I just realized that neopronouns are so cool because you can take they/them/their as a blueprint and then just replace the first sound with any letter and it sounds legit. You can mix and match and make your own and it's pretty easy for people to learn once they have they/them/their down.

So one way I keep Welsh (Cymraeg) alive in my brain is by translating Hello from the Hallowoods into Welsh. So far I’ve only been sticking to season 1 intros because actually doing the story would be quite the commitment and come with some complicated decisions.
But out of curiosity, I’d like some opinions on:
(If anyone is interested in more about Welsh and why I’m asking this, here’s my very very long ramblings below)
Welsh translations I’ve read often translate names which I’m not fussed on since it can change the intended ethnicity of a character and diminish diversity. The Welsh alphabet is different though (and we often translate names into the English alphabet, too), we don’t have ‘x’ ‘k’, ‘v’ or ‘z’. We have the sounds for ‘x’ ‘k’ and ‘v’ through ‘cs’ ‘c’ and ‘f’ (‘ff’ makes the english ‘f’ sound) but we don’t really have a ‘z’ (but we have ‘s’ which is the same just voiceless), it’s also very debated whether or not we have a ‘j’ (which makes the Wickers a frightening concept to translate). We had no ‘j’ sound so we added ‘j’ for loan words like ‘jiraf’ (giraffe). But some people think that’s us just tweaking our language to suit English. But quite frankly: if you speak welsh you know English well enough to know what the name ‘Kate’ is without making it spelt with a ‘c’. So the only names I’m planning to translate are object or verb ones like the mendes (and maybe the indies)
Some other questions I have: Like what type of ‘you’ should I use (it’s not always clear in english when someone is addressing a singular individual or multiple people or being polite or impolite, it actually makes English particularly effective for marketing)? Should I translate ‘Moth’ and moths pronouns to ‘Gwyfyn’ or keep it in English? Welsh doesn’t have a gender neutral object pronoun (we have a ‘they’ equivalent but no ‘it’ equivalent), so how should I refer to Creep? I’m not aware of any Neopronouns in Welsh, so what do I do then?
Here are welsh pronouns:
Female: hi / Ei + aspirate mutation
Male: e/fe/ef/o/fo/of / Ei + Soft Mutation.
(The many forms of ‘he’ come from dialect (o/e) and complicated rules about vowels (where the ‘f’ goes)).
They: nhw/eu (until the LGBT+ movement, I don’t know if ‘nhw’ was used for singular but it is now)
Objects are reffered to by their grammatical gender, welsh speakers rarely know grammatical gender (some people I’ve spoken to didn’t even know we had grammatical gender) so we just use masculine because the mutations are easier: so should Creep be changed to ‘nhw/ein’ to keep it gender neutral or to the grammatical gender of ‘amalgam of flesh and bone’?
There’s one cheat you can do with this, and that’s ‘mae’n’ is an abbreviation used for both ‘mae e’n’ and ‘mae hi’n’, (roughly means ‘it is’), but that means I’m heavily restricted to one tense and can’t talk about Creep in the past tense.
I could experiment and drop the pronoun, I suppose. Welsh is a pro-drop language. Dropping it in every tense and instance would be interesting at the very least. (Creep pronouns going to be: dim/diolch)
I was gonna delete all this but honestly? No, I enjoy ranting about the Welsh language, no one needs to read it if they don’t want to.

