AITA for asking my mom to stop singing?
okay so a couple months back i (a uni student) moved out of my old apartment and back in with my parents while i try to find a new one. the only issue is, since i first moved away, my parents had moved into a smaller house than they had when me and my siblings were growing up. they now have their bedroom and my dad's study, but no additional bed or guest rooms. for this reason, i have been sleeping on their living room couch.
my mom also doesn't have a room of her own, so her laptop is also in the living room, as is mine. so basically the living room is our shared domain for the time we spend at home. i have class and friends to spend time with, so i'm away relatively frequently (though i'm on winter break now of course), while my mom is retired and is at home basically 95% of the time year-round.
me and my mom both listen to music a lot and our tastes do not overlap basically at all. i listen mostly to indie, folk, rock, the kind of stuff white queer kids love, while my mom's music is almost entirely soulful christian pop about big j and stuff.
up until recently, my mom didn't wear headphones. she'd play music directly from her laptop speakers. this obviously bothered me somewhat, but i hadn't said anything about it. recently (i.e. a couple weeks ago) i asked her if she'd consider starting to wear headphones, which she has for the most part, though sometimes she forgets. i just kinda let her do whatever if she does, i haven't mentioned it again since.
so that's the first time i asked my mom to be quieter, and i don't think i'm an asshole for that. my worry is about the second time. you see, over the last week, she's taken to singing along to her tunes. maybe she did that before and i just didn't notice over the actual song itself? anyway, i can definitely hear it now.
and of course it's not the best musical performance, it's a lady with little singing experience belting along to her favourite songs, but it's not really about the quality of the singing. i don't like the music she likes and would prefer not to listen to it, is all.
today, whilst she was singing, i gently asked her: "could you stop singing?" i didn't mean forever, just in that moment. i really tried to say it in a nice way, and i don't think i sounded particularly rude? it should be noted, though, that my parents do seem to think of me as some kind of sensitive sally intent on criticizing every little thing they do. that feeling does kind of go both ways, but i admit sometimes i can be harsh on my mom, because she can be overbearing and a bit neurotic, and i don't really get to have the space i wish i could, especially not now when i'm living with them.
anyway, so i ask: "could you stop singing?" and my mom says something like "okay- well, i would prefer not to." the way she said it really made it sound like i had hurt her feelings. so i said, "okay. that's alright. you can sing." she stopped singing and has been sort of running around for the last 10 minutes or so restlessly doing random things.
my parents are that kind of people who are really really deep in "politeness" and genuinely baffle me since i'm autistic (like, a couple of days ago we had some leftover cake, and my dad straight up forced me to take half of what was left over even though i said i didn't want it. i still don't really know why?) so i'm sure even though i said "okay, nevermind then," my mom didn't believe me.
while she was running around doing random things, i told her, "sorry if i hurt your feelings." and she said, "oh, it's nothing." i genuinely don't know if i'm in the wrong here. i feel like, on the one hand, this is a space we have to share, and i should have the right to ask her not to make noise (i always wear headphones and never sing along to music or vc with friends when my parents are around), but on the other hand, it's her house, and she should have the right to sing in it, right? i don't know.
TL;DR: i asked my mom to stop singing in the only space for our computers in the house and i'm pretty sure it upset her. AITA?
What are these acronyms?

lost in japan (d.s)
you're getting ready for bed in your small apartment, which for you, meant going back and forth between cleaning, working on lesson plans, and watching TV for hours on a friday night since you didn't have to be up early the next morning. typically, you'd be up quite late after a long week of teaching english to japanese students every day.
you love your job, truly, teaching and travel were your passion, and this opportunity has been amazing- but that didn't necessarily mean you couldn't get a little burnt out. you're homesick, more than anything. you miss your family and friends back home in north carolina, not to mention the beaches, and the sort of small town vibe that was nowhere to be found in tokyo.
you're just finishing up doing some dishes when your phone rings, and you're quick to dry off your hands and pick it up, furrowing your brow in confusion at the contact that's popped up. drew was busy, he was always busy, but you had been missing him, too. "hey, drew." you answer with a smile, quickly turning down the volume on the tv.
"hey! y/n, how's it going?" he asks, unbeknownst to you, chewing on his nails as he sits in an airport in another country.
"i'm well..." you answer, tilting your head a little bit. you're happy to hear his voice, of course, but still surprised. "what about you? how's filming?"
"it's good! i've got a bit of a break for the next couple weeks." drew answers, bouncing his leg and looking around the crowded room.
"that's good! you deserve a break." you smile, sitting down on your bed now. "what did i do to warrant the pleasure of a call?"
you talk to drew often, of course, being good friends since you met in university. you both had overlapping english classes and instantly clicked, and were luckily able to maintain contact even after he "made it big". he insists he would never forget about you, despite you joking about it regularly.
"well i was thinking, since i've got this break, maybe i could come visit you for a week or so." drew answers nervously. "i did want to surprise you, but i realize i don't know where exactly you live and tokyo is a big city so you might be hard to find." he rambles on a bit, waiting anxiously on your response.
"oh! uhm.." you reply, completely caught off-guard by his suggestion. you'd love to have him, but as you look around your small studio apartment, you're not sure there's room for company. not to mention, it would be a little embarrassing. you try to stay on top of cleaning, but it's hard to organize with little space.
"it's okay if you don't want me to come! god, i- i'm sorry, y/n, i shouldn't have thrown this on you so suddenly-" drew quickly backtracks, shaking his head at his own stupidity. of course he should have given you a bigger heads up.
"no! of course i want you to come!" you're quick to ease his mind as you sit up in excitement. "my apartment is just a little... tight, that's all. i was just thinking of where you would sleep. but of course, you're always welcome. when were you thinking of coming? i just need to organize a bit."
"well..." drew chuckles a little nervously. "do you have any plans tonight? i'm kind of already at the airport. i just couldn't get you off my mind today, decided to just go for it and hope you're okay with a guest."
you freeze up a little, in a bit of shock as you blush. he was thinking about you? "oh! uh, yeah! i can meet you at the airport. what time do you leave? what time do you land?" you ask, standing up and looking towards your closet. you're getting ahead of yourself- it will obviously be a long flight, but now you're nervous. you've always had a bit of a crush on him, which was kind of an understatement.
"you don't have to do that." drew instantly protests. "i think i'll land around two-thirty tokyo time. i'll just take a cab, if you can send me your address and be up to let me in?"
"nonsense, drew, of course i'll come meet you." you giggle, already shuffling through your clothes as you look at your alarm clock. it's only eight, so you can try and get some sleep before you have to go. "i've got no classes until monday, i'll have a quick nap and meet you at the airport at two-thirty."
"sweet! that'd be awesome." drew replies, smiling to himself. he's so excited to see you, more and more recently he's been thinking about you. truly missing you, and he figured he'd take a leap of faith and come visit- especially since he knows you've been lonely. maybe, he thinks, he'll even be able to tell you how he feels. how he's always felt, and he'll be leaving japan finally able to call you his girlfriend. "so, uh, i guess i'll see you tonight, then?"
"see you tonight." you agree, absolutely giddy with excitement. "have a safe flight!" you quickly add in, almost forgetting your manners with the flood of adrenaline in your system.
