I've been trying not to freak out over it (genuinely been doing really good) but I've had a lump in the weirdest spot on my arm since at least November, and it hasn't gone away in the slightest. I'm so nervous about seeing my doctor about it because I really don't want my fears to be true, but also putting it off isn't helping ._.
#like its not bruised its not bumped theres no acne or welts or anything explainable to my common understandings.#its almost visible but it is VERY tangible. and it is not at all on my other arm.#the possible reassurances ive gotten so far are cyst or weird muscle tension. but like. idk.#im gonna try and phone my doc tomorrow to book something. hopefully i remember.#been having some medical moments lately. wild times.#genuinely i have been so so brave about it. barely freaking out at all. i am so normal brave.#batty blogging#text

one good cat thing, I guess:
Cat has horrific chin acne breakout which needs cleaning
Cat is on steroids which give her wicked dry mouth
This means cat gets up to drink water about once an hour or more for the last year
Every time cat drinks she dunks her entire chin in the bowl
By replacing cats water twice an hour I can ensure that her disgusting special fx chin sore is at least getting rinsed with clean water regularly
.... Yay? I guess? I'll fucking take it at this point
#It looked so disgusting this morning but it's draining#So if it keeps draining I just have to worry about wound care and infections#If she'd let me do a hot compress she'd be out of the woods already but it is absolutely not happening#I've been disinfecting it twice a day but it really just needs to drain that's always the problem with her acne#It makes big cysts

if you ever tell someone with acne that their forehead/chest/neck/back/face looks like pizza i genuinely hope your death is as painful as humanly possible <3
#like wow#making fun of something people have no control over and society sees as a moral failure for failing to measure up to beauty standards?#groundbreaking#sorry that the mere SIGHT of my GENETIC AND HORMONAL SKIN CONDITION THAT I HAVE TO LIVE WITH offends you#i'm sure the pain of you having to see someone without clear skin is just as painful as a cyst welling up and making it hurt to smile#i'm sure you making fun of it will magically make me work to fix it (because obviously that's the problem) so hard#because obviously i am unclean#and obviously this isn't you bullying me like i my peers did in high school for having acne#or you bodyshaming me like my parents used to#you're doing a Good Deed by pointing out something Painfully Apparent on my face in the most Degrading Manner possible#just in case i didn't notice it on my own fucking body#and wasn't Properly Ashamed of it

Experienced a massive crash out like two days ago when I started the green pills in my birth control packet (the rest are pink) and since then I’ve been genuinely crazy and angry 24/7 and so so so so upset and literally like twenty minutes ago I started my period and got hit with clarity that I am 1.) an idiot and 2.) extremely unobservant
Like you dumb bitch the green pills are the sugar pill week and you’re no longer taking the hormone your body needs to regulate itself jfc of course you went crazy for a bit. In fairness I’ve never successfully completed a packet of birth control (the last time I tried the pills made me go off the literal rails) and so I just wasn’t thinking when they changed colors because I am stupid and also unobservant I DID read the instructions I just forgor anyway I’m suddenly not angry or crazy anymore :)
#my body produces too much testosterone and not enough estrogen and it causes me to have like. evil crazy periods and bad acne and crazy#thoughts and also ovarian cysts that BURST AND HURT SO BAD so my doctor put me on a bc that’s just estrogen and progestin and#it’s been helping a lot with the crazies and the cysts and stuff so far I think!! but my period didn’t start for two days once I started the#sugar pill week so I think my brain just didn’t connect it because the last time I was on bc five years ago if I even forgot my pill by 15#minutes I was bleeding BAD and assumed they must all be like that#I’ve also had a lot going on in my life lately so I just wasn’t thinking. and I can’t stress this enough. I am stupid.#but anyway I started my period during fucking wicked so thank you Ariana grande

