I am back! I know it's been a few days, but this week has been the absolute pits at work. Semester start up, new students, ramp up in projects, and alarm testing; it has been A Lot.

Aroace Alastor

Hoo boy here we go- This one might make some people mad at me, so I'll preface by saying I do not want to start a fight and as long as you respect my business, I'll respect yours. But let's get this over with-

First off, I genuinely don't understand how some people can see the Ace-In-The-Hole quote and still believe that Alastor is only intended to be asexual and not also aromantic. Yes, the term Rosie used for purpose of the pun was 'ace', but can we look at the context of that moment before jumping to conclusions?

Rosie, motioning to Charlie: "Oh, who's this you brought with you? Come now, Alastor, she's much too young for you! Oh, I'm just kidding. I know you're an ace in the hole!"

Her original statement implies nothing sexual, only that he's involved in a relationship with Charlie, and she follows it up with why she knows that couldn't be because he's an 'ace in the hole'. I don't think you have to read too far between the lines to see that.

I would also like to say that when Vivienne has spoken about his orientation before, I recall her saying that she didn't want to confirm him being aromantic so that she wouldn't 'ruin anyone's fun', which I just feel like is an odd thing to say if she wasn't already explicitly picturing him as aroace. If she thought he had romantic attraction, why wouldn't she just say that? What fun would that ruin? I also feel like keeping things like this ambiguous just to appease the shippers is a little weird, but I digress-

And to those of you who I know are saying "But aromantic people can be in relationships too!!" *deep inhale* yeah I know. I'm not gonna pretend you're not right about that, but there are also aroace people who have exactly 0 interest in romance or sex at all. This is the part of the post that really is based on how I interpret certain moments, but to me he is absolutely one of those people. I don't really know where people get any vibes of him being interested in that stuff. I have never once looked at him and thought "Yeah I could see him in a romantic relationship with *insert character here*". Even aside from attraction in general, since that's what we'd be talking about at this point anyway, he just seems like the kind of guy who'd rather work and live independently instead of relying on anyone, whether practically or emotionally (which is also probably part of the reason he never joined the Vees, but that's another topic entirely). Hell, I'm pretty sure he's in heavy denial about even developing any kind of care or friendship with the people at the hotel (ie. the episode 8 scene with him and Niffty).

The only ships I see him involved in with people he doesn't hate (so ignoring RadioApple, RadioHusk, and StaticRadio. But to be real, maybe the fact all his main ships are enemies to lovers coded says something about the whole situation, but that's just me-) are Charlastor - which I will not even try to discuss here, people aren't gonna like this post as it is - and RadioRose. Rosie and him would at least be fair, if it weren't for one thing (which is also personal opinion on my end), and I don't know exactly how to word it. I'm tempted to say she has wingwoman vibes? But she knows he's aro, so that's not the right word, but there's vibes of like, she probably did act as a wingwoman before she realized that about him or something.. There's also something about her joking around like "Oh this is the girl? You have a girlfriend and I'm only now meeting her?" is almost giving motherly behavior. Idk man they're just besties to me, I could see them in a QPR though (not that they'd probably label it that way, considering the word queerplatonic is likely just complete gibberish to Alastor lmao).

So to summarize: It feels incredibly likely, if not practically canon, that Alastor was written with aromanticism in mind, even if Vivienne refuses to explicitly state it. Subtext and not-that-subtle implications can say just as much about a character as word of God, especially when that God has explicitly told us why she won't confirm or deny this information. Do I think any of this will stop people from shipping him romantically with literally any other character? No ofc it won't, and that's okay, that's just what fandoms do. I do think there's something to say for the fact the one aroace (or even at the very least asexual) character gets constantly shipped with everyone else in the cast, but this post is long enough I think. The only point of posting this is that I wanted to get information out there in one post to say "Hey, let's look a little bit past the surface for a second before saying there's no proof of him being aromantic"

What is a random scene you would have liked to have seen in canon?

0. Markus converting machine Connor / Connor having no choice but to deviate on his own due to SI reaching some peak, without a choice to remain non-deviant

I don't like the scene with him "become deviant/stay a machine". It's the most underwhelming while also most awaited scene of the game that could have been better, whether by having a scene that shows Markus converting him (slipping into his memories through an interface and making it a combined effort in breaking those walls for him) or through some kind of emotional shock (maybe later in the game)

If there is a scenario in which he has no choice but to remain a machine, there should have been the opposite. Markus vs Connor fight scene being only available in machine route is a crime.

