Your favourite one of the many Gundams for the Gen Relationship thing?

First of all, thank you so much, @gischtglas for sending that ask =D . It’s taken me some time to go through it, but here it is. I’ve also tried to explain the characters a bit, so it’s not completely incomprehensible to people who haven’t watched Gundam.I’m going to cheat a bit though, and use all of the different Gundam series I’ve watched for this askmeme, because filling out this thing for only one series at a time was ridiculously hard.

Obviously there are going to be SPOILERS, specifically for Gundam 00, Seed, Wing and Iron Blooded Orphans

… thats a lot. I watch too much Gundam.

Give me a fandom and I’ll tell you:

   My favorite parent-child relationship: This one is fairly easy. Soma Peries (aka Marie Parfacy) and her adopted father, Sergei Smirnov, from Gundam 00 because what’s not to love?I mean, the guy is given a genetically engineered super soldier for his unit, only for him to promptly decide that This Girl Must Be Protected At All Costs. So obviously he needs to adopt her.

   My favorite sibling relationship:Kira Yamato and Cagalli Yula Athha from Gundam Seed, because I love both of them to pieces.It has all of the tropes… Twins separated at birth, one growing up as the daughter of an important politican, the other as a normal boy. When they find each other again there are some hints of romance, but that quickly fades into a solid friendship. It’s very Star Wars.I just love how their relationship evolves through the series and how they become each others emotional support.

   My favorite family relationship (other):Definitely Tekkadan from Iron Blooded Orphans as a whole, because found family is the best family.Actually Tekkadan is a security organisation, consisting of mostly orphaned kids, who have overthrown their shitty bosses and taken the company for themselves. But, like, have you even looked at them? Those guys become family within the first five episodes.

   My favorite friendship between two people:I’ll go with Iron Blooded Orphans again here and say Orga Itsuka and Mikazuki Augus, because there is so much trust and loyalty between those two. Also: perfect combo of Brawn (Mikazuki) and Brains (Orga).

   My favorite friendship between a group:Can I say Tekkadan again? No? Then it’s the whole main friend group from Build Fighters. (For clarification: Build Fighters is pretty much a meta series about building Gunpla model kits and piloting them in toy battles through weird sci-fi science. It’s awesome.)It consists of:- Sei Iori, a Gundam nerd who likes to build model kits, but is pretty much the worst at piloting them. Wants to win the Gunpla fighting World Tournament.- Reiji, the guy who has been roped into piloting Sei’s Gundams. He’s also an alien prince from another dimension.- China Kousaka, kind of reserved, really creative, get’s into Gunpla through Sei, who she’s in love with. Adorable cinnamon roll, needs to be protected at all cost.- Aila Jyrkiäinen, forced to compete against Sei and Reiji in the World Tournament, even though she hates Gunpla battle. Has shitty bosses who need to be launched into the sun. Always hungry. Will fight Reiji for food at all times.- Mao Yasaka, Gunpla builder, Sei’s big rival in terms of building, also fights in the World Tournament

   My favorite mentorship:Build Fighters’ Ricardo Fellini and Reiji. They’re hilarious.Both Fellini and Reiji are fairly easygoing in general, but I like, how both of them are serious about their battles. It’s also interesting, how their relationship develops from mentor and pupil to rivals on equal standing over the course of the series.

   My favorite rivalry:Setsuna “I am Gundam” F. Seiei and Graham “I love you Gundam” Aker from Gundam 00, hands down. Yes this is actual dialogue, why do you ask.Two mecha-idiots who coincidentally stand on different sides in a conflict. One of them thinks he is a mecha, the other won’t stop declaring that he loves mechas, and very specifically this one Gundam piloted by Setsuna, mind you.I laugh tears everytime I watch their scenes.

   My favorite hatred/antipathy:This is a hard one in Gundam, for the simple reason, that it mostly consists of enemies really respecting and often liking each other. Because tragedy and drama. So… I think I’ll go with Kamille Bidan and Jerid Messa from Zeta Gundam, since those two actually hate each others guts.

   My favorite potential relationship between characters who never talk in canon:Oof. This is another hard one.I would kind of like to see Zechs Merquise and Duo Maxwell from Gundam Wing interact? I don’t remember anything specific from canon right now. They would be fairly interesting as enemies and major rivals.I mean, Zechs is pretty much the usual blond haired antagonist in a mask, the lost prince of a fallen kingdom, fraught with Angst and Doubt and striving for Honor.Duo on the other hand has a dark past and grew up on the streets, but he’s more of a jokester type of charakter. He also specializes in sneaky stuff - read: cloaking technology for his Gundam and scrambling enemy sensors and communications.Zechs would be so frustrated with having to fight that all the time. And Duo would obviously keep making fun of him. So yeah. I would love to see that.

I lost track of time (as always, if you’re me) and forgot to upload this ages ago. Was reminded when checking some last 2019 files -- enjoy some doodles I did while watching Gundam Build Fighters this summer. Fantastic show, some great messages, extremely friendly to the casual Gundam viewer and REIJI IS BEST BOY. ♥

So I noticed a bit of a plot hole in Gundam Build Fighters Try Island Wars. At the end we see Aila’s Command Gundam in Arian with Reiji’s Beginning Gundam and their daughter’s Petit’gguy.

However in the Gundam Build Fighters ~6 years later~ epilogue, China has the Command Gundam on Earth.

So the question is, how did the Command Gundam travel to another planet? Unless of course the upcoming Build Fighters OVA features Reiji and Aila returning to Earth at some point!
