Trial By Combat - 2
Requested By: No One. Original Work.
CW: Impostor SAGAU, Mentions of Punishment, Angst,
Summary: Fontaine fears for your fate.
Note: You all really loved the first part and a lot of people wanted a continuation so I shall provide
If you haven’t finished the Fontaine Archon quest, please exit stage left.
Part One Part Three Part Four
Tumblr media
Ever since the day of the duel, it has been raining nonstop in Fontaine.
It was as if the entire nation came to a standstill; many shops refused to open their doors, no trials were being held, and the Hydro Archon hadn't been seen since she falsely accused the Creator of Teyvat.
As doctors quickly carried you away with Clorinde following quickly behind, citizens waited impatiently for any news of your recovery, this sight of you bleeding profusely still plaguing their minds.
The Champion Duelist refused to leave your side even after doctors did everything they could, she sat in the chair waiting for the moment you open your eyes. She wonders what you will do once you do wake up, could you find it in your heart to forgive her? To forgive Fontaine entirely? Regardless what you decide, she is ready to accept it graciously.
Clorinde looks down at her gloved hands, the white cloth that was stained with your golden blood only a week ago. This was the second time she had struck down an innocent, was this the justice she was fighting for? Even if it meant painting the floor with her Creator’s blood? She lets out a sigh as she looks back at your sleeping form, the pattering of rain on the window doing nothing to ease the swirl of emotions within her chest.
-
Although everyone was praying for you to have a speedy recovery, there were some people who demanded answers from their Archon.
“She is supposed to be the God of Justice.”
“How could she not recognize the Creator themselves?”
Focalors refused to show her face in public, she had no answers for her actions, this wasn’t something she could lie about until everyone believed her. This was something that could have true consequences, she couldn’t even be angry if her fellow Archons came to stike her down due to her transgressions.
Only during the dark of night is when she went outside, even though Clorinde had been watching over you this entire time, she had to see how you were doing with her own eyes. Furina kneels by your bed and grasps your hand, she weeps out heartfelt apologies until she couldn’t any longer.
Suddenly she picks her head up, she wipes the wetness from her cheeks as she looks at your face.
“Your Grace?” She says softly, the exaggerated tone no where to be found.
Your hand moves slightly in hers and now she knows she wasn’t hallucinating, “are you awake?” Your eyes open slowly causing the Archon to cry even more as she stands to look at you better.
The door to the room opens as Clorinde and Neuvillette enter, their eyes just as wide as their Archons. The two rush to your side as you try to sit up in bed a rush of pain coursing through your body.
“You should be careful Your Grace,” Clorinde mutters, “we don’t want you to tear open your stitches.”
“Why am I here?” You manage to rasp out gazing at all of their faces. Neuvillette grabs the glass of water next to your bed handing it to you, the water was room temperature, but it was still refreshing to drink.
Furina, who was the most expressive out of the three furrows her eyebrows, “huh? What do you mean?”
“I should’ve died out there..” you mumble. Clorinde looks down in shame.
“I’m apologize Your Grace,” Furina says still holding your hand, “I am a fool, I should’ve recognized you the second you entered Fontaine but instead I…” she trails off.
You stare at her, the look on her face showing just how remorseful she felt, but you couldn’t forgive her. You couldn’t forgive any of them. Not yet at least.
“You gave me no chance to explain myself, I was guilty in your eyes the second I entered your nation.” You pull your hand out of hers causing her to frown slightly.
“I thought that something was amiss but-“
“Then why didn’t you come to my defense? You knew there was no way I could win but you still did nothing. You made no attempt to stop the fight.” You interrupt Neuvillette.
He stops mid-sentence, his nonchalant expression never changing as he fails to meet your gaze. “I’m sorry.”
You throw the blanket off your body, the cold air causing goosebumps to appear on your exposed legs.
“Your Grace it’s not a good idea to stand! Your wounds are still healing.”
You ignore Clorinde’s warnings as you stumble to your feet, your hand rests on your torso to ease the throbbing sensation in it.
“All of you leave, I don’t want to talk to anyone right now.” You say coldly.
“Please allow us to help you back in bed.” Furina reaches out to place her hand on your shoulder.
“I can take care of myself, just get out.” You snap.
The Archon flinches slightly but she nods and sighs. Without any other objections, Clorinde and Neuvillette leave the room. Furina trails slowly behind them, as she reaches the threshold she looks back at you one last time before whispering, "I will return to see you in the morning, I hope that's okay."
Once the door clicks you turn your gaze to the window noticing that it was still raining, maybe even harder than before. You exhale as you sit on the windowsill resting your body against the glass as you watch the droplets race down onto the ledge outside.
‘Hmm, doesn't look like the rain is gonna stop anytime soon…’ you think to yourself.

Things that bother me about Dragon Age: The Veilguard part 3 (final thoughts)
I have finally finished the playthrough. I endured because I wanted to give this game a fair chance. I wanted to see it from start to finish in the hopes it would deliver something, anything capable of redeeming it. But it just didn't. Or more precisely, not in a way sufficient to make its flaws easy to overlook. These are my closing impressions on the game. I have already done two posts about this in which I documented my observations and comments as I progressed. I will link the posts here: Part 1, Part 2.
Let's finish this ride for now.
!Spoilers below the cut!
The music
I don't know what the direction of the music was meant to take. When it was announced Hans Zimmer would compose the OST I had high hopes. Hans Zimmer is a houshold name in Hollywood and skilled at what he does. I listened to a number of movie OSTs of his making and they were all excellent. So what happened here?
The music sounds generic most of the time without a clear theme or a unique piece that got me searching for it on youtube.
The main theme has sort of a recognizable composition but isn't anything outstanding. Emmrich's theme sounds like a halloween piece written for Wednesdsy Adams and the rest of the OST seems to mimic Trevor Morris' work for DA:I, namely the Lost Temple and In Hushed Whispers themes, but without the emotional impact the original pieces created.
It's as someone has already pointed out and I agree: Bioware has bought the name Hans Zimmer but not his quality. It sounds like he didn't even seriously create something but half heartedly whipped something out of his sleeve and called it a day.
The facial animations
The main problem with these is they often don't fit the emotions the VAs are communicating.
The VAs actually did a fantastic job. The scene that touched me the most was the one Rook confronts Solas in after they escape the regret prison in the fade. That was the first time Rook felt involved, raw and real.
But what broke the atmosphere in an otherwise flawless scene was how unmoving their facial expression was. There was the VA shouting their lung out and the animation couldn't even give half a fuck about it.
I don't even see an excuse for this lack of facial animation. It was possible to do since DA:O, hell, even since the first Mass Effect back in '07. Why is it not possible in the year of our Lord 2024, when technology is presumably better?
The handholding of the player
The plot is tightly paced. This is not necessarily a bad thing as I didn't really like the Open World approach of DA:I since it stretched the main plot too thinly and the maps created weren't filled with interesting side content but boring and pointless fetch quests.
But Veilguard went into the opposide extreme as it leaves only little room for the player when and how to do things. The quests are activated and must be completed in a specific order. They have also only one outcome without room to make different decisions.
Rook can never be truly ruthless. They can never disagree and butt heads with their companions.
And I hate how on the side of the screen the game exactly tells you what you have done and how it affects your companions' behaviour. It doesn't bake it into the interaction organically. Instead it has yet again, explained to me what I did and why it has this very specific effect without any of the characters discussing it. But the beauty of consequential decisions lies in the very unpredictability of its outcome. That's what creates the emotional impact. It doesn't work if I am being warned and explained to like a small child.
It's this lack of trust the game puts into the intelligence of its players that is so experience breaking, insulting even. It doesn't trust its players to figure stuff out themselves. It assumes we are too stupid to get any of the things it tries to tell us.
The ting is though, dear Bioware writers, if you think you have to overexplain your story because you think your audience won't get it then that's a telltale sign of the story being actually badly written.
Another area where this becomes appearant are the "puzzles". I used the quotation marks because there isn't really anything to solve. The solutions are obvious and at times your companions go out of their way to tell you.
The romances
Romances have always been a nice bonus on top of the otherweise amazing game content. They added some enjoyable extra fluff purely for enjoyment and some cases even deepened the main storyline.
In Veilguard they don't do that. In almost all of them the flirting is so meaningless that your cutscene with them just proceeds as if nothing happened.
There is no shift or change to their tone towards Rook. You don't build up the relationship with them. There is no last goodbye kiss before the last mission or passionate affirmations of love and trust. It just leaves you cold.
The only romance that seems to have that old depth is Emmrich's. The rest however, they don't add anything significant. There virtually is no difference to the game without the romances.
Companion relationships
Let's begin here with the simple fact that all deeper interactions Rook has with the companions are strictly scripted which ties back into the handholding part of this criticism. Rook cannot initiate a conversation and ask them some general questions about their histories and opinions on certain matters.
Rook only gets to interact with them when they happen to want something from them. Otherwise they cannot be bothered to acknowledge Rook with more than a one sided oneliner.
And then there are the relationships between the companions themselves. They either get along swimmingly or the game feels the need to stage some immature conflict between them without any deeper purpose.
Like Harding not understanding why Emmrich brings so many books on the road despite it literally not being any of her damn business bevause it doesn't personally affect her in any way.
Or Taash not understanding his profession as a Mournwatcher as they call him names so Rook has to point out Taash in turn likes dragons which is an interest he doesn't share only to culminate the discussion with a "We need to respect our differences" sort of statement.
These are not conflicts, these are squabbles of children and like children Roik talks to them which is brought ad absurdum with Emmrich because he is literally old enough to be Rook's father.
Why bother at all with writing conflict if it is only to be something as inconsequential as this?
Varric's death
This one is a .... choice.
I won't go into why the decision to let him die or not is good or bad because I feel like this is highly subjective.
However the impact of the reveal of this fact is only partly executed well.
Why?
Because it only hits hard when the player has known and cared about Varric at least since DA:I if not DA 2. The execution of this plotpoint thus relies too heavily on nostalgia instead of building the tension up within its own setting.
When thinking about Bioware also wanting to be newcomer friendly with this game I am left to wonder then why they didn't introduce Varric properly and didn't give the players time to build up the relationship? Why would a new player care about Varric? They don't know him.
Bioware cannot in good conscience claim they designed the game to be new player friendly while simultaniously heavily relying on knowledge from previous games, dlcs, comics, novels and other spin-off media. They cannot claim this and have anything but DATV do the heavy lifting when it comes to executing their plot.
The final mission
For my final point I also want to lose some positive feedback about this game.
The ending was actually well written.
In relation to Solas it comes full circle. You can actually feel what's at stake and the decisions Rook makes actually matter.
The final questline roughly follows a Mass Effect 2 approach where it is classified as nothing short of a suicide mission.
Companion quests essentially function as loyalty missions and Rook gets to assign various posts in battle. Just like in Mass Effect 2 assigning a companion a post completely outside of their expertise may get them killed.
The dialogue is actually written well at this point in the game. There isn't really much to complain about.
But even this part is not entirely without faults.
For one I don't like the non negotiable sacrifice that has either to be made by Harding or Davrin. Rook doesn't even get a chance to save any of them. But again these non negotiable companion deaths where you only make the choice who's it's going to be isn't anything new (i.e. Hawke and whatever Warden you happen to get, Kaidan/Ashley in ME 1). So maybe a bit if a bummer but nothing experience breaking.
A stronger point however is that Rook will always keep the Veil intact in the end.
I suppose this outcome already is part of the game title itself but was it necessary to take it so literally?
With everything the elves have lost and the discrimination they faced it should absolutely have been an option to agree with Solas and tear the Veil down.
But since we don't talk about racism and slavery I guess Rook doesn't reflect on these points either. So I guess keeping the Veil intact is in line with the game's general sanitization of the world.
So in conclusion?
The game is far from great, not gonna lie. It feels like the devs actually wanted a new IP but were too afraid of the risks that come with such an endeavor and thought gutting an existing franchise that already did the heavy lifting of building a fanbase and using it as a package would save their ideas from flopping. Surely no one will notice it is actually something else if we market it as Dragon Age, right?
But we are not that stupid. This behaviour is insulting to put it plain and simple and I am heartbroken, angry and said that this was done to Dragon Age. I wanted to love this game. I was optimistic before the release. Everything looked fine, nothing in particular to worry about.
But I cannot continue to defend this without breaking my basic brain function.
The most frustrating part is that with the ending the devs showed they can write a story and meaningful dialogues. It left me wondering why it couldn't be done like this for the rest of the game and living with the reality that I will never get what this game could have been.
All in all this is not a good Dragon Age game. It is a massive disappointment and does not live up to the promises made by the devs.
I am sorry for everyone who preordered.
I am sorry for everyone who paid the full release price.
Nominating it for Game of the Year is not justified no mattee how you look at it.
If you are genuinely enjoying the game, I hope you continue to do so and all power to you.
For the rest: let's stop excusing Bioware's disrespect towards the fans and enabling them by paying them too much money for it.
Don't buy at release. Don't buy spin off media. Wait for sales. These people only understand the problem when you give them a good run for their money.

