I am back! Here to hand you the last (</3) chapter of this prequel fic I've loved so much. Fear not, there will be more Radius & Luna or DivorcedLovers in the future. I a deeply sorry to have kept you waiting for so long, but work has been and still is incredibly challenging this year, and I've only now found the right time, headspace and inspiration to run my fingers on the keyboard and type the last chapter. I thank you all for reading and following me on this journey.

y'know what we don't talk about enough? Hazel died. We talk about how she grew up in the 30's and 40's and we talk about how out of place she feels in the modern world, but! She died! She was dead! She has spent more time dead than alive, and not by a close margin!

How does that effect a person??? We got some of it in the flashbacks, but once those caught up with her present timeline and she shared them, they just kind of... disappeared. And she was a regular girl with some weird past experiences. That's one way of doing it, sure!

I think it would have been a lot cooler if she was just a touch creepier. If she felt a little bit Wrong. Yeah, in general she's more approachable than her brother, she's more sociable and less closed off, but. If you actually spend any time with her, it can be difficult to tell which child of the underworld is actually more unsettling.

Hazel is bright of personality and has a dazzling smile, but sometimes she'll just... shut down. She'll go completely blank for like half an hour and nobody knows what to do with it. Sometimes she forgets she's alive. Sometimes she'll spout the grimmest shit you've ever heard like it's nothing, she won't even notice it's weird until the room goes quiet. She spent decades in Asphodel, which is designed to make people forget about themselves and wander around for eternity, only she didn't have the luxury of forgetting! Wild! After she comes back to life, sometimes she forgets that she's allowed to Do Stuff now. She can spend so long sitting and staring at nothing. Sometimes she'll start crying on cloudless days because it hits her again that she can actually feel the warmth of the sun on her skin and she can hear birdsong. Every little mundane experience is a blessing and she will make you remember that in the most foreboding way possible.

“Good afternoon, welcome. Are you checking in?”

He steps forward to the counter, releasing his touch on Val at last. “Yes. Mitch and Valerie Anderson.”

“Yes, Mr. Anderson, I see your reservation here: four weeks in our lovely Morro suite. It is fully stocked one bedroom with full service kitchen and balcony with a water view.”

“One bedroom?” he falters; he’s certain Val told him there would be two.

“Yes, sir. Is that a problem?”

His eyes slide over to Val as the visual distortion increases and more hormones pump into his system. She squeezes his bicep as she steps up to the counter.

“I believe we had a reservation for your two bedroom suite. I adore my husband,” she says, pausing to look up at him with a sweet smile, and her touch grounds him somewhat. “But this man snores like a fleet of AVs. If I have to share a bedroom with him, I will be suing you to pay for our divorce, and for damages.”

Val’s face lights up as she laughs and he follows her lead, throwing his head back and guffawing. 

“Please, for the sake of my marriage,” he says, still chuckling as he turns back to the receptionist. “Don’t wanna test that prenup.”

Val laughs and swats him with her other hand.

“Let me see what I can do,” the receptionist says and smiles politely. She resumes typing and moments later looks up at them. “I apologize for that oversight. I do have a two bedroom suite available. There will be a slight price difference.”

Mitch waves his hand dismissively. “Whatever Valerie wants, she gets.”

She gives a laugh that he can describe as sultry as she leans into him, and he slides his organic hand down her back to her waist, pulling her tight against his side. 

“Of course, sir. We have adjusted our records. One moment please.”

A new alert pops up in the corner of his HUD, SCAN INITIATED, and it’s time for the first real test of the soft. The new deck from Vik shows the data being received by the scanner:

MITCHELL ANDERSON DOB: 2028-04-29 NATIONALITY: NUSA .... 

The data flowing from his deck matches the info packet passed on by Val and he releases the breath he’s been holding. He glances over at Val who’s watching him, and he gives her a lopsided smile and presses a kiss to her forehead. The chemicals taper off and the disorientation plateaus but he continues to focus on Val, on the feel of her against his side and the soft skin of her arm under his calloused fingertips.

“Very well, you are all checked in,” the receptionist says. “Please let us know if there is anything you require, otherwise please enjoy your stay.”

“Thank you,” Val says with a warm smile, and he nods with an awkward smile.

When the valet directs them away from the desk, Mitch finally releases his grip on Val’s waist and follows her to a bank of elevators.

Answer: The ruffles are in the shape of a vulva. And why she's bringing attention to female alpha health is because like Not All That Glitters is Gold when Steve talks about both of his parts (a dick/balls and a vulva/vagina) other alphas he's been with only focus on the "female" parts. Eddie is the first touch it for the express purpose of getting Steve off that way, omegas aren't interested much in a female alpha's "female" parts.

So the way this works in universe is that people are born with outer sex organs and are classified "male" as their first gender and those with inner sex organs are classified "female" as their first gender.

When they are in their teens (but not necessarily tied to puberty) they develop their secondary gender. For male omegas this means their inner sex organs forms and for female alphas this means their outer organs develop. For male alphas and female omega not much changes except alphas get the knot and the omegas get the super lubricant.

But only first gender and omega health classes are mandatory in high school with the prevailing thought that alphas are "knotheads" (thinking with their dick) and instinctively know their way around their ruts, because everything else about their secondary gender is similar enough to "male" anatomy that it's not taught.

So the relationship between a female alpha's inner and outer sex organs aren't really thought about much like women's health isn't in our society.

It's different for male omegas because their inner sex organs are what make them valuable and the two systems are extensively studied.

Steve's foundation is about all alpha health, but Chrissy is making a point to bring awareness to female alphas in particular because as a high paid escort she can be daring with her choice of outfit.

Some part of me wishes I had shown what a female alpha was like with Steve, but the story was already getting too long and there wasn't a place for it in the sequel. But considering as much as I love this verse, I might dip my toes back into it. Maybe with a Tommy story and his female alpha. We'll see.
