hi! I have a question about flags during active race, that maybe you (as my chosen f1 trusted, very knowledgeable tumblr to turn to). it’s ofc connected to the lando penalty, since that’s what’s stirred the discussion. but I’ve seen a lot of ppl talk about the green led-board at the end of the straight which is very visible to lando, no chance to miss it. ppl are saying “it’s clearly green why would he assume it would be yellow?” but I was under the impression that the green flag is only flown (during active race like this) to signal the *end* of danger zone, and in the from this point forward it’s green. a bit like speed signs in normal traffic, the new limit is from the signs and not from the moment you can see them.

f1 themselves say “[…] immediately after an incident that necessitated the use of one or more yellow flags.” on their website, but I’ve not seen a single person mention this anywhere, so maybe I’m the one misinterpreting this?

(also on a slightly unrelated note, it annoys me how the english-speaking commentators I’ve heard are questioning whether everyone really lifted while also saying that it’s one of the first thing they learn, like pick a side. the swedish ones were better, saying that explains why the gap shrunk so much and when the penalty was given it was very much “nothing to complain about, they’re hard when it’s yellow flags”)

Yes so you are correct. The issue here is that only a small section of the track was yellow flagged. So they used the green flag to indicate when the yellow zone is ended. It's on the driver to pay attention and see that they are in a yellow zone, and also to notice when it's ended.

The confusion I think came from the fact it was a very small section that was yellow. Which again, you gotta pay attention.

However I would say that it does kind of get at the bigger issue that just yellow flagging a small section like that for debris that clearly needed to be cleared was the original problem that obviously needed to be addressed sooner.

But yeah it was clearly yellow in the section when Lando was not lifting. That's what matters. The rest of the track was green and the flag was meant to indicate that.

It's funny to me that people think this penalty was harsh and out of the blue, no it's just been a while since a driver violated a yellow flag like that. Which this is an issue as it's not the first time Lando specifically has violated race signals this year. I have to wonder if he's ever paying attention. These things matter and both were safety concerns. Mclaren are whining about it being too harsh, no your driver just cannot pay attention and committed an infraction we haven't seen in years. Because a stop go penalty for ignoring a yellow like that is pretty standard.

In theory I get where they were coming from in terms of Kataang. On paper it sounds like a good idea - traumatized and parentified indigenous girl falls in love with the goofy symbol of peace who helps her be a child, both of them genocide survivors tasked with upholding their culture and becoming masters in their own right, the girl being the boy’s teacher. But in execution their romance was terrible and completely ignored Katara’s wants and needs. If it was well written it would’ve been a healthy ship especially for WOC. That’s why I’m hoping the live action (which I don’t think will be scrapping this romance unfortunately) does a much better job at improving their romantic relationship. Imo the best way to do that is to have less moments like the Fortuneteller and those non-con kisses obviously.

I finally took the time to photograph my vintage dip pen nib collection, and I need to share with you all how wonderful and diverse their designs are.

These two are my favorite. Just look at them! One of them is named Gorille and the other Mephisto, but to me they're little pumpkins.

And of course you gotta love the Pinocchio nib. You get to write with the nose of a tiny guy! Just not something you get to do anymore.

Probably one of the best things for me in that episode was the final card pull. Cause anyone who knows anything about tarot probably knows the death card does not actually represent death literally. It represents something coming to the end, yes, but it also represents new beginnings and moving forward. It is overall a positive card to draw upright, representing growth, transformation, and change, rather than stagnation.

And so, they don't show us Lilia's death.

Instead, we see how Lilia changes, realizing how much she cares about the coven and how much she loves being a witch, realising that these powers are a gift no matter how unruly. We see her finally accepting her fate. And they show us the new beginning, back in that garden it all started in, as she sits down with her teacher at that table, and she says

"Let's begin again."
