The mattress store I’m covering at today is the same I worked at nigh on a decade ago. I had a seven year hiatus and here I am again, like slipping back into a pair of broken in shoes.
It’s a holiday weekend and everyone was pretty busy when a new couple walked in. They were asking about a warranty since their bed is almost ten years old and is having some dipping. They wanted to know if it could be a warranty replacement.
I was telling them it was unlikely but running through options and next steps and the longer I spoke with them the more intent their attention got. Some kind of unspoken communication was passing between them.
Eventually the wife looked down at my name tag. “Is that your name?” she asked.
“Yeah,” I confirmed, laughing because it’s an unusual name, but she looked like she knew me and I’ve never ever run into another person with my name.
“And your last name?”
I told them and they both crowed triumphantly. The husband said, “I knew it! I knew it was her! She talks just the same!”
The wife was beaming and said, “You sold us our bed! Ten years ago! Your hair was much shorter but we thought we recognized you! Your name is on our receipt!”
I was floored. To be working here on this day to help out a couple I’d helped ten years ago find their next bed was just a wild full circle moment.

Another highlight of my very busy day was an awesome older dyke who locked eyes with me when she came in and it was a gravitational pull between us, two queer people in the showroom full of straight folks.
She was so sweet and so nice and was patient as I ran around between multiple groups. When things calmed down she asked to see pillows and I was like, “You want it to keep your neck nice and straight,” and the second I said it our mutual gayness vibrated and I was compelled to add, “but not that straight”
She burst into laughter, “I knew you were gonna say it!”
“I never get to make that joke! But I knew I wanted to help you the second you walked in.”
“What are you saying, I look like an old dyke?”
“What else do you think you look like?” I laughed, gesturing to her short cropped hair, her sweater vest flannel combo, her comfy sneakers, her posture.
She laughed even harder. She found a great bed and hugged me at the end, thanking me profusely. A highlight even on a day where I got to help the same couple ten years later.

Back in 2013, I posted a Welcome to Night Vale fic and someone commented, “I’m autistic and I see myself a lot in the way you write Carlos. Did you intend for him to autistic?”
And I was like “I’m flattered you think so! No, he’s not intended to be autistic, but I’m glad you can see yourself in him.”
Now twelve years later I spent some time this evening trying to track down that comment to give a very belated clarification. Whoever you were stranger, hey. I only said no because I based Carlos heavily on me, and since I wasn’t autistic, Carlos wouldn’t be either. Well. I’ve learned some stuff in the intervening decade that strongly support your literary analysis.

Tonight House Republicans voted 217 to 215 for a budget that'll take $1 TRILLION dollars from Medicaid, attack food benefits for kids, hurt seniors and vets.
but I don't want to talk about that, I want to talk about these two Democratic members of Congress you've never ever heard of.
Democrats, Congressman Kevin Mullin of California and Congresswoman Brittany Pettersen of Colorado.
Congressman Mullin had knee surgery that didn't go well, two surgeries, a life threatening blood clot and a week long stay in the hospital, and the moment he was discharged from the hospital he got on a five hour flight to DC to vote against the Republicans evil budget, using a walker to get to the floor of the House
Congresswoman Pettersen gave birth to her son Sam, in the picture, exactly one month ago on January 25th. They flew from Colorado to DC after Republicans refused to allow her to vote by proxy after having a baby. Congresswoman Pettersen took Sam onto the floor of the House to vote to protect the Health care of 400,000 Colorado kids.
why talk about this? because so much of the conversion is about telling people there's no one good, no one worthy, no one fighting. I promise you there are people undergoing personal hardship to do the right thing.

when everything feels shitty i do the one thing i got i share my comics freely. last time i did it was during the early days of covid and since this is what i do best it's my way of trying to help people escape a bit. so here, download link to pdfs of all of sunstone so far, and some other comics free to download and free to read. mind you if the download doesn't work it may be a bandwidth limit reached for the day, it does reset tho! now for the content warning, some of the comics deal with sexual themes and are mature stories about absolute dumbasses mature ones are sunstone and fine print. the bothers are more of an all ages adventure/action/fairy tale type stories so anyways, here's the dropbox link. enjoy! https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fo/jilb2yvr7ddnopszc4yzg/AI9--WPBRjDerfDAicKcEgg?rlkey=5la1ct097kbn49ho3omi5kojv&st=2guul07f&dl=0

my favorite coworker told me the scenario she thinks of to fall asleep is she stumbles upon a baby sheep and has to raise it and it grows up and she has to shear it and she says she envisions shearing it so carefully that she always falls asleep at that part

so my dad does dumb things and gets hurt a lot and when i was little he cracked his head open. apparently not the first time it had happened to him either. but anyway it was bad. i didn’t understand how bad it was as a kid but like he had to walk down the street to get home and you could see his path in blood. anyway i’m telling you this because after he got out of the hospital his way of reassuring me he was fine was buying me food and explaining that adult men have too much blood anyway, women don’t have this problem because they have a menstrual cycle but with men it just builds up and there’s no way for the old blood to get out and it causes problems like stupidity, so therefore it’s actually beneficial to men’s health for them to experience catastrophic blood loss every once and a while and it really ought to happen to every man now and again. as a little girl with a milkshake i had no reason to question this. it added up
I like his answer and we're sticking to it.

"average cat owner spends 3 years in prison" factoid actualy just statistical error. average owner spends 0 years in prison. Miette's mother, who kicked her body like the football and went to jail for One Thousand Years is an outlier adn should not have been counted