1. HANK DECIDING NOT TO THROW CONNOR DOWN THAT ROOF 💯

I hate hate hate how that's the only decision he can make while Connor can decide to change his mind on this. I mean, I get it, but also, I wish there was a way for Connor to turn deviant somewhere during or after this scene. And I know there are people (exactly one lol) who'll fucking bite me for that and call me a stupid mf but Yeah, I want that

"You're a machine, Connor. Just a machine"

Well, there could have been literally no choice for Connor to become anything else, and you're a fucking hypocrite

1.1 OR Connor throwing himself off that roof like he does with Allen, but it being like

Hank: "<...> But humans don't come back, do they?"

2. Connor calling Hank out on his bullshit after shooting Chloe (previously being shot himself)

The fact that we can Never call him up on his hypocrisy is ANNOYING. I want to rub it back at him.

Being presented with a test, but turning the gun on Kamski, or instead stretching a hand to help Chloe up (while converting), then handing the gun to her to decide.

I want a reverse-kamski test.

4. Alice saying Kara who she is when they're at Rose.

Get rid of that stupid fucking policeman scene and finally make it about Alice and Kara. And remove that stupid twist about her "knowing all along"

5. Jericrew members each talking about their past and how they got to Jericho first chapter they're introduced.

Not only North (although she might be the one who reveals her story later, like she does in canon)

6. Amanda showing more appealing traits making the player like her (more).

Making her look reasonable and trustworthy, not only strict and chronically disappointed to the point where status "betrayed" makes the player celebrate instead of going "oh, I think I might have fucked up". I don't have a specific scene in mind for this, just a general vibe.

7. EGG CONNOR 🥚

Show me. At least one scene, I'm begging. I don't know the context, whether it's Markus's final speech where EVERYONE is taking their skin off (please, why isn't it real), or maybe he himself turns it off to make a point, perhaps in response to Hank's whining about "what are you really" and him going skinless looking him dead in the eyes and going "a machine" or actually not saying anything, turning the skin off is enough of a power-move that doesn't require more words to be said out loud.

8. RA9 obsession among at least one of the protagonists. How is that they're all immune to that?

I don't know if I'd like it to be played along with RA9 = the player with some of them breaking the fourth wall and saying something like "RA9, help me" looking straight into the camera, or for it to be something completely different but idk, I really wish something could have been done about it. Perhaps it being a password needed to break the walls/escape the garden?

9. Appearance of current CyberLife CEO on the news or if not CEO then SOMEONE who's currently working in that company.

How is it possible that we only see Kamski who had been away from CyberLife for years and know absolutely nothing about who's currently in charge? Show usss, let them say something publicly.

10. More Perkins scenes.

Let him live his villain era to the fullest. Perhaps making him machine Connor's new partner after he's out of the DPD. I wanna see the two of them working together in order to achieve common goal of stopping Markus.

I think I'm forgetting something...ah YES (ignore the order, it means little about the significance of those non-existent scenes)

11. Markus crying during the revolution

Not only when Carl dies. (Why is it more soul-crushing for him than the death of his friend or lover?)

I can never understand how could they create a scene where Simon/North is literally giving him their heart and him taking it with barely any visible emotion. And in general, the way Markus can loose all of them, every single one of them, and never tear up. FUCK, let him SOB

If not here, make him have tears during his final speech or close to the end of it. From all the weight from recent events and grieve accumulated over the time of the game to the point where it's not possible to contain it in a stoic way. He's not a damn captain Picard to take everything with a strict frown.

Okay. I feel like I'm forgetting something, but it's a solid list already.

Oh my god!! Luna making a (quick) comeback!! Yeah, so rare. I've gotten way too into Palia, I'm not gonna lie. This random thought came into my brain while I was watching random videos, "who would they go for?" and it suddenly became a need to make this. I'm not gonna make any promises, as usual, I'm just trying to get myself in the creative mood after such a long time. I'm doing this for reasons that I will 99.9% not be able to fulfill once more. I apologize if I lack a lot compared to previous posts. Ignoring that, let's do this! Little disclaimer: I haven't gotten that far on the lore or the relationships on their own so these assumptions and descriptions of the characters could not be completely accurate!

I found it really hard at first, not gonna lie.

I think he would find Tamala really attractive, given her whole witchy vibe (and overall attitude, I guess).

There's something about her that I feel matches Jiwoong really well.

It would be a kinda interesting pair, a vampire and a witch, who would have thought??

When asked he would simply say "age is nothing but a number" (obviously wouldn't apply out of the adult context!)

