at the end of my fucking rope with "conversations" about k12 chronic absenteeism.

#sorry. work rant #next time you read a headline about it think to yourself. why is it schools' job to get kids to come to school.#why do schools have to bend over backward to cater to kids #kids not wanting to go to school is an extremely common occurrence #the difference now is that the responsibility is being shifted off kids and parents and onto schools #i get that schools can do better i really do #i think there is a shared responsibility #but there is a profound belief across society that school is not important and does not matter #and that needs to be addressed too #i'd say 99% of the examples i hear of systemic school problems are actually just examples of individual bad actors #again. schools have issued that need to be addressed! the public school system has profound inequities!#but when the only problems you point out are 'a kid was mean to my kid' or 'a teacher wasn't as nice as they could be'#you're not interested in changing the system #you're interested in changing your kid's experience #and guess what. demonizing school staff sure isn't going to fix anything #at this point I don't see myself ever going back to teaching #you know who will go into teaching? people who don't give a shit.#and that's not going to help anything either.#you can't attract people who care when people who care are punished and chased out #imagine if instead of constantly bringing up the worst possible examples and insisting they are representative of everyone #the good examples were celebrated and rewarded #same thing happens with the medical profession btw #and again. lots of legitimate examples of harm #(i'm fat ffs i know this)#and also I think it's dangerous to have people delegitimizing medicine to the point that crystals are seen as just as valid as a doctor #sorry. separate rant.#but still. delegitimizing professions that require knowledge skill and training is how we get thousands of unqualified people #homeschooling their kids and treating them with herbs they got from their local Etsy witch

I am so f*cking angry right now! Angry at this f*cked up society where you need to be useful, productive, profitable for the economy and other bullsh*t!

I want to be a librarian that makes children want to read and invent their own stories. I want to be surrounded by books and create a warm, friendly, inclusive space for anyone who needs it, the misfot and outcasts that find escape in reading.

But no, I am repeatedly being told that I shouldn't do what I truly want to do as a job because it's not adaptable enough, that I won't find work after I finish my formation and so on.

I am autistic and have EDS. THanks to chronic fatigue, I barely have the energy and ability to do what I love, and society is telling me to renounce to it and learn a job I tolerate at best in order to be profitable? F*ck them! F*ck them all!

I want to spend what little energy I have being happy, vibing in the woods and petting a cat on a snowy winter evening as I read. I want to do what I do best; that is taking care of myself and my loved ones, trying to make the world better on my scale. Not write f*cking contracts for a lawyer or a notary because I have the brain to do it and it pays well. Yes, I would have money, but I would also be miserable doing paperwork all day and collapsing in exhaustion afterwards, not having the time to do what I love, not having the time to be myself.

I am angry, and exhausted, and I hate how this society works, how it squeezes people until they have nothing more to give and then some more. I am angry and exhausted at how disabled people that "aren't disabled enough" (whatever that means) have to try harder to fit in and be useful to society. And I am telling the people who tell me I should not do what I love in my life: I won't be useful if I am miserable and exhausted. But if you let me be, if you give me the time to rest and recover afterwards, I will give freely so much more than what you ask. I will pour my heart in making children happy, in creating a place where everyone is safe and welcome no matter who they are, and IT WILL BE USEFUL. I just need time to take care of myself, and do what I love at a pace I can bear in the long term.

also very curiously I did actually take a semester on the persecution of witchcraft in antiquity and my feminist hippy professor only focused on the women but really glossed over the antisemitism and the intersection of witches and jewish people in medieval christian europe 🤨🤨🤨

#and I feel like so many people who drool over ‘debunking’ witchcraft don’t seem to grasp that no one thought witches were real.#no one actually thought witches existed. I am not sure who enjoys it more when we have to explain that no, hubs and I are not high school sweethearts. We couldn't stand each other 90% of the time. He was an arrogant asshole and I kept stealing his girlfriends. We knew each other as children, our best friends lived next door to each other, and we routinely brawled in the street, complete with me throwing rocks at him.

It was purely the universe clanging our heads together until we both went oh. Been together for 15 years now, and if you had told either of us that in high school, we would have laughed at you.
