I swear I’m not a violent person, but if I see another fancast of Evelyn Hugo where they suggest a non-cuban/non-latina actress, I may slap someone – like the person who did the fancast.

I don’t think some people understand how important it is that a book so freaking popular, has a Cuban bisexual woman as the lead; and how low-key racist is that fact that they are trying to erase that an putting a white woman in her place.

The book clearly indicates several times that she is Cuban, that she has dark hair (dyed blonde), and that although she isn’t dark skinned she isn’t white passing either – hence the blonde dye.

And yet… all the fancast I see on social media are of white american actresses without any type of Cuban or Latin descent. I have even seen Taylor Swift of all people; and I say this a big swiftie, but Taylor isn’t an actress. A music icon, yes; an actress, no. And more importantly, she isn’t Cuban! (Not to mention the amount of Taylor Swift content under the Evelyn Hugo tags.)

What bothers me the most is that before Taylor Zakhar Perez was officially cast as Alex Claremont-Diaz, I saw the same behavior. People fan casted actors that weren’t Mexican or latinos, and they got defensive when you called them out on it.

Latinos, especially queer Latinos, are so underrepresented in big and popular productions… You doing fancasts where you erase the ethnicity of the character, are part of this same problem.

diversity december masterlist

logan howlett x reader

the idea of diversity december is to write fanfics for people like me who don't often see themselves represented. these don't necessarily need to be holiday related fics, or even winter related.

if any other writers want to participate i would absolutely adore that. even just one fanfic means a lot when you never see things written with you in mind.

the librarian (latina reader) (🤍): after the events of logan (2017), in a world where logan survives, he and laura move to a small town to start a new life. laura quickly becomes very attached to the librarian, and seeing you with his daughter makes logan fall hard.

autistic reader (🤍): a drabble about logan dealing with reader who gets overstimulated. also slightly a logan character study.

curvy reader (🩷🤍): logan is obsessed with your thighs. this was supposed to be shameless smut and somehow turned out soft and loving.

black reader (🤍): you're a single mom to a shy daughter. when your daughter makes a new friend, laura, you start to spend more time with her father, and naturally, you fall for his gruff demeanour and kind heart.

afro-latina reader (🤍): when you start working as a professor at the x-mansion, you give logan a reason to stay and spend more time there. friends to lovers.

genderfluid reader (🤍): you love decorating, you do it for every season and holiday. this time, logan joins you in the festivities. (no religion is specified for the reader, it is not mentioned whether they celebrate christmas or not)

bisexual reader (🖤🤍): the worst wolverine comes from a universe very different from this one. a universe where things aren't as great for queer people. so naturally, he panics when you ask him if he has a crush on his roommate.

autistic reader (🤍): there are days where eating is a struggle, where nothing tastes right and it becomes overwhelming to deal with. logan refuses to let you go to bed without food, so trial and error it is.

disabled reader (🤍🖤): dealing with chronic pain is hard, especially as an x-men. but logan is always there to take care of you when you have a bad pain day.

desi reader (🤍🩷): trying to teach logan how to cook ends with you on the table, his head between your legs.

latina reader (🤍): annoyed at the way laura always makes comments in spanish when she doesn't want him to understand, logan comes to you, asking you to teach him his daughter's native language.

jewish reader (🤍): with all the christmas celebrations in the x-mansion, you decide to take it upon yourself to plan hanukkah festivities for the jewish children at the mansion.

100%. One of the things that I’ve learned being an undiagnosed afro-latina girl with ADHD and possibly autism as well is that we will NEVER TRULY be able to safely unmask the way that white people are able to do so. They don’t have to worry about constantly being seen as a threat or dangerous compared to us. 

And that’s just dealing with outside our community. Our own community is so much worse. Ableism is so frequent and normalized that it’s actually disgusting. Black/POC kids who are overstimulated and having meltdowns are often told by their parents that a "whooping" is what they need to stop their behaviour. It actually makes me sick to my stomach. There's so much more that our community needs to work on but that's not gonna happen anytime soon 💔

Racism and misogynoir are so apparent in fandom, especially when it comes to shipping because why is it when a white male, sometimes female but I see it more with the former, character is on screen with a love interest, particularly woc, especially if they're black, and even with all the emotional scenes or just moments where they look at one another in ways different from the rest, it's met with "No, they aren't dating/the show is not going to put them together" but let the other love interest be white as well and suddenly it all makes sense? Heck, the examples I mentioned above don't even have to exist between the latter for some to STILL go and believe this rhetoric (eg. some Jace and Helaena shippers because, even if these two only interacted with a dance but yet we see Baela console Jace, after he seeks her out, apparently it's to far fetched to believe that Jacela could be a thing?!)

Sometimes it could be a headcanon that, largely, would make sense (and oftentimes was birth due to lack of respect that the poc characters could have been given by the writers *cough* TVD *cough*), and yet you'd still have people dismissing it left and right and spewing hate. At a HEADCANON! And I'm not saying that just because the other person in the ship is poc that you have to ship them, I'm not, but it's very apparent to many poc fans in fandom that unless the characters are swapping spit and doing the nasty, the possibility of them being viewed in any romantic lens feels too much of stretch even though their white counterparts don't have to jump through the same loops.

I wonder if there's something special in the the water down in Brazil that makes for some of the most beautiful transgender women on the planet? Just look at her picture perfect face!
