Monosodium glutamate. It's used to make things more umami, like sugar or salt. It's rumoured to be 'very bad for you' for Stupid, Racist Reasons; because it's used a lot in East Asian food, because it tastes nice.

It's also in tomato sauce. And tomatoes. And cheese. Naturally.

Genuinely, I don’t know how else to get the word out, but I feel like if your home-cooked dinners don’t taste right, you're missing either paprika, sugar, butter, or chicken bouillon.

My favorite Black couples in Period Films/Series.

An anon recently asked me about my favorite Black couples in period films/series. I have a few! Some of which come along with trigger warnings and a bit of a heads up on not so happy endings. Some of these couples have happy endings, some have endings that leave you wondering, and some have beautiful relationships that ended tragically.

Happy Endings (To me anyway.)

Jackie Robinson (Chadwick Boseman) & Rachel Robinson (Nicole Beharie) in 42 (2013).

Katherine G. Johnson (Taraji P. Henson) & Colonel Jim Johnson (Mahershala Ali) in Hidden Figures (2016). 

Chicken George (Regé-Jean Page) & Matilda (Erica Tazel) in Roots (2016).

Marie Ste. Marie (Nicole Lyn) & Richard Lermontant (Jason Olive) in The Feast of All Saints (2001).  

The characters in this miniseries go through a lot. TW for SA.

Not So Happy Endings (SPOILER-ISH!!)

Rosalee (Jurnee Smollett) &  Noah (Aldis Hodge)  in Underground (2016-2017). 

Canceled on a cliffhanger.

Tish Rivers (KiKi Layne) &  Alonzo 'Fonny' Hunt (Stephan James) in If Beale Street Could Talk (2018).

The ending isn’t definite. I choose to think positively about their story.

Cora William (Thuso Mbedu) & Royal (William Jackson Harper)  in The Underground Railroad (2021). 

This story ends tragically. 

Roots: The Next Generations (1979) has generations of a few sweet relationships that I enjoy watching.

Pinches the bridge of his nose as Parker does the safety protocols for an airplane.

The struggle of being exasperated 100% of the time is real.

Forget about Eliot's grumpiness! It's all about his exasperation and annoyance.

Had The Worst interaction with my english teacher recently.

We were talking about text types in class, and she brought up blogs. So I off handedly mention "Like on Tumblr, a lot of people run blogs on there", so she asks, "Do you run a Tumblr blog, Alex?" And I don't want to lie to this lady, she controls my grades for my favourite class, so I just mutter "I run an ALDI blog". "Sorry, what was that?" Comes her response. "An ALDI blog." "So, you inform people about ALDI and how the stores run and such?" "No... I roleplay as ALDI online. It's called a corpo blog, they're under the gimmick umbrella..."

This went on for about five minutes of back-and-forth q and a IN FRONT OF MY CLASS OF BASICALLY HIGHSCHOOL FRESHMEN.

I was so ashamed. Like these people already think I'm weird, now they have evidence beyond reasonable suspicion and they happen to be year nines and also Smart Kids so they will Use It.

Tldr my English teacher now knows what a corpo blog is and I will be hiding in my bulletproof cave if anyone happens to need me

Edit, after the first episode: goddamnit it's actually pretty good. Or at least intriguing. Might have to keep watching (and also he's very pretty, as expected. And being a Good Dad which is excellent.)
