A new ultraconservative brotherhood in Russian universities
New joint reporting from the outlets Holod and Groza Media details how the Brotherhood of Academists, a political organization founded by ultraconservative media oligarch Konstantin Malofeev, has opened chapters in at least 20 Russian universities in recent years. The group’s student members, who refer to themselves as “Academists,” meet with and attend lectures from politicians and right-wing figures, participate in various projects to support Russian troops in Ukraine, write denunciations against public figures who oppose the invasion, and sometimes even join the war themselves.
While these activities might all seem like ones that would fit on the agenda of Rosmolodezh, the federal agency that handles youth affairs in Russia, the Academists see their mission as distinct from that of state-sponsored organizations. The group’s ultimate goal is to help Russia fulfill its spiritual destiny of becoming a Christian Empire, and the top coordinator of its student chapters dismisses Kremlin initiatives as insufficiently “organic” to effect real change. Within 20 years, the Academists believe, Russia is capable of becoming a “world leader in scientific and technological development,” putting the 21st century on track to become a “golden age of Russian culture” and an “era of Russia’s ideological and cultural dominance in the world.”

Tomorrow, on February 14th, 2024, Indonesia will hold "the world's biggest single-day election", and people are anxious. How can they not? From before the candidates are announced, there were behind the scene deceit happening which was exposed in a documentary just a few days before the election day.
Tumblr media
The situation is dire. It is reported that a big portion Indonesian citizens who stay in London and Malaysia can't vote because the Electoral Commision claim they ran out of ballots, which doesn't make sense because all eligible voters are automatically registered and ballots should be provided accordingly. Meanwhile, just today, there are a few academist, experts, author, and others who have spoken about the documentary, Dirty Vote, were reported/sued by people who supported the very candidate whose the documentary was exposing.
If you want to know why people are panicking, and why there's a very strong movement to push against candidate no. 02, Prabow-Gibran, I recommend you to read this succint and bold report by Allain Nairn. But in short, that candidate has cheated their way against the law even make a whole new constitution court ruling so that the son of the incumbent president is eligible to be the candidate of the vice president. Not only that, he's also a war criminal that rebrands himself as "cuddly grandpa", in hope that he can gather support from citizens from lower education and the working class. Which, he massively did btw, his electability score is the highest among the three candidates.
We are preparing for the worst. We are nervous and afraid. Our democracy is on the line. I just want to say that in times like these, it's important to be even more aware about what's happening around you. Because people with power can fuck you up for a lifetime without you noticing.
I try to be hopeful for tomorrow. I'm still not giving up yet, not until the final result is announced.