"thanks, y/n/n. see you in a bit!" drew smiles, hanging up. perfect timing, too, they're about to start boarding.
you stand at the almost empty arrivals area of the tokyo international airport, anxiously watching the escalator and waiting to see drew after months apart. you had put on some of your nicest casual clothes, not wanting to look overdressed, but not like a mess either. after all, you had six hours to plan the outfit, considering you couldn't sleep for even a minute.
you look down at your phone again, checking the time for what must be the hundredth time since you left the apartment. two fifty-three. his flight landed on time, according to the screen on the wall, so he should be walking out any minute. you get a pit in your stomach, you're so nervous.
drew has the same feeling as he tries to blindly follow the other people who got off his flight, unable to read any of the signs directing passengers to arrivals and baggage claim. it's a long walk in a big airport, but it feels a million times longer since he's anxious to get to you. he comes to the escalator, seeing a few people waiting at the bottom, his eyes scanning for you, who he quickly finds. he feels his heart rate increase and he smiles, adjusting his bag in his grip, already feeling his hands getting sweaty. that's when you notice him too.
you smile wide, giving him an excited wave. you're practically shaking with excitement, or nerves, but you're just happy to not be so alone anymore. he gets to the bottom and gets off, quickly making his way over to you, you cringe a little when he drops his bags and opens his arms for a hug, you really wanted to hug him, of course, but culturally you know you'll get stares and disapproving looks. "hey!" you grin, immediately reaching out and blocking his arms. he furrows his brows in confusion, his eyes flashing with disappointment.
"sorry." you chuckle, awkwardly moving his arms back to his sides. "it's kind of rude to hug in public." you explain, looking around and hoping no one is offended. luckily only a couple people noticed, and they avert their eyes when they see you correcting him.
"oh, uh, i didn't know that. sorry.." drew blushes, avoiding your eyes for a moment.
"you're fine." you insist, trying to cheer him up. "i missed you, i'm glad you're here."
"i missed you too." drew replies, smile returning to his cheeks now. he doubts it will leave the whole time he's here.
"uh, do you have bags?" you ask him, gesturing toward the baggage carousel.
"nope, carry on only." he says proudly, lifting his bag off the ground and throwing his backpack over his shoulder.
"oh, perfect! then we get first dibs on a cab. follow me." you smile, turning and walking towards the exit. god, you hate making small talk, but the silence in the quiet airport is killing you.
"so, how's work?" drew asks, trying to hide the nervousness in his tone. he hasn't seen you in person in close to a year, and even then you were both so busy you had to squeeze in coffee on a lunch break when he happened to be filming close to home.
"it's good! i really love it." you nod, glancing back at him as you guys step outside. "the kids are all so sweet. it's a great opportunity."
"that's awesome. it sounds like fun." drew nods, looking around to try and get a bearing on his surroundings. it's humid out, but not hot.
"it is, yeah." you say. "one sec, i think this one is free-" he watches as you wrap your sweater tighter around yourself, walking up to a cab and waving to the driver as he unlocks the doors. you turn and wave for him to join you, and he walks up and opens the door for you, letting you in first.
you say something to the driver in japanese, drew assumes you're telling him your address, and quickly after that you guys are moving.
you don't talk much on the drive, again, it's polite to stay quiet, so when you do you only whisper. it's about a half hour drive to your apartment, and you get out, looking up at the familiar building quickly before thanking the driver and paying him.
"i can pay you back, how much was it?" drew says as you fumble with your keys.
"seven-thousand yen." you answer, giggling and looking up at him as you push the door open, knowing that means absolutely nothing to him.
"uh, in usd?" drew chuckles, following you in.
"don't worry about it." you giggle and lead him up the stairs to the third floor where your room is.
"it's really small-" you pause before you open the door. "and a bit of a mess so i'm sorry, we can find you a hotel tomorrow it was just a bit short notice."
"i don't care." drew shakes his head, smiling down at you. "we just get to spend more quality time together, hey? it's fine."
"okay bigshot, suit yourself." you chuckle, shaking your head as you open the door. you both shuffle in and you try to get out of his way so he can put his stuff down, and the second he drops it on the floor his arms are around you.
you freeze for a moment before hugging him back, leaning your head on his chest. "i've been thinking about this for months.." he mutters, taking in the scent of your hair, your skin, just you.
"me too." you whisper back, gently rubbing his back.
"no, like- you don't understand." he says, pulling away only a little to look down at you. "i- shit." he chuckles, shaking his head slightly in embarrassment. "i've really missed you. i think about you all the time, the best part of my week is when i get the chance to call you."
“me too.” you repeat yourself, blushing a little as you don’t know what else to say.
“well, come on, no, you’re living your dream out here.” drew laughs, gesturing around you only to return his hand to your back.
“so are you.” you raise your eyebrow at him and he shrugs.
“yeah, well, not really. my dream isn’t complete without you.” he bites the bullet, hoping you’ll understand what he’s saying. he chews a little on his bottom lip as he locks eyes with you, scanning them to get some kind of grasp on what you were thinking, or feeling.
your cheeks burn furiously as you briefly look down, unsure really what to say. “well… me too.” you giggle, laughing at having to say the same thing again.
a small smile flickers on drew’s lips and he reaches his hand up, hesitating to place it on your cheek and gently lifting your jaw to meet his eyes again. he hears his heart beating in his chest, and so do you, as he very slowly at first leans in. his lips meet yours so gently it’s like he’s scared he’ll break you, making you smile against his lips as you kiss him back. almost so much that it makes the task at hand impossible.
“i’ve been wanting you to do that for years.” you admit, staring into his blue eyes as you pull away only about an inch.
his forehead stays pressed against yours as he smiles, his breath tickling your lips as he speaks. “that sucks, because i’ve wanted to do that for years. you should’ve said something, y/n/n.”
it’s safe to assume now that you won’t be needing the bed you made for yourself on the floor.

First scene // Last goodbye
The first and last times we see Ol’ Cobb. 200 years apart.
(Aka I got an idea about first scene vs last scene and that very common gif set and did it to the best of my ability with an audio-only medium).
transcript under the cut
Murph: This guy is an old, kind of grizzled, Crick hunter, and it’s not that he’s not hospitable, it’s just that he’s a little bit more serious. So, you go to do the handshake, and he’s kinda just a couple steps behind you, like moving real slow.
Cobb (Murph): Uh, hi, how you doin’ Moonshine? It’s been a while since -
Caldwell, overlapping: Oh, dang.
Cobb, continuing: - I’ve seen you.
Moonshine (Emily): Yeah, what’s your name? It escapes me right now. I saw your face, though, that didn’t escape me.
Caldwell chuckles over the words.
Cobb: You know me, I’m Ol’ Cobb.
Caldwell laughs again.
Moonshine: Ol’ Cobb! Well get the heck out! What sort of croc you catch to get here?
Caldwell laughs again.
Cobb: You know, somethin’ ain’t right at the Crick.
Moonshine: Yeah.
Cobb: So I came here to make things right.
Moonshine: What you hunt - Who’s tastin’ the - Who’s tasting the fruits of that blunderbus?
Murph: He pulls out a wanted poster of The Widow, and he says
Cobb: I tracked The Widow to Galaderon. If I find her, that’s 10,000 gold pieces for Ol’ Cobb.
There is a break in the audio for a beat. When the next clip begins, the song “The Kingshammer” is playing under the words.
Cobb: Gruumsh’s guys saw me run up here. I’m gonna take ‘em as far as my old legs can run. But you - you’ve gotta stay here, alright.
