okay but consider: professor gale dekarios and blackstaff academy's professor of history
gale is a year or two into his tenure, and he's one of the best evocation professors the academy's seen in decades, handling multiple research projects as he teaches two or three different classes a term, taking on personal tutoring for especially capable students
and just as he's really settling into this new life he's built for himself, the school's history professor comes waltzing back into blackstaff tower, returning from a years-long research trip to the anauroch desert to study the ruins of the city of shade (thanks elminster lmao)
gale meets this professor at a staff meeting at the start of term and they seem nice enough, if a bit distracted, and he asks them about their subject, which is the least magic-involved on offer
and they explain something about unglamorous subjects still being integral to a good arcane education
gale makes some stupid comment (as he is wont to do) and they immediately are on the defensive, and explain to him that they don’t really focus too much on studying actual magic because that element of arcana comes easier to them than most people, given that they're not a studied wizard but a wild magic sorcerer
and this . . . gale and sorcerers . . .
i am simply obsessed with the difference between gale, a wizard prodigy spending his entire childhood and young adulthood with his nose in books to get as good as he is, and a sorcerer who just. Does That. who was never starting from scratch like everyone else
and he is frustrated and fixated and infuriated as the two of them circle each other for months, their normal schedules seemingly aligned perfectly to bring them to the library and the staff common room and the school courtyards at the same time. and the first time he sees them stop a fight between students within minutes, capable and confident and slinging spells as easy as breathing - he might be a little bit in love
(and if they then have to scramble to banish the cambion they accidentally summoned with a wild magic surge - well, what's a better way to start the school day than swooping in to the rescue of a beautiful historian?)
#i love gale and sorcerers so much#ever since he made that stupid comment on one of my first playthroughs about sorcerers not being “studied” in magic lmao#academic rivals to lovers my beloved#gale dekarios x reader#from the oven#gale thoughts

I've been having thoughts on Malleo, so hear me out
Imagine a Leona x fem!Malleus scenario, the romance would build up more naturally if that was the case!!
So Malleus is walking around doing club activities, which is observing gargoyles ofc, and Leona happens to be near bc he overslept into the night and was going back to his dorm. But Leona sees Malleus and hesitates. Logically, he knows she's way more powerful than him and can take care of herself just fine, but he questions if he'll be able to sleep peacefully knowing he saw a girl walking around abandoned places alone in the middle of the night. So he decides to go up to her and pays the small price of Malleus excitedly talking about gargoyles the whole time. He even accompanies her back to Diasomnia before going back to his own
He tries to avoid it at first but it keeps happening until Leona eventually decides to join her every time she goes out at night. He even starts participating in the conversation instead of just listening and tuning out most of Malleus' monologues, which she notices
I can also totally see Lilia tricking Leona (and Ruggie, by proximity) into coming to Diasomnia, but Leona decides to stay once he learns it's Malleus' birthday (bc ofc Lilia is his kids' biggest wingman). Whether or not he knows Malleus used to have very lonely birthday parties before doesn't matter, Leona has shown in a vignette that he's more inclined to participate in a woman's birthday than a man's, even if they're a stranger
Like, man. Turning Malleus into a girl would make Leona go softer on her when they interact outside of their established rivalry, which would make for an interesting dynamic me thinks
... On the other hand, if you change Leona into a girl instead, nothing about their interactions would change lol. If Malleus wanted to court Leona, he will do so no matter the gender

I would do wonderful in an academic rivals to lovers arc because if I have to do any kind of group project with anyone and they even slightly annoy me I think that they are the most incompetent person on the planet. Like I genuinely think they have no common sense or any sort of intelligence. I immediately become the worst version of myself. And I think that would be an excellent way to set up a dynamic between two characters.
#it works because I take a long time to come back around after someone pisses me off and the TENSION#THE SLOWBURN#Anyways#personal post#shitpost#academic rivals to lovers my beloved

the first time park y/n was called "smart" was when she was 7.
she had just solved a math question involving numbers with two decimal places, and such thing was considered really difficult for a child that age, apparently.
she liked being "smart". you didn't have to be rich or popular to be smart, you simply were. it was something that came with you and didn't require conditions to exist. she knew she had something special the moment she told her mom what had happened in school that day and a big proud smile blossomed all over her face.
so she decided to make the most out of that funny feeling she got whenever someone recognized and pointed out her wittiness. it gave her confidence, and, most of all, a sense that she knew who she was even from an early age. knowing her purpose and enclosing herself in such a compact box defined by a single characteristic gave her security, a foundation for whoever she came to be in the future.
until it all came to shreds.
they say destiny works in mysterious ways, and she believed that well enough. park y/n will never forget march 1st, 2014, because it was the day she, unfortunately, learned about lee minho's existence on planet earth and this spiritual plane. the day her life was ruined forever.
she didn't even know his name yet, however, when he walked into the classroom with his cocky face and his perfectly dressed school uniform, she immediately knew he was going to be trouble. growing up, she was very wary of other kids who were dressed too nicely, too tidy, too spoiled. at that moment, it was almost as if something in the air had changed, a never-ending tension set amidst the squeals of elementary school students excited about the beginning of the school year.
it seemed that the hatred that y/n and minho would feel for each other was the hand of fate, and both of them really suited their roles.
"everybody, could someone tell me what are the three physical states of water?", with everybody already in their seats, the teacher opened up the first class with a question.
y/n obviously knew the answer, so she raised her hand, ready to say it out loud. back at her old school, she was the only kid that ever raised her hand to answer the teacher's questions, so her surprise was practically palpable when she realized that the teacher was looking at something beyond her, at the back of the room.
"yes, minho?"
"liquid, solid and gas, miss?" y/n felt her hand slowly returning to the top of her desk and her shoulders slumping, along with her entire spirit.
she has never had any familiarity with competition. she was intellectually gifted and shone academically in the space she studied before, but now it seemed as if the game had become serious, and the security that she once had of being the best at the only thing she was good at was quickly taken away in a matter of seconds.
fighting the voice in her head, y/n turned quickly to get a good look at this "minho", and wasn't surprised when she found out the boy she'd found arrogant-looking earlier. what made her blood boil, however, was the way he was looking directly at her while being praised by the teacher due to his right answer. he must have seen her with her arm up, ready to answer, and the smirk that marked his lips was nothing but a challenge.
that's it. that's what started it all.
it became a never-ending cycle: she would be going about her life as normal until lee minho showed up as a terrifyingly yet loathsome ghost, ready to spoil whatever peace she was having.
it happened when she entered the chess club back when she was 12, and, to no one's surprise, he walked through the door right after her. both were kicked out of the club by the next day anyway. the match they were determined to play against one another lasted almost 6 hours, preventing all the other members of the club from having the opportunity to play as well (and the monitor apparently found that "unfair" to them).
there was also that time, when they were both at the age of 13, in art class, where y/n tried to replicate the movement technique that was used by monet in water lilies. she had been determinedly busy with that piece of work for weeks now. minho tried to do a retelling of some stupid picasso painting. when he walked past her desk to get another brush at the front of the room, he ended up bumping into a pot of blue paint that was laying by her canvas, ruining all of y/n's progress along with her uniform. in a combination of blue and red that tainted and heated up her face in anger, the only thing he managed to say to her was a "well, at least now is much better that the hideous thing you were doing before". she had no appeal in being expelled, so she didn't jump on his neck right then and there, refraining from making him apologize on his knees forcefully. instead, she just filled her lungs and shot out the most obscene curses she knew up to that point in time (it was, in a way, an admirably large and complete vocabulary).
if you thought lee minho has some limit or social block to becoming even more annoying and inconvenient, you are terribly wrong. the advanced literature class was almost a private wrestling ring for both of them when they were 15. the end-of-year assignment was the ultimate goal, however: whoever did the best article on a classic would win an award in front of the entire school and would have their text sent to a professional journalist. while minho chose to do it on the great gatsby, y/n decided to explore the feminine theme behind madame bovary, and without even having picked up pen and paper yet, she already knew deep down that her research would crumple whatever silly text he even thought of writing (if he even knew how to, in the first place).
everything was going according to what she planned; her text was well-grounded and her thesis had become very clear in that process, seeking an ultimate goal of comprehension of the reader. her calm state was thrown into the trash, however, when minho went to the teacher's desk to ask questions about his thesis and she ended up overhearing that he had already written 25 pages.
she had only written 17 at that point.
y/n had always believed that quantity didn't mean quality, but knowing that he had been more competent than her and had repertoire to fill more pages than she did brewed a warm, nagging feeling of anger in her stomach. even though her text was closing perfectly with what she already had, she kept in her head that you can always go deeper into things, so she started researching more and more and adding as much information as she could in order to fill in at least 26 pages - and so she did.
now it was her turn. with the messy draft papers under her arm, she confidently strolled to the teacher's desk to ask about the development of her text. when she asked how many pages she had written, y/n took a deep breath, opened a proud smirk and said in a louder voice, but not too openly, "26".
move completed. walking back to her class, she noticed minho's eyes narrowed in her direction, his tongue running over his teeth.
the next day, when she was going to get something to drink from the vending machine, y/n was surprised to see minho leaning with his back against the wall in front of it along with a friend, both looking around incessantly, searching for something. skeptically, y/n continued her path to get her water, but with slower steps and a small frown on her face now. when minho noticed her presence and his eyes looked deep into hers, he slightly kicked the friend next to him, who jumped and fixed the glasses that were sliding down his nose.
"h-hey minho, how is your project going?" the blond boy with the big glasses stammered. y/n hated herself for paying attention to whatever conversation lee minho was having, but giving how close the pair were to her didn't help her one bit.
"what project are we talking about, yongbok?" she wanted to vomit. she, unfortunately, knew minho enough to know when he was faking sweetness and innocence, due to the uncountable times he used it with teachers in front of her. his pitch would go up and the smile he was trying his best not to make it be known was audible in his voice.
"the one from advanced literature, o-of the award" yongbok managed to get it out.
"aaaah" she heard minho chuckling as she inserted coin after coin into the machine. "i've got 34 pages by now".
she pressed the number of her water more forcefully than she intended. and he probably noticed.
"what? you had 25 by yesterday!" his friend exclaimed, actually seeming surprised.
