Let's criticize Disney and their awful decisions, one of my favorite activities.
Apparently they are working on a new animated show called "Primos" based on a latinoamerican household. However, they had no idea what they are doing and when people call them out, they are playing the "you don't understand" "it isn't that bad card".
One of the main issues is that they are using Spanish phrases that are grammatically incorrect. If this was a person speaking Spanish in the show, then it wouldn't be that bad because you could understand that it is learning the language, but they are using it in the slogan and main intro of the series. If you are going to use a phrase in another language as your slogan, at least be sure that is correct. Someone mentioned this to the main voice actress of the show, it should had been mentioned to the official page instead and the actress could had perfectly ignore it. But no, the actress choose to call that person a grammar n*zi and say that Spanish is a conqueror language. WTF?? And that is the person you choose to voice the main character?
There are more issues like the name of the kids - specially one named as the slang for p*ssy, which I found incredibly weird that they decided to use this word for a children name. The city is named Terremoto (Earthquake), a natural disaster that had caused hundreds of deaths in Latina American countries.
They started promoting the show as a latinoamerican household, and then changed as Mexican household when people told them Latina America was more than Mexico.
And one of my main issues is the awful design of characters with curly hair and brownish skin compared with characters with light skin. I mean, look at this:

Is as if they decided to do everything wrong on purpose.

Why JRH & LMM matter so much to me...
TLDR: I'm a Hispanic-American woman raised by a Central American father who loved musicals before he could even speak English to understand them.
I love seeing other Hispanic men embracing this form of expression and engaging in the community to show that loving musicals doesn't make you "white" or "gay".
If you want a more in-depth explanation of what JRM and LMM mean to me and my family, please read below.
I'm a Hispanic-American woman who was raised in a predominantly white area. My entire life I've been made fun of by my cousins and the friends for loving musicals so much.
You see, my dad's never been a traditional machista Central American man. Back in his country, he remembers watching Grease on a friend's TV (they were too poor to own one in his house), and he loved it, despite not speaking English. He loved the music and dancing.
Then he came to America in the 80s. Dirty Dancing and Footloose were released. By that point, he understood more English. He watched and loved both. When I was born, I grew up watching these as my dad's favorite movies. Since I was an infant, musicals have been a part of my life. My dad couldn’t afford Broadway or anything like that so he wasn't a fan of musical theater in that sense. But he was a huge fan of movie musicals so we watched pretty much all of them as kids.
With things like Disney Channel and (later on) YouTube slime tutorials, I was exposed to more musical theater. I showed my dad so many videos about all of the shows I thought he would enjoy the most. He even took my siblings and I to Broadway multiple times now that we’re older and can afford that kind of stuff. He sat in the Circle in the Square and Walter Kerr Theatre in tears when we saw Once on This Island and Hadestown, respectively. Now he’s a fan of more traditional musicals thanks to the internet making it more accessible. Which is great! However, despite its accessibility improving…it’s still not common to see Hispanic men engaging with musicals.
Musical theater is objectively a white industry. The more I got into it, the more my friends and family would make fun of me. I never really cared or was even offended by it. I grew up hearing my cousins and uncles call my dad "gay" for liking those kinds of movies. He always went along with their jokes and never seemed bothered by it. As I got older and realized how problematic their statements were, it started to bother me more.
Because my dad likes musicals, he has other be gay?
Because I like musicals, I have to be white?
How does that make sense? There's something wrong or othering about him because he's into musicals so he can't be a "normal" man therefore he has to be gay????? I'm a woman so it's okay for me to like musicals but, actually...no because I'm a brown woman I can't????
Absolutely idiotic and bigoted.
Like I said, it used to never bother me because it never seemed to bother my dad. Even now, it's almost 2025 and he still says he doesn't care because he likes what he likes, no matter what people say. Which I love to hear and see. But at the same time, it bothers me greatly that this has been a topic of discussion in my community for years.
Now it just makes me so happy to see other Hispanic men in musical theater making a space for themselves.
It's my hope that as musical theater becomes a more diverse industry, my community will be able to unlearn the stereotypes we've absorbed and regurgitated for decades.