Zhang Hao

This one was way easier than other members.

Funny enough, he has his priorities straight.

I feel like he's the type of person to fall for the brain first (which sounds kinda creepy and weird without context oopsie).

He would try his best to focus in and prioritize all of the quests that are related to her in any way.

There's also a chance he would kinda get jealous of Hekla, but it wouldn't go farther than a simple joke.

Assuming he actually loves to talk non-stop about "smart stuff" and throw around random facts he's learned, he would be all "smile and nod" (and blush) in real life if she wasn't a fictional character.

Wasn't sure about adding him, but I found it really cute.

Once again, going for the popular option here, he would have a crush on Tish.

I can not see this any other way.

He's a shy baby but would try his absolute best to have a "clear" mind when it comes to choosing the best responses on dialogue.

You know, he wants to show that he can act like a rational adult too.

So I came up with this little silly idea at work to briefly distract myself from The Horrors (mental illness)...

and it wasn't supposed to be anything more than that but I just keep rotating it in my mind now..

Like I just keep thinking abt the canon blade eaters and Silva (my oc, who'd probably be a bit of a special case bc he got a full core crystal that was modified to replace his heart)

I think Torna wouldn't rlly have any moral qualms abt letting Mik occasionally munch on some people and they'd probably even let him sap some energy from their core crystal collection so he wouldn't die. Mik probably wouldn't exactly love it but he's like kind of "whatever" about it. He's working towards destroying the world anyway. Doesn't really matter when these people die.

Zeke would probably despise Amalthus for having him turned into a blade eater and he'd probably despise himself for what he has to do to survive to an extent too. He'd still be happy about him and Pandoria being able to continue to live alongside each other but ough the misery. That one scene where Zeke talks to Amalthus in Indol would hit so different too. Him telling Amalthus he thinks those who kill others are weak and then the realization slowly kicking in. He'd probably be awful at coping with it. Zeke is such a silly goose in canon xbc2 so it feels weird imagining him in any even remotely angsty situations but Idk I kinda vibe with this. Also I'm not a huge fan of PanZeke as a ship usually. They just have such oomftacular bestie vibes to me but I think I like it in this context. PanZeke angsty hurt/comfort. Pandoria comforting messed up vampire-ish Zeke, reassuring him he's not an awful person and also being his source of ether. And also she feels kind of guilty because it's a part of her core that turned Zeke into this so he also comforts her, reassuring her it's not her fault at all and he always makes sure to be extra kind to her bc of how much she does for him and how unbelievably much he cares abt her. [Explodes]

Rex would not be affected. He's not really a Blade Eater in the way the others are. Aegis cores are weird and special. And he's technically kind of dead already so even if they weren't he probably would be unaffected. U cannot convince me that Jin's attack somehow left him barely alive. He's basically a walking corpse and only tethered to the world through that part of Pythra's core and the conduit.

Amalthus would have absolutely 0 issues with being a fucked up vampire/cannibal Blade Eater. Both in terms of morals and getting ether and blood/flesh for sustenance. Tbh he'd probably get a kick out of doing fucked up vampire things even. Indol has a massive amount of core crystals he can sap energy from and nobody will truly notice/care if occasionally a few of the refugees go missing. (And even if people care, they wouldn't really be able to do anything about it. Enough people in positions of power in Indol and in Indol's military force have a cult-like devotion to Amalthus and revere him as some kind of deity. Trying to pose a genuine threat to him would be akin to commiting suicide.)

And last but not least I get to be cringe abt my oc. :3 Normal Blade Eater Amalthus and Silva are, like, two awful guys who hate but tolerate each other because of Circumstances. Silva is such a repressed but very desperate loser type of gay guy that he occasionally has Thoughts but he'd rather die a thousand deaths than actually admit anything to Amalthus or even himself; he just represses it further.

In Blade Eater vampirism AU they are awful guys who hate each other who are soo codependent and toxic. Cannibalism as a metaphor for love, enemies AND lovers, they're tearing each other apart (literally), neither of them has a normal understanding and concept of love, etc. Do u understand.. (I am,, so very Normal about them).

Silva's core was specifically modified to function as his heart since his original one was more than just a little faulty. The technology used to achieve this and research regarding it was lost like almost everything about Judicium upon the devastating attacks on Temperantia during the Aegis war. But anyway despite being a very early Blade Eater experiment - from far before Indol started dabbling in making Blade Eaters - he turned out surprisingly well. The physical link between his organic cells and his core are strong and deteriorate at a much slower rate; the only thing that got really messed up by this was his mind. He's still a fucked up vampire like the other Blade Eaters. He just needs to consume ether and blood/flesh far less frequently. He also has some of the regenerative abilities of blades. He's able to recover faster from wounds than non-blades but not quite as fast as blades and he still grows scar tissue on wounds that are severe enough.