"ah, you know..." the bottle of water dropped but y/n didn't move, eyes focused on the white lights of the machine, hearing little steps coming closer to her carefully. "i don't know what happened either, i guess i just got a... peak of motivation yesterday" his voice was closer to her than before, and y/n's hands were balled into fists. "let's go, yongbok, i don't want to be late for p.e.".
y/n skipped p.e. that was the first time she ever skipped any class, but a battle was installed and she would rather die than give lee minho the satisfaction of winning over her. that's why she ducked into the school library and started to get as many books that could help with her research and went to work.
"knowledge is gold, knowledge is gold, knowledge is gold, y/n, knowledge is gold..." she repeated like a mad person.
by the end of the week, that is, when the article was supposed to be given to the teacher, she had managed to fill in 50 sheets from top to bottom. it was a safe number and she knew she had left minho to eat the dust. she was looking like a zombie for dodging sleep for a few days now in order to achieve her goal, but she was proud and confident.
the classes didn't seem to pass, and 10am seemed like an unattainable delirium that never arrived. until it did.
"everyone, please bring our assignments to my desk" miss young spoke, and the war enemies were obviously the first to get up and go to her.
miss young's surprised face was wide open as the two extended their works at the same time.
"hum..." she started, unsure. "how many pages did you do?".
again, in the same second, they both let out a proud "50", too focused on themselves to pay attention to what the other had said in the first place.
the entire class became uproar, the other students not having even managed to write 5 full pages, but y/n barely noticed. when reality came up to her, she looked at him with wide eyes. the realization of her sharing the same train of thought with an asshole such as lee minho makes y/n want to throw up everything she had for breakfast and tear her hair out with her bare hands. even with an equally surprised look coming from him, the annoyingly teasing smirk that was his trademark and also the source of y/n's daily anger appeared without further ado. it was obvious he was making fun of the whole situation while she succumbed to the disappointment she felt in herself, bubbling in the pit of her stomach.
the days that followed were marked by the tension of the rest of the students, as everyone was invested in which of the two would win the fateful prize. it wasn't that they really cared about a silly prize from a literature class, but rather the endless conflict between the school's two brains.
when she was heading to the locker room after a torturous gym class, she was stopped in her tracks by a boy sitting in the bleachers, a tower slung lazily around his broad shoulders and a bottle of water used as a freshener on his forehead. she had never spoken to him, but she had walked through the halls of that place enough to know that his name was changbin. as she passed in front of him, he called out for her with a short whistle.
"hey, you" he said. his lack of politeness deeply irritated y/n, but she stood still, waiting to see what he had to say. "did you win?" he asked.
"win what?"
"that silly award from literature class" he clarified, opening his water and taking a sip.
crossing her arms and softly scoffing, she asked "why do you want to know? were you also running to win it?"
"nah" he laughed, closing the bottle. "i didn't even turn in mine. i was just interested in whether it was you or the playboy who won it".
she looked in the opposite direction from where they were both talking, at the bleachers on the other side of the court, where minho was receiving two water bottles by two girls from the year below, their eyes had a dreamy, sickeningly sweet look to them, and she simply couldn't not feel sorry for the girls. the pair talked nonstop, making him visibly dizzy, but still, smug. changbin was more than correct, the nickname "playboy" fit perfectly with the boy's snobbish personality, although y/n had ideas of others that were a little more... hostile and explicit.
"i didn't yet, but i will, you can bet on it" she said, finally, still looking at the boy at the other side of the room with disgust.
anyone can reasonably imagine everyone's (really, everyone's) surprise when the final result was announced.
"what?!" both y/n and minho exclaimed.
"you two can't hand me the best papers i've ever received from high school students throughout my decades of lecturing career and expect me to pick just one of them. both of you will win the prize and that's it. you should be happy about it!"
"but, miss young..." y/n tried to stand up for herself. losing to him was a reasonable justification for masking her stomach turn, however, being put on the same level as he was offensive and degrading.
for fuck's sake, she skipped class to do this stupid article, fought the urge to pluck gustave flaubert from his grave, bring him back to life and kill him once more, avoided sleeping, read until her eyes burned, and wrote until she couldn't feel her fingers anymore. that's what her effort was worth. all to get onstage with the federal idiot lee minho and win the same award as him, being required to have a smile on her face.
"no 'but', miss park, we are finished here. be grateful for what you've got up to this point". miss young ended the conversation, gathered her materials and left the room.
"man, that was a bummer..." minho starts saying, humor plastered in his voice.
"shut up, i can't even listen to your voice right now" she interrupted, walking back to her desk.
"wow" he says, bouncing after her. when she sits down in her chair, he stops in front of her, holding out a fisted hand as if he was holding out a microphone. "tell me then, park y/n, how are you feeling? disappointed in yourself? impressed? sad? ready to cry? with such fury that you could kill 5 helpless orphans?"
y/n only takes a deep breath, trying to keep what composure she still has left in her body.
"do you have any idea of how unbelievably annoying you actually are?" she asks, frankly.
"huuum..." he looks up, pretending he's making a lot of effort to think. suddenly, he opens a playful smirk. "not annoying enough to have you ignore me, apparently".
"i think you're hallucinating and seeing things that don't exist. have you considered going to a psychologist to see what's wrong with you... here" she replied, softly poking her own head to emphasize her point even more (the point being that lee minho was an imbecile, regardless of how many 100% scores he scored on countless tests, how many of his papers were recognized by professors, and how many ugly academic olympic trophies he won).
"ouch, you hurt my feelings being like that" he pretends to take an invisible arrow from his chest. suddenly, from one second to the next, his face turns completely serious "you know, this whole situation pisses me off too, because it will make you think you are closer to my level than you are, and i hate how smug you get when you think you have more capabilities than you actually do, so you think you have what it takes to go head-to-head with someone like me...". he then places his hands on her class and lowers himself so that her eyes level with his "and, as much of a gentleman as i am, i'm not one to go easy on anyone, so act smart y/n".
"you talk way too much, minho" she doesn't back down even though what he said has the slightest impact on her, but which is quickly smothered back inside, under lock and key. instead, she raises her chin slightly. "the only thing is that you are a brainless moron, so i can't bring myself to understand whatever you are trying to say no matter how much i try to".
"ha" he scoffs, but stares her down for a couple more second before saying "let's go grab something to eat, yongbok".
the day they were to receive the award is a gray day, as if the heavens had such empathy and behaved according to the sadness of the occasion. after a speech that neither of them paid attention to, they had to go up on stage together, take the trophies from miss young's hands and take a picture together with plasticized smiles on their faces. despite y/n's disappointment, the other students found the situation humorous, all applauding in an exaggerated matter and making hearts for them from the audience in front of the stage, causing a hot wave of anger to rise through her body.
despite this already eventful timeline of terror that marked unpleasant but fundamental moments for the conception of the relationship between y/n and minho, the real switch was when the ranks by grades were introduced in both of their lives. now everything was, if possible, more public than ever. due to this, if minho scored even 1% higher than her on a test, the remnants of that would be printed on a huge chart that covered the wall of the hall at the entrance to the school, the one in front of the canteen, a pillar inside the classroom and, no matter how much she wouldn't have to go through the displeasure of discovering that he had surpassed her through himself along with his ridiculous jokes, if she performed worse than him, her failure would be exposed to everyone's eyes, and that was not something she craved.
this brings us to the present. it's the first day of y/n's senior year in high school, but she barely notices. her mother is fussing over fixing her hair and uniform as she tries to eat an apple as quickly as possible.
"ah, my baby" her mother whispers, getting emotional at the end of the cycle she watched throughout y/n's growth.
she, however, can only see the shade of purple that already seemed tattooed under the eyes of the exhausted woman in front of her. as much as today should have been a happy day, feel any trace of contentment while looking at her mother these days. she didn't know if it was a bad thought for a daughter to have, but in the back of her mind, she sometimes felt contentment with not needing to see her mother for a few days just to get away from the discomfort that crept up her spine every time she passed her in the morning.
"mom, mom" she began, struggling to get her hands away from her face and make her pay attention to what she wanted to say. "how many hours did you sleep last night?"
"about 4" but y/n only frowned at her response. "or 3...".
"mom..."
"y/n, this is hospital life. you're need to get used to it, this is how shifts work"
"it's not about that" she tried argumenting.
"so what is it? do you want me to quit? you know i can't do thi-"
"yes" she interrupted, looking away anywhere but her. "yes, i know, that's not what i meant".
after a sigh, she felt her holding her arms lovingly. "you worry too much, don't go clogging your little head with silly things".
"i know"
"just worry about your studies. you know i'll always take care of everything, don't you?"
"i know"
and so she left. the walk to school was always pleasant, a breath of fresh air before the constant tension that marred the rest of her day. the walk back, during the night, was not so enticing; she knew she would stick her head in textbooks again as soon as she set foot in her room again, and the longed-for rest was never achieved at the end of the day.
even so, she was always very aware of what was necessary and what was not to get where she wanted in the future; she was never a fan of wasting time. she was very grateful to have that notion, more of it than the one of giving in whenever she felt like taking it easy and resting.
she enters school without feeling an ounce of excitement and nostalgia that her peers feel on her last first day. what knocks the air out of her lungs, on the contrary, is the physical shock she has against someone who gets right in her way as she storms forward.
she's always seen lee yongbok in a pejorative light (a doormat, a coward, a slave, though she wouldn't be surprised if she found out minho's parents paid him to hang out with him), and his clumsiness never went unnoticed either. so, when she stumbles into the blond boy and ends up falling flat on her face in the middle of the school hall, landing with such gracelessness that it seemed divinely orchestrated, she simply couldn't believe it had happened in the very first second she stepped inside the school on the first day.
"i-i'm sorry i-"
"i can't believe it, you fucking idiot!" she exclaimed, her face's anger reflecting his internal turmoil. pushing herself back up, she took a look at her bruised knees, already reddening up. she made a point of throwing him a murderous look, the boy froze and his cheeks started to take on color. if she imagined what a person looked like before crumbling in shame, this would be the vision that would come to mind.
"sometimes i ask myself if, in case you tried hard enough, you could actually stop being a tremendous bitch" a snickering voice sounds behind her, just as she was contemplating whether the boy in front of her had been frozen in time or if he was simply having a cardiac arrest. "until you're faster than me and prove to me that it would never be possible, it's in your blood, programmed into your brain".
she hisses, bending down to get her books that were splattered on the floor. after all that, the last thing that would contribute to her wrecked mood would be listening to whatever shit minho felt like dumping on her.
