bug's summer fic fest ♡

Gareth picks you up from the mall at six o’clock sharp.

You say goodbye to your friends, all of them wearing the same tank top and pleated skirt duo you’re in, before getting into the passenger seat of his pick-up truck. You’re dressed too nicely to be sat in such a beaten-up thing. Too pretty for it, too.

“Wanna get something to eat?” the boy asks as he pulls out of the parking lot, talking over the Dio song blaring on the radio.

He’s wearing his usual flannel vest over a tattered Metallica tee. The former is riddled with various vintage pins fitting for a metalhead. Down to his skull necklace, ripped jeans, and dirty sneakers — the two of you couldn’t be more different.

You flip down the visor and use the mirror to put on a swipe of glittery lipgloss. You feel almost naked without it. “Slurpees?” you offer before smacking your mouth to spread the sparkly glaze.

“That’s so not dinner,” Gareth laughs as he shakes his sandy curls. 

You arch a manicured brow in his direction. “Got a better idea?”

“Nope,” he concedes, popping the ‘p.’

He’s got too much of a soft spot for you to deny you of anything. Perks of being the youngest sibling, you suppose.

You feel butterflies fluttering like crazy in your stomach, their wings brushing the edges of your ribcage as he pulls into the gas station — and it’s not because of the $1 Slurpees. Your stepbrother’s best friend, Eddie Munson, usually deals drugs in the back parking lot on weekends. Like the absolute dreamboat he is. 

It’s been days since you last saw him. Six of them, to be exact, but it’s not like you’re counting or anything.

While Gareth waits in line to pay for your drink and his food, you decide to quell your yearning. It’s much more like a hunger, though. Whatever innocent crush you used to have is far more salient now. You miss Eddie like a dinner you didn’t get to eat — noticeably empty, weakened without his smile to bring you back to life.

You round the corner to the back lot and find him flipping through a wad of cash. He leans against the brick wall with one dirty sneaker kicked up against it. Despite the middle of summer head, he hasn’t yet forgone his leather jacket and dark denim jeans duo. He looks killer, as usual — so you could only imagine how he’d look out of them.

When he hears the sound of footsteps scuffing against pavement, he looks at you from the corner of his eye. His gaze is halfway hidden beneath his fluffy bangs before he turns to face you wholly. 

He grins at the sight of you, and you fill whole again.

“Hi, Teddy,” you greet with a smile, stained blue from your raspberry Slurpee.

He rises on both feet and tucks the money into the back pocket of his baggy jeans. His head tilts to his shoulder as he looks at you, too cute for his own good. “Whatcha doin’ out here, princess?”

Your stomach flutters at the nickname you’ve heard too many times to count. 

“Came to see you,” you shrug innocently, curling your smile around the straw of your drink.

Eddie beams, brows raising in amusement and cheeks reddening at your answer. He hopes you’re too far away to see his cheeks glowing as pink as they are now. He’d just blame it on the summer heat, anyway. 

“Really?” he lilts, voice light and airy with mirth.

You shrug as you swallow down the fruity slushy. “Gareth brought me for Slurpees.”

“How sweet.”

“Right?” you hum with a blue-tinted smirk, slowing when you finally reach the boy. His weed-tinged, woody musk envelopes you completely — he might as well be embracing you. “Best brother ever.”

Gareth isn’t really your brother, despite how often you call him that. You’re related by marriage, not by blood. You’ve known him your entire life, though, so you figure you might as well be.

Eddie knows this, so he smiles and takes a rather dramatic step back from you. “And that is exactly why I have to stay approximately three feet away from you at all times, princess.”

“Why’s that?” you squint at him.

When you take another step closer, he takes two more back.

“‘Cause he’s been threatening to beat my ass about dating you since we were thirteen.”

A smile quirks the right side of your lips. “Well, what he doesn’t know won’t hurt him,” you lilt.

Eddie’s brows raise at the mischievous inflection in your words. This time when you step towards him, he stays in place. “You’d really do that to him? To the ‘best brother ever?’”

You take another daring step towards him. Your chin tilts up to look at him in your ever-shortening proximity. “I’ve done far worse things than think his best friend is hot, Teddy.”

