ohhhhh i love him, i love him so much. the way he has treated Kouhei like a normal person from the moment he met him, the way he has stood up for him, the way he's constantly trying to do things to make Kouhei's life better, the way he encourages Kouhei to advocate for himself, the way he's thinking of him and being considerate without simpering, the way he's constantly willing to learn and pivot when Kouhei gives him new information.

like there's no hesitation here- he thought yelling Kouhei's name multiple times, even stretching it out to its full four syllables (Ko-u-he-i) would be enough to catch his attention, but when Kouhei tells him he doesn't hear sounds behind him, Taichi doesn't dwell on it or make excuses or unnecessary justifications for his mistake, he doesn't downplay it or Kouhei's reaction, he just accepts what Kouhei tells him, adjusts, and corrects his plan for next time he needs to get Kouhei's attention.

i'm loving this show so much already and these two darlings and the way it's handling this story and it's just so good. so good.

gonna read all of House of M this weekend i think

I have probably half a dozen or more ideas around one or both halves of spicyhoney being a "gaster blaster dragon" shapeshifter beast thing, but the most recent addition to the pile is rattling around again so

In this specific version, they're more akin to werewolves in their alternate form than full quadruped "dragons" (or what have you), so still mostly biped, no wings, just bigger and pointier with the Signature elongated skulls with horns and the double jointed legs. And tails of course, I would never miss an opportunity to add tails.

Anyways. After meeting via typical machine shenanigans before surfacing, none of them are certain the others can shapeshift and sort of try to hide it while simultaneously finding out? But of course, eventually, they soon learn the truth, and are more comfortable discussing the odd trait amongst each other.

Except Edge. For whatever reason, he excludes himself from anything related to shifting, and hasn't done so in front of any of the others. To each their own, whatever, eventually, one by one, they're freed to a shared surface, and things are looking up.

Except for Edge. At least for the most part. Ever since surfacing, he’s seemed to have gradually increasing problems with his temper and magic control. This could be chalked up to how stressful his job is, or the same reasons other monsters had noticed changes in their magic control (just natural adjusting to no longer being underground). But Rus suspects it's more than that.

He enlists Stretch's help to figure out what's wrong with Edge, and primarily only manage to stress and upset him further. So Stretch takes one rare opportunity to talk to Edge alone, and with a lot of patience, ultimately learns that Edge's shifting ability doesn't work like everyone else's. It's almost like some sort of alter ego takes over, and he almost never remembers what he did while shifted.

It started when he was a young teen, and got worse over the years, especially as he gained LV. It really is almost like a stereotypical werewolf situation for him, as he, apparently, behaves very animalistic and aggressive. He used to be able to shift with his brother's supervision just to burn off the excess magic but it's become a bigger problem since surfacing, likely due to the improved quality of health and living.

Stretch listens, and then they talk, and ultimately, he offers to help Edge burn off some of the energy now and then. Edge is averse to the idea for the same reason he doesn't want his brother around anymore, fear of hurting him, but Stretch insists his reflexes are plenty good, and he has full conscious control in his shifted form, so he'd be more than equipped.

They back and forth a bit more, until Edge agrees to think about it, which leads to accepting some time a few days later. He can't keep letting this hamper him. Stretch is also hopeful that exercising his alt form more frequently might help him redeveloped his self awareness as he couldn't shift all that frequently back underground, which Stretch believes to be the bulk of the problem.

The story then goes on to follow Stretch figuring out the best ways to help Edge (starting with supervised romps through mostly empty woods), and Edge slowly slowly slowly regaining his consciousness even while shifted, and of course growing closer as friends as well. And then they kiss <3

/j but also /srs, although of course there's drama that comes up here and there, probably involving either Edge accidentally hurting Stretch, or someone else hurting Stretch and Stretch having to stop Edge from tearing them limb from limb lol, idk. But they're cute! After they're closer Stretch sometimes calls Edge puppydog and he fucking hates it (<- lie)

we interviewed like, literally the perfect candidate today (for another job I'm on the panel for, sadly not for my team) but also they work with Sam so I was like 'NO. I SHOULDN'T ask Sam 'hey is [name] sound?'

but because I have no boundaries instead I went into his room as soon as I got home and went 'THE INTERVIEWS WENT WELL. BY THE WAY WHO ARE THE PEOPLE WHO YOU LIKE AND HATE AT WORK.' which inevitably triggered a guessing game which. is just asking 'is [name] sound' with extra steps