"you know he meant no harm. our yongbok is sweet to everyone and wouldn't hurt a fly on purpose, now would you, yongie?" out of the corner of her eye, she could see that minho had reached the blonde, draping an arm over his shoulders and shaking him affectionately alongside a high-pitched voice, as if he was talking to a dog. she only managed to roll her eyes.
after gathering all her stuff from the floor, she stood up and looked minho straight in the eye. not that he deserved it.
"you make me sick" she said, leaving to go to the infirmary to put bandaids on her knees, which already felt like they were bleeding slightly.
"there she is!" minho exclaimed, pointing at her, finding her reaction as if she were a comedian, but she had already turned her back on him. "aaaah, this is going to be a very, very long year" and he smirked.
stay tuned for chapter 2! new chapters every sunday ☆

this is so real!!! It's really hard for me to like enemies to lovers because all my life I've heard and seen people pointing out my mistakes or how I should act in a certain situation that just thinking about someone doing something like that, even though they like me but doing it just to piss me off , I would never look that person in the face again.
I just want someone who tells me every day that I am enough, who respects me and is affectionate.
aw honey, I hope you find that!🫶🏽

Bartylily anon here!
They're all I've been able to think about for the last couple of days (weeks more like), so I have some thoughts I'd like to share with the class
Lily calling Barty pretty boy, especially during sex, and Barty just pathetically whimpering everytime she does it! This one has not left my head for weeks, and I have to force myself not to giggle and kick my feet at the thought when I'm in public
I also think they'd be the ones to use a fuckton of pet names (I really don't like to refer to canon, but like cmon, it's literally in the books that Lily uses pet names, and to me Barty seems like the type of person to call quite literally everyone 'darling' and various other endearments, wether its sarcastic or not), Lily's most used for Barty (aside from pretty boy) is 'honey' and 'love', Barty's is 'sweetheart' and 'princess'
Lily loves to get her nails done, but she always keeps her ring and middle fingernails short, so most people assume she's a lesbian, but no, she just likes to fuck her boyfriend silly
Since on the topic of Lily fucking Barty silly, Lily tends to top more, but Barty gets his fair share of fucking Lily too, Lily has never came from anyone as hard as she did from Barty (she also scratches up Barty's entire back when he's fucking her, and he's sooo into it, we all know he's a masochist)
They're such a bi4bi couple
Both of them being demiromantic!! Barty and Lily being demiromantic are some of my favourite sexuality (?) headcanons
My absolute favourite form of Bartylily is (college) academic rivals to lovers, Lily is struggling, she's burnt out and she has three different jobs, so she barely has any time to study, but she has such a thirst for knowledge, and then there's Barty, a literal fucking genius, he barely ever studies for anything and he aces everything, and Lily hates him so much for it, but oh god, look at his hands! And oh, the tattoos all over his body! And oh, Lily wants fuck him so bad, it drives her insane (don't worry girl, I'm right there with you)
t4t Bartylily my beloved, mtf Lily and bigender Barty (doesn't matter if he's AFAB or AMAB, I just think bigender Barty is neat), they give each other so much gender euphoria
Barty eats Lily out whenever he's bored
Them literally worshipping each other's bodies
They're into BDSM for sure, they're so kinky with each other, gags, ropes, blindfolds, toys, whatever you could think of (Barty has a custom-made collar with lily flowers sewn into it, Lils got it made for his birthday)
Lily makes Barty a bit calmer, and Barty brings out Lily's freak
Barty having a massive degradation kink, Lily calls him a slut frequently in the bedroom
I'd like to close this with dom Lily, I'm literally on my knees for her
OKAY THIS GOT WAY TOO LONG, BUT I THINK ABOUT THEM SO MUCH, I HAVE SO. MANY. THOUGHTS (this isn't even the half of it), I'M SORRY!!!!
Also I *might* post these on my own blog too, if you're fine with that!!
nsfw
omg Mars thank you sm.
BARTY WHIMPERING?? OMG
Also Lily loves to absolutely wreck Barty's back with her nails and he loves showing it off..
BOTTOM BARTY YES, Lily's best friend is her neon green (tentacle?) strap
Just overall so yes
May I also propose a mommy kink there? Because Lily Evans sure as hell gives MOTHER (and Barty has mommy issues)
Jesus I love you so much for this, also ofc you can post this on your blog! Make sure to tag me, I'd love to read more of your Bartylily.

Could I request some enemy-rival for the best grades in class to lovers with Azul, Riddle, Jamil, and Vil. (It's ok if you don't do the last two).
𝐀+ 𝐢𝐧 𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠
author’s note : i’ve finally finished something!! i’m very sorry for being so inactive everyone, writer’s block has had me by the throat orz
azul ashengrotto
azul is an entrepreneur, and you learn very early in the business world that you’ve got to be competitive; and he is just that.
we all know him, he does some shady shit. you would think with an academic rival, he would try and pull something like getting you expelled or finding some way to nuke your grades— all while somehow managing to stay in the bounds of what’s legal.
but despite you two’s thick rivalry, azul wouldn’t do anything of the sort to you.. if you were anyone else, he would. the truth is, he’s got a little crush on you.
“i really don’t think getting me a tutor is necessary, professor.”
crewel looks up from his paperwork, unconvinced. “your performance has been dropping, prefect. quite significantly. i wouldn’t be doing this if this if you were just experiencing a small bump in the road. i’m worried about your comprehension.”
“.. i guess i have been having trouble understanding what we’ve been learning,” you admit. “anyways, you mentioned already selecting a tutor for me. who is it?”
“azul ashengrotto.” crewel replies cooly. you choke. of all the possible people—
“why him??” you barely breath out.
“he’s one of the finest student-alchemists in the school, that’s why. i would’ve asked one of the other top alchemists to tutor you, but they were all busy. besides, the pup seemed enthusiastic at the idea of tutoring you.” crewel explained as he stirred his coffee. “i know you don’t like him, but you’ll have to put up with it until your performance starts picking back up. do your best not to maul him during you two’s sessions.”
a knock on the door momentarily pulled you out of your misery.
“please excuse the interruption!” a familiar voice chirped. you sighed; it’s azul. and just like that, you feel miserable again.
“ashengrotto. thank you for taking up the tutor role. show some gratitude, prefect.” crewel orders.
“thanks, azul.” you grit out.
“of course! i’m willing to help you fix your shortcomings any time,” azul flashes an admittedly charming, but at the same time irritable smile at you. “anything for a beloved friend.”
your eyes twitch at his insincerity. “so what are you here for?” you ask.
“i actually came to take you to the library. that’s where i’ve decided we’ll be holding our tutoring sessions.” he smiles.
the realization of something makes you raise an eyebrow. how did he know you were in here? you didn’t tell him (or anyone else for that matter) that you would be seeing crewel after school. you haven’t talked to azul since class that morning, when you chewed him out for indirectly calling you dumb.
“.. i see. we should get going then.”
the two of you walk in blissful silence until azul disturbs it.
“just so you know, prefect— me tutoring you means you are in debt now. i’m a busy man, you know. and i’ll be having to pay jade and floyd a couple madol extra for running the entire lounge theirselves for an hour and a half each day i’ll have to tutor.”
“debt?!” you sputtered. “i didn’t even get a choice in this! crewel just sprung all this on me today, literal minutes before you joined our convo,” you stop firmly in your tracks. “if you tutoring me is going to get me in debt, i’m not going. i can study on my own.”
“oh please, being in my debt isn’t so bad!” azul snakes a hand around your arm before dragging you in the direction of the library. you try to break free, but he’s got an iron grip. “and i happen to be very fond of you, so i won’t make you repay me with anything too costly.”
“knowing you, you definitely are!”
having azul as your tutor is emotionally grueling.
it’s not the way he teaches. he’s not like teachers that have thin patience and are just all around terrifying— the worst you get is the occasional quip, but that’s expected of your rival. aside from said quips, he’s actually quite kind. and helpful. the grueling part is trying to come to terms with the fact that you fell for him.
you were practically vibrating with happiness seeing the score on your report card. “finally! i’m back at a high A again! i’ve got to tell azu..” your voice trailed off as you remembered earlier today, he asked you to come to the mostro lounge.
he was gonna make you pay your debt today.
. . .
entering the establishment, you were taken aback to see the place with not a single customer. it’s after school; the time mostro lounge is usually it’s busiest. and as far as you know, there’s nothing special going on today. besides you having to pay your debt.
“did he close for the day because of me?” you gulped as you looked around for azul. out he came from the VIP room— dressed not in his dorm uniform, but in a rather fancy outfit. apparently he wants to collect his pay in style.
“prefect,” he greeted, seeming oddly nervous. “your payment is..” azul cuts himself off, like he’s struggling to speak. his face is flushing at an indescribable pace. meanwhile you’re nervous out of your mind; even more so confused at why he looks like he’s about to pass out.
“go on..” you urge.
“having dinner with me.”
“.. oh! wait wh—”
riddle rosehearts [!!! — burnout]
it’s not being competitive that’s bad; it’s being the annoying type of competitive that is. and riddle is certainly giving off that annoying-competitive vibe to you. but whatever! you’re willing to compete against him, it’ll just push you even harder to aim for the top. and it is genuinely fun to compete!
— until you get burnt out.
turns out juggling personal problems, other people’s problems, 20 others things as well as keeping your grades high is not easy. at some point you begin to crack; your energy deteriorates, and so does your grades. and who is there to point it out? your beloved rival, of course.
the grades you see on your report card right now are not the worst thing you could get. not by a long shot! (just take a look at ace and deuce’s grades.) but it still stings to get when you’re usually so much better.
you used to have high A’s— even a few A+’s! but now you had low B’s in just about every class.
“i did all i could. all that effort, just for me to end up sinking.” you crumple up your paper up in frustration then toss it behind you, not even wanting it to be in your possession.
it landed right in front of riddle. he unfolds it and sneers as he makes his way to your seat.
“what happened to your straight A’s?” the boy asks, sliding the report before your hunched-over form. “don’t tell me you’ve lost some of your work ethic?”
“no,” you sluggishly sit up, shaking your head. “at least, i don’t think so. i’ve been working as hard as i can. i don’t understand how my grades plummeted despite that.”
there’s a look of concern that crosses riddle’s face for a moment, but you don’t catch it. he immediately dons a scowl once again.
“hmph. well, if you want to get back to the respectable place you once were, you’d better work even harder.”
you, drowning in self-loathing over your grades, decided he was right. so you worked harder. you worked so hard in fact, you ended up ill.