Veilguard had some misses with the writing of characters and banter and presented a very sanitized version of Thedas with little to no conflicts but everyone should play the game until the very end.
The main story is really good and the final beat - it was Bioware at its finest. It left me crying for two hours on the couch. Dialogue on the main story is stellar; the cinematics are phenomenal, the animations are so expressive, voice over is delivering a lot of emotions and the amount of time I invested in all the companions and side quests is 100% rewarded. During the game I felt like I couldn’t connect with some of the companions but in the end? I was there!! They were my crew!!!! And I wouldn’t have wanted anyone else by my side.
People can say many things and with some I can nod along but the finale - that was a love letter for Thedas. No doubts!
After finishing this game I can fully say I am in love with it, imperfect as it is and I look forward to revisiting it again and again as I often do with all the other Dragon Age games.

@jolapeno is encouraging us all to list the favorite things we've made this year. And @sixhours and @jeewrites are superlative humans and they have tagged me and I am grateful for that!
I'm not gonna lie, y'all. When I'm asked to reflect on what I've created in the fandom this year...well, "depressed" is a word I could use.
But. It's been such a lovely year in the fandom. We were treated to a Fox, a Roman general, a boy-who-never-grew-up, and a penis collector, not to mention the promise of a very flexible scientific-genius wifeguy and sneak peeks of everyone's favorite melancholy apocalypse survivor.
Thank you to everyone who was helping us keep a lookout for nasty folks and helping to combat deplorable behaviors, and thank you to everyone who did their part keeping spirits bright.
And I will be forever grateful for @pedroscouts and @pedrosummercamp ...it literally gave me something to focus on when my days were running away from me and introduced me to some really sassy and hilarious new friends. <3
Still. 2024 put me through a professional and emotional wringer. So. Here's what I'm gonna do. I'm gonna list my wins. First, we'll start with what Jo asked for!
PEDRO PASCAL CHARACTER FANFICTION
Okay. So the rules said it had to be a finished project. Playing by the rules, I would have nothing to post. Nothing. Zero. Zilch. Poop. So, in the interest of choosing joy, breaking the rules it is!
Fluffbruary Six-Sentence Ficlets - multiple I tried, y'all. I tried real hard. I got through 15! And I was making a new header for each one! And then life got real busy and I had to stop. But I have every prompt assigned and I decided I'm gonna reblog the first half and post the second half this February. I know they're not a popular series, but they make me happy, so they're getting doing!
Leave Off Your Wandering - Joel Technically, I did finish this one, since I had always planned for it to be just the four parts. But at the end of the Winter chapter, I realized it needed an epilogue, so there's another chapter coming. And it's not far off. I may finish it before the end of the year and then it will really not be a lie. But first.....
That Awooo Inside You (Part 1, Part 2) - Fink This may not qualify yet, but the final chapter will be finished before the end of the year. I have it half written and there's a chapter pic ready to go. Proof:
Tumblr media
.
And that's mainly it. I did write some pieces for @morallyinept's spooky moodboards as well and really enjoyed that! But that's been what I've been able to do. So to combat the whomp whomp in my heart about it, I include here another list after the tags.
tagging! @katareyoudrilling @secretelephanttattoo @fromthedeskoftheraven @goodwithcheese @walkingaline
And you!
Your Favorite Things 2024 with Jo

A rivals desire 🌹
Non gender specific rival/lover✨
A little story inspired by the Wanderers ‘about us: rivals’ voiceline. In this story, reader is studying in Vahamuna with the Wanderer and is his only true academic rival. You and he are the only ones able to really challenge each others work. It will, of course, be set in Sumeru post it’s archon quest.
Mildly edited, apologies for mistakes🫶
——-
“So, you're still stewing over our run-ins from before? Huh. Well, what are you going to do about it? Take your time. I'm in no hurry.” The Wanderer scowled at you, referring to the time you helped thwart his plans to become a god.
“For the last time. No!” Your voice became faster and louder as you continued. “Unlike you, I can let things go!” You glared at him.
“If you aren’t out for revenge, then why would you rebuke my paper?!” He leaned closer as he waved your latest paper around. “Why else would you make a point of disputing every paper I submit?” His voice became quiet, full of venom with a touch of vulnerability.
“I rebuked your paper because it was short sighted. Same as all the others.” You told him. “Your takes on history and society are factually correct and full of potential, yes. But, you always fail to see the true story.” You say, slightly distracted by how close you stood to him. “You miss out the heart of everything by only focusing on the tangible parts. True insight comes from mixing the facts with the feelings that follow in their wake.” You explained, eyes flicking to the ground as you finished talking and realised how long you’d been maintaining eye contact.
When he didn’t reply, you returned his gaze again. He seemed to be lost in his mind, you could almost see the churning of waves behind his blue eyes.
“So you’re telling me, that to reach academic greatness I must tap into my emotions to find the heart of things?” He asked incredulously before scoffing. “You realise I don’t have a heart right?” He folded his arms and raised a brow as he spoke. His words made you chuckle.
“The heart just pumps blood around a body. The brain is where all thoughts and feelings lie….surely you have one of those don’t you?” You smirked.
“Yes. Very funny.” He deadpanned. You rolled your eyes.
“Well, if we’re done here?” You gestured to the path you were on your way down before he interrupted your journey.
“Wait!” He grabbed your wrist as you began to turn away. “If you think you know so much, then show me. Show me how to achieve ‘true insight’.”
You deliberated his request for no where near long enough, given the task it would be to get this man to view society in a sympathetic way.
“Fine. Lesson one. Tell me one emotion you are familiar with feeling.” You looked expectantly, assuming he would give you an immediate answer. After mulling it over he opened his mouth..and then closed it again, before finally speaking.
“Desire.”
“Good! That’s good, you can tap into that. Think of something you want and go after it. Study that feeling. Then when you succeed, focus on how you feel when you get whatever it is you want and it will lead you to another emotion to study.“
“This is ridiculous. Talking about feelings to better writing, how warped.” He grumbled.
“You sound like Azar.” You shook your head at him, remembering the former grand sage.
“Don’t compare me to that old fool!” Offence tainted the Wanderer’s words. “I am nothing like that failure. I am better.” His breath fanned your face as he argued with you.
“Then stop acting like him and prove it! I wouldn’t ‘make a point’ of challenging you all the time if I didn’t believe you could be brilliant.” You exclaimed. His eyes darted around your face as he seemed to freeze. You watched him wade through his mind, slowly you could see his soul becoming clearer in the distance. You had lost yourself in his eyes and possibly would have stayed that way for eternity if he hadn’t grabbed your cheeks, shocking you back to reality. He almost looked as confused as you, before pressing his lips to yours.
Your eyes widened as the space between you closed, but when his fingers started stroking your cheek as he kissed you, you couldn’t help but melt. Your hands wrapped around the back of his neck and you let yourself fall into the kiss. You swore you could feel him smile right before he pulled away.
“Peace.” He spoke as he rested his forehead on yours. “The fruition of my desire leads to peace.”