“Yeah?” the boy coos, chocolate eyes dancing with amusement as his chin dips to his chest to peer down at you. He makes the mistake of looking lower — at your breasts in your pretty little tank top and the silver of your stomach showing beneath the hem. He wants so desperately to hold you, despite everything that tells him he shouldn’t. His best friend, namely.

“And what’s that, princess?” the boy croons to you.

“I don’t kiss and tell,” you blink innocently up at him, then shrug. “Sorry.”

Eddie knows he shouldn’t be jealous, but he is. 

You’re not his, but god, you were so good at making him feel like you were. You were around so often, always so sweet in your way — sometimes, it felt like you really did belong to him. The thought of his girl with someone else makes him feel like puking.

Jealousy radiates from him like steam, palpable enough for you to feel. 

You grin.

“Don’t worry, Teddy,” you singsong, taking another goddamn step closer. Eddie knows he should be taking a thousand more backward, but your chest brushes his torso and he forgets how to walk. “I only have eyes for you.”

The boy swallows through a tightening throat. He nods for a moment, trying to work up the courage to use his voice. He’s scared that it’ll break, and he’ll lose all cool points with you. And he’s the rockstar, the older brother’s best friend — he can’t possibly have that.

“Good to know,” Eddie finally nods.

“Don’t keep me waiting too long, though. Might have to find some other metalhead to give me attention.”

Your smile widens when his jaw clenches, honeyed glaze hardening at the thought of you finding someone else. Your heart flutters when you realize that he sees you as his. He’s already been yours for a long, long time.

Gareth calls your name from a distance, muffled and far away. It’s nearly inaudible, but it knocks Eddie from his stupor all the same. “You should go, princess.” 

“My parents usually go to bed around nine. Gareth’s usually sucking in the ceiling by eleven,” you maunder suddenly, wide eyes sparkling with roguishness. “If you park your van a few houses down around midnight, no one will be the wiser…”

“You want me to sneak into your bedroom?” Eddie laughs softly to himself. He hasn’t done that since he was sixteen. He thought he was over chasing girls like that. Turns out, he wasn’t really. Not when it came to you, at least.

“Uh-huh,” you hum with a firm nod, lips wrapping around the red straw of your slushy right after.

“And what’s in it for me, huh?”

Truth be told, Eddie couldn’t give a shit. He already knows he’ll be at your house at 12 o’clock sharp, climbing up your trellis like some kind of offbeat Spiderman. He just wants to hear you tell him something, anything — a wish for him to go on for the next several hours while he’s stuck dealing in the heat, thinking about you.

You don’t answer him with words.

You rise on the tips of your toes, holding onto your Slurpee with one hand and using your free one to cup his cheek. You usher the boy softly towards you as you press your mouth to his. And it’s not the most heated kiss in the world or anything — just a languid, honeyed thing that makes your lips lock like they were made to do it.

Eddie’s idling hands rise to your waist. His ringed fingers squeeze the bare skin of your sides as he sighs against your mouth. You taste cold and sweet — like blue raspberry and ice and lipgloss — his savior in this heat. The tip of his nose smushes against the side of yours, desperate to melt with you entirely. He thinks it might be close to possible, having you so close in the sweltering summer evening.

He’s breathless when you pull away from him.

“More of that,” you answer through labored breaths. “And maybe a little extra, if you’re good.”

Eddie doesn’t bother denying his want for you anymore. Fuck it, he’ll just fight his best friend. He can take a punch if he has to, but he’s not sure Gareth could even throw one — especially not at the boy he’s known for practically half his life.

“Your bedroom’s the last window on the light, right?” Eddie asks through rosy, kiss-bitten lips.

“Yeah,” you grin, backing slowly away from him. “I’ll leave my light on.”

He nods until the words catch up with him. “Okay.”

“See you then, Teddy.”

When you turn the corner for the main parking lot, Eddie can finally breathe again. 

The air is noticeably less sweet without you around.

It is a perfectly balanced blend of a mystery, intrigue, humor, sass and good old flirting. I love Ilya in all his repressed, stoic, awkward vulnerability. He is a 6.5 teddy that needs squishing.

