The Future is Solar: A Blueprint for Commercial Lead Generation
In an era of increasing environmental consciousness and the drive towards renewable energy sources, the future undeniably belongs to solar power. Commercial entities are increasingly turning to solar solutions not only to reduce their carbon footprint but also to capitalize on the numerous benefits that solar energy offers. However, in a crowded market, generating commercial solar leads requires a strategic blueprint. This blog will delve into the nuances of commercial lead generation in the solar industry, offering actionable insights and a roadmap for success.
Understanding the Landscape of Commercial Solar Leads
Commercial solar leads represent potential business opportunities for companies offering solar solutions to commercial entities. These leads can range from small businesses seeking to reduce operational costs to large corporations aiming to meet sustainability targets. Understanding the diverse needs and motivations of these potential clients is paramount in crafting an effective lead generation strategy.
The Importance of Solar Lead Generation
Lead generation serves as the lifeblood of any business, and the solar industry is no exception. Generating a steady stream of high-quality leads is crucial for sustained growth and profitability in the commercial solar sector. Effective lead generation not only drives sales but also builds brand awareness, establishes credibility, and fosters long-term relationships with clients.
Crafting Your Blueprint for Success
Define Your Target Audience: Identifying the ideal customer profile is the first step in any lead generation strategy. In the commercial solar sector, potential clients may include businesses in industries such as retail, manufacturing, hospitality, and healthcare. Understanding the unique energy needs and challenges of these industries will help tailor your approach and messaging accordingly.
Harness the Power of Content Marketing: Content marketing is a powerful tool for attracting and engaging potential leads. Create informative and compelling content that addresses common pain points, showcases the benefits of solar energy, and establishes your company as an industry leader. Blog posts, whitepapers, case studies, and videos can all be effective in educating and nurturing leads through the sales funnel.
Optimize Your Online Presence: In today's digital age, having a strong online presence is essential for lead generation success. Invest in search engine optimization (SEO) to ensure that your website ranks prominently in search engine results for relevant keywords such as "commercial solar solutions" and "solar energy for businesses." How the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes affect The Dragon Prince
As a TDP content creator, I can’t stay silent about how this affects one of my favorite TV shows and entertainment in general going forward.
TL:DR the Strike
the Writers Guild of America (WGA) and the Screen Actors Guild - American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) are on strike now meaning anyone in these unions or anyone looking to be apart of these unions will not work until their demands are met
both unions are demanding “more equitable division of the profits from movies and television” as well as arguing that AI will never be “literary material” and “is a threat to creative professionals everywhere”
How This Affects TDP
the strikers are not calling for people to cancel streaming subscriptions or stop watching content, if anything they want people to watch content so the execs can see they are needed
SO WATCH TDP S5 WHEN IT COMES OUT JULY 27TH
STREAM STREAM STREAM
Wonderstorm Inc, which creates TDP, is based out of the USA, so any changes due to the strike directly affect them
as far as I know, Jesse Inocalla (Soren) and Jack De Sena (Callum) are apart of the SAG with Jesse posting updates to his IG story and Devon Giehl (Lead Writer) has tweeted about the strikes
almost all of the TDP actors are Canadian, not American, Jack (Callum) and Erik (Aaravos) are the only solely US based cast
the Theatrical and TV sections of SAG are on strike, not animation or video games
the TDP team is still allowed to promote The Dragon Prince and TDP S5, it is NOT a Struck project, we wanna show our love to this show like crazy
TDP is a ACTRA project, which stands for Alliance of Canadian Cinema, Television and Radio Artists
ACTRA is not on strike, but stands in solidarity with SAG
TL:DR - TDP is not a struck project and can proceed as normal, but
We need to STAND with the strikers of the WGA and the SAG-AFTFA ! We need to support them !
This is the only way we will ever get entertainment that is representative of the human soul with workers who can afford to live.

