the first 2 eps i thought it was fine, but it didnt really captivate me as much as id hoped. but then ep 3 changed everything for me. i started to think "how could living armour work logically? everything so far has been edible, so this must be too, right?" i actually managed to think of the exact thing that this series did. that really made me realise the worldbuilding in this was something unique, and it only got better and better with each episode. its really managed to captivate me and i look forward to "delicious donderdag" every week :)

ANIME ORIGINAL LETS GOOOO absolutely bonkers show that almost slipped by me because it initially tried to fool its audience into thinking it was a regular dramatic military show. it still is but theres also a giant robot who plays by saturday morning cartoon giant robot rules. if that sounds like tonal whiplash to you, trust me, it is. and its amazing. have i mentioned how homoerotic this one is as well? yeah. originally a tier below this one, but immediately after finishing this post i watched the newest ep. i had to make an exception and edit the list because ep 9 changes everything. i havent been gobsmacked by a show this hard in a while.

i havent read the manga for yubisaki to renren so i cant compare, but the quality of this adaptation has been very consistent. you need a little sweet romance every once in a while :) this is one of those series where the characters really grew on me the longer it went on. im always a fan of mixing realistic struggles with romance and this one has been doing it well so far

adaptations that are ok (i read the manga for both of these);

i've been a mashle fan since before s1 aired. and the anime has some good changes and additions here and there! but its not very consistent in terms of quality, it does that shonen thing where the animation quality suddenly spikes for certain action sequences, but it also frequently had a lot of scenes where they recycle shots a lot and nothing interesting happens on the screen for a considerable amount of time. still! its a fine adaptation. and yeah the op for this. blew tf up lmao? very strange to see happen in real time

i actually rlly like the manga for this one. i read the whole thing up until vol.6 before the season started (all that was available back then) and it made me cry multiple times throughout. i was sort of missing that connection with the show, though some of the later episodes still hit. its mostly to do with the animation quality, which isnt that great unfortunately. the voice actors are knocking it out of the park though

i was so beyond excited for this one. i replayed the op a million times, watched each preview, rewatched multiple episodes. and then. ep 5 happened. and i started to realise. oh this show kind of sucks doesnt it? the pacing of the first ep was great, but the rest? way too fast. it became clear with ep 6 that theyre trying to do a double cour show with half the length, which is why they started hauling ass plot-wise. now. i was an arajin apologist for the longest time. but at that point i honestly started to loathe him. even when he stepped up, his praise still felt sort of unearned. and to top it all off, shindou's motivation sucked so he felt like a lousy antagonist. ep6 was better than 5, but it really made me lose my enthusiasm and hope for the series. and right as we were talking about them probably not having time for a filler ep, ep7 happened. feels like a waste of time to do an ep like that when you've still got a whole 2nd arc to go through. but who am i

it started off pretty good honestly. but then chris went to the hospital and it kind of just dwindled from there. this season does so much with characters that have not even been properly introduced like how am i supposed to care about these people if i barely know who they are. the stuff with finn and leo respectively was good though. but the lore dump? lord help me. also vijay just kind of. exists to be there in the background huh? i would not call him a main character they never give him any attention. wendy had another ep again and he didnt get shit. again. also i think finn was stupid as fuck for not listening to lala but again. who am i. i know we cant destroy high card because we need a show but. cmon man.

Does mark Not Think about the blood staining both of them but Jesus fucking Christ at least overlord never told him to eat a guy at least he *could* say no when asked to hurt a baby. Events that lead up to ashe disappearing. aaand then they get the note from trickster and they actually see ashe and they see trickster use his powers and take him back to Amity and i think theyre just too... overwhelmed and angry and scared and worried to even think about mark, whose last interaction with them was telling them to fuck off because they nearly got his son killed. so they dont tell him. so he doesnt know until he sees the news, probably like. maybe a week or two after the wards find out (trickster needs time to practice using his powers :) and find him silly little outfits :)

uhhhhh. yeah. fuck. undecided WHERE mark is when he sees the news, i think it would be awful if he was just. like. u know how in movies or cartoons sometimes someone will be walking by a store window thats just full of tvs all on some dramatically appropriate news channel. maybe its like that. and the worst part is i dont think he recognizes ashe at first. like. as much as muse Does Not cover his face and his identity is PLAINLY in the open... i think theres juuuust enough of an uncanny difference with the hair and the outfit and the makeup that if youre not looking closely its easy to miss who he is. because hes SO MUCH not like ashe. (and i think the fact that he didnt recognize him immediately also eats away at mark. how could you not recognize your own son idiot!) but like. as soon as the pieces click and he realizes it like.... oh he has to fucking break down. i think he just like. freezes eyes glued to the screen watching ashe rip apart a city block with his powers and laughing about it, but then he kind of snaps out of it and is just so fucking overwhelmed with rage and grief and a billion other emotions that he smashes the fucking tv. just puts a fist straight through it. hes lucky he cant really be electrocuted. and then he IMMEDIATELY regrets that because now he needs to find a different place to see the news because he Cant Not Know whats happening.

this whole time btw there is this huuuuuge overwhelming looming fear of the confirmation that THIS is the thing simurgh marked them for. he thought it was the overlord thing but this is So Much Worse. (this is. not true. simurgh didnt actually mark either of them for anything. he doesnt know that though). so in marks head it all comes crashing down like. oh god oh fuck everything ive done our whole lives meant absolutely fucking nothing because it all happened anyway. and i think he should feel awful about that. he kept ashe literally locked away for his whole life for nothing. but at the same time theres a tiny part of his mind that just wants to go I TOLD YOU SO because the Moment he let ashe go even a little bit. this happens. hes very conflicted about this.

