@wolfstarmicrofic March 26 – prompt 26: Amortentia – word count 946
Amortentia - The world’s strongest love potion, does not create love but obsession
Remus had feared that particular Potions lesson since the smile on Slughorn’s face when he had announced it.
“Of course, Amortentia’s use is forbidden, and its brewing strictly restricted, therefore you will not learn how to make it,” the Professor had said. “I will brew it personally and you will smell it, because its smell is not only different for everyone but it  also corresponds to the smell of the person you’re most attracted to.”
There had been whispers in the classroom, and the few established couples in their year had smiled at each other.
“Yes, yes, you think you’ll have it easy,” Slughorn had chuckled. “But I’ve seen my fair share of people smelling something completely unexpected in Amortentia, so be warned!”
So now they were gathered around a fuming cauldron, their faces in various degrees of anxiousness.
“Well, come on!” Slughorn clapped his hands. “Who’s first? Mr Potter, be brave! After all, your love for Ms Evans is no secret to anyone!”
James grimaced, but he moved closer to the cauldron all the same.
“I smell…” he took a deep breath. “I smell the Library. And the Quidditch pitch in the sun and…” he hesitated. “Mint tea.”
Remus frowned. He knew Lily’s scent better than anyone thanks the the wolf’s nose, but none of those things belonged to her. He shot a look at James, who immediately looked at his feet.
“Ms McKinnon.”
“I, uhm,” Marlene went beet-red. “Coffee, pencils and peaches.”
“Interesting, wonder who that could be?” Sirius chuckled.
Even Remus remembered that glorious day when Dorcas Meadowes had shown up to the Gryffindor Quidditch team practice and Marlene had flown right into a goalpost when Dorcas had bitten into one of the peaches she had brought along.
“Now now, Mr Black, we don’t tease our classmates about Amortentia,” Slughorn smiled. “You never know what’s in store for you! Ms MacDonald, please.”
Remus swallowed. He knew perfectly well what would happen the second he got a closer whiff of the potion. He would smell leather, or cigarettes, or the firewhiskey he had drunk at that party when Sirius had ended up sitting in his lap and he had realised he was stupidly, desperately and hopelessly in love with him. He would have to lie about it to the whole class.
“Summer breeze, books and… leather?” Mary groaned. “Oh, come on!”
“I know, I’m unforgettable,” Sirius winked at her.
“And to smell like books you would have to open one,” Mary retorted.
Peter was next. He took a deep breath, got suddenly pale, then turned bright red and stumbled back.
“Are you quite alright, Mr Pettigrew?”
“Is it possible to smell more than one person, Professor?” Peter whispered.
“Ah. Yes, it’s happened before. Attraction is variable and not even magic can always determine if there’s only one person for you. What did you smell?”
“Roses, violets and lemons.”
Remus recognised the perfumes Peter’s last three girlfriends had worn and he looked at James. Maybe even what he had smelled belonged to multiple people.
“Mr Lupin, go ahead.”
Remus’s stomach twisted and he braced himself getting closer to the cauldron. But none of the smells he had thought about filled his nose. Instead, other things came up and none were Sirius’s smell.
“Well, Mr Lupin?”
Remus stepped back. He didn’t even have to lie then.
“Fireplace ash, late night rain and gingerbread,” he said.
He looked across the room to Sirius. Sirius was staring back, wide-eyed and pale as a ghost. Remus was about to say something when Sirius stumbled back and suddenly ran out of the classroom. Without even thinking, Remus ran after him. He ran along the dungeon corridors and up the stairs, into the main corridor and almost colliding against Regulus rounding a corner.
“What’s gotten into you two?” Regulus exclaimed, barely managing to not spill his tea.
“Where’s Sirius?”
“Outside, but-”
Remus didn’t stay to hear the rest of the sentence. As he ran towards the castle door, the wolf’s nose registered the smell coming from Regulus’s tea. Mint.
He finally caught up with Sirius at the lake.
“Padfoot?” he panted.
“What you smelled in the Amortentia…” Sirius’s voice was shaking.
“I don’t even know what it was…”
“I do.”
Sirius turned around. His eyes were glistening with tears, and Remus’s heart dropped as he fought with all he had the urge to get closer and take him in his arms and kiss him until he felt better.
“It had just rained the night I ran from my parents’ house,” Sirius said slowly. “When I fell into the Potters’ fireplace Effie had just gotten gingerbread out of the oven.”
“How could I smell your memories, Pads?” Remus whispered.
“Maybe Amortentia works differently on a wolf’s nose. But why did you smell mine specifically, Moony?”
Remus’s shoulders slumped. How he wished now he had smelt what he had prepared himself to and lied about it.
“I…”
“Before class started I sneaked in as Padfoot,” Sirius murmured. “I wanted to see if I smelt something different as a dog.”
“And?”
“I smelled you,” Sirius looked up at him.
Remus’s heart skipped a beat.
“You did?” he breathed. “And what did you smell as you?”
Sirius took a step forward, bringing them so close Remus could almost count all of his eyelashes.
“I don’t care,” he said. “As Padfoot I didn’t smell just things that reminded me of you, Moony. I smelled all of you. I think that’s proof enough.”
Remus started to nod, but then he moved, or Sirius did or they both did and half a second later they were kissing, hanging on each other as if their lives depended on it.

Remus loves books, he loves reading so much and Sirius knows this. He knows this so well because half the time when he wants Remus to look at him, and pay attention to him, Remus simply just won’t because he’s so bloody, infuriatingly, adorably invested in whatever book it is he’s reading.
It doesn’t even matter the genre, Sirius has learnt, nor that it’s fictional or otherwise. Just words on yellowing pages, with cracked spines and a warm smell emanating from within, that’s what Remus loves. He likes to escape there, to lose focus, time, and reality. And Sirius respects it.
He used to love reading himself, when he was younger. His favorite books were fantasy action. He got lost in the tales and strange lands, imagining himself as the noble hero, saving lives and running off into the sunset on a noble steed, or perhaps even with a lover.
He’s lost the knack for it these days, mostly. Sometimes he still picks up a book to read, if it really captivates him. Or if it’s so painstakingly good that Remus, rather than just expressing that it was enjoyable to read and outlining the basic plot, rambles about it for ages. Especially if he goes back and reads it a second time over, taking a quill to the pages, underlining his favorite phrases, adding exclamation marks for emphasis, and writing out every thought he has about it.
Sirius always reads those, but mostly for Remus’ input. And mostly so he can sit there and listen to Remus talk about it again, and get so brilliantly excited when Sirius agrees that particular characters sucked, or when they disagree about how certain plot points were brilliant, or how painstakingly heartbreaking the use of symbolism added so much depth to the entire book.
Sirius has two large bookshelves in his room. Both of them he’s built himself because he refuses to let Effie and Flea spend any extra money on him, and he himself doesn’t want to spend money on bookshelves when he can just make them. He also made Remus one, when he first learnt just how much Remus likes to read, when he first moved in with James. He’s still very proud of it to this day.
Point is, he has two large bookshelves, and they’re each only half full of books. There are other things on them, taking up the space. Such as his record collection, which is excessive now, and brilliant, and takes up a lot of space. It’s also riddled with gadgets, and thingamabobs, and dust collectors, and whatsits, as well as little things he’s tinkered.
He’s building himself another shelf at the moment, this one will have a stained glass door- so, more of a cabinet, he supposes. It’s made especially for his records, measured to fit the height and width of them perfectly with just a little wiggle room. That, once it’s done, will clear out plenty of space on his bookshelf for more books.
He’ll build himself another shelf or two, he thinks. Ones to mount one the wall, a place to keep all his little things that don’t really have a place, other than randomly on his bookshelves. He wants to leave as much room as possible.
Because, see, Sirius doesn’t read much. And the books he does read are already found on his shelf, or Remus’, because he borrows them.
But Remus reads a lot. He’s always looking for new books, everywhere he goes. Sirius can’t count the times he’s been pulled into random stores just to look at books for hours, only for Remus to walk out empty handed.
Because Remus doesn’t have the money for books. He never has. Maybe a few, here and there, cheep ones that is, from second hand stores. And on his birthday and Christmas his parents spoil him by picking out a couple of big ones.
But Remus’ money is saved for things other than books.
That hasn’t been much of an issue, because there are libraries. He spends a lot of time in the library at Hogwarts, when they’re there. And over the breaks, he spends it in the library by his house. And he borrows books from Sirius, and James, and Lily, and Peter, and Mary, and Marlene too.
But the thing is, Remus is running out of books. And sure, he’s happy to read the non fictional books, ones about the history of magic, or life in the trenches of the First Muggle World War, or how to bake cakes, or the biography of Salazar Slytherin, or whatever the hell else he can find. But nothing captivates him the way a good story can.
He needs tales to escape in between the more boring stuff. Remus never raves about the non-fiction. Sure, he tells Sirius random facts when he finds them out, or puts his new knowledge to use. But the novelty of a made up world excites him.
Sirius likes to watch Remus read fiction. He likes to watch Remus shift in his chair and tense his shoulders, he likes to watch blush bloom over Remus’ cheeks with a giddy smile as his eyes twinkle and lock onto the page. He also likes when he hears Remus’ sharp gasps, and gets to look up to find him sitting in the most awkward, on edge positions as he fixedly reads, and watches as tears begin to roll down Remus’ cheeks and dance over freckles.
He mostly likes when Remus smiles at his page, sure and familiar, a knowing look in his eye that makes him glimmer right before he looks up to try and find Sirius in the room, and blush immediately when he does before tucking his face back into the pages. Sirius likes that one the best, because he knows, whatever Remus read, it made him think of Sirius. He especially likes when Remus scribbles something on the page right after, or just dog ears the corner so he’ll never loose the page.
Sirius really likes when Remus finds a good story, and Remus clearly also likes when he finds a good Story. Remus doesn’t have the funds to by himself stories and has read his way through the entirety of his local libraries fictional section, as well as everything on Sirius’ own shelf twice.
But Sirius does have the funds for books. He has part of the inheritance his uncle Alphard left when he died, he has his weekly allowance from the Potters, as does James, and he has money saved up from working in Mrs Florence’ garden across the road all summer.
So he goes out, and buys books, and hopes Remus hasn’t read them.
He gets home, and puts them on his own shelf, because the last time Sirius bought a book for Remus just simply because he wanted to, Remus slapped him with the book, made his knee buckle with his cane, and told Sirius to never spend his money on him again.
So naturally, Sirius stole him a book, and Remus hit him twelve times with the new book, called him a stupid fucking idiot, and made him promise to never do it again.
He then promptly went and read the book, and made a note at the very back that Sirius was the one who got it for him, with a star placed by his name, thinking Sirius wouldn’t notice. Because Sirius would never snoop through Remus’ bookshelf when he’s not looking to try and read whatever annotations from Remus’ brain he could, hoping to find one that Remus made after doing his adorable glance and thinking of Sirius. No, no he’d never do that, Remus, he promises.
So Sirius buys himself books, ones that wouldn’t look too out of place sitting on his shelves, ones he doesn’t recognise Remus ever holding (though, that doesn’t mean much as Remus reads at the pace of a race car, Sirius is sure there’s a new book in his hand each time Sirius looks up), and prays Remus will like them. He thinks he will. He likes most books.
Sirius just hopes he makes annotations in them before he remembers they’re not his books, and puts them back on Sirius’ shelf to find.
So Sirius stacks them on his shelf, and waits for Remus to take the bait.
The first time Remus comes into his room once they’re there, he clearly notices, but doesn’t comment. So Sirius goes out to buy another.
The second time, he makes a comment, asking if Sirius ever actually reads the books he carelessly spends money on, and nothing else.
So Sirius buys another book, and begins to read the one with the most interesting cover. He makes sure the spine is cracked, the pages withered, and a crease on the cover from bending it wrong.
Remus notices it, the next time he visits, and asks if Sirius enjoyed it. He didn’t mind it, but he tells Remus he really liked the character named Liam (who reminds him vividly of Remus), and recommends it. Remus takes it home. Sirius rambles to James about how brilliantly smart his plan is for hours.
The next time Remus comes around, he returns the book. It’s in a similar state to when Sirius had last seen it, besides a few extra wrinkles on the spine, and creased pages. Sirius smiles and admires it for a while once Remus has left, with another book, another one Sirius made himself read, he didn’t like that one at all.
Naturally, Remus really enjoyed that one. They argue about it for a while, and Remus tosses the book at Sirius with a laugh, and Sirius resists the urge to throw himself back at Remus.
James and Peter go out in the sun, but Remus’ hip is bad that day, so Sirius stays inside with him. He sits and watches Remus read, it’s one of his own books, one he’s read at least four times before. He’s got a pen between his teeth that he keeps pulling out to scribble things down before placing it back.
Sirius wishes he were a pen.
Remus finishes his book and whines about it for a while, because he doesn’t have another, and he can’t stand to go outside. So Sirius gets up, grabs a book, and plops it in Remus’ lap. Remus blushes. It’s some muggle book, it’s about magic folk, and fairies, and a really cool protagonist with long black hair and tattoos and a winning grin.
He’s not even shy when he tells Remus he bought it so he could read about himself. Remus lightly thwacks him with his cane and tells Sirius to fuck off.
Sirius sits on the bed, and grabs Remus’ discarded book, and opens it up to page one. Already there, marked in blurry ink on the first page reads: this is what it feels like to have a star wish on you, right back. Sirius smiles, and begins to read, mostly for Remus’ annotations, but the book is good no less. It’s about doomed love, written through the metaphore of the night sky, and unsettling undertones of cannibalalistic desire, all wrapped up in one neat little bow that ties itself off with an accidental murder suicide.
Honestly, Sirius understands why Remus likes it now. He’s heard Remus talk about it in great detail before but bloody hell, it’s good. And Remus’ annotations make it better.
“Bloody-fuck.” Remus gasps, catching Sirius off guard. He sticks his head up and wonders how on earth Remus had gotten to the “bloody-fuck” part of the story yet, that’s over halfway through, and they’ve only been reading for twenty minuets.
“What’s the issue?” Sirius asks.
“Do you have an eraser?” Remus asks, “A magic one, for ink? Can’t use my wand.”
“Erm, no…” Sirius mutters. He knows Flea has one in his office, and he’s allowed to go get it if he ever needs, knowing it sits in the top left drawer, right by the paperclips. But he doesn’t say that, not yet.
“Fuck, I’m sorry.” Remus mumbles, “I forgot it wasn’t- I just… I still had the pen in my mouth.”
Sirius feels his heart race, “Remus, did you… write in my book?”
Remus looks so ashamed, and he holds up the neat pages and flips through all that he’s read, and… yeah, there’s a lot in there already. Scribbled lines, phrases, exclamation points, question marks, little stars drawn everywhere.
Sirius feels himself fall a little harder in love, “You can write in my book.” He mutters and swallows, “You can write in all of my books, whatever you like. It doesn’t matter, I probably won’t read most of them anyway.” Sirius lies. If they have Remus’ annotations he certainly will.
“Why would you buy them then?”
Sirius shrugged, “I had empty space on my bookshelf… I like having them there. Besides, I could read them, you know, I just… usually don’t.”
Remus snickers and shakes his head, “You’re strange- like a dragon. You’re a dragon that hoards treasure. Your treasure is books.”
Wrong, Sirius thinks, my treasure is you.
“A dragon.” Sirius mutters, “Do you fear me, Remus, a big mighty dragon?”
Remus scoffs and turns back to the book, “You’re such a small dragon you don’t even have the ability to fly.”
Sirius throws his pillow at Remus’ head. Remus laughs, flipping Sirius off, which only spurs him on.
Sirius promptly jumps off the bed and changes to Padfoot midway through the air, landing right on the arm of the chair Remus occupies before crawling all over him.
“Get off me, you stupid mutt!” Remus laughs, tacking Padfoot away, “You’re going to rip the book.”
Padfoot only barks and wags his tail high in the air.
Remus laughs again, sticking his good leg out where Sirius now sits on the ground, he uses it to pet Sirius’ side as he fixes his hair and book.
Padfoot tilts his head up at Remus, tongue hanging out of his mouth, as he watches.
“I can really write in it?”
Padfoot scoots closer, licking Remus’ knee.
Remus snickers and shoes him away, “You’re so gross, Padfoot. Your dog slobber stinks, you know that?”
Padfoot barks, resting his paw on top of Remus’ hand for a moment.
“Fine.” Remus breaths, “But you can write in mine too, that means.”
Sirius will be, he knows it.
Padfoot, however, watches Remus go back to reading, too invested to pay him any mind now. He plucks the pen from his ear and starts making more marks. Padfoot rests his head on Remus’ knee, and mindlessly, Remus reaches out to pet him.
That’s how James and Peter find them, two hours later. Remus deeply concentrated, halfway through his book, and Padfoot looking up at him like he hung the sky. James teases Sirius mercilessly about it later.
Over the week, Sirius reads. He reads Remus’ book, the one he left behind so Sirius could finish reading. And Sirius takes a red inked pen, because one time Remus said Sirius looks good in the colour red, and makes his own annotations. There aren’t many, as there isn’t much room left and Remus has basically said it all, but he underlines the things he likes, and draws wonky little circles half shaded in by the things that make him think of Remus (they’re supposed to be moons, and he hopes Remus won’t be able to tell at first, because the first wonky circle is placed right next to the phrase: nothing consumes her they way the need to taste his skin on her tongue does-).
The next time Sirius sees Remus, they’re at the Lupins. He brought Remus’ book with his own red annotations, and two other books, one about space, and one about a dog that dies.
He’s almost at the end of the one where the dog dies, and it’s honeslty devastating. It’s bound to make Remus sad. So very, very sad.
They sit on Remus’ bed, Remus up by the headboard, and Sirius himself laying over the foot on his stomach, a pillow tucked under his chin.
He’s crying, down to the last pages of his book, his heart being ripped out of his chest as he reads. When he started crying, Remus silently extended his legs and crossed them, letting his heels sit on the small of Sirius’ back. Because Remus is brilliant, and he knows Sirius likes to be touched when he’s sad.
He closes his book with a sigh, buries his face in the pillow, and screams. Remus laughs.
“You have to read this, Moony. It’s devastating.” Sirius sobs.
“If you insist.” Remus agrees, still reading his book.
“The dog dies!” Sirius rolls onto his side to look at him, “He dies, Remus, isn’t that horrible. I mean- it was bad enough for me, I can’t imagine what it would be like for you.”
Remus glances up over his book at raises an eyebrow at Sirius.
“You know…” Sirius sniffles, rubbing his nose before waving his hand through the air, “Because I’m a dog, and you won’t be able to stop thinking about me, and losing me, and-“
A pillow was thrown at his head so hard it shoved him back. But Sirius loves the dramatics, so he takes it further, and rolls until he topples off the end of the bed and groans about betrayal. Remus pretends not to listen, Remus continues to read. Sirius wants to give him the world.
Sirius eventually gets up and selects a book off of Remus’ shelf, admiring his own handiwork for a moment. He flicks the book open, and finds no annotations, so he puts it back. He grabs another, finds the same, and repeats.
“What are you looking for?” Remus asks.
Unashamedly, Sirius tells him, “One with your thoughts written out. Those are my favourites.” He picks up another, sifts through, and puts it back.
He turns when Remus is quiet for a while, he’s grinning, like he expects to find Remus with his head in his book, so distracted he didn’t hear. But he’s not.
Remus is blushing, and he’s looking at Sirius so curiously.
“I like your thoughts.” Sirius clears his throat, “You’re smart, they’re interesting. Besides, I hate not knowing what’s going to happen, you always manage to make correct predictions, so good at picking up clues.”
Remus smiles and ducks his head before reaching out and grabbing a book off his bedside. He tosses it at Sirius, “That one’s a children’s novel. It’s about a frog. I’ve annotated it seven times.”
“Brilliant.” Sirius grins, plopping himself back down on his bed and opening the book, “I love frogs.”
Remus laughs, a quiet laugh, embarrassed and bashful. They both continue to read. Sirius pulls out his pen and scribbles a red, wonky circle when the frog finds himself in love.
Four weeks later, and Sirius and Remus have been swapping books back and forth in trade. Remus takes his pick of whatever is on Sirius’ shelf, or whatever he’s “accidentally” left at Remus’ place, and in turn, Sirius reads whatever books Remus has annotated. Eventually, he begins to read his own, purely for Remus’ annotations.
