Aro Week Patch Giveaway - Aro-Ace
To celebrate Aro Week, I’m doing a week of patch giveaways. The aro-ace patch features @aroaesflags’s blue/yellow design with a bright orange border.
These are all handsewn pieces. They will have the small imperfections that come from being hand-embroidered. They’re also made using using a mix of Sullivans colourfast thread and thread from eBay that I will not promise is colourfast. I have also used a little clear nail polish in their construction (hidden underneath the embroidered edge).
Colours may not precisely match the flag colours (colour-matching thread to a backlit screen is difficult and/or I don’t have a better match in my thread stash). Since I like to play with different stripe and border combinations, every patch will feature a one of a kind, never exactly-repeated colourway.
Patches will come with a length of thread matching the embroidered edge for sewing onto your bags, coats or hats. I’ll be posting a tutorial about how to do this on my Patreon and WordPress site in the next few weeks.
These patches have been made by someone in a pet-free household who doesn’t wear artificial fragrances or perfumes but does wear deodorants and use shampoos containing essential oils.
I will ship these (sealed in a plastic zipseal bag) with a card in a standard letter envelope to any postal address accessible to me through Australia Post. (In other words, global with a few odd exceptions.) The giveaway ends at 12 PM AEDT (Australian Eastern Daylight Savings Time) March 2.
To enter, you need to do the following:
Follow me at @aroworlds or @alloaroworlds
Be an aromantic of the identity listed in the header or entering on behalf of someone who is
Have your ask box or DMs open
Be an adult or have an adult’s permission to give your mailing address to an adult online
Reply to this post with the word “aro-ace” somewhere in said reply. Reblogs, while awesome, will not count as entries.
(I’m autistic. I can’t always tell the difference between “reblogging to signal boost” and “reblogging to enter” responses. So all reblogs will be accounted as signal-boosts and replies accounted as entries. I apologise to anyone who’d prefer to enter under the anonymity of a sideblog, but I need to make this as uncomplicated as possible.)
If you’d like to support me in future aro-community pride craft giveaways, I do have a Patreon (Aro Worlds, link in description box), where I’ll be running a subscriber-only giveaway for a dragon patch in the pride colours of your choice.
Good luck and thanks for reading!

[image description: five cross-stitched patches sitting on a red watermelon slice pillow. From top to bottom, left to right, the patches are: the letter A in aro stripes against an autistic flag background with green edging; a medieval dragon with a green body and black/grey/white crest on an orange background with orange-red edging; the letter A in aro stripes on a yellow background with gold edging; a yellow and gold flower on an aro flag background with variegated yellow/gold edging; and a rectangular zigzag patch with olive edging.]
Aro Pride Patch Collection: Aromantic
I was given a new cross stitch book and I found a pattern that I could adapt in an older one, so I’d been experimenting with new designs. Because Aro Week was coming up, I figured I should do said experimenting in aro pride colours.
(My quest is to find a plain jacket to which I can sew all my newest patches, therefore becoming the walking embodiment of the aromantic flag.)
Autistic Aro: I wanted to see how boldly the outlining on lettering would stand out against a flag background also having a white stripe, so this was a quick experimental patch. White lettering on white text stands out with a bright border, but black lettering on black text will need a light border. Which, in hindsight, is pretty obvious!
Here Be Dragons Aro: This design is by Felicity Price (from the book Needlepoint 1/12 Scale: Design Collections for the Dolls’ House). I was testing out a more muted take on the greens in the aro flag. I don’t want these colours for my “main” aro patches, but I do think the greens are pretty against the orange background--and I love this pattern.
A Is For Aro: I was playing with the letter patterns by Jo Verso (from the book Cross Stitch Cards & Keepsakes). The pattern calls for back stitch elements to complement a block of cross stitch, which doesn’t stand out enough from the background when using white. I want to remake this using lines of cross stitch instead of back stitch, because I’d like to do a series of pride patches with my identities that start with A (autistic, arovague, abrosexual, aromantic, allo-aro).
(I have several different alphabet patterns, so I could do an alphabet of aro pride patches for next year.)
Floral Aro: The flower pattern is also by Jo Verso (same book). I like the idea of a simple flower pattern with a flag background, but this one isn’t very readable as a flower. (The camera is kind; it looks more like a yellow blob in real life.) I want to try this again with more contrasting colours or a different pattern.
(Also, I am so fond of that edging colour--DMC 90.)
Zigzag Aro: I’m working on a tutorial for my zigzag patches, so I thought I’d show what the zigzags look like with a one-row-per-stripe repeating pattern.

[image description: a rectangular piece of white aida cloth sitting on a blue microfibre blanket. An arrow image, against a rectangular background of very pale green, has been stitched onto the cloth. The arrow has a large grey triangular point, a gold-brown shaft and fletching stitched in the dark green, light green, white, grey and black stripes of the aro pride flag. Two smaller flags have been stitched down the arrow’s shaft.]
Aro Patch - Aro Arrow, 2.0
This is a work in progress: I need to widen the light green background, trim the aida and add a border. But I wanted to end Aro Week with an aro arrow patch, even if I ran out of time!
(I have to figure out an arrow aro patch. It’s an occupational requirement of being aromantic, right?)
This is a long patch: trimmed, it will be somewhere around 14 x 4.5 cm. Definitely meant for across the back of a jacket or along the side/top flap of a satchel, and the arrow still looks a bit stubby! To get a more-realistic looking arrow (as opposed to a stylised or cartoony arrow) with better proportions of arrowhead to shaft and fletching, I think I need to make the patch even longer. I’d also like to add colour variations to the arrow’s shaft and head to help with the realism: that flat gold-brown is a bit, well, flat.
I prefer, too, using narrower strips of flag banding around the arrow’s shaft. But this arrow looks a lot better than my previous attempt, and I like the effect of the fletching stitched in horizontal stripes. So while there will be at least a third rework of this design, I feel like I will get there!

Aro Week Patch Giveaway - Cupioromantic
To celebrate Aro Week, I’m doing a week of patch giveaways. The cupioromantic patch features the common grey, purple, white and pink flag with a mint border.
(The cupioromantic patch is less neat than most of my giveaway patches. The edging colour is one of my favourite mint shades, but it would not lay neatly.)
Colours may not precisely match the flag colours (colour-matching thread to a backlit screen is difficult and/or I don’t have a better match in my thread stash). Since I like to play with different stripe and border combinations, every patch will feature a one of a kind, never exactly-repeated colourway.

[image description: two small spiral-bound jotter pads sitting on a blue microfibre blanket. The left-hand pad is covered with plain washi tape in the grey/green/white/pink stripes of the idemromantic flag, overlaid with scrapbooking elements of pink flowers, green leaves, pink and aqua buttons and a small card reading “you got this”. The right-hand pad is covered with printed washi tape in the dark green/light green/white/grey/black stripes of the aromantic flag, overlaid with scrapbooking elements of an arrow-shaped pine tree, green leaves, a brown arrow and two text blocks reading “shine on” and “awesome”.]
I found a collection of small jotter pads at K-Mart (75 cents for two). As I always have one on my desk for shopping lists and reminder notes, I thought I’d recover these in washi-tape pride stripes to match my pride journal from last year--in aromantic and (because there isn’t enough pride art) idemromantic colours!
Adding the scrapbooking elements (I believe they’re all by Kaisercraft) over the top of the stripes helps make these pride designs a little more subtle--although I do dislike the strip of purple, from the original cover underneath, showing at the top of the idemromantic one.
I do adore the pine tree motif--it’s green and it’s an arrow!