I looooove it tooooo. Maybe a bit too much lol. Just love how light it is but the characters are just all strong they carry the whole thing. Especially Ilya and I'm not being biased lol...... but yeah. Hammer-Cavill-Debicki-Vikander is just a brutal overkill. hot people fest. bisexual dream.

I’m pretty sure I’ve talked ab this, but TMFU was my gateway drug to Armie lmao. Went to the cinema one day with my family, brain completely off, just following the tradition of watching whatever was showing every weekend. We picked TMFU without much thought. I remember googling him on the way to the basement to get to our car. Remember saying out loud "Guys, the Russian's name is...Armie..Hammer? what......... um and he's not even Russian- he's American, and he's married?"

How does an exchange fest work? Keep reading 👇👇👇

To participate you need to fill out basic info like your username and email address. We will ask you for 2-5 pairings you want in your gift and if you want podfic, art, and/or fic. You’ll list likes, squicks and maybe ideas for prompts. All ships (or no ship at all) are welcome!

Then you will be matched you together based on your preferences, and it will be anonymous. If for some reason your match doesn’t work for you, you can contact us to switch it up. Please note that it won’t be perfect, but we will do all we can to make it a good time!

We will create an AO3 collection where you will submit your creation anonymously and we will have instructions for how to do this.

We will space out posting works. How many works a day gets posted depends on participation. There will be a reveal at the end!

Basics:

All participants must be over 18. No exception!

Respect the rules KINKTOMATO (Your Kink Is Not My Kink and That´s Okay), DLDR (Don´t Like, Don´t Read) and SALS (Ship and Let Ship). Putting it simply - If you don´t have anything nice to say, don´t say anything. 

No allowance for bigotry. We do not support JKR / TERFs or any form of oppression here.

This is a gift exchange type of fest - we´ll do our best to pair you with the best match based on this form. If you don´t like your match for whatever reason, we´ll switch it, no questions asked.

"Halloween Theme Park" Pt. 2 Wolverine and Deadpool

SORRY I GOT REALLY LOST IN THE SPOOKY SAUCE THIS YEAR. THIS IS LATE. I'M TRYING. We're going to do a series of asks based on the same prompt of going to a theme park that does horror mazes in halloween (see: HHN at Universal Studio, Knotts Scary Farm, Fright Fest at Six Flags, etc). We've done the scarecrows and I'm switching up the order. It's going to be these guys and then Rogues Party! (hopefully on time for halloween if it's not i'm sorry)

Wolverine

You do need to convince him to go, partly because this man has PTSD and he's worried about his reactions. It ends up not being an issue, he's able to keep his cool around civilians dressed up. He might tense at moments, but it's relatively minor. A touch from you on his arm and he relaxes.

He is the guy who says "I'll protect you, babe" and means it. If it's just a scare actor getting too close, he just holds you and sort of puffs up so you know you're safe. Gives them a smart-ass response if they try to banter. If it's actually a rude guest or someone drunk bumping into you, he's growling, showing those sharp canines and telling them to fuck off. Just uhhhhh be careful because he'll literally fist fight for you too which might get you kicked out :/

Everything is too expensive and he's only buying this ONE THING because you were making starry eyes at it. You probably are saying you don't even need it and he's pulling out his wallet and hard cash for it. Mentally it's to make up for the fact he's going to the designated smoking area at least once in the night even if you don't partake. Helps him shake off all the weird smells of the park.

He's kind of indifferent to most mazes? He's... genuinely sort of seen everything in terms of monsters, aliens and mutants. If anything, he'd be impressed if there was a maze with something he HASN'T seen. As for things he doesn't like... Clowns. He's not scared of them, he just dislikes their smug foolishness. And there's always one that takes the joke a touch too far. In terms of fear or triggering, he really does not like anything that's tight spaces with sudden loud sounds such as, say, a WWII trenches theme.

Deadpool

You do not need to convince him to go, even if his PTSD could be a potential problem. Not because he'd do anything but certain themes or mazes could trigger him to panic a little. Will he deal with this? No! No, we combat everything with humor here, it's fine. As long as it's not a major event, there's nothing to worry about.

He will also say "I'll protect you babe" but the moment something or someone gets him good, he's jumping into your arms like Scooby does for Shaggy. If there was real danger, of course he'd protect you. This, though? Nah, he's a damsel, let him comically hide behind you with all that beef.

