There is no shame in having a mental illness. As with any illness, we treat it and take medication if necessary. We take care of ourselves to be the best person we can be. We are more than a mental illness. Unfortunately, there are some who cannot see that. All they see is insanity and instability. They see us as less than human. All we ask is that we are understood and accepted. Take the time to understand us and see the person within who has overcome so much to become a better person. I am bipolar and ADHD and I am not ashamed. My ADHD is my superpower. I am more than my mental illness. #EndTheStigma #EndTheStigmaOfMentalHealth #ADHDSuperhero #ADHDSuperPowers #MentalHealthAwareness https://www.instagram.com/p/B9Ah5wLBf5F/?igshid=xti753pnl8fz

Izzy Writes, In Defiance of Despair
I'm good at hyperfocus, especially if there's something too painful to think about and I have something else to look at that I enjoy a lot more . #adhdsuperpower
Today I was able to focus on joy instead of rage, frustration, despair, because I have a writing project that's nearly done.
Today I was able to buckle down, write and edit, and judge the penultimate chapter as good enough to post.
And today I realized that this two part series is now officially novel length. 50,000 words. 38 + 12 is 50.
I'm spending awhile being proud of myself today, and then I'll go reread the whole thing again, maybe work on one of the short stories in Part 2.
A thing I can do, right now, from here, is take advantage of the compartmentalizing skills that come from growing up neurodiverse, to share my joy, my story, my fandom, and maybe it will cheer some people up.
At a bare minimum, revisiting my joy cheers ME up. I'm THIS đŸ€đŸ» CLOSE to done with the main story, 21 chapters!

There’s no single underlying cause for each person’s ADHD symptoms. The causes of ADHD is like an onion with multiple layers. You simply start with one layer and slowly peel away until you get to the core. The fundamentals of a healthy lifestyle (ie, eating real food plant-based diet, regular physical activity, and having a supportive community), applies to everyone. Then, from there you determine what changes you need to deviate from the norm (ie eliminating gluten, dairy, nuts) according to your personal situations. Having the basic nutrition on point is like having basic utility to your home. If you have not electricity, how do you know if your refrigerator or oven is working or not? Without proper nutrition and physical activity, some of the ADHD symptoms could be manifestations of the lack of proper nutrition and physical activities. What does a basic real food plant-based diet for ADHD look like? Each meal should have 4 components: non-starchy vegetable of all colors unprocessed organic protein from both animal and plant sources healthy low-glycemic index carbs healthy unprocessed fats After having the basic lifestyle changes dialed in, any remaining symptoms are your clues to the next onion layer. The gluten in today’s grains causes inflammation and it is also more addicting, which makes you crave and eat more of it. Grains and legumes also contain anti-nutrients such as saponins and lectins. These tiny molecules are extremely challenging to intestinal defense mechanisms and opening the tight junctions in your gut. As a result, it can set off allergic reactions that damage the intestinal wall even more and cause more inflammation. Lectin can pass through the damaged intestinal wall into the bloodstream and bind to insulin receptors and leptin receptors. When this happens, lectins can cause insulin and leptin resistance, which means that your fullness signal is suppressed and that you’ll be hungry even when your body has had more than enough calories. Grains and legumes also contain phytic acid (phytates) that literally binds to essential minerals, such as magnesium, zinc, iron, and calcium, which are already low in kids with ADHD. Grains, such as wheat, barley, and rye, contain gluten that is very difficult for the human body to digest and can also cause inflammation in the intestine and damage the gut lining leading to malabsorption of nutrients. Grains and legumes are poor sources of bioavailable nutrients when compared to meat, seafood, vegetables, and fruits. If you experience digestive symptoms, such as bloating, reflux, abdominal pain, diarrhea or constipation when eating a grain- and legume-rich vegan diet or when eating nuts, beans, seeds, and grain, consider removing these foods from your diet or preparing them differently to reduce lectin. These so called vegan meat substitute is just another hype by food manufacturers to profit on the vegan diet trend. Whatever God has created for a human to consume is already perfect. Why do we have to create a fake product to mimic what God has already made. Besides, if people are so concerned about killing animals. Why do you have to eat something that resembles animal meat. I just don’t get it. Just saying