Thank you for reading 🌹

Character analysis on Prince Sidon (BOTW vs TOTK)
One thing I love about totk is how the game addresses Sidon’s trauma.
In botw you see how desperate he is for his father’s approval, it’s like Mipha set an impossible standard for dying not only for her domain and her people but for the whole kingdom of Hyrule. In their father’s eyes, she’s the perfect child, not only in personality but also in the way she’s honoured her family. Sidon sees how his father thinks of her, and although the king doesn’t do it consciously, he always put her on an impossibly high pedestal, and Sidon grew up believing that he HAD to meet that expectation, and that he would never, no matter how hard he tried.
When Link tames Vah Ruta and they both go to see the king, he tells his son:
“As your father, I am proud of you for fighting the Divine Beast alongside Link. You have grown much recently. I know you will be a worthy heir when your time comes.”
Then Sidon bows his head, as if he’s overcome with emotions because his dad tells him he’s proud of what he’s accomplished. King Dorephan isn’t a bad guy, don’t get me wrong, but the grief of losing his daughter (in this case, he thought she went missing and had been in the DB for 100 years, he didn’t know she died) made him sort of lose sight of Sidon’s achievements in those 100 years because he was so racked with worry and guilt. So although the king isn’t a bad father, he fails to reassure his son that he doesn’t need to do anything to make him proud (even though Sidon had definitely done stuff to make his dad proud over the years).
(Btw im pretty sure tripple digits in age is considered teens or early adulthood for Zora, so he’s still pretty young, I imagine around Link’s age if he were Hylian)
But that’s about all we get in botw.
So now we move on to totk. And oh boy do we get a load of Sidon angst. Some people might disagree with me but having read between the lines of what Lady Yona talked about (and just WHAT she actually said) in the first half of the water temple quest (before we find it, when we’re up in Mipha court), it really is angsty.
She’s aware of the fact that his sister’s death affected him a lot and still does despite knowing that her spirit moved on, and it (at this point) has started to affect their relationship.
Yona and Sidon have a disagreement before/after the battle with the Sludge Like, where they argue about him going with Link to this pillar of light that has suddenly appeared. It starts with Sidon saying: “Lady Yona! It is far too dangerous for you to be here” in reference to the sludge, but she has none of that.
She tells him that she wants him to go to the pillar with Link, and that: “For a long time, I have been concerned that you are holding yourself back and not acting as freely as I would have expected.” This has some credit because it’s mentioned somewhere how they were both childhood friends, and the Zora live long lives so it’s safe to assume their childhood is prolonged, which means that they’ve known each other for a very long time. Yona knows how he acts and behaves, his mannerisms and his fears, and that’s why she wants to push him to face them.
She tells him that if he goes with Link they’ll be able to overcome this problem, but he hesitates. She notices, asking him what is troubling him, and he hesitates again to speak what’s on his mind. This is when the Sludge Like comes in, and after the battle, the conversation continues.
Sidon hurries back to Yona and says: “Thank goodness. Lady Yona, if something had happened to you... I...” and there’s where it becomes clear just how terrified he is of losing her. He doesn’t finish the sentence, though, he changes the subject and tells her that she should go back to the domain in case more monsters show up. She tells him that he should focus on what Link said and that he can leave the court to them (Yona and the others that came with her). Sidon replies with: “W-well... Of course it would be best for me to accompany him. However, I cannot leave you alone in this dangerous place!” He’s ignoring what’s best and instead focusing on the safety of his betrothed, because of course he would! A monster just showed up and it took both Link and Sidon to take it down, imagine if neither of them were with her, what would happen? What would he do if she got hurt? And then the following dialogue happens (you dont need to read the whole thing, you can just skip to the bold parts):
Yona: “Did you not entrust this task to us already? We will not be on our own for long. We shall be just fine.”
Sidon: “But…”
Yona: “Sidon, my darling... I truly appreciate that you worry so for my safety. It speaks to the kindness in your heart.
But you are the prince of the Zora. One day, you will lead the people of your beloved domain.
I can see right through you, whether you want me to or not. You are yielding to the fear of losing someone you love again.
You must overcome your past and face whatever the future holds with courage.”
Sidon: “But... I...”
Yona: “Enough is enough! You are not acting like yourself! You must leave this place to me!
Sweet Sidon... Do not get lost in the past. You must keep moving ever onward. Just follow your heart, as you always do!”
Sidon: “Like my old self... Like I always do...”
Yona: “It is all right. I swear it. I am not going anywhere.”
Sidon: “I see... And there it is, clear as day... I was giving in to my fear of once more losing someone I love... I… I…
You are right, Yona! I will not give in to this fear! Nor forsake my trust in you! I leave this place to you, my love.”
[skip]
Yona: “All this time he was clinging to regret over being unable to save his precious sister, Mipha... My poor, tormented Sidon.
And to think he was unknowingly paralyzed from taking action because he feared losing me as well...
Yet he has overcome this trial and placed his faith in me. At last, the Sidon I know and love has come back to me.”
During this conversation, Sidon hesitates more than once and you can see it starting to irritate Yona because she knows the potential he doesn’t see in himself, because it’s not just fear of losing a loved one, but it’s his own insecurity from not being able to save Mipha.
He doesn’t care that he was very young and wouldn’t have been able to anyway, he just cares that he couldn’t. In his eyes, he failed to save his sister. And I’m not going to go too deep into this point but it’s clear that she was playing both older sister and mother, because we can assume their mother died a while back (she’s never mentioned and it’s just the two of them and their father even as far back as age of calamity if you want to include that).
What I’m saying is that with technically both the loss of his mother and his sister, it’s safe to assume that he feels some sort of responsibility for not being able to help, even if he was too young to do so, his disregard for the age he was at the time shows how much weight was left on his shoulders after Mipha died.
He never expected to be the heir to the throne, the sole survivor of his family (along with his dad), sure he’s a prince and princes have responsibility, but Mipha was always going to be in the spotlight (not that I’d imagine him jealous of this, it’s simply just a fact, and I think he might have actually even been comfortable with that), she was always going to be the Zora Champion and then Queen one day, so to have all of that suddenly dumped on him after the calamity as a literal kid would’ve undoubtedly had its effect on him.
Yona understands this, she tells Link, knowing he’s probably caught on, how he was “clinging to regret over being unable to save his precious sister, Mipha...”.
She has to reassure her love that she’s okay. “It is all right. I swear it. I am not going anywhere.”, she comforts him because she knows he needs it, he needs her to say it to him because that’s the only way he will believe she is in fact okay.
But his character develops. Sidon realises that in fearing for Yona, he has made her feel as if she isn’t trusted. He recognises the position he’s put them both in, him worrying relentlessly and stressing out about his loved ones because of his trauma, and her having to watch him fall down this never ending rabbit hole and being unable to do much about it because all he tries to do is shelter and protect her, even when it’s unnecessary.
But she does what she can anyway, and it pays off, because he comes back to reality and understands that although there will always be the risk of losing her, he knows that she is more than capable of taking care of herself. He knows of her strength, it was just hard for him to see the situation from her point of view. But she pushes him to do so, and he betters himself for her.
I think he’ll always have some small hint of this trauma response hidden away, but after this discussion, he’s got a firm hold on it, and is willing to control his fears for the love of his life so that they can start to build a life together without the sense of utter doom and despair over his past looming over them both.
I’m glad the writers did this, and didn’t just make them seem like this perfect couple with no issues, it shows a real and healthy relationship, and it shows that Sidon isn’t this perfect person and that he indeed has faults of his own.
That’s my take on it, anyway.

Here We go again Bellarke warriors, if you can hear me, it's been about 1680 days since I stopped caring (or so I thought)
I hadn't been to tumblr in years, before I decided to give the 100 a rewatch in June of this year, as I had given up somewhere around the start of season 5 (I remember hating the LONG ass timeskip teased at the end of S4, I guess some other media must have swallowed me during hiatus, and when I tried to give that season a chance I vividly remember 1) I couldn't see shit on my screen 2) I hated what the timeskip did to the established relationships) and so I dropped it for good, looking back I almost can't believe I could just...not finish it like that because let me tell you I did NOT fuck about Clarke and Bellamy, and Raven, and Monty, and probably some other characters back in 2015-2016. I think I maybe did not appreciate season 4 enough at the time it was airing (because I think binge-watching is very flattering for that season, watching it live I remember it was frustrating to watch the characters go on side quests in 4A) but now knowing what the character arcs are and where it was going makes it my second-favorite season. BUT, I digress, wow. This is meant to be a rambling, incohisive love letter to the compelling relationship between Bellamy and Clarke. I warn you, they truly do not fucking leave you as it turns out. I would go to the trenches for them back in my fandom days in 2015-17, and I realised, after binge-waching the show over 4 sleepless nights (seasons 1-6, which are the only seasons in existence, obviously)that I STILL just FUCKING CARE SO MUCH. I NEVER CARED ABOUT FICTIONAL CHARACTERS SO MUCH AS CARE FOR THESE TWO SEPARATELY, AND AS SOULMATES. Because let me tell you, Clarke and Bellamy, they fucking love each. Like actual, happens-only-in-romances LOVE. It is frankly INSANE how JRoth, K*m Shum and other managed to gaslight me over some of the bellarke scenes in S2-S3 as to make me think it's in my (and thousand's of fans') head WHEN IT IS SO FUCKING OBVIOUS FROM SCORE, EDITING CHOICES, LONGING LOOK SHOTS, HANDS SHOTS, LINES, AND FINALLY, ACTING AND DIRECTION THAT THESE TWO ARE LOVERS.
I have never, ever, before or since, followed two characters who were so compatible, so equal, so trusting in each other, so open with one another, so mindful of the other's emotions and needs, so so so made for each other, that it is no surprise to me that they are top 10 F/M pairing on AO3. Because Bellamy and Clarke would fall in love in every imaginable scenario, in every universe, across time. I am not usually that cheesy or cringy, but it is true. I could not put my finger on why they are my absolute favorite to read fanfic for and then it occurred to me. That as long as the hands of fate put these two in proximity of each other, it;s a done deal. That chemistry transcends the limits of a single tv show. The depth with how Clarke and Bellamy love each other honestly makes me pause for breath sometimes. It is not just the iconic, famous bellarke scenes, but also the quiet moments.
Like in 6x05 or 6x06 (cant remember) when Clarke's body was stolen by Josephine after her one-night stand with Cillian. (stay with me) Bellamy, unaware that Clarke isn't herself at that point, comes over to chat, he's clearly at least a bit jealous over her sleeping with Cillian, and yet he says "happiness looks good on you" with that wide, earnest smile. And just wow. How must he love her, to be so utterly happy for her own happiness that has in that instance nothing to do with him. so selfless. well, selfless is basically Bellamy's middle name.
Or how in season 4, after a lot of the characters and at times the narrative wanted to push this idea on Clarke that she is the sole leader of her people, gets right back on track to her co-leader dynamic with Bellamy, constantly checking with him, considering his input, and respecting choices that she herself would maybe not make (releasing the ensalved arkadians and grounders vs ensuring they get a machine necessary to generate water) but always understanding that these choices agree with his core values, and she loves him for it.
This post is way too long. I love Bellamy. I love Clarke. People often use the 'MY PARENTS" about ships on twitter, and you know what, in my case that's kinda true with bellarke. I met these characters when I was 15. I am 25 now, and with an adult perspective to my surprise I found their relationship even more profound then I remembered, and I was insanse about them already. They are truly THE power couple of all time. I miss the 100, If you wanna ramble about it together, feel welcome to send me ask, I'd love to have an excuse to share some of my (sometimes unpopular) opinions lol.

General Disclaimer! Spoiler Warning for 2.1 story quest!!
Hello!! Oki oki with that warning out of the way, Here's my request: Caelus,Jing Yuan and Aventurine reacting to the player crying during the 2.1 quest.
I mean as the quest progresses the sadder the player gets. Besides Aventurines whole backstory, what really makes player crumble is how they relate to Aventurines plight. Just being so tired, constant survive mode, the desire to end it.
Eventually player just pauses just to cry saying "you son of a.... Aventurine.. *sniffles **sobs* me too.. *sniffles* me too..." before collecting themselves after crying a bit to completing the quest, relating to Aventurine a bit too much.
(and at the end as he walks towards the black hole, player says "My Kakavasha,, ill see you soon")
If youre uncomfy feel free to decline! Thank you in advance :)
Notes: Hi Shiromayyyy, I apologize for the long wait! I hope you don’t mind me adding my own little spin on this. I’m also sorry that it’s a little on the shorter side, but I do hope you enjoy it! I really loved writing this request :>
Masterlist
I struggle to contain the brimming enthusiasm that threatens to overflow, anxiously waiting for Honkai Star Rail to finish loading. I thoroughly enjoyed the previous quest in Penacony and played it until the late hours of the night on the day of release. I can only imagine where the storyline will head.
Albeit, I’m still feeling apprehensive about certain characters, namely Aventurine and Sparkle. I understand there’s clearly more to be shown about these two, but the way Aventurine presents himself honestly irks me to the core. I simply hate people who behave the way he does, and I truly do not see myself ever liking his character. Of course things could change, but well…
With a sigh, I dismiss such troublesome thoughts from my mind. My eyes light up with uncontained delight as the game finally loads and I find myself back in Penacony. It’s time to see what this quest has in store!
── .✦
Oh.
I’m sure my face reflects my conflicting emotions; my heart lurches at the revelations being presented to me. Aventurine’s backstory is truly heartbreaking. I was adamant about my distaste for Aventurine previously, as I even discarded the free lightcone I received with his face on it, but now I can’t help but feel swayed.
I pout as I click for the dialogue to continue. I can’t believe I’m actually relating to Aventurine… and how tragic his story is. Living through such an experience is truly… atrocious.
As the story goes on, my mood takes a nosedive. I find myself relating more than I’d like to Aventurine; the constant survival mode, being so tired of life’s unfortunate circumstances, and just wanting to end it all..
My eyes tear up as Aventurine, or I should say Kakashava, bends down to be at eye level with his younger self, a black void serves as an ominous backdrop for their important conversation.
My feelings slowly build to a breaking point and I’m forced to pause the dialogue. I fail to detain the tears that threaten to escape my eyes, and a sorrowful sob slips past my lips. "You son of a.... Aventurine.. I can’t..” It all feels a bit too much, so I allow myself this moment to cry and collect myself.
Honestly, these feelings I harbor for Aventurine surprise me. I never would’ve imagined myself relating to him as much as I do, but here I am.
I take a few deep breaths and calm myself before finishing this touching cutscene. As Aventurine walks off into the black hole, I whisper "My Kakashava, I'll see you soon…”
I complete the rest of the quests for the story, enjoying every twist and turn the story provides. Penacony is easily my favorite storyline so far, and I can only imagine what else Honkai Star Rail will come up with!
⋆。˚ Aventurine’s Reaction ✧˚
Saying Aventurine feels startled is an understatement. He’s genuinely just so… surprised? He remembers you mentioning just how much you didn’t like him during the previous story quests. He didn’t mind, truly, since he’s been met with such scorn his whole life.
Yet, seeing the tears cascade down your face causes something to stir within him. He doesn’t entirely know what it is, yet he feels it. He can’t pinpoint a name for this feeling, but it’s there, and… it makes him feel alive.
It makes him feel significant, in what little way this may mean. And, oh- he struggles to control his facial expression as you bid him a farewell.
He feels conflicted; he understands opinions can change and that they’re valid, whether he agrees with it or not, but… well..
He feels that he just may like you more than he’s willing to admit.
。𖦹°‧ Caleus’ Reaction ୭ ˚. ᵎᵎ
As you run around penacony with him, eating ice cream cones and causing your usual havoc, he takes this opportunity to gather his thoughts.
He’s seen all sorts of reactions from you before, ranging from downright goofy expressions to one’s of allure and intrigue.
Yet, seeing you cry stirs feelings of turmoil within him. On one hand, he’s touched that you’re really enjoying his adventure’s and finding people you can connect with on a deep and personal level.
Nevertheless, it still pains him to hear the obvious pain in your voice as you speak to Aventurine.
He hopes that future stories bring out more positive feelings for you, and in the meantime he’s more than willing to engage in the many side quests you pick up for him to do.
Secretly, he loves hearing your laughter when his dialogue options appear, and the way your eyes shine brightly whenever you scroll to his character.
He’s become quite fond of you.
ᨐฅ Jing Yuan’s Reaction 𓏲 ๋࣭  ࣪ ˖
Jing Yuan finds your reactions to Penacony’s story line to be quite amusing in its own way. He’s thoroughly enjoyed tagging along as you discovered the hidden truths of the Planet of Festivities.
Although, he would’ve preferred if your tears were spared. He’s used to heartbreak and pain through his experience as the general on the Xianzhou Luofu, however it does not making witnessing it any less grievous.
Which is why he’s overjoyed as you begin to perk up, exploring the festivities Penacony has to offer the player. It’s entirely all too humorous when you hunch over in laughter at the interaction taking place on screen.
Many times he’s been shocked by something you’ve said or done; one time, an out of left field, wholly absurd comment left him utterly flabbergasted, yet he struggled to hold back tears of mirth all the while.
Jing Yuan enjoys seeing what choices and decisions you make as you play the game since your personality shines through each and every decision you make.
He can’t wait to make another appearance in the story, if only to see your elated smile of surprise as he appears on the screen. Oh, you have no idea just how charming you can be, and he’ll be damned if he doesn’t consider himself thoroughly enraptured by your charm.

