Hello, Tumblr, I'm officially stretching out here now!

I already keep a blog on another site, but this is just for the more taboo shit I'm into: spirit-spousery, agere, soft witchcraft, Christian mysticism and my own odd need to be ever closer to my deities and spirit friends.

As previously stated, I am Markus Gaines, you can call me MG if the other is too long. As of June 1st of last year, I am married to the ghost of my dead BF (now husband). I've touched on this on my other blog, but as I don't intend on connecting the two, I'll elaborate here.

I am a 22-year-old (23 in Dec.) eclectic witch living in the PNW. I am originally from Appalachia, Northern Alabama, to be exact, and I practice Appalachian folkcraft. I moved here after needing a change and trusting my deities at the time to provide, and they did not disappoint. Obviously.

I am a psychic, as well. I can see/feel/taste/hear/smell the spirit world just as well as I can the living. I've learned to astral project fully, or rather, my angel helped me by literally pulling me out. I've been testing the waters, and I like it so far. I have the hands-on healing gift, but I don't bring it to light that much. I am an energy worker, and a few other things, as well.

Since my arrival here, I have couch-surfed across many a haunted hellhole, had a few crises of faith, and married a ghost. Overall, 10/10, would do again!

I attend an Episcopal Church on Sundays and a local Pagan group every month. It took a bit to find the right balance, but I like what I've got. I recently began doing Altar Guild and also do Sabbat services at the pagan group.

All in all, my life here is pretty damn close to perfect. There has been some pushback by a few people who distrust my abilities, but they seem to be on their way out. Thankfully.

I am demiromantic/asexual. I'm not sex-repulsed, I just don't care for it.

My Husband's name is Leo Valdez Marie. We met when we were both sixteen, and it was fireworks from then on. He is a little, and I am his caregiver. Though it was hard at first, we made it work. I'll post an intro to him, as well, I just need to check with him.

I’m still working my way through The Magnus Archives -- I’m on episode 90 or so -- but it occurred to me on the way to work this morning that they probably have a fundraising office. 

They’re not government funded, or if they are it’s small grants. Jonah Magnus definitely left them an endowment, but if Elias is worried about setting off the Lucases, then it’s probably not a large one and it may be dwindling. If the Lucases were their sole patrons then Elias could probably handle them on his own, but given they appear to have other supporters as well, there is probably a small staff dedicated to fundraising. 

And given the Magnus Archives doesn’t appear to be particularly secret -- people seem to be generally aware of them and there was the documents leak in the 1990s -- then probably they have an Annual Fund for support from the kind of people who actually make use of the archives but aren’t big donors -- New Agers and crackpots and conspiracy theorists and bored grad students. Which means they need a Gifts Processing officer at least and probably someone to manage the Annual Fund. 

So you’re looking at a dedicated staff of at least two gift officers, probably closer to four -- one or two for Major Giving, one for Annual Fund, one dedicated to the Lucases. Plus at least one Stewardship/Communications officer who, if they don’t meet with the donors, prepare the annual reports and regular communications; possibly two, one for Stewardship Communications and one for regular Communications (appeal letters, etc). And you need a gift administrator who may serve double-duty as a data processor for address updates; if they’re lucky there’s also a dedicated researcher, though the gift administrator may be tapped for that as well, and an administrative assistant or project manager to keep the office running smoothly and coordinate communication amongst units. 

Given the general scrubbiness and budget worries, I’d say a small staff. Say one Major Giving officer who also handles the Lucases and serves as office Director, one MG officer for general fundraising, one for Annual Fund, one Stewardship/Communications officer; then a gift administrator/data processor, a research officer who may do double-duty with Stewardship, and a project manager. That’s a staff of seven, tiered in threes under the MG/Director; a nice lucky number for the department. 

I bet the Magnus Archives Development Office is an interesting place to work.

Højteknologisk skræk i livet

'Det førerløse menneske' er en modig forestilling om teknikkens fremmedgørelse, men trods en stærk ide halter udførelsen.

Øyvind Kirchhoff står alene på scenen og venter utålmodigt,  imens publikum får sat sig til rette. Der er noget anstrengt ved ham, som han står der og tripper og ligefrem shss’er på publikum. Lidt sjovt - og temmelig uhøfligt.

Lirekassemusikken i baggrunden er både idyllisk og skræmmende. Det er en dobbelthed, der går igen igennem hele stykket. Vi skiftevis mores og undres. Universet er så fremmed, at det bliver uhyggeligt.

Dette er ikke en børneforestilling trods de mange comic reliefs undervejs. Grundlæggende er det hele så underligt, og man konsekvent er på stikkerne for at forsøge at forstå, hvad der egentlig foregår i 'Det førerløse menneske', der er en samproduktion mellem Det Olske Orkester og Teater Katapult.

God start

Med et brag er vi i gang. Kirchhoff hamrer telefon efter telefon ned i blikskraldespanden foran sig. Metodisk tømmer han lommerne for elektronik. Earplugs, smartwatch m.v. følger. En uendelig strøm af gadgets smides ud med bulder og brag.

