ok so this is an extremely silly one but i recently was reminded of a song that i had not thought about at all in any way in at least ten years but definitely listened to trillions of times as a preteen. and listening to it for the first time in that long gave me such a visceral body reaction i almost screamed. because it so perfectly encapsulates how it feels to be an edgy 10yo in 2010 (which i obviously was). and that song was kill everybody by skrillex

Theory time, because I'm bored.

I know for certain that there was something evil in the Creel's house. As I rewatched episode 4 and listened to what Victor was saying, it's even more obvious to me. It wasn't all Henry.

Henry and Victor could have different versions of the past. But it differs too much and I doubt that any of them were lying. I also don't buy the theory that Victor was completely blind to what kind of child Henry was. Victor was his father after all. He knew his child for 11 years, he would have noticed if Henry had had any psychopath tendencies.

But Henry, he was a sensitive child and I could see he felt something was wrong.

We had one month of peace in that house.

One month in which a demon could posses a child by convincing him he had powers to change the world. I saw enough horror movies about demons and exorcism to know (believe me I'm an expert xd) that demons can take the form of anything, only if it helps them convince a poor soul to let them in.

I could sense this demon always closed. I became convinced it was hiding, nesting, somewhere withing the shadows of our home. (Victor only sensed that demon in the house they'd moved in, if this was all Henry all along, Victor would sense something much earlier, right?)

It had cursed our town. It had cursed our home. It had cursed us. (so, what did he mean by that? How Hawkins was cursed? As far as we know, Henry wasn't spreading havoc yet, just killing animals, but clearly there was something else happening in the town that Victor knew about)

Let's look at the evidence...

When Victor entered the attic (for the first time I believe, and let's be honest, the attic is important, it's where Victor felt the evil presence, it's where the clock in the UD was ticking, and it's where Vecna was hiding), he saw a lot of stuff that couldn't belong to his family.

Did the Creel family lived in Chicago before they moved to Hawkins? We don't know, but we also didn't see anyone from this family being interested in playing organs. And this instrument looks old and dusty, like it's being unused for a long time.

But you know what brought my attention? The graphic itself. Chicago Cottage Co New improved organ book. It looks like from the 20's, 30's maybe? Not really from the 50's. I couldn't find the same on internet, so it's more than likely a fake, made only for ST.

But I found a similar looking book.

Next are these:

Wicker strollers were popular in 1910-1920. Not that much in the 30's and definitely not during the late 40's. And Henry was born in 1947. This dress also looks too old for Virginia to wear.

The most confusing item on the attic:

Who did it belong to?!

Aaaand finally the freaking widow.

It wasn't from the same time when Henry liked sitting at the attic, drawing spiders. We don't know if it was after or before Henry found the nest. But a widow symbolizes something here, something more than Henry.

And the last thing is something else that Victor said:

All evil must have a home.

Evil had its home in the nest in the house. Then it found a new home in Henry.

ARC-V Month Day 31: Surpriiise!

Oh, you thought day 30 had my full final message? Nope! There's still one thing left to say.

Ladies and gentlemen... I would like to personally thank every single one of you for making this event possible in the first place. I never expected the idea of an ARC-V Month to actually gain traction, and yet here we are, a group of creators all coming together to celebrate this one show we really like. I even spotted a few new faces that joined tumblr just to contribute, and I can't tell you how great it feels to have invited a few more fans to a new part of the community with which they can share their creations.

To those new users, I hope you stick around for a while longer, and have fun on this side of the ARC-V fandom. To everyone who submitted posts, no matter how little or late, thank you so much for taking the jump and joining us this year. And finally, to those who couldn't participate yet still supported the event, I'm extremely grateful to you as well!

This month has been a ride for a good few of us, and I think the best part of it is how it touches upon the same message as the show: communicating with others, finding joy in what you do, and never failing to just be yourself. Once again, thank you so, so much to everyone who participated in any way! As is the custom, all of you deserve a particularly special cookie to mark the occasion!

