Twilight Town: The Frankenstein Twins
Sometimes I got to remember Frank and Len have been and always will be my favorites of the show and I think they’re the most popular aside from Misery and Ruby. I even drew a sketch of them from memory and now Twilight Town exists.
And since I have grouped both twins together. It’s gonna be a long one for the monster analysis. Especially since they’re based on a monster with a LOT of lore and background so let’s get started now
Why is the design part so damn long??
I always saw the twins with two different styles, especially in the Rock aesthetics. Frank would be the 50s-70s style of rock. The checkerboard and pomp hair definitely played a part there. It’s why he got jackets and more biker/greaser type style (growing up my mom used to do a happy Days musical). Len is the punk era of rock. Messy hair, flames, and just extra edge. His fashion was experimental and less clean as his brother. Aside from that I gave them different instruments. Frank has “Devil’s trophy” a golden bass and Len has “Tombstone” a tombstone styled guitar.
So when I was making the twins. The original concept had them still conjoined in adulthood. In fact most of my early sketches had them like that. They could only split apart with magic. I even had a storyline that they asked Jackie to do that and they would live non-conjoined for 24 hours. In the end, the decision would be that they would split as adults via surgery.
The choice of making them separate was the multiple struggles that would come once they’re adults. Relationships would be complicated, one sibling would have different ones compared to the other, and ultimately, they couldn’t blend in pretending to be a costume which I already made a post about, almost getting killed by humans.
The Modern Prometheus
I think I got the idea that Frank and Len were Frankenstein monsters from talking with my friend who is also the co-creator for ENAF. Honestly there was a lot of details that would work for that concept. Frankenstein’s monster sometimes gets his names shortened to be just Frank or Frankie, different illterations had him green (on rare cases blue), and even the visibility of stitches (which took me 13 years to see). So once I had them be the sons of Frankenstein’s monster (which is actually Frank 1) and Bride of Frankenstein (who is named Eliza) I did as much research and story writing about the whole family as I could. It’s why they have white hair streaks, hate fire, covered in stitchesand are affected by electricity. They get shocked and burned just as much as misery sometimes lol.
With the idea that they can eat humans is simply the fact that they’re undead monsters, almost in similarity to zombies. They’re far more intelligent and controlling than them since they have active non decaying brains and creations are different. The two have a rule with Ruby that they can only kill and eat humans who harm or attack them so they don’t just go by eating them all the time.
Background and Origins
There was a man named Victor Frankenstein. He lived nearby a monster sanction. Rather than react in fear, he was friendly to them which led to his exile from humanity. With no family to have, he created two monsters via science, Frank and Eliza Frankenstein. The couple were happy with Victor, even taking up careers in music becoming popular musicians with Victor’s support. (Oh and I have designed both parents. *yay*)
At some point, Eliza had twins who were unfortunately born stillborn due to lack of vital body functions. Since this would be likely the only chance the monsters could reproduce, Victor sewn the twins together and reanimated them back to life. The twins would be named Frank and Len and would live most of their childhood with their family before moving to Twilight Town as teenagers with a growing band.
When they were 18, they decided to undergo a procedure done by Victor that would give them two complete bodies by using their dna to replicate their bodies. After that they were no longer conjoined but no matter it, they still prefer to be close.
Next Up: Polyphemus

So one of many parts of me explaining my sims HC's of how the sims universe is
Part One The Timeline
So Sims 3 is messy in the timeline because different worlds take place at different times so that will be noted when needed
The Sims 4 is similar in difficulty but also different because" it's an AU" so the Sims 4 is taken lightly on the timeline with parts that will be built upon later in explanation posts
the baseline of years are also based of the constant characters of the goths and the fact that sims 2 came out in 2004
-Sims 3 Twinbrook- between 1900-1910(The Curious brothers grandfather was a toddler)
-The Sims 3-Late 1950s-Early 60s
-Sims 3 Monte Vista, Roaring Heights -Late 60s-early 70s(The Montys and Capps are still young and growing a there families)
-Sims 3 Midnight Hollow, Lucky Palms, Moonlight falls-Mid 70s-early 80s(The Summerdreams are young adults, The Dreamers are young adults, Nervous Subject is a toddler)
-Sims 3 Aurora Skies -Some time during the early 80s (The Beaker siblings are alive and Loki is a child)
-The Sims 1- the late 80s-early 90s(The goths are adults and Cassy is a young child with out her brother Alex)
-Sims 3 Sunlit Tide-between 1986-1988( I know this is really specific but if the pleasant twins are between 14-16 in 2004 they had to be born between 1988-1990 and Mary-Sue and Daniel are on their honeymoon in Sunlit Tide. This also takes into account the theory that if The Sims 1 had a teen life stage Daniel would have been a teenager.)
-The sims 4 Horse Ranch and Cottage Living-Mid 90s-Late 90s (I put these two together earlier than The Sims 4 because Mortimer's aunt Agnus and her "Dead Husband" are elders)
-Sims 3 Dragon Valley-Mid 90s(John and Jennifer Burb are unmarried and Lucy isn't born yet)
-The Sims 2- 2004-05 (This is the baseline year with Bella being abducted in the Summer of 04 and then I am guessing the events of The Sims 2 take place between Summer 04 and then Summer 05 given the handful of pregnancies we know of and the fact that Seasons start in the winter with the exception of the Greenman who start the next spring)
-The Sims 4- the 2010s-Present ( Look at the game and tell me you don't think it takes place in the 2010s it might just be the fault of the game being stuck in 2014 in style)
-Sims 3 Lunar Lake- 2020s ( I just feel like its the vibe of Lunar Lakes plus if Mathilde Goth is the third goth child that would have had to be born after Belles abduction in the 2000s she would be a young adult now pretty much )
-Sims 3 into the future-"New World Hundreds of Years into the Future" (this is a direct quote from the back of the Disc)
Parts I want to but somewhere else on the timeline but I am not sure where I would
The Sims 4: My Wedding Stories- In My Wedding Stories Arnessa Thebe talks about how she misses her Aunt Queen and Uncle Eetion. And how her and her dad{Queen's Brother} would visit them time to time when she was a kid. So this just creates a wired gap I have yet to figure out yet.
Princess Cordelia Thebe- So still being on my Thebes issue. In the sims 4 in text it suggest that Princess Cordelia lived at least 100 or so before the events of the sims 4. But Arnessa is referred to as her Descendant which to me suggests more than 5 generations But I think that maybe Arnessa is like her great-great granddaughter. because in 100 year you don't really get decedents you get great-great grandkids. Maybe Cordelia never got to meet if she was older and had a kid or two.
If you read this whole thing WOW. If your wondering what I am on to come up with this much of a sims everything timeline my answer is hyperfixation and Cherry Slush Alani. I think its wild this is just my like baseline timeline to without any like actual headcanons besides estimated ages.