Da han langt om længe er strippet for udstyr, kræver han med bestemt mine det samme af publikum. Tilbyder os skraldespanden i ryk, der får folk til at grine nervøst og gemme telefonen ekstra langt væk.

Vi er med al tydelighed på ingen måde klar til den proces, vores hovedperson har tænkt sig at gå igennem. At forsage teknikken og – gisp! – prøve at leve uden. Sikke et drama. Hvordan skal det ikke ende?

Tilbage i tiden

En mystisk maskine og tunge slag fra et bornholmerur indikerer, at en form for tidsrejse er lykkedes. Vores ensomme mand er nu mere eller mindre fanget i et forladt 1960’er-rum. Via overbevisende klassisk mime-kropssprog forstår vi, at der er glas hele vejen rundt, så hvad der ved første øjekast kunne virke som en hyggelig stue i ældre stil, får pludselig noter af skræmmende forsøgsrum.

Skrivemaskinen er det tætteste, vi kommer på en iPhone her, og den gamle radio er et mysterium for ham at få til at virke. Statisk skratten bliver dog heldigvis afløst af både klassisk musik og til undertegnedes store glæde også af Booker T & The MG’s formidable ’Green Onions’, der agerer forførende blues-bagtæppe til vores ensomme mand på scenen og hans forsøg på at få mening ud af den teknikløse fortid.

Slapstick-komedie på dystert bagtæppe

Vi griner alle, da hans krop igen og igen låser sig fast med bøjet nakke ned mod hånden i et velkendt mobilgreb. Nakke og arm er simpelthen låst, og vores mand kæmper for at komme fri. Teknik-afhængigheden er ikke kun psykisk men i høj grad også fysisk. Her er digitale abstinenser så det batter.

Der udbryder også latter i salen, da Kirchhoff glædestrålende tror, at en gammeldags bog er en laptop, og følgelig også over skuffelsen hos ham, når han selvfølgelig ikke kan få den til at virke.

Den gammeldags drejetelefon er også imponerende udfordrende for ham at forstå og betjene. Med røret dinglende bag sig og drejeskiven ved øret hører vi svagt en stemme i den anden ende. Der kommer aldrig meningsfuldt hul igennem.

Det er slapstick komedie på et dystert bagtæppe af ensomhed og isolation. Og dørklokken – hvad er nu det for noget? Forgæves og ganske desperat forsøger vores mand at afkode de fremmede, gammeldags lyde, der udfordrer og stresser.

Noget halter

Kirchhoff gør det godt som mimer. Han har et stærkt kropsligt udtryk og den nonverbale kommunikation kommer godt udover scenekanten. Den enkle scenografi fungerer også godt. Smukt, næsten poetisk, vikles Kirchhoff bl.a. ind i gammeldags telefonledning og samler snart sagt alt på scenen omkring sig. Det er godt fundet på og virkelig fint forløst.

Dette til trods er der noget, der halter. Handlingen eller manglen på samme forbliver et fremmedgørende mysterium, og det vedbliver forestillingen igennem særdeles udfordrende at få mening ud af galskaben.

Mindre mystisk bliver det ikke, da et gammelt barndomsbillede dumper ind ad brevsprækken – vores ensomme mand har været lille og uskyldig engang, men denne version af fortiden er svær. Forvrænget ligefrem.

Og så har jeg ikke engang nævnt den livløse double af en robot, der som en anden klon ligner ham til forveksling. Den kommer sågar væltende ud af skabet. Her er lig i lasten i denne dystre fortid. Referencer til litteraturens dobbeltgængere står i kø.

’I put a spell on you’ brager ud af den gamle radio til deres absurde drukorgie – komplet med konfetti og frygtelige tømmermænd. Samværet bliver absurd.

Til slut giver det slet ikke mening at adskille de to. Menneske og maskine bliver ét, understreget effektivt da Kirchhoff med lysende robotøjne endelig slipper ud af den mærkelige 1960’er tidslomme.

På den måde slutter rejsen med en endegyldig afvisning af opdelingen imellem mand og maskine.

Teater der tør

Vi har med ’Det førerløse menneske’ for alvor at gøre med teater, der tør at gå nye veje, og den slags afkræver respekt. Samtidig er det en ejendommelig blanding af højpandet lavkomik, vi her er vidne til.

Undertegnede, en ganske teknik-begejstret anmelder, køber ikke nødvendigvis præmissen om teknik som en fremmedgørende faktor mellem mennesker, og smiler lidt af postulater fra programmet om, at ’det taktile jeg er i opløsning’ og at ’afstanden mellem vores kroppe bliver større og livet forstås gennem skærme'.

Det ændrer dog ikke på, at det stadig er et interessant udgangspunkt for vedkommende teater, så at forløsningen ikke fungerer bedre, end den trods alt gør, er derfor decideret ærgerligt.
