I'm actually working on a fic in spare time (its getting so out of hand, it'll never be finished) that is a special children Yellowjackets au which has been really fun

basically it has the 2 timelines like Yellowjackets. one with sam and the special children winning a contest to go on a fun retreat, everyone else dies in the crash and they must somehow find a way survive in the wilderness with this weird guy who looks at them weird, and the other timeline, is dean who is raising jack (who is supposedly sam's son)because sam has been staying in a mental hospital and basically it is dean and jack trying to figure out what happened and interviewing the surviving special children. lots of sex and violence. i am having fun with it but idk if itll ever be available to the public

in the land of not-a-show, this seems very reasonable. we have the means and opportunity to FINALLY fucking kill this guy, who has done unspeakably awful things to more than one person present. who they've been trying to take out for a long ass time. but, being that it's this show, yeah. of course it's not that simple. i think they had a general plan to kill him after they used him for the nexus excursion, yes? but them believing he'd still be captured and subdued until then was a bit of a stretch :p also, jack wasn't around for that convo and i suppose he might have some thoughts and feelings around cutting down bio dad right away

i know the wiki has hugs and lengths (which amuses me to no end), i wouldn't be surprised if that was one of the longer ones. ahbl 29 seconds i think is an outlier being that sam is dead through most of it 😞 what a statement. excluding ahbl pt 1, top 3! lol

other thing he did, which he does regularly? when he's affectionate, that turn to the side like he's checking who's around or avoiding eye contact while he got a little mushy.

he does it before hugging a lot too, like the avoiding eye contact and pulling someone in. definitely with charlie, not sure actually who all he does it with, if everyone at one point or another? anyway. he doesn't instigate a ton of hugs. i'm not under the influence, i swear, i'm just extra... *waves hands*

jack having a little montage o'guilt with xfiles sounds rapid fire (they use it periodically now but i don't recall so many of them in one scene like this. i had to search for "shoe" on the wiki because my blog search is perpetually fucked and all i could remember of the scene was sam finding a shoe lol)

so like, the solution is all the au people come back with her through the nexus, right? so this is a moot conversation? but. dean's reaction to her "i know what you went through to come find me" was so right. like, understatement of the century and in fact i DON'T think you know what they did. and (show logic aside) sam died and only isn't still dead due to a fluke/luck.

interesting to see the production draft script has her saying sorry and that she's grateful, which didn't make it to screen

granted, i think they were doing the getting back to the nexus project for jack too, and i imagine they would have made the same efforts and paid the same prices. but anyway. feels like dean is always waiting for the other shoe to drop with mary, reinforced with her needing space business before, so understandably he's immediately reacting defensively and maybe a little childishly (do they need-need mary? probably not. but it's also reasonable and understandable to want your almost entirely absent mother [which she had no control over] once you got her back)

another thing i like about pellegrino's lucifer, the hair! it just is almost always unkempt in not a cool way, more the disaster been sleeping on it weird way. which my hair also is often in some degree of.

pointing to my very disgruntled thoughts about this in 12x08. we're going to regularly make allusions to lucifer raping sam via hallucifer and i think also when sam was stuck with him in 11x09 before cas sprung luci but then lucifer in the president vessel supposedly had never had sex. ok. i prefer to believe that rape isn't part of the torture package, but they make it real hard sometimes. but the show is gonna tell us that was the first time lucifer had sex. being generous and dumb, maybe he believes in the rehymenation like dean. or some particulars of being in a human vessel. as opposed to whatever it is exactly getting tortured in hell. soul in vessel-ish shape? because it wasn't dean's shiny glowing light of a soul on the rack, it was his person. i've been thinking about this off and on since we knew generally what a soul was supposed to look like

like yes obviously, going this route is going to make anyone shut down and not listen to what you have to say (acting like john winchester basically), especially someone who is framed as being a kid. HOWEVER! couldn't we just say that lucifer spent a year which is equivalent to whatever in dog hell years torturing sam. our sam, that's standing right there. your sam, who you're including as a father figure.

like she's trying to impart some parenting wisdom - which this is surely applicable to regular real life parenting! but i don't think it's applicable to the situation at hand. being that the grown ass adults with a lot of life experience and big bad demons etc etc have been fooled by lucifer time and time again. at least he should be aware of the actual harm lucifer has done to everyone present that they've personally experienced. and maybe he does know? i'm thinking WAY TOO MUCH ABOUT THIS. for this half baked plot shit.

