I just re-watched Legally Blonde the musical and I cannot emphasise how underrated it is.

Everything about it is perfect - the songs, the set, the outfits, the choreography. It has all the qualities of the film and even corrects some flaws (by giving Emmett a personality or making Vivien more supportive).

Also LBB and Christian Borle's chemistry changed lives.

Hello! As y'all probably know by now, musicals are a BIG interest of mine. So I decided to make a list of all musicals I ever listened to. Mainly because I like categorizing stuff.

Feel free to use this to recommend me something (I'm trying to make to 100 musicals lol), or use this as a recommendation list for yourself (I tried to put my favorites on top, but don't take the placements to heart)

Before we start, some ground rules: I'm focusing on stage productions and concept albuns. There might be *some* movies. I'm not counting Disney or this would be twice the size.

Also, I count "listened to" as in "I listened to most/all of the songs and know enough of the plot".

S TIER: These are my general faves. I like most of the songs and know the plot back to back. Can probably talk for hours about them.

The Polite Leader/Stranger NSFW Alphabet Headcanons

(A/N: Hello, gang! In between my work, I cooked this up to decompress. I hope you all enjoy these juicy and smexy headcanons featuring such an underrated and niche man 😁❤️)

Did you know that he does most of this show IN HEELS. Not only that, TAP DANCING IN HEELS like are you kidding. He also wrote some lines for the show! I love the whole show in general, it is so funny and so real in how they talk about identity and how you present yourself. I can write a whole essay but that'll be for another day. I love this show with all my heart

Little Shop of Horrors (2019 off-bway revival) - Orin/others

Speaking of heels, he too was in heels for this production, but much much less than SLiH. Still, the talent is there. Especially when he plays all the different characters, from a crazy dentist like Orin to Skip Snip. He is also super unhinged and likes to drag out his death as Orin to make the audience laugh. I recommend watching the tiny desk concert first if you are not familiar

Thoroughly Modern Millie (Replacement) - Jimmy Smith

There's not much for this show, just a video of him singing What do I need with love. I liked his singing in this and the small details he does during this song to show that Jimmy has fallen for Millie is cute

Mary Poppins (Replacement) - Bert

He may claim that he was the worst tap dancing Bert but he was still a champ for learning all that choreo and even going upside down in step in time. Another one with crumbs :" Gosh what I would give for a boot cuz rn its just the disney on Bway videos and jolly holiday. He did it with Laura Michelle Kelly :)

Me and My Girl (New York City Centre) - Bill Snibson

He did this show with Laura Michelle Kelly too :))) AND THE SHOW IS SO FUNNY it's so underrated and has very funny lines. Someone said that it was basically 2 hours of CBorle being silly. I also love his and Laura Michelle Kelly's dynamics as Bill and Sally. Speaking of this couple, Bill and Sally are literally as healthy as Emmett and Elle and i love that for them

Peter and the Starcatcher (OBC) - Blackstache

Literally my favourite show of his. His blackstache is so animated and silly I love him. And his agility sliding over the trunk and running around. His moments in Mermaid Outta Me ༼⁠;⁠´⁠༎ຶ⁠ ⁠۝ ⁠༎ຶ⁠༽ silly lil guy. Similarly to Orin, he likes to drag out his hand pain to make the audience laugh. AND HIS CURLS omg this era of CBorle hair is the best imo. And he won his first tony for it! That goes to show something about his portrayal of Captain Hook and how it needs more love !!!!!

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (OBC) - Willy Wonka

A lot of people seem to see this role as the role he went bald for. We joke about Borled Egg a lot but he brought such beautiful unhingeness to this role that really brought out the joy of this show.

Footloose (The Muny) - Director

He also directs! Though there is no boot for this production, he talks about his experience directing and working on the show in some interviews and a reunion zoom call. The cast talks about how he allows them to be free in their portrayal of the characters while giving advice and proper directions, especially since he was in Footloose for tour and bway. I would have loved to watch it since footloose is a show I like too. NaTasha Yvette Williams is also in this!

Anyway, he has done a lot more shows, he's been in the industry for nearly 30 years so he has a lot under his belt and I wish he wasn't just reduced to Vox's VA, Marvin or Shakespeare. He's a brilliant actor with impeccable comedic timing and seriousness. He's not a two-time Tony award winner for nothing!

Hazbin Hotel 4 episode premiere review Part 3

I got my main criticisms out of the way so now I get to have fun and gush about the stuff I enjoyed and hopefully will continue to enjoy! Because honestly even though I think the writing and pacing are objectively bad, I'm still having fun with this series like I do with Helluva Boss, and its mainly for one reason:

The voice cast is singlehandedly carrying the show.

Viv may not be great at character design or storytelling, but if she's good at one thing she is damn good at casting.