Remus never fails to leave annotations, and Sirius leaves them right back.
One time, Sirius even worked up the courage to write annotations in one of his own books before handing it off for Remus to read, just in hopes of Remus liking them too.
He does. He circles Sirius’ annotations with his own black ink, and adds little stars in random places, and he even goes so far as to argue with Sirius in the margins.
This week, they meet at the movies with James and Peter. As they wait in the popcorn line together, Sirius hands him two books. One of Remus’ own that he’s returning, and one from his collection. He read it, another book about love. There was a line about reliability, and loyalty, and pure, blinding admiration, even in petty fights and bickering, and Sirius took a bold step and wrote: This reminds me of us.
Remus returns the book about a fierce dragon, and slaps a new one in his hands about a man driven to murder by his untidy roommate, “Maybe you’ll learn something from this one, hmm?”
Sirius didn’t get it until the book was done, and he had read every snarky remark aimed right at Sirius that Remus wrote, including the note at the end that requested Sirius keep his mess to his corner of the room before Remus is driven to a murderous fate. Sirius laughed so hard James came rushing into the room out of pure concern.
The next time they exchanged books, Sirius gave him one titled The Picture of Dorian Grey. Remus had already read it. Sirius scoffed, knowing this would happen sooner or later. However, when Sirius moved to put it back in his bag, Remus snatched it away. He only borrowed it last time, so now he could write his annotations, which excited him. It excited Sirius too.
“I have a strange one for you.” Remus said, handing it over nervously, “I… I’ve read this one a lot.”
“Okay?” Sirius asked, taking it slowly, looking at the cover, so withered he couldn’t clearly make out the image.
Remus swallowed, “It’s really one of my favorites.”
“I can’t wait, then.” Sirius grinned, flicking through it quickly and seeing almost no room to leave his own messages.
Remus nodded, “Just… just beware, okay?”
“Okay, Remus, I’ve got it.” Sirius snickered, wiggling the book like a fan, “What, has it got like, wild kinky sex in it. Does this book delve into your deepest desires, Remus? Does it make you feel sexy?” Sirius teases.
Remus swallows and turns his gaze away.
Sirius’ jaw goes slack, “Oh, my Merlin- I… it does.”
Remus blush’s, “Look- it’s not like that, it’s just-“ He mumbles, hiding his head in his hands, “Yes, there is a sex scene in it, near the end. It’s very long, and very detailed. But that’s not- I’m not trying to be weird, okay? I’d prefer to not give you a sexy book-“
Sirius snickers, “I was only teasing, Remus, it’s fine. Is that the weird bit? The long, sensual sex scene?”
“Mostly… it’s… well, I suppose it’s everything that leads up to it.” Remus swallows.
“Got it.” Sirius nods, and because he’s his own worst enemy, he asks, “Do you get off to it?”
Remus’ front door promptly slams in his face, and no matter how hard he knocks, or laughs, or pretends he’s joking, Remus does not open the door.
Sirius goes home, and he very pointedly does not pick up the book. He’s too nervous now. To nervous to read about this sex scene in Remus’ most favorite book and wonder if he’s ever… Sirius flops face down into his pillow and goes to annoy James instead.
When they meet up to swap back, Sirius still hasn’t read the book yet. He makes up an excuse, telling Remus he hasn’t been focused enough to read something important. Remus doesn’t seem to believe him, he seems so disappointed. He gives Sirius back The Picture Of Dorian Gray and barely talks for the remainder of their time spent together.
When Sirius gets home, he flips through Remus’ annotations, reading them all, and having to do a double take at one. Sure, there are plenty of snide comments about Sirius’ good looks, comparing him to Dorian and making theories on how Sirius must be in a similar situation. But there’s one that makes Sirius’ heart race: I’m annoyed at you. This entire fucking book Dorian’s been described as the most beautiful fucking man on earth and the only face I can fucking picture is yours you bloody idiot. Stop being beautiful, please? It’s detrimental to my sanity.
Sirius’ breath hitched in his throat. He ran to James, immediately, crashing into his room and jumping on the bed, not even caring he’s just interrupted James with his shirt off in a very compromising position with Lily. He doesn’t even care that she’s there.
“Look at this, James, read-“
“Really, Sirius? Now?”
“I’m sorry, Prongs, but you’ve got your happy ending so I don’t care- look.” Sirius shoves the page in his face, “What does this mean?”
James shoves on his glasses and gives Lily an apologetic glance before reading, “What the fuck do you think it means, Sirius?”
“I don’t know.” Sirius breathes, running his fingers over the black ink, “It could mean anything-“
“Sirius!” James laughed, flinging his hands into the air, “It means exactly whatever the hell your heart thinks it means, probably.”
Sirius glares and James and turns to Lily, “You’re smart, what do-“
“Might I remind you, Remus is my best friend, Sirius?” Lily smirked, “So no, I won’t be saying anything, and if you’re smart, you’ll know that’s enough. And I warn you, I will be telling him about this.”
Sirius swallowed and glared at her, “Shit.”
“Shit in deed, Romeo.” She giggled, “Go away please.”
“Yeah, yeah.” He sighed, crawling off the bed, “Not too loud, please.”
James tossed a pillow at him.
“Hey, Sirius?” Lily asked, catching his attention, “You should read his book.”
“Right.” Sirius swallows, and very pointedly does not do that. He goes to make dinner with Effie and Flea, and ask them questions about it instead. They just say the same things James did, and they’re old and happy and very in love, so he actually trusts that.
That night, he lies in bed, a lamp over his shoulder, and he learns extactly why Remus seemed so nervous to share this book. Especially about the sex part, which was… well, it was really sexy. Like, so sexy. Sirius didn’t think anything could ever get that sexy. All he could think about whilst reading was Remus, and how badly he wanted to do those things to Remus, and how he wanted Remus to do those things to him. It was terrible, really.
So good, and so terrible, and so delightfully strange to read about. Because, in the start, the main character was engaged to a very wonderful woman. But by the end, he had left her. He left her because he loved a man. Two men in love. Remus’ favorite book was gay, with so many annotations about his own experiences, with a gay sex scene, with annotations about how much Remus liked the sex scene.
And most of all…
Sirius knew exactly what a lot of those annotations meant. Because around them were little stars. Within them they used “he” and “him” and terms of longing and yearning and… and then it got to a point midway through the book where things changed.
Remus stopped writing things like: I think of him. He’s more beautiful. I’m scared to lose him too.
Instead, he just used one word. One word scribbled everywhere. Beside so many different phrases, with different intentions and different feelings. One word that shattered it all, and that word was: Sirius.
Beside the phrase, he’s so beautiful, I hate him.
Beside the phrase, I miss him, I never got to have him but I miss him, no less.
Beside the phrase, kissing the expanse of his throat is something I think about often, no thought could be as beautifully filthy as mine when he’s around.
Beside the phase, I love him.
“Wakey, wake- oh, you’re up love. Are you alright, I’ve never seen you up with the sun before.” Effie teases as she walks into his room.
Sirius turns to her, eyes blinking. They’re red rimmed from crying. He didn’t realise it was morning. He still has the book in his lap, open to the last page where there’s a message. It’s an apology, and then that apology is taken right back and replaced with a heart.
“I didn’t sleep.” He muttered.
“Oh…” Effie mutters when she sees the state of him, “My darling boy, are you-“
“I have to go.” Sirius whispers.
“What?” She asks.
“I have to go.” Sirius says with more urgency, and he scrambles to his feet and makes a run for it.
“Shoes, dear!” Effie calls, and Sirius runs right back. He stuffs his feet in his slippers and runs off again, “Teeth!”
Sirius races back and hurriedly brushes his teeth. She calls for him again to change his clothes and eat when he tries to leave again, but he doesn’t bother. He just grabs the book and runs, tying not to slip in his slippers.
“Where’s he going?” James asked, standing his his doorway.
“Im not sure.” Effie said, “He’s still in his pyjamas. All he had was a book-“
“A blue one?” James asked.
Effie nodded. James rapt his knuckles on the doorframe and ducked his head inside, “Lily, he’s doing it!”
“Oh, yes!” She shouts back.
James gets a slap on the back of his head, “Did you sneak your girlfriend in over night, James Fleaumont Potter?”
James goes red, “Erm… no?”
Sirius is rushing. He couldn’t get Elvendork up and running, she still needs a few more tweaks. So he’s running there instead. All the way to Remus’ at who knows what time of morning.
When he gets there, he’s panting. He knocks on the door, but there’s no answer.
Lyall is probably at work, Hope is probably tending to her garden out back, and Remus is no doubt still sleeping. He’s worse than Sirius, he’ll sleep until something wakes him up, meaning he’ll sleep through till the next morning if nothing does.
Sirius doesn’t wait, he’s around the corner and shoving open Remus’ window, and hauling himself in before he can even think about it.
The desk that usually sits under Remus’ window is not there. So when Sirius dives in head first, expecting to catch himself on a desk, he’s rather shocked to come toppling down to the floor face first.
He groans, splayed out there on the ground, looking at the roof.
“What… the fuck?” He hears Remus mutter, and he pokes his head up to find that Remus is in the process of rearranging his room.
Sirius furrows his brow and looks at the time, “Why the fuck are you up and active at seven ten in the morning?” He runs his face and sits up, “Why are you rearranging your room?”
“I was stressed.” Remus swallowed, “Didn’t sleep.”
“Why?” Sirius groaned, his nose hurts, so he pokes it, which doesn’t help.
“Lily said you read what I wrote about you in Dorian Gray… called me, said you were asking what it meant.”
“Yeah, uhm- ow.” Sirius poked his face again.
“Don’t do that.” Remus grumbled, reaching for his cane and walking over to help Sirius up.
“Sorry.” Sirius yawns, his lack of sleep catching up to him.
“Why are you up?” Remus asked, “You don’t do anything before nine if you don’t have too.”
Sirius smiles, Remus knows him so well, “Didn’t sleep either.”
“Why not?” Remus hummed, casually leaning on his cane in that suave way he does. James doesn’t think it’s suave, he tells Sirius it’s just normal, but Sirius knows better than James. He’s blinded by love, of course he knows better than James.
“Was reading.” Sirius swallowed, holding up the book and wiggling it in his hands, “Uh… I made some annotations back… where they fit.”
Yeah, basically just Remus’ name right beside his own, everywhere, and lots of little moons. He even underlined one very sexy line in the dirty scene that really made him think of Remus, and drew and arrow pointing to it, and wrote both of their names with a heart around them.
“Oh.” Remus swallowed, taking the book when Sirius handed it back.
They were both blushing.
“Go on, open it.” Sirius mumbled, nodding for encouragement.
So slowly, tentatively, Remus did. He opened the book, midway through, and found his name, and little moons, and a million hearts scribbled everywhere there was space.
Remus dropped the book.
Sirius leant down to pick it up, because he’s always willing to do things for Remus. He always will be. He buys books with all the money he’s meant to be saving, to put them on his own shelf, so that Remus might browse and find something he likes. He just wants to please Remus. To make him happy. To make his life a little simpler.
“Oh, careful, it’s on the brink of falling-“ As Sirius stood back up with it, Remus kissed him. Very quick and very short but very on the lips, “apart.” Sirius squeezed out, “Oh.”
“Oh.” Remus muttered.
“Well…” Sirius swallowed, walking past Remus to put the book down on the desk. Because Sirius is respectful of Remus’ things, always has been, and what he wants to do to Remus right now is probably not very respectful. He turns back, and he grabs him, with everything he has, “You’re mine now.”
“Oh…” Remus mumbled as Sirius kissed him, pulling him down onto the bed, careful to help take the weight off Remus’ hip. Because he’s always thinking of Remus like that.
He lays them down, the way that makes Remus most comfortable, and he presses tight against him, and he kisses Remus with all the strength, and love, and devotion he has.
Sirius never stops buying books, and Remus pretends he never figures out what Sirius is doing. And in their own little house, when they buy one a few years later, Sirius fills a whole room with bookshelves just for Remus, and fills them until they’re overflowing.
He never gets tired of watching Remus read. And he never gets tired of seeing his own name written down in the margins of whatever love story Remus just finished reading.
★ ★ ★
This came to me in a dream. I don’t even know why. It was a vision and I just had to write it so… enjoy?
Also, I just had the image of the Ben Barnes fancast edits using the Dorian Grey clips in my head whilst writing this so I had to reference it. I’m pretty sure canonically Dorian doesn’t even look remotely like Sirius, and honeslty, that just makes Remus’ pining even more pathetic lamo.
Also, none of these books (besides Dorian) referenced are real. I wrote this between 2-4 am so I really had no brain cells left that could use real references lol. This was just fun.
If you’d like to read more of my stuff you can find it here <3

How far I can see
Sirius learned from a young age to always be aware of his surroundings. Let's see where it brought him.
 Sirius knew when Mother was in a bad — or “worse”, in better wording — mood just as he heard her stepping into the room and when it was better to just skip dinner altogether and avoid one of Father’s rage outbursts — not that he was starving himself; Kreacher would bring his plate later. He also knew was what upsetting Regulus before he could open his mouth. No one noticed that about him — not that anyone paid any attention to his needs anyway, but that is off the matter. That only convinced Sirius he had an ability beyond his magic.
When he met James, Remus and Peter, he had chances to see if his power was really that secret. First, Peter. He was afraid of getting scolded at classes for being clumsy. Then, Remus (to be honest, there was no way he could just sit and watch the boy for a whole night on a monthly basis, come back with the lamest excuses — what dying, estranged great-great uncle would require whole family gatherings every full moon for months and not just die? Not to mention the scars and bruises. The Blacks could be wicked and twisted all they wanted, but at least they had the decency of fully healing their offspring before allowing them into the public eye again). After that, there was James. Who would say that the sunshine prankster had his eclipsed evenings? Sirius. Sirius would say that. And finally, the most heartbreaking of them all: Lily. He saw the Snivellus disaster coming two days into fourth year.
Still, no one seemed to perceive Sirius the way he perceived others. That was until his 17th birthday. James, Peter and Remus decided to throw him a surprise party. A whole ass Halloween-themed party. And Peter even decided to go a few steps further to get Regulus to attend —to a genuinely unexpected success.
“I think he is hiding a third eye under all that hair”, James announced as he entered the Gryffindor Common Room with a box of records in his arms. “I could swear he looked at me as if he knew what I was thinking during breakfast.”
“I mean, Sirius is a dog and dogs can smell fear, so… you do the math”, Remus shrugged. “That probably just means you have to be more discreet.”
“Which is true, by the way”, Regulus pointed out as the set up the snack table with Emmeline.
“Oh, shut up, Arcturus.”
A few hours — and a lot of arguing — later, Remus grinned and declared:
“Showtime.”
People started to relax and mingle while he went on his quest: meet Sirius after his detention with Filch.
“What’s up with everybody?”, Sirius asked, tangling his own arm on the arm that Remus offered him (you can call them cheesy all you want, they just want to be in each other’s arms all they can).
“Nothing. Why do you ask?”
“No reason in particular. It’s just… everybody seems to be avoiding me lately and I can’t get why. And I am usually good at reading people.”
That was the only thing Remus feared in the whole process. At first, he seemed like the perfect candidate — better than Frank or Mary showing up, at least —, but it also meant the had to lie and improvise — and he was out of his cover-ups stock since the third year; all he had to offer were technical loopholes reserved for when they were caught by professors.
I can do this, he thought. It’s not that long of a walk.
“You are very special, Sirius. Did you know that?”
“Aww, thanks, babe”, Sirius got on the tip of his toes to kiss the other boy’s cheek. “As a matter of fact, yes. Mother used to say that a lot. She used less kind synonyms, though. Damaged, cursed, shame, embarrassment and disappointment, to mention some examples.”
“Well, if you take them as your standard, then something is clearly wrong with you, but if it wasn’t… would you be happy with your life?”
“Of course not. You wouldn’t be in it.”
“Sap”, Remus grinned. “But seriously, try to relax and stop thinking about what the others are thinking. You can’t do nothing about it.”
You don’t know what you are talking about, Sirius whispered underneath his breath.
“Home, sweet home”, Remus sighed after giving the password to the Fat Lady portrait.
“Surprise!”, shouted a choir composed by every Gryffindor who had ever interacted with Sirius —special guest: Regulus.
“Happy birthday, mate”, said James, with a giant smile and ready to wrap him in a hug.
While people drank, ate, chatted and danced, Sirius walked around, contemplating their effort. Pictures of and with him adorned the walls, creating a museum-worthy collection of joyful moments, unlike the thousands of portraits in the Black manor, whose sole purpose was to keep a registry of those who had started there a both miserable and opulent existence.
They were playing the songs he had heard for the first time on that very same room and that now the cherished dearly. They had gathered all the snacks he wasn’t allowed to gave growing up. They had Marlene prepare drinks just like Slughorn would do to a batch of potions —an especially colorful one. They had reunited all the people who managed to walk their way into his heart —one more than all the others, but that is a whole different story. They had even brought his baby brother, which likely called for a truce. They had assembled everything he most loved. And he hadn’t even mentioned enough how much he loved each one of them. Because he didn’t have to. They saw him. Just like he saw them.

How i perceive Lily Evans
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Basics
- Liliana Selene Evans
- Bisexual (with a preference for women)
- she/they but still identifies as a girl.
- January 31st, 1960
- irish and spanish. (I love the jewish Lily hc but idk about judaism so i won't write about it)
- Born january 30th, 1960
- Gryffindor
- has OCD (obcessive compulsive disorder)
Life, family and history:
- Working class family, her dad was a miner, mother was a housewife and costureira.
- Her family was complicated, she was very close with her dad but never with her mom, though, her mother always complained about her weight, her hair, her friendships, everything really.
- Her mother was blonde, skinny and had been a model in her youth, so she tried to traumatize Lily a lot with weight related things, but Lily never ler herself be bothered, because her dad always hyped her up.
- Her father was a sweet kind man, he was big and brute looking, but those were just looks. Lily was his little princess, she looked just like him, big and ginger, with the same emerald green eyes.
- They were thrilled to have a witch in the family and that was when the relationship with her sister started to get bad.
- Her father died when she was 15 and mother died when she was 19, a few months before she found out she was pregnant.
- Her and her sister had a fine relationship growing up, because of the 4 year difference, Petunia looked after her a lot, especially when Lily was a toddler. Lily always looked up to her big sister and while at hogwarts sent letters all the time, but as she grew up and her sister ignored her more, she stopped trying. Didn't send any more letters, didn't talk to her in the summer.
- They stoped talking to each other after their mother died.
- She did want Petunia to be Harry's godmother, but they hadn't spoken to each other in years. She also died not knowing Petunia had a son.
Hogwarts years:
- Top of the class on almost everything. Favorite classes were Charms, Divination and DADA.
- On her first month of divination classes she got there late and had to sit with James to share a tea cup. The teacher came to their desk to talk to them and noticed something curious, both of them had identical fate lines. The teacher then began to do a complete reading of their palms. The professor told her that both of them had short life lines and identical fate lines, and that they would still develop a stronger bond. That kept Lily up at night, what did it mean that her and Potter had twin fates?
- She started loving to watch quidditch, she found it so interesting and fun. Lily loved the wizarding world and everything about it, it fascinated her, specially hogwarts. She loved discovering stuff about the castle and most Sundays she took the afternoons to explore the castle, she befriended the ghosts and loved talking to them, she loved the elves and wanted to do something to help them when she graduated.
- She always knew she liked girls, her first crush was a girl, her first kiss was girl and first relationship was with a girl, and she always knew she liked boys too. The first boy she had a serious thing with was James, otherwise all the boys were random kisses at parties. Like she fell for James HEAD OVER HEELS.
- The first person she wanted to kiss, like really kiss, was Mary. Mary who always had some lip gloss on, whose hair smelled like coconut and cinnamon, whose smile bightened everyone's day. Yeah Lily wanted to kiss her, it wasnt even a crush, she didn't feel that way about her, she literally just wanted to kiss her. A LOT.
- Her first kiss ended up being Marlene and her first girlfriend was Alice mf Fortescue. (She and alice were literally perfect i have written loads about them)
- She had a duelling club where she helped and trained muggleborn students to defend themselves. In her last two years the club became more about helping everyone defend from the death eaters.