“when i told you to work harder, i did not mean half to death. what were you thinking? neglecting sleep, a proper diet— essentially every necessity of having good health? i’m disappointed, prefect.”
riddle’s harsh tone is making your tension headache intensify. your head pounds with every word he says.
“listen— i know it wasn’t smart of me to let my health go to shit. but let me do something right for the first time in like, a month, and nurse myself back to perfect health,” you throw your blanket over your head. “which starts with getting some rest. i appreciate the visit and the scolding— now please leave.”
riddle scoffs as if he’s offended, tugging your blanket right back down. “i am not leaving! i’m going to help you,” he stops, his irked expression turning into a somber one. “i owe you it.”
“.. explain?” you ask, eyebrows scrunched together in confusion. he sits on the edge of your bed, back facing you.
“i’m the reason your sick, aren’t i? inadvertently of course, but still.” he stares down at his lap in shame. “i felt that i was only looking out in your best interest when i told you to ‘work harder’. i didn’t want your grades to end up dropping even lower— and for you to end up even upsetter than you already seemed.”
the corners of your lips twitch up. “so what i’m getting from this is.. you care about me?” you ask. he confirms it with a nod.
“i didn’t want to show back then, but i’ll admit it to it now. i do care about you.” he is so glad he has his back to you right now, because he’s sure his face is bright red.
he’s praying that his words are mending your relationship. (lucky for him, it is. your heart is pounding, and it’s not from whatever overworking-induced disease you have.)
“that’s really sweet, riddle.” you sit up and scooch over to give him a half-hug, which he returns clumsily. “also, just so you know, i don’t blame you for getting me sick or anything.”
he lets out a relieved sigh as he turns to give you a full hug, burying his face in your neck. a 180 from the way he was so stiff just seconds ago. then he suddenly recoils as if he’s just snapped out of his euphoria.
“would now be the right time to ask if we should start dating?” you ask.
“it would. i’d love to be a relationship.” he smiles. “now, let’s get you some rest.”
jamil viper [!!! — chapter 4 spoilers]
this rivalry is unique to the others; that is because of the fact that jamil can’t make above average grades. not because he’s got average intelligence, but because his grades have to be underneath kalim’s. servitude sucks. (you two are still competing to be smarter than each other, so it’s still considered academic!) (.. right?? idk the rules)
you and jamil are quite close— not that either of you will willingly call each other a friend, but you are friends. despite that, you know way less than you feel like you should about him.
he’s so secretive about himself, it just makes you want to know more. but at the same time, you don’t wanna show interest. so you’re stuck wishing for a chance to learn more about him without seeming like a simp. and your wish came true.
despite all the times you’ve been over, you haven’t gotten a proper look at scarabia. (sure, you were here for all of winter break, which is a solid amount of time to be locked in a dorm— but it was hard to pay attention to the interior design with the whole jamil-going-insane saga.)
so today, you decided you were gonna walk around and really take the whole place in— and god, this dorm is gorgeous.
“i’ll have to thank kalim for letting me explore. and to make him give me some tips on how to decorate ramshackle..” you mumbled to yourself, turning to leave the storage room you just finished observing.
you’re slightly alarmed at the sound of the door knob being vigorously shaken. the door flies open, and now you’re suddenly face to face with a thoroughly upset looking jamil.
jamil curses under his breath. this room is empty for nearly 24 hours all 7 days of the damn week. the one time he comes in for solitude, there’s someone in here. but strangely, he doesn’t hate having you in his presence right now.
“are you okay?” you ask, concerned. he stays silent, hesitant to reply— half of him wants to just say ‘yes’ and walk away right now, while the other wants to unload all his feelings.. which is so unlike him. yet that out-of-character half wins.
“.. i’m exhausted.” jamil quietly admits, shutting the door so any passersby can’t overhear the sensitive conversation. he leans backwards onto the wall and he slides down to sit on the floor against it.
“oh.” you slide down next to him. “i’d be exhausted too if i had to do all the shit you do around the dorm.” you attempt to cheer him up.
“it’s not because of dorm duties,” he chuckles wryly. “i’m sure this is nothing you want to hear about as we left this back at the winter holiday, but i can’t help but rant about it now. i’m exhausted of holding back to kalim. holding back to everyone, really. but especially him.”
“i thought you didn’t feel that way anymore! didn’t you get counseling to work that mindset away?”
“i did get counseling. but please, as long as i’m a servant to the al-asim family, these horrible feelings won’t be going anywhere. regardless of how much counseling i receive.”
you wanted to help him, so you tried to think of something you could do. then came the question — what could you even do? it’s not like you could just pull him and his family out of servitude. nor ask him to just go wild and do whatever he wants with his life. whatever you do, it’ll just have to be small scale.
you wracked your brain for a few days before hatching a plan; a plan that in retrospect.. was not that great. the gist was : on an upcoming test, you would purposefully get a lower grade than him because the high of being better seems to be one of the things he wants the most.
as you intentionally penned in several incorrect answers, you sighed to yourself. this is dumb.
would purposefully getting a grade lower than him even make him feel the slightest bit better? it’s kalim who he’d want to get a higher grade than. but you’re also a rival to him— of course, a much less serious one— but a rival nonetheless! so maybe he’d still be happy..?
the more you thought about it, the more holes you found in your plan.
this most definitely has more cons than pros. to name the two big ones— a low grade on your track record of otherwise perfect scores would scar your soul. and jamil.. you don’t even know if he’d appreciate this. if anything, this would give him a laugh.
you looked up from your test and a few seats ahead of you, where jamil sat. to others, he had the same neutral expression he always wore. but you could notice he still seemed a little down.
.. even if this just gave him a small laugh, it would be worth it.
. . .
“this was not worth it.” you clasp your hand over your mouth in embarrassment as jamil snickers. the thought of this low C dragging your grade down by several points is giving you physical damage. you’ll be making an A+ on every single future assignment to cope and rebuild your grade. “anyways, shouldn’t you be thanking me or something for this hit to my grade i took for you?”
“.. you’re right. i should thank you. i don’t know many people who would willingly take such a large hit to their grade just to make me feel better.” jamil says before smirking.
“what’s that face for?”
“i was just thinking. knowing how much you care about your grades, you wouldn’t do this for just anyone. i must be special to you.” he says jokingly.
“you are.” you reply not jokingly. both of you freeze. jamil is shocked, processing what’d just happened. and you’re mortified you just accidentally confessed— you almost consider bolting while he’s still stunned.
“.. you’re special to me too, prefect.”
vil schoenheit
you’re a top student, exceptionally attractive, have shining potential, and much more. you know what all that makes you to vil? a threat. you get rival status.
you never wanted a rivalry with anyone, let alone vil fucking schoenheit!! he’s scary!! you just wanted to make good grades in peace, but he dragged you into one anyways.
to tell you a secret : vil lowkey liked you from the jump. he valued a lot of things about you. from your intelligence, to work ethic, to your personality, you were charming. he also had this itch to curate you to your full potential. but he held back— he shouldn’t help his proclaimed rival. (you might rise to his level if he does!)
one day, the great 7 frowned upon you and you were assigned to be partners with vil for a project. a project that required the two of you to work together over the course of an entire month. during this, his love would grow and eventually be requited. and that journey started with him doing exactly what he said he wouldn’t : trying to curate you to your full potential.
“what time do you normally go to bed?” vil asks, taking your attention off of your work.
“oh, i don’t usually check the time before i go to bed, so i can’t give an exact answer. but definitely past 10 or 11pm most nights.” you admit. the way he furrows his eyebrows is a sure sign that he disapproves. you’ve gotten horror stories from epel about the routines vil makes everyone in the dorm follow, and you’re hoping they’re not about to extend to you.
“it must be quite late, because i can see some dark circles.” he says, prodding right under one of your eyes. his bluntness makes you sputter. “now tell me, what skincare brand do you use?” oh boy.
“… that cheap one at the school store.”
he clicks his tongue. “that won’t do at all. i’m not even sure what janky brand you’re talking about, and also extremely concerned that you can’t remember the name of it— but whatever it is, it’s not doing justice for your skin.”
“hey, i’m just working with what i can afford.” you mumble. he waves it off.
“i have plenty of other questions, but i doubt any of the answers will be what i want to hear. after we finish this project session, come with me to pomefiore. i’ll put you on some beauty and health routines that’ll get you glowing results by a week.”
“what? that’s sudden..” though the thought of looking like a new person in just a week is tempting. “also, that’s really nice of you to do for your rival. this is something you’d do for someone if you liked them.”
vil turns away to obscure his face from you. “that is not why i’m doing this,” he clarifies. “i’m only doing this because you’ll be more interesting to compete with you once you’re not so much of a spudling. i need you to become more of a challenge.”
yes, that’s why. there is no other possible reason he would reach out to help you improve yourself. this is totally not him denying he’s doing this out of affection.
so that was a lie. it was totally out if affection. (also, yes, you did get great results by the end of the week as promised. for a while, you were concerned he was actually setting you up and the opposite would happen.)
the two of you started spending time with each other outside of project sessions and sure enough vil found himself falling harder. he wasn’t thrilled about this at first, but eventually he started thinking.. you two do make a nice pair, don’t you?
there was even a shift in his behavior towards you. of course, there was still a flair of that sharper side of him— it wouldn’t be vil if there wasn’t. but he was noticeably less standoffish and condescending. he became all around much kinder towards you. his behavior even bordered on affectionate, at times.
he did fear this romance was unrequited though. despite his change in behavior, he’s worried you’re still off-put by him for the way he used to act towards you, among other things.
meanwhile, what you were really feeling was : you very much have feelings for him, but him being so sweet lately cannot mean he likes you back, right??
you’re in for a shock when vil inevitably confesses. he can’t stand pining for too long.

author's note ; mandatory english isn't my first language message here !!!! the backstory (?) for this is actually more lighthearted compared to what u see in the actual kdrama 😭 not rlly happy w how this turned out tbh but i still wanted to push this out. i had to cut a lot down and speed everything to filter out the filler, so it may seem a little rushed/all over the place. the formatting and povs are also kind of a mess so pls bear w me 💔

'ZEROBASEONE's Center Zhanghao Goes Viral After Fans Find Him in An Old Documentary From High School'
Sometimes, we can't help but wonder how our favorite idols were back in highschool, or pre-debut, since we know little to nothing about them back then.