The voice cast is perfect, they all understood the assignment. Like everyone who was saying the new cast was gonna be worse than the pilot cast for the sole reason that they weren't the pilot cast were just flat out wrong. They all ate and are all easily the most enjoyable part of the series.

Erika Henningsen was the perfect choice for Charlie, she fits the role of "Disney Princess in Hell" like a glove. She's bubbly and sweet and excitable and kind! She fits this role way better than she fit the role of Cady in the Mean Girls musical (I said what I said) She sounds so much like Mandy Moore as Rapunzel, another favorite character of mine!

Blake Roman's performance???? As Angel??? Hello sir???? My jaw was on the floor during Angel's scene with Valentino because I was absolutely blown away by his performance. It was heartbreaking and raw and impactful, a stellar performance. I have a good feeling Blake Roman is gonna get the Alex Brightman treatment after this winning combination of his performance as Angel Dust and his Broadway debut in "Harmony: A New Musical". Blake Roman is a STAR

Speaking of Alex Brightman, man do I love his voice. I've been on the Alex Brightman stan train for years now, waaaaaaaaay before Helluva Boss. I've loved Alex Brightman since his performance as Dewy Finn in the School of Rock Musical (which is criminally underrated. There could not have been a better casting decision for Dewy) Hearing Alex Brightman sing a more rock style song for the first time since his School of Rock days was so so wonderful. "Hell is Forever" was the best part of ep 1 there I said it. Not to mention his performance as Sir Pentious is also quite enjoyable. All of his voice work has gotten him so much positive exposure too! I'm so glad he's getting all the love and attention he deserves after being so underrated for so long. Its like the universe is apologizing for kicking Beetlejuice out of the Winter Garden Theater and replacing it with the Music Man and also robbing him of his Tony back in 2019. (Alex Brightman deserved Best Male Lead in a Musical at the 2019 Tony's argue with the wall)

Christian Borle as Vox was such a fun choice! I've also been a Christian Borle stan for many years now, since I listened to the "Legally Blonde" musical for the first time back in 2017 where he played Emmett Forrest. I'm always happy to hear one of my Broadway faves perform in something, and I was thrilled to find out he was going to be part of the cast!

Lili Cooper as Velvette was also a pleasant surprise! She killed it. She's brash and loud and confident and the accent was a nice touch too! Loved her as Sandy in the Spongebob musical, love her as Velvette.

I don't really have much to say about the rest of the main and supporting cast, they all sound great! I can't wait to hear Jeremy Jordan as Lucifer, Leslie Kritzer as Roise and Darren Criss as St. Peter!

And last but not least, Amir Talai as Alastor. Holy shit is he fun! Amir Talai was the voice that inspired Alastor in the first place, so I'm glad they got him in the cast! I kept seeing people say that he wasn't "intimidating enough" as a Alastor and that he was much weaker than Edward Bosco and all I have to say is:

How does it feel to be wrong?

Because Amir Talai ATE THIS UP. He devoured. Not a CRUMB IN SIGHT. I get all giggly when I hear him sing "let's begin", its so playfully sinister and perfect and lovely. Every single line delivery is perfect.

But even with such a spectacularly talented Broadway cast, the decision to make Hazbin a full on musical was.....interesting. Helluva Boss is similar because they have at least one song per episode, but Hazbin has two, and sometimes they're kind of shoehorned in with no buildup. Ep 3 is the biggest offender of this. I enjoyed Lili Cooper singing "Respectless" but the song was unnecessary. Neither one of the songs in ep 3 made any sense and honestly felt like they were there to fill the quota of "two songs per episode". "It Starts With Sorry" in ep 2 was also kinda weird, but not unforgivable.

The best songs so far are easily "Stayed Gone", "Poison" and "Losers, Baby". All three are bangers and everyone slayed. "Happy Day in Hell" is fun, feels like a typical Disney song, and "Hell is Forever" also slaps, but both songs have a lot of unnecessary swearing that throws them off course.

So yep that's pretty much it for my positives about Hazbin! I'll happily keep watching Hazbin just to hear the cast continuing to slay.

Dominic Fike - Eventim Apollo - 23/09/2023

After raving about his music on Blonde Vibrations and being blown away by his set at Coachella 2023, this was one concert that we could not wait to attend. Dominic Fike's road to finally performing in the United Kingdom was definitely something to count down the days to.

Clearly, we were not alone in this excitement. Fans had seemingly been queuing since the early hours for this show which is just a testament to how dedicated his audience is. This is something I noticed throughout the show, as the noise levels from the audience during the first song of the set, 'How Much Is Weed?', were just booming. I could barely hear Fike himself during the earlier points of the set.

To sum up the evening, it exceeded our already high expectations. From the lighthearted anecdotes joking at legal reasons for being unable to enter the country before this tour, to the switch up between studio versions and live renditions of songs, Fike kept his audience on their toes. Something I really enjoyed was the variation in his performance styles, as it provided an experience more interesting than a usual sing-a-long. 'Why' is a great example of this.