Hardwon (Jake), attempting to interrupt: Cobb! Cobb, come on! No!
Murph: Uh, he keeps talking through you.
Cobb: Now, don’t go blamin’ yourself. I know you’re gonna blame yourself. But -
Hardwon, quietly to himself: Oh, fuck.
Cobb: I ain’t doin’ you a favor, alright?
Hardwon, still trying to interrupt: Uh, Cobb.
Cobb: You’re doin’ me one.
Hardwon: Let me die, Cobb.
Cobb: Let this old man leave the world knowin’ that the kids are gonna be alright.
Hardwon, louder: No! The world’s better with you in it than me, Cobb! What’re you doin’?
Cobb: Look after Moonshine and Bev for me, yeah?
Murph: You see he begins to walk, ahead of the other spirits, and turns back.
Cobb: Or, better yet, you tell Moonshine and Bev to look after you, dumbass. [Murph laughs loudly, in character as Cobb].
Jake: Hardwon laughs and sobs.
Cobb: Keep it light.
Murph: You see Cobb charges into battle, a ghostly reflection of his last stand.

@anaalnathrakhs encouraged me to post this a while ago so i’ll deliver…
the crüe if they were a kpop band
(warning: LONG POST AHEAD!! you’re in for a long ass yap session…)
ok, some (most) of you probably aren’t that into kpop like i am (yes, i like both kpop and rock, weird combo, i know), so i’ll introduce you to just some basic facts before we begin…
1. kpop groups can comprise of 4 member groups to 13 member groups (and probably more than that tbh)
2. there are a couple of positions that are integral to comprising a kpop band…i’ll run over those real quick.
main vocalist: the person who sings most of the song (this can be more than one person) they’re also the most technically gifted and can hit real high notes.
lead vocalist: the second best singer, usually sings before the main vocalist does (like they’ll sing a line or verse before the main does) also sometimes sings the chorus.
sub vocalist: supports the main and lead vocalist and has little lines. not as good as the lead and main vocalist
the same can be applied to the rappers, they also have a main, lead and sub rapper line.
the dance line is more simplified. everyone in a kpop group dances, but for the best dancers there’s a
1. main: the best of the group, gets solo dances/parts
and
2. lead: the second best, usually dances in the front in performances.
(btw, there can be more than one main/lead dancer)
there are other positions that aren’t as important to the music aspect, they are:
visual: basically just the most attractive member of the band…yes this is a position.
face of the group: these are the members that are the most popular. you might know the band because of this person. this can also be the visual, and it does overlap at times. this can be the person who usually goes to a lot of variety shows, or the person who trends because of a meme or funny moment. it’s just the most well known member, and it does change a lot depending on all these factors.
maknae: maknae translates roughly to “youngest person.” (it actually translates to “younger sibling” but) the youngest person in a room is the maknae of said group of people. for some reason, maknaes are seen as being shy and cute (weird tbh) but the ones that aren’t become popular for being an “evil maknae.” (basically just opposite of the stereotype).
the center: the center is pretty much the person who’s always put in the middle of the group during promotions (photos, dances, etc.). this can be due to their beauty, or their dance talent, or popularity. this is also subject to change.
some other terms i think i’ll be using:
trainee: a person who trains to be able to debut in a group
aegyo: pretty much a cute act or gesture. if someone were to ask you to do aegyo they’d pretty much be telling you to be cute/do something cute
v live: like insta live but for kpop idols. can be a bit big budget when it comes to album showcases (promotion for upcoming albums)
golden maknae: the youngest member who’s talented in more than one thing (rapping, singing, dancing, etc.). (other members talented in more than one thing are called aces)
ending fairy: at the end of a performance at shows like music bank, the camera will cut to a member and they either stare at the camera and look hot or they do something rememberable, like a wink or aegyo. sometimes bands will make fun of the ending fairy and do a gag that will end up going viral.
sasaengs: stalker fans…like hardcore. i’m talking breaking into your hotel room type stalker fans. no not only that, giving you orange juice laced with glue type stalker fans (don’t ask you don’t want to know).
ok we got all that? good, let’s start this thing!
vince
ok i think it’s pretty obvious what he is
main vocalist: self explanatory
vocals would get praised for how high he can actually go
visual: reasonably he’s the most conventionally attractive (but if it were up to me i would have made the visual mick) plus his blonde hair stands out against everyone else’s dark hair so thats an advantage for him in this situation
lead dancer: he does alot of dancing on stage tbh so i think he’d be a lead dancer
he’s not the face of the group, although most ppl think he is (which he loves ofc)
would be on v live doing absolutely nothing. would probably do a mukbang to show he’s not entirely vain
would do a skin care routine live on air only to get told off by nikki
the member that gets tired the most. rehearsals are terrible when he’s already a bit sleepy
downright refuses to do aegyo. nothings going to make him do it. is a buzzkill on variety shows
was the trainee everyone thought would never debut because of how lazy he was
usually gets to do ending fairies and uses them as an opportunity to look hot.
fans regard him as the pretty one and the running gags are about how vain he is
representative colour is pink
tommy
sub vocalist: i’ve heard him sing and he ain’t that bad ngl, doesn’t sing much though because…
main rapper: sorry guys he’s a rapper in this one. haven’t heard him rap before but he gives rapper vibes at times so let me have this one. (personal note: if i had to imagine his rap style i’d probably compare him to j-hope of bts…you don’t have to know who that is dw)
main dancer: yep, this one has evidence. when tommy was younger he took dance lessons with his sister, so i’ll use that to justify this. tommy and vince would have dance solo performances at the big award shows (mama, mma, inkigayo year end awards) and it would totally go viral.
maknae: he’s also the youngest so he’d be the maknae…he’d also be the golden maknae because of the many positions he has.
i think he’d also be the center due to this (at least during certain promotion periods)
the funny one, he has a lot of “tommy being hilarious for seven minutes” type of youtube compilations made of him (some of them go viral)
great at aegyo but doesn’t do it a lot (it takes a lot of convincing)
has been the face of the group at least once (during top era)
literally does not care about his image, will go on v live in his blinged out speedo and almost get the band banned from the app
gets in dating scandal with heather locklear
his photo cards always look terrible (he makes stupid faces when taking the photo)
almost got kicked out of his company as a trainee because he threw a fire extinguisher out the 13th floor window when frustrated. added to his constantly updating bill
will do aegyo for an ending fairy to go viral (gets compilations made of it on yt)
fans think of his as the energizer of the band. constantly all over the place and making sure the band keeps the good vibes up
i think he’d also be the one helping the band learn new dances, and he’d be a bit strict about everyone being absolutely perfect
representative colour is blue
nikki
leader of the band
sub rapper: he can hold a rhyme that’s for sure. they don’t give him too many lines
sub vocalist: also not the best singer, but can sustain a note and that’s all that matters
face of the group: because he’s the leader, he mainly speaks for the band. ppl get used to seeing him on every variety show.
the only thing he’s great at is running away from sasaengs (too harsh sorry.)