Having a singular guy who's a source of both ether and organic material for sustenance and can regenerate is very convenient for Amalthus and far less suspicious that what he was doing before! Especially because Silva cannot exactly do anything about it. He stumbled his way into becoming Amalthus's blade and acting against him would be awfully unwise (AND being an important asset to Amalthus also grants him easy access to ether and blood when he does need it). Also while Silva is stuck in this situation Amalthus does let him get away with a lot more things than he really should (including but not limited to: verbal and physical threats and letting him bite him as well)

I initially wanted to rant in tags a little bit but it got out of control so...

Actually I think specifically for people who only got to read the main story misunderstanding An and Akito's relationship it's very justified because, unlike with Nene and Tsukasa, who were just kind of doing that dynamic since day 0 (albeit that episode still happend but, yk. Different vibes), there was actual genuine vitriol for a moment between those two.

An is pointedly not a fan of Akito for most of the main story; understandable, because a) he's just an asshole to her straight up and An doesn't know him enough to dig through his Backstory to figure out if he's genuine or not at all b) he took the blame for ruining Vivid's debut, which is like. Bad. This is not something An lets go of easily for a while.

Even privately, An still just kind of... Doesn't consider Akito someone she wants to actually care about, and not until the ending of the main story does she actually understand what kind of person he is. And she's quite sharp-tongued and actually does mean the insults she throws at Akito; this isn't the trait we see her showing often (mostly because later in the story, most if not all the people she has beef with are her seniors, and An is a very respectful person, thank you very much). So their interactions are pretty memorable.

Akito, for his part, feels betrayed more than anything. Because he is ultimately a drama queen of Vivid Street.

The important context for this interaction is that Akito actually was just going to invite An to join his own team. And it's such a blink and you miss it moment that I feel like people completely forgot this fact, and it makes Akito going out of his way to hurt An way more hilarious. Jealous much?

But yeah, I think Nene and Tsukasa are just kind of... More played-up even in the main story, even the argument episode aside. Misinterpretation of their relationship is just no media literacy, they mostly show no real malice to each other. An and Akito though? For like 5 episodes they're just going at each other's throats as much as the PG rating allows them. Yeah, I can see why someone would think they're genuinely like this if they haven't read VBS events.

That aside you are absolutely right. Of course Akito & An like and care about each other. Look at these bugs.

I like the jokes abt wlw/mlm hostility wrt akito & an (as well as nene & tsukasa altho it’s more on nene’s side) but i think that some people assume it’s a genuine belief some people hold that they hate each other instead of a “sometimes with some of ur friends u show affection by taking shots at each other bc it’s funny.” like they’re friends but if akito or an tripped down the stairs they would make sure the other is ok and then laugh at them before helping them up. This one requires, well, a lot more context: On the Happy Heroes Discord, I made a headcanon stating that, “Adelian shades (the kind that can be detached from the body) can stick to any Adelian, even if it doesn't belong to the [wearer], but ONLY Adelians (in other words, they can be used to identify peeps who are and aren't Adelians). For example, if Kalo were to give a pair of shades to, let's say Archie, it would stay on his face, but if he gave them to Careful S, they would fall off (he has to hold them in place).” Then @themunflower​ added on, “Shade swiping is probably a common prank among Adelian kids...One kid has a bunch of shades layered on his face like a sandwich.” I found it too funny not to make a doodle of.

These four characters have been the only characters to actually sing, like, properly, in the whole series/have the most ties to music. And because there were four of them, they could form...a barbershop quartet!

Barbershop quartet actually managed to last, like, several months, which is really impressive! However, they did get erased eventually, and I opted to draw them again but color-coded and smaller.

My first time drawing Russel and Stu! However, I drew it in such a way that, if I wanted everyone to be proportional, Stu had to be cut-off at the top TvT. Meanwhile, Ka Pei and Bella continue to feud in the background.

I mean, how else was she supposed to come back?