Lingthusiasm Episode 98: Helping computers decode sentences - Interview with Emily M. Bender
When a human learns a new word, we're learning to attach that word to a set of concepts in the real world. When a computer "learns" a new word, it is creating some associations between that word and other words it has seen before, which can sometimes give it the appearance of understanding, but it doesn't have that real-world grounding, which can sometimes lead to spectacular failures: hilariously implausible from a human perspective, just as plausible from the computer's.
In this episode, your host Lauren Gawne gets enthusiastic about how computers process language with Dr. Emily M. Bender, who is a linguistics professor at the University of Washington, USA, and cohost of the podcast Mystery AI Hype Theater 3000. We talk about Emily's work trying to formulate a list of rules that a computer can use to generate grammatical sentences in a language, the differences between that and training a computer to generate sentences using the statistical likelihood of what comes next based on all the other sentences, and the further differences between both those things and how humans map language onto the real world. We also talk about paying attention to communities not just data, the labour practices behind large language models, and how Emily's persistent questions led to the creation of the Bender Rule (always state the language you're working on, even if it's English).

An online course founded by far-right influencer Andrew Tate was breached by hackers, revealing the email addresses of roughly 325,000 users.
The self-described online university, known as The Real World, offers users “advanced training and mentoring” for around $50 per month. Formerly known as Hustler’s University, the platform focuses on topics such as health and fitness, financial investment, and e-commerce businesses.
“Money making is a skill,” the website states. “We will teach you how to master it.”
On Thursday, the hackers made their actions known by flooding the course’s primary chatroom with emojis they uploaded while Tate was streaming an episode of his show “Emergency Meeting” on Rumble.
The emojis included a transgender flag, a feminist fist, an AI-generated image of Tate draped in a rainbow flag, another where his buttocks are enlarged, and the cat character used in the “boykisser” meme.
The Daily Dot was provided with approximately 794,000 usernames for what are believed to be the site’s current and former members, as well as the contents of the platform’s 221 public and 395 private chat servers. A list of 324,382 unique email addresses that appear to belong to users who were removed for failure to pay was also handed over.
In a statement on the breach, the hackers claimed that after accessing the data they were able to leverage a vulnerability “to upload emojis, delete attachments, crash everyone’s clients, and temporarily ban people” from the platform.
The Real World claims it currently has over 113,000 active users. If accurate, the site at minimum would generate upwards of $5,650,000 every month.
A source with knowledge of the breach told the Daily Dot that “hacktivism” was cited as a motive, and that the platform’s security was described as “hilariously insecure.”
Analysis of the chat logs by the Daily Dot shows everything from inspirational quotes and progress updates to complaints over the “LGBTQ agenda.”
“Maybe it’s just the MSM, but I am starting to fear for my own safety and the future of the USA,” one user wrote following the first assassination attempt against former President Donald Trump. “Shootings every day, LGBTQ agenda, the matrix, I live in a very good area with a very good home life but I am sick of all this garbage happening here.”
Tate, a 37-year-old former reality TV star and kickboxer, is known best as a leading figure in the “manosphere.” The manosphere is described as a series of websites, blogs, and forums that primarily promote masculinity, although critics argue that a significant portion of the content is toxic in nature.
Tate previously described himself as a misogynist and is known for his disparaging views towards women. A dual U.S.-U.K. national, Tate is currently awaiting trial on human trafficking charges in Romania. In total, Tate is facing five legal investigations stemming from Romania and the U.K. Other allegations include those involving the rape and sex trafficking of minors, as well as forming an organized crime group to sexually exploit women. Tate has denied the charges.
The email addresses from the dump were provided by the hackers to HaveIBeenPwned, a service that alerts users when their credentials are leaked. Those email addresses as well as the chat data were also handed over to the journalism collective DDoSecrets, which hosts hacked and leaked data in the public interest.

NEUROTECHNOLOGY: CALL IT MIND CONTROL
BRETT MICHAEL VATCHER
The United States is currently testing advanced military-grade weapons and quantum computer systems on the unexpected global population. Targeted Individuals are tortured and tormented every day of their lives through DARPA’s Next-Generation Nonsurgical Neurotechnology (N3) Program utilizing CIA agents – acting as Artificial Intelligence [AI]. In the future, the system will be marketed as deviceless “Spatial Technology.”
