EMILIA :D i have so many thoughts on her (i will however preface this by saying emilia is one of my favorite characters of all time <3) so this is probably gonna veer into vaguely meta/analysis territory and it will be Long. (also i love ur emilia icon HAH) anyway without further ado...

Sexuality Headcanon: BI ACE. if not bi ace how come she has the color palette..???? that and i simply think emisuba are bi4bi fr fr. and more specifically i think emilia is demisexual!!

Gender Headcanon: ok so.... this one got unexpectedly long but T^T i do think that emilias relationship with femininity and her gender and her biological sex could be explored given she looks exactly like satella, and then theres puck's slight sexist remarks sometimes, and also her. apparently not knowing where babies come from. and like??? do half elves get periods?? how'd puck explain that one??? that and i do think the idea of trans emilia would be very interessting to explore yes (though i do think trans ftm or nonbinary emilia would be more interesting in terms of like. emilia is moving away from satella, but emilia would probably think about if that makes emilia themself a coward for doing so. but also i think id be eviscerated by 90% of the fandom if i explored those ideas in depth T^T). and like... in general, emilia's Whole Character is characterized by a loss of control over a lot of things in her life across so many routes in rezero. :((( which is not 100% specific to gender and biological sex of course but it could factor in a bit. because theres also. well. the implication that she probably was gonna be (trigger warning) a sex slave if that dude who tried to enslave her in frozen bonds succeeded. her whole character is all about being seen as Not Human by others, or being seen as an object, or being controlled, being infantilized, etc etc :(( which is sometimes by the narrative, sometimes by other characters, sometimes by tappei, and also sometimes by the fandom itself.

A ship I have with said character: emisuba 100%, even if i have some mixed feelings on it as of rn. like they are THE main ship of the series, and theyve been through all these ups and downs together. like subaru's earnest desire and determination to help her and save her Is Admirable, though of course he does go right into Obsession and Possessive Feelings, which was Brutally Rebuked in arc 3 and very well-written (though of course i hate some people's small brain takes on emisuba and emilia and arc 3 T^TT). like i LOVE seeing different sides to emilia and while subaru brings out her sweetness (she is SO SOFT with him... she DOES care about him so much!!!!) he's also brought out her rage and despair in arcs 3 and 4. kiss of death loop / greed if emilia is like giving subaru exactly what he wanted before - an emilia that only has eyes for Him. and Only Him. but it's all wrong T^TT and then theres like. all the other ifs too where emilias either dead or Generally Mentally Unwell - she of course has that distinct lack of control in wrath and pride if over a lot of things :((

though like. i LOVE emisuba's parallels - they were very lonely people, are connected by satella breathing down their necks (metaphorical or literal), and i think their personalities just click well together!! T^T that and like. theyre capable of bringing out either the best or the worst in each other, along with all the layers of what rbd does to their relationship (like. subaru dying way too many times to save her. puck killing subaru and the whole world bc of her death. emilia being unaware about rbd and the witch cult at first and how her previous parent figures are Now Archbishops. satellas involvement. and the question of does subarus rbd take away free will from other people when he can just reset? and the Loads of guilt emilia is gonna feel about this. etc etc.) all of which i think is fascinating.

and like. i love how they dont get together right away after arc 4. like it makes SENSE to me i dont get those people who complain that they didnt start dating and then they point fingers at emilia for not reciprocating. like they Clearly Like Like each other, you just get the sense that theyre saving more of a romantic pursuit for later, u know? and it makes sense to me!! like speaking as someone with some Serious Romantic Relationship experience - yeah going from friendship to like overt romance and then actually maintaining your relationship can be Very Tricky. especially when both emilia and subaru are mentally ill and not completely prepared for it bc there is just. different expectations. and theyve never been in a romantic relationship before. and theres also like All Their Trauma that they havent fully addressed or gotten over at all. like NEITHER of them are fully prepared yet and theres all the chaos of arcs 5-8 happening so theres no time to go right into that stuff right now either. and i love that tappei did that. and tbh i think all the people who think emisuba shouldve been in a romantic relationship post arc 4 are Media Illiterate. like guys. it is completely fine and Healthy for emisuba to take their time with pursuing a romantic relationship with each other. they LITERALLY have all the time in the world.