Similar to barbershop quartet, I noticed something all four of these dudes have:  someone they cared about and, in the climax, had an emotional beat with them; Finch had Lisa, Starshadow had Moondance, Dark Demon had Happy S, and Luthor had Doctor H. Thus, I put them in a club thing where they sort of just hang out, and they recently invited Luthor. I’d imagine Huo Ha Ha sometimes joins them for some afternoon tea. YES I KNOW THE CHAIRS ARE ABSOLUTELY AWFUL-

Man, I don't know where to start with this character. I don't know if it's because I'm still grieving the breakup, but I paid a little more attention to her. I know my rambles of this OC will be all over the place, and it's not a proper OC introduction...But please bear with me, I'm still new to taking this OC thing seriously lol.

If I can describe Antera with one phrase, it'd be "peace was never an option". XD

She's impatient, hella petty, prideful, and definitely thinks violence is always answer. Resentment and sheer spite fuels her. More importantly; she absolutely despises being restrained. Kinda like all the times I suppressed my anger in all the times my ex has ignored me for some time, and the resentment just builds up to where I get angry at him about that in other unrelated arguments. However, she is great at standing up for herself and calling out bullshit.

In the post about Eufrene, I mentioned that during the break up my ex said, "you're an angel, and I'm the devil. Leave me alone so the fires will engulf me".

....That's adorable, but I disagree.

Designing Antera was a challenge with trying to achieve scary and edgy vibes. I really took risks and stepped out of my comfort zone with her. Designing Eufrene was kinda easy since I usually draw cute things, so getting that cute-creepy look came natural to me. However, she could go through some design changes too.

I've been sketching designs of Antera since last April; and in the early stages, I visualized her as this demon goth princess that gives off spoiled brat vibes. But when I drew that, it had the same cute-creepy energy that Eufrene has (that's why I gave her a thorn crown and these sheer, lacey sleeves and skirt to show at least a touch of that).

And I wanted this character to be cursed and scary. Being abandoned by my ex was a scary experience for me, so I want my vent OC that represents heart break to portray that.

I also experimented with military lolita styles. That was kinda fun, but it didn't seem right.

Until I read something about anger that really resonated with me. I don't know where I read this; whether if this was someone on Reddit or in an article, but someone wrote that anger protects us, and it's what guards us from suicide.

So, I designed her to be tall with a strong build (drawing muscles is way harder than it looks! >0<). She's a cyborg demon. At one point, I wanted to design her with armor, but I didn't want her design to be too complicated. However, I did leave the demon wing-like shoulder armor on.

The hardest things about character design for me is:

Trying to avoid making the OC it look like someone else's OC or an established character. Combining your favorite aesthetics and inspirations combats this. The more you combine, the better, but the fear of being a copycat is always there. ^^; Trying to balance the design between the extremes of simple and complicated. I don't wanna make the design so simple that it looks basic, and I don't wanna make the design so complicated that it's difficult to draw over and over again, or to the point where it looks tacky and cluttered. To be honest, I think Antera's design is a tiny bit too much. But I'm still thinking whether to simplify it or keep it.

For the cyborg part, I may or may not re-design the metal arms. Still trying to figure out how to design that type of stuff.

Now about her face....bruh, I tried so hard to design something that is really terrifying. Drawing her expressions will be interesting.

I'd like to thing she used to have a normal face until the mentally scarring shit I've gone through has affected her physically.

When I cry, I feel this burning sensation in my face and eyes before the tears fall, so I decided to exaggerate that on her face. Like the negative emotions I experience from being abandoned is depicted as the mechanical parts on the layer beneath her face overheating so much, it distorts, melts, and burns parts of her face and eyes. Which also explains why she doesn't have any lips, nose, eyebrows or eyelashes. Nor the lower part of her face that reveals her metallic mandible. Drawing burn marks and scars on her face was also something new to me.

Other aesthetics include the usual weirdcore stuff like the eyes. I even got inspiration from the human body's circulatory system with the design around the eye on her chest that connects to her shoulder armor. And of course, I included broken hearts, heartbeat waves (could also be interpreted as sound waves too since she loves listening to music) into her design and tear-shaped red jewels as a symbol of pain.

...The edge is so real with this one lol.

