Prompt: I've been thinking about a mixture of posts on here and I'd really love Tommy going to talk to Eddie because, maybe Eddie isn't being a great friend? I've read some people think Eddie would fall in line with Gerrard (due to being in the army etc.) and I'd love to see a Tommy/Eddie argument!
When Eddie got a knock on his door at 9pm on a Tuesday, he wasn't sure who to expect. He hadn't gotten a call or text from anyone, and he hadn't ordered any food. He figured he'd be arguing with Jehovah's Witnesses, asking them why the hell they were knocking on his door so late? Usually he'd avoid them altogether, but a little piece of him felt like arguing, so he swung the door open with a dramatic sigh.
He was surprised to see Tommy on the other side of the door, hand raised in a fist, ready to knock again.
âOh. Hey, Tommy. I wasn't expecting you, was I?â
âUm, no. Can I come in for a sec?â
âSure.â Eddie moved out of the way so Tommy could come inside, closing the door behind him. âWant a beer or something?â
âNo, I really can't stay long. I'm heading to Evan's after this.â
Right. Buck. He should've known he'd be getting a visit from Tommy. Buck hadn't exactly left work, or Eddie, on good terms two days ago. Things had been tense for a few weeks now, actually. Everything had slowly been bubbling up until Buck finally burst under the pressure and was sent home early for insubordination. He'd actually been told not to return until he could learn proper chain of command, and if he couldn't learn within a week, he should start searching for a new career path.
âIs Buck the one who sent you?â Eddie asked, crossing his arms over his chest.
Tommy shook his head. âNo. No one sent me.â
Eddie raised an eyebrow. âSo you're not here to kick my ass?â
âShould I be?â
âI don't know,â Eddie answered honestly. âI don't know what you've been told.â
It was kind of a ridiculous sight right now, if you asked Eddie. Two grown men, friends for months now, standing awkwardly in his living room. Neither making any effort to sit or get more comfortable.
âEvan's been having a rough time with Gerrard,â Tommy started. âSounds like he's Gerrard's main target.â
Eddie shrugged. âGerrard likes to push buttons. Buck's buttons are easy to push.â
âLast week he asked Evan if he'd like a bra to go with the apron he wore while cooking.â Tommy tensed even as he spoke the words. âThat doesn't just sound like pressing buttons to me.â
âHe's a wannabe drill sergeant pissed about the fact he never made it through basic training. You do what he says, keep quiet, use your manners, and make him feel like he's the most important person in the room. That's how you get through a shift.â Eddie moved to sit on the couch, but Tommy remained standing. âYou know how this works the same as I do,â he added.
âYeah, I do,â Tommy agreed, although his voice was a bit more commanding now. âProbably better than you do, actually. Doesn't make it okay.â
Eddie sighed, rubbing his eyes. âWhy are you here, Tommy? I'm tired.â
âTo try and stop you from becoming me, you idiot. I've been where you are. I've sat beside Gerrard and watched him treat person after person like nothing but garbage. I kept quiet, I made him feel important, I followed behind him like I was his damn puppy dog. I called him sir, I did whatever he asked, I laughed along with his jokes. You know what that made me?â
Eddie was starting to get annoyed. âWhat?â
âHim. I was no better than him.â
Eddie's eyes darkened. He stood back up, taking a step toward Tommy. âAre you seriously comparing me to that piece of crap?â
âIf the mustache fits.â
âYou need to get out of my house now,â Eddie warned. He could feel his body filling with the same boiling rage that got him thrown in jail a few years ago. He didn't need that to happen again.
âYou repeat to me what Gerrard told Evan two days ago and I'll go,â Tommy offered. âTell me what Gerrard said that finally made him explode and I'll leave.â
âOr I can call the cops on you for trespassing,â Eddie replied, moving to the door and opening it.
Tommy made no effort to leave. âGo for it.â
They stared at each other for a moment, Eddie's chest rising and falling with each heavy breath. When Eddie realized Tommy was never going to back down, his shoulders slumped. âCome on, Man, just leave.â
Tommy doubled down. âTell me what he said,â he demanded, speaking each work slowly and carefully.
âH- He... God, Tommy.â He looked away from him, unable to maintain eye contact as he recalled the event. âBuck fell while we were at a scene, bruised his tailbone. When we were sitting down to eat, Buck moved slow. He winced when he finally got seated... Gerrard saw and said th- that maybe if he... if he spent less time taking and more time giving he wouldn't have so much trouble.â
âBut,â Tommy beckoned for him to continue.
Eddie took a deep breath. âBut he should have expected Buck to be the woman.â
Tommy nodded. âThere it is.â
âListen, Tommy, I-â
âHe could've really used someone sticking up for him. One person to step in and tell Gerrard he'd crossed a line. I get that Hen can't do anything right now. She can't risk not getting Mara back. And I know Howie can't do anything to lose Mara. But you could have said something, Eddie. You could have been there for him, but you weren't.â
And there was the anger again. âWhy the hell is it on me?!â he exclaimed. âI've been going through my own crap, and it's not like you or Buck have really been around to help me out.â
âOh, you cannot be serious right now.â Tommy's posture straightened, his body somehow becoming even wider and taller. It would have caused Eddie to pause and think about what was about to come out of his mouth if he wasn't so mad.
âYeah, I am serious. I've needed people too, Tommy, but you guys have been too busy with each other to even notice.â
âYou made the mess you're in right now, Eddie!â Tommy yelled. âYou did that! You screwed up and it's on you to fix it! But Evan didn't do anything wrong. He sure as hell didn't deserve to be talked to like that, and now his job is on the line because you decided keeping the peace with a piece of scum like Gerrard was more important than speaking up for your supposed best friend. So, yeah, that's on you!â Tommy began to make his way to the door, ready to push past Eddie on his way, but Eddie wasn't finished.
âHey!â He yelled, shoving Tommy back so he couldn't leave. âI've been trying to fix everything on my own! Trying to get my own life back! Hell, I just got to talk to my kid for the first time in over a month!â
âAnd who you think got Christopher to answer the damn phone?!â
It felt like all the air had suddenly been sucked out of Eddie's lungs. He stood there, his mouth hanging open as he tried to find the right words to speak. âI... Buck's been talking to Christopher?â
âEvery day,â Tommy confirmed. âHe calls or texts. Facetime's him every once in a while too. He's been telling Chris how you're doing, trying to get him to call you or text you. He even suggested writing you a letter.â
âI didn't know that.â
âHe didn't really want you to. Christopher had promised him the next time you tried to call, he'd answer. Evan's been like a kid on Christmas Eve, excited for you to tell him how it went after you two talked.â
Eddie didn't know what to say. He wasn't angry anymore, just incredibly disappointed with himself.
âHe's always had your back, Eddie,â Tommy said, making his way out the door. Eddie didn't stop him this time. âIt'd be really nice if you had his.â

You know monsters.
Earth-shattering. Sky-shearing. Teeth, reckless: always striving for something soft to sink into. To make a home in and to eviscerate. Youâve been grazed by itâ kissed by that violence more times than you can countâ and you are not soft anymore; there isnât space for it. There are scars and then thereâs armour, the kind you carry with you, the kind you couldnât shed if you tried, and you havenât tried, because why would you?
Horror isnât loud and cataclysmic, itâs quiet. Itâs those few seconds before your Hunterâs watch signals a fluctuation of Metaflux. A premonition, trained, or maybe just human instinct, raw and vulnerable: something is wrong, here. That prickle on your skinâ the tip of that claw, raked, snaked down your spine. You feel it whenever a Wanderer lurks in the shadows, or beneath a stretch of water thatâs unfathomably deep and far, far too still.
Sometimes, you feel it when you look at Sylus.
I know monsters.
Before you, a fragment of a mural tells a very old story, and beside you, a red-eyed man is thinking of flowers. Itâs late, and the museum is quiet. You look at the fragmentâs centre, where a female warrior is plunging a blade through a dragonâs heart. âLook,â you say, nodding at the figure with a half-smile. âMy predecessor.â
Sylus hums thoughtfully. âWhat makes you say that?â
âBecause that looks like a standard Tuesday to me. Some things never change, huh?â
But other things do. With a chuckle, Sylus draws closer to you. The rumble of his laughter is warm and familiar, and his hand is near yours as he bends to examine the mural. He wants you to take it, to thread your fingers through his like you do when you resonate, when you need his power and he needs yours, except neither of you need it now. Why, then?
You know. Of course you know.
The man is all softness, voice and gaze like an afternoon sun in late summer that lulls you to sleep with thick, golden light. Always trying to evoke a dream. Itâs weakness, itâs the dragon on the mural with a split heart, bleeding, and youâll never understand why Sylus wears his on his sleeve.
Itâll be the death of him, one day. Itâs set in stone. Right here.
When Sylus touches youâ when the tip of his finger catches yours and makes an honest, desperate requestâ you donât pull away. Something inside tugs at you, warns you, tells you a monster without a sword in its chest is one that can bite. What colour of blood would your hands prefer? His? Your own?
Your veins are cold and something is wrong, but no, you donât pull away, because Sylus knows monsters too. Some declare themselves with twisted horns, razorlike wings and a long, barbed tail. Others declare themselves with something as subtle as a touch, withdrawn.
When Sylus steps away from you, that gash of dread closes up inside you. Heals like his wounds: no mess, no scar, but that doesnât mean it didnât hurt.
Heâs had a long time to look at the mural, and he smiles wistfully at the woman at its centre. âSome things never change,â he echoes, and it sounds as though thereâs blood in his lungs, his throat, and that he has to swallow it down to say anything at all. It must sting.
âAll in a dayâs work for a Deepspace Hunter,â you joke flatly. Youâre not even sure Sylus hears it.
Both of you stare at your fragment of history: an execution, a liberation. A matter of perspective. âMaybeâŠâ Sylus begins, but then thinks better of it.
âMaybe what?â
Heâs seeing something you donât.
âMaybe what, Sylus?â
He spares you a glance. âThe pose,â he says, indicating the warrior. âItâs ambiguous. Perhaps she isnât slaying the beast, she could beââ
âSaving it?â
Youâre considering a new perspective. Tapping a finger against your cheek as you lock eyes with your historyâ that elusive dreamâ ever oblivious to whatâs behind you:
Thereâs a look of sheer, infinite longingâ a gaze thatâs been empty of you for too long, so sick of starvation, and determined to have its fill in the few, fleeting moments it can. Itâs ravenous: dangerous, sharp, and irrevocably yours, if you would only turn around.
There are teeth and claws, but theyâre all of them tame, and that makes them soft, doesnât it? You could trust them on your skin. Turn around.
You do, and you are not the girl from the mural who tucked wildflowers into his hair and who sung him a song he still hears in his sleep. Sylusâs heart aches.
You are the girl from the mural whoâs slaying a dragon, because itâs the oldest story, the only story.
Your eyes harden.
âWho would pull out a sword to save a monster?â

could you do prompts 46 and 47 for alessia russo?
Prompt link here.
Stay || Alessia Russo
Summary You hadnât been the same since you broke up with Alessia but when a major change occurs, is there a chance you Could try again?
Breaking up with Alessia had been the hardest thing youâd ever had to go through.
At the end of the day, you still loved Alessia with your whole heart and you knew she still loved you.
However, with the continuous overlap of your busy schedules, you playing for Chelsea and her playing for Arsenal, meant that the both of you couldnât spare anytime for each other, no matter how hard you tried to.
If she had training on a Tuesday morning, youâd have it on a Tuesday afternoon.
She had a match Saturday afternoon, you had an away match on Sunday morning.
She had team bonding on a Friday night, often staying up late and having a lay in on Saturday morning, and you then having training Saturday morning and then team bonding on Saturday nights.
The worst thing was that you felt like Alessia didnât try. She tried, but not as hard as you did.
It didnât work. No matter how hard you tried to make it work, it just couldnât.
So when you and Alessia sat down to talk, it ended with you walking out of the house to stay with Niamh.
It killed you knowing that Alessia wasnât yours anymore, but it was a choice youâd both made, more so you, hoping it would make you both happier.
But it didnât.
After not getting out of bed for anything apart from training, everyone could see the visible effect the breakup had on you.
Niamh ended up ringing Lotte to check to see if Alessia was feeling the same and to no surprise, Alessia had been slumped in bed all week, only coming out for training.
At training, the girls saw the exhaustion in your eyes, the constant sadness on your face, and after two weeks of you having no emotion apart from sadness, the girls knew they had to do something.
Niamh paired up with Lotte and Leah in hopes of figuring something out.
Eventually, after planning something over a coffee, they came up with the perfect plan.
It just so happened that a miracle had happened over the course of the past few days that could change everything.
Emma hayes had officially left, and that came with a variety of different changes.
One morning, when Niamh started banging on your door (a normal occurrence) she opened it to find you sniffling and curled up in a ball, a picture of you and Alessia resting next to you.
Normally, sheâd see you and leave you alone, but this time she didnât.
This time she urged you to get up, taking the picture and putting it on your end side table, helping you get out of bed.
âWeâre going out today.â Niamh told you and before you could fight back, she cut you off. âThereâs no saying no today, okay?â
âFine.â You mumbled, wiping sleep away from your eyes.
What you didnât know was the exact same thing was happening with Alessia and Lotte.
â
After a day full of shopping, looking for the perfect outfit, Niamh spring it upon you that you were going out drinking that night.
Niamh lied saying that it was to take your mind off everything and you believed that, but actually, it was all part of the plan.
Arriving at the bar, you found a booth in the corner, Niamh going to buy the first round of drinks.
After only ten minutes of being there, you looked around to see someone you didnât expect to.
Her blonde hair was down perfectly, the outfit she wore was perfect, Alessia was perfect.
But the face she wore didnât.
A frown was evident on her face along with tear stained cheeks that had been desperately covered by her makeup but was still clear to you.
âNiamhâŠâ
âGo talk to her, Y/N. You both need to talk.â Niamh encouraged you, and you slowly nodded, accepting she was right.
Before you could even stand up, Alessia was making her way over, Lotte clearly encouraging her too.
âCan we talk?â Alessia asked, her voice breaking.
âYeah. Sit down.â You told her, your eyebrows furrowing to try stop you from crying.
In the meantime, Niamh had left the booth, making her way over to Lotte as they took a seat on the other side of the bar, staring hopefully at the encounter between you and Alessia.
âI never wanted to break up.â Alessia announced, her eyes welling up.
âI didnât either.â You told her. âI thought it would be better for us, but the only thing Iâve been able to do these past weeks is cry. It has been so hard without you.â
âI know. Please come back, Iâm so sorry, Y/N. I promise Iâll try harder.â Alessia cried, and you took your hand in hers.
âLess, my trainings changed to the same timing as yours. The new manager has changed it all. We can try again. Weâll be able to spend time with each other.â You told her
âOh my god.â Alessia breathed out, the reality of what could happen settling in. The two of you could actually spend more than an hour a day with each other. âIâm so sorry, love. I wish I tried harder. I wish-â
â-Lessi, itâs okay. Itâs what happens now that is important.â
The two of you learned forward, connecting your lips, emotions from the past weeks being poured into the kiss.
Cheers from Lotte and Niamh could be heard from across the bar and you and Alessia laughed, pulling away from the kiss.
âThey planned this, didnât they?â You asked, still giggling.
âI think so.â
Alessia connected her lips with yours once again.
This time around, there was a sense of hope.
Hope that everything would go perfectly.

MASTERLIST
Summary: in which Harry Styles is the rookie on the football team and he's really lost and Adelaide Heathers is the captain of the volleyball team who's just a little too high-strung
Author's Note: Originally an AU of my Mastermind series, available on Wattpad
Word Count: 13.6k
âąâąâą
A FOOTBALL WAS KICKED STRAIGHT INTO ADDIE'S STOMACH, KNOCKING THE WIND OUT OF HER.
Addie wheezed, clutching her gut as she tried to recover air, but her lungs seemed to disagree with her intent. As she struggled to breathe, she reminisced on the peacefulness she'd been experiencing only a few minutes earlier.
It'd been just like every Tuesday afternoon. Finish school, head straight to the changing rooms and then to Addie's one true home: the volleyball court.
And now she felt like her lungs were collapsing.
The one and only thing Addie absolutely despised about training were the boy's football team training right beside them. It wasn't a rare event to have a football kicked into the sand, especially whenever the season was beginning and the rookies had yet to pass that learning curve.
But goddamn it, Addie was going to rip Captain Tomlinson a new one after getting hit straight in the gut. She'd been caught completely off-guard, and as she was busy showing the new girl how to properly spike the ball, Addie didn't have the time to dodge.
When air finally made its way into Addie's lungs, Tomlinson appeared right in time, wincing as he watched the other girls crowd around their Captain. She'd been leaning against her knees for balance, but when she caught sight of the blue-eyed football captain, she pushed herself up to storm over to him.
Louis Tomlinson, the captain of the football team. Fluffy brown hair, electric blue eyes and a bright smile. He was the kind of guy you took home to meet your parents, with a class clown personality, but kind enough.
His fatal flaw, in Addie's opinion, was being absolutely infuriating. With no adults around, his charm slipped into a sarcastic, more snarky personality.
If he didn't accidentally injure several of Addie's team with his stupid footballs, she might actually like him.
However, at the moment, Addie was pissed at him.
Addie raised her finger, pointing it at Tomlinson's face as he backed away hastily, stumbling over his own feet as he raised his hands in defense. She'd shouted at him enough times about balls getting kicked into their court for him to learn his lesson and know she was dangerous when angry.
"You moron, Tomlinson!" Addie seethed, as the back of his knees hit the bench, and he couldn't back away anymore. "How hard is it to kick the ball inside your huge field?"
Louis shook his head in protest, eyes wide with fear. He was a good ten centimeters taller than her, and he was still just as terrified of her as the rest of the school. "'S not my fault! We got a new player, and- he- he struggles a lil bit."
"A little bit?" Addie prompted, raising an indignant eyebrow. She gestured towards the field. "He kicked it forward, how the fuck did the ball go in the complete opposite direction?"
"I don't fucking know!" Tomlinson shrugged, looking just as bewildered as she was. "I told you he struggles."
"Struggles is an understatement."
Addie glanced at Louis, who seemed to be awaiting permission to move. She huffed, taking a few slow steps away from him.
"Fine, you're off the hook this time, Tomlinson."
Louis sighed, clearly relieved.
Addie rolled her eyes. "You're lucky it was me who got hit. Any of my girls go down because of you, and you're dead. Got it?"
Louis nodded eagerly. "A'ight, I'll tell Styles to watch it."
"Maybe kick him off the team if he's that incompetent," Addie muttered under her breath, crossing her arms as she watched some other boys on the football team start to approach. "Get your boys away from my court, Tomlinson, before I kick their ass."
"Noted," Louis turned around, clearing his throat before whistling, a sharp and loud sound that rang in the air. "Oi lads, back to the field. Move your arse, Oli." As the jersey-clad boys began heading back, Louis turned around and called, "I won't kick him off, just so you know."
"That's a stupid ass decision, just so you know," Addie shouted back.
Louis shrugged, in a 'what-can-you-do?' manner. "The lad's got potential."
Addie rolled her eyes, muttering under her breath, "He can shove that potential up his ass."
Addie pronounced 'ass' in a strange way, some unique hybrid between an American and a British accent. After a year or so of studying in England, she'd picked up a few odd habits of pronouncing certain words with an accent. She hadn't made a full transition, so of course her friends picked on her for pronouncing things 'too American' and then 'too British'.
Turning back around, Addie clapped her hands together to catch her girls' attention. "Alright, let's get back to work."
An hour later, Addie treaded back to her car, sand sticking to her thighs where she'd sweat and then later fallen down, ponytail a mess and in the spare change of clothes she carried in her gym bag. Taking a swig of water, she dug her keys out of her pocket.
Glancing around at the parking lot, she couldn't find her car.
Crap.
She always forgot where she parked her car, and so every afternoon, it was the same tedious game of clicking the buttons on her keys until she eventually located her car.
But just as she started clicking the keys, the universe decided it hated Adelaide Heathers. A small drop of rain trickled onto Addie's cheek. And then another. And another.
And within a few moments, the clouds were unleashing torment upon Addie, and she resorted to using her gym bag as a cover while she ran at top speed towards the roof of the basketball court.
When she finally made it to refuge, she collapsed on the ground, sitting and heaving as she watched sheets of rain fall down. The sound echoed through the basketball court. It was built in a strange way, with a roof covering the court and the bleachers, but with one open wall so that the court was semi-open.
Nevertheless, it was good for rainy seasons like these, in case it started raining in the middle of training, the football and the volleyball teams would huddle in the bleachers as they waited for the storm to pass.
Addie's ratty Spiderman shirt was sticking to her skin from the rain that had managed to get her wet. Once she'd caught her breath after the sudden run, she stood and squeezed the water from her shirt.
A shriek ripped from her throat when she turned and found someone else in the court. Her hand flew to her chest, trying to calm her racing heart.
"Oh my god, you scared me. Jesus, don't be so quiet," Addie groaned, cheeks flushed with embarassment as she spoke, "You're like a ghost."
The boy looked sheepish as he scratched the back of his neck. "Sorry. Didn't mean to scare you."
His hair was a messy array of curls, sticking to his forehead that was dripping with sweat, his nose looked like a bunny's, and his eyes-
Oh god, his eyes.
Addie could've stared at them forever, analyzed every combination needed to unlock that perfect lively green color.
He had the potential to look like a frat boy, but there was something about the nervousness in his smile, and the kindness in his eyes that let you know he wasn't that way. He seemed to be a good person.
And of course he was exactly Addie's type.
"'S alright," Addie waved him off, her mind already racing on all the ways she could get this pretty boy's number, "Who are you?- I mean, I know every single person on the sports team, but I can't recognize you."
He smiled with only one side of his mouth, and the curve of his dimple gleamed like a star. "I'm new. Harry Styles." He offered his hand.
Addie shook it. "Nice to meet you. I'm Adelaide Heathers. Captain of the volleyball team. " Realization then dawned on her. "Shit, you're Styles. You're the guy who hit me in the stomach with that ball!"
The guy with the shittiest kick in the world, Addie thought, but she wasn't nearly rude enough to say it out loud. Or at least to his face.
Harry grimaced. "I'm really sorry about that, by the way."
She liked the slow drawl of his voice. It reeled her in and she couldn't escape even if she wanted to.
And she really didn't want to.
"So you really decided to torment me twice in one day, huh? First a ball in the gut and then scaring the shit out of me," Addie joked, but it seemed Harry took it too seriously.
Harry rushed to say, "I swear I didn't do it on purpose- I mean, you may count the second one on purpose as I didn't announce my presence- but I didn't mean to scare you, I'm really a nice guy- oh shit, I swear I'm not one of those assholes who says they're a nice guy despite obviously not being a nice guy-"
Addie cut him off, "Alright, alright, calm down, Styles." She placed a firm hand on his bicep. "You're alright, I was just kidding around."