HOWEVER. tappei stop infantilizing emilia im so tired T^TT like all the stuff about how she doesnt know what sex is and all that.... and it almost feels like her not 100% knowing what romantic love is is kind of framed in the same way as her not knowing sex??? like the whole thing about emilia being pure and innocent (derogatory) - tappei pls im so tired T^TT it just feels like to me, arcs 3 and 4 did all this work of debunking the idea that emilia is this perfect angel who can do no wrong. she is Human. with flaws. and desires. and then tappei refuses to stop making her clueless about stuff like politics T^T let her develop!! bc by the time we get to arc 8 its like. it feels like emilia Still hasnt been through nearly as much development as subaru so narratively speaking they still feel unequal. like i know we had to focus on other people in arcs 5 and 6 and 7 and we still got some great emilia moments. but Still. like i do feel like emilia should have had a little more involvement starting from ARC 2 from the get go. like yes she already has her Moments. but like id love to see her be way more active in the plot, or at least see a bit more glimpses into her mental state. (which i think is partly whats added to some audiences missing the point and preferring rem over emilia and then all the rem vs emilia wars that have happened.) and she NEEDS development very badly. while its not impossible At All to be in a healthy relationship when both parties have a lot of trauma, even if one has more trauma than the other, its still like. narratively speaking emisuba is unbalanced. subarus had So Much Development and it feels like emilia is left by the wayside despite being like. the deuteragonist and female lead of the entire story? T^T it just feels like subarus allowed to be way more messy and human while emilia its like. shes not Allowed to be as messy and human despite the fact that arcs 3-4 was meant to showcase this. it just feels like it doesnt continue enough in later arcs. it feels like tappei just doesnt want to let emilia be more flawed T^T and by flawed i mean. flawed in a way that isnt just making her look very Stupid to Certain Audiences sometimes.

anywayyy this section is way too long but special shoutout to ramilia and reinhard/emilia. i think those ships have the potential to be very sweet or very unhinged. and i like the parallels that each ship has. and big shoutout to Canon Ramilia moments (them holding hands in season two of the anime. and also ramilia hugging in arc 8 ch14 <3). and i do think reinhard/emilia would be interesting in pride if particularly given how they both end up.....

A BROTP I have with said character: SPECIAL SHOUTOUT TO ANNEROSE AND EMILIA i love annerose's little crush on emilia and annerose's "emily" nickname (which emilia later uses as an alias in arcs 7-8). yes i do interpret annerose's crush as romantic in nature. but also iirc annerose was the one that taught emilia that babies come from kissing. which i absolutely Despise because GOD TAPPEI why are u having a nine year old teach a seventeen year old this........... BUT OTHER THAN THAT i love the annerose-emilia dynamic and the absolute sass annerose gives subaru. i think annerose and petra are super funny bc they have crushes on emilia and subaru respectively and then their little kid brains explode bc emisuba are so cute and lovey dovey together right in front of them. i think theyre hilarious.

A NOTP I have with said character: literally like..... almost any fanon version of emisuba. or like emisuba but emilia never finds out about rbd. thatd be my worst nightmare. like T^TT please. please no. like i know emilias a fictional character but the way people talk about her sometimes Literally makes me ill (metaphorical). like if you talk about a fictional person like that, how are you acting with real people...

A random headcanon: SHES FERAL. SHES FERAL. I THINK SHES SO CAPABLE OF BEING FERAL AND TAPPEI SHOULD JUST LET HER GO HAYWIRE. like. she was like what. like nine or smth. and she KILLED pandora a shit ton of times. and then theres emilias greed if self being absolutely Batshit like imagine the amount of times shes frozen everything and killed people in failed loops??? T^T like. let her go off tbh. i want her DRENCHED in blood. i think she should snap. have a little carrie moment.