Oh, and the name Antera is derived from Anteros, the Greek god of requited love, and the avenger of unrequited love.

bayo 3 spoilers under cut

Holy FUCK the story for this game was absolutely god awful. The premise itself was fine at the start, someone wants to erase the multiverse and recreate it in their image by collapsing every universe into each other thats fine and everything. Bayonetta being a universal constant also makes sense given that in the world of chaos she is the visual representation of ultimate power. Viola being as relevant as she is does not make any sense. But then they start talking about this arch-eve bullshit which makes actually no sense whatsoever it wasn't mentioned at all in any of the lore preceding. Luka being arch adam is even worse. He's just a guy. More importantly he's just a guy that happened to meet bayonetta because his father was a journalist that was researching the witch hunts and he thought she killed him. There was never any deeper connection than that. And now suddenly not only is this dude a universal constant as well, but he's incredibly powerful and has magical abilities? So much so that he is a challenge for bayonetta to fight? Even if they wanted to introduce this idea in this game there was zero (0) build up for it and they didn't even make it make sense in context of the whole adam and eve thing? Jeanne was the original arch-eve in the egypt universe?? It felt like an uncomfortable unwanted and uneccessary sub plot that ended up being the whole plot for the sake of justifying killing bayonetta off and having viola be the new bitch and she isn't even likable. She has some cute and funny moments here and there but she's so fucking aggro for no reason neither of her parents are like that. Even more uncomfortable is this whole narrative of bayonetta and luka always being together in every universe when we literally only see the luka that our bayo knows. And the ending was the fucking worst if they had just put end scene after bayo and luka got dragged to hell and everyone was just dead I would have been happier than forcing me to sit through playing as viola when shes fucking terrible to play as too only for bayo to say that she's called bayonetta now. And that end scene "to be continued in another generation"? I think the fuck not I didn't want to say it during this but the forcing hetero bullshit onto every universe this bisexual character is in killed this franchise for me the way they have told this story makes it so that aspect of her character is completely irrelevant (it doesn't matter if she is canonized bisexual or not) because every other possible situation including the very strong bayojeanne vibes from the egyptian bayo world inherently goes against the canon that they have established in this game that arch-adam luka and arch-eve bayo are always in love with each other what trash what utter fucking garbage to take away from the VERY CORE ASPECT OF THE STORY TELLING OF A MULTIVERSE to say that there are all these different possiblities but these two characters will always be in love like NO! and all that doesn't even broach the topic of how the hell did bayo just suddenly know how to use an ancient technique that Rodin said was lost to time likely to never be seen again and sis just picked it up in 2 seconds? Both the previous games had periods of time where bayo was either remembering her abilities or gained them from outside sources but this one can just do the thing after frowning and then smirking at the giant demon she lost control of. The whole ripping her own heart out thing made it even worse not that specificallty but the fact that she knew how to do that at all this would have been such a fucking good game if the story wasn't written like god damn dog shit

OMG THANKS FOR REPLYING/pos!! Have I said that I absolutely adore your takes? Yes, I'll say it again.

To be perfectly fair, HoMW is way better than CITA in terms of "untying" plots and situations! Don't let CITA scare you, HoMW may differ in a vibe and I still prefer HMC to literally anything in its cozy fantasy genre, but you might give it a try!

CITA, on the other hand... it's not BAD, but it definitely looks like it needs a bad of editing. I liked Abdullah, Jamal and plotline with cats and genies, and also the solider to (I have to thank it for giving Justin some screentime/"development"), but anything else is messy. I don't really like the idea of finale being "everyone getting married" storyline, because literally EVERYONE, including the main villain of the book, got someone to marry. Marriage is not a bad plot, it works sometimes (it absolutely worked with Howl and Sophie, as well as them having a kid (although I think it's a bit too soon but well it was their decision), but that's because it suits their character and the way they learned to communicate with each other in their own way building a family they both wanted in their hair-raising happily ever after), but marriage is not a solution for everyone.

What I mean, is, the book keeps showing all this absolutely incredible characters, and then just marry them into oblivion. For example, Justin's ""wife", princess Beatrice, absolutely kills all the lines she has. Fist of all, she refuses to marry Justin the same he absolutely refuses to marry him, tells the solider "Prince Justin" can go to hell instead of marrying her (even though it was in context of marrying the soldier with was a bit weird too, but well-). She wears pants in Ingarian medieval society and probably knows how to ride a horse, also stated to be completely independent ruler on her own.

And then she just. Marries Justin and gets one brief mention in the next book. This looks like such a waste of a character, honestly, literally every other word about her shows her as a person who would rather die than marry and man only to fall for the guy she knew for about ten minutes and agreed to hate a page ago.

All for the joke of "they didn't want to marry and married accidentally anyway" wich may be interesting If they were given some prior backstory, but as it is it just again leads to nowhere. I cannot believe in it even If I want to believe in it.