Oh, another thing: we'll still be taking submissions until the end of August, and prompt suggestions are open indefinitely, for whenever we can start up another ARC-V Month.

From my private planning Discord, a snippet list of characters from me and my partner's story of fae, circle of life deities, and everything in between: "Embroidered Tercet" [My side being more of a spinoff buuut, meaty nonetheless!]

Dionaea (Or Ona, for short) [She/Her]: The eldest both of all the siblings and of the two girls born. Despite the carnivorous plant she was named after, she lives the most "normally" out of the family, interacting mainly with the upper class out of interest in learning more about politics and the economy- in terms of war especially. She carries an air of grace and independence after having been the one to raise her siblings once her parents had passed. Not that she holds resentment either- she loves her siblings more than anything (at the moment), but the way of the Death nation's idea of freedom carried into her own ideals.

Dove [She/Her]: Second oldest, born with the condition to physically be unable to feel fear nor anger. Heavily neutral, after having been sidelined and looked past compared to the interests of her other siblings. She lives closer to the heart of the Rebirth nation with her assistant, Pigeon, once her condition halted her grieving process for her parents completely.

Saturday [He/Him]: The second youngest, he takes a deep interest in death and dying, and the various practices and psychology that accompany it. The umbrella he totes everywhere was a gift from their father before both parents had left for the war- its heavy shade helps his sensitive skin from harsh outdoor light. The umbrella itself is a deep purplish black, with each section adorned with a stylized evil eye.

Coprinus [They/He]: The youngest of the siblings, currently in a state of comatose due to his abnormalities. It was uncertain how they ended up with likenesses similar to an inky cap mushroom, but their body is currently perfectly sustained in a glass terrarium-like box within Saturday's home. Very rarely does he awaken from this comatose state, only on the rainiest autumn-like days. Even when he's awake, he stares wistfully off out the windows of the house, as if he were still in a dreamlike state. Saturday occasionally finds these waking days a nuisance, since Copri tends to drip some sort of inky black substance all over the floors from his hair and eyes.

In order of age currently: Ona - Late 20s, 30 even Dove - Mid 20s Saturday - Mid 20s, just a year or 2 younger than Dove Copri - Early 20s, 21 even

i knew we'd be able to meet one day but never expected the opportunity to come up so soon!! having you (kind of spontaneously) visit from 15,558 km away is definitely a once in a lifetime event and a big part of what made 2022 so special 🤩 and ofc it's been quite the experience watching you go from a Good Girl to wanting to try new things!! like piercings and crop tops and maybe doing a slutty walk through the financial district HAHAH

the days when we used to talk for like 9 hours in a row (when i was unemployed) were way too much fun, but even now with jobs and timezones and everything, we still manage to be delusional so we're doing great :') and yeah i totally agree, it's nice to have a friend from a diff timezone so we can have each other for company even during odd hours like those 7:30s on the train or the 2ams.

I have never seen someone whose natural sleep cycle also starts at 6. It's always like "this person with a sleep disorder gets tired at 3 or 4 am". I had a year between graduating and getting my first job and in that year I consistently slept at 5-6am and woke up around 1-2. No alarm, no nothing.

But of course society, life, stress, etc, so in reality: avoid caffeine too late in the day, take a melatonin around the same time every day, put on my sleep headset, put on the white noise, put on the eye mask. If i want to be up at 5:30, I have various alarms going off starting 4:30, because after experimenting, it consistently takes me 45mins to an hour to wake up starting from the first alarm. This is including days where I really can't miss that important thing, so I set additional alarms on my laptop so I have to physically leave the bed... and then I go back to sleep.

The things that do help is I have smart lights and I use them as alarms, and while phone calls alone don't wake me properly because I can answer and go back to sleep, having a conversation does wake me. If it's a nap cause I'm tired but I got stuff to do, I drink water first so the need to pee gets me out of bed.