anyway yeah he obsessively tracks the news every time there is a new muse sighting he goes there but hes not Fast Enough a lot of the time (because hes stubborn and wont ask for help) so a lot of the time he just has to sit there in the wreckage and realize that his boy is the one that did that (except its Not his boy. i dont know if he knows that yet though)

speaking of which. man i gotta talk to ros about this. how the hell does mark figure out whos controlling ashe. i mean. like. he KNOWS that thats Not Ashe ever since the beginning. bc his kid wouldnt do that or dress like that or talk like that or laugh like that. but when does he actually figure out its the trickster? i think we need to force him into having a conversation with the wards. i think failsafe should punch him so hard his mask cracks and they should tell him hes being fucking stupid . and then they tell him about the trickster. and mark probably does all this research into amity and the chaos zone and shit. but he Cannot get into amity, especially not by himself. so hes stuck in the cycle of just following the muse news (hehe fun rhyme)

i dont remember if ive ever made a post about this or if it was just in one of mine and ros back and forth in the replies on a post thing. however. i think mark should get to talk to muse once and its a relallylly really really good parallel of when ashe first triggered. beacuse mark Knows this is him in his breaker state and the only thing he knows to do to get ashe out of breaker state is to just. sit there and talk to him until he calms down. so i just have this image of like. muse all fucked up and bloody and emotionless just staring at mark who is. on the opposite side of a roof or an alley or something and he takes off his mask and hes just Talking. about everything about nothing about random shit hes just talking. and the thing is like... it works. a little bit. muse sort of kind of drops out of breaker state just a little, just enough for tricksters hold to slip on him the tiniest bit, and trickster isnt in the immediate vicinity right now so he doesnt notice right away. and suddenly its ashe crying and delirious and hes jsut. apologizing for losing marks jacket. but he doesnt move he doesnt get any closer and when mark runs forward toward him he flinches so hard it snaps him back into breaker state and suddenly hes muse again and mark gets thrown back with. feathers detached from muses costume that suddenly have the density of bricks. and muse is gone. (simurgh parallels here btw . and if tide was here he would see parallels to elle and it would hurt so bad. but tide is busy with the wards so he doesnt see that.)

i just finished binging the dead boy detectives show, and i need to get my thoughts out, warning for spoilers

no spoilers tldr: its rlly good please go watch it i need a season 2.

now, onto the review(??):

it is very VERY different from the comics. this isn't *necessarily* bad, in fact i have no problems with pretty much any changes the show made, i just get antsy about cbms/tv shows changing the source material, bcs that happens all the time (i love the blue beetle movie but i will never forgive it for victoria kord). so here are some changes i liked: i liked the explicit queerness, i liked niko, i liked the fact that there were people in the afterlife actually looking for them, i liked how they wrote tragic mick (i love him so much), and i liked the setting change; some i didn't mind but would hate in the comics: edwin's magic, the whole brains/brawn thing?? (istg if a single one of you decides to portray charles as stupid, i will kill you), crystals personality & dynamic with the boys (she was fine but so drastically different from her comic self i would've preferred her to be an oc tbh), the removal of squooshing, the fact that the dead boys don't take cases from the living, edwin's hell being so much more violent, and the fact that they actually call themselves the dead boy detectives (i could be wrong but i've read all of their solos and i don't think they've ever done this??). the only change i really outright dislike is charles' death. i loved the part where edwin took care of him and read to him, but him being killed by the same bullies who killed edwin in the same place is just so much better than the lake. also, once again, crystal was a fine character, but that is just *not* the crystal palace surname-von hoverkraft i know!! where is her obsession with video games? where is her tech savvy? where are her insane parents?? i hope that one day we get an accurate cartoon adaptation of the toby litt run.

now moving on to the show itself!! i really liked the plot, the fact that it was semi-episodic, the cast of characters and actors was incredible. i just really liked it lol. tbh the literal only part of the show i didn't like is the fact that edwin and charles didn't kiss by the end. like... not even once. i wouldn't mind this if this wasn't a netflix show that wasn't getting much buzz, because i'm 99% sure this show isn't going to be renewed. also it felt kind of... idk, queerbait-y?? like there's obviously queer characters and content, but it feels like i watched this *for* edwin and charles' relationship and then they never got together. i feel like shows do this a lot, where, yes, there's a queer character, but they just aren't allowed to be in a happy relationship and get with the person they love. like idk it just makes me kind of angry, especially since we're probably not getting a season 2. i liked literally everything other than that, but it's just such a big scar on my enjoyment of the show that i can't help but mention it.

i don't really have much else to say other than: i really liked it, go watch it.

As a mario enjoyer I’m curious abt ur interpretation of the bros origins. This isn’t rlly asking what is canon cuz the series doesn’t rlly prioritize continuity and it’s all debatable etc. Personally I have a vague timeline in my head and I like to draw from pretty much all mario media but sometimes that makes contradictions. A lot of mario media has mario from new york (new donk?) and then ends up in the mushroom kingdom through a warp pipe. In yoshi’s island it seems his parents live in the mushroom kingdom though. And in partners and time baby mario and luigi are there during the shroob invasion in the past. I love partners in time a lot but I also rlly like mario being a new yorker so it’s hard to have my cake and eat it too. I guess he could be born in the mushroom kingdom then move to NY then come back? I’m not too sure. I’d like to know your take on it.