Harry sighed in relief. "Okay. That's good."
Addie smiled, endeared by his antics. "So, tell me, Styles-"
"You can call me Harry, by the way," Harry jumped in, cutting her off. She gave him a look. "Just- just so you know."
"Well, Styles, I quite like your last name," Addie smirked, noticing a small smile begin to appear on his lips. She had to admit, it gave her a little power rush to know she flustered him. "Anyways, as I was saying, how come you're here so late?"
Harry said, "Uh, I was waiting for the bus to arrive but it was really late. And then it started to rain. So..."
Addie nodded, humming in approval. She began to take slow, deliberate steps towards the bleachers. She sat down, leaning her elbows against the row behind her and gazing up at the ceiling. Harry followed suit, crossing his arms over his torso.
"What bus do you take?"
"The thirteen."
Addie frowned. "The thirteen made its last stop an hour ago. It passes by at five and that's the last one of the day."
"But-" Harry was aghast. "But training ends at five thirty."
"Yeah."
"Fuck."
Feeling sympathy for the poor boy who looked like a kicked puppy with his eyebrows all scrunched up in worry, Addie asked him, "Where do you live? I'm sure there's another bus that passes by there, or maybe the subway."
"You mean the tube?" Harry prompted, the corner of his lips pulled up into a teasing smile.
Addie scoffed, playfully slapping his arm. "Shut up, you're the only country that calls it that."
"Okay," Harry said, unconvincingly. He was clearly teasing her, and it made her uncomfortable. She was supposed to be the one in control.
Addie took the reins of the conversation, "Alright, so where do you live?"
Harry shook his head. "The thirteen is the only bus that passes near my house, and the tube drops me off too far off. My house is too close for the tube but too far to walk."
"The bus is your only shot, damn," Addie cursed, "Well, I've got a car, and I can give you a ride home if you want."
"Wait, really?" Harry sat up. "You sure?"
"Yeah, why not?" Addie shrugged. "Just let the rain ease up and we can go."
"You're an angel, Heathers. A lifesaver."
Addie bit her lip to suppress her grin. "It's no big deal."
The cutest guy ever just called me an angel, Addie thought, and she knew she must be blushing.
When the rain finally died down, they ran to Addie's car, getting a little lost along the way, but managing to make it semi-dry.
Laughing at their idiocies, Addie turned the car on and pulled out of the school parking lot. Harry made small talk, asking her about her American accent.
"I'm actually from Mexico," Addie said with a small chuckle. Harry raised his eyebrows, and she explained, "Since the US is right there beside Mexico, I learned to speak English with an American accent. Then, a year ago, my mom and I moved here to London, and I started at this school."
After her parents' divorce, everything had crumbled. She'd been holding on by a thread, and that thread was this school, this city and these people. A fresh start where no one knew her as the weird kid, or the geek, or that girl in the pictures in seventh grade.
Sure, she was still top of her class, and people were terrified to be around her because of her reputation for a sharp tongue and a cold stare. But she had friends who could see beyond that mask she wore, she had found volleyball, and she found her place in this world.
Thing were okay here.
Maybe not at home, but at her school. At work, and here in the car with this new kid.
"What about you? You new?"
Harry nodded, drumming his fingers against the car handle. "Yeah, transferred this year, and somehow got into the football team?" He turned to look at her. "Quick question, just how low are the standards? I mean, I got in, so I'm guessing it's less a bar and more like a pit in the ground?"
Addie laughed, grinning despite her promise to keep her cool around him. But there was something about his warmth that made her drop her defenses. "Their standards are pretty high. Tomlinson's a ruthless captain, so watch out for him. But he's got trust in you, says you got potential." She stopped at the red light and turned to look him in the eyes. "Tomlinson's a pain in my ass, but he's also got a good eye for players. If he lets you on his team, it's for good reason."
The light turned green, and Addie started driving again.
"Thanks."
"Just stating the facts. Maybe learn to kick the ball the right way, though."
"Aye, aye, cap'n." Harry saluted her, making her crack up.
Addie faked indignation, "Don't distract me, I'm driving!"
Harry gasped, following along with her joke. "I'm sorry. I'll stop being so hilarious. Oh wait, I'm always hilarious."
"You're an idiot, that's what you are."
Harry smiled.
Mark her words, someday, Harry Styles would be Adelaide Heathers' idiot.
---
"Does it really not bother your parents that you drive me home every day?" Harry commented after three weeks straight of Addie giving him a ride. "I mean, you must get home late, right?"
Every day after training, Addie would pick up the things they'd used, get changed, and make her way to the car. She'd find Harry walking on the street, and honked her horn until he finally gave up and let her drive him home.
After a week, he started helping her pick up after volleyball practice, saying it was the least he could do for all the trouble he put her through. She began letting him. It was just picking up a couple of cones and packing up the net.
Now, she'd gotten used to it, to having him help her while he chattered on about his day. If it were anyone else, she would've stayed in comfortable silence, but he always seemed to pull a conversation out of her. And every time he talked about his day, she listened intently, until he asked a question that forced her to open up a bit.
After picking up, they'd get changed in their separate locker rooms. Somehow, he always took half the time she did and would wait outside the door for her. Always had his curls damp because he'd squeeze water into them to make them curl again after messing them up during practice. And with that puppy-like grin on his lips.
Addie shrugged. "Nah, it's just my mom and me. Dad and sister are back in Mexico, and since my mom works most of the time, she doesn't really notice I'm gone." She chuckled to herself. "Guess being a workaholic just runs in the family."
It wasn't uncommon for parents to be absent because of long work hours. It wasn't like Addie's mom couldn't afford to cut back her hours. Even if her mom only worked part-time, with her salary, they could have a great life.
But, like Addie said, being a workaholic was in their genes. Addie supposed that was the reason she was so focused on school and volleyball and work. She was addicted to being busy. To praise for her achievements and her work ethic. That was how her entire family was wired. That was how she'd been raised.
Harry's eyebrows knitted together in that way they did when he was deep in thought. "Well, if your mom won't mind, why don't you stay tonight for dinner?"
Addie's face slackened in shock. She turned her entire head to look at Harry before remembering she was supposed to be driving. She adjusted her hands on the steering wheel and cleared her throat. "Um... I mean, are you sure? You don't have to.â
Addie didn't want his pity or his fake niceties. She wanted him to truly want her. Maybe want her for more than just a casual dinner with his family. More than just that one friend who drove him home every afternoon.
Harry smiled, placing his hand over Addie's hand. She tightened her clutch on the driving stick as she felt the unfamiliar feeling of someone else's skin on hers. It only took a few moments for her to relax under the comforting warmth of his hand. "I want you there."
Pulling his hand back, Harry sat back, looking straight ahead.
Meanwhile, a million thoughts were whirring through Addie's head as she tried to understand what his hand on hers in this enclosed space meant. What did it mean?
Was Harry feeling the butterflies swarming his stomach the way she was? Or was she alone in her rose-flushed cheeks and thoughts of jumping and falling for someone who might not catch her?
Addie stayed at Harry's for dinner that night. She met his sister, who was studying at a college on the other side of the city, and his parents who were the sweetest people she'd ever met. It was no wonder Harry had turned out so amazing when he'd grown up in this family.
There were no sharp comments, no subtle comments to dig under skin, just teasing banter and sibling loving each other. Harry looked at his sister with such admiration, Addie felt a small pang of jealousy. His parents listened intently as he talked passionately about his day at school.
And when they turned to get to know Addie better, their words were kind and understanding. It started with the simple questions about her parents and their work. And then they asked, "So, why do you like our Harry?"
"Is it a pity thing?" Gemma joked, hiding her smile behind a roll of bread. That was another thing Addie hadn't experienced in years. Carbs at a meal.
When Addie started getting into sports, her mom stopped buying bread, saying "You need to stay in shape. Imagine being captain of the volleyball team and being overweight" (She hadn't even been promoted to captain yet, but her mom assured her that she would get the position one way or another).
Addie was hesitant to grab bread, but it'd been so long and it tasted so good slathered in butter and dipped in the creamy tomato soup.
Snickering, Addie nudged Harry with her shoulder. "I guess he's decent. He did throw a ball at my stomach the first time we met."
Harry's Mom, Anne made a sound of shock. "Harry, you did what!?"
His eyes widened with alarm. "It was an accident! I swear-!"
"Harry, I swear to god, you make such bad first impressions," Anne chided him, shaking her head in bewilderment. "Did you apologize?"
"Yes, Mom."
When dinner was over, they helped clean up and then Harry took her to his room, showing her around his house.
Harry showed her his small collection of CD's, blushing when she teased him for the obscene amount of Fleetwood Mac and Stevie Nicks.
"I have Rumors on vinyl," Addie said as she scanned the CD, noting the small crack at the edge of the plastic case.
Harry's eyes widened. "Seriously?"
"Yeah. It was a gift from my dad." The last gift he gave her before she left for London. They'd sat down in the living room, next to the dozen of packed boxes, put the vinyl on and skipped to 'The Chain'. He'd held her hand and squeezed it, promising he would visit as soon as he could.
It'd been eighteen months and he hadn't visited even once. Calls were rare and short. Texts were a little more frequent, but still scarce.
Addie looked up, setting the CD down back onto its shelf, and wandering around the rest of the room, hands in her pockets. "You should come over sometime. I'll play it."
Harry's eyes lit up with excitement. "Yeah!" He exclaimed. And then he seemed to realize how eager he sounded, and cleared his throat, saying in a more laidback tone, "Yeah. I guess that'd be cool."
Pretending to look at the poster above his bed, Addie tried to hide her stupidly huge grin.
Harry had stars, those glow in the dark stars that every kid wanted in their room. The only lighting in the room was his desk light, so she could see a bit of the glow in the stars. They were randomly placed on the ceiling.
Even if they were real stars, she doubted any of them would shine as bright as Harryâs eyes as he met her gaze. His cheeks flushed a light pink, lips curved in a nervous smile.
Addieâs breath caught in her throat. She could reach out and graze the softness of his lips or the curve of his nose. He looked so soft in the absolute best way possible. Soft like the petal of a rose. Soft like the first stream of sunlight through the window.
The spell of the moment was broken by the door being shoved open. It made a loud sound as it hit the wall.
Both Harry and Addie jumped, startled. Standing in the doorway was Harry's dad, Robin. "Keep the door open at all times, Haz." He glanced between the two teenagers, who looked equally embarrassed despite standing quite far apart. And only being friends. "Have fun."
Once Robin was gone, Harry groaned and dropped his face into his hands. "I'm sorry. My parents are embarrassing."
Shaking her head, Addie laughed. "No, I think your parents are really cool." She smiled softly, sitting down on the gray blanket of Harry's bed. He sat down beside her. "They really care about you. You're lucky to have parents like them."
Harry's gaze softened. "They are pretty great."
Addie would kill to have parents like Harry's. Caring and nurturing, who actually gave a shit about their kids.
Clearing her throat, Addie stood up. "This was great, but I should get back soon. School night and everything."
A pang of disappointment shot through her chest as she remembered she had to go. There was a very stupid part of her that really wanted to stay with Harry forever. A very stupid and foolish part of her. The same part that felt butterflies each time her eyes met his and drove him home every afternoon just to get a few minutes with him.
Addie waved goodbye to Harry's parents, thanking them for dinner as she walked past their room. Harry walked her to her car, where he then hugged her and hesitated before placing a swift kiss to her cheek.
They both tried to play it cool, even though the two were flushed tomato red, and Addie stumbled as she got into her car.
The entire drive home, her cheek tingled where she'd been kissed. And if her fingers wandered over the lingering warmth, and her mind ran with thoughts of where this could lead, well... that was just for her to know.
---
Addie lost the match.
The first match of the season, and they'd been beaten by a landslide. It was absolutely pathetic how they'd barely gotten any scores in. The match was so clearly dominated by the opposing team, it was actually sad. But most of all, it made her realize just how shitty of a captain she was.
She wasn't made for leadership. All she had was her own strength, but she didn't have enough to keep everyone else moving.
When they got to their locker rooms, it was dead silent as they took turns in the showers. No one wanted to speak, afraid it would only make the moment real.
But it was when Lexi started sniffling, and Alice turned to hug her that Addie couldn't take the silence anymore.
"It's okay," Alice murmured to Lexi.
Lexi shook her head. "I'm the one who didn't hit that final ball. It's my fault."
"Lexi," Addie spoke. Everyone turned to look at her. All eyes were on her. This could make or break the moment. "We're a team, alright? One of us lose, all of us lose. And it's okay to fail sometimes, that just means we gotta work harder." She got to her feet, sitting beside Lexi and pulling her into her side. The younger girl clung to Addie, searching for some comfort. "We lost a match, but it's the first one of the season, we're still learning how to work together and that's okay. Now we know what we need to work on, and we'll do better next time."
"I'm sorry," Lexi sniffled. "I tried my best, I swear."
Addie's heart ached as she watched the girl cry. "It's okay. I know."
By the time the locker room emptied, Addie was the only one left. She always made sure to be the last one to leave, just to make sure the rest of her team were okay.
She cried in the shower, totally alone in her sorrows as she only had herself to blame. Maybe the whole team had lost, but she was the leader. Addie was the one who was supposed to steer them to victory, not to this.
This had been Addie's shot to prove herself, and she'd thrown it in the trash and set it on fire.
Addie locked up the locker room, and made her way to the parking lot, digging through her bag for the keys.
She found someone leaning on the hood of her car. Curly hair swept back as he leaned his head back, closing his eyes, breathing in the fall air.
Addie clicked the car keys, and the car made a sound, startling Harry. He jumped, stumbling forward and barely catching himself before he fell face-first onto the asphalt.
She snickered at his reaction, pushing past him to place her gym bag in the backseat of her car. "Hey, Styles."
Harry leaned forward, giving her a hug and a kiss on the cheek. He'd made it a tradition to always greet her that way. "Hi, Heathers."
Addie tried not to blush and failed spectacularly. "You looking for a ride?"
"You offering one?"
Addie shrugged, gesturing with her head. "Door's open." Harry got into the car eagerly, already buckling his seatbelt by the time she was barely sitting down.
Addie buckled her seatbelt and placed the keys in the engine-
"How'd the match go?"
Something inside of Addie snapped, and for the second time that day, tears began to spill down her cheeks. She sniffled, trying to wipe the tears away before he could notice, but it was too late.
Harry leaned forward, grasping her face with his hand, gently turning her towards him. "Love, are you okay?"
Addie squeezed her eyes shut, wishing she would stop crying. Harry probably thought she was embarrassing. She couldn't keep it together for even a few minutes. That was certainly embarrassing. All he wanted was a ride home, he certainly didn't need to see her tears.
"Ads? You can talk to me," Harry said, his voice ever so gentle, as if she were so fragile he could break her with just a few words. "Love?"
Addie opened her eyes, allowing him to see the tears swimming, the hurt hidden behind her amber eyes. "We lost. I fucked it up. I fucked it all up."
A strangled sob escaped her throat despite her best attempt to choke it back. Harry shushed her, leaning forward, the brake digging into his gut, but he endured the pain just so he could hug her.
And despite everything that had been ingrained in Addie's mind for so long- that crying was showing weakness, and weakness meant shame, and shame was the worst crime of all-
Addie took his comfort. She clung to it like a lifeline, because she was drowning and Harry was her lifejacket.
This was all she had ever needed all along.
Because even now, when she felt so incredibly low and pathetic, she didn't feel alone. Addie didn't feel alone, instead she felt a hope creeping into her life the way a candlelight slowly lights in a dark room.
"You didn't fuck up," Harry murmured into her ear, holding her tighter. Addie closed her eyes, bathing in the warmth of his touch. "You didn't, okay? You're amazing, and smart and so dedicated and maybe you lost this time- but you're goddamn Adelaide Heathers, and when you fall down, you get back up."
Addie weakly asked, "And if I can't get back up?"
"You will." There was no doubt in Harry's voice as he spoke. "Maybe you'll struggle a little, but you'll get back up. You always do. And you know that I'm always there to help you up."
"I don't feel like getting back up anymore," Addie protested, pulling away from Harry's hug with regret. She was bitter as she cried, "I keep getting kicked down and getting back up and I'm so sick and tired of it, and I just-" Her breath was shaky as she inhaled -"I just want to give up already."
Harry placed a gentle hand on her arm, a soft reassurance that he was there. "You can stay down a little while, but you'll get back up again. That's just how you're wired."
"I don't know if that's true anymore."
"Well, I know it's true," Harry defended, not aggressive but more insistent as he said, "Because I know you. And you trust me, right? So you can trust me when I say that you'll get back up. And even if you don't, then I'll be there anyways."
Addie sniffled, quickly wiping her tears away. "You're a really great person, Haz. Have I told you I'm really glad I have you in my life?"
Harry shook his head with a light chuckle. "No, but it's good to know."
"I mean it," Addie insisted, her voice still thick with tears. "I don't know where I'd be without you. Thanks for kicking that ball into my stomach."
Harry threw his head back laughing. The sound rang through the air like the chiming of bells, making Addie feel like she was on a cloud knowing she'd made Harry laugh. She had made him happy, even if only for a few seconds.
Once Harry's laughter had settled down, he turned his head to look at her. Something clouded his eyes, like a lavender haze falling over them.
His voice dropped an octave as he said, "I really like you, Adelaide Heathers."
"You're not half-bad yourself, Harry Styles," she whispered back, eyes flickering down to his lips.
She wasn't sure if it was her imagination or if Harry was leaning forward just a few inches, about to meet her halfway. And there was a yearning to crash her lips against his and take what she'd wanted all this time.
And then her phone rang.
Their bubble burst just like that, and Addie could recognize the ringtone. She answered, "Yeah?"
"Adelaide," her mom warned her, "You greet people with 'hello' not 'yeah'."
"Sorry, Mom," Addie said, pinching the bridge of her nose. "What's up?"
"Why aren't you home yet?"
"I told you I was having dinner at Harry's tonight," Addie said, frowning in confusion. She looked over at Harry, who was looking at her for an explanation. She simply shrugged, as confused as he was.
Mom scoffed. "I didn't say you could go."
"Yeah, you did, Mom," Addie reminded her, "You told me yesterday morning it was fine. I told you I had my match and then after, I was heading to Harry's for dinner."
"You had a match today?"
"Yeah, I did."
"Don't use that tone with me," Mom snapped at her. Yeah, well, you missed my match, so get off your high horse, bitch, Addie thought bitterly. "Did you win?"
"No, we didn't."
"I'm disappointed in you, Addie. I thought you would do better."
Addie was ready to snap. Not only did her mother miss her match, but she had the audacity to then be disappointed in Addie?
Then again, her mom's words hit her like a punch in the gut. Even her mom thought she'd win. How many people had she let down today?
"Look, I'm headed to Harry's, I'll be back before curfew."
"I want you home at nine."
"Mom, it's seven-"
"Nine."
"Fine."
Addie hung up the phone and turned it on silent, knowing her mom would try and call her back just to tell her off. "Can I stay until midnight tonight?"
"I thought your curfew was eleven," Harry said, trying to piece together Addie's interaction with her mother.
"It is."
Harry waited for an explanation until he realized none was coming and nodded. "Stay however long you want to."
Addie got home at one am, by which time her mom was passed out on the couch, a glass of sugar-free lemonade beside her. She walked past her and headed to her room.
And that night, she dreamt of sitting in a car and no stupid phones interrupting a kiss with Harry. She dreamt of holding his hand and kissing him like he belonged to her.
The next morning, Addie was numb to her mom's yelling and didn't even give a shit when she was grounded. Addie realized she didn't really give much of a shit when it came to her mom. Not anymore.
She was fed up.
---
Addie whistled, "Horan! Come over here, you idiot!"
Niall whipped his head around, blue eyes sparkling with glee as he caught sight of the younger girl. "Heathers!" He ran towards her, hugging her tightly as she returned the embrace with matching eagerness. "How have you been, love?"
"I've been good, babe," Addie answered with ease, used to the friendly flirting with Niall. They pulled back from the hug. "What about you? You're the one who disappeared for two months, you dick." She punched him in the arm.
"Okay, first off, ouch. Second, it was actually really good?" Niall answered, slinging his arm around her shoulder and leading her towards the bench on the edge of the field. "I was worried 'cause 's been a while since I've visited my fam, right? But it was nice."
He was wearing his football uniform, and the scratchy fabric of the jersey infuriated Addie, but after last year of near-constant physical contact with Niall, she'd gotten used to it for the most part.
They ended up sitting down on the bench, chatting while Addie slung her legs over Niall's, always maintaining some kind of physical contact. She needed it after he'd gone away for two months to Ireland to be with his family.
Louis arrived fifteen minutes later, looking slightly disgruntled with his hair a mess and the front of his jersey dripping wet and spreading to his shorts. Addie took him in, raising an eyebrow at the water that didn't seem to have spread to the back.
"Niall, aren't you supposed to be warming up?" Louis grumbled, running a hand through his hair as he tried to fix the disheveled mess. "And Heathers, don't you have a training to lead?"
"Don't you know how to drink water?" Addie retorted, looking him up and down.
Louis scoffed. "It was your stupid boyfriend that did this to me. Got distracted looking at this-" He gestured towards their intertwined legs -"And spilled a whole fucking shit bottle of water on me. Grabbed my arm in a fucking vice too. Pretty sure I'mma get bruises from the fucking thing."
Louis' swearing filter was removed whenever he was faced with the smallest of annoyances.
"Boyfriend?" Niall sat up, staring at Addie. "Fifteen minutes talking shit and you didn't mention a boyfriend?" He then turned to look at Louis. "Our little Heather has grown up and gotten a boyfriend at long last?"
Addie flicked Niall in his forehead, where the dark roots were beginning to grow below the bleach blond. "Asshole. Both of you. No, I don't have a boyfriend. Louis' just being a little shit."
Both of the boys looked unconvinced. Louis rolled his eyes. "Sure, he's not your boyfriend. You just look at each other with lovey-dovey eyes, and you drive him home after training every day, and he walks to the other side of the school just to be with you for ten minutes during break. He's not your boyfriend."
Addie groaned. "Goddamn it Tomlinson, he's not my boyfriend and he's not interested in me!" Louis and Addie had had this conversation a million times before. It was infuriating that he kept insisting that Harry was interested in her. This crush was not a mutual thing.
"Have you ever hung out with him outside of school?" Niall asked.
Addie made a sound. "I mean... not really. I just stay for dinner a couple times a week."
"What?" Louis shrieked, this being new information for him. "Why didn't you tell me that part?"
"'S not important."
"You've known each other for two months and you're already having dinner with his family?"
"It's not like that!"
Addie knew it was because Anne knew more about her family situation than Harry. She was always the one who insisted that Addie stay over for dinner and talked to her and cared for her.