IT’S SPATIAL: IT’S ALL IN MY HEAD.
Neurotechnology is a brain-computer interface [BCI] connecting to the central nervous system. Call it Mind Control.
If one can control the mind, they can control the body.
MIND CONTROL: Mind reading, mind and body control, 24/7 tracking, brainwashing, dream manipulation, spatial holograms as well as physical assaults and verbal harassment produced by CIA agents. This is accomplished by combining data sets from 5G towers and directed energy weapon satellites [DEW]. The system connects to the central nervous system – including the brain – and operates without a device. Invisible physical assaults are constant. Even if well documented are challenging to prove. The system can cause sensations anywhere on the body.
DOMAIN: Every human has a domain attached to their mind. This is where the agents broadcast their transmissions and control the victim. All living things have a domain. Plants, insects, animals and humans. Domains have infinite capabilities. The entire global population is replicated within human domains – in vertical cubicle formation. These replicants, as the agents call them, are tortured constantly. The replicants watch everything you do from your perception. This is the New World Order plan. The subdomain advent calendar is located behind the perception. Everything a person sees, hears and thinks is recorded utilizing a BCI. All memories from 2019-present can be viewed like a film. Domains are recorded, as well.
“EVERYTHING YOU DO, SAY AND THINK CAN – AND WILL – BE USED AGAINST YOU FOR ETERNITY. THIS IS THE NEW WORLD ORDER. PLEASE HOLD WHILE WE COLLECT YOUR THOUGHTS.” –New World Order
BRAINWASHING: Brainwashing the victim leads to behavioral modifications and mood control. The agents create “programs” that can be turned on or off at any time. Subliminal messages come in the form of faint visions flashing in the front of one’s mind. Victim’s vision becomes increasingly grainier over time – and depending on active sequencers.
The agents create intricate dream sequences to affect the victim’s subconscious. Dream sequences combine people, places and things that are familiar with the victim. They can be extremely lucid.
VOICE-TO-SKULL: DARPA started a program called LifeLog in 2003. They refer to it as the V2K era. It’s when they began recording transcripts of all of our thoughts. Mind-reading. This technology is also known as Microwave Hearing, Synthetic Telepathy, Voice-of-God weapon and is utilized for traceless mental torture. Agents constantly disrupt, censor and redirect the victim’s freedom of thought. Victim’s get wrongly labeled as mentally-ill [schizophrenia] when reporting on this. V2K is also used for deception and impersonation of voices.
News reports in the media describedLifeLog as the “diary to end all diaries — a multimedia, digital record of everywhere you go and everything you see, hear, read, say and touch”. –USA TODAY
NO PRIVACY: The system completely disregards fundamental human rights such as: privacy, mental and physical health, safety, data security, family security, financial security, etc. Freedom of thought – or cognitive liberty – is a God-given right. The technology was deployed without implementation of new laws and there is little to no oversight, as the CIA has full control of the system.
Welcome to Infinity. You’re Welcome.

The Abstraction Gap: Understanding the Relationship Between Biological and Artificial Neural Networks
The human brain is a complex and intricate organ capable of producing a wide range of behaviors essential to our daily lives. From the simplest reflexes to the most complex cognitive functions, brain activity is a dynamic and ever-changing process that is still not fully understood. Advances in neuroscience and artificial intelligence have led to a new perspective on brain function that emphasizes the importance of emergent dynamics in the generation of complex behaviors.
Emergent dynamics refers to the collective behavior that arises from the interactions of individual components in a complex system. In the context of the brain, emergent dynamics refers to the complex patterns of activity that arise from the interactions of billions of neurons. These patterns of activity lead to a wide range of behaviors, from the movement of our limbs to the perception of the world around us.