I'm writing out my overarching headcanon about VIncent's life and how Gaia and it's people looked pre-SOLDIER program because I want too:
I'm of the mind that in Vincent's era, there was a lot of growth like we have in our own day and age, much like the 50s-70s, Midgar would have been a work in progress. Maybe only one or two upper plates would be finished and livable, but a sizable undercity was already underway to growth.
I believe that this would be when the beginning of the science department of Shinra would truly begin, so Shinra would have been using the Turks as more of their heavy hitters as SOLDIER was still a small budding program being thought up by Shinra's defense department.
Seeing as the war between Wutai and Shinra didn't happen until 1985, I'm going to go under the assumption that they were in a cold war with each other ever since the power company began building reactors, so the Turks would be much more utilized than they are now.
I have the headcanon that Vincent and Veld were partners or at least worked with each other when they were in the Turks and their missions would have looked like those of spies and government agents (with different rankings and capabilities. Not everyone would have the same job just like a normal government job.)
I also love the idea of their world having similar clothing styles and music to ours during those years, so Vincent and Veld would have been young adults in the 60's and 70's.
I also think that with what happened to Vincent (getting shot and killed by Hojo), he did actually die physically (lurcrecia even talks about how she can't stop the decaying when talking about Vincent in the tank in DoC) so there would be a loss of memory that Vincent would have from actually dying and being dead for however long.
Like sure, his memory loss could have been slowed by the Mako and experiments, but there would be SOME memory loss. So I think that the man we know now is not the whole Vincent he would have been. The reason I say that is because a lot of the memories he does have are from times at Shinra Manor and nothing really else. It's mostly from Shelke's POV that we get the remaining memories about Vincent's past, and that is from Lucrecia's POV of how she saw Vincent. So my HC is that Vincent has a lot more to him than he remembers about himself.
Anyway long-winded explanation of why I think Vincent Valentine has more than meets the eye and I can justify my more fun version of him XD
Back to it. Here's where my headcanons come in heavy:
I think Vincent's mother is a Wutainese woman, Grimiore having met her in his early years of exploration as a scientist, before things with Shinra started to get more competitive. I believe that when Vincent was a teenager, his mother left for Wutai due to the simmering tensions between the two powers, unable to take him with her as he had no citizenship there and I do not see him wanting to leave his home.
Vincent and Grimiore don't get a long for a while because Vincent thinks his father should have convinced her to stay. He joins the Turks at a young age, having met Veld (who I think is at least a decade older than Vincent) who worked with his father, not really knowing about the ins and outs of what a cold war meant or even who was the aggressor in the conflict. He knew his father worked for Shinra and they were bringing progress to their city and home, wanting to help any way he could.
#Vincent Valentine#Veld Dragoon#headcanon#ff7#final fantasy 7#final fantasy vii#ffvii#Always feel free to be inspired by anything I write#I would literally read five million words about the same shit over and over again

▪︎ REDESIGNING GRANDMASTER GLITCH
Part Three of my Go Jetters Re-Imagined / Redesigned series, and for now, the last adult character- its time for the one and only, Grandmaster Glitch !! It was a very fun opportunity to finally get to try my hand at redesigning the series' main villain, so I really wanted to go all-out on making a visually unique answer dynamic design, that really screams "Grandmaster Glitch", inside and out.
For my design, I decided to take cues from 70s and 80s cartoon villains, from series such as Masters of the Universe, Transformers, and TMNT. The idea was for the outfit to appear more menacing than Glitch himself, with sharp and square shapes, which convey his villainy, contrasting with his much more goofy, and misunderstood personality traits. His design is also meant to look a little bit like it could have been based off an old Go Jetters' uniform- as Glitch was an expelled ex-student. I'd like to think that he modelled the base suit from his old Jetter suit from the 80s, changing every little detail to eventually end up with what he got. It's definitely a home-made job, regardless. I also took some steam punk influence into consideration for this design, with the mechanical and metal details reflecting that part of his style, and calling back to the similar nature of his inventions.
Glitch's 70s - 80s villain inspired look is meant to contrast and rival Ubercorn and Jett's designs, which take influences from a different part of the same era, which better helps to identify them all as the "adults" of the cast, if their general personalities and demeanour did not do so already. I also tried to physically age Glitch a little from my last designs, making him truly look like a man having his evil mid-life crisis / power trip. I like to think that he wears his helmet at all times, because he's started balding underneath and he's rather self-conscious about it, and how it "ruins his image". I also kept his jet-pack's wings- which are retractable !! And that's my design deep dive !! ♡♡
♡♡♡
Thank-You for reading all of the way through- I hope that you like my redesign !! Once again, I am SO-SO incredibly proud of how this design turned out, and I really think it's an improvement over my last Glitch designs. Nice to see him finally looking his age. Next up, will most likely be Tala, starting us off for the kid and teen characters from the show ♡♡ . Just like the last two, I have made a "Funky Fact File" version of the work, so that you can get to know Glitch, with this bio including both my headcanons, and a little bit of canon information, and a fun alternate layout. Thank-You again !! ♡♡♡