SORRY FOR TAKING SO LONG TO GET TO THIS. yeah i'm gonna be honest my take is sort of vague and meaningless because as a kid i just wanted every single thing to take place in one universe. and i sucked at making that happen. to me it sort of went like, they were delivered / born / whatever in yoshi's island to their parents. then those guys were like wait these arent our kids. then they were delivered to their actual parents or whatever (i have never really played yoshi's island i'm sorry) and they lived there for a couple of years and probably spent a lot of time with peach / around the castle because i figure if kamek was aware of the whole star children thing it's likely that at least some people in the mushroom kingdom would want them there for that. and mario has fought bowser a couple of times as a baby so who knows.

then after partners in time rolls around their parents who were sort of letting them hang around the castle went ermmmm actually nvm. we are going to brooklyn 1990 because it is Much Safer There. [looks into the camera like in the office]. and then they kind of lived in new york city for 20 years before getting dragged back to the mk in a tragic plumbing accident. even though i know they love their jobs as plumbers and are genuinely passionate about it i will admit that i like to think that mario wanted to go into paramedicine or nursing and luigi to university for aerospace engineering or something but it wasn't really feasible for them before the great eeby deebing 😔

i honestly don't really know how i imagine their parents, a lot of people have really lovely designs and concepts for them, and there's been a lot more stuff on them since the mario movie came out and gave people these dubiously canon characters to work with, but they just don't come up much in my mind. i don't want to be like "they died 💀" but also like mario and luigi are in their mid 20s and if they somehow ended up in the mushroom kingdom i figure their parents would also be able to go back there. but then you think about like the whole deal with the cartoons how the way between worlds was sealed and stuff and it just gets confusing to try and make everything work 😭

there are honestly a couple of ways i imagine their backstory, like saying oh they fell into a warp pipe themselves while exploring baby style after PiT and were adopted and raised in brooklyn or just going oh they have their own room in the castle in PiT so they probably lived there as kids or just saying they were just born in brooklyn and ended up in the mk like in the the cartoons and ignoring yoshi's island and PiT but none of them are very cohesive or really make much of a difference in how i imagine their characters yknow?

i have the same dilemma as you because i also love mario being a new yorker but parnters in time is my favourite M&L game

ok i want to talk about bluey for a minute. won’t be my new focus ofc but. i want to talk about it.

specifically what makes it So fascinating and legitimately Good to pretty much All age ranges. both overall and for me personally. therefore,, long post. buckle up :)

also i just want to say that liking bluey when you’re older is only weird if you/people Make it weird. if you’re just enjoying it for what it is (ie the things that i’m gonna talk abt in this post !!) then there’s no reason you can’t like it!! ((basically i’m very afraid of being judged for this so i have to keep telling myself that it’s just like liking any other piece of really well done media. bc like. bluey Is well done. on so many levels))

that being said. bluey. it’s fuckin Incredible across the board. here’s why:

first things first: the Content of bluey. it doesn’t treat kids like they don’t know anything. in fact, pretty much everything in bluey is shown through things most kids already Do. like 99% of the time bluey episodes are just about kids Existing and doing kid stuff like playing games (which bluey and bingo do a LOT of) and interacting with their friends, parents and community as a whole! and the way it Does that is so realistic to how kids actually act (trust me. summer camp counselor here).. it’s got all the randomness and creativity that kids always have when they express what’s in their heads!!

so then bluey Takes that and puts it into something that is enjoyable to watch for virtually anyone.. bc for kids, that’s what they Do so it’s relatable to them…

but for other age groups it’s nostalgic. like i watch bluey and i’m reminded of a) my kids at camp :) and b) myself when i was younger… and it’s just a cool way to get some of those memories back.. like the barky boats ep!! my school did the “buddies” thing too :) that one is one of my favorite eps in the whole show for that reason!!

and that’s also why watching bluey can legitimately be so Healing too.. (or on the other hand can make you realize you have more Issues than you thought. also speaking abt myself here lol) because the heeler family is So healthy (like holy shit their communication is incredible) while still being realistic (they Aren’t perfect!!) so it’s like. you watch it and it’s like. woah. this is something that Could’ve happened. it is possible. and even when you’re older you can watch bluey and take stuff out of it, parent or not..

(also i want to mention chili and bandits marriage, too. not just the way they parent but how they also just genuinely have a good marriage!! and seeing that is so nice bc like. they may be cartoon dogs but i still want what they have yknow)

i think bluey can also make people more… empathetic?? i guess,, towards kids. like i like kids just fine. don’t want to Have any when i’m older but.. bluey provides a better understanding as to how they Work. it shows their thought processes through the games and decisions the heeler sisters and co make so anyone older who watches (parents or otherwise) can interact with them and Understand them better. the whole show is really good abt tackling generational gaps like that too. it goes back to the communication the heeler family has. like seriously. it shows it makes a difference!

also i love how it shows that bluey has this Habit she does to process events.. she’ll basically make whatever Happened into a game to help her understand better and she’ll just do it all exactly how it happened in her actual life. she does it in daddy putdown (the ep where chili had to leave for a night to go to a baby shower) and copycat (bluey starts out just copying bandit but then they find a hurt bird, they took it to the vet, but it still died) and i just think that’s rlly cool that bluey Does that..

last Content thing i want to talk abt is just how amazing the way bluey covers heavier topics like death, even if it’s just an animal (copycat) and infertility (onesies) is. it doesn’t go Too deep, but still deep enough for kids to understand that it’s important to Know about more real life stuff too yknow.. camping kind of does this with the whole language barrier between bluey and jean luv too.. it just kinda Touches on things so kids can understand that other situations exist (i guess that’s the best way to say it??) without getting Too heavy! and i think that’s just really cool.

(not to mention that the storylines of so many bluey episodes are so fucking beautiful and heart wrenching in the best way. the story telling across the whole show is just Gorgeous!!)

I really loved the mix of cgi and practical effects they used! I’m slowly making my way through Frankenstein! I actually picked up this copy from a local used bookstore and didn’t realize until later that it’s a Norton Critical edition. So it has the original 1818 text plus a bunch of extra historical context and annotations, which is pretty cool!