But that doesn't seem to be the case for ZEROBASEONE's center Zhanghao, who recently went viral after an old highschool documentary resurfaced, where he starred the films that walked us through his everyday life as a highschool student.
What's even more interesting is that he also had a co-star alongside him, going by the name Y/N L/N.
While many people found Zhanghao adorable, most seem to be more interested in this mystery person, speculating that they were even dating due to their good chemistry as seen in the documentary.
Fans are now asking for their reunion to see how they're doing and if they are still connected.
———
"Hyung? Who's Y/N L/N?"
Ricky asked, reading through the Koreaboo article that caught his attention after seeing the headline.
Zhanghao, who was on his phone, snapped his head up at the mention of the name.
It was a busy day, they were preparing for one of the many promotional stages they were doing for their debut.
"Huh?" was all he could respond with. He wasn't expecting your name to be mentioned again after so long, especially from one of his own members.
"Oh you didn't see it yet? You're going viral because apparently, people found your old documentary from highschool and someone named Y/N L/N co-starred with you?"
Matthew spoke, he leaned on Ricky's shoulder as he read the article again on the younger man's phone.
Hm. Zhanghao wasn't exactly sure how to answer. In all honesty, he completely forgot about the documentary until now.
Eventually, he settled on a vague answer.
"Oh, yeah. They were a friend back from highschool."
"Oooh! Do you still keep in touch with them? I'm surprised you never told me about them.”
Matthew leaned forward, now interested.
"Yah! You were friends with Kuanjui back in highschool?"
Ricky suddenly exclaims. The older men both look over and see him watching the documentary in question. Kuanjui, Zhanghao and who they presume to be Y/N were all in one frame together.
"Wow, is this Y/N? They're super pretty."
Zhanghao snatches the phone from the youngest, earning him a whine of protest.
"Do you mind? We're almost up next so you can't be slacking off right now.
Ricky pouts while Matthew laughs at their antics. As if on cue, their manager came in and told everyone else that they had to go soon. Zhanghao returns the phone to Ricky with a warning, and they all make their way to the side stage.
As they do so, Zhanghao's phone gets left behind. The phone lit up and a light 'ding!' signified that a text message got sent to him.
———
Soft music played throughout the room, it was calm and quiet.
Y/N sat near the window, the bright sunlight shining through as they hummed along to the song in the background while she painted calculated strokes on the large canvas.
Just then, Y/N's friend barges in, seemingly frantic. "Hey, Y/N! Have you seen this? Why didn't you tell me you knew??"
Eve stops in her tracks, after seeing the confused expression on their face.
"What?"
"You're telling me you know THE Zhanghao?! And why are people saying you probably even dated him? And you were friends with Kuanjui too?? I'm a fan of theirs, why didn't you tell me?!"
She continued to spit question after question to you, who looked at her with confusion and disbelief.
"Wait, hold on... where did you even get any of this?" Y/N interrupts, causing Eve to trail off from her rambling.
"Oh, so you really haven't seen yet? Apparently you were part of a documentary along with Zhanghao, and it showed you being friends with Kuanjui back in highschool. You're on Koreaboo and Soompi! Why didn't I hear any of this?!"
The mention of a documentary hit them with the realization. Of why Eve was freaking out about this, and everything she said suddenly made sense.
"Wait, what? Documentary? And I'm on Koreaboo and Soompi because of it? Is that why my phone's been blowing up?" they sulk in their seat little.
"I completely forgot I even did that..." they mumbled to themself.
Y/N runs their fingers through their hair. "Okay, fine, yeah it was me. The documentary was all Kuanjui's idea too, since he wanted to pursue being a film director back then before he decided on wanting to be an idol. It's a long story."
"Really? I mean... I have all day." Eve grins, while Y/N shoots back an incredulous look.
"Well good for you then, but I unfortunately don't. I still have to finish this project. It's very important."
"Man! You're such a killjoy!"
Y/N's phone lit up, but this time, with a different tone, which was a relief after the plethora of the notifications they got from random people finding and following their personal social media accounts.
Looking at the notification, it was a text message from Kuanjui with a simple "hey".
———
"...I'm sorry?"
Y/N stared at Kuanjui across as if he just told them he lost their most prized possession.
"Look! It won't even be that bad, it's just an interview and you can be done and over with everything by then." he tried to reason.
"Okay, but... why?"
"Why not? The people are curious to see how you're doing, amongst other things."
"Other things like...?" Y/N raises an eyebrow.
"Like how you two are doing as a pair! And I can't blame them, you two really did have good chemistry, everyone can see it, even me! If I didn't know you two personally, I'd also wanna know how the both of you are doing."
Kuanjui leans closer across the table closer to them, a sly grin on his face. "Besides, you'll get paid for it."
Y/N didn't really have any other counter for that, aside simply not wanting to. And besides, they were at least getting something out of it. After briefly pondering, they let out a sigh.
"...Fine. I'll do it."
Kuanjui almost jumped out of his seat. "Really?! Oh my god!"
"Actually, have you even asked Zhanghao himself yet? Do you think his agency will allow this?"
"Don't worry, I'll get him on board with this. Just trust me."
———
Zhanghao almost choked on his food. Kuanjui had to help him and made him drink water.
After calming down, he tries to distract himself by grilling the meat they had in front of them.
"Are you joking?"
"Nope. And before you ask, both Dispatch and I already talked to your agency about it, they think it'll be great publicity." replied Kuanjui.
Zhanghao sighs. "And here I thought you just wanted to be nice and treat me to dinner. If only I knew you're doing this to try and convince me to this... crazy idea of yours." he pauses. "Why though? You know we're both doing fine even if we don't do this."
"Why not? There's no reason for you to not do it, right? I thought you two ended on okay terms? If there's no bad blood and if you really moved on, then you should have no problem with this." Kuanjui counters, folding his arms and staring at Zhanghao.
The older man looks like he wants to say something back, but no words come out of his mouth.
Zhanghao knows he's right. There really isn't any good reason for him to decline. In reality, he was just avoiding Y/N and wanted to keep that up, even if he didn't know the reason why he was doing that in the first place.
"Please! You'll get paid if you do this, I promise I'll make it worth your time." Kuanjui pleads.
"Of course I did! They said yes too. Unlike you, it didn't take me this much convincing for them to be on board."
Silence followed. Zhanghao clearly seemed to be thinking and considering it, clear enough for Kuanjui to get the hint and attempt to reassure him.
"Look, you don't have to give me an answer right now, so don't worry. But, please please please just think about it and consider doing it."
At this, Zhanghao reluctantly nodded, mentally going through his possible options and ways to approach this situation.
———
"Jiwoong hyung? Can I ask you for some advice?"
Zhanghao asked the man who was making the two of them a cup of coffee. Zhanghao had gotten home quite late and Jiwoong stayed up to wait for him.
"Sure. What's up? Is this about the documentary?"
He replied, placing the mugs on the table.
"Huh? How'd you know?"
Jiwoong chuckled. "Ah, well, I actually overheard Kuanjui talking to some higher ups at the company earlier. Something about you doing an interview with the other person in the documentary?"
"Well... you know how Kuanjui and I had dinner earlier? He actually asked me to do an interview with the other person in the documentary."
"Okay, and you're asking me for advice because...?"
Zhanghao hesitates, before realizing if he doesn't answer honestly, he'll never get the advice he actually needs.
"The thing is, that 'other person' is actually now my ex, and I haven't seen nor heard from them ever since we broke up, so..." he trails off, unsure of what else to say.
As if he read his mind, Jiwoong cuts in "You're avoiding them and now don't know how to handle seeing them again?"
The younger nods, slightly surprised that he managed to almost exactly pin down the situation.
"Well, did you two end and last saw each other on bad terms? Because if that's the case, then I'd probably turn down the offer if that's the case."
"Ah, no..." Zhanghao replies "I actually don't know why I'm avoiding them, especially since it was basically a mutual agreement."
Jiwoong cocks an eyebrow at this. "So you're asking me if you should take the opportunity? Is that it?"
The former nods again, starting to become a little flustered.
"I mean, if you guys didn't have an unhealthy relationship or a messy break up, I don't see why you shouldn't. You said it yourself, it was a mutual breakup. Maybe you two will find some closure too."
Zhanghao lets his head fall to the table, mumbling. "Kuanjui said something along the lines of that too..."
"If two third parties said the same thing, then it's probably best to follow along with it. Trust me, maybe you'll get something good out of it."
———
"I'll do it."
A thud could be heard from the other side of the phone, followed by the sounds of fabric being frantically ruffled. "Seriously?!"
"Yeah. I thought about it and talked to some people, and I've decided that I'll do it."
"Oh my god, thank you so much, Zhanghao! I promise, I'll make it worth your time."
Beep—
And with that, the call between Kuanjui and Zhanghao dropped as the former immediately went to make another call.
"Hello?—"
"Y/N! Zhanghao just called me. He said he'll do it."
"...He did? That's surprising, but good to know."
"Yeah! I still have to make some calls, so I'll talk to you later, but I'll let you know if they'll release more info."
———
"Oh, so you agreed to the interview with Y/N?"
Matthew looks at Zhanghao, recalling the exchange they had a few days before.
"Really?! Oh, I'm definitely seated for that. I binged the episodes they put out and you guys had really good chemistry." Ricky peers up from his phone.
"Good to know you followed my advice." Jiwoong interjects, stopping himself mid bite, before asking Ricky what he even meant by 'being seated for that'.
"Hm? You asked Jiwoong hyung for advice? Why though?" Matthew asks once again, tilting his head.
"Ah, that's because..."
Zhanghao trails off, stopping himself for a moment.
"Y/N is actually ex. My only one, by the way. I told both the company and Dispatch that so, they might use it as part of the interview. The company didn't seem to mind that though."
The room suddenly went silent, the rest of the members looking at their center, causing him to become flustered.
"Yah! Why'd you guys go all quiet all of a sudden?! You're not supposed to be eavesdropping!"
Then, the room erupted. Now Zhanghao had to endure his members' endless teasing.
Later that night, he sat in his room. After a lot of consideration and debating with himself, he decided to watch the documentary where it all started.
Staring at the screen, he hesitated to press play.
On the other hand, Y/N was also in the same situation. Little did they know that they were both facing the same dilemma.
They both sat in front of their laptops and stared at the screens. In front of them were videos that contained their highschool moments and memories.
After heavy debating, they finally pressed play, all the memories flooding back to them.