When the sun goes down I'm kind of grumpy because I'm tired from the day, although I adore sunsets, but about 1-2 hours later my mood significantly improves, my brain comes online, aaaand I have maybe an hour where that's useful before I have to take the melatonin so I can force-sleep.

I would have been great at guarding the village gate but oh well, industrialisation amirite

I think the eight alarms thing is usually a maladaptation. You've trained your brain to ignore the eight alarms because you kept avoiding the training of willpower following the first alarm would require. I think some sleep therapy might help?

Hey so first of all fuck you, thanks.

Second: I love it when you read literature on sleep disorders, especially if it's on sleep disorders among folks with ADHD, and you see time and time again "when allowed to sleep on their preferred schedule subjects maintained healthy, normal, restorative sleep cycles" and "effects were not lasting without ongoing intervention; resetting the sleep schedule is a permanent effort."

Like, if I sleep *great* from 6am to 2pm and I wake up feeling rested and alert with no special help but I need to turn off the lights in my house and shut down all electronics at 8pm and beam a spotlight into my face starting at 5am to wake up at seven and feel exhausted all day, I think perhaps it is not actually my sleep cycle that is wrong it is perhaps society that is wrong.

BELIEVE ME, when I find the job that pays well and has decent insurance that lets me exist as a cheerful nighttime ghoul I am jumping on that with both feet. But until then I literally feel better getting six hours of sleep and occasionally sleeping so hard that i can't hear my alarms because of chronic sleep deprivation than I do turning off all the lights in my house and ceasing all activity two and a half hours after I get off of work.

Also: the eight alarms aren't all there to wake me up, it's just that sometimes I *also* sleep through the ones that are supposed to remind me to go sit at my desk and start work. One of the first three usually gets me up, but on a day when I sleep through all three of those I will be sleeping through all eight of them and usually a phone call and someone trying to shake me awake to.

ANYWAY after being treated with melatonin and light therapy and staring listlessly at the ceiling in the dark bored out of my skull with racing thoughts for sleep disorders that I didn't have for like twenty years the single most effective intervention that allowed me to get more sleep as someone with both ADHD and DSPD was to start hanging out and being active in places where it would be easy to fall asleep if the sleep caught me there instead of turning my bedroom into a dark, silent shrine of snoozing. Giving myself permission to fall asleep late instead of laying awake chewing myself up with guilt for not being asleep helped too.

Actually here's some tips for the sleepy bitches in the crowd:

1 - If you're laying down and not falling asleep in half an hour, you're not actually sleepy; read something or get up and do something because you're more likely to get sleepy faster that way than you are staring at the clock going "if I fall asleep now I'll have three hours and forty five minutes of rest when I have to go to work; If I fall asleep now I'll have three hours and twenty minutes of sleep when I have to get up, etc. etc."

2 - Allow yourself to be ambushed by sleep. Fall asleep on your cozy couch. Fall asleep in the comfy chair. Let yourself sleep where you fall asleep instead of dragging yourself to where you're 'supposed' to sleep if doing so will wake you up.

3 - The mythbusters thing. If you just lay down and close your eyes and pretend to rest you will feel more rested when you get up than when you laid down. Laying down to rest is better than nothing, it literally causes cognitive improvements similar to sleep in tests, and knowing that can help take off some of the pressure of not being able to fall asleep and can thus help you fall asleep.

4 - It's okay to "hang out" in the area where you're going to sleep. Read in bed. Play games on your cellphone in bed. If you want to go to sleep put on comfy clothes and bring a chill activity and hang out in your bed to do it so that all you have to do when you start getting sleepy is close your eyes.

5 - It's better to get some sleep than no sleep. Sometimes you look at the clock and it's six AM and whoops, fuck it. Okay, time for bed, don't stress that you're only going to get a few hours, a few hours is better than nothing. Lay down to pretend to rest at least and you'll probably feel okay.