- Great amazing student, naturally smart but studied a lot because she did got introduced to magic quite late, she was a perfectionist and a bit bossy. She craved academic validation and had a thirst to prove herself, prove that yes she was muggleborn and that did not make her less, that made her stronger for having extent knowledge of both worlds.
- Her favourite subject was potions and she actually adored Prof Sulghorn and he adored her, he saw her dedication and innate talent.
How i perceive her:
Physical appearance;
- Ginger, flaming red wavy kinda curly hair. PLUS SIZED!!!!! had lots of freckles everywhere on her body, kinda tall like 1,73m
Style;
Her style was kinda hippie 60s movement but she was very punk rock and also a marxist.
She loved tattoos and she had a gold nose ring piercing.
Loved long skirts, button up shirts woth long sleeves, colorfull patterned dresses, embroided jeans, sweaters and jumpers and cardigans.
RINGS
Just a jewellery person, loved any type of jewellery (mostly earrings and rings).
Chipped black nail polish or no nail polish, kept it natural.
Random headcanons
- She had always loved astrology, muggle witchcraft, crystals, tarot cards reading and then divination, when she got to hogwarts.
- Lily loves the beach. Loves the Sea animals, to feel the sand, to swim with the fish, to taste the salty water on her face, the comforting ocean breeze, the distinct smell of the sea, loves seagulls and picking shells then giving them back to the ocean.
- She just had a lot of raw magic inside her, she was great at wandless spells and loved controlling that force inside of her with her mind. She was great with non verbal spells and the magic got very explosive and unstable when she felt any strong emotion (anger, sadness, happiness, anything)
- Lily was an artists and very good with manual labor art such as sculpting, ceramics, painting and crafting in general. She loved making earings out of clay in strange shapes.
- Lily loved music, her dad introduced her to the Beatles and it was one of her fav bands. Her favorite song was "Strawberry fields forever". She was the biggest Elton John fan and also a fan of Fleetwood Mac, ABBA, Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd.
- She adored reading and read almost every genre, her favs were mystery and romance. Huge Virginia Woolf and Brönte sisters fan, she absolutely adored Wuthering Heights and A room of one's own. She also loved reading biographies.
- When she was small she wanted to be a marine biologist (before she found out she was a witch). Then in the wizarding world, she became a soldier in the war and was one of the best duelist they had, she sometimes trained the younger recruits.
- While speaking, she had the voice of an angel but she was a TERRIBLE singer. She still sang anyway.
- Her and James started to bond after she drifted apart from Severus because of Elton John. They were both fans and bonded over it, they met on his show during the summer (James went with his parents, she went with Mary). It was a simple thing but it was the start. After they got together, "Don't Go Breaking My Heart" became their signature song on karaoke night.
Jily
So i just feel like i really wanted to put this here bc jily is awesomeeeeeee. They are NOT boring, they're angsty, they have so much to be written about, like: how Lily went from not liking him to being friends then falling in love, how James felt when she rejected him for the first time, how hurt he felt all these times when Lily said something bad about him because she was defending her friend (Snape), the betrayal Lily went trough after that OWL test, how she had to question everything she thought to be true, how she started to trust James, see his true self, see his heart and his intentions. How Lily didn't want to admit to herself that she had been in love with someone she thought to hate for years. Her denying her feelings, trying to hide them, trying to be okay with the idea of falling in love with a man she once thought to hate. Also they were very good friends in their relationship, they trusted each other blindly, talked about everything, knew all about the other but still kept their relationship fun, loving, warm and passionate. THERE IS JUST SO MUCH TO TALK ABOUT WHEN IT COMES TO THEM. I will stan jily till i die.
DO YOU KNOW HOW MUCH SHE MUST HAVE LOVED JAMES TO THE POINT WHERE SHE, A SMART, THOUGHTFUL AND INTELIGENT WOMAN DECIDED TO RAISE A CHILD WITH HIM IN THE MIDDLE OF A WAR????? THAT'S TRUE LOVE!!!
JAMES DIDNT SPEND HIS SEVEN YEARS PESTERING AND ANNOYING HER TO GO OUT WITH HIM. Yes she found him annoying for a long time, because he was over confident, couldn't seem to keep quiet, was always talking and up something, to some prank. She though he was mean and a bully for a long time. They were kind of friends the first years, but Severus was always trying to change her mind about James, he kept trying to rot her idea of him. In 5th year James did have a huge crush on her, asked her out a few times, mostly as a joke (internally hoping she would say yes), justto keep his character up. She started to get fond of him after she saw how James sided with Remus after The Prank. She had always admired him, how great of a friend he was, how strong and smart and extremely kind James always was. So they became close on 6th year, very close. He did have feelings for her but that never stopped him from going out with other people, falling for other people and that didn't make these feelings any less real. James was like that, he was always so full of love to give, it was impossible for him to not love everyone. She only started dating James close to the end of 7th year, after they had spent all of that time together on head girl and head boy duties. When she did fall though, she fell hard, no holding back, he was like a piece of her that was missing and finally got put back in it's place, their love was strong and powerful and the moment they kissed for the first time, she knew that was who she wanted to kiss till her last day.

Marlene ran onto the small stage, magicked specifically for the band, and pulled her guitar over her shoulders. She sent a smile to Peter as she leaned over to his microphone to speak to the crowd packed into their common room.
"Hello, Hogwarts! Welcome to Gryffindor's end of year party, we are The Slackers! We'll be playing a few covers mixed in with our own music, and our first song for you lot is one I've written titled 'girl kisser', but Pete here is singing it because my voice is shit! Here we go!"
She moved back to her own spot, plugging her guitar in and nodding to Xenophilius to start playing.
As her fingers plucked the strings, her eyes drifted to the crowd watching, looking for them even though they had said they wouldn't make it.
Mary caught her eye, seeing Marlene's searching expression and slowly shook her head.
So Marlene focused back on the music, her eyes back to the instrument. The beaming red lights flashed on and off repeatedly in time with the music. Peter's voice was soft and heartfelt, without really knowing who the song was about. Emmeline's drumming ran loudly behind her, and Marlene focused in keeping in time with her bandmates. Her hair fell up and down, as she moved to the music. Her red guitar shone in the light.
As the song was almost over, a shout came from the crowd. Marlene looked up in confusion, recognising the voice but not quite catching the words.
"They're here!" Mary shouted again, a large grin on her face. Lily was next to her, pointing to the doorway of the common room.
In the flashing light, Marlene caught the sight of five people standing right by the door. Two were laughing and smoking together, barely listening to the music. One had their arms folded and was glancing to the door as if begging the others to leave. One was dancing, smiling at Marlene's fellow guitarist.
And the other stared directly at her. They weren't really dressed for a party, still in their quidditch uniform seemingly coming from practice. Their locs were tied back with a bandana, and their face glittered in the light from the sweat. An almost awestruck gaze took over their face.
And Marlene almost jumped off the stage just to kiss them.
But as she realised Peter was about to sing the last line of the song, her eyes widened as she stared back down to her guitar.
"I think I'd rather kiss than fight, 'cause I stole your green sweater last night just cause it smelled like you. I think I'm sorta falling in love with you."
The song ended, the crowd clapping and cheering. Marlene could hear James and Sirius screaming from the front of the crowd as they realised who the song was about.
And Marlene braved a look towards the door, just to see they were no longer there.
Marlene squashed down the heavy feeling in her chest and looked back down to her guitar, getting ready for their runaways cover song next.
But Emmeline didn't count them in, and the crowd got louder, and everyone seemed to be staring at her. No- behind her.
Marlene turned and saw Dorcas climbing onto the stage.
They grabbed Marlene by the waist and kissed her.
"I think I'm sorta falling in love with you too... also I knew you stole my jumper, can I have it back? It's my only one."
Marlene laughed, "Why do you only have one school jumper?"
Dorcas huffed with a smile, "We can just magick them clean so I only reasonably needed one. I didn't know my girlfriend would start stealing them."
Marlene grinned, "Girlfriend?"
Dorcas rolled their eyes, "Of course! Now, go play the rest of your gig. You're hot when you play guitar."
Marlene grinned, begrudgingly letting go of Dorcas as they rejoined the crowd, and her fingers moved back to the strings of her guitar.

Snippet Sunday
“Harry survived?” She interrupted. Remus nodded solemnly. “How?”
“We don’t know.” Remus replied with a mix of sincerity and perplexity.
“But how? The last I heard they were going into hiding. Lily ha— Lily,” she balled her fists up in her lap. No, she wouldn't cry in front of her guests. Lily, her first love, possibly her forever love. So full of life. She smelled of jasmine. People who smell of jasmine can't die, could they?
“It was Peter.” Regulus snarled. Mary looked up, shocked, her hands smoothing out as if to catch the words as they fell from his lips. There was a dull ringing in her ears. Not…
“Pettigrew?” She asked for clarification, though there was hardly any need. What other Peter did they know? Still she hoped for any other surname. Deny it, please, she willed of Regulus silently. He met her eyes, cold and grey to her dark brown, and nodded. The ringing grew louder.
“Excuse me a moment.” She was impressed she got those words out. Her vision fading quickly as she stumbled back through to the kitchen. Her head was fuzzy and she gripped the kitchen sink, feeling the cold metal beneath her fingertips.
Unbidden memories floated to the surface of her mind. A pale, round-faced boy, pink cheeked and shy at the center. He crawled out from beneath the table, his trouser legs dusty and his tie askew. Mary, in her flowy dress, which she hated so, bows and frills, and her hair pulled back in braids that ended in two buns on either side of her head, bows that matched her dress adorned the puffs.
A little something I’ve been working on to bring back Snippet Sunday!! Since I promised @anouri 💜 now you have to post a snippet!!! Also tagging @remolupini @sweetpeasandlilies and @luna13e-blog

Sirius Black is a Complete Idiot (Sirius Black x Marlene McKinnon)
Pairing: Marlene McKinnon x Sirius Black
Fandom: Harry Potter (Marauders Era)
Warnings: Angst, Fluff, and some suggestive material, Panic attack
Word Count: 4825 words
Summary: The day starts off relatively normal until a party causes two people to grow close but one mistake and a horrid rumor may cause this relationship to crumble to its knees
Notes: I don't love this one but it's alr enough, been working on it for like a week soo. Hope you enjoy it! P.S. Spelling was being a twat so sorry for any mistakes.
Marlene sat on the window sill, her window was open and she breathed out a stream of smoke. As she watched it fade into the sky, she ran her fingers through her long hair. It was about mid-November, so the grounds of Hogwarts had leaves littered all over it. The smell of the approaching winter made her smile. “Marly” She turned her head to see her best friend Lily smiling at her. “Hey Lils” she smiled back, adjusting her jacket. “Whatcha up to?” Lily asked, flopping down on her bed, her red hair spreading around her. “Nothing” Marlene responded quickly and adjusted her sitting position so Lily couldn't see the cigarette in her hand. As much as the two of them had been best friends since 1st year and agreed on most things (like how absolutely frustrating a certain group of boys were) Lily was firm on how horrid smoking was. “Alright…” Lily responded not entirely convinced.
“How was your date?” Marlene eventually said Lily rolled her eyes. “Absolutely horrible” “Oooo” Marly said, putting out the cigarette and climbing over to her best friend. She laid down next to Lily and played with her hair. “Spill” Lily laughed, “well first,” she said adjusting herself so Marlene had better access to her ginger hair which she had curled for said date. “He first didn’t even save me a seat at the three broomsticks, I had to go grab one from a group of Ravenclaws” both girls grimaced. “Then he made ME pay for the meal, I mean I’m all for paying but I was under the impression that he would you know?” she looked up at her friend. Marlene nodded, “Understandable” Lily lay back down, “Once we finished eating which by the way the entire time he was chewing with his mouth open and not once used a napkin” Marlene gagged. Like most people she also tended to forget to not talk while she was eating, seeing as her mother had never been big on manners and growing up with two older brothers. But she knew to always use a napkin, always.
“Then after” Lily continued, “he saw a group of his friends and left me standing alone for like 20 minutes, and when I went to go find him he was snogging some Slytherin!” Marlene rolled her eyes. “I can hex him for you love,” she said, completely serious. Lily laughed, “Nah it’s okay but thanks Marls” Marlene nodded. They sat on Lily’s bed for a bit in comfortable silence and listened to the birds singing down on the grounds. Suddenly the door slammed open, both girls shot up, and in walked their other doormates. Mary Mcdonald and Dorcus Meadowes, “Jesus fucking Christ Mary!” Marlene growled and laid back down. “Do you always have to slam that door open?” Mary rolled her eyes at her friend’s comment; “I don’t ALWAYS slam it open!”.
 “No just the past 50 times or so” Lily laughed and high-fived Marlene. Mary ignored her, “Listen I was just informed that there is gonna be a party in the common room” She smiled proudly as Dorcus passed her and sat down on her bed crossing her legs. “So?” Marlene retorted, “sooo this is our chance to meet some cute guys!” Mary said giddily, Marlene sat up. “Mary in the nicest way possible, I have met every guy in this damn castle, and not a single one of them has enough brain cells to even know what a girl is” She got up off the bed and went to close the window. “Oh come on Marly” Mary strode over to her friend and put her hands on her shoulders, “We know that’s not true” “What’s that supposed to mean?” Marlene said facing her. Dorcus giggled and looked at the book she had grabbed, Lily sat up suddenly intrigued by the conversation. “Well let’s just say I’ve noticed how flustered you get when Sirius Black is around” she smirked.
Marlene studdered at the comment, “What?! I do not!” her face turned beet red. Lily laughed, “Sure Marls” “Oh yeah, and what about you and Potter?” that shut Lily up. “I don’t know what you’re talking about,” Lily looked away. “She’s blushing!” Dorcas said and Marlene laughed, “I rest my case” she turned back to Mary. “As for you, Mary do you want me to tell our lovely Dottie what you were muttering in your sleep last night?” Mary’s eyes went wide and she shook her head. “I didnt think so, Now if you’ll excuse me I have quidditch practice to get to.” she grabbed her broom and walked out of the dorm smiling to herself. As she walked down the stairs she ran into Professor Mcgonigal, “Professor!” she said quickly; “are you alright?” she asked quickly. “Fine Ms.Mckinnion,” she said. This was when Marlene noticed the girl standing next to her, she looked about the same age as her, her hair was cut in a bob and curled at the bottom. She held a Gryffindor robe and two bags, she wore a pine green pantsuit. “This is Ms.Brown,” the older woman said motioning to the new girl, Marlene nodded. Ms.Brown held out her hand, “Laurie” she said smiling, Marlene took her hand and shook it. Laurie’s hands were soft and her nails were painted navy blue. “She is new to Hogwarts, and is in Gryffindor house” Marlene nodded again, “well welcome,” Marlene said politely. Laurie smiled, “have you seen Ms.Evans? I would like to speak to her” Malene looked to her teacher, “She’s in our dorm ma’am” McGonigal nodded. “Thank you” She and Laurie walked past Marlene, Laurie waved goodbye as they went up the stairs. Marlene waved back, she glanced at her watch. “Shit” she swore and ran out of the common room.
Eventually, she made it down to the quidditch field where the rest of the team stood, “Look who decided to show up” Hamish said crossing his arms in annoyance. “Sorry Hamish I just lost track of time,” she said panting. He sighed, rubbing his face; “It’s fine just go get changed” She nodded and looked over to Sirius and James who were whispering about something and snickering. She ran to the locker rooms and quickly changed, when she returned back to the field the team had already started their practice. She sat on her broom and kicked off the ground launching herself into the air.
Practice went relatively well, not much happened besides James breaking his nose on a bludger and Sirius dying of laughter from the look on his friend’s face. An hour and a half passed, and Hamish blew the whistle to signal the end of practice. Marlene and the others touched back down to the ground, “Alright everyone” Hamish clapped his hands, “Good job today, I’m confident we’ll beat Hufflepuff this weekend now everyone go get some rest and I’ll see you tonight” The team walked over chattering about god knows what. Marlene trailed a bit behind wrapped up in her own thoughts. “Alright, there McKinnon?” Sirius said jogging up to her, “Right as rain” She smiled at him, and he nodded. “Sooo,” he said clapping his hands together awkwardly, “whatcha doing later?” he asked trying to be smooth. She shrugged “Mary said there’s a party later so probably going to that” he nodded. “Why?” she asked looking up at him, he shrugged and pulled his hair out of the ponytail he had put it up for practice. Not much was said between the two on their walk. When they got to the locker rooms Sirius walked to the door for the men’s changing room, Marlene quickly grabbed him by the wrist and spun him around to face her. He looked down at her, “what’s up doll?” he said, smirking at her. “Bring some fire whisky tonight okay? You know I’m more fun when I’m drunk” she winked at him letting go. He smiled with his usually cocky smile, and he bowed; “as you wish”. She laughed and walked into the girl’s locker room.
Around 7 the party was beginning, although Marlene, Mary, and Dorcas were still upstairs changing. “I don’t know how I feel about this dress Mary” Dorcas said; the dress she was referring to was a dark blue, short, and showed a lot of her chest. “Oh come on Dottie you look great!” Mary said walking over to her and adjusting the dress. She loomed over the taller girl, Dorcas blushing furiously at how close they both were. Marlene laughed at the two, “What?” Mary said, looking at her. “Nothing,” she said giggling Mary glared at her and walked away from Dorcas. Marlene brushed her hair as Lily walked into the room wearing a floral green dress, “Hi Evans!” Marlene said mocking James” Lily jumped at the name, realizing it was her friend she rolled her eyes and threw a pillow at the blonde girl, who laughed. “You scared me!” Marlene kept laughing and held onto the pillow. “Where have you been Lils?” Mary said from her bed flicking her wand to change her nail color. “Showing around the new 5th year” Lily replied sighing and falling onto her bed. “Difficult?” Dorcas asked looking in the mirror. “If what you mean by difficult is making sure she stays as far away from Potter and his gang then yes” the other three laughed at her comment.
“Anyway, Her name is Laurie, and she’s quite nice”, Lily shrugged and looked up at the ceiling, “Oh I met her!” Marlene said sitting up. “On my way to practice, she seemed pelsent enough” She shrugged and fell back onto her bed.  “How interesting,” Mary said, the tone of her voice saying otherwise; she swiped her dark lipstick across her lips and spun around. “Alright! Let’s go!” she practically skipped over to the door, Lily got up and pulled Marlene up. “Ughhh I don’t want to” Marlene wined, “Come on Marly” Lily pulled her best friend up on her feet and practically dragged her out the door. Dorcas followed behind them and shut the door to their dorm.
When the group got downstairs the party was in full swing. “See you a lot later!” Mary said excitedly and skipped off. The other three waved goodbye, “come Marly” Lily said pulling Marlene off while Dorcas walked away to go find her other friends. As the two weaved through the crowd of Gryffindors and a handful of Ravenclaws and Hufflepuffs; zero Slytherins. “Lily!” a voice called to them, she turned around. “Iris!” she said letting go of Marlene and hugging the Hufflepuff. “Oh look at you!” Lily said looking her up and down, Iris blushed. “Thanks, it’s Cissy’s!” she smiled. Marlene grimaced, “my bitchy cousin gave you that dress?” a rough voice said behind the group. Iris, Marlene, and Lily turned around to see none other than the Marauders, Remus, Peter, James, and Sirius. Lily made a face when she saw them, Marlene crossed her arms and smirked and Iris just smiled.
“Yep!” Iris said spinning around the dress, the skirt flew up a tad to reveal a bit more than necessary. Remus blushed and looked away coughing awkwardly. “Oh, that’s why it’s so ugly” Sirius laughed and took a swig of fire whisky, Iris glared at him. “Watch it Black” Marlene shot. She didn’t particularly like Iris primaraly since her friends consisted of the questionable Slytherins, and her relationship with Regulus was just weird. But she respected the girl and Sirius Black is a twat so. Sirius’ head whipped around to her, “Woahhh, come on Marlene I thought we had gotten past the whole last name thing” he said taking another sip and shoving the bottle into Remus’ hand who rolled his eyes. Marlene continued to glare at him, “And I thought you were past being an absolute idiot but clearly you haven’t” he started walking towards her. She backed up until her back pressed against the wall.
Sirius’ tall figure loomed over her, he smiled smugly down at her. She continued to glare up at him; the other 6 people looked at each other very uncomftouble. “This is quite awkward” Lily whispered, “we could always go somewhere else Evans” James winked at her. “Nope!” Lily said putting her hand up, she pulled out her wand and muttered something. Sirius moved out of the way and grabbed Marlene she pulled her away, and Iris followed. “See you later McKinnion” Sirius said laughing and taking his whisky back.