Like, CITA would be so much better If DWJ haven't decided that marrying everyone is the only good solution to marry them with each other. For exception of Abdullah and Flower, probably, they're the best written couple out there (although not even close to the way Sophie and Howl were written)

Quick question because I don't remember castle in the sky: is it specified that Lettie gave birth to the kid? Or it could be very well some crazy kinda plot in which this random kid appears in the lives of the three (justiman and Lettie) and now they have to navigate raising a kid while defeating all society expectancies of non biological child/Lettie and Ben are not really together/Justin and Ben are so gay/Lettie wants to be an independent witch/ what the hell is going on? Because god I'd read a magic comedy with this plot I love people who are not on love and who were not supposed to be devoting parents suddenly having to raise a child without getting together in the end (+ Justin of course the poor boy)

Unfortunately, it was specified, even a bit too much to describe, that Lettie gave birth to a child. In fact, when we first see her and Ben in chapter fifteen, she's pregnant. Wich actually a bit concerning because CITA happened exactly one year after the first book (as Morgan, Howl and Sophie's son, is born somewhere in the middle of CITA and he's known to be two in HoMW, time difference between wich and HMC is stated to be three years) and Lettie was seventeen in HMC as she's stated to be one year younger that Sophie who is most likely eighteen there. And that is... not the best math possible, actually.

(also that's probably my personal preference but this scene is so "not it" to be lmao, like that's probably because of the smallest amount of development their pairing had, but it's just feels unrealistic or staged for unknown reason, for me at least)

This moment is stated in the end of the book and is just...there. The only fun joke it leads to is Sophie saying "she knew she was bound to be an aunt" wich is, she is.

(Although with Martha wanting ten kinds and Neil and Mari being technically a part of her family it's strangely hilarious she thought she WASN'T bound to be an aunt?)

The child doesn't even have a name, just being called "a girl with no ill effects at all" and, unlike Morgan, born about the same time, doesn't have any other mentions in the series, at all. The reason for her existence is a mystery for me. There's no plot/practical reason except for "they had a child, cool!"/nonneg

This is something really DWJ-like in this absolutely random group of people having to raise a child no one planned would exist. And probably the only way I'd imagine Lettie being a mother or a wife (I should make a separate post about Lettie honestly I love her so much). She didn't want to be there, but that's what happens when you randomly decided to marry a Royal Wizard for a "why not' reason.

And, according to Ukrainian translation of HMC that described Ben and Justin as "inseparable" (in original it just said "great buddies" wich is also funny but not that much😔) you kinda you get Justin complete with Ben. Just like Sophie and Howl, two-in-one exclusive offer!

As I said that's all Hatter sisters do — defeating social expectations.

Also this lines up with my little concept of Justing running from married life (yes he got married in CITA. Don't ask me how, that was... rather odd, especially because he run from the same marriage canonically a couple of weeks before it happened) and just having to stay with Ben because the Kind would have just destroyed him If he'd returned to the palace. And so they have to just... live together even though Lettie is not the part of the club, she just wants to learn witchcraft in peace.

And now there's a child absolutely announced. And no one can explain how. Or why.

favorite thing about them: There's SO much to her, god I love the nuance I love the kind of character that she is of like a smartass weird girl seer archetype with a sprinkle of girlboss my absolute beloved LMAO On a serious note her whole vibe in 999 (once you know what's really happening at least) just hits me, she's going through so much just to be able to live, and like it takes strength to stand up for your younger self like that and see so clearly that it wasn't a personal failing that landed you on that situation, like she could easily think she was the dumb one to go back for the doll (and people certainly make that point often) and let that weight so much on her conscience that she'd be too paralyzed to even create the possibility for herself to survive, but she didn't, because that's simply not the kind of person that she is, and I think that's cool

My personal ranking for the Eurovision Grand Final:

Belgium: it's my favorite song. They definitely got fucked over by the sun's LED display not working, so the stage show is missing some of the imagery I think they wanted, but it's still absolute quality and one of the most technically difficult songs to sing. I'm hoping for a good jury result, but not much else :/

France: folktronica is one of those genres you basically only get at Eurovision and I love it. It's fun. It's culturally relevant. The stage show has a lot to look at. I adore this.

Spain: that choriography! And she's singing full out nearly the whole time!

Lithuania: love the vibes. Some songs get an audience singing and clapping. This one makes you sit down and shut up because you are too mesmerized to do anything else. Not many people talk about this one, but I think they should.

Serbia: if you saw the semifinal performance, you hear how thunderous the clapping was during the chorus. If this doesn't finish top 10, there will be riots.

Australia: pitch perfect vocal. Beautiful song. Beautiful message. Beautiful man in a beautiful dress. *chef's kiss*

Norway: it's fun, it's stupid, and I love it

Greece: beautiful song. I don't get the melting chairs but honestly, whatever.