I’m also re-reading the first Wolves of the Beyond book, I read the whole series once as a kid and thought it would be fun to revisit. its....okay. Definitely not as well written as I remember but I guess I should have expected that lol

i like music a lot!!! dont rlly have a specific genre i like, cus if i like the song it goes in my playlist. but some artists i like are wave to earth, txt (my bfs real), sabrina carpenter, conan gray (loml), doja cat, B.I, DPR IAN, and i really like afrobeats in general. i like me some rock too‼️ i also love to go outside when i feel like it and breathe in the fresh air cus tbh i love the smell of places specifically like not objects PLACES. for example my storage room has such a nice refreshing smell i cant explain and whenever i go in new places i just take all the time in world to SMELL. i love my friends sososo much i would die for them and take a bullet for them like even if i dont talk to ALL of my friends, i still appreciate all of them and would beat up anyone who bothers any of them!!! i like watching movies and shows sometimes too, especially cartoons cus theyre so comforting idk why. i also really like watching ice skating performances (yuzuru u are my king)!!!! i love the gratefulness of the sport and its ethereal vibe like idk i like it a lot. i like to go ice skating w my friends or family members during fall or winter (u could say this is the only sport i practice🧐) oh and my favorite seasons r winter and spring btw

I feel like the dehumanization of cc can also be applied to ep 1 in a sense? Because kinda think about Charlie? What was he known for in genloss? Not really about Charlie the streamer, but his character. Also sneeg, he made friends with a skeleton and humanizes it. Does any viewer’s questions it? Nope, just another form of comedy. Irl that is really concerning if you were to do that. Yknow known more for their characters instead of being amazing storytellers, actors, writers, etc.

Also on the topic of the meanings the community adopted, I just realized how many secret meanings could have just buried 6ft under? In the genloss talking about stream if Ranboo didnt point out the meaning of the mask(if he takes it off the show ends) like would anyone question it if they didn’t point it out? I sure as heck didn’t to me it was just a cool way to show mind control and hide their face.

 I kinda feel like the audience in general has a lot more meaning because like the whole thing is being controlled by showfall media/ being controlled by social media. We are kinda assumed the main intended meaning is dehumanization of cc and I kinda think like what else? Because you know how the internet can be what if there is a theory that did make sense but just got to much hate to reach the surface? Genloss is created by Ranboo and the producers etc but also the audience and how they adopt the cc/characters to their liking.

Okay I just saw this post and like I NEED TO TALK ABOUT THIS I JUST 

In ep 3 when we picked the red combination code in the computer, but Ranboo didn’t put in the one we picked because they thought we were wanting to kill him. At the very end we did kill him they died thinking we wanted to kill him for entertainment, but we killed him because we wanted to save him. kinda hit or miss, but relates to chat. Chat says stupid shit because it’s funny yknow. Idk how much Ranboo streams you watch, but like in killer frequency chat keeps telling them that they missed something when they didn’t, chat tells them they picked the wrong option when it was right. It’s kind of weird because it’s to a point when chat suggests something you don’t know if they’re trying to mess with Ranboo or actually trying to help. It creates this  relationship of slightly broken trust where Ranboo doesn’t know if chat is playing with them or actually trying to help.

on my last theory I made last time because I don’t like how I worded it:

How if the internet doesn’t like your interests and personality you are forced to changed to actually be successful. Kinda how at the end of ep 2 they are literal cartoon characters. When you try to seek help and turn back to yourself it always ends the same: death of your channel and content.

And yeah ep 1 definitely has some cc dehumanizing in there looking back on it, just much more subtler than eps 2 and 3 obvs. With Sneeg especially. Right as he’s introduced, we learn that Sneeg tried to complete Slime’s trials, failed, and was stuck in a cage, while not being particularly angry about it. Like it’s understandable that he’s trapped, that it was his fault and he gets that ig? And then for the rest of the series, he acts a Ranboo’s funny sidekick, doing everything he can to get Ranboo, not himself, to the end. The only time Sneeg’s character shows any agency for himself is ep 2 when he’s wearing the hat and, after reassuring Ranboo that he’ll come back for him, tries to escape the mall. But he gets caught, brainwashed, and returns back to his cynical yet helpful self again. So within the context of the audience perception of ccs, Sneeg’s character only serving as a benefit to Ranboo and without him (locked up in a cage) Sneeg is nothing, makes it all so… icky.

I think that’s why I don’t enjoy the dehumanizing cc theory all that much. It never fails to make me viscerally uncomfortable whenever I think about it for too long. Which like, wow genloss doesn’t have a happy ending and is supposed to make you uncomfortable? no shit sherlock. Yeah yeah I know but that interpretation is just too real for me. With the no choice or timeloop theories, we are able to absolve ourselves from blame since this is what Showfall wanted to happen. Still not reassuring but I’m used to not having control over what happens, be it social, politically, economically, etc. But through viewing the characters as their cc counterparts, their pain becomes so personal, that we have no one to blame but ourselves for the suffering they endure. And while I know I personally wasn’t at fault for this, (I was a lurker on twitch twitter and tumblr at Ranboo’s “peak,” I couldn’t share my opinion even if I wanted to) I still feel a sense of responsibility knowing that I can’t do anything about it now. I can’t stop random people for harassing Niki, but I’m still shameful that it happened in the first place. It’s like secondhand embarrassment cranked up to 1000%.