—2015—
"Okay, class. I'll be giving back your test papers, so please take note of your scores."
The teacher handed the graded papers back, giving time for everyone to recieve their own.
Y/N recieved their paper. Looking at it, they saw that they got full marks.
'Yes!'
They cheered to themself, peering across the room to look at Zhanghao to try and see his reaction.
"Also, congratulations to both Y/N and Zhanghao for getting full marks! Please keep it up."
At that, Y/N had to resist the urge of banging their head against the table.
'Nevermind. Forget it.'
Y/N always saw Zhanghao as an academic rival, but he doesn't know that. He always kept to himself and carried on.
And that's how it always was for them, back and forth. Zhanghao doing his usual, while Y/N did everything to stay on top.
Sometimes it'd work, sometimes it wouldn't. No matter though, Zhanghao never failed to greet them, which in turn made them more irritated about it.
———
"Seriously? I forgot my umbrella..."
Y/N rummaged through her bag for the nth time again, as if by some miracle, the umbrella will show up.
They sighed, looking up and watching the pouring heavy rain.
"You forgot your umbrella?"
Zhanghao came from behind and stood next to them
"Yeah. What, gonna rub it in my face?"
He looked at them incredulously, almost looking offended.
"Um, no? I was gonna offer to walk with you to wherever you were going. I don't think you have an option anyways, since everyone's already pretty much left."
He's right. It was almost 5pm and the school was almost emptied out. If they remained stubborn and turned down his offer, they’d probably have to wait until the rain stopped, which clearly looked like it wasn’t happening anytime soon.
“Ah… I was planning to drop by this cafe nearby before heading home. I’m not sure if you have the time for that, though, so it’s all good if you just go ahead without me.”
“What are you talking about? I’m not leaving you here like this. Besides, I actually have a lot of free time but nothing to do, so I’ll come with you, don’t worry about it.”
Y/N stared at him, unsure of what to feel. Zhanghao then motioned them to go ahead, which they did.
The cafe visit and walk there was silent. Zhanghao didn’t seem to mind but Y/N on the other hand had a lot of thoughts running through their mind. The pair lightly bickered in line, with Zhanghao offering to pay for both their food and drinks while Y/N insisted on covering the expenses instead.
“Please, let me. Just think of it as thanks for helping out tonight.”
Zhanghao then let out a huff in defeat, stating that he’ll pay next time instead and that he’ll walk them home instead. His resolve was made clear and it was obvious he wouldn’t take no for an answer, so they reluctantly accepted.
More silence ensued for the walk until Y/N spoke for the first time since leaving the cafe.
“I’ve been meaning to ask… why are you doing this in the first place?”
“Hm? Why, does it bother you?”
Y/N sighed. “I should be asking you that. I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but I don’t really like you.” Zhanghao couldn’t help but laugh lightly at that. “Ouch. Is it because you consider me as an academic rival? ‘Cause I feel like the energy you’ve been trying to give me, aside from Kuanjui kind of implying it too…”
“Huh, you knew?” Y/N looked at him shocked, while he returned an amused expression. “You always gave me dirty looks when I’d score higher than you, and you’d always look my way with this smug look when you’re the one who’d score higher than me. It can be pretty obvious you’re rubbing things in sometimes, you know.”
They looked away, embarrassed. Y/N seriously didn’t think they were being that obvious to him about it, but looks like they thought wrong.
The man before them put a reassuring hand on their shoulder as they chewed on their lip trying to come up with an excuse.
“It’s alright, if it’s that serious for you I can hold back and let you rank 1st every time.”
Y/N’s heart fluttered just a little at the idea of him being willing to do that before they quickly snapped back to reality.
“W–Wait, no! I don’t want you to give all that up just for me, I promise. Besides, if I knew you were doing that, it’ll take away the feeling because it's… inorganic? So please, I’d feel even worse if you did that.”
“...Are you sure?” “Yeah. I’ll just work even harder to keep beating you next time! So you better watch out.”
Y/N nodded, hitting Zhanghao’s shoulder which caused him to burst out laughing.
By the time they both got home, they already considered each other friends and were on much better terms.
Soon enough, they warmed up to each other and hung out with Kuanjui together. They became an inseparable trio and always were seen together.
“Ohohoh! What’s this, Zhanghao and Y/N talking? That’s a first!”
Kuanjui approaches the pair and they noticed he held a camera in his hand, talking to it.
“Yah, shut up! What are you even doing with that?” Y/N lightly hits his shoulder as Zhanghao bites back a laugh.
“Ow! I’m trying to record as much of our highschool days as I can, like a documentary! What’s it to you anyways?”
He replies, rubbing his arm.
Y/N doesn’t say anything back glaring at him as he turns away and starts rambling to the camera.
Time passed and little by little, Y/N and Zhanghao slowly developed feelings for each other. They grew closer and more comfortable with each other. Glances from across their classroom turned into small, unsure touches, and little gifts with a “it reminded me of you, I thought you’d like it.” [ITALICS]
—2016—
Summer has come. The sun shone brightly and the pair stood at a spot they always came back to. It overlooked the city and they could see the lotus flowers in bloom in the nearby garden.
While Y/N admired the view, Zhanghao admired the person next to him. Silent and looking softly at their smiling face. Y/N felt his gaze and turned their head, slightly flustered once they realized that he’s been staring the entire time.
“You’re staring” “I know.”
“...Are you okay?” At this, Zhanghao gulped, unsure if he should say it. ‘It’s now or never. If you don’t tell them now, when will you?’ he thought to himself. Mustering all his courage, he takes a deep breath and faces Y/N again.
“Can I tell you something? Please promise me this won’t ruin our friendship.”
Y/N looks back at him with a confused expression, unsure of how to respond.
“Um, okay. Is everything alright though? You’re kind of scaring me…”
“I like you, Y/N.”
Just then, it was almost like time stopped between them. Y/N stood in shocked silence for a while before Zhanghao started mumbling.
“Itsokayifyoudon’tlikemebackIjusthopethisdoesn’truinourfriendshipan—”
“Hey, hey! It’s okay!” Y/N took his head between their hands, forcing him to look at them. After noticing he calms down, they continue.
“I, um. Actually like you too, so…” they continue, sheepishly rubbing their arm and looking away, flustered.
It was Zhanghao’s turn to be shocked and silent. He was visibly processing the information before he looked back at Y/N. “Seriously?”
He gets a nod in response. After realizing that Y/N really was being serious, he couldn’t help but break out into a smile and pull them in a tight hug.
They both laugh and start to excitedly talk about where their relationship goes from here, all while they looked back at the colorful lotus flowers in front of them.
———
“Hey, are you serious about taking the Gaokao so soon?”
Y/N asked Zhanghao, who sat across from them and next to Kuanjui.
“Hmm, well, yeah. I actually meet the criteria and have the qualifications for it. You should go for it, too! You’re just as qualified for that as I am.”
“And leave me here?” Kuanjui cuts in, whining.
“Urgh. I dunno, as much as I wanna do that, I also wanna take it slow and enjoy highschool, y’know? Besides, aren’t you taking up Geoscience? I think I’ll be fine if I don’t rush things since I’m taking Fine Arts.”
Y/N sighs.
Zhanghao hums. “That’s true, but I’m actually not that sure anymore. I might take music if Geoscience doesn’t work out.”
Kuanjui looks up from his food, speaking with a stuffed face. The table shook at the sudden movement, causing the camera to almost lose its balance.
“What are you even still doing with that camera? You’re still doing that documentary?”
Y/N asks and they only earn a ‘shut up’ from him. He then turns to Zhanghao to ask.
“Seriously? So suddenly?”
“Like I said, only if it doesn’t work out. Who knows?”
“You seem so relaxed about a pretty big decision, Hao. You should take this seriously!”
Y/N lightly scolds and hits him. The trio all burst into laughter as the topic starts to divert to their school and classes.
—2018—
“Wah! I’m so glad we both got into the same uni!” Y/N exclaims as they pull Zhanghao into a hug upon meeting each other. “Still, you’re a year level above me which kinda pisses me off. I should’ve taken the Gaokao when you did, too.” they sigh as the pair pulls away from each other.
Zhanghao laughs at this. “Yeah, yeah. It’s a shame Kuanjui had to go back to Taiwan though, we could’ve had a complete reunion!”
“Well, it’s not like there’s much we can do about it anyways. If anything, I can’t believe you dropped Geosci for music! You play the violin now, right? How’s that going for you?
”It was a pretty big decision, I admit, but I found that I really have a passion for music compared to Geosci.” Zhanghao replies, before briefly changing the topic.
“Hey, why don’t we talk about this over lunch instead? My treat, to celebrate your very first day here!”
“Really? Who am I to turn down free lunch?”
The couple breaks out in a fit of giggles as they walk off, discussing a multitude of different topics.
—2021—
“Baobei.”
Zhanghao quietly calls out. Y/N hums, turning to look at him as they both stood at the same spot where they both got together.
The man before them pulls out a small box, softly smiling as he hands it to Y/N.
“Happy 5th anniversary to us.”
Y/N looks at him in shock, before opening the box and finding a Chai hairpin that were decorated with lotus flowers at the ends.
“I know you don’t normally wear hairpins but I saw it and it reminded me of you. It reminded me of us and how we got together when the lotus were in full bloom back in summer. Well, aside from the meaning of the flower itself.”
Zhanghao explains, lightly chuckling at the end.
“Are you kidding? It's so pretty. I love it. I love you.”
They both lean into each other, and as they gazed at the view overlooking the night city, Y/N whispers.
“Happy 5th to us, love.”
———
“I’m leaving the country soon.”
Zhanghao breaks the silence. They stood at their favorite spot once again, where they’d shared a lot of significant memories together.
“Huh?”
“You know Yuehua, right? I told you about it. The agency’s been following me around for over the past 3 years now. I’ve decided to sign with them now that I got my degree. I want to become an idol.”
Y/N stared at him, wanting to say a million things but in the end, couldn’t bring themselves to say it all. “...I see.”
With a deep breath, they fully turn to him with a sad look.
“Let's break up then.”
“...What?” Zhanghao’s brows furrowed.
“Let’s break up, Hao. We can’t be together like this. If you want to become an idol and leave the country for it, then I’ll let you. You can’t be in a relationship as a trainee and I don’t wanna hold you back from your dreams.” “Wait, can’t we talk about this first?” he slowly becomes more panicked at the situation.