Thank you to NetGalley for an ARC!
This book is the perfect Halloween read!
While this book is definitely not a horror novel, there were plenty of spooky moments and horror references that feels just in time for Halloween season. I hadn't expected that based on the cover, so it was a pleasant surprise!
The characters read as realistically teenager-y to me. Jaxon is moody and anxious and stubborn (same, dude) while Christian is upbeat and cheerful but is also putting up a front to hide his fears. Also, I really appreciate that Christian is a glasses-wearing jock.
There were certain conflicts that I feel got brushed off/didn't get resolved fully, but for the most part, everything gets resolved pretty well.
I feel that the necromancy aspect isn't fully fleshed out, but as Jaxon is new to this/still figuring things out, I think that's fine.
Overall, a pretty solid YA fantasy, I will definitely be looking forward to see what the author writes next!
P. S. I love Grimalkin the cat so much 😭😭😭

Friday Feature: Crystal Maldonado – A Champion of Latine and Plus-Size Representation in YA
Crystal Maldonado’s Fat Chance, Charlie Vega is everything I needed—Latine & plus-size representation, fearless Spanglish, and a story that celebrates self-love and authenticity. Can’t wait to dive into more of her books! 💕📚 #FatChanceCharlieVega #Latin
When I first picked up Fat Chance, Charlie Vega by Crystal Maldonado, I knew I was in for a treat. From the very first chapter, I was hooked by the honest, heartfelt voice of Charlie—a vibrant, witty, and fiercely relatable plus-size Latine protagonist. This was the kind of story I had been yearning for—one that fearlessly embraces Spanglish, showcases the beauty of Latine culture, and…

sakamaki with a latin gf!!! pleasee
From author: I fucking love poc asks so much. Also to make this just a tiny bit easier on myself since I have writer's block rn, I'll just do something a bit short today
Sakamaki's with a Latin gf
Shu Sakamami
🎻- Slightly intrigued by the culture
🎻- Would honestly ask a couple questions if he was up to listening to you rant about your customs
🎻- Honestly likes the music you play sometimes (he has a playlist of Celia Cruz but shh)
🎻- Also yes yes before you shoot me, I know he likes classical but he seems like the type of guy who could appreciate the way how salsa music incorporates different instruments to have a specific kick to the genre
🎻- Once you told him about paella and now he asks you to make it for him almost all the time
🎻- Terrified of meeting your family and avoids it at all costs but tries to pretend it doesn't bother him
Reiji Sakamaki
☕️- Extremely educated on Latin culture
☕️- Asks you for local book recommendations
☕️- Genuinely wants your opinion on Japanese culture and how much of a difference it is compared to your own
☕️- Like Shu, he enjoys the music and if he had to pick he'd say Los Tres Diamantes was his favourite band from that genre
☕️- Invested in learning Spanish and takes pride in tackling another language alongside German
☕️- Since Latino culture is extremely diverse, he'd ask you about your OWN personal experience a lot of the times
Ayato Sakamaki
🏀- "Of course the great ore-sama could obviously get any girl he wants from around the world!"
🏀- Cocky asshole
🏀- See it's one thing being able to charm those around you that you share similarities with, but it takes something special to make someone completely different than yourself fall in love with you
🏀- And Ayato knows this, takes pride in it even
🏀- Hmm when it comes to how interested he is about the culture I'd give it 5/10
🏀- He cares about you more than all those fancy songs and food, but that is YOUR culture, so by extension he kinda has to care even if it's just a little bit
🏀- Asks you to speak Spanish and if you can't, he'll make fun of you for it and tease you by telling you to go learn a thing or two from Reiji
Laito
🃏- Lorddddddd
🃏- LORDDDDDD
🃏- Well before I start, let me just say that he's also educated on the culture just maybe not as much as Reiji, so anything he does is a means to tease you by playing coy and outright stupid
🃏- Just also would like to add, if you're from Brazil and happen to have a curvy body, he WILL comment on that
🃏- If you have a flatter body type, he'll tease (annoy) you by asking how come you don't have more uh curves in certain areas because that's supposed to be what you're "known for"
🃏- Trust me, he's only saying this to get a reaction, he loves you in his own weird fucked up way
🃏- But expect a lot of comments like that and at some point you'll probably need to tell him off
🃏- Midnight salsa dancing because well, do you honestly expect anything else from him?
🃏- One of his favourite things to do is watch those cliche over dramatic Spanish dramas and eats it up every single time there turns out to be a twin brother
Kanato Sakamaki
🧸- Like Ayato, doesn't care that much about the culture, rather his main focus is on you
🧸- Probably likes to hear you tell scary folklore stories from wherever you're from
🧸- And on that note, he already knows about La Lloronoa and Sihuanaba
🧸- Makes Teddy™ cover his ears when you get to the scary parts
🧸- Comments on how he'd still love you as a vengeful ghost and might even prefer it that way
🧸- Like Laito, he has this preconceived notion that you're meant to be curvy but doesn't care if you aren't
🧸- Besides if he only liked you for your body, he'd kill you and preserve you somewhere, hiding you away from the rest of the world where only he could see you. But he'd never do that riiiiiiight?
Subaru Sakamaki
🥀- Learns how to salsa when no one is around so he could impress you one day
🥀- Like Laito, he also watches those cliche Spanish soap operas but pretends he doesn't like them and think they're overrated (He's on the second season of Monarca)
🥀- Secretly interested in the culture and would ask Reiji for some books so he could learn more
🥀- Doesn't want to seem dumb in front of you but also doesn't want make a fool of himself by saying words he doesn't understand or asking dumb questions
🥀- If you speak Portuguese or Spanish, likes hearing you talk in your native tongue
🥀- Out of all the brothers, he'd be the one to treat you the most "normally" by not pestering you with questions or flaunting you off like a trophy he just won
🥀- You try to teach him your native language so you could both shit talk his brothers right in front their faces
From Author: It has been so long since I opened this app omfg but I've been busy with a lot of irl things so now I should have a bit more time to produce more content yay (I'm this close to jumping off a bridge with how dead the fandom is rn)