About 3 hours passed, the party was not as extreme as when it first started but it was still pretty big. Marlene and Lily danced in the middle of the room on the makeshift dancefloor that had been charmed to glow different colors. Marlene closed her eyes and spun around smiling. She was so ingroced in her movements that she didn’t feel someone coming up behind her, she moved her hips; swaying back and forth. “Nice moves,” a male voice said behind her, he sounded out of breath. Keeping her eyes closed she backed up into the person, the mixture of weed and alcohol making her not have a care in the world. He put his hands on her hips and guided her. She leaned against his chest and heard a faint noise escape his lip. He pulled her closer to her, she opened her eyes and ran her fingers through his hair.
She felt breathing on her, and softly he spoke again; “Why don’t we get out of here, Chaton?” she stopped. Only one person in the world called her that. She turned around to see that shit-eating grin of Sirius Black. She didnt know if it was because of anything that had happened but she didnt care. She grabbed him by the tie and slammed her lips onto his. He smiled and ran his fingers through her long hair, he deepened the kiss. Marlene pulled away, he made what sounded like a whimper; she smiled. “Meet me in my dorm in 10,” she said whispering in his ear. He nodded quickly and practically sprinted off. She smiled and turned to find Lily who had disappeared; she sighed. 7 minutes passed, and she went to her room and lay on her bed; waiting. She sat there for 8 minutes, sighed, and stood. She couldn’t help but feel something cold wash over her. He wasn’t going to come. And for the first time in 5 years; Marlene cried, yet again for Sirius Black.
Marlene walked into the entrance hall; she hadn’t bothered to change and her hair was put up in a messy bun. Her lipstick and eyeliner were smudged. However, before she goes into the great hall someone grabbed her by the arm and pulled her back. She expected it to be Sirius but surprisingly it was Bellatrix Black. “What do you want Bella?” she spat at the Slytherin. “You look even worse than usual” she cackled, Marlene went to walk away before she was stopped and pulled back by some unseen magical force. “As much as I hate you I think you should know that my cousin Sirius is horribly sorry about last night” She smiled, Marlene stood in confusion; “how do you-” “He was much too busy with the new girl, Laurie Brown; you know Iris’ cousin. Had a fun night in the astronomy tour last night. Or so that’s what he’s saying” she laughed again and walked off. Leaving Marlene there alone, it felt like a stab in her heart.
 Nothing mattered anymore. She had opened herself, allowed herself the hope of something ANYTHING between them and he not only didnt show up but he was off fucking some other girl. Why had no one told her?! Iris had to have known and so had the other Marauders; she knew for a fact Lily spent the night helping out Laurie get to know people when she had left for her dorm. She stared into the great hall, nothing seemed different. Everyone was laughing and chatting; her friends pretending nothing had happened. Marlene couldn’t care, she just needed to get away she walked out of the hall and out the main door. She didnt know where she was going she just needed air, her breathing getting more rapid as she began to subconsciously pick up her pace.
As she ran she heard nothing just voices in her head, saying word after word of horrid things. Images flooded her mind, she closed her eyes to try and shut everything out but she couldn’t. Suddenly she lurched forward over a root and rolled down a hill. When she finally landed a the bottom there was a shooting pain through her leg. She held back even more tears, the pain in her leg, however, was nothing compared to what was going on in her mind.
Marlene’s heart was racing, her breathing was quick and rapid and she was sweating like it was the middle of July. She held her head in her hands, she pulled at her head muttering word after word. Crying, screaming. She felt like was choking, as though the whole world’s supply of oxygen had suddenly disappeared. Marlene tried to take in deep breaths but nothing, why did this have to happen? Why now? She was a fucking idiot, she yelled at herself inside for allowing any of this to happen. She banged her head against the ground ripping at it, pulling at her hair.
She didn’t hear the rapided approaching footsteps, she felt someone grab at her. Pulling her hands away from her head, she tried to fight back but whoever it was was much too strong. When they had finally restrained her she stopped fighting. Marlene went limp, they grabbed her and pulled her in. She didnt care who it was she just cried, they stroked her hair, and she sobbed into their lap. They shushed her, trying to calm her. Eventually, her breathing evened out. They sat there, Marlene choking on the air and them holding her. She looked up to see James, he looked down at her with so much concern in his eyes. “James?” she choked out “shhhh” he held her close to him, “how did you find me?” she whispered. He continued to hold her, “I saw you running, out of the hall after Bellatrix talked to you, I saw you were upset so I followed you” She looked up at him. “Thank you” she whispered, “how did you know?” she sat in front of him. “My mum used to get them growing up, she would go into full meltdowns and would have to go to Saint Mungo’s”. “James, I’m so sorry,” she said whipping her tears, “Don’t, she okay now, but Marlene how long have you had these?” she had never seen or heard him be so concerned.
“Since my dad…” he nodded, “Listen” he lifted her head softly so they made eye contact; “you don’t need to go through this alone, and if this happens again you tell him. Marlene blinked at him, “what?” “you heard me, and I’m not taking no for an answer”. She nodded, James smiled softly. “You ready to head back? We don’t need to go back to the great hall, I can get you some breakfast.” she nodded, and he pulled her up and she flinched. He looked at her swelling foot, “where is your wand?” he asked and she shrugged. He pulled out his wand from his back pocket, “accio Marlene’s wand” they stood as there was a soft whooshing before her wand flew and landed in her hand. He smiled and said some spell she couldn’t make out and the pain from her leg numbed exponentially.
Marlene lay on the couch in the common room her foot up against the armrest. James sat on the floor chewing on some toast, Marlene laughed at a comment and ate some of her eggs still on the plate in her lap. “I think that should work, but make sure you do it right after quidditch practice” he nodded and smiled. “You’re actually pretty fun Marlene” she smiled back, “you’re just figuring that out now?” the two of them laughed the portrait door opened and three people walked in.
Remus, Peter, and Sirius. Marlene’s smile faded when they came into her view. “There you are, Potter! Bloody hell!” Sirius said, when he saw Marlene he turned red. “Marlene-” he started, she pulled herself up, almost falling in the process. James quickly ran over and helped her up, he shot Sirius a look to shut up and helped Marley upstairs. He helped lay her down she thanked him and he left.
A couple of hours later Mary, Dorcas, and Lily walked in laughing. When they saw her Lily went to talk to her and she turned over so her back faced them. “Is everything okay Marls?” Lily said walking over to her, she stopped when Marlene made a grunting noise. She couldn’t tell but Lily, Mary, and Dorcas exchanged concerned looks. “Did it not go well last night?” Lily asked sitting down on the bed. She didn’t respond, “Marls?” Lily reached out to her friend. When her finger tips grazed Marlene’s side she pulled back. “Marlene stop being a moody bitch and tell us what happened” Mary scoffed and brushed some mascara onto her eyelashes. Marlene sat up, “Sirius stood me up!” she shouted; Mary looked at her in shock. She got out of bed ignoring the throbbing in her leg, “and he went and fucked Laurie Brown! And left me up here waiting!” she hobbled over to Mary.
“Who?” Mary asked, “THE FUCKING NEW KID” Marlene yelled, “WHO BYE THE WAY” she whipped around to face Lily “IS YOUR NEW BEST FRIENDS COUSIN” they looked at her in silence and shock. Suprisiling calmly Lily started, “Marley can I talk to you outside?” she didn’t wait for her response and dragged her out. Marlene flinched from the pain she suddenly remembered. They got to an out of way era in the hall, “Marlene honey” she took her friend’s hands. “I know you’re upset, but you should’ve come talked to me before jumping to conclusions; you know I would’ve told you if I knew. But now I’m pissed as fuck at Sirius” Marlene looked down at her feet in embarrassment, mentally yelling at herself for acussing her best friend of being horrible. “And Marls?” Marlene looked up, “you are my best friend and always will be” she hugged Marly. The other girl smiled and hugged her back.
Someone whistled behind them, they let go. Sirius stood smiling smuggly at them. “How did you even get up here?” Marlene asked intertwining her finger’s with Lily. “Magic, duh” Sirius said waving his wand around non shlauntly and though it was the most obviously thing in the world. “Sirius you should leave” Marlene muttered, “why you suddenly sick of me?” he asked with some concern in his voice. “She said leave Black” Lily said snaping at him. “Oh come on Evans” Sirius started, “LEAVE” she said annoyed shooting him a very pissed look.
Getting the hint Sirius walked back downstairs, “Thanks Lil” she smiled. “But my foot is really hurting and I need to get off it” “Shit sorry Marls!” Lily helped her back into their room.
About 3 weeks passed and a lot had changed. James as well as Remus had become quiet distant with Sirius after learning what he had done. Peter had no idea what was happening (like usual); Marlene had apologized to Mary and Dorcas and they had forgave her. No one really talked to Laurie besides her cousin and anyone who wasnt involved and Marlne and Sirius hadn’t said a word. He had tried to talk to her multiple times calling her by his nickname but she ignored him.
Marly walked down a darker hallway by herself, Lily had gone to do some duieties for being head girl. And Dorcas and Mary were doing something else god knows where. She ran her fingers through her messy hair, as she went farther down the hall she noticed a figure leaning against the wall. A cigarette placed between his pointer finger and middle. She silently prayed that it was just some 7th year and not anyone she knew; partly cause she couldn’t deal with anymore ‘polite’ conversations today. As she approached she couldnt help but look at his appearance. Long brown curly hair down to his shoulders, his tie was placed loosely around his neck, black boots and a leather jacket. Great she thought, the one person she definitely didn’t want to see. She debated weather to turn around and go back from where she came or keep walking but the choice was made for her when he called her name. She stopped, in two strides he was right infront of you. “I’ve been looking for you everywhere Chaton” he said, “stop” she held up her hand. “I haven’t done anything” he said defensively putting his hands up, the cigarette still between his fingers.
 “Sirius I don’t want you to talk to me anymore” she said readjusting her books in her hands. “Why not?” he asked confused, he’d noticed she had been avoiding him for a while now but he had no idea why; and his friends were no help when he asked what the hell had happened, even Evans refused to tell Sirius anything or even acknowledge him.
“Why not? You seriously have no idea why I’m upset with you?!” ahhh so she was upset with him. He racked his brain trying to think of what he had done recently that could’ve pissed her off this much. “Is this because I didn’t pass to you at the match against Ravenclaw? Because if it is I told you I didn’t see you were open and it was pouring like hell” she groaned loudly at his stupidity. “Thats what you think this is about?” she snapped, her voice beginning to rise. Okay now he had really fucked up, Sirius stood there waiting for her to start cussing him out. “You stood me up!” she shouted. “And went and fucked some other girl!”
What the hell is she talking about? Sirius thought and then he remembered. The party after practice back in November, she had said to meet him upstairs. He slapped his palm against his face. “Fuck Marlene,” he said, “I wasn’t shagging someone else,” he said calmly. He was a dick and he knew it but he wouldn’t just go fuck some girl after he said he would sleep with someone else. Especially if that someone else had been Marlene McKinnon, which it was. “Let me explain,” he said dropping the cigarette to the floor and stomping it out. She gave him a look that said: alright you idiot continue. He sighed, “When you had asked me to meet you upstairs I had a full intention too, mind you I was already pretty drunk. So I went to my dorm and I couldn’t find you know…” he coughed awkwardly. “Anyway I had known Remus was off doing who knows what with Iris so I went to go find him, but while I was looking in the hall I got tackled by some Slytherins and got shoved in a closet. No one found me until classes had already ended.” She looked at him trying to find some sort of indicator he was lying. None. “Alright, well why didn’t you tell me?” she asked, “I tried! But you were either avoiding me or your friends were telling me to fuck off”. He looked down at her, he could tell she was beating herself up inside for the whole situation. It wasn’t all her fault, he should’ve told her before he had gone looking for Remus or had left a note or SOMETHING. “So you weren’t shagging Laurie Brown?” she whispered. “No! I don’t even know who that is!” he said defensively. “The new girl, she's apparently Iris’ cousin” “I bet she's Lovely” Sirius said rolling his eyes. Marlene laughed, “I’m sorry Sirius,” she said looking up at him. “Can you forgive me?” he nodded, “Yes, but only if you make it up to me” he smiled at her. “How would I?” she questioned before it hit her and she laughed. “Do you always think with your dick?” she asked laughing, “only when my brain has checked out” he chuckled. He held his arm out to her and she linked it with his, the two walked together. “Hey I didn’t ask, why did you think I was shagging Laurie?” he looked down at her. “Your cousin said you had,” she said calmly, “Bella?” he said disgust dripping from his voice from the mere mention of her. She nodded, “oh I’m gonna hex her for this,” he said angrily. “Only if I can too” she smiled up at him, “deal”.

Summary: Kinda the Sequel of “Prince Friedrich | Jealousy” Prince Louis Charles and Duchess Frederica of Prussia come at the end of the season to see their son and meet y/n Bridgerton, the lady who had taken the heart of the Prince, but there is more…
Pairing: Prince Friedrich x Bridgerton!reader
A/N: so I made some researches about our lovely prince Friedrich and I found out that he never become a king because he was the cousin of the actual King, and now everything makes sense to me. Also, I’ve learned that the Prince’s and Duchess’ marriage wasn’t a happy one, because they didn’t love each other :( Prince Luois Charles should be dead, he died three years after Friedrich birth, but it would be too much complicated so we are going to pretend that we sucks in history and none of us knew it, alright? ;D
warnings: my english :)
PREQUEL 1 - PREQUEL 2
Tumblr media
Here we are, the end of another scandalous London season.
Surely, it has not been boring for everyone. We had found out the diamond of the season, and found out that sometime a pearl can take the most requested heart.
The Duke and Duchess of Hastings are organizing evrything for the last ball of the season, how many scandals it will bring to us?
There are rumors about a separation between the two; was their love just a flame that with the first rain had been turned off?
Well, what we know is that the Duchess’ sister, Miss Y/n, is still enjoying her newborn love with her Charming Prince, and I am more then happy for them.
It seems that Duchess Frederica and Prince Louis Charles of Prussia are coming to visit our lovely Queen Charlotte and their son, Prince Friedrich, is this the only reason? Lady Y/n Bridgerton had been seen quite nervous in these days, fear to meet your future father and mother in law, dear?
What I know far now is that the Prince hasn’t proposed yet, and this could bring doubts in the mind of a young Lady in love. Instead of walking between the streets of the city, the Prince had invited her to see the Palace’s garden more often, but don’t be surprise if you find yourself in front of them; it must be remember that Lady Bridgerton is still one of us, she can’t stay away from her normality too much.
I ask myself what the Royal Family will think about that...will they accept her or they will take the Prince away to return in Prussia and found themself a wife for him?
When it will happen, I’ll be the first to find out. But no need to worry our future Princess, you will charm the Duchess and the Prince as you had charmed Prince Friedrich.
“‘Normality’? Now being normal it’s bad’“ you said offended looking the paper in your hands.
“I am sure she meant nothing bad, my dear.” said your mother sweetly sit in front of you. You were drinking tea at the park all together, your family and Friedrich. He insisted to spend time with them to know all your brothers and sisters, and you couldn’t be more than happy. There were times when Hyacinth and Gregory weren’t polite and quiet as all of you, but he didn’t mind instead he started to play with them or just listen what they had to say.
“There is nothing to worry about, Y/n. In this months I learned to ignore Lady Whistledown’s words if they are not nice things toward someone.” Friedrich said resting his hand on yours that was on the table. You smiled to thank him turning to focuse on the paper resting now on the table in front of you.
“Lady Whistledown had written only good things about you two, sister. I think she likes you, together.” Colin said standing behind your mother chair looking the children in the park.
“Yes, I know...” your voice was a whisper and yu weren’t sure if he had heard you, but you couldn’t move away your eyes from Lady Whistledown’s words. Will Friedrich’s parents accept me? I am not a princess, how can they like me?
Since you knew about their arrival the doubts started to hunt you day and night. The dram of thr last night kept repeting in your mind; you had arrived at the Palace to meet Friedrich, but in the Great Hall you had seen him and Cressida getting married telling the guards to take you away. You knew she would be a better princess then you; she had the behave and the submission that you had never had. You couldn’t deny thet they would be a perfect couple together, but yet he had chosen you and the fear that he might see the mistake he had done when you’ll meet his parents scared you.
The Prince saw a shadow crossing your face while everyone started talking again. You were in your own world with the eyes focused on nowhere and an empty smile on your face.
“I would like to take Miss Y/n for a walk, if you agree Miss Bridgerton.” said Friedrich kindly. Hearing your name woke you up from your trance looking him first and then your mother.
“Of course you can, Prince Friedrich. Y/n is not the one who likes stay sit for a long time.” she said happy. He had always made sure to have her approvation for everything you did together; he valued her thoughts as much as Anthony’s.
“You are right, mother. I find the walks very healthy, indeed.” you took Friedrichìs hand that was kindly offered by him to help you to stand up. Intertwining your right arm with his, you started to walk hearing the footsteps of his guards behind you. They never left him evem when you had lunch at your house, but you didn’t mind, it was for his own safety and you didn’t want anything to happen to him.
After a while, when your family was out of hearing, he took an orange lily at his right and raised it in front of your face. “A flower for your thoughs.”
Tumblr media
You took the beautiful flower in your hand with the first true smile of the day. “Thank you, my Prince. I am sorry if I’ve been revelead to not be a good company today; just...”
“Thoughs.” he finished your sentence understanding. It had already happened sometime that the two of you finished each other’s phrases; it was lovely for the other people and funny for you. “They might be about what Lady Whistledown wrote? When you call me ‘my Prince’ means that something if wrong.”
You brought the flower at your nose to smell its perfume. “Well, I like how it sounds, my Prince.” you smiled amused seeing him lowering his head and laughing. “But it’s not just that. Lady Whistledown had been in our life since months now, I’m used at her words...” you took a breath looking around. “Your father and mother are coming... They might expect that the one who took the Prince’s interest is at least a princess as well, but they are going to see that I am just...me.”
“I stop you here, dear.” he stopped in the middle of the little bridge of the park bringing you in front of him. “They don’t expect nothing if not what my letters said about you, and you know who they are going to see?” he took the flower from your hands breaking the stem and slowly putting the lily in your hair over your ear. His hands made you feel butterfly in your stomach; you didn’t know what your body desired, but you were sure that the little few times he had touched you weren’t enough. “They’ll see that the woman who took my heart is the most clever, beautiful and wonderful woman in the world. Because this, my dear Y/n...” he brought your hands to his mouth kissing them sweetly making you blush with a shy smile on your face. “is who you are.”
“I do not know what I did to deserve your heart, Friedrich, but you took mine long time ago, and I know there are no safest hands that could hold it.” you both stepped closer at the same time finding yourself with only few inches between your bodies. Your chest were almost touching, his breath a little above your lips and your hands still in his big ones. His big blue eyes didn’t leave yours, looking for few seconds your sweet smile.
“I promise you that I will take care of it as you are taking care of mine.” after a while still looking in each other’s eyes, you started to walk again laughing and joking and at the end of the day you felt more relaxed.
You slept all night, and when in the morning Mary, your waitress, came to wake you up you had almost forgotten Lady Whistledown’s words and you were ready to see Friedrich and apologies for the behave you had the day before. You were worry for nothing, even when Mary dressed you and styled your hair who you saw in the mirror was a Lady who looked like a swan in her dress.
When you entered in the living room all the eyes were on you; your brothers stood up quickly while your mother hid something behind the pillow of the couch. “Is everything alright?”
“Yes sister.” “Nothing wrong.” “You look nice in that dress.” they said almost at the same time nervously.
“You are odd.” you said shaking your head and walking toward your mother. “What is happening?”
“I have to tell you something, my dear. Sit down, here.” you sit on the couch beside your mother still confused by the reaction of everyone. “You see, we had found out a thing...you don’t have to-”
“The Duchess and the Prince are here in London!” yelled Hyacinth excited. Your breath froze, the air seemed to be stone because you coudln’t move and all your eyes could focus on was your mother in front of you who now was yelling at your little sister.
“Mama, tell me they are not the Duchess and the Prince of Prussia.” she looked at you sorry trying to find the right words to calm you. “Brothers! Tell me they are not.”