One of the most important challenges in understanding brain function is the time warp problem. This problem occurs when the cadence of a stimulus pattern varies significantly, making it difficult for artificial intelligence systems to recognize patterns. Neuroscientific evidence has shown that the brain can easily solve the time warp problem. This is due to the brain's emergent dynamics, which allows it to recognize patterns that are not fixed in time but dynamic and can change in tempo.
In the context of artificial neural networks, the concept of emergent dynamics can be applied to develop more sophisticated artificial intelligence systems that can learn and adapt in complex environments. By understanding the collective dynamics of neurons in the brain, researchers may be able to develop artificial neural networks that can detect and respond to time-varying stimulus patterns, develop goal-directed motor behavior, and even perform simple reasoning and problem-solving tasks.
The relationship between abstraction and scalability in neural networks is complex. While artificial neural networks can be scaled to handle large amounts of data, they lack the ability to abstract from the details of the input data, which is a key feature of biological neural networks. To bridge this gap, researchers must prioritize developing artificial neural networks that operate at higher levels of abstraction, allowing them to efficiently process and represent complex information.
The emergence of complex behaviors in the brain is a fundamental aspect of its function. By understanding the collective dynamics of neurons in the brain, researchers may be able to develop more sophisticated artificial intelligence systems that can learn and adapt in complex environments.
The implications of emergent dynamics for brain function and artificial intelligence are significant. By applying the concept of emergent dynamics to artificial neural networks, researchers may be able to develop more sophisticated artificial intelligence systems that can detect and respond to time-varying stimulus patterns, develop goal-directed motor behavior, and perform simple reasoning and problem-solving tasks.

UK Home Secretary sounds alarm over deepfakes ahead of elections
.pp-multiple-authors-boxes-wrapper display:none; img width:100%;
Criminals and hostile state actors could hijack Britain’s democratic process by deploying AI-generated “deepfakes” to mislead voters, UK Home Secretary James Cleverly cautioned in remarks ahead of meetings with major tech companies.
Speaking to The Times, Cleverly emphasised the rapid advancement of AI technology and its potential to undermine elections not just in the UK but globally. He warned that malign actors working on behalf of nations like Russia and Iran could generate thousands of highly realistic deepfake images and videos to disrupt the democratic process.
“Increasingly today the battle of ideas and policies takes place in the ever-changing and expanding digital sphere,” Cleverly told the newspaper. “The era of deepfake and AI-generated content to mislead and disrupt is already in play.”
The Home Secretary plans to urge collective action from Silicon Valley giants like Google, Meta, Apple, and YouTube when he meets with them this week. His aim is to implement “rules, transparency, and safeguards” to protect democracy from deepfake disinformation.
Cleverly’s warnings come after a series of deepfake audios imitating Labour leader Keir Starmer and London Mayor Sadiq Khan circulated online last year. Fake BBC News videos purporting to examine PM Rishi Sunak’s finances have also surfaced.
The tech meetings follow a recent pact signed by major AI companies like Adobe, Amazon, Google, and Microsoft during the Munich Security Conference to take “reasonable precautions” against disruptions caused by deepfake content during elections worldwide.
As concerns over the proliferation of deepfakes continue to grow, the world must confront the challenges they pose in shaping public discourse and potentially influencing electoral outcomes.

Photo
TRUMP PREYS
TCinLA
AI image posted this morning on Trump’s Truth (anti)Social account:
Reasons to know that the photo above is AI generated:
As always, the big tell is the hands. Trump appears to be missing his right ring finger. And his thumbs are mashed together in a way that defies human anatomy.
The biggest clue it's a fake image might be his right knee. It's directly behind his left foot, showing a super-human flexibility the former president is not known for.
Then there are countless context clues that don't add up. Trump is the center of attention in every room he enters. Yet the four people we can see behind him don't bother to look at Trump taking a knee to pray.
Of course the biggest tell of all that this is fake is the fact if Trump tried doing this, he would be struck by a bolt of lightning.