In the last five weeks or so, Anne had done more parenting towards Addie than her own mother had done in the last two years.
"You know damn well that boy is head over heels for you," Louis said, making a tsk sound with his tongue. "Mark my words, Adelaide Heathers and Harry Styles are going to date someday."
Driving Harry home that afternoon was a quiet ordeal. They had their routine down to a T, and it seemed neither of them were in a particularly talkative mood.
Addie wasn't sure what was going on with Harry, but she was dealing with the fact that she had a huge crush on him and couldn't get him out of her head despite knowing he wasn't interested either. Plus her grades had been slipping lately and her average had dropped from a perfect 10 to a pretty good 9, but it was sure to result in another fight with her mom. And training had been a disaster, everyone was off their game and tournaments started in two weeks.
Everything that could go wrong had gone wrong that day. Addie didn't want to take it out on Harry, and she didn't need him to know she was struggling and weak. So she stayed quiet, to avoid questions.
But then five minutes passed and Harry asked, "Who was that guy you were with earlier?"
Addie frowned. "Who? The blond guy?"
"Yeah," Harry muttered. Something about his demeanor was off. He was too closed off, filled with unnecessary tension. "Is he your boyfriend?"
Addie laughed. "No, he's not my boyfriend. His name is Niall, and he's a really good friend of mine." She snickered to herself. "I spent all of last year battling rumors that he and I were dating, but we're just friends."
"You sure?"
"Yeah." Addie cleared her throat. "Niall's amazing. And we've always had this dynamic of flirting with each other, but he's just a friend. He... he was the first person to ever talk to me when I got here. Without him, I probably never would've talked to anyone. Today was the first time I saw him since summer break, so I was happy to see him."
"He's on the football team," Harry prompted. He was almost reluctant as he admitted, "Seems like a nice guy."
"He is. He really is," Addie answered immediately, quick to praise her friend. "Last year, he was basically my best friend, so I ended up hanging out with the football team a lot. Now that he's back, I'm willing to bet he's going to start dragging me along to a lot of things, so get ready for me to annoy you a lot more."
A weak smile began to appear on Harry's lips. "You could never annoy me."
"Yeah well, you'll get sick of me eventually. Tomlinson hated me the first couple of months, but he was outvoted by everyone else who wanted me to stick around. He eventually tolerated me," Addie chuckled. "He's not a close friend, but we're on good terms now. I think he just hated that no one liked his girlfriend Eleanor but everyone liked me."
"I thought you said you weren't Niall's girlfriend," Harry snapped, his voice brisk and cold.
Addie felt a small pang of annoyance. She was hanging on by a thread and her patience was running thin. "Yeah. I'm not."
"So why would you compare yourself to Louis' girlfriend?"
"Because everyone else did. I wasn't Niall's girlfriend, but I was basically his date." Addie clenched the steering wheel, reminding herself Harry wasn't the one annoying her. She couldn't take her anger out on an innocent.
Harry scowled. "Yeah, right."
"The fuck's your problem, man?" Addie snapped at him, finally having enough. "You're pissed I have a best friend? That's pretty fucking jealous of you, don't you think?"
"No, I just think it's ridiculous how you lead me on for two months and then your boyfriend shows up," Harry seethed, crossing his arms and looking out the window. "Real fucking nice that feels."
"He's not my boyfriend!" Addie exclaimed.
She tried to laugh it off, but it had been so annoying to try and date guys only to have them warded off by her best friend. If her boyfriend felt uncomfortable about her closeness with Niall, she'd set boundaries. But no one wanted fucking communication.
Harry rolled his eyes. "Yeah, I'm sure."
Addie growled in frustration, feeling a bubbling rage underneath her skin, and she needed to get it out. So she pulled into Harry's driveway and snapped at him, "Get the fuck out, you jackass!"
"Gladly, you prick," Harry retorted, grabbing his gym bag and slamming the door.
"Don't slam my fucking door!" Addie shouted, rolling the window down. She was glad Harry's parents wouldn't be home to hear this.
Harry whirled around, voice dripping with venom. "You didn't even pay for the fucking car. Your mommy gave it to you to make up for the fact that she doesn't give two shits about you!"
Ouch.
That one dug deep into her heart.
Because it was true.
"It's better than being an insane jealous asshole like you, who's always so obsessed with me!" Addie yelled. "I bet Tomlinson only put you on the team because he felt sorry for how fucking pathetic you are."
Addie knew that would strike a nerve. Deep down, Harry was an insecure person who was always worried about his worth. And there was a part of Harry that truly thought he didn't deserve his place on the team.
"Yeah? Well, everyone thinks you're a cold, narcissistic bitch who doesn't give a shit about her friends and just nitpicks and criticizes everything she can!" Harry yelled, knowing every word would dig deep into her intrinsic insecurities the same way she had.
"Well, this narcissistic bitch is telling you to get a new fucking ride!" Addie shouted, noticing Harry's blue plastic bottle still in the passenger seat and throwing it through the window, hitting him in the arm.
Addie pulled out of the driveway, vision swimming with tears. She managed to stay in one piece until she got home and hid in her bedroom, collapsing into tears.
Addie cried herself to sleep that night.
---
"Hi, Mrs. Horan," Addie smiled as she opened the door. She tugged her sleeves down, fiddling with them in her palms.
Mrs. Horan smiled back at Addie. "Hi, Addie, honey. Niall's down in the basement with the other boys."
"Thank you," Addie made her way through the hallway and down the stairs of the basement. There was one step near the bottom that was creaky and felt like it might break at any moment, so she usually just skipped the last few steps and jumped down onto the floor.
The sound of her landing alarmed the other boys to her presence. Niall leaned over the back of the couch. "Babe, you're here!"
"Honey, I'm home!" Addie said in a sing-song voice as she approached Niall, hugged him, and gave him a kiss on the cheek. She then threw herself onto the armchair beside him, kicking her legs over the armrest as she watched the other boys playing FIFA. "God, I forgot how much you suck at FIFA, Tomlinson."
"Shut up," Louis muttered under his breath, sitting on the edge of the couch as he lost miserably to Liam.
"Oof, that's gotta be embarassing," Addie winced in mockery as Louis lost. He looked over to her and gave her a dirty look. In turn, she smiled innocently. And then noticed the raven-haired boy beside Louis. "Hey, Zayn."
Zayn smiled. He had this really warm and kind smile that made you feel like you were at home. "Addie."
Zayn played defense on the football team, while Niall was midfielder and Louis was forward. And then there was the final one of the bunch, Liam, who was the goalkeeper.
Against her will, Addie had learned most of football terminology last year because she'd hung out with these four boys a lot. She'd gone to every match she could, and would never admit it, but actually got invested in the game.
"Hi, Payne," Addie smiled at him. He waved back as he passed the control to Zayn.
Niall caught Addie's attention with the wave of the control. "You want in?"
"Nah, I'm shit at FIFA, you know that," Addie shook her head. "I'll watch." She'd always sucked at video games for the most part, but whenever they played Street Fighter or Mario Kart, she kicked everyone's ass. So, she usually stuck to just watching them play and insulting them as if she wasn't ten times worse than them.
Then, when Louis and Zayn took a smoke break, going upstairs to Niall's room to stick their heads out the windows like dogs so Niall's parents didn't catch them, Addie transferred to the couch, sitting down next to Liam for a change.
Once Liam won his round, he passed the control to Addie, giving her advice and tips on how to be better. She didn't win the round, but it was the closest she'd gotten to being half-decent.
"Not half-bad," Liam mused, giving her a reassuring smile. "You've got potential, Heathers."
"And that potential will remain unfulfilled," Addie insisted, passing Liam the control.
Liam twisted his body around, turning to look at her properly. "Hey, tell me something."
"Something."
Liam nudged her with his shoulder. "What happened between you and Louis? You two used to be like this," he twisted two fingers together, "And now you barely even talk."
Addie sighed, sitting back and crossing her arms. She looked to Niall for help, who shrugged and gave her a look that told her she needed to tell Liam.
"Look, during summer break, there was this one beach trip we took. It was Louis with Eleanor and me with Niall," Addie began to explain. "Eleanor mentioned she wanted a spot on the team. She thought I could help her out, and she thought that just because we were friends, I would give her the spot. I told her we should play a match and then we'll see."
Addie recounted the rest of the afternoon. They'd played the game, and at the end, Addie had been disappointed in Eleanor. She'd refused to give her the spot. Eleanor was furious. She snapped at Addie, calling her an incompetent captain and making unsupported claims that she was doing this just to lord her power over Eleanor.
"My cat plays better than you do," Addie had snapped at Eleanor. Granted, the comment had been unnecessary, but Eleanor was being a dick about the whole situation.
It was then that Louis and Niall appeared, and they both had stepped in to calm the girls down.
Addie had made the offer to give Eleanor personal training once a week, and said, "You can take volleyball lessons all you want this year, but you're not making the team. Get some actual practice in and then we'll talk. But right now, you're incompetent and your play is lousy."
Louis had defended Eleanor. Addie was pissed at both of them, and Niall was stuck in the middle as a mediator.
"Louis took Eleanor's side, said I was out of line with my comments," Addie huffed to Liam. "But she assumed I would give her the spot just because we were friends when she's a shit player! I let her down nicely, told her to work on her game and maybe she'd make the team next year. But then she called me incompetent and a dick."
"She was way out of line," Liam agreed. "If she doesn't make the team, it's because there's a better player who deserved the spot more, and just because you're friends, doesn't entitle her to that spot."
"Exactly!" Addie exclaimed, getting frustrated once again with the situation. "And even now that they've broken up, Louis refuses to apologize. I know I have nothing to apologize for. I stood my ground and I spoke the truth and Eleanor was the one who was out of line."
The door to the basement opened and the thuds of footsteps along the stairs rang through the room. Addie pursed her lips, sitting back on the couch as Liam and Niall began another round.
Louis sat down on the arm of the couch, a few inches from brushing shoulders with Addie. "What'd I miss, lads?"
Addie sat up. "I'm going to get some water."
Liam glanced at her furtively, and then at Louis. Addie shook her head, silently asking him to keep it under wraps.
Addie headed upstairs, grabbing a water bottle from the fridge and then going back down.
"-Styles has been off his game lately," Louis said, ranting to Liam whose eyes were stuck to the screen. "He's got potential and he was doing good, but if he keeps going like this, I'm worried I'll have to bench him."
Addie had gone stiff at the mention of Harry's name, reminded of the last two weeks of dead silence and cold shoulders in the hallways of school. Every car ride home from training seemed too short, too silent without the comforting chatter of Harry's slow drawl.
Instead of home cooked dinners with Harry's family, she had to settle for microwaving week-old leftovers alone in her room.
Addie couldn't help it. She needed to know about Harry and most of all, she felt concern for him. Football had become so important for him. He loved it.
"You're going to make Styles a reserve?" Addie prompted, taking a swig of water as she sat down.
Louis made a face and nodded. "I don't wanna. I know he can do it, but he's just- I dunno."
Addie frowned. "I thought things were going well."
"Yeah, but he hasn't been pulling his weight lately. And our first game is next week, I can't have any dead weight. Nothing against him, he's just not been the best player lately."
"I get it," Addie prompted, "No matter the personal relationship you have with a person, you gotta think about the team. I'm captain, I know how this goes." She gave Louis a look. "But I guess it only really counts when it's your team we're talking 'bout, right?"
Louis finally processed what Addie was implying, and his expression switched immediately. "Jesus, Heathers, seriously? Get over yourself."
He stood up, taking a seat on the opposite side of the couch.
That was always the problem with Addie and Louis. Both of them had huge prides and were equally stubborn.
But goddamn it, Addie was sick and tired of all of her friends being stubborn assholes. First Harry, and now Louis?
"Lou," Liam warned, a sharp edge to his voice. He looked like an adorable puppy most of the time, but when it came to his friends, he would do anything to protect him. Which sometimes meant putting on an intimidating facade.
Louis glanced at Liam. "What?"
Liam gave him a look, but Louis simply rolled his eyes.
Niall then stepped in, deciding to change the subject. Somehow he was always the peace negotiator in Addie's life. She should find a way to thank him. "So, Addie, speaking of Harry, have you talked to him?"
"Talked to him?" Zayn echoed, looking confused at what Niall said.
"After their fight," Niall stated, seemingly confused that they didn't know what he was saying.
Addie immediately snapped, "Niall." She didn't need her dirty laundry aired out for everyone to see.
He seemed to realize he was the only one who knew about Addie and Harry's fight. "Oh. Oops?"
Sighing, Addie hid her face in her hands. These boys were the most troublesome people she knew, and she just knew they were going to stick their nose in her business.
Liam asked, "You and Harry had a fight?"
"When?" Zayn asked.
"Who started it?" Liam prompted.
"Okay, stop," Addie threatened them, giving them a sharp glare. She inhaled deeply, and sat up. "'Bout two weeks ago, Harry and I had a bit of an argument-" Zayn paused their game. "Seriously?" He shrugged, and Addie rolled her eyes.
She continued, "I'm not even sure what the fight was about. It started when he made the assumption that Niall was my boyfriend. I explained to him that we were friends, and it was a mistake most people made."
None of them were fazed by this information. They were the ones who had spent most of last year being asked whether Niall and Addie were together, and always were the first ones to deny the rumors that spread.
"I don't know, at some point I made some comment that I guess pissed him off. He said I had been leading him on for weeks only for my boyfriend now to show up, I said he wasn't my boyfriend, he said 'sure' in the most passive fucking aggressive way possible. I told him to get the fuck out of my car, so he did but he slammed the door so I got pissed at him and that's when it really went off the rails."
"What'd you say?" Liam asked, gaze softened with sympathy as he listened to her story.
Addie scratched the back of her neck, looking at the floor. "He said..." her voice was just above a whisper, barely loud enough for them to hear, "He said 'you didn't even pay for the car. Your mom just bought it for you to make up for how shitty she is."
Liam's face dropped as the realization of the statement settled in. All of them had learned the hard way what Addie's mom was like.
"So I told him he was an insecure jealous asshole. And that Tomlinson only gave him the spot because he felt sorry for him," Addie confessed, guilty as sin as she did. "He told me that everyone thought I was- and I quote, 'a cold, narcissistic bitch who doesn't give a shit about her friends and just nitpicks and criticizes everything she can'".
"The fuck?" Louis exclaimed. Addie's eyes looked up from where they'd been stuck to wooden floorboards, to find that Louis' face was filled with outrage. "That little shit didn't say that to you."
Addie's face went cold. "Look, it's not important, alright?"
"Addie, he called you a bitch."
"He said everyone thought I was a bitch."
"Same difference-"
"Don't act as if you're so high and mighty," Addie snapped at Louis, finally sick and tired of him. "Harry's not the only one who's treated me like shit lately."
"That's different," Louis defended, sitting up. On instinct, Addie sat up too, glaring at him even if he was slightly taller than her. Meanwhile, Zayn and Liam watched the two argue with equally shocked faces.
"How is it different?"
"Because you're the one who's too stubborn to admit you were being a jackass!"
"Eleanor was a shit player and you know it!" Addie seethed, taking a step closer to him. Her anger was beginning to bubble over and become something uncontrollable.
Louis argued, "That doesn't mean you could call her a moronic bitch!"
"Wait, you did what?" Liam exclaimed at the same time Zayn said, "You called her what?"
"I only called her a bitch because she deserved it!" Addie shouted back, "She called me a dirty skank, and if you'd given one damn about me, I would've told you that. But you decided to side with your lying, conniving girlfriend who- suprise surprise!- is now your ex." She could feel the tears falling freely down her cheeks. She always cried when she was angry. "I thought you were family! I called you my fucking brother and you didn't even hear my side of the story before deciding I wasn't- before cutting me out of your life."
Embarrassment crawled under Addie's skin as she realized the huge argument she'd just had in front the other three. She sniffled, quickly wiping her tears away.
Addie scrambled to grab her coat and keys, leaving a shocked Louis to simply stare at the space she'd once occupied. Protests came from the other boys, most noticeably Niall, who was beginning to get up, "Addie!"
She ignored them all and ran up the stairs, not even bothering to say goodbye to Mrs. Horan as she rushed to her car. She wiped the tears out of her eyes, and clicked the button to unlock her car-
A pair of firm hands grabbed her, turning her around. Addie yelped, and Louis let his grip go slack. "Did she really call you that?"
Addie shrugged. "Everyone loves to slut-shame, right?"
It was easy to act as if it was no big deal that everyone said that about her. Addie had spent her whole life pretending not to care about other people's opinions. It was second nature at this point.
But Louis saw through that cheap mask. "She shouldn't have said that. I shouldn't have sided with her." His voice broke, and just a small piece of fragility broke through, "I called you my sister too."
Addie couldn't help it. She yearned for family, for belonging and love. She'd forgive Louis a million times over because that's what it took.
She hugged him tightly, tears running down her cheeks and onto his denim jacket. She sniffled, "Sorry."
Louis shook his head, burying his face deeper in Addie's black coat, as if he was afraid she might disappear if he let go. "Let it all out, babe."
"I love you, asshole," Addie muttered through choked tears.
Louis sniffled, just slightly as he pulled back and looked her in the eyes. His blue eyes were glassy with tears. "I'm really sorry I was a dick."
Addie sniffled. "It's okay. Family sticks together, right? No matter what."
"No matter what."
---
Addie had bruises all over her knees and elbows, and she was about to pass out from exhaustion. But she put on a brave face for her girls, and led them through the match.
This match would determine whether or not their team made it to State Championships, which meant all the pressure was on Addie.
This was her team, the one she had spent countless weeks, days and hours training. Sleepless nights thinking about strategy and sweaty afternoons training until the sun went down and all her energy was spent- it all boiled down to this moment.
Addie's role as Captain would be put to the test. She couldn't fail.
And yet she didn't feel alone. All she had to do was look over at the bleachers and she'd see the people who had her back. Niall and Louis' cheers stood out from the rest, both from the accents and the volume of the shouts, but Addie could always make out Liam and Zayn's cheers even over the other two. And then there was Oli, a ginger-haired boy who'd been dragged along by Louis. He was kind, and he cheered for Addie even if they hadn't interacted much before.
Addie took a sip of her water and grinned as she gave a thumbs-up to her boys, even with sweat dripping down her spine and the thoughts whirling through her mind.
Her mom hadn't shown up. She never showed up. It'd been so painful every time for Addie last year, but it had been her four boys who had filled that gap left by her mom.
Ever since Zayn caught Addie crying right outside of the locker room as she tried to call her mom, but reached nothing but an answering machine, the four of them had ganged up and decided they would be Addie's supportive family. "You're not getting rid of us anytime soon," Zayn had winked at her that first match they'd shown up.
Addie wiped her sweat away and grabbed her teammates. "Okay, Tara, don't be scared to move through your zone, and Claire, hit the ball a little harder, it was too close to the net, alright?" The girls nodded with a grim look in their face. This was war. Addie clapped her hands. "Let's go."
Despite their best efforts, it came down to the final set. Each team had won two sets, and now it was just a matter of seeing who could get that final set.
Addie grabbed her girls, and told them, "Alice, stop hovering over Tara, and Lexi, when you spike the ball, hit it towards that girl, Grace. She won't see it coming. We've got this. We worked for this. We can do it."
It was excruciating to watch the other team hit the ball back with such ease, while some of Addie's girls were beginning to wear thin because of exhaustion. They kept going, but it was looking bad.
And it was when their captain, Jordan, hit the ball just a little too far out of Addie's reach that she finally panicked. Lexi was the only one who could reach it. But she was always afraid, scared that she would be the one who made the mistake.
But Lexi gave a running start and jumped, hitting that spike at just the right angle for Jordan to slide forward, scraping her body against the sand, with her hand just an inch away from where the ball hit the sand.
It was the boys' loud cheering that snapped Addie out of her daze. Lexi gave her a tight hug, and their team gathered in a circle, catching their breath as they shared grins of success.
They'd won.
Addie had won.
---
Addie's wet hair seeped into the back of her shirt, leaving a dark stain on the jersey, an Eagles shirt, one she'd stolen from Harry. She could still feel the adrenaline pumping through her veins, and the exhilaration of making it to State Championships made it impossible to wipe the grin off her face.
Maybe Addie still had a long way to go to Nationals, but in her first year as Captain and second year on the team, she'd qualified for State. That was a hell of an achievement.
Addie grabbed her gym bag, once again the final one to leave the room. She always made sure her team was all set before getting cleaned up herself. It was second nature by now.
She was supposed to head over to Tara's now, where her team and her friends would be waiting to celebrate, probably with a few packs of Louis' cigarettes and some six-packs of cheap beer. It was the kind of celebration Addie could've never appreciated last year, but it had turned into her own kind of comfort. Her home. Her family.
Addie locked the locker room behind her, making her way past the empty volleyball court and the extensive football field, breathing in the smell of freshly cut grass. They always cut the grass before a football match, and next weekend there would be one. Addie would come and cheer for her boys, no doubt about it.
She dug around for her keys in the pockets and zippers of her bag, finally finding it and clicking it. She turned towards the sound, and found a certain curly-haired boy leaning against the hood.
Addie froze, unsure of how to proceed, but she made her way towards him. His head was ducked, and he seemed to be staring at his hands. Addie shouted, "You better not be asking for a ride!"
Harry's head snapped up, green eyes landing on her. He blinked, scrambling to stand up straight, grabbing something he'd left on the hood and hiding it behind his body. "I'm not!"
Addie let herself stop several feet away from Harry. "So why are you here?"
"To apologize." Harry moved his hands from behind him and outstretched them to reveal a bouquet of red roses.
Addie's lips parted. "Flowers."
"You said roses you were your favorite," Harry explained sheepishly. She nodded slowly, meeting his gaze. She took the flowers from his hands, staring at the flowers. She'd never gotten flowers before. "They're apology flowers. And congratulations flowers. They- They're multipurpose."
Addie cracked a smile. Something about Harry's lighthearted jokes could always make her laugh. And the day had been good. She was happy.
Addie said, "I'm going to Tara's to celebrate our win."
Harry swallowed thickly, nodding somberly. "Right- I'll go then. Sorry."
Addie realized he'd taken it as a rejection and hastily said, "No- I meant, in case you wanna come with? And we can talk on the way, maybe?"
Harry blinked, giving her a once-over before slowly nodding. "Alright."
It was when Addie pulled out of the parking lot that Harry finally spoke.
"I'm really sorry."
"Haz-"
"No, I am," Harry insisted, twisting his body to face her fully. "I swear, I didn't mean anything of what I said, and I wanted to take it back and apologize but I didn't know how but I shouldn't have waited."