https://olderthannetfic.tumblr.com/post/737064447605096448/i-really-wish-my-countries-wannabe-queer#notes
To all the poor anglophones who feel personally offended that my languages does not do well with words starting with X in this case neopronouns, I deeply apologize from the bottom of my heart that my language doesn't use English pronunciations. How dare we not cater to the English speaking world? Afterall, they did their best to make the entire world speak it, how mean of us. And that because of that you felt so deeply offended that we find the use of x-based pronouns in our language to be complete shit because they simply do not work with our spoken language.
Foolish was it of me to expect people to infer the fact that I was indeed not speaking of the English language when I mentioned the issues with the flow of the language, and how people actually affected have at large found their own pronouns, -none of which include the X-pronouns because they simply are not that well suited for our languages phonetics nor even the writing-, and the fact that I mentioned "My country" and "the flow of the language" which could have been a simple clue that I'm not speaking of an English speaking country. Nay instead you built a straw-man and got angry because you really don't like remembering that the rest of the world exists. For anyone who's not so super special and does realize humans exist outside the English speaking world. THANK YOU FOR NOTICING! Geez.
I honest to God should've expected to see some people with those bottom of the barrel arguments, because those are so similar to the arguments the dreaded "my countries wannabe "queer representatives"" use constantly, while ignoring how people using NEUTRAL PRONOUNS actually decide their pronouns. (Which you'd call neopronouns, because they're neither male nor female nor objectifying, so NEUTRAL)
As to how the pronouns like Xie/Xir sound, you would have to specifically pronounce the X like you would when reciting the alphabet, then leave a pause, and then you have a choice of about 4-5 sounds you can just throw on. There is basically literally no way to use any of the X-pronouns because the letter X isn't used like that in our language, and the combination would just lead to random sound thrown in at the end.
There is a reason why languages don't all share the universal same spelling for pronouns, because languages have their own rules on writing, pronunciation, phonetics and how to understand all that. Why would you ever assume this won't also apply to neopronouns/neutral pronouns anyway? Ok, then your neopronounsin the Anglosphere are X-based, do you really think those will work in every language and will be useable in every other language? Or are you just so used to everyone being anglophone you never considered that some languages will just not be able to use them? Do you also think everyone in this world uses the term "neopronouns"? Just asking while we're at it.

Hey can I ask for a declension of your neopronouns?
Like is it -
Nominative - ae ?
Accusative - aer ?
Possessive - aers ?
Reflexive - aerself ?
And then singular verbs, like, "Ae likes to sit by aerself to read" ?
[grammar and linguistics nerd, trying to get it right 💗]
no yeah you got it exactly right!! pronunciations are "ay" like the first letter of the alphabet, then "air", "airs", and "airself"!!
I am not a linguistics nerd by any stretch but this is SO sweet thank you for asking. my neo pronouns don't get used super often but they mean a lot to me and so does this ask :33

Epicine & Neopronouns That Predate 1999
This list is very long, with many similar pronouns! Contrary to popular belief, neopronouns aren't that new, and were never that rare. A noticable potrion of this list contains neopronouns 100 or more years old, and even more that are 50+ years old!
The vast majority pronouns in this post are sourced from Aether Lumina. Some pronouns were left off this list, so if you want to dig deeper, check the page out!
And we're not kidding--the list under the cut is LONG!