General Opinion over said character: i LOVE EMILIA WITH MY WHOLE HEART. but i do think she deserves a lot better :(( both in terms of writing and in terms of. how shes seen by so much of the fandom. like both in and out of universe shes blamed for things out of her control. she barely knows shit about the witch cult. she has no idea about rbd. shes dealing with her own trauma regarding lying and others sacrificing herself for her (remember whats happened to fortuna and petelgeuse and archie? T^T) and hurting others on accident. shes been so dehumanized and lonely and alone that seeing someone like subaru care so much about her is Completely Foreign to her. hes like in pain and sticking his neck out So Much for her and its like??? shes got no say in that either hah... T^T like i feel like sometimes people forget that subaru made the choice to follow emilia. there are literal routes in this story where subaru does not follow emilia and has a better life (usually at the cost of. a lot of people dying though). hes chosen to follow emilia over and over again. emilia tries her best with the cards she's been dealt, and she has no control over all of these higher forces trying to destroy her for one reason or another. and with her upbringing its like T^T being told what to do and who you are and generally being Spoken Over your whole life does not make you remotely confident or competent at much. it teaches you helplessness. and that youre useless on your own. which is what i think has been happening with emilia T^T i just think its sad that even how audiences see her reflects how the rest of the world in universe sees her. like she is a victim here also. she is DOOMED by the narrative all the time as well. and post-arc 4, too, she IS MORE ACTIVE and also trying her best!!! pls!!! (special shoutout to her and the emilia camp IMMEDIATELY going "yes we NEED to get to subaru quickly LETS GO TO VOLLACHIA" in arc 7.) people forget all of this and blame her for every little thing instead.

I backed Working Guys on Kickstarter - at the PDF level cause I am a broke college student, for context because I have read a ton of female and nonbinary (femme passing) perspectives on sex work but want a diversity on it. Also I have more way more fictional bi sex worker characters then one is bi ace spectrum maybe should have, but: 🤷‍♀️

Nice to meet you! Thanks so much for the compliments, this made me happy to read. I've also read so many books and zines where sex workers talk about their lives, but yeah, the vast majority were women (mostly cis, a few trans) with only a smattering of non-binary people and the occasional trans man or cis man outside of that. I hugely value the women I've worked alongside and those who've shared their stories with me and the broader public, and I want to do the same for the transmasc perspective.

Also there's a couple of contributions to the anthology touching on being ace and a sex worker that might especially appeal to you, which I hope you like!

3. How did your oc discover themself? Did something cause them to question, or did they always know?

Marlow: New choice, but I'm thinking he figured out their identity through Felicity when he was still training with Team Spark. Like Felicity was talking about when everything finally clicked for her, that she wanted to be a girl but felt she was held back because "well just because I look feminine doesn't mean I AM feminine, so wouldn't it be a lie? And then I realized it didn't matter because either way I felt like a girl". And that like. activates something in Marlow's brain because he was like. I. Is that not normal. I'm not sure what their bi awakening would've been though. I'm pretty sure that would've been a thing Marlow always knew.

Felicity: See above for how, but I'm thinking she realized she was a girl when she was a preteen or so? Maybe even younger, since she'd have been pondering it as a kid after learning about Baxtor and Wyle being trans. She never really felt comfortable with masculine terms though, but then again she didn't feel feminine either. I'm thinking she was a little lost on how she felt exactly and identified as nonbinary and then cis and then back until she realized she was a trans girl.

Aisling: Always knew she was a lesbian, she wears her heart on her sleeves and she's had too many crushes to count. She realized she was ace later though, probably when her peers started talking about sex and stuff and she felt ambivalent

6. How does your oc feel about labels? Theirs, or in general?

Marlow: I think he likes knowing exactly what they are, so they do like labels for himself and in general.

Felicity: Probably more ambivalent about it towards others, but cares a lot more for her own. She likes having a name for what she is.