Addie cut in, "Harry-"
"You're just so amazing, and I think I like you, so I got jealous and that was wrong of me, I shouldn't have taken it out on you, and I don't think any of those things about you. Everyone's terrified of you, yeah, but they're so impressed by your talent and your intelligence and your kindness-"
"You think you like me?" Addie repeated weakly. She braked at the red light, and slowly turned to face a frozen Harry. "Harry, do you-"
"Yes." Harry looked shocked at his own words. "I don't want that to screw up our friendship, but I'm really in love with you."
A smile spread slowly over Addie's face as she pulled over to the side of the road.
"I can get out now, don't-" Harry started, but she cut him off by grasping the front of his shirt and pulling him toward her. Once he was close, she grasped his face delicately in her palm and gently laid her lips against his.
A gasp came from his lips, and she took the chance to trace the shape of his lips with her tongue. He emitted a soft groan, the sound swallowed by her slow and passionate kiss.
Harry's hands wandered up into her hair and on her waist, while she pulled him closer until she was practically in his lap. And he finally did finish the job, grasping her waist firmly and tugging her towards him until she was straddling his lap.
"That's my shirt, by the way," Harry murmured against her lips when she pulled away, resting her forehead against his.
Addie smiled. She knew everything would be alright. It'd all gone according to plan for the most part. She had a curly-haired, green-eyed boy wrapped around her finger, her heart in his hands and his shirt in her wardrobe. "It's not. It's mine now."
---
"C'mon, Addie, we're going to be late," Liam whined, knocking desperately on the bathroom door.
Addie groaned, fumbling for her lipgloss. "Shut up! You're not making this easier."
"You know Louis hates it when we're late."
"Well, he can shove his complaints up his-" Addie started, only to be cut off by the sound of a car engine rumbling. She yelped, the clattering of her makeup bag falling over and the contents pouring out echoing in her ears. She grabbed her lip liner and lipgloss, pulling the door open. "Shit. They're here."
Liam rolled his eyes, grabbing the makeup from her hands. "Go grab your bag, I'll meet you downstairs."
Addie smiled. "Thanks, babe."
She rushed to her room, grabbing her purse and pulling her heels on, glancing at the mirror in the hallway one last time and then making her way down the stairs, almost tripping halfway down.
Liam caught her before she fell. "Idiot."
"Thanks," Addie smiled nonetheless, giddy with excitement. "You look handsome, by the way. Zayn's going to love that suit."
Liam looked down at his fitted black suit, smiling to himself. "You think so?"
"He's going to die," Addie reassured him with a grin, grabbing her makeup and shoving it in her purse just in time for the bell to ring.
Addie made her way forward, eager to open the door, but Liam caught her wrist, pulling her back and adjusting the back of her dress, where the straps formed an 'X' but often got all tangled up. "Now you're all set."
Addie gave Liam's arm a quick squeeze of gratitude and opened the door. She met his green eyes, the color she'd become so familiar with for the last year. It was the color of the trees that grew, the grass you could smell in spring air, of christmas trees on holidays, of ivy that grew on you until it became a part of you.
Green was Harry's color. And now it was Addie's favorite.
She smiled at him, unable to keep a grin off her face for long around him. "Hi."
"Hey," Harry breathed, looking almost shocked as he took in the sight of her sharp eyeliner, the sweetheart neckline, the ruffles and layers of the skirt and the gloves she wore. "You look... you're beautiful."
There was something in his voice, that vulnerable honesty that always lingered, reminding Addie that he saw her as truly beautiful.
The way he looked at her, she could almost feel the love radiating from him, an affirmation that she was truly that special to him.
Addie smiled, confident in the fact that she was never letting Harry go. She took in the tailored pants, the cut of the blazer and the silk of his shirt. With curls swept back except for a single strand that fell in front of his face, framing his sharp cheekbones and that angled jaw.
The curve of his dimple appeared, and Addie's chest radiated with warmth as she grabbed the loops of his belt and pulled him forward, giving him a firm kiss.
Liam cleared his throat. "We gonna get moving?"
"Your boyfriend's waiting in the car," Harry muttered bitterly at Liam, unappreciative of the interruption.
Addie snickered as Liam pushed past them, practically skipping to the car where Zayn got out to greet him. She turned to Harry, wiping the lipgloss of his lips. "I love you."
Harry's eyes carried so much emotion, every bit of happiness and longing showing in them. He wanted her, he had her, and he was grateful for it. "I love you."
"You and me," Addie whispered, raising her pinky.
He crossed his pinky with hers. "That's my whole world."
A little game they'd made up one day. A way to reassure each other they would always be there, no matter what. It was silly and a little childish, but it was theirs.
The honking of the car was the second interruption to their moment. Harry inhaled sharply, glaring at the two boys he considered brothers waiting in the car.
Addie laughed, grabbing Harry's hand. "C'mon, it's prom, let's have some fun."
Prom was fun. They snuck in flasks of booze and spilled it into their cups of punch, easily sneaking behind teacher's backs.
Harry convinced Addie to dance with him, just for a little while. It turned into a good thirty minutes of them both smiling and enjoying the moment.
They snuck away for a quick make out session under the stairs, and when they returned, it was clear from the mark on Liam's neck that they weren't the only couple who'd snuck away.
Later, Louis snatched Addie's phone away as she was in the middle of taking pictures, and she chased him out of the gym and to the basketball court.
The others weren't far behind, watching with amusement as the two sibling bickered, their last time fighting before Louis went off to college and joined the big leagues.
That realization seemed to hit both Addie and Louis at the same time as she snatched her phone back. And their smiles faded as the facts settled over their chests like a weight.
It was then that Zayn kicked a ball towards Louis. "Show us some moves one last time."
Louis was up for the challenge and ready to distract himself from thoughts of what they might be losing. Addie kicked her heels off and padded onto the cold grass, chasing after Niall, who'd stolen the ball.
Their little group of six, the small clique that had formed and the bond that'd grown between them the last year, was all Addie could think about.
Addie didn't focus on Zayn and Louis leaving, she focused on winning the match, even with Niall's knee that had been acting up since his injury before the end of the season.
It turned into a match filled with trash talk, a few loose elbows and lots of smile and laughter. It was Niall, Addie and Harry versus Louis, Liam and Zayn.
"Pass it!" Addie shouted into the evening air, brisk to her bare arms, gloves discarded long ago as she waved her arm in the air. Harry caught her eye and kicked the ball towards her. A little too hard.
She tried to get it to hit her knee, but instead it flew into her stomach, making her bend over as she wheezed, all the air knocked out of her.
Harry ran towards her, his hand flying to rub her back as a steady stream of apologies spilled from his mouth. Meanwhile, the others snorted with laughter.
"Guess we end the year the way we started it, right?" Louis snickered, clapping Addie in the back. She straightened at the sharp pain, but smiled nonetheless.
"Shut it, Tomlinson."
No one won the match.
When Addie got home that night- or morning, it was three am. The alcohol had left her system hours ago, but the smell of tobacco from Zayn and Louis' smoking lingered on her dress, mixed with Harry's cologne.
Addie would miss these kinds of days when the two boys went off to college. But for now, she simply smiled into her pillow as she remembered the five loyal friends she'd made. And that one green-eyed boy she loved so dearly.
---
Addie cried during her graduation. For a number of reasons.
First, it was her mom's text that she wasn't showing up. No big surprise, but it still hit her hard. Then, it was seeing her friends in those cap and gowns. It meant they were all parting ways. And finally, it was as she got onto the stage for her speech as valedictorian, and looked into the crowd, expecting not to see a familiar face when-
"Let's go, Heathers!" Louis cheered, as Zayn shouted, "That's our girl!"
Addie grinned, reminded of the brothers she had. Her mom wasn't family. Those two were.
Addie told her speech perfectly, barely even glancing at her notes as she spoke about the loss of a stage of her life she'd never get back, strangers from another country who had embraced her with welcoming arms, and the friends she'd made along the way. She spoke of the hardships, and the challenges, but refused to leave out all the happiness and the victories.
She reminded them to take that leap of faith, jump and see where they landed, that the biggest risks came with the biggest wins. And the choice you feared the most would be the one to reap the rewards.
Addie got her diploma and after they tossed the caps in the air, it was almost as if it had been planned the way all four of the freshly-graduated kids sprinted towards Zayn and Louis, the six of them squeezing together for a hug.
That was the last time Addie cried. When she realized she'd found her forever home with this little mismatched family. Their Sacred group of Six.
---
It was at the end of their first year of college that Addie and Harry took their first trip as a couple. Just the two barely legal adults taking a trip to Mexico for the beaches.
Addie didn't tell her family she'd be in town, and instead just relaxed on the beach with Harry. It was when the weekend was coming to a close, and their last night at the resort was spent having a nice dinner.
He paid for dinner and then grasped her hand, leading her back onto the sand of the beach. The night sky was dark, freckled with the whites of stars and the gray hue of the moon.
The water reflected the moon, and a single one of Harry's knees touched the cold sand. His hand clutched a black box, and Addie's heart raced.
Words spilled out of his mouth, promises he would fulfill and letting all the love inside his heart linger in the air for Addie to know.
Six months later, they had a small wedding. A ceremony in Harry's backyard, with white and red roses everywhere and their family.
Addie's parents had been invited. She reckoned they could come as guests, but they wouldn't be allowed to participate in the wedding. Her parents had been bitter about not being a part of the wedding and being reduced to simple guests, so in protest, they didn't show up. It didn't bother Addie nearly as much as she thought it would.
Instead, it was Robin who walked her down the aisle and handed her off. And it was Anne beside her as the maid of honor. The two had done more for Addie in three years than her own parents had done in nineteen.
Addie had learned the hard way that family had nothing to do with blood. But it was a lesson she cherished having learned.
They'd decided to skip a little bit of the tradition and instead had divided the groomsmen/bridesmaids evenly between the two sides.
Liam and Zayn stood behind Harry, with Gemma in between them, while Niall and Louis stood behind Addie, Anne in between the two boys.
Over the last three years, Gemma had become like an older sister to Addie, guiding her through the rough parts of her life, and giving her a strong woman in her life she could turn to.
It was the first time several people had seen Addie cry, but it was only fitting for who they were. She kept a strong, cold face for everyone else, but the second her eyes met Harry's, it all melted away.
Every single wall Addie had ever built to keep herself safe crumbled to the ground with the one person she would always love. Her forever home, Harry.
And Harry cried, of course. He'd always been a shining star, but when he had Addie, he became the sun, fierce and radiating warmth. She was everything he had ever wanted and never known he needed.
Getting through their vows was the hardest part, both of them choking up as they tried to get through their speeches. Harry had had to write his down because every time he tried to speak it from memory, he'd get so distracted by the knowledge that he was marrying Adelaide Heathers, that he'd forget it.
And Addie managed to memorize hers, but faltered halfway through as she sniffled. It was Louis' reassuring squeeze on her shoulder that gave her the strength to finish.
Her speech was beautiful and poetic, and she'd worked tirelessly to make sure it could capture the essence of her adoration for Harry. But words were never enough.
She finished with one last sentence; "I can't wait to have forever with you."
After the ceremony, the two had had to retire to a private room before beginning the reception. Just letting each other process the fact that that was it. They'd just promised each other forever.
"I can't wait to start the rest of our lives," Addie said. "Me and you."
"That's my whole world."

Addie was in college for her scholarship to practice professional volleyball. She would later go on to win the Summer Olympics her first season as a player, and would rise through the ranks until eventually becoming Captain.
Harry kept going with football for several years. But after getting a camera for his birthday, soon discovered his passion for photography. He quit the team and began discovering his love for art.
He worked as a freelance photographer for a couple of years, and then worked with a highly-esteemed fashion magazine, worked as a model once with the same magazine before discovering he preferred being behind the lens than in front of it.
Harry then worked as a photographer for an album photoshoot for the highly-recognized Love Band, and then became close friends with members Mitch and Sarah Rowland. It was then that he began venturing into music.
After Addie was injured during her last match before her team could qualify for the Olympics, she was forced to drop out from the rest of the season. She them began to explore writing, and published several compilations of poems and short stories in the six months of break before returning to her team.
Years later, once Addie retired, she would join Harry with his exploration of music and the two would co-write an album. It would be Adelaide Heathers' debut in music and Harry Styles' fifth studio album.
They would spend the next few years exploring art, creating new and bizzare things, and most of all, staying in touch with the family they'd had since they were kids.
This is your reminder that in every world, and in every universe, no matter the circumstances, Addie, Harry, Niall, Liam, Louis and Zayn find their way to each other and become a family.
And in every universe, Adelaide Heathers and Harry Styles fall in love. And despite the twists and turns, it always works out in the end.

Ghoaptober # 3
Prompt: Hurt
Words: 5100~
TW: Distressing/Negative Sexual Experiences, Traditional Alpha/Beta/Omega Dynamics, Restraints, Intersex Omegas (NOT sfw)
This version of Ghoaptober was created by @spadesandshovels
Please note that all the Distressing/Negative Sexual Experiences are not between Ghost and Soap. I think this one is right on the line for dub-con, so proceed with caution if that's something that might trigger you. If this is missing any trigger warning please do let me know!
I've always had an itch to subvert the 'omega desperately needs to get fucked during their heat' trope, so I honestly shouldn't be so surprised that this one got away from me like it did.
Enjoy!
As an omega, Soap had started preparing for his heat a good month in advance, heâd gathered up his favourite nesting blankets and made sure they were freshly laundered, heâd scouted a good Heat-Hotel that was nearby and booked a room, heâd even secured a partner. Some of the other omegas on base had been touting this new matcher app, that theyâd reportedly had massive success with, so Soap had decided to give it a whirl and signed up. Whatâs the worst that could happen, he was no doubt better trained than any of the civvies heâd be meeting up with.Â
Heâd been talking to an alpha named Dominic Wilckes and when the subject of his heat had come up, Dominic had asked if Soap was looking for a partner. With no reason to say no, Soap had said yes. Heâs spent heats with and without partners before, and found accompanied heats to be much more manageable.Â
Soap was in his room at the Heat-Hotel now, securing a layer of waterproof Heat-Sheets over his carefully arranged nest. When his heat was spiking he didnât care, but when he was in a lull or was coming down, he hated having his nest being a messy, sticky, uncomfortable, ruined heap of blankets. So heâd learned how to weave a sturdy nest and had invested in specialty sheets that would keep it clean.Â
His phone buzzed rapidly on the table, it was Dominic.
âhereâ
âsafe n sOund solotions?â
âin the lobbyâ
âwhr r uâ
Dominic was a nice guy, but Soap could admit that the way he texted was a bit annoying. Having his messages open to send Dominic the room number reminded him that he hadnât texted Ghost yet. He pulled up his location and sent it to his Lieutenant along with a quick text,
âAt Safe & Sound Solutions, Room 348, Booked for three days, Should be back Tuesday.â
His message showed as being read within the minute and while he was waiting to see if Ghost would reply another message came in from Dominic,
âcome downâ
Soap reread the message, why would he need to go down to the lobby? Maybe there was an issue Dominic needed help with? Confused, but willing to help, Soap texted back a quick âOn my way.â and headed out, his riled instincts insisting he double and triple check that heâd locked the door to his room. That he made sure his nest was safe from intruders.
In the lobby, Soap found Dominic leaning up against the wall next to the lifts with a bag at his feet. Walking over, he tried to spot where the problem was.Â
âDominic? Whitâs wrong?â Soap questioned,
âHey, John. Some of the people were giving me weird looks. I needed you to come to show them Iâm not some creep hanging around for nothing.â Dominic stood from his lean and stepped into Soapâs space, bringing his arm up to rub a wrist over Soapâs nape. Scenting him. Soap let him, tilting his shoulders so the other man wouldnât accidentally brush his mating glands, they got heinously sensitive when he was heating. Â
âOh, alrighâ,â Soap privately thought that Dominic was overthinking it, if anyone was looking at him weird it was for loitering around in the lobby, but not actually sitting in any of the many chairs scattered throughout. The lobby of every Heat-Hotel that Soap had ever visited always looked like Moses had called a plague of plush chintzy furniture down upon them.Â
Soap led Dominic back into the lift, pressing the button for his floor. A chime from his phone brought his attention to the fact that Ghost had replied, heâd reacted to Soapâs message with a thumbs up and had sent back,
âRog.âÂ
Ghost had a habit of reading his notifications as soon as he could, but often didnât have the time to actually reply until later.Â
âWhoâs that?â Dominic asked, peeking over Soapâs arm to get a look at the screen.Â
Soap locked his phone, the smile that had pulled up the corners of his mouth falling away.Â
âMah L.T. He likes tae know everyâhings guid.â Soap replies, watching the numbers of the lift ding over to his floor and stepping out as the doors parted.
âYour L.T? Whatâs that?â Dominic crowded up against his back as he tried to finagle the keycard into scanning properly and unlocking the door.Â
âMah Lieutenant.â Soap pulls the door flush closed, grips the handle to make sure itâs sitting straight, then tries sliding the keycard through at a snail's pace. The light flashes green and he whips the door open before it can change its mind, sending a silent thanks out to Price for teaching him how to sweet-talk card readers.Â
âOh yeah. You're in some kinda military army thing right?â Dominicâs realization carried a strange tone of praise.Â
âYeah, U.K.S.F,â Soap clocks Dominics blank gaze and spells it out for him before he can ask, âUnited Kingdom Special Forces,â
A light comes on behind Dominicâs eyes, but a skeptical look crinkles his nose. âBut canât only U.K citizens join?âÂ
It's Soapâs turn to stare blankly, âAye?â the answer carries a subtext of âyou dumbassâ that Soap couldnât have stopped if there were hostages at stake.
Soap watches Dominicâs confused look intensify. Good, they could be confused together.
âBut arenât you Irish?âÂ
âNae!â Soap refutes, that idea in need of immediate culling, âAhâm no' Irish. Ahâm a fuckinâ Scot!â
âOh, I didnât know Scottish people could join the British army?âÂ
Soap searches Dominic's face for any sign that heâs joking, Dominic looks earnestly back at him.Â
Jesus Christ.
Heâs not joking.Â
âScotlandâs a parâ ae the U.K,â Soap says hesitantly, leadingly, begging Dominic to spend one brain cell on remembering his First Year geography lessons.
âOh, Alright.â Dominic shrugs in a âwhatever you sayâ manner, that makes Soap think heâs doing it more to drop the conversation than he actually believes what heâs been told, âAre you already set up? When does your heat kick in?â
Dominic glances around the room, looking over Soapâs preparations, dropping his bag off his shoulder onto the desk pressed against the wall. Why a Heat-Hotel thought its room's occupants might need a desk, was the true mystery of the night.Â
Soap shakes himself free of the disbelief clogging his brain, and checked his watch, âWiâhin the âour, mebbe twenây minutes?âÂ
Dominic shoots him an odd look again, clearly thinking something over.
âWhit? Whitâs wrong?â Soap glances around himself, but nothing looks wrong to him.
âYour accentâs cute, John, but itâs a bit hard to understand you. You know?â Dominic's tone is assured, almost complimentary, âItâs gonna be hard to know what you want if I canât understand you.â He coaxes, like a parent reasoning with their toddler to not bite electrical cables. Like itâs what was best for everyone.
Baffled, Soap stares at him. Heâs never gotten flak about his accent from his previous partners, everyone else had seemed to enjoy it. At least, Soap had thought theyâd enjoyed it.Â
âAye,â Soap swallows hard, his stomach roiling âEh- Uh- Yes. I can- Um- Iâll try tae- to speak,â Flustered, Soap stutters through his answer as he tries to flatten his accent, âIâll try to speak more clearly.â
âThatâs all Iâm asking.â Dominic nods at him, âNow,â he slaps at his own thighs, âWhere are we setting up? On the bed?â He walks over to the bed, toting his bag, and starts rummaging through the nightstands, âThey donât have anything here, it's a good thing I brought my own stuff.âÂ
Soap eyes him as he approaches the nest, wincing as his tossed bag knocks free a carefully stacked pillow. Dominic clatters around a bit more, checking the minifridge and all the drawers in the desk.Â
âWhereâs your stuff?â He turns back to Soap.
Soap points wordlessly at the gutted dufflebag heâd carried his blankets over in.Â
âOh, you donât use toys? A good omega? Like whining on your fingers instead?â Dominicâs voice dripped with sudden lascivious intent, he dropped his head to eye Soap through his lashes, licking his lips and petting his hands over his bag, âThatâs okay, baby. Alpha will take care of you. Iâll give you everything you need.â
Soap inhaled shakily. He must not laugh. If he laughed heâd be out of a heat partner and his instincts would insist on him moving the nest. If he moved rooms heâd have to update Ghost. Ghost would worry about why he moved rooms and insist on checking on him. If his L.T came within one city block of him when he was on his heat Soap was dragging that alpha into his nest and not letting him leave. Soap did not want his L.T to write him up for fraternization.Â
He must not laugh.Â
âOh yeah?â Soap eked out. Dominic must take the breathiness of his voice to be anticipation as his look only grew more seductive.Â
âYeah, baby. Come get comfy in your nest and Alpha will show you the presents he brought.â Dominic pats a hand on the nest, then gives it a surprised glance, âThese are the blankets you want? Theyâre not very soft.â
Soap explains about how he doesnât like his nest getting dirty as he crawls up onto the bed, petting a proprietary hand over his nest. Itâs not like the blankets were scratchy terrycloth or anything, they were Heat-Sheets, they were made specifically for heats, they wouldnât sell if they werenât comfortable.Â
âHere,â Dominic reached forward and Soap frantically knocks the hand away before it could tear into his nest. The judging look that Dominic shot him was completely uncalled for. What kind of psycho fucks with an omegaâs nest.Â
âWhat?â Dominic furrows his eyebrows at the omega, âI was just gonna show you a better way to do it. You could put a soft sheet on top, so youâre not laying on something so rough. I know omegas are super sensitive about that kinda stuff.â
âNae- No. No, itâs fine like this. Thank you, Dominic.â Soap assures, sliding over to sit on the bed directly in front of Dominic, firmly between his nest and the alpha.Â
After eyeing him for a moment longer, Dominic shugs and turns back to his bag, muttering something about omegas being so picky under his breath.Â
âI got you that water you like,â he says, pulling three one-litre bottles of Volvic mineral water out of his bag and setting them on the nightstand. Soap felt warmed and a touch shocked, heâd only mentioned that he likes Volvic best in passing. The warm feeling vanished when the next item Dominic pulled from his bag of tricks was a tall omegaen guard-collar.