Here's the redesign for Andre Bourgeois!
God it was such a fucking pain to do, but I got it done after a few days.
Design Choices-
So for Andre's regular redesign, I kept his grey hair. I imagine because he's the mayor of Paris, the owner of a famous hotel celebrities stay at and with his wife being famous as well, the stress made him go prematurely grey. Because of the extra stress he's under due to occupation and the sudden appearance of akumas I also gave him eyebags. Like there is no way this man is mayor, a hotel owner, trying to reassure the people of paris about the akumas and not losing immense amounts of sleep over this, with stress. I changed his tie to a bow tie to differentiate him from Gabriel because I know they're going to end up looking similar in my style. And because I've changed his character a bit, i feel the bowtie suits him better. I also gave him dark red reading glasses, and darker blue eyes. His suit is just a regular one with some black dress shoes. He's also on the shorter and stockier side compared to Audrey and Gabriel who are taller and thinner.
I also redesigned Malediktator. Now I'm not fond of the canon design for Malediktator at all, the colours are all too bright in my opinion. And after looking on Tv Tropes the hat he wears is supposed to be like the one Napoleon Bonaparte wore, however because of the shape and colour choices it doesn't quite look like that. And I just don't like it at all.
So for my version of Malediktator, I tried to go into a more historical direction. I gave him a tricorn hat, and long coat as well as breeches, and buckled shoes. I gave him a cane. Now you may be wondering where the akuma is if I never gave him the sash, but it's in the cravat, which regularly is his bow tie. His skin I kept blue but it more of a desaturated grey-blue colour so it's less eye strain. His sclera's are a cold grey-blue and his irises are red with light red/white cats eye pupils.
Personality/Story Changes-
I changed Andre's age because in the canon show apparently he's 70, which I'm not dealing with, so instead he's younger but him and Audrey are on the older side of all the adults. At beginning of my rewrite he's 45 years old and by the end he is 47 years old.
In my rewrite, him and Audrey have known each other and dated each other for a longer time than they knew Gabriel, Emilie and Natalie. They met at a theatre Audrey worked as a costume designer at, and Andre had gotten a temporary jobs as a screenwriter at. He left after a while to study becoming a lawyer but was still dating Audrey, while she started her own fashion brand. Eventually they got married, had Chloe and he became mayor, then Audrey went to New York for a few years to set up an American branch of her fashion brand.
For personality, I made it so he's not corrupt and is less willing to assist Chloe in her antics because Chloe is also toned down. I also made him a lot more paranoid, it makes more sense for me due to his jobs, dealing with akumas and Chloe causing akumas in my opinion. I also made him more nervous in general. He deeply cares about Audrey and Chloe, but due to workload he hasn't got the time to be around Chloe, which is partly why she's lashing out for her parents attention which she doesn't get because they're both heavily overworked.
For his relationship with Audrey, they love each other and they're pretty much an opposites attract relationship, because I changed Audrey a lot in my rewrite, mainly she's not abusive. He's nervous and paranoid and Audrey is the strong commanding one. She helped him find confidence, whereas he helped her from rushing into things and messing up.
In my rewrite for the majority of season 1 and 2, Andre is nervous and paranoid especially with the akumas. He worries alot about the safety of his daughter at school because of the akumas and is worried about his wife returning. He knows that if she returns while the akumas are about, due to her stubborn personality she'll become an akuma or an akuma will target her. This changes when at the end of season 1 Darkblade almost executes him by guillotine. Then Audrey returns.
Season 2 mostly stays the same until about 3/4 of the way through Audrey gets akumatised into Style Queen and then the next chapter he's get akumatised into Malediktator. Now the reason for his akumatization changes from Audrey and Chloe wanting to leave to him having meltdown due to stress and not being able to truly protect his family from the akumas and Dague Noir. He becomes Malediktator and takes over quite a bit of Paris with him taking Audrey to city hall to protect her. Chloe as Queen Bee shows up on her own and reveals her identity to Andre to distract to deakumatise him by destroying the cravat.
Then for the season 2 finale Miracle Queen occurs due to an argument between Ladybug and Chloe over Chloe wanting to be a hero. But Ladybug won't let it happen due to her revealing her identity and Ladybug simply not wanting to deal with Chloe.
Season 3 begins with Andre and Audrey realising simply how bad their neglect of Chloe affected her and promise to be better parents to her. This goes mostly well with them trying to teach Chloe how to ride a bike. Chloe doesn't tell them about the bullying she's now facing at school simply because she doesn't want to bother them or stress them out because she's enjoying this new family bonding time with them. However shortly after this Andre and Audrey go missing after going away for a weekend for their wedding anniversary. The police found their car crashed on the side of the road by a tree with blood inside of it, but they aren't in the car or anywhere near it for that matter. Unbeknownst to Audrey and Andre, Gabriel is Dague Noir and has taken them captive in order to blackmail Chloe into working with him. For the rest of season 3 he holds them in a private cabin he purchased privately, so no one can find where they are. Gabriel does have a tv in the cabin so they can at least see the news. However they have injuries from the crash, with Audrey having a few broken ribs and Andre having a broken foot. They don't find out Chloe is Abeille Gardienne until the end of season 3 when Mayura and Dague Noir come back to the cabin solely to give them Chloe's blood-soaked hoodie from her impalement, and Dauge Noir ranting to them about how much he despises Chloe
For season 4 nothing really happens, with Audrey and Andre, apart from them worrying about what the hell is happening with Chloe, and figuring out Gabriel is Dague Noir due to Andre telling Gabriel where he was going for his anniversary because Andre still thought they were friends. Until at the end of season 4 Chloe, Adrien and Sabrina take down Dague Noir and Mayura. Chloe reunites with her parents at the cabin, but immediately after seeing them she passes out because of exhaustion and her lingering injuries revealing the facial damage to her parents. At some point during their kidnapping Audrey and Andre also see Chloe as Abeille Gardienne have a breakdown on live tv, because of the stress Chloe's facing having to work with Dauge Noir.
Roger Raincomprix arrives to the cabin with Butler Jean and Miss Bustier only to find Andre trying to strangle Gabriel for what has happened. At the end of the story, after Gabriel and Natalie's trial, Andre and Audrey try to move on with their lives while being better parents to Chloe. As well Adrien gets adopted by them.
Next redesign will be Audrey, then Gabriel's.

Oh Lordy this is a saga. For a super duper long time I didn’t care and just wore whatever. Jeans and t-shirts , it was the 70s and early 80s. I remember a pair jeans I had with rainbows on the back pockets, and a long sleeved ocean pacific shirt that everyone made fun of because they said it was a knockoff and not a real OP but it totally was. I had long hair that I didn’t cut and didn’t even pull back and it just hung around my face like Carrie. In 8th grade I got totally into wearing headbands and had 4 or 5 including one that was puffy and red like a ring of Saturn around my forehead. I can only assume this is the costume of a girl who isn’t interested in getting boys to like her, though it wasn’t that conscious in my mind just yet.
The last time I switched schools was 1985, just before my junior year. That’s also the summer I met Jessie and saw the Hunger, so it was time for a change. We went goth/punk 1980s Oklahoma style. I remember three wardrobe standouts: a pair of ballet flats with hieroglyphs on them, a black sweatshirt I cut the collar off, flash dance style and would wear over everything, and a tight, short skirt that was one continuous print of that 50s photo of people watching a 3D movie. I wore that until all the elastic went out and I couldn’t keep it on my ass any more 😂
Jessie and I split up when i went to college. I stopped dying and crimping my hair and let it grow out long again over the course of some years. I stopped trying to hard to be alternative looking, but I still liked black clothes, lots of ruffles and layers. Legit I had a black velvet cloak I wore when it was cold. I had a barrette shaped like a bat and used it to pull my hair back, on the days I didn’t braid it and pin it up Masterpiece Theater style. Dress like this and go sit in a tree and read Jane Eyre with zero irony. WHY DONT LESBIANS WANT TO DATE ME?!! 🤣🤣🤣
When I started teaching in the early 90s I had to go to the (thrift) store and buy adult looking clothes. Lots of jumpers (American meaning) and cardigans. This evolved into dresses and cardigans, I liked short waists, big skirts, no buttons, and a pair of Birkenstock Mary Jane’s which I still own. My off work style was kind of similar. Dresses and skirts and cardigans. I started wearing more colors, but it was still boho chic. Linen, velvet, the occasional Indian find with mirrors embroidered onto it. I cut my hair into the curly bob I wore for the next 20something years and continued to have very few dates.
After my kid was born and I was a stay at home mom, I let my hair grow again and plan to keep it long. It’s easiest for me, and I like the way it looks. I still prefer dresses and skirts, natural fabrics. I still only shop at thrift stores, and am interested only in pleasing myself, so I love to find odd pieces. I started wearing scarves around 2007 and now they’re a part of my look to an almost ridiculous degree (my kid was teasing me about thrift shopping the other day and said ‘yeah you gotta go to every one! What if you miss a scarf!) but I don’t care because they’re gorgeous and warm and dress up an outfit and frame my face while hiding my old-lady wattle 😂
One of the moms on car duty the other day was dropping off her daughter and gave me a long appraising look, then said critically “What does your husband have to say about the way you dress?” I was so shocked all I could say is “Mr Frizzle loves it.”