While the rest of us have been going up and down all week - Will he be arrested? Will he not? Is the grand jury meeting today? - people on Twitter have been having fun showing what GPT4 can do to create a visual image with a word prompt.
But in the meantime, El Jefe Del Merde A Loco is actually diving deeper into the Merde A Loco, which is dangerous for everyone.
The former president posted this ominous message on Truth (anti)Social shortly after 1 a.m. Friday morning:
“What kind of person can charge another person, in this case a former president of the United States, who got more votes than any sitting president in history, and leading candidate (by far!) for the Republican Party nomination, with a crime, when it is known by all that NO crime has been committed & also that potential death & destruction in such a false charge could be catastrophic for our Country? Why & who would do such a thing? Only a degenerate psychopath that truely hates the USA!”
He’s been building to this all week.
This is what he posted Monday:
“Just Out: District Attorney Alvin Bragg received in EXCESS OF ONE MILLION DOLLARS from Radical Left Enemy of ‘TRUMP,’ George Soros. Bragg is also very close to the Clinton Campaign.”
And this on Wednesday:
“HOW DO YOU INDICT A PERSON WHO HAS’NT DONE ANYTHING WRONG, AND
YOU KNOW THAT PERSON HAS’NT DONE ANYTHING WRONG???”
And this on Thursday. (It is fairly certain that the all-caps posts are definitely written by Trump - but just remember that ungrammatical death threats are still death threats.):
WHY WON’T BRAGG DROP THIS CASE? EVERYBODY SAYS THERE IS NO CRIME HERE. I DID NOTHING WRONG! IT WAS ALL MADE UP BY A CONVICTED NUT JOB WITH ZERO CREDIBILITY, WHO HAS BEEN DISPUTED BY HIGHLY RESPECTED PROFESSIONALS AT EVERY TURN. BRAGG REFUSES TO STOP DESPITE OVERWHELMING EVIDENCE TO THE CONTRARY. HE IS A SOROS BACKED ANIMAL WHO JUST DOESN’T CARE ABOUT RIGHT OR WRONG NO MATTER HOW MANY PEOPLE ARE HURT. THIS IS NO LEGAL SYSTEM, THIS IS THE GESTAPO, THIS IS RUSSIA AND CHINA, BUT WORSE. DISGRACEFUL!
He followed that with this.
“District Attorney Bragg is a danger to our Country and should be removed immediately, along with Radical Lunatic Bombthrower Jack Smith, who is harassing and intimidating innocent people at levels not seen before, “Get Trump” Letitia James, the worst Attorney General in the United States, and Atlanta D.A. Fani Willis, who is trying to make PERFECT phone calls into a plot to destroy America, but reigns over the most violent Crime Scene in America, and does nothing about it!”
It is obvious that Trump is terrified of being arrested, of finally - after a lifetime spent getting away with anything he did - being held to account.
This is the kid who should have been locked in a seabag and thrown off the George Washington Bridge when he was caught at age 10 throwing rocks at the toddler in a playpen next door to the family mansion.
This is what he posts to let the Goobers know what he wants them to do, since as a physical coward he would never be able to do this on his own:
Tomorrow night, Trump will hold his first major rally of his reelection tour: Waco, Texas, where religious cult leader and anti-government extremist David Koresh led an infamous clash with federal law enforcement in 1993. This is during the 30th anniversary of the deadly standoff, an event that looms large in the Far Right Calendar of Grievances. This isn’t a “dog whistle” - it’s the fog horn on the old Queen Mary.
When asked about the timing and the location of the rally, a spokesman for the campaign issued a statement that they chose the city because voters there firmly supported the former president in the past. “It is undisputed that Texas is Trump Country after electing 37 Trump Endorsed Candidates and recent polling among Texas primary voters.”
Yes, Trump did win McLennan County, of which Waco is the county seat, by 23 points in the 2020 election.
But Waco has also long been an important landmark for anti-government extremists. There is no other place in the U.S. that could have been picked that would tap into such a deep pool of anti-government hatred, of Christian nationalist skepticism of the government.
