amanda's comment in journey to babel 'i'm afraid you couldn't pronounce the vulcan name' would annoy jim SO much, he'd find out the correct pronunciation of spock's full name and practice until he got it right and one day they'd be playing chess in comfortable silence when jim out of nowhere slowly says "s'chn t'gai spock" and spock's hand just freezes mid move

I love mixing ashke and non-ashke spelling and pronunciation. It's the best of both worlds because I love saying shabbos but sukkot has too good of a mouthfeel to not use

Fake Peppino Speech Headcanons (that nobody asked for):
Hc that Fake Peppino thinks "forwards", Pizzahead just messed up their brain to mouth connection during creation so they speak backwards:
Tumblr media
(I find the ciphers some peeps use for Fake's speech very cool, one that comes to mind being atbash [where in a way he's speaking backwards, just alphabetically]. Personally tho I can't really see anyone naturally speaking in ciphers unless it's like Stanford Pines lmao)
Since only their speaking is backwards, they can reverse their speech forwards w/ effort or assistance:
Tumblr media
(Their tone still goes forwards! Hence why they can still get across that they're questioning something even though the words itself are backwards)
Not all "assistance" is helpful, however:
Tumblr media
(Did I really commit to a whole ass headcanon just for the sake of this dumb joke? Of course I did who do you take me for)

Achi adorably trying to speak chinese on the filming set of Meet You At The Blossom
*Achi Sukonlaphat (plays prince Shaoyu) is from Thailand and he was speaking his lines in thai, maybe that's why many people find the chinese dubbing on him unfitting

This isn't asking whether you say it as two syllables or three, or any other details, just whether the middle of the word is a "sh" sound or a "ss" sound.

niche hc but when Neil is having a Learn Every Language In The World day, he’s just being annoying with Andrew and going through every European language and stopping to google a few phrases before moving on. Eventually he gets to Ireland and Kevin’s not really paying any attention to him until Neil says a word like ‘thank you’ or ‘goodbye’ and he freezes up in the corner of the room.
Andrew notices straight away obviously and stops Neil but then Kevin just starts to cry.
When Kevin’s mother was alive she would call him pet names in Irish, and use some Irish words sporadically here and there when she was speaking, like most Irish people do, and he hasn’t heard anyone speaking Irish since she passed away. Thank you is one of those phrases that a lot of Irish people use day to day just to keep the language alive, and it was always one of those things she made him say as a younger kid to help her feel close to home.
Nobody really knows what to do, and he’s not sure whether he’s happy or sad or both or neither, but just hearing the language out loud causes such a visceral reaction for him that he can’t help it. It’s the first time in a while he’s caught himself thinking, I miss my mom.

Maybe it’s a silly thing to get annoyed about but the way so many Irish names get anglicised because people just. ignore the fadas? Brian (br-eye-an) and Brían (bree-an) are not pronounced the same. Rónán Hession? Yeah that’s not Ro-nan Hess-ee-un. Ro-nawn Hesh-shn. Ciarán and Ciaran are similarly slightly different (kier-rawn vs kier-ran).
And that’s not even touching on people just dropping the fadas for no reason. Sean is not pronounced the same as Seán (or Séan for that matter). Sinead, Roisin, Aine, Blaithin, Oisin, Brid, Grainne, Meabh, Caolan, Cuan Orla, Una, Donal, Rian, Ruairi - they’re not Irish names. They are, to a very slight degree, anglicised. I know that some electronic systems don’t allow for accents on letters but why? Many, many languages use accents and those names are also incorrect without them. Mihăilescu and Mihailescu are not pronounced the same. Skłodowska and Sklowdowska are not the same. The letters are not the same. An accent isn’t just a pretty addition to a letter - in most languages it is an entirely separate letter. Electronic systems should be set up to recognise these variances. Also apostrophes in names. Those too. They exist for a reason.
(Also the ways Irish names are pronounced differently in England just because. Hession. McMahon. Moran. It’s not that I’m blaming Irish people who emigrate or English people as such, it’s just so…jarring? When people say the names differently like that.)