Queer Resources!
This is by no means a complete list and it's something I will keep adding to and improving. If you have any helpful links not listed here, please send them my way!
Please reblog this post, as you never know who may desperately need one of these resources. Feel free to share individual links with friends/family as well. Knowledge is power, after all!
General:
Online safety guide for queer people This guide is extremely thorough, having sections for being online while queer in general, dating online, navigating the workplace, advice for queer people under 18, and more. If you grew up online and think you don't need to read any of this, I am begging you to read it. There's always something you don't know, something you won't think to do in a stressful situation. Please, please read through it all. Safety first!
Coming out handbook by The Trevor Project (PDF) A downloadable PDF walking you through the coming out process. It's a bit long, but well worth reading even if you have come out already to friends and/or family. It is very supportive of you, the reader, so it is wonderful if you feel unsure or nervous about your identity.
Quick guide for coming out (nonbinary focused) This is a briefer guide for if you or someone else just needs an overview of the process. It doesn't focus as much on the emotional support part and more on the logistics of coming out. So this one is good if you're very confident in your identity and just need to come out.
Pronouns and names:
Pronoun Dressing Room This site lets you try different pronouns AND names for yourself. You can fill the text fields with literally anything you want. It also has lots of neopronoun presets, organized alphabetically and by theme. To "try on" pronouns and names it uses a simple example paragraph where someone talks to their friend about meeting you. But there is also sections of public domain books where your name and pronouns replace the main characters'.
Pronouns Page This site allows you to make a "card" that lists all your names, flags/identities, pronouns, and terms you want used for you, as well as your preferences for/feelings about of them. It is highly customizable, you can add neopronouns, nounself pronouns, and emoji pronouns. You can even make separate cards for other languages. These cards can be easily shared with others and linked in profiles. It is also a huge resource for terminology, definitions and descriptions of identities, and how pronouns have been and are used in culture and fiction. There's also a full calendar of awareness days/week, appreciation days/weeks, and days of remembrance.
List of nonbinary names These are organized into separate pages by first letter. It includes non-English names, gives origin and meaning for each name, and, perhaps most helpfully, includes how often that name is used as a feminine or masculine name. Even if you are not nonbinary, this can still be helpful in choosing a new name. Personally I found this page infinitely more helpful than going to baby name lists, which are often split by gender and don't have as much for gender neutral names.
Gender:
The Nonbinary Wiki home page This wiki is an invaluable resource, I'm not exaggerating. It has almost everything you would want to know about gender, sexuality, and romantic attraction. It has who made the flags, their meanings, when terms were coined, archived posts, the history of identities, sub identities and micro labels... everything. I will note that understandably, the info for binary gender experiences on this wiki is limited.
List of (common) nonbinary identities This list gives descriptions, history, and more for every common gender identity that isn't strictly the binary female/woman or male/man. Almost every one of these identities has its own dedicated page which goes into further detail. And this list includes nonbinary identities that have existed in non-European and non-American cultures for centuries, or even thousands of years.
List of uncommon nonbinary identities This is a huge and detailed compilation of identities that have as little as one person known to use that label. It also has links to the original or archived posts where the term was coined, if available. This page can be used as something to help you figure out what you like and what you don't like in terms of gender identity. And you never know, the perfect label for you could be in here.
Legal recognition of transgender and nonbinary people by country This page details how inclusive, or exclusive, countries are to trans and nonbinary people. Such as if they allow "X" for gender/sex on ID and passports, what is required to have it changed, and how easy or difficult it is to change your legal name. Canada, the UK, and the USA have dedicated pages for this that go into further detail and provide more resources.
Romance and sexuality:
List of romantic and sexual orientations (nonbinary focused) This list does include common ones like lesbian, but also includes rare identities such as Aquian, being attracted only to people who's gender changes. As I said this is focused on orientations that do not assume you are a binary gender, the people you are attracted to are a binary gender, or that your gender is connected to your sexuality.
AUREA (The Aromantic-spectrum Union for Recognition, Advocacy, and Education) AUREA is not very large right now, but what it lacks in quantity it makes up for in quality. It has a large glossary of romantic, aromantic, queerplatonic, and other related terms. Which includes rare terms and identities under the aromantic umbrella. They have downloadable PDFs with basic info on aromanticism, as well as links to research that has been done on aromanticism.
Guide to Aromanticism This contains basic info about aromanticism, and "Am I Aro?" questioning section, and links to aro creators. Reading through the whole thing shouldn't take more than half an hour.
Allosexual Aromantic resources This site links to a wide variety of resources by, for, and information on allo-aros. There's terminology guides, how to write allo-aro characters, how to be a good ally towards allo-aros, essays, and fiction featuring allo-aro characters.
AVEN (The Asexual Visibility and Education Network) This is a wonderful resource for information on asexuality. It has a thorough FAQ section for both people questioning and friends/family who have questions and concerns about asexualism.
Asexual Perspectives This is a community blog where people can write about their experiences as asexuals. These posts are incredibly validating and eye-opening and I strongly recommend you read them.
The Gray Area This is a quick FAQ about greysexualism and demisexualism that is for questioning, allies, and people unfamiliar with greysexualism.
AVEN Forms AVEN hosts a form where asexuals, and people who once identified as asexual, can talk about their experiences.
An Asexual's Guide To... This is a brief sex ed taught from an asexual perspective. Which is to say it does not automatically assume you are interested in sexual activities and have some experience feeling sexual attraction. Even if you aren't asexual, it can be quite helpful in understanding the experience. It does not teach you much about the actual having sex part, though. It focuses more on being comfortable with yourself and your body. It is also inclusive to intersex people. (This guide has no pictures, if you were worried about that.)
Setting sexual boundaries with a partner list This is not queer specific but still helpful as it does not assume the sexual relationship is between the two binary sexes/genders and still works if you are intersex. To cut down the paragraphs at the beginning, this is a list of sexual and romantic actions and behaviours. You are supposed to assign a yes, maybe, no, or not applicable to everything on this list to indicate if you are willing, unsure, or will not do those things. It is suggested you go through it with your partner, but you can fill it out alone to figure out your preferences. This list/guide can be useful if you have sexual trauma and/or have had an abusive partner in the past and need to communicate what may trigger you.