âI know itâs usually that alphas wear muzzles for heats and omegas wear collars for ruts, but the skin on my face is super sensitive and Iâll get a rash if I wear a muzzle,â Dominic explained, handing over the collar when Soap hesitantly reached for it.Â
It was made of good thick leather, fastening with two buckles in the back instead of a cheap zipper. The things that were throwing Soap off were that it was much taller than the typical guard-collar, how it flared out at the bottom to cover over his trapeziuses, and the four D-rings spaced around its middle. It honestly looked more like a posture-collar.Â
âI was looking into the failure rate of guard-collars and this one has amazing reviews and no accidental bites,â Dominic supplies, tapping at the collar in Soap's hands, âDo you need help putting it on?â
Soap absently nods, not really processing whatâs being said to him, and finds the contraption out of his hands and strapped around his neck within two heartbeats. Hands coming up to scrabble at the new pressure squishing his mating glands Soap gives a startled yelp and Dominic quickly grabs his hands. Shushing and cooing at him, giving his hands a firm squeeze when he tries to pull away.Â
âItâs alright, omega. Youâre doing so well.â Tuning out Dominic's crooning, Soap focused on calming his breathing.
In for four, hold for four, out for four. In for four, hold for four, out for four.
With his breath under control, Soap can admit that the collar isnât as restrictive as heâd feared, he can breathe fine, and turn his head. Looking down or up presses a bit, but itâs not terrible.
Focusing on himself for a moment also revealed to Soap that heâd been so busy judging Dominic that heâd completely missed his body cresting through pre-heat. Taking another deep breath Soap warns the alpha that heâll be going into full heat in a minute or two and watches the shocked look take over Dominic's face. Itâs not surprising to Soap that Dominic hadnât noticed, Soapâs scent has never been particularly loud and heâs not throwing himself at the alpha like the needy heat-drunk omegas do in films.Â
The next few minutes are admittedly blurry to Soap as his body plunges into full heat, when he comes back to himself heâs face down with his ass up in the air and Dominic is playing between his thighs. By the wetness dripping down his legs Soap guesses that heâs already cum once, that or Dominic drools more than Eas Aâ Chual Aluinn.Â
Giving a pitching whine, Soap tries to get up onto his elbows and finds that the guard-collar wasn't Dominicâs only gift for him. There are soft leather cuffs secured around his wrists, latched closed with simple carabiners and attached to one of the D-rings of his collar with a short chain. Stopping him from lifting his head more than about twenty centimetres away from his hands and, consequently, the bed.Â
âDo- Dominic?â He pants through his confusion and feels the man pull his tongue and what felt like three fingers out of his hole.Â
âBack with me, omega? Youâre doing so well. Getting so wet for me. Cumming so pretty.â Dominic rumbles, reverent fingers coming back to pet over Soapâs twitching hole.Â
Soap pushes back into the touch, feeling achingly empty, his lower belly cramping with the need to be filled.Â
âAlpha, please,â he whines âNeed your knot, please, please, knot me, ple-â
âHush.â Dominic commands and the omegaâs jaw snaps shut, âIâm not done with you yet, omega. Be quiet and settle down. Take what alpha gives you.âÂ
Tears prickled behind Soapâs eyes. He got his elbows under himself and lifted his head up off of the nest as far as he could, breathing easier without the blankets in his face. He yelps when hot suction suddenly seals around his cocklet with three fingers plunging back into his hole to bully his sweet spot. Thighs shaking, Soap is pushed into another orgasm, face falling back into the sheets, muffling his squeals when Dominic doesnât let up. Hard sucks and forceful strokes propelling him through one orgasm and directly into the next.Â
His honest yelping coaxes Dominic off his cocklet, âPoor omega,â The alpha croons, petting over his thighs and grabbing at his ass, âSo needy. Itâs okay, alphaâs here. Alpha will give you what you need.âÂ
âKnot- Knot me. Alpha, please. Need it.â Soap begs shamelessly, the heat roaring through him stoked by his untied orgasms, his body painfully demanding for him to be knotted and filled.
âI donât know,â comes Dominicâs teasing reply, leaking more false sympathy than Soapâs hole was leaking slick, âHave you been a good omega? Do you deserve my knot?âÂ
âYes, Yes.â Soap nods as much as the collar allows, still careful to smother his accent, âPlease, need it.â
âOkay, omega. Alpha will help you.â Dominicâs fingers pull out of him and an actual sob escapes Soap when instead of a cock, he feels a tongue push into his hole. He purposely turns into the sheets to muffle his cries, his instincts rioting and his climbing temperature making him feel sick.
A brief unwelcome stroke over his asshole yanks him from his spiral. His head snaps up, eyes wide and stinging with unshed tears. Did he imagine it? His chest heaves and he freezes perfectly still, staring blankly down at the tangle his nest has become.Â
A finger, wet with what he can only assume is his own slick, prods past his rim up to the second knuckle and Soap gives a startled yowl, âNae! Nae! Donnae do tha!â
âNo?â Comes Dominicâs skeptical tease, his free hand squeezing goadingly at Soapâs hip, âMy poor Omega doesn't want all his heated holes nice and full?â
Soap frantically shakes his head, lacking words, but filled with denial. Tears knocked loose and coursing unseen down his cheeks.
âAlright,â Dominic agreed, no less skeptical, but slowly withdrawing his finger regardless.
When Soap felt that same finger slide down to line up with his holeâs entrance the omega is willing to admit that he may have come a little unglued.
He snarled, wriggling and kicking back at the alpha, yanking bruises into his wrists in the shape of the cuffs that bound them. Soap managed to thrash his way upright and huddled up against the headboard. Hissing at the flabbergasted alpha knelt at the foot of the bed, giving another throat tearing snarl when Dominic tried to reach for him. His instincts in full control and having decidedly assessed the alpha to be a bad heat partner.Â
Keeping his full attention on the man, Soap brought his wrists up and bit open the carabiners, untethering the cuffs from the collar then unfastening the cuffs to slide them off altogether. His freed hands immediately moving behind his neck to unbuckle the collar, fumbling blindly and growling with bared teeth when the alpha made a move towards him. Managing to finagle the first buckle loose, he unhooked the second with much more finesse. Tossing the collar aside, Soap heaved a breath of relief, hands coming up to rub at his sore mating glands, the glands feeling nearly bruised from the constant pressing of the collar.Â
âJohn, Calm down,â Dominic spoke up, voice slow and hesitant, âEverythingâs fine, stop freaking out,â
Soap would have liked to close his eyes and regroup, but really didn't like the idea of leaving Dominic unsupervised. Instead he started up his breathing exercises again while keeping the alpha firmly within his sights.
In for four, hold for four, out for four.
âThatâs good. Just calm down,â Dominic praised, stretching forward to reach for Soapâs drawn up knees.Â
Soap tossed the idea of regulating his breath out the window and drew himself up, âDominic,â He ground out of a throat that only wanted to produce growls, âDo. Not. Touch. Me.âÂ
Dominic sat back on the bed, stymied, thoroughly confused, and a little offended.Â
Soapâs temperature was spiking, though the want to be knotted and filled had completely vanished. Falling forward onto his hands, Soap panted for air, sweat pouring down his skin. His vision was fading, the sound of Dominic saying something coming through muffled, like his ears were stuffed with cotton. Chills and prickles raced up his spine to dance over his scalp. His throat felt like it was shrinking to the size of a straw.Â
Something wet touched his bottom lip and he was automatically gulping down the water before he consciously made the decision to drink. The ringing faded from his ears just enough for him to hear Dominic.
â-hn, I called the emergency line. Thereâs a nurse comi-â
Soapâs vision blacked out.
When he blinked back to himself he was flat on his back with something cold pressing against the nape of his neck and his legs being held aloft by a beta woman that was standing beside the bed. Struggling to get his eyes to properly focus, he grunted his confusion.
âHello, Mr Mactavish. Iâm Kelly. How are you feeling?â The beta, Kelly, spoke with a voice that was friendly, but not perky. More of a matter-of-fact warmth.Â
âPreây shite,â He groaned out, letting his eyes fall closed again as he rubbed at his face. Dimly registering that a thin blanket had been draped over his hips to cover his unmentionables.
âYeah, Iâd guess so,â Kelly commiserates, gently lowering his legs back onto the bed, âCould you keep your knees up for me? Just like that. Perfect. So, Mr Mactavish, youâve just had a rather bad bout of Heat Rejection,â Kelly informs him, while keeping a grounding hand on his obediently raised knees, âItâs completely natural and not at all life threatening, the symptoms should level out within the next twenty-four hours. Youâre welcome to ride it out in the medical suite here with us, or if you have someone that you can call that can sit with you for that time youâre free to leave.â
Soap slowly thinks this over, cracking open an eye and blearily noticed that the room is empty of anyone but Kelly and himself. âDominic,â He grunts, not quite managing to make it pitch up into a question.
âI asked Mr Wilckes to wait in the hall, as I wasnât sure if his presence would make you uncomfortable.â Kelly is a consummate professional, but Soap thinks he can detect hints of scorn flitting about the corners of her eyes, âI can call him back in if thatâs what you want.â
âNae.â Soap denies, âNae, I dun wanâ âim âere. If ye coul' pass me mah phone Iâve someone thaâ can take me outta yâur hair,â
Kelly kindly fetches his phone, though she doesnât let him sit up to make the call. Eyeing Simonâs contact, he mentally apologizes to everyone on the base for the chaos heâs about to unleash, then hits dial.
Heâs barely had the time to move the phone to his ear when the call is picked up.
âJohnny?â Ghostâs harried voice barks down the line, âWhatâs wrong?â
âWhyâs someâhing gotta be wrong fer me tae call ye, L.T,â Soap bitches, trying to calm Ghost down from the lather heâs no doubt already worked himself into, âGonnae giâ a man a complex,â
âWhatâs wrong, Johnnyâ The voice that rumbles from the phone is pure domineering alpha and it kicks a reflexive placating whine from Soapâs chest.Â
âSi, ah need ye tae come geâ me,â Soap mumbles down the line, his bravado drowned by the sudden twisting need he has for Ghost to be here with him.Â
âIâm coming, Johnny.â Is the immediate reply, and by the rustles coming from Ghostâs side of the call, Soap knows heâs hauling ass, âCan you stay on the line? Are you hurt?âÂ
âAhâm fine, Si. Ahâm no' hurt,â Soap lets his eyes fall closed again, ignoring the judgmental look Kelly shoots him for his little fib. In his own defense, heâs not physically hurt. From what he knows of Heat Rejection, his body is just gonna be all kinds of outta wack while his hormones try to rapidly bring him back down to baseline. For now, heâs content to listen to the sounds of Simon snapping at any unfortunate soul that dared get in his way. Soap only realises that heâs begun purring when a quiet answering purr comes from Simon.Â
The slam of the room door opening jolts Soap out of the calm daze heâd fallen into and he reflexively punts the most pertinent object at the intruder. Unfortunately, that object happened to be the phone heâd been holding, even more unfortunately, the intruder was Ghost.Â
Ghost easily ducks the unconventional projectile and covers the distance to the bed so fast, Soap could have sworn he teleported. From Kellyâs jump she also wasnât expecting a man of Ghostâs size to move with that speed.Â
Spooky bastard, his L.T.
âGhost!â he cheers and is climbing up the alpha to nuzzle into his neck before he can rein in his rampant instincts.Â
Omega and alpha freeze, Soap midnuzzle and Ghost with his hands reflexively clamped around his Sergeantâs bare thighs.Â
Kelly, the blessed angel she is, gently clears her throat. Effectively snapping the awkward tension.
âMr MacTavish is experiencing Heat Rejection and needs someone that is able to stay with him for the next twenty-four hours, or until his symptoms abate.â She looks up at Ghost, clad in his full skull-plated balaclava and half his field kit, without fear. Soap must have called while he was busy terrifying the rooks, âCan you do that?â
Ghost gives her a solemn nod, âYes.âÂ
âPerfect,â Kelly starts listing symptoms, proper care practices, and things to watch out for when dealing with Heat Rejection and Soap is man enough to admit that he didnât listen to a lick of it.
He was busy oscillating wildly between bone shaking horror that he was clinging to his Lieutenant while bare as a newborn, a deep seated greedy pleasure that Simon had come for him without question, and the brainless need to purr and rub against this perfect alpha until the rejected alphaâs scent was gone from his skin. Â
Ghostâs hands gently squeezed his thighs, then loosened as he leaned forward a bit to encourage Johnny to stand on his own. Soap gave a petulant whine, but a reassuring purr and a gentle pat to his thighs had him reluctantly hopping down. Before his instincts could coax his better sense into indulging in a full blown pout for having to give up his prize, he was distracted by the sight of Ghost knelt at his feet holding out a pair of trackies for him to step into.Â
If the mere thought of any kind of sexual touch didnât currently make Soap want to run all the way back to Alba, Ghost on his knees for him would be a very enticing image, he couldnât guarantee that it wouldnât be the only thing on his mind the next time the need to let off steam hit either. For now, however, Soap was tired to his core and was pitifully grateful for the help as he stepped into the trousers, letting Ghost draw them up over his hips.Â
Feeling like naught more than a bairn, Soap threw his arms up at Ghostâs gesture and let the man pull a shirt over his head. The impression was not helped by Ghost then immediately picking him up and perching him on his hip. The man was only eleven centimetres taller than him, where did he get off manhandling him like he was some kind of waif. Soap grumbled to himself, but was disinclined to actually demand he be allowed to walk on his own. Content to wrap all his limbs around Simon, like a particularly lonely limpet, and purr like a motorbike while rubbing their jaws together.Â
There was a bit of a scuffle when Ghost had to convince him to let go and get in the car, but by the time the car was parked again Soap was barely conscious. He dully registered Simon picking him up out of his seat, the tension falling out of his muscles when he recognized the smells of their base. He thought he heard Prize and Gaz, but their voices were far away and the rumble of Simonâs chest was nice against his.Â
Johnny cracked open an eye when he was plopped onto a bed, content to drowsily track Simon as the alpha threw his duffle, once again stuffed to bursting with blankets, next to the laundry bin. Simon heading for the door sent an unpleasant jolt through him and he whined forlornly, desperate to keep his alpha here with him.
âIâm going for drinks and food, Johnny,â Simon assured him, coming back to pet a hand over his warhawk, âIâll be right back, I promise,â
Johnny whined again, but did nothing more to stop Simon from leaving. He could also do nothing to stop his instincts from insisting that he had disappointed his alpha and the man was never coming back. Trying to appease the gordian knot his logic and instincts were tying themselves into, Johnny started rumpling around in the bed heâd been deposited onto to make up a new nest. A deep rolling purr bursting from him when he realized it was Simonâs bed. No doubt the alphaâs instincts were also going haywire, demanding he protect the omega.
No better place than the heart of his own territory for that, Johnny supposed.Â
The door opened and Johnnyâs reflexive hiss broke into another purr, the mere sight of Simon cutting through his anxieties. He actually barked a few ecstatic chirps when the alpha dropped lovely soft clean scentless blankets onto the bed. Johnny hadnât chirped since his age was in the single digits, but Simon bringing him blankets -his alpha contributing to their nest-, was really doing it for him.Â
Johnny lost himself in weaving the perfect nest, as he always does, and once he deemed it faultless he looked for his alpha.Â
Simon was standing, backed against the wall on the other side of the room, with his hands palms out and his chin tipped up to expose his throat. His bare uncovered balaclavaless throat, to match his bare uncovered balaclavaless face.Â
Oh, Johnny's alpha was perfect.
The omega might have gotten a bit overwhelmed by the sheer excellence of his alpha as he immediately went limp to flop and roll in his nest. Catching a glimpse of Simon flinching forward at his abrupt fall before realising what Johnny was doing and assuming his non-aggressive stance again, with a perfect peachy pink blush creeping up his throat to bloom over his cheeks.Â
âAlpha,â Johnny called him over, patting invitingly at the nest.
Simon took a hesitant step forward and was pulled the rest of the distance to the bed by Johnnyâs delighted chirps. The omega was still flopped, but curled around just enough to snag the loose fabric of Simonâs pants, retracting his hand and shaking it out with an unhappy whine when the fabricâs rough texture offended him. In the next second Simon stood before him in only his knickers. Johnny doesnât think heâs ever seen Simon strip that fast, including that time when Simon's clothes had actually caught fire.Â
Johnny gives a surprised meep, gazing wide eyed at the alpha stood vibrating before him, waiting for permission to enter his own bed. Then gets over it and hauls the man down into the nest. Pushing him around until he was in the perfect position for cuddles. Johnny purred, burying his face into the warm nook between Simonâs arm and his side, whining inconsolably when the alpha lifted his arm to give him more room, only purring again when he put it back where it was.
A hand comes up to hesitantly pet over his back, creeping upward to scratch across his nape and dig into the base of his warhawk. Johnny feels his purr drop down his throat to resonate in his chest. Announcing for all who cared to listen that Johnny considered himself to be perfectly safe, cared for, and comfortable. An answering purr kicked on in Simonâs chest and Johnny let himself drift off.Â
Knowing Simon wouldnât hurt him.
Thank You For Reading!
Let's all pray that Dominic wasn't still in the hall by the time Ghost got there, or pray for the opposite, depending on how much you hate Dominic.
So, did y'all know that Tumblr has a "4096-text-characters-per-block limit." ? Cause that was a fun discovery to have while I was trying to put this post together.

Chapter 45: Hold the Line
Love isnât always on time
Tuesday, December 24th
Christmas at the Potters was always a blast. Sirius had learned that when he turned 12 and got invited to their house to celebrate Christmas after he got a dreadful howler about being a disgrace for the Noble House of Black and getting detention for the prank they had done to the Slytherins.
James had overheard Sirius cry at night over the fact that heâd have to spend Christmas alone in the school and decided he had to do something about it. He wrote a letter to his Mum and Sirius got officially invited to their home for the break. Now, the Potters sent the invitation to Sirius and Sirius only, and he got on the train as if he were going home without telling anyone about it. He got another howler when Walburga found out, but it had been worth it.Â
He hadnât been allowed to the Potters for Christmas next year, and he made sure to make a show out of it, wearing muggle clothes to the family dinner and acting so irreverent that Orion locked him up in his room, after giving him a scold, slashing him with diffindo, and making him write âI will behave,â over and over again with a black quill. It didnât work, Sirius made sure to behave even worse on the New Yearâs event and he got officially banned from December celebrations by Walburga.Â
Next year, he was back at the Potters and happier than ever before. The scars heâd gotten (already long gone) had been worth it. Since then, heâd spent Christmas with them, and every year had been better than the last. Effie was always nice to him, and even with how much she was like James, she was still motherly, especially in comparison to Walburga.Â
And she had treated Sirius like her own boy since they met. In fact, there was never a difference in the way neither Monty nor Effie treated the two boys, they were their kids, and they treated them as such. Sirius appreciated it deeply, heâd found love, care, and appreciation there and he considered Effie more his mom than Walburga ever was. BIood be damned, family isnât about whatâs running through your veins but about the way you care and treat each other, and if anyone was family to him, it was his brother James, and his parents Effie and Monty.Â
This year had been no different, from the moment they arrived at the house, the smell of Christmas filled the air. Effie had prepared cookie dough for their yearly making of gingerbread houses. It was a small competition âEffie loved competitionsâ but they all had to build elaborate creations (with a magical twist) and then theyâd set them all on the counter and have the house elves judge and pick the best. Whoever won the contest got an extra gift on Christmas.
Sirius had won once, but Monty was always adding clever new magical things onto the houses, like last year when he made a snow globe house, with magical snow âactually sugarâ that would swirl around in the air sending positive Christmas words like âJoyâ and âMirthâ and even âHappy Hannukah!â, which according to him, was a muggle tradition from a different religion than the one Christmas had spawned from.Â
This year though, Effieâs recreation of the Big Ben, alongside the magic stars she had made float all around it had gotten the best of both Mellie and Picksie, the Potterâs house elves. And they had unanimously voted her the winner. She had been really pleased about the results, so pleased she had made a little victory dance, showing off her creation and making it the centre of the table.Â
Sirius saw the adoring look Monty had given her as she danced around, boasting her triumph, and he thought heâd never met a couple more loving than the two of them, but he wanted to match it, he wanted to make you feel the same way Monty made Effie felt all the time, but then he remembered Remus, and felt a pang on his chest, since he too wished he could make him as happy, which was obviously a contradicting thought to the first one.Â
âDarling, are you all right?â Effie asked when he noticed his frown. Sirius had relatively subtle expressions when he wanted to hide his feelings, something he had learned to do at home, the Stony Black look, but Effie knew that look well enough, and she instantly knew something was up with her boy.Â
Sirius turned to her with a short âHm?â as he got driven away from his own thoughts. âYeah, I was just thinking if sheâll like the gift I made her.âÂ
Effie smiled softly at that, sheâd been one of the people to encourage him to draw something for you, especially since she knew youâd been one of the first people heâd shown his art to. James had been very offended when he found out Remus had seen his art before he had and complained to his mother about it while they were making the gingerbread houses, which is how sheâd found out.Â
âI know Iâd love it if Monty made me a drawing, and heâs terrible at it, so Iâm certain she will,â she reassured him, âIf you want we can go out later and you can get her something else, though.âÂ
Sirius shook his head, he didnât want them to spend even more money on him than they already had, âNo, donât worry about it, Iâm probably just self-conscious.âÂ
Effie smiled, there was something heartwarming at seeing Sirius like this, he had never been nervous about a girl, in fact, she wasnât sure heâd even bothered to get a gift for one before, he looked like a love-sick puppy, it reminded him an awful lot of James, except you liked him back, unlike that Evans girl. Talking about that Evans girl. âSo, James is dating Lily now?âÂ
âHe somehow convinced her to go on a date,â Sirius said with a shrug, âthey went to the Slug Party together.âÂ
âReally?â Effie asked with raised eyebrows.Â
Sirius nodded in return, âBut I cannot give you any more details.âÂ
âItâs all right,â she said with a dismissive wave of her hand, âI can pry them off of him later.â She then turned back to Sirius, âYouâd think sheâd come if we invited her over for dinner with everyone or something? Maybe on New Yearâs?âÂ
Effie knew Lily, she had seen pictures of her and she had crossed a few words with her on those occasions she visited the school for a quidditch match. She thought she was a nice enough girl, but she had never had an actual conversation with her and she certainly wanted to do it now. Although, with how much James talked about her, she felt like she knew a good deal and she considered her a delightful young lady, except for the fact that she kept rejecting James.Â
âIâm not sure, she might if Vix comes,â Sirius responded with a shrug, âtheyâre really good friends.âÂ
Effie smiled in a sort of devilish way, the same smile Prongs had when he had a good idea for a prank, and gave a short pat in the head to Sirius (which she had gotten a habit of doing back when he was much shorter than her) and walked towards the kitchen.Â
Sirius decided to go for a broom ride to clear his mind, James and Peter tagged along with him and they ended up racing around the house at insanely fast speeds, fast enough for Siriusâ hair tie to loosen up and leave his hair flowing wildly behind him, and somehow also fast enough to have his mind be cleared of those thoughts he kept having of both you and Remus. Peter left early since his parents called for him, while the other boys decided to play a game of Magic Chess back in the living room.Â
By dinner, both of them had already eaten half of the gingerbread houses they had made, and some other fancy treats Monty liked to cook for the smaller Christmas Eve dinner they always had. Sirius thought it was fantastic since they almost had two parties instead of one. The first time he stayed at the Potterâs he had been so thrilled that he had accidentally blown up some of the decorations. Effie taught him an advanced version of reparo, and the two of them fixed the place together after that.