6 - This one sounds silly and might not work for a bunch of people for a bunch of reasons but apparently there's some research suggesting that "well-rested" is a state of mind? I've had a reasonable amount of success with just telling myself "Yeah, I actually feel pretty good," and pushing through the day on a couple of hours of sleep. I don't *recommend* that and you should try to get as much sleep as possible, but yeah the next time you're low on sleep see what happens if you just try to decide to not be tired. It sounded like bullshit to me when I first heard it but I've found some success with it.

7 - This shit is cumulative. If you're doing a couple nights a week on low sleep that's not ideal but you're probably going to be pretty functional and you can work on it. If you overbook and overextend yourself for too long - I'm looking at you college students and new parents - it's going to add up. Try as much as possible to at least keep your sleep deficit nights spread out. (This message brought to you by writing 60k words of fiction in october and completely frying my brain because i wasn't getting enough sleep).

Now presenting my headcanon Altean views on being trans:

I think Altean transness had a lot of patriarchal concerns, usually coming from one’s own family. Alteans in high society could be very prideful about lineage and family history, leading to strife if they think their family line may come to an end. The same can be seen in the common people, albeit a bit different because of the class difference. Regardless, conflict about it tends to stay in the family and the authority of the family is highly respected in Altean society. [cont.]

Alteans don’t really marry, it’s more of a social contract represented by objects or children who have their parents names. Alteans also have less hang ups about non monogamy, but it’s complicated. For the more traditional types, queerness is acceptable as long as you continue the family line. In those cases non monogamy is often encouraged, though all throughout Altean society is the issue of relationship prioritization. Some Alteans can be highly judgmental of those who are not devoted to the parent of their child first and foremost. For others there is the belief they should be devoted to their team or cause before anything else. A more serious “bros before hoes,” if you will.

Allura’s transition was not without controversy. Although most Alteans don’t involve themselves in other family’s affairs, the royal family was often seen as fair game as they were responsible for the future of the planet.

Obviously, the first and foremost concern about Allura was whether or not she would continue the royal family if she transitioned. Alteans cannot shapeshift their sexual organs, and although she would have had access to advanced bio-alchemical technology, any fears about it being illegitimate were magnified as they were projected on the royal family.

Allura also came out fairly young, before she would mature as a man. This also tied into concerns about Allura’s continuation of Voltron. This was not a concern based in reality, but more in sexism. Melenor and Alfor played slightly different roles in Altea’s leadership. They feared if Allura was not raised to be a king she wouldn’t be fit to rule the country (Alfor primarily dealt with Voltron and technological advancements, while Melenor focused more on Altea itself and social issues. After she died it became a whole Thing, not getting into that now).

Most people shut up after Alfor declared his unwavering support. To the public, it probably seemed simple, but behind the scenes it was a lot more difficult. There was trouble understanding and also the grief that Melenor died before Allura could come out made her teenage years incredibly difficult, and she has a lot of unresolved feelings.

Aaaand that's where my note ended. There's a lot I could say about why I think these could mesh with what we see in canon but that's like. A whole essay I'm not gonna write rn. Also I need to rewatch the part of Voltron with the surviving Altean colony.

Also it might seem kind of strange in contrast with the more lighthearted headcanons people make but I wanted to do some deeper exploration of Allura as a trans woman and I think the body is only one piece of the puzzle. My current butch Keith series doesn't deal with the body very much at all. It's incredibly social, and I wanted to explore similar things with Allura with considerations of a non-human culture.

I've hardcore been getting into alien cultural world building lately. I'd love to explore Altea further, but that will probably have to wait until I'm done with my OC stuff.