I’m hearing people complaining about the latest video saying that it’s ‘just an ad’ and my feeling is very much that it’s an ad the same way all those cartoons I used to watch as a kid were ads.
Jem and the Holograms had no reason to exist except to promote the dolls. But it still managed decent 80s style music and interesting stories. The early My Little Ponies were very much the kind of stuff adults imagine kids do with dolls. Heck, even the Barbie Movies, many of which are quite strong enough to stand on their own are generally accompanied by a toy line. The Transformers Movies. GI Joe. I mean seriously, almost anyone who’s my age knows what follows ‘And knowing is half the battle’.
Was it an ad? yes. But it also was very much the Sanders Sides. We knew it was advertising the plushies, and at the end they were plugged, but for the purposes of the short itself, they were just a plot device.
It gave us the Sides talking to Thomas in a different room; still arrayed in similar but different ways (Logan in front of the diploma, Patton in front of a different door, Virgil on the desk the way he sprawled on the landing in his first appearance) and a return to the idea that each of the sides has their own version of Thomas’ apartment that’s decorated to match them!
Anyhow I may have been thinking about this too much. See you later, I’m going to go label a jam jar and start saving my allowance.

So I was just thinking about Danni, and the general oblivious level of the Fenton parents. And it occurred to me if you wanted her adopted into the family, they could tell the frickin truth.
“When did we get another daughter?”
“Yeah, so Vlad cloned me, but Danni wanted to live with us instead.”
“Oh that Vlad.”
“I hope he got your permission first, sweetie.”
“Welcome to the family! Jazz, get the Fenton-living space increaser, so we can start on making her her own room.”
“Please start with blueprints, not sledgehammers, Dad.”
“No? I’ll have to talk to him about that. Honey, do you think we should invite Vlad over for dinner?”

was thinking yesterday about the difference between compliments and admiration.
Because you can be admired, even a lot and still not get complimented.
So, the way I see it, compliment are like reblogs and admiration is like likes. both are good, but one doesn’t have the punch of the other.
then I went on a side thought about being appreciated vs either of those things.
Appreciation is: I’m so glad you did that! Thank you. Admiration is: Wow, you’re so cool! and compliments are more: You’re so good at that! you did great!
so they’re all really similar, and all good, but they just hit differently.

Atomic Anna
Author: Rachel Barenbaum Page count: 449 Rating: 4 / 5
My rating: 5 / 5
'' Just because you can, doesn’t mean you should ,,
This book. Was. So. Freaking. Good. Oh my god.
I started it about two weeks ago, but had to take a break because EW's Encyclopaedia of Faeries came in, and that one had a sooner return date. Also, when I first started Atomic Anna, I wasn't that into it. I didn't really vibe with the writing style; there's nothing wrong with it, it's just not a style that I usually prefer. However, after taking a break for a few days to read EW's EOF and coming back, I got SO. HOOKED. I was at about 35% completion on Friday morning, and I read all the way until 90% completion by the end of the day. I so badly wanted to finish it, but I was so tired I couldn't keep my eyes open. I finished it Saturday morning, and immediately told everyone I know how fan-fucking-tastic it was, and recommended it to all my bookworm friends.
It took some time for me to really appreciate the way the story was being told; I think I had trouble getting through the beginning because I found Molly to be absolutely insufferable as a child. I can sympethize with her in some ways, in her desire to be treated as an adult and make her own decisions as she grows up. The difference, however, is that my parents never held on too tightly like hers did. Mine never questioned my choices or tried to steer me onto a different path like hers did. And as a result, I never felt the need to act out or grasp freedom in anyway possible. Molly did. It really was such an interesting and heartfelt experience watching her move through life, making many, many, poor decisions in a desperate attempt to control her own life. And then seeing Raisa grow up, how different she is from Molly and how similar she is to Anna. One of the key elements of this story is each character's interaction with her mother; how Anna held on to so much anger and resentment for what she percieved as her mother leaving her for something more, how Molly idolized Anna and fought so much against Yulia as a maternal figure in her life, how Raisa resents her mother for the decisions she's made, but can't help but love and want to help her despite it all. These feelings built the plot-behind-the-plot of this story, and form the cornerstone for the decisions made throughout the novel.
Also, just in general, historical fiction is awesome. This novel takes us back and forth between Germany in the 40's, the Soviet Union in the 50's and 60's, and the USA in the 70's, 80's, and 90's. We see the Nazi occupation in Berlin, and the affects of WWII on the USSR, the meltdown at Chernobyl, the fear of nuclear war in the USA in the 50's; all intertwined with time travel. Another reason I loved this book so much: I'm a huge sci-fi nerd. I'm admitting it. I loved all the science and math in this book, the discussions and theories on gravity and light and energy and how it all connects. All of this, told through the lens of three generations of women's lives; it's a fucking masterpiece. I love the way that time travel allows us to bounce back and forth between what Anna is doing in the future, to seeing how Molly's life is developing, to moments of Anna's past in Berlin, to Raisa back in the future. Each time Anna jumps, we see how things developed in the new timeline she's created; we get glimpses of what was and what is and what will be. And in the end, we see that time is cyclical (which is one of my absolute favorite theories when it comes to time travel), and that everything that will happen, already has. If you see an event happen in the future, you think that every decision you make is putting you on a course to either realize or avoid that event. But in the end, it was you seeing that event and making those decisions that led you to that moment in the first place. There's no way to avoid it, because time is a circle.
Anyway, enough theories. As amazing as it was, I'm not sure this is a book I'll read again for a long while, just because it was long and emotional and chock full of heavy science. But it has definitely earned a spot on my Favorite Books list.