This time, Monty had asked for their help with the cooking, since Effie had gone out with the elves to buy more stuff for tomorrowâs dinner. It would be rather small, very few people had been invited due to the war and the fact that not many wizards knew which side the other was on, but Effie was set on having the place be as nice as ever.Â
Monty loved cooking, he had at some point mentioned that it was like making potions and that there was something oddly satisfying with how a bit of heat and a few spices could make even the most boring of dishes get filled with flavour, and he was set on teaching James, and by extension Sirius, how to cook.Â
âPerhaps you could make a cake for Lily,â he said as he passed James the measured flour for him to add, âyour mother loved it when I sent her homemade cupcakes.âÂ
âYou did that?â Sirius asked with raised eyebrows.Â
âMhm,â Monty nodded, âbeat that a bit faster,â âhe said politely as he pointed at the egg whites Sirius had been tasked with fluffing upâ âShe said she liked men with cooking skills and I asked my mum to help me with it, she sent me a bunch of cooking books and here we are now. James, have you added the cinnamon?âÂ
âEhâŠâ James thought about it for a second and looked around the counter. The cinnamon was pretty far from where he stood, âdonât think so,â he admitted.Â
âThatâs all right, Iâll add it for you,â he said and waved his wand, in an instant the cinnamon container was lifted up and after shaking softly three times and after dropping some cinnamon over Jamesâ dry ingredient mix, it went back to its place on the table. Then Fleamont went back to cutting the apples into small pieces. âWhen youâre done with that James, please add some butter to the pans.âÂ
âOkay,â James said with a nod and got busy with his task. The three of them were surprisingly efficient in the kitchen. They hadnât been like that the first time around, but Monty decided they had to know how to âat leastâ make soup if they were ever going to live alone one day and had them take an intensive course a couple of summers ago. Both James and Sirius had gotten much better grades at potions after that, especially because Monty, being such an expert potioneer, had taught them to cook with potion-making techniques.Â
He hadnât done it intentionally, but he was pretty satisfied with the result, especially when Effie praised him for being so clever and entertaining the kids with cooking while also teaching them something. He took the credit for being slick with a smile.Â
By the time they were done with the cake preparations, the food was ready to pull out of the oven. Monty and Sirius took the stuff out and passed it to James who took it to the table that Effie and Picksie were setting up while they focused on revising the temperature and placing the cakes in the oven. They had made three cakes, a chocolate cake that was Jamesâ favourite, a carrot cake that Monty loved and an apple crumble one that both Sirius and Effie were mad about.Â
Effie had gotten some extra treats for the boys, and she had even gotten some Shepherd's Pie from a muggle place called âThe Wingmoreâ that Monty loved. They had a delicious family dinner together, with cookies, pie and baked potatoes. They caught up with each other, and both Monty and Effie teased James about Lily mercilessly. Then Monty mentioned something about having âThe Talkâ with James and Sirius had to cough it in order to hide a cackle.Â
Prongs had kicked him under the table while Effie had appeared a glass of water for him so he could take a drink, and Sirius had thanked her with the soft charming smile of his that made all the girls swoon, James glared at him for it, and the other boy winked at him brazenly. If it went something like the talk Monty had given him 2 years ago when he started dating around, James might not survive it.Â
Sirius walked back to Jamesâ room and decided to wait there for him to tease him once his talk with Monty was over, but Sirius was pretty tired from a day filled with fun, and he fell asleep pretty much the second he hit Jamesâ bed.Â
He woke up a few minutes later when he felt a heavy leg over his own. He opened his eyes confused, thinking it was warm, but also that it smelled weird. Or perhaps not weird, just⊠not the way it should smell. It smelled of cedar, firewood, mint and summer breeze, not like books, parchment, chocolate and you. He blinked his eyes open and spotted Jamesâ arm draped over his chest and his leg on top of both of his own. He was cuddling Sirius like he cuddled his pillows.Â
âProngs,â he said softly, but the boy just snuggled deeper into him. âProngs!â he repeated. âProngs, what the fuck!âÂ
James frowned and looked at Sirius as if he had been wronged, âWhat do you want?âÂ
âWhy are you cuddling me?âÂ
âYouâre in my bed,â the boy responded with a shrug.Â
âSo what? Donât you know about personal space?âÂ
Bold fucking words for Sirius Black, James thought.
âJust shut up, Iâm tired.âÂ
âNo, get off me!â Sirius said as he tried to pry Jamesâ legs off of him, but James was heavier, and at this point, he was determined to piss Sirius off after being so wrongly accused.Â
âPads!â James complained. âJust let me sleep, mate.âÂ
âNot until you get off.âÂ
âYou never tell Remus to get off,â James huffed and tightened his grip.Â
What?
You never tell Remus to get off.
You never tell Remus to get off.
YOU NEVER TELL REMUS TO GET OFF!
Sirius opened his eyes wide as he looked at the ceiling, completely in shock as he let the words sink in. He looked to the side, trying to hide the panic, âThatâs different,â he managed to muster.Â
âHow is it different? Iâm your best mate anyway, if youâre giving hugging concessions around, it should be to me.âÂ
How is it different? Yes Sirius, HOW IS IT FUCKING DIFFERENT?!? He wondered to himself. âItâs because of the smell of the pack?âÂ
âIs it? Really?â James asked, he was annoyed, and sleepy, and not quite thinking what he said, let alone how much it was affecting Sirius.Â
âOf course,â Sirius said defensively and pushed James off of him, turning his back to the boy as James rolled his eyes and did the same.Â
Prongs knew Sirius would be fine in the morning, but it would be a lie if he said he hadnât been a little offended by the way he got pushed off, he had seen how close he was to Remus lately, and it wasnât that he was jealous, but since when was Sirius closer to Moony than to him? Vixen he understood, he was head over heels for you, but Remus?!?Â
Since when was Pads so close to him?Â
Meanwhile, on the other side of the bed, Sirius had started to PANIC. There was something so raw about the words half-asleep James had said. Is it really about the smell of the pack? Was he using you as an excuse to cuddle Remus? Was he using his girlfriend⊠to cuddle his crush?Â
Perhaps he was a Black after all, it ran in his bIood, all wicked and malicious, cunning and devious. How could he shamelessly cuddle into Remus while you were right next to him? As if he didnât have a crush on his friend? As if he hadnât already admitted to himself that Remus was bIoody handsome? With his big broad shoulders and his intoxicating smell of books and chocolate, and a hint of you. With his messy brown hair and his kind smile, it was unfair really, for him to be so pretty and for Sirius to only have realised it now, now that he was happy, now that he had found someone.Â
When Sirius woke up, there was a pile of gifts on his side of the bed. James had decided to let him sleep in since he had been kind of annoyed at night and he didnât want to deal with cranky Sirius on Christmas, which is why he was quietly opening his gifts on the other side of the floor.Â
Sirius leaned over and threw him a look while peeking his head over the bed. When he noticed he smiled. âLook at thisâ â he pointed at a box of muggle Christmas-themed chocolatesâ âLily sent it, they even came with a small note, look,â he said as he passed the note to Sirius.Â
Sirius eyed him incredulously and took the small card in his hands before turning around on the bed to get himself comfortable, he cleared his throat, âDear James, I was walking along this Christmas market and they had these chocolates, the adorable elf on the side that looks way too excited to be in a box kind of reminded me off you. Hope you have an amazing Christmas. Love, Lily.âÂ
âYou read that? She said âLoveâ.âÂ
âMhm,â Sirius said with a smirk and turned around again to pick the box from the floor, âOh god is this the over-excited elf?â he said as he spotted a green-dressed short man on the side, he was wearing a very muggle Christmas outfit and had funny features, although his smile and eye colour did kind of match Jamesâ, it was like a bootleg version of him. Sirius couldnât help but cackle.Â
âOi! Donât make fun of it! She sent it with love.âÂ
âNot laughing at the gift, Iâm laughing at the resemblance,â Sirius added while he tried to catch his breath, James had snatched the box from him and carefully placed it next to his leg.Â
Sirius was still laughing when he saw some light coming from a small hand-held mirror he had placed on his nightstand. It was reflecting a small beam on the ceiling. It was an enchanted mirror he had stolen from his parents back when he still lived with them. He had used it to communicate with James on the longer summers, even if he couldnât actually talk through it.Â
Sirius frowned, âYou have the sister mirror to someone?âÂ
âRemus,â James said as he stood up and leaned across the bed, âsince he was going to be alone this Christmas,â he added. Sirius rolled to the side and then on the bed to reach the same belly-down position James was using and looked inside.Â
Remus, looking as handsome as ever, was on the other side, shirtless âto Siriusâ dismayâ and with his hair slightly messier than usual. Even his smile was so wide it looked like it would burst out of his face.Â
He waved at the boys and then pointed at a card he had in his hand. It said, âMerry Christmasâ.Â
Sirius looked around and pulled Jamesâ box from the floor, showing him the exact spot where it said âMerry Christmasâ as well.Â
Remus then picked up a small pen and wrote âThank you for the giftsâ on the side of his Christmas letters. Sirius winked in response, he knew Rem would like the book he got him. But he knew heâd especially love the drawing he made for him as well: it was a Wolf, a dog and a fox playing in the forest.Â
âYou made him a drawing too?â James asked with a gasp.
âYouâre telling me Mum got a drawing, Vix got a drawing, and Moony got a drawing, but I didnât?âÂ
âDidnât have enough time,â Sirius responded with a shrug. Remus, who was trying to read the boysâ lips and kind of got that he was among the few to get a drawing, couldnât help being filled with joy at the fact that Sirius had done something especially for him.Â
He then showed the boys all the music you had sent over and spent a while trying to sign something to James that neither he nor Sirius got properly, but he gathered something about you getting him a bunch of books.Â
âWhat did she get you?â James asked, turning to Sirius who frowned. He had been so busy looking at his friendâs gifts, that he had forgotten he had also received a few himself.Â
James placed the mirror at the end of the bed so Remus could see and they all finished unboxing their gifts. Sirius had gotten a CB radio from Remus. There were rather specific instructions on what to do with it, it had even been charmed so that it worked, even in Hogwarts.Â
âHello?â he asked as he pressed the button.Â
âHey!â Remus replied from the other side, he had a wide smile on his face, thrilled that it actually worked.Â
âOh, thatâs horrifying,â James said as he looked through Remus in the mirror and Sirius playing with the radio back in his room. âLike dark magic.âÂ
âJust science,â Remus said.
âDidnât you have to press a button so he can hear?â James asked as he took the radio from Siriusâ hand.Â
âI can read your lips, you dumbass,â Remus responded, and Sirius started to laugh.Â
James frowned and covered his mouth with his hands and turned to Sirius âPretend I said something awful about him.âÂ
âHe said youâre a smartass,â Sirius said as he pressed the button, Remus gave James a look, eyebrows raised.Â
âI didnâtââ he started and took back the radio, snatching it from Sirius with a lot more purpose, âI didnât say that! He made that up.âÂ
âWhy would I make that up?â Sirius said innocently.Â
âTo fuck with me.âÂ
Remus started to laugh from the other side, and then pressed the button, âWhat else did you get?âÂ
Sirius pulled another box while James started to play with the different buttons of the radio, âRead this first,â the longer-haired boy said as he passed the instructions to James who groaned but did as told.Â
Sirius had gotten a good deal of stuff. It wasnât weird that he got a bunch of gifts since he stayed at the Potters, his mother used to reject most of the gifts, but he had gotten tons of chocolate from girls every time he stayed over with James. Most of them would end up with Remusâ stash later on. This year he didnât get as many chocolates, but he still got a good deal of stuff, some from people he didnât even know.Â
âI swear every year he gets more stuff,â James said as he shook his head in disbelief. He had been partly to blame since he had gotten him a massive quidditch gear kit for morning practices. Peter had gotten him a magic puzzle that changed every few minutes. Andromeda had sent him some other cool muggle things sheâd found, and he was absolutely fascinated by the 8 ball sheâd gotten him. It was a ball that you could ask things to and when you turned it around it responded, like a divination device, except with no magic involved. The best part was the ridiculous things it said: âOutlook not so good, try asking your catâ, âAsk again later, I'm nappingâ, âSigns point to tacos. Always tacosâ and his personal favourite, and the main reason Dromeda had gotten it âAre you serious? (No, seriously, are you?)â.
She had also gotten both James, him, Remus and Peter, pet rocks. Now neither of them had a clue what that was, but Dromeda said all the cool kids had one of those with the muggles. The rock came in a box and had a rather detailed manual on how to take care of it, and even a back story claiming that it had been âtrainedâ in Mexico by a pet handler named Pedro.
âYou also got a rock?â Remus asked as he pulled one from the side and showed it to the boys through the mirror. Remusâ rock had his eyes slightly further apart than Siriusâ. âI named mine Cornelius.âÂ
âCornelius?â Sirius asked with a frown as he stared at his friendâs rock through the mirror, âNow that you mention it, it does kind of look like a Cornelius.âÂ
âMine will be Lily,â James said as he took him out of the box. It was a red-ish rock.Â
âYou canât name your pet Lily!âÂ
âItâs a rock,â James said with a shrug, âI can name it however I want.âÂ
âWhatâs yours?â he asked as he pointed at Siriusâ rock.
âItâs⊠Bowie.âÂ
âHm⊠love it,â James nodded as he stared at his friendâs rock. The two of them carefully placed them on the side table, as if they were actual, delicate pets and not just, rocks.Â
They continued opening their gifts, Sirius was absolutely fascinated with yours. He loved the drawing books and pens and markers, the mixtape that youâd gotten him and the watercolours, but he was pretty much obsessed with the penknife. He loved that it had his name on it and he used it to open the rest of his gifts, then he pocketed it and kept it with him the rest of the day.Â
He was helping Monty peel some potatoes âwith his penknife instead of a spellâ when James decided to tease him about it.Â
âYouâve been carrying that around all day,â he said as if it were a throwaway comment while he tried to make a pile of oranges.Â
âItâs super useful.âÂ
âOh, so it has nothing to do with the fact that it was a gift from Vixen?âÂ
Monty eyed Sirius with a knowing smile and went back to his cooking.Â
âThatâs just a bonus,â Sirius responded and placed the finished potato in the bowl. âItâs got my name on it, mate,â he said as he moved the knife to the side. âAlso, she mentioned she charmed it, but she said I had to figure out what the charm is.âÂ
âMaybe she just said that to have you think about it for ages, and itâs not actually charmed.âÂ
Sirius stopped moving for a second, looking at nowhere in particular as he considered the possibility before letting a short breath out and shaking his head, âNah, itâs got some kind of magic, I can feel it.âÂ
James, just to tease his friend, further shrugged with an unconvinced air, âIf you say so.âÂ
Sirius just took another potato and started peeling it with a small frown. He was about 80% sure he could feel magic on the knife. But he was surrounded by magic, in an extremely magical household, literally every single person around him could wield magic, so it was possible the knife was just reflecting the energies from his environment.Â
By dinner time, there were some more people in the house. Andromeda, Ted and their daughter Dora had been invited by the Potters since they knew how much Sirius loved seeing his cousin, but she had to skip the dinner since Dora had gotten a fever from playing all day in the snow. The Weasleys had also been invited, Dumbledore had introduced them to Monty a few years back and they were rather fond of each other, even if Arthur was much younger. He had arrived with Molly and their 3 sons: Bill, Charlie and the newborn Percy.Â
Bill had followed James around the moment he spotted him, and James had shown him some of his old toys, and they all played a game of Exploding Snap with Sirius. There were other Wizards there too, Alastor Moody, who had a very animated conversation with Arabella Fig, Elphias Dodge and both Seraphina Nightshade and her boyfriend Roan Elmore, whom James had met at the party shortly after you and Remus did.Â
âThatâs Roan, Seraphinaâs boyfriend.âÂ
âSheâs dating someone?â Sirius asked, amused. Seraphina was beautiful, the entire school knew that, but he had no idea she had been dating someone.Â
âYeah, he was at Slughornâs party,â James said and snapped his fingers and took a pair of identical cards, the cards shuffled themselves back onto the table.Â
âWhoâs Slughorn?â asked Billy as he snapped his fingers, Charlie just behind him, was attempting to do the same as his brother, but not quite managing to make a sound.Â
âThe Potions teacher,â Sirius responded as he placed his wand on top of one of the cards and snapped his fingers as well. The rest of the cards on the table started to explode and then they shuffled themselves back together. âYou probably wonât like him.âÂ
âI wonât?â Bill asked, his red eyebrows furrowing just a little bit, Sirius thought he looked cute, and he didnât like little kids all that much.Â
âHe might,â James said with a shrug.Â
âHe wonât if heâs one of the good ones,â Sirius retorted and then snapped his fingers and took a pair of cards.Â
âI donât like him at all then,â Bill said with determination, he definitely wanted to fit in with the cool crowd, that obviously being the older boys: Sirius and James. He didnât need to do much, both boys already liked Bill, if he were their age, heâd probably be part of their gang.Â
âMe neither,â Charlie added, âUnless he has a dragon.âÂ
âCharlie, people donât have dragons,â Bill said in a rather exasperated tone, as if it wasnât the first time heâd said something like that and then snapped his fingers, taking a pair of cards.Â
Charlie tried to do the same and snapped his fingers, only for them to make no sound again. âBut they could,â he insisted, sighed as if he too was tired of having that same argument with Bill and then walked towards Mrs. Weasley, she was talking to Effie about something in a rather hushed tone while Mr. Weasley struggled to get Percy to stop crying a few feet from them.Â
Sirius was about to snap his fingers again when he felt a sharp pain in his hand, âah fuck,â he said as he pulled his hand from the table.Â
âYou all right?â James asked, as he snapped his fingers and took the cards Sirius was going to take.Â
Sirius was staring at his palm confused, the scar from the scary witchcraft store had hurt almost in the same way it had when the necklace burned it on his hand. It was a lot less visible now, but the pain had been the same.
It wasnât the first time it happened. It had sometimes bothered him back in the day, but it had never been as sharp as today. And it had kind of stopped since you came to Hogwarts. He assumed it must have been some kind of protean charm, but he had no idea how, and if he could use it at all. All he knew was that it hurt sometimes, and it reminded him of you, which he really didnât like thinking back when you werenât around.Â
âYeah, I think I bit myself or something,â he lied and turned back to the game, snapping his fingers and taking another pair of cards.
James eyed him suspiciously and then the cards shuffled on the table again, completely stealing his train of thought, especially when Bill snapped his fingers and took the pair of cards he was about to take.Â
In the end, Bill won the game. He was awfully good for a six-year-old, and both Sirius and James were a bit out of practice.Â
âThere you go,â Sirius said as he passed him 3 sickles.Â
âThank you,â Bill said, by then Charlie had already come back and was tugging on his brotherâs pants. âCharlie, I won them,â he complained as James paid up.Â
âIf I could play, Iâd win too!â Charlie complained, âI want to save for the toy dragon at Whimsy Wonders.âÂ
âWell, technically, he helped Bill, didnât he?â James asked, eyeing Sirius.Â
âOh yeah, moral support,â Sirius agreed. âI feel like we owe him for that as well.âÂ
Charlieâs face glowed looking at them. âNo, he wasnât playing,â Bill said.Â
âOh, but he was,â James said and handed Charlie a sickle, Sirius did the same. âYou wouldnât have won without him, right?âÂ
Bill frowned, as if about to say he was perfectly capable of winning without Charlie pestering him about dragons, but there was something on Jamesâ gaze that had him hold it. He sighed, âOf course, Charlie helpedâŠâÂ
Charlie smiled widely and ran towards Mrs. Weasley. âMom, Mom, Look!â he said. âWe beat the older kids!â he repeated. James chuckled as he saw the small boy jump about, and then Monty called everyone towards the table.Â
The Potterâs party table was long and round, with different panels that rolled inside to have the food and snacks pass around and stay within everyoneâs reach. Of course, wizards could just float whatever they needed their way, but both Monty and Effie thought it was annoying to have the salad dressing and bread basket cover the face of the person they were trying to talk to so they designed the table to be able to have a pleasant conversation.Â
Sirius was sitting in between James and Charlie, who was determined to sit with them even if he was meant to sit with his brother. Sirius didnât mind it much, Charlie mostly talked about dragons, and for a 4-year-old, he seemed to have encyclopedic knowledge of them. While Bill, who was always listening to him go on and on about dragons, found it annoying, Sirius and James thought it was actually interesting.Â
He was telling Sirius about the Ukrainian Ironbelly and how he wanted to get a wand with a dragon heartstring core when he turned 11 when Monty stood up and thanked everyone for coming to the party, which prompted Charlie into silence.Â
Montyâs speech was heartfelt and honest, just like he was all the time, and while he didnât explicitly say anything related to the war, he did mention that they were living in dark times, and for such reason, it was time to keep those whom you love at an armâs length, to take care of each other and to check up on them as often as possible. He said that sometimes even the simplest of messages made the difference.Â
When his speech was done, there was a small toast, and then they got to eat. Sirius dived straight for the potato souffle since he had helped with the preparation and thought the amount of cheese they had added was mouth-watering, he also waited a couple of seconds for the inside panels of the table to spin around so he could reach for some of Montyâs special turkey. He had tried it the first Christmas he spent with the Potters and since then he always waited eagerly for dinner time to be able to eat it again.Â
He had even asked Monty for the recipe, but he had never gotten around to preparing it himself, although this Christmas Monty had him do some of the garlic mincing and spices blending for him, so he learned all the techniques. Sirius was more than happy to help, he found the kitchen to be a relaxing place (as long as it was the Potterâs kitchen and Monty was the head chef).
Effie was a lot more demanding in the kitchen, and if he had never dared to enter the one in Grimmauld Place, he was sure to come out as a roasted chicken instead of with one. Kreacher had always been awful to him, and the kitchens were his and Walburgaâs territory exclusively.Â
Sirius was about to take another bite of his turkey, Charlie was talking about a Common Welsh Green and how elegant he thought they were when he felt another pang on his hand. Sharper and a lot more concentrated this time around. He dropped his fork and it clanged against the plate. He looked up, worried, out of habit more than anything, only to realise he was at home, and not with Walburga where he might have been awfully reprimanded.Â
With the Potters it was different, in fact, Monty gave him a short questioning look, clearly asking if he was all right, to which Sirius nodded. Monty went back to his talk and allowed James to check on Sirius instead. Meanwhile, Effie raised her voice just a little, covering up for the loud sound Sirius had caused and Molly laughed loudly at something Alastor said. Sirius looked around with a small smile.Â
Yeah, this is home, he thought as he pulled his hand towards him and placed his thumb over the already faded scar.