Benedict and Colin ran away from the room closing the door behind them and blocking Anthony with you. He turned around with a nervous smile on his face studying your body language. Impossible. You have grown up hiding your true feelings, with a smile on your face and ready to nod whenever you didn't share the same ideas of your interlocutor because you were a woman, and you had to appear polite not smart. But in a family like yours you couldn’t care less, indeed Anthony could see the bright light of the fear in your eyes.
“Yes, dear sister, the Duchess and Prince of Prussia are arrived tonight. Lady Whistledown talked about it in her morning paper.” he said walking toward the couch that was in front of the one you and your mother were sitting on.
“S-so they’re here.” you looked your mother terrified. “Friedrich said that they would have spent the first few days at the palace or around the city, so I don’t need to worry for now.”
The door opened and one of your manservant enterd in hurry. “Lord Bridgerton, Lady Bridgerton, Miss Bridgerton...” he bowed to all of you. “Prince Louis Charles and Duchess Frederica of Prussia have requested your presence tonight to dine with them at the Palace.” your eyes got wider froze on your seat unable to say something. “And...Duchess Frederica had requested your presence personally, Miss Bridgerton. She wish to know you better and...talk.”
His and your mother’s eyes were fixed on you while Anthony looked in your direction with the corner of his eyes trying to not laugh at your terrified face. “Tell them we will be there.”
The manservant bowed and walked away closing the door behind him. That day all the housemaids, waitress and waiters had the orders to help Anthony, Lady Violet and you in any ways possible to male sure that you would be ready for the dinner with the Royal family. No one questioned your absence around the house, they were all to busy to notice it.
You were in your room, sit on your bed looking the wall opposite of you with Mary beside the mirror waiting for your orders. Nothing was worse than think that all your time with Friedrich, all your laughs and your conversations could be swept away just with a worng word, awkward movement or with the wrog dress.
The fear of losing Friedrich was more painful than you expected. It wasn’t because he was a Prince, no you couldn’t care less about his title when there were just the two of you together. You liked his company, his humor and you had a thing for his voice; sometime happened that he told you thing in german making you loose your mind. You felt save around him, and it wasn’t because the guards always with him, but you knew that he would never let something happen to you; he would protect you with his own body if neccessary. And then, there was the physical part; you liked his eyes, his curly blonde hair, you liked his being taller and muscular than you, you liked when his big hands took yours or when he would put his hand on your wait during a dance. He made you feel strange feelings in your body, feelings you could not tell anyone about.
You..you loved him? What was love? Love was the one that shared your father and mother; love was the feeling that kept together your family; love was Simon who married your sister to not let her fall in a scandal; maybe love was Colin who would refuse to dance with any ladies to dance with Penelope... you were sure that love was the smile on your mother’s face at the wedding of Daphne and Simon.
Was love the flower in your hair? Was love the book on your bedside table that had a sweet note from Friedrich? Was love the fact that he forbide to you and your family to bow when you meet? Was love the shivers you felt on your back everytime you were extremely close to him? Or when he spoke in your ear?
You weren’t sure if what you felt was love, maybe the love arrived after the marriage, or maybe after the first child, but something strong must precede it, right? The same strong feeling you felt inside your chest all the time you thought about him. If it was love, if there were a thiny little chance that what you felt was the true love that mother used to talk about then you had to fight and keep it. No Prince, no Duchess and no Queen could take it away until you said so.
You stood up walking in front of the wardrobe opening it and then turned around to look at Mary whose eyes were already on you. “Mary, I want to look like a princess, tonight.”
“I promise you, Miss Bridgerton, you will be the most beautiful Princess that the world had ever seen.” she said smiling and starting to search the right dress among the ones that your mother made you buy from the modist.
“I’m fine with just the England and Prussia.” you smirked slyly.
Hours passed and finally you were ready to take the carriage with your brother and your mother. Benedict spoke to you before your departure, complimeting your beauty and reassuring you that everything would be fine.
He was right, you were beautiful. Your dress, long and bright blue Bridgerton had gems on the top and the bottom was simple but elegant. You didn’t want to wear to much jewerly, they weren’t your type, so instead you decide to wear a necklace choker with a small diamond in it. Your long arms were free and around your shoulder was a shawl of a colour little more lighter than your dress.
When the door of the throne room opened in fron of you the nervouness made you almost faint. Sit on the thrones were Queen Charlotte and a beautiful woman you suspected to be the Duchess; Friedrich was standing beside the Queen and his father beside his mother.
“Your Majesties: Lady Viole Bridgerton, her son Lord Anthony Bridgerton and her daughter, Miss Y/n Bridgerton.” the guard announced you. You three walked toward the throne smiling even thought you didn’t know who to look at, so you watched the Queen and the Duchess until the end and then, before bowing, you looked at your Prince who was already looking at you and both of you smiled at each other.
Staying bowed in front of the Queen felt like the day you’ve got present to her along with Daphne, but this time Prince Friedrich was there and coming to your side he offered you a hand. You took it and stood up smiling at him. Even thought you charmed him with everything you did, he didn’t want to see you bow in front of him; it seemed like everytime you did it a wall grew up between you two.
“Your Majesties, it’s a honor to all of us to meet you.” said your brother raising up beside you with your mother.
The Duchess stood up and with her husband walked toward you. You couldn’t read their expression at all. The Duchess was a beautiful woman with long blonde curly hair and the Prince was as tall as his son with white hair and a kind face.
You smiled trying to relase your nerves, they both seemed kind and Friedrich spoke about them a lot so yoi kinda knew that they weren’t difficult people, but still their looks made you feel a bit uncomfortable.
“Friedrich didn’t give justice at your beauty, sweetheart.” the Duchess said smiling allowing you to leave a breath of relief.
“You are too kind, Your Grace.” you smiled shyly. You didn't know what to say or what to do, should you say a compliment as well?
"It's a pleasure meet you, Miss Bridgerton. My son talked a lot about you, all good thing of course.” said his father smiling and kissing your hand.
“I’m flattered, Your Grace. I hope Prince Friedrich didn’t lie too much.” they laughed and invited you and your family into the dining room. You and Friedrich walked together behind your brother and his father and in front of your mothers while the Queen led you through the halls.
“Prince Friedrich?” he asked looking at you with a eyebrow raised offering his arm to walk closer.
“They are the Duchess and Prince of Prussia, I cannot call their son by his first name. It’s inappropriate!” you said amused intertwining your arms together, enjoying that little touch.
“Are you nervous?” he asked kindly giving a quick look behind; your mothers were speaking together whispering and looking at the two of you.
“Why should I? There is my brother, and there is you at my side. I have everything I need right now.” you miled seeing his face light up.
“Then I promise you I will never leave your side until you order me so.” he took your chair like a gentleman helping you to sit and then he sat beside you.
“I think you will have to keep your promise for a long time, Friedrich.” you gave him a sweet smile before looking the others at the table.
The Duchess was sit in front of you beside your mother, you were between Friedrich and your brother while the Queen and the Prince were at the two heads of the table. You offered a smile to everyone noticing that the Duchess’ smile never left her face while you spoke.
They made you questions, what you liked to do, where you met Friedrich and the Prince asked you to tell them about your travel with Colin leaving you surprise by such kindness and curiosity. Friedrich took every chance to speak with you and your mother, wanting to make both feel comfortable, but the Duchess commited herself in a lot of conversation with you.
Once the dinner was ended you hoped that you and Friedrich could have time to walk away like usual, but the Duchess surprised you again.
“Miss Bridgerton, can I have the honor to walk with you a little?” she asked making your eyes grew wider. Friedrich tried to say something but his mother sushed him. “Don’t worry Friedrich, I only want to know her without you men around. Come sweetheart, you can show me the garden.”
You gave a smile to Friedrich trying to reassure more yourself than him. You walked with the Duchess out of the dining room with two guards behind you. “Your Grace...just know that the honor is mine...” you said shyly trying to break that silent.
“Please we are alone, call me Frederica now. My husband is the one who follows the rules.” she took your arm kindly, but you could feel that it was different from when was Friedrich the one who took it.
“I am not sure if I can do it, Duchess.” your sincerity made her laugh.
“Friedrich told me that. You are really a sweetheart, aren’t you?”
“I hope so, You Gra-F...Frederica.” you got out into the garden. The moon was full illuminating all the flowers and the fountains.
“You learn fast! Come, sit down with me. Here, good.” you sat confused starting to wonder the real reason of that walk. “Now, I wished to speak with you alone for a long time.” you nodded to let her keep going. “My son is a charming man, and many women fell for him even before knowing his title. Hi’s handsome, I’m aware of that, but still his heart is kind and big and it’s my duty as a mother to make sure that it will not break for the wrong person. So, I can trust you and leaving his heart in your hands?”
“Of course you can, Your Grace. I have no desire to make Friedrich unhappy or even break his heart. I would never, never do such thing. ” your heart was beating faster and faster afraid that one wrong word and the Duchess would walk away forbidding you to see her son again.
“Good! You can come back to my son then, I’m sure he is worried for you. I’ll stay here to enjoy this beautiful night.” she said relaxed looking the sky. You watched her astonished...did she really believed you? Didn’t she need a speech or a proof?
She seemed so in peace with herself, like that was the happiest moment in her life. You could run away, you could return to your Prince and spend time with him. It was what your body wanted, indeed your legs made you stooding up and walking away. Few steps and your consciouness made you stop, you couldn’t leave her there with just those words.
“Your Grace...” she looked at you like she was already expecting it. “My father died when I was little...I don’t have many memories with him, he was a busy man, but I knew he loved all of us.” she smiled sweetly taking your hand to make you sit again. “I grew up with the stories of my mother about how much they loved each other. It was my favorite tale when I was little and my biggest dream now...you see, I don’t know what is love, I don’t know how to recognise it, but I promised to myself that I would have married for love, the same love that my father felt for my mother and vice versa, the same love that keep my mother waking up every morning alone in the same bed she once shared with the love of her life.” the Queen had tears in her eyes with a hand in front of her mouth. “In your son I found a friend, I found someone with who I can share interests and hobbies. He makes me feel above the moon, and I hope I do the same at him...I don’t know if this is love, but I assure you that nothing will change my feelings for him and could God never forgive me if I will break his heart.”
She hugged you, strongly and warm as your mother was used to do. It didn’t feel strange that the Duchess of Prussia was hugging you, it felt like a second mother. “My marriage was not for love, but I made sure that Friedrich knew the meaning of it. My biggest desire is that a day he would have what I didn’t, and I think I can trust you, dear Y/n.” she smiled wiping away the few tears she had on her cheeks. “Go, we have made my son waiting enough.” you returned inside laughing with the Duchess leaving all of the people inside the living room speechless. “Oh, hi honey. I’m sorry if we did late, you two will make up for the lost time in these days. Now it’s late, should we going to sleep?”
“I agree, Your Grace. Come Y/n, it’s quite a long journey.” said your mother standing up from the couch looking for Anthony who was speaking with the Prince.
“At this time the street are dangerous, Lady Bridgerton. Are you sure you don’t need some guard with you?” asked Queen Charlotte concerned.
“Thank you, Your Highness, but I have to refuse your offer.” Anthony said bowing and taking his hat.
“Such nosense! The Palace has hundreds rooms at least, you could stay here for the night.” Prince Louis suggested looking Anthony for his approval.
“It’s too much, Price Louis. We don’t want to disturb Your Highness even more.” he said polite looking the Queen.
You and Friedrich shared a confused look, what if you would spend the night there? You could see him in the morning and maybe he would walk you at home to stay together longer.
“In some way or another Lady Bridgerton we are destined to be family...” the Queen said looking at you and Friedrich quickly making you both blush. “So I don’t see any problem to let you sleep here for a night. Prince Friedrich wuold never forgive me if something happens to you.”
With astonishment in the face of all of you Bridgerton, the waitress showed you the rooms where you would stay. All the three of you got separeted at some point and you had no idea where were the rooms of your brother and your mother; you didn’t even know where you were.
Your room was huge, full of paintings and books. There was a canopy bed in front of you, the blankets were white, pure as a flower that must be took yet; just like you.
You let your hair free from all the haripins, the long waves caressed your back while you let the dress fell down. You took the corset away, breathing again like you had been drowing; you would sleep in your petticoat that was of the colour of your dress.
Once the curtains were closed, you were ready to go to sleep when you heard someone knocking at your door. Sure that it was your brother or your mother you went to open it before gasping in surprise. Friedrich was in front of you, not in his usual uniform, but with a simple beige shirt and black pants.
“Y-your Gr...I mean Friedrich. I didn’t expect you to come here.” you were afraid; afraid of how easyly seemed in that moment to fall and commit a sin without being seen, and you couldn’t let it happen.
“I know, I am sorry to disturb you. I wanted to make sure if you were ok...I don’t know what you and my mother talked about...” he said smiling. You let out a breath; of course he wasn’t there to tempt you, his intentions were true and it wasn’t his fault if you felt such strange feelings inside you. He wasn’t aware of the battle your body was having with your mind.
“You are so kind, Friedrich. I am more than fine, your mother is really the sweetest person I’ve ever met.” you offered him a smile. “I thank you for your though, but it would be not appropriate if some one see us here alone...”
“I-I know and it was not my intention to insult you in any way coming here. It felt strange being in the same place but not being together...I missed you, Y/n.” you felt your heart melt at his words making you close the door behind you so that you were in the desert hall together.
You took his hand bringing it to your cheek. You close your eyes for few moments enjoying his warm against your skin. “I missed you too, Friedrich, but I had to assure your mother with some business.”
You smiled to each other while he came closer to you with a step. You had never imagined that being at the same distance as when you dance would be different if you two were alone. There was no reason to stop, there was no reason to compose yourself if no one would be able to see you, and you were scared that there was nothing to hold your body to take what it craved so much.
He kissed your hair letting your forehead restin on each other. You noticed that his breath had got heavier just as yours and you had to close your eyes to focus on the situation and not on his lips so close to yours.
He cleared his throat caressing your cheek with his thumb. “A proper gentleman would leave, wishing you a good night and telling you he would wait the morning to come so he could see you again.”
“And a true Lady would thank you for your words and praying to the morning to come faster so that the hours spent alone wouldn’t be too much.” you whispered taking big breath. You felt something tickling inside your stomach, your legs shaking and shivers were emanated from his other hand that now was gently rested on your hip.
“Can...can you hear someone approacing? Listen carefully.” both of you staied silent trying to control your breaths so that you could hear better.
No noise arrived at your ears, only the whisper of the night that brought sinful suggest. You shaked your head slowly, not wanting to break the silent that was hugging you, hiding your bodies from the people out there.
He opened his mouths few times, trying to say something but the words died in his throat. He was distracted by so many things...your skin under his hand, the blush on your cheeks... he was drunk of your parfume and your breath on his lips was like a magnet to him; a magnet too strong for his own soul.
He brought his lips on yours, slowly and kindly, leading you on the street of the pleasure. Your body was completely under his control; your hands went to caress his hair while his hand that was on your cheek lowered slowly on your neck. His thumb kept moving on your skin while the hand went on the back of your neck, knowing that you would not be the first to break the kiss, but keeping your body hypnotized by his touch.
He kept his movement slow even when the kiss got deeper. You were sure he knew what he was doing, because when you felt your legs shaking even more he made your back rest on the door closed behind you.
Your body knew what to do, your lips moved with his like it was something you had done every day, and oh god you wished you could. Now that you had tasted him, now that you were feeling his lips on yours and his hands touching your body like he never did, you wanted more. You were sure that you couldn’t have enough of him from that day on, because once you know the sweet taste of a sin, you can’t stop.

Request: Hi! Could I request a Soulmate AU with Sirius please? Marauders era with matching tattoos. No rush and thank you 🌹🖤 — @fific7
Summary: Mary is determined to find your soulmate and not even an oncoming storm will stop her. (Soulmate AU)
Warnings: some tattoo talk?, rain, thunder, I guess hints/implied bullying, Peter makes an appearance but like he’s not a key part and he’s not like bad or anything
Word Count: 2.3k
A.N: This is the kind of star I’m envisioning for your soulmark (just not yellow) I actually never specify the color, so you can imagine any color you want. This took me like a week to write for some reason. But I like how it turned out. Hopefully you guys do too! Love you all ❤️
****
No one ever told you that soulmarks tingled.
When the eight pointed star seared itself into the flesh of the inside of your left elbow at age sixteen, you thought that was it. You thought that it would just sit there innocently to the point where it wouldn’t cross your mind every second of every day, but Merlin were you wrong.
The prickling of the mark was constant, like pins and needles jabbing relentlessly into your arm. It wasn’t exactly painful, it was just an obnoxious and infuriating reminder that you still haven’t found your soulmate.
Hogwarts was practically the place for the vast majority of witches and wizards to find their soulmate, as it was basically the only topic discussed amongst the sixth and seventh years.
Honestly, you just wanted your mark to stop its incessant tingling to the point where you wouldn’t mind anyone being your soulmate. You’ve never heard any complaints from your friends who had already found their true loves, so you assume that the sensation stops eventually.
But you were tired of scratching at your arm making it look like you had some weird sort of flesh eating disease. It was unflattering and highly inconvenient.
Sure, you could run around like a headless hippogriff with your sleeve rolled up asking everyone you encounter if they’ve seen another person with that identical mark, but that’s not romantic. And you wanted romantic, Merlin damn it.
Plus, imagine the burn of embarrassment that would overtake your entire being if no one shared your soulmark. You shudder at the mere thought.
So, you learn to live with it.
You almost want to rip your arm off when it gets particularly bad while studying or trying to get the perfect measurement for your potion, but after a full year you’re almost used to it.
You’re used to how often your friends would gush about their own soulmates and their constant questions about why you’re still single as well.
Mary MacDonald, one of your best friends, had already found her soulmate, some boy from Beauxbatons that sent her too many Howlers during breakfast, but they loved each other, so who were you to complain?
But ever since she found hers, she’s been pretty determined to seek out yours. Even getting her boyfriend to ask around his own school. You can never show your face around Beauxbatons and that’s final.
She’ll make you sit around the courtyard, pretending to read a book, while she scans the arms of the many crowds in search of your star. Mary tries to walk in on top secret Quidditch practices to get a glimpse of any rolled up sleeves, but so far, no good.
That’s really the only reason she’s dragging you down to the Black Lake even though dark grey clouds are hanging heavy in the sky.
“Mary!” You huff as she drags you down the grassy hills, the smell of rain thick in the air. “I know what you’re doing, I’m not daft, y’know.”
Her hand tightens around yours as she starts to feel you resist.
“What I’m doing? (Y/n), it’s a nice day to just hang out at the lake!” Mary cries, the lie hidden well if she wasn’t your best friend.
“Mary it’s about to torrential downpour.” You scoff.
“I thought you liked the rain.” She shrugs innocently, the sound of weeds getting crushed beneath your school shoes loud in your ears.
“Mary, my soulmate might not even be at Hogwarts!” You exclaim, trying to get out of this whole situation. You could be curled up by the fire with a sugar quill, but no, why would Mary let you have some peace and quiet? “They might be older or younger than me—“
“Well we won’t know that, will we, until we check everyone in our year first.” She insists.
The deep murky water is in sight, a few people are lazily lounging around the water’s edge. Like they haven’t even noticed the rain clouds overhead.
“You’re obsessed.” You sigh, finally stopping your attempts to wriggle away from her.
“It’s because I love you.” She smiles sweetly at you, cheeks pushed high, obscuring her dark eyes.
You continue to rub the inside of your arm against the side of your abdomen, attempting to find some sort of relief. The scratchy fabric of your white button down against your grey vest is probably the most effective. The closer to the bank you get, the better you’re able to make out the figures.
The owner of the vibrant red hair was obviously Lily, one of Mary’s friends, and also the more sensible of the group considering her coat was tightly wrapped around her. She’s in a somewhat similar situation as you—she hasn’t shown her soulmark to anyone. However, if what Mary drunkenly told you one night is true, it matches James Potter’s to a tee. Poor her.
Peter was also there, kicking rocks around and chuckling at whatever story Lily was telling them. His Gryffindor jumper is a little short on him while his slacks are a little long, mud dirtying the hem of them. As far as you know, he doesn’t even have a soulmark. It’s not uncommon or something to be ashamed of, but ever since certain people found out, it’s been quite the issue. Sure the infamous Marauders took care of the situation the best they could, but the damage was already done.