got clowned a lot as a trainee because of how quote unquote untalented he was
hates aegyo, never does it seriously
says real crazy shit during variety shows, everyone loves it (goes viral for not having a filter)
has serious moments, but everyone thinks he’s a leader that lets his members get away with anything (not true) probably because he’s so laid back at times
in this scenario i feel like he would be the underrated member (because he never gets center position and he’s always in the back in performances) he’s the member that gets those #LETBLANKSING twitter campaigns (and they always trend)
everyone ships him with tommy (either that or they make those silly “stop shipping them that’s weird” comments) nikki would play it up for fan service (but he wouldn’t tell tommy)
constant yap sessions on v live
never gets to do ending fairies
everyone thinks he’s untalented but he’s the one that writes the songs and helps produce sometimes. he does try his best to give his fans the best performance so he’s always practicing, takes vocal lessons and is in the dance room 24/7
he’s the best at representing the band, and does most of the talking in interviews
representative colour is red
mick
lol don’t kill me y’all
lead vocalist: OK so i once read a comment somewhere that said mick could actually sing and he was lying about not being able to, so on that basis i’ll let him be the lead vocalist. sounds great harmonizing with vince. his voice is much softer, which actually works with vince’s louder higher tone
lead dancer: like i said i’m going off looks, this is 100% not canon to the crüe lore (so just pretend he doesn’t have as for my sake). he looks like he could actually dance, and in my headcanon he’d be just as good as tommy, although he wouldn’t get many solos only because tommy and vince usually take over that department. he is regularly in the front during performances though.
sub rapper: gets a little rap moment sometimes…everyone finds it cute cause he’s trying. (will go viral and everyone will eat up their lil meow meows one bar)
fake maknae, everyone thinks he’s the youngest (because he’s short and he’s got a cute round face…and because he seems like the shyest) is referred to as the “cute one who can dance real well” (everyone’s shocked to find out he’s the oldest)
the member known for having a 4D personality (being weird and alienlike) their fans find it cute though (becomes popular because of it)
literally the “cute one” like fans are making nicknames for him (lil meow meow, goth kitty, alien)
very mysterious and quiet, doesn’t talk much in interviews and doesn’t get invited to variety shows alone because of it
his extreme paleness makes fans joke about him never leaving his house (someone asked him if he never leaves his house once as a joke and he answered honestly)
his voice once cracked performing on a radio show once during their debut era and nobody’s let it go ever since
he’s literally the most like suga of bts (i’m sorry for bringing them up so often but they’re my favs and a lot of them remind me of the crüe boys tbh)
was extremely shy and quiet during his trainee years, to the point where the other trainees were scared of him. when he debuts in the crüe, the rest of the members are sure he’s going to be scary and mean but he turned out to just be shy and the rest of the band feels bad for judging him
DESPISES aegyo but will do it for the fans…and he’ll actually put effort into it
his ending fairies are always so funny cause he never takes them seriously (kinda like key from shinee)
literally never goes on v live by himself, he’s always getting roped into doing lives with one of the members. if he were to do a solo live, he’d literally say the most asinine things because he thinks it’s funny (either that or he’d start making up elaborate lies about himself to see if anyone believes it) (side note: that interview of mick in that house or whatever…that’s so v live broadcast coded. like maybe nikki is there with him in their dorms and their reminiscing about their pre debut era idk)
representative colour is purple
ok that’s all i have for now, i hope that was as entertaining for you as it was for me!!
(i also hope that made any bit of sense, i tried my best to explain but i get that there’s certain things that ppl won’t get, it’s totally fine…it’s a really weird headcanon tbh lol)
#crüe headcanons#most popular goes from: vince-tommy-mick-nikki#i’ve got so many other thoughts and ideas about this now#i hope you all know i’m now thinking about mick mars doing aegyo

strawberry wine
tracklist
<<play last current song play next>>
featured lyric(s): "strawberry wine and all the time we used to have. those things i miss but know are never coming back."
parental advisory: underaged drinking/smoking
it was bound to happen eventually. you frequented the same spaces, had overlaps in your friend groups and loved to be surrounded by people too much to avoid each other for too long. it was only natural that you would run into thomas again, for the first time since you broke up, at a party. you saw him from across the room; he was standing with his teammates and you were getting yourself a white claw. it was at that moment you were immensely grateful that the relationship ended on good terms. you locked eyes and smiled in acknowledgement as he nodded slightly to say hello. that was it in the moment, you were pulled away by your friends to dance and get a little drunk and he did whatever he was doing before.
you found him again a couple of hours later when your friend dragged you over to the pong table that was set up in a corner. she wanted to play (and flirt) with owen but didn’t want to go alone so you stood off to the side and watched. a couple of minutes into the game (it was going poorly, the flirting was going well) you felt someone stand beside you and turned to find thomas leaning against the wall. “hey,” you said, turning slightly away from the game to face him. “long time no see.” he replied. you nodded, unsure of what to say next. “how have you been?” he asked. “honestly really good,” you replied. “i definitely miss hanging out with you but everything else is going well. classes are good, i got the internship i applied for and my mom is coming down to visit in 2 weeks.” thomas smiled, “i’m really happy you’re happy.” he replied before asking: “do you wanna go outside for a little bit?” you nodded and agreed to meet him on the back deck after you checked in with your friend and grabbed a drink for each of you.
when you finally made it outside, thomas was sitting on a chair in the corner, a blunt in his hand. you smiled when you saw it, memories flooding through your mind. “what are you smiling about?” thomas called from across the deck, snapping you back to the present. “that time you showed up at my door high out of your mind.” you said, laughing as you handed him his drink and sat down. “you wanted me to make you brownies so bad it was hilarious.” thomas laughed with you. “oh yeah, i dragged you back to the house and sat on the counter as you made them.” you nodded, “and you didn’t shut up all night about how you remembered to leave the eggs and butter out. you told everyone who walked in.” thomas laughed. “it was something to be proud of!” he defended, “you can’t say i’m wrong.” you raised your hands in defeat “yeah, you’re right. it definitely was something to be proud of.” the two of you then sat in silence for a little while, sipping your drinks and watching the people around you.

i have a question for other people out there who may be like me and have a taste in music that is confusing, weirdly specific, random, inconsistent, and really hard to explain to other people; HOW do you go about finding new music? do you have a method that's successful most of the time? or do you, like me, just keep desperately listening to playlist after playlist and album after album and hoping to get lucky by finding a song or two?
when people try to give me recs they ask me what genres i like and i just say "nothings off limits" but it's not in a "i'll listen to anything" kinda way, it's that there's just something about certain songs that makes my brain go "YES" and every genre has the potential to have some songs that scratch that itch. pretty sure genre actually has little to no bearing on what i like.
there's a few specific genres i end up listening to quite a bit more than other genres but i don't think that's cause there's actually anything "special" about them for me, i think it's just kinda incidental and a result of how spotify will be like "oh you liked a few songs from this one specific genre?? so it's your favorite genre???? you want to hear nothing but songs from this genre for the rest of time????" and so the vast majority of my recs on spotify are just from these few genres and i've just fallen into a loop of them. i don't even end up liking the vast majority of songs that get recommended to me anyway, and whenever i go to ANY genre-specific playlist i only end up liking a couple, if even that many. so yeah it doesn’t seem like genre matters at all.
i think it's more about the rhythm/melody/vibe of a song (and maybe it could have something to do with the bpm of a song but idk) but there still doesn't appear to be much consistency for me. like spotify has the playlists that are like "chill mix"/"energetic mix"/"moody mix"/etc. and it's the same as when i listen to a genre mix. i CAN find songs i like in any mix but i'll still maybe only like 1 song for every 25 i listen to. and it's also the same with artists and albums in general.
like basically i think the problem boils down to how there's no way to label my taste. like there's no key words or phrases for me to use to tell people or search engines what i'm looking for.
my best bet is just showing people the songs i like, and seeing if they can hear some kind of pattern, and can give me recs based on that. this is what i do with my sister, cause she's also kinda the same, having an inconsistent and indefinable taste in music, and the things we like overlap a little so i tend to get good recs from her, but that's obviously also dependent on her being able to find new songs, which doesn't happen a lot.
i don't usually have the ability to just ask someone who kinda understands my taste to give me recs, and when i do there's no guarantee they'll even have any, and i wanna find a way to be able to search for new music on my own.