Other than that he banters with the scare actors. SO much joking around. And the cheesiest jokes! He sees anyone kind of body horror and fucked up and he greets them like a long-lost cousin for the bit. If he can get you to join in on the banter, that makes it even better. The scare actors that are off to the side areas, starving for interaction? He gives them everything they want and more.

He buys stupid merch. Not only does he buy stupid merch, if there's carnival games where you can win stuff at this park? Babe, pick what you want, he's got this. You are taking home at least one stupid gigantic plush that you can hardly hold. Wade is just really good at that sort of thing and likes to spoil you. Hard to get scared when you have a dracula teddy bear to squeeze!

Themes Wade really likes: Aliens, ones with the fake guns you get points on, vampires, magic- He's pretty open-minded. Themes Wade hates and potentially are Actually Upsetting for him: Storylines where a character has DID for multiple reasons, unreality (he has enough of that on his own, thank you), Military PARTICULARLY MILITARY EXPERIMENTS/TORTURE.

6.17.2024: The Big Snooze

On June 17th, 2024, something odd began to happen.

The newest SPECTRE hench, who had been fetching coffee, returned to find the entire organization asleep, many clutching guns and knives like teddy bears. 

(Carefully disarming people was the hench’s official first task after the coffee. The second was setting up an automatic feeder for the sharks with laser beams attached to their heads.)   

Attempts to make contact with other crime organizations (the Unione Corse, SMERSH, SHAPE, DARE) proved largely fruitless. Even hitter.com, the villainous social network, had dwindled to about three active hitter threats about the situation. 

Meanwhile, the latest Q Branch intern, who had been fetching more C4, almost dropped their plastique when they returned to find the entire branch kipping on desks and work cots. They ran to find help and soon discovered the entire MI6 population, including administrative staff, off-duty workers, and even 00 agents, all in the same position: asleep. Safe, but asleep. 

Asleep at work, asleep in their beds, and in some cases asleep in someone else’s bed. 

Attempts to make contact across the pond revealed that the only person available to answer the big red emergency phone was a harried janitorial worker. Casebook.com, the intelligence agent networking site, showed timelines that had gone silent.        

(Other parts of the government ran as usual, and in fact the number of, e.g., overturned tomato carts due to marketplace chases immediately declined.) 

Across the globe, the story was the same: intelligence agents, villains, and support staff had begun to feel sleepy…then decided to take a nap…then could not be roused. No major or minor player on the active duty rosters was excluded. 

Retired medical staff who hadn’t yet left Britain for the warmer climes of their choice came in and confirmed that everyone’s vital signs were normal aside from being unable to wake. 

In the aftermath, a ragtag group of people came together at two stations across the globe, Station Atlantic and Station Pacific. Their mission: to try to 1) prevent global catastrophes, and 2) solve the mystery of the sleeping spies.

There is a brief lull as everyone adjusts to the new state of affairs, but remaining experts (octogenarian Nelly, who has sixty years of experience and can feel these things in her bones) suggest that the two stations will face their first challenge starting on July 1st. 

How successful will these stations be?

🔸 Terminal Lucidity by @romaine2424 (Drarry, HD Career Fair, rated G, 3K) This bittersweet fic has Harry putting his abilities as Master of Death to good use by comforting those close to death themselves. We see him at work here, adeptly easing the way for someone dear to him with compassion and care. I found this story incredibly moving and a beautiful portrait of family ties in the face of an impending loss. Featuring older, established Drarry and the Black-Malfoy family.

🔹 Our Objective Remains Unchanged by @citrusses (Drarry, rated E, 46K) Gorgeously and vividly written, this university rowing AU drew me in right from the get-go, despite the fact that Muggle AUs are not my typical cuppa. The enemies-to-lovers tension is perfectly paced as Harry and Draco fight for the same spot on the Oxford team. Citrusses did a fantastic job translating their backgrounds and personalities (as well as those of other familiar characters from the books) into this world. Class divisions and the pressure of a highly-public sporting event stand in very effectively for Harry’s canon experiences. All in all, the story has the poignancy and drama of a lush coming of age film, and I can’t recommend it highly enough!