Something we have discussed on Blonde Vibrations before is having the desire to hear a good portion of one's new record during an artist's tour and this is exactly what Fike provided. The set list included both hits and (in my opinion) underrated tracks from his recent studio album 'Sunburn', which the fans had already memorised. He also sprinkled in classic songs such as 'Politics & Violence' and 'Come Here' from older projects which still brought about the same excitement from the audience.

Overall, this show was full of charisma and will definitely hold a place as one of my favourite shows of the year (and there is some tough competition). My only regret is not purchasing tickets for London Night Two, which featured a surprise performance from Bakar...

Legally Blonde is so underrated. We should be talking about it more in academic spaces, it should be an essential watch when studying film from a feminist lens and the only reason it isn't is cause it's considered an immature girl's movie.

I'm completely serious about this btw. It so amazingly addresses the flaws in how women were portrayed in film and general media. It shows women learning to support each other, women and men supporting each other, vanity is not shown as inherently bad and makeovers are used to empower, the makeover trope is used on a man to empower him, it shows so much sympathy for the women even when recognizing they were a jerk (same for the men but it's a bit harder to sympathize with them cause 2/4 men in the show are just such assholes), and a lot more

Meanwhile, it still has a LOT of flaws when portraying literally any other marginalized group. There are like no BIPOC in the whole movie, the Lesbian and Gays in the movie are mainly there cause their sexualities are a punchline, there is definitely casual fatphobia sprinkled throughout, there is more but I don't want to list all the flaws rn

Legally Blonde is actually an amazing film to analyze. It shows how women empowering each other rather than judging each other to fit in helps us all succeed, and how women don't have to conform to masculine norms to succeed in male-dominated fields, and also just pointing out how shitty some of the things we let men get away with all the time are. At the same time though, it is very white and cis-het and while empowering women still leaves out so so many people and even actively harms some. It's feminist in a very non-intersectional way and shows how much feminism helps women while also showing how harmful it can be when it isn't intersectional.

I genuinely think the only reason it isn't taken seriously outside of niche online groups is that it's considered an immature girl's movie and the film community is very male-dominated There are other movies that are also not taken seriously for the same reason, but Legally Blonde is my personal favorite out of those.

1. The Green Mile (1999): My obsession for Stephen King runs deep with this one. Pretty sure almost everyone's watched this.

2. Legally Blonde (2001): Weighed down by patriarchy and catty women? This movie restores your faith in humanity.

3. Tumbbad (2018): Hindi language, it's a pretty good horror and the actors are phenomenal. If I recc something I'd recc this.

4. Howl's Moving Castle (2004): For that comforting feeling of being at home, away from home.

5. Bram Stoker's Dracula (1992): Gary Oldman as Dracula, Winona Ryder as Wilhemina and Keanu Reeves as Jonathan? I'm sold. Also, a childhood favourite, even though I probably wasn't allowed to watch such media back then.

6. Pride and Prejudice (2005): I like this version better for nostalgia reasons. Also, Keira Knightley.

7. Gangs of Wasseypur (2012): One of my favorites. Rustic, unabashedly violent, and filled with vengeance. Pretty long though, so beware.

Doesn't hurt to add the kdrama/cdrama list as well:

1. Moon lovers (Scarlet Heart Ryeo)(2016): Tortured ML, check. Time travel, check. Political intrigue, check. Heart wrenching ending, check. The fluff scenes are tooth rottingly sweet.

2. W: Two Worlds (2016): Parallel worlds, check. Doctor as a protagonist, check. Hot ML, check. Weird plot points, check. Also my first kdrama.

3. Hotel del Luna (2019): IU and Yeo Jingoo should work together again, they're so cute (⁠｡⁠ﾉ⁠ω⁠＼⁠｡⁠)

4. Till the End of the moon (2023): I want to suffer at this point. Nuf said.

5. Forever Love (2023): I watch this for comfort. The comfort being Dai Gao Zheng. (Point at me and laugh, idc 乁⁠|⁠ ⁠･⁠ ⁠〰⁠ ⁠･⁠ ⁠|⁠ㄏ)

6. Law School (2021): Toxic study shit. Makes me want to better myself and I'll keep watching Kang Sol A work hard till she has a nosebleed so many times that I'll have a nosebleed myself.

7. Again My Life (2022): Lee Joong Ki as a lawyer, also toxic study motivation. Don't blame me, I'm a doc, I need to be toxic for a major part of my job. Also pretty cool with the action sequences, kinda underrated.

Bonus: Asur (Welcome to your dark side) (2020): Hindi language, crime thriller, with a healthy dose of Indian mythology and forensic science. Also has Arshad Warsi, my favourite actor ヾ⁠(⁠･⁠ω⁠･⁠*⁠)⁠ﾉ