#music recs#song recs#c#recently i've tried searching ‘songs that scratch an itch in my brain’ and going through the user-made playlists#but i haven't had any success that way so far.#and whenever i go to a song or artist radio for something#spotify just ends up filling it mostly with a bunch of songs that are already in my library#the daylist at least has new songs i haven't heard before#but it's still rare when i find things i like through it.#i've realized that spotify generated playlists are gonna be a dead end most of the time.#my discover weekly is where i end up finding the most new stuff i like but it's still not a lot.#music

hello! what are the main things that you suggest learning first when tackling norwegian? and some habits that i can pick up early so that i don’t struggle when trying to advance?
i’m a complete beginner and the only way i’ve learned another language was when i was too little to remember. when i know a little more norwegian than just the bare bones i think i’ll test my hand at transcribing stuff from children’s shows but until then i’m unsure of how to structure the beginning stages of learning for myself.
Hi there!
Firstly, yay for starting out on your Norwegian-learning journey! It's a beautiful language and I hope you enjoy the world it opens up for you.
As for what to learn first: alphabet is the best place to start so you're familiar with the sounds and can match them more-or-less to the words you're reading. You don't have to start speaking right away (I certainly didn't lmao I was B1/B2 level in all my other skills before I even really touched speaking) but you should be able to understand what the words you're learning sound like.
Other things to learn are verbs in all their forms. Norwegian doesn't have a lot of tenses and they mostly overlap with English in how they're used, so you can start using past tense/present perfect/imperative very early on. Here's a post I made about it on my old blog.
About the most complicated grammar you'll come across at beginner level is possessive pronouns and definite articles. If you've got a solid grip on those and verb forms then all you really need to do is learn vocabulary and you'll be able to say a lot!
Other than that, just try to learn the most common words. Here's a list I made on my old blog of all the resources I've used (and some I haven't) to learn Norwegian. Check them out and see what you like! (I no longer recommend Duolingo though due to its reliance on AI and just general lack of ethics these days)
Regarding habits to pick up...
The most important habit to pick up is interacting with the language daily imo. You don't have to study every day, per se, but have the radio on as background noise or listen to at least one song or just write the date or something small. Last year @chenopodiumlang started a "no zero days 2023" challenge and honestly by the end of the year I forgot I was even doing a challenge because it's become so ingrained in me that I need to interact with each of my languages every day that I don't think about it; I just do it.
With Norwegian there's a severe lack of material for intermediate level. You'll find plenty of stuff for beginner level and maybe a couple of textbooks that go up to intermediate level, but it's not like more popular languages where there are lots of graded readers, intermediate-advanced textbooks, online exercises etc. So I recommend interacting with native media relatively early on so the transition's less intimidating. Listen to the radio often so you get used to the sound of the language and different dialects. When you hit intermediate level, it'll be just a little bit easier to start watching TV with Norwegian subtitles. Regularly browse the headlines of NRK and see if you can pick out a word or two here and there (don't worry about understanding them all, don't even worry if there are days you can't understand a single word). Eventually you can graduate to reading the first paragraph of a news article, then maybe a short article etc.
Hope that helps! Best of luck with your Norwegian-learning journey 😊 Feel free to ask any questions!

My thoughts on Harry's break part 2/2
I want to share some of my thoughts that I've kept bottled up over the past couple of years but it seems pertinent to share them now.
For those who don't know - hi, I'm Sunny. I run this blog but I also have a background in psychology. I have 2 degrees, have worked in several schools and a psychiatric hospital, and have done extensive research in multiple areas of psychology that overlap with what I'm about to outline.
Celebrities aren't my area of expertise. This is just an educated opinion.
You can read my opinion on what Harry's been up to here. I outlined it like that because I wanted to show that Harry's been on the move for a reallllly long time. He keeps busy and busy and while although I think a break is necessary, I don't think it's as simple as that.
Love On Tour consisted of 2 eras - Fine Line and Harry's House - mashed into about 5 years. I think the emotional ending to Love On Tour was partially due to Harry finally saying goodbye to these eras. It was probably mentally exhausting for him to cope with that. In my opinion, the song he composed for the last show wasn't a goodbye song but rather a thank you song to express what words cannot (I often say Harry isn't very good at words). So I think he wanted to express himself via song to end a very good and emotional time in his life.
This was also only Harry's SECOND world tour. I know it felt like a lifetime but he only did Love On Tour and Live On Tour. So when he says it was the time of his life and he'll never forget it, that's because it was LITERALLY HIS SECOND SOLO TOUR. Both his tours were great but I'm sure this one was probably more enjoyable for him. He seemed to fall into a groove and grew in popularity and success. He was selling out stadiums and I think he realized he was creating something incredibly good - such as the good part of the fandom that came together like a family. I think he felt loved and appreciated.
Piggy-backing off of that into more of a psychological route, there's a lot that happens when an artist is on tour. They're surrounded by people 24/7. They have people telling them every day how much they love them. They are also doing something that they love to do. Harry specifically said performing is his favorite thing in the world to do.
youtube
So when the lights go down and the tour ends and the artist goes home, it's probably quiet. It's something we struggle to relate to. There are no more people around. There's no more of that extreme love. There's a pause in doing something really enjoyable.
I suspect it's depressing and maybe even a little bit scary. I don't think Harry likes being alone. I think he likes to be busy, even though I think a break will do him good. I just hope he has a good support system. A lot of artists struggle with the in-between time. I won't go into details but I've always worried a little bit about it.
With all that being said, I think it was just plain old emotionally hard for Harry to leave that stage. I think he longs to go back even though it was tiring because sometimes staying busy is better than being left alone to your own thoughts. So I think we're seeing a lot of that aftermath.
Now idk if Harry is going to be taking an extended break. He COULD be but I really just think it was an emotional end for him. I don't think he's retiring or will be gone for a suuuuper long time. I'm also not sure what his Marvel plans look like but I just can't see him putting music on the back burner. He said over and over on LOT that music is his favorite part of his job. Rumors of his retirement have been circulating for months.
This was a pretty long post to explain something but I think it's a complicated subject and people are taking it in multiple extremes. It's also hard to have a convo on Tumblr lmao I prefer in-person but obviously that's not possible (how fun would that be though LMAO)

Conner “The Creature” Alzanar
Roles: Member of The Council - Head of Translations - The Disciples right hand
(He/Him)
Patron Deities: Time, Earth, Music
Creature, unlike the other members of the Council, has a very simple title. It derives from people seeing him as some other abhorred thing. His reputation for efficiency and brutality in a fight proceeds him, and those who hear of him are terrified of the unnatural Creature one day crossing their path. To them, the name is fitting. What else could commit something so heinous if not a feral Creature?