I normally don't do discourse but, I've seen some floating around and I maybe have some relevant perspectives so here's my opinion on a thing:
so I am a hella subtext girlie. ships are always painful as fuck for me (in the good way) because give me breadcrumbs and I'm HOOKED I wanna eat that whole loaf crumb by crumb!! no ez mode. that's boring. I love a nice slow burn, I'll happily gnaw my way through 50 chapters of complicated setup and character development before they even meet (and like lol maybe this is actually the problem). And I love Lucanis's romance and I'm happy with his story, the writing and the way it progressed for the most part. I'm demi so I got it and that's all I'm gonna say on that point til a bit further down.
I STILL think that the way it was handled doesn't work well with the pacing of the game, and I don't think that's down to the writing, I think it's mostly the way the game story progression was designed. I think this is true to some degree for all the romances because there's no interactivity outside of quest cutscenes and the ambient dialogue that happens right after the commitment scene. But especially for Lucanis because to me their romance is in the little details, the every day interactions as their relationship slowly deepens. That's obviously done really well in the cutscenes we get, but feels like it makes less sense in the scope of the whole story because there are a whole bunch of in-between pieces missing.
If you're going to finish everything there is to do by the end of the game, a huge chunk of the time that you spend doing quests is completely devoid of any reference to your romance. I feel like especially for Lucanis and Rook more ambient dialogue between them would have made it feel more natural and substantial, especially especially if they are both Crows. For example, the way it's handled between Taash and Harding/Lucanis and Neve feels much smoother and the development is more overt. I think being that those happen more toward the end of the game, there feels like more of a natural character development-relationship development progression as you go through their individual quests.
Like, 2-3 lines of additional unique dialogue peppered throughout the lead-up to endgame after the romance is locked in with Lucanis would have vastly improved it and helped bridge the gap, I feel. And I'm not necessarily talking about romantic interactions, just some unique dialogue to show how well they've come to know each other, how Rook understands his mind and that it helps them build trust, any sort of communication to illustrate the subtler ways they're building their bond. It's clear from Lucanis's journal that they're intended to be spending a decent chunk of their off-time together--so why is there little to no evidence of it in game other than the initial reference? There's no reactivity from Teia and Viago, which made me sad because theirs is the reaction I'd want to see the most. I've gotten lines from Neve and Taash about the romance after it's locked in, and the convo with Emmrich about gifts, but that's it as far as other companions go. Maybe there's stuff I'm missing? Maybe this is something lacking in all the romances.
And honestly as a demi person the final romance scene kinda came out of left field for me. considering it felt like not much communication had been happening leading up to it (minus the pre-endgame convo, which I'm also gonna mini-argue should be more explicit with the emotions involved from Rook's end, like the spanish translation) and understandably a lot has been going on. but I wasn't really expecting it to escalate the way it did with so little dialogue, I'm fine with it but this is one of those cases where I prefer less subtext and more text before something like that happens, actually.
I did a replay where I saved Lucanis's quests until last and that honestly felt a lot better, so maybe the pacing's just a me problem idk. I'm gonna chalk a lot of this stuff up to cut content? and maybe like, the fact that they didn't want to get too specific with Rook's ambient dialogue since they're meant to be player-driven. Going back to the companion romance comparison, it's a lot easier to write dialogue between two characters who are more specifically defined.
Anyway blah blah that's it. i'm nitpicking because overall I'm happy, so anything i feel doesn't work or is lacking is gonna be a gripe, and you can be happy and still have valid criticisms. I enjoyed the game and the writing and the characters quite a lot, and I honestly wasn't expecting to, so yay! Time to gnaw on that subtext and see what kinda creative juice comes out~

Not a question but I just want to say that I absolutely love this game series. I was never one for romance games but when i discovered all the stuff on hosted games and what not i started to get interested. I only really focused on the sex scenes though, the actual romance was nice but I prefered reading people getting it down. But recently reading the Wayhaven books changed that.
I played through Morgan's path first and having now finished all the current books, I have to say that I love it so much. The sex scenes were nice but I think more about the little side quests and events from going around town and talking with her a lot more interesting. Just seeing the PC's and Morgan's relationship turn from a purely physical one to realising each one has feelings for the other honestly is so heatwarming to see. It's a bit embarrassing to say this but I have gotten so attached to her character that it feels like I'm cheating if I go after any other RO in any other game. Which is a bit of a shame because I really want to try out Nat's path as well.
I think some of the reason why I adore the romance in these games is because other games don't really focus on the small parts such as body language to show that these two are intersted in each other. And a lot of the romantic events don't feel 'romantic' in other games- they just feel purely sexual. I don't really feel that in Wayhaven. Yes Morgan is clearly very thirsty and always wanting sex, but thats mainly in the first two games. In the 3rd I love how the game focuses more on their relationship as a whole, as the detective makes Morgan open up about her feelings with the many events we can have one on one with her.
Anyway that's enough from me, sorry for the long read. I know there is a long time to go until this happens, but I am already dreading the day this whole series ends, as I am already missing the whole of Unit Bravo's antics :( .
Aah, what an incredible message!
And yay for getting into the romance of the series! That's why I'm writing it, after all ;D
The physical scenes are indeed fun, but real connection can extend so much deeper than that. Sometimes the emotional stuff comes before and sometimes it comes later and other times it happens at the same time! That's why it's fun writing all the love interests as they all have different speeds at which can progress.
But yeah, M got the feels a looong time ago, but now they're actually starting to realise it...and that's gonna be real fun to write, hehe! :D
Thank you so much for this amazing message! You have no idea how much it made me smile <3

In summary: I am in graduate school and don’t have as much time for drawing/writing as I did previously.
Following some recent comments, I realized that some followers are interested in a more detailed update on the status of my creative projects. I wanted to offer an explanation to those curious, as I often like knowing what my favorite creators are working on.
---
What follows is a summary of my active projects and their status; they are ordered alphabetically rather than in order of importance:
City of Medusa: A semi-modern retelling of the story of Perseus and Medusa becoming friends, emphasizing that both were victims of circumstance. -- This project is canceled. The first draft was completed, but the story felt too personal and emotional to tell, focusing heavily on themes of depression and mental illness. I would have made myself depressed while fleshing it out as a comic.
Daughters of the Sea: Focusing primarily on the protagonist, Photine, this story is of several teenage protagonists (and one villain) who find magical rings that imbue them with the power of the Greek god Poseidon. The two groups fight over personal drama, and who will unite the rings to become Poseidon’s heir. -- This project is inactive. I would like the prose series to be a trilogy, but I am stuck on the second book's ending.
Juno’s Legacy: The story of a young woman who discovers that she’s the reincarnation of an ancient, immortal warlord. She travels the universe while trying to establish her role in a series of interplanetary nations that have gone on 1,000 years after her death. This world is filled with allies and enemies who have a variety of opinions of who she was and who she should be. -- This project is semi-active. I am several drafts into the first book, but I keep putting this project on the back burner.
Maite: The story is set in the Late Greek Bronze Age, during a period of armistice in the mythological Titanomachy War. A young woman partially raised by Athena discovers that her father was an Ancient Greek Titan. After running away from her home, she sets out on a quest to discover who her father is. -- This project is semi-active. Currently, the comic is in its first draft of the script. I am not 100% sure I will pursue this project, but I will make my decision after I wrap up Our New Hope.
Our New Hope: A comic-format fanfiction of the Skywalker twins discovering their identities in their teen years (12-14) thanks to Ahsoka Tano and Darth Vader entering their lives. -- This comic is on hiatus. I had planned to finish this before leaving for graduate school, but my laptop broke, so I wasn’t able to work on it anymore. I hope to finish this project after completing my one-year program.
Resurrection OCT: An Original-Character Tournament around the theme of winning a flower that can return one individual from the dead. This is my only active project on the list. I help judge and moderate this community. If you’d like to follow the story, check out the canon reading guide I made on TVTropes.
---
As a final announcement: I am aware my art is slowing down. I’ve decided to queue up some of my old works.  If you don’t want to see these “re-runs” just blacklist the tag “OonaLuna reblog.” Once I’m done my graduate school program, I will resume my old hobby. You will still see a handful of new posts, as I haven’t totally given up drawing.