âMate, thatâs the second time today,â James said, looking at Sirius with a frown.Â
âI donât know whatâs with it either,â he admitted with a shrug.Â
âYou wanna skip dessert? Go sleep?âÂ
âNah, Iâm sure itâs nothing,â Sirius lied, trying to push aside the unsettling feeling gnawing at his mind. It had been months since it last troubled him, and this time it felt worse, not even in the aftermath of Mexico when he discovered how annoying it could be, but back then he assumed it was just the healing process, he didnât know about Protean charms and, even now, he didnât know why it was happening, perhaps then he would have reacted faster.Â
Regardless of the uneasiness, Sirius intended to enjoy the dinner, and he did, in between eating, joking with James and hearing Charlie talk about dragons, he was distracted from the pain so often that by the time he went to sleep, he had almost completely forgotten about the discomfort. That was until he actually fell asleep.Â
In his dream, Sirius found himself in an eerie scene, surrounded by his family, yours, Evan, Arkalis, and even the Dark Lord. Regulus was speaking to him, then he cast a hex on his brother, and suddenly they were torturing Muggles. Thatâs when he realised he wasnât himself; he was seeing things through your eyes as if you had lent them to him.
He saw his cousin Bella and then your friend, Nina who was being tortured with an unforgivable. Thatâs when you reacted, there was a fire. Not any fire, Fiendfyre. The massive Chimera you created was burning everything in its wake. Chaos ensued, lives were lost, and you fled.
He saw how you ran alongside Nina until you were further enough away, but Lucius showed up out of nowhere. You duelled him, almost won, but Nina was hit by a stunning spell and you lost it, throwing yourself over her and crying, desperate to bring her back, but she wasnât responding. There was a blinding light and he heard Bartyâs voice.
âSirius!â a voice called from a distance. âSIRIUS!â
He jolted awake, with a confused gaze as if trying to get back to reality, âJames?âÂ
âYouâve been muttering Vixenâs name over and over, and youâre sweating,â James said, his hand on Siriusâs forehead. âI think you were having a nightmare.â
Sirius frowned, his pulse fast and his breathing short, still struggling to ground himself. The dream had felt so real as if he really had been you, as if he really had gone through all that stuff, perhaps he had drunk too much of that Dragon Wine after listening to Charlie go on and on about how the process of slowly heating the conserve with dragon breath was âso fascinatingâ.Â
Itâs not that he didnât think it was interesting, but no matter what you said, Charlie found a way to connect it with dragons and after a while, it did get dizzying. Â
âYeah, it was awful,â Sirius admitted. âThank Merlin it was just a dream.â
James nodded and threw himself next to Sirius, taking the rock Andromeda had given him and tossing it from hand to hand. Back when they were smaller, James would sleep with Sirius whenever he had a nightmare. It reminded Sirius of Reggie and he always felt a lot more at ease when he wasnât alone on the bed. He didnât do it much anymore, Siriusâ nightmares had decreased, and he had also gotten a lot better at hiding when he had some.Â
âIâll go take piss,â Sirius said as he stood up. James threw him a side glance and watched his friend walk all the way to the bathroom attentively. He wasnât sure when had been the last time Sirius had had such a distressing nightmare, and the fact that it had to do with you, must have been even more upsetting.Â
He understood it much better now that he had Lily, he wanted to protect her more than anything in this world and the thought of something, anything, happening to her was enough to make his bIood run cold. He was scared of things happening to her, and he assumed Sirius must have been just as scared of things happening to you. Especially with how things were now. At least you were a pure-bIood, not as much of a target for deatheaters as Lily was.Â
In truth, James had sent notes to Lily every day since he got home, not because he missed her so dreadfully that he couldnât go a day without talking to her âwhich was also kind of true- but because he was terrified he wouldnât see her again. There were rumours of death eaters going for muggle-borns now. And James had read about a student from 2nd year disappearing along with her family last month. Nobody knew where Jane Bishop and her parents were.Â
Sirius walked towards the bathroom as quietly as possible, he didnât know the time, but he didnât want to wake up anybody by accident either. He went straight to the sink and tried to wash the sweat off his face, letting some of the water pool in the sink to be able to clean his neck better. When he dug his hand into the water, is when he realised things hadnât been just a nightmare.
He felt like he had been hit in the stomach and stumbled back a couple of steps until his back crashed against the back wall, then he saw Barty right in front of him, throwing a stunning spell at his face. He didnât move, but the bathroom dissolved behind him and he appeared to be sitting in the snow, looking up at the Shrieking Shack, completely surrounded by snow. His eyes, although actually opened, slowly closing and opening again.Â
One moment he was there, and the next, he saw James crouching right in front of him, with a concerned expression.Â
âIt wasnât a dream,â Sirius managed to mumble.Â
âWhat?âÂ
âIt wasnât a dream!â he repeated a little louder, grabbing onto the towel rack to stand back up again, James helped pull him up and he bolted out of the bathroom.Â
James looked at his friend and waved his wand over the mess, all things slowly going back into place, the faucet closing and the sink emptying as he walked behind Sirius.Â
âWhat do you mean by that?âÂ
âI think shit went down at Rosierâs Christmas party,â Sirius muttered as he paced around the room, âAnd it was because of Vixen.âÂ
âWhen you say shit went downâŠâÂ
âI mean Fiendfyre and dĐ”ad people,â Sirus said looking up at James with a stony expression. âBut thatâs⊠she somehow ended up in the Shack, Barty stunned her just outside-âÂ
âSiriusââ James said in a comforting tone.Â
âWe need to do something, she might get hypothermia if she stays out for too long, sheââÂ
âSirius!â James called again, a lot more stern now, grabbing onto his friendâs shoulders and shaking him to get his attention. âAre you sure it wasnât a nightmare?â Sirius swallowed thickly, his eyes watering as he nodded. James took a deep breath, âOkay, Iâll talk to my parents, we can confirm withââÂ
âNo!! Sirius said, snapping out of James. âIt was real, and sheâs alone, in the snow, pretty much passed out, we have to do something. Maybe I can apparate there orââÂ
âYouâll splinch.âÂ
âDamn it, James!â Sirius snapped. âI canât just sit here and do nothing!âÂ
âRemus!â James said, looking up at Sirius.Â
âRemus?â Sirius asked, confused.Â
âHeâs at school, he can take the passage andââ Sirius didnât even let James finish, he had already run towards the mirror and the radio, flashing the mirror with lumos and shouting at the small microphone.
âSirius?â Remus asked confused from the other side of the line. Â
Sirius was quick to fill him in, and Remus had put a coat on in seconds.Â
âWait!â James said as Remus pocketed the mirror and walked towards the door. Remus took the mirror out and looked at the two boys. âWhat if itâs a trap?âÂ
âIf Vixenâs in danger, I donât care if itâs a trap,â Remus said, with the same determination as Sirius when he was about to risk splinching.Â
âRemus?â Sirius said, doubtful.Â
âYeah?â the boy responded through the radio.Â
âJust be careful, okay?âÂ
âI will,â the boy reassured and pocketed the mirror again.Â
After that, there was radio silence.Â
Sirius paced around the room, Monty and Effie had woken up and walked towards them. Effie had a note in her hand and seemed to be hesitating to speak.
âWhat is it?â Sirius asked.Â
Effie looked to the side and wet her lips before looking back at her boy. âItâs her mother, Avisâ âshe hesitatedâ âSheâs dĐ”ad.â Effie said as she let out a short breath, âthere was dark magic that went out of control, Rosier Manor was badly damaged. No one knows where she is.âÂ
âSheâs not there,â Sirius reassured.Â
Effie frowned and James explained to both of his parents what had happened. Monty went to place a hand on Siriusâ back as they sat on the bed. The boyâs leg kept bouncing, but there was no news, neither from you nor from Remus. All he could see was the dark fabric from Remusâ pocket through the mirror.

So I then spent most of yesterday in a "there are so many things I want to do that I'm never going to have time to write them all" self-induced haze which was uh. real fun!
I also had a nursery storytime sprung on me like five minutes before it happened but at least I was the third and didn't have to be useful the rest of the day lmao (and then spent an hour on two separate buses to change libraries in the middle of the shift because there wasn't anyone closer??)
anyway. I have, in fact, shifted the fics out of the in progress folder and back to their respective places in the rest of my docs. They were of an earlier time!! I haven't. really. thought of them in at least a year if not longer lmao so like
yeah they're not getting finished and I'll only feel a little bad about it occasionally I guess??
I'm gonna continue doing what I do best which is uhhhh jump between several different projects and just fuck about scene by scene. If things get finished then hell yeah that is very fun but like. not the point currently, y'know?
so I like really dislike leaving things unfinished, y'know? sometimes a first draft is just enough to let it rest and sometimes things never get written and that's all fine 'n' that but like
idk i was just looking through my folders and found all the fanfic I used to write and had to stop/pull away from for my own sake and like. some of this is p dang good, y'know? ok one of the docs is dated as fckn 2017 but like I was onto something there
and I would still like to finish it I think and I still have the plans for most of this but also jesus christ there are not enough hours in the day and focusing is harddd
anyway I've dumped some of it into ellipsus so it may hit the "i work on this at work" style of things lmao
#it's just. everyone has always said ''ah you're wanting to get published right''#and like. sure etf got self published as a bit. but I don't know if I have the follow through for anything more#I do wish I hadn't got that stuck in my head#are any of these ever going to be publishable? fuck if I know. having fun thođ#anyway gonna go set up the next five or so prompts in the notebook and uh. maybe have breakfast. possibly go to work#FUCK HEY GUESS WHAT ELSE I'VE HAD SPRUNG ON ME#it's old people this time. It's another library's work. I'm so tired of doing their event prep (and their event this time somehow)#like c'mon you knew this was this week. why'd you have to go organise your full-library training for today.#what was the thought process there#I'm telling you we'd better get something *good* out of them when they go back to their own branch#. it'll probably be a box of chocolates. which I shouldn't eat.#anyhow. tuesdays right?

â unplanned sleepover
Leon Kennedy x f!reader
rated e - 828 words
tags: fluff, comfort, you were both in Raccoon City and it gave you trauma, thunderstorms, panic attacks, hair play, both DSO agents, established relationship, let me know if I missed any
prompt: doing each other's hair from angellilacs
dividers: saradika graphics
notes: Though I adore all versions of Leon and his ever changing hair and eye colors, Death Island Leon is my Leon of choice to swoon over.
A thunderstorm leaves you stranded at the DSO with Leon, resulting in an unexpected sleepover.
You and your boyfriend shared many things in common. You were both agents within the Division of Security Operations and had seen firsthand what bio-terrorism could inflict on an innocent town. While Leon's experience in Raccoon City on his first day as a rookie cop was nightmarish in it's own right, you have been a civilian in that same town fortunate enough to get to safely before the virus spread rapidly. This experience left you both with scars, physical and mental.
Shortly after you had arrived at the DSO, you met Leon. Your desk was close to his, and both of you constantly found yourselves working late in order to research cases and complete reports. As if you were both driven to prevent bioweapons from having the same disastrous impact ever again. What was once a strong friendship blossomed into something more.
It was a normal Tuesday. Both you and Leon had grabbed a quick dinner at the cafeteria. A slice of cheese pizza and a rather pathetic looking salad for yourself, while Leon opted for spaghetti and breadsticks. It was only after you had both settled back at your respective desks that thunder shook the entire building. You flinched in surprise, glancing over at Leon to see his blue eyes go wide as well.
You drew a sharp inhale, feeling the familiar tightness in your chest and your heart began to race. Maybe it was the flash of lightning but it seemed like the room was shifting before your eyes. Your hands trembled as your nails dug into your wooden desk.
Leon's concerned form was suddenly by your side, his warm hand lightly cupping your cheek as he took in your pale face.
"Sweetheart? Will you come with me?
You manage a nod, taking his hand as he leads you out of the office into a stairwell. Traveling down two flights of stairs, Leon guides you into the isolated training room with a firm but gentle hand on your lower back.
You ease yourself shakily on the training mat typically used for sparring before finally mumbling a semi coherent sentence.
"I think I'm gonna pass out."
"I know. You're okay. I'm here. Nothing can hurt you. I promise."
His hands gently guide your trembling fingers to his chest, an attempt to ground you from your panicked thoughts. You manage a deep inhale, the rush of cool air bringing a brief sense of clarity. Something Leon once told you he did when something set him on edge.
Find five things you can see. You gaze seeks out Leon's soft eyes, his navy blue dress shirt, the black sparring mat on the floor, nearby silver folding chairs and numerous blankets.
Next, find four things you can touch. Your roaming fingers card through Leon's soft hair, then trail down his polyester shirt before lacing through his fingers.
"My heart, that's three things you can touch. Give me one more?
You laugh at his prompting, moving your combined hands down to touch the cool foam mat.
"I'm good. Mostly. Thank you."
You wrap your arms around Leon, resting your chin on his shoulder as you breath him in. He smells faintly of fresh snow and cranberries, of home. He drops a kiss onto the crown of your head before pulling back slightly to study you.
"I have a plan. Will you be okay for a moment?"
"A plan? Leon, you don't plan. You launch yourself chaotically at a situation and hope it doesn't blow up in your face."
Leon chuckles at your teasing before rising. He moves around the room, gathering chairs and blankets. He arranges them around you in a makeshift fort before climbing next to you and drawing you into his arms.
Within the blanket castle the sound of the storm is muffled. You rest your head lightly on Leon's chest, his heartbeat steady and reassuring. Surpringsly, you both manage to dose off within the safety of each other's arms.
The next morning, both phone alarms sound like blaring bullhorns. You fumble for the phones blindly while Leon sleepily buries his head in your shoulder. Finally silencing the noise pollution, you run a hand through his messy hair.
"An unplanned sleepover in the training room. We've slept worse places."
Your voice is thick with sleep as you gently smooth down Leon's tousled locks. In turn, his own fingers detangle your own messy hair, the once neat updo long ruined by a long night. He pulls out the bobby pins and hair tie almost reverently, pressing a kiss to the your temple before he braids your hair in a simple three strand braid. Something he'd picked up after months of watching you do it in the bathroom while getting ready for work. You gaze up at him.
"There. Perfect."
You lean back, smoothing out a few wrinkles in his shirt before you ease down the walls of the blanket fort. Leon stands, offering you his hand.
"Yes, you are."

Pesky Period Pains
Prompt: Cramping Pain
Pairings: Wandanat x R
Word count: 2.3K
Summary: you had managed to stave off periods but you could only do that for so long. But its very hard to hide things in the compound especially from your girlfriends.
TW: pain medicine, blood, period, cramps, bleeding on the bed (idk if that a warning or not lol), non-sexual nudity, Reader has their clothes removed (not in a bad way though donât worry ⊠youâll see), hiding injuries / sickness, slight angst,
A/n whats this? A fic without vomiting for once? Crazy.
Curled up in bed the day had been going well until you realised you took to long to get more of your birth control. Your doctor had put you on birth control in your early teens before you became and avenger, your cramps being too painful for you to function and resulting in you missing a-lot of school. But you ran out last week and your ADHD had been kicking your ass lately so you forgot about the much needed trip to the chemist. Thinking you could just go tomorrow as its not like your period would appear over night. wrong.
Nat and Wanda were training in the gym like they did every Tuesday while you slept in. But when you realised with the first pang of pain in your midsection that it was a little too late for the birth control to stave off the period pains, you groaned. stuffing your face back into your pillow, before swallowing the urge to scream in frustration. you got up and threw on a pad before getting dressed quickly. you were craving chocolate. you could survive the cramps until after breakfast, and you couldnât take painkillers on an empty stomach.
you had just finished drowning your pancakes in chocolate syrup and were not throwing back the tablets and some water when your girlfriends arrived. Nat smiled widely and came over to kiss you and hug you. âDetka,â you groaned, âyour all gross and sweaty.â nat squeezed you in the hug chuckling before planting a kiss on your forehead. Wanda didnât seem as happy. she sensed your discomfort before she even made it into the door. to be honest she sensed it from the gym, feigning exhaustion in favour of ending training early to check on you.
âwhat were you doing before we got here?â Wanda asked, hands crossed over her chest.
âmaking pancakes.â you shrugged, hiding a grimace as it jostled your midsection.
âi saw you put something in your mouth, Y/n donât lie to me.â she was more concerned than angry but it did come across that way to you.
âi. was. eating. my. pancakes. Wanda.â you grit out, glad it seemed more like annoyance than the fact another cramp had hir rather hard.
âwhatever.â Wanda dismissed angrily walking to get herself some pancakes. Nat frowned, normally Wanda was really sweet with you, only ever stern if you were being stubborn. she shrugged at you and followed Wanda to get some breakfast, only having had her pre workout shake so far. you didnât wait for them, quickly finishing your pancakes and going to take a shower.
the girls frowned at your empty place when they returned and Wanda sighed. âsomethings up with her nat i can sense it.â
meanwhile you stepped under the warm water, watching the red circle the drain and letting the heat relax your muscles. when another cramp hit you rested your head on your arm which steadied you against the wall. you didnât want to risk leaving blood in your shared bathroom knowing nat was see it with her spy training, she noticed everything. Wanda would just freakout if she knew you were bleeding but didnât know where from. And most importantly you didnât want to bother them with your problems, feeling you were being a bit too needy lately having been sick the week before last.
you had come back to your old room, the one you stayed in before moving it with your girls. it was still your space. your gaming computer was still here, your switch and all your drawing stuff and tablet. your posters of Percy Jackson and your girlfriends still adorned the walls and the rainbow lights still worked above your desk. the bed had black sheets and you even still had some of your clothes in here. your many sketchbooks sat on the floating shelf by the desk and your blue couch and fluffy red blanket were still in the corner. the 84inch tv, courtesy of tony was mounted on the wall opposite the bed and you had painted a mural of the city scape on the far wall. it was as much your home as the room across the hall. your girls often found you in here during the day either drawing or gaming.
but you hadnt showered in here since moving to sleep over the hall. nat heard the running water as she went past, assuming you had done it so she could shower after her training this morning, she shrugged it off. unusual but not insane.
once you turned the water off you carefully towel dried yourself trying to avoid getting blood on the fluffy towel. getting dressed in fluffy pants and your oversized red hoodie nat had bought you at Disneyland, the one with the big picture of Mickey mouse on the front, you went and laid on the bed. after mindlessly scrolling through Netflix and putting on a random movie you snuggled up. after a few minutes the exhaustion of your body rebuilding an organ wiped you out and you fell asleep.
Wanda carefully opened the door to your room. frowning at yhe sight of you curled up asleep in the middle of the day. this was unlike you. the tv had an action movie playing and the sound of gunfire should have woken you up, but you slept on. Wanda turned out the lights and muted the tv before going to talk to nat.
âIâm telling you nat somethingâs off, shes been acting weird all day.â
âIâm sure shes fine, shes a big girl wands.â nat sighed drying her hair with a towel.
âi donât know, you know how it is when shes hurt, she wont tell us even if shes bleeding out on the floor.â Wanda huffed pacing and running her hands through her hair.
âwhy donât we go cuddle up to her in bed and weâll talk to her when shes up again?â
âokâ Wanda sighed in defeat.
after carefully lifting the sheets and sliding in either-side of you nat took the tv remote frowning at the cheesy action movie.
âyou cant even shoot arrows like that in real life.â she grumbled putting on something that Wanda would like. a sit com.
still asleep you curled up around Wandaâs leg as she lent against the headboard and ran her hands through your hair.
âshe looks so fragile when she sleeps natty.â Wanda cooed
âthats because its hard to be a cocky asshole when your sleeping.â nat teased. but it wasnât fun without your sharp come backs to quip against her.
ânaaattt leave her alone shes cute when she sleeps.â looking down at you she noticed a grimace on your face when you held onto her leg tighter. thinking you were having a nightmare she went to wake you. unbeknownst to her it was just the medicine having worn off and the painfully cramps coming back full force. before Wanda could gently wake you, you shot up, blinking rapidly before feeling the wetness of the bed and shooting off the bathroom to change clothes. Wanda and nat frowned at each-other, you hadnât even noticed them. nat hopped up and knocked on the door.
ây/n/n? can i come in?â she asked. you froze. what were they doing here.
âY/n/n?â nat asked again.
ânatty⊠um you should come here.â Wanda quietly said from the bed. she had pulled back the sheets to find a wet bloodstain on the sheets. Natâs eyes widened almost comically.
ây/n let us in right now.â she banged her fists on the door. just as she swung to knock the door down you opened it, her foot stopping mid air as she tried not to kick you or fall over. at the sight of your bloody clothes she jumped into action. extending your arms with her hands she searched your body before stopping and looking you dead in the eyes.
âstrip.â she said. you balked.
âwhat?â
âyou heard me. strip. or iâll have Wanda use her wiggly woos to do it for me.â
ânatty-â
âNo.â
âwands-â
âIâm with nat on this one sweetheart. we need to know your ok.â Wanda cooed softly having walked in behind nat.
âIâm fi-â
âif you were going to say your fine we found your blood on the sheets. so we know your not.â
before you were able to reply you were hit with a rather painful cramp that made you double over in an attempt to stop the pain. you groaned loudly and both your girls sprung into action. they knew you didnât get periods so that couldnât be it. but the last mission was weeks ago and you hadnât left the compound without them since. so how did you get hurt? Nat was at your side in an instance. ây/n/n baby where does it hurt?â she ran a hand down your back up and down your spine. you merely groaned in response still hunched over.
âwands Iâm gonna need you to-â
âdonât worry it got it.â she replied. before you could think you felt the cold air hit as you were suddenly without clothes. Natâs eyes grew wide as she saw the red between your legs. you felt tears slide down your cheeks as the girls understood. they had seen you naked before so it didnât bother you plus you knew you were safe with your girlfriends.
âoh sweetheart.â Wanda cooed, picking you up. âdid you get your period love?â
more tears fell as she carried you bridal style to the bath. with a wave of her wrist there was warm water in the tub and her clothes were also gone. gently she hopped in placing you curled up in her lap. nat removed her clothes to show toned muscle and slipped in beside her. it was a big tub, tony was not one to spare expenses much to peppers dismay when she first brought home Morgan to find a car already with custom plates with Morganâs name on it in the garage.
âtony what the hell is this?â she had asked pointing to the car, Morganâs carseat in her hand.
âwell its called planning my dear wife.â
âplanning is writing it out on paper not buying it 16 years early.â
Wanda chuckled at the memory before focusing back on your. she carded a hand though your hair and you whined softly.
âgonna made the water dirty.â you whined âand i ruined my hoodie.â you sniffled âthe one you and natty bought me from disneyland.â you cried. nat rubbed a circle on your back knowing this was the work of pesky hormones but doing nothing to invalidate your feelings. Wanda smiled down at you.
âwhy are you smiling.â you sobbed.