Your child will eat anything on their own terms when it’s fun and no pressure. I can hear some of you saying, “My kid would never eat any of these foods.” Your kids “would not eat these foods” because they were never exposed to them. Even if you’ve tried before, how many times did you try before giving up? It takes an average of 10-20 times before your picky eater may start to accept and enjoy a new food. Just have fun with your kids and focus on the quality time you’re spending with your kids. It’s okay if he or she refuses initially. That’s totally normal. Don’t force or coercion, just let them be part of the process. Who cares if you waste a couple of bites of carrots or grapes or whatever? Check out these 24 quick and simple ADHD-friendly snack ideas below. PRO TIP: Have your kids help. Kids love to help. It gives them a sense of accomplishment and builds self-confidence. Let your kids use the carrot sticks or celery sticks as spoons to scoop out almond butter or sunflower seed butter, and lick the nut/seed butter off if they don’t want to eat the veggies. Snacks do not always have to be an afterthought. It could be as enjoyable as a meal. I know how easy it is to grab a couple of packages of animal crackers, goldfish crackers, pretzels, and fruit snacks in case your kids got hungry. Did you know some food cause inflammation and unnecessary immune responses that trigger ADHD symptoms, such as hyperactivity, lack of focus (or brain fog in adults), anger, mood swings, agitation, etc? Matcha has skyrocketed in popularity lately, with matcha shots, lattes, teas, and even desserts appearing everywhere from health stores to coffee shops. Coffee is already one of the world’s most commonly consumed beverages, but more and more people realize that they don’t like the jittery feeling they get from a strong cup of coffee. Still, people continue to drink it for tastes and jolt of energy. Matcha offers the same benefits as coffee without nervousness and jitteriness. Despite having less caffeine than coffee, matcha can provide a significantly more extended period of calm and alert states of mind. The caffeine in coffee hits hard and fast. A big hit of caffeine may help ward off drowsiness, but it can also induce heart-racing anxiety, and a crash often follows the intense stimulating effect. Matcha, on the other hand, caffeine from matcha is released slowly. Therefore, the caffeine from matcha promotes a balanced sense of alertness for a longer time (4-6 hours). Not only is matcha loaded with antioxidants, but the secret in matcha is also the high concentration of the amino acid L-theanine, which reduces stress, and promotes a sense of peaceful focus. L-Theanine is a non-protein amino acid found naturally in the green tea plant (Camellia sinensis) and in small amounts in Bay Bolete mushrooms. It is a precursor to GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid) and supports healthy relaxation without drowsiness. Several studies confirm L-Theanine’s ability to boost alpha brain waves and promote states of calm relaxation. 7 Life-Changing Productivity Tips for Kids with ADHD If you have ADHD, it can be challenging to get things done, and completing a task can seem overwhelming or even impossible. By the end of the day, it may feel like you've scratched nothing off your to-do list, which may seem longer now than it was at the beginning of your day. With all these distractions and disruptions we faced every day, it can be hard to focus and get things done. And instead of being productive, you may feel scattered and disorganized. Let's face it, people with ADHD aren't always the most productive bunch. People with ADHD operate differently. But this doesn't mean that we can't get things done. It just takes a little different approach. Here are 7 Life-Changing Productivity tips to help you get things started and finished too. Physical notebook - aka external hard drive; physical visual cue; write down any great fly-by ideas you have before they disappear into the ether. Post-it notes- love them; one task per note mark with check box; each time you check off one box and throw the post it away, it's a little boost of dopamine Make a list or schedule - put all important events, bills due dates & appointments on your phone's reminder, remember to set alerts; make a step-by-step list for complicated tasks. Background music - plugged up leaky holes in my brain, best with headphones. Work in the dark - block out visual distraction; kind of like the spotlight in the theater. Know your peak time - do the most attention-demanding work during your peak time Be mindful - push your brain to do more. The brain is capable of growing and re-shaping. It's called neuroplasticity. That's it.