Almighty TATTRPGFT, I ask you what is a good fantasy ttrpg thats like a smidgen simpler than/tighter than dnd thats flexible and has individual character progression thats cool? (I am so damn tired of dnd and after I finish my lancer campaign I'm gonna try to run a fantasy thing thats about world hopping since my brain cant stick with just one world... I wanted to run OSR stuff but most of my players want to keep their characters longer than a couple sessions)
THEME: World-hopping Fantasy Games
Hello there, so I’ve got some world-hopping games for you that I consider all much simpler than D&D, although the way they cater to your players’ wants may vary. Now I’m personally biased towards Forged-in-the-Dark games if your characters want to hold onto their characters and explore all of their mechanical and narrative details, but I’m also hoping that folks will see this ask and suggest more fantasy games that give you cool character abilities - maybe you can even mesh some regular fantasy games with something else on this list!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Portal Rats, by Tore Nielsen.
Portal Rats is a stand-alone fantasy tabletop rpg, based on the Black Hack rules.
There is an unlimited wealth of worlds out there. Some are embodiments of ideals, some the product of a god's fevered will, and some who seem to have congealed from pure potential. In Portal Rats you can visit all of them.
The core mechanic of Portal Rats is a roll-below test, using a d20 against an attribute on your character sheet. You have six attributes that should remind your players of D&D, although the backgrounds of your characters are less about your race and more about what you did in the past. The rules of the game look to be pretty concise, with much of the 58-page book being different character options and character classes. You level up when you finish a mission or quest, which results in more hit points, and higher attributes.
This game is probably close to what you as a GM are looking for: it’s an OSR mindset, with very little that allows the players to hold onto their characters if a roll goes badly. That being said, if your players are attached to their characters, they might be able to bring out emotional and narrative elements regardless of the system. Therefore, even if you pick up something that is more similar to OSR, they’ll find ways to role-play.
Vergence, by Small Cool Games.
Within the multiverse are a few places of great power called Vergences. They are ruled by families bred for the ability to open portals between worlds.
You play a member of one of these empowered bloodlines. Your birthright gives you the capacity to travel across infinite dimensions and manipulate reality.
But you’ll need to deal with conflicts involving your own powerful and manipulative family, secret conspiracies, mystical enemies, moldering gods, terrifying monsters, ancient artifacts, and existential threats with the potential to affect all the worlds of the Umbra. And possibly your annoying little sister…
Vergence is a Forged-in-the-Dark game that really amps up your character’s powers and broadens the stakes to a cosmic scale. Vergence is a much looser interpretation of Blades, taking away much of the bookkeeping found in the vice and heat mechanics that punish typical Blades’ characters. You also level up as a group, rather than individually, which I understand might not be what your playgroup is looking for, but your characters are still uniquely powered individuals with special abilities.
1400 Planes, by Unknown Dungeon.
1400 Planes is lo-fi hi-fantasy.
The multiverse roils with boundless existence. For many, the infinite planes of creation drift past at an immeasurable distance, their alien secrets perpetually out of reach. However those who break their mortal shackles and cross that liminal space, wander such exotic spheres on an eternal pilgrimage.
1400 Planes is a stand-alone table-top RPG. The rules are short and easy to learn and the whole game can fit on a single sheet of paper.  It can be played using just the rules provided, or combined with other entries in the 1400 series to expand the world and provide more character and game options.
24XX games feel very slim and small, but I think they can provide the base for something bigger that caters to your group. They can also be combined with other games that use the same rule-set very easily, which you could use to provide interesting level-ups for characters. 24XX games are also usually pretty cheap, so you’re not going to break the bank picking up a few to play around with.
Planedawn Orphans, by Sharkbomb Studios.
Set in the Planar City, a strange melting pot that connects the vast diversity of the multiverse. You all play Planar Orphans stranded in this city, your original home worlds destroyed, corrupted or lost.
A mysterious Patron has brought you together, provided you with a base of operations and tasked you to complete a Planar Key. This key will let you create a new plane for you and your fellow refugees. Your quest will bring you to exotic places filled with strange creatures and bizarre phenomena.
This isn’t a game in itself - it’s a campaign framework - but it gives you the opportunity to cobble together a bunch of different games while still giving your players a structure upon which they can scaffold their character’s growth and personalities. I’m currently running this across a huge number of different games with a co-GM and my home group: so far we’ve played Household, The Wildsea, Sundered Isles, and The Great Soul Train Robbery!
Sig, City of Blades, by Genesis of Legend Publishing.
Sig is the nexus of the multiverse, where eternal planes and infinite primes meet. It’s a rough home for cutters and bashers, hungry for coin and glory. It’s a city of gods, demons, and stranger things which lurk. It’s a place where opposites meet, trading knives and kisses in equal measure.
The Silent Regent once ruled over the city with a bladed fist. Now her throne sits empty and the criminal factions battle for control. They dispatch crews of Freebooters, clever and bold, to further their schemes. This is where you come in.
In Sig: City of Blades, you will play the Freebooters in service to once of the mighty city factions. Your faction depends on you to perform vital missions to seize territory and coin from their rivals. This is a game about clever spies, renegade sorcerers and reckless smugglers. You are the best of the best and the worst of the worst.
If you are familiar with Planescape, I’ve heard that Sig: City of Blades gives off the same vibes, at least when it comes to setting. Rules-wise, it’s Forged in the Dark. It looks like in this game, the multiverse comes to you; as scoundrels in a city at the centre of these dimensions, there are plenty of ways for you to get rich in some kind of way that counts. Tiny Dungeon: Second Edition, by Gallant Knight Games.
Tiny Dungeon: Second Edition is powered by the TinyD6 engine, with streamlined mechanics that utilize only one to three single six-sided dice on every action, characters that can be written on a 3x5 notecard, and easy to understand and teach rules, Tiny Dungeon 2e is great for all groups, ages, and experience levels!
Tiny Dungeon feels like a very boiled-down version of a classic fantasy game; heritages that give you starting abilities, traits that are reminiscent of character classes, and a turn economy that structures combat to make sure everyone gets the same amount of time to do things. You use d6’s to roll, with 1d6 being the worst pool (rolling with a disadvantage) and 3d6 being the best (rolling with an ability or advantage). The game is meant to be mod-able, with optional rules and various micro-settings meant to get your inspiration flowing. The best part about so many different micro-settings that all use the same rules is that you can absolutely jump from one setting to another!

I’d also ask myself if Slugblaster could be hacked to be about fantasy adventurers jumping into various dimensions, rather than teenagers hoverboarding across space and time. It certainly has plenty of pieces that allow your characters to dig into personal issues - the Trouble mechanic really lets you digest the kinds of things your character might have to neglect in order to go adventuring! You can read more about it in my Dimensional Travel recommendation post.

Optimal Systems
A.N: It’s official! After finishing Sumeru Archon quest, Dottore is my favorite Fatui Harbringer!! I’m still waiting to meet the Banker! I want to see him so badly in the game!! Since the trailer last year, both Dottore and the Banker I consider my “evil” husbandos.
Dottore x Reader
Genshin Impact MasterList
---------------------------------
Sometimes you swore that Dottore knew your body better than you did.
“You are coming down with something, aren’t you?”
Tumblr media
You were currently leaning back as Dottore peered down into your face, precariously close that the tip of his beak on his mask almost could touch your nose.
You blinked and sniffed, “I’m fine.
“Hmmm….”
Although you couldn’t see it, you sensed Dottore’s eyes roving over your body.
And three days later, the Doctor proved to be correct, as you had come down with a huge coughing fit. You didn’t have a temperature, you know you checked, so that was a mercy. You were just coughing like a volcano erupting.
After another coughing fit had subsided, you managed to hear the voice at the entrance to your bedroom, “Oh, my. I’m not interrupting anything, am I?”
You glared at Dottore. It didn’t matter which one said it, as two of them were leaning in the doorway.
“I could hear you all the way from my lab.” One spoke.
“Sounds quite horrible, my pet.” The other spoke, walking over and gracefully sitting down on the edge of your bed. He reached up and tugged a glove off to place his hand on the back of your forehead.
“No temperature. I checked.” You breathed out.
Everyone and their mother, in the Fatui, swore that you were Dottore’s favorite experiment.
And yet, you had never seen the inside of his lab.
And yet still, Dottore had kept you around for quite awhile now.
Case in point, you knew Dottore rarely took off his gloves. Unless, it was to replace the gloves he was wearing when he came from his lab with…questionable substances on it. But you noticed that he frequently took off his gloves when he wanted to touch you.
He had spent an absorbent amount of time, running his bare hands across your body, hidden eyes ever observant. He claimed to want to intimately understand the workings of your body. You didn’t quite understand why he found you of all people this fascinating. He would check you from head to toe, inside and out. He even claimed to understand where all your organs lay and how precious they were.  At first, you were embarrassed making him amused but since then, the embarrassment had somewhat subsided as you became use to his touch.
But part of you wondered, if he was this fascinated, why you never ended up on his operating table.
Don’t mistake you!
You didn’t want to be on his operating table, but the Dottore’s object of fascinations usually ended up there.
But not you.
You got so used to Dottore, that you could tell apart some of his other segments.
Dottore removed his hand from your forehead, as you sat up in bed, “So you don’t have a fever. That’s good, my pet.”
This Dottore was his more…. “Emotional” one. Of all the segments, this one was one that conducted experiments and observed through more emotional means. He had a whole log of how he felt about his experiments. Most of the other segments dismissed him as overly emotional, that his findings were not worth much in the grand scheme of things. You had witnessed a number of arguments he had with this other selves, including his original self.
For you personally, that translated to this one being a bit more able to emote his care towards you.
Wait, was it care?
Well, you suppose as much as someone like Dottore was able to display.
“Just leave her where she’s at! If she gets better, whatever. And if not, well, we could save some of her organs for further use.” The other at the door spoke, smirking towards the end.
You just rolled your eyes, “Why are you here? Shouldn’t you be out finding another torture subject?”
“Why would I do that, when I can torture you?”
Of all the Dottore’s you met, this one was the one that hated you the most. You weren’t quite sure what segment he represented, but you were torn between placing him as the extremely logical side with no emotion or a downright diabolical one.  This segment was usually in the forefront of lab sessions. So why wasn’t he there now? Why bother even peering into your bedroom to begin with? With you, he never had a kind word or gesture to say.
Well, as kind as Dottore could be.
He was quite combative, that you tried to make sure to stay out of his way. If there was a way to end up on the cold metal table, you were sure it would be through him. He always threatened to drag you to his lab to dissect you or dismissed you as an insect not worthy of observing. He was the one that never, NEVER touched you. He’d only look down at you before spinning on his heel and leaving.
Which is exactly what he did after he tsked at you, “Useless…”
“Don’t pay attention to that one. He doesn’t understand the value of studying you.” The “emotional” perspective Dottore spoke, not taking his eyes off of you.
You blinked up at him, “Value?”
This was the first time you were hearing this.
There was value in studying you? Whatever for?
Dottore only laughed, “Ahh, is this look what is called…..hm…..ah yes….cute.”
You sputtered, which lead you to another coughing fit.
“Oh my….” he murmured.
“So, it finally arrived.”
After your coughing fit, you looked up to see Dottore walking in. He came over and loomed over you. He stood so long, you began to fidget. Then he lifted a box and began to open it, without another word.
“What…what’s that?” you asked.
The standing Dottore, only turned the box he sat on the dresser by your bed, so you could read it, without even looking at you, “What’s it look like?”
So this was the original Dottore, you realized as you peered at the box. The surprise of it had you choking yourself into another coughing fit.
“I don’t think it warrants this response, my pet.”
“Calm down, my pet.” The “emotional” segment added, reaching out to rub at your chest.
“Is that cough syrup?” you asked when you could talk.
The original Dottore didn’t answer but the more “emotional” segment only nodded, “Obviously, if you have a cough, you could take some cough syrup. Isn’t that just common sense?”
“Something she seems to be lacking, as I see no cough syrup anywhere on this dresser.” Dottore spoke.
“I was working on it.” you snapped.
“Obviously not hard enough. Now be a good girl and open your mouth.”
You couldn’t help but to eye both of them suspiciously, “Is that all it is?”
Both Dottores look at each other before exchanging a twin grin, sending a shiver down your spine, “You want it to be something else? You want to be my lab rat, that badly? Are you jealous?”
Both Dottores took turns speaking back and forth.
“N-n-no! That’s not it! I’m just surprised that you would give me regular medicine, like….like a doctor.”
You could feel twin annoyance at this as they both spoke, “I am a doctor.”
You waved it away, “No, I mean! Taking care of a patient isn’t really your style. You tend to make…patients….”
“In order to make patients, as you want to say ever so delicately, we have to first understand how to cure them.” The “emotional” segment spoke.
“Knowing the rules is the first step to bending them. Once I know the rules, then I know what boundaries to push to reach the best outcome of experimentation.”  You were surprised that the original Dottore was explaining this as he tipped the medicine in your mouth, “So naturally, I know how to cure quite a bit.”
You swallowed the syrup.
But then Dottore smirked from above you as he leaned down and tilted your chin, “For example, I could take this cough syrup and lace it with something to make it overly potent, killing the subject easily.”
You swallowed reflectively at this, making Dottore’s hand slid down to lightly grip your neck, “Or, I could strip away the contents of the cough syrup and make it less effective. Does that worry, you, my pet?”
Although you couldn’t see it, you could feel twin eyes boring into you with equal interest. Even after all this time, Dottore could give you a scare. But you managed to live in relative peace this long. You weren’t entirely sure what Dottore would gain from finishing you off in this moment.
“Are you scared, my pet?” The “emotional” asked, his hand dropping from your heart to grip your hand, “Don’t hold back! Tell us, what you are feeling.”
“I’m fine.” You were glad your voice was stable even as you looked into the original Dottore’s gaze.
The “emotional” one giggled, “Liar. You are trying to convince yourself that you have no cause for worry and yet part of your knows there is an outcome where we can do exactly what we say. The question we need to ask ourselves is, of three outcomes, which possibility are we dealing with today?”
The orignial one spoke, “Perhaps in a few days, as she takes this medicine on a regular schedule, she’ll come to some to a kind of certainty.”
Your nosed flared, “You like to play too much, Dottore.” You snatched your chin away from his hand and batted the others hand away from yours, “I’m certain it is as you say and it’s regular cough syrup.”
The original Dottore only smirked, “What percentage of certainty would you say, you are, my pet?”
You lifted your chin, “98%.”
“So 2% chance of this experiment ending in tragedy then. Out of the three outcomes you have a ⅓ chance of getting out of this unscathed and yet still you say you have 98% certainty. How interesting…”
“Well, if I dropped dead, you wouldn’t be able to continue this experiment anymore.” You gestured towards yourself.
You knew you were playing with fire. No matter how much Dottore seemed to have an interest in you, you knew that could be snuff out at any time. But with as much work as he had invested in you, you wondered if he would be happy to see it go to waste.
What would be considered a waste, in his his?
If fact, what was even the basis of theory for the Dottore’s experiment with you?
Ahhh, you were too much under the weather to dive into the minds of lunatics.
You said as much, “Based on my observations, I’m assuming I’m a pretty lucrative experiment. Are you sure you’ve gotten all your monies worth? Nothing else to learn and observe? Are you certain that in the time to come, there weren’t be anything else worth learning about?”
You looked between the two steadily before a coughing fit took hold of you. Dottore’s exchanged glances before looking back at you.
“Well said, my pet.” the original Dottore dared to clap.
The “emotional” one stood, and you could feel him vibrating, “Such words! Such passion!! I must make note of this. I shall be back later!”
He darted out the door.
Dottore shook his head, “He’s such a child.”
“You do remember you are talking about yourself, right?” you snarked.
Dottore reached down and tilted your chin, “Don’t get sassy with me, otherwise you really will make me consider….alternate measures to your sickness.”
You only lifted the side of your nose in a pout.
“Good girl. Now lay here quietly. One of us will come back to make sure you take your medicine on time. Comply and get yourself back to optimal status.”
You blinked as Dottore chuckled, pulling his hand away. He began to head for the door. Stopping, he turned and looked over his shoulder at you, “Once you are back at optimal, we will have to….check all your systems. Just to make sure they are in fact, optimal.”
Your sputter led you into a coughing fit as Dottore laughed and left.