(04/06/2023) Okay, I'm calling it, lot of interest--good to know! Here's the full rundown. Make sure to read these. CONTACT ME THROUGH IMS, NOT ASKS.
I will be taking 2 slots for the time being. If work is still slow once I get these done, I will probably take more. These will extend into next week, as this style takes a lot of time, and I do not work on commissions on weekends.
Personal use only, meaning you cannot make money with these, be it prints, streaming promos, a patreon header, whatever--none of those.
1 commission per person/slot, unless it is a very minor alt (ex. a character with and without the skyrim vampire eyes, which is fast and can be done easily.) Other minor alts that require more changes may have a small fee.
Please specify cropping and if you want the regular version of the style (1 & 2 above), or the simplified one (3).
Fantasy series only (TES, similar series, similar original stuff), I can't guarantee it'll work well with modern fantasy stuff or modern anything. There are also some series I will not draw at all. I'll let you know if you ask for one.
A visual reference for OC/player characters is a MUST, be it drawn, a game screenshot, or a screenshot of their model T-posing in blender, or whatever. Any in-game screenshots need neutral lighting. Not super bright sun, no dark and gloomy. I've gotten ref screenshots like that before and they're very difficult to work off of.
Given the nature of the style, a lot of features are simplified and /or omitted, be prepared for that.
If you want a really specific pose but feel like words can't describe it, feel free to doodle it in mspaint or something to get the idea across, I love that shit
Shipping IS fine! OCxCanon, CanonxCanon, and OCxOC are all good. If I'm not comfortable with a pairing, I'll tell you. Additional characters will add to the cost.
Nudity and suggestive are fine of adult characters, no explicit sexual acts (given the payment system requires you to be 18+ anyway).
Prices will be individually estimated per piece. They will start at $30, more complex pieces with multiple characters will be closer to $70-75.
Payment is via Paypal invoice only, I will need your associated Paypal email to send the invoice to. I do not do paypal. me links. I do not start until you pay in full.
I will have no qualms refunding you and cancelling your commission if you are overly-demanding, trying to force your commission in front of others' to be worked on, keep trying to add new features or tweaks to the piece once I'm working on it, are trying to have uncomfortable conversations with me, suddenly drop a deadline on me, etc.
I can say no to your commission for any reason I deem fit.
Interest check for fantasy (TES, DnD, etc.) commissions in the above style? Work is slow, so I have time—probably about $30-75 or a little more depending on cropping, scenery and context. The simpler style (3rd) (not a doodle page, just the style) would be on the lower cost end. These will be personal only, no commercial use permitted.
vote YES if you would want to order a slot in the very near future, and are willing to/can pay within that range. Also don’t say yes just to be nice, PLEASE don’t do that kind of thing

Aaaaaalrighty, starting off the High School AU with a sketchbook page of Eddie. It’s pretty… low effort, I suppose, but it’s the best I can currently do…
To not make things easy for myself I decided to not only make this an AU (obviously) but to also put it in the early 80s, late 70s. So the fashion is inspired directly by that of teenagers/young adults at that time (according to Google - I sadly can’t reference anything I know aka that time in my country because, you know, we didn’t have shit, especially not the colorful clothes). I mean, he’s supposed to be 16-17 (Junior) here.
The notes on the sides are mostly for myself and I can hardly blame you if you can’t read anything through my weird spelling mistakes and sloppy handwriting. This one was mostly to get the feel for the character’s style. I’ll probably do the same or similar thing with other characters ((totally not because I wanna finish my sketchbook by the end of the year, not at all)) Do not (please do) ask me about his special interest note. I decided it’s only fair to literally model his interests off of younger me. Okay, fine, also current me, because the interests do aline quite well and it all fits.
//I apparently forgot to add that I of course headcanon him as autistic, that’s the only way to go
#wow okay we’re making a tag for it now I guess#Gotham High School AU#there#eazy#no but seriously it’s just for my page#edward nygma#gotham tv#nygmobblepot#mixedmedia#fanart#my art