The last person was obviously Sirius, you could tell by the way he has his wand situated in his bun. He was closer to the water, picking up flat stones to skip across. His bark like laugh echoing across the space. You and Mary weren’t too far from the group now, so you could tell that the top two buttons of his dress shirt were popped open. Sirius Black’s soulmark was another mystery. He seems like the type to brag about something as important as a soulmark, but as far as you know, only James, Remus, and Peter were privy to that sort of information.
“Hey guys!” Lily perks up, waving at the two of you.
You smile and wave at her, but as Mary stops and chat, you gravitate closer to Peter and Sirius.
“So where are the other two?” You ask, watching as his stone skips across the water, finally ending with a satisfying plunk!
Sirius turns to face you, a few loose strands framing his face, blowing slightly in the wind.
“Detention.” He remarks casually, lazily trying to tame his curls.
“And you two aren’t?”
Peter shakes his head enthusiastically, blond hair bobbing around. “Sirius and I managed to escape before Slughorn lost it.”
“Hey Pete!” You hear Mary call from behind you. “Don’t you wanna know what you missed in Muggle Studies?”
“Shit, yeah.” Peter bounds over to where Lily and Mary are sitting, leaving you and Sirius alone. Your feet shuffle at the predicament.
You slowly inch closer to Sirius, the large distance awkward without a third person. You’re forced to hold down a wince as your mark prickles almost painfully.
Sirius’ eyes are almost the same shade as the clouds in the sky as they pierce into yours.
“You know how to skip rocks?” He tosses you a smooth stone which you catch effortlessly.
You open your mouth to respond but before you’re able to, you’re cut off by a clap of thunder. The ripples of thunder makes you jump slightly.
“We should probably go inside—“ You start, shivering at the cold wind that begins to roll past you.
“Scared of a little thunder, (Y/n)?” Sirius teases, smirking at your shivering form.
“Don’t be a prick.” You snort. “Just throw your rock.”
You push the thought of the oncoming storm to the back of your mind as you position yourself on the bank.
The water laps at you shoes as you toe the edge, running your thumb over the smooth surface. You mirror Sirius’ position, slightly crouched at the knee, body angled towards the lake.
“One...two...three!”
You watch his body move fluidly through the positions, the stone releasing and skipping across the water delicately. Not only do you get distracted by Sirius, but the mark on your arm gives a sudden jolt, making your posture falter and your stone crash recklessly into the lake.
Sirius brings a ringed fist up to his mouth, trying and failing to stifle a laugh.
“It’s not that funny.” You grumble, embarrassed.
“I mean, it’s pretty fucking hilarious. I thought you said you knew how to skip rocks?” He crosses his arms over his chest, eyebrows raised, a chuckle still lightly escaping his amused smile.
“Technically, I didn’t tell you shit.” You remark. “The thunder cut me off.”
“Ah yes. The spooky thunder.” He drawls, wagging his painted fingers at you mockingly.
You bring your hand up to flick him off when you feel a cool dot of water drop onto your hand.
“Hey, did you just feel a—“
In the middle of talking, one raindrop becomes hundreds, the torrential downpour almost instantly soaking you to your bones. You hair plasters to your skin, clothes clinging onto you.
“—raindrop?” You utter weekly, a chill coming over you.
Your eyes widen as you look at Sirius, how his dark hair sticks wildly to his face, like curtains across his eyes.
Lily and Mary let out identical high pitched shrieks, and you hear the sound of mud squelching as the three run back towards the castle.
As Sirius tries to wipe the wet hair from his face, you grab onto his wrist, pulling him as your sprint back to the castle. You’re fumbling as you try not to slip in the mud but at the same time try get to the cover of the castle quickly.
“A little thunder, my arse, Sirius!” You huff out, his wrist still grasped tightly in your hand.
You hear him chuckle behind you, easily keeping up with your pace.
Cold water traces down your back and fills your shoes, your discomfort rapidly increasing with every step and every second you spend outdoors.
Your mind drifts off to Sirius, who was only in his white uniform button down. He must be freezing.
After sloshing through puddles and mucking up your shoes, you manage to get under the cover of the stone castle.
Your teeth are chattering and you body trembles, but at least the rain isn’t cutting into your skin anymore.
Lily, Mary, and Peter are nowhere to be found, though they’re probably making their way to the Gryffindor common room already.
Sirius is wringing out his drenched dark curls, his wand between his lips, but you’re too focused in the face that his shirt is now completely see through. Your eyes wander as you ogle his fit body, shamelessly trailing everywhere. You bite your bottom lip at your confidence.
However, something catches your eye as you admire his arms. A black splotch. Like a tattoo in the inside of his elbow. You somehow go colder than you already were.
“Admiring my beauty—Hey!”
You step forward and latch onto his arm, trying to get a better look at the spot on his arm. Initially, he struggles, but you jab your finger into his skin, your own mark tingling beneath your wet clothes.
“What’s your problem, (Y/n)?” He angrily grunts.
“What’s this, Sirius?” You demand, looking at him.
“Why?” Sirius rips his arm out of your grasp, trying his best to hide the mark from you.
“Because,” You explain, rolling up your own sleeve to expose the eight pointed star on your arm. “We might have something in common.”
Your entire body erupts into shivers both from the cold wind against your soaked skin and the way your soulmark buzzing.
The star stands out against your skin and you watch Sirius’ eyes widen, his jaw going slightly slack.
“Sirius.” You whisper. “I need to know if you’re my soulmate.”
The rain pounds against the castle, wind whistles, and thunder claps, and yet you don’t jump. You’re too focused on Sirius’ expression.
Silently, he brings his index finger to your mark and lightly traces the shape with his fingertip. His finger is cold, but you barely realize it because of the shock that runs through your body, originating from his touch. Goosebumps run wildly across your flesh.
He swallows harshly before pulling away and recklessly pushes his sleeve up the length of his arm. Your heart beats wildly in your chest in anticipation.
Sirius shoves his arm in front of you and you bring your gaze to focus on the inside of his elbow.
And there it is.
His soulmark.
Your soulmark.
The lines are clean and the points are sharp, the star is clear against his skin.
“Oh.”
“You’re my soulmate.” Sirius mutters. “Oh thank Merlin!” He’s laughing, a smile growing across his face.
His laughter is infectious and you find yourself joining him, practically jumping with glee.
Sirius latches onto you, pulling your wet bodies close. He brings his lips to your forehead, warmth spreading from the contact.
“We should celebrate.” Sirius remarks, pulling away just enough to see your entire form.
“Hold on.” You chuckle. “I think you’re forgetting to do something.”
His grey eyes flick down to your lips. “How could I ever forget the best part?” He smirks.
You lips are slow to connect, relishing in the sounds of the rain and how his his hands wrap around your elbows, thumb pressed into your mark.
When they finally join together, you feel whole. Like two puzzle pieces linked together. Eyes flutter shut as emotion run rampant through your body. Your mark tingles before fizzling out when you and Sirius disconnect.
You’re breathless as you cling onto him, as he clings onto you.
“We’ve got a party to throw,” Sirius grabs your hand. “soulmate.”
A stupid grin makes its way across your face.
“Lead the way, soulmate.”

****************
The castle is peaceful as it nears midnight, a calm surrender to the usual bustling halls during the day. Rounds ended over an hour ago, but the quick pair of footsteps was not rushing through a late shift, they were on their way to the Astronomy Tower to meet their partner and begin Professor Sinistra’s constellation project.
Allocation of the work was all in the luck of the draw. Where one half of the class drew a name, and the other pulled the astronomical phenomenon they were to study. Lily Evans had pulled the piece of parchment on stars and constellations, and according to the project’s outline, she and her partner would be tracking Orion, Cassiopeia, Gemini, and Canis Major for the next two weeks.
The project left Lily questioning why she chose to pursue the subject after passing her O.W.L.s. Maybe it was because she has always been fascinated by the subject, or maybe it’s for the sole fact that Astronomy is one of the subjects she can discuss with her family since it relates closely to muggle sciences. Regardless, she’s not sure it’s worth the lack of sleep she’s about to endure over the next few weeks.
As Lily climbs the steps of the Astronomy Tower, her heart thunders in her chest with anticipation about who her partner will be. The class is small, with only ten students, but she didn’t bother to hang around and discuss ‘who had who’ at the end of class. She had a meeting with Professor McGonagall about her Head Girl duties and couldn’t be bothered to worry about who her partner was.
But now, after finding out through Mary that she’s been paired with Remus and Sirius pulled Benjy Fenwick’s name, Lily is nervous. Rumblings at dinner also confirmed that Calliope Forsythe of Hufflepuff was disappointed that she chose Bridgette Marls’s name instead of James’s, leaving Lily sweating the remaining possible outcomes. She doesn’t want to jinx it by getting her hopes up that James may have pulled her name out of the cauldron, and she’s mad at herself for wanting it so desperately.
We already spend enough time together with our Head duties. Plus, we’re friends now, so we can hang out whenever we like...just not alone.
Her last thought is only a partial lie, considering they’re ‘alone’ when creating schedules for rounds, but it never fails that some fifth or sixth-year students are always barging in to use the Prefect’s lounge to study, ruining any potential chance for either to make a move. Even when they’re on rounds, their conversation is constantly interrupted by catching a couple in a broom closet or empty classroom.
Lily lets out a huff of frustration as she recalls the last time, when she was sure he was about to ask her to Hogsmeade, but then there was a loud clatter from a room up ahead, breaking the moment. So really, it’d be ideal if James were her partner for this project. She’s sick of the song and dance they’ve been playing since the start of term and wants nothing more than to find out whether he still fancies her or not. After all, it’s only a matter of time that some other girl will swoop in, causing his devilishly handsome smile to be trained on them instead.
As Lily approaches the foot of the stairs leading up to the observation room, she checks her watch. 11:59. Right on time. She holds her breath during the entire stair climb, and only when she rounds the corner to the dimly lit area with one singular candle on the table to take notes, does she see him. He’s leaning over the table, the light illuminating his messy black hair as his glasses slip down his nose. The sleeves on the white shirt of his uniform are rolled up to his elbows, exposing the sinewy muscles of his forearm as Lily stands there, getting lost in a daydream that finds those arms wrapped around her body.
The hoot of an owl in the distance snaps her out of her thoughts as she takes a few steps closer.
“I hope you haven’t started without me.”
Lily’s light chiding gets James’s attention as a wide smirk dons his face. Her insides tremble as her heart pounds faster in her chest.
“How can I get started if I don’t know what we’re supposed to be looking at,” he remarks, eliciting a nervous laugh from her chest.
“Yeah, sorry for not sticking around after class. I had another appointment.”
“Well, I hope my reveal isn’t too much of a shock.”
“Better you than Mulciber or Avery,” she teases. “Why didn’t you ask Professor Sinistra what topic I pulled after you gave your information and got our timetable?”
James walks around the table to join her as she pulls out the project guidelines. She assumes he would have known what they were studying, considering everyone had to check-in and get their schedules from Professor Sinistra. Depending on what the group has chosen, their research times varied.
“Because I thought we were going for the surprise factor,” his cheeky grin matches the lightness in his voice. “Besides, I figured it’d be another excuse to pore over the parchment in close proximity.”
Lily searches the space next to her to see just how close James is before meeting his gaze. She becomes dizzy from the scent of his cologne, with hints of cinnamon and sandalwood invading her sense of smell. If she gives in to temptation now, they won’t accomplish anything on their first night.
Work first, play later.
Strengthening her resolve, Lily makes a swift turn and heads for the telescope. “We’re responsible for tracking the four constellations that are listed on the first page. I’ll see which one I can find first and we’ll go from there. We can take turns tracing, and observing if that’s alright with you.”
“Sure, I’ll get the parchment set up,” James agrees.
Lily’s not sure, but she thinks she may have heard a hint of disappointment in his tone. She pushes the thoughts aside and peers into the massive telescope that’s bolted down in the center of the room. It doesn’t take long to find Jupiter, and from there, she’s able to see a handful of the stars that make up Orion. The belt is the most prevalent as she takes mental notes to transfer on the paper.
Settling into a steady hum of working together, the pair take turns between the telescope and table, making light work of the night’s observations. When Lily checks her watch again, she realizes they’ve finished with time to spare. She wanders over to the railing, and even though she’s spent the better part of the last ninety minutes studying the stars, she finds herself looking up to the sky once more. Only this time, she’s stargazing with only the naked eye.
She feels James approaching before he arrives at her side, gazing up at the twinkling stars among the backdrop of black and midnight blue.
“We make a pretty good team.” Her voice is soft as it carries through the air between them.
Lily’s exhaustion is prevalent as her eyelids become heavier, but she can’t be bothered to move away from James’s side. Not yet, anyways.
“You haven’t gathered that from our flawless round schedules and seamless Prefect meetings we’ve run so far as Heads?”
Lily can’t help the smile that creeps across her lips. He’s playing into her words in the exact way she was hoping for. “Of course, I’ve noticed. I was just thinking out loud…” she trails off, hoping she’s got him hooked and wanting to know what else she’s about to say.
“About what?” Barely a second passes before the question leaves his mouth.
She drags her teeth over her bottom lip as she looks up at him. Here goes nothing.
“Just about how our teamwork might work in other respects, too.”
His lips part as she hears a sharp intake of breath. “Evans,” he warns as he inches ever closer to her face.
“Potter,” she challenges right back.
They are mere centimeters away from each other now, and it’d be so easy to close the gap between them. James seems to have frozen in front of her as she finds herself leaning up on her tiptoes to press a feather-light kiss to his lips. She pulls away, not wanting to push her luck.
When he doesn’t move after she pulls away, her heart sinks. Lily grabs her bag and turns to head back to the common room. Clearly, I was mistaken.
“Sorry, I just thought—” but she never finished her apology.
Her foot grazes the top step of the staircase before a warm, strong hand wraps around her wrist and pulls her back, where she hits a wall of muscle. Her lips are on his again, and this time he’s kissing her back as her arms snake around his shoulders and her foot lifts off the ground of its own accord.
James Potter is kissing me!
The moment only lasts a few moments before they pull apart, their breathing heavy under the starry night.
James breaks the silence after a minute. “So, er, Hogsmeade this weekend?”
Lily grins as she backs away slightly, leaving him standing there as she heads toward the stairs for the second time. She flashes a ‘come and get me’ look.
“I thought you’d never ask.”

“Hmmm… All right, would you rather, mmm… Smell Borris Johnson’s sweaty gym socks, or snog Professor Slughorn full on the mouth for a straight minute— oh erm, not so straight I reckon on second thought.”
Remus wrinkles his nose at him from across the bed, and clucks his tongue at the awful pun. “You’re unruly.”
“And you’re dodging,”
“Am not arse, I’m just recovering from that very terrifying scenario you’ve spewed out like the sadistic satanist you are.”
“Which scenario are you recovering from though?” Sirius leers, wiggling his eyebrows and jostling Remus’s textbook with his foot.
“I hate that you’re enjoying this so much,” Remus intones in a deadpan.
“Mary John, I’m waiting,” Sirius says with far too much glee.
Sometimes Remus is sure that he hates him. “Fine, the answer is I hate you.”
“Filthy and slanderous lies, Lupin.”
“You’re demented.”
“Five. Four. Three—“
“I won’t choose.”
“See,  all I hear is that you wanna get it on with our chemistry professor, you saucy minx, you.”
Remus sniffs. “Better than touching that prick with even a ten foot pole.”
“Mmmm, have I ever told you how hot and heavy I get hearing you talk politics at me?”
Remus throws him the bird, which makes Sirius laugh. Remus can objectively say that Sirius has the most beautiful variations of laughter in the world, and he’d know considering he’s catalogued each one. This version is definitely top three. His care free, effortless laugh when Remus takes him off guard with a snide remark or lowly muttered retort that’s not appropriate for most company— It’s really more of a experience, truly. His breaths stutter out in a lovely staccato, and his eyes glimmer like the sea, and sometimes it feels like the world’s been suspended and it’s only the two of them in that slice of eternity.
Erm, Ah, but yeah…. That only happens occasionally, and it’s only because Sirius is Remus’s greatest friend— has been since the final year of primary school after Remus had moved to the London outskirts from his small, coastal town in Wales, and on first sight, Sirius swung a snowball straight to Remus’s face, which he of course responded to by throwing two more his way, and well… The pair of them were soaking and breathless by the end of it, but their fate was sealed, they were the greatest of friends, and nothing would ever alter that unquestionable staple.
So what if sometimes Remus’s chest thuds painfully when Sirius dimples his way, or Remus only ever wants to talk to him over anyone else— even Lily or his Mam— if he’s had a bad day, or good one, or if something remarkable had happened, or , or… Or whenever really. And there’s absolutely no significance that Remus can’t help the totally delighted grin that splits his face in half whenever he gets a text or snap from Sirius.
None of that is at all relevant.
Sirius is Remus’s greatest friend, and he’d never risk ruining that by allowing some pesky little crush swallow him whole and clammer out his mouth— vulnerable and throbbing in the open space between them. It doesn’t matter if Marlene always makes kissy faces their way, or how James only ever refers to them as a couple, and so what if Peter’s got a pole running that Remus knows basically the whole school is betting on.
They’re all wrong, Sirius would never, ever feel the same sort of way that Remus does him, that’s downright preposterous and ridiculous and just simply impossible. And Remus’s perfectly content with that very real truth… He is.
Remus is fine with it God help him. So everyone else just needs to but the fuck out of their business.
Besides, this, this right now— Him and Sirius splayed out on opposite ends of Remus’s bed, with Sirius’s feet nudging at Remus’s elbow whenever he’s got a question about there homework, with the window cracked open just so, letting in some of the chilly winter air because Sirius absolutely can not focus if he’s not cold— the fucking furnace— Where Remus can still hear the going ons of his family playing out on the floor below them… This is the most perfect place in Remus’s eyes, and he won’t ever change that, especially not to live out some boyhood fantasy that would never come into fruition in his wildest of dreams.
Remus’s content… He is… He has to be or else he’d lose one of the most vital people in his world.
.-
“You’ve got footie practice after school, right?”
“Mmhmm, you coming to watch?”
“Only if you admit i’m your good luck charm,” Remus sardonically bats his lashes at Sirius as if he was in a mascara advert, and the taller boy  blows a raspberry right back at him.
“Nice, real nice. You’re extraordinarily mature, you know that, Black?”
“And sexy, don’t forget that, oh so important descriptor Lupin.”
Remus leans against the locker besides Sirius’s, watches as he trades his current binders for the lot he’ll need for the afternoon, and tries really hard not to stare too longingly at how Sirius’s arm muscles ripple beneath their school’s  maroon, uniform jackets  in the most delicious of ways. (He hates the fact he’s been dissolved into a starry eyed mess lusting over the star striker, but thus is his fate.)
“I’d never commit such a faux pas, and I’m insulted that you’d ever think as much.”
Sirius sneers at him with a slight shake to his head. “So you coming or not?”
“I’m still contemplating my options,” he preens, but before Sirius could retort, Marlene, megawatt smile and dangerously sharp  smirk— swaggers over towards them.
“Good morning my two beautiful chums!”
“What do you want?” Sirius asks before even glancing her way, to which Marlene blinks up at him, faux owlish. “S, I just wanted to greet a couple of my closest companions this lovely December morning,” she defends herself.
“Marls, you’re never this agreeable before noon,” Remus points out hesitantly.
“ And you rarely are even afterwards,” Sirius tacks on.
“Rude,” she pouts.
“Accurate,” Remus pipes in with an apologetic grimace.
Marlene stares them both down for a solid minute before finally relaxing her shoulders, and thrusting out the legal pad in her grasp. “The student council and spirit society are selling corsages for the snowflake formal, and Dorcas has deployed me to get some orders.”
“Whipped,” Sirius teases through a counter-fit cough.
Marlene doesn’t hesitate before smashing the legal pad on his head. “And you traipsing around getting people to buy the tickets for the theatre department last semester even though Re was only playing Mercutio wasn’t you being wrapped around his littlest finger?”
Remus flushes, feeling an unnerving amount of bees stinging around his stomach, and is thankful when the conversation pauses after Sirius casts her a very heated V.  “Sod off.”
“So are you guys gonna buy or not?” Marlene huffs, weight slung to her left hip, and arms crossed against her chest.
“I’m a gay bloke, Marls, did you forget that?” Remus pins her with a one eyed squint, and she just scrunches her face up at him, exasperated.