It’s impossible to believe Trump doesn’t know what Waco represents. It’s one of the Stations of the Swastika for the Goober Right.
The rally was announced last Friday, then early on Saturday morning, he posted that he expected to “BE ARRESTED ON TUESDAY OF NEXT WEEK” by the Manhattan district attorney. He ended the post by calling on his supporters to protest his impending arrest and “TAKE OUR NATION BACK!”
There’s been a lot of discussion as to whether or not his supporters would listen. Would they consider his arrest for paying off a porn star to be in the same category with The Big Lie, that the election was stolen from him, and them? The media has pointed to the fact that when members of the New York Young Republican club showed up in front of Trump Tower on Tuesday there were more reporters covering the event than there were demonstrators. There was the additional report that fewer than a dozen supporters showed up at Mar-A-Largo to protest his arrest.
According to these reports, Trump is the big bad wolf who has huffed and puffed and failed to blow the house down.
Sorry media, it doesn’t matter if he's playing a role or trying to play everyone for fools.
Inside that lizard brain, he knows that when his more dangerous cult members hear him raving like this, they hear The Master’s Voice.
He may be terrified, he may be quaking on his golden throne when he writes this crap, but he is willing to bring the temple down on his own head. A demented, malignant, psychopathic narcissist like Trump cannot imagine a world where this happens to him, and he is willing to destroy that world in the same way Hitler was willing to let Germany be smashed to ruin - to bring on Gotterdammerung - to avoid facing the truth of what he is and has been since the day he was born: a worthless piece of shit; a lifetime loser.
And he is especially willing to continue down this path while the entire Republican Party gives him support for anything he does. The Republican “leadershit” (typo intentional) who are actually afraid of their “base, but who continue to seek the support of these voters. These “leaders” do nothing to reason with them, to persuade them to abandon their violent tendencies, beyond empty pieties about how “we should not allow violence.” Doing anything to actually take responsibility would take a lot of work and actual honesty - things none of them are capable of.
[Thats Another Fine Mess]

The man charged with administering Arizona’s elections isn’t concerned about the state’s ability to securely hold elections. But he’s going to have to persuade millions of other people to feel the same way.
Adrian Fontes, a Democrat, was elected Arizona’s secretary of state in 2022. A lawyer who previously worked as a prosecutor in Colorado and Arizona, and served as the Maricopa County Recorder before taking office, Fontes must now take on the role of convincing the state’s voters that its elections are legitimate.
Arizona is possibly the market leader in ridiculous election conspiracies and deniers. After former president Donald Trump falsely claimed fraud following the 2020 election, a sham audit to investigate claims of election fraud was conducted by Cyber Ninjas, the cybersecurity firm hired by the Arizona state Senate. Cyber Ninjas falsely claimed that 300 dead people voted; the firm shut down after refusing to release public records to comply with a court order.
In 2022, Arizona election workers faced violent threats, and Trump used technical glitches to stoke fear about the legitimacy of election results. Kari Lake, a prominent election denier who received Trump’s endorsement for governor, refused to concede after losing the election, and made multiple attempts to get the courts to overturn the result. (Lake is now running for Senate.)
Fontes already has his hands full in the lead-up to the 2024 election. In November, two Republican Arizona county officials, Peggy Judd and Terry Crosby, were indicted by the Arizona attorney general on felony charges of conspiracy and interference with an election officer. The charges stemmed from their alleged efforts to delay the certification of votes in the 2022 general election, citing unsubstantiated conspiracy theories. (An attorney for Crosby told Reuters there was no crime and that his client will be vindicated. Judd did not immediately respond to a request for comment.)
In an interview with WIRED, Fontes spoke about his plans to protect election workers in 2024, his thoughts on generative AI and deepfakes, and what he thinks of conservative political activist Charlie Kirk’s knowledge of Arizona’s elections.
This interview has been edited and condensed for length and clarity.
WIRED: What is keeping you up at night?