PART II: Breaking the Mold
[Part I]
It’s been a while, but now that the chagim are over and I’ve had a small amount of time to even hear myself think, let alone to write an essay on tumblr, I am back! With additional Thoughts™ about this question.
After considerable thought, googling information about music theory and musical history, and completely destroying my YouTube algorithm with Xtian recommendations, I want to reiterate just how limited my actual answer about this can be. I am not a scholar in this area and so a ton of this is just based on my experiences as someone who grew up in a musical, church-going family and turned into a shul-going adult with some musical background and interest.
One of the things that has been driving me crazy about this is that for every general broad principle I could identify, I could, without much difficulty at all, come up with a counter-example from the other tradition. I think the reality is that while certain trends are true in the aggregate, there is so much cross-pollination and regional overlap between Judaism and Xtianity that picking them apart is extremely challenging. (When I say regional overlap, what I mean is that Jewish music draws from all the numerous places in the diaspora to which Jews were flung since 70 CE; meanwhile, Xtianity has intentionally attempted to reach every corner of the globe and assimilate each local culture into it. Therefore, both religions draw from almost every possible musical tradition you could come up with.)
Therefore, I think the best way to demonstrate both the major differences and the similarities is to put comparable examples side by side for listening and comparison. It’s hard to describe, but easy to hear.
The basis for each comparison will vary. Sometimes, I think it’s interesting to compare musically similar – even identical – songs to show how Jewish artists approach the material versus how Xtian artists do – to illustrate specifically the stylistic differences or the differences between the underlying words. Sometimes, I think it’s interesting to compare songs that have very similar themes to show how each approach and depict these themes. Sometimes, I think it’s interesting to compare musical adaptations of the same Psalms or texts. I will explain why I’m comparing them and my layperson’s opinion of what the differences are and why. This is not in any particular order; perhaps I’ll organize it better at some point but for right now, I just want to put it out there.
Because tumblr limits the amount of links one can put in a single post, I am going to break this up into multiple reblogs, so please bear with me.
Let's start with one that has fascinated me for a while:
1) Jewish.... gospel music?
You've almost certainly heard this song, Higher and Higher before, most likely sung and instrumentalized like this. This is the same song written by Shlomo Carlebach and the first linked one is a version sung by his daughter, Neshama Carlebach in collaboration with the Green Pastures Baptist Church Choir.
[Important note about the music I link here: I know that a lot of these people are going to be Problematic. I don't care. That's not the point of this post. I am well aware of the issues with some of these musicians, whether Jewish or Xtian/Messianic. I'm not linking them because I support them; I'm linking them as a study of their music only. Please don't derail this post with comments about the artists.]
Now, I have no idea what prompted this particular collaboration, but that whole album is quite interesting. In the original song, you can hear common Jewish music elements from the guitar style to his singing style, the arrangement, and to some extent, the themes, although the themes are vague enough to potentially be either. The song itself is quintessentially Jewish.
Once you introduce the GPBCC in his daughter's version however, the music changes dramatically, solely because of the singing style. These are gospel singers, and extremely talented ones. It's a beautiful arrangement of the piece, and I quite enjoy it. However, its original Jewishness becomes overlaid by a singing style that is so closely associated with gospel music, that it becomes impossible to ignore how the actual meaning shifts. In many ways, the words and themes always fit nicely within both traditions, and once you have the GPBCC singers handling the vocals, it transforms the sound profile to one that sounds quintessentially Xtian. That it is all in English only intensifies this effect.
The song is still a Jewish song, of course.
Anyone who knows Carlebach tunes is likely to recognize it as such. But if you did not know that context, one could easily play it on a Xtian radio station without batting an eye or likely even upsetting listeners.
2) Let’s look at another song where the melody overlaps, albeit set to different words: This version of Yigdal compared to The God of Abraham Praise.
Both use the same tune, but arrange it in different ways. Additionally, the singing style is very different. Yigdal is, of course, a traditional liturgical piece and is in Hebrew, whereas The God of Abraham Praise has been translated into English. It's worth noting that the original words are attributed to Daniel ben Judah (14th c.) and the translation/paraphrasing is attributed to Thomas Olivers (1725 - 1799). I'd be very interested in reading a true translation of this poem, because I can almost promise that liberties were take with the paraphrasing here.
However musically, what I find the most intriguing between these two songs, is less the obvious as mentioned above, but the specific flow of the songs. If you listen to The God of Abraham Praise at the end, you'll notice that the artist repeats the phrases, and then adds something of a coda at the very end, with a satisfactory chord to complete the tune. Now re-listen to Yigdal. Somehow, somehow, the Jewish version, despite ending on a much more resolved note than many Jewish tunes, still sounds open, unfinished. It trails off after the repetition of the second verse, leaving the listener to invent more notes afterward of their own.
To me, this is a fascinating and theologically significant difference. This is discussed in detail in this article, "How Time’s Arrow and the Phrygian Half-Step Make Jewish Music Holy," which explains how Jewish music seeks to replicate a certain amount of timelessness and also unfinishednes - theological keystones of Judaism, as understood through the rest of Shabbat and the brokenness of living in an unredeemed world.
This comes up in Jewish literature too. Consider these passages by Dara Horn in People Love Dead Jews:
I can't explain it better than Horn does here, but the bottom line is that Judaism tells us that the world is not redeemed and that it is our job to put the pieces together; Christianity tells us that the world has already been redeemed by Jesus and that his followers have to get everyone else on board.
This longing for redemption and the unfinished project of tikkun olam comes through strongly in Jewish art, music, and literature, as does the triumphal notes do in Christian art, music, and literature.
Going back to this one particular example, Yigdal and The God of Abraham Praise - and actually my first example as well - listen to how they each end. Which one makes you feel like there is more, something just on the other side of the music, and which one makes you feel completely finished with the song, that there is one answer and that it has been already given?
More comparisons to follow.

FAN THEORY THURSDAY: How Strong is Megamind?
As usual, this post contains information about the film’s plot. So if, for some unaccountable reason, someone out there is reading this who still hasn’t seen this movie after ten years... hurry up! You’re missing out! And also, SPOILER WARNING!
If Megamind can be said to have a superpower, it would, of course, be his amazing intellect. After all, he understood more about mechanics and engineering as a toddler than many human adults. (You can read more about that in How Smart is Megamind.) However, that may not be all that our favorite blue hero has going for him.
Of course, when we think about strong characters from the movie, the first one who comes to mind is Metro Man, followed closely by Titan, but, while Megamind may not be able to match their super-strength, I would contend that he is not a puny weakling either. Here’s what I mean:
Megamind, admittedly, looks skinny and small, but it’s important to keep in mind that he is an extraterrestrial with a very different physiological makeup than the typical human. This may, possibly, include musculature. For all we know, by the standards of his race, Megamind may be a muscle-bound hulk. In fact there is some evidence to support the idea that he is actually a lot stronger than he appears, and several fan theories have drawn from them to argue, quite convincingly, that the Blue Defender is, in fact, much more physically powerful than one might assume.
The first of these is simple. Megamind was raised in prison. Starting from a young age, he would have had to defend himself to avoid beatings, bullying, and worse. Of course, as a young child, he presumably had the protection of the older inmates who, we see near the beginning of the film, took him under their proverbial wings. Once he’d reached adulthood and become the feared supervillain of Metro City, his reputation would likely have been enough to keep him safe. But what about between those two periods? Minion, of course, might have been given such a large mechanical body in order to act sort of like a golem body guard, but the Criminal Genius and Master of All Villainy would have been too smart to have relied on that alone. After all, what if Minion wasn’t jailed with him, as we see at the beginning of the film? Adolescent Megamind would almost certainly have had to fight during his tenures in prison.
The second basis for the Megamind-Is-Stronger-Than-He-Looks fan theory is fairly obvious: he does things during the movie that require strength. During the course of the narrative he picks Roxanne up three times: twice around the waist and once princess-style. While Roxanne isn’t corpulent, she’s also not a skinny little waif, fans estimate that she is a US size medium, and therefore weighs around 130 or 150 pounds ( 70 kilograms.) Megamind himself has a waist about one-third smaller than Roxanne’s, making him about the same size as a person wearing extra-small. This means that, assuming his physiology is similar to a human’s, he’d only weigh about 110 or perhaps 120. When he lifts Roxanne, he is picking up someone ten to forty pounds heavier than himself without straining.
Next, there is the simple fact that Megamind builds things. While it’s true that he has the brainbots and even Minion to lift heavy objects for him, anyone who has ever worked on their own car (or any other machine) will tell you that turning wrenches all day long takes some physical power. For Megamind to spend at least part of his days welding, hammering, and riveting, he would have to have a certain amount of strength. Then there’s the fact that all of those metal body panels have to be produced. While it’s likely that he’s built himself some sort of advanced 3D printer, metal presses, and similar devices, I think it has to be considered that at least part of the work would require more hands-on modifications. Besides, this leads to a sort of “chicken or egg” argument. He still would have had to build the metal fabrication equipment as, presumably, a supervillain can hardly call up a supplier and place an order.
Of course, there are also Megamind’s battles with Metro Man and Titan. While we never actually see he and Metro Man fight, as the latter fakes his death near the beginning of the film, and we can speculate that the former hero of Metro City likely tried to avoid doing any serious harm, Megamind still would have needed the strength and endurance to take quite a beating. Then, of course, there were his two battles with Titan, who certainly did not hold back. It’s likely that Megamind has protective gear and energy shields-- I may write a post about fan theories concerning some of his creations next week-- he still would have had to be tough and physically fit to endure being thrown against a concrete wall by someone with super-human strength.
Next, there is the brief scene when Megamind punches Titan. Two things happen which indicate that the blue alien has some serious power behind his strikes: first, he moves Titan’s head with one punch-- no small feat when dealing with someone who is basically Superman gone wrong-- and, when he punches his enemy with the saw attached to one arm, the saw breaks. Anyone’s first thought would be to give one-hundred percent of the credit for that to Titan’s super-strong, bulletproof capabilities, but think about it in terms of force. If the saw broke before Megamind’s hand could, that means that the force of his blow would have to be greater than the tinsile strength of the metal. That’s some serious pounds-per-square-inch pressure!
Exactly how much pressure are we talking about? An article on J. Wood Science explains that, depending on the quality of metal, there are four grades of compressive strength among circular saws: 300, 600, 900, and 1,200 MPa (one-million Megapascal Pressure Units.) To make life easier on my decidedly unmathematical English Major brain, I’m going to use the average of these four numbers, which would be 750 MPa. That’s not a small number, trust me. To put in in perspective, according to a second article on Open Oregon, the highest-known compressive strength of a human femur is roughly 150 MPa, meaning an average circular saw can take five times more pressure than an ordinary Earthling’s leg bone. That’s going to become important in a moment because we’re about to imitate our favorite blue genius and dive into some calculations.
Thankfully, both are measured in Megapascal Pressure Units—with psi being 6,894.76 PA compared to MPa’s 1,000,000—meaning that psi can be calculated as MPa x 145. This makes the pounds per square inch force needed to “equal,” for lack of a better term, the 750 MPa compressive strength of an average circular saw is a stunning 108,750 psi.
However, the edge of a blade is its weakest point, and the thinner the edge, the weaker the blade will be. Because circular saws are, naturally, made for directional cutting —and thus focused on sharpness over strength—the edge, if struck directly, would likely offer a significantly lower MPa. However, even if we reduce the MPa to a mere ten percent of the original number, that would still make the force needed to shatter the blade 10,875 psi. If that sounds like a lot, it’s because it is. The average power behind a human boxer’s punch is only 770 psi, making Megamind roughly fourteen times stronger than a fit, muscular human male. Don’t challenge this guy to an arm wrestling match any time soon!
Finally, and briefly, Megamind’s attention to physical fitness is pseudo-canon. In the comics, most of which are not considered canon but are (sort of) supported by DreamWorks, Megamind actually informs Roxanne that he works out. He even indicates that, by the standard of his people, his physique is impressive, saying that he has to work to keep himself in such good shape.
So, there you have it. The fan theory that Megamind is stronger than he appears has quite a lot of support from the movie and other sources. Megamind’s intelligence is still certainly his greatest asset, but the blue hero isn’t all brain and no brawn. In fact, it seems that he balances an incredible intellect with the ability to kick butt when necessary. Clearly, with its new Defender protecting it, Metro City is in good hands!