The whole “Ingo has a receding hairline” thing has been, like, beaten to death by this point so I’m not gonna address that fullly. I for one don’t mind. However. Understandably, as a result of the hair reveal, people want to know when he got eeby-deebied into Hisui (immediately after the events of BW and BW2? A few years later?), and how long he’s actually been there (a few months? A year? Over a decade?). Everyone has been talking about it ever since the art book page was shown, and a lot of people have brought up really good points-- aaaand some people are just off the fucking tracks about it. So I’m just putting together what I’ve heard and what I’ve noticed myself. Here we go. Speculation for why Ingo has NOT been in Hisui for 10+ years:

1). Based on their appearances alone, we’re lead to believe that the player character is Dawn/Lucas from DPPt, but a couple years down the line. They’re not 10 like they were in Diamond and Pearl: Cyllene says right away that they’re “around 15 or so.” So right away we can assume that the events of Legends Arceus occur shortly after BW2 (which is set roughly 3 years after DPPt and 2 years after BW).

2). When characters like Irida mention Ingo and his origins, they talk about it as if it’s a more recent occurrence. If it had been 10+ years the dialogue would most likely come across differently to imply that he appeared in Hisui some time ago. Heck, they might even bring it up if that were the case-- yet we don’t see anyone saying “long ago” or “some number of years ago” in reference to Ingo spawning in. But again, see point one: if we’re to believe that the player character is Dawn/Lucas, who is said to only be 15, then the 10+ years timeline just doesn’t line up.

3). This one might be a toss away, but it’s been said before elsewhere so I’ll just throw it in: the art book states “XX years” or something like that which is ultimately what led people to believe that it’s been 10+ years since Ingo dropped in Hisui. Fair assumption. However, Xs are almost always used to state a vague and unspecified year (obviously) because people don’t want to date their concept in real world measurements, or they simply just don’t have an exact time period set. And given that this is a Pokémon game where the years and flow of time for the whole series is outside our own, we can assume that they’ve done the same here. Also, XX is arguably more visibly pleasing than just putting X. I mean, it just looks weird imo. I wouldn’t put much stock in any years or dates that Pokémon throws out.

4). Ingo’s memories. Yeah, we’re the main character and everything so it’s our job as the player character to go around helping people and progressing the story blah blah. But if Ingo had been in Hisui for 10+ years one would think he would’ve recovered some memories by now, right? I mean, all it took was him walking through the cave with us and having a Pokémon battle to jog some things loose-- surely he’s done both of those things numerous times before our arrival? It makes more sense that he’s only been in Hisui for maybe a year, maybe a couple months, and he’s only just now beginning to think about his past more since his memories obviously aren’t returning smoothly on their own.

5). The receding hairline from the book. I’ll just say it here: it’s not a bad thing if it’s canon-- men lose their hair, lol. That’s life. Even video game life. And Ingo has to be at least in his early to mid 30s (like in BW the Subway Bosses never came across to me as, like, super young or anything. Late 20s, early 30s for sure there). However, as some people have pointed out before, some of the things pictured in the artbook don’t exactly line up with what’s in the game. For instance, the picture of Ingo face down on the ground by the clan member doesn’t line up with what he and Irida say in the game (correct me if I’m wrong on this, though. I’ve seen it said by a lot of other posts). So it’s entirely possible the hairline is false (if you care about this. I don’t really. It adds character. And anyway, he always has his hat on so we never see it to know. Some people on Tumblr are just thirsty for twink men with a full head of hair or something like that). Anyway, it’s concept art. It’s job is to pan things out and plan, but not necessarily everything is set in stone. I think people are seeing the receding hairline and assuming this means Ingo is, like, old now. But who knows? I don’t think we’ve never seen his or Emmett’s hair before this. And I believe it’s the first time we’ve gotten a more detailed art page about one of them? Maybe it’s always been this way.

6). Again I make mention of point one. Because if we’re really to assume that the player character is the same one from DPPt but older (and I mean c’mon, with their appearances they just have to be), then there’s really just no feasible way for Ingo to have been in Hisui for more than 10 years. BW takes place about a year after DPPt at most. BW2 takes place, canonically, stated in game, two years after BW. And Ingo was still in BW2 (ignoring the fact that this game came out like 10 years ago and they had no notion of Arceus then, okay). So it’s safe to assume that Ingo fell sometime after the events of BW2. Say about a year or so after that. Two at most. Because that would land Dawn/Lucas at roughly 15, their given age in Arceus when they fall through the rift.