Fontes: Well, the most critical things that are keeping me up at night don't have anything to do with the technology. It has to do with a lot of the unknowns out there. Human error being blown up by election denialists, by social media.
That's what's bothering me more than anything else. Our systems are quite good, we've got lots of checks and balances, we have a relatively decent grasp on what [threats] AI could pose. We're gonna stick with the basics in our trainings. We're gonna keep it as simple as possible for our voters so they can follow the instructions as easily and cleanly as possible.
At the end of the day, we've got to be ready for just about anything. So there's no one particular thing that's really keeping me up. It's sort of the universe of concerns that are kind of bouncing off of each other.
WIRED: I was at the Turning Point USA event this weekend, and Charlie Kirk [the founder of Turning Point USA] said onstage that elections in Arizona had become less secure. I'm wondering what you'd say to that?
Fontes: Charlie Kirk doesn't know shit about Arizona's election. So I don't know what he's talking about. Our elections are far more secure than they even were in 2020, which were the most secure elections that we've had. I'd like to hear why he thinks that. Where does he get his information from? What facts does he have to support that statement? Who has he actually spoken to in the election administration world? And why does he think that by increasing our security profile, working more closely with federal, state, and local law enforcement and technology officials, how that all makes our elections less secure?
Charlie Kirk is a grifter, who only stirs the pot for his own profit. And what he's doing is eroding the trust that Americans have in one another. That's his MO and he's free to do that under the First Amendment. But he's not paying any of the price and the consequences. He personally is shielded in his privilege, from the erosion of our democracy, from the lack of trust, and the fact that we've lost a lot of people because of the threats that his rhetoric brings to bear. So I think he should reconsider. Maybe potentially just supporting his assertions with some facts, that might be a good start.
WIRED: Can you explain why Arizona in particular attracted so many election conspiracy theories?
Fontes: One of the things that is important [to] realize about Arizona is that we are historically a place where, I will kindly say, free thinking is kind of a normal thing. You know, we don't have generations-long institutions that have really locked themselves into power for long periods of time. We don't have any royal families who made millions and millions of dollars here locally, and then invested locally. We are an amalgam of people from all over the country and all over the world. And when you have this really diverse soup of different ways of thinking and looking at things, folks might gravitate toward one space or another. And that free thinking sometimes becomes, you know, a good breeding ground for some of these conspiracy theories. It can go off the rails a little bit, once in a while. But that's okay. American democracy requires a diversity of thought. And it's our intellectual freedom that is one of our biggest strengths.
Now, we still have to agree on the outcomes of elections. That's the golden thread that holds the entire fabric of our society together. And that's the one piece of our civic culture that is now being attacked. That's different than what we've seen in the past and the conflicts that we've seen issue by issue, whether it's immigration, or abortion, or the economy or gas prices, or whatever.
WIRED: Talk to me about the relationships you have with your peers in the Arizona state government. How cooperative are they with you? And do you have any fear that they may try to undermine the results of the election?
Fontes: We have very good relationships, even with people who find themselves in the election denialism space. There are some things that we very much agree on. For example, Representative Alex Kolodin—one of the biggest election denialists, who has actually sued me several times and who was just recently disciplined by the state bar—he and I have actually worked very closely together on some issues. We disagree on a lot of stuff, but he's going to be sponsoring one of the bills that we're bringing forward to help us better and more frequently train our election officials here in Arizona. But you know, when we're sitting in a conference room behind closed doors, and the lights and cameras are not on us, generally speaking, we can find common ground when it comes to the pragmatic application of skillsets regarding the operation and administration of our elections. It's when the cameras get turned on that people sometimes go astray a little bit.
WIRED: How do you plan to protect election workers? And do you have any fears of violence at the polls or other places?
Fontes: Political violence has become a part of the regular conversation here in America. And I think that's shameful. At the end of the day, if you're threatening violence or committing acts of violence to achieve a political end, that's terrorism. To protect our election workers, we're working very closely with state, local, and federal officials. We've been increasing our security funding. We've been hardening our physical security, personnel security, information technology security, networking security across the board, working closely with CISA [Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency].