Thinking a lot about the spn au I semi wrote out/outlined.

Fem!Sam but her and Dean had a kid when they were teenagers, she still went to college but not Stanford. Dean and her settle somewhere since John didn't approve and they walked out.

Pilot au except Bobby goes to them saying he hasn't heard from their dad and that the last call he got from him sounded as if he was in trouble, saying something is going after samdean and their kids(they have a second kid by the time pilot au happens so ages 7 and 3)

More or less the same except kids involved.

AHBL storyline but the kids are ages 9, 5, and Sam's due any day now.

i understand why it's a hard topic for some, but i am always interested in work that explores permanent injury. the show doesn't ever do it (even bobby gets cured lol), but there's plenty of opportunities: dean not coming back from hell with his body healed is the main one that comes to mind, but sam waking up after dean's deal in AHBL with a permanent injury from his back wound is another. or honestly, just either of them getting injured on a hunt. i like character studies via how a character deals with this and how it would affect S/D's relationship – and i think S&D would deal extremely differently, and it definitely would effect their relationship!

plus, y'know, chronic pain gang and because of that i think i am particularly fond of this specific uh...trope? au? not sure the word to use. not that you need to have chronic pain to want to explore this lol i just think it’s one of the reasons for me.

one thing about me, it only takes one good fic or one good meta to convince me of something. i have my 'hard' headcanons but i also have a pretty open mind and am always willing to entertain stuff that feels IC to me, so i'm always really down to see different people's takes on this!

As I've mentioned in other posts, Jensen does have some creative control, but he's limited in the extent. For example, Misha and RSJ have said that they approached Jensen about the Casfession and made sure it was ok with him before they moved forward with it. As noted above, Jensen changed the blocking in 15.20. It was supposed to be a reverse AHBL, with Dean dying in Sam's arm from a back wound the way Sam died in Dean's arms.

At the same time, there were many things in Supernatural that Jensen had no control over. I think we are all pretty well aware that Jensen is displeased with how Dean died in 15.20. I mean, I agree with him. He expected Dean to go out in more of a battle and I think it would've been better if it had been less accidental. I understand that it was supposed to demonstrate how dangerous their hunts were and all that, but yeah.

I think he was always supposed to end up on the rebar, but Sam would lift him off. It wasn't Dean dying that Jensen had a hard time with - he predicted Dean would die - but how it happened.

We know what some of the omitted scenes were. For example, Sam was supposed to call various people and inform them of Dean's death like AU!Charlie, Rowena, Max, etc.

There was also supposed to be a Roadhouse scene with Jimmy being mistaken for Castiel. Dean and Jimmy were supposed to have a conversation about Claire.

From Scripthunt or panels, do we know when the stage direction about not reciprocating was put in and by whose suggestion? Was it Berens himself and how early, for example, or was it a late add after insistence by someone else (and whom)

Those words were in all the versions of the scripts that we've had or heard about. Berens said he wrote the scene the very first thing for the season and I haven't heard reports of that scene being edited, although only he would know for sure. Multiple cast and crew have said there was no later editing of that scene and we have at least 3 separate versions of that script. They did change some things, like the name. It was originally "The Truth".

"Can't reciprocate" can mean a variety of things, including that Dean can't reciprocate in the moment, so I don't think it means much in isolation.

However, there were crew/other people who leaked the scene before the show ended. I got a copy of the script early on - I think April? - and the reason some people leaked it is because they were upset over how Castiel was treated in the narrative.

One of my early sources, who ended up being right about basically everything they said, also said that Dean reciprocating was never pitched or planned at all. They said that Berens wrote the scene with "can't reciprocate" in part because it was part of his strategy to get TPTB to approve it because it was a bit of a hard sell. I don't believe that Berens has ever publicly confirmed or denied this, but since my source was right about so many things, I don't see a reason to disbelieve it.