Chapter Eighteen: The Campaign: Malatra Pt. 2
We took a break after introductions to get our dinner.  Alfred made chicken alfredo, which was a hit with the guys. I lingered in the kitchen with Hudson for a minute. “How do you feel about DM-ing for the first time?” Hudson asked.
I sipped my soda. “I feel like you guys are just being nice,” I replied.
“Trust me, if you sucked we’d all be booing you mercilessly. Do you like it?” Hudson questioned. I nodded as I sipped his drink.
“Jason! Hudson! Are you guys coming or not?” Tim called. I laughed, shaking off my nerves as I went upstairs with my plate to my room. I took my spot and ate a forkful before falling back into character.
“Theren Everlake circles the four of you, staring with unknown intent, his hair makes a sweet hollow noise in the wind… And he stops, tilting his chin downward and toward the side as he glances upon Fettar Keephorn. His jaw tightens, his eyes waver, and something beneath his stern and wooden facade, something in him breaks.” I acted out the movements for everyone before shutting my eyes. “Quickly. He turns his attention to Eldrid Deepwood. He extends a hand, bowing warmly despite his despair.”
“Your reputation precedes you. The last of your clan. I feel as though you will understand my anguish… Would you give audience to my humble and sorrowful request?” I asked in Theren’s voice.
Ives finished taking a bite and everyone chuckled. The shift between Ives and Eldrid was perfect. His eyes widened and he glanced down and around him before looking straight at me. “Aye,” Ives answered, “There’s much grief here.”
“We’ve lost someone deeply beloved to us… Or I should say, someone dearly beloved to us was captured. Lunathari… And in her absence, a mysterious illness has befallen our children,” I explained.
“Where did they take her?” Hudson asked in Clay’s voice. It was a little more grownup than his voice. Hudson’s characters always jump headfirst into a mission. It didn’t take a lot to get him involved, but he was a wildcard.
I looked straight at him. “You’ve returned to your forgotten home. In any other circumstances, this would be a joyous occasion. Lunathari would be overjoyed to see you once more… But I’m afraid this quest may take more than one person… If your traveling companions will accept this quest, I am willing to offer payment. What say you?” I questioned.
Tim scratched his head and pretended to push his glasses up. “Well, Mr. Everlake. May I call you Mr. Everlake? My liege? Nevermind that. We’ll do everything we can to retrieve Miss Lunathari. Won’t we, Mr. Deepwood?” Tim asked in his girl voice. I finished eating dinner, and I wiped my mouth while I waited for everyone else to speak.
“I reckon we could get her home if we all work together,” Ives answered, “Miss Moonfall is right. We’ll do whatever we can.”
“I owe you that much,” Hudman mumbled. He didn’t look up.
“Then, I see fit to remind you to return Lunathari to me. Unlike what you’ve done with Clay—.”
“Theren—.”
“Hold your tongue, Clay. You were only a boy when you left us,” I replied, looking at Hudson with a sweet fondness. Hudson’s cheeks went rosy, and he bowed his head. Tim’s eyes widened as he looked straight at me.
**
After two hours, they made it down the other side of the mountain in view of the cave where Lyra the Torturer held her adoptive sister Lunatharia. “Can I try to sneak toward the mouth of the cave?” Hudman asked.
“Roll for stealth,” I replied. Hudman rolled and everyone held their breath.
“Nineteen, plus nine stealth advantage,” Hudman sighed.
The guys knocked each other around in celebration. “You stroll right up to the entrance without being seen or heard. You’re just… close… enough… to… hear…” The alarm on my phone went off. “Sorry, guys. Time to clean up. Alfred’ll be up any minute to take you guys home.”
Everyone groaned and started picking up their backpacks. I left everything in its place, and Tim took a picture. Ives and Hudman texted their parents to tell them they’d be home soon, and Hudson sat next to me on the floor. “Do you maybe wanna—? The school’s going on a trip next month. Maybe we can sit next to each other on the bus,” Hudson offered.
“For sure, Hudson,” I smiled, “And thanks for being nice about me DM-ing. I was nervous you’d think I sucked.”
“Hey, you’re doing fine… I’ll see you tomorrow at school,” Hudson smiled as he hugged me. I don’t think he was thinking because he rushed behind the other guys as they went down the stairs.
They left me alone with Tim. He seemed happy. It was nice to see him happy again. “ Hudson? ” Tim questioned.
“What about him?” I asked.
Tim shrugged, still smiling as he set his die in the pouch they came in. “I don’t even know why you were worried. You should DM for the next campaign, too,” Tim smiled.
“It’s a lot of work, though,” I replied.
“You love DM-ing. I can tell,” Tim smiled, but his eyes drooped. I could almost feel his sadness.
I dropped down beside him, sitting on my bed with my hands clasped together. “What’s on your mind?” I questioned.
“Mom… She used to read these books by R.A. Salvatore. She used to read them to me before bed, and it was our thing… And then, she started having me read to her… And then I started reading them to myself before bed. Jason, that’s why it means so much for you to host and DM like this,” Tim smiled, “Not only are we brothers, but you’re sharing something with me that Mom loved.” I bumped shoulders with him.
“Are you sleeping in here tonight?” I asked. Tim nodded. He couldn’t sleep in his room. I couldn’t blame him. The manor wasn’t home for him. Not to mention, his parents’ house was a lot more friendly-looking on the inside. That… And the obvious stuff going on.
**
I trained with Barbara on Wednesday, which mostly started with her taking me to physical therapy and then swimming. After we swam, Barbara went over the basics of self-defense in wheelchairs specifically. Always self-defense first. I think she knew the stress of losing Janet caused a flare-up of nerve pain in my legs. Maybe she saw it in the way I got out of the pool.
Barbara was no-nonsense. She went over everything three times, and we did everything thrice. Unless I didn’t do things to her standards. “Nuh-uh. Sloppy. You’re coming up weak on that right arm block. I could push that arm right into your face,” Barbara replied as she pushed my forearm into my nose. It was humbling. And infuriating. And my temper was short.
I huffed and pushed my bangs back. “Okay! I get it,” I snapped. It wasn’t the first time she’d done it during training. That was the difference between her and Bruce. Bruce was way nicer about it when he trained me.
I had to shake that thought off. I had to stop being sensitive and short-tempered if I wanted to get better. “Get it together. Three more times,” Barbara replied. I obeyed without any further complaint. If I could keep my head down and train hard, I could be back in fighting shape on schedule.

