Adult Skating Update:

I'm halfway done with level 5 now!

Forward crossovers are looking great (coach says I have great speed too!), so do my backwards chasees and at least my left forward outside three turn...the right not so much.

Weirdly enough I'm having trouble with backwards edges around a circle...when I can do the chasees just fine? Idk I think that's more of a mental problem ngl...

The coaches all say that Level 5 is the one that's the most tricky for most. I get frustrated easily when I'm not immediately good at something especially because I speed ran through the other levels...so being "stuck" on 5 is not good for me haha😅

But I'm having another group lesson today so I'm positive I'll get the hang of the missing pieces today! And if not then next week 😉

So, Billy is just more put together than them, canonically when he isn’t straight up homeless he has his own job and apartment. Realistically with Hal, downgrade, with Barry idk bc I keep getting him and Wally mixed up so I don’t feel confident commenting there

For the vibes and fun?

Ollie and Dinah (package deal to me) rolling up with Billy makes me very happy. Ollie and Billy could talk for hours (read; days) on saying screw authority and Dinah letting Billy tag along for one of her gigs as a singer during which Billy flexes his guitar skills (canon thing) and delights one night at getting to play with his new mom. He absolutely does a crowd surf if they’re hyped enough, it’s the best night of his life.

Also, I headcanon Billy as doing a lot of really thoughtful magic gifts so he gets Dinah some fancy tea sirens or other vocal magical creatures use to help with their throats to help with hers cause of the strain her powers can cause, so Billy is just really sweet to her like that too.

Arthur speaks up about wanting to adopt his coworker and Billy’s like “I can’t breathe underwater tho…” so Arthur and Diana commission another set of Water Breathing jewelry from Hephaestus (Diana has a pair of earring for underwater visits) so Billy gets a sweet pair of earrings and undergoes a quick skin treatment to not constantly prune up in his new home. He’s gets along great with his new royal family, learns a lot of Atlantian magic because look me in the eyes and tell me this kid isn’t another weird “I love magical worlds” nerd who absorbs every magic he can get his hands on as Champion, loves every creature he comes across, and delights at having two parents again! Plus Tawny joins by turning into a catfish or something similarly appropriate bc shapeshifter Tawny agenda must be upheld.

got inspired from a recommendation post so decided to make a list of movies and shows with female-centric stories/female protagonists. since i can't post all of the genres in one post, i'll split it into multiple posts and y'all can save or add to the list as you wish. (disclaimer: i have watched most of these, but i only know about the existence of others. not every movie/show on these lists will be my recommendation. my recommendations will be beneath the list with reasons. also some of these are way better than others in terms of storytelling/performance--which is why i'll list my faves separately):

Everything Now (8/10) (actually deals with eating disorders appropriately, the most humanizing teen show i've ever seen)

Booksmart (8/10)(a calmer version of Bottoms, but still pretty unhinged and witty)

PERSONAL NOTES

The Miseducation of Cameron Post is the more sober version of But I'm A Cheerleader, where two lesbians get sent to conversion therapy camps. I found both entertaining and refreshing, full of nuance and oftentimes clever about the writing. The performances were also quite good.

I remember My First Summer being bittersweet, but I think there was one scene that made me a little antsy (because the girls in this are pretty young). If it was done tastefully is better left interpreted by those who decide to watch it.

Do Revenge is a whole bag of everything. Mean Girls meets Bottoms. Funny, cruel and unhinged (yet also a little sweet). It was overall fun stuff.

Skate Kitchen has a spin-off show by HBO called Betty.

I barely remember the one episode of Blood & Water I watched, but I know there were things I found to raunchy too be tasteful, yet there was also quite a bit that was still pretty solid and sweet. Not sure I can recommend because I don't know enough except it's about sisters.

If you like sweet and simple teen love stories, Rafiki and The Incredibly True Adventure of Two Girls in Love are right up your alley.

I only watched one season of Never Have I Ever to emotionally support my sister who had started it. I have never felt such visceral second-hand embarrassment in my LIFE.

First Kill is Romeo and Juliet with vampires and monster hunters. I liked the actors/actresses but you can tell that the budget for this show wasn't that big. If you like Warrior Nun, though, you may like First Kill.

One of the breakthroughs I've had with skating is the fact that you literally *have* to copy what other people do. I think maybe there's a bit of hesitation there at first for beginners because you may think "I don't want people to think that I know what I'm doing and am just bad at it". And they stay on the wall just trying to walk on ice / wheels.

But skating isn't like walking. It's not like using a scooter. It's not like using your toe picks / stoppers to move around on your tiptoes. You're not going to teach yourself an entirely new method from scratch. And you don't want to. It's not your end goal.

If you want to skate like other skaters, you have to do what other skaters do. You have to shift your weight from foot to foot and glide, that's what skating is (and it's fucking scary at first!). You have to be a beginner when you start out. You have to fall and try again. (Also helpful to know that you will probably never fall as often as professionals fall). You have to move like they move. Copying isn't cheating in ANY sport, it's how you learn.

I am yet to try aerial hoop but plan to try it this month if I can. I keep getting scared. I'm so excited about the new dance term starting up. I'm going to also try to go ice skating at least once a week.

Tap shoes, jazz shoes, character shoes, canvas ballet shoes and satin ballet shoes.