Aisling: I think she's more ambivalent to labels. Like she knows exactly what her preferences are but doesn't really think about the preference itself too hard. Doesn't care about anyone else's.

8. Have they had struggles with their identity, be it due to internal or external reasons?

Marlow: Can't really see much for him! I think both their journeys went pretty smoothly all things considered.

Felicity: I think she took a long time to really figure out who she was. Like I said, she changed labels a lot before she realized she was a girl. I don't think there was any pushback, it was just about her internal struggle. Now that I think about it, it likely played a part in her general identity issues where she feels like she's responsible for a tribe and culture that no longer exists, yet she barely has any connection to, and her insecurity over her "failure" to use aura properly. I'm also thinking her aura might not reflect her gender because it's not able to do much at all, so she had to use more traditional methods to transition, which likely contributed to her "impostor syndrome" about it I suppose? "well maybe it's like my evolution. maybe my body is rejecting the change because i'm not worth it." :(

Aisling: If you can count being bitchless as struggling with her lesbianism than sure

Van Helsing, Jekyll, and Mrs. Frankenstein (Victor's mom) are siblings with Abraham and Henry being twins and Caroline being a few years younger (specific ages will have to wait until my brain decides that doing math is worth it)

(they are all a mix of Dutch, British, and Swiss btw)

(yes this means that Victor is Van Helsing's and Jekyll's nephew)

Van Helsing formed the HOSC to essentially bring light to all of the scientific discoveries that are happening (Jekyll's serum, any supernatural being he encountered, the time machine, Victor's creation, Griffin's invisibility, and more) but not without the house members' consent

Now let's get into the plot- a good amount of people in this universe have powers (almost all of the members of both societies have powers)

They are as follows:

Van Helsing- gains an ability of whatever type of entity he conquers (if he were to slay a vampire he would only get one of the abilities shared within all vamps. Ie teleportation) as well as natural immunity to most (not all) supernatural attacks and anomalistic mastery (or that could just be from his job)

Jekyll- technically he speaks to Hyde through telepathy as well as having telekinesis

Hyde- telepathy like Jekyll (because of course) and the ability to teleport objects and people away from and to him

(Jekyll and Hyde are forced to work together because they are not able to do what the other can as well as the other)

Victor- weather control (I just wanted to reference the movies, I think he would use it to help him animate the creation)

Griffin- now I know you might think that I'm going to make his invisibility his power, but that's not the case. He can however talk to animals, he just doesn't want anyone to know.

Time traveler- let's get the obvious out of the way, he can see any point in time (past present, and future), and it proved very helpful (but overwhelming and contributes to his time blindness)

Sherlock- like the time traveler, he could be obvious (giving him some kind of hyper-intelligence) so I'll give him tactical analysis and the hyper intertellince (or he could not have the ability and just be that smart, I haven't decided yet)

Watson- since he's a physician and royal army surgeon (according to Wikipedia), giving him a healing ability (more so healing others) would be a fair but obvious move. However, I want his medical knowledge to be utilized (meaning he would use actual medical practices instead of relying on powers) so the proper techniques would still have to be used (more so internal and really bad external wounds, broken bones, and deep/wide cuts being examples)

Gwen- now she could be a little difficult (considering the fact she is someone else's oc and I'm a bit scared to ask because it might look like I'm stealing their idea) so I'll move on for now. (she could have enhanced reflexes as it would be really helpful)

Switching gears to more general ideas (I'm looking for a reason to segway into the investigative committee's powers)

Griffin and the time traveler don't use their names for reasons they'd rather not admit (it has something to do with their experiments)

Van Helsing and Jekyll may make it look like they hate Victor (because he's an irresponsible, spoiled, college dropout who can be a bit of a nervous wreck at the most inconvenient times possible) but they're still trying to help him get over everything (and to take some god damn responsibly for once in his life)

Van Helsing and Watson are transcribing past journals, audio logs (the series takes place in the 21st century), and more as a part of the whole "bring light to all of the scientific discoveries that are happening" thing the HOSC does