🔸 The Pile by @b-vul (Drarry, not rated, about 1.5K) This hilarious ficlet was born out of littlewinnow’s tumblr post about Veela!Harry performing an intricate mating dance to impress Draco. Delightfully, it’s from Harry’s POV as he blindly “trusts his instincts” to guide him into increasingly bizarre actions. And the evolution of Draco’s reaction is pure comedy gold. I’ve come back to reread this one a couple of times, and it never fails to have me in stitches. (The tumblr thread also contains adorable art by regretfulcorrine!)

🔹 Shine on, You Crazy Diamond by @lagerloutfic (Drarry, HD Mpreg Fest, rated E, 42K) This is one of those fics that you can’t stop reading once you start (something I confirmed this morning when I went to skim through it for this rec and wound up spending a few happy hours devouring the entire thing again). It’s laugh-out-loud funny and deliciously smutty, with a full cast of delightful side characters and just the right amount of feelings. The story begins with the discovery of Draco’s surprise pregnancy, then switches to a long flashback of Harry’s gay awakening and his fast sexual/slow emotional burn relationship with Draco. The entire fic has a joyful feel—banter-filled pub nights, chaotic family dinners, audacious curse breaking—culminating in the baby’s arrival, which left me in happy tears and wishing for another 40K of this fabulous story. Featuring confident Harry, supportive friends & family, hot Charlie, and some shamelessly kinky Unspeakables.

🔸 Silhouettes by @sweet-s0rr0w (Draco/Ron/Harry, Dronarry Fest, rated E, 16K) Draco/Ron/Harry is not a ship I’d ventured into before I read this fic, but I’m so glad I did! Sweet’s writing always hits the right spot in my brain, and her alternating POVs and spot-on characterizations of all three boys are delightful. I especially loved Ron’s sexy self-assurance here. The unique magical theory around sentient houses is fascinating and ultimately poignant, once Draco gets to the root cause of the Burrow’s behavior. Sweet-sorrow surely lived up to her username with this one, weaving grief with humor and a heartwarming resolution.

🔹 Harry Potter Gets a Job (A 106-Page Comic) by dustmouth (Drarry, HD Career Fair, rated M) Dustmouth’s comics never miss, I swear! In this one, we find Harry overcoming his distrust of Draco with the help of the Weasleys, especially Ron (who is definitely up to something himself). All of my favorite Dustmouth elements are here: the expressive characters, Draco’s wild wardrobe choices, and punchy dialogue galore. Also featuring drunken shenanigans at the Burrow, adorable Teddy, and some first-class Slytherin-ing by Draco to win his man (and find Harry that job). What a treat!

🔸 the earth from a distance by spqr (Drarry, rated E, 15K) A whirlwind time-travel fic with breezy humor, bedsharing, and spqr’s unmatched smut with feelings… What more could you ask for in a fic? Oh, yeah: fantastic worldbuilding for Hogwarts in 1599, brilliantly clever Draco, and a dash of enemies to lovers. I can never get enough of this author!

🔹 A Year In The Life by @ladderofyears (Drarry, HD Career Fair, rated M, 19K) I swear, the author conjured a little bit of magic to write this story. It’s told entirely with 50-word microfics, one journal entry for each day of 2006 (an impressive feat, by itself!), and yet it reads just as smoothly as any traditional fic. Draco’s voice is perfect here, full of wit and subtle emotion, as his and Harry’s developing romance takes a sharp turn with an unexpected pregnancy.  Draco’s anticipation, worry, and joy are mixed with deftly-chosen details of his daily life, all captured with Emma’s trademark tenderness and warmth. This fic is a perfect comfort read for family feels and gentle romance.

🔸 try to fix you by @maesterchill (Harry/Ron/Hermione, HP Snooze Fest, rated M, 2K) A beautifully and tenderly written hurt/comfort fic set in the aftermath of the Battle of Hogwarts. Ron is the glue that holds the trio together here, caring for Harry and Hermione with gentle devotion. There’s no dialogue needed to tell this story, just Ron’s perceptive POV that captures the grief and love that compel him. I have a soft spot for this triad forming immediately after the war, as a way of holding onto each other and holding themselves together. Maester’s fic makes their transition from friends to lovers feel like the first step towards healing.