Talking to the Moon: Part VI
Pairing: Astarion x GN!Reader Word Count: ~4800 Warnings: slightly suggestive, swearing, blood, non-con touching (Cazador touching reader), some borrowed in game dialogue, canonical warnings apply!
archiveofourown: here
masterlist: here
part I: here part II: here part III: here part IV: here part V: here
Summary: Set in Act III, after you arrive in Baldur's Gate and have met some of Astarion's siblings but not yet confronted Cazador. Astarion struggles with inner turmoil as he is suddenly thrusted back into the clutches of his old master's influence.
Notes: Long time no update! Long story short December was the month where everything was bad and everything hurt - ER hospital visits and many, many days laying in bed and on the couch very unmotivated and just wanting to feel better! I am very grateful to be feeling better and up to writing as my fics is one of my favorite creative outlets! So thank you for being patient between updates! I really appreciate it and any kind of interaction like a reblog, like or comment truly makes my friggin' day!
So this update and the next chapter will be focused on confronting Cazador! I have had these thoughts and ideas to add more to the in-game scenes since the very first time I played it! I was doing a multiplayer save with my fiancé and the second we finished Astarion's quest (I sobbed the entire time btw) I stayed up all night writing all my thoughts onto my notes app. I didn't even intend to write into a fic back then, I just wanted the outlet of writing it all down to help with how emotional I was feeling about it all! And now a few months later, I have a fic with over 30k words. Aha... whoops!
Anyways, I really hope you enjoy this update and the slight changes and add-ons I've added to this final part of Astarion's quest. I honestly teared up writing parts of it, because Astarion and his and my Tav's story means so much to me, I couldn't help it. ALSO, I don't plan on these being the last updates since it is the "end" of Astarion's quests. I still have plans for this Tav/Reader and Astarion yet. Not enough kissing and happiness had happened yet!! Just some angst and pain has to happen first.
As always, reblogs and comments are very very appreciated ♡♡♡
·:¨༺ ༻¨:·..·:¨༺ ༻¨:·..·:¨༺ ༻¨:·..·:¨༺ ༻¨:·..·:¨༺ ༻¨
You had wandered the streets of Baldur’s Gate before. Long before the nautiloid, in your time living in the city you had explored as much of the exciting city as you could. But never like this.
Your party had taken every cobblestone street, every back alley and shortcut. Astarion lead the way for most of them, pointing things out and sharing antidotes with you.
But you noticed how his smile strained at times, that he was wearing down the stitches on his leather pants from his fingers picking them nervously. At night when you slept side by side you’d wake to him trembling and muttering through a nightmare, which had become more frequent since you stepped into the city boundaries.
The vampire has been so sure of the next step in the Shadowlands and Wyrm’s Crossing. But now anytime you neared the streets leading to Cazador’s castle, he was turning on his heel and looking at one of your companions to ask what they needed to do instead.
Meeting his siblings days ago had been eye-opening. You thought you understood what he had gone through, that the memories he had described to you, and even shown you through the tadpoles, was enough. But after seeing how controlled and manipulated Petras and Dalyria had been… What they were being forced to do…You couldn’t bring yourself to picture Astarion like that.
You couldn’t imagine the turmoil and anguish going through your lover — seeing his siblings, being in the city again in a way he never thought he would, being so close to seizing power that could change his fate forever. You hadn’t voiced that every time he mentioned taking the ritual for himself fear stabbed in your belly. You knew what was motivating him to even consider the choice — outright fear and the call of power that was easily addicting. But too many things in his life has been decided for him… so you didn’t voice that to him, instead insisting that you only needed for him to be safe and happy. You trusted him to make the right choice.
You did trust him. You loved him.
And you showed him as such — throughout the day as you laced your fingers through his, as you rolled your neck for him to feed, as you curled into each other to sleep.
And he had been returning that trust and love back.
He had continued to expand his boundaries with you, slowly but surely as the days went on. Your quiet time together after a long day, you were a reprieve he sought out over and over. You whispered and giggled with each other between kisses in your shared bed in the Elfsong Tavern — tucked into the corner and hidden behind privacy screens. Privacy screens that Karlach had loudly dragged over before giving you both a very unsubtle wink. Then she did the same for her and Shadowheart.
The teasing had been relentless.
You still hadn’t taken those final steps, and you were in no rush too. Astarion’s happiness and agency was the most important to you, always. Yet, you couldn’t help the way your heart thundered and breath got higher as he slowly explored any kind of touch and intimacy with you again.
You were laid together now, draped across each other — you only in your night clothes and Astarion in very thin linen pants. You were pressed gently on top of him, your voice and lips whispering across his pale skin as he pointed his fingertip to various parts of his body. His new game he had started that night — seemingly convinced that he would find a part of himself that you did not love.
Utterly impossible — but you indulged him anyways.
“Even this? You like this?” He pointed to his knobby elbow.
"Hmm,” You hummed approvingly, pressing a gentle peck to the bare, taut skin of his bent joint.
His low laughter rumbled through both of you, shaking you slightly. “I’m running out of ideas.”
You eyed him greedily, “I’m not. You’ve missed some of your best parts.”
“Have I?” He cocked a brow, a smirk spreading across his face. “Alright, go on then.”
“I can—?”
“Mhmm,” He nodded his head against the silk pillow, settling himself deeper into the mattress under your weight.
Swallowing, you took him in underneath you and felt your mind start whirring. Slow, patient, soft — you reminded yourself. You gently touched his jawline, the tip of your finger following the strong line. “Here.”
Then your forefinger and thumb rubbed the cartilage on the tops of his ears, “Here.” His mouth fell open deliciously with that one.
“Here,” You caressed the mole on his cheek with a swipe of your thumb.
You continued your movements, so drawn into him that you didn’t notice his red eyes blazing as they flickered between watching your hand and watching your face.
Your fingers gracefully dragged across him. His Adam’s apple. His knuckles. Collarbone. Inner wrist.
“I told you, there is no part of you that I do not like. Every inch of you I want to—“ You cut yourself off. Perhaps that was too much. This was a fun, teasing game — exploratory and gentle. You hadn’t meant to make it about your own desire and arousal.
He swallowed, his mouth hanging open slightly, “You want to what?”
You let out a fake cough, lifting yourself off of him slightly with a blush crossing your cheeks. “Well, I—“
A grin spread across his face, “Oh, I love it when you get all coy.” He purred, pulling you back before you could fully get away. “Tell me, please.” He whispered.
“There isn’t an inch of you that I don’t wish to kiss. To taste.” You admitted huskily, the heat on your face spreading to your neck.
The groan that escaped him made the fire in your belly sputter even hotter.
“Show me?” He asked softly, but his tone was slightly more sultry than before.
“Sho—show you?”
He nodded before fidgeting under you to display himself more — stretching out his neck, spreading his arms out.
“May I—“
“Darling,” He said the pet name a tad exasperated as his slowly closing eyes snapped to yours. “This was my idea. You don’t have to ask every time.”
“Yes, I do.” You insisted.
He rolled his eyes playfully, shaking his soft curls, “Really—“
But you cut him off. “Astarion, I do. I will continue to. It’s important to me. I never want you to do something you don’t want. I never want to make you feel like that with me.”
“You haven’t. I know you wouldn’t.” He trailed his pale fingers through the hair hanging in front of your face as you hovered over him. He tucked it behind your ear.
“I know it seems like a silly question, especially between us but I want you to know you can—“
It was his turn to cut you off, silencing you with a reassuring kiss. He was looking at you with astonishment when you finally opened your eyes from the deep kiss. “What ever did I do to deserve you my lovely moon?”
You smiled tenderly down at him, “Perhaps it was fate.”
“Hmm," His red eyes blinked slowly, "I used to despise that sentiment.”
“And now?”
Astarion gave you one of the most tender smiles you'd ever seen. “I think you might be right.” He ran his fingers gently down your cheek before letting out a dramatic puff. “Now, stop turning me into a sappy lovesick fool and kiss me already.” He growled playfully.
"As you wish, love." You mumbled as you pressed your lips to his.
• • •
You woke with a stir, the weight of the mattress shifting suddenly and then the sound of scuffling feet. Astarion was standing in front of the bed — in front of you defensively, still only in his night pants with his bare chest rising and falling quickly. A dagger was closed in his fist, aimed in front of him of threateningly. “Stop right where you are.” His voice was commanding like it had never been before, but you could still hear a twinge of uncertainty in it.
“You know why we’re here, brother.” A low, masculine voice said — seemingly coming from the dark shadows in the corners of the large suite.
Astarion's stance grew wider, his grip on his dagger tightening until his already pale knuckles turned white. “Come any closer to us and it will be the last thing you do.”
Peering over your lover's figure, you found four pairs of glowing red eyes studying you intently. The hairs on the back of your neck and arms started to stand up.
"I mean it - get the hells away from us!" Astarion growled again, his hand blinding reaching back for you. You laced your fingers through his and a protection spell was on your lips seconds later, muttered quietly until you felt the magical aura surround him.
The rest of your companions were up on their feet after Astarion's shout, pushing in towards your bed, edging around it in a protective semi-circle. Most of them were scantily clad in only undergarments and nightclothes - but all of them had their hands glowing with magic or weapons drawn. Fury was etched on every one of their faces from the intrusion and threat.
One of the female vampires eyed the rest of your group, counting and calculating. Then she raised her hands up, "We come in peace, brother."
"You call this peace, Aurelia?" He frowned at her. Your grip on him tightened as you stood up and tried to go to his side, but he stepped in front of you protectively once again.
A male stepped forward slightly, his mouth and eyes ruby red with deep scars carved over his skin, trailing down his chin. It was a terrifying sight. But his voice did not match his appearance, and instead was laced with desperation and hope. "The master needs all seven us for the ceremony. Come with us and be reborn. We'll live again."
The suite remained deadly silent. Like you all were waiting to see who would make the first move, who would let loose a spell or swing a blade first.
But it was your meek voice that broke the silence, "How did you find us?"
Their red eyes snapped instantly to you, but it was one of his sister's who spoke. "Master Cazador has known where Astarion was this entire time — where both of you were. He has been watching carefully since you arrived in the city."
"You know what our master will do to them.” His scarred brother warned, nodding his head towards you. His eyes almost looked... sad.
“He won’t get the chance, Leon.” Astarion snarled back.
Leon raised his hands defensively, "We aren't here for them. We are here about the rite. The master needs you. You must attend."
Astarion scoffed, "Oh, I am well aware of what the master needs. But don't we all deserve better?" His features were contorted in a strange mixture of emotion. "After these centuries of torment, I know what you all want. More then power. More than to walk in the sun. You want to see him dead."
The desire for revenge, for Cazador's death, did not surprise you. He had said as much, and bluntly too. You had agreed that Cazador deserved such a fate after the years of abuse and exploitation he had forced upon Astarion.
"If you think I will be a willing sacrifice for him and his deranged ritual, you really are stupidly blinded by him."
"Sacrifice?" Aurelia stepped forward, shaking her head. "No, this is our way to cheat undeath."
"Is that the lie he told you?" He sneered.
"I-"
Astarion's lips curled up, "You're all fools. You think he cares about us? You think he will grant us such power? We are nothing but pawns to be slaughtered for the king — one final, grand maneuver so he can win the game."
His four siblings shook with disbelief. "The master doesn't need to lie to us. He controls us, fully. Why go through the trouble of giving us hope..."
Leon got there first, his face crumbling. "Because its more cruel... shit."
The vampires exchanged a look — a look between siblings that you knew well. One that you had shared with your own brother many times. A silent conversation had happened between them in an instant.
"That manipulative bastard." The other female finally spoke, her words a hiss between her fanged teeth.
"How did we not see this?"
Leon squared his shoulders, moving his red eyes to look back at his free brother. "Astarion is right... because we are blind fools."
"We must go before he compels us too— agghhh." Aurelia grabbed her head, her expression one of excruciating pain. "Aggghhhhh!"
"Take her." Leon commanded the other siblings who looped their arms around her, dragging her away as she fought them. But he lingered behind them for a moment, stopping to look over his shoulder and study the pair of you. To look at the rest of your companions surrounding you defensively. "Help us, brother." His voice was a whispered plea, his terrifying, red eyes wide and shining. Then with a loud crack and a sudden puff of red, they were gone.
A collective sigh escaped your party as they disappeared, spells extinguished and weapons dropped down to their sides before they turned to face both of you.
Astarion’s shoulders sagged as he realized his family had indeed left. He all but collapsed into your side, burying his face into the crook of your neck as you held him back. Really, as you held him up.
You stroked his hair as he murmured into your shoulder, “Tomorrow. This ends tomorrow.”
“Okay, my love. We’ll be with you the whole way.” You whispered into his pointed ear, returning the concerned expression of your companions watching as your hold on Astarion tightened a bit more.

