Juniper had been looking forward to this date for months, especially since the carnival only came around once a year. This was supposed to be one of the less busy days, since it was much colder out than it would be the rest of the week, so it was perfect. Juniper and Ainosuke wouldn't have to worry about all of the long lines! Despite Juniper's defiance, Ainosuke had insisted on paying for the tickets and the food.. and the games, and the rides, and- well, you get the point. So now, here the couple walked together, having just entered the carnival. They had gone a little later in the day, to catch all the pretty lights from the rides.

"Ooo we should go to the rides first! Or maybe the games? Let's save food for last, so we don't get sick on the rides!" Juniper smiled brightly, beyond excited. He was bundled up in warm clothes, as was his husband. The two held hands as they walked through the carnival, and then Ainosuke saw something he was very excited for. "Juni, my love, look, the ferris wheel is up and running this year.." He smiled softly, remembering the events of the year before. The ferris wheel, the carnival's greatest attraction, had malfunctioned and had to be shut down at the beginning of the week. Lots of profits were lost due to this, and it seemed that they were making up for it this year. The ferris wheel looked to be a new one, all decorated with pretty lights that could be seen from a mile away. It truly was a sight for sore eyes.

Juniper looked towards the ferris wheel and gave a soft, nervous laugh. "It's pretty.." He spoke softly, and then swiftly tried to change the subject. "Hey, look, there's horses!"

Ainosuke laughed softly and squeezed his husband's hand lightly to get his attention. "Juni, are you afraid of the ferris wheel..?" He inquired, an amused look on his face. Juniper flinched, looking like a puppy who had just been caught doing something he shouldn't be doing. The shorter man slowly turned back to look at his dear Ainosuke, and he smiled and laughed nervously. "Noo... Why would I be afraid of that? Why don't we go see the horses?" He pulled Ainosuke along.

"My dear, I would love to see the horses with you, but your avoidance is only making me more curious. Why don't you want to go on the ferris wheel..?" Ainosuke tilted his head as he followed Juniper towards the horses, watching his partner's expression closely. Juniper sighed heavily and glanced away for a moment, stopping. "I um.. I'm afraid of heights.." He muttered as his face flushed a soft red. Ainosuke blinked a few times as he processed this information, and then he began to laugh, a joyful and warm laugh that only caused Juniper's cheeks to heat up even more. "Don't laugh at me!"

"Pfft.. Honey, I'm not laughing at you.. It's just.. I never took you for the type to be afraid of heights. It surprised me, that's all.." Ainosuke chuckled and smiled at the other, facing him and leaning in to kiss his forehead. "Why don't you try facing your fears? It's a brand new ferris wheel this year, so I'm sure it won't malfunction like last year. Besides, wouldn't it be romantic..? The two of us, all the way up there, nobody else around..?" He spoke softly, cupping Juniper's face in his hands. Juniper nuzzled into his hands slightly, sighing in defeat.

"I hate it when you're right.."

"I know.. ^^"

So, with that, the couple headed towards the ferris wheel. It seemed like a few others had the same idea, but it was fine, since Ainosuke and Juniper would be getting their own little loveseat. Juniper was trembling when he climbed into the seat with Ainosuke, and even more when they were settled in and secured. "Is it too late to back out..? Ainosuke, this is really scary, I don't know about this.." He whimpered softly in fear, eyes darting around a bit. Ainosuke held his lover's hand and kissed the top of it gently to help soothe him. "You're alright, my love... It'll be a beautiful time, don't you worry one bit.. I'm right here, okay..?" The reassurances gave Juniper enough peace of mind to take a few deep breaths and calm down. By the time the ferris wheel began moving at a steady pace, he had calmed down enough to admire the scenery. He scooted closer to his husband, leaning on him and sighing, this time a sigh of contentment.

"I guess you're right.. This is still fuckin terrifying but it's a lot less terrifying when I have you by my side.. I feel fearless when I'm with you, Ai.." Juniper spoke, his words soft and sincere. That familiar blush had risen to his face once more.

Ainosuke smiled sweetly and wrapped an arm around the other man. "That fearlessness is all you, my dear.. I'm simply a stepping stone to help guide the way.. And I'm glad to be as much.."

"A stepping stone..? More like the whole foundation.. I'd be nothing without you.." Juniper muttered softly, looking away. He had always felt like he was only himself because of Ainosuke. Like he would have no sense of self if they'd never met.

Ainosuke frowned, tenderly grabbing ahold of Juniper's chin so he could turn his head to look at him. "Juniper.. Look at me... You are as bright as the brightest star, don't you see that..? It is not because of me that you are fearless. It is because of your own efforts, and your own strength.. I am here to offer motivation, but you did this, you made it this far. You're a strong and respectable man, and I admire you for who you are, wholly through and through. Not just for who you became with my help." His words were sincere and firm, hoping to plant the seeds of growth in his lover's heart.

Juniper let out a shaky sigh and kissed the palm of Ainosuke's hand. "I wish I could see myself through your eyes.. Maybe then, I would know just what's so special about me."

"I can't force you to see what I see.. But I can try to open your eyes to see yourself the way I do. All good things take time, and each small step is a step closer to your destination. Do not lose yourself because of your fear.. You came so far without me, and you would have continued if we hadn't met.. I hope I can make you see that some day.." Ainosuke responded, his tone holding a solemn note to it. He pecked Juniper's lips and smiled warmly at him. "Don't lose yourself in your head.. It's scary enough in this world without being caught up in your mind.."

Juniper nuzzled against the taller man, leaning against his chest. He had entirely forgotten about the ferris wheel for a moment. "I love you.." The words were soft, mumbled against Ainosuke's sweater, but they were there.

"Pff.. I love you too, my junebug.." Ainosuke replied, kissing the top of his head. The two spent the rest of the ferris wheel ride just enjoying the view of the night sky, and the colorful carnival below. Maybe, just maybe, everything really would be fine.

🐺🦊 About OCs, I enjoy Original Characters a lot and have my ones that shared story with @skate-loveagain ones since are from a stories written by us, maybe at the beginning I don't post much of them since we're building their stories and world but when we had everything well ordered it's very sure that I will draw a lot of them too. Said that, our Original Characters are morally gray characters, aren't labeled as either "good" or "bad" characters, they're just humans/supernatural beings that make mistakes, either because of past they've had, how they've been raised, circumstances around them or their personal/mental situations to give a few examples. That is, they will only be "good" or "bad" for other characters around them, who will see them in one way or another depending on their points of view.