6 and 15 for the pride ask game? Feel free to pick any character(s)
Hello thanks for the ask! (From this OC pride ask game)
6. How does your oc feel about labels? Theirs, or in general?
Lexi - respects it but doesn't get it; why does anyone need to label themselves? In middle school? Like you can figure it out later. Spoken by someone who's acearo and doesn't realize it. The attraction, like the label, will come eventually.
Maddie - doesn't really mind labels one way or the other; if you want to use them, doesn't bother her, if you don't, none of her business
Ash - same, she doesn't care, she's unfazed
Gwen - more curious as to why people pick certain labels and the nuances behind them
Robbie - oh labels are great! People can choose whatever feels right for them! Including none! (Wait, does he have a label? Uhhh he'll get back to you on that)
Akash - likes labels because they're organized even if it's arbitrary sometimes
Jedi - also likes labels, part due to organization, part due to just finding people kinda interesting
Carmen - the woman is the definition of "why aren't the dishes in alphabetical order" of course she likes labels
15. Do any of your ocs use neopronouns? Which ones?
Mentioned this last time, but so far the only OC I have that uses neopronouns is Eros from SOTL, who uses ze/zem/zir, though ze is not the only genderqueer character. SOTL is early in development, so there's plenty of time for a couple more with neopronouns.
And it's not off the table for TSP. Just hasn't happened yet.
Thanks!

Serious question ( and I hope it’s not offensive, I certainly don’t intend to be offensive…)
As a person with a native language that doesn’t offer many gender neutral terms or pronouns ( German) would it be okay to just use the first name/pseudonym instead?
For example:
Mel likes flowers, Mel likes roses more than other flowers.
What other options would you prefer?
( again, I don’t intend to be offensive, I just want to know what people that have pronouns that won’t work in my native language would be comfortable with me using instead. And I realize that may be different from person to person.)
Hi. I only fluently speak one language so I am not the expert on this topic. I have done some research and I will include other sources to back up what I’m saying here. If anyone who speaks multiple languages wants to chime in on this I would greatly appreciate your input!
So, first of all, there is no good excuse to not use someone pronouns. If someone exclusively uses my name solely to avoid using my pronouns, I find that offensive. That tells me the person either does not believe or support me and my identity, or they are not willing to put in the small effort to learn a new set of pronouns. It can be as simple as googling pronoun usage if you’re unsure about them.
If you’re speaking or typing in English, you should be using someone’s pronouns.
Now, I don’t want to diminish the difficulty of speaking in a language that is not your first. I understand that it is very difficult and it is especially difficult to use neopronouns in another language if you have not been exposed to them before. But you should still try. The easiest way to be an ally to the queer community is to use the language we use for ourselves.
I don’t know how my specific set of pronouns would translate to German because I don’t speak German. Since German and English use the same alphabet, I would recommend just taking the English pronoun and using it in the place where you would use a German pronoun.
There are neopronouns and gender neutral pronouns in German. Again, I do not speak German so I am not claiming to know more than you or to be an expert in this. But I did some searching online and I found multiple sources talking about alternate pronouns in German. I can’t read German, so I am not 100% sure what they say. Some of the websites have an English counterpart that explains neopronouns, so I assume the site is doing the same thing when I switch to German. I am sure there are more German sources for gender neutral pronouns if you look at German queer sources.
Here are some sources you can read to become more familiar with neopronouns in German:
Non-binary pronouns
Pronouns page
Exploring Genderqueer Identity Within Gendered German
It is always best to ask someone directly if you have questions about their pronouns. Some people might be okay with you using their name instead, but I am not. Also, some people prefer no pronouns, so in that case you would use their name like that.
Here is a guide to neopronouns I made to help you learn about them and learn how to practice them.
As long as you’re genuinely trying, I will not be offended if you mess up my pronouns. I know mine can take some time to learn if you have never seen neopronouns before.
But I deserve your effort, and so other queer people.

Idk why people get so mad about neopronouns.
The letter "x" is finally getting some use as the first letter in a word.
You know how many kids songs that use words to explain the alphabet always have the same words for the letter "x"?
"Xylophone", "X-ray", "X-ray fish", etc? Boring picks all used up over and over.
NOW THANKS TO NEOPRONOUNS, YOU HAVE ANOTHER OPTION FOR THINGS THAT START WITH THE LETTER "X"!!
Just point and your local xe/xer friend and go, 🎶"X stats for xer! A friendly friend of fun! They will teach you about their favorite planets, stars, moons, and suns!"🎶