“I’m sure there’s matching boutonnieres.”
“Fine, I just don’t have any school spirit  then.”
This time she glares. “Lily and James are Head Boy and Head Girl, isn’t there like an oath between you lot,  one for all and all for one, or some rot?”
“That’s the three musketeers,” he says.
“isn’t that basically who you guys are?” She reasons.
Before their wage of words could continue, Sirius just grabs the order form out of Marlene’s hands and fills out a sheet with the flurry of his pen. “Happy?”
“Positively delighted,” she leers, pecking them both on the cheek before strutting off, reminding them of their group study session at Alice’s tonight in her wake.
Sirius shakes his head, reluctantly amused with a grin gathering on the corners of his mouth, but for Remus everything feels like it’s frozen. “You didn’t have to do that you know? ’S not like James is much of a Head Boy anyhow, and Lily wouldn’t have really cared.”
Sirius shrugs, commences their walk to the opposite wing of the school for their shared history class. “Emmy likes that sort of romantical shite.”
Remus sees red, feels his heart lodging in his damn esophagus. “Oh, so— Erm,  you’re taking her then,” Remus wonders if his tone sounds as detached as he feels.
“Yeah,” Sirius eyes him, questioning. “She wants that title of snow queen real bad, made me promise I’d campaign with her and the whole shtick.”
“Oh,” it’s like Remus could feel it when he closes off completely, can feel his hopes squashed down and his heart contract and his every organ collapsing in on themselves, leaving him feeling hollowed out completely.
Sirius slows down marginally, eyeing him with a slight frown. “Is that all right? I know you two don’t exactly get along and we were planning to go as a group, bu—“
“It’s fine,” Remus hates how screechy his voice gets, how he feels like he’s about to scream. “You two are a shoe in, no doubt.”
Sirius tries to mirror Remus’s faux excitement with a tepid grin of his own, but Remus doesn’t let him, instead commandeering their typical table on the back row and tries focussing on the thousandth war with France while his world tilts off kilter.
.-
Emmy is beautiful, and popular and her smile alone dazzles the whole room. She’s everything that Sirius should look for in a partner, someone to match his whip lash wit, and his taste for all things exuberant that skirt on flashy, and someone who’s got just as many friends and admirers as him.
They’re perfect and Remus should just get over his petty ass hatred of her, even if he still thinks she can be down right cruel and selective and selfish. Qualities Sirius surely isn’t… But maybe it’s all in his head how she sneers at people who she finds plane, or how she literally guffaws over the misfortune of others. Maybe his perception of how she wields people in like moths to a flame just to get what she wants is all a misunderstanding, or in his head or something.
Maybe all that’s possible, even if Remus seriously doubts it.
But at the end of the day, Sirius loves her— has been basically infatuated by Emmeline Vance since she first transferred at the start of their Freshman year. Sirius loves her, and who ever Sirius loves is merely an extension of him… Right?
Remus just needs to get over it and somehow rid himself of this crush he’s been fostering for so long it’s basically a part of him at this point. Though, he thinks it’d be a lot easier if he didn’t see their faces plastered on posters everywhere the week and a half leading up to the dance— looking like actual royals that would put Will and cate to shame.
.-
“Yo cheekbones!”
Remus starts, swivels around from where he was scratching his pen to paper, finding Sirius— as glimmering and beautiful as always— swaggering up to him, insanely electric smile painted over his face.
“Would you rather eat a jumbo jar of jalapeños without a break, or eat the toenails from someone with athlete’s foot next to your dinner every night of the rest of your life?”
“I thought you were having lunch with Emmy to keep up your royalty status before this weekend?” Remus asks, tacitly side stepping from the horrific images swimming to the forefront of his mind because of his cruel question.
“Now that doesn’t sound like an answer to my ultimatum,” Sirius says in a singsong sort of voice.
“You answer me first,” Remus says airily.
“But I asked first,” Sirius argues haughtily.
“Well both your options would kill me, so I wouldn’t do either,” Remus retorts.
“That’s not how the game works!”
“You’re the one who always says that rules were made to be broken,” Remus says, lofty as all get out,, and dissolves into laughter at the completely cross look Sirius’s giving him.
“You were born to be contrary, weren’t you?”
“So lunch?”
“Got bored,” he shrugs, hopping onto the corner of the desk Remus’s working on. “What you up to instead of eating?”
“My position paper for Model UN.” Sirius smiles down at him, and Remus can’t help the flush that spreads across his cheeks in return. “Not as glamorous as running as Snow King, I know.”
“It’s precious,” Sirius contends, his soft timbre sounding like syrup and his long fingers fluttering against Remus’s skin, pushing back a lock of his ever disheveled, tawny curls in a far to gentle way, and Remus gulps before averting his gaze to break the sudden tautness that’s built between them.
They’ve had so many of these almost moments, ones that Remus’s always treasured but he knows doesn’t mean much of anything at all to Sirius— Sirius who is effortlessly hilarious, and brims with genius and  who is so beautiful that sometimes it hurts looking at him for too long. Sirius who has a new suitor at his beck and call on a near weekly basis. But whenever they transpire now, it just hurts all the more because Remus knows in his heart of hearts that they will never lead anywhere, and Sirius is in love with Emmy and Remus can’t let himself float around in this daydream for any longer.
“Ahem,” he clears his throat, shuffles in his seat only slightly. “I’m Algeria so my Mam’s pretty excited about it. She’s been telling me all the stuff Wikipedia’s got wrong and everything.”
Sirius laughs, but it doesn’t touch his eyes. “Your mother is kinda everything, you know that?”
Remus twists his mouth up, reluctant. “Don’t tell her as much, or else she’ll go on and on how she won Miss Teen Great Britain when she was only sixteen.”
“Hmm, I was wondering where you got that pretty face.”
“You, Sirius Black, can go lick an unwashed arse.”
“You’ll never catch a suitor with that cheek of yours though. I’d work on that, Lupin.”
“I don’t think I could ever win Miss Congeniality, alas.”  Remus doesn’t quite catch Sirius’s reply, to busy responding too the text his phone just chirped with instead.
“Mary John, are you listening?”
“Uh-huh.”
Sirius’s brows hike up, flabbergasted smile stretched across his face. “So totally rude! And I came all the way here— to the place where dreamers die— just to spend time with you.”
“Sorry,” Remus gives him an abashed little half grin before setting the phone back down. “’s just Fabian.”
Sirius’s expression drops, goes inquisitive instead of his typical ebullience. “Fabian? Why’s Fabian Prewett texting you, and why is he,” Sirius crooks his head so he’s able to read the new message that popped up on Remus’s phone’s screen. “Asking about color coordination?”
Remus blushes for an entirely new reason now, one he likes much less. “Ah, he’s the sort to like it when our suits like match, but not in an abrasive fashion, you know?”
Sirius’s face goes scarily blank.
“Your suits? Suits for what?”
“The dance…” Remus says slowly, he’s confused what Sirius’s confused about.
“The dance… Right… I thought you were still going with everyone else?”
“Pff, no way,” Remus scoffs. “Lily’s  only pretending to be single, you know how red in the face she gets whenever around James. They’ll end up dancing the whole night away. And with Dorcas running the whole event and Benjy thinking any social function is a plague on society, that’d leave me stuck with Peter and Mary, . And honestly I’ve seen enough of her tongue shoved down his throat for a lifetime.” Remus is only slightly  surprised that doesn’t even elicit a chuckle from Sirius, who’s now looking a bit stormy— and he thinks he’ll never be accustomed to his mercurial moods that can change as quickly as the snap of the finger.
“Right… So you’re going with Fabian Prewett… as your date?”
“Yes… Why is that so hard to believe?”
“it’s, it’s not,” Sirius scrambles, suddenly standing up.
“Then why are you being so weird about this,” Remus argues, getting up to meet him at his level.
“Am not!”
“You’re going with Emmy,” Remus reminds him, this edge of desperate.
“I know I am, okay. But you— you—“ Sirius tappers off, eyes glassy and lips parted with words he can’t get out, and Jesus fucking Christ is it weird how for the first time ever their roles have reversed. Sirius can’t put any sentences together, and everything Remus’s been beating down—  everything thrashing inside of him— are now burning his throat and warring over who can spill out first.
“What? I’m suppose to stay behind like the pathetic, nobody friend. The guy who’s just there to moon after you while you have an actual life. The Judie garland to your Mickie Roomie!”
“What are you even talking about right now!” Sirius shouts, sounding as torn apart as Remus feels.
“As if you don’t know!” He snarls, collecting his books into his backpack— Suddenly this room feels to stifling. He can’t breathe and it’s too hot and his chest is pounding.
He’s imploding and Remus has no idea how to rectify it.
“Just stop! Remus Stop!”
“leave me the fuck alone Sirius!”
“Why are you being such a prick about this!”
And that, that makes Remus angry, angrier than he’s ever been.
Before he could even think about it for a moment longer, Remus is rounding on him, dashing so close to Sirius that he can taste his breath with how close their faces are skirting against each other.
“I’m in love with you! I’ve been in love with you for forever, and I know that you don’t feel the same way, and I know that you’re in love with Emmy and, and I just know okay.”
“Wha—“ Sirius sputters, looking like a gaping fish. “Wait a second, are you jealous? Of sodding Emmy Vance?”
“Don’t!” Remus practically growls out. "Don’t disrespect me, okay? Don’t pretend that you never knew, or that I was such a good actor. I’ve been in love with you for years and you always knew and Fine, I get it. You never felt the same way, that’s fine. But just don’t pretend as if you never had the choice, don’t make me out as the bad guy for actually, finally saying yes to a bloke who’s actually into me. I need to fucking give up on the premise of us, I need to get over you. So I’m going out with fucking Fabian Prewett and you’re going out with Emmy Vance and that’s that!”
His breaths are labored, jagged and painful, as they race out of him, but Remus can’t move. He’s staring straight into Sirius’s beautiful, gray eyes, and he sees everything he’s always seen there, and hates that this is probably the last time he’ll get to be this close to him.
Not after this.
“I didn’t,” is the first thing Sirius croaks out, broken and helpless. “i didn’t know, Remus you have to believe me— I didn’t—”
“How! How could you not know!” He shouts back, but Remus doesn’t get his answer in so many words, instead he feels it.
He feels it when Sirius clamps his hands on either end of his waste-line, feels it when Sirius smashes their lips together in a cacophony of lips, and teeth and spit. He feels it when Sirius moans in side of him, when his hand moves down, spreads across the width of the small of his back, pushing their torsos even closer. Remus feels it when everything goes into focus, when he takes Sirius into his arms, greedy and excited and disbelieving.
And Remus thinks to all the other times he’s kissed another boy— To this prior weekend swapping snogs with a beaming Fabian in the back of a theatre. He thinks of how there was never anything worth anything when he kissed any of them Because it was all Sirius, always Sirius. And he could try to love Fabian, or some other cute boy, and he tried, and he tried, and he tried, and he gave all he had…but it was never enough, could it ever be enough?
Remus knows it in his bones that it’s enough when it’s with Sirius.
When they finally pull apart it’s difficult to breathe and Remus feels lightheaded and it’s wonderful in the most marvelous of ways.
“Oh.”
“Yeah,” Sirius says in a whisper.
“Maybe next time give a guy some warning?” Remus can’t help the shit eating smirk that swipes across his mouth and is elated at the adorably cross scowl Sirius answers him with.
“Fine jackass, how’s this for a warning, I’m gonna kiss you now.”
“That’ll be sufficient, I suppose,” Remus goads, laughing against Sirius’s lips when he does just that.
~*~
Sirius ends up winning snow king, but rejects the dance with Emmy, opts to ask Remus to join him instead, as if they were in the middle of some John Hughes movie from the fucking 80s.
It’s utterly ridiculous and overdone and simply way too much— but everyone applauded and cheered and when Sirius kissed him in the middle of it, Remus felt as if his whole body sung with joy.

Fever Dream High in the Quiet of the Night
@petalstosarah thank you for another Taylor prompt! I love them so much! Cruel Summer just screams Jily to me (along with most of the Lover album!) and I had a lot of fun writing this!! Can also be read on Ao3!
It was quiet.
The usual buzz of the bugs and heat and the street lights was nonexistent for once. The rolling blackouts were making the house stifling, but James didn’t care. He didn’t care about the heat, about the bugs, about the darkness, as today he was able to see the stars.
He heard the creaking of the garden gate below, and checked his watch, it was one in the morning, she was always on time. That was the thing about Lily Evans, she was always punctual, always calm, always in control of every situation she was in.
James carefully left his bedroom, glancing over at Remus and Sirius curled up together in his bed where they had fallen asleep hours ago in the heat. They would wake up sweaty and gross in the morning, and James hoped that he wasn’t around for when Sirius started complaining about his skin breaking out.
James jumped the last two steps of the stairs, they creaked from years of use and he didn’t need anyone in the house waking up.
“Hey,” whispered James, as he reached out to take Lily’s hand and pulled her in close. He kissed her softly and ran his fingers through her long sweet smelling hair. He had been in love with her for so long, ever since she had beat him in the quiz team trials three years ago to get on the team. “I’ve missed you.”
Lily smiled at him in the moonlight, her bright green eyes shining despite the darkness surrounding them. James kept his hand in her hair, unable to let go of all of her so quickly.
“It’s been,” said Lily, picking up his wrist to check his watch, “less than three hours James, since we were together.”
“Yeah,” agreed James, wrapping his arm around her shoulders and pulling her closer to him, “but we weren’t alone. As much as I love Remus and Sirius and Peter and Mary, it’s not the same.”
Lily rolled her eyes at him and James smiled down at her, kissing her forehead and wishing that he could stay in this moment forever. He wished that he could always stay in this moment with her and never have to leave or move away from her.
He never imagined that he would get a summer of stolen kisses and late night talks. He never imagined that he would have Lily Evans sneaking into his garden every night, she came when it rained, when the heat was unbearable, when she was tired, even when she had fought with her sister. She came over, every night, on clockwork. Always at one, always when he was about to fall asleep himself.
He loved her.
“James,” whispered Lily, her voice so soft that he almost couldn’t hear her. “I don’t wanna keep secrets just to keep you, but I snuck in through the garden gate every night this summer just to seal our fate. And I just gotta say…for whatever it’s worth James…I love you. And I’ve been in love you for the last two years.”
It was the first time she had ever said those words, and James felt his heart beat loud in his chest. He wasn’t sure if he had actually heard her correctly or not.
“Well, that’s not the worst thing I’ve ever heard,” James whispered, before he met her eyes, sure that he was grinning like a devil. “I love you too, Lily.”
What a cruel, cruel summer it had been to them.
James closed his eyes as Lily kissed him, and James picked her up in his arms, faintly aware that he was moving, that he was spinning them around. He burst out laughing as he hit the ground, Lily on top of him, her arms wrapped tight around his neck, her face in his shoulder as she giggled.
“This is ridiculous,” mumbled Lily and James opened his eyes, he didn’t think he would ever stop smiling. Today was perfect, despite the heat and the boredom and the bad movie Sirius had forced them all to watch so he could snog Remus in the AC.
“Is it?” asked James, as he found the North Star high above them. “Because I think today has been perfect.”
“I think I can change my mind,” whispered Lily as she sat up, her face appearing over his, her emerald green eyes dancing with happiness. James reached forward and pushed her hair out of her face, before cupping his hand around her neck and pulling her mouth down to his.
He never wanted this night to end, never wanted the summer to end.
“Oi!” yelled Sirius from James’ open window. “Quit snogging Evans and tell me where you hid my face masks!”
Lily tucked her face back into James’ shoulder and James rolled his eyes as he joined her in her laughter. Maybe the day wasn’t perfect, but he got one perfect moment and that was all he really needed.

Dreams come true | Lily Evans x fem!reader
summary: You are in love with your best friend Lily but she doesn’t know until you play truth or dare
warnings: slight swearing, kissing, just pure fluff (tell me if there is anything missing)
song: Line Without a hook cover wlw by Lola Mercer (full version on YouTube)
As always after a won quidditch match, there was a huge party with all the Gryffindors. One of your best friends, James Potter, in the centre as he was the captain.
Slowly, more and more people went off to bed and only the small group of your best friends remained; James, Peter and Remus sat on one sofa, Sirius in front of it between Remus‘ legs as the werewolf absently played with his boyfriend‘s hair. Mary and Marlene sat on chairs next to each other. Which made you and your best friend and crush Lily share the armchair. That the two of you were sat so close to each other made you happy on the one hand, but also uncomfortable as none of them knew that you liked girls.
„So“, Marlene started. „We should play truth or dare.“
„That‘s boring. We always do that“, Sirius retorted.
Marlene smirked and pulled something out of her bag. You immediately knew that the liquid in the little vial was truth serum. „But not with this.“
„Is it what I think it is?“, Lily asked and Marlene nodded.
„What is it then?“, Peter asked confused.
„Truth serum“, you answered. Sirius‘ and James‘ eyes lit up. The two best friends looked at each other and grinned, just as if they knew what the other one thought.
„I‘m in“, they said at the same time.
„Me too.“ Peter watched as James impression changed and he was proud of him.
„I don‘t have a choice in this, do I?“ You knew Remus didn’t want to share his secrets, but surely he was excited about finding out about the ones from his friends.
„Y/N? Lily?“, Mary asked.
„Yeah, why not?“, you said. Deep down you hoped Lily would have to take a drop of the serum and spill her secrets. The more you hoped that she would say that she liked you. But you knew that this wouldn’t happen.
„Okay“, Lily said.
„Yes!“, Marlene stated. „Okay, who‘s first?“
„I am“, Sirius said. „So, James, truth or dare?“
The boy thought for a second and answered then. „I‘m going with truth.“ Marlene handed him the vial and he took a drop. After he swallowed, Sirius asked his question.
„What is going on between you and my brother?“ You choked on your own spit and your eyes went wide. The reactions from the others weren’t different and all of you waited eager for an answer.
„Regulus and I are in a relationship. I have to tell you, Pads, your genes are the best. That boy - damn, he is something. His kisses - wow. And the-“ Remus threw his hand to James‘ mouth before he could say more, which you were more than happy. He waited a moment before removing it.
Sirius sat there in shock. „You and Reggie?“ James nodded shyly. „Fuck, prongs, why didn’t you say anything?“
„Thought you might hate me.“
Sirius shook his head. „I could never hate you. Just don’t break his heart. And if he breaks yours, tell me and I put him in his place.“ You chuckled and looked at Lily, who looked very pleased.
„Okay, enough bromance“, Mary said. „Peter, truth or dare?“
And so it all started. Many secrets were spilled; Sirius said I love you to Remus, he returned it. Marlene finally came out and said she has a girlfriend. Even though everyone already knew that.
Mary had to lick your foot. In return, you had to smell James quidditch hoodie. You nearly threw up by the smell of his sweat.
„Y/N, your turn. Truth or dare?“, Remus asked. „And no dare again. I want to know your deepest secrets.“
Even though you didn’t want to as you were too afraid Lily might find out about your crush on her, you practically had no choice. Mary gave you the truth serum and you let one drop fall onto your tongue.
„So, do you have a crush on someone?“, Sirius asked. You felt the heat rise in you cheeks but nodded slightly. „Who is he?“
„What‘s his name?“, Marlene asked excited.
„Is he a Gryffindor?“ Peter wants to know.
„Is he older?“ Another question from Remus with the wrong pronouns.
„She‘s a - she’s a lady“, you said. „And I am not a boy.“
The room fell silent and everyone looked with a shocked expression to you. Peter‘s mouth opened and closed. Sirius‘ was just open, the same with James, Remus and Mary. Marlene just smiled. But Lily, you could swear you heard her breath hitch.
„Oh my god“, Remus whispered, then he smiled. „That‘s - that‘s great Y/N. I think I can talk for everyone that we fully support you and are always there for you if you need to talk.“ Everyone nodded and smiled at you. But you didn’t dare to look to your right to see Lily‘s reaction.
„Thanks, guys“, you replied.
You stopped playing and talked for another hour until all of you went to bed. You couldn’t sleep that night. Your thoughts wandered to Lily every time you closed your eyes and you were afraid that you just ruined you whole friendship with her.
~~~
One week went by and you didn’t talk to her one time. Sure, she said good morning and good night when others were around. But when you were alone, which luckily wasn’t often, both of you stayed silent.