Fortunately for Creature, that is not the only origin for the title. In fact, he was called Creature before he was even a part of The Council. His twin sister and close friends affectionately dubbed him Creature in his younger years because of his animalistic qualities and his tendency to behave a little strangely and in a bit of a silly way. This is also why Creature is more commonly referred to as his title, unlike the other members of The Council.
Likes:
Sugar Cane
Onions
Deacon (his horse)
Plants and the forest
Music and dance
Dislikes:
Rat meat
Donkeys (weird version of horses)
Having to learn how to read
Physical description:
6′8
Built, but lean. Legs and thighs more built than upper body. Creature is built for dexterity and to move quickly and with efficiency. Little focus on strength since he is already abnormally strong. All of his muscles come from experience, not working out. Picture something slightly more akin to a viking build than a body builder. Strong arms, strong thighs, a little bit of weight in the stomach. Not overly muscly anywhere.
Sharp jaw, strong brow, many freckles, looks pissed all the time (not on purpose, his face is just like that). His pupils are constantly slightly slitted, an indication that he is something other. As he is higher in ranking, Creature has many traditional facial and ear piercings.
symmetrical eyebrow piercings
septum
symmetrical nostril
snake bites
Dhalia Bites
Bridge
Industrial
Triple lobe
helix, mid helix and forward helix
auricle
The jewelry he wears in these piercings is swapped out depending on the occasion. When in formal, traditional settings, he wears longer, looser, and more obvious jewelry (including the chain that connects from either lobe to his septum) to better define his rank. In a casual setting, he prefers to wear more spikes and long earrings. In the field, he keeps it to studs to reduce the chance of them being pulled out of his face during a fight (even though it is unlikely in the first place, considering the mask he wears that covers his whole face).
Covered in scars, mostly along his torso. Some of note are:
A large bite mark along the left side of his body. From a fight with a monster that grabbed him in its mouth and swung him around.
A large, 3 clawed scratch mark along his right thigh. Also from a fight with a monster.
Lashes along his lower back from chains when he was younger.
A small nick in his right ear along his helix
A sizable burn mark on his left bicep from an opposing Hunters magic
A puncture wound underneath his jaw, bottom of his tongue and on his right hand from a knife.
Another stab wound right above his left hip
Surgery scars along his ribcage after multiple of his ribs were broken
A brand between his shoulder blades, old and with a couple of newer scars overlapping it
Fun fact: Despite being the head of translations, Creature cannot read or write in many of the languages that he speaks. He learns, mostly, from being able to hear the language, and since he is “so busy” often doesn’t bother learning how to read or write in it. This has lead to many people he has spoken with throughout the years believing that he is illiterate despite his abilities to speak their language. Most people believe he cannot read or write in his native tongues either, despite that not being true.
Want to get a general feel of his vibe? Here are a couple songs from his playlist to get started:
Through Me (The Flood) - Hozier
Cowboy Dan - Modest Mouse
You want it Darker - Leonard Cohen
Call me Little Sunshine - Ghost
Want something a bit more detailed (or see some slight spoilers)? Or just want to keep up with updates on his character profile?
Check it out here --> Conner “The Creature” Alzanar

I woke up a couple hours before my alarm this reason for absolutely no reason and ended up contemplating, what else, story things and writing things.
(I have a one track mind. The only song it knows is "Writing?")
I've been editing this current draft since my CP got me notes back in March, and then picked up the editing when I got back from Japan in April. I'm almost done, but it has been taking the vast majority of the brain space I have for writing at the moment because I'm working so intensively on fixing things.
But while I was waiting for notes back, I was at loose ends with nothing else to work on, so I drafted about 25k words of the Next Thing (Avel's book). I’m very excited for it, but I’ve reached a point where I needed to unknot some things to continue in a useful way (instead of just wasting time writing junk that will never contribute to the story and just gets cut later anyway), and I don’t have tons of capacity to unknot what I have of that book when I'm trying to unknot a completely different story with different characters in a different subgenre with a different setting about different things and, well. Yeah.
But despite that, I still mull over it occasionally without assigning tons of brain power to it, and I realized this might end up helping before I get back to it, because I’m really thinking about what things excite me about this project and thus what things to focus on and what plot choices will emphasize and show those off best. What kinds of things will actually contribute to the story arc.
Still not outlining, but brainstorming slowly because I’m not just working at it in an excited rush, and it seems to be working on. Like “hm maybe that bit should go because if I want the story to be about passion and sacrifice and what is worth doing what you love that part was going on a different tact. Or I could make that bit go like this and it could fit in better?” Etc.
YuuMori has actually been exactly what I've needed in this regard: it's a very focused story. It knew from the start what it wanted to be about and what it wanted to say about what, and it really committed to that in a very clear way very fiercely without too much meandering or wandering off in other directions.
And as I was considering that...well...doesn't that structure really reflect William, in many ways? He's so focused on his goal and his plan that he has very little time for other things, like...figuring out who he is. Obviously YuuMori is more expansive than he and really digs in and does several things at once at all times, but the focus, the goal, that reminds me of him in some ways.
Compared to something like JR, which I also love dearly, but is very slow and meandering and wanders off and discusses ten different things in one short story, it feels very different. But JR is also lead by Seigi, and Seigi's arc is learning about the world and exploring it and himself, and the exploratory meandering also suits that and the kind of story that JR is.
But I've always had a problem with pacing and meandering and never getting to the point. I don't need JR's help with that. But this draft I'm editing now is the first time I've ever gotten notes back that aren't about the f'king pacing and meandering, so even though getting there wound up with 100k words in my Scrivener trash, I have gotten better at it.
And I know it's because I spend so much time thinking about the way YuuMori does it (and talking about it).
Anyway, perhaps this overlap and break from Avel's book means I won't end up with 100k words in the trash because I'll have better focus and a better ability to execute because I've thought through options in advance.
We'll see how it goes.
Thanks for listening to this morning's writing rambles.

"Trick or treeeeeat!"
"Happy Halloween, real people~! Yay, it's finally here!!"
"And that means it's time for spiders, specters, and other spooky spooks, so get ready for your skin to--"
Uh, actually... I only had time to make the drawing. Not any spooky stuff.
"Aw..."
Yeah, sorry. Maybe next year. And besides, there's still a couple of Holidays left in the year, right?
"Yeah, I guess..."
"But seriously? Stop getting sick already! People are gonna forget I'm the main announcer!"
I'll...do my best. 😁
Anyway, let's get right down to it -- presenting "big reveal" number 62!
Nothing too fancy or deep about this pic; I was just curious to see how things looked for the four main characters in the cutesy anime Lucky Star, just before the theme song starts! 😊 If you're not familiar with it, here it is:
youtube
It took me a while to find it in English, strangely enough. 😏
Also strangely enough, the toughest part of this drawing was coloring the stage they're about to dance on. As you can see from the picture I used for reference...
The colors and shapes are a bit complex, especially with so many different overlaps, making them a bit difficult to copy (and I didn't even try to do it with 100% accuracy). I did my best to make it close, though, including the cloud shapes on the floor.
Drawing the girls was as simple as looking at them in the Lucky Star Logo (which there are two different versions of, as it turns out)...