🔹 The Scent of Soft Rains by @dodgerkedavra (Drarry, HD Career Fair, rated E, 20K) When Harry is left housebound and isolated by a traumatic injury, magical prosthetist Draco gets called into help. But Harry’s struggles go far beyond the physical ones. This recovery fic combines magical and non-magical therapeutic treatments in a way I can’t remember reading before. The hurt/comfort is just as it should be—both heart-wrenching and soothing—but there are enough surprising revelations to keep the story from feeling predictable. Draco is wonderfully unflinching and patient, and the ending left me crying happy tears. With lovely, restrained prose and vivid magical imagery, this one’s an absolute stunner.

🔸 Connecting Lines, Connecting Crimes by @sleepstxtic (Drarry, H/D Career Fair, rated M, 15K) With its intriguing careers, fascinating magical theory, and well-researched worldbuilding, this story captured my attention immediately, and the mystery at the heart of it kept me engrossed. This was one of the more thought-provoking fics I’ve had the pleasure of reading, exploring the intersection of magic, the environment, and colonialism. Harry’s first-person POV is lovely, and it feels like we’re learning to love India and the people he meets along with him. The getting-back-together romance is gentle but satisfying, propelled by pent-up yearning that’s palpable. There’s so much to enjoy here, all in only 15K words!

🔹 Waking Up Slow by @sweet-s0rr0w and @ihopeyoubothstaysafefromharm (Drarry, H/D Wireless Fest, rated E, 22K) The first word that comes to mind while reading this fic is charming. First there’s the novel setting: a Christmas shop in the tourist destination of Cheddar Gorge, in the middle of a July heatwave. Next, there’s the shop itself, so imaginatively described and full to the brim with clever Muggle and magical details. Then there are the delightful OCs, Draco’s seemingly unhinged enthusiasm for all things Christmas (including ridiculous jumpers), and Harry’s complete disregard for professional behavior. But underneath the playful banter and humor, there’s also a layer of poignancy to tug at the heartstrings, especially when we find out the backstories behind Harry’s and Draco’s unlikely careers. And to top it all off, like the glowing star on the tree, are Joy’s exuberant, colorful illustrations. This is a Christmas-y fic I’d reread any time of the year.

97% of what I read is Explicit and I had one too many choices for this prompt, thanks @eleadore for suggesting a winning format: a drarry, a non-drarry, a threesome (no, I’m not reccing Euphoria again - oops, just did it :D). these are my picks for today, beyond the hot sex they all share a specific brand of tenderness that has awaken new feelings for these ships in me. it’s not just about the filth, it’s about how emotional it makes me!!!

I keep mentioning this fic because it’s such a sexy and brilliant yet underrated shortfic - deliciously kinky but also soft (hah!), tentative and tender in an almost heartbreaking way. I am obsessed with the concept of soft cock fondling (!) as a coping mechanism, it’s so hot and complex. this touch-starved Harry has my entire heart and I adore how Draco is so into it and just… up for the ride :) their chemistry is amazing, the sex is incredibly hot, the sense of humour superb as always, and ah! the tenderness 🥲

a salt & pepper fic that got me incoherent with feels. pining rockstar!Teddy is a triumph and the raw, messy and desperate thing he has with Bill - balanced by the mellow, deep-set yearning shared with James - took my breath away. as a cross-gen fic master, LQT gives this ship such a distinct feel with vibrant and nuanced characterization and a beautifully crafted prose. love their imperfections, the gentle intimacy, the melancholy of knowing with certainty that you’ll always want someone as you watch the years go. love how Teddy comes alive through his passions, his relationship with music and sexuality. a gorgeous coming-of-age love song that will tug at your heartstrings. and married Drarry as a treat!

another underrated gem, this one is on my top 3 Dronarry fics of all time and it made me feel for Dron in new, unexpected ways. I was surprised to see them getting together first, and was NOT prepared for the amount of tenderness, trust and understanding they shared in a casual hookup. all characters are beautifully portrayed: a charming and mysterious Ron, a smitten scheming Harry, a generous Draco who likes to be in the middle (who wouldn’t 🥵). honestly, they are a perfect match. this fic is fun and hot but also achingly romantic - it has a wistful tone I can’t get enough of, and a refreshing poly dynamic that hits just right.