Facts about your body after you turn 25, AKA things I wish someone had told me:
you will get hair in fun new places. this is normal and fine.
these places include (but are not limited to) if you don't already have them: your asscrack, your back, your ears, and moles. it's fine.
some of you, dick or not, will also lose hair. this is normal, but also if you have ovaries maybe get this checked out for PCOS.
your acne will probably change. some people get better. some people get worse. it's fine.
your nails will probably get an infection or a fungus at least once in your life. this is fine. (but also let your doc know).
how you gain and lose fat and where you do so will change. this is fine.
how you smell will change. this is fine. (fishy or rotten smells mean doctor time though)
if you have a prostate: it gets harder to pee. prostates enlarge as you age (get this checked regularly). this is fine.
if you do not have a prostate: it gets easier to pee but not in a good way. as in as you get older, your pelvic floor muscles tend to lose some of their strength. this makes it harder to keep pee in. this is fine.
all breasts and pectorals eventually sag, with the rest of your body. this is fine.
a decent percent of the population will experience a cyst at least once. some of you will make up for the rest with multiple. this is fine, but keep them checked out by a doctor. (sometimes this is a condition! get checked for that too!)
almost half of everyone gets hemorrhoids. it's a good idea to just expect them since your chances of getting them get higher the older you are. your toilet will look like a murder scene. definitely get your booty checked out BUT this is almost always perfectly normal. just eat more fiber. "but I already-" eat more fiber. and maybe suck it up and buy some hemorrhoid cream, you'll thank me later.
yes, this means you will probably need to make an appointment for a doctor to see your butthole. it's okay. not only do they really not care but 1. they've seen weirder that day and 2. they'd far rather you see them now than later when it's been going on for forty years and now it might be colon cancer. it's okay. consider it a rite of passage.
adults need more sleep than children. don't believe the myth that you need less than they do. that is capitalist propaganda to make you give up more of your life to the work grind, comrade.
vitamins and medicine, something you are more likely to take as you get older, sometimes make the toilet turn weird colors. it's okay.
if you still have your tonsils and get those little stones and get sore throats more than once a year you should plan on getting those suckers out before the tonsils cause an infection and go septic. if you're getting stones at all you should get those reevaluated every year, especially if the stones are bigger than a needlehead (or get bigger over time). it's gross and yucky. I don't care. get them looked at before you end up in the hospital.
you'll probably need to add foot support to your shoes if you don't already do. this is fine.
your body changes. sometimes it can feel sorta weird and upsetting that it isn't what it used to be. that is okay, and it is okay to be upset. just know that this is normal, it's normal to be upset or not upset, but don't let it hinder your quality of life. trans or cis, there is a certain level of acceptance you just gotta give your body and forgive your body for as you get older. it's okay.
it's okay. I promise.

Cursing my father’s bloodline for giving me hormonal cystic acne.
#it’s not bad because I only get one or two under the skin cysts before my period#but they hurt#and I have skin picking ocd disorder and I make them worse#and they never go away unless you poke a hole in them so acne cream can reach them#all of my medical problems come from his side of the family#but also my curly hair and man-killing cheekbones come from him#so I guess I can thank him for that and that alone

Feel free to let me know if my input is unwanted, but I had some thoughts that I wanted to share as a nonbinary woman with PCOS.
First. It is true that PCOS can affect the way that afab folks view their gender. For me, personally, I’ve found that the dichotomy between traditionally feminine and traditionally masculine traits in my body contributed significantly to my personal conception of gender. This, along with the strong sense of body neutrality that I actively fostered since puberty, has led to my more introspective ideas on gender and ambivalent attitude towards my own body.
That being said. I am, and will always be, afab. The biological shifts in my body that muddied the waters of binary sex occurred during puberty. And, quite honestly, I think erasing that fact a) does a disservice to the transfems who have a very, very different experience in their bodies and b) kind of does a disservice to us, by failing to acknowledge the formative years of our lives that we spent slotted neatly into the binary.
I do want to note that I haven’t personally witnessed any afab folks with PCOS trying to co-opt the term “transfem,” but it’s also entirely possible that I’m just running in very different online circles. I also will admit that I’ve only recently been venturing into and properly educating myself on intersex issues, and that I may not have all of the correct vocabulary. If I’m overstepping and full of shit, please feel free to let me know!
Really not so sure how I feel about the idea of redefining transfem to include people with PCOS if for no other reason than it muddies the water of what the term transfem is generally understood to mean and also totally crowds the kind of people that term was originally coined for out of their own identity.
I'm an """amab""" intersex transfem. I was surgically altered as an infant, I was assigned male at birth and while the records are inaccessible i have good reason to believe I was born with PMDS that was dishonestly characterized as a "congenital inguinal hernia repair" (the scars are way too big and in completely the wrong location for that to actually be true).
Anyways, this is not a matter of inclusion/exclusion. Its a matter of people with PCOS generally outnumbering "amab transfems" by over 10 to 1.
By redefining the term like this, you are turning "amab transfems" into an extreme minority within the identity their label was coined to describe. It's a total appropriation of an identity label by a group that massively outnumbers the original people that label has been used to describe.
And it absolutely is appropriation in the truest sense of the word, wherein a group takes over a label or practice such that the original people that term was for can no longer meaningfully be understood by that term.
Intersex transfems obviously do exist, I am one after all, but I find it endlessly frustrating how often the term "intersex transfem" isn't being used to refer to transfems like me, but instead to refer to people who are blatantly attempting to appropriate an identity label.
I also find it endlessly frustrating the way people seem to invoke the spectre of intersex transfems as a cudgel against other trans women in discussions about transmisogyny. Trans women/fems are my sisters and my community, the people trying to weaponize me against them are not.
#libby shouts into the void#intersexism#pcos#I could also discuss the difference in gender identities and the conception of our bodies that exists between me and my twin sister#we both have pcos and my sister has the no period-awful acne-struggling to lose weight version#and I’ve got the ridiculously heavy period-ovarian cysts-weight gain version#and I do think it’s very interesting how differently we view our bodies despite having the same upbringing#but that didn’t feel entirely relevant to the discussion at hand and nobody wants to read about me and my cis sister in this thread