I swear I’m not a violent person, but if I see another fancast of Evelyn Hugo where they suggest a non-cuban/non-latina actress, I may slap someone – like the person who did the fancast.
I don’t think some people understand how important it is that a book so freaking popular, has a Cuban bisexual woman as the lead; and how low-key racist is that fact that they are trying to erase that an putting a white woman in her place.
The book clearly indicates several times that she is Cuban, that she has dark hair (dyed blonde), and that although she isn’t dark skinned she isn’t white passing either – hence the blonde dye.
And yet… all the fancast I see on social media are of white american actresses without any type of Cuban or Latin descent. I have even seen Taylor Swift of all people; and I say this a big swiftie, but Taylor isn’t an actress. A music icon, yes; an actress, no. And more importantly, she isn’t Cuban! (Not to mention the amount of Taylor Swift content under the Evelyn Hugo tags.)
What bothers me the most is that before Taylor Zakhar Perez was officially cast as Alex Claremont-Diaz, I saw the same behavior. People fan casted actors that weren’t Mexican or latinos, and they got defensive when you called them out on it.
Latinos, especially queer Latinos, are so underrepresented in big and popular productions… You doing fancasts where you erase the ethnicity of the character, are part of this same problem.

It's also funny that in Victoria 2, if you play as a developing nation outside of the great powers (say, Argentina) and if you implement liberal laissez faire economics, your economy goes to absolute shit. The only good way to play Victoria 2 is with state capitalism or a command economy, because otherwise the invisible hand of the market screws you.
If the Liberals get in charge of Argentina, it ruins the country for generations. 10/10 excellent realism.
#cosas mias#there is no real representation in either Vic2 or 3 about the conservative-liberal-nationalist-progressive generation of 80'#which were a bunch of racist conservative oligarch authoritarians who also wanted to develop the country in their version of liberalism#there is something similar in Vic3 with Brazil but it was a phenomenon in all Latin America#the eurocentric oligarchy who wanted Progress but by imposing capitalist liberalist ideals and supressing democracy and socialism#and also lots of racism. lots of it.

The Need for True Representation During Latine Heritage Month
Authentic representation matters. It helps marginalized voices feel seen, valued, and empowered. Let’s keep pushing for diverse stories in media and literature! #RepresentationMatters #LatineVoices #DiverseStories #HaveACupOfJohanny
I have to admit, I’m running on fumes right now—tired, grumpy, and struggling to get my words together, but I felt the need to talk about this: Latine Heritage Month is here, and I couldn’t be more excited. This is our time to highlight our stories, but the truth is, we don’t always feel it the way we should. Why? Because we’re still grappling with divisions within our own community. Facing the…