Now, on Saturday, you already had your homework done and just laid on the sofa in the common room as you heard the portrait hole open. You sat up straight and hoped it wasn’t Lily. But it was.
She smiled as she saw you but intended to go into her dorm when you stopped her. „Lily, wait, please.“ She turned around and faced you. „Can we talk? Can you sit down?“
„Of course“, she mumbled, put her bag next to the sofa and sat down next to you.
„Is everything alright between us? We didn’t talk after … Saturday.“ The last part came out rather quiet.
She breathed in through her nose and exhaled through her mouth, which she just did when she was nervous or stressed. „I-I don‘t know what I am supposed to say.“
„See, Lils, it‘s okay. You don’t have to, let me do it. I like girls, okay? Okay. It’s not like I like you … You‘re my best friend, right? You don’t even like girls.“ You giggled as an attempt to smooth the vibes, but only made it worse. And lying to her felt horrible.
She straightened herself and looked down at her hands. „You don’t?“, she whispered.
„I -“ You didn’t know what to say. Eventually you decided to just give it a shot. She must know. She had every right to know that you loved her. And there was a slight chance that she liked you back. „I do. I do like you. I-I love you. Not just as a friend. I am in love with you.“ You breathed out but continued and tried to make it better. „You don’t have to like me, obviously. Don’t say a thing. I shouldn’t-“
She grabbed your face in both of her hands, turned it to her and smiled at you. „Please, Y/N, just shut up.“ She pulled your face towards hers and looked into your eyes one more time before pressing her lips down at yours.
You rested your hands on her hips and pulled her closer to you as yourlips were moving together. You never wanted to do anything else than this, she was just so addicting. If you could’ve stopped the time, you wouldn’t have to think twice.
But the two of you ran out of oxygen, so you pulled away from each other. There was just a bit of space between you. Your eyes were still closed, you were overwhelmed with what just happened. You couldn’t believe it.
„Y/N?“ You opened you eyes and looked and her smiling face. „I love you too.“
„Really?“, you asked in positive shock.
„Wasn’t it obvious?“ You shook your head and she laughed. „Yes, I love you. So much.“ She kissed you again, this time it was a soft, small kiss.
And your dream came true. Lily Evans loved you back.
Don’t miss the Yule Ball.
Sirius finally opens up to James Potter, and he realizes a lot of things. He has decided he will go the yule ball, but the question is: with whom?
Chapter 3
Sirius kept chewing his first bite for a little longer than he was supposed to, because Remus had left the Great Hall looking apprehensive, and gruesome. He sighed through his breakfast, waiting for the day to get by. He was pushing down all the unnecessary thoughts and emotions because he didn’t want to expect anything from anyone, especially how the last night had turned out.
He had woken up with a better feeling—if he had to be honest with himself—because Remus had finally not just smiled at him but hugged him with genuine earnest and he had held him until Sirius was done crying. The memory was painfully sweet in his head. Nevertheless, he was slightly hopeful than yesterday. Remus had always tried to bring the best out of him. The tug of war in his brain about his friendship and relationship with Remus was easing out in his mind, while also clenching his heart. He took another bite of his porridge, and thought that he should stop worrying about normalcy. He realized that wanting normal with this desperation was going to make him fall in the pits of agitation. He was not able to deal with another heartache. For once, he wanted to give his heart a break.
He gulped down his bite, and he decided he was going to the same with his desires and dreams. He was going to be grateful of the things he had in life; Good friends, miles away from his abusive parents, good education, and especially, his magic. He was himself because he knew how to kindle fire by the swipe of his fingers, he could wave his wand and conjure blue stardust while walking alone in the forest, and he could conjure a patronus to keep the sadness away for a while.
His thinking cycle came to a halt when James and Peter rushed to the hall, and haphazardly began swallowing their breakfast. Sirius was so captured seeing them not uttering a word and gulping down their teas and milk in one breath.
“Merlin, Pads—could have told us—“ James was managing to breathe while munching his toasts, debauching all the manners and etiquettes of eating by spraying the breadcrumbs everywhere on the table.
“Wow, Prongs, you really know how to eat.” Sirius laughed amusingly. Both of the Marauders glared at him. And once they were done, James said that they were already five minutes late for Transfiguration. This time Sirius didn’t think of manners at all, and stumbled out his seat as the three of them raced to the classroom. The air whooshed through them as they pushed through the crowd of students and teachers who shouted things like ‘Hey! Watch it!’ and ‘5 points from Gryffindor!’
The air smelled of nostalgia as Sirius felt the adrenaline in his blood and giddiness in his stomach. The three of them were running like they used to when Filch would catch them and they would hide in the broom cupboards for hours until the course were clear, and then they would laugh like maniacs. It felt all the same to Sirius when they reached the classroom, and he was getting breathless in the most satisfying way. The doors opened, stealing everyone’s attention. Mcgonacall had her usual glare, and Sirius spotted Remus sitting with Lily, his face looked scarlet which made Sirius feel the same heating flush beneath his cheeks and neck.
“Mr Potter, Mr Black and Mr Pettigrew, why is it always you three to be late in my class?” There was something different about Mcgonacall as her gaze is fixed at Sirius. He could swore that there was a hint of smile playing on her lips. She ordered them to take seats, and Peter sat with Mary while James with Sirius. The both of them had to keep hands on their mouths to suppress the bubbling laughter. James gave him a playful nudge, his eyes were whispering something meaningful, and Sirius felt a gush of affection for him.
The day went by with Double Transfiguration with the Slytherins, Charms with Ravenclaws, and Double History of Magic with the Hufflepuffs. James and Sirius were walking to the common room to put their books and notes and then return to the dinner with the rest of Marauders.
“So, Padfoot…” James smirked at him, “I have an unbelievable news to share with you.”
“Have you finally learn not to make a fool of yourself?” Sirius got a harsh fling of James’ arm around his shoulder that he staggered in his pace, almost collapsing on the floor but James held him firmly.
“Hey, hey, hey,” James’ voice was soaked with concern, “You okay? I’m sorry I didn’t know I was that harsh.”
“No, it was not harsh.” Sirius managed to say but the other didn’t seem convinced. He was getting some serious brain-fogs from the past few days, and he hadn’t told anyone yet, not even Madam Pomfrey.
“Then what was that, Sirius? What is going on? Are you not well?” Those were so many questions for Sirius to answer. He didn’t want to disrupt his day which was finally going better for the first time in forever. However with James’ big hazel eyes were staring at him like that as if they were saying hundreds of things to him he felt the urge to tell him everything—by everything meant everything.
And then they didn’t return for dinner, they were in their dorm alone with no interruption. Sirius told him how frequently he had been experiencing panic attacks, and how much tired he felt, like always, how he felt like his bones were feeble, and his muscles were aching, how he was also experiencing constant brain-fogs. And then, he also told him how he was dealing with emotional pain the most, how constantly he was thinking and trying to commit act of self-harm, and how much he was thinking how he had let the Marauders down. James listened him very carefully with full attention, nodded in the right places and shushed him when Sirius talked about how much he missed Remus. He was struggling to get louder because his voice was not cooperating with him. He was gushing out all of the emotions which were buried in the depths of him. He cried at some parts but he was calm because James’ hand was there squeezing his arm, and rubbing his back. When they were done, they fell into comfortable silence, and Sirius felt as light as a feather.
“So what was the good news?” Sirius said to break the silence.
“Uh…” James smiled weakly at him, “I asked Evans to go with to the ball as my date and she said yes.”
Sirius smiled at him genuinely, “I’m happy for you, Prongs.” He hit him with a playful punch but James didn’t respond too much. He looked sad, and it was awkward. Sirius never wanted that. They fell into another round of silence before he felt two arms wrapped from his behind, tugging there. Sirius put his hands on James’, sitting under the cloud of melancholy.
“I’m sorry, Padfoot. You were keeping a lot inside of you. I don’t like when you do that.” Sirius smiled warmly at his mildly aggressive voice, “I am your brother, and you are supposed to tell me that. And all of that. Everything, buddy. I love you, you know that right?”
“There is no reason to be a sap, Potter.” Sirius elbowed him, “But yeah, and I love you, too. Always have and always will.”
“Look, who’s a bigger sap now.”
“Okay, Evans said yes—“ Sirius pulled away to face him, but he was cut off by James in mid-sentence.
“For the ball. I don’t want to get my hopes up.”
“Who are you and what have you done with my best friend?”
James didn’t smile. There was still something despondent about him. After a brief silence, he said, “Pads, this may sound a little weird but hear me out…” Sirius nodded, “You should ask Moony for tomorrow.”
“Oh no, no, no, no,”
“Why!?” James whined.
“’Why’? What do you mean ‘why’? Out of all people, you should not be the one to say that.”
“No, Padfoot, I should be the person to say that! You told me how he encouraged to go to the ball. I mean, why would he? Either he is trying to be your mom and asking you to have fun or he is giving signals for you to ask him to be your date for the ball!”
“Considering Remus, he was definitely being a mother-hen.”
“Think about it, Moony doesn’t easily like someone. He never dated anyone except you because you are the one he fell in love with, you tosser!
That’s when the door swung open, revealing Remus and Peter which confused looks. Sirius felt like his heart was in his throat.
“Thought we’d find you guys here.” Peter said, throwing his satchel on his bed, “Why did you miss dinner?”
“Oh, we completely lost track of time.” Sirius said successfully because the room had started to feel small with Remus’ presence, “We should go to the kitchen, Prongs.” He was hoping he could just skip the anxiety and continue his chance of talking out with James more. He was talking after ages, and it felt lighter and easy. Suddenly, he was very grateful for having James Potter in his life.
“Oh, you know what, you stay here. Wormy and I will bring food for you.” James piped up with his stupid grin, and Sirius began to have second thoughts on being grateful of James.
“What!?” Peter retorted, “But I just came back!”
“And you could come back again, my best friend Wormy!” Sirius scowled at James who in returned gave him a thumbs-up, gesturing to talk to Remus who was putting down his books in on his nightstand. Soon, the whiny Peter and an overly-smart James were out of the dorm, leaving him and Remus alone.
Sirius was fidgeting with his fingers anxiously, gazing at Remus’ back.
“I can feel you staring at me.” Sirius thought he was completely frozen. Remus turned to face him, smiling small at him.
“Yeah…” Sirius let out a breathless chuckle, “I was just…”
Awkward silence.
“Remus, I wanted to ask you something and if you don’t think the same way, I would completely understand.” His heart was hammering in his chest. Remus nodded at him. He took a deep breath and finally the words were out, “Will you go to the ball with me as my date?”
Extremely awkward silence. Remus was opening and closing his mouth to say something but no words were audible enough as an answer to Sirius. That’s because he doesn’t have any answer, Sirius thought to himself.
“Sirius…” Remus finally said, “I can’t.”
It wasn’t like Sirius wasn’t expecting this, but it still hurt him like a dagger shot right into his heart.
“I mean…” Remus continued, scratching the back on his head or pulling his sleeve, “it’s not like I don’t want to, because I do…A lot, actually…”
His voice was turning croaky, and Sirius was able to see that it was not easy for Remus either.
“But, I already have a date.” This time it hurt more than earlier. Sirius wanted to laugh, and he did. Remus froze, looking dumbfounded. It was a strange thing that hurting not always accompany the act of shedding tears. Sirius was actually laughing at himself that he was a fool to believe, like actually believe.
“Of course, of course,” Sirius wiped the tears in the corner of his eyes, “Of course, you have a date. How can you not?” He was shaking his head, still unable to control his laugh. It was a very wrong judgment.
Sirius x reader-hogsmeade trip
Warning:smut and language
the reader is at hogsmeade alone at the three broomstick when a guy tries to get with her. sirius getting mad at the guy for hitting on his girlfriend.
Tumblr media
you woke up to lily and the others getting ready for the day, you got up and started your day. getting showered, you put on a dark blue wool skirt with long black socks to cover yourself from the cold, a white blouse, and a long grey coat with a lapel collar, you made your way down the stairs.
Sirius was waiting for you in the common room like always. he was wearing black pants, with a green sweater, brown boots, a long dark brown coat, and a grey scarf in hand.
"there you are princess" he smiled walking towards you, grabbing your hand as you both started for the main hall to have breakfast. the smell of breakfast waking you right up, you sat to Lily's right, and Sirius sat to your right.
"We have a Hogsmeade trip today" Sirius grinned "what do you say we go to zonko's joke shop?" he suggested to the rest of the marauders.
"oh, I was kinda hoping we could hang out for a bit" you didn't want to be that girlfriend, but between exams, studying, and his detentions, you kind of wanted some time with him.
"We can do that later, we can all go the three broomsticks" he began eating his eggs.
"I just wanted a bit more of us time, I barely get to see you anymore" you tried.
"oh, well we can spend loads of time after, promise" he kissed your forehead lightly.
you forced a slight smile, but couldn’t help feeling hurt that he didn't want to be with you the same. after breakfast the lot of you went to the carriages going to Hogsmeade. the marauders went to zonko's, and you didn't feel like doing much so you went ahead to the three broomsticks to wait for them. lily, Marlene, and Mary had all gone to honey dukes. it was almost Christmas, so the snow and cold wind made you shiver, and walk faster to get to a warm place. you arrived at the three broomsticks and sat down at an empty table.
"y/n" a voice Spoke out as you were taking off your jacket, you looked up to see a Ravenclaw boy from your herbology class.
"Jake, hey" you greeted.
"can I?" he motioned to the empty seat in front of you.
"um yeah, but I'm kinda waiting on Sirius, and the others, they went to zonko's and honey dukes" you explained.
"Sirius left you here all alone?" he sat down.
"well he just wanted to hangout with the guys, and get new things for pranks and stuff"
"Why are you still with him though? I mean come on y/n, a pretty girl like you shouldn't have to be sitting here all alone."
"excuse me?" you asked insulted at his words, the audacity.
"I see how he's never really around" he crept closer "how could someone as careless as him satisfy you?"
"look, I don't think it's your place to comment on my relationship, and to be honest you're not my type. I don't know what you were hoping for, but it's not gonna happen."
"don't be so uptight y/n" he placed a hand on your thigh and the other on your hand.
"don't touch me" you tried to move his hand from your thigh, but his grip on your hand tightened hurting you.
"the bloody hell do you think you're doing?" a voice thundered from behind.
you both turned around, Jake released his grip on you, and moved far away standing up.
"look man I wasn't looking for any trouble." Jake stuttered out. Sirius was standing by the door, he walked closer, fists clenched. James and Remus behind Sirius, Remus walked toward you moving you behind them.
"I don't give a bloody hell what the fuck you were looking for, who the hell do you think you are to touch her like that" Sirius barked.
"I didn't think it would be much of a problem, I mean what type of bloke leaves a girl like that all alone” jake was starting to regain his absurd courage “she was asking for it" Jake had struck a chord so deep in Sirius, he barely finished his sentence when Sirius punched him sending Jake on the floor. James and Remus started trying to hold Sirius back as much as they could.
"Sirius" you called and grabbed Sirius by the arm he was getting ready to swing once more. you knew that if anything more happened, Sirius would be the one in trouble. "come on, he's not worth getting in trouble for" Sirius turned to you, looking at you for the first time since he had come in, you looked at him brows furrowed "please".
"you better leave before I change my mind," Sirius said to the boy with the bloody nose on the floor, he quickly got up and through the door of the three broomsticks "and you better pray I never see you within 5ft of y/n! not even merlin himself will save you" Sirius yelled at Jake before he left. Sirius turned to you, grabbing your hands gently, seeing where the guy had left a small mark that was already fading, Sirius frowned. He turned to James and Remus.
"I'm taking y/n back up to the castle" the latter nodded in agreement.
Sirius guided you back outside and you made your way to the carriages.
"Sirius I'm fine, really" you tried, he didn't respond, he just placed you on a seat of a carriage, and glided next to you, the carriage beginning to move its way to the castle. "the dude was just a jack ass, he's not worth spoiling the day for" you touched his hand, holding it.
"he's not wrong" Sirius finally spoke.
"what?"
"I just- seeing him make a move like that on you, on my y/n"
"he was an idiot, who would think I would choose someone like him over you" you comforted.
"I never want someone to even think of taking you from me like that, you're mine" he wrapped an arm around you with a peculiar strength, it felt eager.
"I want everyone to know that you are more than fulfilled" he whispered in your ear, making you relieved you were sitting down, not sure you would trust your wobbly legs right now.
"I don't want anyone to touch my kitten" he slid a hand to your inner thigh.
"Sirius please" your voice unexpectedly shaky. he put a nad on your face, thumb on your lips.
"Please what?" he growled.
"Please daddy"
he began to kiss you, his right hand inching closer to your panties, brushing them aside. you tried to inhale as his fingers began on your throbbing core.
"so wet for me princess" Sirius let out. "all for me?"
"I'm only ever wet for you" you whispered "all for you, daddy"
Sirius smiled mischievously, two fingers entering you making you let out a small gasp of pleasure, his thumb began to stimulate your clit. his other hand on your back, Sirius began to kiss your neck leaving rough and messy hickeys.
"look at you become a mess at my touch" he breathed in your ear kissing it, his other hand moving to your breasts, messaging them. the pleasure in you building up as you edged closer and closer. the carriage came to a stop and so did he, you opened your eyes seeing you were back in the castle, you gave a shaky breath.
"you cum when I want you to" Sirius muttered taking the fingers that had made you a mess before and giving them a taste with a smirk.
"Please Siri, I need you" frustrated to finish. you looked down to see the tent in his pants, you smiled biting your lip, excited to help him out.
"let's go somewhere more private princess" he took your hand, as you both rushed into the castle. Hurrying into an empty classroom, you locked the door, as he started taking his belt off. you took no time to take off your coat, and unbutton your blouse.
“Leave the boots… only the boots” he instructed making you smirk obeying.
Sirius took his belt from the floor and started to loop it.
“Give me your hands” you stretched them out, he buckled them together behind your back.
“Kneel” you got to your knees, he brushed your hair out of your face gently. you took him in your mouth, making him lean his head back letting out a soft growl, getting a grip on your hair.
“Fuck you take me so well” he spit out, All you could do was continue to please him.
After a while he pulled out of your mouth, picked you up, and set you on a desk. Your hands behind your back, you wrapped your legs around his waist, he kissed your neck and rubbed your nipples leaving you a mess.
He didn’t give you a warning before his length lined up to your core, he stretched you out. You moaned, distracted so much by him that you hadn’t noticed him take out his wand putting a silencing charm on you. The moans escaped your lips silent.
“We have to be quiet for now” he purred in your ear. “Trust me, I want the whole castle to know how hard I'm gonna fuck you, but I don't want any interruptions until we get to the good part,” he said.
Usually, you would have stopped, you didn’t want to get in trouble, but he felt so good in you, you didn’t want it to stop, you nodded obediently at him. He grabbed the back of your neck with his left hand, and brought the other to your clit.
“Don't cum until I tell you” he commanded.
“Your tits look so good bouncing like that”
he brought his mouth to your nipple making you moan even more, but no sound came out. He thrusted harder into you making the table shake slightly but you didn’t give one fuck.
“You’re mine, all mine, I'm the only one that can fuck you so well” you nodded in agreement. You hadn’t even realized him taking the silencing spell off you. hitting your g spot, his pace quickening, you wanted to cum but you knew you had to wait for him to tell you to. His pace on your clit also quickening, you wanted to finish, you were right there, you didn’t think you could hold it for much longer. Both of you panting and in a thin sheen of sweat, you felt him chuckle very lightly teasing you.
“Does my baby wanna cum?” He asked.
“Please” you spit out with a moan “please daddy”
“I'm right there with you” he whispered in your ear “cum for me”Your walls tightening around him, he pulled out of you dripping.
he cleaned up with a swish of his wand. The both of you getting dressed, hair messy. You tried to cover the hickeys he put on your neck like a dog marking his territory but had no luck. You opened the door to see that everyone had come back from Hogsmeade for merlin knows how long. The first person that walked by was Jake turning around to walk the other way at the sight of Sirius and you. Remus, James, and lily then approached you.
“Merlin padfoot, you’re lucky McGonagall was in the last carriage and it broke down” James patted Sirius in the back and you all started walking toward the Gryffindor tower. Sirius had an arm wrapped around you on your left, and lily walking along your right.
“Were we that loud?” You whispered to her.
“No, I don't think over at Beauxbâtons could hear you that much”