...and some screenshots for the facial expressions of Tsukasa and Konata:
I also used Konata's fist shapes as a reference for her and Miyuki's hands. I'm very glad for the simple designs they have, which make it somewhat easier to alter their positions, expressions, etc., which is one of my favorite things to do when drawing fan art. 😊
And finally, Tsukasa's pose came from the one and only perky musician, Ibuki Mioda!
I mean, what other pose would you make when saying something like "Ngaah!"?
Unfortunately, Miyuki's hands somehow ended up a little off to the side rather than in front of her, but aside from that, I like how they all turned out! Konata, especially. She has the coolest looking hair, hands down.
So, for anyone who's ever wondered what the pre-theme song part of Lucky Star looked like, now you know! It may not be a full-on animation, but it's the closest I can get to it at the moment. 😅 (Maybe someday, though...? 🤔)
Whether you're a Lucky Star fan or not, I hope you found some enjoyment and/or charm in this gathering of an adorable group of friends! They never seem to run out of it, if you ask me. 😊

First ship: I genuinely don’t know? And now that I’m realizing I don’t know I’m actually a tiny bit sad about that. I’d started writing things that can only be described as fanfiction long before I was old enough to be online and before we evolved past dial-up in my house & being on the computer became simple enough to not feel like a hassle anyway - which is all just to say that when I did wind up interacting with fannish communities later on, fanfic specifically wasn’t something totally new to me so I never had vivid memories of my first experiences of it. As a kid fanfic was what you basically had to do when you reached the end of any media you’d even somewhat enjoyed and the author rather rudely neglected to go on telling the story infinitely - so I think it must’ve been a while before shipping became a major thing on my radar, and it probably happened gradually. I do distinctly remember finding it a little ironic in high school that so much online/tumblr specific fandom was about shipping, and I was in multiple fandoms and had several ships, but I didn’t have any big passionate (or even non-canon & in need of defending) ships for my main fandom, which was always Doctor Who - though at the time, just nuwho. There, the only things I could be said to ship were pretty straightforward pairings like the Ponds, Doctor/River, Jack/Ianto, etc. - and I’m guessing whatever things I had that counted as ships before I got into fandom were similar to those, just a kind of passing approval of/investment in ships that were already well-established elements of their source material.
Three Ships: well Two/Jamie always (connected to the above tangent, I was involved in fandom for close to a decade before I came across them, but I’d never found cause to use the term otp before then), and at the moment the other ships taking up the next-most space in my brain are probably Ben/Polly and Geordi/Data
Last Song: Ruin by the Amazing Devil (I remember it playing as I drove home last night)
Last Movie: ah see I’m actually quite bad about watching movies/even remembering they exist. There’s a real possibility the most recent one was The Final Frontier, simply because I’ve been doing a long slow chronological trek through Star Trek, and I’m currently in the early 90s so I know I must have watched that one at some point in the last year or so, and more recently than any of the ones that came out before it
Currently Reading: Ok this I’m legitimately embarrassed about, because I’m not normally anywhere near this slow with books at all, and neither of these are bad, boring, or even slow-paced, it’s solely a matter of how horribly hectic & unpredictable my life’s been for the last few months - but I’ve been both near the end of Bare-Arsed Banditti and a couple hundred pages deep into The Two Towers since the end of August (I hate that fact so much but I need to admit it. It’s available information on my Storygraph account anyway it should not be so hard to say)
Currently Consuming: Twining’s Irish Breakfast tea, black. I am often consuming twining’s irish breakfast tea black
Currently Craving: a break - or maybe just routine in general? I’ve been doing a lot of overlapping freelance work lately: short-term projects that don’t last long enough to allow for anything like ‘time off’ & have all the busy-ness of full-time without any of the stability, which kinda feels like the worst of both worlds tbh. 2022 was a rough year for me for that in general, but it got especially bad in the fall & winter and I’m hoping to get a better handle on my own schedule in the next few weeks one way or another, but I’m sorry to anyone I’ve kinda ghosted in the interim
Tagging: @uighean @terryfphanatics @seismologically-silly and anybody else who wants to do it!

it’s been a hot minute since i went on a rant tumblr style so hi everybody gather round and sit in a circle criss cross apple sauce style or don’t it’s your life you could sit handstand style or not sit at all and jog in place
did j say this was a rant? yes! but rant feels angry to me and this is just yap central /neutral Even /pos at times maybe
the insta close friends already know about how much i yearn for music back but O MY GODDDD i don’t think i realized how much of my life it took up until it was gone. literally every other residence building has a practice room with a piano EXCEPT clare, we have a study lounge which is for studying and not music and i have to trek to a different res if i want to sing or play songs??? fucked up. my phone also most definitely knows how much i want music back because it’s like. the only thing on my fyp rn and it’s maybe a little torturous because if i wasn’t a little bit of a coward that could be me in another life but shhh
also though when i say i want music back i don’t mean the way it was (senior year esp) because the people i was playing music WITH …. not very nice or very good and lowkey made me dread music which is insane and not the way it should work! (except you red40 i love you, thabk you for being not dread time) but now having a couple of months of freedom i miss it??? like sorry nerdcore nerd alert but getting harmonies right and putting a full show together and being in a theatre all day running choreo or blocking is SO FUN. the process can be frustrating but the dopamine hit after is sososo worth it. idk i just miss being onstage and backstage and in rehearsal and UGHHH it’s fine and cool that i’ll never put myself that fully into performing again :)
emo time is done i think and now i get to yap about how much i loveloveLOVE my classes rn and how much i love it when the material overlaps in diff subjects and everything i’m learning actually comes together and i get why and how things happen (shoutout clifton strengths #context) eeee and all my professors actually love the subjects they teach and they all know soo much and everyone in class (mostly) wants to actually learn about the things we learn. even my textbooks as much as i complain about the amount of readings is fun because it’s things i want to know more about and i get to read about! also the classes themselves can be so unserious and it makes uni feel just a little bit less scary!
for example i have this one class where i just learn about rocks for two hours a week and experiment with rocks for another two hours!!!! that’s so cool!!!! and because the class is aimed at ppl not in stem, there’s like no math involved which is so perfect bc. well! imm not in stem! the prof and ta are both so lovely tbh even if i am still slightly scared of them. next week is our review lab before the midterm test and the ta was like guys pls actually come review because i’m getting pizza and snacks (also to celebrate how well our lab section is doing)
like that is SO nice he didn’t have to do that but he is! and that’s the attitude of every prof, ta, don, and soph i’ve come across so far.
what else can i yap about. i think iMm done being a keyboard warrior for today and i OH MY GOD I CAN WATCH DEAD POETS SOCIETY OKAY BYEE

tuesday - wednesday
made one song sound a lot better!!
still some weirdness... but i think mostly i need to figure out something with the tone underneath, the old one now layered. just a little too,, squeaky almost? i don't know. congested too maybe. but not horrible at all.
i guess i will run through the problem songs now to re-appraise them...
oh but before i forget i looked at some new runway shows today, here's what i liked:
mm6 (margiela):
very late 00s... 07-09 especially... in that way it's also very 70s... #lol... very funny for that. i am really into all these looks though i kind of love all of them even if the one in the middle is like kind of hideous. i love those shoes, and the pants are nice, i am a little feral for those crazy ripped skinny jeans with a huge belt... love that belt. and the tight dress too... it's all good, it's all very wearable too, for margiela. not that i wouldn't wear their stuff anyways but this is i think their more ready to wear stuff, it's funny seeing the doll clothing styling returning with the huge belts, the super distressed look and weird stuff they do with the fabrics as well at the house, they always seem to get it down. they know themselves well.
