I don't need you to mourn with us. You clearly don't view those lost as part of your community, so why would you mourn?
And I don't need you to comfort us. You've shown time and time again that you do not care for our pain, so why would I expect you to start now?
But I do need you to not celebrate our grief - to not treat our pain like a victory.
Because nothing has been gained here. Palestine has not moved closer to freedom. It has not gained ground, or resources, or allies. This does not move us closer to the end of the war, and if anything it strengthens Israel's resolve to continue fighting because the alternative is death.
So if you are celebrating, the only thing you are celebrating is death, and grief. And if you think that's worthy of celebrating, then I think you need to really think about if that's the sort of person you want to be.

I don't really know what to say. This morning I got the news that six of the hostages were found dead, recently shot. I know the family of one of them, and they are the bravest and most resilient people I know. They gave me, and, well, everyone hope that their son would be back. I fully believed he would. Everyone did. I guess we just expected him to turn up one day at synagogue after all this time.
There are a few thoughts going through my head right now. Most of them start with the word "why", like,
Why did a 23 year old spend 11 out of the 12 months of his 23rd year in a tunnel?
Why do baby-murdering, hostage-taking, house-burning militias live two hours away from my house?
and
Why do I, an 18 year old, fresh out of highschool, know three dead people, ranging in ages from 19 to 32?
Some of them start with the words "what", like
What are they going to do now?
What awful, awful heartbreak am I going to hear about next?
and
What the fuck?

Waking up to see the news that Hersh and five others were murdered. They were alive just days ago. They survived for this long, only for lives to be cut short by the bullets of Hamas.
They were in Rafah. Where everyone said not to go, that's where they were. To everyone who said don't go into Rafah, their blood is on your hands.

An Israeli source said three of the six hostages whose bodies were recovered from Gaza were supposed to be released in the first stage of the hostage release/cease-fire deal currently being negotiated. "They appeared in the lists given over at the beginning of July. It was possible to bring them back alive," the source said. According to the proposed deal for the release of the hostages that has been discussed recently, Hersh Goldberg-Polin, Eden Yerushalmi and Carmel Gat were supposed to be released in the first stage of the deal ( source: haaretz )
I've been crying since the news broke but knowing that three of them were supposed to come home just feels even crueler. The truth is none of them should have even been away from home. the past 11 months have been nothing but pain, fear and grief.
may their memory be a blessing

Who are the hostages still held by Hamas?
On October 7, 2023, 253 Israelis and foreign nationals were kidnapped to Gaza by Hamas and gazan civilians. Since then, 105 were released in a prisioner exchange deal, 4 were released by Hamas and 3 were rescued.
However, 60 remain in captivity [as of 02/09/24] (4 of those were kidnapped prior to 2023). A recent investigation has concluded that more than a fifth of the hostages are dead and the fate of some other hostages remains unknown. This video explains how doctors determine which hostages are dead, based on the nature of their injury and by analyising footage and the victims' last phone calls. Additionally, during the operation in Gaza, the IDF has recovered the bodies of a few victims and returned to their families for burial.
Since I couldn't find this all in one place, I've compiled a list of: 1) hostages who are presumed alive; 2) hostaged whose death has been reported/confirmed; 3) hostages who were released or rescued. In the group of hostages presumed to be alive who haven't been released, the youngest is 1-year-old Kfir Bibas and the oldest hostage is Iraqi-born 85-year old Shlomo Mansour.
As we learn more information, I'll continue to update this post.
They need to come back home. I'm hoping for more successful rescue operations soon. Keep them in your thoughts.

Heartbreaking: Sebastian (28), survived the Hamas terrorist massacre at the Nova Festival in southern Israel. He was a friend of Almog Sarusi, who was brutally murdered by Hamas terrorists in Gaza and whose body was later recovered in an IDF mission. Today, his father Adrian Marcelo Podzamczer (57, middle) a forklift operator at the Allenby Crossing between Jordan and Israel, was murdered in a terrorist attack when a Jordanian terrorist began open firing. May his memory forever be a blessing. 🕯️
Adrian is the 3rd victim of yesterday's terror attack that took the lives of 3 people.

Hi! What's your opinion on Hersh Goldberg-Polin, Eden Yerushalmi, Carmel Gat, Alex Lubnov, Ori Danino and Almog Sarusi?
it's sad that the IOF killed them. remember when they hunted down and killed those other israeli hostages who were waving white flags, because they had thought they were palestinian? or how they fired tank rounds into israelis' houses, and had attack helicopters fire indiscriminately into crowds of israelis, in order to kill any palestinians among them? it really exposes how obviously false the claims their genocide is carried out to save hostages, or in self defense, are, when they clearly just try to exterminate palestinians at any expense.

Six people. They were someone's child. Someone's parent. Someone's sibling. Someone's friend. Six entire lives with their dreams, and their accomplishments, and their shortcomings, and their frustrations, and their beauty and their pain. Six souls that survived Hamas captivity for over 300 days after being taken from the safety of their homes and the Nova party, by a genocidal terrorist organization. Six marks of Cain on Binyamin Netanyahu who put the nails in their coffins. Six new bleeding wounds in our hearts. Eden Yerushalmi, Hersh Goldberg-Polin, Carmel Gat, Alexander Lobanov, Almog Sarusi, and Ori Danino. Forgive us for abandoning you.
PSA to all you pro-Palestinians coming with your numbers, justifications, and rebuttals. I don't want to hear it. This post is not the space for you.