7). Grimsley. Remember him? He looked pretty young in BW, BW2. But then cut to Sun and Moon-- he was there on the beach right before Po Town, and boy did he look rough. Yet only about 2-3 years had passed since the events of BW, as stated in the game. So if we follow this logic, a lot can apparently happen to a person in two years. Ingo looks so disgruntled compared to his former art from BW and BW2, but so would we all if we had gone from living in modern day Unova to suddenly being dropped into a late 1800s era Sinnoh without any of our usual modern care products (probably why he has a cool little goatee now. Not enough opportunities to shave regularly) and constant stress and threats from a hostile world. This being said, he doesn’t look that much different from his og art, just really tired. He’s the epitome of “I don’t look older, I just look worse.”

8). Volo. Okay, so I’m sure we’re all aware by now that it’s Volo’s fault that Ingo is even in Hisui to begin with, not Arceus’s. As a direct result of him meddling with space-time and trying to get Girantina, the rift opened (and ultimately led to all of those smaller rifts/distortions that open up across Hisui from time to time where modern Pokémon and items are found). And this is all a recent development in the last year or so, as stated in game. As Laventon tells us, Jubilife Village has only existed for two years, and the big rift wasn’t there when they settled-- would you settle so close to a big disaster just waiting to happen? Probably not. especially not Komado, either. Like we learn in-game, he wants no issues-- he tells us about all his hardships in another land. The whole reason why they moved to Hisui and built a new village to begin with. In short, the rifts have only been cropping up in the last few months to a year in game, and we know that’s how Ingo got here. So it couldn’t be that he’s been around for 10+ years if the rifts are a fairly new development.

9). There’s just no way that Gamefreak would separate Ingo and Emmett like that, for so long, with no clear reason or wrap-up.

10). His shoes and dress pants from Unova are still intact. They for sure wouldn’t be after 10 years, especially walking around in Hisui. His coat and hat are actually more beat up than anything else, but still wearable and identifiable as his old uniform. Probably from his spin through time-space and just Pokémon battles and the climate in general. But also, they had to make him look disgruntled somehow but still be Ingo— and Ingo isn’t Ingo without his jacket and cap.

Did any of this make sense? Probably not. Did anyone read this far? Also no. I just really don’t believe that he’s been in Hisui for longer than a year based on a lot of in-game stuff and just based on what the games have done in the past with characters. In reality we just don’t know yet. I could be totally wrong! But until we get more DLC for Arceus, or until another Pokémon game comes out that makes mention of it, we just won’t have any clear answers about Ingo’s time in Hisui.

So... part of why I've been so hard to find lately is because I'm basically a caregiver for my mom who has both Multiple Sclerosis and Parkinson's. Recently she had a very severe MS flareup which has affected her cognitive functions, among other things.

The usual treatment to get the MS under control is steroids, very high dosages of them. After the initial flare things seemed to stabilize for like a week, one day she’s suddenly bouncing between catatonic and delirious. After spending the better part of a week in the hospital I got her back a couple of days ago. What happened? Until literally the last second, nobody knew, 'til I brought up the steroids again.

Turns out, steroid psychosis is a thing. High or prolonged use can trigger delirium, delusions, cognitive dysfunction and emotional disturbances. How the fuck does nobody mention this in the 30-odd years of seeking medical care for MS?! Thinking back, I don't think this was the first time steroids resulted in her going 'peculiar', but this is only the second severe flareup I've been a caregiver for.

I tend to hide the extended text for 'life' stuff, but this is fucking important. There's a limited awareness of this on the internet and much of it is in the context of fucking jokes.

Edit: Aaaand she’s in the hospital again. Relapse? Stroke? Too soon to say. GOD THIS MONTH HAS SUCKED.