Portugal: those harmonies tho.

Netherlands: not a lot to see in the stage show, but it's a very pretty song

Poland: his voice is great. The staging is a bit dark, but I like it anyway.

Czechia: fun song. Fun performance. She fixed up those vocals that had been off in the prepaties, and I'm happy to see this song in the final

Romania: it's fun. It's dancy. I like it.

UK: sorry to my one british mutual who is over the moon about this song. I'm not big on songs that are all falsetto like this. Gimme the range. This is comparatively low for personal taste reasons, but it is a good song and I do sing along when it is on.

Moldova: the song isn't amazing but they are having so much fun and I'm happy they qualified.

Estonia: not my genre but it's well done

Ukraine: still very uncomfortable about the two guys with the fake dreads. The song is catchy and well composed, but I just don't love it, and there are a lot of songs here that I do love. I expect them to finish on the left hand side, but this is where they are for me just evaluation the song and not the political context.

Sweden: nice enough, but I don't love her voice or the staging particularly. 0 idea why this is in the favorites to win, but here we are I guess.

Iceland: lovely and melo, but I do admit that I forget about it sometimes.

Azerbaijan: the staging elevates it a lot even if that first part gives me a knee-jerk "why would you lay down on the bleachers" reaction lol. I wouldn't have put them in the final, but they're here.

Armenia: this must be spectacularly boring to watch live, but the song is kinda cute.

Italy: those high notes just sound like so much work, and aparently the dress rehearsals have been a mess.

Germany: it's just a bit boring.

Finland: still find them annoying, but at least they are having fun.

Switzerland: do I even have to expain this one?

Can I ask what you hate about prospero? I did watch the tempest once, but I paid absolutely 0 attention to the man

i haven’t read the tempest in about a year so i’m a little rusty but in general i just find him SUPER manipulative and his vibes are fucking RANCID like... okay, even putting the “has two slaves” thing aside (which. i mean. that should be thing #1; he keeps ariel trapped against his will and say what you will about caliban* but i don’t think he deserves to be prospero’s servant day in and day out or prospero will magically hurt him) --

even putting that aside, the way he talks to the people around him is just... so... slimy... like... in the first scene with miranda he repeatedly accuses her of not listening to him to the point where she has to reassure him that she is, and there’s a point where she says something about how she must have been such a burden to him as a child, and i know you can play shakespeare pretty much however you want but the vibe i get at least from reading it is that he’s very... guilt trippy... manipulative... especially because then in the next scene when ariel asks for his freedom prospero is immediately like “well when i GOT here you were stuck in a tree. do you want to be stuck in a tree again?? are you ungrateful that i got you out of the TREE??” to the point where ariel actually ends up thanking him instead of asking for the freedom he was promised. like bitch!!! shut up!!! “i want to be free” does not equate to “fuck you for getting me out of that tree” and if you can recognize that captivity was awful for ariel why would you keep him captive again...

and then the whole miranda/ferdinand romance has prospero basically behind the scenes playing puppeteer as does. pretty much everything that happens on the island. and idk it all just feels so fucking SINISTER like... he crashes this boat. he strands these people on his island. he very much holds their lives in his hands. at the end iirc he and his brother reunite or whatever but like... what choice does the brother have ANYWAY? prospero only makes himself known to everyone when he’s already made it VERY clear that he’s calling the shots here (fuck, alonso thinks his son is FULLY dead; he’s so grateful to have ferdinand back that he probably would have agreed to anything) and so of course they’re going to take him back to milan and of course they’re going to make him duke again because what else are they going to do?? die on this island?? and of course ariel goes free at the end but ariel doesn’t stick around for miranda or caliban, both of whom stay under prospero’s thumb. so he basically has everybody else in his control with or without magic and it’s just so... hghwbwbbwfbw he’s so fucking slimy and the tempest’s ending is a horror movie send tweet

that said i DO think prospero is a wonderfully written and fascinating CHARACTER especially in the larger context of shakespeare’s life/career and the tempest being one of his last plays and prospero’s epilogue and etc etc i think he’s a great character! i just think i would fistfight him in a dark alley, also,

(*it may be apparent that i have a thousand and one disorganized thoughts about caliban. maybe i’ll make that post someday. distilled into the shortest form possible: i think everyone in the play treats him terribly and while he might be shitty his shittiness also gets more and more questionable the further you dig and i think his treatment is especially bad when you think about the ways he’s been interpreted as a racial allegory - oh no this isn’t short. fuck)