I want to watch Lex’s video essay so badly but I have to wait until I’m in a right enough headspace because I know it will leave me feeling desolate after. I haven’t seen the killer frequency steam yet but I believe you 100% that that’s how chat behaved. I know this because I was there for the late night mining streams, having to sit through chat screaming DIAMONDS at Ranboo just for shits and giggles. Like no wonder he doesn’t trust chat. Which for me makes it all worse since it’s seemingly shows that his audience has learned nothing. If they view Generation Loss as Ranboo’s cry for help, pleading with his audience to see him as a human being and not just a commodity, then why are choosing to treat him exactly the same as before? Maybe that’s why voting to kill Ranboo was so easy for me. I never viewed myself as their judge and jury, just his executioner simply following orders. Maybe I was wrong…

…Anyways, tangent aside, I also tend to take into consideration the gen 1 teasers into my theories. Like the browser game and the video experiment thing, which all had predetermined endings and no references to content creation, further my interpretation. Plus, I just enjoy finding little things and making meaning out of them, my most popular example being Austin being dubbed “The Gay” by Showfall when during emotional scenes, Austin played the role as “the straight man” in improv. Like during the carousel voting, we were able to vote for more than two people and I took that not as a technical bug but as foreshadowing that who we choose didn’t really matter to Showfall, which was “confirmed” when they all ended up dead. And how we were able to vote multiple times during the final choice, making me think we had no real choice to begin with. The latter two were being able to experience live, I don’t blame others for not catching them.

i know we as a collective society believe in gamer! eren supremacy. and yes, this is a good take. however, may i introduce to you: normie/fuckboy/jock eren with gamer/nerd gf. thoughts under the cut (safe for work, pg-13, also slight snk spoilers for season 3 and up!)

see, eren isnt necessarily a fuckboy. in fact, hes very loyal! he doesnt really think that way about any girls or guys except you. but hes popular romantically and had a reputation for sleeping around before he met you (not that theres anything wrong with that but ya know word travels fast across campus). plus, cmon the dude is in a frat, super hot and has a tongue piercing. he cant blame anyone for thinking he is a fuckboy bc he exudes the energy.

you are kind of the complete opposite. you dont really enjoy parties and you keep to yourself. you're a total wreck when it comes to flirting and your kinda oblivious to whenever people like you. you dont have many friends and are a bigger fan of 2d people than 3d.

either way eren finds you so so so cute. he first approached you at one of his frat parties. your roommates convinced you to come after she said that someone (read: connie) had a dance dance revolution mat, but you kinda just stuck around in a corner staring at your cup once you lost them. he looks you up and down-- your outfit was pretty cute, a short plaid orange pleated skirt, dress shirt, orange cardigan and black beret laying neatly upon your head. and your face... he couldn't help himself but try to talk to you. you were really anxious because wahhh scary sports guy you dont know but he was kinda instantly comforting? in a way? and he was freaking pretty. he looked like a final fantasy character--long haired characters were your type. the rest was kind of history.

a lot of people are shocked when they find out your dating bc you two are so different (some people are surprise eren “dates” at all) but no one dares question your relationship when they see how much eren dotes on you. he has so many polaroids of you in his wallet-- from the many arcade dates you bring him on where you decimate him at almost every game, you awkwardly posing in the hentai section of bookstores, or just candids of you being intensely focused on a puzzle in a game. whenever you guys go out to eat and somethings wrong with your meal, he'll send it back (in a polite way, of course, but hes still assertive.) or if you buy like a figurine and its misisng something hes marching up to the cashier stand for you. he always has an arm around your waist or is holding is hand in yours. sometimes you just cling onto his arm and rest your head on it (hes comfy!!!!! and you are always tired) your both pretty clingy, but you get kinda awkward when you two are around people you know so he just kinda subtly holds you as to not make a scene. its nice. hes comfy.

youve got dual monitors, a pc you made yourself, rgb keyboard, the whole nine yards. all your consoles are up to date and you keep a handheld system on you at all times. you spend most your weekends watching anime and movies and tv shows and your shelves are piled high with books and comic books. eren literally does not understand any of it. when you told him you built your pc he goes "you made all those microchippy things? youre soooo smart babe". when you talk about some of your weirder or more complicated animes he nods along but honestly he gets so lost ("so like, lemme get this straight, the kids dad's wife ate his mom?" "yeah but like she was turned into a titan so she didn't realllllly know it was the dads wife, but like she literally walks past this titan shifter so i think she knew." "thats crazy.") and he will never understand the point of otome games when hes literally right there. he actually has a really bad habit of getting jealous of characters you have a crush on but you just find it funny. sometimes he gets an ego boost when they look like him because even if they look like him he is actually real so they can suck it.

hes rlly supportive tho. erens a rlly passionate person and he loves you a lot so he pours a lot of passion into what you do. if you are into esports/fps games hes cheers you on all the time and does all the raging for you ("BABE THAT GUY IS STREAM SNIPING! "pft. get a load of this guy. clingy much?" "its romantic! youre jealous.")

one of his favorite things to do with you is cuddle and watch anime. usually he lies his face on your thighs or chest while watching and you play with his hair or he holds you in his chest and you play with one of his hands while the other goes behind his head. he grew up on some of the classics like naruto sailor moon one piece pokemon and dbz but he never got super into it until he started dating you. you put him on to soooo many good shows (cartoons, anime, and live action) hes both a crier and he is a get-angrier(?). he gets mad on characters behalfs and you have to pause the show so he can rant about how annoying someone is or he feels so bad for someone so he has to take a minute because hes tearing up. he likes slice of life anime because the friendships <3 theyre so wholesome and they remind him of him armin and mikasa but he also likes shounen because it is entertaining to watch fights. he gets really into them actually. he also has this really bad habit of whenever there is a character with no parents or a dead mom he goes "oh same" or "welcome to the club buddy" under his breath. when theres a cute couple in an anime you both like guys get matching keychains of them unless one of them dies because he thinks its bad luck. his favorite animes are haikyuu, your lie in april and code geass.

you are equally supportive of erens volleyball career. you know all the rules because sports anime and you actually find yourself really liking it in 3d as well (it is lacking in bromance and screaming but you let it slide). you go to all his games and he always texts you before his practices. has a habit of kissing you before games and one day after he kisses you go "gg ez win" as a JOKE but then they like decimate their long time rival marley university and get into nationals (is that a thing for volleyball idk sports) so hes convinced its because you did your "gamer magic". now every time after getting his good luck kiss he interlocks your pinkies and you go "gg ez win" and he goes “yes.” because to this day he doesnt know what it means (he thinks googling it is like breaking the magic)