yueqi qi:
this one's a little harder for me to be all in on... the weird western style boots beside the mega super frilly lacey stuff, all those lace accents overlapping, that's what i really love, the way it's intersecting with the almost fantasy sportswear thing is difficult but it's good, honestly, or at least artistically cool, it's a bit of that vetements type thing, where it's using gaudy and unsightly stuff violently, dragging stuff up from the gutters almost... but only almost, given that this is a thing now, it's just very in line with aesthetic senses... still, cute, this is a new designer i'm really excited where she goes, or i think she's knew(ish), i love love love the strange lace stuff and i think that really has legs. even its violent crossover with sportswear is smart just... not grotesque enough? it doesn't have the hate embedded in like jennyfax for instance.
keisuke yoshida:
not a lot to say about this one, the satin is incredible, i love how sleek it is, the real look that got me on board was that first one i embedded, however, it really really really does something for me, it's genuinely strange and out of some point years ago, it feels properly out of time, when magazines in hair salons were sleek to the point of being kind of freakish, your first awareness of "high fashion" being overdramatic haircuts, high cheekbones, iciness, the aloofness of an image. this look almost encapsulates how you feel seeing that, trying to be it, not being there quite, that not quite being better than even being there, is the thing that look preserves maybe. the other looks are very good but get to that level much easier... there's a surreal quality to the very normal looking pants against the freakish satin dress with the blooming rose on her neck, and the cape that's made to look like a jacket/blazer.
prada:
ok... basic of me,.. yeah sure... what ever.,.. but the hard panel orange skirt is awesome and look at the shoes in that look, like wtf, in fact all the weird bondage-ish metal ring stuff... maybe i look like a freak for seeing that and thinking of bondage but i like to be tied up and whatever but it seems kinda obvy, maybe. anyway my favorite look here is the first one (i want those shortss), but the whole runway had very good looks, i will say i love the creasing/folding/rumpling of that dress shirt in the second look, and that this kind of rumpling is reproduced elsewhere in a super intentional way, i find that very interesting looking, as well as that window skirt thingy... very weird stuff, in the right ways.
there were a couple others i liked but not enough to try saying a bit about, some i saved out of a compulsion to catalog looks i like, here's some of that:
candy stripper, venit, fumie tanaka, and finally odaka.
maybe there's a bit to say about odaka, some special photography in that one:
very pretty photos, i know it's just to sell you stuff but i'm taken with this woman wandering through a still wilderness of clear plastic planes, all the shimmering on them, that this icy environment does on some level convey spring, or some -ness of spring, maybe humidity and clarity of air (as you breathe it... does anyone else feel that way, spring air is nicer imo) or a mirage even, in the summer.
have 2 listen now...
first one is okay but i think one of the sounds might need some fooling w/ resonant peaks as a distortion layer to make it sound more freaky, what else... the sound's a little too smooth to me, idk why, not abrasive really... what is abrasive? i dunno, i'm maybe soooo messed up about this kind of thing, maybe i'll know when i hear, or something.
maybe low mids need to be cut in one??? thinking about the congested sound... how to deal with it, part of that might really be using the devastor + trash 2 to make some really wonky sound happen... but that might also be too much... whateverrrr... nothing ventured nothing gained... it's almost in arab on radar territory, it has that pleasing chewy-ness but there's some bump somewhere, from the distortion i presume. (crazy how my solution is to add more distortion... but if the distortion is also functioning as a kind of eq then it makes some sense, right?)
youtube
it's almost kinda where the right guitar is, in tone, not writing really.
the second one is almost... it's in such a weird spot, i'll just have to listen tomorrow and figure that out.
otherwise today has me thinking i need to be less like my mother, despite that part of the day though, my gf and i had a very good talk about all kinds of stuff bothering us, mostly her talking about anxiety about grad programs, our future, and she's just in her head because of some very stupid man failing to give good feedback on pieces of writing. maybe he was given too much respect in the first place, but i imagine he is smart in the ways one expects a teacher to be, just interpersonally terrible and believes he's burdened with the responsibility to tell it how it is, missing out on how things might actually be. a lazy pessimist. by being like my mom, i just mean cold, i guess. and judgmental. i don't want to be like that, i just am, accidentally, frequently.
i've gotta rest now though,
so,
byebye!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That Mexican OT - Texas Technician
When I first got into rap music about a decade ago, we were in what was then known as the “swag era.” Featuring artists such as Drake, Nicki Minaj, Wiz Khalifa, Tyga, Lil Wayne, and a handful more that were on the come-up, the swag era was defined by skinny jeans and snap backs, and it also overlapped with what was also known as the “blog era.” A lot of rappers started gaining traction through blogs, reviews, and social media. Simply put, rap music a decade ago is a lot different compared to how it is now, especially with how it’s perceived.
Despite a lot of songs being popular at that time, a lot of music fans were sick of the trends of that era, especially lyrically and musically speaking. Rap music, just like pop music, had become soulless and generic piles of trash. A lot of great stuff came out, too, but it was more so in the underground than in the mainstream. Unfortunately, a lot of people that weren’t familiar with those genres tended to write them off as being about the same few topics and being soulless and brainless trash, but you want to know something I’ve learned over the years?
I love a lot of music that’s considered to be “dumb,” but that’s because I look at those albums for what they are, not what I want them to be. A good recent example of this is the new Denzel Curry album, King Of The Mischievous South, Volume 2, where Curry essentially made a record that flexed his muscles when it came to simplistic and energetic southern rap. Featuring a slew of southern rappers, it’s one of my top favorites of the year, but I’d be lying if I said it was for how poignant and profound it is. No, it’s catchy, fun, energetic, humorous, slick, and just an overall great project that sounded like a blast to make.
One of the featured artists on that record is That Mexican OT, a Texas-born rapper with the real name Virgil Gazca, and he’s been a rising star within the last few years, especially with his last album, 2023’s Lonestar Luchadore, and how he’s gone viral for a couple of tracks from it. He came back earlier this year with a new album, entitled Texas Technician, and sort of with how the aforementioned Denzel Curry paid homage to his Florida roots on 2019’ ZUU, Texas Technician is very much a love letter to Texas hip-hop. Is the album deep, poignant, and intellectual?
No, it’s really not, but what it is, however, is an energetic, fun, humorous, and engaging ride through the south that has some really clever and funny lyrics along with some great performances and production from That Mexican OT and his collaborators. I’ve been going back to this album quite a bit over the last few weeks, and I’d say it’s one of my favorite albums of year so far. I’ve come to redefine what constitutes as one of my favorite albums of the year, and it doesn’t have to be an album that’s super weird, experimental, or unique, but it needs to be something I go back to quite a bit, regardless of its sound.
I’ve been coming back to this album quite a lot, just for how catchy, groovy, and fun it is. I don’t have a lot to say outside of how good the production is, as well as how fun and unique OT’s flow is, but it’s a solid little album. At 16 songs, it does feel a little long and repetitive at times, but it’s only 41 minute, so it isn’t even that long of an album, but it’s still a lot of fun. If you enjoy southern rap, it’s worth hearing, though. That Mexican OT is one of the biggest rising stars in rap, and for good reason. This was my introduction to his music, and I’m excited for whatever he does next.