Misha and RSJ have talked about how it was a surprise that the show even went there. Misha said that he didn't think that they would ever even confirm Castiel's side. They've talked about how people had to be sold on it, including Jensen. At a recent convention, Misha talked about how he knows that some fans were disappointed that there wasn't more, but from his perspective, it was a miracle that they got what they got.

I also heard from those same early sources that Jensen had the freedom to go as far with the scene as he wanted to. If Jensen had wanted to say "me too", then he could have said it. He never said it. I was extremely curious to see that scene, after reading that script, because I knew Jensen had the freedom to do with it as he wanted.

but it is kind of annoying that death stops mattering bc jared and jensen are good at showing that it does! like red meat is so good bc it depends on that! like this is just a regular hunt for them and sam is dying and dean is losing his fucking mind. dean literally kills himself because of it. and then, bc hes insane, he tells sam that he knew he wasn’t dead. normal people things. and the finale of s11! dean is going to die to solve the big plot and sam is standing there saying goodbye to his brother and at first it’s like they’re not going to do anything but then dean says “come here” and he pulls sam in for a hug and sam folds himself in against deans shoulder and they’re saying goodbye and this isn’t nothing to them!!!!! it was never nothing, it’s always heartbreaking and gut wrenching and it’s the worst thing you could think of, it’s your worst nightmare come to life, it’s the thing you would give anything to stop!!! dean went to hell just so he wouldn’t have to live without sam. this never stops. they never stop being willing to die for each other, they never stop grieving, it doesn’t matter how many deaths it’s been, they grieve every single time.

A year goes by and he's living recklessly, vengefully, tracking down every demon that had a hand in his little brother's misery, getting intel from a demon named Ruby. He doesn't trust her but she has a knife that kills demons and he wants them all to die. He doesn't trust her but she fixed the Colt for him, taught him and Bobby how to make bullets for it.

(He doesn't trust her but she does the research for him and keeps him sober enough and rides shotgun in a canvas jacket with a fond smile at his stupid jokes.)

She's only got one request -- her own vengeance. Says a demon named Lilith was to her what Azazel was to Dean. Good enough for him, what's one more demon to kill.

The Colt is sufficient to kill Lilith. The first seal.

The first words on angel radio aren't "Dean Winchester is saved" in this timeline. Instead they are "Sam Winchester is fallen." Ousted from the womb of heaven.

One year to the day. Dean stumbles out of the church where Lilith went up in a flash of blinding light, arm in arm with a demon named Ruby in her tall pretty vessel with soft brown shoulder length curls, and finds his little brother naked in the mud outside.

One year to the day. The exact position he died in, on his knees and trembling. Unbloodied now, a miracle in the mud. Gathered exactly the same into Dean's arms while Ruby's lips stretch wide into a smile behind them.

omg yeah! i think it started out of a conversation w allison @arsonsamruby (correct me if i’m wrong tho allison ♥️!) about this concept where brady keeps in contact with sam after he leaves stanford via email (?). i was thinking about how demon!brady might reach out to sam again, say, midway through season 2 or in season 3 building to the apocalypse and manipulate him that way — in my vision he sort of encourages him to distance himself from dean, to do what sam feels like he has to, etc but i haven’t fleshed it out that much! i see him maybe doing this at first on orders to keep an eye on sam (from azazel if pre AHBL or from pestilence/etc if pre apocalypse) but as time goes on his loyalties shift more towards sam

Sam & Dean + becoming Parabatai

Ok, so recaptulating:

A parabatai is a pair of Shadowhunters who fight together as lifelong partners, willing to lay down their lives for one another, bound together by oath (which I posted here). Most Shadowhunters don’t have a parabatai, and those who do can only have one in their lives, even if their partner dies.

In The Shadowhunters Chronicles those who want to become parabatai have to perform the ritual before they’re 19 - I don’t know if the “magic” simply doesn’t work after that or if it’s just tradition, the books I’ve read so far didn’t specify. In any case, I’m ignoring that piece of canon to fit the AU here, so no age limits. 

