembered his order down to the last detail.
You let yourself into his building. His doorman, Jonah, smiles at you as he holds the door open.
“It’s good to see you around here again.” He says earnestly. You smile, too emotionally drained to pretend anymore.
When you let yourself into Shawn’s apartment, he’s laying on the couch on his good side, his injured side covered in his heated blanket.
“Did you ice it this morning?” You ask, forgoing the pleasantries as you set his food on the coffee table.
He sits up slowly, and you automatically move to help him. He nods at you when he’s upright, carefully reaching for the bag. You put your stuff down on the loveseat before heading into his kitchen to grab drinks and plates.
When you come back out, Shawn’s already going at his egg rolls, and you shake your head. “I really hope Coach Quinn doesn’t kill you for eating all this stuff.”
“Well are you gonna tell him?” Shawn asks through a mouthful. You roll your eyes, grabbing the beef with broccoli and putting some on your plate along with white rice.
The two of you eat in silence, and Shawn puts on the Rangers v. Flyers game. It’s thirteen minutes into the first, and about three minutes after you tune in, Travis Konecny scores a goal.
Shawn frowns when you accidentally let out a little “whoop,” staring at you with feign hurt. “Since when are you a Flyers fan?”
“Since when do you pout when your friend scores a goal?”
“It’s against my team.”
“You’re not on the ice, are you?”
Shawn narrows his eyes. “Obviously not.”
“Then go Flyers” You say, waving your hand around with mock enthusiasm.
Halfway through the second period, the food is gone and Shawn’s quietly snoring, head resting on his hand that’s propped up on the arm of the couch. You take the time to clean up, throwing containers away and loading up and running his dishwasher before you wake him gently.
“Shawn, maybe you should go to bed.” You say. They warned you his medication would make him drowsy, which is why he could only take it at night. You help him off of his couch and toward his room, making sure he got into bed okay before you said a quiet goodbye and went to leave.
You’re stopped in your tracks in his doorway when you hear him say “Thanks for your help baby.”
You look back at him, but he’s already out. You leave without another word, refusing to acknowledge the way his words made you feel.
You’d spent all this time getting over him, you weren’t going to let it be all for nothing.

Grimmons, Griflina, Simmons/Carolina, Simmons/Sister, Tucker/Sister, Tucker/Grif, Chex, Grif/Church, Grif/Tex, Docnut, CT/the guy she was with int he flashback (IDK his name), Ohio/Sherry, Sarge/GreyNotps: Grif/Sister, Sarge/mostly anyone, Carolina/TexFavourite friendship: Grimmons, but if I can’t count that Church and TuckerFavourite family: Grif SIbsFavourite episode: Oh God... ugh... currently S16′s finale, ParadoxFavourite season/book/movie: Season 8Favourite quote: Carolina’s line to Church about moving on in Season 10′s finaleMoment that made you fangirl/boy the hardest: The Reds and Blues kciking the shit out of the SIM Troopers in S15 Episode 19When it really disappointed you: So far? Mmm... nothing I can think of. Maybe focusing on a flashback for two seasons and not on the characters that the show is supposed to be about, but that still had good action sequences so...Saddest moment: Epsilon’s final death in the S13 finaleMost well done character death: Same as aboveFavourite guest star: Umm... IDK if this counts since his role is currently reccuring, but SungWon Cho as Atlus.Favourite cast member: Geoff Ramsey (Grif)Character you wish was still alive: HugginsOne thing you hope really happens: Huggins comes backMost shocking twist: Church being an AIWhen did you start watching/reading: Two years ago just as RWBY Volume 4 was wrapping up and I thought it was time to finally check it out.Trope you wish they would stop using: Ugh... none I can think of. I’d say the Fakeout Deaths regarding Church... but they DID stop using it.One thing this show/book/film does better than others: Feel dramatic and emotional while still being hilarious and stupid.Funniest moments: Too many to count, but the funniest episode imo is S15 Episode 5.Couple you would like to see: GRIMMONSActor/Actress you want to join the cast: That’s a good question. Maybe Monica Rial since they got her for RWBY and Gen:Lock. She’d be fun~Most boring plotline: Most of the plot in Season 4Best flashback/flashfoward if any: The ones in S15 Episode 5 because of how stupid they areMost layered character: ChurchScariest moment: Epsilon’s final sacrifice and his final monologue on having faith in getitng through, even if you wont se eit and know if the sacrifice is worth it.Grossest moment: The scene in the Recycling PSA with all the rotting corpses. Even Grif got grossed out.Best looking male: Of the ones we’ve seen the faces of? Mmm... LocusBest looking female: CarolinaWho you’re crushing on (if any): Look aboveMost beautiful scene (scenery/shot wise): Probably the beach map used in S15 and 16Unanswered question/continuity issue/plot error that bugs you: The entire time travel plot in S3. At what point did you fall in love with this show/book: While I liked the show after I binged Seasons 1-13, I didn’t really become a fan until S15 when Grif quit the team. Why? Because it was something I didn’t expect and was allowing a character who I previously felt was just... there along with the other Reds get character development that made sense for his character. And it’s how Grif became my favorite character as well. Thanks Joe!
