27 February 2024
Graphic designer Karam Naji reports from Al-Awda Hospital in north Gaza. He says the hospital has announced that all of operations have completely shut down. The hospital, already at severely decreased capacity, is now completely nonfunctional.

Doctors Without Borders issued a press release on November 21:
Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is horrified by the killing of two of our doctors, Dr. Mahmoud Abu Nujaila and Dr. Ahmad Al Sahar, and another doctor, Dr. Ziad Al-Tatari, following a strike on Al Awda Hospital, which is one of the last remaining functional hospitals in northern Gaza.
A fourth person was killed as well. MSF was careful to word the statement as not to blame either Israel or Hamas - but the media was not so careful.
Time magazine blamed an "Israeli bombardment." Democracy Now called it an "Israeli airstrike." AP reported, "The director of al-Awda hospital, Ahmed Mahna, blamed the strike on Israel."
The Cradle said,
On 21 November, Israel killed two MSF doctors, Mahmoud Abu Nujaila and Ahmad Al-Sahar, in an airstrike on the Al-Awda Hospital. Other medical staff, including MSF staff, were also severely injured. MSF had shared the GPS coordinates of their staff with Israeli authorities the same day.
Socialist and Arab sites all unanimously blamed Israel.
I found video footage of the damage to the hospital taken by Al Jazeera several days after the incident, The damage seen is certainly not consistent with the damage one sees from Israeli airstrikes.

Israeli tanks besieged Al-Awda hospital
Heavy fighting continues across the Gaza Strip, with battles between the Israeli military and Palestinian militants centred in Jabaliya around Al-Awda hospital in northern Gaza and Rafah in the south, Arab media reported.
Israeli airstrikes have injured and killed dozens of civilians over the past 24 hours. Nine people died in strikes on homes in Sheikh Radwan in Gaza City and Beit Lahiya in northern Gaza.
Fears are growing for the fate of Al-Awda Hospital in northern Gaza, which the Israeli tanks have surrounded earlier. Staff and patients are inside the hospital and supplies are running low. Moreover, the closure of the Rafah and Kerem Shalom crossings in Gaza has exacerbated the problem.
Meanwhile, senior US official Jake Sullivan is in Israel for meetings with officials after travelling to Saudi Arabia. Washington hopes to broker a Saudi-Israeli normalisation agreement.
After meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the White House said on Sunday that Sullivan briefed the Israeli premier on “potential” plans that may be available.
The international non-governmental organisation Doctors Without Borders (MSF) said on Monday that the Al-Awda hospital in Jabaliya in northern Gaza was in critical condition, with drinking water running out and staff overwhelmed by injured patients.

Don't stop thinking of Northern Gaza!
There are still people there! Alhelou on Instagram Live was just saying how there was a load of bombs dropped on Northern Gaza today as well as in the South. There are very few people able to share and document (if any at all) left in Northern Gaza but there are still people there
7 days ago, Middle East Eye reported that al-Awda hospital with over 250 people within its walls in Northern Gaza was under siege and only had food, water, and fuel for a few days more at most. Israeli Snipers were shooting people in the hospital through the windows. Between the snipers and the tanks surrounding the hospital, they can't refill the generator to keep electricity and they can't leave. Al-Awda has not been heard from since.
Israel blew up a UNRWA school building in Beit Hanoun in Northern Gaza on Dec 12 (video in the article)
People were being detained and stripped in the streets. I can't find any reports that say if this has stopped or if it's continuing, but Al Jazeera said there were at least 100 people detained from Dec 8 and AP News is saying at least 900 were detained and include personal accounts in their article from Dec 14
The New Arab posted today about what is described to be a detention pit in Beit Lahia in Northern Gaza near the northern branch of the University of Gaza. They also have a reporter, Diaa al-Kahlout, who was detained by Israel on Dec 7 and they haven't heard from him since or know if he's still alive.
Don't stop talking about Palestine. Keep calling your reps, keep boycotting, keep protesting, keep hoping. From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free ✊🏼🇵🇸♥️

Concerning reports coming out of north Gaza this morning
Resistance News Network claims on Telegram that the occupation supposedly allowed some women and children under the age of 14 to return to their homes in north Gaza via Rashid Street.
However, journalist Hossam Shabat says that the IOF has denounced this as completely false, advising people not to approach the area or try to return to the north, as it is still an active war zone. RNN provides photographic and video evidence, while Hossam directly cites the words of the occupation.
Journalist Anas Al-Sharif reports this on his Telegram channel as well, citing the same evidence.
Meanwhile journalist Saed Al-Zaneen reports on Telegram that some people are trying to return to their homes in the north of their own initiative. Some occupation squads *may* be allowing this in certain areas, but it is not sanctioned by IOF leadership and could change at any time. He warns that the troops may suddenly attack the people trying to return, and that the occupation is not to be trusted.
We will continue monitoring the situation, but advise our followers not to spread word of any return of displaced people to the north right now, at least until circumstances are much more clear
UPDATE AT TIME OF PUBLISHING: Hossam Shabat reports occupation vehicles are now advancing on Al-Rashid Street in Gaza City. Saed Al-Zaneen reports this as well. He now also reports one martyr and one wounded person have arrived at Al-Awda Hospital in north Gaza after they tried to return to the north via Al-Rashid Street. He reports they are being attacked from helicopters and provides documentation. Resistance News Network reports this as well. Journalist Momin Abu Owda also documents this Journalist Ismail Al-Ghoul is at Al-Nabulsi Roundabout on Al-Rashid Street and reports no sign of people being able to return.
The situation is obviously in flux. I need to go to bed, but I will review the situation when I wake up. Please follow the cited sources and use a translation software as needed.
