okay no it's kind of actually fucked up how many little moments stiles and his dad get after big dramatic points in a season just to hug and reassure each other their both still alive meanwhile scott and melissa get like. two hugs the entire show. am i crazy or are there actually so few. and a post death and resurrection pep talk that lowkey sucks anyway. like don't get me wrong scott's mom is a huge cornerstone to his humanity and more importantly his Youth throughout a world of unending violence and monsters and their love for each other is undeniable but they're given so few moments to actually show it in comparison as soon as you start to pay attention and it SUCKSSS it's. fucking criminal. crime against me specifically. is what it is. in the season scott's worst nightmare is coming true and he's turned into a monster (again) against his will (again) in the form of a berserker and almost kills his friends and they almost kill him, we get a stilinski family + malia hug as soon as we cut away from mexico, even kira gets a small, warm scene with her mom, hug-less as it may be, meanwhile melissa is in the episode for a grand total of, get this. um. checks notes. 0 minutes 0 seconds. i need to kill myself

#j rewatches teen wolf #like it's almost a decade later so maybe the actress was just. too busy to be scott mccall's mom :(#but um #they had 6 seasons to work with so #you get 0 MINUTES 0 SECONDS OF FORGIVENESS. There is so much going on between all of them.#Even on a purely platonic reading - the miscommunication and male yearning for friendship hurt so bad.#When we got the Big Hug scene in the epilogue arc I was whooping and hollering! PANEL FIVE: Hunter throws the door open with a BANG, Belos following behind him. "DAD!" he yells happily. Caleb jolts, startled. PANEL SIX: "You'll never guess what just happened!" says Hunter excitedly. Caleb turns to him, wiping the clay off his hands with a towel. "Violence and destruction of property?" "Well, yes," answers Hunter, "but--." PANEL SEVEN: Belos stands at Hunter's side and rests his hand on his shoulder. Hunter puts his hands on his hips and smiles at Caleb proudly. "Lilith Clawthorne has finally captured the Owl Lady," says Belos. PANEL EIGHT: Caleb clutches his shirt as he looks at them, horrified. They build weapons and upgrade stuff together frequently- Deadshot Percy is a lot more focused on efficiency and getting the job done as fast as possible, so she really doesn't get Brainstorm's motives or reasoning behind her incredibly elaborate traps. Also Percy is frequently out on days long contract missions so she usually comes home to, (and has to sit through) BS's evil pajama plot rants a lot.. they seem to get more elaborate over time?

anyways, speaking of cannibalism, wrt frey pies in particular, it just hit me that the rat cook song is not just a way for wyman to slyly telegraph what he did w/o any of his in-world foes noticing, it could also be his justification just as much as inspiration. let's look back at how we learned of the legend through bran:

"It was not for murder that the gods cursed him," Old Nan said, "nor for serving the Andal king his son in a pie. A man has a right to vengeance. But he slew a guest beneath his roof, and that the gods cannot forgive." -Bran IV, aSoS

so, in other words: 1) violating guest right is the most heinous of crimes and 2) if guest right is not violated then murder and even cannibalizing the murdered to feed to their own kin is a-ok so long as the motive is personal revenge. by giving guest gifts to the 3 frey envoys to end any guest rite bond asap and get to the killings, wyman not only gets just a feeling of moral superiority by at least not committing the same type of crime as the enemies he killed, he also ensured that his vengeance could be divinely sanctioned as a natural right correctly exercised, unlike how the rat cook did his. he learned his lessons from this northern legend and improved upon the actions of this nightfort cook accordingly. thing is, the justified right to vengeance has to be just an old gods thing, not fitting in with the seven (which house manderly had converted to 1000s of years ago back in the reach) as the christainity stand-in, which is just evidence of the depth of manderly northern assimilation and/or that old dark ways never entirely disappear, no matter the religion. wyman manderly can still worship the "new" gods with just as much urge toward old-fashioned bloody revenge as any old gods worshipping northman, not so different from his vassal ser bartimus in the wolf's den who bragged to davos that his ancestors were likely among those who once hung slavers' entrails in a heart tree as a bloody offering to the old gods.
