There’s something very Murderbot about The Fallen Angel by Cabanel…I guess because it* looks so utterly furious/unrepentant but is still leaking a bit…

*using MB’s preferred pronoun here
The full image is gorgeous too:

Everyone always talks about the anger in Cabanels ‘Fallen Angel’, but look at the shame, the way he’s hiding his anguish from the other angels
Tumblr media
It’s rage but it’s framed by regret, because he was given the ultimate punishment for the most human of sins, his pride
Tumblr media
he was gawked at and ostracized, his pride was taken and twisted, he is evil, but still i feel pain for the angel who was cast out by his god, the favorite son cast away from his father

Threw a basic cutout-filter over some famously disturbing art pieces and man...you can really tell how striking details are just through the simplified edges.
No "Saturn Devouring his Son" kids, because the first piece is already a Francisco Goya. But a cookie, a bushel and a peck for the people who can name each painting without googling!
For everyone else I'll tag the artists for those curious ;)

Here's the thing. Every now and then @breadedsinner will say something, and I will spend my entire work day thinking about it, and this is where we land.

for someone that no longer goes to church and hates that they had catholicism imposed on them since childhood, i really like religious imagery in an unorthodox manner and i think that is funny as fuck.
like hell yeah i relate to the fallen angel with daddy issues that rebelled for their free will and is the literal scapegoat of the astronomically dysfunctional family… what about it.