Casey: Pasta from a restaurant that's a few blocks from our home. They have different pasta recipes from all over the world and we've tried almost every single dish on that menu and we both love them all, but his favorite is actually an Argentinian stuffed pasta called sorrentinos. They're like raviolis, but extra large... he likes the ones filled with spinach, ricotta and nuts. And they usually don't have takeout, but we go there so often that they are willing to make some exception when it comes to us.

Describe your first birthday with him. What did he get you? How did you celebrate?

Casey: It was the sweetest birthday ever, so take a seat because this is a long story that deserves to be told. At that time, we were seeing each other in secret and kind of trying to figure things out, but we weren't even official. And we had been dealing with a really tough case in the team for weeks. We couldn't diagnose this kid and I tend to break everytime I must see kids battling for their lives, so we were working late almost everyday, I was exhausted, my energy was drained and I didn't feel like celebrating at all. So I had told my roomies that I just wasn't in a mood. I was also trying to hide it from the team because you know, it's the job, but Ethan suspected that the case was getting to me. And he confirmed it when Sienna told him how much this case was affecting me at home. So he decided to do something about it without going over the top and by keeping things simple. So that day, I woke up because someone was knocking at our apartment's door... and he had sent me the most beautiful bouquet I had ever seen... but as we were secretly "a thing", I had to tell the roomies that it was a gift from my brother, because I didn't want them to think I had a secret admirer or something like that! 😂. And after work he just asked me what I wanted to do because he didn't want to push me to celebrate if I wasn't in a mood... and I just said I wanted to go home. But for some reason, and now that I think about it, I never asked him why, he didn't take me to my place. Instead, he took me to his place, he cooked an amazing dinner, we took a nice and warm bath, and then we cuddled and watched silly movies until like 2am "because even though he hates silly movies, he had realized how sad I was and he wanted to make me laugh". I felt so pampered, so protected, so taken care of... I was happy. And that day I knew it: Ethan was home.

Ethan: For the record, I only took you to my place because I knew that if I took you to yours, you'd be taking the work home with you again and you'd be feeling miserable because solving the case was taking us longer than expected.

No questions, no judging, just support.

What do you remember the most about the first time you met her?

Ethan: It took me 30 seconds to realize that she was not the average intern. Any other intern, including me, would have failed at dealing with the pressure of an emergency thoracotomy in those circumstances, but she was brilliant.

Ethan: Sneakers. Why does she need so many? She only wears a pair at work, a pair to workout and a pair on weekends. She even owns a basketball pair even though she hasn't played basketball in over a decade! She has enough sneakers to wear a different pair every day for at least two months.

i would love to read a meta about your thoughts on possession horror theory since all the main characters are possessed at one point its something I haven't seen much discussion on but is super interesting since they all have such different relationships with possession!

okay this IS something i have been going off about at all times so i'd love to but be aware my thoughts on this are always super disjointed and incoherent (which is why i make video edits bc i feel like i can communicate them there clearer by connecting different clips from the show to express my point) AND this will be under the cut bc i talk about how possession -> sexual violence is like. the core premise of how possession works in spn

SO like to start with. possession in spn is pretty much inextricable from sexual violence, not just because of the act of possession itself but bc of how the show talks about it. with the case of meg and her 1.0 vessel, it's extremely blatant — in 4.02 she says "Seriously, I'm just a college girl. Sorry — was. I was walking home one night and got jumped by all this smoke. Next thing you know, I'm a prisoner..." and that is just word for word about the most textbook sexual assault scenario people think up. so that's there on a metaphorical level already, but there's also a literal level with meg actually sexually assaulting three different characters (sam in 1.16, jo in 2.14, dean in 5.02 — all while assaulting the vessel she's in at the same time), and demon deals being sealed with a kiss is also another way that manifests (and the horror in that is especially heightened in cases like bela's demon deal — she was A Child and making that deal to Escape Abuse At Home To Begin With — and mary's deal — azazel was literally possessing Her Father at the time)