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH THANK YOU SO MUCH It genuinely means a lot. Where do i even begin

american animation had been in like a complete dark age (save for a few bright moments) from like the late 60s through most of da 80s. at least in television: i don’t think there’s a lot of ways to create a great animated tv show bc the production process is so rigid and asks for boatloads of content to be released one after the other after the other. artists had to take a lot of shortcuts to keep up with the strict deadlines that were inherent to the very medium they were working in, and i think it rlly did a number on the quality of american animation. combine this w the fact that by the 80s Every tv cartoon was just an advertisement for a toy + animation had garnered a reputation of being for kids, and it rlly did look like the future of television animation was just dead

But then…… mighty mouse the new adventures 😼 created by THE ralph bakshi who made the first adult american animated film (fritz the cat is like a #1 favorite film of mine I love it to bits 😁), and was supported by a shitload of younger animators who had enough of working in what they saw as a hopeless medium. they let a lot of their anger and frustration out through the show, and they all kinda bonded through their shared cynicism and boredom lol. 3 of them, including the senior director of the show Who was also like. kinda bakshi’s protege (john k), decided to form their own studio, and the studio hereby declared as spümcø formed a couple years later through the addition of a final 4th co-founder

so like a little while after spümcø was created, a small company known as nickelodeon was looking for animators to create their own original cartoons. Some of the higher-ups at nick wanted to reach out to a large younger audience, and they noticed the manufactured state of television animation and thought that it was terrible entertainment for these potential viewers. nick held meetings with a lot of aspiring creators, and spümcø was one of the last of them: they got lucky as all hell, and before they knew they had one of the 1st nicktoons on their hands

Why did i tell you all this lol???? bc ren and stimpy was very much a product of its time And i think that made it so timeless: the anger and cynicism that essentially created the studio absolutely bled over to r+s and it absolutely shows. the creators have gone out of their way to clarify that its a show for kids bc of how controversial its content was, but i really dont think that was the case And i mean that in the best way possible. it was more a show for them: they got a chance to make the cartoons they had been waiting their whole careers to make, and they took it. the look of the show wears its inspirations on its sleeve, harkening back to early hanna-barbera tv shows and bob clampett’s warner brothers cartoons that the animators had grown up on (which is actually another reason why i think the show is cool… They purposefully avoided the artistic shortcuts i mentioned earlier!! This method definitely had its faults but it created a really beautiful looking show that appreciated that it was animated ya know); there were jokes and pop culture references, but they were in the form of non-sequiturs to old kirk douglas movies and burl ives songs that no 10 year-old was ever gonna understand; there were real emotions on display, but they werent overly syrupy happiness and the like, there was like genuine discomfort and horror at times. this weird ass show came from a place of pure anarchy. It was very much a reaction to all the ways television animation had been wronged in the past, but it created this edgy and counterculturist show that helped bring life back to a medium previously considered dead, and it opened the gateway to countless other shows like it. for example, ren and stimpy also aired on mtv (which is so weird to think about. A nicktoon was on mtv) and the shows success was a reason why the channel agreed to produce mike judge’s short “frog baseball” into a full series, which obviously became beavis and butt-head. And without beavis and butt-head we wouldnt have like the past 30 years of adult animated television so there ya go

but also like! going back to that eric andre quote, that style of uncomfortable comedy mustve influenced a lot of modern comedies, at the very least because r+s helped make that style more mainstream. not to mention the shows gross-out humor, which was seen as sooooo controversial back in the day

just wanted to say i’ve been thinking about your (rlly old) post (on twt i think) where you said something like “exile arc shouldn’t have happened” and ive never agreed w a take more than i have before (also you should post more of your hot takes since imo all of them are actually rlly good and True)

it not only shouldn’t have happened because of the reasons you listed, that too, but it also just created an obvious unbalance with how some of the characters were portrayed and talked about in both the dsmp and the fandom. Like, c!dream is this extremely dark character who is shown to having little to no hesitation in going to extreme lengths to get what he wants and what he sees as right, and exile arc was carried out so well it’s like something out of a psychological horror (kinda? couldn’t think of a better comparison) series + the way the fandom now sees c!dream is Just.. Something

(i’m not saying any of this in a neg way btw, just all observations) for example, the other day, i saw this lighthearted post about the exile arc summarized and it was a short funny animatic, though in the qrts you see multiple people tagging “// c!dream, exile arc,” as some sort of warning. What i’m trying to say is that the exile arc has heavily affected a lot of people / made a lot of people uncomfortable and unable to watch some of the streams + some people say that they find c!dream reminding them of their abuser and are unable to feel any sort of remorse for him at all bc of this (not blaming them, again, just observations). Can this be said for any other character/villain on the DSMP at all…? no, no not really. not as widespread anyway.

that’s what’s so frustrating to me about the exile arc. it made c!dream way, way more darker and realistic than any other villain, and this created an extreme unbalance amongst the villains of the smp.

take one look at c!quackity, c!wilbur, and c!schlatt. there’s two things they have all have in common and it’s that

a) they’re mostly taken as funny cartoon-villains by the fandom, like disney villains who will monologue and dramatize everything they do (to some extent) — **(this somewhat excludes c!quackity in the Actual lore though and i’ll explain that later)

and b) their affect negative effect on other characters’ is rarely ever talked about by the characters themselves, making majority of the fandom undermine some of the things they [the villains] actually have done, and gloss over it easily or with little to no second thought — (meanwhile, on the other hand we have c!dream and the consequences of his actions constantly talked about)

now we’re left with c!dream who is out of place when put next to each of these people. of course, all of them are threatening and.. well.. do villain-y things, but none of them are quite like c!dream, don’t have the same effect he does. (this makes c!dream stand out even more)

it would be much more fitting if the other villains were at the very least explored to have dark traits