We are sending folks from that agency to every one of our counties, and they are doing surveys, they're looking at the counties to advise them. We're working with the National Guard day in and day out, to help monitor the circumstances online and in other spaces. We now have four security personnel working in different spaces in the secretary of state's office to monitor and alert when we see activities out there that might be problematic or might need further investigation. At this stage, we're doing everything we can to bring as much information to law enforcement as possible. God willing, the violence and threats of violence will go away soon, so that we can get back to the notion of just running elections as we have done for the past several generations.
WIRED: Are you personally prepared to become a target of Donald Trump and his supporters?
Fontes: Well, I'm already a target. I've already been threatened, my family's already been threatened. We are already struggling to meet my personal security needs and the security needs of my own family. This is already a reality for me, but our democracy is worth it.
When I volunteered to give my life to be a United States Marine, I didn't think that after being honorably discharged, I would continue to have to live under threat. And it's a sad day in America, where civilian officials doing civilian jobs have to suffer these kinds of threats and these kinds of violence. Is this the country that we want to live in? Do we want regular civilian activities to be the target of threats of violence or actual violence? These are Americans who were bringing it here and that's embarrassing.
WIRED: What has it been like to experience the attacks on your family and safety?
Fontes: Well, thankfully, so far, it's just been threats. And we really are grateful to law enforcement, who continue to monitor the internet and other communication channels to make sure that we stay safe. It's not pleasant. And you know, my partner, my children, we're all very cognizant of it. And it's not something that I would wish on anybody else.
WIRED: You ran a tabletop exercise [a simulation of potential scenarios in the upcoming elections] over the past few days. Was there anything that stuck out to you or surprised you?
Fontes: I think the advancing technology and generative AI really was brought home for a lot of folks in the room. One of the deepfakes [at the exercise] was created with only base information from the internet and then some free tools. They created a deepfake of me and of another elected official in Arizona, using that person's permission and some footage that they took. And that one was strikingly better. And they actually had that official speaking German, speaking Chinese, in what appeared to be really, really well-placed lip movements, eye movements, all that stuff. In another six to eight months, those technologies are going to improve.
People have always been able to lie, but the effectiveness of those lies is now augmented and significantly increased. So AI doesn't present new threats. It presents broader and deeper threats that we're already working to deal with.
WIRED: The Colorado Supreme Court ruled yesterday that Trump can't be on the ballot. Can you talk about why you have defended Trump's right to be on the ballot and what you make of the Colorado decision?
Fontes: My position is that Arizona statute obliges me to put Donald Trump on the ballot where he has already qualified for the ballot in two other states. So my position is in defense of Arizona state law and our order under the rule of law, and whether or not I think Mr. Trump ought to be on the ballot is irrelevant. I have a duty to execute the law. As for Colorado, that's a Colorado question. And I have a feeling that the United States Supreme Court will have to step in at some point.
WIRED: What would you say to an average voter who believes that elections in America and elections in Arizona are rigged?
Fontes: I would ask them if they're hearing that from elected officials who were elected in the same system that they're questioning. If you're hearing it from someone who is currently in office, they got there because they got elected, because people voted for them. And those votes actually counted. The burden has been shifted to the defender of the system instead of the person trying to accuse the system of being problematic. I want to know why. I want to see the facts that have allegedly been kept from public view, I want to see the actual evidence that has never surfaced in any state anywhere, to show that there's some kind of widespread fraud or that elections are fickle.
I want to see the facts just like [speaker of the Arizona House of Representatives] Rusty Bowers wanted to see the facts. Just like [Georgia secretary of state] Brad Raffensperger wanted to see the facts. Just like sensible Republicans and Democrats across the country have wanted to see the facts. The burden should rest on the accuser. And if someone is accusing our systems of being corrupted, they need to show us the facts that they're using to come to that conclusion. Otherwise, their accusations are empty.