“Baobei. Please understand.” Y/N pleads.
“I don’t want to hold you back and maintain a long distance relationship. I don’t want to distract you. Believe me, I don’t want this either, but it’s better for both of us.”
The couple stares at each other, either one unable to say anything further as their tears start to fall. Zhanghao swallows.
“I’m sorry.” he says, voice barely above a whisper.
“It’s okay. It’s not your fault.”
Y/N hesitates, but starts rummaging through their bag. They pulled out a small box that looked all too familiar to the pair. They take the hairpin out of it, snapping one of the pins off and placing it on Zhanghao’s palm with a small ‘here’.[ITALICS]
“We might not be together anymore from this point on, but promise me you’ll keep this, take good care of it, and carry it around with you when you can, so when we meet again, we can piece them together. Doesn’t matter if either one of us has someone else by then. It’ll serve as a reminder of the times we had and things we shared. I love you.”[ITALICS]
They both burst into tears, hugging each other as if their life depended on it, before deciding to (hesitantly) part ways for good.
That was the last time they saw each other since then.
—PRESENT DAY—
“Kuanjui, was this really a good idea?”
Y/N sighs, as they look in the mirror and restlessly adjust their clothes. They seem to be making sure that something stays in their pockets.
“Don’t get cold feet now, Y/N! It’ll be fine, I promise.”
“When is he coming? I haven’t seen him in ages so I don’t know how to–”
Y/N’s sentence gets interrupted as the studio’s doors open, revealing Zhanghao as he stepped in. He looks around before noticing Kuanjui and Y/N standing and staring at him. Upon seeing them, he gives a polite smile and a small bow.
“Um. I’ll go grab a drink. Stay here.” Kuanjui tells Y/N and before they could even do anything, he was already out of the room.
Traitor!
Sighing, they turn back to Zhanghao and observe him. He approaches them and they hold their breath.
“Hi.” Zhanghao greets.
“Hey.”
“Long time no see, huh?”
Silence settles between them and neither one is sure of what else to say.
“...You’ve changed, Hao.” Y/N musters up a smile, but it’s clear to both of them that it’s a sad one.
“Yeah. So did you.”
“So you’re an idol now? Congrats. I’m so happy for you.”
Something inside Zhanghao visibly shifts but Y/N can’t tell what exactly.
As he opens his mouth to try and give back a reply, a staff member comes in, cutting them both off. They decide to get a chance to properly talk again later as they were both led into the interview room, where the staff member explains the the basics
“You guys will be sitting there and we’ll simply show you questions on a card. You can answer as honestly and freely as possible. Because of that, you only have the flow of the interview.”
They both nod and the cameras start rolling. They do the introductions and read the first question.
‘How did you two meet?’
“This was already pretty obvious but we went to the same school and were classmates.”
Zhanghao starts.
‘What were your first impressions of each other?’
Y/N lightly giggles at this question.
“I considered Zhanghao to be my academic rival but I eventually found out that he didn’t see me that way and only thought of me as a mutual friend thanks to Kuanjui. After he helped me out, we became friends.”
Zhanghao chuckles at this before answering.
“Well, yeah. Like they said, I only knew them because they were friends with Kuanjui. I did think they were pretty nice at first, then I thought they were cold after a while because I thought they hated me .”
At that, the studio’s atmosphere instantly lightened and they were less tense with each other now.
‘We heard that you two used to date. What was the relationship like?’
“Ah, well… we were pretty much inseparable once we became friends, so not much changed and we spent a lot of time together. I guess we were more comfortable and open with each other?”
Y/N answers, careful not to say anything that may cause a scandal. Zhanghao simply nods in agreement.
‘Why did you two break up?’
The room goes silent for a while as the pair looked at each other, gulping. As Zhanghao hesitates to answer, Y/N cuts in.
“Just differences. He wanted to be an idol and had to move to Korea for that. I wasn’t sure on what to do yet but I stayed behind. I didn’t want to hold him back by keeping a long distance relationship and distract him from his dreams.”
“It was a mutual agreement, so it wasn’t a messy breakup or anything. We were together for over 5 years.”
Zhanghao adds as he nods.
Using past tense to discuss their relationship stung them more than both had expected. You’d think they should be used to it by now.
‘Did you two keep in contact afterwards?’
“Honestly? No. As far as I know, this is the first time we’ve seen each other since we broke up.”
“Yeah. Even though we lived in the same city and ended up moving to the same one as well, this is the first time we've seen each other in person after all that.”
‘Did your lives turn out the way you expected them to 10 years back?’
“No, actually. I wasn’t expecting to end up being on good terms with Zhanghao back then, moreso dating him. I also wasn’t expecting to move out to the country either, so I wouldn’t exactly say that.
“Absolutely not. I wanted to pursue Geoscience at first, but I eventually decided that it wasn’t for me and that I wanted to pursue music instead. So I switched schools and picked up the violin. If you told my 16 year old self that I’d be a K-pop idol 10 years from now, I’d probably think you were crazy.”
The pair laughs at this, knowing that it was true for the both of them.
‘For this segment, we’ll be leaving you alone in the room for 10 minutes. Is there anything you want to say to each other before we wrap up?’
The room went silent and their faces slowly dropped. It stayed like that for almost a minute as the staff all walked out.
“Um…” Y/N starts, turning to Zhanghao, unsure if they should even say this. ‘It’s now or never, Y/N’
Taking a deep breath, they continue. “When I was breaking up with you, I was kind of hoping you’d fight for us a little more. I know that I ended it, but why didn’t you chase after me? Sure, I was trying my best to convince you, but why didn’t you stop me?”
Zhanghao’s eyes turned glassy as he stared at them, watching while they continued.
Y/N takes a deep breath. “I was constantly lying to myself that I was over you, even though I moved to Seoul after you did, and throughout these years I would silently wish that I’d run into you and meet you again.” their voice cracks slightly as tears prick their eyes.
Zhanghao smiles sadly. “I don’t know if you knew this, but ever since we broke up, I’d constantly ask one of your close friends for updates. Everyday, I’d ask them. When they told me you were moving to Korea, I was a little devastated because I knew I couldn't ask them anymore, and finding you would be much harder now.”
“You would constantly look for me?”
“Yeah. When I debuted, I thought about you and how I’ve finally achieved my dreams, but you weren’t there for me anymore. You weren’t with me. And I didn't know how to feel about that.”
“Oh.”
…
“I watched you though. I watched you on the show, your debut show, all of it. I watched your life through pictures and the videos your staff would upload.” Y/N fidgets with their hands.
“...Do you remember that promise from before? When we broke up? Here.” Zhanghao asks out of nowhere, pulling out the same Chai hairpin from 5 years before and handing his piece.
Y/N looks back and forth between the pin in their hand and the man before them, tears threatening to spill. “You… really kept it?”
“Of course. I’m not one to go back on my promises, you know?”
At this, Y/N pulls out their half, the one they were fiddling with in their pocket earlier.
“I just… didn’t think you would. I was planning to give you my [ITALICS] half instead.”
“Do you still wanna piece them together?” Zhanghao asks, and Y/N contemplates on it. Complete silence once again.
“No.”
“...No?”
“Yeah, no. Here, keep your piece. The fact that you still remembered and even brought your half of the pin already means a lot to me. You can think of it as me giving back to you. This pin already means a lot to me, so I want you to keep it for good now.” Y/N hands back the pin.
“Okay. If that’s what you want.”
At this, the staff quietly open the door and pour back in, indicating the end of the 10 minutes, as well as the interview as a whole.
They both dab away their tears and take the time to calm down. After doing so, they did the outro and were finally free to go.
Y/N checked their phone as soon as they got off and saw that Kuanjui had to leave to take care of something. ‘Let me know how it went’, the text read.
They stepped out of the building and were greeted with the sun shining brightly over them, completely contrasting to the bittersweet feelings they were having at the moment.
“So…”
Zhanghao breaks the silence, hands stuffed in his pockets.
“I’ll see you around?”
“That’s it? You’re not even gonna exchange socials, numbers, anything?”
Y/N lightly scoffs, and Zhanghao genuinely smiles at this.
“Looks like you didn’t change much.” they exchange both socials and numbers, and couldn’t help but stare at each other in silence afterwards.
Zhanghao’s phone rings. Seeing the caller’s ID, he turns to Y/N. “My members seem to be looking for me now. Let’s catch up some other time, yeah?” he smiles.
“Yeah. We can do that.”
“It was nice seeing you Y/N. In all honesty, I was afraid to see you again, but I’m more reassured now after all this…” he trails off.
“And I missed you. A lot.”
“I missed you too. A lot.” Y/N smiles at him, mirroring his words.
“I’ll see you then. Bye.”
“Bye.”
Zhanghao walks away and Y/N had to resist the urge to chase after him. Watching his figure leave their peripheral vision, they finally allowed a lingering thought to take over them.
“I still love him, don’t I?”

Could I trouble you for a book recommendation? As someone who usually pretty exclusively reads fanfiction or nonfiction, I’ve never been good at finding good fiction and you always seem like you have interesting reads!
hey anon!
if you have anything specific you're looking for, genre-wise/dynamic-wise/tone-wise etc., please feel free to send another ask! :)
for now, I've gone with a list of books that I all rated five stars when I read them, that remind me of fanfiction (or at least, the things *I* like in fanfiction!)
Emily Wilde's Encyclopaedia of Faeries by Heather Fawcett This is a fantasy novel with an academic rivals-to-lovers romance in it, focusing on an academic trying to document fairy activity in Iceland (in a world where faeires are real). The way the romance is written reminds me of my favourite fanfic dynamics (mutual pining high Charisma x high Intelligence, my beloved), but the plot of this novel is also really fucking stellar and it holds it's own not as a romance book.
Uprooted by Naomi Novik if you've read anything by astolat on AO3, then you've read Naomi Novik lol :')))) i prefer novik's fic, but Uprooted is one of my favourite novels. This is like, sorcerer x wizard, but again I feel like while the romance has fic qualities the plot of this novel really holds up (no one I know has been able to put it down for the last 100 pages. You then read the last 100 pages so fucking fast that you don't remember anything that happened.)
In Other Lands by Sarah Rees Brennan Sarah Rees Brennan writes with that humorous-but-serious style that I like in fanfic - like, the emotional moments hit so hard, but the rest is a wee bit silly and the jokes always land. This is a coming of age novel about a human guy who goes to portal-quest magic school, but basically tries to implement diplomatic/bureaucratic solutions to problems. The main character is a sarcastic bisexual after my own heart.