The HOSC is very queer (not really with each other but you know)

Jekyll is a trans, ace, gay man (maybe Hyde too, he hasn't really thought about it, both he/him though)

Victor is pansexual and nonbinary (he/they)

Griffin is a bi demi-boy (also he/they)

Sherlock seems to be more interested in his work than in relationships (aroace cis man)

Watson is more open to the idea than Sherlock is though, at some point being stated to have said "I think everyone looks nice, does that mean im attracted to everyone? No not everyone, but certain people attract me more than others." (doesn't put a label on gender either but uses he/it/they)

Time Traveler is a theatre kid so he is probably the most open with his sexuality and gender (gay nonbinary dude using they/it)

Again, I have no idea for Gwen as she is not my character (well none of them are, I might have one at some point but thats not what I'm here for) so I either ask the creator or leave her as unlabelled (which might not be a bad idea actually) although the picrew shows her as aroace

Van Helsing might be the only straight one (I say might be because he doesn't know, still uses he/him though)

Utterson and Poole started it after Jekyll faked his death, which happened about a week after Van Helsing got back from killing Dracula (so it was like 7 years ago based on Quincey jr's age in the main story)

I'm now imagining a very stressed Van Helsing hearing about his brother supposedly killing himself because his latest experiment went tits up (excuse me while I try not to cry)

Their powers are:

Utterson- since he's a lawyer, giving him something like Holmes' hyper-intelligence (if it's his ability at all) is kinda obvious so some kind of adaptive ability could be fun (body language analysis could be useful)

Poole- super speed to help him with all of his duties (and in case of emergencies)

Mycroft- I kinda want his to be out of the park but still useful in a way, fuck it he can turn off others' abilities either by touching them or snapping his fingers

Walton- some kind of internal GPS for his traveling

Kemp- I tried reading the invisible man wiki to see what kind of doctor he is (he did go to a medical school so that could help) but couldn't really find anything so im going in sorta blind. I'm just going to make him a shapeshifter

Now that that is out of the way, few more things until pride shit

If someone pisses off Mycroft, their powers are just gone for the day (which could be devasting if they piss him off during a very important mission)

Walton being the youngest (younger than Hyde but older than Victor) means he is often the fastest and most agile of the group (until Poole uses his super speed obviously)

He's basically the group's son (at least to most of them, Mycroft might have some warming up to do)

Now, pride:

Utterson- Jekyll's husband (cis bi man, uses he/him)

Poole- unlabeled sexuality (aro he/it user)

Mycroft- like Van Helsing, he might be the only straight one (uses he/him)

Walton- trans, demisexual man (he/them/it)

happy pride month ! i think i’ve touched on my lgbtq+ hcs for the characters a couple of times (one was an edit that the official gone instagram liked 🫦 ) but i’ve never gone into excessive detail for my choices so i thought i’d finally do that here !!

sam: pan, he/him. will genuinely just fuck anything that breathes. first kiss was quinn and refuses to admit he actually liked it

caine: bi, sometimes ftm depending on my mood (ain’t no way he didn’t name himself regardless of the hc the dramatic mf), he/him

astrid: ace lesbian, she/her. she grew up religious so she had no idea what was goin on. sam helped her realise that even if she did like sex, it wouldn’t be w him 😭

diana: bi, she/her. i have no notes she just is

quinn: bi, gender fluid, he/they/she. hasn’t made a single sound decision in her life and refuses to start now. also wears fedoras and that is a very bisexual thing to do. had a crush on edilio at one point i feel it in my bones. also caine. also sanjit. just very bisexual. falls in love VERY easily

drake: pan, ftm, he/him. the misogyny is internalised due to both trauma and yk, the patriarchy and i will die on this hill (totally named himself after his grandfather). i also like hcing angry aggressive violent characters as pan bc pansexuals are stereotyped as the bubbly happy person and i don’t like that

lana: bi, she/they. she gives me mean bisexual vibes.

brianna: aroace, nonbinary, they/them. they said nope to EVERYTHING.