**(talking about c!quackity) so here i said “actual lore” because the same is not applied / perceived in the fandom. in the lore, c!quackity is portrayed to be (currently) doing extremely dark things and having dark intentions along with them, (ie- c!dream’s torturing). torture is obviously a dark topic. the dsmp explores the topic of torture and whether or not people (bad people, in this case, which makes this whole situation much more interesting) deserve it or not. BUT, this does not hinder how c!quackity is perceived by the fandom… why?

because a) the very few people who are aware of c!dream’s torture don’t speak out about it and barely acknowledge it as something undeserved and wrong. one is someone who c!dream has manipulated and gaslit in the past, one is someone who barely considers c!dream a friend and went head to head with him in war, and the other two are c!sam and c!quackity (the person who is freely letting the torture happen in the first place, and the torturer himself. so obviously these two, who think c!dream is deserving of it, won’t speak out)

and b) the audience/fandom themselves think c!dream is deserving of the torture, just because he’s a bad person, so they are willing to brush off c!quackity’s dark actions as “justice” and “revenge” - and in turn not understanding the full weight of what he’s doing

This was a gift from a prompt by SpiritusRex (secret identity or mistaken identity) and I just went immediately for DFO, but with a twist. I'm just a sucker for big brother Shigaraki lol. I don't know why this one of all my oneshots is the most kudosed?? I guess it just hit a lot of the right targets, mistaken identity and crack being a fun thing people like. Personally I think it's alright, I wrote it half-tired (as most of my crack is written half-tired lol) but ppl seem to like that???

Most Popular Multi-chap (by kudos): 'you can't help the things your heart longs for'

This is my longest fic, still ongoing. A kind of weird DFO set up where Izuku is dragged unwillingly into a parallel universe where he's in the place of Shigaraki, but also sort of not that because the whole universe is made from the combination of DFO and Izuku's desires, and the fic goes through Izuku finding his place in this world and the complications that come from this being made of their desires. I swear this fic is going to be the death of me, I love it so but why did I have to make it soo complicated for myself, *stares at outline* also Dabi and Hawks kinda shoved their way in there and I have to keep batting off the Dabihawks with a stick *it's staying gen goddamnit i made a promise I wouldn't put romance in this*. I think it's the most popular because it has a premise that is kind of different, and has DFO, while also not being too angsty.

Favourite Story I've Written: 'Dekunubou'

I just love Ella Enchanted AU's so I was wanting to write one a whileeeeee. I just love the horror type aspect of this type of the quirk being taken to the extreme, the complete stripping of agency and objectification of Izuku. Also figuring out how to beat it was fun, with the moment when Katsuki figures out how to use the quirk for his own benefit by (technically) joining the LOV being one of the first things I thought of for this.

Fic You Were Nervous to Post: 'A Whisper of a Dream'

Uhhh the tags itself may be self-explanatory... "Torture" "Mouth Sewn Shut" "Needles", Idk I'm just drawn to writing heavy angst and this was the first one of those so I was scared ppl might think it too much? After posting this one, I've gotten less nervous about what I write as I saw ppl didn't rlly care, and some actually liked it. So freedom in going wild, I guess lol.

How do you choose your titles: Either song lyrics or I get a friend to help me come up with it. I'm awful at titles. Every one is a quote from somewhere.

Do you outline? I do for my longfics, I don't for oneshots. I find them sooo useful for longfics as I struggle so hard without them (which is why YCH hasn't been updated in so long, I'm in the bit that was outlined less strongly). I sincerely recommend them to anyone trying to write longfics!

Complete: Only like 12% of my fics are incomplete, so I'm pretty proud of that. None of them have been dropped except for the two non-bnha ones because I cannot concentrate on anything past my current hyper-focus rofl.

In Progress: You Can't Help, Twisted Soul are the two major longfics I'm working on rn, I'm trying to finish Twisted before I start writing a lot for YCH, so YCH may take a while to get regular updates again. Sorry for anyone that's more interested in that fic lol.

Coming soon: Ahh I have too many one shots that i start, write 500 words for and just leave... but my current WIPS take priority. Oo but one that should be posted soon is one where Shouto is sent to a different universe to see a Villain version of himself to see what he could have become without the support of ppl like Midoriya.

Not started: Oof. Too many ideas. Some day i will write a proper Dbhwks long fic. Oo also one where Shinsou reluctantly becomes a villain. Another one which is like Into the Spiderverse but with Villain au's for class 1-a. I will get to them someday. Just not today. Rn is DFO brainrot rofl.

Upcoming Work You're Most Excited About: Wip wise, I'm really excited for what I've got coming up for Twisted Soul. It's probably my angstiest fic because i am just too mean to Midoriya. Really, someone should take him away from me. Far far away.

hi!!! first of all i adore your art so much!!!! like daddy jesus, it gives me life. u draw rlly good poses, so maybe u have some tips? or any good places to find references cuz i can only find pretty stiff looking pictures and thats sad :((((

Tips! Yes! I have those, since it’s a thing I’ve always struggled a lot with too, so I ended up hunting down and hoarding tips like an artist dragon with fancy pictures of gold - disclaimer, even though I know of these tips it doesn’t necessarily mean I’m good at following them. Because I’m a mess. SO! TIPS!