Do you have any headcanon or opinion for Shigeru ships?
I could talk tons about them but I'm not sure which one you refer to so I'm just gonna talk about all of them 😊
ShigeTsurugi - My FAVORITE Shigeru rareship. They gave me senpai-kohai love where Shigeru live for Tsurugi's validation❤️. The height gap, the age gap, the hierarchial relationship ❤️. Shigeru's biggest turn on is Tsurugi calling him "good boy" when he behaved ❤️(His second best turn on is when Tsurugi scold him, RAWR). I love writing them in my native language because we have honorifics for senior ❤️
ShigeSerena - My most written Shigeru rareship. I originally shipped them simply because they both are just very beautiful??? But when I started writing them, I then realized they have so much potential stories. They could meet from 1000 different occasions and their story is easy to write because they don't share the same field. Funfact Shigesere noncon fics are the most viewed in shortest time among all fics I've written, and I've written 81 fics so that means something.
ShigeHikari - They are giving me groupie love. You meant to tell me Dawn adore Gary because she knew his grandfather from TV, and because he makes great poetry. Seriously kudos for Hikari for discovering Gary's hidden talent. Not everyone can do that.
ShigeLillie - A more respected form of groupie love. (Most) Academist respect each other, hence I envision them to be so. Heavy on Lillie because Gary is a more renowned and experienced figure. This ship along with ShigeLusa are the hardest to write.
ShigeLusamine - Based on the Indigo League season, Gary seemed to prefer the company of older women. And this one actually shares common interest with him about experiment and research (though in different degree and moral ethics, with Lusamine in-game being more more extreme)
ShigeAsahi - Both are my FAVORITE characters. What's stopping them? They are in a team, they are beautiful and they are perfect. Like Lusamine, I think Asahi is one older woman Shigeru actually respect due to the shared interest and fields.
ShigeKoharu - I'm sorry but they are giving me cousin incest, that does make this ship better, huh? With their similar socioeconomic background from the same region, similar naming pattern (Oak and Cherry? Seriously?), no one can tell me they aren't at least distantly related. Their personality kinda contrasted and they might not be dating, but what they are is cousin and fucking. This take is not for everyone though. I personally started shipping this from reading a fic where they are not related, but they were friends with benefit before they dated, and it is sooo good
ShigeHaruka - The definition of a clean slate and a perfect canvas to write any story. Brunetteshipping is one of the classic Anipoke ships and one of my favorite. Sadly I am not creative enough to write on a blank canvas, so I don't have any idea for this ship yet.
Now onto to headcanons. I actually adjust each character to serve different stories. Like, if a story is rated noncon then the character has to play villain.
I do write Shigeru with consistent traits though, because I write him based on the greatest person on earth, me 😊.
I'm not sure which ship you want headcanons for, if I write them all this tumblr will explode. So I will give you my Shigeru hcs that applied to all my stories. Some are :
- Generous. You will find Gary almost always paying in my stories, because it is just the norm here; Due to the strong Arabic influence, men are expected to pay, and even when hanging out with fellow guys, they don't split bill, but take turn to take the bill. Gary is already paying for group trips anyway for his cheerleaders in the series, so is this even a hc? I can't say unless I delve deep into Japanese bill etiquette first.
- Driving. I live in car-centric country, and (again) , it is the norm for guys to pick up, drive, and drop off their date or friends to destinations as an act of service. So my stories take place in a car, or a car park, or on the way to the car park... (No I'm not American 😊) Again this is reversed in TsuruShige where Gary is the passanger princess.
- In-general materialistic setting. This is not a Gary hc but my writings in general, even in other fandoms. You will find me writing a lot about luxury in the story, it is because the author is a material girl and a big fan of American classic The Great Gatsby 😊. I also find the Gary character is in line with the setting, he has only several episodes in the series but he has the most wardrobes. The beach shirt, the archeologic costume, the yukata, the winter puff jacket. Gary is a material girl like me 😊
- Flirty. Does Gary flirt or does he not? I honestly don't see him as someone who is hesistant to express his interest, directly or not. He is always outspoken and brash. Like his expedition, Gary loves the thrill of the chase. The downside of this trait is I cannot write beyond that(yet). I was a serial monogamist, I had 6 exes, casual dating was my hobby before I got married. I often lost interest after I got the person, so my story is 95% courting and that's all, then it's ending.
- Partygoer : Season 1 Gary was wild(WHO APPROVED THAT SCRIPT). To be honest, I just love clubs, I spent my early 20s in clubs. That's why a lot of my stories take places in clubs or a party. Lately, I no longer waste myself in a club like I used to, but that doesn't mean I stopped doing it. Just because we no longer see that side of Gary in newer season, doesn't mean he couldn't do it off-screen.
- Specialized genius : I love to emphasize Gary is a research scientist and a geneticist, since that's what he actually do in the series, he is a certified geneticist. With the Aerodactyl revival episode, he is a confirmed prodigy. Anyway, having this kind of job allow him to travel the world, which makes it easy for me to set the backstories.
- Rich, famous, and priveledged. These are canon, I just love to highlight them because these make writing backstory easy. Everyone knows Gary, he is on the TV. His grandad is on TV. His granduncle is too. He's been everywhere, he had a scientific breakthrough. He simply is a high profile person. I admit maybe I emphasize this too much. Honestly why? I'm not gonna lie. I just love him haha
- Fussy. This is a personal hc hahhaa I'm a picky eater, I don't miss details, and call it motivation or affection when Gary was put as a rival/mentor figure, the point is, just like me, Gary only fuck with the best. 😊
Thank you so much for the ask! It's not everyday I get to talk about them since rareships are oftentimes as dead as graveyard although it does not stop me from expanding Gary's story to the internet library. Do not hesitate to send me another!

