First class was today and I fucking nailed it. It felt so awesome to get back to something I love. Definitely the new honeymoon period, it will get harder and more frustrating the more I get back into it, but this feeling is how I know it's worth it.

My win this holiday season is biting the bullet and enrolling in an adult ice skating group class. I've been talking myself out of practicing solo, so I decided the group class would give me the accountability to actually get on the ice and then get my blades under me in a controlled setting.

It'll be scary, but less scary than potentially getting wiped out by a toddler on the public open skate sessions.

So, Billy is just more put together than them, canonically when he isn’t straight up homeless he has his own job and apartment. Realistically with Hal, downgrade, with Barry idk bc I keep getting him and Wally mixed up so I don’t feel confident commenting there

For the vibes and fun?

Ollie and Dinah (package deal to me) rolling up with Billy makes me very happy. Ollie and Billy could talk for hours (read; days) on saying screw authority and Dinah letting Billy tag along for one of her gigs as a singer during which Billy flexes his guitar skills (canon thing) and delights one night at getting to play with his new mom. He absolutely does a crowd surf if they’re hyped enough, it’s the best night of his life.

Also, I headcanon Billy as doing a lot of really thoughtful magic gifts so he gets Dinah some fancy tea sirens or other vocal magical creatures use to help with their throats to help with hers cause of the strain her powers can cause, so Billy is just really sweet to her like that too.

Arthur speaks up about wanting to adopt his coworker and Billy’s like “I can’t breathe underwater tho…” so Arthur and Diana commission another set of Water Breathing jewelry from Hephaestus (Diana has a pair of earring for underwater visits) so Billy gets a sweet pair of earrings and undergoes a quick skin treatment to not constantly prune up in his new home. He’s gets along great with his new royal family, learns a lot of Atlantian magic because look me in the eyes and tell me this kid isn’t another weird “I love magical worlds” nerd who absorbs every magic he can get his hands on as Champion, loves every creature he comes across, and delights at having two parents again! Plus Tawny joins by turning into a catfish or something similarly appropriate bc shapeshifter Tawny agenda must be upheld.

(disclaimer: i have watched most of these, but i only know about the existence of others. not every movie/show on these lists will be my recommendation. my recommendations will be beneath the list with reasons. also some of these are way better than others in terms of storytelling/performance--which is why i'll list my faves separately):

Booksmart (8/10)(a calmer version of Bottoms, but still pretty unhinged and witty)

PERSONAL NOTES

The Miseducation of Cameron Post is the more sober version of But I'm A Cheerleader, where two lesbians get sent to conversion therapy camps. I found both entertaining and refreshing, full of nuance and oftentimes clever about the writing. The performances were also quite good.

I remember My First Summer being bittersweet, but I think there was one scene that made me a little antsy (because the girls in this are pretty young). If it was done tastefully is better left interpreted by those who decide to watch it.

Do Revenge is a whole bag of everything. Mean Girls meets Bottoms. Funny, cruel and unhinged (yet also a little sweet). It was overall fun stuff.

Skate Kitchen has a spin-off show by HBO called Betty.

I barely remember the one episode of Blood & Water I watched, but I know there were things I found to raunchy too be tasteful, yet there was also quite a bit that was still pretty solid and sweet. Not sure I can recommend because I don't know enough except it's about sisters.

If you like sweet and simple teen love stories, Rafiki and The Incredibly True Adventure of Two Girls in Love are right up your alley.

I only watched one season of Never Have I Ever to emotionally support my sister who had started it. I have never felt such visceral second-hand embarrassment in my LIFE.

First Kill is Romeo and Juliet with vampires and monster hunters. I liked the actors/actresses but you can tell that the budget for this show wasn't that big. If you like Warrior Nun, though, you may like First Kill.

Last skate of the year, and I went with black as a symbol of the death of the old and birth of the new (wore nin 'bad witch' tshirt. Felt it fit the vibe).

Was going to video, but it was probably the most blissfully quiet Sunday ever so I just went with vibes. Chris did a stair run with me and repeatedly called me a bitch cause he doesn't do cardio. Which was amusing.

So, we shall do a mini wrap up for the year:

The good:

Camel spin is coming along nicely i think. Waltz and sal are pretty solid. Over all skating is improving i think. I'm showing signs of getting sit spin back. And think I might be able to go from camel to a tuck position in a couple of months if I keep at it. I can do backwards cross rolls without feeling like I'm going to die. Which honestly didn't think would ever happen. Coaching change has turned out better than expected.

The bad: no loop. And I am angry at myself for it. A hole year of working on it and it hasn't clicked yet. Which means i haven't learnt flip or Lutz yet. Which i am also pissed about. Toe loop still needs work. Left Forward inside 3 turn likes to try and kill me once a month for no apparent reason. Back spin is still inconsistent and unstable. Didn't finish skate school. I couldn't justify the expense of both that and private lessons. So it had to go. Didn't do the elementary pattern test or preliminary program nor any competitions.

So a bit of a mixed bag.

Goals for next year:

All single jumps.

Start working towards single axel.

Start learning more turns and steps

Pass elementary pattern test.

Pass preliminary program.

Maybe compete.

Start making figure skating costumes.

See yuzuru hanyu skate again.

Watch a grand prix event in real life.

Keep having a good time.

Next week I might start the year off with a 'heros' theme so I can wear my yuzuru and david bowie shirts.

Had my first adult figure skating class today (fyi I’m a 27yr retired professional ballerina who had spine surgery 2.5 years ago)

I decided after I took a trip to Canada last year (and skating for 4 hours on a outdoor rink in Toronto) I was gonna challenge myself to learn a new skill

Now you may think with the physical, physiological, body shaming torture I went through in ballet.. I may want to stay the fuck away from a sport famous for the exact same traits, or atleast after pushing myself to the limit in ballet so much I was forced to quit, if I was gonna take up skating it would just be to learn the basics and have a fun little hobby.

Well no.. and as my mum has joked too many times “so what Olympics you training for?” I’m not the kind of person who is just ‘aww yeah cute adult hobby too distract from the world burning around us’. I’ll be pushing it as far is possible for said age/physical situation. No fucking Olympics hahahaha.. (although have I already been designing skating dresses and picking out program music in my head already .,.. yes🙃)

Couple of anecdotes from today’s lesson:

*leg mounting at the boards before being allowed to go on ice. Coach: “ohhh I can’t wait to see that on the ice” me: lol yeah me too!

*gets on the ice: falls on a backwards swizzle which has never happened before (have already taught myself all basics + f+b crossovers)

*while practicing spins me explaining that I’m gonna be that problem student that spins to the right but jumps to the left and arguing “is that not allowed LeGaLlY or choreographically?” so watch me in a year spinning in both directions.

Bonus: coach is French Canadian.. how long do you think I’ll keep my mouth shut before making a vm reference.. 🤫