Whatever you do... I just don't want to die down here.
Sebastian’s voice was echoing in his ears, his mind, and creeping down into parts of him he had just barely started to recognize again. Parts of him that a few months ago he had deemed long dead. He had to force his pink lips into a firm line just to stop them from trembling.
This place, his so-called home was his personal hell. Every step through the fading carpets and ostentatiously decorated rooms had gotten harder and harder — until he had started to feel physically ill. Bile was rising in his throat, his back and palms of his hands turning clammy. And now, standing in the secret, buried crypt beneath — it felt like the castle above him was pressing down, screaming at him of what a luxury it had been that he was a prisoner up there and not down here. That voice in his head, that ringing, echoing voice. Gods, he wished it would stop.
And you... you had been so uncommonly quiet. You who had lent him your strength since the moment he met you, you and your presence a steady reassurance that he had come to depend on. But his little moon who was usually so chatty and poetic, was so quiet. Your eyes were wide as you followed him through Cazador’s castle, your steps clumsy and dazed like he wasn't the only one walking through this twisted nightmare. Perhaps it was for you — realizing the realities of what he had been through.
When Astarion's composure had really started to shake, you snapped back to reality and were with him in an instant. Your warm fingers threading through his icy ones. Your voice, your soft, hushed voice using the smallest amount of words to try and put his cruel mind at ease. The words you had used were choice, but powerful. You insisted that all of this was Cazador's cruelty — not his.
But how could he believe that as he stood in front of the cells filled with people he had brought his master? How could he deny the role he played in all of this when he could stare into the eyes of all of those victims — the stupid, innocent fools who in a fleeting moment fell for him.
Especially when he realized how fortunate, how damn lucky, it was that he never stumbled on you on the streets of Baldur’s Gate the past year you'd lived in the city.
Astarion stood before the precipice of Cazador’s ritual room. The grand doors that would lead to these final moments just a few steps away from him.
The fine outfit he picked for himself suddenly felt unbearably tight and itchy. The lacy neck scratching and digging into his skin, his leather shoes too restricting. He had wanted to use the clothes as a symbol to his old master — look how well I’ve done without you, look who I’ve become without you. His hands became fists at his sides, his knuckles white and half moons appearing on the soft skin of his palms as he squeezed tighter and tighter. The only way to stop them from trembling — with both fear and rage.
“I'm here for you, love.” You whispered gently, your warm fingers ghosting the sides of his wrists as you stepped in beside him. His fists unclenched slightly as he breathed in your familiar scent, as he savored the soft caress of your skin on his. He pushed down the building sob climbing up through his chest, the urgency of the cry growing as he felt your presence surround him. "Just... remember who you are, Astarion."
Who was he? It felt even blurrier in this sadistic crypt under the castle he used to call home. Though it never was one. A prison, that's what it was.
And what version of him did you see? Could he really be what you thought you saw? What you thought he could be?
Astarion had left Baldur's Gate against his will — a tormented, violent, broken thing. A puppet. A slave. He thought he had returned to this city anew — a free male, softer around the edges but no longer a thing to be used. His own person.
Yet the second he felt the influence of Cazador's control, the moment he felt that familiar threat he felt as if he was falling backwards. Being backed into a corner, corralled into the cage and slapped into chains that he had rotted away in for two hundred years.
He would not go back.
A shudder went through him as he tried to compose himself once more, taking a deep breath that he knew he did not truly need. Looking sideways at you, he gave you a final nod. "I'm ready for this to be over."
Something flashed in your eyes, but it was gone as fast as it appeared. You nodded, before following him through the grand doors with the rest of your companions trailing behind.
The descent down those stairs was brutal. Time seemed to drag to such a slow that it was almost like the scene before them was frozen in time. Astarion could recognize the familiar silhouette of his master anywhere. It had haunted him long enough that he had memorized every harsh line and angle. He loosed a breath as he counted six figures bound and hovering by some form of magic — a seventh spot on the top center left open and waiting.
For him.
"Could it be?!" The voice that plagued his thoughts, his nightmares and memories echoed throughout the large chamber. It sent hundreds of different feelings throughout his body, his flesh getting goosebumps and steps faltering for a moment on the stone stairs.
"Our prodigal son returned to us!" Cazador's voice was jovial, but there was no mistaking why. The final piece to his game had just delivered themselves to him, the sacrificial lamb for slaughter had seemingly come with no ill intent.
Astarion would make the vampire bastard regret underestimating him.
He could hear you just steps behind him, the pads of your feet, the familiar thrum of your heart increasing as you both stepped closer and closer to Cazador's place on the central dais. He gritted his teeth, his back molars clenching down so hard he swore he heard a crunch in the back of his mouth. He lowered his head, looking up at the monster that had ruined him through his eyebrows.
"Do not slouch before me, boy! Have you no respect for yourself?" Cazador snapped, waving his hand dismissively at him. "Look at you, crawling back after abandoning your family. You should be begging for our forgiveness."
"I will do no crawling, nor begging." Astarion snarled, baring his teeth slightly. "And forgiveness? Really? You have never forgiven anything. Every mistake, every slip was punished."
The bastard had the audacity to roll his red eyes, "I strove for perfection in all things — even those as imperfect as you. A pity you amounted to so little, despite my efforts."
"No!!" He roared, stepping forward once more as he pointed his finger. "No, fuck you and fuck everything you've ever done to me!"
Cazador raised a single dark brow before letting out a humorless laugh, "You stupid, little boy."
"You son of a bitch!" Astarion couldn't stop the explosion of anger that coursed through him and he charged forward. His pale hand formed a fist as he launched himself at Cazador but a flare of red magic suddenly froze him in place. His body stopped completely, caught mid-lunge with his fingers still curled in a punch.
He heard a strangled whimper from behind him. It was you, the sound one he had rarely heard — one of you paralyzed from fear.
But the master mercifully ignored you, only having eyes for his spawn. He smirked as he surveyed Astarion trapped in the swell of magic, "Tut, tut." He clicked his tongue, "Did you think it would be that easy?"
Astarion let out a groan of pain as he tried to resist the red binding power that started to form around him. Tears began to prickle in the corners of his eyes as they began to squeeze and cut into his skin, seeping into him slowly like a dreadful poison.
"Astarion!!" His name ripped out of you at his pained cries, stepping forward onto the dais to intervene. The agony in your voice was more unbearable then what he was currently suffering.
He was a fool to bring you here, to ask you to help him. He had served them all to Cazador on a silver platter.
“Oh?" The ancient vampire's voice had a hint of wicked glee in it as he turned on his heel and set his eyes on you, with the rest of your companions lingering just behind you. Like he had just finally bothered to notice your presence. "And who do we have here? Your little pet, Astarion?”
You froze in place, but stood up slightly taller. He watched as you jutted your chin forward, setting your shoulders back as you refused to cower in front of him. Even if he could scent your fear from here.  Then the old master slinked around you, his chest almost brushing your back as he inspected you head to toe. Your jaw set as he circled behind you where you could not see, but you did your best to keep your face neutral.  “And what’s this?” Cazador asked with a flicker of false humor.
Astarion hissed as the vampire stepped even closer, bending down to eye his puncture marks that had scarred on your neck. “You finally gained enough courage to feed from a being capable of thought? Congratulations, spawn.” Then he took in a large inhale, “And quite an appetizing pick too, they smell absolutely delicious."
His glowing red eyes snapped back to Astarion as he remained behind you, looming over your shoulder. He was gauging every reaction from both of you, he knew.
Studying. Calculating. Deducing.
Like any manipulative vampire would.
"But it seems my dear boy, you’ve been double dipping with this one haven’t you?” He made to grab your silver hair and Astarion felt his mind go berserk.  “DON'T YOU DARE TOUCH THEM!” He roared, pulling hard enough on the magical red tethers around him that they flared and flickered for a moment.
An evil grin contorted his master's fingers as he still put his long fingers through your hair and pushed it behind your ear. The action revealed even more of your neck so he pressed his prominent nose against your pulse point, inhaling deeply. “Your scent is all over them.” You shuddered involuntarily, your face wincing and flinching away at his cold touch.
Astarion growled, his fangs barring and snapping at his old master. “Oh, so upset. They are your favorite little pet aren’t they?" A long finger nail dragged down your jaw. Astarion's eyes were glued to yours, your body seemingly immobilized from fear — for both yourself and him. Cazador cocked his head as he watched the pair of you before letting out a scoff. "You fool, you fell for your snack instead. What a pity... for once I was almost proud of you.”
He finally let you go, wiping the fingers that touched you off on his jacket like you were a worm he had picked up from the dirt. He licked his lips as he approached his spawn again, still frozen with his scarlet magic that buzzed and echoed with authority throughout the entire chamber.  “Well, I can give you one last comfort, since I am such a generous master." He whispered into Astarion's ear, both of their eyes locked onto your worried expression. "Once you and all your siblings are nothing but pulp... I’ll treat your special love extra carefully. I’ll be so lonely since the rest of you will all be gone. But this one… they will make for a delectable companion."
Another growl escaped from deep in his chest, but the sound was caught as Cazador wrapped his long fingers around his pale throat. “It’s a pity I have to lose you. So much work, so much time... gone. But my new companion will do a much better job than you, with a pretty face like that no one would resist? I mean, even you didn’t.” He hissed in his ear.
"ENOUGH!” You barked, stepping forward closer to him with your mouth and brow set in a hardline. "Release him, Cazador, at once."
The bastard only smirked and snapped around to meet you, "Ha. Or what?"
"This all ends here. You end here." You did not stutter or stumble. Your voice was strong and carried across the chamber. Your companions stepped up behind you, hands moving at their sides as they readied their weapons and spells at your word.
"Is that so? You are willing to risk death for him? A wasted, mistake of a spawn? A stupid, little boy?"
Your nostrils flared, your eyes shining with familiar power that was now coming off of you in waves, "I would do anything for him."
"Stupid mortal." Cazador barked, his lips curling in disgust. "I forgot how foolish you can be when you fall in "love". But not to worry... I'll train that right out of you." He twirled back around dramatically, looking at Astarion as he held onto his staff tighter. The red magic swirled and brightened around Astarion, squeezing him so tightly he felt as if may be crushed from the inside out. "You truly forgot my power, Astarion. You truly thought our bond as creator and creation was all that stopped you from killing me. You are weak, my child. You are a small, pathetic little boy who never amounted to anything. But today, you will finally do something worthwhile. You will burn, and I will ascend."
The vampire master flicked his wrist, and Astarion was soaring across the room — completing the final spot in the ritual circle. The entire chamber room suddenly lit up with the red light, a enormous sigils swirling underneath Astarion and the rest of his siblings as they hovered in mid air. Their tops suddenly shredded from the force of the spell as their naked, scared torsos were revealed — the scars littered across them glowing the same scarlet as the patterns beneath them.
"ASTARION!" His name was a roar from your lips again as you surged forward, hands outstretched for him across the ritual floor.
"Witness the birth of the Vampire Ascendant! Ecce dominus!" Cazador's staff slammed down onto the marked stone floor.
And pain like nothing Astarion had ever felt went through every part of him.