then you have angels where their premise is that they can't occupy a vessel without their consent. like that's their Rule. but getting a "yes" means so little when you are going up against an angel like that. they can't technically lie to get your consent, but they can misrepresent the truth all they want. angels are all powerful and they can promise their vessels that they'll fix all of their problems. sam tells lucifer that he'll die before saying yes to him and lucifer says he can just resurrect him, there's no way to avoid him. i think a lot about what castiel must have said to claire to get her to agree to become his vessel — in my head he told her that if she agrees, he will bring jimmy home bc that is exactly the kind of thing a ten year old in her situation would agree to. and then castiel goes to jimmy and tells him. "it's time to go home now. your real home. you'll rest forever in the fields of the lord." and to cas that is… Keeping His Promises. but i'm sure claire internally was going I DIDN'T AGREE TO THAT. so angel consent is really just as flimsy as straight up demon possession, to me.

aaaand then of course you have the sam and gadreel plotline wherein sam is LITERALLY tricked into saying yes and kept locked away living fake realities in his brain when gadreel takes over and dean keeps lying to sam's face so sam doesn't find out the truth about what is happening in his own body etc etc. gadreel manipulated dean into it by lying about his own identity and lying about how long he would stay in sam and just generally lying about everything. it's obviously extremely loaded and horrifying for sam who already has so much body/possession trauma behind him at that point (lucifer, meg, that kid in swap meat, etc you get the picture!) AND struggling with perception of reality post-hell AND on top of that gadreel like. kills sam's friend. while wearing his body. so sam has that to deal with forever on top of all of these other retraumatizing sets of circumstance. [sam is also the victim of the MOST sexualized language when it comes to possession, eg lucifer is wearing you to the prom eg you're like that prom date that keeps turning me down eg a dozen other lucifer lines i don't expect you want me to repeat in this post]

with dean i think a lot of problems stem from the idea that he is Made for doing x thing. like he's made for being a hunter he's made for watching out for his brother he's daddy's blunt little instrument. he Could change and he's constantly taunted by all the ways that he could change but he won't, bc he thinks it's too late for him, or that bad things will happen if he does, or he's just not capable of changing for good. so then you get the angels telling him that he's Made to be michael's perfect vessel and taunting him with visions of how he will ruin the entire world and everything he cares about if he says no and that breaks him down like, pretty fucking fast. and he survives season 5 without saying yes to michael at the cost of sam jumping into the pit with lucifer which is obviously. everything he was most afraid of happening anyway. and then fast forward eight years and alt universe michael makes dean his vessel anyway so the theme of Inevitability is just always There he really was Made To Be This

and then cas is, as i was talking about earlier with @eurydicecas (hi i hope u do not mind the tag), the only one who has been on BOTH sides of this like cas possessed jimmy and then lucifer possessed cas and it's like — the show never really gives the proper attention to how cas feels about all of this, we know he says yes because he's suffering from chronic I Want To Feel Useful To The Winchesters (dean) disorder but the aftermath of that is really barely explored and it's just a huge missed opportunity. but we were also talking about how with angels and consent it's like angels aren't always cognizant of how much they stack the deck against their vessels to control their consent — they think that as long as they can promise their vessel goes to heaven and lives in eternal peace in the end, does it really matter whether they die at 30 or at 80? the preciousness of human life and their time on earth is just NOT something they understand, and most of them don't want to understand, but cas does learn that! he grows to love the world like a human would and even spend time as one and feel as one and THEN… be used as a vessel as one for lucifer. like. by that point it's NOT jimmy's body it is HIS body he feels a sense of pride in it he feels at home in it and then he spends all that time waiting in the bunker kitchen in his brain its just fhfkgsmd. insane.

anyway none of this is truly meta it's just me getting a ramble of thoughts out about this because it is something i am extremely passionate about and love to talk about but it's so hard to get my thoughts about it out in an organized way bc at the end of the day it all just makes me !! so !! insane !!