 - When trying to decide on a pose, try to picture the whole action behind it instead of just the single instance! If we were to talk in animation terms, I’d say try to picture the whole sequence instead of just a single, specific frame of it. What is your character doing? Picture in your head the whole movement, and then pick a frame that’s smack in the middle of it - this is because generally the stiffer moments through an action are the beginning and the end of it, so drawing the middle will give your pose a lot more life! If you’re unsure about exactly which moment of the action would work best, draw thumbnails of a few different “frames” of it and pick the one that flows best for you

 - Related to that, when looking for references generally I prefer looking for videos instead of pictures, specifically to get a better sense of how the whole movement flows and where it would be best to stop it. In the same vein, I’ve made a habit of at least partially always keep an eye out for body language while watching movies/tv shows/cartoons&anime, because while real life is just as much a good source of reference as anything else, actors and animators tend to exaggerate movements to make them more captivating and eye-catching, and that’s what we’re looking for when drawing too! It’s all in the drama of it, look for the drama

 - “A real life person wouldn’t do that/move like that/bend like that”, that’s okay, this isn’t a real life person! Exaggerating the shapes and lines is a good way of increasing the flow of your pose, as long as you don’t make it grotesque then pushing on the shapes and curves is always a good idea! Unless you meant to go for grotesque, in which case push all you want, who’s to stop you. In this specific area action lines are your best friends, so if you feel your pose is stiff or lacks life, try finding the action line in it and push it more - you can find a lot of youtube tutorials on action lines and gesture drawing, in case you want to look more into that! Only god and my youtube history know how long I’ve spent doing just that

 - Talking about youtube, if you want to work on your flow a good way is to try out the one minute figure drawing exercises - they give you a pose, you have one or two minutes to sketch it out depending on the video, then it moves to the next pose. It’s a good way to loosen up your lines, in my experience! This is a nice playlist for that, in case you wanna give it a go!

 - Rewinding a bit and going back on body language, if you want your pose to feel alive and be realistic while at the same time conveying a specific mood or feeling, maybe you’ll want to look into how people express themselves through body language! I always see this suggested to writers to set the mood without explicitly stating the emotion, but it’s a wonderful tip for artists too the way I see it (mostly so if you’re drawing a comic, actually!). A good list is this one, give it a skim!

 - More than a tip it’s a trick, really, but giving a prop to your character can help make the pose more interesting - there’s only a finite number of things a character can do standing alone by themselves with nothing to occupy them with, an object or an animal or a second character to interact with really do make finding an interesting pose easier!

That was a lot of theory there, wasn’t it, let’s go for some practical tips too (featuring Horikoshi’s pencil sketches, because I love them and he’s very, very good at this whole posing thing)

 - If you picture your character as standing in an open space and the eyes of the viewers as a camera, moving the camera around them to find an interesting angle adds a lot of depth to the pose. It can be really, really tempting to just draw them from the front and eye level, but sometimes even just raising or lowering the camera the smallest bit helps with giving the drawing life - perspective! I know, I hate it too orz but we’re working hard to overcome that problem, because look at Horikoshi’s latest Kirishima sketch!

so alive! So beautiful! The pose in itself isn’t all that special, but the angle he decided to draw it at sure helps give him life. A thing I do often is to draw a thumbnail of the scene I’m trying to draw from the most boring angle possible, to make sure of where everything is, and then metaphorically move the camera around to try and find a more interesting angle to portray it from - it helps! At least, it does for me haha

 - Keeping it asymmetrical makes the pose dynamic! Let’s look at Toga over here

Her legs and arms are an obvious example of this, but specifically I marked for you the hips line and shoulders line to show you how they aren’t paralel either, because that’s a little thing that’s generally a good idea to keep in mind when you want to give a bit more of movement to your posing! It’s true in photography too, actually. If you want a full body selfie to look good, try keeping shoulders and hips on non-paralel lines, it makes the whole thing look a lot more professional 

 - Keeping that Toga pic as our set example, hair and clothes give a lot of movement to the pose too! If you draw someone in the middle of an action, their clothes and hair are (possibly, if the clothes are loose enough and hair long enough) going to move with the action too - they show the direction of the motion, so keep that in mind when drawing them. Additional tip! If your character is just standing still, wind is a thing you can always make use of to give a bit more movement to the whole set-up!

 - It’s a good idea to keep all the noise in your pose on one side, to give it a bit more balance and make it less chaotic - let’s use Jirou here as our example

the lines on the right side are a lot more simple and straight than the ones on her left, as I tried to very roughly mark for you - all details and “noisy” bits are all on the same side too, so that your eyes can easily focus on what’s important in the pic without getting lost all over the canvas. Balance and asymmetry! Again! It’s an easy way to make poses interesting, after all!

 - That said, it’s not like you can never keep it symmetrical - the human brain actually likes that symmetry a whole lot, finds it compelling! It has to be perfectly symmetrical, though. Let’s look at Bakugou, because why not, always a good time to look at Bakugou

if you drew a line in the middle of his face and down his body, you’d see he’s pretty much perfectly symmetrical - that’s nice! That works! ...why does it work, though? This goes a bit more into composition and less into posing, but this has to do with the rule of thirds: generally and very simply, the rule is that for a picture to be well composed it needs to be set so that the main focus isn’t smack in the middle of the canvas. Some examples with the pics I just posted up there!

The way the bodies are positioned and the way in which the empty spaces are used respect the rule of thirds pretty dang neatly, and that helps make the pictures look less stiff too, between the others things! It gives balance to the whole composition, and makes it more lively! (The reason why it works with Kirishima is that the focus of the drawing is less him as a whole and more his face and right fist - so very neatly positioned! I’m in awe, ngl)

Bakugou’s case is a bit different thoguh, and that’s why the symmetry works there!

when you want to go for the symmetrical look you sort of need to forget about the rule of thirds, as far as I’ve been thought - symmetrical means tidy, and it’s only really tidy if it’s symmetrical based on a line traced right in the middle of the canvas, so Bakugou’s center is right along the median axis, and his pose works even if it’s pretty stiff, by all means.

(this goes into the rules of making a good portrait work, actually, but the lack of empty space all around him helps with keeping it looking well composed and tidy, too. There’s a lot of little tips and tricks that help make a pose work when it comes to composition, really!)

(Also, to be fair this last bit about the rule of thirds wasn’t exactly necessary or particularly well explained, I’ll be real, but while browsing Horikoshi’s twitter I realized how neatly all his sketches follow the rule and I needed to gush about that for a sec, it’s how being a fan works haha hope it was useful at least a bit to you, though!)