jack: trans ftm, het, he/they. i like the idea of a wimpy trans guy getting the power of super strength. it’s refreshing.

albert: ace, he/him. i feel like he cares more about reinventing capitalism than sex

dahra: demisexual, she/her. was torn between elwood and mary the ENTIRE series i’m sure of it

elwood: trans ftm, het, he/him. i can’t explain this he just like,,, is

mary: lesbian, she/her. nothing to say except my sweet little lesbian deserved better

howard: gay, he/him. in love w orc i can feel it

orc: bi, he/him. once again, howard. but also astrid.

anna: mtf trans, lesbian, she/her. i have no basis for this besides thinking it’d be funny if sam decided he needed to date someone and randomly chose the trans fucking lesbian like they’d probably talk about girls together 😭

sanjit is probably vehemently he/him cishet but has very strong bi wife energy. also ironically flirts w EVERYONE bc he is very secure in his sexuality we stan

i think that’s most of the main characters plus some extras i’ve thought about off handedly but i love hearing other peoples hcs so pls god tell me i want to hear them all

okay. here's the list of pmmm headcanons, because it's 4am:

madoka is a femme lesbian who uses she/fae. and she's trans. very pog. the character of all time.

homura is a butch lesbian, aro (i know canonially, if anything, she's ace, but this is kin projection and i also just think it'd be cool), and nonbinary. doesn't care much about pronouns, mostly because she's been too busy stuck in timeloops to care about them.

sayaka is bi and nonBInary. they/them. it's canon in my brain. sayaka thinks cargo shorts and hawaiian shirts are the pinnacle of fashion.

kyoko is a lesbian and doesn't care about gender. just here to have a good time.

mami is a wildcard in my brain. i mostly think of her as aroace and think it would be super funny if she was the only cis one.

nagisa is a Creature. that is all. no elaboration needed.

kyubey is nonbinary, but evil, and simulatonously transphobic at the same time. probably like a transmed in the weird "wow, you're not trans abd not miserable? clearly, you are Fake Trans" way. he also says slurs.

DBD survivor sexuality and gender headcanons

(Some of these headcanons come with explanations from my brain)

(Part 1, Characters I have so far.)

Dwight: he gives me Asexual and homoromantic (so Gay/Ace) vibes. He’s probably Cis.

Meg: Cis Lesbian, she just has Lesbian vibes to me and I don’t know what it is.

Claudette: trans girl, transitioned pretty early on because her parents were accepting.

Jake: Nonbinary and Asexual. He uses He/Him pronouns still but doesn’t feel fully like a man but isn’t entirely Agender so he likes the term Nonbinary

Nea: I’d say either Questioning or a Cis/Het Ally. She’s best friends with both Meg and Claudette so she knows some “insider stuff” because of her besties

Bill: Ally, he doesn’t really care what’s in your pants/what you identify as and tries his best even if he does slip up with terms. Tries his very best when it comes to the different flags but sometimes he forgets.

David is a confirmed gay man, I don’t really have any further headcanons about it.

Ace: he is some flavour or queer even he can’t quite figure out. When asked he’d answer with “I’m just me.” so it’s left at that.

Feng: Ally, tries her best to understand. She was always kinda happy whenever a character in a game she would play was confirmed queer, liking the diversity and representation, so she’s not surprised in the slightest about all the lgbt survivors here with her.

Kate: Bisexual, she loves men and Women so much honestly. Some of her songs about love may have been written as neutral as possible just because of this.

Francis: Bi but doesn’t really care to come out to people. Others will know if it becomes relevant.

Jeff: Gay

Zarina: Bi or Pan. She only really realized around the time the fog took her so she thought she was a Lesbian for the longest time.

Mikaela: Lesbian

Vittorio: Questioning/Queer. He’s always found some kind of fancy in men but never really explored it. He also never really explored if he was attracted to women. If asked he’ll just say he doesn’t know.

Felix: Bisexual. Took him a little while of being in the fog to figure it out though.