âoh sweetheart do you forget i have magic sometimes.â Wanda cooed
âoh.â you hiccuped.
âits already clean and folded on the bed which has fresh sheets.â she started kissing you all over your face, tasting the salty tears. âand natty and I will buy you ten more if we need to. anything for our sweet girl.â
âeven the goofy one?â you smiled looking up with teary eyes.
nat chuckled. they were so whipped for you. âanything you can ever dream of of my love.â nat cooed. âand whatever we can buy with the new black master-card i have from tony.â
âhow-â you were going to ask how but another cramp hit and tears flooded your eyes as blood swirled in the bathwater.
âoh sweetheart donât cry.â Wanda cooed seeing the water was making you upset she waved her hand and the blood disappeared from the water.
âhoney i wouldnât care if the bath was 100% blood as long as your ok. i would do anything for you.â
âwe.â nat corrected âwe would do anything for you.â Wanda rubbed circles over your stomach and her fingers glowed a soft red hue in the bath water as she took away some of the pain for you. you sighed in relief at her magic touch.
âand to answer your question, all it took was a little blackmail.â you laughed at her smirk.
âcome one love lets get you washed up.â
when Wanda had finished scrubbing your body clean for you, you were too tired to do it yourself. nat dried you with a towel and slipped you back into your comfy and now, thanks to Wanda, clean clothes.
curling up in bed with nat, Wanda returned with food for all of you and a mountain of all different kinds of chocolate and popcorn.
âI vote we have a movie day today.â Wanda proposed. nat smiled at you and brushed the hair from your face, âid love thatâ she agreed â what about you Y/n/n?â
âonly if i get lots of hugs.â you mumbled in an embarrassed way that made the redheads hearts skip a beat.
âalright then.â wand climbed in beside you and put down the tray of food. âyou get first pick Y/n/nâ Wanda grinned and nat passed you the remote.
âhere you goâ you took it and placed a chocolate in your mouth. going to reach for another Wanda lightly slapped your hand away.
âfood first.â she chided softly. you pouted and picked a movie. after the first 20 minutes or so you hd finished lunch and were happily curled in the arms of your girls munching chocolate. maybe you should get your period more often you thought. then another cramp hit making you keen softly. never-mind you thought. Wanda ran her magic fingers over you lower back and the pain stopped. you knew then and there your girls would always be there. you were never going to be alone again.

âAnd that means thatâs Venus!â Rory yells as she looks through the telescope she got for Christmas.
Eddie is turning the map of the constellations in his hands while holding a flashlight between his teeth, looking up at the sky every few seconds as if heâs going to suddenly understand where they are in comparison to what the map says. Rory doesnât notice any of this, but Steve does.
Heâs been watching fondly for the last ten minutes.
Heâs bundled up in his best winter coat and sipping on hot tea while they figure out what theyâre looking at. Maybe itâs strange to watch them instead of the stars in the sky, but looking out at the galaxy doesnât make much sense when his whole world is right in front of him.
Roryâs getting older, and sheâs switched to private tutoring so she can have more on-ice and off-ice training as part of the AA program she joined this season. Sheâs at the rink every day except Tuesdays, which is family day. As soon as Steve gets home from work, they all spend time together doing whatever they want.
It might seem like too much for some people, but it works for them.
âOkay. Yeah, that has to be Venus. Or wait. Maybe-â Eddie rambles as he flips open a book Steve didnât even see him bring outside. âYep. Definitely Venus.â
Eddieâs going with her to a tournament in New York tomorrow, so they rushed to get this together so she could use it tonight. Steve is staying behind for this one, already having volunteered to help a new teacher move into her classroom before break was over. He could have explained it to her, but Rory insisted he stay.
âItâs barely even a real tournament, dad.â
But even with how busy they are, and how fulfilled he feels, Steve wonders if maybe theyâre still missing something.
âThereâs a shooting star!â Rory exclaims.
Steve looks up and smiles when he sees it flying across the sky.
He closes his eyes and makes a wish he never thought heâd make in a million years.
Eddieâs arm is around him a moment later, his lips warm against his temple.
âMaking wishes over here?â He whispers.
âMhm,â Steve hums. âYou?â
âI didnât see the star so mine wonât come true. Iâve already got you two, anyway.â
Steve smiles to himself as he looks back up at the sky.
âYou think we could have another one?â He asks.
Eddie is silent for a while and Steve lets him sit with the question. He knows Eddie knows what he meant.
âWas that your wish?â Eddie finally asks.
âKind of. I wished for us to find everything we wanted together.â
Eddieâs lips turn up into a grin. âAnd you want another kid?â
âMaybe I do. I think we could talk about it. Unless you donât.â
Eddie pulls him tighter against him and watches Rory make an adjustment on the telescope as she jots something down in her notebook.
âLetâs talk about it.â

In The Library (NSFW)
Larissa Weems x Reader
A study date gone awry.
Authorâs Note: Ahhhh!!! Iâm posting this late and its FAR LONGER than expected. This is apart of Smutember with @alexusonfire! The prompt being library! Thank you to @tunarunes for the beta!
You had one plan for your college experience: to pass your classes and become a teacher. So when you began your teacher training classes and fell absolutely head over heels in love with a walking, breathing, white-haired goddess, your plans wavered slightly.Â
She walked into your âIntro to Educationâ class with her head held high, looking like a pinup girl cut out of a magazine from the 1950s. Her confidence was intoxicating and you knew from that instant that you wanted all of her attention. You felt blessed when she sat in a seat right next to you.
She removed her notebook and pen from her bag and turned to you with an outstretched hand, âLarissa.âÂ
âOh, hi! Iâm- Uh-â It took you a moment to recall your name as her eyes trained on your face left you without a discernible thought.Â
Your behavior caused the shapeshifter to laugh, her hand landing on your shoulder. Her eyes fell to your notebook where your name was written in the upper right hand corner. âY/n?âÂ
âYes- Yes, Iâm Y/n.â You sputtered, eyes unable to leave her beautiful face.
âBeautiful nameâŠâ Larissa hummed, her eyes looking you over before turning her attention onto the instructor.
Sometimes you thought you caught her looking at you from the corner of her eye, but you were sure it was your mind playing tricks on you. One class period you had answered a question in a particularly meaningful way and you caught the shapeshifter observing you with a sweet smile.Â
When she raised her hand and answered questions, she was so sure of herself. Desperately you wanted to at least be her friend.Â
Sometimes when you would talk about
classwork, Larissa would rest a hand on your shoulder or thigh. She would look at you with such intensity you thought you would simply pass away. To even have an ounce of her attention was all you craved.
Finally your opportunity to become friends came when your professor told the class you would need a partner for the upcoming research project. Your heart stopped beating when Larissa turned around in her chair and her eyes locked onto yours. She flashed you a smile and gestured with her hand as a way of asking if you wanted to be in a group with her. Your cheeks turned red and you nodded faster than you felt you should have.Â
After class she passed you a note with her name and phone number followed by a little smiley face. You felt as if you could combust. The grin on your face remained for a long while, making your cheeks ache.Â
You hadnât waited long to text her, sending her your name with a text smiley face of your own. Larissa was quick to get down to business, asking you for your availability to meet in the library to work on the project sometime later that week. You were immediate in your reply, offering many times for you to meet.Â
By that evening you had a plan to meet Thursday night in the library to get started on your project, but the conversation hadnât stopped there. Soon you were texting back and forth about hobbies and interests.Â
Larissa had even asked about the dating scene at the university, making it a point to tell you that she was struggling to find other lesbians at the school. Your heart was beating wildly when you informed her of your own sexuality. Her only response to your text was, âThatâs perfect.â
All Tuesday and Wednesday you continued your conversations over text. Some messages even make you wonder if Larissa had been flirting with you. You tried brushing off a few messages of Larissa complementing your outfits.Â
Wednesday nightâs messages became sultry when Larissa mentioned not being able to keep her hands off you if she had a partner that looked the way you did. You quickly returned the sentiment.
Y/n: Stop. You are so beautiful!!! I canât even imagine being with a girl as beautiful as you.
Larissa: Youâre too sweet.Â
Larissa: Sometimes I canât stop myself from looking at you in class. The shirt you wore last week had me staring so hard đ«Ł
Y/n: Ahhh! Iâm blushing. I was worried it was too much!Â
Larissa: No! Not too much! Left some to the imagination! đđ
Y/n: Oh wow! đ€ Glad you liked it!
Larissa: Liked it? I havenât been able to stop thinking about itâŠ
ââ
âAre you ready to get to work? I have a favorite spot on the third floor we can work at. No one ever goes there.â Larissa towered over you as she spoke. You couldnât help yourself as you watched her lips form words. Your gaze was more noticeable than intended and your admiration made the shapeshifter smile.
âYeah, that sounds, uh, great.â You squeak out, ready to follow Larissa to the ends of the earth.
âIâve been looking forward to this project since I read the syllabus. I was thinking we could research~â Larissa continued on about her plans for the project, but your mind wandered as you watched her pretty face.Â
What you would give to have those blue hues focused on your face. It wasnât until you tripped over yourself because you were blatantly not watching where you were going that Larissa paused her talking to look down at you. She rested a hand on your arm as she spoke, âYou really must watch where you are going. Are you alright?â
Your face flushed at the physical contact and you gaped and stumbled over your words, âOh, yeah⊠Yeah. Yeah, Iâm okay. Iâm good.â
âPerhaps you should stop staring at me to prevent yourself from falling on that pretty face.â Larissa giggled and drew her hand from your arm to tuck a bit of hair behind your ear. She then continued walking towards her secret spot in the library, leaving you behind to comprehend the interaction. Was Larissa Weems flirting with you?
When you caught up with Larissa, she took you to the far corner of the library where the shelves of books intersected just right to leave you tucked away with the utmost privacy.Â
âIsnât it nice? Turns out many arenât interested in the math textbooks they keep back here.â Larissa smirked as she observed her study nook, obviously pleased with herself.Â
âItâs very nice.â You agree, glancing about before settling into the seat across from Larissa. âGood find!â
âIâm certainly happy with it.âÂ
The small talk shifted into conversation about the project. Quickly, Larissa took charge, divvying up the assignment so you could more efficiently finish the work.Â
About ten minutes into researching the benefits of outdoor extracurriculars for students, you felt one of Larissaâs shoes poke your foot under the table. You glanced up at her, but she was still working diligently on her own portion of the project.Â
When you looked back down at your computer, the footsie started up once more. You allowed it to continue for a few moments before glancing up to her face once more, only now Larissa was smirking. Her eyes turned upwards onto yours and your mouth went dry at the sultry darkness in her eyes.Â
âI need your help with this slide. Could you come look at this?â Larissaâs mouth formed into a small pout as she asked her question.Â
You pop up from your seat and circle the table, leaning over her shoulder to examine the PowerPoint slide on her screen. You hold out a hand and begin pointing to different settings to help her through the error, but when Larissa didnât make a move to solve the issue, you glanced down at her to see what was the matter. She had her eyes trained in on you, her lips darting out and wetting her lips as she stared at your own.Â
âLarissa?â
âHmm?â
âIs everything okay?ïżœïżœ
âI was just thinkingâŠâ
âThinking what?â
âWhat it would be like to kiss you.â
The brazenness of the statement had you floored. Your eyes were wide and your lips parted slightly as you tried to come up with a reply.Â
âWould you like that?â
A small whimper accidentally escaped your throat, making the shapeshifter smile. Her hand reached up to the back of your neck, pulling you down with a jerk, and sending your lips crashing into hers.Â
She held you like that for a few moments. Long enough for your hands to shift to her cheeks so she couldnât pull away as easily.Â
When you finally did part, Larissa chuckled and gripped your forearm, pulling you to her side as she backed her chair out from under the table. In an instant, she pulled you down towards her lap. You instinctively shifted to straddle her, not questioning anything that was happening all so fast.Â
âIâve noticed you looking at me in class. Youâre cute, you know that?â
âI- I- You are soâŠâ
âYes, darling?â Larissaâs arms circled you to pull your body flush against hers. Her face fell into your neck, kissing your collarbone to your pulse point.
âBeautiful. You are so beautiful.âÂ
âThank you, sweetheart⊠Would you want to take a break from the project for a bit?â Larissa questioned, her hands squeezing your sides as a precursor of what was to come.
You nodded quickly and dove back down to her lips, needing more than the few second kiss from earlier. Larissa was happy to offer more passion by opening her mouth slightly, offering her tongue to you. Your tongues battled and you held one another close, hands tugging at one anotherâs clothes in search of more proximity than what was physically possible.Â
Larissa was kissing you until you were gasping for breath. You fought the urge to pinch yourself, worried this was all just a wonderful dream.Â
She parted the kiss for a moment to breathe out a question, âCan I touch you more?â
âPleaseâŠâ You moan as you start pressing kisses along Larissaâs jawline.Â
The shapeshifterâs impatience was showing when she maneuvered her hand between your bodies and slipped it in the waistband of your pants. You felt her smile against your neck when she discovered how wet you already were for her. The floodgates had opened earlier when she had pressed kisses against your jugular.
âYou feel so goodâŠâ Larissa whispered as her middle and forefinger began exploring your cunt, focusing in on your clit after a short while.
You were putty in her hands, whimpering softly into her neck. You knew you needed to remain quiet. This study session had evolved into something far out of the realm of what you thought to be possible. Larissa had been craving you the way you craved her.Â
âSometimes I think about this in class⊠making you come on my fingersâŠâ
The statement made you groan softly. You always imagined her to be such a diligent student, but knowing she was daydreaming such filthy thoughts pushed you towards your orgasm.Â
âDo you think about me too?â Larissa asked, her breath soft in your ear.
âMhmmâŠâÂ
âWhen I touch myself, I think about getting on my knees for you⊠I bet you taste so goodâŠâ She made herself moan from the dirty talk mixed with the barely audible wet noises emitted from your cunt. Larissaâs arm ached from the strange angle, but she wasnât ready to relent. She needed to push you over the edge first.Â
The shapeshifter leaned forward in her chair, pinning you back to the table to give her enough leverage to change her arm positioning enough to push two fingers into your aching cunt. The heel of her hand continued working against your clit, but the sensation was faint enough to cause your hips to buck and grind against her hand frantically.Â
Larissa chuckled and gave you what you wanted by pumping her fingers harder and faster. Your moans and whimpers came more freely as it became harder to control the volume of your voice.Â
She began sucking at the flesh of your neck, completely pushing you over the edge. It drove you wild that a mark would be left behind from the woman you were absolutely smitten with.Â
A low groan escaped your throat and you muffled the cry by capturing Larissaâs lips with yours. The kiss was rough and desperate which only made the shapeshifter moan in return.Â
You remained quiet in her lap for a few minutes, enjoying the feeling of her arms wrapping around you once more. Her face dropped into your neck, leaving soft kisses as she told you over and over how beautiful she found you to be. You made your crush known by quietly admitting all of the sweet daydreams you had about dating her.
Larissa pulled her face from your neck, tucking hair behind both of your ears. Her hands fell back to your waist and her eyes admiring your face. âWould you like to get something to eat and come back to my place?âÂ
âI would love thatâŠâ

â LOVE POTION, various â he doesnât know much about love, but heâll try his best for you.
contents. featuring xiao, dan heng, and roronoa zoro. gender neutral reader, fluff. xiao + zoro is canon au, dan hengâs is modern! your first date with each of the boys ⥠word count. 537
notes. writing the prompt âlove potionâ for my own event despite it having been closed for a month LMAO i just need an excuse to write something⊠anyways uh pls pretend iâm not writing xiao when i said i wouldnât in a while đ«Ł i have a wip for tighnari otw i promise !!!
xiao has never been interested in mortal celebrations. but after meeting you, he canât help but want to learn more about them. âwould you⊠want to come to the lantern rite with me?â
you were pleasantly surprised when he asked; glad to see that the yaksha was finally coming out of his shell. you laughed, took his hand (which prompted a blushing mess out of him), and led him down to the harbor, where the festivities were already starting.
figuring he still wasnât too comfortable being around large crowds of mortals, you took him to a secluded spot on a hill by the pavilion, close enough so that you could still see the lanterns that lit up the sky.
âtheyâre beautiful, arenât they?â you ask him, following his eyes as he stared at tiny glowing dots fading in the night. xiao nods slowly, seemingly mesmerized by the sight. you smile softly, leaning your head on his shoulder as the two of you watch the fireworks show that followed.
dan heng, being a bit of a bookworm, was a little⊠socially awkward, to say the least. luckily, you found his quirks entertaining. âthereâs a new bookstore that opened across the street⊠would you be interested?â
so one tuesday afternoon, you meet him by the park, where he stood with a bouquet of flowers in his hands. you giggle when he awkwardly offers them to you. âof course, why else would you have bought them for?â
making you way to the bookstore, dan heng watches as you stroll down the aisles, picking out some you wanted. he felt his heart swell as he spies his favorite novel in your hand. âi didnât know you liked that book tooâŠâ
the two of you end up spending the rest of the afternoon in the cafe next door, chatting about your favorite books over coffee. he smiles, maybe being a geek isnât a such bad thing after all.
zoro never quite wanted to leave the sunny when the crew docked on a new island; he preferred to stay behind and take a nap, or train. but you always encouraged him to come along, and he finally decided to go along with it. âiâm gonna go explore⊠if âya wanna come with.â
there happened to be a small crafts market in the town nearby, so you and zoro (mostly just you) went admiring the handicrafts the stalls had on display. "aww, how lovely!" you admire a little clockwork deer that reminded you a bit of chopper.
then you realized you had some business to attend to in town, so you left zoro behind for a few minutes, saying, "don't you dare get lost while i'm gone!" he stands there awkwardly, before glancing back at the crafts stall. while i'm here...
...and then of course you happen to accidentally encounter the marines, causing you to have to run back to the ship with zoro in tow. when you're finally safe in the crow's nest of the sunny, however... he presented you with the mechanical deer toy from earlier, to your joy. "i don't have that many berries but.. i know you wanted it, so i guess i'll just have to pay nami back later."
end notes. i thought i would write a lot for xiao but i ended up writing more for zoro lmao heâs been taking up all of my brain recently but i hope you enjoyed <3

Rhysand Week 2024 Prompts!
art by arz28
Sunday 8/18: Day One
Adolescence: Rhysand grew up with a loving Illyrian mother and as far as we know, a cold, distant High Fae father. His half Illyrian heritage lead for an interesting childhood growing up in the camps. Let's use day 1 to explore our High Lords youth! What was he like as a child? What was it like growing up alongside Cassian and Azriel?
Monday 8/19: Day Two
Carynthian: One out of only a handful of Illyrian warriors to win the Blood Rite and walk away with the title "Carynthian", he is one of the best warriors on Prythian. His Carynthian title is the counterpart to his title of High Lord, and is one of the highest honors in his Illyrian culture.
Tuesday 8/20: Day Three
Loved Ones: From his fallen mother and sister to his brothers Azriel and Cassian, his cousin Morrigan, his mentor Amren, and his mate and son Feyre Archeron and Nyx, Rhysand is surrounded by loved ones both lost and found. How does his relationship with them change over time? What was his relationship like with his mother and sister? How did he and his friends mourn them?
Wednesday 8/21: Day Four
Lord of Night: The Night Court is the most polarizing and scandalous court in Prythian, and he serves as its Lord. There's both beauty and darkness in the Night Court and as one of its leaders Rhysand must navigate these things. How does he do it? What does it truly mean to be the Lord of Night?
Thursday 8/22: Day Five
Survivor: Brutal training in the Illyrian camps as a child, weeks of torture at Amarantha's hands during the war 500 years ago, 50 years trapped Under the Mountain, and even more that we humble readers likely haven't even gotten to read about. Rhysand is a survior through and through, how does it shape him? Is there anything you imagine he's survived that we haven't gotten to look at?
Friday 8/23: Day Six
Worlds Axis: "This was not a male to be fucked with. None of these people were, but this one... Authority rippled off him. As if he was the entire axis of this place." Hybern, Amarantha, the Prison and Dusk, Fionn, the cauldron... The key players of this world surround our High Lord and him and his family are always the ones to make the first move. Why is the magic of this world so drawn to him? What wonders does Rhysand have in store for us in future books?
Saturday 8/24: Day Seven
Free Day: Give us Rhysand or give us death! Show us all your Rhys ideas, the sky is your limit!
Please feel encouraged to take as much or as little inspiration from the prompts as you would like when creating your posts! Last years guidelines still apply so please consider checking those out. Let us know if you have any questions!

I have no idea why this needs to be said, but you can hate generative AI, love the Public Domain, love media preservation, hate the overbearing US Copyright system, and... still believe that Copyright Laws exist in the first place for a reason, (even if, thanks to Big Corporation Monopolies, it's been twisted into its current behemoth monstrosity.)
You can hate Large Language Models and still believe in Copyright Reform over Copyright Abolishment.
You can believe in Media Preservation and still believe that Plagiarism is wrong.
You can hate the current restrictive Copyright Laws without wanting to abolish them entirely.
You can love the Public Domain and still loath predatory corporations stealing everything they can get their hands on, to literally *feed the machine.*
These things are not mutually exclusive, and if you think that
"you can't hate AI if you hate the current copyright laws"
or that
"Hating on Generative AI will only give us more restrictive copyright and IP laws, therefore you need to normalize and accept generative AI stealing all of your creations and every single thing you've ever said on the internet!"
I just genuinely don't understand how you can say this kind of crap if you've ever interacted with any creative person in your life.
I'm a wanna-be-author.
I want as many people to be able to afford my written works as possible without restrictions, and I fully plan on having free ebooks of my works available for those who can't afford to buy them.
*That does *not* mean I, in any way shape or form, would ever consent to people stealing my work and uploading it into a Large Language Model and telling it to spit out fifty unauthorized sequels that are then sold for cash profit!*
You cannot support generative AI and turn around and try to claim you're actually just defending small time artists, and *also* you think no one should have any legal protections at all protecting their work from plagiarism at all.
Supporting unethical generative AI (which is literally all of them currently), protecting artists, and *completely abolishing* copyright and intellectual property laws instead of reforming them *are* mutually exclusive concepts.
You *cannot* worship the plagiarism machine, claim to care about small artists, and then say that those same small artists should have absolutely *zero* legal protections to stop their work being plagiarized.
The only way AI could even begin to approach being ethical would be if using it to begin with wasn't a huge hazard to the enviornment, and if it was trained *exclusively * on Public Domain works that had to be checked and confirmed by multiple real human beings before it was put into the training data.
And oh, would you look at that?
Every single AI model is currently just sucking up the entire fucking goddamn internet and everything ever posted on it and everything ever downloaded from it with no way to really truly opt out of it or even just to know if your work has been fed to the machine until an entire page of text from your book pops out when it generates text from someone's writing prompt.
And no, it's not just "privileged Western authors" who are being exploited by AI.