Sidestepping into an AU and invoking Rule 63 (the genderflip option): Would Nick and Ziggy have had the same dynamic and same outcome if they’d been Nicole and Christian instead?
So I've been thinking about this all morning, because there's a lot potentially there.
So let's start with the issue here: Nicole theoretically could never exist within the constraints of this universe. The Pact specifically rests on the First Born Goode Son, and you could make the case that the Devil makes sure only boys are born to the line anyway. A girl being born would be a calamity, either a sure sign of being out of favor with Satan and having the clock running down on them or a gross inconvenience to be set aside in favor of her younger brother which her father would set about procuring. Which means if there was a Nicole, she would be vastly different from Nick. She would not have been the heir apparent, nor already be assume to be taking her father's place later. She would not have those pressures and isolation, though she'd likely have the same social aloofness, that Nick suffered as being the one in on and expected to carry on the demonic secret. And likely be resented and neglected by her father; I think the Goode family's brand of intrafamily misogyny is very bad and the insidious kind to boot.
Of course, that could give her an even bigger link with Ziggy in canon as sort of outsiders and her being pleased the Princess of Sunnyvale is also a Stephen King reading weirdo that feels lonely and out of touch with her family; in this she'd be just as shunted to the side as Ziggy was in canon, not put on a devastating pedestal like canon Nick. Both isolating and damaging but in very different ways; Nick and Ziggy connect through being oddly similar in canon, this would add to that. And we know Lesbians are a favorite theme of Fear Street's. In fact they'd parallel DeenaxSam a lot more closely, especially since the whole thing is that Sunnyvale's what would people say vibe makes it sooooo much harder to be gay even if people are not homophobic to your face but behind your back as it wouldn't be "polite" to shout slurs. Shadyside seems to be way more laidback about it because well: shit's doomed. Who gives a fuck. You might get some assholes who would shout shit but most people don't care.
If it was also Ziggy but his first name is Christian, they would also have some basis to bond, as the whole bad boy from the wrong side of the tracks and Uptown Girl is a trope in its own right. The kicker being, Nicole probably wouldn't have put Tommy's name on the wall and would not have been able to save Christian, if it happened at all. And because of that, the adult NickxZiggy dynamic would not be reflected or possible.
Now onto Ziggy but his name is Christian, as a character. I think he'd also diverge significantly from Ziggy and that's also due to gendered dynamics. For one, his relationship with Ziggy would likely have a maternal bent, as instead of sisters it would lean into Eldest Daughter Raises her Younger Brother. The hurt would be there, but different. More than Christine's "fuck this we're doomed and you're a poser might as well live it up and fight back" I think it would be "you turned away from me too, ashamed of me, rejecting me. If you, essentially my mom and sister, don't want me, fuck it might as well live it up and fight back". But Ziggy's issues are also very gendered; it's a witch hunt led by mean girls and the ways they hurt each other are also more girl style; insults, attacking their rooms or clothes (Ziggy's paint idea) and so forth. Christian likely wouldn't have that style of torment, it might be more physical because boys in the late 70s and even now, or he might just be socially ostracized/the weird kid instead. Or even go completely in the other direction, part of Ziggy's issues is that the only peers she has (other Shadyside girls close to her age) are her sister, Alice and Joan. Older and tied to her sister in a way that cuts her out. The other Shadyside campers appear far too young. Christian might have more friends or seem like the tough cool kid or be more able to make friends with other boys via age or connection. Tommy and Gary seem very nice dudes, and Arnie also seems easy going and would, unlike Alice, probably be friendlier. And idk, boy Ziggy is less compelling to me because of that I think. Maybe it's just the fact that I was a weird difficult teen girl. And there's more tolerance of strange boys vs strange girls.
But since we mentioned the lesbian version of Nick x Ziggy, let's consider the gay one. This one could also be compelling and closer to the original dynamic, and like above, give it new dimension. If Nick was experiencing same-sex attraction it would hit him really hard because of the whole weight of legacy and the expectations on him and Sunnyvale norms. If in canon admitting to Stephen King was treated like something he could never show to the world, imagine something as big as that. Feeling he was a fraud unworthy of the family for this too. And Christian living loud and unapologetic, and also feeling separate from his family and kind of amazed and flattered if wary, like in canon, that the High Prince of Sunnyvale really wants to connect with him and they do click. And in this case, Nick would still be behind what happens, like in canon, and would be able to save Christian, and it would make the dynamic of them as adults that much deeper. Nick wants to reach out to him but can't because he could literally never publically be with him. The weight of the note would be like tenfold. Maurice levels of longing and distance. And that mall scene? Because Christian probably wouldn't tell random kids he kissed SHERIFF GOODE, he just made it sound like friends, and Deena, who had her suspicions from how Ziggy told the story, sees the way they look at each other and goes. Oh you motherfucker, that's what this is about? You took it out on me because you're too cowardly to face up to it? Living a miserable lie? And broke his heart too? YOU'RE A DEAD MAN. YOU WERE ALREADY BUT THIS IS EXTRA PERSONAL NOW.
Either way, I don't see a happy ending anymore than in canon. Satanism ruins lives, and Nick's in particular.