Anyway, the things is: Would Sam and Dean have taken the oath before or after Stanford? I imagine afterwards, but what was it like before? Did they talk about doing it, even if only once as kids? Who brought it up first? Or did they thought of doing it but never said it out loud and then Sam was gone? And when did they do it, afterall?

Lore time:

You see, one thing Shadowhunters do is use angelic runes on their bodies to enhance their skills (like strength, speed, dextery) or perform a special task (like tracking or opening a lock). Most runes are temporary and fade, so they need to be reapplied. Others are permanent: Like the parabatai rune, which the pair mark on each other in the ritual.

The bond created by the mark enhances the natural feelings of love and friendship that exist between the pair, though it does not prevent rivalry or hate from forming between them. Great distances can wane or even severe the connection.

They are also able to draw on each other's strength in battle, and to feel the life force from one another. They don’t feel when the other gets a common injury (though that may vary somewhat depending on the pair), but they can feel the life of their partner leaving in death. They can however feel when the other’s body is under extreme supernatural injury or similar occurrence.

That’s like, a lot, so I’m picturing them waiting until Sam gets older to do it – Dean is protective as it is. So we’ve got little Sammy anxiously waiting for Dean and John to come back from a hunt, thinking that when he gets older he will be able to hunt next to Dean and help him - you know the drill.

Except as he gets older and starts to think that he doesn’t want to hunt for the rest of his life..he would also start thinking it might be better not to become parabatai after all. I mean, if they do become, at least he would be connected to Dean…but why do it just to leave? That’s not gonna help Dean in battle… So when the fight with John happens and Sam leaves “for good”, that was it. Sam was 18, maybe Dean had been thinking of asking him any time then? And suddenly Sam is leaving! Damn. Whether they discussed it before or just silently assumed they would become parabatai someday, it’s not happening anymore. You know, one more resentment for the tab.

So years pass, “dad’s on a hunting trip”, they get back together on the road. When would they perform the ritual? No very soon I assume, specially since Sam was thinking of going back to college at first.

Hmm I wonder if season 2 would be a good point. AHBL Part 2? This dialogue comes to mind:

D: I had to look out for you. That's my job. S: And what do you think my job is? D: What? S: You've saved my life over and over. I mean, you sacrifice everything for me. Don't you think I'd do the same for you? You're my big brother. There's nothing I wouldn't do for you.

Or maybe it would have happened already? That would also allow for Dean to feel Sam dying... I think that dialogue could work either as Sam reminding Dean of their oath or as a cue for them to take it!

Or is season 2 still early? Season 3? I mean, season 4 is probably a no-go. Would season 5 be too late? Or maybe that would be part of the tragedy... If so, I guess it would need to happen after 5x04 The End. Would it only be near the end of the season? Questions, questions…

In any case I think it would be wrong not to have it happen in the classic years, it’s an event that would absolutely have taken place back then.

Additionally, if it wasn’t for the big strain shortly after in season 9, I would say 8x23 Sacrifice would have been a good fit for a... symbolic repeat of the oath? Not for specific lines in the oath, but for the sentiment of partnership in them! 

I would need to rewatch some later seasons to try to find a different moment for that instead...is there a good point in season 11, perhaps? It’s not just about them being on the same page, I’m trying to think of specific moments that would elicit them to verbalize it... 

Then again there are also plenty of opportunities for them to quote at least part of the oath over the years. “For whither thou ghoest, I will go” or even a simplified version “Where you go, I’ll go” could certainly easily fit in many instances. 13x20 Unfinished Business where Sam insists he and Dean will go to A.W. together jumps to mind. 

Alternatively:

A scenario where there IS in fact an age limit for the ritual (though it would need to be higher than 18 if they had not taken it yet when Sam left)… and Dean hit it at some point while Sam was at Stanford. And they were both very aware of that, but obviously didn’t do anything about it, so by the time they reunited it was too late. Probably fought about it at some point – not sure if in anger or sadness or if they were under the effect of something. Maybe all of the above, in different occasions.

And then of course while still in the classic years, instead of doing the ritual they would end up taking the oath symbolically anyway. Cause it may not have any supernatural effect anymore but at the end of the day they’re partners, magical rune or not.