The Cruel Prince by Holly Black This is the vibe most enemies-to-lovers fics wished they had, to be honest. This book is very easy to read, but the relationship between the two leads is Very Good. It tails off in the third book (still sad about this, to this day), but the 'let's be worse together' dynamic really had me by the throat for a while! Jude is an adopted human girl living in Faerie, ruthlessly intelligent and desperate to keep herself and her family safe, trying to find ways to survive in a place where she is constantly under threat. Cardan is an asshole. But he's about to be humbled like you'll never fucking believe.
The Unspoken Name by AK Larkwood The Serpent Gates duology is the book series I've read most recently that gave me the serotonin hit of a solidly good fanfic. The author has this perfect balance of humour and solid, heartrending character work. Csorwe is a girl who has been selected to be the Sacrificial Bride to a god called the Unspoken One, but at the last minute is saved by a wizard who offers to take her away from her death and give her a new life.
#asks#bookish posts#book recs#these are all really fucking solid books I'll be surprised if you don't like at least one of them!

MOOT GAME: " make up a trope for your moots and their biases. doesn’t need to be romantic. can be crackfic/funny. ^ㅇ(๑>◡<๑)ㅇ^ "
well, i'm late to this but let's goooo
@thepoopdokyeomtouched -> dokyeom
aznik! both of them a equally unhinged. crack fic for sure. maybe a strangers to lovers where they met on a ride at an amusement park and competed to see who could scream louder lmao.
@aaniag -> hoshi
aania! very lovely and chaotic. defo a high school friends to lovers arc. like a school trip where one of them confesses to the other at 3am when they found the other outside stargazing or something.
@urfavouriteanon -> scoups
haven't interacted much but gives off very fluffy vibes. a coffee shop meet cute for sure. maybe he's a barista who memorised your order and draws cute doodles on your cup and one day he straight up just writes his number on the cup hehe.
@eightlightstar -> seungkwan
vittoria! my literal older sister lmao. i see a academic rivals to lovers type arc for her. like, idk, maybe kwan absolutely loathes her and she's the same, they hate each other's majors. and then one fated night in a library and the next thing you know, they're getting married next spring lolz.
@smileycarat -> wonwoo
em! haven't interacted with much but wonwoo for sure. i'm thinking idolverse love at first sight because of her idol! reader x idol! wonwoo works. like that, exactly.
@chweverni -> woonhak
hyeon! one of my favourite kids on here. like a childhood friends to lovers with woonhak. they end up parting in high school due to circumstances but meet again in university and start seeing each other in a new light kind of thing.
@welcometomyoasis -> joshua
shu! both of them are very lovely and gentle people. i feel like elementary school teachers in a secret relationship is such a nice trope for them. like the students she the way their teachers look at each other oml i'm gonna fic this!
@mangocustard16 -> mingyu
mango! i feel like it would be a classic case of love at first sight. he falls for her after seeing her for the first time on a fancall lmaoo. or maybe, he sees her pop up occasionally at a cafe he frequents and musters up the courage to ask her out one day hehehe.
@woozvc -> woozi
nora! guitarist x vocalist trope 100%. maybe add secret/hidden relationship to that as well. yeah, that seems about right where woozi's the vocalist. ohmygawwwd. even better if the fans ship them and they frequently see edits of themselves on social media lol.
@slytherinshua -> jeonghan
zanna! i haven't interacted much with her but from what i know of her she's seems very chaotic and cute. kinda like a opposites trope. chaotic x tired 24/7 heh. also, she has a BOMB taste in music like in god. every single ONF song she recommended to me, literal GOLD.
@nonononranghaee -> myung jaehyun
hafs! both of them radiate golden retriever energy to the max. like a high school sweethearts trope. definitely the most beloved couple of the entire school and also probably got the superlative for 'most likely to end up married' in their yearbook for 2 years in a row. but i also agree with what mia said about shipping her with hao here.
@kikohao -> dino
mia! my child (real). a college setting where they're in different majors but end up paired together for a year-end project. most likely dance major x music major. also, has fire taste in music which backs up this claim so. meeting every week to work in the project and falling a little in love everyday. i see the potential for some mutual pining and slow burn as well.
thank you sm to the anon who sent this in. also, hmy if you want me to write the trope i gave to you lol.
#cherry.moots#cherry.games#this was honestly so fun hehe#side note: MY FINALS ARE OVER#I'M OFFICIALLY DONE WITH 11TH GRADE#SENIOR YEAR LET"S GOOOOOOOOOOO#cherry.rambles

wait i would love to hear your thoughts on ravenclaw marlene...
Oh my god oh my god oh my god OKAY
RAVENCLAW MARLENE MY BELOVED
Firstly, I have always headcanoned Marlene to be from Ravenclaw because the first Marauders fic I read that featured her (The Marauders series by Pengiwen which I will always recommend, you can read it on wattpad and ao3) She was a Ravenclaw and then when I first started posting in this fandom which was in 2018 and I was in the video editing side of Instagram there was like 10 of us and a few of them also saw Marlene as a Ravenclaw. Even tho her being a Gryffindor had always been more popular it wasn’t uncommon back then to see someone hc her as Ravenclaw.
I have just always loved this head canon and they could never make me hate it. I find it very frustrating how a lot of fans will complain about how in the original series all the good guys are Gryffindor and all the bad ones are Slytherin while Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff get overlooked but then do the exact same thing with The Marauders characters.
The way I see Marlene I don’t see her as the smartest in her class or the most skilled. I think she was sorted into Ravenclaw because of her creativity and her logical outlook on life. She’s not exactly booksmart but she’s very clever and can use her knowledge elsewhere.
And I love what she brings to the Ravenclaws as a whole. Everyone has a different opinion on who was apart of The Marauders year and which house everyone was in but here’s my personal head canon on Marlenes dynamic with the other Ravenclaws in her year. (I still head canon that she was apart of The Marauders year)
Emmeline Vance was her best friend and I mean like James and Sirius type shit. Emmeline and Marlene are those cute opposite attracts besties where Emmeline is more booksmart Marlene is more streetsmart but yet somehow they share one braincell.
Hestia Jones is Marlene’s worst enemy. They got off on the wrong foot when they first met and ever since kept finding new reasons to hate each other. There was no peace.
Sybill Trelawney was someone that Marlene liked and respected but wasn’t friends with mainly because Sybill was best friends with Hestia. It was a sort of agreement between the four girls that Marlene got Emmeline and Hestia got Sybill so while Marlene never disliked her she never saw her as anything other then an extension to Hestia
Kingsley Shacklebolt was one of the only people who Marlene would let take care of her. He was two months younger then her and yet still somehow her big brother. When she would go off the rails he was the one who would pull her back
Gilderoy Lockheart was Marlene’s weak point. When they first met in their first year Gilderoy told her about his two older sisters who were squibs and how they didn’t like him because he was a wizard (leaving out the fact that he was heavily favoured by their parents and extremely arrogant) and Marlene’s older sister instincts came out. She was always the one to call Gilderoy out on any of his bullshit and always made sure to humble him but could never truly dislike him. If Kingsley was her big brother then Gilderoy was her little one. They both also bonded heavily over Quidditch
(canonically Gilderoy was born in 1964 but i got too attached to him being in this year before i noticed that he's a few years younger so please just play along)
Alexander Stabbins was someone Marlene was friendly with but not friends with. Alexander and Hestia had this whole academic rivals to lovers thing going on and Marlene was Alexanders biggest supported when it came to him taking down Hestia. Realistically, Marlene knew that they fancied each other and dreaded the day when she wouldn’t have their arguments as entertainment. Either way, Alexander was company she was never upset to have
ALSO TO SING US OUT HERE ARE A BUNCH OF RAVENCLAW MARLENE HEADCANNONS
- She was the Quidditch captain during her fifth and sixth year at Hogwarts. During her sixth year she captained Hogwarts first ever all girls team
- After a night out in her sixth year she, Emmeline, Kingsley and Alexander got locked out of the common room because they were too drunk to solve the riddle to get in
- SHE LOOKED SO FUCKING GOOD IN BLUE YALL. SO FUCKING GOOD
- As you could’ve probably guessed from her dynamics with her house mates, the Ravenclaw class of 1978 got into a lot of arguments. They argued like they were dysfunctional cousins at a family reunion. One time during their second year a fight got so out of hand that Flitwick locked them in the charms classroom and made them do team bonding exercises as a punishment
- Speaking of Flitwick, Marlene respected him a lot as he helped her come to terms with her sexuality and the homophobia from her family by telling her about the discrimination that he had to face being half elf
- During her sixth year Marlene sent out gift baskets to James Potter, Dorcas Meadowes and Edgar Bones (the other three Quidditch captains) and left them a note saying that she hopes the gift basket is enough of an apology in advance for destroying them during the Quidditch season. (Dorcas set hers on fire)
RAVENCLAW MARLENE THEY COULD NEVER MAKE ME HATE YOU
#RAVENCLAW MARLENE MY BELOVED#i would sell my soul for people to jump on this headcannon with me#the marauders#harry potter#the marauders era#marauders#marlene mckinnon#emmeline vance#hestia jones#alexander stebbins#kingsley shacklebolt#gilderoy lockhart#sybill trelawney#dorlene#ravenclaw#aces headcanons

regulily academic rivals to lovers
hey hello i go here!!! regulily my beloveds. yes i see this version of them
and okay so they wouldnt be intentionally competing with each other at first, they would both just be doing their own thing and trying as much as they usually would. but theyre both competitive. so when someone mentions how close it is between them for who is the top student/best marks on a project/something like that, well then they would have no choice but to actually compete now. it drives them insane. they both spend all of their time working harder to beat the other. but that ends up meaning they are both constantly in the library and trying to take out the same books and their paths wont stop crossing so they just... they go with it.
i feel like in this situation it would unravel a bit while theyre competiting with each other that they both get stuck on different things and have to end up reluctantly helping each other. it's not what they want to do but they do it anyway otherwise someone else has the chance to best both of them.
and in all of my regulilys, they fall without realizing they have. they're together wihtout actually being together. the time they spend together quickly divulges from just working on school to just being with each other and by the end of term they're beyond in love and there is no where else to go but to each other. and neihter of them know how it happened either. like last they checked they weren't friends they were rivals and now they're ?? in love????