Deciphering the years in which Shadowsan grew up in
Alternative title: Debunking the supposed fact that Shadowsan is 40+ (I’m looking at you, cs wiki)
Since Shadowsan’s flashback in s02e03, this has been on my mind. After some intense image searching, I can finally share the fruits of my research.
Let’s cut to the chase.
This is Shadowsan as a child, then known as Suhara. (Also pictured are most likely his playmates.) The style of clothing they wear, which you can see mostly on the other kids, were fashionable as everyday wear for children during the 60s (and possibly earlier during the late 50s). This nostalgic blog in Japanese in which the author talks about their childhood and details the timeline of the decade, also describes the fashion worn by himself and his peers.
The caption (fortunately in English) as follows:
Children of everyday wear of 1965 is this is it !!
The boy on the far right and the two boys on the far left are wearing the style most similar to what we see in the flashback--sweaters worn over their shirts, and shorts that barely stop at the thighs or, if longer, above the knees. We can safely say that Shadowsan spent his childhood at least somewhere in the mid-60s.
Now on to the second decade and this time, we’ll be looking at Shadowsan and his brother. But first, we’ll be focusing on the most conspicuous example for what was considered the style of that decade.
This is Hideo as a young adult. Now the decade in which this took place was easier to figure. It might help that I had a 70s phase in college lol. The type of glasses he wore originated in the late 60s as a reaction to the unattractive and sometimes even downright butt-ugly spectacles of the past decades (except cat eye glasses but even that was a mixed bag). However, this style of eyewear really peaked in popularity during the 70s and it endured somewhat into the 80s.
Glasses became seen as fashionable with their large, thick, and colorful frames as seen in these ads. Tinted lenses, if we’re talking about sunglasses. Now what only stumps me is that I cannot find the exact example for Hideo’s glasses, as I see only one bridge on his frames instead of the more common two (those are the type of glasses Shadowsan buys for himself during the Fashionista Caper showing us that fashion is cyclical, but I digress). Regardless, the shapes are there.
As for his hair, you can simply find it by typing “70年代 アイドル 男性” in google image search. But for the sake of one example:
The only slight difference is that apparently, most of them parted their hair to the right instead of slightly to the left like Hideo does (and Masashi Sada as you can see above. Bonus points for being the few famous people in Japan who wears glasses so now I’m given the theory that the character designers lowkey based Hideo off of him. Highly unlikely, but it’s a nice thought. While we’re here, check out one of his songs like this one). His hairstyle also lasted until the 80s (because any start of the decade will always have holdovers from the previous one) until perms and hairspray made them even crazier. Hideo’s hairstyle can be describe as ‘feathered.’ Hideo’s clothes lack the then ubiquitous bell-bottom pants and wide lapels of the 70s though I’m chalking that up to even Hideo thinking those were silly (bell-bottoms could actually sweep up the dirt if you don’t wear platform shoes..I also tripped on them twice while walking ;w;).
Next, Shadowsan--este, Suhara as a teen.
Because he’s a rebel, it’s a given that his style does NOT reflect the popular fashion of his youth unless you’re in a gang (or trying to look like you’re a part of one). They seem to have one thing in common though: a buzzcut.
This was a photo of what seems to be gang members, taken by Katsumi Watanabe in 1972. The man on the middle right is the closest we have to Suhara’s style, befitting a misfit of Japanese society. On the contrary to medium-length feathered hair and colorful clothes, such rebels would go out of their way to stick out from the norm. Worth noting that the bosozoku fashion--in which elements of American choppers and 50s greasers are combined with Japanese elements (i.e. gakuran--high school uniform for males, hachimaki, sarashi, tokkou-fuku--”special fighting jacket”, etc.)--did not become quite popular until the 80s, so what Suhara wears is more or less a prototype of what will become the stereotypical look of Japanese delinquents (although those styles have actually coexisted too).
Now with all that out of the way. We can estimate as to how old they really are.
If Shadowsan was a 60s kid, that would place his birth years somewhere during the end of the 50s or the very beginning of the 60s, making him 50 plus or early 60s at the time of the show’s setting (2019).
Hideo, meanwhile, I’m just gonna take a wild guess and say he’s 5 to 7 years older (or even 10 considering how much older he looks compared to his brother in the current show), which would place his birth years squarely in the 50s, beggining, mid, or late. In the show’s setting, that would make him either 60 plus or pushing 70 years old. If 10, mid 70s or plus.
Until a concise number is given to us by the CS crew, I will strictly hold on to these conclusions as their more or less true ages. Of course, everyone is free to disagree because, after all, these are only theories and if they were to be debunked in the future, I won’t be surprised. Just a little heartbroken lol Because I’m not a historian of any sort nor am I Japanese, feel free to add on this or correct me on some mistakes I might have made.
And that concludes this post. Class dismissed ;P
(Last minute addendum: I would also like to point out that though it seems that most VILE operatives recruited are young as some argue that any VILE operative student had to be 20, nowhere in the show does it require only a certain group of young people can join. It might be entirely possible that as long as one is an adult (20 or older), one can join VILE. And Shadowsan, from the looks of it, seems to be in his late 30s or early 40s when he was a student going by his facial features. He just used to look really young bc Asian aging is a paradox. You can be older than you look, vice versa, and suddenly look like your age. But hey, like I said, only theories)
Ok, now I’m done~