The person I reblogged this from requested the rest of the list, of which there were 3 batches. Here are the lists as I found them, I did NOT make these lists. I added commentary.
My definition of Dark Academia is simple: dark because somebody dies, academia because they go to uniform school or prepster university. At a stretch, the darkness can be oppression or abuse from which no one necessarily dies but it still gets pretty dark, and the academia can be an intense study of something even though they are not at a campus.
I want to repeat that I did not make these lists.
1. The Emperor's Club ✅ they go to uniform school and the teacher gets about ready to throw hands with a very annoying student who has no academic integrity
2. The Imitation Game ❓ i didn't watch this but it's a biopic about a computer expert so maybe
3. Never Let Me Go ✅ they go to uniform school and then the corporation government harvested all their organs; they study their own mortality—if this were the baseline for darkness, then sorry to The Emperor's Club but i must confiscate that membership card to dark academia cinematic canon. We are now only accepting Darkness on the level of non-consensual organ harvesting.
4. The Dreamers ❓ i didn't watch this one
5. Ammonite ❓ i didn't watch this one
6. Dorian Gray ❌ it's classic literature but not itself a school story or a got-too-much-into-studying story, even though there is a murder; SO CRUCIFY ME! THIS IS NOT DARK ACADEMIA!
7. A Dangerous Method ❓ didn't watch
8. Le Fabuleux Destin d'Amélie Poulain ❌ she didn't go to school at all that's why she's so messed up... that's not "studying people", Amélie, that is stalking... if you count The Talented Mr. Ripley movie as dark academia, then Amélie is dark academia but the aesthetic is bright and quirky so there is no dark and there is no academia what is Amélie doing here
9. Mary Shelley ❓ i am familiar with the historical figure but i did not watch this so i don't know
10. Call Me by Your Name ❓ i didn't watch this
1. The Riot Club ❓ probably; i haven't watched this
2. Little Women ❌ they go to a school and then Beth dies but those are not interrelated events? the other March sisters and Marmee did not conspire to murder Beth for not being pretentious enough...maybe there's some rivalry between Writer Jo and Painter Amy but it's not an exploration of how their rivalry ruined everybody else's lives
3. Noordzee, Texas ❌ if you count Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert starring Julia Roberts as dark academia then yes Noordzee, Texas is also dark academia
4. The Goldfinch ❓ i didn't watch this one and i can't be sure that it's automatically dark academia just because Donna Tartt wrote both this and The Secret History
5. Mona Lisa Smile ❓ even though 1950s housewife angst gets dark and vindictive, and they study art, nobody died so I don't really count this — why don't we like to call things LIGHT Academia?? what did the Light Academists do to us that we should shun them so mercilessly
6. Tolkien ❓ i didn't watch this but maybe yes—he did go to a university, didn't he
7. Colette ❓ i didn't watch this
8. School Ties ✅ nobody dies but the main character's bedroom gets broken into and vandalized with swastikas and i just think that's really dark, given the context; plus this happens at a uniform school
9. Total Eclipse ❌ this movie is basically Kill Your Darlings without the university; there is a "study" of poetry and a lot of stabbing people, shooting people, and setting people on fire for the Art and passion of love...but i still wouldn't count it as dark academia
10. Sherlock Holmes ❌ they do study, let's consider it field work, but the murders tend to be a plot device rather than a grim contemplation of gilded privilege and the evil in the hearts of humankind...so i do not consider Sherlock Holmes mysteries to be dark academia either
1. The Breakfast Club ❌ no
2. Whiplash ❌ he studies music pretty hard and his mentor is a jerk but i say no to this; if Whiplash is dark academia then Fight Club is dark academia
3. The Falling ❓ didn't watch
4. Licorice Pizza ❓ didn't watch
5. Maurice ❌ they meet at university, and in the movie one of their mutual friends die horribly, but if i already said no to Dorian Gray, Little Women, and Sherlock Holmes being dark academia then I should say no to this too; unlike Never Let Me Go they don't physically return to university as though studying at the university were the central important thing; honestly though I'm on the fence about this because "the unspeakable vice of the Greeks" and the Platonic love that Clive tried for, that could count as study while 19th/20th century homophobia in society can get pretty dark...but for now i say no
6. Anna Karenina ❌ i watched the Kiera Knightley movie adaptation, it was pretty and it was trippy, but there wasn't really what i would consider darkness and also there was no academia
7. Cracks ❓ didn't watch this
8. Picnic at Hanging Rock ❓ didn't watch this but the book is on my TBR
9. Nowhere Boy ❓ didn't watch this
10. Kill Your Darlings ✅ "dark academia movies you might not know"? i think this is in the top 3 dark academia cinematic canon

right!! because alot of 'dark academists' are always so anti-science and stem is associated with more modern times because of robots and other tech innovations. it's such a shame
we've got greek, we've got theatre, we've got translation. can we get an insanely good "dark academia" book based around music? 🙏

I would say that the trendy discourse now is because people from the TSH fandom kept coming into the tags saying IWWV sucks because it isn't TSH. The comparisons you find the tags flooded with now are a more evolved and sophisticated discourse from the hit-and-run "sux lol" that preceded it, but I too would rather that comparison not be happening at all.
If IWWV were falsely marketed as "the next TSH" then I understand the disappointment, but the flood of "iwwv sux lol" is really just... I expected better from you, dark academists. From all of you. If what makes the book bad is bad marketing and not being another different book, then that's...not literary analysis. Where are the frameworks? Wake up, fandoms.
As for Wren, I fan cast the troupe into Rope's End by Patrick Hamilton (really Rope 1948 but onstage); Meredith plays Janet and Pip—in drag, again— plays Kenneth, so there's the subverted romantic subplot. And I cast Wren as Mrs. Wilson. That role would usually go to an older woman, but I think ingenue can crossover to sassy maid.
The same thing I wrote more recently about why Richard Stirling became such a violent person (tl;dr: it's projective identification) I think stands to reason would apply to the distressed damsel helplessness of Wren Stirling too. If the directors' visions for the play are ingenue ingenues—which is not a direction that they have to go, but if they kept doing that more often than not for four years—then wouldn't that also explain why Wren became like that? There could also have been at least a sense of paternalistic emotional inc*st going on in how Richard didn't want James around Wren, not because Richard thinks Wren deserves better than to be anybody's sexual experiment at university, but because Richard thinks of Wren as his own. Whether that's an extended Stirling Family toxicity thing, or if it's what these specific Stirlings became because of the way they lived and were treated at this university, of course remains up for interpretation.
Tumblr media
came here to see discourses but all I see is comparisons and aesthetic bullshit smh.. I enjoyed iwwv thoroughly but yalls ruining it by comparing it with tsh when tsh is so much complex (& Objectively better. Bite me) than iwwv
like i just wanna see discussion about the book and other characters other than the male characters bc no one mentions wren here??? Did everyone just collectively forget her or what
